There was no tell tail signs, my son and I got out of the vehicle and walked inside the Hampton Inn in deming nm standing in line waiting some lady runs in saying there's a car on fire outside so I walked outside and saw it was my car. A fire extinguisher was used the battery and driver side headlight was melted fire damage on driver side only

The contact owns a 2005 Honda CR-V. The contact stated the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V768000 (Visibility, Electrical System), and the power window switch on the driver’s side was replaced with a water-resistant switch. The contact stated while opening the front driver’s side door, the power window switch was wet from previous rainfall. In addition, the contact noticed after attempting to roll down the four windows, the power window switches failed to respond. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The vehicle had had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V768000 (Visibility, Electrical System). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,900.

Approximately 2-3 months ago as I was driving I smelled a warm, buring electical smell coming from the left door. Immediately after this I had noticed my driver side lock, power mirror controls, would not work on the drivers side. After speaking with my mechanic I was told that this issue has a current safety bulletin opened for it. Today I took my car to Apple Honda of York to have the recall taken care of. The issues persisted and Honda refused to inspect the door wiring. The remedy of this solution was to be as follows: Remedy Please call any authorized Honda dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. The dealer will replace the power window master switch and INSPECT THE WIRING HARNESS FOR PROBLEMS, replacing it if necessary, for free. For additional questions or to get help locating a dealer, owners may contact American Honda Customer Support and Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. This dealership only replaced the switch but did not inspect the wiring or wiring harness in detail for issues that certainly could have occurred due to this safety recall. I still wonder from time to time while driving if the wiring will short causing a fire and explained this to the Honda dealership. I have followed up with Honda of America to report this issue which is currently being investigated by a case worker. (Incident #: [XXX]) I believe the dealership was not interested in resolving my safety concerns regarding this matter. My driver power window switch melted and failed in the same way described in the current recall for the same model and year vehicle, just not under the SHS vin numbers that are covered. I suspect this recall should cover more cars than previously thought. I noticed this problem after heavy rains, first my windows stopped rolling up and down, then I began noticed a burring/melting plastic smell coming from the drivers door. I took the door apart and tracked the smell down to the power master switch. After inspecting the switch, it was indeed the switch that melted on the circuit board. It seems to have damaged the driver wiring door harness as well, also like the current recall states. All just as described in the current safety recall which I have attached below. **Safety Recall: 2002-06 CR-V Driver’s Power Window Switch (Only VINs that start with SHS) ''under severe conditions, water or other liquid may enter the driver’s window and reach the power window master switch on the door panel. Liquid in the switch can damage the switch’s printed circuit board (PCB), causing the switch to fail. In rare cases, the damaged PCB creates a short circuit that overheats the switch connectors and melts them, leading to a possible fire.'' All affected vehicles, even those previously repaired under S/B 12-067, must have the driver's power window switch replaced under the current recall.

THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW WONT GO DOWN INTERMITTENTLY WHICH I CONSIDER A DANGER AS WE HAVE A BRIDGE THAT CARS HAVE BEEN SHOVED OFF INTO THE WATER AND IT SCARES ME THAT IT COULD HAPPEN TO ME AND I WOULD NEED THAT WINDOW TO GO DOWN SO I CAN ESCAPE BEFORE THAT WINDOW FAILS OR THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT MULTIPLE TIMES BUT OF COURSE IT WONT DO IT WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR IS ALMOST ALWAYS STATIONARY WHEN THE WINDOW WONT GO DOWN. THERE IS NO SIGN OF MOISTURE ENTERING THE BULB/LIGHT AREA. THIS IS A CONSTANT SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME SINCE THE PROBLEM MEANS I AM OFTEN DRIVING WITH ONLY ONE HEADLIGHT. LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR, WE'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM BULBS EVERY FEW WEEKS. THEY BURN OUT AT COMPLETELY RANDOM TIMES (ITS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE IN MOTION AND STATIONARY, IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS AS WELL AS OUT DRIVING THROUGH COUNTRYSIDE, FREEWAYS; BASICALLY EVERYWHERE). NOT ONLY IS THIS AN INCONVENIENCE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON REPLACEMENTS, IT'S ALSO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THEY'VE BURNED OUT ON NIGHT DRIVES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE WHERE OUR ONLY OPTION WAS TO USE HIGH BEAMS THE REST OF THE WAY, ETC. UNACCEPTABLE THAT HONDA HAS NOT YET ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AS BEING AN ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE UP THROUGH 2004 CR-V'S BUT THEY'VE NOT EXTENDED TO THE 05 MODEL YEAR.

FRONT DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT KEEPS BURNING OUT. I HAVE TO KEEP CHANGING IT EVERY FEW MONTHS. NOW, IT APPEARS THAT THE HEADLIGHT HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. LOW BEAM IS VERY DIM AND THE HIGH BEAM DOES NOT WORK. I ALSO EXPERIENCED OTHER TYPE OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES. VERY OFTEN, THE FUEL CAP WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO START ON THE FIRST COLD DAY OF THE SEASON. WHEN CHECKING THE VOLTAGE ON THE BATTERY, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE POSITIVE CONNECTION. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ORIGINAL CLAMP HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH AN AFTER-MARKET CLAMP. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED CORROSION BACK THROUGH THE CABLE ITSELF WHICH WOULD NOT ALLOW CUTTING THE AFFECTED CABLE BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO SHORT TO REACH THE BATTERY. *TR

THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE THE BULB I NOTICED THE ELEMENT WAS NOT BROKEN INSIDE THE BULB. AT THAT POINT I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC TOOK THE BULB FROM THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND PUT IT INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND TOOK THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND PUT IT INTO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT. HE DID NOT REPLACE EITHER BULB. THIS APPEARED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE BRIGHT WHEN TURNED ON. ABOUT A MONTH LATER IN THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER, AGAIN THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE, THE BULB WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE BUT NOT SHINING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BY THE SAME MEANS AS BEFORE (SWITCHING LIGHT BULBS) OR BY REPLACING THEM WITH NEW BULBS. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS START TO PULSE OR FLICKER (2 TO 3 TIMES A SECOND) CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. HAVE TO REPLACE LOW BEAM BULBS EVERY 3 TO 5 MONTHS. BOTH LOW BEAM LIGHTS INADVERTENTLY TURN OFF AND ON FOR A FEW SECONDS BUY THEMSELVES. HIGH BEAM LIGHTS SEAM TO WORK FINE. THE ABOVE ISSUES I LISTED ARE THE SAME OR SIMILAR TO THOSE IN THE HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 12-023 THAT COVERS A RECALL FOR THE 2002-04 CRV. I BELIEVE THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD BE AMENDED TO COVER THE 2005 HONDA CRV BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THIS ONGOING SAFETY FAILURE. HONDA AMERICA TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. HEADLIGHT BULBS FAIL FREQUENTLY (ANYWHERE FROM APPROXIMATELY 3-6 MONTHS) FOR NO APPARENT REASON. USUALLY ONE SIDE AT A TIME. NORMALLY, REPLACING THE BULB HAS BEEN AN EFFECTIVE (IF EXPENSIVE) SOLUTION. HOWEVER, MOST RECENTLY, REPLACING THE BULB DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. FUSES ARE ALL O.K. FROM SEVERAL ON-LINE FORUMS, THIS IS A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN OUTSTANDING RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR MODEL YEARS 2002-2004 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V136000). WE BOUGHT OUR 2005 CR-V SE IN SUM 10 AND LOVE THE VEHICLE. SINCE THEN HOWEVER, WE'VE HAD TO CHANGE HEADLIGHT BULBS APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 12 TIMES. SOMETIMES A SINGLE BULB, SOMETIMES BOTH... THEY SIMPLY GO OUT EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. WE EVEN HAD TO RIDE HOME ONE NIGHT WITH "HIGH BEAMS" BECAUSE THE BOTH LOW BEAMS SIMPLY FAILED. THE NEXT DAY WE PURCHASED NEW BULBS, INSTALLED THEM ON THE CR-V, AND NOW THE LOW-BEAMS WORK, BUT THE HIGH BEAMS DO NOT. IT'S KIND OF GETTING OLD BUYING NEW BULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS! MY PROBLEM/CONCERN IS THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A KNOWN RECALL FOR A EXTREMELY SIMILAR ISSUE ON 2002 THRU 2004 CR-V MODELS. THAT RECALLS SUMMARY STATES: "DUE TO TENSION FROM THE COMBINATION SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, WEAR ON THE SURFACE OF THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL CAN OCCUR, YIELDING COPPER OXIDE, WHICH INCREASES ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE. INCREASED ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE MAY CAUSE THE TERMINAL ENDS TO MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR." THE CONSEQUENCE LISTED ON THIS RECALL IS: "IF THE TERMINAL ENDS MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE, REDUCING DRIVER VISIBILITY AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE, IT SEEMS THE RECALL LISTED ABOVE SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE 2005 CR-V MODELS AS WELL. THE DRIVER SIDE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH FAILED CAUSING THE PART TO GET VERY HOT, MELT, AND EMIT SMOKE FROM THE SWITCH. THIS COULD HAVE VERY EASILY STARTED A LARGE FIRE IN THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE SWITCH IS MELTED, IT SHORTS OUT THE CIRCUIT CAUSING THE FUSES TO POP AND THE WINDOW WILL NO LONGER OPERATE. I CONTACTED A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND DISCOVERED THE SAME PART # USED IN THE 2006 MODEL IS RECALLED FOR THIS VERY SAME REASON. I BELIEVE THIS AFFECTS MORE PARTS THAN ARE COVERED BY THE RECALL AS A QUICK LOOK ON THE WEB UNCOVERED SEVERAL MORE CASES FOR 2005 MODELS. *TR

MY HONDA CR-V HAS HAD THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS. THEY USUALLY GO OUT ONE AT A TIME, BUT THIS PAST WEEKEND, THEY BOTH WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. PLEASE EXTEND NHTSA EXISTING INVESTIGATION INTO HEADLAMPS ON THE 2002-2004 MODELS INTO MODEL YEAR 2005 AND FORWARD. WE HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMP BULBS MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. THE MOST RECENT BULB REPLACEMENT BURNED OUT WITHIN 2 MONTHS. WE HAVE RECEIVED A TICKET FOR A HEADLAMP OUT. OUR MECHANIC REPLACED NOT ONLY THE DRIVERS' SIDE BULB BUT THE ASSEMBLY THAT THE BULB FITS INTO - LASTED LESS THAN 8 WEEKS. THE FOLLOWING IS A PROBLEM THAT I HAVE WITH MY VEH, WHICH I HOPE YOU CAN RESOLVE. CR.V 2005 VIN # [XXX] MAINTENANCE HISTORY: ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WERE PERFORMED BY HONDA OF NANUET. PROBLEM: APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AFTER PURCHASE THE LED LIGHTS OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, STARTING FROM THE LEFT SIDE, BEGIN TO GO OUT. RESULTING THAT DURING NIGHT-TIME DRIVING I AM UNABLE TO SEE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND PART OF THE RPM GAUGE. DURING A SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE I BROUGHT THIS SITUATION UP, TO THE SVC MGR WHO PROMPTLY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT A COVERED ITEM. I MENTIONED THAT I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MORE OF THE LED LIGHTS HAVE STOPPED WORKING; THE ONLY LIGHTS THAT CONTINUE TO WORK ARE THE ONES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SPEEDOMETER THAT LIGHT UP 120MPH THRU 140MPH. THIS SITUATION IN MY OPINION IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ONE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. AND MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE. THE LEDS OBLIVIOUSLY WERE DEFECTIVE FROM THE BEGINNING AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN NANUET. SINCE THIS SITUATION IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS- SINCE I DO USE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, I AM RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT HONDA REPLACE THE LEDS LIGHTS AT NO COST TO ME. I SPOKE WITH MR SERGIO SALVADOR, CUST SVC ON 4/1/10 WHO SIMPLY STATED THAT I SHOULD'VE DONE SOMETHING EARLIER. I TOLD THAT I DID INFORMED THE DEALER SERVICE MGR TWO YEARS AFTER PURCHASE, OF THE PROBLEM AND MY CONCERN ABOUT MY SAFETY DRIVING AT NIGHT, I ALSO TOLD THAT THIS DEFECT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH SEVERE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES, AND FURTHER EMPHASIZED THAT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM 3 YEARS AGO BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. MR. SALVADOR STILL MAINTAINED THAT HONDA WOULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR. I TOLD HIM THAT THE LED LIGHTS MUST HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE FROM THE ONSET. THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION. I HAVE A 2005 HONDA CRV PURCHASED NEW FROM JEFF WYLER HONDA IN FLORENCE, KY. TWICE NOW, MY IGNITION HAS SIMPLY SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. ONCE THIS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY (IN 2006) AND AGAIN THIS WEEK (2007) ON A BUSY ROAD. WHEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF, THE GREEN KEY ICON IN THE DASH FLASHES. LUCKILY BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC, SHIFT INTO PARK AND RESTART. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY, BUT IT'S A REALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING 65 MPH AND YOUR CAR SHUTS ITSELF OFF. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I HAD ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON THE CAR. NOW I HAVE NEARLY 60,000. OTHERWISE, THE CRV IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON HONDA CRV IGNITION SWITCHES IN 2002, AND THE DESCRIPTION SOUNDED IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING. I THINK THAT THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM YET. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR DURING EVENING IN LOW TRAFFIC ON 4 LANE URBAN ROAD. THE ENGINE STALLED ABRUPTLY AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND GAUGE INDICATORS FELL TO ZERO. COINCIDENT WITH THE STALL, THE CAR LOST STEERING (THE STEERING WHEEL COULD BE MOVED NO MORE THAN 1-2 INCHES TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, WITH REFERENCE TO STEERING WHEEL CIRCUMFERENCE), WOULD NOT BRAKE (WITH FULL WEIGHT PRESSURE ON PEDAL), AND WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP BY ENGINE DRAG AND APPLICATION OF EMERGENCY BRAKE. RESTARTING REQUIRED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. HAD THIS PROBLEM MANIFESTED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A CURVE AT FREEWAY SPEED, A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN INEVITABLE. *JB
