THE BULBS IN MY LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONTINUALLY BURN OUT WHILE IN MOTION, USUALLY ON A RURAL HIGHWAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY ON DARK COUNTRY ROADS. TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA, I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE BULBS 3-4 TIMES PER YEAR ON EACH HEADLIGHT. FROM A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH, I CAN SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR MANY, MANY HONDA CRV OWNERS. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THE 2002-2004 MODELS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V136000) - WILL YOU PLEASE EXPAND THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE THE 2005? IF BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO DARK AT THE SAME TIME, IT WILL PROBABLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WITH THIS HAPPENING SO OFTEN ON THE 2005, THE LIKELIHOOD OF AN ACCIDENT INCREASES. PLEASE HELP. (THE LATEST DATE OF 12/1/2020 WHEN MY LIGHT BURNED OUT IS IN THE FIELD BELOW, BUT IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THIS YEAR.)

LOW BEAMS STOPPED WORKING WHILE PARKED THANKFULLY. I REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH, THINKING THAT IT WAS CAUSING THE ISSUE, AND NOTICED THAT A TERMINAL IN THE CONNECTOR WAS BURNT SO BAD THAT IT CARRIED OTHER TERMINALS, CAUSING THE HIGH BEAMS TO STOP WORKING AS WELL. ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER CARS OF THE SAME MODEL AND IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMP WAS REPLACED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED AND WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES IN ONE YEAR. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT COULD NOT VIEW THE GAUGES. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PROVIDED REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE CAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO EXHIBITED TIRE CUPPING FOR THE REAR TIRES. THE TIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED EVERY 2.5 YEARS DUE TO EXCESSIVE TREADWEAR ON THE REAR TIRES. THE CONTACT HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 3,000 MILES; HOWEVER, THE REAR TIRE CUPPING CONTINUED. FIRST TEAM HONDA (3444 WESTERN BRANCH BLVD, CHESAPEAKE, VA 23321, (757) 337-6597) AND WILLIAMSBURG HONDA (7101 RICHMOND RD, WILLIAMSBURG, VA 23188, (757) 564-4671) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE 2005 CR-V HAS THE SAME PART, FAILURE, AND REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR THE LIGHT SWITCH WIRE HARNESS LOCATED IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I FEEL A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD APPLY TO MY VEHICLE, SINCE IT IS THE SAME FAILURE, SAME PART TO REPLACE AND SAME DANGER. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED ISSUE ON THE HONDA SERVICE BOARDS.

THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE SAME AS THE ONE FOR THE RECALL OF 2002-2004 CR-VS AND HAS BEEN REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OWNERS. I CONTACTED HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VIN OF MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED AND UNLESS THE VIN WAS PART OF THE RECALL, THEY WOULD NOT HONOR CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. THEY BURN OUT AT COMPLETELY RANDOM TIMES (ITS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE IN MOTION AND STATIONARY, IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS AS WELL AS OUT DRIVING THROUGH COUNTRYSIDE, FREEWAYS; BASICALLY EVERYWHERE). NOT ONLY IS THIS AN INCONVENIENCE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON REPLACEMENTS, IT'S ALSO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THEY'VE BURNED OUT ON NIGHT DRIVES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE WHERE OUR ONLY OPTION WAS TO USE HIGH BEAMS THE REST OF THE WAY, ETC. UNACCEPTABLE THAT HONDA HAS NOT YET ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AS BEING AN ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE UP THROUGH 2004 CR-V'S BUT THEY'VE NOT EXTENDED TO THE 05 MODEL YEAR.

I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT BULBS, AND HAVE DETERMINED IT IS NOT ANY PARTICULAR TYPE OR QUALITY. THE NEW BULB WILL TYPICALLY LAST 1-3 MONTHS. THIS HAS BEEN COSTLY, AS WELL AS DANGEROUS FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. I ALSO PREFER TO DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY FOR SAFETY, WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE WHEN THEY ARE GOING OUT EVERY 1-3 MONTHS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS, AND HAD FOUND IT TO BE A VERY COMON PROBLEM. I FOUND A POSSIBLE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2002-2004 MODELS, BUT MINE IS A 2005 MODEL IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OTHERS ARE REPORTING. FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, AND OTHERS ON THE ROADWAY, AS WELL AS THE NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, I WOULD REQUEST THIS PROBLEM BE CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY RECALL. WHEN REPLACED, THEY WILL LAST ONLY A YEAR OR SO BEFORE BURNING OUT AGAIN. WE NOTICE THEY'RE BURNED OUT WHEN WE'RE DRIVING. WE USE THE HEADLIGHTS BOTH DURING THE DAY (FOR SAFETY) AND OF COURSE AT NIGHT. WE'VE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF REPLACEMENT LAMPS, BUT NONE SEEM TO CHANGE THE PATTERN OF LAMP LIFE. MOST RECENTLY, I'VE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS FOUR TIMES (2 EACH SIDE) WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. LAST NIGHT WHEN TESTED AFTER REPLACEMENT, THE PASSENGER SIDE LAMP ONLY GLOWED (DUE TO A BAD GROUND CONNECTION?) AND MYSTERIOUSLY, THE BRIGHT BEAM LAMP ON THE SAME SIDE HAD ALSO QUIT WORKING. I HAVE DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY ONE MILLION MILES IN OTHER VEHICLES OVER THE PAST 27 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH SUCH FREQUENCY. BECAUSE OF THE FREQUENCY AND SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS DUE TO THE UNEXPECTED RECURRENCES, I HAVE NO CHOICE NOW BUT TO ASK THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS ENOUGH PROBLEM WITH OTHER MODEL YEARS OF THE SAME VEHICLE THAT IT HAS GENERATED SAFETY RECALLS. PLEASE WIDEN YOUR INVESTIGATION AND RESULTS TO INCLUDE SUBSEQUENT MODEL YEARS OF THE HONDA CRV'S, SPECIFICALLY 2005.

I HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS IN MY 2005 HONDA CRV 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. I WAS CAUTIOUS WITH THE LIGHTS DURING INSTILLATION MAKING SURE TO DO EVERYTHING RIGHT. FINALLY, DECIDED TO BRING UP THE ISSUE AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN THE ROAD LAST NIGHT WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT. IT DECREASED HER VISIBILITY ON A COUNTRY HIGHWAY CAUSING HER TO HAVE TO SLOW DOWN A LITTLE TO MAKE SURE SHE COULD SEE. IT MADE THE CONDITIONS UNSAFE AND IT ALSO BRINGS UP THE POSSIBILITY OF RECEIVING A TRAFFIC TICKET DUE TO THE LIGHT BEING OUT. LUCKILY, SHE MADE IT HOME WITH NO ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE NEXT DAY, SHE TURNED ON THE CAR AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN CONTINUALLY GOING OUT NO MATTER THE DRIVING SITUATION. BASED ON MY INTERNET SEARCHING, OTHERS SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I NOTICED HONDA HAS A RECALL FOR 2002-2004 HEADLIGHT ISSUES BUT I BELIEVE THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE OFFERED TO THE LATER MODELS AS WELL. I BELIEVE IT TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING AND NOT THE HEADLIGHTS THAT I KEEP HAVING TO CONSTANTLY BUY. PLEASE HELP WITH ADDRESSING THE ISSUE TO HONDA.

WE WERE OUT IN AN AREA WITH NO RESOURCES. WE WERE ABLE TO USE HIS HIGH BEAMS FORTUNATELY UNTIL WE COULD GET TO A SAFE LOCATION. SINCE THEN THE LIGHT BULBS FAIL FREQUENTLY APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MONTHS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. USUALLY ONE LIGHT AT A TIME, CONSTANTLY REPLACING BULBS. THIS A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. AND [OBVIOUSLY] A POOR DESIGN ISSUE. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN OUTSTANDING RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR MODEL YEARS 2002-2004 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V136000). FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE AT LEAST AS PREVALENT (IF NOT MORE SO) IN THE 2005 AND 2006 MODEL YEARS. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS START TO PULSE OR FLICKER (2 TO 3 TIMES A SECOND) CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. HAVE TO REPLACE LOW BEAM BULBS EVERY 3 TO 5 MONTHS. BOTH LOW BEAM LIGHTS INADVERTENTLY TURN OFF AND ON FOR A FEW SECONDS BUY THEMSELVES. HIGH BEAM LIGHTS SEAM TO WORK FINE. THE ABOVE ISSUES I LISTED ARE THE SAME OR SIMILAR TO THOSE IN THE HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 12-023 THAT COVERS A RECALL FOR THE 2002-04 CRV. I BELIEVE THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD BE AMENDED TO COVER THE 2005 HONDA CRV BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THIS ONGOING SAFETY FAILURE. HONDA AMERICA TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM/CONCERN IS THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A KNOWN RECALL FOR A EXTREMELY SIMILAR ISSUE ON 2002 THRU 2004 CR-V MODELS. THAT RECALLS SUMMARY STATES: "DUE TO TENSION FROM THE COMBINATION SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, WEAR ON THE SURFACE OF THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL CAN OCCUR, YIELDING COPPER OXIDE, WHICH INCREASES ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE. INCREASED ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE MAY CAUSE THE TERMINAL ENDS TO MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR." THE CONSEQUENCE LISTED ON THIS RECALL IS: "IF THE TERMINAL ENDS MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE, REDUCING DRIVER VISIBILITY AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT. I HAVE REPLACED THEM FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT TOO. I HAD TO REPLACE THE GLOVE BOX LIGHT, THE TEMPERATUE CONTROL, AIR CONDITIONING, RECIRCULATE, ODOMETER LIGHTS. NOW THE RPM LIGHT IS STARTING TO GO. THE HIGH BEAMS WORKED, WHICH I USED INTERMITTENTLY, UNTIL I COULD GET OFF THE TURNPIKE AT MIDWAY SERVICE AREA. CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE AROUND 8:40. VEHICLE WAS TOWED; MECHANIC 'FIXED' BY REPLACING THE BOTH FRONT LOW BEAM LIGHT BULBS. BOTH LIGHT BULBS HAD BEEN REPLACED THE PREVIOUS YEAR, SEPARATELY, ABOUT A MONTH APART. *KB

BOTH LOW BEAM FRONT HEADLIGHTS HAD BEEN WORKING THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AND DURING THE DAY OF THE 17TH (PA HAS A LOT OF WORK ZONES AND REQUIRES HEADLIGHTS TO BE ON). DRIVING EAST ON I-76 FROM PITTSBURGH TO BREEZEWOOD, BEGINNING A LITTLE AFTER 6:00 P.M. AND NOT YET DARK, FRONT HEADLIGHTS WERE ON AND WORKING. UNCLEAR WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, SINCE THERE WERE LIT PARTS OF THE ROAD, AND A LOT OF TRAFFIC, BUT BY 7:45 IT WAS CLEAR THE LIGHTS (BOTH LOW BEAM LIGHTS) WERE OUT. I BROUGHT MY HONDA CRV IN SEPT. 2005. IT WORKED FINE. BUT SINCE 2008 SUMMER, I OFTEN BE PULLED OFF BY POLICE BECAUSE THE LEFT FRONT LIGHT IS OFF. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS SIMPLE, JUST GO TO LOCAL GAS STATION TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB. AFTER I CHANGED THE LEFT FRONT LIGHT 3 TIMES, IN FEB 2011 I WAS PULLED OFF BY POLICE AGAIN, I REALIZED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. I WENT TO HONDA, THEY SAID IT WAS SOMETHING COMPUTER RELATED WRONG. JUST FOR FIX THIS I PAID MORE THAN $200. AND 1 WEEK AFTER, MY FRIEND TOLD ME MY RIGHT SIDE FRONT LIGHT WAS OFF. I HAD TO CHANGE IT AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT ON AND OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE OR THE OTHER OF THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL AT FIRST AND NOW BOTH OF THEM HAVE FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER SAID THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED WHEN WATER WAS ENTERING THE HEADLIGHTS OR THE LIGHTS WERE DAMAGED WHEN THEY WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS ALSO AN ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHTS HAVE CONTINUED TO SHUT ON AND OFF. THE LIGHTS BULBS WERE CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES AND CONTINUE TO FAIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,837 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

2005 CR-V: THE LOW BEAMS BURN OUT CONSTANTLY AT AN ACCELERATED RATE. THE TWO BULBS BURN OUT VIRTUALLY BACK-TO-BACK WITHIN 10 DAYS OF EACH OTHER. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO DRIVE WITH ONLY MY BRIGHTS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF THIS IN 150,000 MILES OF DRIVING...ONCE ON VACATION, NO LESS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO TWO OTHER OWNERS OF SAME MODEL WITH SAME COMPLAINT. FOR THE RECORD, I OWNED A 2002 CR-V WHERE I RARELY REPLACED ANY BULBS IN 200,000 MILES! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND CREATES A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE POSITION OF THE TURN SIGNAL AT THE TOP OF THE HONDA CR-V AND THE CLEAR LENS HAS RESULTED IN ME BEING HIT 3 TIMES IN THE REAR IN THE 1 1/2 YEARS I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. THE LAST INCIDENT, THE PERSON WHO HIT ME INSISTED THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY TURN SIGNAL ON EVEN WHEN HE STOOD BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED AT IT -- IT WAS ONLY WHEN PEDESTRIANS TOLD HIM THAT THE SIGNAL WAS ON DID HE FINALLY REALIZE THAT HE JUST HAD A HARD TIME SEEING IT. THE FIRST INCIDENT THE WOMAN SAID SHE DIDN'T SEE THE TURN SIGNAL. IN ALL 3 CASES, THE ACCIDENTS OCCURRED ON A SUNNY DAY. I AM CONSTANTLY BEING SWORN AT AND YELLED AT TO TURN ON MY TURN SIGNAL AND I GET OUT AND LOOK AND IT IS INDEED ON. THE POSITION OF THE SIGNAL AT THE VERY TOP OF THE VEHICLE IS HIGHER THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD -- NOT IN A POSITION THAT PEOPLE ROUTINELY LOOK FOR A TURN SIGNAL. IN ADDITION, THE CLEAR LENS MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THE TURN SIGNAL ON SUNNY DAYS-- I HAVE PURPOSELY DRIVEN BEHIND 2005 CR-VS (THE ONLY YEAR THAT HONDA HAD CLEAR LENS ON THE TURN SIGNALS) AND CAN UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM SEEING THE SIGNAL. I CALLED HONDA AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT MY SAFETY IN THIS CAR BECAUSE THE POSITION OF THE TURN SIGNAL SO HIGH ON THE CAR AND THE CLEAR LENS -- I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE DESIGN OF THE CR-V AND THEY GOT APPROVAL FOR THE DESIGN SO THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY. I ASKED THEM WHY THE CLEAR LENS WERE USED FOR ONLY 2005 THINKING THAT OTHER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CLEAR LENS SO THEY SWITCHED BACK TO THE YELLOW LENS IN 2006 BUT THEY DENIED THIS. THEY EVEN REFUSED TO SWITCH OUT THE CLEAR LENS FOR THE YELLOW LENS THAT THEY HAVE USED FOR EVERY OTHER YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD LOOK INTO THIS BY DRIVING BEHIND 2005 CR-VS ON SUNNY DAYS AND CHECKING OUT THE TURN SIGNALS. *JB
