Door actuators ( Front passenger side and Back driver side) does not work. It bothers me by locking and unlocking.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the rear passenger's side door was making locking sounds unintendedly and had failed to unlock as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the door actuator was replaced, and the door was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that front passenger's side door and the tailgate had failed to unlock as needed. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under an unknown recall because the recall had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

When locking the door, there is a loud noise. I was told the lock actuator is bad and needs to be replaced (driver rear). I purchased this vehicle in October 2022 and the warranty is no longer valid. Prior to, the passenger front lock actuator had to be replaced. The vehicle is available to be inspected upon request

Vehicle door locks acting up off & on for several years. Sometimes not unlocking needing to insert key to unlock, other times passenger door not locking when using fob and doors locking & unlocking while driving. Now most recently cannot open drivers door from inside. It can be opened from the outside. This is very dangerous if you needed to get out of car quickly, not to mention the inconvenience of crawling over the center console to get out of passenger door. I am [XXX] and will never buy another Honda as I’ve read about the problems with this. Too bad because I really like my crv. Door locks began opening and closing on their own while I was driving. I have replaced battery twice since this began. The auto repair place and AAA were unable to locate a cause for the electrical problem. The car will not stay locked. I was robbed of my personal property while it was parked. It is not really safe to drive since I cannot secure myself in it.

Auto door locking system attempts to lock all four doors every time the vehicle drops below 10 miles per hour and then goes above 10 mph. All four doors can be manually locked and show they are locked when the motion auto lock system thinks one or more are not locked and attempts to lock after 10 miles per hour. This continues for every trip.

Driver door actuator started jamming late July. Door would only look after pressing the lock button from the passenger side. It eventually stopped locking that way and would only lock after hitting the lock button 8+ times on the driver side. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. My own safety is put at risk due to this issue because my doors are unable to lock. As a young woman, who doesn't have access to a garage and sometimes doesn't get home till late, having doors that are completely unable to lock due to a known system issue from Honda makes me uneasy. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. No the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, etc... No, the car provided no warning lamps, messages or any other symptoms of the issue. Issues first appeared in late July and have drastically gotten worse since then.

Approximately six months to one year ago, a screeching sound was audible anytime I would lock or unlock the doors in my 2008 Honda CR-V. I researched the issue and found out that this vehicle has a known problem with its actuators, and that Honda was successfully sued in 2015 resulting in an extension of the warranty on the part. I inherited this vehicle from my grandmother, and I found out from Honda that she did in fact have the part replaced in 2015, yet it has started to fail again, and Honda is refusing to fix it. The problem is that this failure causes the doors to automatically relock themselves after being unlocked. Obviously, this creates a serious safety concern should it become necessary to exit the vehicle in the event of an emergency. I don't believe it should be the owners responsibility to pay to have this part replaced AGAIN after Honda replaced their defective part with an equally defective one.

The door lock actuators are failing, causing the doors to lock or unlock almost every time I speed up from a stop. The passenger door defaults to lock almost at all times, when unlocked it will relock within 3 seconds.

My vehicle had the recall of the door locks completed but it has started the same problems again. Doors locking and unlocking at random while driving. Door unlocking once I have got out of the vehicle at a store and I have no idea for how long. Front and Back doors on the driver side is now making a grinding and loud popping noise when locking/unlocking the doors. The back gate tells me it is ajar but is not. The doors may or may not let you out of the car once you have arrived at your destination and placed the vehicle in park. The unlock button does not seem to help this problem. You must move the gear shifter back and forth and finally you can exit the vehicle. SAFETY ISSUE. Another recall needs to done for this issue.

My door lock actuator have been malfunctioning in right rear passenger,left passenger and driver sides. It makes a buzzing and gun shooting sound. Recently my door ajar alert has been coming on if I slightly touch driver door. My alarm is also starting go go off by itself due to the door lock actuators malfunctioning.

Honda body shop switched and stripped components/ parts of my vehicle when State Farm Adjustor wrote the repair assessment like it was in a high speed head on collision when it was actually a left side fender bender. That’s fraud… but nonetheless, State Farm agreed to fix the car. It’s a Honda CR/V that has had the engine replaced now but it’s having drivetrain issues. It rattles and violently vibrates upon takeoff (Automatic transmission) and when going uphill. It has electrical problems due to rodent chewing soy based electrical wires. I’ve replaced myself many components such as axle CV, electrical, fans, air conditioner, starters (3 in past two years) and basically had to rebuild the entire front end because the Honda body shop was using my car for a parts car. Curry Honda in Chamblee GA. Honda has refused to acknowledge any issues. 2008 Honda CR-V has drivetrain issues probably related to the software which Honda charges $150-200 every time just to clear a code. They don’t work with 3rd party parts providers and like Apple, are monopolizing their car company making it unsafe to take your car anywhere but to a Honda dealer for things as simple as an oil change. They want you to get your battery and fluids there, refusing to share specs with anyone else. This should be illegal as Apple recently has had lawsuits for trying to monopolize their screen replacement and repairs. Trying to get customers to only go to Apple for repair, rendering your phone useless unless you pay Apple again for repairs. Honda company is not customer focused, the dealers are out to make money off every single thing the car needs and their system is designed for no DIYers to fix much at all.

Door lock actuators failing, makes a loud buzzing noise when locking and sometimes locks and unlocks on its own when I’m driving. There are no recalls coming up, however I was informed of a class action lawsuit against Honda regarding the door lock issues with 2007-2011 Honda CRV’s.

This did not happen due to an accident. When I park my car and lock the car the passenger door in the front does not stay locked. I have manually locked it and the latch is moving over I believe this is called the Aactuator. I believe there has been a recall and now I see no recalls. This is unsafe for me and it does need to be fixed as it is a issue with how they made the vehicle.

While driving my front passenger door lock will start unlocking and relocking on my 2008 Honda CRV. I have been told the door locking actuator has failed. While at a stop light my doors became unlocked and I did not know it, and someone opened my passenger door. I was able to drive off but this is a huge safety issue. Also I can lock my doors after exiting vehicle and randomly they will unlock. My car is now left vulnerable to theft. I contacted my local dealership and was told my driver door actuator was replaced under a recall, but not the others. I was told if I want the other defective ones replaced I must pay hundreds of dollars for each. I am an older woman and am afraid to drive my car without working door locks. I do not feel safe and anyone/anything in my car is not safe.

When attempting to lock the doors with either the key fob or from inside the vehicle, the back door locks stay open. The front passenger door also makes a loud buzzing noise but stays locked. This is an issue when the auto lock function kicks in after every stop sign or red traffic light. I don’t want to leave the car in public spaces for fear of someone entering my vehicle unbeknownst to me. The original vehicle owner had no recollection of any correspondence, by mail or otherwise, related to the 2007-2011 Honda C-RV recalls for this issue.

THE DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I HAD A CHILD IN MY CARE WHEN AT ONE TIME THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL. THANKFULLY ONE WINDOW WAS DOWN AND ALLOWED ME TO CLIMB THROUGH AND GET TO THE BABY. I HAD TO CLIMB THROUGH TO THE BACK AND MANUALLY GET THE BACK HATCH TO OPEN. THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK. THEY WILL UNLOCK NOW BUT THE REAR DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT LOCK AT ALL. THE LOCKS LOCK AND UNLOCK AS I AM DRIVING AND HAVE A HORRIBLE BUZZING NOISE. THESE LOCKS ARE NOT SAFE!

Hello Sir/Madam, I own 2008 HONDA CR V. Yesterday when I tried to start my car, I head loud abnormal loud noise and the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT LIT ON the dash board. Since the noise was very abnormal and very loud, I decided not to drive the car. Next, I searched on internet to see if other Honda owners have same issue. I went to https://owners.honda.com/servicemaintenance/recalls?id= website and found the following. HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. SAFETY RISK: THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. Next I called American Honda corporation and explained my issue. I was told that my VIN number is not covered in spite of me having exactly the same issue as described in HONDA'S RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER R89 and that I will have to pay for the diagnosis. This is serious SAFETY ISSUE and American Honda Corporation is putting my safety as risk.

Rear door lock is malfunctioning. Sometimes it will lock when lock button is depressed. Other times it won't. Sometimes it will lock, but then unlock itself shortly after. This is a safety issue, since we are located in a high-crime area, Berkeley, CA, where car thefts, carjackings and car break-ins are common. There were no warning signs, lamps or other symptoms prior to this problem. Just started happening in the past few months. Started as an occasional problem, but has become persistent.

All 4 Door locks failed. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. The safety of anyone who is inside the vehicle is at risk. Yes the problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. It has been inspected by an ASE certified mechanic. There was not any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the first failure. An OBD2 scanner didn't show the vehicle as to having any issues with it as well. The day after I bought this car, the locks will lock and unlock while driving the car and when the car is turned off as well. I don't have any of the key fobs that go to the car, only the Valet key that doesn't have any buttons on it, and only locks and unlocks vehicle through the keyhole on driver's door. After class dismissal at 10pm, I went to enter the vehicle, but looked inside it just in case, and knowing the locks didn't work properly, and saw a man laying in the back of the car. I walked over to another class member close by and called campus security. The man must have heard us and got out of the car and ran. While running a gun fell to the ground but was reported stolen, he's still out there. I just purchased the vehicle 8 months ago and won't drive it anymore due to the faulty door locks. There isn't a recall on the locks and why should I have to pay Honda to replace them with another set of locks that could have the same issue. I was lucky that I was able to get a ride back and forth to school but lost my job due to lack of transportation. I'm out $5800, a car, a job, facing eviction, and now on psychological medicine due to faulty door locks. This is my 3rd and last Honda I will ever own. Thanks Honda.

Purchased vehicle in 2020. The rear door behind driver locking actuator went out. Honda repaired for $250 since recall stopped. Last month, both the front passenger and rear passenger locking actuators went out (another $250 each door). Doors lock and unlock on their own. Safety issue.

POWER LOCKS, LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN RANDOMLY. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE PARKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SO FAST AFTER PARKING, THAT I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD TIME TO OPEN THE BACK DOORS AND GET MY CHILDREN OUT. HAD I NOT GRABBED MY KEYS, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED INSIDE THE CAR ALONE! AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THEN ABOUT ANOTHER 6 MONTHS IT QUIT AGAIN. (WEATHER RELATED?). NOW THAT LOCK STAYS LOCKED ALL THE TIME. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO UNLOCK IT...NOT EVEN MANUALLY. ABOUT A YEAR LATER THE REAR PASSENGER LOCK WASN'T LOCKING CORRECTLY. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. NOW THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE LOCK DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. IT SOUNDS LIKE A MACHINE GUN GOING OFF EVERYTIME THE CAR HITS THE 10 MPH. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND ADVISED NO RECALLS. THERE IS A VIOLENT SHAKING FEELING COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA ALONG WITH A LOUD CONSTANT RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE SAME AREA. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN STATIONARY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A TENSIONER (?) ARM AND CHARGED ME $580. THE SOUND PERSISTS AND IS WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING. ALSO THE BACK SEAT PASSENGER SIDE LOCK MAKES A LOUD BUZZING NOISE WHEN LOCKED OR UNLOCKED.

A YEAR AND A HALF LATER, THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONTACT PAID TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR REPLACED. FURTHERMORE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

I PURCHASED A USED 2008 HONDA CRV ON 07/19/2017. ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK WAS UNLOCKING BY ITSELF. WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND FLUCTUATING BETWEEN 5 TO 20MPH THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK UNTIL YOU GET TO HIGHWAY SPEED. THE REAR DRIVER DOOR WOULD STAY UNLOCKED. I WENT TO A HONDA DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID THE ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR WAS BEGINNING TO FAIL DUE A LOAD NOISE WHEN ACTIVATED. THEY REPLACED BOTH ACTUATORS AT A COST OF $602.25. I HAVE SERVICE RECORDS OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE PAST OWNER AND THE PAST OWNER HAD THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT ACTUATOR REPLACED AND THE REAR ACTUATOR WAS LOOKED AT BUT NOT REPLACED. I READ THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AND IT SAYS, "FOR ALL SETTLEMENT CLASS VEHICLES, HONDA WILL PROVIDE A COUNTERMEASURE REPLACEMENT FREE OF CHARGE, IF THAT LOCK DOOR ACTUATOR HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN REPLACED WITH THE COUNTERMEASURE REPLACEMENT PART AS PROVIDED IN THE HONDA CASE 2:13-CV-00381-FSH-JBC DOCUMENT 56-1 FILED 09/24/14 PAGE 14 OF 72 PAGEID: 694 11 COUNTERMEASURE UPDATE. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A COUNTERMEASURE REPLACEMENT, A SETTLEMENT CLASS MEMBER MUST BRING THE SETTLEMENT CLASS VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. OWNERS AND LESSEES OF SETTLEMENT CLASS VEHICLES WILL BE ENTITLED TO A COUNTERMEASURE REPLACEMENT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY EXCLUDE THEMSELVES FROM THE SETTLEMENT." I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY ARE WILLING TO GIVE ME A $100.00 VOUCHER TO BE USED AT ANY HONDA DEALERSHIP. IN CONCLUSION I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WHEN THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THIS CAR SERVICED AT A HONDA DEALER THE POWER LOCK ACTUATORS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED. I AM LOOKING FOR COMPENSATION. THE DIGITAL DASHBOARD HAS GONE HAYWIRE I CANNOT READ HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE HOW MANY MILES I CAN GO HOW MANY MILES ARE ON THE CAR WHEN MY OIL NEEDS TO BE CHANGED OR THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE. ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK SYSTEM RECALL: OUR 2008 HONDA CRV LITERALLY LOCKED US OUT. WE WERE YARD SALING IN A NEARBY NEIGHBORHOOD. WE PARKED ON THE STREET, AND LOCKED THE VEHICLE. UPON RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK WITH THE FOB. I TRIED IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH FAINT CLICKING SOUNDS. THE KEY ALSO FAILED TO UNLOCK THE DRIVERS DOOR. OUR CELL PHONE AND KEYS TO THE HOUSE WERE IN THE LOCKED VEHICLE . IT WAS A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND WE WERE LOCKED OUT OF OUR VEHICLE AND STRANDED. WE WERE FORTUNATE IN THAT OUR NEIGHBOR AND A FRIEND WERE YARD SALING IN THE SAME AREA AND GAVE US A RIDE HOME AND WE WERE ABLE TO GAIN ENTRANCE TO OUR HOUSE VIA AN OPEN WINDOW. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO GET A HOLD OF THE MECHANIC(NOT THE DEALERSHIP!!) THE MECHANIC FIXED ONE FAILED DOOR ACTUATOR AND THE OTHER DOOR ACTUATORS WERE ALSO PROBABLY INVOLVED{??). HE SUGGESTED GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED A TOTAL OF THREE ACTUATORS GONE BAD!!! THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE GLAD TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM FOR $350 PER ACTUATOR --- $270 FOR PARTS AND $780 FOR LABOR.. IT TURNS OUT THE PARTS ARE PREDOMINANTLY PLASTIC AND APPEAR MADE NOT TO LAST. THE PICTURE COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT DIFFERENT. THE DAY BEFORE WE WERE USING THE SAME VEHICLE 45 TO 60 MINUTES FROM HOME AND NO NEARBY CONTACTS. WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STILL STRANDED AND EVEN MORE STRESSED!!! WE BOUGHT OUR HONDA CRV BECAUSE HONDA SUPPOSEDLY HAD A BETTER THAN AVERAGE SERVICE RECORD , QUALITY OF PARTS, AND SAFETY RECORD.

IT MAY BE A HIGH VOLTAGE PROBLEM, AS THE HEADLAMP SOCKET HAS PARTIALLY MELTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AS A RESULT OF A BLOWOUT. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH HEAVY DUTY/HIGH TEMP SOCKETS, AND YET LAMPS CONTINUE TO BLOW AND HAVE MELTED THOSE. THE BLOWOUTS HAVE OCCURRED BOTH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY (STARTING) AND WHILE IN MOTION. IF BOTH HEADLAMPS GO OUT BEFORE YOU CAN REPLACE THE BLOWN OUT ONE, THEN IT BECOMES A POTENTIAL CAUSE OF A NIGHT-TIME COLLISION. IF IT WAS ONLY AN ISSUE WITH HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT, THAT WOULD BE AN EXPENSE WORTH MANAGING FOR AN OTHERWISE SOLID CAR. BUT THE MELTING OF THE SOCKET AND POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL SHORTS AND ARCING IS TROUBLING AS IT MAY LEAD TO FIRE. MANY CR-V OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND REPORTED THIS VERY ISSUE. DOOR ACTUATOR RECALL. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND IT WAS REPLACED IN MARCH 2015, I HAD TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2015, NOW THE BACK DOORS AND READ DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND THE ACTUATOR IS THE PROBLEM. HONDA HAS STATED THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE SINCE THE RECALL HAS ENDED. THE DEALERSHIP WILL REPAIR BUT I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BILL WHICH IS SIGNIFICANT. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN DUPED BY HONDA. IF THEY HAVE A RECALL ON A PART THEN ALL DEFECTIVE PARTS FROM THAT SUPPLIER SHOULD BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE SAME WITH THE AIR BAGS. THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE DOOR MAKES A LOUD SOUND AS IT CYCLES BETWEEN LOCK AND UNLOCK, EVERY TIME THE DOORS ARE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED. SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT LOCK. SOMETIMES IT WILL LOCK. SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO UNLOCK. IT MAKES AWFUL NOISES EVERY TIME I LOCK THE DOORS. THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS DOING THE SAME. HONDA CORRECTED THE PROBLEM IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR RECENTLY FOR FREE WHILE THE DRIVER'S SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, HONDA REFUSES TO COVER THE COST OF THE MALFUNCTIONING PASSENGER SIDE LOCK ACTUATOR WHICH ALSO PRESENTS A HAZARD IF ALL LOCKS DO NOT UNLOCK EASILY DURING AN EMERGENCY. HONDA ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2015 EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO COVER THESE. BUT, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER LOCKS AT THE TIME SO NO REPAIRS WAS NEEDED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THE HONDA CR-V. IF THEY COVER REPLACEMENT FOR ONE, THEY SHOULD COVER REPLACEMENT FOR THE OTHER FOR SAFETY.

IN 2008 HONDA CR-V, I HAVE NOTICED SINCE JULY 2016, THAT PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS (FRONT AND REAR) AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ALSO, WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED, THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE USING KEY AND NO MANUAL LOCK OPTION IS AVAILABLE. DISCUSSED THIS PROBLE M WITH HONDA DEALER A FEW TIMES AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR PROBLEM. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. IN BEGINNING OF 2015, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HONDA DEALER AND AT THAT TIME ONLY DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK WAS COVERED (NOT OTHER THREE DOOR LOCKS). DEALER IS STATING THAT I MUST PAY FOR DIAGONISIS AND REPAIRS. ITEM 3 OF LETTER I RECEIVED FROM HONDA IN 2015 DID NOT SPECIFICALLY STATES: "IF A DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ON YOUR CR-V MALFUNCTIONS, YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR REPAIRS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRENTY WITHOUT CHARGE AT AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER..." THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN SINCE MY ABILITY TO LOCK THE CAR AT ALL TIMES (WHEN REQUIRED) IS COMPROMISED DUE TO MALFUNCTIONING PARTS INSTALLED IN 2008 HONDA CR-V.

THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS NOW EXPIRED AND HONDA WILL NO LONGER REPLACE DEFECTIVE LOCKS ON ANY DOORS OTHER THAN THE DRIVER'S DOOR. DOORS LOCK IMMEDIATELY AFTER UNLOCKING WHETHER USING KEY FOB, DOOR LOCK ON DOOR, OR WHEN THE DOORS SELF UNLOCK WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AND PUT IN PARK. THE DOOR UNLOCKS AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BUT IMMEDIATELY RELOCKS ALL DOORS. PASSENGER UNLOCKS THEIR DOOR AND IF THEY DON'T CATCH THE LATCH TO OPEN THE DOOR QUICKLY, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RELOCK. I CAN'T TAKE MY CAR TO THE CARWASH IN FEAR THAT SOMEONE WILL LOCK MY KEYS INSIDE. KEYS IN IGNITION, ENGINE ON AND I GET OUT TO CLOSE MY GATE, THE DOORS RELOCK. IF I DIDN'T HEAR IT LOCK AND SHUT MY DOOR, MY CAR WOULD BE RUNNING IN PARK WITH DOORS LOCKED. THINK IF I HAD MY GRAND CHILDREN INSIDE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND I CAN'T GET INSIDE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THIS STARTED HAPPENING REGULARLY AROUND JANUARY 2016 PAST THE RECALL. TO FIX THIS MYSELF WILL COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.

FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND THE FOUR DIFFERENT FAILURE MODES THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE AC COMPRESSOR EXPLODED OR IMPLODED AND COULD HAVE LEFT SHARDS OF METAL ON THE HIGHWAY I WAS DRIVING ON. TWO OTHER FAILURE MODES OF THIS PROBLEM INCLUDE THE CLUTCH AXLE SHAFT SHEARING AND THE CLUTCH ITSELF MELTING. I WAS TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE HAD SUDDENLY TURNED ITSELF OFF. AT THAT MOMENT I NOTICED THAT THE METAL PART OF THE IGNITION KEY HAD SEPARATED FROM THE PLASTIC KEY FOB, AND THE PLASTIC PART, WITH THE REST OF MY KEYS ATTACHED, HAD DROPPED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. AFTER INVESTIGATION, I SAW THAT THE SMALL SCREW THAT HOLDS THE PLASTIC AND METAL PARTS TOGETHER HAD PULLED THROUGH THE THIN SLIP OF PLASTIC TO WHICH IT WAS ATTACHED. THE ENGINE APPARENTLY TURNS OFF IF THE KEY FOB IS NOT IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE IGNITION. THIS MECHANISM PRESUMABLY HAS ANTI-THEFT FUNCTIONS, WHILE ALSO PREVENTING ANYONE BUT HONDA FROM SELLING REPLICATE KEYS. IN THIS CASE IT HAD THE WHOLLY UNDESIRED EFFECT OF SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE OF A CAR IN MOTION. IN ORDER TO RE-START THE CAR, THE PARTS HAD TO BE PRECARIOUSLY JAMMED BACK TOGETHER, AND I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE FEAR THAT THEY WOULD AGAIN RE-SEPARATE AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO TURN OFF. UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR, BUT UNDER THIS APPARENTLY UNANTICIPATED FAILURE MODE, IF THE KEY FOB EXPERIENCES A SUDDEN STRUCTURAL FAILURE, THE ENGINE DOES TURN ITSELF OFF. THIS SITUATION REPRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE OF THE RISK THAT THE CAR WILL ABRUPTLY LOSE BOTH ENGINE POWER AND POWER STEERING. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER I HAD TO COME TO A STOP. WHEN THE CAR STARTED MOVING, THE REAR DOOR LOCKS CYCLED AGAIN. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EVERY TIME THE CAR WOULD START TO MOVE AGAIN FROM A STOP. I REACHED MY DESTINATION AND EXITED THE CAR, LOCKING THE DOORS WITH THE HONDA REMOTE. A SECOND AFTER THE DOORS LOCKED, I HEARD A FAINT CLICK FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AS IF SOMEONE HAD OPERATED THE LOCK BUTTON FROM THE INSIDE. I CHECKED THE DOOR HANDLE AND THE REAR DOOR OPENED. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT THE CHILD LOCKS ARE ACTIVATING THEMSELVES AS YOU CANNOT OPEN EITHER PASSENGER DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. LOCKS STARTED LOCKING WITHIN A SECOND OF BEING UNLOCKED. SO I COULD UNLOCK THE DOORS WITH THE KEY BUTTON AND PULL QUICKLY TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET IN. THE LOCKS WOULD ENGAGE AS SOON AS I GOT IN. MY 2008 HONDA CRV IN 2010 BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR DOOR LOCK AND THEN THE HATCH LOCK. WHEN I PUT THE REAR DOOR LOCK INTO CHILD SAFETY MODE AND TOOK IT OFF CHILD SAFETY MODE, THE DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT UNLOCK. IT KEPT LOCKING AND I WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY PRESS DOWN ON THE LOCK BUTTON IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA CAR DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ACTUATOR AND IT HAPPENS OFTEN TO HONDA VEHICLES AND IT WOULD COST ME $380 TO REPAIR IT EVEN THOUGHT THE PART I WAS TOLD WAS ACTUALLY ONLY $80 DOLLARS. ATTEMPTS WERE MADE WITH THE CAR RUNNING, IGNITION TURNED TO ACCESSORY, AND ALSO WITH THE CAR TURNED OFF. NOTHING CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THIS PERSISTED INTO THE NEXT DAY WHEN IT STARTED WORKING WITHOUT ANY PARTICULAR INTERVENTION BEYOND MY PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS. THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED A FEW DAYS LATER, ONLY NOW IT IS THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. I LOCK THE CAR WITH THE KEY FOB, BUT THE PASSENGER DOOR REMAINS UNLOCKED. THE SAME IS TRUE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LOCK USING THE SWITCH ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR. LIKE OTHERS WHO HAVE POSTED ON THIS SITE, THIS CAR ALSO ATTEMPTS TO LOCK/UNLOCK AT UNEXPECTED TIMES WELL ABOVE THE USUAL SPEED WHERE THE AUTOMATIC LOCK NORMALLY OPERATES. IT WAS ALWAYS THE SAME TWO, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND THE REAR DOOR. I WOULD PUSH THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON MY KEY, AND THE OTHER 3 DOORS WOULD UNLOCK, BUT THOSE 2 WOULD NOT. I TRIED USING THE UNLOCK/LOCK BUTTONS ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR, AND AFTER HITTING THE LOCK BUTTON FIRST AND THEN UNLOCK SEVERAL TIMES, IT WOULD WORK AND THOSE 2 DOORS WOULD EVENTUALLY UNLOCK. AND THEN SOMETIMES ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY WOULD START UNLOCKING AGAIN USING THE KEY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ANNOYANCE FOR THE PAST 2-3 YEARS. IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR (2013), THE 2008 HONDA CRV-EX THAT I PURCHASE CERTIFIED, PRE-OWNED IN OCTOBER 2012, BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR LOCKS. AS I WAS DRIVING, THE LOCKS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK AND LOCK THEMSELVES EVERY TIME I CAME TO A STOP AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. THE PROBLEM STOPPED AFTER A FEW DAYS, THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER, STARTED OCCURRING AGAIN. BEFORE I CALLED TO HAVE IT CHECKED, IT STOPPED, BUT THEN I WOULD HEAR A SQUEALING SOUND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE DOORS WERE LOCKED UPON ACCELERATION. ALL OF THESE ISSUES STOPPED, BUT THEN ABOUT A WEEK AGO (JULY 2013), BOTH DOORS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE STARTED RELOCKING THEMSELVES WITHIN 3 SECONDS OF BEING UNLOCKED BY EITHER THE KEY FOB OR FROM THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THEY CANNOT BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED MANUALLY, EVEN WITH AUTO LOCK OFF. THEY ALSO CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE BY THE PASSENGER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY CHILD, WHO WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN HIS DOOR AND EXIT IMMEDIATELY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. IN ADDITION TO THIS PROBLEM, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) LIGHT IS ON PERMANENTLY ON MY DASHBOARD. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER TECHNICIAN I SPOKE WITH, THIS MEANS THE TPMS HAS STOPPED COMMUNICATING WITH THE SENSORS ON AT LEAST ONE OF MY TIRES. THIS IS A HAZARD IN THAT I COULD HAVE DANGEROUSLY LOW TIRE PRESSURE AND WOULD NOT KNOW IT, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A BLOW OUT AT HIGH FREEWAY SPEEDS. GUESS WHAT? TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCKS RE OCCURRED. THE CAR KEPT SAYING A DOOR WAS OPENED WHEN IT WASN'T AND THEN BECAUSE OF THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T LOCK WHEN I WAS IN IT AND THEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULDN'T GO OFF. THEN, IT JUST STOPPED HAPPENING. THEN ON 1/14, EVERY TIME I USED THE BRAKE WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD GO ON. AND THEN WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE THE DOORS WOULD LOCK AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF. THIS ALL BEGAN THE WEEK AFTER I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET NEW TIRES (WHERE THEY RIPPED ME OFF BY CHARGING ME $1,300 TO REPLACE 4 TIRES!). VERY FRUSTRATING. *TR

FRONT PASSANGER DOOR LOCK WILL BRIEFLY UNLOCK THEN ON ITS OWN LOCK ITSELF. YOU HAVE TO FORCE THE DOOR LOCK OPEN JUST TO GET OUT AND ONCE THE LOCK OPENS IT SLOWLY LOCKS ITSELF. THE KEY FOB AND LOCK SWITCH WILL BRIEFLY UNLOCK THE LATCH. (WE DO HAVE FACTORY INSTALLED ALARM). MY WIFE ALSO NOTICED DOME LIGHT NO LONGER COMING ON (MIGHT JUST BE DEAD BULB). THIS COULD BE A HUGE ISSUE IN AN ACCIDENT IF PASSENGER OR EMERGENCY PERSONAL ARE UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR DUE TO LOCK ALWAYS LOCKING ITSELF. A LOT OF FORCE IS NEEDED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. IT SEEMS LIKE THE DOOR ACTUATOR IS GETTING A LOCK SIGNAL AND STAYING IN THE LOCKED POSITION. AGAIN YOU CAN MOMENTARILY MANUALLY FORCE THE DOOR LOCK OPEN AND WITH THE SWITCH/KEYFOB. RECENT REPAIRS: WE DID RECENTLY REPLACE THE CAR BATTERY BECAUSE THE CAR LOST ELECTRICAL POWER (CAR WOULD NOT START). WE ALSO JUST REPLACED THE AC/HEATER BLOWER MOTOR BECAUSE WHEN THE HVAC WAS POWERED ON WE HEARD VERY LOUD WHIRLING/CLICKING NOISE. WE ALSO JUST CHANGED ALL FOUR STRUTS BECAUSE THEY WERE LEAKING BUT NO ELECTRICAL WAS TOUCHED DURING THIS REPAIR. *TR

CONDITIONS AT THE TIME WERE HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES (CA. 90-100 DEGREES F). THE HONDA CRV LOCKS AND WILL NOT RELEASE IT TAKES SOME TIME PUSHING ON THE LOCKS AND SO FORTH TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS FRIGHTENING TO HAVE THE DOORS LOCK AND NOT RELEASE. PURCHASED A NEW HONDA CRV ON FRIDAY JULY 25TH. TWO DAYS LATER, WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE BATTERY LIGHT, EXCLAMATION MARK, VEHICLE STABILITY LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, AND ROLLED BACK WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN THE DRIVE MODE. I TOOK THE CRV TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CLEANED THE ALTERNATOR TERMINALS, THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NOW CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. NOW THEY THINK THAT THE ENGINE AIR 'INTAKE' MAY BE THE PROBLEM. *TR
