I am reporting a recurring safety issue with my 2017 Honda CR-V. The vehicle has experienced repeated incidents where multiple warning lights suddenly illuminate at the same time. In some instances, the lights disappear temporarily and then return. I replaced the battery, but the warning lights returned within two weeks. About one year ago, the Honda dealer recommended replacing all four fuel injectors, which I did at significant cost. Despite this repair, the problem reoccurred. Most recently, all warning lights came on again and the vehicle lost power and became undrivable. This presents a serious safety concern, especially if it occurs while driving. I have learned that many other 2017 Honda CR-V owners report similar fuel injector and warning-light issues. I believe this may indicate a widespread defect and request that NHTSA investigate this matter for potential recall or corrective action. Thank you for pay close attention to this matter!

Driving down a local road with a speed limit of 40 mph. The car suddenly braked and the BRAKE warning light show on the dashboard. No others cars were near me, in all direction. It was clear sunny/dry day. Had to accelerate to prevent car from stop. to s void a possible rear end crash.

I have had my crv suddenly brake on me on multiple occasions when absolutely no one is around to cause it. It’s created many of close calls and given me mild whip lash in the past. But yesterday it happened in a way much worse than ever bc I was on the interstate and it abruptly stopped (again no one in front of me or to the side) which jolted me and gave me some brutal whiplash and then it was locked up & wouldn’t go faster than 20mph!! I was in the left lane & I almost got hit by multiple people behind me & almost died! I had to drive like this for 3-5 minute (hazards on of course) until I could ‘safely’ pull over. Once i turned it off and turned it back on, it went back to accelerating normally. I have taken my car to the Honda dealership for every oil change I’ve gotten & this issue has never come up on their full vehicle inspection. I cannot emphasize enough how close I came to dying bc of this. I really hope a resolution or recall happens sooner than later bc I’m now learning there’s 1000’s of people online saying they’ve had similar experiences. It should not take years to address this when there are so many lives at stake. Please help. Sincerely, terrified to drive my car now (& that’s not good considering I drive for work)

Date of Incident: [XXX] Location: NYC, [XXX]. Mileage: 95,000 Description of Incident: On [XXX] while driving my 2017 Honda CR-V at approximately [XXX] at 20 mph I experienced a sudden brake system failure. When I pressed the brake pedal fully to stop the vehicle, the pedal felt extremely hard and resistant, and the vehicle continued moving, failing to slow or stop as expected and hitting the vehicle in front. While no major accident happened due to how slow I was going, This occurred as I was approaching a traffic light. I did not apply the electronic parking brake (EPB) during the incident. No warning lights were illuminated on the dashboard at the time of the failure. Immediately after the incident, the brakes began functioning normally again, suggesting an intermittent issue. I am concerned about the reliability of the brake system, especially given reports of brake issues in 2017–2019 CR-Vs. I have not yet had the vehicle inspected but plan to tow it to a Honda dealership or mechanic for diagnosis. I am reporting this to ensure the NHTSA is aware of this potential safety defect, which may be related to the ongoing investigation into 2017–2019 Honda CR-V brake systems. Driving 25 mph on a straight road, the automatic braking system engaged with beep sound only but not on the dash display as it should. the car was suddenly braked to a stop. nothing was near or in front of the car.

While driving down a main road, with no other vehicles or obstacles around/in front of me, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) beeped/flashed and my car came to almost a dead stop in the middle of the road. This happened without warning, or any previous warning/issues. Luckily no accident happened, as I don't believe a vehicle was behind me (but this could've gone horribly wrong had there been). It was a very windy day. I took it to a Honda dealership the same week, they found no issues and also could not reproduce this. I called Honda Customer Service, who was apologetic, but really no help, and only filed a complaint for me. I see this as being a high potential safety hazard for accidents, etc., and it makes me nervous now driving my vehicle, especially since this is something I cannot turn off. I wanted to file a report here as well, in hopes that investigations are happening for this issue.

We have had this problem more than once but this morning it nearly caused an accident. My husband was driving to work and all of a sudden the car's automatic breaking system caused the car to stop dead, causing the car behind him to have to swerve up on the sidewalk to avoid hitting him. He was not going over a metal plate, there waDSs no car stopped in front of him. This has happened at least ten times in the time we have owned the car and we have been INCREDIBLY lucky that it has not caused an accident, but it's still clearly a problem. We have complained about this to the dealership when we bring it in but they just shrug since they can't reproduce it and it seems to happen randomly. Just all of a sudden driving along BRAKE will flash on the dashboard and the car will stop abruptly.

Multiple times when driving the vehicle will slam on the brakes without warning when there is nothing in front of the vehicle. I have taken it to Honda multiple times and they cannot fix it due to being unable to recreate the spontaneous issue. Also, they did try to recalibrate the sensor, and it still did not work. I don't feel safe driving this car and can't sell it knowing it is dangerous.

Vehicle braked to a sudden stop while crossing intersection which was completely clear of any traffic. The road surface had street car rail lines which were well maintained and even. We were lucky to be wearing seat belts at the time. This is the second occasion it happened. I pray that it will not happen during freeway driving speed. We had a tire flat, then the following warning lights and alarms repeated sound for up to one minute and appear every time the car is started: Brakes, Brake System Light, TPMS Light, Engine Check Light, Road Departure Light, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem, Emissions System Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hole System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem. Risk: is obvious Confirmed by independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. There were not any warnings prior.

Braking system. Vehicle brakes did not brake and vehicle skidded over gravel and a driveway culvert. Vehicle was considered total loss because the airbag went off. My safety and others' was put at risk. Other questions, answer is UNKNOWN.

I was driving about 25 miles per hour, there were no cars in front of me (in either direction). The car suddenly slammed on the brakes for no reason. My passenger and I were both thrown towards the steering wheel and dashboard, things came flying from the back seat to the front, falling down by the pedals. I was very nearly rear ended, the car behind me was able to swerve to the left but was extremely angry. The car went into neutral, but possibly because something came from the back seat and hit the gearshift, I'm not sure about that. I was stuck in neutral with traffic horns blaring at me. If I'd have been pulling out into traffic when this happened I would easily have been hit broadside. I brought my car to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong and that perhaps I didn't understand how the system works. I'm certain that it is not meant to bring the car to a screeching halt when there is literally nothing in front of you anywhere.

I took my CRV to replace the tires and get the brakes done. The mileage was 134583. While in the shop the mechanic showed me the brake lines for the front. Both front brake lines had large bulges, balloon-like, and appeared ready to burst. It seemed unusual for both brake lines to exhibit the same failure, at the same time, through regular wear and tear. In reviewing available data, brake lines are expect to last the life of the vehicle and this certainly did not, presenting a potential safety risk. I asked the mechanic to provide me with the brake lines, which I have included photos of below, and will share with Honda (Heritage Honda in Bel Air, MD) where the vehicle was purchased. Note the bulges in the photo are much less once the brake lines were disconnected; however the area where the bulges were is still apparent.

History: Vehicle brakes failed suddenly while in motion. Brake System problem was flashing on the dashboard followed by various electronic system failure messages. The problem first occurred on Nov 3, 2023 and was reported to NHTSA with issue # 11553355. The issue was also reported to American Honda (Case # XXX). Vehicle logged an error code. Honda dealership could not diagnose the cause of the issue and hence they could not provide any fix. I was advised to bring the vehicle back if the problem occurs again since the problem appears intermittent. Recent update: The problem occurred again twice in July 2024 under the same circumstances as mentioned above from Nov 2024. The vehicle is now with dealership for inspection. No root cause has been identified yet at the time of reporting the issue but it is being suspected that a fault might be with Electric Brake Booster component. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Brakes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Very risky as I lost an ability by approx. 90% to stop the vehicle. Fortunately, no vehicle was in front of me, I was not approaching pedestrian crossing, or traffic signal. Every signal sensor in my car went off after 100k miles. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. Car stopped working and came to a complete stop on highway with my child in it which was not only terrifying but put us obviously in a life threatening situation. Brought it to Honda dealership-they cleared codes and said they could figure out what was wrong because their software was down. Made an appointment with Honda in a different city to check my rear brake actuator sensor as I had had my brakes replaced prior to these codes showing up. Had to have the car towed to the dealership as it would not drive at this point. The dealership put a VT sylenoid in and said it was good to go. I asked about the brakes, they said they showed no issue. 30 days later while on the highway AGAIN with my child, all the same sensors came on and the car notified me to pull over to safety. I brought my car back to the dealership, they said they changed the left wheel sensor and all codes were cleared and the car was ready to be picked up. I go to the dealership and turn on my car, two seconds not even off the lot and ALL the SAME sensors are back on. Now Honda is telling me that I need a brand new computer installed for $1400.00 to fix the issue, after I already spent $1500 at this point. Obviously I have called American Honda, but this has been an absolute nightmare.

All vehicle alerts came on, vehicle randomly started braking hard while driving. We brought it to the dealership, told it needs all new fuel injectors and a VSA module. VSA module is on backorder, no timeline for a new one. Told vehicle is unsafe to drive without VSA module.

Steering component locks up causing the vehicle to become slightly difficult to make turns and I get clicking sounds from steering column took vehicle to get fixed at independent service center they installed new rack and pinion plus other parts and with labor cost over four thousand dollars paper invoice available upon request I’ve owned Honda 2017 crv lx since 2017 which I bought new. Problem started in the beginning of May of 2024. No warming lights messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the start of problem.

What I experienced was a multiple system failure. It began with a dead battery two years ago. When the engine was restarted the TPMS light came on along with the indicator light to get your car checked. The lights only came on intermittently at first and it didn't seem to affect the function of the car. I had assumed that when I replaced the battery, I had loosened a fuse. As time passed, the number of lights on the dashboard increased along with the duration of time they stayed lit up. Now, within the past 3 months, all the system indicator lights are on constantly, with the accompanying beeps, dings and sounds for each light. Yesterday, on the highway, my dashboard began to dim and the vehicle began to stutter. The dashboard indicator read Critical Failure Detected. Stop Driving When Safe. At the time I was on the highway in the right lane going 51 mph. This is unsafe. I have children and grandchildren and I do not feel safe transporting any of them. The incident happened on 11/2/2023 at 8:40 AM ET. I was at the speed of about 25-30 miles/hour to drop my daughter at preschool. Suddenly, I received an alert on my dashboard saying "Brake System Problem". When I applied brakes, the vehicle wouldn't stop. I pressed brake pedal very hard and kept it that way for a while. The vehicle gradually came to a stop but it took long for a vehicle to come to a stop. It was a 'brake failure experience'. If there was a downward slope and/or if I was at a higher speed, the vehicle would have gone out-of-control. I don't recall if I felt automatic acceleration when this incident happen. After vehicle came to a stop, I immediately engaged the parking brake, stopped the ignition, called emergency road-side assistance and got the vehicle towed to a dealership. This incident definitely put me, my 3 year old daughter, and others on the road at risk. Dealership inspected the vehicle. They found an error code that confirms the occurrence of the problem but they are unable to duplicate the issue. They don't know why it happened, nor can they guarantee that this will not happen again. They said they followed manufacturers guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Since they cannot find why it happened, they don't have anything to fix, and advised me to pay the labor charges and pick my vehicle. I reported this issue to American Honda. Case # 14229789. They were concerned that the brakes should have responded well since the model is not hybrid or fully electric. This makes me feel more nervous. American Honda said they are going to investigate this and will get in touch with the dealership where the vehicle currently is. This vehicle was inspected and serviced at the same Honda dealership about 3 weeks ago. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained. All routine maintenances have been done at Honda dealership consistently on time. The vehicle has relatively new battery from 2022. I request you to look into the matter and advise.

The engine failed and I was stranded 60 miles from home.all the dash lights were blinking and I couldn’t get the parking brake to unlock . It is available for inspection . I was stranded at a service station with another senior citizen for three hours in 100 degree plus weather. We were stranded and our safety was compromised as we waited for help . I had it towed to a dealer 20 miles away . Rented a hotel and got an Uber to the car the next morning . The auto repair person examined the car and determined that the turbo fan had disintegrated and was sucked into the engine . After further rested he reported the engine had failed and it would cost $8 000. Many of the lights and sensors suddenly began to blink . The car lost some power but we were able to limp to the gas station . Hello [XXX] , Here are my technicians findings, due to the metal moving through the oil passages he recommends replacing the engine and turbo "verified engine running rough. retrieved operative dtcs p0299(PGM-FI) and u0416-68(IDSS). U0416-68 likely caused by millimeter wave radar software. rec. update. p0299 and rough running. turbo underboost issue. road tested and captured snapshots. found turbo not boosting. found intercooler and pipes not leaking. found evap purge not leaking. inspected and found turbocharger turbine damaged. turbine debris through intake system from turbo to throttle body and into intake. on road test dtc p2101 electric throttle control malfunction was set and vehicle entered limp mode. found significant debris in throttle body likely causing dtc. suspect debris has entered engine and potential cause for further problems. can only speculate cause for turbo failure. oiling system may be cause. teardown would be necessary for further identification of cause. engine and turbo replacement recommended" Please let me know if you have any other questions i can help answer. I bought this car on April 30,2022 for $30,000. It had18,0000 (plus) miles. Within 6 months the idiot lights would come on and all safety controls were cancelled. When this first happened, I was frightened that I would be involved in an accident or the car would just shut down. I called a Dealer close by and was told by their service manager to take it to an Auto store, have them put it on their computer to tell me what was wrong. I did that. Was told I needed an oil change. Had the oil change and things were ok for about 4 days when all lights came back on again scaring the h__l out of me. Had a private mechanic check it out and was told it needed an oxygen sensor. Then the car wouldn't start. Turned out the battery was low, so I replaced the battery. Warning lights did not go on for a couple of days. I then went to the local Honda dealer who told me to bring the car in and for $190 they would use their computers to tell me what was wrong. Can you imagine what Chutzpa that takes? They, knowing what the problem was yet charging me to tell me. I am now out of State. Took vehicle into closest dealership for oil change, tire rotation. Told service of dashboard lights, what I had done so far, and asked them to figure out problem. They said I needed $1500 fuel injectors which would have been covered by the warranty but that ran out on length of time. The car only had 30,000 miles but was 6 years old. Suggested I ask Honda for an extension of the warranty to cover costs. The lights are still continuously on now. All safety features are essentially off. I am afraid to drive it in fear of having an accident. I have contacted America Honda for an extension of the warranty and will attach that timeline and phone calls to/from them. The reason for doing this is that I do not believe installing new fuel injectors will fix this problem. I think it is in the computer system itself. And I am in danger of having a crash.09

All safety sensors on the dashboard are lighting up without any reason. Car is able to be driven properly (for now) but every safety sensor appears when I turn the car on and when I drive the car. From what I've read on the internet, could be a fuel injection problem.

I was going ~60-65MPH on the Ronald Reagan freeway east bound on a rainy day at ~ 3:40pm on 27th December 2022. I was going on the second from left lane between the Rinaldi and Porter Ranch exits. Unbeknownst to me this part of the freeway is notorious for flooding in the left lanes. I applied the brakes gently to slow down my car. Suddenly, I felt I lost steering, the car skidded the steering wheel turned left into the median barrier. The car then made a complete U-turn in the direction of traffic and flipped over one complete revolution. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the crash and other cars were not involved. There were no warnings and indication that the car was hydroplaning. The skidding safety feature was turned on. I released the car to the insurance company to recover monetary loss and I don't have any information on if it was inspected. CHP has an accident report with number 9580. The reason I am reporting this incident is because, I believe me gently braking to slow down from 60-65 to 50-55MPH should not have caused the car to U-turn and flip. I believe the 2017 Honda CRV safety system malfunctioned because unbeknownst to the Honda Sensing system the car was already hydroplaning. It braked and made some automatic steering and braking decisions that caused the car to turn and flip. I believe the control algorithm of the 2017 Honda CRV failed to detect the car was hydroplaning and subsequently executed steering and braking decisions that caused the total loss of my car.

Brake sensor warning light randomly came on. Emergency brake would't disengage. ABS module defective and had to be completely replaced and reprogrammed. Vehicle has less than 75000 miles; one owner.

for the 3rd time the vehicle's brakes have failed. First time was April of 2021 when the brakes failed and the car went backwards and did not stop and knocked over my mailbox and went into the road. I then put the car in drive and went forward and had to put the gear in Park quickly. I had the Honda dealership examine the car and found no problem. The same problem occurred earlier this year when I backed up and the brakes failed the same way. This time I went into the street. I had the car towed to Honda dealership and they found nothing wrong. Last Wednesday I was slowly pulling into a car space when at a low speed the brakes failed and slammed into a client's building. Damage occurred to their building. I am waiting for the dealership to examine the car Wednesday Nov 2. I am afraid to drive the car.

Driving in my neighborhood there is construction work being done, where metal plates have been placed in the road. When driving over these metal plates, I begin to lightly apply brakes as to slow down driving over these metal plates. The Automatic Braking System alerts me to BRAKE in the Notification Center of my dashboard & automatically applies the brakes to a complete stop. This has happened twice now, in the same place of my neighborhood resulting in my seatbelt tightening & the car to jolt myself forward. Eventually this will result in an accident if there is a car traveling behind me the next time I go over these metal plates. This problem has been reported my numerous other drivers of 2016-2020 Honda Vehicles and is currently under investigation. After my research, it has become clear to me that when vehicles are taken to dealerships after these incidents they are returned without any indication of problems with the vehicles. I have a small child and often travel with my dog, unrestrained in my vehicle as most pet owners do and am concerned that if they are in the vehicle the next time this happens & there just so happens to be a car behind me, one or all of us would be hurt. Because Honda is taking its time to address this problem, and issue a recall the dealerships will do nothing about it until that point.

I've reporter to Honda dealer about seat and brake pedal squeaking when pressed several times when my vehicle was under warranty. They always said its normal wear and tear. Car only had 12,000 miles on it at the time. Fast forward to 30K miles, they finally greased the brake pedal and noise went away for another 10K but returned. I was then told its hydrolic brake so it's normal. But I know its not normal to have squeaking noise like that. Moreover, seat squeaking noise has gone worse now. I can literally not take the noise to the point I try not to move at all while driving. I was told this is normal behavior and if I want to replace it it'll cost me $$$$. This should've been covered under warranty and I have few other friends and coworkers with similar issues and they're also being told to deal with it. Adaptive cruise control is ok as long as you don't change the lane or someone in front of you doesn't change the lane. I was going 45mph one night when I had adaptive cruise control turned on. It was seeing the car in front of me and there was a red light coming up. Car in front of me decided to change lane and after that my car failed to recognize the car in front of me stopping for red light. I was at 25mph due to all cars slowing down but as soon as the car front of me changed lane, my car speed accelerated to 45mph and almost hit the car stopped at red light. I slammed the brake so hard to avoid the accident that night. My entire family was freaked out after that and stopped trusting adaptive cruise control.

On Saturday June 18, 2022 at 9:56 a m I was pulling my 2017 HONDA CRV into a parking space at my local Food Lion in Madison, NC. As soon as I took my foot off the gas pedal and slowly pressed the brakes, the engine immediately revved up, accelerated highly and lurched forward not stopping until I hit an unoccupied vehicle head on in front of me. At the same time side swiping an unoccupied vehicle to the left of me. Thankfully no one was injured. Total of {3} vehicles involved causing several thousands dollars of damage. Was inspected by the police and there were no warning signs; it just happened immediately. When researching on line about problems of HONDA CRV"s this issue was listed numerous times: UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. Something needs to be done about this problem before people are killed!

I was parked at a local pharmacy. I put the vehicle in reverse and the car would not move I had to call a tow truck to take my car to my home. I was advised by a mechanic who read my car electronically that it was the RR Brake Caliper Only the left side is responding the right is totally out and that's why it's locked up. I now have to take my vehicle back to the Honda dealership to get it fixed. I've had to get rides to work and unsure if this is covered under my warranty. If not I'll have to pay with funds that I do not have. The vehicle had been shaking slightly as I made stops that day. If I had been on the road I may have been rear-ended if I had to make a stop. There were no warning information messages prior to this incident occurring.

Brake warning activated for no apparent reason and brakes were engaged while traveling at 45 mph and 30 mph on two occasions. Fear rear end collision, but in both instances there was no collisions. Have not taken it to dealer based on research of this problem as reported by other drivers. No inspections were made at the time of this writing. Brake warning light came on with no time to react and brakes were engaged without driver intervention.

Driving around 18MPH, I was approaching a small bridge when the brake message appeared simultaneously to the automatic braking of the car. Luckily, I was going slowly, no one in front of or behind me. It was extremely abrupt and frightening. I cannot imagine what might have happened if I had been going faster.

I was driving down the road going about 45. All of the sudden the orange brake warning came up on my dash, the car beeped, and the brakes engaged themselves and I came to almost a complete stop. I cannot check off enough of the listings of problems with this car. I believe that they are all connected to one central computer malfunction in the vehicle ADAS system. This car was purchased new I first reported it to Honda we had 500 miles on the car. made periodic completes since with the only answer provided was nothing wrong however they did perform a radio update wow. So the problem is I have every warning light going off in the car from lane departure, hill assist start, front end collision, Brakes, airbags, Engine, cruise control, stability along with others. afraid to drive the car for i am not sure what the computer is going to do next accelerate or sudden stop. I was turning left onto another road at the same low speed as I have made this same turn at the same location many times before. The weather was dry and sunny. During the turn the brakes grabbed hold for no apparent reason. There were no other cars in front of me nor behind me. I have made this same turn subsequent to this event with no problem. The braking released on its own within 2-3 seconds. This car had about 70,000 miles on it when this occurred. If a car had been behind me, it is very likely I would have been rear ended.

On at least 2 different occasions, the brakes my 2017 Honda CRV suddenly engaged without me touching the brake pedal. Once was on I-75 when there was no traffic in front of me and no traffic on the sides. It just braked momentarily with the brake warning light on the dash appearing. It almost immediately returned to proper operation. Another time I was driving in city traffic while crossing an intersection and the brakes suddenly engaged. Again, it was a momentary situation and my foot was not on the brake pedal. I have also had repeated problems with my main display-sometimes the screen goes black and I am unable to turn radio off or change stations. Other times, the a/c or heater and defrost will not operate and then after driving for 15-30 mins it suddenly turns on and I have heat or ac and the screen returns to normal operation. The dealer has been unable to fix.

Phantom breaking occured roughly 2 MONTHS after purchasing the vehicle (new) in the middle of the freeway. The forward collision for some reason had a false negative, and the brakes seized up. I was able to safely pull over, but after restarting the vehicle, the car would not move. The brakes were still seized from the safety system, and would not allow the vehicle to move forward. After about an hour, and constant tries, for some reason - the brakes released and we were able to drive the vehicle again. We went straight to the dealership, to inspect. They had the car for a couple days, the mechanic also took the car home on his commute (~100 miles roundtrip), but was not able to recreate. There was no charge for the vehicle as it was still under warranty.

On at least two occasions, I have been driving at Interstate speeds in the Peoria IL and Danville IL metro regions, and the car has braked hard, with the warning of a forward collision imminent. In one instance I was driving west on I-74 at the east most end of the Murray Baker Bridge when the car break was applied automatically, reducing my speed by about 20 miles per hour while there was traffic behind me. No injuries. At the time I assumed it was the angle of the car going up the hill onto the bridge, and that the car detected the bridge structure above. In the other incident, I was driving in Danville IL with no traffic anywhere near me, and the car beeped, alerted that the forward collision was imminent, and the breaks were applied hard. It possibly reduced my speed 10 MPH or so, but was hard enough for my body to move forward. No cars around, no obstacles around. I had no idea what the vehicle detected. It was not raining or snowing, or anything like that at the time of either incident.

I have experienced automatic emergency braking of my vehicle at various times for no reason ~ I was not approaching another car or in congested traffic. Fortunately, in every instance, there has not been another vehicle immediately behind me. I have communicated this problem verbally to the Honda dealer and was advised all systems appear to be functioning correctly. The most severe instance was when I was going over a metal plate placed over the roadway during street repair. At other times, it will happen when approaching one particular intersection in my city. In any event, something in the automatic braking system is flawed. Good idea but there are dangerous "bugs" that need to be worked out.

My 2017 C R V Honda has twice experienced sudden and unexpected braking. The first time it braked very hard and displayed warning lights at the same time. The car was clean and no obstructions were present. My speed was approximately 40 mph. There was no traffic in front or behind me. The second time there was no traffic and the car didn’t brake as hard. There was a warning light at the same time as the braking occurred. Lately I’ve also had problems with the ADAS system. Several times it has disabled itself and displayed multiple warning messages. I’ve brought these problems to the Honda dealership attention with no satisfaction and only getting generic answers.

On five separate occasions, my Honda CR-V, the collision mitigation braking system (CMGS) slammed on the brakes and stopped the car when I was approaching a flat plate on the road. I had no vehicle even close in front of my car. The BRAKE light flashes everytime this happens. On four of those occasions, I have narrowly averted being hit from behind. Thank goodness, I had slowed down to under 25 MPH, but everything in the car went flying. My safety, the safety of my dog who was tethered in the back seat, the safety of my grandchildren in the back seat and the safety of the car behind me in traffic was at risk. I have found that this system can be turned off, but this has to be done everytime the car is started. I can see other reports of this problem on the Internet. My next step is to take it to the dealer.

While I have been driving the automatic braking system will engage bringing the car to a stop. This has happened on several occasions while I have driving on the toll road at 65 miles/hr and on residential streets. Each time the car dramatically slows and the orange brake like flashes. These incidents have occurred with no cars surrounding my car, it just occurs out of the blue. I'm reporting because this occurred this past weekend and it brought my car to a dead stop slamming me and my passenger, our seat belts stop us from hitting the steering wheel or glove box. System Failure: Fuel Emissions System Problem and all other warning lights are on. Safety: Cruise control does not function and automatic breaking does not function. Dealership: Yes, the problem was reproduced even after the spark plugs and rocket arm assembly were replaced inside the limits of the 6 year unlimited mileage warranty. The dealership acknowledged that 5 or 6 other customers were in with similar complaints this month. Others: an independent garage inspected the vehicle and confirmed that a warranty should cover this problem some 8 months ago. Indications are a weak cylinder may be the root cause of the fuel emissions system problem in addition to the fuel injectors and pipes. Warning lamps, messages and other symptoms were present prior to the failure and appeared well before the manufacturer's warranty expired. The dealership we purchased the vehicle from failed to locate the problem and did not repair when we first discovered the problem and brought the vehicle in for repair in 11/2020. We recently contacted Honda Corporation directly and they gave us a case number for reference while they review this complaint.

All the warning lights come on while driving. I have to disconnect the battery to reset it. I get the brake warning signal when no other vehicles are around. At times my vehicle will slow down with no other vehicles close to me. This issue could cause an accident if someone is around. I had to turn the walk away feature off due to the alarm continuously sounding. My vehicle was inspected by a dealer for the issue with the alarm sounding. They weren’t able to give a definite cause and suggested I turn the walk away feature off. The other issues have been occurring since February of 2020 and have not been inspected. My vehicle is available for inspection. All of these issues occur at different times. The warning lights started coming back on October 15, 2021.

The electrical wiring malfunctioned and all the warning notifications are sounding on the dashboard. Tire Monitoring System, Brake System, Brake Hold System, Vehicle Stability Problem, Hillside Assist Problem, Road Departure Migration System, etc... Also, the Emergency Brake engages every time the car turns off. We cannot disable this feature. We have to take the emergency brake off every time we turn the car on. When this happens, the only way to terminate the warning notifications is to disconnect the battery and wait 15-20 minutes. We are concerned the emergency brake could malfunction and engage when the car is driving.

Problem 1: My car has 30,000 miles but her Honda since it is past the 36 months it is no longer under warranty. Problem 2: I feel this is a safety issue due to the nature of the failure and the consequences of an immediately failure rendering the car undriveable. This is how the problem unfolded. I started the car. Immediately "System failures" started scrolling across the dash system including Power Brake Failure. I called Honda service, explained what was happening, and Per the Honda service representative, I was told I could drive the car in. I explained the car would not come out of park thus I could not drive it. I was then told how to manually get the car out of park to drive it in for evaluation. I put it in reverse to get out of the garage and when I tried to stop the car I and had no brakes or steering. I got the car to stop by standing with both feet and all my weight on the brake peddle. I Had towed on a flat bed tow truck into Ed Napleton Honda. I was told by Honda that they have never seen this system failure without "a rodent being involved" as they chew threw the housing and then chew on the wires causing the electrical problem. After about 36 hours I was called and told that they had to replace the Brake Power Booster sensor, "no evidence of rodent involvement" and no explanation of why the part failed. I was informed that before further evaluation could be done there was no choice but to replace the Power Booster. I was told it would be $2600.00 and that even if it was not the problem, I had to pay for the repair for they could continue the evaluation process. This is 3 X the cost of the part per another source I called. I also feel I could have been killed/injured or killed and/or injured other people on the road if this had happened when I was driving as there was no pre warning of the problem and having the Certified Service Associate telling me to drive the car knowing that I had total system failure's scrolling across my dash.

2017 Honda CRV Touring 19, 647 miles. As I was approaching a red light, I stepped on my brake to slow down and brake for the red light. Upon trying to stop, I had NO BRAKE POWER WHATSOEVER. Having no brake power I could not stop, I did have an accident and hit another vehicle. My vehicle still would not stop as I continued to try and brake. I drifted approximately 1/2 mile from the accident until it fully stopped. My airbag went off and my Honda Link did contact the police and ambulance. I had minor injuries and just went to my primary physician. I do have a police report. At this time it is at an independent collision center, once repaired it will go to Honda for scanning and diagnose. I am told it can be repaired, BUT, who will diagnose why this happened, and I don’t know why automatic emergency braking system didn’t work.

REPLACED ORIGINAL BATTERY (3 YEARS OLD) HOWEVER, WHEN REMOTELY LOCKING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE LIGHTS ARE STILL NOT FLASHING AND NO BEEP IS HEARD. WE HAVE A 2017 HONDA CR-V. ON APRIL 29, 2020, I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET GOING ABOUT 20-25 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES OR ANY OTHER OBSTACLE IN FRONT OF MY CAR. WITHOUT WARNING, AND ON ITS OWN, THE CAR'S ORANGE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A HARD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE ITEMS ON THE BACK SEAT WERE THROWN TO THE FLOOR AND WE WERE THROWN FORWARD IN OUR SEATS IN THE FRONT ENOUGH THAT THE SEAT BELTS ENGAGED. THIS WAS INSTANT AND THEN IMMEDIATELY THE CAR RESUMED TO NORMAL OPERATION. WE NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THEY HAD NOT HEAD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND THAT HONDA DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALL FOR THIS YET. WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY WITH NO TRAFFIC OR OBSTACLES IN FRONT, ALL HONDA SENSING SUITE FEATURES RANDOMLY FAIL AND TRIGGER A SERIES OF WARNING MESSAGES FLASHING SEQUENTIALLY ON THE HUD INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE FOLLOWING: LKAS, COLLISION MITIGATION, BRAKING, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, AND ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEMS. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES STIFF AND BRAKES FEEL UNRESPONSIVE BUT SOMETIMES ENGAGE TO STOP THE CAR EVEN IF STOPPING IS UNSAFE, SUCH AS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH NO CARS IN FRONT. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY IN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. RAIN, SUN, HILLS, TRAFFIC, NO TRAFFIC, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE SENSORS TRIGGER A FALSE POSITIVE THINKING THERE IS AN IMMINENT COLLISION EVEN IF DRIVING 35 MPH ON AN EMPTY ROAD. IT ALSO TRIGGERS WHEN FOLLOWING A CAR WITH WARNING TONES AND AUTOMATIC BRAKING. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS REBOOTING ITSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF A FALSE BUT SELF-INDUCED CRISIS. I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED COLLISIONS BECAUSE THE CAR TOOK OVER CONTROL WHEN NOT NEEDED, ONLY TO TURN OFF ALL SAFETY FEATURES AND WARN THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMED IT WAS A LOW BATTERY, BUT REPLACING WITH A NEW BATTERY DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEN TRIED TO CLAIM DRIVER ERROR AFTER DELETING TROUBLE CODES, WITH NO EXPLANATION HOW "DRIVER ERROR" CAN CAUSE THE SAME ERROR MESSAGES TO DISPLAY ON THE HUD AS ALL OF THE PLAINTIFFS OF A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT SAY THE SAME THING.

THE CAR BEHIND US JUST MISSED PLOWING INTO THE BACK OF US BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN BRAKING FOR NO REASONS. THE WEATHER WAS GOOD AND JUST A BIT CLOUDY, SO WEATHER HAD NO BEARING IN THIS, AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC OR OBSTACLES NEAR OR IN FRONT OF US TO CAUSE A FALSE COLLISION IMPRESSION ON THE SENSORS. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH IN A SUBURB AREA. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 2 OTHER TIMES WHEN I CROSSED THIS SAME PLATE ON THE ROAD BEFORE AVOIDING THIS AREA WITH THIS CAR. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS AS THERE WAS NO GOOD REASON TO STOP THE CAR.

I IMMEDIATELY TURN ALL THE ASSIST SYSTEMS OFF BUT THINGS STILL LITE UP AND WARNING. WHEN I AM SAFELY ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY TO STOP AND TURN CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON ALL THE WARNINGS GO AWAY AND APPEAR TO BE FINE. SENSORS ARE CLEAN AND CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. VERY SCARY! I KEEP THE CAR CLEAN AND THE SENSORS CLEAN AND UNOBSTRUCTED. LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND IT HAS HAD ISSUES OF NOT STARTING AND DASHBOARD FLASHING NUMEROUS TIMES. DEALERSHIP ACTUALLY TOURED IT IN ON ONE OCCASION WHEN IT WOULDN'T START. COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING AND HAD US PICK IT UP. NEXT MORNING WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE BATTERY. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SAFE, RELIABLE CAR AND NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANY DISTANCE WITH FEAR OF FAILURES.

TODAY, 7/17/19, I WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND ON MICHIGAN AVE IN SEATTLE, HEADING TO THE ON RAMP TO 509/99SOUTH/1ST AVE BRIDGE AREA. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, DRIVING AT A SLOW AND STEADY RATE (ABOUT 20MPH OR LESS) AS I WAS GOING OVER THE ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD. THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT MY PROMPTING BRAKED HARSHLY (AND THE SCREEN SAID BRAKE!) AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE METAL PLATES. IT WAS LIGHTLY DRIZZLING, BUT I HAD NOT BRAKED AS MY SPEED WAS ALREADY SLOW ENOUGH ON THAT ROAD. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THE CAR SENSED THAT THE PLATES WERE AN OBSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD AND AUTOMATICALLY BRAKED. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT THE CAR BEHIND ME STOPPED IN TIME, AS MYSELF AND THE OTHER PASSENGER WERE THRUST FORWARD (WITH SEATBELTS ON) DUE TO THE FORCE OF THE DECELERATION. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE AND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AT THAT POINT. THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR A SUDDEN STOPPAGE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT TERRIFYING WHEN UNPROMPTED. I WAS DRIVING MY HONDA CR-V ON A HIGHWAY USING THE HOV LANE. AT SOME POINT WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEEMED TO HAVE COLLAPSE AND THE CAR STARTED PULLING STRONG IN ONE DIRECTION TOWARDS THE CENTER DIVIDER LINE. WITH TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL THE PULL WAS SO STRONG THAT I WOULD BARELY CONTROL THE CAR AND KEEP IT FROM CRASHING INTO THE DIVIDER. BARELY MISSING THE DIVIDER I MANAGED TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER LUCKILY WITHOUT ANYONE COLLIDING INTO ME. IF I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE THIS COULD HAVE PROMPTED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I DIDN'T GO OVER ANY POTHOLE OR OBSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD. NO ONE HIT ME NOR DID I HIT ANYONE. NO AIRBAGS INFLATED NOR WARNING INDICATORS APPEAR ON THE CONSOLE. I CALLED THE POLICE AND ONCE ON THE SCENE THE POLICE SWEPT THE HIGHWAY TO DETERMINE IF THERE WERE ANY POTHOLES OR OBSTACLES THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE INCIDENT. THEY CONFIRMED THAT NON EXISTED AND THAT THE ROAD WAS DEEMED SAFE. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT PRODUCED AS THE POLICE DEEMED THE INCIDENT TO BE A NON ACCIDENT AND INSTEAD A BREAKDOWN SINCE THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR ALTERCATION. WHEN LOOKING AT THE CAR DAMAGE THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL, WHEEL WELL, RIM WHICH SPLIT UP VERTICALLY, ROTAR, SUSPENSION, WHEEL CALIPER, BRAKES (WHICH FELL OFF IN PIECES) AND BASICALLY EVERYTHING ATTACHED TO THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED AS IT WAS NOT OPERATIONAL AT THAT POINT. WHEN BROUGHT BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING REPORTED ON THE COMPUTER. THERE ONLY EXPLANATION WAS THAT THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER DID NOT WANT TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE OR FIND FAULT EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THIS INCIDENT SEEMED TO BE A MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION THAT OCCURRED THAT ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE AND COULD BE A POTENTIAL SAFELY CONCERN FOR OTHER HONDA CR-V DRIVERS IF NOT PROPERLY INVESTIGATED.

I HAVE ALSO BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WITH NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME, THE CAR WILL BEEP, FLASH BRAKE, AND THEN THE BRAKE SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SEAT BELTS LOCK UP FROM THE SUDDEN BRAKING. I WAS TOLD THERE IS AN UPDATE, AND THEY INSTALLED IT, SUPPOSEDLY, AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED. I AM STILL HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS, AND I AM NOW BEING TOLD THERE IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT IS COMING OUT NEXT MONTH. LET ME REITERATE THAT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY BRAKE WITH NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME. I ALSO HAD MY GEAR SHIFTER BUTTON POP OUT AND BRAKE WHILE SHIFTING TO DRIVE THE OTHER DAY. I HAD TO DRIVE TO HONDA, AND GET THAT REPLACED, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM.

VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AT A TIRE SHOP TO GET NEW TIRES PUT ON. UPON ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR AGAIN, A WARNING SHOWED UP ON THE SCREEN SAYING "ELECTRONIC BRAKE FAILURE". THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC BRAKES THAT AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TURN BACK OFF WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED, BUT ON THIS OCCASION THEY WERE UNABLE TO TURN BACK OFF. THIS STOPPED THE CAR FROM BEING ABLE TO START AT ALL, MULTIPLE INDICATORS ON THE DASH WERE THROWING ERRORS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS FLASHING, AND IT CONTINUED TO SHOW "ELECTRONIC BRAKE FAILURE". WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED THEY SAID THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO BUT TO TOW IT 2 HOURS AWAY TO LOOK AT IT, THEN THEY SUGGESTED DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES TO GET THE BRAKES TO RELEASE, WHICH WAS DONE AND DID RELEASE THE BRAKES AND CLEAR THE ERROR. BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS REMOVED, ANY CODES STORED WERE CLEARED SO WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT IN THE CAR SHOWED THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ENOUGH ISSUE NOW ON ALL NEW HONDAS WITH THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE FEATURE TO THE POINT THAT GOOGLING IT WILL COME UP WITH MULTIPLE FORUMS TALKING ABOUT IT.

THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM HAS APPLIED ITSELF 3 TIMES, WITH VERY HARD BRAKING TO THE POINT THAT THE SEATBELTS LOCKED UP, WHILE MERGING OR EXITING THE FREEWAY, GOING ANYWHERE FROM 25-45 MPH'ISH. ONE TIME I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND THE VEHICLE BEHIND HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING ME (BECAUSE THEY WERE ALSO TAILGATING), ANOTHER TIME WAS WHILE EXITING A BRIDGE, AND THE MOST RECENT WAS THIS MORNING WHILE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY IN FRONT OF A BIG RIG AND THE BRAKES RANDOMLY SLAMMED THEMSELVES ON FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. WHILE DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS IT HAS AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED THE BRAKES LIGHTLY AT LEAST TWICE, AND GIVEN COUNTLESS FALSE BRAKING WARNINGS WHEN DRIVING AROUND CITY STREETS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD!

I HAD JUST COME OFF THE HIGHWAY EXIT ON TO THE CITY STREET. I WAS INCREASING MY SPEED AND MOVING OVER TO THE LEFT. JUST AS I GOT INTO THE LEFT LANE THE CR-V SUDDENLY STARTED TO FLASH BREAK ON THE DASH IN FRONT OF ME AND I COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE BREAK HARD ON IT'S OWN. I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. THERE WAS NO PERSON/VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRAKE FOR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY TO THE HONDA GARAGE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. THERE WAS NO FAULT CODE IN THE SYSTEM NOR COULD THE TECHNICIAN DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPEN AT NIGHT WITHOUT MUCH TRAFFIC IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPEN GOING TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE SEEN OTHER CR-V OWNERS REPORT THE SAME THING HAPPEN ON FORUMS. I AM VERY WEARY NOW TO DRIVE TO WORK WITH THIS ISSUE. IT TOTALLY DID NOT MAKE SENSE THAT THE ADVISER RECOMMENDED TURNING OFF BRAKE SENSING FEATURE!? ON A SEPARATE ISSUE, FRONT ADAPTIVE SHUTTER MALFUNCTION WHILE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING LOSS OF POWER. SYSTEM RESET ITSELF AFTER PULLING OFF THE ROAD SHUTOFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE. DEALER SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS ISSUE AND FOUND NO FAULTY PROBLEMS.

IT SHUTS DOWN THESE SYSTEMS AND THE CAR DRIVES WITH A SLIGHT "DRAG" TO ITS MOVEMENT. THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE IS TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT, AND THEN RESTART. THE SYSTEM CHECKS ITSELF AND RESETS. THIS IS UNPREDICTABLE, CANNOT BE SPECIFICALLY INITIATED, AND THEREFORE IS DIFFICULT TO TAKE FOR REPAIR WHEN THERE IS NO INDICATION AT THE TIME OF THE VEHICLE BEING IN NEED OF REPAIR. THERE IS CLEARLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SOFTWARE, THE COMPUTER, OR AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2017.

ONCE HOME UNABLE TO PUT IN PARK. LUCKILY VEHICLE HAS BUTTON BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH ENABLED ME TO PUT BRAKES ON AND GET HUSBAND'S HELP. HE TEMPORARILY ENABLED VEHICLE INTO PARK AFTER WHICH VEHICLE ALTHOUGH IN PARK NEVER FULLY TURNED OFF. DUE TO CHRISTMAS COULD NOT GET TO DEALER TIL TODAY. BATTERY DEAD. CHARGED, TOOK TO DEALER REPLACED WITHOUT COMMENT. AFTER GOOGLING, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS COULD CAUSE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. MY OIL WAS CHANGED A FEW DAYS LATER STILL OVER THE FULL LINE AND FUMES OF GAS EVIDENT. TALKING WITH HONDA DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY WHERE PURCHASED AND HONDA CORPORATE CASE WAS FILED. SO FAR THEY ARE DOWN PLAYING IT IN TEXAS DISPITE NUMEROUS CONSUMER COMPLAINTS AND COMMONALITY OF ISSUE BEING REPORTED AT THE DEALERSHIP LEVEL.

THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, INCLUDING A SECOND TIME IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE DEALER "FIXED" THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS BEED STOPPED BUT IDLING IN BOTH SITUATION. I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME AND DID NOT EVEN LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP THE SECOND TIME. JULY 2017 ON A FOUR LANE HWY BY MYSELF, NO OTHER VEHICLE, BRAKE ALARMS LIT UP ON INSTUMENT CLUSTER AND CAR RAPIDLY DECLERATED FROM 50 TO 20 MPH BEFORE BRAKE ALARM AND BRAKES DISENGAGED. WHEN SLOWING FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AT APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 CAR LENGTHS FROM VEHICLE AND GOING APPROXIMATELY 10 - 5 MPH, CRV BRAKE ALARM LIT UP WITH SUBSEQUENT PANIC STOP BRAKING APPLIED. CRV'S ACC SYSTEM BRAKES THE VEHICLE WHEN APPROACHING ANOTHER PARKED OR DISABLED VEHICLE IN THE RIGHT EMERGENCY STOP LANE OR IS TURNING RIGHT AND IS PERHAPS 20-30 FEET DOWN THE RIGHT HAND ROAD. THIS OCCURS AW WELL WHEN ACC IS ENGAGED AND I AM IN THE LEFT LANE ON THE INTERSTATE AND OVERTAKING A VEHICLE TO MY RIGHT. THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY CAN FIND NO ERROR CODES NOR DO THEY HAVE ANY DATA OF THESE SYMPTOMS FROM HONDA AMERICA. BRAKING DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME. BUT WHEN IT DOES IT'S SURPRISING AND SCARY. IT SEEMS TO ME WITH ALL THE REPORTS I HAVE READ ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE CONCERNING THIS SAME PROBLEM, PERHAPS AMERICAN HONDA SHOULD TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.

WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND US. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.

I TRIED PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I THEN USED GREATLY INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT WITH NO DISCERNIBLE EFFECT. AFTER ABOUT EIGHT SECONDS OF CONTINUED EXTREME PEDAL PRESSURE, A YELLOW "BRAKING SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY A RED "BRAKE" WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE APPEARANCE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD, COMING FROM THE WHEELS, ACCOMPANIED BY A VIBRATION WHICH I INTERPRETED AS MODULATED BRAKING THAT COULD BE FELT THROUGH MECHANICAL FEEDBACK IN THE PEDAL. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP JUST IN TIME, BEHIND TRAFFIC THAT HAD BEEN WAITING AT A SIGNAL LIGHT. TEN SECONDS AFTER STANDING AT THE LIGHT, ALL WARNING LIGHTS EXTINGUISHED, AND THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY THEREAFTER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS, THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM, HAD RECENTLY ENCOUNTERED AN IDENTICAL CASE OF BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE, BUT THAT HIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD BEEN UNABLE TO FIND THE FAULT OR ENACT REPAIRS. HE DECLINED TO EXAMINE MY VEHICLE ON THAT BASIS. I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED IT OFF TO GO INTO A STORE. WHEN I CAME OUT I FOUND THAT MY CAR HAD ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO ANOTHER CAR. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO EITHER CAR, AS I ASSUME IT OCCURRED AT A VERY LOW SPEED. WHEN I RENETERED THE VEHICLE IT WAS STILL IN THE DRIVE GEAR, WHICH WAS MY ERROR. HOWEVER, I DON'T KNOW HOW THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY AND LOCKED WHILE NOT EVEN IN PARK OR EVEN NEUTRAL. MOREOVER THE CAR WAS IN THE DRIVE GEAR, WHICH I WOULD PRESUME WOULD MEAN IT WOULD GO FORWARD, BUT IT WAS STILL ABLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THIS IS INCREDIBLY CONCERNING. I CALLED HONDA AND WAS INFORMED THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS TO INFORM THEIR ENGINEERING TEAM FOR FUTURE MODELS. I HAVE HAD OTHER CARS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION UNLESS THE CAR WAS IN PARK. THE ANTI-COLLISION AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM INCORRECTLY ENGAGED WHEN APPROACHING A FLAT METAL PLATE IN THE PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING CENTER. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT APPROX. 5-10 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY STARTED BEEPING, AND FLASHING THE "BRAKE" WARNING ALERT ON THE DRIVER'S DASHBOARD CONSOLE. I WAS DRIVING AND, NOT SEEING ANY PEOPLE OR APPROACHING VEHICLES OR ANYTHING ELSE AHEAD OF ME, DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING WAS FLASHING A WARNING. BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO "GENTLY" BRAKE TO SEE WHAT THE SITUATION WAS, SUDDENLY THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM "VIOLENTLY" ENGAGED, BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO AN IMMEDIATE STOP JUST BEFORE THE METAL PLATE. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPH OF THE METAL PLATE THAT I TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE WHEN GOING BACK OVER THE PLATE IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, OR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I WANT TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT TO THE NHTSA. DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH TURNED UP SEVERAL OTHER PUBLIC REPORTS ON WEBSITES OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS. A FALSE POSITIVE FOR AN IMPENDING COLLISION WAS DETERMINED BY THE VEHICLE'S "SMART SYSTEM" ALGORITHMS, WHICH THEN TRIGGERED A PHYSICAL REACTION (AUTOMATIC INVOLUNTARY BRAKING). FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT ONLY 5-10 MPH, RATHER THAN 45 MPH ON A CITY ROAD OR 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY.

THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK BACK AND CHEST INJURIES AND THE OCCUPANT SEATED IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT SUSTAINED NECK, BACK AND FRONT TORSO INJURIES. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. JUST AS WE WERE APPROACHING THE 4000FT DESCENT TO THE VALLEY FLOOR, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP WITH MULTIPLE WARNINGS, THE FIRST BEING MAJOR BRAKE FAILURE. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE WHICH WAS FIRST SOFT, THEN IMMEDIATELY BECAME HARD TO PRESS DOWN TO STOP THE CAR. A SMALL TURNOFF ALLOWED ME TO GET THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY AND STOPPED. MULTIPLE WARNINGS CONTINUED ACROSS THE SCREEN. SHUT OFF THE CAR TO RESTART THE COMPUTER, THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. SAME MESSAGES. CHECKED EXTERIOR OF CAR, TIRES, OIL. ALL WELL. TOWED TO HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS TESTED FOR EBB AND ESB FAILURE, ECU FAILURE. ELECTRONIC BOOSTER WAS REPLACED AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM BLED. HONDA HAD THE CAR FOR 7 DAYS. YESTERDAY WE PICKED UP THE CR-V, HAVING BEEN TOLD THAT IT WAS REPAIRED AND READY TO GO. WE DROVE AWAY, BUT LESS THAN A MILE FROM THE DEALER/SERVICE LOCATION, THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED - INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP MULTIPLE WARNINGS WITH BRAKE THE MOST EMPHATIC. I WAS NOT BRAKING WHEN THE WARNING CAME, BUT IMMEDIATELY BRAKED TO GET OFF THE ROAD. AGAIN THE GRINDING SOUNDS AND DIFFICULTY PRESSING HARD ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR. CAR IS BACK AT THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED AND WE DO NOT TRUST ANY REPAIR AT THIS POINT. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES OVER THE LAST FIVE MONTHS. IT WAS FIRST NOTED AT AROUND 12,000 MILES AND HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 MORE TIMES (WE ARE NOW AT 20,000 MILES). IN SOME INSTANCES, THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING AT OVER 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND SLAMMED ON ITS BRAKES ON ITS OWN. THERE WERE NO OBJECTS IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND WE WERE FOLLOWING A STRAIGHT LANE. LUCKILY, REAR-ENDING ACCIDENTS THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED FROM THIS HAVE BEEN NARROWLY AVOIDED. THERE WAS AN INSTANCE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE BRAKED AND AN 18-WHEELER BEHIND IT HAD TO SLAM ON ITS BRAKES AND WAS SWERVING UNCONTROLLABLY FOR AT LEAST 300 FEET. A LEMON CLAIM HAS BEEN FILED, BUT HONDA IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE BECAUSE IT HAS YET TO HAPPEN WHILE THEIR TECHNICIANS DRIVE IT. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE PUT 20,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE FOR IT TO HAPPEN 5 TIMES (AN AVERAGE OF ONCE EVERY 4,000). I LOOKED IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR AND NOTED A SUV HEAVILY BRAKING TO AVOID IMPACT. I HIT THE ACCELERATOR HARD TO INCREASE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN IT AND ME, MAKING THE BRAKES DISENGAGE. SPECULATION: THIS MODEL FREQUENTLY LOCKS ONTO CARS LEAVING MY LANE AHEAD OF MY COURSE OF TRAVEL AND HEAVILY DEACCELERATES AS THEY SLOW TO EXIT SPEED. MANY CARS WERE JOCKEYING TO EXIT IN THE LANE TO MY RIGHT. MY SUSPICION IS THE ACTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS TRAKING SOME CAR IN THE RIGHT FILTER LANE AND APPLIED BRAKES TO MATCH THEIR EXIT SPEED, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN AROUND 20MPH.

FOR A SECOND TIME WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT NOT HAVING POWER TO GO PAST 2 RPMS AND PULLING AS IF IT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LINE. AFTER HAVING VEHICLE TOWED THE FIRST INSTANCEON10/17/2017 THEY CHECKED IT AND COULD FIND NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING GONE WRONG, THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD. THIS SECOND INCIDENT COMES 1 MONTH LATER AND NOW THE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS IN THE CORRECT POSITION THERE WERE TWO LETTERS ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER AND BLINKING. WE COULD ONLY DRIVE IT UP TO 30 MILES AN HOUR WITHOUT IT PULLING. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS BREAKING.11/21/2017

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE "BRAKE" SIGNAL DISPLAYED AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN SCREECHING AND COMPLETE STOP. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES OR ANY OTHER OBSTRUCTION IN FRONT OF ME AND THANK GOODNESS NO ONE BEHIND ME. I WAS IN MOTION AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 20 MPH. THE SUDDEN AND WITHOUT REASON STOP JOLTED ME FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING AND IT WAS VERY PAINFUL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND WAS TOLD TO DISABLE THE FEATURE BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAULT. THE DEFAULT FOR THIS FEATURE IS ENABLED UPON STARTING VEHICLE. SO I MUST DISABLE THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM EVERY TIME I START THE CAR.

THE COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM IS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT ALERTS THE DRIVER OF A POTENTIAL FRONTAL COLLISION WITH A VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN. WHEN A COLLISION IS DEEMED UNAVOIDABLE, THE SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES THE VEHICLE'S SPEED AND BRINGS THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE SYSTEM PROVIDES VISUAL AND AUDIBLE ALERTS. THE SYSTEM HAS ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY WHILE IN FORWARD MOTION ON CITY STREETS WITHOUT REASON CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BRAKE HARD AND TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN MOVING TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING REAR-END COLLISIONS.

BRAKES CAME ON HARD WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 73 MPH WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE IN LEFT LANE. NOTHING WAS AHEAD OF ME IN MY LANE. I WAS OVERTAKING A VEHICLE THAT WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. THE HIGHWAY WAS VERY STRAIGHT. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM.

THIS INCIDENT WAS 4 MONTHS AFTWR PURCHASE. I PARKED A FRIEND'S HOUSE, AND THE BATTERY DRAINED OVER THE COURSE OF 3 HOURS. I CAME OUT AND START THE CAR, AND IT WOULDNT START. THE CAR KEEP ON MAKING THIS CONTINUOUS BEEPING NOISE EVERY TIME I OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR. IT USUALLY ONLY DO THAT IF THE KEY ISN'T NEAR THE CAR, BUT THIS TIME THE KEYS ARE ON ME. THE TRUNK WILL NOT OPEN NO MATTER WHAT YOU PRESS. I HAD TO GET MY FRIEND TO JUMP THE CAR WITH CABLES. WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME, IT DIDN'T SHOW THE NORMAL SCREEN, BUT IT SHOWED SOME ANTI THEFT MESSAGE. ONCE I GOT HOME, IT TOLD ME TO HOLD DOWN FOR LONGER THAN TWO SECONDS TO HAVE THE SYSTEM RESTART. I DID THAT BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I LEFT IT OVER NIGHT AND IT WAS NORMAL AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. RIGHT NOW, AS I'M WRITING THIS COMPLAINT, THERE'S ANOTHER PROBLEM. AN HOUR AGO, I PARKED AT A RESTAURANT'S PARKING LOT. I CAME OUT 40 MINUTES LATER AND CANNOT START THR CAR. THE DISPLAY IN FRONT OF ME IS SHOWING "BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM. " I'M WAITING THE THE TOW PEOPLE TO TOW MY CAR RIGHT NOW. IN SIX MONTHS I HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 MAJOR PROBLEMS WHICH CAUSE QUITE AN INCONVENIENCE.

FAULTY HONDA SENSING WAS DRIVING AT APPROX 35MPH WHEN CRV SLAMMED ON IT'S ON BRAKES BY ITSELF FOR THE 2ND TIME THANK GOD NO ONE WAS BEHIND US, HIGH BEAMS COME ON WHEN CLOSE TO ON COMING TRAFFIC BLINDING ON COMING TRAFFIC, BLIND SPOT INDICATOR COMES ON WHEN NO ONE AROUND, BLIND SPOT INDICATOR DOESN'T COME ON, WHEN CARS IN BLIND SPOT,DIDN'T SEE CAR IN MY BLIND SPOT AND CUT CAR OFF BECAUSE BLIND SPOT INDICATOR WASN'T WORKING. BURNING WIRE SMELL INSIDE CAB. MOST OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SINCE APPROX JAN 2017 LESS THAN 1 MONTH OF OWNING CAR. I CAN'T LIST JUST 1 DAY ITS HAPPENED BECAUSE IT'S HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER AND OVER. CRV HAS BEEN IN SHOP 5-6 TIMES FOR THESE PROBLEMS WITH NO LUCK OF FIXING THEM.

DRIVING MY 2017 CRV EX HOME FROM WORK. STOPPED AT RED LIGHT, FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURNED GREEN, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND A MESSAGE CAME UP ON THE DASHBOARD SCREEN "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE". THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET AND TRIED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT IT WAS FROZEN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN 'PARK', AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I LEASED THE VEHICLE. THE SALES REP SUGGESTED I TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT. I DID THAT AND ALL SYSTEMS SEEMED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. I LATER TOOK MY CRV BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK BUT FOUND NO DEFINITIVE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN COULD ONLY SAY THE COMPUTER INDICATED SOMETHING HAD OCCURRED BUT COULD SAY WHAT, OR WHY, OR WHETHER IT MIGHT OCCUR AGAIN. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, AND EVERYTHING SEEMED OK, AND "HAVE A NICE DAY!" NOW I AM ANXIOUS WHEN I DRIVE WONDERING IF, OR WHEN, THE BRAKE SYSTEM MIGHT FAIL AGAIN. IS IT JUST MY CRV, OR HAS THIS ISSUE BEEN REPORTED BY ANYONE ELSE? THIS ISSUE, SHOULD IT OCCUR AGAIN WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS CRASH SITUATION.
