All Steering Complaints (394)
There is a jerky/sticky issue with the steering while driving. The steering wheel seems to get stuck and I end up almost over correcting to get it to unstick. I’ve read multiple complaints of this issue and my car’s year is 2016 purchased in October 2025.
Steering is very stiff and fights you while trying to make minor corrections at highway speeds (45mph+). Not safe to drive the vehicle on road trips or for extended periods of time on the highway. As I understand it, the 11th generation civics have a recall on the same component. It seems the recall needs to be extended to the 10th generation civics as well.
2016 Honda Civic LX. Electronic power steering has sticky feeling when traveling at highway speeds, does not return to center. This leads to a danger situation as car becomes difficult to control when traveling at highway speeds. Honda is away of this issue on newer generation of Honda's. Upon inspection, the mechanism that is having an issue is almost identical in Honda's 10th generation of vehicle.
UNKNOWN - The steering wheel sticks in the center position when driving on the freeway or highway. When I go to adjust the wheel to correct my direction the wheel sticks and I have to turn harder and it results in an overcorrection and jerks the car. This seems to be a common problem and from what I have read online and it is either the EPS system or the clock spring in the steering wheel. People have said it can be very costly to repair. It has been happening continuously for a couple of years now but sometimes there are gaps when it is bad and when it doesn't happen a lot. It is definitely a safety concern.
My 2016 Honda Civic has a recurring safety-critical defect that began approximately 2–3 weeks after purchase. While turning (most often left turns), the vehicle suddenly shuts off without warning. When this occurs, the power steering assist locks, brake assist is lost, and the electrical system cuts off and then reboots. This has happened more than 5–6 times and nearly caused collisions. I had to apply extreme brake pressure to avoid hitting another vehicle during one incident. The steering becomes rigid, the dashboard goes dark, and the car restarts on its own while still in motion. Before I purchased the vehicle, a diagnostic inspection was performed and no issues were reported. Since owning the car, it has also been taken to a mechanic multiple times, and no diagnostic code or mechanical explanation for this shutdown issue has ever been identified. The defect appears intermittently and leaves no trace or error codes, making it extremely difficult to detect or repair. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause injury or death. The problem appears to be a latent defect that was present at the time of vehicle sale. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether this is a known issue with this model or whether other consumers have experienced similar sudden shutdowns.
The entire steering rack has an issue especially when driving on the highway. To make slight adjustments and wide turns it feels like you have to turn out of a notch and can’t make any smooth minor adjustments. I took it to the dealership near me and they test drove it and confirmed there was a “notch” in the steering rack and the entire steering rack had to be replaced.
My front driver side wheel completely detached from the vehicle’s body while I was driving home causing the left side of my car to collide with the street pavement and skid to a stop. The driver door airbags deployed, fluid leaked from under the vehicle and the bottom driver side of the car was damaged including the back left wheel/tire. The car had to be towed and an insurance claim was filed for review.
Steering wheel seems to get stuck with minor corrections, and then “gives way” causing a serious over correction. This is mostly noticeable at high way speeds (45+) but can be felt even when the vehicle is stopped. Vehicle is Not lane assist equipped. Appears to be a sticky Rack or Pinion gear.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring the steering wheel to be manually returned to center after completing a turn. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.

I purchased my '16 civic in 2018. The following summer, I started to notice that the steering wheel would "stick" in straight or shallow turn positions, requiring excessive force to break free and start turning. This is especially noticeable during highway driving, when the sticking steering wheel results in minor corrections being impossible. The end result is the car is impossible to keep in the center of the lane all the time, and must continuously be corrected, over-corrected, and over-corrected again. Being unable to correctly control the car is a major safety problem, especially for older drivers that may have difficulty overcoming the force of the steering wheel "sticking." This problem has reappeared every spring. 11th generation civics have this problem and a recall/warranty for the offending components, but not the 10th generation. There are no warning lights or messages from the vehicle about this problem.
After about 30mins of driving car would start pulling to left even if the steering wheel was straight. When trying to correct it the steering wheel would feel stuck like to magnet and when it would release car would over correct to the right. Found out its a common issue among hondas 2015 and above no matter the model, took my car in to the dealer to replace the gearbox and the rack and pinion which fixed the problem. There are no warning lights or codes for this.
Sometimes when driving the steering wheel will tend to “jerk”, or appear “stuck” when trying to turn. This has started to happen recently and I have noticed it when NOT using lane “assistance” this issue has not only been seen from me, but rather by many others as seen in forms such as the following: [XXX] This issue has yet to cause a wreck for me, but this does pose a safety risk as it could prevent me from moving out of the way of cars, or worse prevent me from turning causing me to hit someone or something around my environment. I hope that this is something that can be fixed or recalled for as I am not the only one experiencing this and does genuinely pose a risk. Driving on highway steering wheel is sticky requires extra effort to control steering has gotten worse since 2025
PURCHASED AS CERTIFIED USED HONDA. I FEEL THIS VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN OTHER 2016 HONDA CIVIC STEERING GEAR BAX FAILURE RECALLS AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE TO RECTIFY THE FAILURE. 1 YEAR AGO MY CAR STEERING SEEMED TO BE STICKING. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD MY SWAY BAR WAS LEAKING. I HAD THAT REPLACED AND THE ISSUE SEEMED TO NOT BE NOTICED. AGAIN THIS YEAR IT BECAME MUSH MORE PRONOUNCED ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THE STEERING SEEMS TO GET IN A GROVE AND THE STEETING WHEEL NEEDS TO BE ALMOST JERKED TO GET IT FROM VEERING IN A SPECIFIC DIRECTION. (RIGHT) IF I CONTINUALLY JIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL IT DOES NOT HAPPEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON DIAGNOSIS THEY DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX IS FAILING. I DID RESEARCH AND SOME 2016 HONDA CIVIC MODELS HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I REACHED OUT TO HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT MINE WAS NOT IN THAT RECALL. I FIND IT HARD TO THINK THAT IT SHOULD NOT SINCE IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR OTHER VEHICLES. MY TIRES ARE WEARING FAST DUE TO THE ISSUE AS WELL. HONDA STATED I WOULD HAVE TO FILE A REPORT WITH YOU.
The steering wheel sticks when you try to turn it. The best example of what happens is when you're driving on a fairly straight road, you typically make small steering adustments to keep your car in it's lane. What happens is, when you try to turn the steering wheel it "sticks" and doesn't move and so you turn harder than what would be normal to turn it. So you have to turn the wheel harder to make the steering wheel move. When it finally does break free and turn, the result is that instead of turning the car a small amount left or right as you would like, it turns it more than you expect it to and then the car moves more than you expected it to which causes a dangerous situation. I've noticed this more on hotter days when going over 50 MPH but it has occurred at lower speeds. Honda did a recall for this issue for newer Civics, but not the 2016 that I have.
After driving for over 30 minutes, the steering becomes sticky. When I try to make minor corrections to stay in the lane, the steering gets stuck, requiring a little extra force, resulting in a slight over correction. At high speeds this slight over correction is very dangerous. This happens on all extended drives. It happens at all speeds.
Civic EX 4D bought new in 2016, Steering wheel is “sticking” seems to be a common issue on 10th gen Civic’s but is only recalled on 11th generation models. When driving straight at highway speed, steering wheel does not want to stay in the middle. Car has been aligned (twice) and has 4 new tires and it seems the issue is even MORE felt. The car does not PULL either side, it is just impossible to keep the steering wheel centered. It causes it to be extremely jerky and hard to drive long distances. Can be felt at lower speeds when turning the wheel left to right in quick succession, feels as though there is a pop in the middle/something gets caught causing the wheel to pop back.
The steering is sticky and it is hard to keep the car in the lane requiring you to over correct. I have been told it is an issue with the steering rack and needs to be replaced. This repair is very expensive. This has been an issue for several years but I did not associate it with a problem until I started doing some research. No warning lights. My car has low mileage and has been maintained. This is a known issue but a recall was only done on newer vehicles.
While driving on the freeway at approximately 70 mph, maintaing speed and direction, not changing lanes I noticed that the steering becomes "sticky". This means that as I make very slight 1 to 2 degree maneuvers to maintain a straight path the steering is almost stuck and in order to make those slight maneuvers I have to use more force than should be necessary to keep the car on a straight course. The car has been inspected by twice by my local Honda Dealership and they have been unable to find anything wrong by running diagnostics and test drive. There are no warning lamps on. This symptom has been intermittent for at least a year or more and seems to happen when driving at constant speeds.
*When driving my 2016 Honda Civic LX at any speed you can feel the steering wheel stick then gets loose. This has been happening since 2018. I thought it was an Alignment issue, so i had an alignment completed, then another alignment completed in March 2025. However that was not the issue. *This is a SAFETY issue and puts me and others on the highway at risk, this is a safety issue every time i drive, it puts everyone in danger. It hinders my steering effort and with difficulty, potentially can lead to a crash. There is excessive friction and that makes it difficult to steer. *YES the problem have been confirmed by a Honda Dealership on 7.2025. this is my 2nd notice to NHTSA. I have also called AMERICAN HONDA no response yet. *It has been inspected by the HONDA dealership service department. *NO warning at all. (documents attached)
While driving, the steering wheel occasionally starts to stick. There have been several instances where it became severely jammed while turning, making it extremely difficult to steer. On a few occasions, it nearly led to a crash because the wheel locked up. This issue has occurred multiple times and seems to be getting progressively worse.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds during hot weather, the steering wheel felt sticky and failed to turn to the left or the right as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Failed power steering gearbox. Rack and Pinion. Steering wheel gets stuck at center position when driving 4k+ repair quote
While driving my 2016 Honda Civic on the freeway, I consistently experience a sticky or notchy steering wheel—especially when making small adjustments near the center position. The steering resists input slightly, then suddenly gives way, making it difficult to make smooth lane corrections. This issue is more noticeable at higher speeds and creates a safety concern, as it affects my ability to maintain proper lane control and react quickly when needed. This issue appears to be a known problem with the EPS (Electric Power Steering) system on 2016 Honda Civics, and I’ve seen reports of a Honda-issued TSB (17-014) that addresses similar symptoms via a software update. However, this issue should warrant broader attention, as it affects vehicle handling and road safety. I’m submitting this complaint to request further investigation and to urge Honda to issue a recall or mandatory repair for affected vehicles.
Steering rack is malfunctioning; I've taken my vehicle to different Honda dealerships and have paid for multiple diagnostics regarding the steering rack. The last time I took my vehicle to dealership was Wednesday July 16 2025 at 8:00 am Honda of Mishawaka, IN I told them the steering wheel was getting sticky and that it was affecting my alignment. Honda took a look and realigned my wheels, but did NOT fix the issue with my steering.
While driving my 2016 Honda Civic at highway speeds (typically 55–75 mph), especially in warm or hot weather, I experience a significant issue with the steering system. The steering wheel becomes “sticky” or stiff and resists minor directional inputs. Instead of responding smoothly, the wheel feels like it is temporarily stuck in place and then jerks when force is applied to adjust the direction. This issue makes it difficult to make small corrections while driving straight and causes the car to feel unstable or difficult to control, which results in abrupt movements that compromise safety, particularly at high speeds. The problem is more noticeable after the vehicle has been driven for a while or during warm weather, suggesting a potential link to heat or prolonged use. There are currently no warning lights or diagnostic alerts on the dashboard, but the steering issue is consistent and reproducible. The issue has been reproduced by an independent service center, to which they said was an issue with a failing power steering where its losing pressure.
The steering wheels becomes stiff/sticky & notchy after driving for sometime. It is most prevalent at interstate speeds & ramps. It causes me to have to constantly overcorrect to stay in my line & often doesn't return to center. This is a serious safety concern which has been addressed in Class action lawsuit for 22-23 models of the Civic, but it has yet to be recalled or fixed for later models with the same issue.
The steering sticks when driving straight and needs additional force to correct causing an over correction. Vehicle can be difficult to keep in its lane.
The problem is with the steering. When driving in a straight line and just normal driving, correcting from left to right to keep the vehicle in the lane, when moving the steering wheel, it seems to be sticking, and it causes one to overcorrect, and then causes the car to sway in the lane, and it seems to do it more turning to the right then to the left. I’m taking to have it inspected by a Honda dealer but after reading some reviews online, it could be a $4000 repair and apparently it is something that has been going on for a while, and a manufactured defect with these vehicles, and there is no recall about it , and there are several videos on YouTube showing The inside of the gearbox of the steering rack and pinion, and that the grease was not applied to the gears correctly, and that is what’s causing it to stick.
The steering has been sticking for quite some time in the "straight" or center position. One must provide excessive force to the steering wheel to get the car to alter direction left or right. The steering wheel will resists normal minor corrections to follow the road. The steering wheel requires excessive force to "break loose" of the center position which results in overcorrection to the left or right. Picture a car veering left and right over and over while traveling straight as no road is completely straight and requires minor steering corrections to maintain a straight path. Almost ran off the road due to the force required to correct the car's path. This is an extremely majot safety issue that Honda MUST address. The car has far too few miles to have this major problem. I have NEVER had a car in the past that was so dangerous to myself and the public at large. Steering is the most basic of controls. Even a car with a worn out reciprocating ball or a worm gear rack will still steer off-center as required. This is an accident and disaster just waiting to happen. I demand Honda and NHTSA approve and require the no cost to me repair of the steering system immediately or public outcry will be unrelenting.
Our steering has started to be “sticky” and needing over correction for over a year now. It is progressively getting more prominent and is worse when driving on the highway (causing swerving). There is currently a recall for Hondas with this problem, but only from 2022-2025. Mine is a 2016 Honda civic and many others have the same problem with older models and needing to pay $4000+ to get it replaced.
When driving straight, the wheel gets stuck and requires some force to become unstuck which then causes the wheel to jerk in the direction you are turning. This results in over steering and is very dangerous. I have found many complaints about this online after looking for solutions.
I’m having a problem with my steering lately. It’s like it’s sticky and jerky feeling when driving, causing me to have to overcorrect left or right when making slight adjustments to center. This happens on long drives on the highway. Over correction on a 2 or 3 lane highway is not safe.
Steering sticking while driving. Took it to the Honda dealer and was told that power steering failure is common on Civics. Cost around 4K.
The steering wheel gets stuck in the center position. Cannot make minor steering changes with over correcting. You have to steer left/right back and forth so that the steering wheel does not get stuck. High temperatures make the condition far worse. The steering gets stuck in center position and requires additional force to break free which causes the car to veer too far left or too far right back and forth. Very dangerous.
I purchased my 2016 Honda Civic in 2018. Not too long afterward, I noticed the steering would occasionally stick in place when trying to turn it causing overcorrections in driving. Over time, the occurrences have dramatically increased, especially on the highway (dangerous). I have brought the vehicle to a Honda dealership regarding this issue. They test drove it and did not find the wheel to stick (I brought it in (California) Wintertime, but the issue primarily occurs in warmer temperatures).Since Honda issued a recall for this exact problem on its 2022-2025 models, I have contacted the Honda manufacturer regarding this issue, but there is no open recall for my VIN. I find I’m in good company with other 2016 Civic owners, from the number of identical complaints on various automotive forums regarding this same complaint for their Honda civics. I’ve also noticed that “steering” has the large number of reported complaints on the NHTSA site (over 300 for my vehicle year alone). Please look into this, as Honda is ignoring the many Civic owners concerned for their safety as well as others on the road due to this sticking steering issue.
I have had to replace my steering rack twice in eight months. The first replacement my tie rod had to be replaced twice as well. I see other Honda models have had this similar problem I think it’s time to include my model as well. This is a very expensive problem once is enough but now twice is absurd.
Steering feels like it’s getting stuck when driving straight on the highway. The wheel almost fights you when you try to make a course correction. Vehicle feels unsafe to drive since you are constantly trying to keep the car straight
When driving on a straight road then having to slightly change course due to perhaps a slight bend in the road the steering wheel feels like it is sticking and takes a bit of force to straighten the wheel. I have had numerous alignments done per maintenance recommendations. It seems to happen more often when it is warm outside. There are no warning lights present. Im afraid that the steering wheel will become actually stuck while driving.
When driving at highway speeds the steering is sticky or notches feeling to leave center or return center. Less noticeable at lower speeds.
I am experiencing an issue where the steering wheel seems sticky and I have noticed from a google search that it affects vehicles designated from 2016-2022 Honda civics although my specific vin doesn’t show as one being affected. It sounds like it most definitely should be. It’s only noticeable at speeds greater than 45 since you use very small amounts of steering wheel turn to make adjustments. How do I get my specific VIN included in this recall since it seems like it most definitely should be?
The steering wheel starts to get sticky on freeway after roughly AFTER 45 mins drive, that gives me harder to follow the lane or make a lane change either to the left or right side. My wife experiences that issue for years, she had not brought that into my attention until two weeks ago we took our 2016 Honda Civic for trip to California and I was a driver. I have heard lots of complaints related Power Steering Rack issues on Honda lately. Please consider this is a serious problem.
I have a 2016 Civic LX, and the steering is sticking when on center when the vehicle has been driving for a while/is warmed up. I have read multiple instances and reports of this issue and the EPS/rack being the culprit even when this car was released 10 years ago. There was never a bulletin or a recall for this model year but it is the same issue for the 2022-2025 model years, and it is frustrating that it is still occurring. It requires more pressure than needed to move the wheel and then it jerks as it comes loose causing need to over correction. This is very unsettling when traveling at highway speeds. I purchased the vehicle in late September of 2024, and I believe the vehicle was doing it then but i did not recognize the issue and it wasn't consistent, especially as temps were cold. The issue has gotten worse, especially as the warm weather is coming around.
The steering wheel "sticks." When driving in a straight line or a wide turn angle (like a freeway exit), attempting to make small adjustments to maintain direction results in a jerking motion. The steering wheel feels stuck until it suddenly overcorrects. I have attempted to manage this better by keeping a very firm grip on the steering wheel in order to personally "control" the issue, but it is not effective. It is extremely stressful driving longer distances and on narrow roads. I have difficulty staying in my line and was even pulled over by a state trooper as they thought I was driving under the influence. Quick research on the Internet indicates many 10th Generation Civic owners experience the same issue, and that this may be due to faulty rack and pinion.
I would like to request a SAFETY INVESTIGATION on my 2016 Honda Civic - My steering wheel is sticking as I drive. I thought it needed an alignment and have taken it to get an alignment twice (7/29/2021 and 3/4/2025). However, it is still sticking to the point I am scared to drive it as it seems I may lose control of the steering wheel trying to keep it in the road. This is a serious safety issue / hazard for me and other people on the highways. I called the Honda dealership to tell them of my issue, they said it was a SAFETY RECALL and to take it to the nearest Dealership, however upon googling the SAFETY RECALL it stated that there were recalls on this very same issue for the 2021 - 2024 models, it is occurring on models year much earlier than that, as my vehicle is a 2016. I only have 121,608 miles on my vehicle; this vehicle has never been in an accident. It is available for inspection upon request; the sticking of the steering wheel is a safety hazard for me and others on the highways that I travel. No, this problem has not been confirmed or inspected by a dealership or service center. There were/are no warning lights to assist me in figuring out the problem.
I have noticed my Honda civic 2016 steering wheel gets stickier while its on highway.
Steering sticks at highway speeds, hard to maintain center of lane. Waiting to get pulled over for suspected drunk driving, which never am. Wife won't drive the car because of this issue. Honda has issued recall for this issue but only 2022-2024 and needs to be at least to 2016 models. Due to price of the electric rack and pinions for civic, unable to purchase one to install myself.
In warmer weather while driving at highway speeds the steering wheel sticks in place. It takes about 4 lbs of pressure to “break the wheel free” from this stuck position. It makes it extremely difficult to make minor steering adjustments while traveling. Many others have experienced this same problem. Recently the newer model or generation of Hondas have been issued a recall while the previous or “10th generation” have not. I believe this to be a significant hazard on our roads in America. Why the newer models get the recall and the older do not I do not understand. Here is a link with others with the same issue. With little research you will find many other forums and YouTube videos address the same discrepancy. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When driving straight on the freeway small corrections to keep the car straight are resisted when I add force to the wheel. With increasing force the drag is overcome and the wheel will snap to a new position which may be too far the other way. This makes the steering kind of digital instead of analog. I have noticed the issue periodically over the last couple of years and had the alignment done 2X, first by an independant mechanic and then by the Honda dealer. I thought the issue was alignment. Being the problem is not always noticeable it took a while for me to realize this is totally not normal for this or any car. I fully realize that now after testing it out on my last drive.
Steering gets “sticky” on long mostly straight roads and resists small course corrections. This causes “jerky” steering corrections. This issue seems to be more prevalent in warm or hot conditions and occurs far less during colder times of the year. This issue is ongoing and has not been resolved.
Sticky steering when on center. Cannot make minor steering adjustments without overcorrecting left or right. This is an ongoing issue for the past few years.
The steering gets notchy when warm. The issue isn't as noticeable during colder month but when the weather warms it becomes very problematic. You have to fight the steering wheel back to center after moving left. The steering will not self center either. This is an accident hazard as someone who might be a new driver could panic or elderly may not have the strength to fight it back.
Sticky steering wheel. Wheel will get stuck when making minor steering adjustments while driving. it’s sticky and jerky feeling when driving, causing to have to overcorrect left or right when making slight adjustments to center.
At highway speeds the steering wheel feels difficult to adjust at times, sticks, driving becomes a constant back and forth to overcome the sticky steering.
Sticky steering, generally after about 10 minutes of highway driving. Dangerous to make small changes as it takes more effort to move wheel then vehicle over-corrects due to steering input.
The steering sticks in the middle when driving on the expressway in warmer weather. When trying to make slight adjustments when driving, the steering wheel sticks around the 12 o'clock position. I have not noticed this problem unless the weather is warmer (55 degrees and up).
There is steering problem especially in high way. The steering is stiff and a little stuck. The car can not go in straight, either left or right, it will over correct. I have to hold the steering wheel to overcome the stuck force to keep in a straight line, then it will over turn. I have to do it again from the other side. And it keeps left to right, right to left.
Just within the last month the steering has been sticking when trying to maintain a straight line. When trying to stay straight there is resistance in the steering and suddenly the resistance stops, causing driver to over correct. Also if the car hits a bump or road irregularity while the steering is resisting movement, then the car wanders even further in lane. This repeats itself constantly and car is wandering back and forth in the lane. The lower ball joints have been replaced and condition continues.
Steering becomes sticky in the middle specifically when it is warm out or after the engine has been on for a while .this was not an issue in the winter. This becomes a safety issue due to trying to keep the car going straight on the interstate you end up having to overcorrect going back and forth left and right. Reading online forms this is an issue with this generation not sure why there's no Recall yet. It can lead to going into another Lane trying to overcorrect this is definitely a safety issue. This issue has been going on since I bought the car last year.
When driving straight at interstate speeds, there seems to be a catch in the steering. It is as if the steering does not want to turn and additional force has to be used to turn. This someone results in over correction of the steering.
Honda - In 2016 I purchased a new Honda Civic Tour model from a dealership and currently have 23000 miles (23K) recently the steering became a problem. I took it to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and was advised that there was an issue known as "notching" where a gear component became defective. It was dangerous to drive and there was no options but to have it repaired. The repair cost nearly $4000.00 and I was shocked. There was no recall according to the service manager but it was known as a common problem. My wife and I are in our [XXX] and [XXX] so the cost was a large burden financially. I was told that Honda-America had a "Goodwill" program that will review a case and possibly offer some financial relief. I complied with the info Honda solicited and submitted the case for consideration. In the meantime, I had the car repaired at the dealership and paid in full. I didn't ask for any specific amount but told Honda I would be appreciative for any financial assistance. Obviously we seldom drive the car usually to doctor appointments and needed errands. The customer service rep called and said my claim was denied because of the age (9 yrs.) even in spite of only have less that 23K miles. The original tires are on the car and it still has the "new car" smell. My wife and I are very disappointed with Honda's lack of compassion, we even purchased an extended warranty from the dealership when we bought the vehicle but we never used it. Honda could have helped us but the service rep made the decision to deny the claim. The customer service that I thought Honda was known for is not the case anymore. When driving down the highway the steering sometimes sticks or locks slightly. This is mainly when driving straight and doing a slight turn or correction. Alignment and balance are fine on the car. There are no warning lights. This is an intermittent problem and only occurs occasionally. I cant always duplicate. It has not been diagnosed by a mechanic yet as it is intermittent and it only occurs occasionally. Initially started around May of 2022 and has continued off and on since, most recently occurring on March 27th, 2025.
One year after buying my car I noticed the steering would stick in place when trying to turn it causing overcorrections in driving. At first this was occurring just occasionally. It got to the point where the sticking of the wheel was everytime I drove the car, making it dangerous to drive, especially on the highway. There were no warnings the car gave off in this situation. I had brought it in twice to a Honda dealership regarding this issue. They drove it around independently and did not find the wheel to stick. They did give me a few ideas of what it could possibly be but with no definitive diagnosis. I also had an independent mechanic assess the car and they did not know what the problem was. I have contacted the Honda manufacturer twice regarding this issue, especially since finding multiple forums regarding the same complaint for their Honda civics. They just tell me there’s nothing they can do and tell me to go back to the same dealership to get another possible diagnosis of the issue. My car is available for inspection if requested.
The steering feels like it's sticking slightly to the left of center, and I've been noticing it more as the weather gets warmer. It primarily occurs at slower speeds but becomes more pronounced at higher speeds. When making small adjustments while driving, the steering wheel doesn’t move smoothly and seems to stick. Once it passes the sticking point, it causes oversteer, forcing me to overcorrect in the opposite direction. This makes driving, especially at higher speeds, feel very unsafe. Through my research, I’ve found that this is a common issue, and there are recalls for this exact problem in my vehicle’s model year. However, after checking my VIN, it appears my car is not included in the recall. I'm deeply concerned that this steering defect could lead to an accident. Given the numerous reports of the same issue in vehicles not currently covered by the recall, I hope the recall will be expanded to include all affected cars.
When driving at highway speed the steering will get stiff and stick. This causes me to put more pressure on the wheel resulting in over correction. It has gotten to the point where it’s unsafe to drive. I’ve read about this issue online. Problem w worm gear in steering rack.
Steering wheel seems to stick when car has been running for 30-40 miles. When going straight and making slight adjustments it sticks then jerks causing oversteering. Because of the mileage required to get this to occur the independent mechanic has been unable to replicate. I no longer feel safe taking this vehicle on the freeway or on any road trip.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the steering wheel was inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel inadvertently turned to the left or the right, causing the contact to forcefully turn the steering wheel. The contact stated that it was difficult to make the turn. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,360.

Not sure what component is causing the issue but steering is sticky. For subtle movements or corrections there will be resistance. This is causing jerky movements while driving which could cause an accident in the future.
Electric Rack n Pinion had to be replaced due to it binding while driving greater than 40 mph. Was a safety issue as the steering wound get 'stuck' trying to make adjustments to stay in the lane. Causing over steering. It started in January and continuely worsened. I believe there is a recall for later models with the same issue, why not 2016's? Cost me approximately $4,000 to replace.
A sticky hard steering feeling from the steering wheel. Results in a labored, exausting feeling from fighting the steering wheel. Results in an over correction of steering at times.
Occasionally steering was sticking, mostly highway driving. Car drifted slightly to left.
Sticky steering when on center and in warmer weather. Cannot make minor steering adjustments without overcorrecting left or right. This is an ongoing issue for the past few years.
Steering wheels binds up on highway. If I slightly turn the wheel in any direction it gets stuck that way and I have to use a lot of force to get it to unbind. Causes uncontrollable steering adjustment very serious.
I began to experience 'sticky steering' before reaching 90k miles on my vehicle. At its worst, the steering issue would cause the driver to overcorrect when attempting to overcome the notch in the steering while simply trying to stay in the center of a lane on the interstate. Because it is a steering issue I had the vehicle inspected at a cost of $236.34, at which time it was recommended that the eps rack and gearbox be replaced at a cost of over $3000 dollars. I declined at that time and went back to my home dealership where the repair was done at a cost of $2055. The rack and gearbox were faulty and the service manager affirmed that it was a known issue on these models, but that Honda had yet to do a recall even though they have done recalls on later models.
Beginning in April 2024, I noticed that my steering wheel would catch slightly when I was driving straight ahead, so that I needed to overcorrect left and right, with resistance in the steering wheel (like it was moving between two notches). This would happen whenever I drove my car straight ahead. I took my car to the local dealer and, after the first visit where they said I should get four new tires in case stretched bands in my tires were causing the steering problem, on a second visit they diagnosed an internal rack problem and advised a steering rack replacement. The car mileage was slightly under 33,000 miles at this time. I reached out to American Honda about the problem, and after they reviewed my case, they provided some goodwill toward the steering rack replacement, they said in part because I've routinely taken my car to the local dealership for service. The steering rack was replaced in September 2024.
Experiencing the same sticky steering issue that a number of other customers have also reported. After driving the vehicle on the highway for 15+ minutes you will start to feel the steeling wheel stick at the center position when turning the wheel from the center position to the right. Have not had the vehicle inspected yet. No lights or sensors indicate any issue.
At highway speeds or after driving longer distances there is an increased amount of effort needed to turn the steering wheel. When making slight adjustments the steering wheel “sticks” and then overcorrects sometimes causing my car to shift into the other lane. I have had several others drive my car and notice the same issue.
While driving the steering wheel becomes sticky. It is difficult to turn and requires varying levels of force, reducing accuracy and resulting in jerky movements, difficulty staying in the lines, and increasing risk of crash. No warning lights or errors are coming up for this issue. No other symptoms. Issue has been going on for about a year. If necessary I can get supporting documentation from a mechanic for this issue. No inspection from insurance or police.
When driving at highway speeds (generally around 50 to 80 mph), the steering wheel has a "sticky" feeling when trying to maintain a straight line. Making minor adjustments with the steering wheel requires excessive force to correct minor lane adjustments. This, in turn, creates a very unpleasant and unsafe driving condition as it feels like you are constantly fighting the steering wheel, just to maintain the center of your lane. Driving long periods like this also causes the driver to some what "fight" against the issue causing fatigue in the drivers hands, wrists, and arms. The larger concern is if this issue continues, or gets worse, this could easily lead to an increased risk of loss of control of the vehicle and/or crash. This seems related to a similar recall just issued by Honda for 1.7 million vehicles (including Civics) for 2022 - 2025 models by NHTSA.
Anytime I drive on the highway, the steering wheel begins to stick, causing me to need more force to correct, which causes overcorrection. I then have to correct the overcorrection which causes an overcorrection in the other direction because the steering wheel does not move smoothly. It's extremely frustrating and almost every time someone is following me, they call to ask if I'm all right due to the swerving. This can be a serious safety issue because of constant swerving due to how difficult it is to correct the car in the lane without overcorrecting, starting an overcorrection snowball. It also doesn't stop until the car is shut off and turned back on, in which case it starts up again once getting over 45mph.
Steering becomes noticeably "sticky" at highway speeds (50+). Steering wheel "sticks/freezes" near the center point and it takes some force to turn/unstick it ... then I am forced to over/re-correct the opposite direction making the car swerve right/left or vice versa. On a slick road this could cause a complete loss of control ... luckily I don't drive at highway speed on a daily basis. Car mileage is currently 57,860. This has been happening for at least a year, and I just finally remembered to Google it last night and discovered that this is a known issue with Civics.
I started having steering issues from the steering wheel being stiff and having to fight against it to keep the car in the lane of traffic. I took the car into the dealership, and the service writer stated he knew exactly what was wrong. He stated it could have gotten dangerous and could lead to a crash. I was charged 4500.00 for an electric power steering rack. After seeing the recent recalls and other same sounding issues, I am thinking the recall for the newer models, is potentially what was wrong with my 2016 Civic. I only had 33K miles on it. I had this repaired exactly 1 year ago. I feel that this recall should go back to cover the older models like mine. Seeing the other complaints from other people, it sounds like they should be covered.
Steering issues. During highway speeds driver(s) has to keep adjusting steering to make the car drive straight.
A notchy feel when you get at about 40 mph or greater. Steering kind of gives a hesitation or resistance when trying to give minor corrections to the left or right. Very noticeable on at high way speeds when trying to stay within a lane along a straight away. You have to force the steering wheel to turn and by the time it "releases" you have to over correct to not go into the next lane accidentally. Very unsafe feeling
Feels like steering wheel gets stuck when going highway speeds, takes more effort than usual to turn/ unlock to change lanes. Happens every time i drive 60+mph
The steering sticks and causes me to overcorrect to stay in my lane. I see that later models of Honda have been recalled for the same issues as my car has been having for some time now. I feel it is dangerous.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel malfunctioned and failed to immediately respond while turning the in either direction while attempting to switch lanes. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a steering module software update, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 65,000.

The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Steering is stiff and Jerky when making slight corrections
The steering locks and sticks when driving especially on a highway. It appears the rack and pinion sticks
For a while now (months), we have noticed our 2016 Honda Civic has had a "sticky" (a click or jerk) feeling when handling the steering wheel, particularly while driving on the freeway, holding long turns, or when even reversing (from an angle) into a parking stall (for the parking, a click/pop is audibly heard). Basically, the steering wheel will suddenly shift/jerk slightly left/right, which causes you to no longer be steering in the exact line you were on. Driver has to then correct by making an opposing shift in the opposite direction to return to the exact line that was being driven. It is a bit of a nuisance, and produces anxiety on the driver's part, leaving one wondering if/when the shift/jerk will cause even larger of an issue, potentially posing risk of harm to the vehicle's and neighboring vehicles' riders via a collision. Our Honda service technician recently confirmed, after our recent big maintenance service, that this issue is present and has something to do with some steering mechanism (I don't recall the correct term of the equipment/device), and that an estimated repair cost would be $3,000-$4,000. For now, we have been advised to monitor, and that basically it is up to us to decide if/when we would like to spend $3,000-$4,000 to have this repaired at our own expense. We are not aware of how this issue arose (what the exact cause is), but is potentially due manufacturing. There are no dashboard warning lights that illuminate during the shifting/jerking of the steering. We just feel it, moreso if you are the one driving. This issue is experienced daily. Our primary concern is prevention of a collision. We do not want it to get to the point of having had a collision/emergency, then reactively reporting the issue to NHTSA. And we do not have funds to purchase a new vehicle. Can we possibly have more confidence in this vehicle being able to transport our family safely without fear of steering issues? Thank you for your support.
While driving the steering wheel is sticking and have to jerk the steering wheel to prevent going into another lane. Contact Honda dealer ships and Honda corporate office and asked if there was a recall for this, they said not on my particular vehicle, but some of the Honda civics. There is no warnings, it just happens periodically.
Steering sticks when driving on interstate. Causes over correction and potentially can cause lead to swerving and hitting someone
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, frequently becoming stuck in position, requiring that the steering wheel be manually returned to center. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.

Steering is sticky or notchy when driving higher speeds. Feels like it overcorrects when trying to maintain center.
Steering sticks at a certain point of turning which makes it difficult to maintain a straight path and has almost caused a collision due to the fact that you end up over correcting your current path so you may vere into the other lane. The problem occurs at different times and seems to be at it's peak when it's hot outside and gives no warning lights or any other visible signs as to when it will occur. I bought the car used and it had around 20,000 miles on it, I noticed the issue soon after that. I have not had the problem looked at yet because it has been manageable but I fear that it may get worse and I know I'm not the only one with this issue. My vehicle may be inspected up on request.
when long distance driving it has sticky steering which cause over correction left and right making it feel unsafe to drive
The steering wheel has a tendency to “catch” or "stick" at the center line when driving. To overcome this resistance, you have to apply extra pressure, which could lead to oversteering and the car swerving out of your intended direction of steering. This is a known problem, referred to as "sticky steering" in many online searches. The only solution seems to be a complete replacement of the EPS steering rack which is on back order due to demand and I've been quoted a range of $3500 to $5000 to replace by several Honda dealers in my area. This is a serious safety issue with the vehicle and should be recalled for the replacement.
When driving on a straight road (highway, avenue, etc.) steering wheel tends to stay “sticky” at the 12 o clock position and takes some force to get it to move to make minor adjustments in steering. This makes it overcorrect and causes me to constantly gave to be adjusting to keep the car straight
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering assembly and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure was due to the steering shaft. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

* Having to adjust the wheel to maintain a straight path while driving * Steering resistance for minor adjustments while driving at highway speeds * The wheel sticks, causing the driver to need more force than usual to turn * When more force is applied to break the wheel free from its stick, the car may overcompensate in that direction * When turning, the wheel will maintain its position, not slide back to center, if hands are removed from the steering wheel
power steering rack ( part # 53560-TBA-A01. Steering is sticking when on highway driving 55+ and hard to correct. Noone at dealership can duplicate issue, however my daughter and husband have also experienced sticky steering and hard to correct. No warning lights. Diagnostic tests show nothing wrong. Honda Forums helped me figure out issue.
While driving to keep the car center the steering becomes sticky or notchy as if needing slightly extra force to microcorrect left or right to stay center. It results in slight overcorrection and some slight swaying, but feels as if control of the car is compromised, specifically at freeway speeds.
Over the past year, the steering became increasingly stiff and difficult to ;control, particularly at higher speeds. When we took it to our local Honda dealership, we were told that this is a common (and expensive) problem with this year and model. They also said not to take it on long trips, as the steering could lock if turned hard. The needed repair parts (see attached repair bill) were on backorder for nearly 2 months and cost over $4,000 to install.
The steering is very sticky when driving at higher speeds on the highway. It seems to start after hot days or after 15 to 30 min. of driving. The over correction when it gets stuck and having to force it back to center makes it swerve while driving. I have read many forums with the same model reporting the same issues with their EPS system and steering rack system. This is a huge safety issue and should be recalled and fixed as soon as possible.
When driving the vehicles steering is not smooth. When making adjustments the steering is very jerky causing you to overcorrect. Searching the honda forums I'm finding lots of others reporting the same issue.
The steering is sticky. When driving the car the steering wheel will stick and the driver has to force the wheel. This causes a very scary driving experience.
Steering wheel is ongoing stiff and jerky when going above 45mph. It has been almost two years of dealing with it. We have tried troubleshooting but it seems to be a common issue as well as AC system keeps failing. We are repairing for 2nd time within a year and half. While AC failure isn't a safety issue the faulty steering is. It makes car hard to control and can cause an accident because minor adjustments can't be made while driving. There dozens of complaints besides mine.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to adjust the steering wheel, the steering wheel was sticking. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was test-driven, and the failure was replicated. The dealer determined that further diagnostic testing was required. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Sticky steering have to over correct and not really safe to drive. Went to the Honda dealership and they quotes me 3500 for repair but I have no warranty! It isn't safe for my kids and I to drive but it's my only transportation. I've read many complains of these cars having this issue and having to have rack replacements.
While driving at highway speeds the steering can feel "sticky" where extra effort is required to make small adjustments to keep the car properly centered in the lane. It happens most frequently during warm weather and/or when driving for longer than 20-30 minutes. The effort required to compensate for the issue leads to a delay in the course correction and frequently over steering. Either of which can be a safety issue as the former could lead to being unable to avoid an object on the road and the latter could lead to veering into oncoming traffic.
Steering wheel sticks noticeably above 40 miles per hour. Mostly sticks whenever the steering wheel is straight, but happens otherwise as well. Trying to make minor or major corrections results in needing to fight the steering wheel to do necessary movements. Is consistent at this point and has been reproduced by an independent service center. No warning lamps are on and no DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) either.
Steering becomes “sticky” intermittently. Steering wheel requires additional force beyond what is normal to change direction and turn wheels. Issue seems most prevalent at highway speeds when navigating bends in the road that require 10-20 degrees of steering deflection in either direction of center. Once the steering wheel is held at such an angle for a few seconds consecutively it takes substantially more force than normal from the driver to move the steering wheel back towards center. This results in over correction and makes it difficult to control the vehicle and keep it in one lane. Issue is also observed occasionally when making minor corrections to keep the vehicle in its lane on straight stretches of highway. Issue occurs with VSA system on and off. Turning the LKAS on or off has no effect. Issue is intermittent but seems more prevalent during warmer weather.
Power steering sticks making small lane maintaining adjustments difficult. Usually happens after the vehicle has been outside in warm weather. Often results in over-correcting, causing vehicle to veer too far within the lane resulting in another correction in the opposite direction. It makes maintaining safe distance from other vehicles or barriers difficult. There are no warning lamps, check engine light, or messages prior to or after the problem. The vehicle is in otherwise excellent condition and has not been inspected by a dealer or mechanic for this problem.
Steering "sticks" when moving the wheel from center in order to make minor corrections at highway speeds. Overcoming the "stick" requires using additional force resulting in overcorrection and swerving. This is a serious safety concern.
The steering “locks”. To make a small steering adjustment, the car JERKS to the right. A “clicking” has also recently started at the same time of the steering and jerking motion of the car. I was stopped for suspicious DUI. I had to provide the officer with multiple forums discussing the EXACT problem. I reported the problem more than a year ago to the dealership.
Steering feels sticky when driving on highways. It required some force to move it slightly.
After driving for about 15-20 mins and driving at highway speeds, the steering becomes "sticky" to the point that gentle force meets resistance and more force has to be applied for correction. There is resistance to the wheel that has to be overcome. Standard steering controls. The advanced driving assisted steering is NOT an option on this model. The wheel resists the gentle input at first and greater force has to be issued until enough pressure is exerted and then an over correction happens. This overcorrection has lead to "lane drift" and then has to be corrected AGAIN...and with same sequence....gentle input with locked response then greater force....this has to be done quickly to avoid collision in heavy fast moving traffic which is ALL I drive in. I bought the car certified used 3 years ago while this issue was present but this is a KNOWN issue by you. NO warning lamps.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact research and learned that it was a known issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Steering becomes “sticky” when ambient temperature is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit or after driving from 30 minutes. Small adjustments in steering can not be done because steering sticks in position and causes more force to move it. This causes an over adjustment and swerving to keep the car in the lane.
While going down the highway the wheel will stick you have to push it to put back in line with the road. Kinda like sticky steering.
The steering becomes sticky or stuck in position at higher speeds causing me to have to jerk the wheel back and forth to keep the car in the lane. It's very unsafe at highway speeds.
Car suffers from sticky steering like the other newer civics and it is a very scary issue. My car does not drive straight and as it is getting hotter in Louisiana my car is acting up more. I am constantly swerving to keep it straight. Almost hit car in another lane and I have to fight against the wheel to make it stay straight. There are no warning lights. I have regular maintenance done. It also tried to turn another way when I go from a slow to fast speed, making merging or turning into an interstate feel dangerous. Honda dealership checked it and found “no issues” they just did an alignment and said that was it. Well the sticky steering still exists and is getting worse. Please make a recall I do not feel safe.
“Sticky steering” The steering wheel will “stick” while driving causing the driver to over compensate to “unstick” it. I have owned the vehicle since new from dealer and it has always been a problem to some degree. In the beginning it would happen very sporadically maybe 1 or 2 times a year for very short periods. The longer it has gone the worse it has gotten and is now to the point of happening every time it is driven. It will starting pulling slightly in one direction and then when you jerk it to pull it back it wants to pull in the other direction. It’s a constant fight to keep it on the road and I have had many close calls so much that I am not comfortable driving it and took it to the Honda dealership for diagnosis. They came back stating that the steering gearbox had an internal fault and needed to be replaced. Honda is aware of the issue with this make and model but is not willing to correct the it. This, needs to be addressed as it is truly a safety hazard not only for the driver of the vehicle but also other drivers on the road.
Sticky and jerky steering at all speeds requiring overcorrection left or right from center and left at about 10 o'clock. No warning lights on dashboard. Dealer confirmed symptoms and replaced steering rack assembly part #53650-TBC-A22.
The steering wheel, when turning either left or right, even slightly, gets stuck almost feels like it locks and when steering to opposite side, you need to tug/jerk the steering wheel to get it unstuck. When you jerk the wheel to get it unstuck, the car wants to veer sharply in the the direction being pulled. There were several close calls evading striking a car in the lane next to my car due to the veering trying to unstick the steering wheel. This locking happens in all modes of driving - straight, fast, slow, and on curves. It does not appear at speeds under 25 mph. The sensation of losing total control of the steering is overwhelming especially when traveling on the highway at highway speeds. The sensation of losing total control is enhanced when in a curve. There is also the sensation of potential total loss of the steering. My first car was purchased in 1968 and over the years I have learned to take notice of potential dangerous conditions in vehicles. I am not a happy camper with the steering on this vehicle. The internet gossip is that it is a known issue. I do not want to wind up injured or causing injury to others because of a manufacturers defect.
Driving down the road while at higher speeds the steering wheel sticks in one spot for minor adjustments. This can cause over corrections on the drivers part and may cause a wreck involving other vehicles. It has been documented on many forums online, about others having problems with the steering with the 2016 Honda civics. This is no exception.
The steering becomes sticky after driving for about 15 minutes or so and seems to occur more on warmer days (above 70F). this occurs both at highway speeds and also at lower speeds. For example when making a slight turn to the left or right the wheel will stick at that position and you will need to force the wheel to go back to center. This can cause you to over steer and end up out of your lane. Additionally at highway speeds making the steering whell will get stuck when making slight adjustments to keep the car in its lane. forcing the wheel each time causes you to ping pong within your lane and sometimes veer out of your lane. This is very dangerous and also makes it look like you are distracted or drunk driving. Issue was confirmed by a honda dealer and indicated that the entire rack needed to be replaced. No warning lights or codes stored for the issue.
My civic (2016) is having the same 'sticking steering wheel' issue as the later year cars that are currently being recalled. This is well documented in the Honda civic forums and YouTube videos. This can lead to a very serious accident as the car can be uncontrollable. The steering wheel 'sticks' then to get it unstuck you have to apply more pressure to 'unstick' the steering wheel which results in the car swerving in the lane, it is very dangerous...
My steering wheel is very sticky. Doesn't happen until I've been driving at highway speeds for at least 15 minutes. It's also worse when it's warmer. My steering wheel is so sticky to the left to the point where I don't feel safe and feel like I could fly off the curves if don't drive under the speed limit (ie feel need to drive 60mph around bends on a 70mph highway).
-Steering seems to stick after long periods of highway driving, yes the car is available for inspection. -Need to overcorrect and at high speeds this could be dangerous. -No, I have taken it in to Honda for service and they cannot reproduce. I don't think they are driving it enough, I only notice it when driving for long distances. -No -No warnings
steering is sticking causing over correction when occurs. Most noticeable at highway speeds. Has been happening last 10,000 miles or 8 months.
I have noticed my steering wheel sticking consistently for the past year or so. I mostly notice this when driving on the highway at higher speeds. It requires a forceful tug in the right direction, which causes the car to jerk slightly.
When driving at high speeds on straight roads, the steering wheel “catches” or feels sticky when it hits the middle and makes it hard to keep the car straight and requires extra effort to turn it further. This can be quite dangerous.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became firm, and was sticking while turning in direction. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was more noticeable while driving at highway speeds, and caused the vehicle to drift to either side, causing the driver to make additional adjustments to keep the vehicle driving straight. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,000.
Mileage: 31,000
Power steering locks up a bit after driving for 20-30 mins. The steering is notchy and hard to turn the wheels. Dealership said the power steering assembly needs replacement which is cover for 2017 and later. Not 2016. Even it’s the same generation and same symptoms. This is a safety issue and 2016 year model should be recalled as well.
Steering wheel stocks after about 20 miles of highway driving. Very hard to maintain lane. Major safety issue. Purchased for teen driver now I’m scared to death to let her drive. No warning lights. Lots of complaints on line. This is a major safety concern and should be investigated and a recall for repair. This is unfair to consumers
When driving at highway speeds, the power steering seems to stick when the wheel has not been turned for a few seconds (as in driving on a straight away). When minor corrections are needed, the steering wheel sticks, which results in a slight over correction. The conditions under which this happens is: warm air temperature, driving time over 15 minutes, and driving at highway speed.
When driving freeway speeds, steering is very loose and difficult to control. When driving more than 30 minutes or more, the steering locks up and have to give it a jerk to gain control of steering. Mileage on 2016 Honda Civic is 58272 as of inspection by Honda on 1/17/24. Honda verified issue is Steering Rack which thousands of 2016 Honda Civic owners are reporting same issue. Original issue began in 2019 and reported to Honda at that time. Please review complaint. Thank you.
My steering wheel sticks when the engine has been warmed up, requiring extra force to begin turning it. This can make small adjustments on the road difficult, and means I have to overcorrect all the time and have trouble staying in my lane. It happens after driving ~20 minutes on warm days (above 70 degrees). The vehicle has been inspected by an independent mechanic, and I was told the only solution is replacing the entire steering rack. No warning lights have come on. This is NOT an isolated incident-- it happens every time the vehicle is driven for 20+ minutes on a warm day, and gets worse the longer it's driven.
As others have stated, steering becomes very sticky at highway speeds, especially on sweeping curves. When trying to straighten car back out, the steering sticks and requires extra pressure to get the steering wheel to turn. Once it comes free it causes the car to veer in the other direction. It is at times very difficult to put minor corrections into the steering to maintain the car in my lane. Honda dealer says it is the “torque sensor magnet” sticking and would require a steering rack replacement in the neighborhood of $4000. I have been back and forth with Honda corporate and they have denied any extended warranty or customer good will on this issue.
My 18 year old daughter's 2016 Honda Civic has been having problems with her steering wheel where while driving on the highway or driving straight for a while, the steering wheel gets stuck and in order to stop it from sticking, she would have to jerk the car a little bit which causes her to swerve and it is a big problem if it happens while there are other cars around her. I have read numerous articles about this same problem with the same year, make and model of the car.
The steering wheel 'sticks' at highway speeds and makes it difficult to make minor adjustments. Have to apply more than normal force to turn the wheel and causes the car to overcompensate and jolt. Could be quite dangerous.
Steering rack is faulty. Known issue on thousands of 2016 honda civics. Honda told me my battery dying and the sticky steering wheel is from a faulty steering rack and quoted me $4000 to fix it. This car does not even have 80,000 miles on it and it 7 years old. This issue has caused multiple accidents and I have 2 children. I am scared to drive this vehicle. If this is a known faulty steering rack issue why am I subjected to pay out of pocket?
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Steering wheel sticking at highway speeds when on a curved road or when changing lanes. Might be a loss of power steering. Occurs once or twice in 100 highway miles. Only temporary solution is to jerk the wheel with enough force to unstick it and regain control, which is not safe or ideal. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Loss of control of the vehicle. Departing own lane without intention. Possibility of collision with an adjacent vehicle. Possibility of overcorrection and complete loss of control without ability to regain control, resulting in a single vehicle crash. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, the local Honda dealer wants to charge $150.00 to inspect the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, none.
When driving for a while on the freeway, my steering wheel gets sticky causing me to oversteer to compensate. Which causes my car to swerve on the road.
Steering starts sticking every few seconds after about a 20 minute drive, and veering sideways. I lost a sideview mirror due to this and its very dangerous to drive. Probably has killed peapel already!! This happens every single time I drive this!
At 63k miles the Honda Civic steering wheel started sticking /jerking when changing lanes on the interstate. The steering rack EPS needs to be replaced. Only happens when you are driving for over an hour. This is not something you will notice commuting for 10-15 minutes to work. No warning on the dash. Warranty can't help us since we are second owners. We purchased it for our teenager 60 days ago and it's not safe for her to drive.
Both steering and brake system warning lights came on and steering wheel locked in to place with no prior warning indications of power steering rack failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became firm, and was sticking while turning in either direction. The contact stated that the failure was more noticeable while driving at highway speeds, and caused the vehicle to drift to either side, causing the driver to make addition steering wheel adjustments to keep the vehicle driving straight. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 60,000.

I have a 2016 Honda civic around 48,000-50,000.00 miles I have noticed that the steering in my vehicle gets sticky/stuck while driving. This usually occurs on the highway while I’m driving at higher speeds and when I’ve been on the road for about 30 minutes. While driving on the highway the steering wheel gets “stuck” towards the left and I have to pull it to correct this position. It has made me fearful while driving especially at high speeds and I feel like the entire drive I have to white knuckle the wheel. If I do not continue to make the correction then the car would veer off into another lane. This is extremely dangerous and unsafe. It has also happened while I’ve slowed down to a traffic light and when I pulled the steering wheel back out of the sticky position I heard an adamant click. I started researching and saw there are hundred if not thousands of these reports. I did send Honda a message to open a case which they sent a standard message back just saying to bring it to the dealer and closed the case. This needs to be fixed or rectified by Honda. I saw that there were some lawsuits but that they didn’t include 2016. It seems that the problem with all of these is the EPS Rack Assembly which is a fault with the manufacturer.
Our vehicle has just over 60,000 miles and has developed a significant "sticking" in the steering. This starts at around 50 miles per hour and gets progressively worse as speed increases. It doesn't completely seize but requires significant pressure to break the sticking. This could easily result in an overcompensation that leads to a loss of control. Once over 50 miles per hour, this issue requires constant attention by the driver. It is not an intermittent issue. We took this vehicle to a Honda dealer for repairs in July, but it still hasn't been repaired yet due to a shortage of the parts needed to repair this issue that is apparently well known by the Honda service technicians. Insult to injury is that once this is repaired, it will cost me over $3,000 as Honda has rejected our request to cover this repair.
Steering wheel sticks and you are not able to change direction without using excessive force. This happens when driving at highway speeds and seems to be worse (more force needed to turn wheel) at higher temperatures, 80+. The sticking steering causes you to oversteer and may cause you to lose control of the vehicle and crash.
Sticky steering wheel, feels notching while driving
Steering intermittently sticks when trying to make small adjustments to stay in lane. It has been doing this for the last couple years.
The steering sticks around highway speeds which causes me to over correct. The vehicle feels unsafe to drive and I am being told it will cost close to $4,000.00 to replace the electronic steering rack.
I recently moved so I am traveling on the interstate more. In doing so, I've noticed after about 15-20 minutes at higher speeds, my steering wheel starts sticking. I have to fight to stay in my lane. It's scary as well as exhausting. I've researched and see other complaints just like mine. Why has this issue not been addressed by Honda? It makes me scared to go visit family or do any traveling at all. I bought this vehicle used in 2019 but this issue really didn't surface until I moved and started driving more on the interstate. I noticed it some before but since most of my driving was in town, it didn't occur often. Please have Honda address this as it definitely is a safety issue. I feel like I'm going to drive off the road the whole time I'm on the interstate.
Steering- the Steering wheel jerks when I make incremental movements to the left or right. This only occurs when I'm driving on a freeway at or above 55mph. It does not occur on surface streets. I brought it to Autonation Honda in Chandler, AZ. They said it was the Rack Motor or Rack Pinion motor and it needs to be replaced. The advisor said that they have seen many 2016 Civics with this issue. Total out-of-pocket cost $3700.00. Part was not available even if I decided to have it replaced. I feel this should be addressed since this is a major safety issue caused by the manufacturer and should be recalled.
The steering wheel get stuck/ jerks in position and to correct stuck position/ jerks it causes you to correct your lane position. You feel out of control for a second or so. Purchased vehicle in 2019, in 2020/21, this happened and I took it into the dealership where we purchased the car and they did an alignment. After that alignment, steering/jerky/sticky wheel did not happen as much but it still happened and is getting worse. So this weekend I took the vehicle back to the dealership for the same issue again. According to the dealership. their technician(s) test drove the car and they did not feel the sticky and jerky wheel. Generally this happens when the vehicle has been driven for longer than 20-30 mins and when you are going 40-70 mph. The technician(s) stated that they could not reproduce this in their test drive. But it is still happening as I drove home from the dealership. I am not sure how they could not see and feel the constant wheel movement maintain control of the lane. It's sometimes hard to hold lane control especially going at a higher rates of speed. I see 200+ complaints similar to this issue with the 2016 Honda Civic. This dealership states that they see nothing wrong. But there is definitely still something wrong with this year model. I wanted to go on record and voice my concerns about this issue like many others.
Steering is getting stuck while driving on highways and/or higher speeds. Appears to be a consistent issue with Honda civics complaints/issues after researching. Requires replacing EPS, approx $2-3k. Not due to wear and tear. Vehicle at less than 30,000 total miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 40-60 MPH, the steering wheel became firm. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact jerked the steering wheel side to side and the steering wheel started operating normally. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. No further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
Mileage: 49,000
Steering has become sticky, especially when driving straight on a highway or at higher speeds. Extra force is needed to maintain position in lane and move the wheel. The pressure required to turn the wheel past the stuck position causes the driver to over correct excessively making it difficult to stay in the lane.
The steering is sticking - the same as all these other reports I'm seeing below. It is worse in the afternoons (higher temperatures I guess) and definitely more noticeable at highway speeds. Took the car to the dealer and they said that even though my car only has 36k miles it needs a new (electric) rack & pinion system for $4000 !! Ridiculous. I was advised that the dealer is well aware of the issue (I was the 2nd case this week that my service advisor was dealing with) but there's nothing they (the dealer) are doing at the moment other than referring it to corporate Honda U.S. I dont know whats going to happen if the situation gets worse - does the steering stop steering or get continually harder to steer ... is a definite safety issue.
Steering wheel becomes stuck in a certain position at highway speeds after 20+ minutes of driving and it requires an unnatural amount of force to free it, thus resulting in a sudden jerking motion that makes driving highly unsafe. Honda dealerships are quoting Civic owners $4K for an issue that is WELL known (200+ complaints on NHTSA and an active investigation on the 11th gen Civics with the same issue (https://www.autoblog.com/2023/03/21/nhtsa-honda-civic-sticky-power-steering-investigation/#:~:text=The%20National%20Highway%20Traffic%20Safety,reports%20of%20the%20issue%2C%20too.))
Steering wheel is quite hard to turn. Gets kind of stuck at certain points when I’m driving. Fluids all good. Don’t understand why this is happening.
Steering sticks making it difficult to change direction. It has a significant resistance when changing direction, this is troublesome especially at higher speeds. The consumer stated that the steering issue happens frequently and is not limited to just one occurrence.
My car's steering has been sticky and catching. This often causes me to apply unnecessary pressure to correct the steering and could cause an accident. I had it verified at Honda of Murfreesboro that I need a new steering rack.
When I’m driving the steering wheel gets stuck and the only way to get it unstuck is to pull hard enough to break the jam. It always gets stuck pulling to the left because every time I have to get it unstuck I have to pull to the right to break the jam.It happens every day and it’s really frustrating. Every time this happens is after 15-20 minutes driving. This is a serious safety hazard specially in a long drive because you are literally fighting the car to keep it in the center of the lane! 2016 Honda civic touring 62,000 miles It started doing this after 3 years with the car and approximately 37,000 miles. I remember because I took the car to the dealership and they told me that my basic warranty had expired at 36,000 miles or 3 years and the diagnosis and fixtures were going to be out of my pocket.
When I am driving on the highway, my car steering will get "stuck" and I can't make adjustments to the wheel without jerking on it to get it unstuck. I am bringing the car in to get serviced again this week. The sticking results in unsafe travel on the road because it is difficult to maintain my lane. It usually starts to happen 15-20 minutes into a drive and then will not go away until after the car has been off for a significant period of time, but will recur the next time I drive on the highway. The vehicle has been serviced by a dealer and the problem went away for a while, but has recurred. It has not been inspected by any parties other than the dealer. I do not know if they were able to reproduce the problem. There are no warnings, messages, or other symptoms before the wheel sticks.
After driving for over :30 minutes steering wheel sticks and is jerky to turn. It has a dead spot that requires a higher breakout force to get the wheel to turn , once wheel is turning there are normal steering forces required to continue the turn.
Sticki steering wheel on the freeway
The vehicle steering is sticky. When the vehicle is started, the steering is fine. However, after about 15 minutes of driving, the problem is most noticeable when trying to keep the car straight at around 40 mph and higher. When making fine adjustments to keep the car straight on the freeway, the steering gets stuck then suddenly releases when making fine adjustments. This causes the vehicle to jerk from side to side when trying to keep my vehicle in my lane...I have taken my vehicle in to 2 independent service centers but the problem seems to temporarily go away if the vehicle is turned off for a little while. Only to return when I leave the service center around 15 minutes later...There are no codes or warning lights that appear...My Civic is a 2016 but only has 12,400 miles. The steering problem started at around 9,000 miles.
My car has had a sticky steering wheel problem for over a year now. I’m at 75k miles, the problem started at least around 60k miles. The wheel feels heavy and I have to over correct due to that stickiness. I can’t drive straight when I am on the highway. I continuously have to correct to keep the wheel straight. It does not feel safe. Last year my battery died and changing the battery helped the sticky steering a little but only for a short time. I think the problem has something to do with the power steering.
Steering, same as other complaints. Intermittent sticking of the steering wheel. Constantly have to force steering wheel in order to maintain lane. Steering wheel seems to lock, have to force it to stay straight. Problem started couple years ago, at about 35K miles, and at 70K it is getting worse. And the cost---ha-unreal!!!
This car has given me the same repeating issues. Winter time the screen blinks blank. AC issues because of the design. Feeling the car with my foot on the break at a red light makes me want to puke. And the big one the steering. After driving on the highway for a bit, I notice the steering has a sticky kind of groove it likes to be in. I have not found a solution to the problem. Safety-camera screen blinking but you're used to using it, could potentially hit something. Nausea in traffic not good for any one. Steering-trying to maintain a lane while the steering gets stuck to the left but the road is veering to the right, it's terrifying. The car has a mind of its own and only performs when it wants...no official dealer report. I don't believe there are any official reports in regards to my vehicle. There have been NO lights or any kind of warning or messages about this. AC was about a year into having the car. The screen happened first winter and every winter since. The sticky steering wheel has been like herpes for about the past 5 years. I just want to have nice things that work. Thank you for your time.
The steering wheel sticks constantly while driving the car. This is a major safety concern because many times it sticks hard enough to the point where you can over correct while trying to overcome the stuck position of the steering wheel. This can cause you to drive erratically trying to keep the car between the lanes. We have not taken it to the dealership since we are aware now that this is a an issue amongst a large number of Honda Civic owners and the manufacture needs to step in and rectify this problem they already know about. It's not just our 2012 model, it is an issue amongst several different year models with the Honda Civic. We are just another victim of negligence by the manufacturer. Something needs to be done to correct this issue before people are injured because of it.
Car has an intermittent steering problem noticeable mostly at highway speeds. Its not constant, just shows up randomly. While driving straight ahead attempting to keep it going straight the steering wheel becomes sticky and jerky when you attempt to slightly adjust (turn left or right). Wile applying slight pressure to turn minimally the steering wheel sticks in place, then suddenly jerks in the direction you trying to steer it towards, causing oversteering and resulting in an attempt to oversteer it back to the other direction (to try and keep it in the lane going straight). It is not only annoying but also very unsafe as the sudden jerking and oversteering can cause a highway collision unexpectedly. My car has only 7,500 miles on it and this just started happening (May 2023).
The incident started 2-3 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. When driving, for usually 20+ minutes, the steering wheel will become stiff. This is most noticeable when driving in straight lines or trying to keep the car in the lane on the highway. This requires more effort to straighten the car out which leads to oversteering. Given the high speeds on the highway and impact of small movements in the steering wheel, I believe this to be a serious safety concern to occupants of the Honda Civics and nearby vehicles. I am unsure if a system has failed or if there is a malfunction but upon further research this appears to not be an isolated incidence with a significant amount of forum discussions relating to this exact issue. The problem has not been reproduced a this time in front of a service center representative. There has been no warning of any kind relating to this issue.
Steering wheel becomes stiff when driving at highway speeds, especially after the car has been operating for at least 20 minutes. The experience is similar to turning your steering wheel with the ignition off and no power assist. I thought I was going to lose control of the vehicle as I fought the steering wheel to stay centered in my lane and had to immediately pull over to the shoulder on the highway. First time it happened was September of 2020. When it continued, I no longer drove on the highway. I also experienced the issue when driving through a roundabout at 5 mph. It felt like the steering wheel locked up and I nearly crashed into the median before regaining control. Almost three years later, it continues to happen at highway speeds so I took it to the dealership for diagnosis because I only have 24,000 miles on the vehicle and cannot take it on road trips. Dealer confirmed the electronic power steering rack needs to be replaced at a cost of $4,000.00. This is a 2016 Honda Civic purchased new with only 24,000 miles to date and is undriveable at highway speeds due to safety issues and the dealer actually diagnosed a defective electronic power steering rack. Service tech said "too bad you don't own the 2017 Civic because a recall was issued for the power steering and you'd be covered 100%." This is an extremely expensive repair for a known defect. Please issue a recall for the 2016 Honda Civic electronic power steering system. Customers should not have to pay for the repair out of pocket for a defective part.
Steering is sticking at hwy speeds. Over corrects hard to the left and/or right while I'm trying to keep the vehicle center. It is a continuous issue.
Hello, I've had my 2016 Honda Civic LX for almost 4 years now and noticed within the first year that the steering seemed to start getting "sticky" once I reach speeds over 35 mph. I brushed it off with the excuse that I live in a hot area, and maybe some things that I just don't understand are happening with the components. Yet, throughout the last year (55k-65k miles) it's becoming unbearable. To be specific, when I'm on the highway and I turn the vehicle towards the left or the right, the entire steering wheel feels like it catches on some kind of notch. This "catch" results in me having to use excessive force to steer the vehicle in the direction I'm trying to go. This makes me very concerned and nervous when I'm changing lanes, turning onto a street, or even simply following the curve of the road, as it can cause jerking motion and overcorrection. I've brought the vehicle into a Honda dealership before and the mechanic said he noticed what I was talking about, but was unsure of the cause. It did not get resolved, as I don't have the money to throw random components at it. This is my only vehicle and daily driver, I would be open to making it available for inspection. I have not had any one besides the dealership look into the problem. There has been no warning lights in the dash, and no other issues with this vehicle. The first experience I have with the sticky steering was 2020, at around 35k miles.
The steering wheel sticks around the center point when left still for a few seconds. This leads to resistance in the steering when trying to make adjustments after driving straight. I am open to having the issue inspected. The main issue this leads to is oversteering, which is a serious safety concern especially when I am driving at higher speeds on the road. Greater force is needed to make adjustments when it sticks at the center line and results in longer reaction time for steering response and swerving when too much force is applied to unstick the steering. I haven't yet taken it to service center, but this issue continues to persist while I drive, so I don't have any worries about it being able to be reproduced. It also seems that this is becoming a more prevalent issue with this generation of Honda Civics, so I am not the only one experiencing this issue. No other symptoms predated the onset of the steering issue.
There is stickiness in the steering. When driving on the highway in a straight direction, there is an initial resistance or stickiness to turn the wheel from the neutral position.
Steering has become extremely sticky. Extra force must be taken to maintain position in lane. The pressure required to turn the wheel past the catchy position causes the vehicle to maneuver excessively making it difficult to remain in the proper lane. This is extremely dangerous on wet roads at highway speeds.
Steering "sticks" when making minor adjustments left or right to maintain direction, particularly on the highway. The force required to overcome the resistance causes it to overcorrect in the other direction. Wheels have recently been balanced and aligned by authorized Honda dealer.
The steering is "sticky" especically after running the car for 10 minutes or more. A slight movement of the steering wheel - feels like it gets stuck and have to put more effort moving the wheel. Then the wheel will let loose and over compensate the steering. Very dangerous. This has happened on and off for 2 years or so, but now happens every time we drive the car. Took to the local Honda dealer and they said the Rack and Pinion system needs replaced. The estimate for replacement is $4,200. I have seen that there are many other people with the problem and hope that a recall will happen soon.
When driving over 40 mph the steering sticks constantly. It is difficult to control the car and I’m fearful of over correcting. I was originally told it needed an alignment, but the problem returned. Honda now states it’s the steering rack and will cost $4000. This seems to be a common problem and I feel Honda should stand behind their product, as this is a huge safety concern.
The steering wheel sometimes get "sticky" and hard to move. It is dangerous because sometimes you have to drag the steering wheel to get it unstuck. There have been multiple reports on the same issue with my car and newer models. There are no warning lights, the steering wheel just start to stick making a dangerous on the road
Just bought vehicle during march. Still Winter in Northern Michigan. And this month in April I've noticed with the warmer days the steering sticks directly dead center at highway speeds. And requires a bit of force to be able to maintain direction. Once getting it "unstuck" it usually causes oversteering. Causing panic and almost getting me pulled over numerous times. My drive is an hour home from work. At 70+mph. Never been so aggravated to drive a vehicle I've only had for a month and a half. Vehicle only has 60,000mi. Took to two techs. Both have stated it's common and that there's no presented diagnosis besides a faulty EPS module from the factory. Hate this vehicle.
The power steering on the 2016 Honda Civic. While driving it is hard to gain control over the vehicle and the steering wheel tends to lock in place. It is UNKNOWN if the problem has been reproduced. The vehicle has been inspected by others. There is no warning lamps or message prior to failure.
Highway driving in the mountains. When making minor, stay-in-my-lane corrections the steering stopped being smooth. It felt like it was binding or sticking and would require more pressure to change direction then it would pop to another sticky spot. It sometimes adjusted too much and required a re-correction in the opposite direction. At no time was this enough to cause me to steer out of my lane but it was alarming.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the steering wheel became firm and jerked. Additionally, while at a complete stop, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that her father inspected the vehicle and stated that the steering rack assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Mileage: 30,000
The investigation into the complaint that the Honda Civic steering becomes stiff at higher speeds and after driving for a while needs to include 2016 models. This has been noticeable on the highway and is becoming way more problematic as the car ages. I've noticed this for a while - maybe from the original purchase of the car. It is getting worse though as the second hour of our trip was almost unbearable and felt very unsafe.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the electronic braking system, steering, alternator, check engine, and TPMS warning lights illuminated. After shifting into drive(D), the vehicle lost power steering functionality and became difficult to turn. The braking system warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic and the contact was informed electronic power steering rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure was 46,000.
Mileage: 46,000
An internal steering rack failure is involuntarily interfering with the electronic power steering system making the steering sticking or notchy at speeds under 45 mph. At highway speeds this same internal failure causes a prevalent and strong steering drift. Then upon correction to center the steering sticks and then releases to give back control. Sometimes this happens 3 times a minute. The longer you drive the more frequent the failure mode happens. After four hours of driving my arms were tired. On 23 Mar 2023 the vehicle was inspected by a certified Honda Dealer technician including a 4 mile drive test. The inspection report declared that the "STEERING RACK HAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE CAUSING THE STEERING TO FEEL NOTCHY". To remedy the problem the dealer recommended a steering rack assembly change out which would entail about 5 hours of labor. An alignment was also recommended. Including the assembly part, alignment, labor and inspection report the total came to approximately $4800. I decided to take the car from the dealer and with a friend record the number of failure instances and video the highway speed failure mode. The dealer had advised me on the inspection report invoice that the "VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE" but I also didn't want the car to be held hostage for $4800. On 27 March 2023 I called American Honda to request assistance with this repair. The 2016 Honda Civic model year has the highest number of steering complaints from 2010 to 2022. The replacement steering rack part is in its third iteration. My car was made in Dec 2015 in the early production on a new generation. Even though my car has 73,000 miles Honda should recall these early steering rack models and replace them at their expense providing a safe steering rack assembly to their customers. A copy of the Vehicle inspection report and invoice is attached. Note that that the vehicle is declared not safe to drive by the Honda Dealer and I am stranded away from home awaiting a fair resolution
While operating the vehicle on the highway the steering was not smooth when starting to turn the wheel. There was a short hesitation or loss of power assistance while turning to follow the direction of the roadway. This occurrence was very brief while turning the steering wheel. The steering problem lasted for several days. Later when taking the vehicle to be inspected for this problem there was no steering difficulty at all. The vehicle was inspected, computer analyzed and test driven finding no fault with the steering. Although there seems to be no problem at this time it is unknown if this could possibly be an "intermittent problem"?
Steering catches at highway speeds for a split second.
At highway speeds while trying to keep the vehicle straight and in my lane, the steering sticks while trying to make minor adjustments to stay in my lane. I have to apply more force to my steering and I end up overcorrecting and it becomes very hard to stay straight and in my lane. This is only at highway speeds, anywhere from 60-75 mph, I have not noticed this happening at lower speeds. It seems something is happening with with the steering wheel or something in the electronic power steering system is malfunctioning. There are no warning lights on my car, I have talked to several certified Honda master technicians about this issues and they recognize the symptoms and tell me it is the electronic power steering rack having issues. My vehicle has only 42,000 miles.
When car is driven above 40 mph the steering wheel sticks. Extra effort is required to maintain midline steering. Extra effort is required to break the persistent sticking pattern, which can cause loss of control.
Steering system console. Remove and replace rack and pinion assembly
Steering wheel has become stuck/jerky on the freeway. This causes me to swerve all over the road. The wheel sticks after it's been still for more than a couple seconds. To make a steering correction to stay in my lane I need to apply more force to make a small adjustment. This causes the car to swerve when the steering wheel breaks free. Then it sticks in the new position, and I end swerving the other way when it breaks free again. Dealer says only fix is to replace entire steering rack and wants $3500 for repair. Car has 55000 miles and is no longer under warranty. Called an independent Honda repair shop to get an estimate. The independent shop told me they have replaced a few. Problem apparently affects many Civics from model year 2016 through 2022. Unfortunately, the replacement rack is the same part number and has failed the same way again in some cars. This should be a safety recall and repaired ant Hondas expense.
Slight momentary resistance to turning the wheel, usually only on long interstate drives
Every time my 2016 civic is driven for about 30 minutes straight above 60 mph the steering starts to become stiff and jerky. It feels as if the steering wheel locks into place and you must pull on the steering wheel to get it out of position while driving causing serious danger to myself and those driving near me. People who have driven behind me while the issue has happened have notified me that it looks like a drunk driver is at the wheel due to the jerking that needs to be done to get the steering wheel out of position. Driving speed limit on the expressway after 30 minutes has become a hazard and is very unfortunate due to the car only being about 6 years old. It has been going on for quite some time now and is a frequent issue that is popped up on civic forums for models 2016-2019.
Driving on the highway I started to feel the steering stick while keeping the car centered in my lane. To release the steering stick issue a stronger input was needed by me to control the car. It seemed to me the steering sticking issue occurs only at highway speed. This started with about 32,000 miles on the car. Although it never became an actual safety issue there was always the fear the steering would lock up and I would not be able to control the steering. At no time was there any visual indication (warning light(s)) for the condition. I have not taken the car to the dealership for inspection. Police nor insurance company were notified over this issue. The auto is available for inspection.
Steering wheel has some extra resistance (sticking, stiff and jerky) when making small corrections at any speeds, resulting in extra pressure being applied to break the resistance, resulting in sharp (hard) correction changes. When make small steering adjustments it has resistance, then suddenly becomes easy. This can cause oversteering when correcting.
1st Steering wheel pops on highway 65+mph, I've taken my vehicle to dealership to get diagnosed supposedly couldn't find anything wrong, I've even taken a service rep for a drive to show them what is happening they noticed but service told him not to do anything! Second issue squealing noise coming from wheel bearings I took my car to 2 different shops, Honda and wheel shop both places can't determine where noise is coming from!
Typically during highway driving, steering becomes extremely sticky and requires significant effort to make even slight adjustments to keep the car on the road and even forces over correction which has occurred on multiple occasions
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while her husband was driving 60 MPH and turning the steering wheel to the right, the vehicle would drift to the left. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to continue driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the vehicle needed an alignment. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was drifting and failed to move as needed and continued to jerk. The contact forced the steering wheel into position however, the action would overcorrect the vehicle. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was jerking and the vehicle was difficult to turn. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer again where it was diagnosed and determined that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 47,466.
Mileage: 47,466
Steering wheel has some extra resistance (sticking, stiff and jerky) when making small corrections at any speeds, resulting in extra pressure being applied to break the resistance, resulting in sharp (hard) correction changes.
Car abruptly pulls to the passenger side and requires significant force to keep car centered on the road. The system then lets go and car overcorrects into incoming lane requiring quick reaction to prevent car from hitting oncoming vehicles. This issue occurs on nearly every use of the vehicle especially if driven more than 30 min. The design of this car is drive by wire and there is no mechanical link between steering wheel and rack and pinion. This problem seems unrelated to the avoidance system as it happens when it is both on and off. Honda dealership seems unconcerned with the issue even though there is a recall for that same issue for both the 2017 and 2018 model years. The issue was related to a magnet for a sensor within the rack.
Steering sticks when driving on the highway. When make small steering adjustments it has resistance, then suddenly becomes easy. This can cause oversteering when correcting.
Same problem others have reported. At highway speeds the steering will become hard to manage and if going into a curve very dangerous. When this happens have to pull over at next exit and shut car off. Dealership service department claims the VSA modulator needs replacing (at a cost of 1500$).
At highway speeds when it is warm and the vehicle has been driven for 20-30 minutes the steering becomes sticky. It is most noticeable at freeway speed when attempting minor corrections to maintain good lane position. The steering wheel resists minor effort to turn and then breaks loose causing an over correction, potentially as far as into another lane.
Electric Power Steering after driving on hot days becomes resistant to turning the wheel at higher speeds. Requires about 5lbs of force to the wheel and then it gives way and causes a more abrupt turn than driver is attempting.
At highway speeds the car has problems with the steering sticking, and when it releases it jerks into the other lane . This has happened several times almost causing a wreck. I have reported it to Honda in the past and the technician could not find anything, or so they said
When traveling at highway speeds the steering wheel “catches” at center and feels almost stuck in position. This causes for over correction and an unsafe driving experience
I am not an alarmist. I am a retired Porsche mechanic (42 years) so I have a decent grasp of how a vehicle should perform. The steering on my Civic is very notchy. When I am making a sweeping curve at highway speeds (especially to the right) and I try to straighten the steering wheel as the curve ends, it wants to stick to the right then breaks loose and often jerks the car to the left. It is even difficult to maintain the vehicle smoothly in the center of the lane when traveling straight due to this stickiness in the steering. This is not a one time occurrence. It happens very consistently and maybe worst in warm weather. I know this is a fairly common problem with the Civic as I see many people complaining about it on Civic forums on line. I thought it may be something Honda would be interested in recalling.
At high speeds, sometimes my steering wheel has a tendency to “catch” at the center line when I attempt to keep the car straight. To overcome this resistance, I have to apply extra pressure, which often leads to over-steering. This feels very dangerous, and I do not let anyone drive my car for fear that they will overcompensate and swerve into other lanes or oncoming traffic. There are over a hundred complains with this exact issue, and needs to be addressed.
Steering wheel has some extra resistance (sticking) when making small corrections at highway speeds, resulting in extra pressure being applied to break the resistance, resulting in sharp (hard) correction changes.
At highway speeds the steering on the vehicle stiffens and requires the driver to steer right or left to break the resistance on the steering wheel. Steering continues to stiffen and the wheel does not loosen to maintain straight driving conditions unless driver breaks resistance continuously while driving. The force needed to break the resistance on the steering wheel could cause an accident from the car steering left or right out of the lane. Honda does not acknowledge this issue but will charge thousands to diagnose and replace parts that may or may not fix the issue. The steering wheel resistance is a safety hazard due to it feeling stiff and locking in place requiring the driver to move the wheel in the opposite direction to loosen the steering to give the driver control while at speed.
Most noticeable when trying to stay straight in a lane on highway or interstate going 60-80 mph. When trying to make minor adjustments left or right, the steering wheel will stick, causing it to jerk more in the direction I’m trying to steer, which causes slight over steering and having to correct back the other direction. I have to keep a death grip on the steering wheel with both hands so as not to overcorrect when I try to slightly adjust to the left or right. It’s definitely a safety issue and has the potential to cause an accident.
The EPS Electronic Power Steering system is STICKING, while driving. It wants to hold the steering wheel, which is terrifying. When you muscle the steering wheel out of its “hold” it brings heightened risk of over-compensating and losing control of the vehicle. No dash indicator/fault lights turned on. I will be having the vehicle inspected at a local Honda dealer. My son confirms the same driving conditions as I have explained above, and he is a foreign car mechanic of 20+ years experience.
2016 Honda Civic LX with 47K miles. With engine warm and driving at highway speed, steering wheel gets stuck/sticky at the 12 oclock position and requires too much force to correct, or 'unlock' (it's jerky). Requires near constant correction. Feels unsafe. Numerous reports of what appear to be exactly the same problem are described in on-line forums such as carcomplaints.com or carproblemzoo.com - appears to be electronic power steering system problem.
There is no EPS indicator light lit but there is a "sticking" of the steering when driving at highway speeds. When the steering wheel is in the 12 o'clock position you can feel unusual tension while just lane controlling and then the tension will give when you apply greater than normal force required to stay in lanes during normal travel. It nearly is to the point of having to over-correct in order to release the tension created. There are numerous other accounts and owners in Honda online forums that have reported this issue and every report has been a result of and caused by the electronic power steering rack assembly. If this component goes or forces the driver to over-correct as a result of the sticking problem this can lead to an accident.
The steering on this car is electronic. It feels a lot different than other cars that I drive. The steering is stiff. When trying to make minor corrections, the steering doesn't want to move, therefore, more force is required to turn the steering wheel to make the correction. When the steering eventually releases, it results in an overcorrection situation. This overcorrection is a safety issue and could result in moving into the oncoming lane of traffic.
Steering issue with car drifting out of lane. Trying to recenter the vehicle in the lane there is resistance, and it requires an extra jerk to move the car back into the center of the lane. This happens repeatedly. This happens after about 30 minutes of driving. When driving on an interstate at high speed this creates a safety issue. Many others have reported a similar issue. It appears Honda is aware of this issue, and right now the fix is to replace the steering rack to correct a problem with a sensor when the car warms up.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel momentarily seized; requiring additional force to steer the vehicle. The contact indicated that the failure would occur when turning in either direction. The failure was intermittent. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

My 2016 Honda Civic is having issues with the steering. When driving the car at 50 mph or above, the steering wants to pull to the left and it feels sticky and hard to turn back to keep in the lane and you have to turn hard and feel you will over correct and run off road. The car has about 50,000 miles on it. This is a safety issue because it make me over correct when driving. No warning lights are on.
Steering wheel sticks when driving at highway speeds and requires some force to correct in lane. This causes over-correction and vehicle moves in a jerky motion. No lights are on and this is extremely dangerous
The steering wheel sticks in the center making it hard to make steering adjustments without overcorrecting and moving out of driving lanes. I am constantly veering from left to right when trying to steer car in a straight line. It is worse at higher speeds and very tiring to drive the car. When my wife informed the dealer, they said someone will get back to her. It has been 3 weeks. The car is so unsafe to drive especially highway speeds that we take our other car when possible. Took car to repair shop and they agreed with our concern A search on the internet shows a major concern with these cars about this steering issue
After approximately 20k miles, the steering began to "stick". When the issue occurs, it takes more force than usual to turn the wheel slightly, causing me to have to over-correct to center the car. The issue usual occurs during highway driving and after the outside temperature rises. For example, the problem appears to go away during the winter, but re-appear during spring and summer. I have brought the vehicle in for inspection to the original dealer who failed to reproduce the issue.
I drive a 2016 Honda Civic ex and the steering is sticky and jerky when driving. This doesn't seem very safe when driving especially at highway speeds when the steering sticks then jerks either to the left or right when trying to get the steering to unstick. There have been tons of reported problems of the same issue by other Honda Civic owners of the same generation car who most have said the electric power steering rack is the issue. I have brought the car to the dealer to figure out the problem and while they acknowledged that something wasn't right, told me that they don't know what's causing it and therefore won't bother replacing any parts to try and fix it. While the car was in getting looked at I was then told that there were no lights or codes that were shown even though something is clearly wrong. This steering issue has been going on for over a year and it has yet to be figured out. https://youtu.be/w5x_CaVHXmM- This is exactly what is happening.
The steering wheel sticks intermittently. About 50% of the time, when making minor inputs to maintain lane, the steering wheel will "resist" and require additional pressure. When additional pressure is applied the steering wheel suddenly "breaks free" and causes over-steering. This over-steering causes lots of swerving and occasionally causes me to leave my lane. I have nearly been in several head-on accidents. The issue does not occur every time I drive the vehicle but when it starts, it continues until I stop and turn the vehicle off. The issue happens at all speeds. There are no warning lights or indicators on the dash. The issue started a couple days after taking the vehicle home after purchasing. There are 25000 miles on the vehicle and the vehicle will be in the shop next week.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel failed to respond immediately however, abruptly the steering wheel responded causing the vehicle to veer into the other lane. The contact stated that the failure was ongoing. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after slowing down, the vehicle operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

My 2016 Honda Civic has the following problem. The steering "sticks" and is very sensitive to turning when it "catches". It is getting worse and is way worse at interstate speeds. It causes the vehicle to swerve sometimes when correcting and could make you overcorrect and lose traction and run off the road or into another lane of traffic very easily. It will be at a Honda Dealership within the week to be officially diagnosed but it is definitely a safety issue and it barely has 60,000 miles on it. NO warning lights are displayed.
Steering sticks. Takes additional force to push against the stiffness for just a minor adjustment. Wheels jerk towards that direction and you then have to steer in opposite direction to correct. But you are also pushing against that stiffness in the other direction, too. People must think I'm a drunk driver as the car jumps back and forth in the lane. Cannot smoothly adjust the wheel to keep the car in a straight line. It happens intermittently. Car starting doing this after 6 years and 48k miles. A search of Honda Civic car forums and on here shows others describing the same issue. For those who were under warranty, Honda replaced the power steering rack.
The steering "sticks" especially at high speeds which causes the car to swerve. It is a safety hazard as the steering is not smooth and it bumps the car towards other lanes. A mechanic said it could not be readily determined what the problem is and the dealer stated this is not covered by any warranty. No warning lights or check engine lights are on.
Steering wheel sticks causing driver to have to exert extra force to "snap" back to normal steering. Problem happens in both directions and is more noticeable on warmer days after driving for 30 or more minutes. There are forums on the internet with multiple persons reporting the same problem. I see there are 154 steering complaints on this site. Most of them are for the same issue. This problem can surprise a driver at times. It is very annoying and distracting. I am hoping it does not get worse than it already is. Please do something about this safety issue.
The Electronic Power Steering is failing and causing the vehicle to swerve, get stuck in one direction, and sway into other lanes almost striking other vehicles. The vehicle is a huge safety concern on the road. I Myself have had to roughly pull my steering before crashing into another vehicle. At times, the vehicle looses traction while actively driving because of the steering becoming stiff and stuck. The vehicle has been brought into Honda, they confirmed the power steering rack is failing and will continue to diminish over time thus causing the vehicle to crash. Multiple other Hondas have been brought in for the same issue according to Honda and stated the steering rack part has no estimated time when the part would be in the shop. I was told it could take anywhere from a week to months before Honda receives the necessary part. There are no warning lights appearing but Honda did confirm the steering rack is failing more and more and there’s nothing they can do for it yet. I’m not sure how people are supposed to drive a car that is bound to crash into someone? The part itself is no where to be found easily, so do Honda owners pray they do not crash?
The 10th gen Honda civics are having steering problems related to eps. The steering will become stuck while driving, especially at speeds higher than 45 mph. The steering becomes stiff and you must pull the wheel hard to gain control back and then the wheel goes right back to being stiff. It is difficult to keep the vehicle straight and to turn the vehicle. There are no warning lights coming on. Multiple forums of owners having similar issues and Honda dealerships not knowing what the problem is or how to fix it. The car veers off into other lanes with traffic. This first began to happen about 3 months ago. Never had any issues with steering prior to this case.
While driving down the highway, and attempting to make minor steering adjustments, the steering wheel constantly binds. An unnatural breakout force is required to overcome this perilous situation. The result is a continual overcorrection of the vehicles trajectory within the driving lane (Similar to a drunk driver). My vehicle has over 60k miles. The problem has been getting progressively worse over the last year. A google search reveals this issue is not an isolated one. It appears there may be a defect with the steering rack of these vehicles.
The car steering wheel stick and is jerky when driving. There are multiple sites with forum and videos of people experiencing the same issue.
Steering would "catch" at the centerline when attempting to steer straight. Extra force needed to overcome resistance which causes oversteering and vehicle veered into next lane. This issue has become progressively more dangerous until now the vehicle is unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel had experienced minute levels of stiffness and stickiness when attempting to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Around 40,000 miles, we first noticed a sort of bump or detent when trying to steer straight ahead at highway speeds. The car will drift to the right or left. When the driver attempts to steer back into the lane, resistance is felt at Top-Dead-Center, the demarc between left and right. To overcome the resistance, extra force must be used and that causes an oversteer condition in the opposite direction. I reported this problem to the dealership at 46976 miles, which was within the extended warranty coverage. They failed to report it to the warranty company or American Honda. I reported the issue again at mileage 59277, after it became much worse and much more dangerous. So far, my dealership has refused to cover the problem under manufacturer's warranty or extended warranty. Over the past year, I've driven this car less than 1000 miles because I am afraid it will get me killed.
Steering gets "notchy" and acts out of sync. when at highway speeds, when trying to move left or right the steering does not respond correctly. You end up overcompensating for slight movements making it dangerous as you may veer too far. Seems to happen after car is warm or temps outside are high. Its also intermittent so hard to get dealership to diagnose. Have read this is an eps problem with steering rack. Should definitely be a safety recall as this is how we "aim" these 2 ton metal machines. Took to a local Honda dealership they said nothing is wrong. I still have the problem! This is a serious defect. Please issue a safety recall.
The steering wheel on the 2016 Honda Civic tends to stick when the car in going in a straightforward motion at highway speeds. When a bend or curve in the road approaches, the steering wheel must be gently forced out of its central stuck position, causing a jerk in the movement of the vehicle. I have gotten used to this issue and have been able to work through it, but fear the safety of my family as passengers or if they ever need to drive my vehicle. The jerking motion could potentially cause the car to jump out of lane. This is generally always been an issue with my vehicle, but I didn't fully understand how potentially dangerous it is until now.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while reversing, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. In addition, the steering wheel was pulling to the right or left while the vehicle was driven straight. The steering wheel seized causing the contact to use extreme force while steering the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Mileage: 32,000
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH while remaining in a straight line, the contact noticed that the steering had seized, caused the contact to manually put more pressure to steer the vehicle in a straight line to avoid the vehicle going into the other lane. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure as a steering rack failure that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,532.

I purchased a 2016 honda Civic brand new in 2016. This car has had multiple issues including AC problems and more recently a problem that causes the steering wheel to be sticking to a position after driving for a long distance (apparently worse on hot weather). I have brought this car multiple times to the dealership. Last year I was informed the issue was caused by something regarding the brake calipers, which were then replaced under warranty. As I'm working from home I have barely driven long distances until last month when I drove longer. Then I noticed the steering issue persists. I brought the car back to the Honda dealership (Serramonte Honda) and was then informed the issue NOW was due to a bad battery (my car never had battery issues) and the car also needed to do an alignment. I told Darren that it did not make any sense because if the issue was battery I would see it as soon as I start driving, and not after driving for awhile. Still, I said that I would take care of the 2 things and then check again. So I did, i installed a new battery (even after testing my battery with my multimeter at home and seeing it was ok) and did the alignment. I spent a little over $300 and took the car for a long drive and indeed the issue persisted. Then I drove right back to the dealership and talked with a service advisor again showing him the video of my car with the steering wheel stuck and changing lanes until I would run out of the road unless I intervene (I have it on video). I was hoping to get a technician to get into the car and witness first hand. That was not possible. So after showing the video to the service advisor I left the car to be tested again. A day later I received the call saying they can not reproduce the problem. I had called Honda, and my case number is 12390725. I've seen multiple cases of people describing the exact same issue, fo all the cases the fix has been replacing the power steering rack assembly ( part # 53560-TBA-A01)
At highway speeds, the steering "sticks" when attempting minor steering adjustments. There is a resistance in the steering wheel that causes additional pressure to be applied to the direction of the turn. When the steering "unsticks" is causes an overcorrection. Both right and left directions are affected.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the power steering started to fail. The steering wheel started to drift to the left or right and the steering wheel seized in that direction. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The power steering function returned; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

After driving the car for 30-45 minutes, the steering wheel begins to "stick" and "jerk." I've noticed this issue in the last month.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the steering wheel was making abnormal clicking sounds. Additionally, the steering wheel was stiff, and the vehicle was pull to the left while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact was referred to an authorized dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was still awaiting the diagnostic report. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

As has been noted by numerous complaints, the steering "sticks" requiring extra effort to control the vehicle. At times, and at least in my experience, it happens most often, as it did today, when entering, exiting or in a broad, sweeping curve to either the left or right. This isn't to say it doesn't also happen in other circumstances, but in the situation mentioned it happens most often. At times, it has been very difficult to correct the vehicle trajectory so as to prevent either running off the road in the direction of the curve or straying into another lane due to the corrective action needed. Empirical evidence seems to suggest it occurs more frequently at higher ambient temperatures. A dealer has inspected the vehicle, but the result was inconclusive. There are no warning indicators or messages of any kind when this occurs. Please do not ignore this problem. It is potentially very dangerous and an investigation needs to be undertaken and hopefully recall issued to resolve it.
When the car begins to drift and attempting to correct, the steering wheel "sticks" (resists). It doesn't lock up or not turn at all, but "sticks" until I apply a bit more pressure, after which it suddenly releases, corrects (usually over steers). This does not cause issues with any turning once the steering wheel is unstuck. This happens in both directions. End result is I begin drifting slightly back and forth down the highway repeatedly (due to the over steer when the steering wheel releases), all the while fighting with a steering wheel. I was able to get this to recreate for the dealer. They made adjustments to the electronic steering module which helped slightly, but this issue still exists. I was told I have to replace the power steering rack.
The steering wheel “catches” increasingly often. When minor course corrections are attempted while driving straight or on moderate curves, there is resistance to the correction until I apply enough force to break the resistance, causing the car to jerk to one side. The same thing happens when course-correcting to the other side. It is a repeated process of making small swerves from one side of the lane to the other. It is getting increasingly worse and poses a safety issue. The problem has been reproduced by an independent dealer and the EPS is available for inspection. There are no warning lamps or messages that appeared prior to the failure.
After driving for over 20-30 minutes at highway speeds, the steering wheel sticks and causes me to have to jerk the wheel. Honda failed to produce vehicles that are meant to be safe on the highway and on several occasions this flaw has caused me to nearly drive into another vehicles lane because the steering wheel was stuck in one position. This issue was not addressed by Honda in the past with any recall after several other owners of the same make and model have complained of very similar experiences happening to their car. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and they offered little insight to the issue and only assumed of what could be the issue that needs to be repaired but they were not completely certain. This vehicle has not been inspected by any police or insurance representatives. No lamps or messages appear when this issue occurs the issue continues mostly at highway speeds or when the vehicle has been driven for 20-30 minutes.
This car has steering that I describe as stiff and jerky. Mostly noticed at speeds above 50mph. I’ve only owned the car for 2wks but I would say 60% of the time I’m driving, it’s like this. Very hard to maintain lane and easy to over correct. When turning sharper corners, must slow car way down because sometimes steering will stick and stay in the turn versus the steering wheel straightening up. Very scary and dangerous!
At speeds above 45mph the car tracks left or right. When correcting, the steering wheel becomes stiff and has to be forced , almost snapping back into position causing the driver to over compensate.
My steering feels “sticky” at times. This seems to happen mostly when I’m going straight or on a long sweeping curve and I attempt to make minor steering adjustments. The wheel will slightly “stick” in response to those small inputs and then break loose resulting in over steering. I have not yet lost control of the vehicle due to this problem but it is starting to feel sketchy and dangerous. I do not notice this issue when driving at slow speeds.
Steering column sticks at all speeds requiring extra force to pull the wheel free. This causes the car to over steer in the opposite direction.
Steering gets stiff and requires extreme force to make minor corrections. This causes over correction. I have had it to the dealer in the past and since they could not reproduce the problem they just dismissed me. When it began it was only at highway speeds. It is now happening as low as 45 MPH. This has happened multiple times since I purchased the car new in 2016.
Steering wheel locked while driving. Has happened at different speeds including 70 MPH on Interstate 75 in Southern Florida. Took vehicle to dealer which was able to recreate the problem and stated a replacement of the steering rack system ($3800) was required. Opened a case with Honda since the vehicle (2016 model year) fell outside of the recall for 2017-2018 Civics for a similar steering problem.
My car’s steering has a problem since 3+ years. The steering veers on its own and moves to the other lane even when I am going straight. I have to bring it back to lane. I am driving since 20+ years and can simply say that is dangerous. At first I thought it was wheel alignment issue and took them to dealership. I had spent some money for that repair, but to my surprise the problem was still there the moment I drove out of the dealership after that repair. I was kind of shocked and upset that the problem still remained. I took them to local mechanics couple of times and did the wheel alignment but the problem still remained. I saw in the news about the Honda recall for the steering issue and when I checked if my car was in the recall list and again to my shock it is not there. This is big cover up for reputation but I think 2016 civic model is in that list of recall. Please look into this matter and take the necessary steps.
TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH THE VEHICLE HEADING IN A FAIRLY STRAIGHT TRAJECTORY, ATTEMPTS TO ADJUST THE STEERING SLIGHTLY IN EITHER DIRECTION (TO CORRECT FOR ANY DRIFTING) ARE MET WITH RESISTANCE IN THE FORM OF THE STEERING "STICKING" TO ITS' CURRENT POSITION. ABNORMAL EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO "UNSTICK" THE STEERING, AT WHICH POINT THERE IS A JERKING RESULT THAT CAUSES AN OVERSTEER IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ATTEMPTED CORRECTION.
Mileage: 42,000
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (50 MPH OR MORE), THE CAR STRUGGLES TO STAY STRAIGHT. THIS RESULTS IN HAVING TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH FEELS VERY TIGHT, ALMOST AS IF IT'S STUCK. THIS REQUIRES USING MORE FORCE WHICH CAN LEAD TO AN OVERCORRECTION AS THE WHEEL LOOSENS UP.
Mileage: 43,300
STEERING STICKS AT 40 PLUS MPH. OVERCOMPENSATION IS SOMETIMES REQUIRED AND MAKES IT HARD TO STERER STRAIGHT. I'VE NOTICED THAT 2017 AND NEWER HONDA CIVICES ARE BEING RECALLED BUT NOT THE 2016'S. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED . LOTS OF COMPLAINMTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

I BOUGHT MY CIVIC NEW ON 2016. THE CAR STARTS TO HAVE STEERING BECOME JERKY AND TENDS TO STICK IN THE CENTER POSITION AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MORE THAN 20 MINUTES ON 03/15/2020. WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE CAR DRIFTS TO THE LEFT SIDE AND I HAVE TO USE A EXTRA FORCE TO PULL IT OUT OF THAT STICKING POINT BACK TO THE CENTER STEERING . I DID RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND FOUND 107 COMPLAINTS ON HONDA CIVIC 2016 EPS JERKY PROBLEMS. I ALSO FOUND HONDA RECALL 18V663000 ( POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS ) ON CIVIC AND CRV 2017-2018 BUT NOT INCLUDED 2016 WHILE CIVIC 2016-2018 USE SAME EPS ASSEMBLY PART NO.53650-TBA-A01 THAT FIX THE EPS FAILS. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO HONDA DEALER TO DIAGNOSTICS THE PROBLEM ON 05/2020 WAS 52K MILES BUT THEY CAN'T CONFIRMED IT BECAUSE IT APPEARS AFTER AT LEAST 20MIN DRIVES SO THEY DON'T WANT TO SPEND THAT MUCH TIME TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAY! I NOTICED THE PROBLEM INTERMITTENTLY RELATIVE TO THE WEATHER TEMPERATURES AND THE PROBLEM APPEARS FEW MONTH AFTER I BROUGHT MY CAR TO DEALER FOR HONDA RECALL VSA AND PARKING BRAKE SOFTWARE UPDATED. IT'S CHALLENGING TO DRIVE A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN THE PROBLEM APPEARS . TODAY 04/28/2021 MY CAR HAS 57K MILES AND STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEM BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY OVER $2500 TO REPLACE THE EPS ASSEMBLY DUE TO OUT OF MANUFACTURE WARRANTY. I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED TO OWN A CAR HAS LESS THAN 60K MILES WITH MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES ON EPS UNPLEASURE TO DRIVE.

STEERING IS VERY UNCONTROLLABLE AT 40 PLUS MPH. OVERCOMPENSATION IS REQUIRED AND MAKES IT HARD TO STEER CAR. APPEARS THAT 2017 AND NEWER HONDA CIVICS ARE BEING RECALLED BUT NOT 2016'S. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, TONS OF COMPLAINTS ON 2016.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER DRIVING A LONG DISTANCE (WHEN ENGINE IS HOT), POWER STEERING STICKS, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE STRAIGHT AND STAY WITHIN THE LANE. SMOOTH STEERING IS NOT POSSIBLE. MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR WHEN AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ARE HIGH, AND NOT LIKELY TO OCCUR WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS.
Mileage: 50,000
THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE STEERING SYSTEM SEEMS TO HAVE A SLIGHT 'STICKING' POINT THAT REQUIRES A SLIGHT, ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO CORRECT. TYPE OF ROAD SURFACE (ASPHALT, CONCRETE, ETC.) SEEMS TO HAVE SOME AFFECT ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS SOMEWHAT DISCONCERTING TO HAVE THIS OCCUR WHILE DRIVING...NOT A GOOD FEELING!!!

STEERING WHEEL STICKS OR CATCHES WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 40 MPH. STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT MOVE WITHOUT EXTRA FORCE FROM DRIVER. DRIVER HAS TO YANK ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. STEERING IS NOT FLUID AS IT SHOULD BE AND CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO OVERCORRECT IF ISSUE IS NOT FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN.

STEERING STICKS WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES CAUSES DRIVER TO OVERCORRECT. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD LEAD TO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO MANY CIVIC OWNERS AND FOR SOME REASON ISN'T BEING RECALLED. HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MONTHS, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN BOTH DIRECTION, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO RETURN TO CENTER, WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO NORM REEVES HONDA SUPERSTORE PORT CHARLOTTE (1252 TAMIAMI TRAIL, PORT CHARLOTTE, FL 33953) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A STICKY STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING STICKS WHEN MAKING MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO STAY IN LANE, IN OTHER WORDS, THE STEERING STICKS HARD AND THE VEHICLE STAYS IN THE TURN. BECAUSE THE STEERING CAN'T RETURN TO CENTER WITHOUT ADDITIONAL OPPOSITE FORCE, BREAKING THE STEERING FREE OFTEN CAUSES AN OVERCORRECT. BOTH SCENARIOS (STUCK IN THE TURN, AND OVERCORRECTING) REPRESENT A SERIOUS HAZARD TO DRIVERS AND ROAD USERS. THESE ARE NOT ROAD CROWN OR ALIGNMENT ISSUES: THESE ARE PHYSICALLY STUCK STEERING ISSUES RELATED TO HONDA EPS RACK 53650-TBC-A01/02. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THERE ARE OVER 115 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE ON THE NHTSA DATABASE FOR THE 2016 CIVIC ALONE, THAT'S WITHOUT THE THOUSANDS THAT ALMOST CERTAINLY GO UNREPORTED.
Mileage: 87,000
AFTER BEING ON THE ROAD FOR 30-40 MINUTES THE STEERING BECOMES JERKY AND STICKY. FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS TRYING TO OVER CORRECT WHEN IT SHOULDN'T. I HAVE MY CAR IN THE DEALER SINCE LAST WEEK WHERE THE SERVICE GUYS DROVE MY CAR AND AND FELT THE PROBLEM, THEY SUBMITTED A CLAIM UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND NOW THE WARRANTY GUY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AND DENIED MY CLAIM. THIS IS REALLY UNPROFESSIONAL ON HONDA'S PART FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE THAT WE ARE ALL HAVING. I SWEAR I USED TO LOVE DRIVING MY CAR, NOW I'M SO SCARED TO DRIVE IT THAT I CAN'T ENJOY IT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS BECAUSE IT IS REALLY UNSAFE. I THINK THEY WANT US TO CRASH OUR CARS RATHER FIXING A SIMPLE ISSUE AND CHANGE THE EPS RACK AND PINION.

STEERING STICKS AFTER DRIVING FOR 20-30MINS. USUALLY WHEELS FORWARD/STRAIGHT. TENDS TO OCCUR MORE OFTEN ON HIGHWAYS, LESS OFTEN ON CURVY ROADS. WHEN MAKING SLIGHT ADJUSTMENTS TO MAINTAIN LANE POSITION, IT TAKES AN UNUSUAL AND UNCOMFORTABLE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO GET IT OUT OF ITS STUCK POSITION. ONCE IT BREAKS FREE, IT IS A SLIGHT OVER ADJUSTMENT. DOES NOT SEEM TO STICK WHILE IN TURNS. I HAVE REPLACED FACTORY TIRES WITH ANOTHER BRAND AND PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT, STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS NO AFTERMARKET PARTS. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO COME AND GO, AND I HAVE NOT NOTICED A SPECIFIC PATTERN.
Mileage: 65,000
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN CHANGING LANES VERY DANGEROUS ALSO BECAUSE I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THE COST WAS NOT $3,000 OR MORE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND JERKY AND DID NOT OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER RUSSELL HONDA LOCATED AT 6100 LANDERS RD, NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR 72117 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

OUR CIVIC'S STEERING BECAME VERY 'STICKY' AROUND 6 MONTHS AGO AND THE PROBLEM DEVELOPS AT SPEED. THE STEERING GETS JERKY AND MOMENTARILY GETS LOCKED IN A POSITION THAT WE NEED TO FIGHT AGAINST. WE HAD A SERVICE SCHEDULED AT HONDA AND ASKED THEM TO INSPECT THE ISSUE AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. THEY ARE DEFLECTING AND ARE SUGGESTING IT COULD BE CAUSED BY US RUNNING OVER SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE STEERING SETUP. THERE IS NO ALIGNMENT ISSUE AND THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 16K MILES IN 4.5 YEARS (IT'S OUR SECOND CAR).
Mileage: 15,400
THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN OVER 40MPH. THE CAR PULLS TO ONE SIDE AND HAPPENS OVER 40MPH. THE CAR WILL NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS
Mileage: 59,000
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS SO WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE SMALL ADJUSTMENTS TO KEEP THE CAR CENTERED WITHIN YOUR LANE YOU END UP OVER CORRECTING. WHEN DRIVING LONG DISTANCES IT SEEMS TO GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT I MEED TO SPEND $3800 FOR A NEW STEERING RACK BUT CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOR OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS MISTAKE.
Mileage: 40,000
THE STEERING IS STICKY. WHEN I TRY TO MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO DIRECTION, IT STICKS. WHEN IT FINALLY LET'S GO, THE CAR OVERCORRECTS CAUSING DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.
AT APPROX 36K MILES, THE VEHICLE BEGAN EXHIBITING A BEHAVIOR WHERE, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE STEERING STICKS WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. TO MAKE A MINOR STEERING ADJUSTMENT, THE AMOUNT OF FORCE REQUIRED TO INITIATE A STEERING CHANGE WOULD CAUSE STEERING TO BECOME UNSTUCK AND THEN OVER STEER. MINOR STEERING ADJUSTMENTS ARE NOT POSSIBLE AND THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND MAINTAIN WITHIN THE DRIVING LANE. THIS ISSUE INITIALLY WOULD OCCUR RANDOMLY BUT HAS PROGRESSED AND IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN.
Mileage: 36,000
STEARING WHEEL IS STICKING AFTER IT IS HELD IN ONE POSITION. THE STICKING CAN BE NOTICED AT ALL SPEEDS EVEN WHEN STOPPED. WHEN THESTEARING STICKS IT CAUSES THE DRIVER TO OVER COMPENSATE WHEN TRYING TO MAKE SMALL ADJUSTMENTS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
Mileage: 30,000
UPON STARTING VEHICLE, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. LIGHTS INDICATED BRAKE SYSTEM ISSUE, POWER STEERING ISSUE, HILL START ASSIST ISSUE, ABS SYSTEM ISSUE. POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

DURING A RECENT ROAD TRIP WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. DURING THIS TIME, THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. THIS CAR HAS LANE KEEP ASSIST AND OTHER SAFETY MECHANISMS, BUT THOSE WERE TURNED OFF. HOWEVER, IT IS AS IF IT WAS TRYING TO STEER FOR ME, BUT IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. FOR EXAMPLE DURING A TURN, IT WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEEL - IT WOULDN'T CLICK, BUT IT WOULD OFFER STRONG RESISTANCE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS JUST STOPPING WORKING IN ONE DIRECTION? IN GENERAL IT BECOMES OVERLY DIFFICULT TO STEER AS IF IT IS "FIGHTING" AGAINST THE DRIVER. THE STEERING BECOMES "STICKY" PARTICULARLY ON TURNS. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS IN DIFFERENT CAR FORUMS AND IT IS A COMMON COMPLAINT. IT IS GENERALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT IS INTERMITTENT, AND IT IS USUALLY AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A WHILE. BECAUSE IT IS MAKING THE CAR DIFFICULT TO STAY IN THE PROPER LANE THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 44K MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. DURING A RECENT INSPECTION FOR THIS PROBLEM AT THE DEALER THEY FOUND NOTHING OBVIOUS BUT WE COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. SOME PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED REPLACING THE POWER STEERING RACK HAS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS IT IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION WHEN IT OCCURS.
Mileage: 42,000
OVER 40 MPH AND ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY JERKY. A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO JERK IN THE HANDS RIGHT OR LEFT DEPENDING ON WHICH WAY IT IS BEING TURNED. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS STUCK AND BREAKING LOOSE.
WHEN I STEER ON THE HIGHWAY GOING OVER 40 MPH THE CARS STEERING WHEEL WOULD FEEL STUCK AND WHEN I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE IT JERKS THE WHOLE CAR.
THERE'S A "CATCH" IN THE STEERING. WHILE DRIVING, IF SLIGHT TURN, CAN FEEL A CATCH AND SLIGHT "TICK" NOT VERY LOUD.
Mileage: 99,000
WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS 40MPH+ THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS STUCK. MAKING MINOR ADJUSTMENTS WHEN THE WHEEL IS CENTERED WILL HAVE A RESISTANCE TO THEM AND SOMETIMES MAKES A CLICKING SOUND LIKE THE STEERING IS CATCHING ON SOMETHING.
Mileage: 55,000
AT SPEEDS OVER ABOUT 45MPH THE STEERING STICKS BRIEFLY AND CORRECTION CAUSES A SUDDEN JERK IN THE NEEDED DIRECTION. THIS IS CONSTANT AND ALWAYS OCCURS. IT SEEMS TO HAVE BECOME WORSE WITH TIME AND IS ANNOYING AND DISCONCERTING, ESPECIALLY TO PASSENGERS AND ANYONE WHO DRIVES THE CAR RARELY OR HAS NOT DRIVEN THE CAR BEFORE.
Mileage: 20,000
LIKE SO MANY OTHERS, MY 2016 CIVIC HAS THE STICKY STEERING PROBLEM. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL "STICKS" AND DOES NOT ALLOW SMALL STEERING ADJUSTMENTS. TRYING TO MOVE THE CAR A LITTLE LEFT OR RIGHT, TO CHANGE LANES FOR EXAMPLE, IS DANGEROUS -- APPLYING ENOUGH PRESSURE TO GET THE WHEEL TO MOVE MAKES THE CAR JERK. I SEE STORIES IN FORUMS ABOUT THIS GETTING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SEEMS UNFAIR I HAVE TO PAY $3K TO FIX A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MY CAR HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT.
Mileage: 40,000
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL CEASED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVER STEER. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOLLER HONDA DEALER LOCATED AT 2211 N SEMORAN BLVD, ORLANDO, FL 32807, WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WOULD BE CONTACTED WITH THE RESULT OF THE TEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V663000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,239.
Mileage: 32,239
WHEN CAR IS DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND IT'S HOT OUT THE STEERING BEGINS TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND GETS STUCK AND NEEDS TO BE RECENTERED OFTEN CAUSING AN OVER CORRECTION AND JERK TO THE OTHER SIDE. THIS IS CONSTANT. DOES NOT OCCUR AS MUCH AT LOWER SPEEDS BUT ALWAYS AT OVER 50 MPH.
Mileage: 63
I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START BEING STICKY OR KNOTCHY. THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WORKED FINE BUT FOR SUBTLE MOVEMENTS YOU FEEL RESISTANCE. THE RESISTANCE MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CHANGE LANES, AS IT FEELS LIKE A FORCE IS ACTING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND IT TAKES MORE STRENGTH THEN NECESSARY TO MAKE SUBTLE MOVEMENTS. THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. DOES NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY OPINION I HAVE READ FORUMS WHERE DEALERS HAVE COVERED THIS ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY, SO IT SHOULD BE A KNOWN ISSUE .
Mileage: 97,000
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH WAY SPEEDS, THE CAR'S STEERING FEELS STIFF WHEN ADJUSTING TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. IT DOESN'T PULL AS IF THE ALIGNMENT IS OFF. THE STEERING FEELS STUCK WHEN I AM TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT AND I HAVE TO OVER COMPENSATE WHICH MAKES THE CAR JERK. I HAVE CHECKED ON CIVIC FORUMS AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM MY MODEL CIVIC. MANY OTHERS HAVE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE POWER STEERING RACK.. HONDA HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR 2017 AND ABOVE MAKE CIVICS BUT MY 2016 IS NOT COVERED.
Mileage: 30,000
WHEN DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE STEERING BECOMES STICKY AND FEELS AS IF THERE ARE NOTCHES OR CLICKS THAT THE STEERING GETS TO STUCK IN. WHEN MOVING THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT TO "UNSTICK" THE STEERING, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S OVER CORRECTING. THE STEERING IS NOT SMOOTH AND IT IS HARD TO KEEP THE CAR MOVING IN A STEADY STRAIGHT LINE. THIS HAPPENS MORE NOTICEABLY IN WARMER WEATHER, LATER IN THE DAY AND ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OVER 5 MPH. THE TRANSMISSION IS MANUAL AND HAPPENS IN ANY GEAR OVER 45-50 MPH.
Mileage: 26,500
THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN INITIALLY MAKING MINOR TURNS OR ADJUSTMENTS WHILE DRIVING CAUSING JERKING MOVEMENTS WHICH MAGNIFIES AT HIGHER SPEEDS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. THIS CAN BE FELT AT ALL SPEEDS INCLUDING WHILE STILL.
Mileage: 56,000
AFTER ABOUT 30-40MIN OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, USUALLY HIGHER SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL GETS STICKY AND STIFF AT TIMES. FEEL REALLY DANGEROUS WHEN CHANGING LANES AND OR MAKING SLIGHT CORRECTIONS IN MOVEMENT. CURRENTLY MY VEHICLE HAS 16K MILES ON IT.
Mileage: 16,000
THE STABILITY BRAKING SYSTEM SUDDENLY FAIL. PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT WORK. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ARE ON. THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY HAD ALREADY FIXED THE RECALL BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.
Mileage: 29,800
STEERING STARTS TO STICK ABOVE SPEEDS OF 45 MPH. WHEN TRYING TO CORRECT FROM CENTER WITHIN THE LANE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO STICK AND THEN JUMPS AND OVER-CORRECTS. I THEN HAVE TO COMPENSATE AND SHIFT THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE AND IT STICKS AND JUMPS AGAIN. IT MAKES THE CAR HARDER TO CONTROL/UNSTABLE AND YOU FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS BOPPING WITHIN THE LANE FROM THE MANY ADJUSTMENTS REQUIRED TO CENTER THE CAR WITHIN THE LANE. I DON'T HAVE CONFIDENCE IN IT'S SAFETY ANY LONGER.
Mileage: 56,500
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED (60 - 70 MPH) MY STEERING BEGAN TO "STICK". IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAKE THE NORMAL SMALL STEERING ADJUSTMENTS TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT THAT ARE NEEDED ON THE HIGHWAY TO GO STRAIGHT AND STAY IN YOUR LANE. THE STICKING REQUIRED ME TO USE MORE FORCE, WHICH MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT TO STAY IN THE LANE AND MORE LIKELY TO ACCIDENTALLY HIT SOMEONE. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON 4 OCCASIONS. IT HAPPENS ON HOT DAYS (85 - 90 F DEGREES) AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING. ONCE IT STARTS, IT CONTINUES AS LONG AS THE DRIVING CONTINUES.
Mileage: 40,000
THE STEERING FEELS "STICKY". MOST NOTABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT I SUSPECT IT IS OCCURRING OTHERWISE, JUST NOT AS NOTICEABLE WHEN YOU HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL COMPLETELY VS JUST STAYING IN LANE. WHEN THIS OCCURS, IT IS A CONSTANT WRESTLING MATCH TO KEEP THE CAR GOING IN THE DIRECTION YOU'D LIKE. WHAT WOULD TYPICALLY BE A GRADUAL AND EASY CONSTANT COURSE CORRECTION IS TRANSFORMED INTO A STRUGGLE TO GET THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF THE STUCK (MIGHT BE THE WRONG WORD, BUT IT'S EASY MOVEMENT IS GREATLY HINDERED) POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN AN OVER-CORRECTION BECAUSE ONCE YOU OVERCOME THE "STUCK" THE WHEEL IS JERKED FURTHER THAN INTENDED. THE STEERING WHEEL STICKING CAUSES THE CAR TO CAREEN ALL OVER THE LANE AND ROAD.
I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGINS TO DRIFT EVER SO SLIGHTLY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WHEN I GO TO CORRECT, THE STEERING WHEEL RESISTS. IT DOESN'T FREEZE BUT IT SORT OF "STICKS" UNTIL I APPLY A BIT MORE PRESSURE, AFTER WHICH IT SUDDENLY RELEASES, CORRECTS, AND ACTS COMPLETELY NORMAL. MOMENTS LATER HOWEVER, IT DRIFTS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND I AM FORCED TO REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. END RESULT IS I BEGIN DRIFTING SLIGHTLY BACK AND FORTH DOWN THE HIGHWAY REPEATEDLY, ALL THE WHILE FIGHTING WITH A STEERING WHEEL THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO LET GO. I HAVE BEEN READING MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS BEING A RECALL ON THE CAR IN THE 2017 / 2018 MODEL YEAR. WHY NOT IN 2016?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRAMAN HONDA OF PALM BEACH LOCATED AT 6200 LAKE WORTH RD, GREEN ACRES, FL 33463, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING RACK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,217.

WHEN DRIVING ON A WARM DAY ON THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING BECOMES VERY NOTCHY WHEN GOING STRAIGHT. WHEN DRIVING, THERE IS CONSTANT MINOR ADJUSTMENTS NEEDED TO BE MADE TO GO STRAIGHT, HOWEVER, EACH TIME I TRY TO MAKE THESE ADJUSTMENTS, THE STEERING WHEEL IS STUCK SO I AM SLIGHTLY DRIFTING LEFT OR RIGHT. TO REALIGN MYSELF, I HAVE TO JAR THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT TO GET IT OUT OF THIS STUCK POSITION WHICH CAUSES ME TO GO TOO FAR AND TOWARDS OTHER LANES. ESSENTIALLY I AM DRIVING ZIG ZAG THE ENTIRE TIME TRYING TO STAY IN A LANE. 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX STEERING WHEEL STICKY , STIFF & JERKY. MY VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE LANE KEEPING ASSIST. THE POWER STEERING WORKS FINE FOR LARGE MOVEMENTS BUT FOR SUBTLE MOVEMENTS, IT WOULD CAUSE RESISTANCE AND JERK WHEN YOU ADD MORE FORCE TO TURN. THIS ISSUE DOES NOT MATTER WITH VEHICLE SPEED, STOPPED OR MOVING PRODUCES THE SAME RESULT AND ONLY REQUIRES THE ENGINE TO BE RUNNING. THIS ISSUE CAUSES JERKY LANE POSITION AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS OVER CORRECTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE RESISTANCE MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CHANGE LANES, AS IT FEELS LIKE A FORCE IS ACTING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND IT TAKES MORE TO MAKE SUBTLE MOVEMENTS. PLEASE LOOK AT A VIDEO I FOUND FROM A FELLOW CIVIC OWNER. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM I AM TRYING TO DESCRIBE. FIND THE VIDEO AT HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/W5X_CAVHXMM. THE INDIVIDUAL WHO MADE THE VIDEO WAS ABLE TO GET WARRANTED WORK DONE AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK. *TR

THE STEERING IS STICKING. WHEN DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE MINISCULE ROAD ADJUSTMENTS, THE STEERING STICKS AND TO CORRECT, THE WHEEL MAKES A JERK WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ALL OF THE TIME, WHICH INCLUDES ANY SPEED. THIS STICKING OF THE WHEEL PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A BIT OVER A YEAR. I TOOK IT TO HONDA ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO AND THEY CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS AND NOW I AM HEARING TICKING NOISES WHEN MAKING NORMAL ROAD ADJUSTMENTS AS WELL AS TURNING. AGAIN, I AM VERY FRIGHTENED FOR MY SAFETY. AS DOCUMENTATION FROM MANY 2016 HONDA CIVIC OWNERS IS EASILY AVAILABLE THROUGH VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS, I AM SUSPECTING THIS TO BE A MAJOR ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT HONDA NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RESOLVING. *TR
STEERING BECOMES JERKY AND TENDS TO STICK AFTER DRIVING AROUND FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES. RATHER THAN A SMOOTH TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL IT REQUIRES A BIT EXTRA FORCE TO FREE UP THE STEER WHEEL TO MAKE EVEN MINOR ADJUSTMENTS. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO MAKE A MINOR ADJUSTMENT TO STAY IN MY LANE REQUIRES A BIT OF EXTRA FORCE TO FREE UP THE "STUCK" STEERING WHEEL BEFORE I MAKE THE MINOR ADJUSTMENT, BUT TO MAKE THE MINOR ADJUSTMENT THE EXTRA FORCE REQUIRED TO FREE UP THE STUCK STEERING WHEEL SOMETIMES CAUSES A MAJOR ADJUSTMENT LIKE DRIFTING INTO ANOTHER LANE. I'VE DETERMINED THAT THIS NORMALLY OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 20-30 MINUTES. HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS JUST DRIVING AROUND TOWN. PURCHASED CAR NOV 2019 THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING SHORTLY AFTER I GOT THE CAR I REALIZED IT WHILE TRAVELING FROM TEXAS TO ARKANSAS.HAD AN ALIGNMENT BOUGHT NEW TIRES THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. STILL DID HELP. *TR

AS DESCRIBED BY MANY OTHER LISTED COMPLAINTS, MY CAR'S STEERING STICKS OCCASIONALLY WHILE OPERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN IT IS STUCK IT REQUIRES EXTRA EFFORT TO DO MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT HEADING. THE EXTRA EFFORTS CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK LEFT AND RIGHT WHEN MAKING MINOR STEERING CORRECTIONS. THIS ISSUE STARTS AFTER THE CAR IS WARMED UP AND DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 10-20 MINUTES. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2016 AND I'VE COMPLAINED A FEW TIMES DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIPS BUT ALWAYS RECEIVE THE RESPONSE THAT THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE ISSUE. BY THE AMOUNT OF FILED COMPLAINTS AND LISTED COMMENTS ONLINE IT OBVIOUSLY IS AN ISSUE. WE LOVE OUR HONDA CIVIC BUT THIS PROBLEM AND THE AMOUNT OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE ALONE HAS CONVINCED ME TO NEVER BUY A CIVIC AGAIN. WE JUST RETURNED FROM A ROAD TRIP OF OVER 3100 MILES AND IT NEARLY DROVE ME NUTS SINCE IT CAUSED JERKY RECOVERIES DURING PROBABLY WELL MORE THAN 2500 MILES OF THE TRIP. THE DATE PROVIDED BELOW IS THE FIRST DAY OF OUR ROAD TRIP. AGAIN, THIS ISN'T A NEW ISSUE WITH THIS CAR...IT'S BEEN GOING ON NEARLY NON-STOP WITH DRIVING OVER 35-40 MPH SINCE 2016. *TR

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE STEERING GETS "STUCK" AND REQUIRES EXTRA EFFORT TO TURN CAUSING ABRUPT MOVEMENTS. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN MAKING SMALL ADJUSTMENTS. THIS ISSUE STARTS AFTER THE CAR IS WARMED UP AND DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. *TR

STARTED TO NOTICE SLIGHT STIFFNESS WITH NO VEERING IN STEERING ON SHORT COMMUTES TO WORK GOING HWY SPEED. ONCE I STARTED TO DRIVE LONGER TRIPS AND HIGHER SPEEDS, I KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH STEERING SIGNIFICANTLY! THE STEERING IS NO LONGER HAVE THE GLIDING CONTROL LIKE NORMAL. NOW IT SEEMS MORE STIFF LIKE STICKING WHILE CONTROLLING THE STEERING WHEEL. WENT FROM A GLIDE STEER TO FORCEFULLY HAVING TO JERK STEERING BACK TO CONTROL IT (SIMILAR TO A STICKY BUTTON) BUT IT'S THE DARN STEERING WHEEL. SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO START HAPPENING OUT OF THE BLUE WITH NO ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND ALL MAINTENANCE KEPT UP TO DATE IS A BIG ISSUE! THIS REALLY SUCKS AND I HAVE SEEN HOW MUCH THIS TYPE OF ISSUE COST. SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN 'ELECTRICAL ISSUE' ON A BROAD SCALE (FEWER MILES AND HIGHER MILES HONDA) THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. NOT A CONSUMER OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE!

I HAVE A 2016 CIVIC LX 2 DOOR. RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY STEERING FEELS VERY STRANGE. IT FEELS ALMOST NOTCHY OR STICKY LIKE THERE IS SOME SORT OF BIND OR SOMETHING. I'LL BE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND GO TO ADJUST FOR A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND FEEL RESISTANCE AT THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAVE TO USE SLIGHT FORCE TO OVERCOME IT RESULTING IN THE CAR TO OVERCORRECT AND JERK SIDEWAYS. I'VE LOOKED INTO IT SOME AND IT SEEMS OTHERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ( HTTPS://WWW.CIVICX.COM/FORUM/THREADS/STEERING-IS-STIFF-AND-NOTCHY-FEELING.14767/ ) ( HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/HONDA/CIVIC/2016/STEERING/STEERING.SHTML ). AFTER 30-60 MINUTES ON A DRIVE IN 70+ DEGREE WEATHER THE STEERING STARTS "STICKING". IT IS NOT SMOOTH AND RESULTS IN OVERCORRECTING. ISSUE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER ATTENTION LAST SUMMER WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND COULD NOT BE FOUND BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN LONG ENOUGH. LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINTS HERE COMMON ISSUE. NOW NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WARMER TEMPS BROUGHT BACK THE ISSUE. NEEDS EPS RECALLED AND REPLACED.*DT *TR

STEERING BINDS FORCING DRIVER TO EXERT EXTRA FORCE CAUSING OVERSTEER. A CLUNKING NOISE CAN BE HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING RACK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY DETECTED DURING A DRIVE BETWEEN HOUSTON AND AUSTIN MAY 2019 AND WAS NOTICEABLE ONLY WHEN DRIVING LONGER DISTANCES AND HIGHER SPEEDS, IN PARTICULAR ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALER IN JUNE 2019 WHO IDENTIFIED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (40 MONTHS, 46K MILES), I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WHICH THEY DISCOUNTED FROM $3,800 TO $900. I OPTED NOT TO MAKE THE REPAIR BECAUSE I BELIEVE HONDA WOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL AND SINCE THEN THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN WORSE, OCCURRING ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AT ANY SPEED WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE 80F. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUES AS IT HAS CHANGED THE PART NUMBER FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RACK ONE OR TWO TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE ORIGINALLY CAME OUT, BUT HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL. LATEST PART NUMBER IS 53650-TBC-A22. HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT I WILL BE REPAIRING AS IT IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME NOW AND I BELIEVE IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. *TR

AFTER DRIVING FOR AROUND 30 MINUTES THE STEERING STARTS "STICKING". IT IS NOT SMOOTH AND RESULTS IN OVERCORRECTING BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO SORT OF UNSTICK IT TO KEEP THE CAR IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON THE ROAD. NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE IN ANY CAR BUT CAN SEE FROM REPORTS ON THE INTERNET THAT IT'S A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVIC. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN JAN 2020 AND HAVE ONLY DRIVE A LITTLE OVER 2000 MILES SINCE THAT TIME. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 32,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

STEERING STIFFENS UP VEERS, FEELS LOCKED, AND REQUIRES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO CORRECT CAUSING A SWAY INTO AN ADJACENT LANE. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER VEHICLE IS DRIVEN 20-30 MINS AND SPEEDS ABOVE 40MPH. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWN THIS IS A COMMON EPS FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE. THE EPS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK IS A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN, AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE, AND SHOULD NOT FAIL SO EARLY IN ITS LIFE. REQUEST NHTSA REQUIRE HONDA TO RECALL OR EXTEND THE WARRANTY. *TR

I BROUGHT MY 2016 HONDA CIVIC TO DARLING' S HONDA IN BANGOR, MAINE FOR STEERING PROBLEMS. THE STEERING STICKS IN ONE POSITION AND REQUIRES A LITTLE FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION. THE STICKING CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK, AND STICKS AGAIN IN THE OTHER POSITION. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS DO THIS, THE VEHICLE MUST BE DRIVEN FOR A WHILE SOMETIMES. I ADVISED THE SERVICE ADVISOR (SA), BRADLEY GONYA, THAT NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE (SEVERAL HONDA FORUMS) HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE, AND THEY ALL STATED THAT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE SA, SAID THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER TO FIND A CODE, TO WHICH THERE WAS NO FAULTY CODE. THE SA, SAID THEY ROAD TESTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE CONCERN. *NOTE: MILEAGE IN 38290, MILEAGE OUT 38291 AS STATED ON RECEIPT ( MILE OUT TEST DRIVE AND MILE BACK. SA STATED THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND STRUTS CHECKED OK. REMOVED OUTER TIE ROD ENDS FROM KNUCKLES AND RECHECKED STEERING, NO PROBLEMS FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS THERE FOR ONE WEEK, THE SA STATED THAT THEY WOULD CHECK IT DAILY TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I ADVISED THE SA THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN TO DUPLICATE, AND THAT I DID NOT WANT TO PAY THE OUTRAGEOUS $120 PER HOUR RATE FOR THEM TO JUST LOOK AND RIDE, AND I RESTATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM. THE SA STATED THAT UNLESS THE COMPUTER STATES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, THEY CAN'T CHANGE THE PART.

THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2016 CIVIC SEDAN EX-T BECOMES JERKY OR STICKY AFTER DRIVING ROUGHLY 30 MINUTES ON A HOT DAY. IT MAKES HIGHWAY DRIVING VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN MAKING SMALL ADJUSTMENTS FROM ON CENTER, THE STEERING WHEEL IS HITTING RESISTANCE SIDE TO SIDE. YOU ARE FORCED TO OVERPOWER IT LOCKING UP CAUSING UNINTENTIONAL SWERVING. WHY DOESN'T THE SAFETY RECALL FOR 2017-2018 STEERING GEARBOX REPLACEMENT ALSO APPLY TO 2016 MODEL YEARS? I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SINCE AT LEAST 60K MILES, NOW AT OVER 100K. I HAVE HAD TO SWITCH TO WORKING OVERNIGHTS DURING THE SUMMER TO AVOID THIS VERY ISSUE. I HAVE FOUND THAT TAKING THE UNDER TRAY OFF EXTENDED MY DRIVING TIME SLIGHTLY BEFORE THE ISSUE REAPPEARS. HOWEVER, THIS CREATES A PARACHUTE UNDER MY CAR NOW THE UNDER TRAY IS REMOVED. NOW SUMMER IS BACK, I AM HERE NOW TO PLEAD WITH SOMEONE TO PLEASE FORCE HONDA TO REMEDY THIS OBVIOUS FLAW. THERE ARE MANY ACCOUNTS EXACTLY LIKE THIS. ITS A PROBLEM ON EVERY CAR, ALTHOUGH NOT EVERYONE DRIVES THEIR CAR ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE IT. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE HONDA SERVICE AFTER WARRANTY WITH NO ANSWER THEN. I WILL BE FORCED TO SELL MY CAR OR TRY AND REMOVE THE STEERING RACK MYSELF AND SPEND MONEY I SHOULDN'T NEED TO. HONDA CREATED A FAULTY EPS ON ALL 10TH GENERATION CIVICS 2016-2018.

AFTER I DRIVE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT HAS A CATCH IN IT. IT MAINLY HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN MAKING MINOR MOVEMENTS TRYING TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE IT FEELS LIKE IT CATCHES AND I HAVE TO PUSH THROUGH IT, THE CAR STARTS WEAVING A TAKES A FEW SECOND TO GAIN CONTROL OF IT. THIS PROBLEM BECAME VERY OBVIOUS WHEN I WAS DRIVING FROM ALABAMA TO ILLINOIS. IT HAPPENED THE ENTIRE WAY THERE AND BACK. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL A FEW TIMES. INCREDIBLY SCARY, ESPECIALLY WHEN OTHER CARS ARE NEAR.

I'VE DETERMINED THAT THIS NORMALLY OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 20-30 MINUTES AND AT HIGHER AMBIENT TEMPERATURES OUTSIDE. HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS JUST DRIVING AROUND TOWN. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED IN JANUARY OF 2020, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS NOW.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING GETS STIFF AND WHEN YOU TURN STEERING WHEEL IT DARTS UNEXPECTEDLY TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT . THIS CAR IS A 2016 WITH ONLY 31000 MILES ON IT. I HOPE IT DOESN'T GET ANY WORSE BECAUSE IT'S NOT SAFE. N

I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE TO HER DOCTORS APPOINTMENT IN MELBOURNE FLORIDA. AFTER 20 MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 55-65 MPH I NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL SEAMED TO BE STICKING IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION.IF I HAD TO CORRECT LEFT OR RIGHT I WOULD HAVE TO USE FORCE AND IT WOULD SNAP AND JUMP ABOUT AN INCH CAUSING ME TO WEAVE INTO THE NEXT LANE. I PULL OFF AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION TO CHECK MY TIRES AND COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. I NOTICED THAT AFTER I SLOWED DOWN TO LESS THAN 40 MPH THE STEERING WORKED FINE, I GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE GOT UP TO SPEED AND IT STARTED STICKING AGAIN.GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND TOOK BACK ROADS THE REST OF THE WAY THERE AND HOME. TOOK IT OUT THE NEXT DAY AND IT WOULD NOT DO IT BUT NOW AFRAID TO TAKE LONG TRIPS FOR FEAR OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT. CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND NO RECALL.WHY DOE'S SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE TO GET THINGS FIXED.

MY VEHICLE, HONDA CIVIC 2016, WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT. IN THE MORNING WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE, IT GAVE ME ERRORS IN ALL SYSTEMS: BRAKE SYSTEM ERROR, POWER STEERING ERROR, TIRE PRESSURE ERROR, ETC. I COULD SHIFT THE GEAR, BUT STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I TOWED A CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS 3.5 YEARS OLD, 36000 MILES, THE WARRANTY ENDED ONLY 6 MONTH AGO. HONDA PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE OF $1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN A FEW DAYS WHEN I WAS SUPPOSE TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, HONDA CALLED ME SAYING THAT THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND NOW THEY NEED TO REPLACE A POWER STEERING RACK AND POWER STEERING MOTOR AND IT WOULD COST $3000. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AFTER ONLY 36000 MILES.

STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT CAUSING THE CAR TO EITHER DRIVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. STEERING AT 40 PLUS MPH GETS STIFF MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STAY IN LANE
Mileage: 6,000
I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. AFTER 20 MINUTES DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFENS UP A LOT AND THE CAR STARTS DRIFTING LEFT OR RIGHT. THEREFORE, I HAVE TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION IT IS DRIFTING IN. THIS OCCURS EVERY COUPLE MINUTES. I HAVE TO ESSENTIALLY DRIVE IN A ZIG ZAG FORMATION TO STAY IN THE SAME LANE. AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND ONTO LOCAL ROADS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS ON LOCAL ROADS BUT IS LESS FREQUENT THAN ON THE HIGHWAY. HAVING THIS MUCH DIFFICULTLY STEERING THE CAR IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND CAN LEAD TO CAR ACCIDENTS. AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING RACK HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE CAR HAS ALREADY PASSED, THEY QUOTED ME OVER $3,000. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL BY HONDA ON THE 2017 AND 2018 CIVICS FOR THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM (EPS). BUT, THE EPS IN THE 2016 MODEL GETS OVERLOOKED. 2016 CIVIC DRIVERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SHELL OUT SO MUCH MONEY TO GET A CAR WITH A PROPERLY FUNCTION EPS.
ANYTHING OVER 30 MPH, I CAN'T KEEP THE CAR DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, IT CONSTANTLY DRIFTS LEFT AND RIGHT. THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO "STICK" AND REQUIRES CONSTANT BACK AND FORTH ADJUSTMENT TO CONTROL THE CAR. NEWNAN GA HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING RACK WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACES FOR $3300. THERE ARE MANY 2016 CIVICS WITH THIS PROBLEM. I'M FAR FROM BEING THE ONLY PERSON THIS HAS AFFECTED.
Mileage: 39,000
I PURCHASED A USED 2016 HONDA CIVIC TOURING AND DIDN'T NOTICE THIS PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I DIDN'T DRIVE IT LONG ENOUGH ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGINS TO DRIFT EVER SO SLIGHTLY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE FORUMS AND SOME HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S EPS RACK. HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPLACE THIS. SOMEONE EVEN MADE A VIDEO ON THIS ISSUE HTTP://YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=W5X_CAVHXMM

STICKY STEERING WHEEL. SUBTLE MOVEMENTS CAUSE RESISTANCE AND FORCE ME TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL IN A SPECIFIC DIRECTION. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 30-40 MINUTES. CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2016.
Mileage: 35,000
STEERING THE CAR IS DIFFICULT. WHEN THE CAR DRIFTS OR YOU TURN THE CAR IN EITHER DIRECTION THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS. THIS CAUSES YOU TO OVER CORRECT TO BREAK FREE THE STICKING SENSATION OR CAUSES YOU TO DRIFT EXCESSIVELY TO EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT. CONTROLLING THE CAR TAKES MORE FORCE THAN IT SHOULD REQUIRE AND I STILL CAN'T ENSURE I CAN DRIVE IT SAFELY. CAR IS A 2016 AND I'VE READ SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME CAR HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX BY CHANGING OUT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR ($1550) BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.
Mileage: 60,000
WHEN MAKING SMALL ADJUSTMENTS KEEPING A STRAIGHT TRAJECTORY ABOVE 55 MPH THERE IS A "STICKY POINT" IN THE STEERING. WHEN LIGHTLY MOVING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT YOU ENCOUNTER A POINT OF RESISTANCE, STEERING THROUGH THE RESISTANCE FORCES AN OVER COMPENSATION MAKING A ZIGZAG STYLE OF HIGHWAY DRIVING. IMPORTANT THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT SELF CENTER EVEN IF YOU TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE WHEEL, YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO STEER BACK THROUGH THE POINT OF RESISTANCE TO RE-CENTER THE WHEEL. THE HONDA PART NUMBER BEING REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IS 53650-TBA-A01
Mileage: 50,000
WHEN DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES OR MORE ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING BEGINS TO STICK WHILE TRYING DRIVE STRAIGHT.
Mileage: 32,000
THE STEERING IS VERY JERKY AND SOMETIMES STICK. IT STICKS AND YOU HAVE TO SNATCH IT IN ORDER FOR IT TO TURN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL GETS STUCK WHILE DRIVING OVER 55.
EVERY SINGLE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT AND SYSTEM CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON. GET MESSAGE THAT SYSTEM IS INITIALIZING. SAYS PROBLEM WITH TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM, STABILITY, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM (EPS) PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM, ETC. DESPITE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS, THESE LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF. STEERING IS LOOSE AND FEELS OUT OF CONTROL.
Mileage: 48,000
AFTER DRIVING MY 2016 CIVIC (WITH LESS THAN 18K MILES) ON THE HIGHWAY FOR MORE THAN ~15 MINUTES, THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN AWAY FROM CENTER. THIS STICKY STEERING REQUIRES ADDITIONAL EFFORT TO TURN THE WHEEL FROM STRAIGHT. THIS WAS VERY NOTICEABLE EVEN WHEN TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR IN MY LANE. AND AFTER THE STEERING BECOMES STICKY, IT PERSISTS EVEN AT LOWER SPEEDS OFF THE HIGHWAY. MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSED (AND REPLACED) A FAILED ELECTRICAL POWER-STEERING RACK. I SAW MANY OTHER PEOPLE DESCRIBING THIS SAME PROBLEM IN VARIOUS ONLINE CAR AND CIVIC FORUMS.
Mileage: 17,990
WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE FOR ABOUT AT LEAST 15 MINUTES, THE STEERING WHEEL SORT OF STICKS AND TAKES EXTRA PRESSURE TO TURN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN YOU'RE SIMPLY TRYING TO CORRECT MINOR LANE DRIFTING TO STAY STRAIGHT AND IT TAKES EXTRA EFFORT TO DO SO. IT COULD DEFINITELY BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD SHOULD YOU FAIL TO MOVE THE WHEEL IN ENOUGH TIME.
Mileage: 14,500
STEERING ISSUE- ONCE WARMED UP AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS (NOTICED ON HIGHWAY) CAR PULL LEFT AND RIGHT. MUST USE FORCE TO CORRECT MERGING OF THE CAR. RESPONSE TIME IS LOW WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT THE CAR BACK INTO YOUR LANE. ALMOST FEELS LIKE THE WHEEL IS STICKING
Mileage: 27,581
WHEN IM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AROUND 60 TO 75 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS. I NEED TO JERK IT BACK TO POSITION. IT HAPPENS AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 30 MINS. ALREADY BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES IN IN THE PAST 2 YEARS BUT THEY CANT SEEM TO "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT IS GETTING WORSE. CAR HAS 34000 MILES ON IT.
Mileage: 26,000
I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND AT ABOUT 35500 MILES THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, STRAIGHT ALWAYS OR TURNS IT KEEPS FEELING LIKE IT IS STICKING. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAD ME PAY FOR AN ALIGNMENT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT PULLING. IT DID NOT WORK AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. THEY HAVE NO OTHER SOLUTIONS. IT IS DANGEROUS AND I AM STILL PAYING ON MY CAR SO I NEED IT.
Mileage: 35,500
STEERING WHEEL IS NOTCHY, WHEN I DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS AND THERE DOESN'T WANT TO TURN MAKING THE CAR WEAVE. ALSO WHEN IT'S IN PARK AND YOU TRY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SLOWLY IT SHAKES AND JITTERS. CAR FEELS VERY UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING
Mileage: 20
STEERING IS NOTCHY AND WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR THE STEERING IS JITTERY, STICKY AND HARD TO MOVE. IT'S VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE FROM SPEEDS BETWEEN 20-70 MILES PER HOUR. ALSO WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK, WHEN I TRY TO SLOWLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IT WILL SHAKE AND STUFFER. IT'S VERYBHARD TO MOVE THE STEERING RACK. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND MIGHT CAUSE A COLLISION.
Mileage: 20
2016 HONDA CIVIC LX, APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES HAS A "STICKY" OR "NOTCHY" FEEL TO THE STEERING DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. THE VEHICLE DRIFTS SLOWLY TO ONE SIDE OF THE LANE, THEN WHEN I TRY TO CORRECT BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE, THE STEERING FEELS STICKY AND WITH SLIGHTLY MORE EFFORT TO NUDGE IT TO THE MIDDLE, IT OVERCORRECTS SLIGHTLY AND IS THEN DRIFTING TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LANE. THIS CONTINUES BACK AND FORTH FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP. NOTE THAT THIS IS SUBTLE AND IT TAKES 5-10 SECONDS FOR EACH DRIFT SIDE TO SIDE. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED ON LONG HIGHWAY TRIPS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR AT LEAST 30 OR 45 MINUTES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS ELECTRONIC STEERING PROBLEM WILL CAUSE SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN WHERE I DO NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL OF THE STEERING. I NOTICED ALSO A POSSIBLE RELATED PROBLEM WHEN AT PARKING SPEED, IF I INCH THE CAR WHILE TURNING AND PRESSING THE BRAKE LIGHTLY I CAN FEEL THE STEERING "TWITCH" A LITTLE.
Mileage: 20,500
STEERING ISSUE- ONCE WARMED UP AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS (NOTICED ON HIGHWAY) CAR PULL LEFT AND RIGHT. MUST USE FORCE TO CORRECT MERGING OF THE CAR. RESPONSE TIME IS LOW WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT THE CAR BACK INTO YOUR LANE. ALMOST FEELS LIKE THE WHEEL IS STICKING. CAR ONLY HAS 34K MILES- NO REPORTED ACCIDENTS. NO DAMAGE TO STEERING THAT I CAN SEE. MANY SITES HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT WERE FOUND BY A SEARCH
Mileage: 34,000
STEERING BECOMES VERY RESISTANT TO INPUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED (60MPH +) REQUIRING CONSIDERABLE FORCE TO OVERCOME OFTEN RESULTING IN OVER CORRECTION. HAS BEEN HAPPENING INTERMITANTLY SINCE PASSING THE 50000 MILE MARKER.
Mileage: 62,500
STICKING STERING WHEEL. MY STEERING "STICKS" AFTER I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINS AT AROUND 40/45+ MPH WHEN TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 70F. TAKE YOUR HAND OFF THE WHEEL ON A SLIGHT CURVE AND IT STAYS WITH THE CURVE. TRYING TO DO A SLIGHT CORRECTION WHEN IT'S LIKE THIS AND IT LITERALLY STICKING IN PLACE FOR A SEC THEN ALLOWS THE WHEEL TO TURN MORE FREELY.
Mileage: 23,000
I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC AND ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED MOSTLY ON THE INTERSTATE, THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD GET "STICKY". I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND I ADDRESSED MY CONCERN TO THE MECHANIC. WHEN I CAME BACK HE TOLD ME HIM AND ALL OF HIS TECHNICIANS DROVE THE CAR AND NO ONE HAD A CLUE AS TO WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. OVER TIME IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. IT HAPPENS AFTER DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. ONLY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS POSITIONED 100% STRAIGHT. WHEN YOU PULL TO ONE SIDE, AND IT NEVER MATTERS LEFT OR RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S BOTH SIDES, IT'S LIKE ITS STUCK OR PULLING AGAINST YOU, LIKE A RESISTANCE. THEN IT SUDDENLY LET'S GO AND IT JERKS. AND THEN IT'S BACK THE OTHER WAY. SO YOU'RE FIGHTING THE STEERING WHEEL THE WHOLE TIME DRIVING WHILE YOU'RE JERKING BACK AND FORTH SIDE TO SIDE ALL OVER THE LANE. AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE JUST INTERSTATE. DUE TO BEING A SINGLE MOM AND NOT HAVING THE "TIME OFF WORK" AS WELL AS NO ONE BELIEVING ME, HERE I AM ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER AND IT'S SO MUCH WORSE. IT'S ALSO SUMMER NOW WHICH I NOTICE IT'S ALSO AT ITS WORST WHEN ITS BLAZING TEMPERATURES. IT'S GOTTEN SO BAD THAT I CAN ACTUALLY HEAR A NOISE NOW WHEN IT DOES IT. I'VE LOOKED THIS UP BECAUSE I FELT LIKE PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY AND WITH THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I CAN'T FIGURE HOW THIS HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THINGS ON VEHICLES NEED TO BE REPLACED AFTER A WHILE. THEY NEED MAINTENANCE AND THEY COST MONEY. BUT FOR THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE ON THE SAME CAR AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE?! I BOUGHT A HONDA FOR THE NAME, FOR THE QUALITY, AND FOR THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT AT THIS POINT, THAT IT'S BEING LOOKED OVER, I'M ON THE VERGE OF TRADING IT IN FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN A HONDA.

SO I JUST BOUGHT A 2016 HONDA CIVIC LX 2.0 USED TODAY WITH 26,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP WAS A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR AWAY AND ABOUT 30 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE HOME I NOTICED THE STEERING FELT LIKE IT WAS STICKING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 65MPH. IT FELT NOTCHY AND STICKY LIKE I HAD TO USE A LITTLE FORCE TO START BEING ABLE TO STEER AGAIN. WHICH CAUSES YOU TO OVERCORRECT A BIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN ON THE HIGHWAY. I LOOKED IT UP AND THERE'S LIKE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.. THE SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE A NEW STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY...

STEERING WHEEL STICKS (RESISTANCE TO TURNING) WHEN CAR IS WARMED UP. MOST NOTABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
Mileage: 40,000
WHEN DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO GET A STICKING FEELING WHEN TRYING TO MAKE SMALL MOVEMENTS. THIS CAUSES YOU TO OVERCORRECT YOUR STEERING AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU CAN POTENTIALLY RUN INTO ANOTHER PERSON OR OBJECT. YOU FEEL A CLICKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT IS MOST NOTABLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO WORSEN THE MORE YOU DRIVE. MY CAR ONLY HAVE 32000 MILES ON IT.

I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX, I WAS ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN THE STEERING BECAME HARD LIKE IT WAS STICKING. I GOT ON THE INTERSTATE AND ACCELERATED THE FASTER I GOT THE WORSE IT GOT.IT'S PULLS ME TO THE LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT. I THEN LOWERED MY SPEED TO 50 BUT IT STILL CONTINUED TO DO THIS AND HAS NOW GOTTEN WORSE IT NEVER STOPS AND IS VERY HARD TO KEEP IN ONE LANE.KNOW THERHAS BEEN RECALLS ON THE 2017 HONDA CIVICS FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE FOUND THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY LOCK UP AND HAS ALREADY CAUSED ACCIDENTS. I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANYONE ANY INJURIES OR GOD FORBID SOMEONE LOSE THEIR LIFE. IT'S GETTING ALOT WORSE . WILL NOTIFY HONDA. IMMEDIATELY!
Mileage: 19,000
THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS CATCHING WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE. WHEN IT RELEASES, YOU HAVE TO CORRECT THE STEERING QUICKLY IN ORDER TO STAY IN THE LANE. THIS A CONSTANT PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO TIMES WHEN THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK ESPECIALLY WHEN ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AND THERE IS AN ONCOMING CAR IN THE OTHER LANE.
Mileage: 51,000
WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO AN INTERVIEW & I WAS PROBABLY A BLOCK FROM HOME. I WAS AT A STOP & WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE & TURN LEFT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MID DRIVE & CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO A CURB.
Mileage: 45,000
THE STEERING STARTED 'STICKING' IN PLACE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. WHEN DRIVING IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S A CATCH IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN YOU TRY TO MAINTAIN A LANE AND YOU HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THEN LEFT TO STAY IN A LANE. YOU HAVE TO FORCEFULLY OVERCOME THIS STICKING RESISTANCE WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO VEER TOWARD THE OTHER LANE AND THIS PROCESS IS CONTINUALLY REPEATED AS YOU DRIVE. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO WANT TO PUSH ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON 2 LANE ROADS. SURPRISED THERE IS NO RECALL BECAUSE I SEE MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON NHTSB AND IN ONLINE HONDA FORUMS, THE COMMON RESOLUTION SEEMS TO BE REPLACEMENT OF FACTORY DEFECTIVE EPS HARDWARE.
Mileage: 22,000
AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, STEERING BECOMES ERRATIC. WHEEL TAKES FORCE TO TURN INITIALLY, CAUSING OVER-CORRECTION WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. THIS PROBLEM IS CONSISTENTLY REPRODUCIBLE. CAR IS WITH DEALER NOW TO FIX.
Mileage: 53,000
WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY TODAY AROUND 60 MPH IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING WAS STICKING ON ME. WHEN I WOULD TRY TO CORRECT MY STEERING LEFT OR RIGHT IT WOULD FEEL STUCK FOR A SECOND THEN IT WOULD GO. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS.

WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY LAST NIGHT AFTER WORK, MY CAR DASH LIT UP WITH ALERTS, ONE AFTER ANOTHER. I TRIED TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON, AND THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO AWAY. THEY ARE STILL ON TODAY. THEY WERE EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE HOLD SYSTEM PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM (EPS) PROBLEM, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) PROBLEM, AND HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM. I TOOK A VIDEO OF THE ALERTS. I WILL TRY TO UPLOAD A PICTURE.

AFTER DRIVING FOR 30+ MINUTES, I NOTICE MY STEERING WHEEL STICKING IN PLACE, WHEN I NEED TO SLIGHTLY MOVE OR TURN THE WHEEL I HAVE TO APPLY FORCE AND IT ALMOST CAUSES ME TO OVER CORRECT AND VEER INTO ANOTHER LANE. IF GETS WORSE TO LONGER I DRIVE AND WITH THE WEIGHT OF PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ THE SAME ISSUE FROM OTHERS AND THEY HAVE SAID THIS IS POSSIBLY A POWER STEERING ISSUE.

I'M GLAD I FOUND THIS THREAD I HAVE A 2016 HONDA CIVIC EX-T. AFTER I'VE BEEN DRIVING 10 OR 15 MINUTES, MOSTLY ON A HIGHWAY, SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGINS TO VEER SLIGHTLY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WHEN I GO TO CORRECT, THE STEERING WHEEL RESISTS. IT "STICKS" UNTIL I APPLY A BIT MORE PRESSURE, AFTER WHICH IT SUDDENLY RELEASES, CORRECTS, AND ACTS NORMAL. MOMENTS LATER HOWEVER, IT VEERS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND I AM FORCED TO REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. END RESULT IS I BEGIN DRIFTING SLIGHTLY BACK AND FORTH DOWN THE HIGHWAY REPEATEDLY, WHILE FIGHTING WITH A STEERING WHEEL. I FEEL IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE GOING DOWN A 3-LANE INTERSTATE, AND I'M IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH 2 SEMI TRUCKS ON EITHER SIDE OF ME, THE CAR STARTS VEERING, I GO TO CORRECT AND THE STEERING "STICKS", CAUSING ME TO OVER CORRECT, THERE'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE BEEN READING A HONDA CIVIC FORUM, THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACE THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY (PART NUMBER: 53650-TBC-A21 OR 53650-TBA-A22).

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER 65MPH, THE STEERING GETS "STICKY" THE DRIVER HAS TO APPLY EXTRA FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DIVING STRAIGHT. THE MINOR STEERING CORRECTIONS THAT WE USE TO KEEP A CAR CENTERED IN A LANE NOW BECOME SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES TWO HANDS BECAUSE ONCE YOU "BREAK" THE STEERING WHEEL FREE, THE CAR OVER-CORRECTS AND YOU NEED BOTH HANDS TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE YOU ARE DRIVING IN. THE FORCE REQUIRED ISN'T A LOT, BUT ENOUGH TO MAKE A LONG ROAD TRIP UNDOABLE.
Mileage: 9,500
WHEN DRIVING MY CAR AT 60 OR 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE STEERING WHEEL STAYS STUCK AND MAKES DRIVING DIFFICULT CAUSING STRONG PULLS TO THE SIDES AND CAUSES INSECURITY AND DIFFICULTY WHEN DRIVING LONG DISTANCES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IN JUNE OF 2018 EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND A HONDA TECHNICIAN MADE THE TEST WITH ME NEXT AND IT HAPPENED THE SAME. HE REPORTED IT AND THEY ONLY MADE ONE BATTERY CHANGE. TODAY JANUARY 13 OF 2019 THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND IS GETTING WORSE. THE CAR HAS 26,114 MILES TODAY.

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (APPLE HONDA 1, 801 WHITEFORD RD, YORK, PA) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE SMALL ADJUSTMENTS. MUST APPLY ADDED PRESSURE TO GET PAST THE STICK. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVEN FOR LONGER TIMES AND WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOT. TAKEN TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT TOLD THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM.
Mileage: 12,661
THE STEERING STICKS WHEN DRIVING. WHEN DRIVING, EVEN JUST ON A STRAIGHT PATH, YOU HAVE MAKE STEERING ADJUSTMENTS TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE. THE STEERING WILL STICK AND WHEN IT "BREAKS LOOSE,", THE CAR OVERCOMPENSATES AND JERKS. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE AND ON THE ROAD. ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE REQUIRING HIGHER RATES OF SPEED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE. HOWEVER, TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. I MADE THEM AWARE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE STEERING AND WAS TOLD HONDA WILL NOT ALLOW REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK WITHOUT REPLICATION OF THE ISSUE FIRST. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!
Mileage: 32,000
STATIONARY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, WOULD NOT START, BATTERY CHECK OK, COULD NOT TAKE OUT OF PARK, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SHOP AND HAVE TCM REPLACED AND SOFTWARE UPDATED- IN MOTION -STEERING WHEEL SLIPS AND SHAKES AS WELL - VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA.

THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THIS STICKING OR NOTCHING CAN BE FELT WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING AND IN PARK. THIS PROBLEM IS CONTINUOUS.
Mileage: 23,000
CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW. STEERING HAS STARTED STICKING. WHEN I AM DRIVING ON INTERSTATE IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S A CATCH IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN YOU TRY TO MAINTAIN LANE AND HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. YOU HAVE TO PUSH THROUGH THE "CATCH" FEEL WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK. IT HASN'T GOTTEN TO WHERE IT IS CONTINUOUSLY HAPPENING. ON MORE CURVING ROADS THE STEERING SEEMS TO CATCH, AND STICK, WHICH CAUSES ME TO HAVE TO DO THE SAME THING AND GET THE WHEEL THROUGH THE "CATCH" IN ORDER TO STAY ON THE ROAD WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK EVERY TIME. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE OF THE SMOOTH STEERING AND FOR THIS TO BE HAPPENING AT THE EXTENT IT IS NOW WHICH IS CAUSING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IS VERY DISTURBING. AFTER REVIEWING OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE I AM NOT SURE WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS.
AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 5+ MINUTES, THE STEERING HAS A CATCH IN IT. EVEN GOING AROUND TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL STICK IN THE POSITION (I CAN TAKE MY HANDS OFF THE WHEEL AND IT STAYS IN THE SAME TURNING POSITION IT'S IN) MAKING ME USE SMALL FORCE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION WHEN IT SHOULD TURN BACK NATURALLY. IT DOES THE SAME THING ON STRAIGHT ROADS LIKE AN INTERSTATE. IT MAKES KEEPING LANE CONTROL DIFFICULT WHEN THE VEHICLE MAY VEAR TO A CERTAIN SIDE. CAUSING THE CAR TO BE 'JERKY'
I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START BEING STICKY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. . THE POWER STEERING WORKED FINE BUT FOR SUBTLE MOVEMENTS, IT WOULD CAUSE RESISTANCE. THIS WAS MOST FREQUENT WHEN DRIVING OVER AN HOUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOTICE THAT THE WHEEL TENDS TO STICK AFTER IT'S BEEN STRAIGHT FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND I NEED TO APPLY MORE FORCE TO MAKE A SMALL ADJUSTMENT ON THE HIGHWAY. I DO NOT HAVE THE LKAS. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING.
Mileage: 32,000

STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I ADJUST THE WHEEL TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT PATH OR TAKING A CURVE, THE WHEEL STICKS CAUSING ME TO USE MORE FORCE THAN USUAL TO TURN THE WHEEL. BY USING MORE FORCE TO BREAK THE 'WHEEL STICK', THE CAR TENDS TO OVER COMPENSATE. YOU ARE FORCED TO ALWAYS HAVE BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND IT MAKES THIS CAR A VERY UNENJOYABLE AND UNSAFE EXPERIENCE TO DRIVE.

WILL BRING THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, IF THEY CANNOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, WILL TRADE CAR IN IMMEDIATELY (CAR HAS LESS THAN 10K MILES ON IT). I WILL NOT CONTINUE TO HAVE MY FAMILY DRIVE IN THIS CAR IF PROBLEM CANNOT BE RESOLVED.
LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN KING ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE 2016 HONDA CIVIC DEFECTIVE CAR. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BLUETOOTH WOULD FREEZE DURING AN INCOMING CALL. THIS CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED BY SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD BLOW HOT AIR. THE STEERING WHEEL MELTED BLACK PARTICLES ONTO THE DRIVERS HANDS. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPLACED. *JS

ON TWO OCCASIONS, MY CIVIC HAS "LOCKED UP". UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATE AND THE CAR WON'T GO INTO GEAR. I WAS STUCK WHERE I WAS AND HAD TO GET THE CAR MOVING SO I FORCEFULLY ENGAGED THE VEHICLE BY INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE SHIFT KNOB AREA. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK WELL, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I EVENTUALLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND "RESET" THE COMPUTER THAT WAY. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN CAME BACK AGAIN SAME EXACT WAY. THE NEXT TIME, I DID THE SAME THING, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT RESET. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM IS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, TRANSMISSION, BRAKING, OR WHATEVER. ALL I KNOW IS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AFTER I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OTHER POINT TO MAKE, I ALREADY HAD THE "PARKING BRAKE RECALL" SOFTWARE UPDATE COMPLETED BY HONDA. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND ALL THEY COULD DO WOULD BE RESTART THE CAR UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. I DID NO THINK THIS WAS A GOOD USE OF TIME (THEIRS OR MINE) SO I AM HOPING FOR A RECALL SOON!

MY STEERING WHEEL STICKS. WHEN I AM DRIVING STRAIGHT WHILE MAINTIANING A STRAIGHT PATH YOU HAVE TO MAKE STEERING ADJUSTMENTS. IT STICK AND THEN CAUSES ME TO OVER COMPENSATE. WHEN DRIVING AROUND A CURVE I CAN LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT HOLD THE CURVE AND DOESN'T ROLL BACK TOT HE CENTER POSITION LIKE IT SHOULD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CANT RECREATE IT SO NOTHING GETS FIX. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 40 PERCENT OF THE TIME. IT HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING MOVED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

THERE ARE THREE ISSUES WITH THIS 2016 HONDA CIVIC. HOWEVER ONE OF THESE ISSUES MUST BE ADDRESSED "IMMEDIATELY". WHEN YOU GO TO PARK YOUR CAR,(HAVING IT IN A STATIONARY POSITION) YOU PUSH THE PUSH BUTTON TO TURN IT OFF. HOWEVER IF YOUR VEHICLE IS STILL IN DRIVE WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF, IT "TURNS OFF" AND GIVES YOU A WARNING TONE. BUT!!!! IF YOUR HARD OF HEARING, AND YOU DON'T HEAR THIS TONE, YOU GO TO GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE AND IT EITHER ROLLS BACKWARDS (KNOCKING YOU DOWN WITH THE DOOR) AS IT ROLLS AWAY FROM YOU (AND HOPEFULLY NOT OVER YOU), "OR" IT ROLLS FORWARD, RUNNING COMPLETELY AWAY FROM YOU. THERE IS NO SAFETY FEATURE, SUCH AS THE ACURA. THE ACURA AUTOMATICALLY LOCKS YOUR CARS POSITION SO IT DOESN'T ROLL AWAY FROM YOU OR OVER YOU... MY BOYFRIEND HAS BEEN HURT TWICE DUE TO THIS UNSAFE FEATURE. AND I MYSELF HAVE BEEN SURPRISED BY IT ONCE. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 5,000 MILES ON IT. QUESTION IS? HOW MANY MORE MILES WILL IT BE ABLE TO ACCUMULATE BEFORE KILLING ONE OF US, OR SOMEONE ELSE? IF THERE WAS A WAY FOR ME TO SEND YOU A VIDEO OF THIS I WOULD. BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD FROM MY PHONE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND VOLUNTARILY DRIFTED INTO THE OTHER LANES. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE FORCE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE LANE DEPARTURE AND STEERING REQUIRED WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A THREE SECOND DELAY FOR THE ACCELERATION AND ABS. AFTER THE DELAY, THE VEHICLE SURGED WITH POWER AND ACCELERATED AT A RAPID SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40.

WHEN THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) AND THE VEHICLE LANE KEEPING ASSIST SYSTEM (LKAS) ARE ENGAGED SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE VEHICLE WILL REACT UNPREDICTABLY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE MAY BRAKE SUDDENLY, RAPIDLY DECELERATE, AND QUICKLY DEPART THE HIGHWAY WHEN APPROACHING EXIT RAMPS. THE SITUATION OCCURS DURING DAYLIGHT AND NIGHTTIME HOURS WITH CLEAN CAMERAS AND RADAR WINDOW. DRIVER RESPONSE TIME IS TOO SLOW TO COUNTERACT THE EVENT. THE VEHICLE MAY SLOW BY 10-15 MPH AND DEPART THE HIGHWAY BEFORE THE DRIVER IS ABLE TO RESUME CONTROL. DURING 300 MILES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE VEHICLE DID THIS TWICE. A REAR END COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED IN ONE CASE.
