I was driving to work in the rain on the highway and I heard a big thump and I thought I had hit something and my wheel went sideways and I kept trying to keep my car on the road even though I didn’t hit anything.
While driving down the road my steering wheel locks or sticks then quickly releases causing me to overcorrect the steering wheel. This happens on a continuous basis while driving. There are no warning lights or messages that come on. I took it to dealership for a diagnostics and they determined it to be the steering gear box but not considered a a recalled item.
I am writing to formally report a persistent and widely experienced issue with the air conditioning system on Honda Civic models from 2017 through 2025 (10th generation). Many owners, including myself, have encountered repeated failures where the A/C system either stops working entirely or begins to blow hot air. These issues appear to be linked to faulty components such as the condenser and evaporator, which have become known problems within the Civic community. I've also noticed that people will fix this issue, only to have it return a few years later. I got lucky when we purchased my car in 2020. We added a Honda Care package, which is still under warranty. They will replace everything without additional payment. What’s concerning is that once the vehicle is out of warranty, owners are being quoted anywhere from $1,300 to $3,000 for repairs, costs that seem excessive for a known defect affecting a major comfort and safety feature. I respectfully ask that Honda recognize this issue and provide appropriate support or reimbursement options for affected customers, especially considering the pattern and volume of complaints. Please let me know how Honda intends to address this concern and if there are any extended warranties or recall programs currently in place for the affected A/C components. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The A/C system failed due to contamination from the ac condenser and compressor shaft seal leaking. It was inspected at Hardin Honda dealership and confirmed these systems were leaking and the entire system was contaminated. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety is put at risk because the contamination can cause the engine to fail. The problem has been confirmed by Hardin Honda dealer and Honda issued two warranty extensions to fix these issues. Hardin Honda put in writing that the defect code is 6C300 and one of the two warranty extensions is under this code. Honda issued Service Bulletin 19-091 for my issue, but they are now refusing to stand behind their warranty extension. When we took it to the dealership they said our issue was not the same and that we had to pay thousands of dollars to fix the entire a/c system. The dealer said they cannot fix the two parts under warranty because the whole system is contaminated but the whole system is contaminated because of those two parts leaking. We reached out to Honda Corporation and they refuse to correlate our issue with the warranty extensions even though we have in writing from Hardin Honda that our A/C issues are the ones under the warranty. Honda issued these warranty extensions and are refusing to pay for the damages that my car is experiencing. The A/C system stopped working on 7/14/2025 and I took the car to the dealership on 7/17/2025 to get it checked out. Honda issued these warranties because of a manufacturing fail on their part and now they are refusing to fix their own issue and making us pay for damages that we had no idea were happening until our A/C system went out. If Honda had issued a recall for these faulty parts, then I would have taken my car in to be fixed right away and my whole a/c system would not be contaminated. We have been in communication with Honda Corp but they will not assist us and will not stand behind their warranty extensions.
The evaporator in my 2020 Honda Civic failed without warning, causing the air conditioning system to stop blowing cold air. This posed a safety risk, especially in hot weather, as it affected driver comfort and increased the chance of fatigue or distraction. The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by a certified Honda dealership, whose staff acknowledged that evaporator failure is a common problem in 10th generation Civics and that Honda corporate is aware of multiple similar cases. While Honda has extended warranty coverage for other A/C components, the evaporator—despite its high failure rate—remains excluded. The repair is extremely labor-intensive and costly, often exceeding what many owners can reasonably afford, which discourages timely repairs. In many cases, the failure is due to leaking refrigerant, which not only compromises system performance but also poses an environmental hazard. There were no warning lights or messages before the failure, and the component is available for inspection upon request. I am requesting that Honda extend warranty coverage to include the evaporator and provide reimbursement for repairs due to the widespread nature, safety concerns, and environmental impact of this issue.
Very frequently, the brake alert system comes on while on the highway causing my vehicle to engage the braking system. This happens whether or not there is a vehicle in front of me.
UNKNOWN
I am the owner of a 2020 Honda Civic Sport, and my air conditioning system has stopped working due to a failed evaporator. A certified Honda dealer confirmed the diagnosis and quoted a high cost for repairs. After researching, I found many other Civic owners with the same issue across multiple model years (2016–2021). Honda has issued an extended warranty for the AC condenser but not for the evaporator, even though both are key components of the same system. This issue negatively impacts the comfort and safety of the vehicle, especially in hot climates, and appears to be widespread. I believe it warrants investigation and possibly a broader warranty extension or recall.
I am writing to formally express my concern regarding a malfunction with the fuel pump in my vehicle, 2020 Honda Civic. The fuel pump almost failed, leading to unknown issues with the vehicle's operation. I can provide access to the vehicle for inspection at your convenience. This malfunction almost put my safety and the safety of others at risk. The vehicle almost stalled unexpectedly while stationary, creating a hazardous situation. The issue has been confirmed by an independent service center, where they noted the possible fuel pump's failure as the primary cause of the problems I've experienced. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer but I am prepared to facilitate this immediately. Prior to the attempted failure, I noticed a few warning symptoms, including sporadic engine sputtering. These symptoms first occurred approximately yesterday October 14th, 2024 at 9:36am. I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your response regarding the next steps to resolve this issue.
My fuel pump was causing some engine stalling and poor acceleration. It did not cause a breakdown but it could lead to flow disruptions of fuel, leading to potential breakdowns and costly repairs if not addressed promptly.
Vechicle was taken because the air blower was blowing hot. There is a recall the condenser on these cars but in addition the evaporator of the A/C equipement also has gone bad. They have said it needs to be replaced. The vechicel is still being paid for and its only has 38,593 miles. It definitely a manufacturing issue. They need to include this in their recalls.
There is a recall on my vehicle and I contacted Honda on April 1, 2024 to get the car repaired but was told there were no parts to repair the car. I tried to call back to schedule an appointment over 2 months later to remedy the recall but the dealership still does not have a solution or parts. This is unacceptable as it is unsafe to continue to drive the vehicle like this.
Clutch System/Transmission Failure 1st Occurrence: Driving on the highway one evening at 65 mph in July of 2021. The engine began revving and the clutch was no longer functional. The engine would rev and there was no ability for me to accelerate. The vehicle decelerated placing myself at risk of getting rear ended or side swiped by other vehicles on the highway until coming to an eventual stop on the side of the highway. The vehicle was no longer operational and was towed to the nearest Honda dealership which was John Eagle Honda. The inspection, service, and repair should be available for review at John Eagle Honda. 2nd Occurrence: May of 2023. As I was making a left turn, the clutch slipped significantly and the engine revved however, the clutch was still engaging but, acceleration was significantly hindered and increased the risk of getting into an accident as I was not able to pick up speed quick enough. The vehicle was serviced and repaired at David McDavid Honda of Irving in May of 2023. 3rd Occurrence: June of 2024. I was driving on the road when I noticed that the clutch was experiencing some slight slippage. Overall the vehicle was stable and it didn't cause much of an issue but, it was similar to what had happened previously. I still was not able to accelerate as I normally could. It still poses a risk of getting into an accident and hinders my ability to maneuver quickly if needed. The vehicle was service and repaired by David McDavid Honda. In either of these occurrences there was warning light indicators or other symptoms prior to the failures and slippage. John Eagle Honda of Dallas and David McDavid Honda of Irving are dealer centers. The vehicle was serviced by John Eagle 1 time and David McDavid Honda of Irving two times. In a span of 3 years. 3 clutch failures and the vehicle is under 43,000 miles. The dealers stated no recalls out on my vehicle and that everything is fine otherwise.
I was driving on 4/24/23 going 75 MPH. The car made a rev up noise and be RPM’s suddenly increased and the speed was decreasing. The car was losing power. I had to pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off and let it sit for awhile. The. When I started it back up it ran fine. This is a safety issue as I had to pull over on the highway and sit on the shoulder and could have been hit. No lights came on the dash at this time.
Once again the car loses ability to accelerate after driving at highway speeds and driving for about an hour. The car won’t accelerate and has to be turned off and has to sit for awhile. Sometimes the car struggles to start back up. This may happen several times when I drive. This is a safety issue as the car isn’t reliable and can’t just not accelerate on the highway. I feel this is related to the fuel pump recall and that my kind of civic needs to be included in this.
Again while driving at highway speeds the vehicle loses power. This is about the 10th time all this has happened. We have to pull over and turn the car off and let it sit for awhile. This time the oil light and the battery lights came on on the dash and then the air bag light and the electric power steering. After turning it off the car had a little trouble starting and then all the lights went away. This is my teenagers car and needs to be safe and reliable. I think this car needs to be included in the recent fuel pump recall.
PLEASE SE CASES 14345966, CASE 14345965 AND CASE 11565182.The report submitted verbally to NHTSA CASE 11565182 took place on 01/12/2023 at approximately 12:17pm. At one point, I requested from Ms. Lisa (NHTSA assistant) to read again back to me the particular report and she did. Consequently, I realized some miss interpretations. Therefore, I’m submitting this new information in order to be as accurate as possible. At approximately 49000 miles the air conditioning was checked and presented low in fluid. The system was refilled and the same problem reoccurred at approximately 52000 miles. On 12/29/2023 the vehicle was brought to be checked at Freeway Honda. The vehicle presents several different air conditioning leaks according to freeway Honda. It follows: A. Leak at A/C CONDENSER WA B. Leak at A/C COMPRESSOR SH C. Leak at EVAPORATOR. At one particular point, freeway Honda indicated that 2 of out of the 3 leaks would be covered under warranty. The particular freeway Honda dealer refused to fix the 2 A/C leaks unless if I would pay out of pocket the amount of $1,929.89+TAX to fix the 3rd leak as well. Furthermore, they charged me the amount of $175.00 to check for the leaks which should be covered under extended warranty. THE CAR HAS FACTORY A/C PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED BY THE HONDA AUTOMOBILE DIVISION. THERE ARE MORE PROBLEMS WHICH ALSO EXISTS AND IT SHOULD BE TAKEN UNDER CONSIDERATION. INITIALLY, HONDA STARTED EXTENDING WARRANTY FOR THE AIR CONDENSER. THEN, FOR THE COMPRESSOR. HOWEVER, THERE IS MUCH MORE. “The Civic AC systems are allegedly unable to withstand the pressures when circulating the R-1234yf coolant. Multiple air conditioning components allegedly cannot handle the pressure, including the condensers, compressors, evaporators and discharge and suction lines”. than the current used refrigerant, it is potentially dangerous as it is flammable and ignites 405 º C. When flammable- it also emits hydrogen fluoride- DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE FOR THE HUMAN HEALTH.

Yesterday I was driving my 2020 civic when my sunroof exploded spontaneously. I have dash cam(front and rear facing video) showing exactly what happened. No debris hit the car, no bumps were hit, and driving conditions were perfect. I know for a fact that this happened without any reason and I looked into it and there is currently a class action lawsuit with Honda about this problem. There is a problem in the manufacturing process that caused this and should be fixed.
Can turn engine off but goes into accessories mode and cannot be turned off. Drains battery. This has happened repeatedly. Only option is to disconnect battery every time after you drive and reconnect before starting. Also, navigation goes blank/black while driving.
I was driving down the road and all of a sudden I heard a large explosion and pulled back the moonroof visor a little and could see the glass was all spiderwebbed and closed it again, I was about 3 miles from home and had my 80+ mother in the car so I got home before looking at the damage and found a huge blow out of my Moonroof glass. Not sure if it was a stone or something that hit it or if it just blew out spontaneously, was a frightening situation.
In early October 2021, my inforainment display screen stooped working. As a consequence, my rear view, and right side view cameras no longer show on the display screen. This has become a safety issue for me because I cannot see if other vehicles are in the right lane when I am planning to change to the right lane, or planning to make a right turn. Also, I can no longer rely on my rear view camera when I am trying to back out of a parking spot, or my driveway. I took my car back to the dealer, and they told me that this HAS NOT been reported by other 2020 Honda Civic owners. They also told me that they need to order the part to repair it, but that it will take 2-6 weeks for the part to arrive. It has now been over 12 weeks and the part has not arrived. During the past 12 weeks, there were a few times where other drivers had to blow their horns at me as I tried to pass into the right lane. I have also had a few close encounters with pedestrians while I was backing out of a parking lot in shopping centers. Have any other 2020 Honda Civic owners reported problems with their infotainment display screens not working? Thank you

MY CAR WAS BROKEN INTO WHILE PARKED IN A PUBLIC PARKING LOT. THE 2020 CIVIC HAS A FEATURE WHERE ALL WINDOWS ROLL DOWN IF YOU PUT THE KEY INTO THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK AND TURN IT TO THE RIGHT. ACCORDING TO HONDA OF OAKLAND SERVICE CENTER, SOMEONE USED A SCREWDRIVER TO ACTIVATE THIS FEATURE, WHICH IN TURN ROLLED THE WINDOWS DOWN AND THEY WERE ABLE TO ACCESS THE TRUNK LATCH NEAR THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND STEAL ITEMS FROM MY TRUNK. THEY WERE THEN ABLE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS BACK UP USING THE SAME FEATURE (TURNING TO THE LEFT) AND I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A BREAK IN UNTIL LATE THE NEXT DAY WHEN I WENT TO RETRIEVE ITEMS FROM THE TRUNK. A RELATED FEATURE IS THAT THE KEY FOB ALLOWS YOU TO ROLL DOWN ALL WINDOWS SIMULTANEOUSLY BY HOLDING DOWN THE UNLOCK BUTTON. THIS FEATURE IS VERY SENSITIVE AND CAN BE ACTIVATED IN A POCKET OR PURSE. I TESTED OUT THE RANGE OF THE FEATURE AND WAS ABLE TO ROLL MY WINDOWS DOWN REMOTELY FROM OVER 200 FEET AWAY WHILE INSIDE A BUILDING WHEN MY CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE ACROSS THE STREET. I TWICE CAME BACK TO MY CAR WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN DUE TO THIS FEATURE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. THESE REMOTE WINDOW FEATURES POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY THREAT FOR CONSUMERS IN URBAN AREAS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE DOOR FEATURE CAN EVIDENTLY BE ACTIVATED WITH JUST A SCREWDRIVER, AND THE KEY CAN BE ACTIVATED FROM HUNDREDS OF FEET AWAY. NOT ONLY CAN PEOPLE BREAK INTO MY CAR WITHOUT ANY EQUIPMENT, BUT IT IS NOT EVIDENT FROM THE OUTSET THAT A BREAK-IN OCCURRED BECAUSE THE FEATURE ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO ROLL ALL THE WINDOWS BACK UP REMOTELY. THIS MAKES THE MODEL AN EASY TARGET FOR FUTURE THEFT, AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE TO REPAIR THE MECHANICAL DAMAGE TO THE LOCK/DOOR RESULTING FROM THIS BREAK IN.
