We got notified of the recall by mail in early 2024. We called the Honda dealership in our locality, First Texas Honda (3400 Steck Ave, Austin, TX 78757) about it and they said the parts weren't available yet, and was estimated to be ready by Fall 2024. In July 2024, we were driving on a highway and the accelerator stalled as we reached 80 mph, with the check engine light flashing. Cars around us had to swoosh left and right to avoid colliding with our stalled car. By extreme luck we were able to use the car's momentum to safely exit the highway. Upon restarting the car, power was restored and the check engine light didn't illuminate again. There was slight shuddering in low gears. We made an appointment at the same First Texas Honda mentioned above to fix the problem, but after inspection they insisted that the problem was caused by loose battery cable unrelated to the fuel pump recall. Charged us $225 for the inspection and denied to replace the recalled part. Their predatory practice should be illegal and we are so disappointed in the system.

I own a 2018 Honda Civic. On August 4, 2025, I brought the vehicle to Honda of Greenbelt in Maryland for a fuel pump replacement required by a service recall. Immediately after this repair, the vehicle began producing a strong fuel odor, and after refueling, the smell persists for several days each time I add gas. This issue did not exist prior to the repair. I contacted American Honda customer service to request assistance and to ask whether I could have the vehicle serviced at a different Honda dealership, since the issue appears to have been caused by the original repair. A case manager was assigned, but despite multiple calls and several voicemails, I have received no response or follow-up. All responses from American Honda customer service have been generic email acknowledgments, and no substantive assistance or resolution has been provided despite my repeated attempts to contact the assigned case manager. Because the fuel odor consistently appears after refueling, I am concerned the repair may have resulted in a leak or improper installation involving the fuel pump or related components. The entire fuel delivery system should be thoroughly re-checked to ensure there are no leaks or safety hazards. This presents a clear safety risk, including the potential for fire. I am requesting that this matter be formally reviewed due to the ongoing fuel-system safety concern and Honda’s lack of meaningful response.

P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected, diagnosis concluded fuel injector is faulty, the rest are to follow the same path. Vehicle hesitation happened during highway traffic driving.

The recall for my 2018 Honda Civic EX-L (VIN: [XXX] ) was completed at the Honda service center in Santee. I have contacted both Honda corporate and the service center, and each time I was told the recall would be cleared, but it is still showing as *open* on the NHTSA site. Because of this, the car cannot pass the required Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection, blocking registration. The bank is holding loan funds for the sale and may cancel the loan due to the delay. I am requesting immediate action to have the recall status updated. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to report an issue with a recall for my [Year, Make, Model, VIN]. The recall has been completed, and I have contacted both the Honda corporate office and the service center in [XXX] regarding the status. However, the recall is still not showing as completed on the NHTSA site. This delay is preventing the vehicle from passing the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection, which is required to finalize registration. The bank is holding funds for the sale, and there is a risk that the loan may be canceled if the registration cannot be completed. I am requesting urgent assistance to ensure the recall status is updated so the vehicle can pass inspection and the transaction can proceed. I own a 2018 Honda Civic that is subject to an open fuel pump recall. My vehicle suddenly became completely inoperable. When attempting to start the car, all of the dashboard lights come on, but the engine will not start or crank. The vehicle has power but will not turn over at all. This failure happened without any prior warning. I contacted Nalley Honda in Union City, GA, and they confirmed that the issue is related to the fuel pump recall. However, they refused to provide towing for the vehicle and told me the earliest appointment available would be over a week out, despite the vehicle being undrivable due to this known safety defect. This situation puts my safety and my family’s safety at risk, as I am now stranded without reliable transportation because of a manufacturer defect. The problem has been acknowledged by the dealership but has not been resolved because of their refusal to assist with towing or provide a timely repair. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure—this happened suddenly. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue further, as it presents a serious safety concern. I also want to report that Honda has not provided towing assistance or a loaner vehicle while the safety recall repair is pending, which leaves me without any transportation.

Honda issued a recall for the fuel pump system. Initially, when the recall came out, I contacted them about the recall they stated that the parts were on back order and they had a waiting list of people who were supposed to be serviced first. It took about five months for the parts to come back into stock and another month for me to get an appointment. Now I’m continuing to have issues with my fuel line

Needs Fuel pump replacement

Jan 12, 2025

There has been a recall for the fuel pump of my Year: 2018 Make: Honda Model: Civic Sedan, however I have continuously reached out to various Honda service and was told the part is still unable. Based on the recall information, If the fuel pump module is inoperative, the engine may not start or can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Does it take for an injury or death for me and my loved ones for me to finally get the part repaired at Honda's cost?

Jan 5, 2025

My car engine light has been on for months and im unable to get a inspection because of my fuel pump recall. My car has stalled multiple times on the road and is a cery serious safety issue. I have contacted honda multiple times about this and they keep saying they do not have the parts its been well over a year since i have received this recall notice and over 6-7 months since my engine light has been on. I have also received a letter from honda saying the parts are in stock and to call to make an appointment but when i do they still claim they do bot have the part in stock

Dec 10, 2024

Safety recall #23V-858 received through USPS indicating that parts are now available at dealership. Not true. On 12/04/24 vehicle was serviced at Conicelli Honda, 1200 Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428. 610-832-1400. Service advisor advised that the safety recall parts are not available for installation. On 12/05/24 a follow up call received from the service manager indicated that Conicelli Honda has not received any safety recall parts since the notice was announced. There appears to be a disconnect between Corporate Honda and the dealership. Your attention with this matter is greatly appreciated. It's been a year and my dealership still does not have the part needed to fix the issue from the recall on my vehicle. I do not feel safe operating my vehicle and this is my only means of transpiration. I rely on my car to get me to work and everywhere else.

Nov 15, 2024

I was informed of recall on my 2018 Honda Civic. I have called my local dealership - Lees Summit Honda, since receiving the recall notification. I was told there was a national shortage on parts and my vehicle could not be fixed and to call back next month. I have been calling monthly since receiving the recall notification. I just received an "Important Safety Recall" notice in the mail from Honda detailing the safety consequences of not repairing my vehicle and advising "parts are now available and you can bring your vehicle in for a free repair." I again called my local Honda dealership and was told the parts are not available. I advised that I have been experiencing an acceleration issue after slowing down, such as when I slow down to make a turn. I was told that I could bring my vehicle in for diagnostic but if it is the recall issue they have to keep my car for safety. They do not have loaner vehicles but offered a rental for $50/day and no indication how long it would be before my vehicle would be repaired. Currently I have been waiting 10+ months (300+ days). If the repair takes another 300 days that would cost me $15,000 plus my monthly car payment. I believe Honda is encouraging people NOT to bring in their vehicles for repair, instead to continue driving a vehicle with known safety concerns.

Nov 15, 2024

Received safety recall in mail for fuel pump module. Letter from 10/2024 says that "parts are now available and you can bring your vehicle in for a free repair." Called Honda Oakland to get part replaced. Honda Oakland worker Colin said letter is incorrect, that no parts are available and to wait for another letter in mail. Called San Leandro Oakland because thought that Colin's comment was strange. Letter already says "parts are now available." It wouldn't make sense for me to wait for another letter. Turns out Colin from Honda Oakland provided misinformation, which could have gotten me into a car accident waiting for another letter that would never come and waiting for months and months to get my fuel pump replaced. Thankfully, confirmed with San Leandro Oakland that parts are available and ok to take car in immediately. Honda Oakland needs to provide correct info to customers, and not tell them to "wait for another letter." They should have just said to check with another dealership if they didn't have the part available. Although, it's strange they don't have the part available, when the Recall Letter I received says "parts are now available." Please contact Honda Oakland to stop misinforming customers to "wait for another letter in the mail," which doesn't even make sense, since I already got a letter saying parts available. Dangerous comment to customers. Perhaps Honda Oakland just doesn't want to deal with recalls? Need to file this complaint to protect other customers who might have listened to Colin and waited several more months for another letter that would never come. They should just tell customer to check with another dealership.

When I got the car, my insurance made me aware of the recall and I asked them if it was fixed they said yes but that was not the case, they straight lied to my face about something that could danger my life and the life of others

Nov 11, 2024

This was such a strange occurance. After pulling off from a stop sign attempting a right turn, my vehicle stalled, readjusted, then stalled again. I was driving on a cobblestone road while it was raining, but did not find any issues with vision or traction. However, during this process, my passenger airbag deployed out of nowhere causing me to immediately stop the car to see if I had hit something. There was nothing under or beside my car indicating any significant impact that would have caused this to happen. There were no other cars, or any pedestrians involved, nor any debris or blockade in the road so I did not file a police report or contact my insurace. My sister was in the passenger seat, and my 3 children in the back. No one sustained any injuries, but the entire incident was extremely startling, shocking, and confusing. There is no damage on my car that suggests I hit something, but I have no idea what could have caused an airbag to deploy, and why only that one? Being that I was pulling off on a turn, I was not going fast enough for me to think that the cobblestone could have set off a "pothole like" effect to the sensors. After research revealed there have been recalls on previous models concerning the Takata airbags, I reached out to a local Honda dealer for help. The associate immediately disregarded my account of the incident stating that "there hasn't been any recalls on the 2018 Honda Civic" and that I should "take it to a body shop and see if the insurance will take care of it". I assumed he had no intention of helping me AT ALL because I had reached the service department with a Honda service issue, so why would he not at least offer to have me bring it in to be fix there, even if I had to pay out of pocket? This lead me to do further research in which I found that there is in fact a current recall on the fuel pump, which is known to cause issues with stalling. I feel misled by Honda, and would like an explanation, as well as accountability.

Nov 9, 2024

Honda is failing to resolve the safety recall on my 2018 Civic in a timely fashion. Despite notifying me in February 2024 of an issue related to a faulty fuel pump module, no dealership in my local area was able to make a replacement due to a lack of parts. I received a second notice in October 2024 that parts are now available, yet local dealerships are telling me that they either don't know when parts will be shipped out by Honda or that I'll have to wait until December. As mentioned in the recall, this can lead to various problems such as the engine not starting, vehicle stalling while driving, increased risk of crashing, and emission issues.

Nov 8, 2024

I received a Recall notice in the mail dated October 2024. The notice sent to inform me that these parts are now available and I can bring my vehicle in for a free repair. I scheduled my repair appointment on 11/08/2024 at 7am to John Hinderer Honda in Heath, OH 43056. When I arrived they told me they have not received any parts. They don’t know when they will receive them. The service department did acknowledge that they had some parts but were saving them for any breakdowns. I found this recall letter misleading. I have attached this letter to this complaint.

Nov 4, 2024

Several occasions between September, and now the car had difficulty starting. I towed it to two different Hondas, Bowie, darcas and Honda in Silver Spring and nobody was able to help me even though they claim to have done diagnostics on the car.

Nov 2, 2024

Engine began misfiring and would deliver inconsistent power. The fuel injector was faulty and leaked gas into the engine oil.

Oct 24, 2024

I called Honda as part of the recall issued on 12/13/2023. But they said they don't have the parts to honor my recall issue.

Oct 17, 2024

It has been 10 months since I was first notified of this fuel pump recall from Honda. The Honda dealership in Bel Air, Maryland still has not received the replacement parts from Honda to correct this problem. What is this delay? This is a serious problem and safety risk. I drive 500 miles a week.

Oct 14, 2024

Replacement for fuel pump unavailable. Issue not able to be resolved timely. I'm on a waitlist for the replacement part indefinitely (coming up on 1 year since recall was announced).

Oct 2, 2024

After the recent fuel pump recall repair, there has been a smell of gasoline for about a month, bad enough that it seems unsafe to keep the car in the garage. (There is no smell of gasoline inside the car.) Fuel mileage has consistently been about 2 mpg lower. The problem is especially bad after refueling, and gradually gets better as the tank empties. The problem returns with the next refueling. There seem to be many cars in the same situation. There is inadequate work dealing with this recall, and dealers are not fixing what they broke, despite the hazard.

Aug 29, 2024

My 2018 Honda Civic is presenting with issues related to another safety recall, but my Vin doesn't come up for that recall. I got diagnostics done for this issue at a Honda certified dealership, the wanted over $5600 to repair the safety recall issue because my Vin doesn't come up for that specific recall- only one of the safety recalls, which they do not have parts for. I got a second opinion with another mechanic who confirmed that what's going on with my car is a recall safety issue on Honda's part, not my own. My car is not safe to drive due to a rack and pinion safety issue and a fuel pump issue and the safety issues have gotten worse. Others and my own safety is put at risk because the car doesn't have a lot of power to maneuver the vehicle safely as well as the steering locking up. My vehicle shows no lights on the dash.

Aug 28, 2024

Honda issues a recall on my vehicle in Feb 2024, for months they keep telling me they do not have the parts. I had to move back to Canada and now I can't register the vehicle in Canada because it has an open recall that they can not fix until end of this year or start of 2025.

Aug 25, 2024

Vehicle is stalling and not moving forward when pressing accelerator, resulting in almost getting hit at intersection on [XXX] in Ogden Utah at intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] [XXX] When starting vehicle, the engine turns over and won't start for several attempts and then randomly starts when tapping accelerator. I believe my vehicle has a bad Fuel Pump and needs to be replaced in accordance with NHTSA 23V-858. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Jul 24, 2024

I was stranded on the road after filling up gas my car would not start due to the fuel pump recall I tried calling different Honda dealerships for the recall and they all said they didn’t have it due to back order. Is there something that can be done so my car doesn’t have anymore damage then it does now?

Jul 9, 2024

Multiple misfires and rich fuel codes. Car losses acceleration at high speeds creating safety issue. Faulty fuel injectors. No current recall. Vehicle goes into limp mode.

Jul 1, 2024

I have scheduled and attended several appointments to have my fuel pump replaced as per the recall. The only dealership that is within 20 miles of my home (El Paso Honda 1490 Lee Trevino, 79936) keeps refusing to do the replacement. I have expressed that my engine is losing power when going uphill and when driving on I-10. They refuse because the check engine light isn't on. This recall has been in effect since last year and the dealership keeps blaming Honda stating they cannot order the part unless the check engine light is on.

Jun 25, 2024

I have a recall for the fuel pump and the dealership is refusing to do the repair , it’s been 6 months

May 31, 2024

I believe the dealer/manufacturer has failed to remedy the fuel pump module improperly molded impeller in a timely manner. On [XXX] and [XXX] I had incidents of my vehicle's engine being prevented from starting. An independent mechanic stated that this was likely related to my vehicle's fuel pump recall. I contacted Honda customer service shortly after the [XXX] incident by telephone and I was told that unless a Honda mechanic diagnosed my issue as definitively related to the fuel pump, there was no recourse to expedite the repair. I was not assured that there would be no diagnostic charge associated with the inspection by a Honda repair person. Following the [XXX] incident, I contacted Nucar Honda in Norwood, MA to attempt to expedite the repair for my vehicle. I was told to bring in the vehicle several days later. The week of April 16 I brought the vehicle in and was told I would need to pay a diagnostic charge if they did not find a fuel pump issue in my vehicle, which is not what the recall specialist had said. I left and following consultation with the recall specialist the next day, I returned with my vehicle in hopes of expediting the recall repair for my vehicle. At that point and following my additional calls on [XXX] and in the following days, I was told that the safety recall repair parts were still not readily available and would likely be ready "at the end of the summer" or "best case scenario at the end of July." As I have contacted Honda and the local dealership since the end of January/beginning of February 2024 for a safety recall repair that is estimated to be available only half a year later, this is outside what is noted by the NHTSA as a reasonable amount of time. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

May 26, 2024

I was first informed that there was a recall (23V-858) on my 2018 Honda Civic for a fuel pump module back in December 2023. When no information came from Honda as to when the dangerous problem would be repaired, I was informed by the dealership that the repairs could start as early as April of 2024. It is now the end of May and there still no word on when the Honda dealer will have the parts to repair the defect. It has been 6 months since the recall with no further information nor cooperation from Honda on when this issue will be resolved.

May 24, 2024

This is in regards to the open recall on my vehicle. The dealership is not able to perform the repair because they say they do not have enough replacement parts from Honda. They're only accepting customers who are experiencing a problem to do the repairs. This is unacceptable for a recall. I shouldn't have to wait til my car breaks, and potentially crash, in order to get a recall issue repaired. The recall number is NHTSA#: 23V-858 MFR#: MGL / 23V-858

May 23, 2024

vehicle has stalled or almost stalled several times. Twice almost resulting in what could have been a fatal accident. we received the recall letter a few months ago and have waited for the repair. last week received another letter basically stating the same thing with no timeline or actual schedule at all in sight. have called the dealerships and they have no information (actually wanted me to bring in the car for a "diagnosis" at a cost to me to tell me what we all already know....ridiculous. How do I get this fixed before it turns into something fatal? in the meantime no offer of replacement or rental vehicle is out there. How do we get this expedited? already several months have passed with no solution. Help

May 23, 2024

I was first informed that there was a recall on my 2018 Honda Civic for a fuel system problem back in December 2023. When no information came from Honda USA as to when the dangerous problem would be repaired, I was told by the dealership that the repair would be completed at the latest by April. It is now the end of May and there still no word on when the Honda dealer will have the parts to repair the defect. The contact stated Honda finally fixed the 2018 Civic's faulty fuel pump.

May 3, 2024

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000(Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the parts for the recall are not yet unavailable. The dealer nor the manufacturer have yet to be notified about the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The contact had yet to be experience a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not yet available.

Apr 9, 2024

My vehicle will no longer start and after inspection from a mechanic, it was determined that the fuel pump was the cause. There was no indication of any issue besides not starting. I am now being told by my local dealership that they will not have replacement parts until the fall and they are unable to provide a loaner during this time, leaving me without a vehicle for an unknown amount of time.

Mar 31, 2024

Fuel injectors are failing in my 2018 Honda civic si, causing my short term fuel trim to set at -25 triggering check engine light. This disables multiple functions of the car. And looking for parts a found out that fuel injectors are out of stock.

Feb 26, 2024

Contacted Honda Corporate multiple times including the dealer , no remedy to ensure the safety of my vehicle which is at risk of stalling during operation related to national recall of fuel pump indicating the vehicle is unsafe to operate. Case manager from Honda Corporate uninformed, disengaged and rude. No transportation accommodations, no call or follow ups . Dealer not available to provide inspection or repairs. Vehicle is unsafe to operate leaving my family abandoned with no options in a vehicle I am making payments on.

Feb 23, 2024

Car has been triggering engine code P0172, P219D, related to fuel mix being too rich in the cylinders. When I went to order fuel injectors for the vehicle to replace, they are backordered with no date or new part number provided.

Feb 13, 2024

Regarding NHTSA Recall Number 23V-858, Honda campaign KGC, Service Bulletin 23-103, the recall notice indicates an increased likelihood of a failed fuel pump while driving, "increasing the risk of a crash or injury". The notice goes on to say "The replacement parts needed to repair your vehicle are not currently available but are expected to be available in the fall of 2024". So, it is possible that this vehicle will remain unrepaired until near the end of 2024, more than 9 months from now. Given the safety concern, how is this acceptable?

Feb 13, 2024

In regards to NHTSA Recall number 23V-858, Honda campaign KGC, service bulletin 23-103, the notice states the vehicle could "lose drive power, or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury." It goes on to state "The replacement parts needed to repair your vehicle are not currently available but are expected to become available in the fall of 2024." Considering the apparent substantial safety risk, how is it acceptable that a repair is delayed by up to 9 months?

Feb 12, 2024

Dealer canceled twice Morehead Honda did little to fix my problem. They asked me to call parts department daily to check if correct part came in. Poor customer service and terrible communication.

Feb 5, 2024

Poor acceleration after stop, then twice again car loss power, I almost get into an accident due to this.

Jan 12, 2024

The engine light pops up on the dashboard stating an “emissions” issue. When scanned, it says that the fuel pump is malfunctioning.

Jan 9, 2024

I was driving from work, when pressing the gas pedal would not accelerate the vehicle. I was passing over a bridge when the problem occurred. It was in heavy traffic and near a onramp for a busy interstate. I arrived at a stop light before the onramp, and different warning lights on my dash lit up. There were no warning lights on prior to this moment. I tried starting the car again with my hazard lights on, but it would not "turn over". I assumed that either my battery/alternator was having problems or the engine was not receiving fuel to start. Traffic was too heavy for me to get out of my car and thankfully, no one hit me or my car. After trying to jump the car, I had it towed to a small mechanic recommended to me that night. The next morning, I was informed that the codes indicated a problem with the fuel pump and that Honda had a safety recall out. They said to tow it to a certified dealer to get the problem fixed. The Honda dealership received the car that day, after closing, and I called the next morning. I was told that the dealership could not touch my car because the recall was not official. I asked about a loaner car or reimbursement for a rental car and informed that they would get back to me soon with an answer and I should call Honda Customer Care. I was informed that yes the dealership should be able to assess my car and though the recall is not out yet, they could fix it and I would pay out of pocket to be reimbursed when the recall became official. After multiple days and calls, they finally ran the diagnostic codes and confirmed that the fuel pump is affected and that the recall is the culprit, but they could not fix it because it was not official and they did not have the parts. I was finally told last night that they could order parts and fix it by Friday. Customer Care called again today, telling me they do not know how to fix it. No other transportation has been offered and having one vehicle has put a strain on my wife and I.

The fuel injectors do not work!

Nov 24, 2023

Fuel injectors failed at 60,000 miles. I do have the failed injectors. The driver's safety was put at risk in the case of engine failure or an unexpected loss of power. This is a common problem documented by owners of the 10th generation Civic Si, other 1.5l turbo Hondas, as well as Honda itself. There was an emission light several weeks ago and an engine light a couple of days ago.

Sep 20, 2023

Fuel injectors failed before 50k miles. Dealer states this is a common issue seen with these vehicles and is replaced often. Car has unsteady acceleration and jumps with acceleration. Vehicle has had stalling issues when accelerating forward as well. There are no warning messages that appeared on the dash and the car did not cue any codes. This is an extreme driving hazard as it is causing fuel injection issues and a fire hazard while operating the vehicle.

Aug 11, 2023

My Honda is only at 80,000 miles and my fuel pump has gone bad already and I wanted to look into this as I feel it’s not right to have my car die in me so early in it’s life for something that should last much longer

Jun 9, 2023

Strong smell of fuel in the cabin due to known Honda oil dilution associated with the 1.5 turbo engine. Honda has a “fix” for issue but states only cold weather states are affected. Our 2018 Honda Civic has had this issue for over 2 years now. Strong smell of fuel in the oil, along with oil above normal mark on dipstick. On oil change, oil is filled to the normal mark (3.7 quarts) and upon oil change, 4.5 quarts will come out (likely fuel in the oil). The major safety issue is that the smell of fuel in the cabin is strong to the point of causing driver and passengers to have burning eyes, and in some occasions, dizziness. No warning lights have come on as a result of this issue. Vehicle was taken to dealership over a year ago and dealership stated this is a problem in cold weather states and not in California. Dealership could not replicate issue.

Jan 11, 2023

Fuel injectors are fouled up at 25k miles, and cause misfires. Problem had been noted on other Honda vehicles and recall had been issued for the 6 cylinder cars, but not for Civics or 4 cylinder cars. Check engine light, and emissions system warning.

Actuator Assy., Fuel Lid (FUEL FILL DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR). Repeatedly locks and unlocks (making a gun shot noise loudly) every time I get in and out of the vehicle. Yes, it is available for inspection at any time. My safety or the safety of others could be at risk with the open gas cap, constant moving electrical components, and to be left stranded unable to open the gas door. The Problem was talked about with the Honda dealership. They said it was a common problem. That Honda knows about. No warning lamps or any notification.

Aug 8, 2022

While I leased this vehicle, I noticed an issue with the fuel door every so often. Every so often, I would press the corner of the fuel door to open but the spring/locking mechanism would not release it. I would have to keep pressing it in over and over or I would have to pry it until it popped open. This was not frequently an issue, the majority of times the fuel door would open without issue.

Apr 12, 2022

Under acceleration from a stop, a strong smell of gasoline enters the cabin of the vehicle, causing the occupants watery eyes, headaches and dizziness at times. The smell comes an goes intermittently. Oil from the engine has a strong smell of gasoline, and oil level increases with driving. No engine codes are shown and no visible fuel leaks on engine bay. Honda dealership drove vehicle for 5 minutes and problem smell was not noticed then. Honda dealership stated oil dilution problems with this engine only occur in cold weather states.

There is fuel leaking into engine oil and thinning it out. My mechanic said there's a software issue causing it but a recall hasn't happened for it. It's hurting my car performance and making my car speed up faster even when breaking.

We believe our issue was caused by wiring harnesses coated in soy-based bio-plastics. In late June 2021 our 2018 Honda Civic emitted a strong odor of gasoline. The gasoline odor was detected 15 feet away from the vehicle. Noxious gasoline fumes were inhaled while driving and posed a health risk to driver and passengers, as well as possible fire hazard due to fumes. On June 30, 2021, the Honda Civic was taken to a local Honda dealership for service. It was inspected and signs of mouse damage on top & battery blanket were detected. Honda replaced fuel lines, pipe set fuel & applied rodent tape. No vehicle warnings, lamps or messages alerted us to the problem. It was the strong odor of gasoline that warned us of a problem. Cost to vehicle owner to repair: $1568 on a vehicle that was under warranty.

MY CAR MAKES LIKE A CLICKING NOISE INTERMITTENTLY WHILE ACCELERATING. WHEN IT'S MAKING THIS NOISE IT HAS STOPPED ACCELERATING. I HAVE TO RELEASE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN WHEN I ACCELERATE, IT IS BACK TO NORMAL.THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY ANYMORE BUT AT ONE POINT IT WAS HAPPENING PRETTY MUCH AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2020 ND NOVEMBER 2020 AND ASKED THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. I TOLD THEM IT MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP/SYSTEM OR SOMETHING WITH THE ACCELERATOR, AND PRECEDED TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE NOISE. BOTH TIMES THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE NOISE AND THEREFORE COULD NOT FIX OR DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, ON A HILL, ACCELERATING QUICKLY, AND SOMETIMES JUST GOOD OLD FASHIONED REGULAR ACCELERATING. IT HAS MADE ME LOSE TRUST IN THE CAR LIKE I COULD BE TURNING OR PASSING SOMEONE AND IT HAPPENS WHEN EVERYONE OND IS CRITICAL. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE BEEN ACCELERATING VERY SLOWLY TO TRY TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF TIMES IT HAPPENS BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS.

THE FUEL DOOR ACTUATOR STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD BUZZING NOISE AT 38,500 MILES AFTER 2 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS OF USE. THE ACTUATOR FAILED BECAUSE IT IS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING CONSTANTLY WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH ALL HONDAS THAT UTILIZE THIS FUNCTION FOR THE FUEL DOOR.

IN JULY 2020 I TOOK MY CAR TO LANCASTER HONDA IN LANCASTER, CA FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THEY POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND CALL ME TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIR. NOTHING HAPPENED. IN OCTOBER 2020 I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR STATING EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED DONE. THE DAY BEFORE THEY CALLED TO CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT. I TOOK THE CAR IN ON THE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT DAY AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT SAID NO PART HAD BEEN ORDERED AND THE REPAIR COULD NOT BE DONE. I SAID YOU CONFIRMED THE APPOINTMENT WITH ME SO WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT IF YOU DID NOT HAVE THE PART. HE APOLOGIZED AND SAID THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND CONTACT ME TO SCHDULE THE APPOINTMENT TO PUT IT IN. IT IS NOW MID NOVEMBER AND I HAVE STILL HEARD NOTHING FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

OIL DILUTED WITH FUEL (3/4" ABOVE THE FULL MARK ON THE DIPSTICK) - THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S 1.5 TURBO ENGINE (CIVIC, CRV). OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE HAVE REPORTED THEIR VEHICLES STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH -- DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.

AT 2025 MILES MY 2018 CIVICTHAT I HAD FOR 2ISH MONTHS STARTED SMELLING LIKE FUEL IN THE CAB. SO I LOOKED IT UP AND THE EARTH DREAMS MOTOR IS HAVING OIL DILUTION PROBLEMS AND IT IS BECOMING MORE COMMON. SO I CHECKED MY OIL AND FOUND MY CAR A QUART OVERFULL WITH FUEL IN MY OIL. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY GAVE IT A FREE OIL CHANGE AND SAID THAT THERE IS NO FIX ANDIT IS NORMAL. THE OIL VISCOSITY WILL DETERIORATE EVENTUAL LEAVING ME WITHA KNOCK OR DISABLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT IS AN ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE A CRASH OR SICKNESS WHEN THE NOXIOUS GAS SMELL COMES BACK. I HAVE NOW PUT 450 MILES ON IT SINCE THE OIL CHANGE AND AM SMELLING FUEL IN MY OIL AGAIN.
