Level for oil change was at 30%, took it in and it only had 2.5 quarts of oil. No indication I was low, no oil leak, and it affected the valves. Honda of Lisle said this is common issue with 4 cylinder models, yet there is no recall. Now I have to check my oil every week and add as needed, and will have an large bill to replace the engine. The vehicle has only 61,000 miles.

Title: Engine Defect – Excessive Oil Consumption and VTC Actuator Failure My 2016 Honda CR-V (purchased from Mohawk Honda, serviced at Rensselaer Honda) developed a serious engine defect after only about 25,000 miles. The vehicle began consuming excessive oil, and later the VTC actuator failed, causing severe loss of power during acceleration and uphill driving, creating unsafe conditions. Dealership confirmed: •Excessive oil consumption from stuck piston rings. •White smoke due to oil burning. •VTC actuator and timing damage. •EPR cleaning service failed to fix the issue. Despite evidence of a manufacturing defect, Honda denied goodwill assistance. The dealership also gave unsafe instructions (drive 1,000 miles with low oil), which worsened the damage. This defect causes loss of power while driving, which is a serious safety hazard. I request NHTSA investigate Honda’s handling of piston ring and VTC defects. While driving at highway speeds almost a total loss of engine power occurred causing a safety issue. Five warning indicators lit at this time: Tire pressure monitoring system Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) Vehicle stability assist warning Electric power steering warning This problem resulted in a Honda Dealer service replacement of the High Pressure Fuel Pump which cost me over $2800 and another $400 for a rental car. There was a recall for the 2017-2020 CRV for an identical(?) issue. This 2016 may have been a later manufacture and had the same fuel pump. A very reputable local garage examined the car and were unwilling to repair the CRV because they were quite familiar with the frequent and problematic Honda CRV high pressure fuel pump issues. It was Drellishak's Service in Rocky River Ohio.

CVT complete transmission failure consistent with Service Bulletin 16-053 from Honda, dated September 9, 2016. I was not the owner of the car at this time, so a recall notice was never received by me. Currently, Transmission is being fully replaced at 94,000 miles at a cost of $5700. It is a safety issue, due to the car not being able to drive over 30mph, nearly stalling at traffic lights and stop signs. A rear end collision would be imminent.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle started to independently accelerate. The contact had taken her foot off the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle was still accelerating. The contact depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle was still accelerating. The contact had not observed any warning lights being illuminated. The contact entered a parking lot and depressed the brake pedal with force due to the vehicle independently accelerating. The contact was able to stop and shifted the vehicle into park(P). The contact observed that the vehicle was still revving, and the RPM was rising with the engine was revving. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times and was finally able to drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. Engine loosing oil inside the engine. Honda dealership Lemon Grove Honda reworked the engine. New Ring Set, Gasket kit, Spark plugs, coolant, oil seal, 2 o-rings 12.6 x 2.4 and 1 o-ring other. 1/27/23 Replaced pistons rings, including cylinder head gasket and spark plugs, after replacing rings and gasket tested said 1005 good Cost for me was $4397.86. Prior to this, they replaced the gaskets and spark plugs for $800. Complained that is might be the same problem again 5/24 and they charged me $2559.14 for labor and said it was not the same problem. Then in 9/24 it was seen then on 10/4 they said the problem was the same and engine was not good anymore. Looked for help with Honda, and none was given -- just told it was my tough luck. Noted that there is a recall on Honda engines in 2016 in the paper as of today 11/11/24. This should fall within that recall as it keeps failing.

The vehicle was taken to the same dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred a day later. The vehicle was then taken to the same dealer and the contact was informed that an unknown part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred within approximately 14 hours. I bought this car from Hillside Honda in Queens, NY in June 8th 2016. It was a floor model that I was told by the salesman I got a great deal on it and I found out later it wasn't true. Let me get to the point, I found out this car is a lemon car. From the frontal airbag to the engine, it's a complete nightmare. My focus is more on the engine itself. The vehicle vibrates too much, I keep this car well maintained. At 62,000 miles, I already changed the fuel pump, fuel injectors, spark plugs, ignition coil, the vehicle is still vibrating and dies while driving. I feel this is completely shocking. Never in my life in the last past decade, I never had any vehicle from 1993 to 2022 which I have this issue with. I reached out to many experienced mechanics, they all told me, this car wasn't built well. What else you need to change to make this car drivable. You can't use the AC on a hot summer, I regret every single day in my life buying a Honda. It was my dream car but I got a lemon. I need help because I'm stuck with this piece of work. I'm not willing to spend a dime more because I am the only owner who drives this vehicle since the day I bought it, I barely drive it because I want it to last long enough so I can enjoy my investment but as I said previously, at 62,000 the vehicle is completely useless. I found out from an OBD port sensor reporting that this vehicle was built with the wrong engine components, therefore it should be replaced. I want someone to conduct an investigation and take necessary action against Honda Motor Co. for what they've done to many consumers out there. I feel embarrassed to talk about this. I even overpaid for this junk and now I'm stuck with it. And I'm not the only one going through this.

I have a 2016 honda crv with a 1.5 turbo engine with 23,000 miles.I am getting fuel in the oil,and this is happening to all 1.5 engines. China will not let honda sell this engine.There is a class action lawsuit in California people cannot file for other states.My garage smells gas very bad.When I drive I have to let my front windows down and what will I do in winter I live in Missouri. my engine life span will be really short because the engine has fuel in it the main and rod bearings will fail. fuel vapors will bring on some kind of illness in the cabin.My name is [XXX] my address is [XXX] my phone number is [XXX]. Car shuts down intermittently after coming to a complete stop and accelerating to continue. It's shutting down in the middle of traffic, which makes for a very dangerous situation for my self, my child (which has witnessed it turn off) and for other drivers approaching my stopped vehicle in the middle of the road, this is very scary and my fear is that one day I won't be able to restart my car on time/in a split second to move it out of traffic quickly and will cause a very bad accident due to this shutting off. It has also shut off while at an incline a few times, which again is very nerve racking, to the point where I stopped using it, though it's my only means of transportation to work prior to dropping my child off for school. NO warning lights or messages have been noticed on the car. I have not had time or money to take it to dealership, only local mechanic which says they can't find any problem, I still have a car loan to pay and other financial obligations. It can be ready for inspection if needed.

Later on Friday I got a call stating they did another diagnostic test and said cylinder 3 misfiring still and now it’s the fuel injector so Honda Company what is going on with the Honda engines? I know feel unsafe with this vehicle! I see there are numerous complaints about this issue! Also the mechanic had to press the accelerator hard to get it to go, I was doing that already too, press the brake check engine light would go off and come back on when you press the accelerator to go! Multiple times I have gone to pull out onto a road and the car has hesitated and actually stalled a few times almost causing me to be hit. Starting in 2021. Around 70,000 miles the Check Engine light came on saying Emission Control problem and went off. Around this time it all began. At 80,000 miles it would cycle on and off intermittently "check engine" and they told me it was the Catalytic Convertor which i replaced at over $2,000 dollars in cost.. I still have the issue. Honda is hiding a problem and there are articles saying its the O2 and MAF sensors. causing these issues and the software also. Talking to a local repair shop he said I was the third Honda CRV he has seen this month. Hesitation, Stalling, Clogged Catalytic Converters?? , Acceleration not happening when you step on the gas pedal. I am not alone with this problem.

I was driving on the Interstate when my car suddenly lost power and I was put in an unsafe position of trying to get my car into the emergency lane. The warning lamps flashed on the dash and in particular the engine light., The car dropped speed from 70 to 20 mph and would not accelerate. Upon trying to accelerate the engine made a loud noise and would not accelerate. I had it towed and the car corrected from limp mode but I still don’t know if it will reoccur. I’ve had it looked at by my dealer and was told the car went into limp mode but they said they couldn’t pinpoint why. my car is available to be inspected.

These cars have had this problem for years according to an independent Honda garage. Wife complained the car wouldn't accelerate when the accelerator pedal was mashed. I thought it was a mistake she had caused. A week or so later, I experienced the same issue. I mashed the gas, entered a 4 lane 45 mph street & the car wouldn't accelerate. With cars bearing down, I don't know what I did, but managed to finally get the car to move. I've taught defensive driver training, road raced in SCCA & have well over a million miles behind the wheel, NEVER have I had this occur before. I'd heard of unintended acceleration, but I had just experienced non-intended acceleration. I talked to 4 different Honda service writers at different dealers, none admitted being aware of this problem. After multiple occurrences of the same issue, I went into an independent Honda garage, started explaining what had happened. The owner's wife came out from behind her desk, picked up 1 of 5 boxes on the counter & said, "This is your problem & why we keep this many cause it's a common & frequent problem," The box contained an Accelerator Position Sensor. She explained it is a common problem with Honda vehicles equipped with these position sensors. I've reported this problem before & wrote a letter to Honda America. I haven't heard of a resolution to replace these defective electronic sensors. If someone with my experience is almost hit by oncoming vehicles due to these defective accelerator position sensors, I wonder how many people have been injured or killed because their Honda would not accelerate when needed. It is something NHTSA needs to investigate. Enlist independent garages to determine how much of a problem these sensors pose, dealerships are not viable responders As a result of this continuing problem, we wanted to get rid of the vehicle, had an opportunity to sell the vehicle & did.

Car will shut off when still cold or at a complete stop and then when you press the gas to accelerate either the car will shut off and stall or will not go anywhere. Usually when that happens I put car in neutral and drive to go or put it on neutral rev it a few times then I can either drive or reverse. Already had this car serviced last year at the dealership was told faulty fuel injectors. Car drove good for about a year and now back to either stalls or doesn’t move. Really frustrating and a potential hazard especially when trying to make a left turn or right turn and stalls or doesn’t move.

The pistons and piston rings have failed, and the engine burns oil rapidly. There is no indication by the vehicle of the issue as far as any dashboard lights, etc. I brought my vehicle into the Honda dealership over a year ago with a noise the car was making. I was told by Honda that my car had burned oil, and to do an oil consumption test and the results would be submitted to Honda corporate. Honda corporate forced me to do multiple oil consumption tests for over a year while my car was still in warranty. Now that my car is out of warranty, Honda corporate will not pay for my car to get fixed. This is a huge safety issue because this car in that year's make & model will burn oil to the point without making the driver aware of it until the engine combusts and can destroy the engine entirely. Anyone with this year make & model should not have to worry about their car having a factory defect and the dealer refusing to pay for it. There is nothing I could have done to cause the piston and piston rings to fail. Especially for the fact that I am the first owner of this car.

Oil stick smells heavily of gas, the engine which my car has is known to inject too fuel in the oil. I have had it checked at the honda dealership and was informed, it was normal that there is nothing wrong, however when I check my oil stick it is very apparent that there is gas in the oil compartment. (my dipping stick should not smell like my gas tank) I will be having a second dealership look at the oil tank again.

I have submitted this complaint before. We sold the car rather than deal with a potential t-bone accident. When starting from a stop, as you would accelerate into a traffic lane the car without warning would suddenly act as if the key was turned off, ceasing to accelerate. Exiting our neighborhood onto a thoroughfare with typical 35-50 mph traffic, my wife & I both had frequent instances of this failure to accelerate or dead throttle response. With 50+ years of driving, 5 years of SCCA road racing, 5 years of teaching defensive driving, I'm still not sure what I've done to get the car to accelerate & avoid getting t-boned. Several Honda dealerships have acted as if this is an unknown situation/condition. Actually talked to 5 different Honda service writers who all denied that the problem existed. Went to an independent Honda garage who had 5 boxes of the offending part-Throttle Position Sensor-on their office counter. I was told it is a common problem, as evidenced by the number of TPS boxes they had. This is an extreme hazard & danger to anyone driving a Honda that uses this particular piece of hardware. I would urge a recall to force Honda to re-design this sensor to eliminate the potential non-acceleration issue.

I bought this car from Honda and I had to bring it back three times within the first 30 days for them to fix a window that was making a noise I also asked him if he could please take a look and drive my car because whenever I break or I’m trying to speed up my car seems to stall and the engine can’t catch up and then all of a sudden it bucks forward of course they said they cannot find the issue they will call the manager and no one has ever called me back to fix this issue I looked up recalls I don’t know if there is one on this vehicle or not but I need some help

On Sep 10 2020, when I drove the CR-V uphill on Crenshaw southbound near Indian Peak, it could not accelerate and get into "limp" mode. No engine light was on. Once I was able to use momentum to pull over, restarted the car, it was driving as normal. I drove it to the nearest Honda dealer and left with them for a week. They could reproduce the issue by driving exactly to the same spot. They investigated and replaced the whole tank of fuel, suspecting water in the gas tank. On Sep 19 2021, my husband was driving on Lancaster 14 north bound (uphill). The CR-V go into "limp" mode and could not accelerate. Engine light turned on soon after. He was able to cruise to the shoulder and restart the vehicle. Once it was restarted, the engine light turned off, the car could go again, and he drove and left it to the nearest dealer, they could not find any issue. On Nov 7 2021, as I am driving on 73 toll road north bound (uphill) near Catalina View Toll Booth, CR-V traveling around 65 MPH started to get into "limp" mode and I could not accelerate it pressing the gas pedal, then the engine light turned on. I was able to cruise by momentum and pull to the shoulder. I stopped and restarted the car, and it was able to travel again. All through my trip afterward (405 NB), the car felt "choked" and "stuttered" when I tried to accelerate.

The car vibrates so much my hands will shake on the steering wheel while idling and at time while driving. Any items in the car will shake. Complained to service department everytime vehicle brought in for service. Was told nothing could be done to fix issue and vibration is normal.

Honda CRV E-XL bought in 2016 from Coral Springs Honda, FL and always maintained at Honda Dealership died on freeway on 08/06/2021 in approximately 5 years. When towed in nearest Firestone they routed to Honda as they suspect the coolant has breached into 4 cylinders. Honda Dealership (First Texas Honda Austin ) is quoting around $10000 for a new engine replacement for 3 - 4 grand for an older engine of similar miles. My question is does Honda engines typically dies at 50k mile marks. I trusted Honda to last for 200k plus. Does Honda need to instrospect the engines manufactured for 2016 CRVs. What went wrong to this engine does it requires Honda to recall 2016 Honda CRV as I would have met an accident due to my car dying all of sudden on a freeway. The car started giving fumes from AC vent and all the warning light flashed on the dashboard. Please please help me getting my car fixed as I cannot afford that much of money. STARTED THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING A BIT ROUGH. PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE ROARED AND ACCELERATED. TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE. IT DID NOT WORK. FORTUNATELY DID NOT HIT ANY OTHER CARS IN THE PARKING LOT. THE CAR JUMPED OVER THE CURB AT THE EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT, WENT INTO A DITCH AND HIT A TREE. CAME TO A STOP. THE AIRBAG WAS ACTIVATED. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AT HIGH RPM. FORTUNATELY THIS MALFUNCTION HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT ON A BUSY CITY ROAD !!!!! THIS BIZARRE INCIDENT POINTS TO POTENTIAL MALFUNCTION OF THE COMPUTER CONTROLS. FORENSIC INVESTIGATION IS NEEDED TO RULE OUT THIS POSSIBILITY.

THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND IN Q1 OF 2020. A TECH STATED THAT THE SOUND HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THE LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE ENGINE. I HAD NOTICED THE KNOCKING SOUND ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING UP OR DOWN AT AN ANGLE AND ALSO ON TURNS. THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED SEVERAL OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AND THE KNOCKING PERSISTED. IN Q3 OF 2020, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE VTEC THINKING THIS WOULD BE THE FIX. THEN IN JANUARY 2021, WHEN THE OIL INDICATOR WAS AT 35%, THE KNOCKING BEGAN AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP OPENED UP THE ENGINE AND FOUND THAT THE SPARK PLUGS, PISTONS AND PISTON RINGS ARE ALL FOULED, AND THAT OIL HAS SEEPED INTO THESE ENGINE PARTS. HONDA CORPORATE HAS OFFERED TO PAY FOR A PORTION BUT NOT ALL OF THE REPAIR COST WHICH IS $5400. THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO 8 YEARS AND 125,000 MILES WHICH IS WHAT WAS PROVIDED TO CARS IN THE OFFER FOR 2010-2011 CRVS AND 2011 ACCORDS WERE GIVEN BY HONDA ACCORDING TO A MAY 15, 2015 ARTICLE FOR THIS SAME DEFECT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY WAS JUMPED AND THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. NO DEFECTS WERE DETECTED. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE MULTIPLE TIMES, THE VEHICLE'S ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, THE BATTERY INDICATOR AND THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE THEN SHUT OFF, WHICH CAUSED HER TO LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT COMPLETELY DIED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AGAIN, BUT NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED NOT TO START AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ATTACH A COMPONENT TO THE VEHICLE, PROVIDED BY THE MECHANIC, THAT WOULD PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM FAILING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.

THE BRAKE AND THE GAS ARE ONLY 2.5 INCHES APART. WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE MY FOOT WAS PINNED UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL AND CAUSING THE CAR TO GO 5 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN I TURN ON THE HEATER TO MAX SO IT GOES TO 800 RPM, THE VIBRATION STOPS. BUT ONCE THE HEATER IS OFF AND IT DROPS BACK TO 600-700 RPM, THE VIBRATION COMES BACK. VERY DISAPPOINTED SINCE HONDA JUST CLAIMED THAT THEY FIXED THIS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY NOT TRUE.
