At speeds 35+ MPH the steering has a “sticky” “notch” feeling making steering at high speed very difficult to do smoothly, especially when cornering. This has led to close-calls nearly resulting in accidents, but fortunately being avoided. I suspect it has to do with the steering rack issue that is a common complaint with this MY.

Dec 23, 2025

I’ve taken my car to the dealer multiple times for an issue with steering and a loud clunk in my front end that wasn’t there when I bought it. I’ve constantly been told it’s normal or nothing is wrong but it’s becoming a real concern for me to drive I’ve almost been veered into oncoming traffic because the car wanders and steering doesn’t react very well. I’ve tried switching wheels and tires and still same issue. I need help because this car is unsafe to drive.

The steering system of my vehicle frequently locks, sticks, and slips, creating a serious safety hazard and putting both myself and others on the road at risk of losing control. I have reported this issue to Honda multiple times, but no permanent solution has been provided, and Honda denies that the problem exists. Two independent service centers have confirmed the issue. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but technicians at both Honda and the independent centers have observed the malfunction. The problem first occurred on 10/08/2024, and waiting for the lengthy arbitration process is unsafe. I request that NHTSA urgently investigate this issue.

The steering failed and caused an issue on my ball join, vc axle, nuckle, strut. I have a complaint before about the ball joint, looking at all of the cases, and the symptoms. I recall having issues like steering pooping, over steering, and having noices, . The car moved by itself with the steering and caused a lot of suspension problems driving into a pothole. The repair is over 5k. I have a case with Honda that says it is going to take time to inspect my vehicle in another department, and they want me to make an insurance claim affecting me. Honda doesn't want to inspect or have accountability for the issues that the factory or parts have. As a consumer, it is really frustrating that we deal with problems of the factory, but Honda doesn't have a solution or wants to help the affected customers. Previous NHTSA ID number: 11623030

Brand new vehicle and already having issues with steering. The steering wheel takes a lot of strength to steer, at first I thought it was an issue of me getting used to the car but a few days into having the car the recall notification came. I also compare it to multiple civic car my co workers own, it was not the same steering. The vehicle I test drove (hybrid civic - sport touring) was not the one I purchase which was definitely my mistake for not comparing them both. Dealership has been unresponsive, at first I tried calling and would hang up on me telling me the VIN was not valid. I attempted to reach the service desk with no luck. I finally went in person (I can provide names if needed of associate in service) and the advisor who helped me told me Honda was not fixing recalls after cars were purchased, only if they are unsold on the lot. He kept telling me to not worry about it and to trust him (total stranger who did not bother to look up the recall or inspect the vehicle). I repeated my self to make sure I understood him correctly and I asked again as plainly as possible: does Honda not intent on fixing safety recalls? and he told me no, not once the vehicle has been sold. I have been doubting myself for purchasing this car instead of the Subaru Impreza and now I hate myself the more for it, after this. The vehicle is exhausting to drive, I have a long commute to work 52 miles one way. I needed a vehicle to be safe and comfortable in. This was not it.

There is a recall to the steering on 2024 Honda civic. I had the steering pull on me towards the right. I am not entirely sure the cause, but would like to address this either way so there is not a potential loss of steering in the future.

The steering gearbox worm wheel in my 2024 Honda Civic (VIN: [XXX] ) has malfunctioned, creating increased friction and resistance, which poses a serious safety risk by compromising my ability to steer safely. This issue, confirmed by Honda’s recall notice (NHTSA Recall Number 24V-744), could lead to loss of control, increasing the risk of an accident. Despite contacting Honda and my dealership multiple times over the past month, no repair or inspection has been performed, and I’ve been unable to get a timeline for resolution. The steering also began making an unusual noise recently, heightening my concern. Given the unresolved safety defect and the car's diminished value, I believe this vehicle qualifies as a “lemon,” and I am seeking either a replacement or relief from the loan due to the financial and safety implications. Please help. I have purchased my 2024 Honda Civic last year in 2023. I’ve had my Honda Civic for a year now. I recently noticed my steering wheel “sticky” as some other 2022-2024 Honda Civic owners have reported and stated on all media’s after researching. This mainly occurs to me after the car has warmed up and or its at its normal temperatures and driving. The steering wheel can feel some “fight” even at 2 degree adjustment while driving. I feel unsafe to drive my car. I have read and discovered some have recalls for this matter of steering rack problems. Honda contacted me weeks after purchasing my Honda Civic and scheduled me to bring in my Honda to have it checked for the recall and apparently my Honda does not have a recall. I have called Honda today, 8/26/2024, and I explained what I am experiencing with my steering and they said due to my car being over 36k miles it’s no longer under warranty even though this problem seems to be more of a recall type and should not require to be under warranty. Perhaps this recall has not been called for yet or discovered and I am reaching out to get help. As I am concerned and I am worried about my safety the safety for others as I am driver and transport passengers on daily basis as part of my job. Please once again help with my case and please investigate. As part of researching I did discover a rough cost of the steering rack and it is expensive and it was just for the part not including labor. This is unsafe and unfair. I hope whoever reads my description can understand my situation and help me. I am willing to cooperate with any information needed for this investigation as I believe it to be a future recall especially since the car has not had any accidents nor damages whatsoever. Please help my case.

While driving down the road at speeds of 30mph or more, the steering wheel feels like it is sticking. It makes it noticeably harder to turn the steering wheel at speeds to make minor adjustments to stay in the lane. I took it to Honda and we are currently waiting on a new steering rack to come in to try and fix the problem. When taking it to 2 different dealers, they were both able to confirm the issue. There were no warnings or lights on the dash when the problem first occurred.

The steering on my car is sticky/notchy feeling. I took my car in for the steering rack recall and it was not on the list. This is a different issue but my steering feels extra sticky and hard to turn. My car is getting repaired under warranty now but I have to wait 5+ months for parts.

The car is constantly taking control while driving, I have the car for less than an hour brought it back to the dealership. The auto start and stereo was completely malfunctioning. Two days later after not driving for one brought it back and steering shaking and taking over and radio and power shut off. Had the car less than five days and in a second loaner car.

At about 3000 miles, and when it was cold, started to experience “sticky steering”. On the highway, at higher speeds, the car resists when making small movements away from straight ahead. I took it in for the separate steering rack recall; my car did not need work due to the recall. However, they will be replacing the steering rack because of the sticky issue. The part is backordered, with no ETA. They said it’s safe to drive, but it does make me nervous to go on the highway.

November 2023 - Present January 2024 - Current mileage 4900k Starting at roughly 3,000 - 4,000 miles, while going 55mph - 65mph and after driving for about half an hour / 30 minutes, the steering become sticky and no longer has a smooth operation or freely steering. The steering wheel slightly sticks to the left for a sec then releases creating a slight jerk motion to the opposite side. It has become quite dangerous to drive in any condition. So far the dealership has not found a way to duplicate the issue and can't seem to help. We have mentioned this issues to the dealership multiple times and dropped the car off with no luck of a fix. It has not been a great experience as we purchased new for my wife to commute to work and it's been nothing but a headache and dangerous for continue driving.

Steering wheel sticks when making small adjustments on highway after driving for a certain amount of time, usually 20-30 minutes. Will reset itself after cooling off and sitting overnight. When it sticks it takes more force than expected to unstick, causing my car to jerk in the lane. It started as it is getting colder outside, and the car is relatively still low mileage (5700mi).

I was driving on the Interstate had car on cruise control set at 70mph it began to slow to 60mph because of a vehicle in front of me so I moved to the left lane to go around and the vehicle just speed up (G5 force) on its own very quickly and reached speeds up to 80mph and would have kept accelerating past 80mph had I not disengaged the cruise control instead of braking. The second issue we have found was the steering became uncontrollable. It feels like the steering wheel gets stuck and hard to control to stay in your lane. You are not relaxed to drive this vehicle. Your body tenses up just to control the steering. We took it to the dealer for the steering recall but I don't think this is the issue. It is something more serious. We refused to drive our vehicle until it is repaired. A loner vehicle was given to us as the parts for the recall will not be in until April 2024.

Civic has just over 5500 miles on it and now traveling at highway speeds in a straight line it is difficult to move the steering wheel and it feels like it is stuck in a rut and requires a tug to get the wheel to turn. This happens at 50+ mph speed and I have tried it with road departure and lane keep off and it still happens. It you keep moving the wheel slightly it won’t do it but when trying to turn slightly after traveling straight for a while it occurs.
