I have replaced my battery twice. I have purchased a new door handle so it wouldn’t drain the electric in my vehicle. I was told to drive my car every day to keep my battery charged. I just walked out the door and my battery is dead. This has happened approximately 12 times since I have owned this vehicle and I believe there should be a recall because you cannot find the parasitic draw. Please help me. I cannot afford all these repairs and this should be a recall. I have seen lots of articles about the 2018 Honda Civic sedan please file this under a recall.

AC did not work at all when the outside temperature was hot. Service Bulletin 19-091 performed. AC blew cold after the repair. 1 year later AC did not work at all again. Dealership said the extended warranty will not cover it because it is an evaporator leak. This is a known issue and many have complained. If there is a leak in the evaporator then I would assume the refrigerant is leaking into the car and not outside the car. Risks of R1234yf Refrigerant: Flammability: R1234yf is classified as mildly flammable (A2L), meaning it requires a significant heat source to ignite but can burn. Toxic combustion products: When burned, R1234yf produces highly toxic and corrosive substances, such as hydrogen fluoride. Asphyxiation risk: A leak can displace oxygen, leading to a risk of asphyxiation in poorly ventilated areas. ac evaporator leaking along with ac condenser and ac compressor confirmed by honda dealership

Aug 14, 2025

The air conditioning unit has failed and has continual problems, despite having repairs made through the dealership on four separate occasions. The AC condenser and seals have been replaced during each service. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The lack of air conditioning and dark exterior paint results in a high internal temperature of the vehicle, posing a significant risk of heat stroke and syncope to the driver and passengers. After driving for twenty minutes in the vehicle during a hot day, I was unable to continue driving as I was near syncope. The problem regarding the AC has been reproduced and confirmed by both the dealer and another independent service center. The only indication of the problem within the vehicle is when the AC is turned on. There were no warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure of the system. The problem was first noted during the summer months of 2021.

Paint job on this vehicle is awful 3+ yrs ago it started peeling and flaking off now there is no paint on my side mirrors Contacted Honda just to be ignored

I own a 2018 Honda Civic that is subject to an open fuel pump recall. My vehicle suddenly became completely inoperable. When attempting to start the car, all of the dashboard lights come on, but the engine will not start or crank. The vehicle has power but will not turn over at all. This failure happened without any prior warning. I contacted Nalley Honda in Union City, GA, and they confirmed that the issue is related to the fuel pump recall. However, they refused to provide towing for the vehicle and told me the earliest appointment available would be over a week out, despite the vehicle being undrivable due to this known safety defect. This situation puts my safety and my family’s safety at risk, as I am now stranded without reliable transportation because of a manufacturer defect. The problem has been acknowledged by the dealership but has not been resolved because of their refusal to assist with towing or provide a timely repair. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure—this happened suddenly. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue further, as it presents a serious safety concern. I also want to report that Honda has not provided towing assistance or a loaner vehicle while the safety recall repair is pending, which leaves me without any transportation.

Body Control Module The part was detected by Honda agency and they changed it because the battery was discharging. This Honda part already had problems with another model, but I don't want to admit that it also has them with the Civic models. The repair has a cost of $1000

Hello my name is [XXX] I sold this car to a buyer and would like to double remind the buyer about the recall so they can get it done, but they are not responding so I would like if you guys can remind them about the recall for safety measures thank you. HONDA RECALL THE 2018 CIVIC FOR AC COMPRESSOR SHAFT SEAL AND THE DEALER REPAIR THE AC SYSTEM 3 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIX. ALSO HAS A RECALL FOR A FUEL PUMP MOTOR BUT IM NOT SURE IS WAS CORRECT IT FOR THE OLD OWNER.

When i tried to open my gas tank on the neighborhood station to put gas it got locked and cannot be opened, the other drivers tried to help me and the station attendant. But to no avail I have to bring it to the local Honda dealership where I bought my car and it cost me almost $300.00, the problem was there was no way it can be opened manually, one driver even tried to Google it. Also, with this model, I received a recall notice about the Fuel injection and tried to call the Honda dealer about the situation they always told me no parts available yet, but I am quiet scared because I don't want to get accident associated with the recall parts. The technician always said, "you are safe the car won't stop" but for how long? I also told them "How come they keep sending recall notice but every time I bring my car to the shop, they answered was "no available parts"

I am the original owner. Had the compressor fail on year 4 (got it replaced)and now in year 6 the evaporator has failed. Dealer inspected and determined both. In Phoenix, AZ with heat advisories throughout the summer it’s not safe/healthy to be in the car exposed to such heat. It seems the entire A/C system is flawed but extended warranties only apply to condenser and compressor.

March 5th 2020 I finally recorded a message that had been appearing in my dash board during late night drives. Message read as "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Collision Mitigation System Problem" I notified Honda of North Hollywood service department at the time, and they said they could not do anything to fix the problem unless the message was actively displayed on the dash board during the time of service. Unfortunate for me the message would come and go and would not remain on for the service advisor to see. Several times my vehicle would randomly brake abruptly (to a screeching halt) due to a malfunction in detecting cars/objects around me. Luckily I managed to not crash or have other vehicles crash into my car from behind, but it scared me. I've always wondered what the issue was, and was never able to get it resolved because I didn't have proof of the abrupt stops. Fast forward to May 2024 I received a letter in the mail for a recall on the fuel pump module. I think this might have something to also do with not being able to start my car three times within one year... I ended up replacing multiple batteries and cleansing the fuel tank thinking that was the issue and I have been mobile since then. I have contacted Curry Honda in Georgia multiple times to get the recall resolved. 8 months since I received the recall notice, and the issue is still unresolved. Please help. I rely on this vehicle to get to work, and I am still paying on this car. I am concerned of the safety issue.

The standard OEM key fobs for Honda Civics, for several model years, and possibly for other Honda models, have a "feature" that seriously affects driver and passenger safety, and that cannot be disabled. If two buttons are depressed simultaneously on the key fob for a period of time, all of the windows go down and the doors unlock. I have encountered dozens and dozens, perhaps hundreds, of owner complaints about this "feature" on various Internet bulletin boards. Typically, the stories go, "I parked downtown in an unsafe area and I came back to my car and found that it was unlocked with all of the windows open and someone stole everything from my car," or "I parked outside just before a rain storm and I returned to my car to find all of the windows open without my knowledge and the interior of my car was soaked." Single women could encounter this problem and be attacked by people hiding in the back seat. Apparently, if anything in one's pocket depresses the keys on the fob, without one's knowledge, this occurs. It has happened to me, where I'll bend down to tie my shoe and walk away and I'll return hours later to find all the windows open during a rain storm or in a bad part of town. I've asked American Honda numerous times for a way to disable this unwanted "feature" and they've said that they've not interested in addressing it unless they're forced to do so by the government. This is a serious safety issue, not only implicating potential crime, but a wet soaked car interior could affect electrical and navigation systems in a life-threatening way. If you respond, I can upload several Internet pages with owner comments and complaints about this problem.

1) Caused by faulty Body Control Module (BCM). 2) Can't enter car, key fob won't unlock car. Dashboard is illuminated when car is off, I can see it through my window. 3) Alarm horn went on when car is off. 4) Turn on my car, multiple errors, go to drive the car thinking I need to reset it from battery change. Shut off my car, but go to turn it back on. Car cranks but won't turn on, shows multiple errors on dash. 5) Dash shows "keyless start system problem" and car won't turn off. When pushing button to turn off car, head lights and a/c turn off but the engine still runs, push/start button flashes. Disconnected battery, still runs. Had to pull fuel or ECU fuse to stop the car running. 6) Can't reliably get my car to start. Issue is intermittent.

Stalling, Oil pollution, electrical issues. The car shut off on me in the middle of the highway!

Aug 30, 2024

A/C went out on a road trip. Temperatures were in the 90s. No cold air. When it happened there was a really odd odor that we smelled that made us feel sick and nauseous. Took it to the dealer to look at it. They charged 360 just to look at it. Ended up replacing the condenser under warranty but that didn't fix the issue. Turns out it was the compressor that was the issue and not covered under warranty, Honda wants $1242 to repair the clutch, field and pulley assembly. With the number of complaints regarding the AC issues on these cars, there needs to be a recall or class action lawsuit to protect consumers. This is dangerous due to the smell and leaks and also due to no AC on hot days. My car has less than 60k miles and is a 2018, ridiculous!

Aug 27, 2024

Went to Honda dealership to diagnose why white smoke was coming through the AC vent whenever I would turn on the AC. Honda said that my AC condenser went bad, which is covered under the extended warranty due to others having the same issue but that my AC Evaporator core was stain and also needs to be replaced. I was quoted $2322.16 to have the Evaporator replaced and it needed to be replaced before they could continue with replaced the condenser and recharged the system for free. Please help as it seems the issue has to do with the new Freon Honda is using.

Aug 21, 2024

I have noticed recently that almost every time when I start the car, it stalls for a second then turns on. There were many times that the car will jerk when I accelerate after being stopped at a red light. The car seems to not have as much power as before. I feel as though I have to step on the gas more to keep up speed especially on the freeway. Fortunately, no accidents have occurred. I have not had the vehicle inspected because when I called my local Honda dealership, they said they did not have the parts to replace it. There are no warning messages or lamps. I cannot pinpoint the exact date I have noticed these occurrences but most likely for a few months now since January 2024.

Aug 5, 2024

My AC system in my 2018 Honda has now failed twice under 80000 miles. The first time the compressor and condenser were leaking and failed around 50000 miles which the dealership said was due to a new refrigerant that Honda had started using for this generation of civics. Following this repair, Honda extended the warranty for these components of the AC system. Early in July 2024, I had the same issues with my AC blowing hot air only and making hissing and banging noises on the passenger side at around 75000 miles. Took this to the dealership and they again said that the compressor and condenser were leaking and had failed but also that the evaporator valve was leaking and failed due to the compressor and condenser issues. However, Honda has not extended their warranty for these parts and this would be an out of pocket cost. Honda needs to own up to their faulty AC system used in this generation of Honda civics and extend the warranty to all involved parts or issue a recall and properly fix the system so it isn’t failing every 18 months.

Jul 25, 2024

We have 2 civics 2018 & 2019 both need AC Evap Core, had other parts replaced under warranty but this isn't covered and its $3000.00

The electric power steering is bad in this model vehicle. Once the car is warmed up, it begins to have a stick/jerky steering wheel. It is difficult to make minor adjustments while driving straight, as the wheel jerks one way or the other when there is a problem. There is a recall on the EPS on 2018 Honda Civics, however my VIN does not fall into the recall, and it should because it is a faulty part and is unsafe to drive. The sticky steering wheel will even show itself when in park. Steering should be smooth and this should not be an issue on a car with such low mileage. I have taken the vehicle to a certified Honda mechanic and they recommended replacing the EPS rack. This should not be an issue on a car this new.

Jul 6, 2024

AC does not blow cold air. I get dizzy when driving in the heat during summertime.

Jun 18, 2024

AC leaking Freon inside cabin. AC unit leaking Freon in atmosphere. My car’s AC unit started blowing hot air instead on AC cold air. Making it dangerous to stay and operate the vehicle while high temperatures here in California. I was told at Honda dealer that there are several TSB for AC repairs due to leaking from the AC condensers and AC compressor but that my car is leaking from inside the cabin through the evaporator and possibly inhaled the Freon that was escaped and the rest into the atmosphere. Extremely dangerous. Many articles about this please help? Honda USA is not helping fix and wants to do outrageous changes to get it fix.

Jun 8, 2024

AC is not cooling. There was a recall last year (2023) for the A/C Compressor Shaft Seal Leak. I got it fixed by the Gardena dealership in California, but the issue has returned. When I turn on the A/C it makes an odd noise almost like a hissing noise. I no longer turn it on.

Jun 4, 2024

Infant mortality of the entire AC system due to faulty components. Cost of repair is $3000+. It is a common, systemic failure on this generation of Honda Civic. Lack of AC in hot regions can lead to unsafe mold growing in the vents as well as heat related illness potentially leading to death. This is a highly hazardous failure with a high likelihood of occurring, so it is unacceptable to allow this situation to continue without a full recall or reimbursement by Honda.

May 6, 2024

My AC system completely failed in my 2018 Honda Civic. I took my vehicle into to service and I was informed that all 3 major components of the AC system is leaking refrigerant. The main problem being the Evaporator has been leaking refrigerant into the car cabin. I have gotten spells of lightheadedness and the feeling that I will pass out and I believe the refrigerant leaking into the cabin is to blame. Honda is aware of the compressor and condenser and evaporator being prone to leaking but will only repair the compressor and condenser free of charge but not the evaporator. Honda is knows the evaporator is defective but does not want to admit it.

Apr 29, 2024

Bumper loose, No A/C only for first day! Car shakes at stop. Low power when pressing gas peddle.

Apr 26, 2024

Went in to a certified Honda Dealership because my car that is only 7 years old had an AC that doesn't work. After the diagnostic they said 3 parts were faulty but only 2 were under warranty. To fix all three and fully fix the system it would cost $2200. I live in Minnesota, I don't even use the AC half of the year and it's still broken? Evaporators are supposed to last 10+ years, and with the winters here thats around 4 years of using the AC and all three of those parts broke. I did not get the repair because I'm hoping it will also be recalled, obviously there was serious issues with the AC in the original model and that's why 2 of the major components were already under extended warranty.

Apr 9, 2024

My vehicle will no longer start and after inspection from a mechanic, it was determined that the fuel pump was the cause. There was no indication of any issue besides not starting. I am now being told by my local dealership that they will not have replacement parts until the fall and they are unable to provide a loaner during this time, leaving me without a vehicle for an unknown amount of time.

Mar 20, 2024

Faulty fuel door actuator. replace fuel door actuator. And emergency latch within the trunk did not work. No way to open the fuel door to add gas.

Feb 15, 2024

The TRMS system constantly displays low tire pressure. I correct the tire pressure and reset the TRMS every time but it happens again and again. . The dealer has also reset the TRMS system, and in a few days it indicated that the tire pressure went down again. I have complained to the Honda dealerships and my mechanic. They’ve not found anything wrong. If the tires are good maybe there’s something wrong with the wheels. Although I have extensive receipts for all my maintenance and repairs, and I’ve frequently complained, they seldom indicate my complaints about tire pressure.

Jan 22, 2024

the evaporator of the AC system failed at 48k miles. We live in Houston Texas and AC is not a luxury it's a requirement making the vehicle unsafe to drive in the extreme temperatures. Honda knows that this is an issue and has recalled both the condenser and compressor of the AC system to a ten year warranty. We're asking that the evaporator also be added to the recall. The cost of repair of the item is almost 1700 US dollars. It's a terrible situation. As the car is like new but out of manufacturers warranty being left with a ridiculous repair cost on a part that should last for the lifetime of the vehicle. I have a Toyota that is 13 years old and never had any issues with the AC system. Thank you.

A/C problem

Dec 4, 2023

Turning the steering wheel requires more force because there’s resistance. It’’s possible to turn the wheel to the left, let go of it and it’ll stay in that direction instead of rotating back. This causes major issues on the highway and during heavy rain. The slightest adjustment causes overcorrection. It’s also accompanied by this creaky/clicking noise.

Unknown. I arrived to the grocery store and went inside to shop. About 45 minutes later I approached my vehicle and attempted to remote start it. As I approached my vehicle I saw it was on (assuming it was from my remote start). My car wouldn’t unlock. The trunk also wouldn’t unlock. My key fob was not dead as I went back into the grocery store and bought a new battery and replaced it. After that still did not work, I attempted to open my car door with the manual key included in my key fob. The manual key also wouldn’t work. At this point I realized my car was not on due to remote start. My car was actually running the entire time. I was stranded for 5 hours while I had to wait for my fiancé to leave work and travel to the part of town I was on. He was also unsuccessful with using the key. We had to resort to unlocking the door with a wire hanger by sticking it through the door. After we successfully unlocked the door, the car alarm went off and the key was working like nothing ever happened. I also want to mention we went home yo get my spare and the spare wasn’t working. How were all doors locked while the car was completely running. It burned a quarter tank of gas. I just wanted to make this report to note what happened.

Oct 20, 2023

A/C doesn't work. Known defect and recall/warranty for compressor and condenser but honda told me is was the evaporator. Entire a/c system bad and they won't cover the last part of the system under warranty.

Sep 14, 2023

Air conditioner continues to fail and break. I am going back to Honda to fix this issue and I will then have my 4th condenser put in this car. I have a baby on the way and my car has been paid off. Now I'll have to sell this car and get something different so I can actually have air conditioning that works. It was replaced 4 months ago and already I need a new condenser. It's a 2018 civic si so not even a old car by any means. Only 73k miles. Honda keeps replacing it with the recalled parts and it just happens over and over again. Shouldn't have to make a appointment every 4 months to fix the same issue over and over.

Sep 8, 2023

I have an 2018 Honda Civic, twice now, my AC has stopped working. The first time Honda warrantied the compressor and now 2 years later, I'm having the same issue. I bought a Honda so I wouldn't have to worry about this kind of stuff. I'm going back to the Nissan

Aug 17, 2023

I purchased a 2018 Civic that is showing severe paint failure around the mirrors and doors of the vehicle. This is an extremely common manufacturing defect that is documented through formal cases opened with Honda, consumer reports, news reports, and dealership inquiries. Severely flaking paint can cause blind spots and vision problems due to sun reactions to exposed metal, driving distractions as paint chips fly off vehicle, environmental pollution, and damage to critical components through rust and water damage.

Aug 16, 2023

Air conditioning not blowing cold air. Took vehicle to Honda dealer. I was told that A/C will need to be recharged with Freon and dye, the cost is $299.95 Once recharged, the A/C will need to be re inspected for further leaks in the A/C system. The A/C compressor seal shaft and the A/C condenser, these two parts, the warranty has been extended by Honda. The A/C evaporator is not covered by Honda warranty. It is a well documented fact that Honda’s A/C systems on the 2018 Civic has defective components. It appears that the R1234yf refrigerant used in these systems is deteriorating the A/C components. Honda has responded to this situation by extending the warranty on the condenser and compressor seal shaft to 10 years from date of purchase. However, to date they have refused to extend the warranty on the evaporator and other components of the system. Typically, evaporator last the lifetime of a vehicle, or at least 10 to 15 years. It is unfair for Honda to charge $299.95 to inspect a system that is known to be faulty, and to saddle the customer with another $2200.00 if the evaporator is found to be leaking. The entire A/C system should be covered by the 10 year extended warranty. Because if the system is functioning as it should, there would be no leaks, and therefore no need to recharge with Freon and dye.

Ac not blowing out cold air

Jul 30, 2023

Safety hazard for vehicles in the State of Florida. Honda Civic 2016-2018 models defective/failing AC system. Common failing Components include Condenser, Compressor and Evaporator. I paid for a new car and within the first few years of purchase the ac went out due to Honda’s faulty equipment. Per Dealer recommendation replacing evaporator with expansion valve. $2200 to repair. This is a safety concern and hazard in the State of Florida. Health reasons include being exposed to Floridas heat for long periods of time. And with Florida’s unpredictable weather conditions and rainfall, when it rains all windows including windshield fogs up which creates the inability to see which effects the driver and surrounding motorists. Honda has acknowledged the issue but only extended its warranty on the Condenser and Compressor. Not the evaporator. Which SpaceCoast Honda has stated they see more commonly the evaporator failing above all else.

Jul 2, 2023

When the car gets hot after about 10 mins of driving in spring/summer weather the steering wheel feels like it’s sticks and the steering gets very tight. I then have to over compensate to stay in my lane and it’s constant until you stop and allow the car to cool off again.

Jun 17, 2023

My A/C does not work. It has blown out warm or hot air since I bought it used in June 2022. Only the passenger side blew out cold air for a few months but now it's completely warm as well.

Jun 8, 2023

The AC has failed 3 times on my car. I have had the car since 2017 (73,000 miles) and today marks my 3rd time taking the car in for an AC issue (blowing warm, unable to cool cabin). This has been frustrating since Honda has been known to be reliable. It is very unfortunate that they cannot place a recall on this car due it it lacking a "safety" issue. I live in Southern California and during the summer, I definitely consider not having AC a safety issue. Taking my car to the dealer is inconvenient and takes away from my life. Not only does dealer not have loaner cars until the issue is considered a warranty, but I have to take Personal Time Off so that I can take care of this manufacture problem.

May 31, 2023

Last July I had to have my AC condenser and compressor replaced due to one side of the air conditioner working. Bad part was i had to pay to have a recall fixed after the fact and now im trying to get American Honda to reimburse me my money. After 1 year the problem came back and now they are saying it's my evaporate coil. Honda is not taking this seriously and expecting people to pay several thousands of dollars to fix an issue that is their problem.

May 30, 2023

While driving on a highway my sunroof randomly shattered. There were barely any cars around me. Nothing his my sunroof it just shattered randomly.

May 4, 2023

My driver side mirror is very loose and wiggles/shimmys while the car is loving causing me to not be able to use the side view mirror. It’s not the entire mirror housing, just the reflective glass part. This is a serious safety issue! I have seen the recalls in other Honda models for this very reason but not mine.

Apr 22, 2023

Air conditioner condenser needs replaced at 24,000 miles. Mechanic says he has worked on numerous exact models / similar year with same issue. Has there been a recall?

Apr 8, 2023

My air conditioner has gone out for the 3rd time. Fits the air condenser is replaced, and then the evaporator core. Now stating the compressor. With a newborn baby infant my ac blowing hot air does not help and could cause a heat stroke! Summer days are approaching in California which are dangerous.

Dec 20, 2022

The paint on both of the side mirrors have began peeling. The paint on one of the door handles have began peeling. After research, I have found that Honda has been known for this same issue on prior vehicles due to improper paint laying technique. I contacted Honda Automotives and they told me they wouldn't help me due to my vehicle not being apart of the prior "campaigns" to fix the paint on the recorded vehicles.

Oct 21, 2022

After less than 4 years, the dashboard Infotainment Screen stopped working and went blank/dark. I checked all connections and fuses with no luck. After a trip to the Honda Dealer, they quoted $1200.00 to replace the Infotainment screen. I do not have the money to replace this part. This part failed in less than 4 years time. As a result, I have no access to the back up camera, tire inflation calibration, or radio controls and other functions displayed on this screen. This is causing a safety hazard while driving and undue driver distraction while driving while trying to access information usually displayed on the screen. I checked the internet regarding this issue, and there is wide spread data that this is a common issue with Honda, including several law firm class action lawsuits. I believe there should be a Safety Recall for Honda to replace this part.

Oct 17, 2022

First it was two hoses that had issues with the AC then the condensor wasnt holding anything in so it kept leaking out and my AC still wasnt working so Honda said the Evaporator went out and said this is what Honda is known for and happens a lot. So my whole AC all these little parts kept going out and it cost me $4000 to replace all of them and to get it fixed. The evaporator is what cost $3000 to replace

Sep 12, 2022

The car had damage because in the carfax they gave me on the left side of the car the shock absorbers fail and I always had that problem also The moldings the first time I cleaned it also fell apart at the time to revere and turn to the right when it is going back it has such an annoying noise

Jul 13, 2022

This car has a defective Evaporator mine and many other people have had evaporator go back and left with no Air Condition i live in California weather is over 106 degrees. Dealership are aware and charging $1,500-$2,000 to repair. I believe a recall should be made to fix 2017-2018 Honda civic evaporator.

Jul 9, 2022

Service center states evaporator is leaking. The leaking ac components is a known issue to Honda who have issued a extended warranty for other AC component. R1234yf refrigerant is a flammable danger and leaking in the engine bay.

Jul 4, 2022

The problem is Compressor of the AC is faulty/damage. This is very common and i see a lot of people online having this problem. Its weird because they only warranty the condenser. Not Compressor which is also affected by bad manufacturing. Please help bring this to light and let it fully covered all AC parts. Thank you in advance

Jun 28, 2022

There crappy electrical Systems and cause a fire! It’s breaks the Ac system. Someone could die of heat related reason from driving in 95 degree weather. DAMN YOU HONDA!!!

Jun 22, 2022

Air conditioning is malfunctioning and not blowing cold air. It is available for inspection. This is an issue on long drives during summer months in high heat. No inspection due to personal cost No visible warnings.

Jun 7, 2022

The AC compressor system is faulty and there are so many people with the same issue and Honda is doing nothing to address it other than say the condenser has issues when in reality it's the entire AC unit https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/honda-civic-air-conditioning-recalls-to-know-about

Apr 14, 2022

Same as everyone else. Owned the car for 4 years, AC stopped working. Wil take to dealer to see if it is covered under TSB 19-091. However even those who get it repaired are still experiencing failure. This should be a recall.

Mar 7, 2022

2018 Civic Hatchback with less than 18,000 miles on it - noticed A/C was not blowing cool air, so took it into dealership for evaluation. Was told the freon was low but the issue was not due to the condenser and would not be covered under the 2016-19 Civic A/C Condenser Warranty extension. Dealership said they looked at everything possible without disassembling through the dash and so gave me the option to either perform a diagnostic leak test/Freon recharge ($400, with the caveat that the leak may still be there and this would be a temporary fix) or to replace the evaporator entirely ($1800). Unfortunately the car is no longer covered under factory warranty since it’s over 3yrs old. Does not make sense that for a vehicle that’s <4 years old with <18K miles this is an issue.

The AC on my vehicle has broken three times since I bought the car in 2018. The compressor and condenser have been replaced but this time it's likely the evaporator. I have been told that it will cost thousands of dollars since the entire dashboard will have to be removed. And I don't know if it's even worth fixing if this cycle of breakdowns is going to repeat itself every year. I am so disappointed because I am a long time Honda owner and there has been no support from corporate so far. The only thing they have done recently is that they continually hound me to invest in an extended warranty. But I believe that I shouldn't be forced to invest more money in order to pay for a defect on their end. Who knew that a Honda could be a lemon?

I am experiencing issues with my 2018 Honda Civic LX A/C. Here is the history of the A/C issues. December 2020 A/C stopped working and went in for maintenance for a check up. Told me condenser was leaking and needed to be replaced and was covered under warranty. However the condenser was back ordered and I couldn't get it replaced at that time. April 2021 Condenser was in stock and went into the dealership to get it fixed on warranty. January 2022 A/C was blowing hot air again so I bought it back to the dealership. Was told the evaporator/compressor was leaking and was quoted $4,000 to get it fixed. Summary: Had constant A/C issues and was finally quoted $4,000 to fix the A/C on a car that is only 4 years old.

2018 Honda Civic 2.0L Sedan bought in July 2018, starts to blow warm air from A/C from on October 2021, with only 50k miles on the car. Went to a mechanic for diagnosis since it was just over warranty and Honda dealer would charge $399 for just diagnosis and the only thing would be under cover is the condenser. The mechanic told me it is either a compressor leak or evaporator leak. I have read the comments online and it says the compressors and evaporator fail at a high rate due to bad design of the 10th gen Honda Civic A/C. I’ve also read that the condenser issue can lead to a compressor and evaporator leak. It is not a safety issue but it is unacceptable that a car which is only over 3 years with about 50k needs to be replaced the compressor or evaporator for over $1000.

The AC is blowing hot air. I hardly use my AC so I don't know exactly when the issue started. I took my car to the Honda dealer in Buena Park CA. They told me that the warranty was expired. My vehicle is a 2018 with 35k + miles…how can that be? And as expected, Honda refuses to take responsibility. They told me a $300+ diagnostic was needed in order to identify the problem, and if the issue was the condenser if was free of charge. Now according to their findings, the issue IS NOT the condenser but the "evaporator" and the cost to repair it is $2000+. Per the comments here, the problems with the AC unit for 2016-2018 Honda Civics IS a highly reported issue. This should be a recall, and Honda should take full responsibility for all the parts/repairs of the entire A/C system for these cars. This is a safety issue to drivers and passengers because there were no vehicle warnings when the malfunction started.

Aug 14, 2021

The A/C system both the condenser and compressor failed in my 2018 Honda Civic with 13,000 miles. Honda acknowledges faulty part with their A/C condenser that could cause refrigerant to leak but failed to take responsibility of the compressor. The leak could cause other A/C components to fail such as the compressor, clutch and coil. These failures could further damage the car and cause the car to be unsafe to drive. Honda should take full responsibility of all the parts in their A/C system instead of charging owners $2300+ to fix the compressor.

We only have this car for 3 years with 40,000+ mileage and the AC started blowing hot air and is a safety issue especially for my wife and our kid. Please notice this concern is not something to be taken lightly especially the heat here in central california where heat stroke often occurs.

Car AC is not working, due to a high number of issue reported to Honda on honda civic AC unit, they extended the warranty of the AC condenser for 10 years. I see many people have this issue so instead of warranty extension, they should go for AC condenser or complete AC unit recall. my car is 3 years and 3 months old and the millage is around 18500 miles, now honda is saying give the car for inspection, if the issue is related to AC condenser it will be free of cost or I need to pay initial inspection fees of 320 dollars and additional for part replacement. AC condenser is the heart of AC unit due to improperly built of AC condenser it can damage other parts also. so ideally Honda should recall and do it free of cost. Please help me here I am not getting any proper help from the honda of America customer care of the dealership.

The AC Compressor failed while I was driving from LA to San Jose, on the hottest day of the year. It is available for inspection, and tomorrow will be formally diagnosed at a Honda Service Center. It has already been diagnosed by my regular repair shop, Michael & Co. in San Jose. Due to the 109* heat and my pets being with me in the car, we had to pull over and take shelter at a motel for 12 hours - and even then, my pets were showing signs of heat exhaustion. There was zero warning; no lamps, sounds, or other alerts. It just... died.

I have 2018 Honda Civic only 30K+ mile and problem with AC. It’s not working and it’s dangerous to drive if I get fog inside vehicle. It’s hard to see outside. Also it’s not comfortable to sit and drive if too hot.I have breathing problems and I have put AC on. I called and they just said only condenser is covered any thing else for ac I have to pay.Which is not right.I checked too many people have same issues with AC

I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALER'S MECHANIC THAT R-1234YF IS VERY FLAMEABLE AND WE ARE LUCKY HAT THE CAR DIDN'T CATCH FIRE OR FLASHOVER. I BELIEVE HONDA IS LIABLE FOR THIS FLAW; THAT THE END OF THE TUBING ASSEMBLY DOES NOT HAVE A SUPPORT TO PREVENT THE TUBING FROM RUBBING AGAINST THE ALTERNATOR OPENING A HOLE FOR THE FREON TO LEAK OUT INTO THE ENVIRONMENT - POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHICALLY. I WONDER HOW THE USEPA FEELS ABOUT THIS FLAW AND HOW MANY CARS ARE LEAKING FREON???

A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT TO I SUBMITTED ABOUT THIS VEHICLE WAS RELEVANT TO THE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERING ON ITS OWN. UPDATE - BACKED BY INSURANCE CLAIMS, IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ONCE FOR EVERY YEAR THE CAR HAS BEEN OWNED. THIS ISSUE SIGNIFICANTLY NEEDS ATTENTION. THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT AN AC UNIT. THEY MANUFACTURED A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. LISTED AS A RECALL BY ALL INFORMATION I SEEN, I WAS OBLIGATED TO PAY A LITTLE OVER $300 FOR THE "RECALL". ONCE FINALLY GETTING A CHANCE TAKING IT BACK IN BECAUSE THE ISSUE WAS NEVER FIXED, THEY RUN TESTS, AND TELL ME THE COMPRESSOR IS BAD AND IS GOING TO COST $1400, MORE THAN THE $1200 IT WAS THE FIRST TIME. ABOVE ALL, THE BUSINESS PRACTICES IN WHICH THEY ACCOUNT FOR THE RECALLS NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED. THE PORTION OF THE COST OF THE FIRST WORK ON THE AC SYSTEM WAS LABELLED AS "GOODWILL" WHICH IS THE REASON THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX IT THIS TIME. THEY SAID "GOOD WILL" IS A ONE TIME THING. THIS IS ALSO HOW THEY OBLIGATED ME TO PAY FOR PART OF A RECALLED PART THAT AT THE TIME THEY TOLD ME WAS A "VOLUNTARY RECALL" AND WOULD THEREFORE NOT BE SUBJECT TO THE STANDARD LAWS SURROUNDING RECALLS. HONDA IS GENUINELY UP TO NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY EVALUATED.

AIR CONDITIONER HAS STOPPED WORKING. BLOWING OUT MUGGY OR HOT AIR INSTEAD OF COLD AIR. THIS HAPPENS WHEN BEING STATIONARY AND DRIVING ON ROADWAYS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. IT WAS ALSO KNOW PROBLEM TO HONDA AND THEY DID NOTHING TO TELL POTENTIAL BUYERS ABOUT THE KNOWN ISSUE. THERE IS ALSO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. ACCORDING TO THE CLASS ACTION IT INVOLVES 2016-2018 HONDA CIVICS. THE ONLY ACTION HONDA TOOK WAS EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS AND UNLIMITED MILEAGE. THEY NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THIS WARRANTY. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY NEED TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT THE AIR CONDITIONER. FIRST WHY SHOULD THERE BE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE. NOTHING IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) 19-091 CONCERNING A/C CONDENSERS THAT CAME FROM THE FACTORY DEFECTIVE IN 2016-2018 HONDA CIVICS NEVER MENTIONS A DIAGNOSTIC BE COMPLETED FIRST. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING SINCE HONDA KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL, AND REPAIR ISSUED TO DEALERS AT NO EXTRA COST TO THE CUSTOMER.. I HAVE ONLY HAD MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS.

WITHOUT WARNING OR WHEN I COME OUT TO MY CALL, ALL THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN, AND THE SUNROOF IS OPEN. I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS AN OPERATOR ERROR AND THAT THE FUNCTION ON MY KEY FOB MUST HAVE BEEN ACCIDENTLY PRESSED. HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE KEY FOB IS NOWHERE NEAR THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES AT HOME WHERE I KEEP THE KEY FOB AT LEAST 30 YARDS AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED TWICE AT WORK WHERE THE VEHICLE IS OVER 50 YARDS AWAY AND MUST PASS THROUGH 1.5 FEET OF CONCRETE TO SEND A SIGNAL TO THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE NUMEROUS TIMES (I HAVE LOST COUNT) THE TRUNK WILL OPEN WITHOUT ACTIVATING THE KEY FOB OF DEPRESSING THE KNOB IN THE CAR. AGAIN, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERS THAT IT IS OPERATOR ERROR. HOWEVER, EACH TIME THIS OCCURS, THE KEY FOB IS IN MY HAND ON THE WAY TO THE CAR OR IN THE CONSOLE AREA WHERE IT IS NOT BEING TOUCHED BY ME OR BY ANYTHING ELSE. IT HAS OCCURRED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND ONCE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION'CAUSING ME TO QUICKLY PULL OVER SO THE CONTENTS OF THE TRUNK DO NOT FLY OUT AND HIT SOMEONE. BESIDES THE OBVIOUS SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUE, THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED A GREAT DEAL OF WATER DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AND MAY HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM VIA THE HANDS-FREE SYSTEM IN THE CONSOLE AND THE USB PORT IN THE CENTER COMPARTMENT'BOTH OF WHICH WERE COVERED IN WATER DURING THIS PAST INCIDENT WHEN IT WAS HEAVILY RAINING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THESE ARE FLUKES, AND HONDA HAS NOT AND WILL NOT MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO DISABLE THIS FEATURE. THE 200+ COMPLAINTS/REPORTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE INDICATES TO ME THAT IT IS NOT A FLUKE. AS THE OWNER, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE DISABLE THIS FEATURE SO FURTHER DAMAGES, SAFETY, AND SECURITY ARE NOT AN ISSUE. THE HONDA CIVIC IN QUESTION IS LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD.

THIS PAST SUMMER (SUMMER OF 2019) MY WIFE'S 2018 HONDA CIVIC'S AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM BEGAN TO LOSE ITS ABILITY TO COOL AIR GRADUALLY, UNTIL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HOTTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR, IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. BECAUSE IT IS A LEASE, I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR HOME HONDA SERVICE CENTER .THEY REFUSED TO COVER COSTS ALLEGEDLY BECAUSE THE MALFUNCTION HAD BEEN CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS ON THE CONDENSER. FAST FORWARD TO NOVEMBER, I RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON 2018 CIVIC CONDENSERS. IT WAS CLEAR TO ME THEN, THAT THE MALFUNCTION WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND NOT DUE TO MY WIFE GOING OFF-ROADING (WHICH SHE DOESN'T DO LOL). I BECAME HOPEFUL THAT HONDA WOULD REIMBURSE ME (OVER $800). AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH FOR TWO MONTHS, I JUST RECEIVED A CALL IN WHICH THEY ADVISED ME THAT DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE MALFUNCTION (HAVING BEEN CAUSED BY "ROAD DEBRIS" SUPPOSEDLY), HONDA WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME. I HAVE CLEARLY BEEN TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT TO AIKEN HONDA AND AFTER FOUR HOURS AND TWO MEN WORKING ON IT THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS A ROCK IN IT AND THEY PRODUCED ME A ROCK BIGGER THAN A FIFTY CENT PIECE. THERE'S NO WAY THAT GIANT ROCK WAS IN MY MOON ROOF. I WOULD OF SEEN IT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT MYSELF. I THINK THEY JUST PICKED UP ONE OF THE RIVER ROCKS THAT ARE IN THEIR PARKING LOT PLANTERS. (THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE, IRONIC HUH? NOT TO ME BECAUSE THIS HONDA IS THE ONE WHO SOLD ME THIS LEMON ALONG WITH SCAMMING ME OUT OF 30,000. DO NOT SHOP HERE) SO THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE MOON ROOF. EVEN THO THEY MADE ME WITHOUT MY CONCENT PURCHASE 3 WARRANTYS (HAD NO CLUE)) ALSO THE MECHANICAL SEAT HAS SOME SORT OF DEFECT THAT IS KIND OF SCARY. IF YOU GO ALL THE WAY BACK AND LEAN ALL THE WAY BACK (AS TO NOT HIT THE AIRBAG AND NOT LAY DOWN) IT MAKES AN AWFUL DING NOISE IN THE SEAT THAT CAN BE FELT AS IF A GIANT SPRING IS POPPING UNDER THE SEAT CUSHION AND YOU CAN LITERALLY FEEL IT HIT HARD.
