My 2016 Honda Civic has a recurring safety-critical defect that began approximately 2–3 weeks after purchase. While turning (most often left turns), the vehicle suddenly shuts off without warning. When this occurs, the power steering assist locks, brake assist is lost, and the electrical system cuts off and then reboots. This has happened more than 5–6 times and nearly caused collisions. I had to apply extreme brake pressure to avoid hitting another vehicle during one incident. The steering becomes rigid, the dashboard goes dark, and the car restarts on its own while still in motion. Before I purchased the vehicle, a diagnostic inspection was performed and no issues were reported. Since owning the car, it has also been taken to a mechanic multiple times, and no diagnostic code or mechanical explanation for this shutdown issue has ever been identified. The defect appears intermittently and leaves no trace or error codes, making it extremely difficult to detect or repair. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause injury or death. The problem appears to be a latent defect that was present at the time of vehicle sale. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether this is a known issue with this model or whether other consumers have experienced similar sudden shutdowns.

- The engine failed. The engine block warped and both had to be replaced. I have pictures from the dealer. The cost was $8,194.56 at the dealer for a replacement engine with 89K miles on it. - My son's safety was put at risk because he is in a rural area. Every warning lamp on the dashboard turned on after Indy Honda replaced the coolant (Maintenance minder A125). Then the lights would turn off. Then Andy Mohr Honda inspected it (for the first time) and their diagnosis was a pvc pipe crack. We paid for that repair. The second time was the head gasket and the engine was destroyed. - The problem was confirmed by Andy Mohr Honda and Indy Honda in the state of Indiana. Andy Mohr confirmed the turbo engine for the Honda Civic has a known issue and than we should have purchased the 2.0 liter instead of the 1.5 liter because of the load the turbo puts on the engine. American Honda Motor Co., Inc disagrees and stated there was no issue. - The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer via pictures taken at Andy Mohr Honda. - Prior to the coolant service in June 2025 there were no warning lamps. There were no symptoms. The Civic has only been maintained by Honda Dealers. The first time (approximate date) we noticed the issue: [XXX]. My son videoed it. Please note the text from Andy Mohr Honda stating the engine was overheated. The coolant was replaced by Indy Honda a week prior to the overheating. It should not have occurred. Went to my local dealer on January 11 to have my car checked due to a possible knock in my engine or transmission. They checked it but was not able to find a code or the actual cause after changing the oil of transmission and running it. It still continues to have issues They told me “might need to leave your car overnight because their master technician is not here until Monday “ To me I didn’t like much that answer because I spend too much for a no fix or cause. Also they could not provide me a loaner as well which was not a good idea No codes in the system or lights in the dashboard , it started a day before I took it to the shop

ALL LIGHT ARE COMING IN OFF AND ON IN MY CAR , KEYS WILL LOCK MY CAR BUT WHEN I WALK AWAY IT UNLOCKS AND ROLLS ALL MY WINDOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN. HAD TO REMOVE KEY BATTERIES FOR IT TO STOP AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RAN AND IT SHOWS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IS MISFIRING AND HAVING ISSUES. WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON 10TH GEN HONDA CIVICS BUT YOU SIGHT DOESNT SHOW IT

Driving on highway to work when check engine light came on in addition to "Emissions System Problem", "Hill Start Assist", "Power Steering Issue", etc. When scanned for codes it showed misfire codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304. When spark plugs and coils were changed one set showed signs of rust. The misfires persisted after changing out these parts. When taken to the dealership they stated that the powertrain warranty had been extended to 6yrs from the original date of purchase because of an oil dilution issue. My car was outside of this warranty and the dealer did not offer to help with repairs. I called Honda of America and explained the situation - they also stated that it was outside of warranty. My mechanic has recommended an engine replacement and estimates repair costs over $4000+ for a used engine. Radiator fluid had been topped off 3-4 times this year but we did not realize it was leaking into the engine. A full recall should be issued for this, it is a known issue and Honda is aware of it. The warranty extension is not enough if the issue is going to keep occurring.

Over a several month period the car was losing radiator fluid. I figured it was probably a stuck thermostat and the fluid was coming from the overflow. But only once did I see a minimal amount of fluid. Not near the amount that had been lost in the cooling system. Fast forward a few months and I am driving home. Top speed starts out at the speed limit of 70 and slowly slips to 65 then 60. Giving it more gas would increase the rpms but no power or forward thrust was making to the tires. It was as if, it was falling into neutral. The next morning drive to work was much worse. starting with a top speed of 65 within 10 miles on the highway the top speed went to 55 then to 45 then 35. When the top speed was 45 mph I took the first exit and made it through a stop sign on the service road. With a crawling speed of 10 mph it limped into a strip-center parking lot. Once it was stopped, pushing the gas pedal would increase rpms but no forward movement. So, I assumed a new transmission (CTV) was in my future and had it towed to a local dependable, honest, five-star reviewed auto shop. They found it misfiring and upon investigation find radiator fluid in the oil. So, they tell me the engine died and they could not even check the transmission. In the end, a used engine with 40K miles was put in it, a newer used transmission, and a new turbo (it was bad too). $14,000 + dollars is what the shop charged in June of 24 and Dec of 23. I tried to no avail to have the turbo covered under a lifetime warranty of an autobody shop that had replaced it following a road hazard claim that damaged it.

I have been experiencing engine and transmission issues for nearly 2 years. I have under 90k miles and am the 2nd owner since 2017. There is lack of power, speed inconsistencies, sputtering and hesitation upon acceleration. It feels unsafe. I have taken the vehicle in for a diagnosis and they stated it was an issue with the turbo and it has failed. This should not have occurred as the vehicle is under 120k miles. I have since paid to have it repaired at the cost of $5678.00

Alarm sounded, went outside with fob to shut off . Still alarm on . Tried to get in car with fob . Had to use key in door to get in . Stepped on brake and pushed start/stop button . Alarm now silent. Push start/stop button to shut off engine and message on dash read Keyless Start System Error. Engine still running. Pushed button again and AC shuts off , engine still running and dash still reading error. Put in driver, then reverse to park and pushed button again and engine shut off finally. Disconnect negative from battery and let sit overnight. Tried to start, but just kept cranking. Disconnect battery again, tried starting again and it started. This time it took me 10 minutes before I could shut off engine. Disconnect battery again and haven’t tried again. I’ve read about other people having the same issues. Most say start/stop switch. Mine is on order, will install asap and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

The air conditioner does not blow cold air. The heating and fan work just fine, but no cool air. I was told by Honda that if it’s not because of the recall, that I would have to pay, and that just wasn’t feasible at the time.

Lost Transmission fluid cap, don’t turn on any sensor light. I realized only because a friend just replace his. He shared the information I check it was gone. I had to buy a new one at Honda. High risk since temperature is super high in California, potential risk to lose all the transmission oil and brake.

I bought my 2016 Honda Civic and never had issues with it besides the AC unit not working which was resolved because of the recalls and was repaired by my local dealership. Now I am having issues when it comes to accelerating. There is an accelerating delay/ stall when completing a stop and there’s a delay to get the car to move after pressing on the gas pedal or when reversing when getting out of th driveway. The most dangerous event is when I’m driving and i come to a stop to make a right turn and right after ensuring there is no upcoming traffic to make the right turn my car does not accelerate and it’s very scary because I can get hit by another car. There’s times where I’m driving and the car can turn off. I feel like my life and other drivers life’s are at risk. Honda has recalls for fuel pumps for other year/models but not for mine. I just want to make sure if this is something that can be recalled. Thank you

I bought my Honda new in 2016 from Space Coast Honda in Cocoa, Florida. It had 0 miles. Since 2016 I have had 5 separate issues with the air conditioner, and have had to repeatedly go back to Space Coast Honda. They released a warranty for the condenser, but refuse to acknowledge problems with the evaporator. There are many many people with a 2016-2018 Honda Civic who experience issues with the evaporator and Honda wants people to pay over $2000 to fix the issue. I find it hard to believe that these issues aren’t all related. Honda needs to be held accountable for manufacturing faulty models of the 2016 Honda Civic.

This car has given me the same repeating issues. Winter time the screen blinks blank. AC issues because of the design. Feeling the car with my foot on the break at a red light makes me want to puke. And the big one the steering. After driving on the highway for a bit, I notice the steering has a sticky kind of groove it likes to be in. I have not found a solution to the problem. Safety-camera screen blinking but you're used to using it, could potentially hit something. Nausea in traffic not good for any one. Steering-trying to maintain a lane while the steering gets stuck to the left but the road is veering to the right, it's terrifying. The car has a mind of its own and only performs when it wants...no official dealer report. I don't believe there are any official reports in regards to my vehicle. There have been NO lights or any kind of warning or messages about this. AC was about a year into having the car. The screen happened first winter and every winter since. The sticky steering wheel has been like herpes for about the past 5 years. I just want to have nice things that work. Thank you for your time.

All engine lights flashed while driving, check engine light remained on after all others went off, emission system warning keeps prompting attention, and car just slowed to only 8 mph as I was driving down the road. Available for inspection any day. I had my 7 month old child in the backseat and almost got slammed in the back while going down the road as my car slowed abruptly as I was driving. Nothing was wrong prior, and I took it to a service department when I went for my oil change, but it was going to be very costly to just hook up for diagnostic testing. Car ran at normal speed after this incident, but engine sounds louder and rougher and check engine light and warnings are still present.

I love my Civic and I debated if reporting the issue, but in the interest of safety here it is: When you have to brake hard and suddenly (someone cuts you off) the car loses power (will not accelerate just coasts) for a second or two, but it seems like an eternity if you are in an intersection trying to get out of the way of aggresive traffic. After that power is back and the car is as excellent as it always has been. Incident has happened 3 or 4 times since I got the car in 2016.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while the vehicle was idling or driving at various speeds, she depressed the accelerator pedal however, the RPM’s increased and the engine revved; however, there was an extended delay before the vehicle responded. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure, and an appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 5 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the catalytic convertor had failed and that the inner cooler with gaskets was defective. The catalytic converter was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact had returned the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 236,000.

Received recall notice on my vehicle per cylinder 2 & 3 misfiring. I brought my vehicle into service and I was told this recall did not apply to my vehicle as it was specific civics that had this problem (with my VIN on this recall) Honda then took this notice and disposed of it. I received another recall for drivability of my vehicle, still nothing done. About a year later my car was in and out of Honda due to my check engine light being illuminated. This was the trend from at least October 30, 2021 to present time. When my vehicle was brought in due to the check engine light being illuminated and the vehicle juddering, Honda replaced the solenoid purge valve as it was misfiring ($147). October 29, 2021 preformed a transmission fluid service ($159.95) and brake system fluid flush ($129.87) which I never approved of as I have never done any flush on any of my vehicles. December 10, 2021 my car was loosing power while car had only been running for less than 5 minutes, then died out in the middle of the road. Had car towed to Honda for diagnostic once again.. they performed a valve adjustment and replaced the gasket cover ($408.10). Which did not fix the problem but I was still responsible for the bill. Resulting in a “cracked engine” block per Honda’s diagnosis after all this extra work was put into my vehicle. I was giving a diagnosis of cylinders 2 and 3 being below specification (exact recall on vehicle, cylinders 2 and 2 under specification) resulting in the car needing a new engine, priced out to about $10,000 for a used engine and labor. Honda refuses to do anything about this problem.

THIS VEHICLE HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN DYING AND HAVING ALL OF THE ERROR CODES POP UP WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. WE HAVE VERIFIED THAT NOTHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY AND HAVE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED TWICE. THE BATTERY MUST NOT BE THE PROBLEM BUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS MESSING UP SO MUCH THAT WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE IT. LATER THAT AFTERNOON I STARTED MY CAR AND MY CABIN FILLED WITH THE WORSE SMELL OF GAS AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER GAGGED. MY DIPSTICK FOR OIL SMELT I F GAS TOO. I GOOGLED THIS AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS AN OIL DILUTION PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT AND SAID NOTHING IS WRONG BASICALLY BECAUSE IT DID NOT THROW A CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON. HONDA HAS NOT RECALLED THUS BUT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE OFFERING A UPDATE BUT ONLY TO OWNERS BACK EAST IN COKD WEATHER STATES. WELL I KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG AND MY DEALER SAID I CANT GET UPDATE UNLESS THEY SEE THAT CODE. MY 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX-T A/C RECENTLY STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT NEARLY $500 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. THIS CAR HAS THE INFAMOUS 1.5 LITER TURBOCHARGED EARTH DREAMS ENGINE FROM HONDA. EVEN AFTER THE PRODUCT UPDATE APPLIED TO THE CAR ON JAN 2019 WHILE IT WAS OWNED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER, IT STILL HAS A HIGH AMOUNT OF OIL DILUTION ISSUE WHICH WILL SEVERELY IMPACT THE CAR IN THE LONG RUN. PARKING THIS CAR IN A GARAGE AFTER A DRIVE MAKES THE WHOLE GARAGE SMELL LIKE GAS. AND A POINT TO NOTE IS THAT IT'S SUMMER HERE IN OHIO NOW. AFTER A FRESH OIL CHANGE RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND DRIVING A MERE DISTANCE OF 50 MILES ALREADY HAD DUMPED SO MUCH OF GAS INTO THE ENGINE THAT THE DIPSTICK HAD HIGH OIL LEVEL. TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP RESULTED NO RESOLUTION AS THEY INSISTED THAT IT'S NORMAL. IT'S NOT NORMAL TO HAVE THAT AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE ENGINE SO I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT HONDA SHOULD MAKE A RECALL ON THIS CAR.

I FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AND RESEARCHED TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSES A HOLE IN THE COMPRESSOR THAT MAKES IT BEYOND REPAIR AND THE ONLY INFORMATION I COULD FIND WERE OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 2016 HONDA CIVIC FAULTY AIR COMPRESSORS. THE FOLLOWING DATE, I DROVE THE CAR AND SUDDENLY AGAIN LOSS POWER WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. DROVE BACK MY HONDA BACK TO MY HOUSE WITH THE CAR NEVER REGAINING NORMAL POWER. IT HAS LOST ALL FUNCTIONING. THE 2ND IS THE AIR COMPRESSOR. IT HAS A LEAK AND APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH A LOT OF THE TOURINGS. PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED THEM AND HAD THE SAME ISSUES. WELL, 1 YEAR LATER MY CAR IS BACK AT THE DEALER FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE - AC IS NOT BLOWING COLD. I TOOK MY CAR IN ON JUNE 14, 2019. ON JUNE 18 2019 I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THAT MY AC WAS LEAKING IN 2 PARTS - THE EVAPORATOR (WHICH THEY TOLD ME WAS A DEFECTIVE PART AND WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER MY WARRANTY) AND THE CONDENSER HAD A HOLE IN IN. THE CONDENSER IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY BECAUSE OF OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. SO NOW A $700 BILL I MUST PAY. AS I HAVE COME TO FIND ONLINE - THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF 2016 CIVIC OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR AC. THE LOCATION OF THE CONDENSER APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW AND I NOW THE RUN THE RISK OF ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM EVERY YEAR BECAUSE SOMETHING CAN HIT THE CONDENSER AS I DRIVE. WHEN THE WARMER WEATHER STARTED, I NOTICED MY AIR CONDITIONING WAS ONLY GIVING OUT COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN BROUGHT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT ASSESS WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE CAR FOR THAT YEAR. I BROUGHT IT TO THE HONDA DEALER FOR REPAIRS ON MAY 20, 2019 WHERE THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW CONDENSER DUE TO A LEAK. THE TOTAL AMOUNT IN REPAIRS WAS $907 ON A THREE YEAR OLD VEHICLE. IT WAS ALSO STATED THAT SINCE THIS IS SUCH A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE, I COULD NOT FILE A CLAIM THROUGH MY COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 HONDA EX-T DASHBOARD LIGHTS STARTED LIGHTING UP -EMMISION, EPS, BRAKE HOLD, ETC THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO" LIMP MODE" WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM TOLD THIS CAUSED A TURBO PROBLEM AND THE TURBO WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WHILE RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON AND REOCCURRING PROBLEM THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. SINCE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT SEEMS WITH OUT HONDA ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM THIS WILL OCCUR AGAIN WITH A NEW TURBO. I AM UNSURE IF THE MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS FOR PROBLEMS THAT DID NOT EXIST CAUSED THE TURBO PROBLEMS BUT IT SEEMS LIKELY. SINCE WHEN THESE LIGHTS COME ON THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. LUCKILY I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO HANDLE THE AUTOMATIC DRASTIC DECLINE WITH OUT BREAKING WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP. HAD THE HIGHWAY BEEN BUSY THIS CERTAINLY WOULD OF RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.

ISSUE WITH THE 1.5 TURBO CALLED OIL DILUTION. CHINA HAD A RECALL ON THE TURBO DUE TO THE FUEL DILUTION PROBLEM (FUEL GETTING INTO OIL). BACK IN SEPTEMBER ON THE WAY TO OHIO FROM INDIANA CIVIC BROKE DOWN AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 70, DURING A RAIN STORM. NOT A SAFE SITUATION AT ALL. CIVIC WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER IN DAYTON. WAS TOLD OIL WAS OVERFULL AND THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO DRAIN AND FILL WITH PROPER AMOUNT. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THEY HAD SEEN THAT BEFORE. IT IS COMING TOGETHER FOR ME NOW WHEN I SAW A CONSUMER REPORT YOUTUBE DISCUSSING THIS ENGINE ISSUE AND THIS YOUTUBE: HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=J80BFJS-16U. 1.5 TURBO IS BUILDING UP FLUID IN THE CRANKCASE LIKE ON THE 1.5 TURBOS IN THE CIVIC. HAD THE OIL CHANGED AGAIN RIGHT AT TWO MONTHS LATER, HERE IN INDIANA, WITH LIKELY LESS THAN 2000 MORE MILES AND THERE IS AGAIN BUILDUP OF FLUID IN THE CRANKCASE. THE OIL WAS OVERFULL AS CONFIRMED BY THE TECHS AT THE LOCAL INDIANA HONDA DEALER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE .

A RODENT CRAWLED UP INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHEWED UP THE WIRES TO COIL CONNECTOR. IT MADE ALL OF THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS TO COME ON AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING DUE TO THE MIS-FIRING COIL. IT IS HONDA FAULT BECAUSE THEY COVERED/MADE THE WIRES WITH SOY, WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS. MY 2016 CIVIC IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD WITH 9,500 MILES, HONDA CLAIMS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. HONDA THEN, WANTED TO SELL ME A $500 ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, THIS IS RIDICULES, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE RODENTS WILL BE ATTRACTED TO THE NEW WIRE HARNESS TOO. THEY ALSO WANTED TO SELL ME SPICY RODENT TAPE FOR $48, THIS IS A SCAM, HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEY WILL BE LOSING LOYAL CUSTOMERS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT.

DIAGNOSTIC TEST COST $135 + TAX, WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A STONE THAT PUNCTURED THE CONDENSER, WAS ASSIMILATED TO "JUST AS IF A STONE HAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND CRACKED IT, IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED." WINDSHIELDS ARE DESIGNED TO DEFLECT DEBRIS. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND APPEARS TO BE A COMMON (PREVIOUS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS SETTLED ON EARLIER HONDA VEHICLES WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM: "A ROCK PUNCTURING THE CONDENSER" DUE TO DESIGN FLAW). THIS IS ABSURD TO NOT TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE AND CHARGE CONSUMERS $900+ FOR A PROBLEM THAT COULD EASILY HAPPEN AGAIN IF A "SMALL ROCK OR PEBBLE" IS ABLE TO PUNCTURE A PART. 17,800 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, 18 MONTHS OLD. I CHECKED IF THERE WAS AN OUTLET CONNECTED OR USB PORTS AND DID NOT FIND AN ANSWER. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO HELP AND ONLY ADVICE THAT WAS GIVEN WAS TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE , THEY ALSO ADDED THEY WOULD NOT BE TAKING CARE OF ANY DAMAGES IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND ALSO DID NOT KNOW WHY, NOR WERE EVEN INTERESTED IN INVESTIGATING. THE CAR WAS IN COMPLETE PARK MODE, AND OFF OVERNIGHT. NO ONE DESERVES TO TAKE THEIR SIBLINGS TO SCHOOL AND INSTEAD BE WELCOMED BY A MALFUNCTIONING DEFECTIVE 2016 YEAR VEHICLE.

ME AN MY BOYFRIEND ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE ENGINE OF OUR VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY A TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS PASSING BY AND SAW US ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED TO HELP US. JUST TO GIVE SOME BACK STORY MY BOYFRIEND WAS READING AN ARTICLE ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE PISTON RING/CLIP AFFECTING THE ENGINE ON THE 2016 HONDA CIVICS AND WE IMMEDIATELY WENT TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE CAR INSPECTED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. LATER ON WARNING LIGHTS IN THE CAR STARTED TO TURN ON INCLUDED THE BRAKE AND ENGINE LIGHT. WE HAD A WORKER AT AUTOZONE CHECK THE LIGHTS WITH ONE OF THEIR TOOLS AND WERE TOLD THE LIGHTS MAY HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF IN THE INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE. WE WENT BACK TWICE SPEAKING TO THE MANAGER AND SERVICE TEAM AND WERE TURNED AWAY WITH A LIST OF ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON IN THE VEHICLE WITH NO REMEDY TO FIX ANY OF THE ISSUES. WHEN WE BROUGHT UP THE RECALL AGAIN WE WERE TOLD OUR CAR DID NOT FALL UNDER IT. BECAUSE OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE I AND MY BOYFRIEND COULD AVE LOST OUR LIVES IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND CALLED THE DEALER WHO TOWED THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT IS A LOW COMPRESSION PROBLEM IN THE CYLINDERS AND THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ROCKER ARM NOT THAT IT IS PART OF THIS PISTON PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO THINK AT THIS POINT. THEY ARE KEEPING MY CAR UNTIL WEDNESDAY. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS PART OF THE STOP SALE ORDER. TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT HONDA ISSUED A RECALL OF APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MODEL YEAR 2016 CIVICS IN THE U.S. AND CANADA BECAUSE THE ENGINE CAN STALL WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. THIS IS DUE TO A PISTON CLIP THAT WAS NOT INSTALLED OR MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY INSTALLED INTO THE PISTON DURING ASSEMBLY. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT HONDA SENT A STOP SALE NOTICE TO ALL DEALERS ON FEBRUARY 2ND HOWEVER; MY 2016 CIVIC CAR WAS SOLD TO ME ON FEBRUARY 13TH FROM A HONDA DEALER LOCATED IN PHOENIX, AZ. I DID CONTACT THE DEALER AND AM TAKING MY CAR IN TOMORROW BUT I READ THAT THE PART OR INSPECTING INSTRUMENTS WON'T EVEN BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF MARCH. NOT SURE IF THE DEALER WILL EVEN BE ABLE TO INSPECT MY CAR TOMORROW BUT I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING A CAR THAT COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. CAN'T BELIEVE HONDA IS PUTTING LIVES AT RISK UNTIL THE NEW PART AND INSPECTING INSTRUMENT ARE AVAILABLE.

I PURCHASED THE NEW CAR ON 11/30/2015. SINCE THEN, IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN 22 MILES. I LEARNED OF RECALL ON 2/9/16 ON NEWS. I WAS NOT CONTACTED BY DEALER OR HONDA ABOUT IT. I CONTACTED DEALER ON 2/11/16 WHO IN TURN CONTACTED HONDA. BEING A NEW CAR WITH ONLY 22 MILES ON IT (3 TRIPS--THE FIRST BEING THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP), I REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS IS MORE THAN REASONABLE.. HONDA REFUSED. I WAS ADVISED TOOLS TO EXAMINE FOR THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. SINCE THE CAR CAN NOT BE FIXED AT THIS TIME, IT IS A SAFETY LIABILITY, AND HONDA WAS NOT WILLING TO DO THE RIGHT THING, I FILED A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT WITH THE OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL. THEY WERE OF NO HELP WITH HONDA NOW REFUSING TO REFUND MY MONEY OR REPLACE THE CAR. TO DATE ( 2/25/16), I HAVE RECEIVED NO RECALL PAPERWORK FROM HONDA. THEY EXPECT TO SEND IT OUT SOMETIME IN MARCH. DRIVING THIS VEHICLE PRESENTS POTENTIAL DANGEROUS SAFETY- LIABILITY ISSUES FOR ME, MY FAMILY, PASSENGERS AND OTHERS SHOULD IT STALL, CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR CATCH FIRE. I DID NOT BUY THIS NEW VEHICLE TO DRIVE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. BUT SINCE HONDA ANNOUNCED THE RECALL AND STOP SALES ORDER ON 1/29/2016 UNTIL NOW, THIS IS WHAT I FACE AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG IT WILL CONTINUE. PARTS MAY BE AVAILABLE THIS SUMMER. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO? THIS IS NOT THE NEW CAR EXPERIENCE I EXPECTED, AND I DID NOT BUY THE CAR TO BE INJURED, TO DAMAGE THE ENGINE, OR BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ACCIDENT WITH MY INSURANCE PICKING UP THE TAB. I AM NOT THE ONLY 2016 CIVIC OWNER IN THIS SITUATION. WHY SO LONG TO NOTIFY US OF THIS DANGEROUS RECALL TO THE ENGINE NO LESS? I SEE HONDA HAS INDEMNIFIED ITSELF. WHAT ABOUT US AND OUR SAFETY? I WANT MY VEHICLE REPLACED OR A REFUND. I DID NOT BUY A NEW VEHICLE TO REPAIR IT WITH ONLY 22 MILES ON IT. THIS IS FAR FROM THE TYPICAL SAFETY RECALLS WE USUALLY SEE.

I WAS SOLD A 2016 HONDA CIVIC ON THE DAY (JANUARY 29, 2016) THAT AMERICAN HONDA NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A 'STOP-SALE' AND I AM FORCED TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT MAY HAVE A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT UNTIL THEY FIX IT. HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD A VEHICLE WITH A SAFETY CONCERN AS GREAT AS ENGINE FAILURE.

TOOK DELIVERY OF 2016 HONDA CIVIC 1 1/2 WEEKS AGO. CURRENTLY 350 MILES. CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA TODAY IN REGARDS TO PISTON SNAP RING RECALL. CURRENTLY HONDA HAS NO FIX FOR VEHICLES AFFECTED. WOULD LIKE FOR HONDA TO PROVIDE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION UNTIL ENGINE CAN BE REPAIRED/REPLACED OR BUY THE VEHICLE BACK SINCE DEALERS HAVE BEEN FORCED TO STOP SELLING 2016 CIVICS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING BRAND NEW CAR ANY LONGER. EVERY TIME I START VEHICLE HONDA IS PUTTING MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF EVERYONE ELSE AROUND ME IN JEOPARDY!

THE 2016 CIVICS WITH 2.0 LITER MOTORS HAVE AND BEEN PUT ON A "STOP SALE" ARE GOING TO BE RECALLED DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE FAILURE, DAMAGE, AND EVEN POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES DUE TO POSSIBLY HAVING FAULTY PISTON SNAP RINGS. I BOUGHT ONE A WEEK BEFORE THIS "STOP SALE" AND I AM APPARENTLY GOING TO BE FORCED TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT MAY HAVE A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT UNTIL THEY FIX IT WHICH WILL NOT BE UNTIL THIS SUMMER ACCORDING TO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS GIVEN A CLAIM NUMBER AND I HAVE REQUESTED A RENTAL FROM HONDA SO THAT I CAN STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY MAKE SURE IT IS SAFE. "ENGINE FAILURE" ON ANY ROADS MUCH LESS A BUSY HIGHWAY IS DANGEROUS AND AN OBVIOUS MAJOR PROBLEM, AND I AM MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO MY TODDLER IF MY BRAND NEW HONDA CIVIC DIES ON ME OR CATCHES FIRE. WILL SOMEONE REAR END ME? WILL I BE STUCK IN TRAFFIC? WHO KNOWS. I JUST HOPE HONDA DOES SOMETHING FOR THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, CONSIDERING IT'S SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IT CAN NOT BE CURRENTLY SOLD BY DEALERSHIPS UNTIL FIXED. .
