The contact owns a 2006 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH at night, the driver's side low beam headlight had failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the high-beam headlights operated as needed; however, the driver's side low-beam headlight was inoperable. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local mechanic who replaced the driver's side headlight bulb. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure and had recently occurred to the passenger’s side low beam headlight. The contact researched online and became aware of similar failures with other vehicles. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Every few months one of my low beam headlamps goes out, and I replace it to stay in compliance with local traffic laws. Within the last week, both low beam headlights went out, and both sockets show burn damage that is similar to the issue reported in NHTSA recall: 04V086000. I am concerned that even if I replace both the lights and the sockets, there may be something else going on that could cause a fire. I'd like NHTSA to look into this please. Thank you
Low-beam headlight bulb repeatedly fails in 2006 Honda CR-V, more often on the driver’s side, requiring replacement two to three times per year. This has occurred since the car was purchased in 2011 over ten years ago. Recall is needed for this common problem.
WHEN DRIVING THE BRAKES WILL SEIZE UP ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING SOUND. IT DID IT TWICE YESTERDAY(12/19/2020)WHILE DRIVING IN THE SNOW AND THE CAR WILL OFTEN SLIDE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND ONCE WAS TOLD MY BRAKE LIKE IS PROBABLY FROZEN. THE CAR DEALERSHIP EVEN TOOK THE CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD OFF AS IT WAS DENTED AND THEY THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE THE ISSUE. IT IS A SCARY SITUATION WHEN YOUR BRAKES DON'T WORK GOOD AND YOU CAN'T STOP. I HAVE CHANGED MY BRAKES ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BUT IT STILL DOES IT. LIGHTS HAVE BEEN FLICKERING AND THE CAR HAS EVEN SHUTOFF IN THE MIDDLE OF PARKING.

IF THE BATTERY VOLTAGE DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO PUSH THE BATTERY VOLTAGE BACK UP. THIS CAUSES VOLTAGE SPIKES THAT BLOW OUT THE HEADLIGHT BULBS. NO ONE HAS A SOLUTION. ABOUT 130,000 MILES WHEN FIRST TOOK PLACE DURING MY TIME SO FAR. SEEMS TO GO OUT WHEN DRIVING. BULB HAS SLIGHT BURN MARK ON IT AFTER GOING OUT.

SPENT A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS ON REPLACEMENT BULBS; REPLACED THE HOUSING UNIT TO SEE IF THAT CORRECTED THE ISSUE AND IT WORKED FOR A FEW MONTHS; FINALLY IN APRIL 2018 WENT TO HALL HONDA (VIRGINIA BEACH, VA) TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THEY JUST SAID THE BULB WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. I DRIVE WITH LIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY AND YESTERDAY (7/20/2018) I NOTICED THAT MY LIGHTS WEREN'T REFLECTING ON THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME WHILE DRIVING. ONCE PARKED, I CHECKED AND LOW BEAMS NOT OPERATIONAL, BUT HIGH BEAMS WORK. THIS MORNING I CALLED HALL HONDA AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO IN TODAY (7/21/2018) AT 1:45 PM. I HAVE PRINTED OUT INFO FROM ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT IT ONLY WENT TO THE CAR YEAR 2005. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE HEADLIGHTS ARE NEEDED WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN (IT IS THE LAW HERE IN VA) OR WHEN IT IS DUSK/DARK. LISTING YESTERDAY AS THE DATE THIS HAPPENED, ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENED FIRST TO ME FEBRUARY 2016. OVER THE LAST 12-16 MONTHS, THE LOW-BEAM BULB FOR THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED APPROXIMATELY EVERY 1-2 MONTHS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS MULTIPLE YEARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. IN FACT, IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAD ISSUED RECALLS ON AN EARLIER MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE BUT HAVE RESISTED RECALLING ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS. I HAVE NOT YET DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER LOW-BEAM BULB SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN EFFECTED MORE THAN THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TRACK THE TIMING OF THE BULB FAILURES, AND I BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE RELATED TO LONG DISTANCE TRIPS OF OVER 100 MILES. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE AN AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL COMPANY LOOK AT IT AND TRY TO TRACE THE FAULT.

I WENT TO LEAVE WORK LAST NIGH, AND NOW BOTH LOW BEAMS ARE NOT WORKING. I HAVE CONTACTED THE RECALL DEPARTMENT, AND THEY TELL ME I HAVE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY CAR. I PAID $400 LESS THAN 8 MONTHS AGO TO FIX THIS, AND NOW I HAVE A WORSE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAYS I'M PAST MY WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR, SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I AM ALSO HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ALL LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUT STROBING AND PULSING. I HAVE READ MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, AND MY NEXT STEP IS TO CALL THE NHTSA TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. I AM URGING ANYONE HAVING ISSUES TO CALL THE HONDA RECALL LINE TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT DO A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL THEY HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS. THIS WAS MY FIRST HONDA AS I AM A TOYOTA GIRL, BUT I DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A SHOT. THIS IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS! AND VERY EXPENSIVE! LIVING IN ALASKA WE DEPEND ON OUR HEADLIGHTS MORE THAN NORMAL TO AVOID SEVER ACCIDENTS IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS, IE VEHICLES, ICE /SNOW/RAIN, HUMANS, MOOSE, CARIBOU ETC. HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPAIRED THIS CONDITION MANY YEARS AGO! THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY CONDITION! THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS 2007 TO 2016, I AVERAGE 8-10 BULBS A YEAR @ $6-$15 A BULB AND CHANGING THEM OUT IN SUB-0 TEMPS IS NO FUN! THE VEHICLE HAS NO SET PATTERN AS TO WHEN THIS HAPPENS PARKED OR DRIVING AND HIGH BEAM USE IS A MUST AT TIMES WITH OUT GETTING PULLED OVER. IN THIS LOCATION, THE CONDUCTORS ARE PROTECTED FROM STRESS ONLY BY HEAT SHRINK TUBING AND THE WIRE INSULATION. STRESS FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE RISING WIRE HARNESS AND TRANSFERRED STRAIN FROM THE BACK OF THE LAMP CONNECTORS IS HIGHEST AT THIS POINT. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH BULBS AND ADVISED THAT HONDA CR-VS WERE PRONE TO HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS. I HAD A BRAKE LIGHT GO OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE 2006 CR-V. I REPLACED THE LIGHT BULB, BUT WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, IF THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, THE BREAK LIGHT WILL NOT WORK. I TALKED WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET AND AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MODEL OF VEHICLE AS MINE (CR-V). MY HONDA MASTER MECHANIC BELIEVES THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE THAT HE HAS SEEN AND THAT HAVE BEEN SEEN BY DEALERSHIPS. TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE POWER SUPPLY WITH A VOLT METER. THERE WAS NO GROUND ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE LOW BEAM. DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM WORKS (FOR NOW), AND BOTH HIGH BEAMS. MY CR-V WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2005. PERHAPS IT HAS THE SAME DEFECTIVE TERMINALS, LIGHTING SWITCHES AND HARNESSES AS THOSE USED IN THE 2002-04 CR-V'S RECALLED BY HONDA MARCH 22, 2012? LAST WEEK, BOTH BULBS WENT OUT REQUIRING ME TO DRIVE WITH HIGH BEAMS AFTER DARK. WE KEEP REPLACING THE BULBS AS WE DO NOT WISH TO INCUR THE EXPENSE OF HAVING DEALER REPAIR WHEN IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING. I PURCHASED A 2006 HONDA CR-V 2 YEARS AGO. MY TRADE IN VEHICLE WAS A 1997 HONDA CR-V. SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR, I HAVE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BLOWING OUT, AND SOMETIMES THE DOME LIGHT INSIDE THE PASSENGER AREA OF THE CAR. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE BLOWING OUT ON AVERAGE, EVERY TWO MONTHS. DURING THE LAST YEAR OR 2 BEFORE TRADING THE 1997 CR-V, I HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BLOWING ON THAT VEHICLE ALSO. I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM HENDRICKS HONDA IN CHARLESTON, SC. I HAVE MOST OF MY SERVICE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, DONE AT THAT DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE REPEATEDLY ASKED THAT THEY INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I VISITED SUPERIOR HONDA RECENTLY IN ORANGEBURG SOUTH CAROLINA. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER THERE TOLD ME THAT IN RECENT MONTHS, HE WAS AWARE OF AT LEAST ONE CR-V OWNER AND SEVERAL OWNERS OF CIVICS WHO HAVE COME BACK AND FORTH TO THEIR DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH HEADLIGHTS BLOWING OUT. HENDRICKS HONDA ADVISED AGAINST CONTACTING THE CORPORATION AND SAID IT WOULD LIKELY REFER THE MATTER BACK TO THEM. I COMMUTE TO WORK 120 MILES ROUND TRIP DAILY. I HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS BY POLICE OFFICERS AND HIGHWAY PATROLMEN REGARDING ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS BEING OUT. I NOW CARRY COPIES OF THE SERVICE REQUESTS SHOWING THAT I REPORTED THE PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS DURING MY VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I SHOW THESE TO THE OFFICE AS PROOF THAT THE PROBLEM IS RECURRING AND I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE IT. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO TAKE THE ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND/OR TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNAL LEVER DOES NOT RETURN TO THE OFF POSITION DURING LANE CHANGES - NO LOUD ALARM ALERT TO DRIVER THAT DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL IS CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING.
