The contact owns a 2011 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated on the vehicle. The contact stated that over time she became aware that the oil level was gradually getting lower than normal. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be disassembled for additional diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Customer Service Program: 12-089; as the possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Oil consumption is exaggerated with to obvious observed signs, I.e, no visible leaks, no blue smoke from tailpipe, no smell behind vehicle. Oil needs to be added every ~70 miles as per the dipstick. Engine light will illuminate when oil too low. Car running fine otherwise. Is this happening to others? Respectfully, Careful Driver

I bought my car in 2021, and starting immediately I had issues with my tires going flat, my suspension jolting any time a bump was hit, my gear shift does not fully shift into park which makes it nearly impossible to get my key out of the ignition, I was given a spare key to someone else’s car and was never issued a new one, and dealership (CarMax) has not made an attempt to help with repair on current safety recall.

The oil consumption of this vehicle is extremely high and has progressively gotten worse to the point it has become undrivable. I have to put oil in every other day. It's completely not okay to make and sell faulty vehicles

I was driving down a road on the way to take my son to his swim team training. I got about f 5 min away from our home and I felt a large clunk, almost as if I ran something over that was large. I had difficulty steering my vehicle, had a loud weird noise coming from the vehicle, and pulled over. I inspected the vehicle outside, I hit nothing. wheels looked fine. I popped open the hood and started to inspect, it was getting dark so it was difficult to see. I found that the engine mount bolts had sheared clean off of the engine, causing the engine to drop, cracking the engine bracket and the engine almost falling out of the vehicle onto the ground. It it was not for the cross member below it may have completely fallen out.. the vehicle had to be towed as it was not drivable at this point. I had the vehicle towed to Schlossmanns Honda in Greenfield WI for repair. Currently my vehicle is at a Honda dealer being inspected for corrosion as I live in the rust belt and there is a recall for corrosion on this vehicle.

I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON MY TOWN'S STREETS AROUND 35 MPH AS USUAL WHEN MY VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTOZONE IN TOWN AND THEY STATED IT WAS AN ENGINE MISFIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE NEAREST CAR REPAIR SHOP AS A HONDA DEALERSHIP WAS OVER 25 MILES AWAY AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS AN ENGINE MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 1. THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THE MISFIRE. WHY WAS CRV'S NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE CLASS LAWSUIT WITH HONDA?

INTERSTATE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED 70MPH UP AN INCLINE OR HILLY AREA WOULD CAUSE THE 2011 CRV ENGINE TO HESITATE ACCELERATING, CAUSING A HIGH RPM REV BUT NO SPEED INCREASE, I.E. THE ENGINE WOULD STRUGGLE TO KEEP THE SAME SPEED REQUIRING THE DRIVER TO DRIVE AT LOWER SPEEDS LIKE 60MPH TO AVOID THE EXCESSIVE RPM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING ROUGH IN THE HIGHWAY AND ROUGH WHEN IDLING. WE HAVE CHOSEN TO KEEP IT BECAUSE WE HAVE TRUST IN HONDA'S RELIABILITY. IT SEAMS LIKE IT IS GRADUALLY BURNING MORE OIL I JUST HAD TO ADD 2 QUARTS AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME ADDING BETWEEN ITS LAST OILS CHANGE. I HAVE OIL CHANGED AT DEALERSHIP EVERY 4-5 THOUSAND MILES. I HAVE SEEN THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR CARS BUT MINE HAS NOT FALLEN UNDER ANY RECALLS I AM WONDERING WHY? THIS CAR IS IN MICHIGAN I WARM THE ENGINE UP BEFORE DRIVING. ON MARCH 11, 2018 I BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND PARKED NEXT TO MY PORCH. BEFORE GOING INTO THE HOUSE, MY GRANDSON TOLD ME TO LOOK AT THE CAR WHICH WAS SMOKING UNDER THE HOOD. WITHIN SECONDS THE SMOKE TURNED DARK GRAY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IN 3 MINUTES. I COULD SEE FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE ON THE BOTTOM AT THE DRIVEWAY. THE FRONT DOOR WINDOWS WERE BUSTED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE ON THE DASHBOARD, TOO.

I HAVE A HONDA CR-V 2011. IN OCTOBER OF 2016 I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE OIL LIGHT HAD COME ON. THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS 4 1/2 QUARTS LOW. THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK AFTER A BIT AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE OIL AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS USING OIL WITH NO LEAKS. THEY HAVE TWO OPTIONS TO REBUILD EXISTING MOTOR WITH NEW PISTONS AND RINGS OR A REBUILT MOTOR. I HAVE TALKED WITH MIKE WHO IS A REP FROM HONDA. HE HAS TOLD ME THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR MY VIN NUMBER. I CAME ACROSS A RECALL FROM AN ARTICLE IN CONSUMER REPORTS BACK IN 2015. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT MY CAR IS DOING AND SAYS HONDA IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR EIGHT YEARS OR 125,000 MILES FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2011. IT HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. THIS ARTICLE ALSO SITES HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 12-089 FOR CR-VS (12-087 FOR ACCORD).

LIBERTY HONDA IS REFUSING TO PERFORM WORK UNDER A WARRANTY EXTENSION NOTICE TITLED "STICKING PISTON RINGS RESULTING IN HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION." I RECEIVED THE NOTICE IN AUGUST OF 2015. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUNAROUND BY LIBERTY HONDA EMPLOYEES OVER AND OVER ABOUT WHY THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. DESPITE PROVEN OIL LOSS, AND A LIT UP OIL LIGHT LIBERTY HONDA SERVICE CREW CONTINUES TO FABRICATE REASONS WHY THEY CANNOT PERFORM THE WORK IN THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. TODAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER LUIS/LOUIS WAS VERY UNSYMPATHETIC TO MY 2-YEAR LONG ORDEA. HE SAID, " YOU HAVEN'T DEALT WITH ME YET" WHICH NOT ONLY SOUNDED LIKE A THREAT, BUT ALSO SOUNDED LIKE CODE FOR: "I'M JUST GOING TO PUT YOU THROUGH MORE NEVER-ENDING TESTS AND NOT FIX THE PROBLEM." THAT PROVED TRUE. DESPITE A SVC REP NAMED SHANICE ARCE PROMISING ME (ON 10/26/17) THAT THEY WOULD IMPLEMENT THE WARRANTYEXT/PISON RING FIX, THIS PROVED TO BE ANOTHER LIE. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM TODAY, AFTER DRIVING ANOTHER 1,000 - PER LIBERTY'S NEVERENDING TEST DEMANDS, LIBERTY HONDA'S SERVICE DEPT. ONCE AGAIN TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO UNDERGO MORE TESTS. IT NEVER ENDS! WHEN PROBLEMS SURFACE PERTAINING TO OIL CONSUMPTION, LIBERTY'S SERVICE PEOPLE ALWAYS COME UP WITH AN EXCUSE WHY THEY WON'T DO THE WORK REQUIRED UNDER THE STICKING RING WARRANTY EXTENSION. ADDITIONALLY, THEY SEEM TO BE BRINGING ME IN JUST TO CHARGE ME FOR SOMETHING ELSE. I'VE HAD TO NEEDLESSLY TAKE OFF TIME FROM WORK FOR LIBERTY'S RUNAROUND. OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM - TOOK MY CAR IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. 96662 MILES. OIL LIFE AT 15% PER MANUAL OIL MAINTENANCE. EXCLUSIVE HONDA (NOT A DEALER) FOUND NO OIL IN MY CAR. SENT ME TO A HONDA DEALER IMMEDIATELY TO TAKE CARE OF. SINCE THEY ARE NOT A HONDA DEALER THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO MY CAR OR MAY NEGATE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE HONDA DEALER FOUND A SEAL OIL LEAK STATED IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO THE HIGH MILES. I WENT BACK AFTER 1000 MILES PER THE REQUIREMENTS FOR OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE OIL LEVEL & USE WAS CORRECT FOR 1000 MILES. OIL LIFE WAS AT 80%. I PLANNED TO CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 5000 TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER I AM ON MY 3RD TIME TO HAVE THE HONDA DEALER TO CHECK FOR OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. I WILL BE SENDING ALL THE COMPLAINTS SEPARATELY. HI. I HAVE A 2011 HONDA CRV. VIN # [XXX]. IT HAS A LITTLE OVER 98,500 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT FROM SCHLOSSMANN HONDA CITY 3450 S 108TH ST, MILWAUKEE, WI 53227. IT WAS A LEASED VEHICLE BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE NOTICED SINCE OWNING IT THAT IT CONSUMES OIL. I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCHING ON THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND OUT THAT HONDA MOTORS HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH THIS SUCH PROBLEM. MY QUESTION TO HONDA; 1.HOW LONG IS THIS WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE FOR MOTOR AND DRIVETRAIN? 2.HOW DO I PROVE THAT IT CONSUMES OIL, SINCE I HAVE NO PRIOR RECORDS OF SERVICE FROM THE PAST? ON A RELATIVELY SHORT TRIP IN EARLY APRIL, 2016 WE NOTICED SOMETHING ODD ABOUT THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE REGULAR PLACE WHEN WE RETURNED TO FIND OUT IT WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. WE HAD OIL CHANGED AGAIN IN AUGUST, 2016 -- AGAIN COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. WE TOOK THE CAR NUMEROUS TIMES TO HONDA FOR PROTOCOL TESTING OF OIL USAGE AT MEASURED MILE MARKERS. WAS TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THE CAR WAS NOT WITHIN PROTOCOL LIMITS FOR FIXING, EVEN THOUGH IT COMPLETELY WENT THROUGH THE OIL TWICE IN A SPAN OF EIGHT MONTHS. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AGAIN ON OCTOBER 17, 2016 AND WE HAVE PUT IN 2.3 QUARTS OF OIL SINCE THEN. IN THE PROTOCOL TESTING STARTING AUGUST 10 TO OCTOBER 17, THE CAR USED 2.07 QUARTS OF OIL. WE ARE GETTING VERY CLOSE TO THE 125,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY LEVEL AND IT IS SO FRUSTRATING TO KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT HONDA WILL NOT STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCT. WE ALSO HAVE A 2004 HONDA CR-V THAT WE HAVE NEVER HAD TO PUT A DROP OF OIL IN -- JUST REGULAR SERVICE TO IT. VEHICLE BOUGHT NEW IN 2011 AND ONLY ONE OWNER. IN EARLY 2015, MY VEHICLE WENT FROM HAVING MY OIL CHANGED BETWEEN 5000 AND 7000 MILES TO BARELY MAKING IT TO 3000. VEHICLE MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDS SYNTHETIC OIL AND IS THE ONLY TYPE OF OIL THAT HAS EVER BEEN USED FOR THIS VEHICLE. NO OIL WAS LEAKING FORM VEHICLE AND NO EVIDENCE OF OIL LEAKAGE UNDER HOOD WHEN CHECKED. OIL CHANGED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH SAME RESULT. INFORMATION WAS RECEIVED FROM HONDA REGARDING EXTENSION ON WARRANTY DUE TO POSSIBLE HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION & WAS STATED THAT OIL CONSUMPTION TEST COULD BE COMPLETED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP. HONDA DEALERSHIP BEGAN TEST IN OCTOBER 2015 AND WAS COMPLETED IN FEBRUARY 2016. .8 QUARTS USED AFTER FIRST 1000 MILES, 1QUART USED AFTER 2000MILES AND .8QUARTS AFTER 3000MILES. AFTER EACH CHECK, 1 QUART OIL WAS ADDED BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. AFTER THIRD CHECK, I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS DID NOT HONDA SPECIFICATIONS TO WARRANT REBUILD TO CORRECT PROBLEM IN ENGINE CAUSING HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION. WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL BUT VEHICLE WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE. IN FALL 2016, I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AGAIN REGARDING ISSUE & ALSO HAD TWO LIGHTS (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT & TRACTION LIGHT) COME ON AT THE SAME TIME. HONDA AGREED TO COMPLETE ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST & CHECK LIGHTS. WAS TOLD THAT TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN STRETCHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HONDA SERVICE MANAGER WOULD NOT CONFIRM THAT TIMING CHAIN WAS STRETCHED DUE TO HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION EVEN THOUGH RESEARCH & OTHER MECHANICS SUGGEST OTHERWISE. HONDA CORPORATION WAS CONTACTED MULTIPLE TIMES & WILL NOT COMPLY WITH RETURNING CALLS, ANSWERING QUESTIONS, ETC. DIFFERENT ANSWERS ARE GIVEN FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE WITHIN HONDA (HONDA CORPORATION & DEALERSHIP). THE VTC ACTUATOR IS AN ISSUE ON THIS CAR. THE "RECALL" LISTED FOR THIS VIN IS 36,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. THIS IS CRIMINAL AS NO ONE WILL EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE WITHIN THAT TIME FRAME. IT LETS THE MANUFACTURER OFF THE HOOK. HONDA KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE AS IT AFFECTS MANY MAKES AND MODELS OF HONDA CARS (THERE IS EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE FOR THE 2014 HONDA CRV). THE CAR GRINDS AT THE START, SOMETIMES NOT STARTING AT ALL, DUE TO HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY VTC ACTUATOR. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS PART IS $750 AND DOES NOT EVEN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED THAT THE PROBLEM CAN OFTEN REOCCUR AFTER ANOTHER 10,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 HONDA CR-V LAST NIGHT AND WAS SLOWING TO TAKE AN EXIT OFF OF A FREEWAY. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE FAILING AS I WAS HAVING TO STEP ON THEM REALLY HARD TO SLOW DOWN. AS I APPROACHED THE STOPLIGHT AT THE END OF THE EXIT RAMP, I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS NOT GOING TO STOP. I PUT THE CR-V IN NEUTRAL AND HEARD THE ENGINE REV REALLY HARD AND SAW THE TACHOMETER READING JUMP OVER TO 5000 RPM. WITHIN SECONDS, THE ENGINE SLOWED BACK DOWN TO IDLE SPEED AND I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE LAST MILE TO MY HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT.

WAS AT VERY LOW SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY CAR IN A MALL PARKING SPOT. AS I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN FURTHER AND PARK THE CAR AND TURNING INTO THE SPOT, THE CAR ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH I APPLIED MAXIMUM PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I SIDE SWIPED ONE CAR ON MY LEFT AND RAMMED THE CAR IN FRONT OF MY SPACE---MY CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT TO THE OTHER VEHICLE AND I FINALLY COULD TURN THE CAR OFF AS IT WAS STILL RUNNING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. BOTH INSTANCES WERE VERY SIMILAR AS I WAS PARKING THE CAR IN A SPACE AT LOW SPEED. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS VERY MINOR (OCCURRED IN MAR 2013) BUT THIS INSTANCE IS VERY MAJOR--SERIOUS DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND THE OTHER CARS--I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT GET HURT IN EITHER CASE--SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR AND MAYBE 2011 CR-VS.

WE PURCHASED A HONDA CERTIFIED VEHICLE IN JAN 2015. AFTER 4,000 MILES THE OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON PERIODICALLY. WE CHECKED THE OIL AND THE DIPSTICK WAS DRY. I ADDED TWO QUARTS OF OIL, IT STILL SHOWED ONLY HALF ON THE DIP STICK AND WE TOOK IT TO HONDA. THEY CHARGED US FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND SAID THEY NEEDED TO DO A CONSUMPTION TEST. AFTER TWO 1,000 MILES CONSUMPTION CHECKS, IT WAS BURNING A QUART OF OIL IN EACH CHECK. THE LAST CHECK, WE TOOK A PICTURE OF THE DIPSTICK AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT BEFORE WE TOOK IT TO HONDA. IT WAS A QUART LOW AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD US THAT IT WAS BARELY LOW. THEY LIED TO US. THEY ALSO TOLD US THIS IS NORMAL CONSUMPTION. WE CALLED HONDA DIRECTLY AND CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANYONE TO LISTEN TO US.

OUR 2011 HONDA CRV IS USING 1.4QTS OF OIL PER 1,325 MILES. WE HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER 3-4 TIMES CHECKING FOR LEAKS AND CRACKS AND FOUND NOTHING AND STATED THAT THIS WITHIN NORMAL HONDA RANGES IN OIL CONSUMPTION. THE DEALER FINALLY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ON THE VEHICLE AND ASKED HONDA CORPORATE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE REPAIRS TO REPLACE THE PISTONS AND RINGS UNDER THE 8 YEAR, 100,000 MILE EXTENEDED WARRANTY THAT HONDA HAS PURPOSED AS A "FIX." CORPORATE DENIED THE DEALER'S REQUEST TO FIX THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY. I CALLED CORPORATE MYSELF AND THE CASE MANAGER TOOK THE INFORMATION DOWN, BUT WAS DENIED AGAIN BY THE SAME EXECUTIVE THAT TALKED TO THE DEALER WITH THE SAME RESPONSE. I QUESTIONED THE "WARRANTY" AND STATED THAT IF IT WAS A TRUE WARRANTY, THEY WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MY GUESS IS THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY CHOSE THE ROUTE OF IGNORING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE TO KEEP ADDING OIL AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE AND JUST PLAIN FRUSTRATING!

I WAS POSITIONED AT AN INTERSECTION, WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE ONE I HAD, PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC DIDN'T CONCERN ME THAT MUCH.
