The electric power steering intermittently resists driver input during low-speed maneuvers and near full-lock turns. Steering effort suddenly increases and feels as if assist is being applied against driver input. This behavior matches the failure description in Honda EPS torque sensor magnet recall (2017–2018 Civic / CR-V, campaign C2N / P20). Honda confirmed my VIN is excluded, but the vehicle demonstrates identical safety symptoms. This condition reduces vehicle controllability and presents a crash risk

Steering is sticky and jerky Dangerous at high speeds bc it’s difficult to keep the car in the lane because of significant jerking

Nov 25, 2025

POWER STEERING (EPS) HAS OCCASIONAL STICKING ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ONE HONDA DEALER CONFIRMED BUT NO SERVICE DOCUMENTATION COMPLETED AS VIN NOT ON MANUFACTURER RECALL. HONDA HAS SHOWN ZERO INTEREST NOR CONCERN OF VEHICLES NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL OR TSB OF STEERING RACK ISSUES. HONDA DEALERS PREFER NOT TO BE BOTHERED BY CUSTOMERS WHO SHOW CONCERN FOR A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE ON STEERING RACK ISSUES, YES, EVEN IN MY CASE EITHER REFUSING TO INSPECT VEHICLE OUTRIGHT OR REFUSING TO DOCUMENT IF A PROBLEM IS FOUND. ADD THIS, BECAUSE VIN IS NOT ON LIST OF AFFECTED VEHICLES, DEALERS LEAVE IT UP TO AMERICAN HONDA TO HANDLE, WHICH THEY DO NOT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK AS DEALERS WILL REFUSE TO ACCEPT IT IN THEIR SERVICE DEPT.

In the middle of last year, at 44K miles, I noticed my steering was "twitchy". It feels like a magnet is sticking and results in constant steering inputs. This issue has gotten worse overtime and I took it to the dealer in September. They said there was a recall for steering malfunction on several Honda vehicles, but not mine. Reading information online, there are lots of complaints and concerns for multiple years and Honda models that EXACTLY match what I am experiencing. Why are some VIN's begin recalled but mine when I have the same symptoms??? This issue is dangerous at highway at speed. I just drove 500 miles this weekend and had to constantly move the wheel left/right, left/right to maintain my lane. It's exhausting, the steering feels heavy, twitchy and does not hold a straight line. Sometimes you can feel it twitch sitting at a stop light. My car is in MINT condition, garage kept, perfectly maintained and never abused. This is not a wear item. A steering rack should not be replaced at such low mileage. But most importantly, it is dangerous at highway speed and requires EXTREME FOCUS to keep the car in the lane. I will not let my two boys drive this car. I hope this is addressed by NHTSA to prevent injuries or death.

When driving at any speed, there is noticeable jerking in the power steering whenever making minor movements on the steering wheel. Rather than smoothly adjust the direction for the vehicle, this jerking will forcibly redirect the vehicle to move in the direction the steering wheel was turned. This results in the inability to smoothly drive straight and results in unpredictable jerking movements, which is a huge safety issue at high speeds. Similar recalls for this problem have been issued for other years of Honda Civics, but not for the 2017 one.

Sep 12, 2025

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or making a turn, the steering wheel was shaking abnormally, and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. A dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number:18V663000 (STEERING); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 61,724.

Experiencing what is described as sticky steering. Driving the car on the highway the steering feels stuck and hard to maneuver, making correction tricky. This is dangerous and mostly occurs when driving on the highway at high speed.

Sep 4, 2025

I am experiencing what is described as STICKY STEERING. This has been a consistent problem over the last several months. The ONLY time it sticks is when minute inputs to maintain straight are necessary. There is initial resistance to any input of the steering wheel (from straight ahead center) at the time of correction, and then that resistance breaks, resulting in over correction. Left or Right inputs are identical. This only occurs while attempting to maintain straight. It is not evident while making turns, nor do I feel ANY resistance, or breaking while turning the steering wheel when the car is stationary.

Aug 15, 2025

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was sticking. The steering wheel was pulling in one direction and jerking, causing the contact to make corrections to center the steering wheel. The contact stated that the failure had become more prevalent at highway speeds. Additionally, the TPMS warning light illuminated after the tires were replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Mileage: 140,000

Aug 8, 2025

After driving the car at highway speed for about 30 minutes the steering wheel feels sticky and hard to maneuver. This is dangerous and occurs any time the car has been driven on the highway for a while.

Aug 7, 2025

Over the last few months I’ve noticed my 2017 Civic SI steering feeling delayed or episodically unresponsive while driving on the interstate. The best way to describe it is as momentarily sticking where it doesn’t respond when making small steering movements requiring an over correction then correction to the over correction. I’m reading this a known issue with civics but aren’t seeing the 2017s included. The car feels unsafe when this happens. Is it possible to include this model as well?

Jul 31, 2025

This vehicle has a defect in the steering rack, specifically the gearbox. Symptoms include sticky or glitchy steering movements of the steering wheel. This cases jerky adjustments in steering the car. Honda has known about this issue with 10th generation civics but has only addressed models 2022-2025 with a recalls. This car is an effort to drive at highway speeds.

Jul 29, 2025

My steering wheel kept jerking and pulling my car while driving and I was told my steering gearbox needs replaced. I find it odd that this was a recall on all 2017 Honda Civic but not with mine. I would think if the recall is there and a vehicle the same year has the problem, there would be an issue to resolve

Jul 28, 2025

Sticky steering wheel. It gets worse to steer above 50 to 60 miles an hour. Noise when it is turned. The steering has once locked when turned to an extreme angle.

Jul 7, 2025

The steering feels like it is sticking, having to correct it all the time to keep a lane.

Jul 4, 2025

The steering wheel is sticking in my 2017 Civic. This problem happens more frequently after I have been driving for a while and is more common at speeds above 40 mph. The steering wheel will feel "locked" in place and require force to turn the wheel. It feels sticky and heavy, and occurs especially often on the freeway, leading to dangerous situations where I have to jerk the wheel, either causing my car to deviate from my path, or not allowing me to respond to changing road conditions in time. The steering column is still original and has not been previously repaired. These symptoms sound surprisingly like NHTSA recall # 4V-744, though my vehicle falls outside of the model range. Potentially defective parts include the electric power steering rack, the gearbox worm wheel, or a clock spring. It has not been replicated at a dealer despite multiple inspections, but I finally got a video of it happening. It has been happening for about a year, but has been getting worse. I checked my tire inflation multiple times and it has not resolved the problem. No warning lamps, message, or other symptoms have been reported.

Jul 4, 2025

There is a recall for 2022-2025 Honda civics for gearbox repair/sticky steering issues and my year 2017 is NOT included. I’ve had this issue since I bought my car from Phillipsburg/Easton Honda on October 3, 2023. I thought it was unique to this car until I looked it up online and noticed that several car owners have the same issue. I feel that N HTSA need to look into it and add 2017 Honda Civic to this recall. A mechanic told me it could cost upwards over $2300 to make this repair. How is a normal person supposed to afford such an expensive repair. I purchased a Honda for the first time in my life wanting an affordable good car and it’s been nothing but a headache since I purchased it. I am worried that because I drive the everyday on the highway, I will get into an accident one day because if the steering sticking issue… PLEASE HELP

Jul 2, 2025

The steering wheel of the vehicle often feels like it gets stuck around the 12 o’clock position frequently. Extra force is needed to correct steering. Then you have to correct the correction. The symptoms occur more often than not. This condition was discovered shortly after purchasing the used car. Honda dealer said steering rack would need replaced. The vehicle does not display any codes or service warnings. Since there are no recalls on this VIN#, I assume this will NEVER cause an accident to the occupants or others on the road.

Jul 1, 2025

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The contact stated that the steering wheel felt like it was sticking. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

Mileage: 117,000

Jun 29, 2025

I have owned my 2017 Honda Civic LX since it was new and have maintained the car consistently since purchasing it; the car is lightly driven and while over seven years old, only has 28,000 miles on it. In recent months, I had experienced some odd occurrences on the highway of my steering wheel seeming to stick when driving at highway speeds especially noticeable after driving the car for at least 10-15 minutes; there were no warning lights or other alerts on the car of a problem. I took my car to be evaluated at a Honda dealership service center in early May, as it was difficult to control the car within highway lanes, very dangerous especially in windy conditions. In that diagnostic appointment, a certified Honda mechanic verified the suspected cause of a sticky steering wheel - a failing steering rack. The mechanic could not explain why that part would fail, especially in a car with such low miles, as they said the problem was internal and could not be visualized. This is a known issue, and not just for the Civics and some other models from 2022-2025 for which there was a recall issued, but for the same generation Civics that mine is; there are many reports of 2016-2018 Civics having this issue around the 20-30,000 mile mark. After that diagnosis and being unwilling to pay out of pocket for an issue related to an internal component of an original Honda part, I reached out to Honda customer service. After spending a couple weeks communicating with Honda Customer Service and proving all the maintenance and diagnostics on the vehicle, they are unwilling to acknowledge this as an issue and have dismissed my case. I am asking that Honda be held accountable for this faulty part and stand by their brand and consumer safety, as this issue has led to crashes in Honda's with this defect.

Jun 25, 2025

The steering is sticky, especially when driving on the highway in a straight line. It feels as though the steering wheel is locked and you have to apply extra pressure to free it. This can cause the car to jerk and oversteer. It feels very unsafe.

Jun 10, 2025

There is a steering issue with this car and there are numerous complaints of this online. The steering as become very "sticky". This causes the need for constant steering corrections to be made often times causing over corrections because of the sticky nature of the wheel. This is very unsafe and can lead to accidents on the road. I have read this is an issue with the EPS system on the car.

Jun 4, 2025

When driving at high speeds (60+ mph) for longer distances (10+ miles), the steering wheel becomes "sticky". When minor adjustments are attempted, the steering wheel will resist turning until a significant amount of force is applied, then it will suddenly "unstick" causing overcorrection. This makes it difficult maintain lane safely. No warning lights active. Inspected by manufacturer and they could not reproduce, however they may not have driven it at high speeds for long enoug.

May 22, 2025

Steering feels notchie or sticky at speed on warm days. It makes very difficult to fine control the vehicle lane position. Several pounds of force are required to break free and move the wheel. The condition at first would show randomly, but is much more noticeable and frequent lately. It does this in the counterclockwise direction. It shows up on straight line driving. I am sure to the observes it looks like my vehicle is driven by an intoxicated driver.Same exactly as Honda reference C2N and P2O, but my car was not included in the recall.

May 16, 2025

For at least 6-9 months the Steering has been Notchy and freezes then releases. For part of a second, the car refuses to respond to my steering input. Very Scary and getting worse.

May 12, 2025

The issue I am having on my 2017 Honda Civic is steering issues. Especially when it is warmer, the steering sticks and is jerky when trying to keep it in a straight line. It feels very unsafe and unstable driving especially on a highway at a higher speed limit. When needing to make a slight merge, with the steering sticking, you feel it jerk when you have to merge. This has happened constantly since last summer.

Apr 23, 2025

I am experiencing the same issue described in bulletin 18-102 which covers my make, model and year but not my VIN. Honda dealership quoted the same repair as the bulletin, PS rack, at $4,471. Honda America refuses to cover any of the repair even though it is a known safety issue with both the 10th and 11th generation Honda Civics.

Apr 22, 2025

My 2017 Honda Civic has notchy/dead spot feeling in steering at wheel center at highway speeds. When this occurs, it causes the driver to overcorrect and loose lane position. It is worse on warmer days. Honda has a Recall already on later models but not early ones, they need to expand the recall. I called my closest dealer, and they said yes, they know of the problem, but my VIN is not affected. The Quote they gave me was $4200 that's crazy when they know of a problem.

Mar 1, 2025

Steering feels like it is sticking slightly left of center. Noticing it more as weather is becoming warmer. It happens at slower speeds, but is more noticeable when I’m driving at faster speeds. When making small adjustments while driving, the steering wheel seems to stick/not operate smoothly. When it gets past the sticking point, it causes oversteer, making me have to overcorrect in the opposite direction. It feels very unsafe to drive, especially at higher speeds. Upon researching, I see this is a common problem and that there are recalls within my year model for this exact issue, but, upon searching my VIN, it doesn’t seem my car is included in the recall. I’m terribly concerned that this defect in the steering is going to lead to an accident. Hopefully, since I’m seeing many of this issue reported in cars not currently included in the recall, the recall will be expanded to include all of our vehicles.

Feb 13, 2025

Steering wheel sticks and causes unexpected quick movements left and right. There is a Honda Service bulletin 18-102 however my VIN is coming back with no recall.

Feb 10, 2025

When I am driving going above 40 miles per hour, the steering wheel has a slight resistance when making minor corrections. When trying to correct direction in a lane to stay straight, the steering wheel sticks, or catches, and when you get it to move it makes a jerking motion. This is a safety concern, because I am worried that this will ultimately result in an accident as the issue gets worse. My local Honda dealer, as well as a reputable local mechanic have reproduced the issue. The issue first appeared within the last year to two years.

Feb 6, 2025

Steering is sticky. At times it takes additional force to turn. Once the additional force overcomes whatever is causing the sticking issue it results in excess steering input which has to be corrected in the opposite direction to avoid running off the road or engine another lane. Vehicle is not under warranty so I have not had it inspected. There are no warnings for the issue.

Jan 31, 2025

I have 2017 Honda Civic. March 2023 the electronic power steering was faulty, and the dealership replaced it under warranty. February of 2024, the replacement EPS rack showed signs of sticking and jerking the same manner the original EPS did. Throughout the last year, the steering sticks when driving in curves. Same local dealership that did the first replacement while it was under warranty, now cannot find anything wrong when they drive it and put it on the diagnostic machine. In freezing temperatures of 32 degrees and below, the steering doesn't stick, but temperatures above 45 degrees, the steering sticks every time in a curve. There is something wrong with these EPS racks and I believe when they replaced the original rack, they replaced it with another faulty rack and I am having the same problems and I drive in fear daily and no one is listening to us. I've read the other same exact complaints on this website regarding this issue and most of them are within the last several months. I need someone to help me before the steering rack causes me to crash.

Jan 2, 2025

The Power Steering Rack Assembly had to be replaced on my vehicle because the sensors that notify the safety systems of the direction the steering wheel is pointing failed while I was driving my son to school. The result of this failure caused a multiple system failure resulting in an inability to steer the car at speed. The Lane Keep Assist system was actively fighting against my driver input as I was driving, effectively locking the steering wheel in a stationary position. This failure not only put my and my son's life in danger but other drivers on the road as well. This could have very easily caused a severe collision considering the ability to steer a motor vehicle is arguably the most integral part of operating one. The car has decently low mileage for being 7 years old and is well-maintained. This issue occurred suddenly without any prior warning lamps, messages, etc.

Dec 21, 2024

When driving straight on a highway, probably 40+ mph, the steering wheel does not respond to small left or right adjustments to maintain a straight line. It feels like the steering wheel is sticky, and takes extra effort to break through the "stickiness." This results in an overcorrection when the steering system finally does respond. This can cause the vehicle to veer slightly into another lane or off the road. I imagine that other drivers may feel I am driving under the influence as the car weaves. The car is available for inspection, however, I have not had the vehicle into service to confirm the issue, nor has the car been inspected by any other party. No warning signs or other symptoms are present.

Dec 3, 2024

The steering on my vehicle has spots where it sticks and I have to use more force to continue. I took it to my local dealer and was told the rack and pinion assembly needed to be replaced. I was also told the part I needed was out of stock and they did not know when it would be back in stock. They said they would order the part when it became available and I have heard nothing from them. My car has 41,000 miles on it. I researched and found a recall on this issue but was told it did not apply to my car. I contacted Honda and was told they would not cover it due to the year on my car even with the low mileage. The car is not safe to drive. The longer you drive it the more it sticks .

Dec 3, 2024

Steering wheel gets sticky with slight turns; car drifts while driving highway speeds and the sticky steering causes over correction which causes vehicle to move all over the road. Research done on this shows that this is a known issue with Honda Civics and the fix is to replace the steering rack. Local dealership confirmed this.

Oct 15, 2024

I previously filed a complaint on this car about the sticky steering. I understand Honda has recalled many cars for this same problem on model years 2020-2023. Why would they not recall my 2017 civic with this very same steering issue. It IS a safety issue, especially at highway speeds.

Oct 14, 2024

Steering rack issue being sticky. Dealership has confirmed this problem BUT they are unwilling to fix this because my VIN is not apart of the recall. But I have the problem…. And it was confirm. They are unwilling to fix at covered cost.

Oct 12, 2024

Steering problem or steering sticks at high speeds causing over correction. I have had the problem since I had the car but I was finally able to look at it at the Honda dealership and they are quoting that my car needs repair. The NHTSA is reporting a recall for steering problems. I believe my car is having these issues as the steering works but keeps sticking every once in awhile. Cost to replace down below. Additional Service Repair Critical Cause EPS GEARBOX STICKING Correction REPLACE GEARBOX AND MOTOR $ 3,516.74 I will be calling Honda.

Oct 11, 2024

The has been a recall regarding AC, which I have fixed. Months later and it’s not working again. I’ve also had steering issues. Don’t know what it is exactly, but I’ve drove this car for daily commute the past 2 and half years and all of a sudden feel the need to grip my steering wheel because I don’t have full control of it like I used to

Oct 11, 2024

I heard there is a recall on newer Honda Civics and I have noticed with my car a "sticky" feeling with the steering wheel. I thought it was just me and when I read the recall this morning I thought oh my gosh that's what my car does! My car would be available for inspection. My car has not been inspected for this issue. I have not had any warning lamps due to this issue.

Oct 10, 2024

The current recall affecting 2022 to 2025 vehicles also affects my 2017 Honda Civic. This is also a common issue across Honda forums. My steering sticks, mostly when driving in a straight line or when at highway speeds on a slight left curve. This is especially unnerving when driving in rain and having to force the steering wheel to make slight steering adjustments. I paid to have my dealership perform a wheel alignment hoping this would correct the issue, but it did not help. I did not complain to the local dealership yet about this since the wheel alignment.

Oct 10, 2024

My vehicle electronic power steering system failed at 35,000. When driving, it becomes extremely difficult to turn the vehicle. I was told this issue is common among 2017 Honda vehicles, though there are recalls for only 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles, this model Honda Civic.

Sep 25, 2024

Steering feels sticky/stiff while driving on the highway in a straight line. The steering feels stuck to one side while making adjustments to either direction. This causes the car to "over steer" (not to be confused with actual oversteering the car) in the one direction. This is quite dangerous and you have to be on edge to drive on the highway.

Sep 24, 2024

The steering tends to stick when driving at highway speeds. This issue makes small steering movements jerky and causes over corrections

Sep 12, 2024

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the steering wheel failed to function as intended. The contact stated that while driving at certain speeds, the steering wheel would seize and become inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 89,681.

Mileage: 89,681

Aug 31, 2024

Steering wheel gets sticky after driving over 50mph. There is already a recall on a certain 2017 Honda civic models but it doesn’t cover my car but the steering wheel issue is still there. This is a safety issue.

Aug 14, 2024

Steering sticks and requires a jerky response to correct. Most noticeable when driving on highway but does occur during all types of driving.

Aug 13, 2024

While driving straight there is slippage in the steering that causes the driver to over compensate. Steering feels loose. I think I need to trade this vehicle in before something bad happens. Honda has very poor customer service. The dealerships are aweful and theives.

Aug 11, 2024

The steering starts to stick in place after driving for about 10-15 minutes. I was advised by my Honda dealership that the entire electronic power steering rack needs to be replaced at the cost of $3400.00

Aug 7, 2024

I’m having a problem with my steering . It’s like it’s sticky and jerky feeling when driving, causing me to have to overcorrect left or right when making slight adjustments to center. Obviously more noticeable with highway driving. Took to Honda they diagnosed it as VSA Module, got it fixed still having the same issue with sticky steering. I don’t feel safe driving my car

Jul 11, 2024

The steering is sticking and slipping when coming out of a turn. This usually occurs at speeds over 45 mph. When you start to come out of a turn, it’s as if the wheel is momentarily stuck in the turn and then slips 2 to 3 degrees. If feels like the wheel is not responding, and it’s quite frightening not knowing if the car is going to respond to the wheel. It’s hard for the technicians to duplicate, because it does not happen every time (at least for now). This is a huge safety issue that Honda needs to repair. The part was quoted at $2000, and because there are so many vehicles affected, it is on “unknown amount of time” back order. Please NHTSA do something about this.

Jun 23, 2024

The steering tends to stick when driving at highway speeds. This issue makes small steering movements jerky and causes over corrections. The dealership stated they were not able to duplicate it. This is a known issue for this generation.

Jun 21, 2024

While driving my 2017 Honda Civic, I notice that the steering wheel sticks while trying to keep the car centered. While driving, as the car needs to be slightly adjusted at the end range it sticks and I have to add a little force to get it to recorrect which causes a slight overcorrection. Honda says that it looks like I need a new rack and pinion system on my 2017 Honda with less than 60,000 miles. The sticking can be significant. Honda says while there are Recalls on steering components in the 2017 Honda Civic my vin number is not included. This has been an on-going issue for over six months.

Jun 12, 2024

Sticky steering. Steering wheel sticks in one spot causing you to over correct.

Jun 9, 2024

The steering wheel is sticky. While making directional corrections while driving, especially at highway speeds, the stickiness of the steering wheel causes you to make jercky movements causing you to over correct your cars path, which causes you to make another correction oversteering in the opposite direction. This process continues indefinitely as you drive.

Jun 8, 2024

Steering becomes locked briefly at random times while driving. dealer unable to duplicate but problem is known on Civics 2016>2021 per dealers. no recall nor TSB from Honda. no concern of issue from Honda Tech when dealer contacts about issue. Owner required to pay 100% if wants repair , but replacement steering rack assembly is same as original so sticking problem can occur again . will NHTSA inquire about problem as potential safety concern ?

Jun 6, 2024

I am experiencing sticky steering wheel. This is a known issue in Honda vehicles. It causes over correcting to right or left at all speeds, but more prominent during highway driving. Many vehicles have been recalled but for some reason my VIn isn’t listed but clearly has a defect in the steering.

Jun 2, 2024

Vehicle steering wheel will feel stiff and jerky when travellings at cruise speeds. Tendency to overcompensate corrections. Serious safety threat.

May 30, 2024

Steering wheel sticks while driving typically notice it driving on interstate so likely only when at higher speeds. Becomes difficult to maintain vehicle in straight line. There is recall on other civics for similar issue but none on my VIN. Bit of a safety concern having the vehicle difficult to steer

May 29, 2024

Steering wheel has become very "sticky". Minor steering adjustments are now very hard to make, causing a jerking motion of the wheel while just trying to maintain a straight lane. These kinds of motions can cause safety concerns for those driving the car as well as others on the road as jerky movements can result in crash. I have found several other accounts of this same issue with a very simple internet search. Seems like something Honda needs to fix.

May 25, 2024

When driving the car at highway speeds for a number of miles, the steering gets sticky making it hard to maintain lane control. When trying to make minor corrections, the steering wheel will not turn until significant force is used which causes the car to jerk sideways in the lane. This results in having to turn the wheel again to correct again resulting in fighting the steering through the whole drive. The issue is not apparent on short drives or when diving around town making frequent turns. It is only apparent when driving for many miles on the highway. Once it starts, the problem continues until the car is parked for an extended period, such as overnight.

May 25, 2024

Steering is sticky and jerky. Requires additional input to make minor corrections at highway speeds. Causes vehicle to swerve when it frees up.

May 16, 2024

My steering began sticking in the neutral position while driving. It takes some force to "break it loose" which is a bit scary while traveling down the interstate, as it makes the car drift. I have had the steering components inspected and Honda has determined the Steering Rack needs to be replaced due to sticking. There is a recall on 2017 civics, but somehow my VIN is not included. My car is doing the same thing as the existing recall on same year civics. Honda will not voluntarily fix the problem. Is there anything you can do? I have confirmation from Honda dealer that the problem exists and can provide that documentation to you upon request.

May 15, 2024

When traveling at highway speeds the steering “sticks”. This requires more force to keep the car going straight in the lane. When correcting the steering overcorrection is a hazard. Very unsafe travel at highway speeds.

May 10, 2024

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the persistent issue of "sticky steering" in my Honda Civic, which is attributable to a malfunction in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. Since the purchase of my Civc, I have experienced recurring difficulties with the steering, characterized by stiffness and unresponsiveness. This issue poses a significant safety concern as it affects the vehicle's handling and maneuverability, especially during tight turns or emergency situations. Upon investigation, it has been determined that the problem lies within the EPS system, likely due to faulty sensors, wiring issues, or malfunctioning components such as the EPS motor or control module.

May 7, 2024

Steering wheel “sticking” no matter the speed.

Apr 28, 2024

I have been having ongoing steering problems resulting in having to correct my steering when on the interstate. It has been stated as "sticky steering". My 2017 is having the same issue and it is a huge safety issue to myself and others on thr e road. I'm documenting this complaint as if something happens, I will have this for my documents .

Apr 22, 2024

My steering wheel starts almost locking into a groove when driving. It will happen after 10 minutes or so of driving and it is most noticeable like when trying to stay straight in a lane, like when trying to make minor adjustments left or right, it feels like the steering wheel will stick, causing it to jerk more in the direction I'm trying to steer, which causes slight over steering and having to correct back the other direction. It's random and usually happens on drives longer than 5 minutes, but once it starts doing it, it stays that way till I'm done driving.

Apr 16, 2024

When driving on the highway the steering wheel sticks and wants to veer to off track. The stickiness is getting worse. I have to pull harder to get past the stuck position.

Apr 15, 2024

"sticky steering" issue. The issue is momentary increase in steering effort, mostly at highway speeds causing over steering jeopardizing safety. Honda refuses to acknowledge this issue although honda has issued a recall notice for same issue , same year same model. Honda stating that my specific VIN number is not one that has been recalled although car has same issue that it's being recalled for. Repair costing about $3500 per Honda service.

While driving the steering is “sticking” and feels like there is tension while driving on a straight road and trying to keep the the vehicle straight. The tension in the steering wheel is overcome while trying to keep it straight causing the vehicle to jerk in that direction. You must react in the opposite direction to avoid collision which causes it to jerk in the other direction. It happens at all speeds and most noticeably at 40+ mph making it very concerning to drive and difficult to control the vehicle. My concern is that the vehicle will lose control completely at some point due to this issue.

Mar 30, 2024

Steering is “sticking” or momentarily locking. Going straight then initiating a turn, the steering sticks momentarily until it finally “breaks loose”. Results in over-controlling and having to do almost S-turns while trying to keep the car straight. More apt to do so at higher speeds and the traveling faster does exacerbate the over-controlling (over-steering) conditions.

Mar 28, 2024

The power steering “sticks” and “requires slight, but manual force” to free it while driving causing the car to unexpectedly lose maneuverability. It has not been inspected yet, but it is easy to confirm as it happens almost all the time.

Mar 27, 2024

Steering wheel "sticks." I has been doing it since around 40,000 miles. It has gotten worse with time. While driving in straight line after it warms up the steering wheel does not move when trying to make micro adjustments and then when it does it jerks and causes the driver to overcompensate. Makes driving very tiring and unsafe. It is difficult to keep the car driving straight when tis happens. I can see there have been recalls regarding this problem with newer Civics, like 22-23, but mine has been doing it and it is a 2017. Last time it happened was recently while my drive was driving and I was out of town on 3/15/24.

Feb 7, 2024

Honda has a recall for 2017 Civics for faulty sticking steering racks. My vehicle has experienced the same issue and I have been fighting for two years to have it fixed. Honda refuses time after time to replace the steering rack stating my VIN isn't included in the recall. The same exact part number they have recalled and continued using year after year is on my Civic. They refused assistance for two years and now state my vehicle is out of warranty and they do not want to cover the fix.

Feb 5, 2024

I am the original owner of a 2017 Honda civic ex . Recently I have been experiencing a "sticky steering wheel". When driving the car will veer to the left or right. The steering wheel feels stuck and causing over correction and erratic jerky car movements. There is also a clicking sound when moving the steering wheel out of the "stuck" position. I see this has been an ongoing problem with the Honda civics on the 2016 -2023 models with over a half million recalled in 2022 -2023. Honda of America says that there is no recall for my VIN number and until the NHTSA says so that they will not take any action for this ongoing safety problem and I will have to pay for any repairs.

My steering wheel seems to feel like it kind of locks up and is hard to release, causing me to yank slightly. It hasn't caused an incident yet, but I believe it will at some point if not checked. I'm going to get it checked out once I have some available time. I do see where 2022- 2023 have possible recalls for a similar issue that sounds exactly like what is happening on mine. This has been doing it for quite some time and doesnt seem to be improving. I only have 67000 miles on my car. Please be aware, thank you. After the car has been drive for 20 minutes on the highway, I have a problem with my steering when keeping the car on center, the steering gets sticky and a jerking feeling when adjusting the steering that causes me to overreact in the opposite direction, this occurs with the slightest adjustment of the steering wheel, obvious only when driving on the highway.

Our car is a 2017 Honda Civic. We bought it new in November 2016. While driving, it came to our attention there was something wrong with the steering of the car. Steering feels too loose and at times it locks up. We took it in to be assessed and were told the steering gearbox needed to be replaced. The car went in for repair of the steering gearbox. Encountering costly power steering rack repairs should not be expected in a car with low mileage and age.

While driving the car the steering wheel sticks and you have to use more force to turn the wheel which causes you to overcorrect and it does not feel safe. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer simply because I have read online articles seeing many other people have this problem. There were no warning lamps ever activated and the problem first occurred around 50,000 miles and has continued or even gotten worse since then.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle stability assist (VSA), the electric power steering (EPS), the TPMS and the brake warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed. The warning lights were no longer illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 50-65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact was able to continue driving by using physical force to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that he arrived at the residence, parked, and turned off the vehicle; however, upon restarting the vehicle approximately 6 hours later, the failure persisted. The vehicle stability assist (VSA), the electric power steering (EPS), and the TPMS warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

At speeds above 40 mph, the steering feels sticky to the point of using extra effort to make steering adjustments to the point of oversteering and having to make more corrections in path. At highway speeds it becomes worse to the point its hard to drive a straight line and looks like I'm driving impaired.

Aug 1, 2023

Steering feels like it is sticking. It is hard to maintain a straight line at speeds over 45 mph. It almost feels like I am trying to separate two magnets and I have to use more than normal effort to bring the car back to a straight line

Jul 28, 2023

Steering wheel is sticking or failing at highway speeds making steering corrections difficult. Seems more problematic on hotter days also noticed sticking when making turns at speeds greater than 35 mph can be hard to replicate but when it occurs oversteering easily occurs mechanic has no options other than replacing entire power steering system. Is dangerous especially when I over corrected for the sticking causing a sudden lane change

Jul 23, 2023

I recently began feeling stickiness in the steering when driving freeway speeds. When trying to make minor lane adjustments, there is resistance in the steering wheel rather than smooth motion. Extra pressure against the stickiness overcomes the issue causing a small unintended over correction. Driving then becomes a constant battle against the stickiness and correcting the over corrections. No Honda Sensing on this vehicle. Occurred while driving over 60 mph in Texas summer heat. Not sure if the issue will get worse but if it does, hard overcorrections at freeway speed can be very dangerous. The same complaint has been made many times on 10th gen civic forums with a dealership doing a complete power steering rack replacement at the customer’s expense Scheduled to take it to Honda tomorrow for replication. There are no warning lights, the vehicle has 85k miles and has only been in one minor crash affecting the left rear quarter panel only.

Jul 21, 2023

My 2017 Honda Civic 4 Door EXT has been having problems with power steering. The steering is "sticky" and tends to point the car to either left or right. There is slight resistance to returning to central driving and then jerks back towards the middle, causing the car to jerk. This often happens on the highway, after the car has been in motion, at at relatively high speed. This problem does cause some erratic driving and could put others at risk. It is a problem that has been fairly common in 2016-2022 Civic cars, and frequently discussed on websites where other drivers have reported the problem. The problem often occurs when the car has been driven over 40K miles. There are no warning lamps, messages but the car's steering does begin to get difficult. To my knowledge the problem is a slipped sensor in the power steering that has been warned out, as diagnosed by a local dealer. Honda will replace the part as an act of "good will" at a discounted price of 75% in some cases.

I have a 2017 Honda Civic 90594 miles and within the last month; I have noticed when I reach highway speeds my steering sticks as I change lanes. This is a danger to anyone who drives on highways and Interstates.

Jul 13, 2023

The steering wheel sticks just enough, when turning it, to cause an overcorrection. This is most noticeable at highway speeds. As one does when driving in a straight line you slowly make left and right corrections, this is when the sticking occurs. This is potentially extremely dangerous and should be recalled.

Jul 10, 2023

I have the already mention over internet forums as a STICKY WHEEL STEERING After half an hour more or less the steering wheel becomes resistant to move to do little adjustments and keep my driving strait, driving slow or at speed, does it. Is safety hazard because is like a stuck steering always taking the car out of the lines and you have to apply more force than normal to correct, when you unstuck it you already have to correct again because was overcorrected and have to unstuck it again and happen all the time once the car has been driven for a while.

Steering wheel jerk/sticking problem after driving 25-30 miles. A lot of tension/force needed to correct steering direction leading to over correcting.

Jul 6, 2023

I am having a problem with my 2017 Honda civic SI, it has been to a Honda service center twice now and continues to have the same problem after having the transmission speed sensor replaced twice now, there was a recall that did not affect my specific VIN but I am having the same problems listed in the recall, the service bulletin number is 18-102, I also have videos showing how the EPS (Electronic Power Steering) light appears on the cluster along with the speed displaying as 0 even though the vehicle is in motion. When the problem occurs initially the steering goes “limp” and is extremely easy to turn as if the steering assist is working too hard then after a few seconds the vehicle proceeds to jerk extremely hard to the left followed up by the speedometer displaying 0 mph, this is extremely frustrating as the car only has around 84k miles and I have only been in ownership of the vehicle for 3-4 weeks as of now (almost 3,000 miles have been put on the car.

Steering wheel sticks when driving, especially when turning left. This issue has been ongoing for years. I've brought it to the dealer but we couldn't replicate the issue at the dealership. It doesn't feel safe when driving and seems to happen when the outside temperature is high. I believe it's either the anti lock system or the steering rack needs to be replaced. No warning lights come on. The dealer said there is a pending review for recall for this issue.

Jun 27, 2023

This car has 56,817 miles and in just the last 500 miles or so, we have noticed that the steering wheel seems to get “sticky” or “notchy” after driving for longer drives—maybe over 20-30 minutes. I don’t notice it on my short 10 minute drive to work. It seems to happen while driving straight. The steering wheel seems to get stuck making little steering adjustments jerky and causing frequent overcorrections instead of smooth steering. It’s annoying to a little unsettling, especially at higher speeds. I haven’t had it checked at the dealer but am an import auto mechanic of over 25 years.

Jun 27, 2023

My 2017 Honda civic has been having steering issues for a while. It’s very hard to keep straight on a highway and it feels like my steering is sticking when trying to correct myself in a lane on highway. No warning lights on the dash or anything like that. The problem started off minor and not noticeable but now it’s really bad to where I’m swerving left and right on the highway trying to keep straight but it’s almost impossible. It makes me feel unsafe and uncomfortable when driving. It almost feels like I’m going to get pulled over for looking like a drunk driver. I took the car to my local car Honda dealership and explained my problem to them and also told them my opinion saying it might be a steering rack issue since I see multiple problems that people post online with the same generation Civic. So they take my car in and run some test and say my car is all good and that they couldn’t replicate the problem. I think the most they did was align my car again which wasn’t really off. I take my car back and started driving for another week until I took the car back to Honda to see if they could take a look again because it just didn’t feel right. The second time I took it, same thing. Told me they couldn’t recreate the problem. I’m not sure if they checked the steering rack or not because I wasn’t told that they did and I’m assuming they didn’t because they would have to drop the whole front subframe. At that point I honestly didn’t know what to do. I tried taking it to a different shop (pep boys) to see if they could find anything and they couldn’t.

2017 Honda Civic experiences random reduced steering maneuverability while driving. Steering wheel becomes briefly stuck in one direction while turning, usually requiring over-steering to correct the issue. Steering wheel becomes less responsive and difficult to turn. Vehicle is available for inspection. Problem has not been confirmed by dealership. No lights or messages displayed on dash or digital console.

Jun 19, 2023

At high speeds (over 55mph) the steering feels notchy and sticky. While making a long highway turn my steering wheel will stick turning in that direction until I correct. I do not have lane assist tech on board but this needs to solved. It’s inconsistent which could potentially proved to be dangerous or fatal. I just noticed this at 117k miles but have seen reports of some lower mileage. I’m scared to drive my vehicle.

Jun 12, 2023

The steering on my 2017 Honda Civic frequently sticks while driving making it difficult to steer. I purchased the used vehicle along with an extended warranty from Carvana in 2020. I noticed the stickiness in the steering after having the vehicle for a week and I took the vehicle to an independent service center to have the issue repaired in 2020. They were unable to diagnose the problem and the stickiness persisted intermittently (about 50%- 60% of the time while driving). Since then, the frequency of intermittent stickiness in the steering has increased (about 90%-95% of the time while driving). I am concerned about the risk of an accident on an interstate or highway while traveling at speeds in excess of 55 mph. When steering around an extended curve or corner on the road, the steering will stick and I have to jerk the steering wheel in the opposite direction to unstick the steering and course-correct. This causes the vehicle to swerve a bit and affects the handling of the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Jun 12, 2023

1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? ANS: The steering sticks. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANS: By overcompensating when changing lanes. This condition arises on Interstate driving. It has happened since I bought the car. Would have to research dates and mileage. Date/mileage shown below is approximate. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANS: Not to my knowledge. I mentioned it to Honda Cars of Katy 6/1/23. 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANS: No. Honda does not acknowledge a problem. 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANS: No. There are no warning signals when this occurs.

Jun 3, 2023

I have noticed that the electronic power steering catches from time to time. This causes a safety hazard because more force is applied to get the steering back to normal when the steering catches. I have read that this is an issue with many Honda vehicles, but no recall has been made. I feel like this is a huge safety issue, and Honda should replace all electronic power steering that has this issue.

May 31, 2023

my power steering goes out all of a sudden and now I cannot steer my car.

Apr 19, 2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Steering, yes available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes, the steering gets "stuck" in position while driving and takes extra force to "break" it free and regain control. At first it was only noticeable ay highway speeds but now it is noticeable on regular road ways. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has not been seen by dealer because out of warranty and I feel this should be a recalled item. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights or messages appear.

Apr 2, 2023

Steering wheel feels like it sticks at center. When you try to make a minor adjustment, you need to use excess force to break the hold. That's causes the car to jerk into an over steer and you have to jerk it quickly back to correct. This can be very dangerous and put you in bad situations constantly.

Mar 21, 2023

At highway speeds and after longer periods of driving (>20-30 minutes) the steering becomes stuck in position until excess force is applied, leading to over-correction, and I believe this is a safety concern. This problem has been observed widely when searching online. The vehicle has not been inspected, is out of warranty, is available for inspection upon request, and no messages or other symptoms appeared. This problem first appeared in 2020 and persists when different tires and wheels are mounted.

Mar 3, 2023

When trying to keep the vehicle traveling straight, the steering seems to stick and then suddenly release once more force is applied to the steering wheel. This causes an over correction in steering and requires the driver to quickly correct in the opposite direction to avoid going in to the next lane.

Feb 18, 2023

On February 5th I was taking my car out to the grocery store. All of a sudden my lights turned on and as soon as I'm going up the hill, going back home the car starts to shake uncrontrollably. I check my car under the hood toes what is going on, all of my wiring had been damaged, even the battery was damaged. I later bought the new wiring and and battery and had it replaced. After a few days at the mechanic I was able to get my car back but the mechanic said that due to the fact of the material that Honda is making their wiring which is the soy bean material, animal love to eat from that it has been something that he has seen for quite some time. Anyway I thought it might've been from the location of where I parked the night before when I had to go outside of town because I always park right in front of my house and its the first time. February 17th, I was pulling out of my parking spot and noticed that my car wasn't breaking as it should be so therefore I stopped the car and opened my door and immediately when I look under the hood I knew animals had gotten into from the pile of leaves and sticks on top of of everything and afterwards the car just turned off all by itself. I am now experiencing the exact same thing which puts my life at risk because the car just stops working mid ride and I could be on a whole highway and cause a collision. If they know that this is something that animals look for to eat I think that it is not safe to use for a car cause I could have been in danger for both these events if I were to be on the highway and my car just decided to stop functioning I could've been in a different circumstances,

I believe the issue I'm about to explain is with the EPS Rack Assembly. I am deeply concerned for my safety and the safety of other riding in my vehicle as it is difficult sometimes to keep the vehicle on the road due to the steering sticking at random times. MANY other 2016+ Honda Civic owners are experiencing this problem as there are several forums currently viewed on the internet discussing this issue. When driving the vehicle, the steering wheel "sticks" in one spot when turning and sometimes takes a considerable force to break the steering wheel free. This issue seems to happen after the car/engine is warm (20-30 minutes into driving). This problem started out as minor and sporadic, but has become much worse in the past month or so. I will be making an appointment with my local Honda dealer for evaluation.

Jan 7, 2022

The steering on this car is very dangerous. After driving for 30 or 40 minutes the wheel sticks and must be brought back to center manually or car will leave the road or change lanes. This is hard to diagnose for technician. They all say there’s no problem because it’s intermittent. There is no warning lights. The faster you go the problem gets worse , very bad on the interstate highway.

Jan 1, 2022

I am reaching out regarding an issue in my 2017 Honda Civic EX-T. Over the past few months, I have noticed that the steering wheel seems to "stick" or feel "notchy" when making small adjustments from center (12 o clock) position. This is most noticeable when driving on a long, straight stretch of freeway requiring minor adjustments to keep the car centered. The steering will stick when attempting to making small corrections, requiring extra force to overcome resistance. After providing more force, the steering will suddenly give way, typically causing overcorrection in the opposite direction. As a result, I have to weave back and forth in my lane to keep the car straight. This issue is most pronounced when the ambient temperature is hot, and the car has been driven for at least 20-30 minutes. Interestingly, the issue will disappear if the weather is cooler or if the car is driven for short distances in the city. I have brought the car to a shop before, but they were unable to reproduce the issue. It is hard to reproduce because the car needs to be driven for 20-30 minutes, preferably on the highway, before the steering stiffness occurs. It appears that this is a well-known issue at this point, and I have seen multiple reports online about the issue. From what I understand, the only fix at this point is to replace the EPS steering rack (part 53650-TBC-A02). However, it seems that some people have had the issue reoccur even after replacing the rack. I believe this issue is a major safety concern. The steering becomes unpredictable when driving in a straight line. I am forced to constantly overcorrect and weave back and forth when driving on the highway at 70+ mph, thus dramatically increasing the risk of an accident. There needs to be some sort of safety recall for this issue, as it seems to be a manufacturer issue with the EPS motor that has affected several vehicles.

Oct 22, 2021

ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING (EPS): The EPS works fine when turning, but when going straight, especially over 40 mph, it will "stick" a bit. That is to say it will take a considerable effort to overcome the stiffness for a small correction in steering direction. This problem is found to be more critical when driving with close oncoming traffic.

Jul 29, 2021

There is an issue with the steering on my 2017 Civic. I noticed it several months ago and I believe it has gotten worse. The problem is most noticeable at highway speeds when the temperature is over 75 degrees. The problem is that if the steering wheel has been in the same position for several seconds, it tends to stick in that position and requires slightly more force to turn the wheel. I have found other reports of the problem on the internet along with a video of the problem at https://www.civicforums.com/forums/319-interior/370344-2016-honda-civic-lx-steering-wheel-sticky-stiff-jerky.html A video of the problem is at https://youtu.be/w5x_CaVHXmM This has not resulted in an accident. I have not taken it to a Honda dealer for diagnosis yet. The problem is reproducible.

When driving on highways the steering has a catch/ jerk when making any tracking movement. It causes a jerk movement anytime you try to even slightly change your position in your lane. No warning lights are showing.

AFTER THIS, I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT OF MY FOB AND NOW THE CAR BATTERY IS DEAD. I POWERED UP THE BATTERY TODAY BUT THE CAR WON'T START. THE DASH TURNS ON BUT THEN IT JUST FLICKERS AND GIVES ME ALL THE SAME WARNING SIGNS. WHILE IN MOTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AND EVEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS OF 25-45 MPH THE CAR WILL SWAY LEFT TO RIGHT AND I WILL OVERCOMPENSATE TO CORRECT THE SWAY. IT WILL START TO PULL RIGHT WHEN I SLOWLY TRY TO CORRECT IT BY SHIFTING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. AS A RESULT IT WILL JERK SHARPLY CAUSING A LOOP OF CORRECTIONS LEAVING MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS FEELING UNSAFE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR MONTHS. IVE TRIED ADJUSTING THE WHEEL NUMEROUS TIMES TO SEE IF IT WAS AN ERGONOMICAL ISSUE BUT TO NO AVAIL.

WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE FREEWAY THE STEERING STICKS WHILE MAKING SMALL CORRECTIONS TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT IN THE LANE. ITS A CATCHY FEELING CAUSING ME TO OVERCOMPENSATE AFTER IT CATCHES/STICKS. ALSO WHEN SITTING STILL WAITING FOR A STOP LIGHT THE STEERING SEEMS TO JUMP A NOTCH BY ITSELF.

WHEN DRIVING AT OVER 50 WHEN IT'S OVER 80 DEGREES. THE STEERING ACTS UP! WHEN TRY TO ADJUST A LITTLE BIT IT RESIST AND THEN LET'S GO SLIGHTLY. IT MAKES YOU OVER STEER A BIT. IT'S NOT A COMFORTING THING WHEN IT KEEPS DOING THAT! I FOUND ONLINE THAT THERE IS SUPPOSED TO GET A RECALL FOR STEERING ASSIST. THE MAGNET HAS COME LOOSE AND OUT OF PLACE AND CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN! PLEASE LOOK IN TO THIS PROBLEM!

THE VEHICLE, AFTER BEING DRIVEN THE DAY PRIOR WITHOUT ISSUES OR ANY ENGINE LIGHTS, WILL NOT START THE NEXT MORNING. THE ONLY ENGINE LIGHT THAT IS ON IS THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING LIGHT. WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR, THE BATTERY DOESN'T EVEN CLICK. I EVEN JUMPED THE BATTERY TO REINFORCE THE IDEA THAT THIS IS LIKELY NOT RELATED TO THE BATTERY - STILL NO CLICKING. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL ON 2017 HONDA CIVICS FOR THE SAME ISSUE - THE EPS SYSTEM. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC, AND WHEN I CALLED HONDA TO INQUIRE ABOUT MY VEHICLE, THEY TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE OTHER RECALLED HONDA CIVICS, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY SPECIFIC CIVIC WAS NOT BEING RECALLED FOR THIS MATTER. FOR A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, WITH NO ACCIDENTS, SOMETHING AS SIGNIFICANT AS AN EPS FAILURE SHOULD BE HANDLED MORE SERIOUSLY. THIS KIND OF FAILURE, IF OCCURRING DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, COULD RESULT IN MAJOR AUTO ACCIDENTS.

MY 2017 HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK, WITH 13,015 MILES ON IT, WAS IN MY CARPORT AND HAD ONLY BEEN SITTING 2 DAYS WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AND THE CAR BEGAN THROWING WARNINGS OF ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS HAVING PROBLEMS. FOR EXAMPLE THE TPMS, ELECTRIC PARKING BREAK, BRAKE SYSTEM, ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, HILL START ASSIST AND MORE. AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO SURPRISE HONDA (BIG MISTAKE) AND THEY SAW THAT MY HARNESS (PART NUMBER 53682-TSA-A01) WAS CHEWED BY RODENTS WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HONDA SAYS AND KNOWS THIS WIRING IS MADE FROM SOY BASED MATERIAL WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS. HONDA EVEN HAS A SPECIAL SPICY TAPE, WHICH THEY CHARGE FOR AS WELL, THAT THEY CAN USE TO WRAP THE WIRING TO DETER THE RODENTS (WHICH THE SERVICE MGR SAID REALLY DOESN'T WORK.) HONDA SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED THE WIRING AND IT COST ME 370.00 DOLLARS. THE PART ITSELF WAS ONLY 20.00 DOLLARS. IT IS 108 DEGREES OUTSIDE THE RODENTS ARE NOT GOING INTO MY ENGINE TO KEEP WARM!! THE SOY BASE WIRING IS ATTRACTING THEM TO DO THE DAMAGE. HONDA AND THEIR DEALERSHIP WERE OF NO HELP WHATSOEVER EXCEPT TO MAKE MONEY OFF A POOR CHOICE IN THEIR SOY BASE WIRING.

MY HONDA CIVIC 2017 CAR WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY NOT MOVING WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AND ALL MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO HONDA AND THEY SAW THAT MY SUB WIRING HARNESS WAS CHEWED WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HONDA SAYS THIS WIRING IS MADE FROM SOY BASED MATERIAL WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS. THEY REPLACED THE WIRING AND IT COST ME 268.00 DOLLARS. THE PART ITSELF WAS ONLY 28.00 DOLLARS. THIS THEN HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN EXACTLY 2 WEEKS LATER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AGAIN. THIS TIME I FOUND OUT THERE IS A FIX FOR THIS. A SPICY TAPE THAT HONDA MAKES THAT CAN BE WRAPPED AROUND THE WIRING TO RESIST RODENTS I DON'T KNOW HOW EFFECTIVE THIS IS.THEY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE THE TAPE.. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO SINCE THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN GOING ON THE 2ND DAY. THER IS A CLASS ACTION SUITE THAT WAS FILED FOR THIS VERY SAME REASON. THIS DATES ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2010 I WAS TOLD.

THIS IS A 5-DOOR HATCHBACK IN EX TRIM BOUGHT NEW 12/2016. WITHIN 2 WEEKS ELECTRICAL ISSUES STARTED, FROM XM TUNER GOING OUT TO MAIN HEADUNIT GOING OUT ON A INTERMITTANT BASIS. THIS DISABLES ALL AUDIO, BLUETOOTH, CLIMATE CONTROLS, BACK-UP CAMERA, & LANEWATCH. "CHECK TUNER" SHOWS BRIEFLY OFTEN. OCCURS EVEN WHEN DRIVING. DEALER UNABLE TO DUPLICATE, BECAUSE OF THIS HONDA REFUSES REPAIR. TPMS ALERT DISPLAYS FREQUENTLY, AFTER A TIRE EVEN A WHEEL REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. PER DEALER & HONDA TECH ALL 4 SHOULD BE MATCHING SET @ TIME OF SERVICE, OR DEALER CAN ATTEMPT HARD RESET. SOFTWARE UPDATE RECENTLY DONE FOR THIS. TOLD TO BRING BACK TO DEALER IF/WHEN TPMS LIGHTS UP AGAIN. KNOWN POOR ANDROID AUTO PERFORMANCE & APPLE CARPLAY NON-FUNCTION, NO REPAIR AT THIS TIME (SOFTWARE ISSUES). "CHRISTMAS TREE" DISPLAY - NO ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, ELECTRIC STEERING, AIRBAG MALFUNCTION, ETC ETC. NO LONG-TERM RESOLUTION, PER DEALER "SOFTWARE ISSUES". GROANING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEELS LEFT OR RIGHT FROM STOP, PER DEALER & HONDA TECH "NORMAL OPERATION". SUNROOF GLASS BREAKAGE IS AT OWNER EXPENSE, NOT A WARRANTY COVERAGE ITEM. ENGINE SHAKES/SHUDDERS ON START, AGAIN "NORMAL OPERATION" PER DEALER & HONDA TECH. POOR HORN PERFORMANCE, PER DEALER ONLY A SINGLE LOW NOTE HORN INSTALLED. NOT LOUD ENOUGH TO BE HEARD EASILY. OWNER EXPENSE TO UPGRADE TO BETTER (LOUDER) UNIT. ELECTRICAL GLITCHES STILL ONGOING ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW, VEHICLE HAS 20,000 MILES. THIS 10TH GEN CIVIC NOT RELIABLE & MAY PROVE A SAFETY CONCERN LONG-TERM. AM UNABLE TO AFFORD REPLACING THIS VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN LARGELY INDIFFERENT TOWARDS THESE ISSUES, CITING "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE" EVEN "SOFTWARE ISSUES".

WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL AT 180 DEGREES, GRINDING NOISES WERE HEARD. I RETURNED THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT MY LEFT AXLE WAS FAILING. ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 8 MONTHS BRAND NEW. ABOUT 2 AND HALF WEEKS LATER, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT STIFF AND THE GRINDING NOISE RETURNED WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT 180 DEGREES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AGAIN AND NOW I WAS BEING TOLD THAT BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT AXELS NEED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, HONDA WARRANTY ONLY COVERS ONE AXEL TO REPLACED AT A TIME. NOW, I HAVE TO GO BACK THE FOLLOWING WEEK TO HAVE MY LEFT AXEL REPLACED AGAIN AS IT IS 'PRE-FAILING' NOW.
