Dear NHTSA, I am writing to file a complaint regarding an unresolved recall issue for my vehicle. Although the manufacturer’s service center has completed the recall repair, the repair has not been updated in the NHTSA system, and the vehicle still shows an open recall. This unresolved status is creating serious issues: The car cannot pass Vehicle Safety Systems (VSS) inspection. Registration cannot be completed for the buyer. The bank is holding funds from the sale until the recall is officially cleared. I have contacted both Honda corporate and the servicing dealership several times, but despite their assurances, the recall remains uncleared in the system. Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2019 Honda Civic VIN: [XXX] This delay is unreasonable, disruptive to my business operations, and unfair to the customer. I respectfully request NHTSA’s intervention to ensure that Honda updates the recall status promptly and accurately. Thank you for your assistance. I had gotten a new battery because one point after work, my car would not start. I then got installed a brand new battery, and it still wouldn’t turn on. The only things that turned on were the dashboard, but no noise coming from the front engine compartment. I tried turning it on after, but it wouldn’t start at all. I then got it towed to an auto shop and they installed a new starter. The new starter worked for a month before another incident in a Walmart parking lot where it would not start after turning the key multiple times. After a few times it started and I drove it again to the same auto shop. The auto shop had no trouble starting it, they turned it on and off several times without any fault. That was in July of 2025. Fast forward a few weeks later, there was two instances in which the car did the same thing, the engine was not turning on only the front dashboard lights. After the first try it turned on. Now on 8/22/2025 as I was driving on the highway going 75mph the car stopped decelerating. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. It stopped completely, thankfully I was able to stop on the side of the highway but it was still a very dangerous situation had it been another time during the day. This time, the engine compartment, once the key was turned was simply making a noise but not starting or “turning over”. I lifted up the hood and noticed that when the key was inserted the engine compartment was shaking. I got it towed to the same auto shop awaiting the results. I looked up the symptoms for a faulty fuel state and my car is showing to have a lot of the same as it would be that.

When trying to start the car the car won't turn over. When it finally does start and i am driving it seems to lose power as if it wants to shut down. Im afraid to drive long distances. I looked up recalls based on my vin however nothing comes up but when I look it up based on year make and model it has an open recall for faulty fuel injector that needs to be replaced for the same exact symptoms. Please help as i am 7months pregnant and afraid for my safety.

I brought my car to the dealership Honda North at 382 Newbury Street in Danvers MA on 6/5/25 to repair NHTSA Recall number 23V-858. The vehicle was returned to me on 6/7/25 at which time I was told the interior would have a strong fuel smell for 1-2 days, but that would disappear. After 4 days, the fuel smell worsened and the "Check Engine" light had come on. On 6/11/25 I returned the vehicle to Honda North. When I picked up the vehicle several days later, the fuel odor was minimal, and the check engine light was off. Today [XXX], the check engine light is back on. I plan to call Honda North to schedule what will be my 3rd visit to Honda North for this safety recall repair, which clearly is not being repaired properly, and putting me in further danger of crash or injury. The fuel injector on my 2019 honda civic si went bad at 58,000 miles, which is over a $2,000 repair. Not only is this a widespread problem with Honda,..they KNOW about the fuel injectors being faulty and have discontinued the part, instead they have chosen another supplier to manufacturer the injectors without issuing a recall. This is blatantly a known defected part and Honda should immediately compensate/replace affected models. There is also a potential class action lawsuit related to this, by Migliaccio and Rathod, LLP My email is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I took my car in this morning for a recall. For the fuel pump. It took the dealership very little time to get my car out which was strange for me because originally they told me it would take 4-5 hours. Following the recall I needed gas since I was told to have a little under half a tank. I was on empty following the procedure. While I was pumping gas I had my hand help on the pump. There was not automatic pump enabled. My car keep taking the gas which was weird and then suddenly I saw gas leaking from my fuel point. I stopped the pump instantly. I soon called Honda but there was no pick up for a long time so I began driving a 3 mile trip from my gas station to the dealer. I started with 365 miles of gas remaining. Once I got to the dealer I had 355 miles remaining. Never in the years I have had that car have I seen my car consume so much gas especially on such little trip. Arrived at Honda. They are very nonchalant about the issue and I do not want them to rush the fix and create more damage and a bigger issue

Dec 17, 2024

On my way to work my car stalled while being driven. I lost the ability to maintain my speed and my car decelerated to a stop in the lane of traffic. The car would not move forward and would not start after it was turned off. I was stopped in the right lane of traffic on a four lane highway during morning rush-hour traffic. A police officer had to remain behind my car in the lane of traffic with their lights on until a tow truck arrived to prevent an accident. My car could not be moved due to the high rate of speed of the cars traveling around it and cars had to merge quickly into the open lane. There were several near accidents while waiting for the tow truck. There were no warning signs or messages that the car had an issue. The mechanic the car was towed to believes the problem is with the fuel gauge and stated they had recently repaired several cars with this issue that were the same or similar base model and year as my car. When inspected the car was found to be out of fuel and, after fuel was added to the car, the cars computer system showed a higher amount of fuel then was put into the car. At the time of the incident, the car showed three or four bars of fuel left on the dashboard fuel display and about 40 miles until empty on the digital display range. The police officer at the scene observed the that the car was showing that it was not out of fuel. The component or system is available for inspection upon request. This issue is similar to a previously repaired recall that effected this car with the fuel pump which stated that the car could be prevented from starting or cause a vehicle to stall while being driven, increasing the risk of a crash. The car is regularly maintained, kept in good working condition, and is mainly used to travel to and from work.

FUEL PUMP INOPERABLE CAUSING MY CAR TO START AND STALL WHILE DRIVING. NEED THIS REPLACED ASAP!

Dec 13, 2024

Some how my steering wheel is crooked, so while going straight, my wheel is around 2 or 3 inches to the left. If I turn it all the way, in either direction the wheel will click, click, click back, moving back the opposite direction with every click. I've changed both front CV axles, sway bar links, brakes, all 4 tires, bought 2 rims so far. Still having issues. Also makes a cluck sound while braking. stalls while stopping and going a lot. Had fuel recalls done already. When a car is coming have to hit the gas pedal to the floor to get it to go. Almost killed me once while automatically braking while switching lanes. There was an 18 Wheeler in front of me to start off with, I turned my signal on to get over in the lane beside of me, which had another 18 wheeler coming a way back. Once I got over the brakes automatically locked down due to sensing the the truck in the other lane. Every since then I keep that feature off. I wouldn't trade her for anything, it's been a wild ride and she keeps me on my toes. Literally. 120,000, 1 owner, 6 years March 2025!

Car has delayed cranking time. Recently got a new car battery but car has weak, struggling and delayed start up. Video proof has been sent to dealership since issue could not be reproduced while car was there for 4+ hours recently. Recall on fuel pump in the past. Other vehicle models are on current recall list but mine is not. I fear that my car will stall while driving or I will become stranded on the road due to this issue.

I received a recall notice about the fuel pump in February 2024. I have been calling Ed Morse Honda to schedule the replacement and they haven't had the parts. I just received a notice from Honda that states the following: "This notice is being sent to inform you that these parts are now available and you can bring your vehicle in for a free repair." I called Ed Morse Honda again today, Nov. 14th and they informed me that they don't have the parts and do not know when they will get them. This is a serious fuel pump issue according to the Honda recall notice that said "can result is serious injury or death.

my car has one recall part . It say :American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2016-2021 model year Civic vehicles. The fuel pump impeller was improperly moulded, resulting in low density impellers. Over time, the low-density impeller can deform and interfere with the fuel pump body, rendering the fuel pump inoperative. I tried to contact some Honda dealer but they don't have the part to replace Please help me out thank you so much

Reached out to Hill Country Honda, San Antonio Texas since the inception of this recall, approximately 2 years ago, and when I received Honda notifications to contact dealer for scheduling. Received another notification from Honda, today, November 4, 2024 and Service Advisor at Hill Country Honda stated they do not have the part and do not know when they will be receiving and to k=just keep checking in to see if they have the part. This is unsafe, disapointing, and just bad business practice from both Honda and Hill Country Honda.

It’s almost been a year since the recall came out. The dealerships are saying Honda hasn’t issued any parts. Called the Marysville Service Center, was told Honda wasn’t fixing any cars unless having problems. Am I supposed to wait until something happens, get in an accident???

Oct 29, 2024

Honda failed to notify me of a fuel pump recall and has failed to replace or fix it within a reasonable time frame. Honda still have not given a timeline of when they will be able to fix the recall and told me to “figure it out” if I want it done sooner.

Hello, I received a recall notification for my 2019 Honda Civic in May 2024. The recall notice states the fuel pump module may have been an improperly molded impeller. The recall is dated May 2024, I called the Markley Honda dealership in Fort Collins Colorado where I purchased the car and was told they did not have the parts yet. It is now mid October and I have called numerous times including yesterday to be told they still do not have parts. I am very concerned that this has not been fixed in a timely fashion. In the recall it states the car could stall during driving increasing risk of crash or injury. The car stalls randomly when turning on, and it just cranks but doesn’t start. This has happened to me 6 times already. I took it to Braman Honda Dealer in Miami and they said that because it is not happening "now" referring to the time of the visit. It cannot be identified or repaired. There are no parts available for the recall . What is this? I need someone to help me out.

Fuel pump affected by recall. Vehicle tends to not start at times and leaves me stranded. Honda unable to replace part in timely fashion even though I have gone to the Honda Dealer several times prior trying to get the issue resolved. Paperwork shows open recall. No warning lights. my 2019 Honda Civic Sport has 2 different recalls and this car has not been fixed or checked by a mechanic at this time, I was sent back home from my appointment at Honda Loma Linda dealership with a promised phone call to resolve the situation, which as today is: 1- car stall's unexpectedly while driving, when this happens it looses power. 2- AC was not working properly since the car was bought in 2022, I set my appointment at Honda dealership but service was denied due to some other vehicles priority, my phone calls were never returned and as today I've been spending out of my pocket trying to fix the issue on my own despite I had it reported to the dealership quite while ago.

My car is not starting properly due to the recall. I reached out to my dealership and they basically told me there is nothing they can do due to the part being on recall. I am a single mother to a [XXX] daughter and with this being my only form of transportation I cannot afford to get a new vehicle or miss work due to not having a vehicle. I am worried my car will stall in the middle of the road with my daughter in it. I am upset the dealership told me there is nothing they can do when it is primary not my fault there is a recall or parts. I understand but this is unfair to costumers for the company not having back up plans in this type of situations. I cannot continue paying for a car that is broken that is out of my control. Is there a different route we can take for this issue ? A replacement ? A refund ? Anything. I don’t mean to be rude. Just very frustrated and upset. Recall on fuel pump; multiple dealers do not have the replacement piece, they say “you can but don’t call other dealers.” I made an appointment over the phone to fix said recall, finally a dealer didn’t say they were out of the part. I show up. It’s a joke. No parts available. “We’ll send a notice in the mail” They aren’t “helpful” Honda people. They physically told me, you have to wait for a problem to happen with this recall and maybe we’ll prioritize you. Basically it’s a lottery if this will be fixed, and it’s only most likely if you get hurt. They’re waiting for accidents to happen to HAVE to fix the cars. Excuses do not save lives, taking cars with issues off the road does. It’s may 19th 2024 and this recall allegedly occurred 12/18/24

My emergency braking system goes off constantly without anything in front of me. I almost got rear ended on a highway because my car came to a dead stop with nothing in front of me or even on the sides of me. It does this daily. My car also has been having a delayed start. It sounds like it almost does not want to start but then starts. Both of these issues have been affecting other Hondas including regular civic sedans but excluding my model and have recalls issued.

Honda fuel pump had a recall back in 2020-2021, which was replaced months after. Now, two years later my car has completely stalled out on me in the middle of driving, not once but TWICE. In the middle of the road. Both incidents happened when I had gas in my car, full battery, etc. and would not turn on until again (both times) until I manually put gas in it. Accelerating is extremely weak, engine is sputtering constantly. Brought it to Commonwealth Honda after the first incident, no answers. After having this happen a second time, i brought it back a second time. I was told there is nothing they can do as they can't see the car stalling in person. I have reiterated to both technicians and management that this car is NOT safe to drive due to a faulty fuel pump, and I am being told tough luck. I would like this problem and these incidents documented in the event I do end up getting injured from this faulty part they are refusing to fix. It has happened two times in the last month, and i'm sure it won't be the last.

Feb 23, 2024

I received a recall notice for the fuel pump module. The Safety Consequence in the recall notice says the following: An inoperable fuel pump could prevent an engine from starting, cause a vehicle to lose drive power, or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. The replacement parts needed to repair your vehicle are not currently available but are expected to become available in the fall of 2024. I should be entitled to a loaner car until the part becomes available and is fixed. If my car stalled while making a left turn in an intersection could be deadly. I called the Honda Motor Company and they reiterated the same information in the recall notice. So, no help there.

Feb 15, 2024

My 2019 Honda Civic has been under recall for months now. I wonder why it's taking so long for Honda to come up with a resolution. I called the Honda Recall/Customer Service Line a few weeks ago, and they said that the part was unavailable and that I should talk to my dealer to get an inspection to rule out any other causes. Over the past six months, I've been having on-again, off-again issues with my car, specifically after fuel-ups at gas stations. Initially, I thought this was an issue with the fuel quality, so I reported it to the Arizona Department of Agriculture, who told me the gasoline was acceptable. I've had to use fuel system cleaners and slightly higher-tiered gas as a scapegoat measure. Considering that this recall can cause issues with the fuel pump module and result in stalls, increasing the risk of injury and death, I would have hoped Honda would have come to a solution by now.

Feb 12, 2024

I received a notice from Honda dated "February 2024." The notice states that "the fuel pump module may have an improperly molded impeller. Over time the impeller can deform and cause the fuel pump to become inoperable . . . an inoperable fuel pump could prevent an engine from starting, cause a vehicle to lose drive power, or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury." Honda acknowledges the fact that there COULD be an issue with certain of their vehicles, but later states that "[t]he replacement parts needed to repair your vehicle are not currently available but are expected to become available in the fall of 2024." Knowing that Honda wants me to drive a possibly defective vehicle for at least 6 more months while KNOWINGLY allowing me to do so with the "increas[ed] . . . risk of a crash or injury," is extremely concerning. I contacted American Honda Motor Co., Inc. customer service and the representative informed me that she has "made a case" for me and that, "if anything happens, just bring it to a dealer." She could not provide me adequate answers to my follow-up questions. Specifically, I am concerned that, if it does happen, why bring it to a dealer? Honda has explicitly stated in their recall notice that the "parts needed to repair [my] vehicle are not currently available." Additionally, suppose, as Honda cautions, the "risk of a crash or injury" occurs and I do not have the opportunity to make it to a dealership? I, any passengers, or any other driver on the road, Honda operator or not, could become deceased as a result of an "inoperable fuel pump." I also drive a Kia Stinger and, as your agency might be aware, this issue was front and center with Kia a few months ago. Unfortunately, my Stinger fell victim and thankfully, I was in my driveway when it occurred. I am not comfortable driving this 2019 Honda Civic given this information and my past experience. This behavior and "notice" from Honda is evidence of their negligence.

On Sunday morning, 8/27/2023, I entered my car after having driven it an hour prior for around 30 minutes to and from a sandwich shop. I entered the vehicle and turned the engine on without issue, and attempted to accelerate. After making it about ten feet, the acceleration on the gas pedal suddenly stopped working. I would push the gas pedal and the car would not move, nor the engine even rev. Confused, I parked and turned the car off and on again. Upon turning the car on, the engine stalled for a brief moment before slowly engaging. It was at that moment that I felt the entire car shifting back and forth, shaking. I immediately shut the car off out of fear and waited for a few moments before making a second attempt, being met with the exact same result. The next day, I entered the vehicle and attempted to turn it on again. This time, it started up and the engine engaged without any issue. However, I was now bombarded by dozens of error messages on my dashboard with systems such as emergency break, ABS, power steering, etc. giving me warnings. This morning, I had a mechanic come out and attempt diagnose the issue. He was confused when running the diagnostic tool through the systems, as he received "permanent codes" regarding several issues with the car. Taking some time to research, his opinion was that there may be an issue with the fuel pump motor. There is an open recall on 2019 Honda Civics for the fuel pump, however my specific vehicle does not seem to show up as needing this fix when I search with my VIN. After taking some time to check things, the Mechanic and myself proceeded to test drive and ensure that the car seemed safe to operate, where the mechanic approved my vehicle and encouraged me to send a report.

I was on my way to take my baby to daycare and all of a sudden fuel gauge system problem popped up. And then everything shut off. Had to park very close to the road because I was on a small road with culverts on each side. I had fuel in it I just drove it the day before with no problems. I don’t feel that’s a very safe feature on the car. I had no warning and my baby was with me. If it’s just a fuel gauge problem why did my whole car shut off? I have researched on Honda that 2019-2021 civics had a fuel pump recall but my when I put my vin number in it tells me no recalls. Just want some answers since my car isn’t that old.

Driving down interstate on 1/19/23 and car lost power. I had to move two lanes to the shoulder without getting hit by other drivers. Had car towed to local dealer and they said it was out of gas. The gas gauge said there was 44 miles to empty. On 2/16/23 I was driving to gas station and as soon as it said 44 miles to empty, the car stalled again. Unsure if fuel pump or fuel sensor issue. When I took it to the dealership the first time all they did was add 5 gallons of gas. Didn’t check fuel pump. No charge. I did pay $275 to have car towed to dealership. The second time I added 5 gallons of gas and then went to gas station and filled up.

The car was stationary and all of a sudden there was a message pop up "FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM PROBLEM" and the fuel gauge went from 3/4 full to E with the fuel icon flashing, then after almost a minute the message went away and the fuel gauge went back to 3/4 full.

The starter was having trouble igniting the engine upon startup. The engine would crank but would not finish with starting up. I did this three or four times. Upon removing the key from the ignition and putting it back in the ignition and starting it up the car started up normally. The issue seems to be with either the ignition system or fuel system, which is available for inspection upon request. The car could suddenly stop without warning on the road and endanger the safety of myself or other drivers. The problem was previously acknowledged by NHTSA in two separate campaign numbers in May 2020 (20V314000) and March 2021 (21V215000) and this particular Civic was serviced in 2021in accordance with that recall and confirmed by the dealer. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

I took my car in for servicing May 2021. When i was there The Coral Springs Honda dealer informed me that they ordered my parts for my cars recall. I called them in July to check on the status after failing to hear from them and they said they did not have the part. So now it is September and i am still here with a possibly faulty Fuel pump. I want this recall situated.

I was driving my Honda Civic 2019 in the freeway- car pool lane. All of a sudden, without any warning light or symptoms, my car engine just stalled. I immediately switched on the emergency light and put the car in neutral gear and somehow made sure the cars behind me were aware that I am stalled. Luckily no crash/incident, but I was stuck in car pool lane still at the risk of car pile up accident. I called 911 and a cop showed in the next 5 minutes. He stopped all cars in all lanes and pushed my car gently over shoulder. Those 5 minutes was very risky and the scariest spot where me and wife were sitting in the car in the car pool lane while cars behind us were dodging us to avoid crash. Now, Honda is saying this may be fuel pump problem and when I checked my VIN in NHTSA, it has the incomplete recall for fuel pump. I wanted the concerned authorities to take action over Honda to recall all cars with this issue to replace fuel pumps immediately to avoid any crashes.

I I brought my car into Morehead Honda the dealer I purchased my vehicle from to get service because the car was acting funny. I then find out I had my car has a recall car with my car for the fuel pump. It was change the fuel pump I went home and a few days later I was stuck on the highway my car just shut down in the middle of the highway. My car was towed back to the dealership they found out there was something wrong with the fuel pump said they fixed it it was an error on their behalf. I returned several times after that because the fuel gauge is reading inaccurately. Dealer is unable to tell me what’s wrong. I fill up my car is giving me different readings my car normally falls up to 300+ close to 400 every time I fill up my car and now it’s reads 191, 150 or 140 when I fill up my car. I continue calling to dealership I am not getting a response. I need help with this it’s a safety issue.

I accelerated into a driveway of a convenience store and as I was halfway through the driveway my gas pedal became unresponsive and would not accelerate. Car started rolling back into traffic. 2 weeks later my pedal became unresponsive on the freeway. I exited and immediately called thd dealer because i had already taken it to get checked out after the first incident and they basically said nothing can be done but to trade it in since the mechanic had already said there was nothing wrong.

I bought the car 4/1/2021, with 15,000 miles on it. In just 2 months, I have had two incidents of the car decelerating. When I was at a traffic light and from a complete stop, I accelerated and the car decelerated and almost stalled in the intersection. I was making a left-hand turn both times and if the car had stalled, an oncoming car could have hit me. This could have caused a serious accident. I notice there is a recall for this problem on other Honda models, but not my car. I am afraid to drive it now because i live in a major city and there is a lot of traffic.

ONCE I LEARNED OF THE RECALL, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT IN MID-JULY. WHEN I WENT TO MY APPOINTMENT, THE ADVISOR WAS NOT THERE, THE PART WAS NOT ORDERED, AND A DIFFERENT ADVISOR SAID THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND IT WOULD ARRIVE WITHIN A WEEK. AFTER MORE THAN A WEEK, I CALLED TO CHECK WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS STILL WAITING TO BE DELIVERED THE FOLLOWING DAY AND I WOULD RECEIVE A PHONE CALL WHEN IT ARRIVED. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PHONE CALL OR NOTIFICATION THAT THE PART WAS IN STOCK TO BE INSTALLED. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THAT, I RECEIVED A TEXT AND EMAIL STATING THAT THE WORK ON MY CAR (RECALL) WAS COMPLETED AND THEY WANTED MY FEEDBACK. SINCE I SHOWED UP FOR MY APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED, IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AND I HAVE NOT RECEIEVED ANY CALL OR NOTICE FROM THIS HONDA DEALERSHIP TO REMEDY THE SITUAION. I CALLED THEM THIS PAST WEEK, LEFT A VOICEMAIL, SPOKE TO A DIFFFERENT ADVISOR WHO COULD NOT TELL ME WHY I HAVE YET TO HAVE THE RECALL COMPLETED, AND SAID I WOULD RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM THE SECOND ADVISOR (THE ONE WHO ORDERED THE PART WHEN MY ADVISOR WAS NOT PRESENT). I HAVE YET TO RECEIEVE ANY COMMUNICATION FROM THIS DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS RECALL OR HOW TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION.

I RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE ON MY HONDA CIVIC 2019 ON WEDNESDAY MAY 8, 2019 IN THE EVENING WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY. THE MESSAGE SAID "EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM". WHEN I GOT TO MY HOME, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESEARCHED WHAT THE ERROR MESSAGE MIGHT MEAN. I CALLED HONDA THE NEXT DAY AND THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ACTIVE RECALL OCCURRING WITH HONDA CIVICS AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE. I HAD AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CORRESPONDENCE IN REGARD TO A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. I DECIDED TO SEARCH MY VIN AND THERE WAS NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO OCEAN HONDA IN WEYMOUTH TODAY AND REQUESTED WRITTEN NOTICE OF THE RECALL. I RECEIVED A SERVICE BULLETIN DATED MARCH 21, 2019, HOWEVER I HAD LEASED MY CAR AFTER THIS DATE. I SPOKE WITH JOSH IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT WHY THE SERVICE WAS NOT PERFORMED PRIOR TO MY LEASE AGREEMENT. JOSH INFORMED THAT THE RECALL IS NOT SAFETY RELATED AND IS CURRENTLY PERFORMING MAINTENANCE.
