The contact purchased a 2004 Honda CR-V. The vehicle was a private sale on July 17, 2025. The contact stated that after obtaining the Carfax Report, the contact noticed that the previous odometer reading indicated that the mileage was 300,000. The contact stated that the seller's advertisement indicated that the vehicle had low mileage. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the odometer indicated the mileage was 124,000. The seller was not made aware of the issue.

The headlights on both sides, specifically the low beams, will almost randomly turn off for up to 30 seconds. I used to drive about 90 miles at night, and on the highway this is dangerous since the speed limit is 65mph. It’s a danger to other people on the road since it’s incredibly difficult to see with the headlights turn off like that. It’s happened multiple times on my ~90 mile trips but have not taken it to a dealer for it to be checked. After the headlights come back on, it’s rare that it happens again but has happened multiple times within a quick span of each other. I’m quick to turn the high beams on, since they are still functional during this time. I don’t want to blind the vehicle in front of me by potentially shining the high beams through their rear view mirror. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the problem occurring nor after. The vehicle is available to be inspected.

The locking actuator gradually started going, where the locking knob would go down or up slowly as if it was stuck. Then one day the rear doors stopped working, then the front doors started to go. I have to unlock by key or manually inside the vehicle. Not only that though, I started having a weird not start situation. I tested the alternator and starter and were in good margin so I replaced the battery and it worked for a day then wouldn't start up the next day. All the interior lights are off just in case there was some sort of parasitic outlet that is constantly draining the battery. Ive gone through 3 batteries and was about to replace the starter in case there was a bad cell until I found out that the 2004 honda crv community has 600+ complaints for the door actuators draining the battery for this vehicle. There should be a recall and this should be covered at 100% or at least a percentage.
Front and rear driver side windows stop working after heavy rain. There was a safety recall for this, however my VIN is not included but I believe it should be.

POWER WINDOWS DO NOT WORK
WELL MY KEY IS IN THE IGNITION I CANNOT LIFT OR LOWER THE PASSENGER OR REAR PASSENGER WINDOWS WITHOUT BLOWING FUSES. I HAVE TRIED REPLACING FUSES COUNTLESS TIMES THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENS. I HAVE READ AND TALK TO MECHANICS THAT IT IS A MASTER SWITCH ISSUE. A RECALL FROM HONDA IS OUT FOR THIS CURRENT ISSUE OF THE MASTER SWITCH: NHTSA # 20V-768. BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL. IF YOU CAN PLEASE REVIEW THIS AND GET BACK TO ME BECAUSE I NEED THIS ISSUE FIXED I CANNOT ROLL ANY OF MY WINDOWS DOWN WITHOUT BLOWING FUSES I'M AFRAID IT CAN CAUSE OVERHEATING OR FIRE I NEED THIS FIXED. WOLFCHASE HONDA (2982 N GERMANTOWN PKWY, BARTLETT, TN 38133, (901) 255-3700) STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS NEEDED REPLACEMENT, BUT THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD REMEDY THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING WAS LEAKING FLUID, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW IF IT WAS THE STEERING PUMP OR HOSE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DISASSEMBLE THE POWER STEERING TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING MAY LAST UNTIL MARCH. THE CONTACT ALSO HAD DIFFICULTY PLACING ALL FOUR KEYS IN THE IGNITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

FAULTY DOOR LOCKS CAUSING THE NEED TO MANUALLY USE THE KEY AND IN THE CASE OF THE REAR DOORS - THE INABILITY TO UNLOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE. ISSUE STARTED WITH ONE DOOR LOCK (DRIVER REAR) AND NOW HAS STARTED ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. THIS IS A PERMANENT DEFAULT AS IT NOW DOES NOT FUNCTION.
THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. YOU HAVE TO USE THE KEY IN THE DRIVERS DOOR TO MANUALLY OPEN IT. THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK SWITCH WILL ONLY UNLOCK THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. YOU HAVE TO CLIMB AROUND INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO OPEN REAR DOORS. TO LOCK THE DOORS YOU HAVE TO WALK AROUND TO EACH DOOR AND OPEN IT TO MANUALLY LOCK THEM TO SECURE VEHICLE OR CRAWL BACK THROUGH THE VEHICLES INTERIOR TO LOCK THE DOORS. THE REMOTE CAN ONLY OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER LOCK EVEN THOUGH YOU HEAR NOISES OCCURRING TRYING TO UNLOCK THE OTHER DOORS. THE REMOTE IS USELESS. THIS IS NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE BUT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

THE REAR WINDOWS WERE NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. HAD A FRIEND TAKE THE FAMILY HOME AND DROVE THE CAR MYSELF HOME AND PARKED IT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT A RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH ( 12V486000 10/05/2012 2002 TO 2005 CRV )WAS MADE INCLUDING 2004 CRV MODELS FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. CONTACTED HONDA SUPPORT TO FIND OUT WHY WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED. ACCORDING TO HONDA SUPPORT, OUR MODEL IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE WE HAVE A DIFFERENT VIN THAN THE SAME YEAR MODELS THAT WERE RECALLED FOR THE VERY SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS DRIVING AND FIRE HAZZARD!. I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THEY TAKE SERIOUS. WE ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS ISSUE. MY WINDOW CAME DOWN ON ITS OWN TODAY AND THERE WAS SMOKE AND A VERY STRONG BURNING SMELL. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW AND HE STATED THE INSIDES WERE MELTED BECAUSE SOME WIRES WERE BURNING. I READ ONLINE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES.

FIREFIGHTERS HAD TO BE CALLED AND THEY HAD TO WET THE CAR AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THIS MODE VEHICLE AND YEAR SHOWS 5 OPEN RECALLS, BUT WHEN I SEARCH BY VIN# IT SHOWS NO OPEN RECALLS. I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE DRIVING THE CAR.

WHEN GOT BACK INTO CAR 10 MINUTES LATER, NOTICED BAD SMELL AND YELLOW SMOKE COMING FROM MAIN WINDOW CONTROL PANEL ON DOOR BEFORE EVEN TURNING THE IGNITION ON. HAD TO PULL THE FUSE FOR THE WINDOWS TO STOP IT FROM SMOKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I BOUGHT IT OFF THE LOT. REPLACED PART ON MAY 21, 2011 AND PAID OUT OF POCKET. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AMERICA (CASE # 04205532) THIS MORNING AND SPOKE WITH "SERINITY" OF THE PRODUCT CONCERN SECTION OF HONDA AMERICA AND BASICLLY SHE IS TELLING ME BECAUSE MY PARTICILAR VEHCILE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JAPAN (VIN # STARTING WITH A "J") THAT NO RECALLS APPLY TO ME. BUT YET I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE OF THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR. HONDA BASICALLY HAS STATED THAT THEY CANNOT OFFER ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A NON-DEALER MECHANIC FOR AIR-CONDITIONING SERVICES AND THEY STATED TO ME 2 + YEARS AGO THAT THIS VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO HAVE A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE AC CLUTCH ON THE AC PUMP WAS DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE AND THUS HEATS UP AND SHATTERS INTO MANY PIECES AND FLOWS THOUGH THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM THUS REQUIRING THAT THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED (HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN # 12-072). HONDA HAS ISSUED A CAMPAIGN INCREASING THE AC SYSTEM WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS/ 100,000 MILES, BUT AGAIN THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE, YET I HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES ON MY VEHICLE. FROM 2004 UNTILL HEADLITE ISSUE SOLVED. / AT 51,882 MI CONDENSER AND COMPRESSOR WENT OUT, AT 63,985 AC OUT AGAIN THIS TIME COMDENSER OUT AND COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP LEAVING ME STRANDED ON A MTN ROAD YARDS FROM A BLIND CURVE, AC OUT AGAIN AT 84,948 FOR THE 3RD TIME FORCING ME TO DRIVE IN 90 TO 102 TEMP FROM HAMPSTEAD, NC FOR 14 HRS TO LUMBERTON, MS, LEAVING MYSELF AND MY DOG SUFFERING FROM HEAT EXHAUSTION / WINTER 2012, PRIOR TO LAST AC ISSUES, PROBLEMS WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS RAISING. HAD TO USE POWER BUTTON AND HAVE MANUAL ASSISTANCE ON WINDOWS TO GET UP. IN SPRING, I ACCIDENTALLY PUT WINDOW DOWN, HOWEVER IT RAISED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. / I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL ON ANY ISSUES WITH THIS HONDA UNTIL THE END OF MACH 2015. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL 2004 AND I NOTICED THE FIRST AIRBAG RECALL BEING JUNE 2004. / OTHER ISSUES: VENT SWIVERAL BROKE OFF, HOOD RELEASE LEVER BROKE OFF, MILEAGE LITE OUT, IN CABIN AIR LITE STAYS ON, GLOVE BOX LITE STAYS ON./ THIS VECHICLE HAS ALMOST GOT ME KILLED ON TWO OCCASIONS-1) WHEN THE LITES WENT OFF ON PCH 1 AT DUSK, HAD IT BEEN DARK AND THERE WAS NO PULL OVER I COULD HAVE ENDED UP IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN. 2) WHEN THE CONDENSER WENT OUT AND THE COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP ON A MTN ROAD IN MT I WAS YARDS FROM A BLIND CURVE WITH NO SHOULDER OR WAY TO MOVE CAR FOR 2 1/2 HRS WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK IN HAIL STORM. SUMMARY: WHILE DRIVING, THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH OVERHEATED AND BEGAN TO EMIT A STRONG BURNING ODOR. AFTERWARDS THE LEFT REAR WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE. SINCE I INITIALLY DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM, I WENT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR BUT THEY COULDN'T. AFTER SNIFFING AROUND, I FOUND THE SOURCE OF ODOR, THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH. I HAD THE DEALER REMOVE THE FUSE FOR SAFETY REASONS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THEY SHOWED ME WITH THE VEHICLE IN THE AIR THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE CONDENSING UNIT OF MY VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT,THEY STATED THAT THE HOLE WAS BLOWN IN THE UNIT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AFTER THAT. THE MECHANICS THERE SAID THAT I MUST HAVE RUN INTO A PIECE OF METAL. A CALL TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP RESULTED IN A VERY EXPENSIVE QUOTE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HARNESS (SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS). I TOOK IT TO HONDA, THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SOUND I HEAR AND SINCE ITS NOT A MANUFACTURE WARRANTY, I DID SEND IN THE WARRANTY TO THE RADIO AND I THOUGHT THE RADIO AND THE LOCKS ARE CONNECTED ON MY VEHICLE FOR SECURITY PURPOSES. BEEN HAVING MEDICAL PROBLEMS, DON'T KNOW IF THE SHOCK COULD OF CONTRIBUTED TO IT. I THINK I KEEP GETTING SHOCKED EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. THE NUMBER OF FAILURES WOULD BE A NUMBER I WOULDN'T KNOW SINCE IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY. *NM
I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 61/2 MILES WHEN THE DRIVE LIGHT (LIGHT SHOWING THE GEAR YOU ARE USING) WENT OUT AND THE CAR STARTED TO STALL. THE GEAR LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CONTINUED THE 2 1/2 MILES HOME. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUG. 2003, AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT IT PROBABLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS VERY CLOSE TO NEEDING THE 40,000 MILE MAINTENANCE. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT OVER THE WEEKEND AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. MY HUSBAND AND I DROVE IT TO INDIANA LIKE WE HAD PLANNED, TO BRING BACK SOME ITEMS FROM HIS GRANDMOTHERS, GARAGE. WE HAD NO PROBLEMS ON SATURDAY, BUT ON SUNDAY JUST OUTSIDE OF FT. WAYNE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GEAR LIGHT WENT OUT. WE TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER SHIP ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY. WE LEFT THE CAR AND RENTED A VEHICLE TO GET HOME. THE HONDA MECHANICS HAD THE CRV FOR A WEEK BUT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. WE PICKED THE CAR UP THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY AND BY THE TIME WE MADE IT TO THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WAS ACTING UP AGAIN. WE DROVE BACK TO COLUMBUS PULLING OVER EVER 7 OR 8 MINUTES TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF FOR 5 MINUTES. ABOUT HALF WAY HOME THE CAR STALLED AT A RED LIGHT. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES BEFORE WE MADE IT HOME. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED OVER THE LAST 10 WEEKS. IT HAS BEEN BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN SOLVED WHEN SOME WIRING WAS REPLACED BUT THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. TODAY IS AUGUST 19TH AND IT HAS BEEN 11 WEEKS OF HEADACHES AND STRESS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK

ON 11/24/04 I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE WHEN MY ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS SUDDENLY CAME ON. I FELT AS IF MY BREAKS WERE NOT GOING TO WORK. I PULLED OFF AT THE NEAREST EXIT TRYING TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. AS I GOT OFF THE EXIT, SMOKE BEGAN TO BILLOW INTO THE CAR FROM THE VENTS. A MAN APPROACHED ME FROM BEHIND AND INFORMED ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL THAT MOMENT. APPARENTLY, IT HAD BEEN SHOOTING FLAMES OUT FROM THE FRONT WHEEL WELLS. MY CAR HAD ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. MY OIL CHANGE WAS FOUR MONTHS EARLIER WITH NO SIGNS OF ANY OIL LEAKS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE FUMES CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ASTHMA ATTACK, EVEN AFTER THE FIRE WAS OUT AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A HONDA BODY SHOP. BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAY, THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL 11/29 OR 30. I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT WILL BE TOTALED OR NOT. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT RESIDUAL EFFECTS FROM THE FIRE AFFECTING MY RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS. FURTHER, I' M CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING ANOTHER 2004 VEHICLE THAT MAY PRESENT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. OR, EVEN A 2005, IF THE PROBLEM WILL EXIST IN THAT AS WELL.*AK

I WENT OUT TO MEET THE TECHNICIAN AND HE OPENED THE HOOD. SMOKE CAME POURING OUT AND WE NOTICED OIL SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ENGINE. WE GOT OUR FIRST OIL CHANGE AND AFTERWARDS MY CAR STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD AND THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I CALLED MY BOYFRIEND TO COME HELP ME 15 QUARTS OF OIL LATER AND 2 FILTERS LATER, IT WAS FINALLY NOTICED THE ORIGINAL O RING HAD MELTED TO THE BLOCK. THE OIL HAD SPRAYED ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND STARTED TO BURN. HAD I NOT PULLD OVER WHEN I HAD MY CAR PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. I PULLED OVER JUST IN TIME. MY BOYFRIEND SEEMS TO THINK THAT THIS HAPPENED BACAUSE OF WHERE THE POSITION OF THE OIL FILTER IS BASICALLY IT IS TO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE RING IS GETTING TO HOT AND MELTING TO THE BLOCK.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH CONSUMER WAS WARNED BY ANOTHER MOTORIST THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER, AND THE CONSUMER STOPPED THE ENGINE. IMMEDIATELY, THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, BUT CONTINUED TO SMOKE. ONCE THE SMOKE CLEARED CONSUMER COULD SEE THAT THE WIRES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WERE MELTED. SEVERAL NEWS PAPERS WERE RUNNING ADDS CONCERNING FAULTY OIL CHANGES BY HONDA MECHANICS.*AK

ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9, 2004 MY 2004 HONDA CRV CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP FROM HAVING 1ST OIL CHANGE. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS "THE OLD O-RING/GASKET WAS NOT REMOVED AND A NEW ONE ADDED ON TOP OF OLD ONE". HOWEVER YESTERDAY WHEN I WENT BY TO GET THINGS OUT OF OTHER CAR I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT CAUSED FIRE. DEALERSHIP WANTED TO REPAIR CAR AND GIVE IT BACK TO ME, BUT I REFUSED. AFTER WATCHING MY CAR BURN I JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT BACK....AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF DISCUSSION AND TO THE POINT OF ME WALKING OUT AND GETTING LEGAL HELP, THEY GAVE ME A NEW 2004 CRV. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I FIND OUT FROM A CO-WORKER THAT HIS PARENTS WHO OWN A 2004 HONDA CRV ALSO CAUGHT ON FIRE AND WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE. THIS COUPLE IN THEIR 70'S ESCAPED UNHARMED. THEY HAD JUST HAD THEIR 1ST OIL CHANGE DAY BEFORE. I HAVE TALKED TO AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION AND THEY ASSURED ME THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CARS BUT YET THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON WEBSITES TALKING ABOUT 2004 CRV FIRES. EVEN THOUGH I WAS GIVEN A NEW CAR I AM NOW AFRAID OF IT AND WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM VERY CONCERNED IF THERE IS A PROBLEM HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS IT BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED.*AK
