The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while making a turn, the vehicle independently stopped. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the "BRAKE" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle functioned as intended. The contact stated that the phantom braking failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving over a bridge, the vehicle independently stopped suddenly with warning lights illuminated, and the "BRAKE" message was displayed. The vehicle resumed normal driving operation. Most recently, while driving over a speed bump, the vehicle independently stopped suddenly and then operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

On several occasions my 2018 Honda CRV unexpectedly braked while I was driving. Instances happened on interstate driving and 2-lane road driving.
While driving on a residential street at about 30 mph, our car suddenly, on its own and without warning, braked sharply. There was no other vehicle near to initiate the sharp braking. Had there been a car behind us at the time, the braking was so sharp it hit might have rear ended our car. We have now taken the car to the dealer for their assessment of the issue and a solution.

I just filled a report but on October 3rd @ 3:34pm the same thing happened where while in cruise control the car just brakes and there was no reason for that to happen.
While the adaptive cruise control is on for no reason the car breaks giving risk of being hit from behind. While driving down the road the brake light just comes on to say brake brake and there is no one in front or on the side of us. This has happened multiple times and I have owned the car for 4 years.

I was going through an intersection on a city street at approximately 35 mph. There were no vehicles or obstacles in front of my car. My emergency braking feature engaged, bringing me to a sudden stop in the middle of the intersection. Had a car been behind me, I certainly would have been rear ended. I have not taken my car in yet. I regularly maintain my car and did not have any error/warning messages prior to or after the incident.
On 9/25/25, while exiting the freeway with no cars in front of mine for as far as I could see, the "BRAKE” indicator light flashed once and. the car came to a jolting stop. As soon as I pressed on the accelerator the car engaged and I was able to drive normally. A new light was on my dashboard with two white lines beneath the “ACC” and “LKAS” lights. A similar incident occurred to while driving the car on 12/15/24 and a NHTSA complaint was filed (#11632264). Honda followed up and the car was assessed by a technician who could not recreate the same response and determined that the radar was "misaligned". To the best of my knowledge the issue was addressed by Honda.
After vehicle was shut down for about 5 to 10 minutes while in a store, all lights on the dashboard came on with warnings that most all safety related systems had "problems" (Tire Monitoring System, Emissions System, Brake System, Brake Hold, Power steering , Variable Steering Assist Problem, Hill start assist, Adaptative Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure) Vehicle would otherwise run fine and could be driven home. Emergency brake still seems to operate. This has happened twice in the last six months and renders the vehicle less safe to operate without these systems fully functional.

This all started when I purchased a 2018 Honda CRV from Motorworld in the late months of 2021 used. When this issue started happening, Motorworld ignored me when I was asking questions. Then, when I brought it in for service, they used tactics like "if we don't find anything, we will have to charge you a service fee" or call me the next day and say "before we hook it up, it may be your easy pass". They took the car in after I had complained about going down [XXX] , and with nothing in front of my car, it slammed on the brakes going from 40-0mph. When they got done, I went to pick up the car, and they told me it was the aftermarket windshield, but it was the one I bought with the car. I called Honda, they made Motor World take it in, and then called me and told me that they have the information and would share it with the appropriate parties. It has continued to happen, and I could get killed if it happens to me. I called to give Honda a more detailed recent incident, and the lady was like They closed this case. I have been waiting for a solution, and Honda just closed the case. I have been worried about the family's safety for 4 years. When it happened the brake warning comes on and the car just stopped. Please dont let them hide this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Hi I have been trying to take care of fuel pump related recall for a while and went to Millers Honda NYS REG R- 4040274 3 times and every time I realize there is problems with vehicles safety features and acceleration and it won’t pass inspection. Few times it felt like as if vehicle would stop in the middle of the road because i couldn’t accelerate. Recently I was charged almost 1500 dollars for a problem they should have fixed in 2023. In 2023 I attempted to make a complaint with the DMV and they temporarily fixed the problem and it would come back time to time. Please help and investigate.

I was driving on the highway, 65 mph using cruise control, in the right lane. There was one car in my relative vicinity, already halfway through it's exit off the freeway, with my car still about 6 or 7 car lengths away. The automatic braking system suddenly engaged hard. I quickly disengaged cruise control, which mitigated the problem. In the moment of unexpected braking, I was thankful there was no one around me, because my hard, sharp braking could have caused me a rear end accident and someone else, a front end accident. No one has confirmed my experience. The car is currently being inspected by my local mechanic. There were no warning messages or lamps prior to the 'short stop'. UNKNOWN if warning message came on in the midst of the short stop.
To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious and recurring safety defect in my 2018 Honda CR-V EX, VIN# [XXX] . I have experienced at least four incidents within the last two months involving both sudden, unintended braking and intermittent steering lock-ups. These are not isolated events and pose a significant risk to the safety of myself and other motorists. The sudden braking issue, often referred to as "phantom braking," occurs when the vehicle's Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) activates without any obstacle or danger present. The car abruptly comes to a full stop, without warning, on a clear road. This is extremely dangerous and has nearly caused multiple rear-end collisions. In addition to the braking problem, the steering has also become intermittently stuck. This happens without warning and makes it difficult to turn the wheel, which could lead to a loss of control, especially at higher speeds or on curves. I have already reported these issues to two authorized Honda dealerships: Curry Honda in Atlanta, Georgia Honda AutoNation in Columbus, Georgia On each occasion, the dealerships have been unable to replicate the problem and have told me they cannot find anything wrong. Despite their inability to diagnose the issue, the problems are very real and continue to happen. These defects are not just an inconvenience; they are serious safety hazards that could lead to a crash. I am concerned that if this problem is happening to my vehicle, it may be affecting other 2018 Honda CR-V owners as well. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter thoroughly to prevent potential accidents and injuries. Please contact me if you require any additional information. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driving along a city road, and the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) engaged. The brakes were slammed on, out of nowhere for no good reason. The closest car in front was several car lengths away, but there was a car closely following behind. That car (and the car behind it) had to brake hard to avoid collision. No injuries occurred in our vehicle. We were, however, pretty fucking scared and pissed.
High pressure fuel pump failed , could smell gas in air vents. Honda claims it’s separate from its other recall for a fuel pump. Car had been working fine, sudden issue, all lights came on , car started to stutter on acceleration. Had to be towed. No issues prior.
Was driving on a main road in the afternoon. There was a car ahead of us, but not directly ahead, and did not have its break lights go on. My car suddenly flashed the "break now" sign and put on the breaks without warning. Fortunately, there was no one behind us, and I was able to continue without incident. This has never happened before, but it really shook me, as it could have been a very dangerous situation. Had there been another car right behind us, we would have been rear ended. It makes me nervous to drive my car, as I don't know if this could happen again.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, DTC: P0172 and P0300 were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while the codes were illuminated, the ADAS system became inoperable. The contact stated that the Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance, and other systems that were inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle recently was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the error codes illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where the recall repair was performed, and a diagnostic test was performed. However, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and the ignition coils, 12-Volt battery, and the sparks plugs were replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,500.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the Collision Mitigation Braking System engaged, and the vehicle stopped abruptly while there was no other vehicle around. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown repair was performed. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was attempting to start the vehicle, the message "Brake Failure" was displayed, and the vehicle failed to start. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. The VIN was not available.

all warning signs come on at the same time on the dashboard. Car repair service explained that this is a known problem with CRV and suggested that I take it to he dealer. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery and this worked in discontinuing the warning signs but this was a temporary fix since same problem reappeared within weeks. This has reoccurred several times since 2024. Appointment has been made with dealer since the danger is whether warning sign is legitimate or just an electrical problem. This happens when car is first started and prior to initial drive. Does not prevent use of the car.
This vehicle was purchased new and I am the sole owner. Immediately upon purchasing the vehicle, I experienced what has been described as 'sticky' steering. I believed at the time it was related to the adaptive cruise control, the lane keeping assistance system, or the road departure mitigation system. However, the sticky steering continued and was always present. In 2024 I took my vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer, Planet Honda in Lakewood, Colorado. They could not recreate the problem, but now I realize that this is because they did not get the vehicle and its parts warm enough to cause the problem to reveal itself. Upon becoming aware of two recalls of Honda CR-Vs with similar issues (NHTSA Campaign numbers 24V744000 and 18V663000), I took my vehicle back to Planet Honda last week and more fully described the problem. I was shocked to hear from the service advisor that he was not even aware of these recalls. However, I explained that EVERY SYMPTOM I was experiencing was and always had been exactly as described in the 2024 recall. I requested that they get the vehicle warm and then they would experience the problem. They did in fact confirm the problem, but stated that because the vehicle was not included in the recall they would charge me over $5,000 for repairs, despite the fact that it had been present since the inception of my ownership, and had been reported to them earlier. I do not dispute that my vehicle was not included in the recall, but would submit that given the situation, it SHOULD HAVE BEEN included, and even if not, the evidence is clear (and not disputed) that the problem is and always has been related to this manufacturing. design or assembly defect. I also recognize that my vehicle has over 136,000 miles. However, Honda readily advertise that its vehicle should last hundreds of thousands of miles, and I agree, IF a manufacturers' defect is repaired under warranty or SHOULD BE, as the subject of a recall. Please assist
This is to report an activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System on my Honda 2018 CRV despite there being no collision danger. While driving approximately 30 mph on a 2 lane suburban residential street, my car suddenly slowed when the CMBS system engaged despite my car being at an ample following distance from the car ahead. There were no pedestrians or any obstructions in the road. I believe my safety was at risk because there was no reason for my car to reduce speed and luckily the car behind me did not hit me. My car slowed considerably but did not stop. I have not had the car inspected or serviced with regard to this problem. There were no other warning lamps or messages prior to the system engaging.
Phantom braking problem. On a sunny day, I was driving 25:mph on a street that was being repaired. A steel plate was covering a hole. The system activated emergency braking, slamming on the brakes and flashing "brake" and beeping.
Similar to the open investigation on these CRVs, we have had at least 3 occurrences of the vehicle activating automatic emergency breaking with nothing obstructing the vehicles path. There were, however, metal plates in the roadway to cover utility trenches. These are designed for vehicles to drive over them all day, every day, so the vehicle should not emergency stop. Although there were luckily no rear end collisions as a result of this, it was certainly possible given how abrupt the stop was.

Car was not able to shift into lower gears. Car would not accelerate when put in drive and drive did not illuminate on the dash. Gearshift was slipping between neutral and drive. mechanic got code of U3003–16. And U 04168. On a separate couple of occasions, the emergency brake system was activated when nothing was in the road
Vehicle emergency braked with nothing in the path while driving 80mph on the highway. Car behind me had to swerve into the shoulder to avoid rear ending my vehicle.
Driving west on [xxx]. approaching [XXX] , at approximately [XXX] on [XXX], the collision mitigation braking system slammed on the car brakes without warning. There were zero objects in front of us and fortunately no one behind us. If we had been on the freeway, or if another vehicle had been following us, the incident could have resulted in accident and/or injury. Our safety continues to be at-risk. This occurred randomly and therefore could happen again at any time in any circumstance, and apparently has for other drivers of this make, model and year vehicle. The vehicle is scheduled for inspection 4/16/25 at 9:00 a.m. at Stockton Honda in Sandy, Utah. That said, after researching this issue, we found that NHTSA has had an on-going investigation into this issue since February of 2022. Vehicle is currently in the shop due to safety sensors and cameras. The car has less than 70k miles and is excellent condition. But when I started my car all the sensors did not work.

As I was driving about 20 mph on a two lane road through a neighborhood, I went through an area with cones on either side of the road where the road narrowed some because of construction. There were large metal or steel plates covering the road for about 4 feet or so over the asphalt, but nothing that impeded driving forward. As I approached that area, my car’s BRAKE message flashed a few times and beeped before my car abruptly slammed to a stop in the middle of the road, shortly before the metal plates. This happened so quickly that I was unable to react when I first saw the flashing “brake” message and heard the beeping. No one was behind me so I didn’t get hit, but I would have if someone had been following

Vehicle has suddenly severely braked twice for no reason. Rear end collisions are a big risk factor. No warnings, both incidents occurred in dry, clear road conditions. It has not been inspected. Now when starting the car, I always turn the system off.
This morning, March 5, 2025, while driving to work, my 2018 CR-V abruptly stopped in the middle of an intersection with no need and little warning. Thank God nobody was behind me at the time. Everything not bolted or belted down came forward immediately. After the incident I pulled into a convenience store to regroup, calm down and turn off my automatic braking system which I no longer trust. I have a short, 15 second video (mp4) from my dash cam but was unable to attach it for this report.
The car randomly reports multiple malfunctioning of ALL safety components: Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, Vehicle Stability assist After various time period, the warnings go away and then they restart at a later point. Mechanic reported a computer readout of P0301 which is a cylinder misfire detect. A misfire should not cause safety feature on the CR-V to sttop working.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated independently, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the roadway. During each failure, there were no other vehicles or structures nearby to cause the system to be activated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the contact that the computer module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
On several occasions, the auto braking system has engaged when not required. When driving / approaching and overhead highway sign, the alert will trigger, warning me to press my brakes. Other past events include occasionally when passing beneath an overpass, the braking system will alert and engage the brakes. This has nearly caused a rearend accident. Braking alerts also occur for some forks in the road, seemingly alerting for the barrier that is in place.
Driving on a regular paved road following the speed limit (35 miles per hour) when the automatic emergency braking system engaged randomly; the car speed went from 35 miles to a near and sudden stop and almost caused a rear-end collision. Phantom braking. This is the second time this has happened with no visible reason in terms of road conditions or flying birds, blowing trash, etc. that could explain this. I am afraid to drive the car out of fear that Phantom Braking will cause an accident/potential injuries. I cannot imagine this happening on a freeway at higher speed—distater. I was driving on a viaduct (on the top level with car traffic below and on the first occasion, with a river running below). Could it be that the safety features such as camera sensors are misfiring and putting people in real danger. It makes no sense for safety features such as are making driving more dangerous than without them. I am going to have to spend $250 for Honda mechanic to diagnose and who knows how much to repair it, but it is clearly an engineering/mechanical problem created by Honda. This vehicle also fewer than 40K miles on it despite being a 2018 model. Please, please require Honda to issue a recall before something tragic happens.
Issues started in 2018 when it was bought. Before the first oil change dipstick oil level keep going 1 inch over the max level. Exhaust smells gas. Dealership said it’s nothing. Keeps happening over and over. Dealership made a recall fix but fix didn’t help. One day while on a trip, suddenly all lights warning display come on the dash, engine lost power, had to make emergency roadside stop. After a while of sputtering, car run ok until I got into a gas station and bought chevron Techron. Engine running good enough to travel. Warning lights still going off all the time. Went to dealership, they said it was bad fuel and told me to use premium. The warning light came off. Fuel level still go 1 over dipstick max line and exhaust smell gas. Dealership it’s not a fuel dilution issue. warning light ssues linger on and off and too much oil in the dipstick and gas smelling issues never got. resolved. Last year I was told I need the fuel injectors changed but was told self pay as not covered by warranty. I argued that it should be covered as issues started on my first oil change. Dealership said they’ll order new injectors but it’s not changed up to now. Yesterday car lost power again, all dash warning light are on . I wrote Honda USA a year ago but didn’t get a reply.

I am reporting a dangerous malfunction of the CMBS system, and I don't know if the fuel pump recall, which my Honda dealer will repair on 2/3/25, has any affect on the CMBS, causing the car to brake without cause/randomly, when no vehicle or anything else is near. Last year I was almost hit from behind on the Harlem River Drive when it happened, and last week on the Palisades Parkway, an equally dangerous situation, and the car behind had to swerve into the left lane to avoid hitting me. It has happened a few times when I am on local less populated roads. Honda owner websites have several reports of the same thing I experienced, but Honda reports that it can't find the problem and therefore can't fix it. I have tried to document in what conditions it happens, e.g., broad daylight, night time, accelerating, maintaining same speed, or what other activity is happening on dashboard console, but can't detect a pattern, seems random. I use this car for only myself now, and not my family, for fear we could all be wiped out, even though it was purchased to be a family vehicle. What recourse do owners have?

On several occasions my automatic emergency braking has engaged when there is no car in front of me. Typically this happens when another car is in the left turn lane and my car is passing it. The other vehicle is completely in the other lane and I am in my lane. There is no visible obstruction to my vehicle's path. This posses a significant damage of me being rear ended by any car following too closely to my car. This has happened on numerous occasions.
The automatic braking on our 2018 Honda CRV EX-L has gone off erroneously several times. Recently was on an onramp on the highway going over 50mph, automatic braking went off for no reason, almost causing an accident in heavy traffic.
I was driving on a local road at night with no vehicles in front of me. Suddenly, The Forward Collision Warning light came on and the Automatic Emergency Brake was triggered. I had to let go off the gas temporarily, and the vehicle was operable again. on several occasions the Forward Collision Warning light would come on for a second then disappear with nothing in front of me. These seem to have occurred mostly at night time.

On 01/08/2025, Time: 8:10 PM EST – Automatic Emergency Breaks applied though there are no objects, people or vehicles in front of the vehicle. My wife, [XXX] kid and I were heading back to home from COSTCO, Mathews NC. Suddenly, the Automatic Emergency Break applied without any warnings on the dashboard. Because of the sudden break, my wife got injured, she hit her knee to the back air vent. I must take a long breath for a min and move the car to the parking lot and check back with my kid and wife. There was a little distance from my car to the other car behind me. So, luckily, we avoided the collision. Otherwise, there would be a major collision. This is the third time we were run to this issue at the same spot. I am keep observing the warning messages earlier while driving on the highway and but stopping all the sudden without any warnings make us very scary. I was still doubting the security measures and investigation process being held at the HONDA. The dealership replaced the fuel pump & now numerous dash lights are on. When the fuel pump gets replaced does the recall cover the fuel filter?
While driving on the San Francisco Bay Bridge in at about 20 miles an hour with a distance of 2.5 to 3 cars between my CRV and the car in front of me the "BRAKE" indicator light flashed once and the car came to a jolting stop. I was very startled and cars behind me also came to a sudden stop. Following a few seconds, the car was able to accelerate normally again. The "BRAKE" indicator light has flashed many times since I bought the car in January of 2019, but the car never stopped. I brought the car to Honda of Oakland. Where I was told that they'd never heard of this happening. A a brake inspection was completed, but they were unable to replicate the incident. I was told that the sensors were cleaned of debris in case that's what caused the incident.

While traveling irregular route, the emergency brake prompt displayed on the dashboard. There were no vehicles in front of me within a quarter mile distance and the break began to automatically depress while accelerating. I immediately took my foot off of the gas pedal and tapped the brake. The emergency braking system disengaged and I was able to continue normally. Prior to this incident there had been numerous instances where the dashboard displayed the emergency brake icon, but did not automatically depress the brake. I have not noticed any consistency in the circumstances that causes this to initiate. I have also checked to make sure there any cameras or radar hardware unobstructed.
I was traveling along a four lane, about 45 MPH and the collision braking system engaged for no reason. There was no car or obstacle in front of me, and thankfully, no vehicles following closely behind me. The system disengaged within a few seconds and then I was able to accelerate forward. This has happened twice. It is frightening to think may have occurred if there were cars ahead or behind me. The first time it happened when the car had about 15,000 on it. The second time was this summer, and the car had about 52,000. I am very concerned about this issue, and I am very worried that the braking will engage and there will be a resulting accident.
I have been having issues with my car abruptly stopping by itself. One example is when I was driving down the road with no one behind me and the car went from 40MPH to 0. The car behind me almost hit me. But MotorWorld's excuse to this was maybe this was because of the sun!!!!! I had called MotorWorld when this first started happening and they claimed they never heard of this happening before after bringing the car in to be looked at they kept asking if i was sure I wanted it to be looked at because with will cost me money if no codes show. I had it looked at and they told me it was my EZ-pass then it was my aftermarket window that I bought the car with (even though they found codes while troubleshooting). I eventually asked them to disable it, which they told me they couldn't. I found online that there is a button to disable it every time I get in the car. I had called Honda directly to file a complaint which the person told me to take it to get a second opinion. I told him I took it to a certified Honda dealer why would I have to take it anywhere else. I am still driving this unsafe car that stops by itself. I would have filed this a long time ago, but I was not aware of this reporting system. Thats why I reported it to honda who did nothing for me, but mislead me for months before I just gave up on them
All warning lights appearing on the dashboard unexpectedly which then prevents the cruise control and other features from working. This issue comes and goes and makes it unsafe to drive. A new battery was installed but that did not solve the issue and no one has a solution. There are many websites stating this exact same problem. Different years and both CR-V and Pilots.
There are actually two issues that are going on with this car. First off, on three separate occasions, while driving at 70 mph on the freeway in traffic, my car has braked for me and the collision warning went off. However, there was nobody in front of me. The person behind me almost rear ended my vehicle on the last occasion this has happened. Now, my car is undrivable. Three times, ALL my sensor lights went off. The first time, we changed the battery, thinking the battery was dying. The second time, we took it to Affordable Autobody in Murrieta, CA. They ran a diagnostic and stated that we did not reset the computer when the battery was changed. The third time ALL the sensor lights went on, we took it to DCH Temecula, CA. They ran a diagnostic and said that it was the fuel injectors. Our mechanic stated that the fuel injectors are going bad due to a bad fuel pump. My car has been sitting at the dealership for more than a week, undrivable. We contacted claims department, but no action has been taken. DCH Temecula states they have no available fuel pumps and will not fix the injectors unless the claims department orders it. I have left without a loaner car, stranded. Nobody seems to be taking this seriously and there is no time frame as to when this situation will be fixed. It is becoming a huge inconvenience not having a way to get to work. Please help!
Multipurpose windshield camera failed which disable many of the driver assistance safety systems. Dashboard display showed constant multiple system failures that could not be turned off by driver. Replacing the multipurpose windshield camera and recalibrating the camera cleared all the system failures. Cost for repairs was $1,737 which seems extreme for a camera.

Phantom braking episode with no reason, no collision but driver was pretty shaken up travelling at 80km to 0km. Second time this has happened on this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance system erroneously activated, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the roadway. During the failure, there were no other vehicles or structures nearby to cause the system to become activated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

I was driving through an intersection and my car said "BRAKE" and started flashing on my dash. I was accelerating, but my car slammed on the brakes without me hitting my brake petal. The car behind me almost hit me. I called Honda Dealership. They stated my Sensor was probably dirty. I checked. It is not dirty. I called Honda Corporate. They told me I would have to take it in to a Honda Dealership, get it diagnosed (I would have to pay for this), then it would be submitted to them. I asked if they would reimburse me for this diagnosis, they said only if it resulted in a recall. I am pregnant. I do not feel safe when my car randomly slams on the brakes while I am driving almost causing an accident!
Electric parking brake failure rendered the car undrivable. The problem was addressed by dealer in 2/24 but returned in 8/24. The parking brake switch was replaced at that time but problem returned 3 weeks later. Error codes indicated left side parking brake deployed unexpectedly. Unable to release parking brakes. After replacement of parking brake switch all error messages disappeared and parking brakes worked properly. After 3 weeks parking brakes non functional and error massages indicated brakes and multiple systems not working. Due to repeated parking brake issues traded in car at a loss as reliable transportation was needed.

While driving all the warning lights for every vehicle system came on. I was just pulling onto a highway when this occured and was not sure to pull to the side for fear vehicle was going to have a problem, especially when the alerts for break system failure came on.

Forward Collision Warning breaking even though nobody is in front of me.
Forward Collision Warning breaking even though nobody is in front of me.
The vehicle has presented this issue twice now: The first: I was driving through a rural area at around 25 mph. As I approached a set of train tracks, I slowed down, knowing that the entrance to the train tracks was pretty rough. As I started across the train tracks, the car suddenly and rapidly applied the brakes. At this point, the audible and visual braking alerts were activated. I tried to use the accelerator to override the random braking and get off of the train tracks, but the car just revved without moving. At this point, I realized that the car had somehow shifted into neutral. Once I shifted it back into Drive, the car resumed normal operation. There were vehicles behind me that had to stop rapidly in order to avoid rear-ending me, and the situation left me temporarily stranded in the middle of the train tracks. The second: I was driving at around 35 mph with the cruise control set. A car from the right lane pulled in front of me, and while it was a quick lane shift, they had plenty of room. Shortly after they switched lanes (but not immediately) the car abruptly applied the brakes, slowing aggressively enough that I was thrown forward in my seat. There were no visual or audible warning signals like are normally used with the automatic braking system. I applied the accelerator, and the car resumed normal operation.

I was driving at approx 40mph with no cars or other objects in front of me. The automatic brake mitigation system suddenly engaged with flashing brake signal, beeps, and sudden hard brake. If a car had been behind me, it would have been a fender bender. This has never happened before. I have now turned that feature off. I have not reported this to the dealer.
I was traveling on a 4-lane highway over 60 mph when the AEB activated COMPLETELY when no obstruction was anywhere near my car. The weather was dry and sunny. The brakes were completely locked and fully engaged. Fortunately, I had enough momentum to drift onto the shoulder to avoid the traffic behind me. No one was hurt. No accident occurred. I called two separate Honda service departments. One had never heard of this; the other recommended having the system recalibrated. Both admitted that replication of the incident would be difficult or impossible. I have not taken by car for service. The only visual warning that I remember seeing was related to the Adaptive Cruise Control but there was NO visual brake warning. I am buying another car and it WILL NOT be a Honda. Get this car off the road! The AEB system is a flawed design. The radar device on the front bumper can easily be activated by a stone from the road or broken when bumped by another car in a parking lot. At a minimum Honda Service should be calibrating the system every time these cars are brought in. OR make the system OFF by default, not ON.
I was driving 50-55 mph on a two lane road. The car in front of me was 3 car lengths ahead and the car on my right side was approaching from behind. As I drove under an overpass my car jerked forward almost coming to a complete stop. I jerked forward and then back into my seat back. I had my ID badge on my front seat and it flew to the floor. As the car was jerking to almost stop the brake light on the dashboard flashed off and on a few times. I was lucky I was not hit from behind with how quickly the car stopped me but did not come to a complete stop, just slammed the brakes on quickly.
I was driving my mother's 2018 Honda CR-V at a steady rate of about 30 mph when there was a warning chirp and the car suddenly braked hard and came to a complete stop. At that time, I was at least 30 feet behind the car in front and both my car and the one in front were traveling at the same speed. I can only assume that the collision avoidance system kicked in unexpectedly. After stopping, I restarted the car and proceeded normally, with no warning lights showing.

While driving on a public roadway at about 20 mph I approached a large steel plate covering a trench, the brakes applied with maximum force and the dashboard BRAKE light came on. Luckily there were no vehicles close behind us. We could easily been hit from behind because of the severity of the stop. We had a similar incident on 05/042021 that we filed a complaint with the NHTSA #11416110. I spoke with Matt (service Rep) from Honda City and was told it was not covered by the warranty.
I was Driving down a small hill. The car alerted for a car near my vicinity. There was no car in front or adjacent to mine. However, the car suddenly came to a complete stop, without me engaging the brakes. It almost resulted in a serious collision with the car behind me.
Without any warning, vehicle will brake with no traffic in sight, or whenever it decides the car needs braking. I'm afraid I am going to be rear ended at some point. This has happened several times since purchasing the vehicle.
The car aggressively braked without warning. The braking sensor activated even though there was no vehicle in front of me.
On [XXX], I parked on a slight incline at an open market. There was nothing wrong with the steering when I parked the car. It was dry and sunny. When I returned to the car an hour later, the power steering was out and all sensor lights were flashing: Hill Assist, lane assist, cruise control, brakes, tire pressure, emergency brake, and others I can't recall at this point. Someone was getting into their car next to mine and helped maneuver the car out of the spot so it could be towed. I am told by the dealer, the power steering rack needs to be replaced -- $4000. My car has 56K miles on it, has never been in an accident and has always and only been serviced by AutoNation Honda in Clearwater. There appears to be a recall on this part but when I enter my VIN, it indicates the recall doesn't apply to my car even though it's a recall on 2018 CRVs. The dealer indicates the part is backordered indefinitely and cannot provide timeline. I am waiting for Honda Good Will program to evaluate whether they will help with rental car and expense of repair. Meantime, I have no car and cannot conduct business or even evacuate if a hurricane comes through. It's been 2 weeks now with no help from the dealer. Left parking lot and started driving down the street. The "Brake" light flashed and peep sounded and the car stopped abruptly--a complete stop. There was no one in front of me; there was no reason for the "Brake" light to come on. Thank God no one was behind me as I would have been rear-ended. The car stopped so abruptly that no one would have been able to stop. After I calmed down, I was able to continue on with no further issues. Contacted the dealer Service Department immediately and was told no recall and that the radar had just picked up on something. This made no sense as I was the only one on the street at the time--no one coming toward me and no one behind me. Over the years of owning the car, there have been incidents where the "Brake" light flashed for no obvious reason. However, the car never stopped. I feel fortunate because this could have caused a serious accident. I am very concerned to be behind the wheel of such a vehicle. A recall is definitely warranted and SOON!
I was driving when I came upon a couple of metal plates on the road. I slowed a bit to go slower across them when my car slammed on the brakes, the brake orange light came on and beeped on the dash. There was a truck behind me that was luckily leaving enough space. I was jolted and everything fell off my passenger seat due to the aggressive sudden braking. If it had happened on a highway or the truck had been closer it would've been horrible.
While driving without any surrounding traffic I have experienced three instances where the collision warning system will be triggered and initiate emergency braking. At this time, I have not had any collisions. However, I have ensured after each incident that my collision settings were set to the lowest sensitivity to prevent such an occurrence. However, that has not been the case and I have not been able to receive any assistance from the dealership in relation to this matter.

I purchased a Honda CRV in 2018, and from the first day of driving it home, my dashboard displayed numerous warning signs. I immediately returned to the dealer, where they diagnosed and claimed to fix the issue. The vehicle ran fine for a couple of months, but the same problem reoccurred at least twice within the next six months. Each time, I scheduled an appointment with the dealership, and they assured me that all issues were resolved. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unable to use my vehicle for two years. Over the past 12 months, the same issue has resurfaced. When I approached the dealer, they refused to repair it, citing that the vehicle is now out of warranty. This issue has persisted since day one and was never truly resolved, occurring intermittently. I have opened multiple cases with Honda America and worked with them for nearly six months. Despite this, I have not received any clear communication or resolution. They claim to have discussed the issue with the dealership and local Honda representatives, but always return with the same response: the case is denied. The Honda America agent insists there is nothing wrong despite the warning signs. The major concern is that when these warnings appear, I am unable to use advanced features like cruise control and lane change assistance. My teenage daughter, who also drives this vehicle, becomes panicked and frightened whenever these warnings appear. I urgently need help from your team to resolve this issue, as both the Honda dealers and local representatives have been unresponsive to my claims. Thank you for your assistance. As I was driving back from the aquarium with my family going home, the Automatic Emergency Braking System activated and the car suddenly came to a total stop abruptly - this is the third time the car does that since I have it (2020) there was nothing on the way that could have justified the car to stop in such a violent manner. Thankfully there was nobody behind me and we did not get hurt, but we were scared and my little daughter was crying thinking we did crash, of course now I don't feel safe driving my car because if this happens again in traffic someone will hit me in the back for sure.
Multi purpose camera failure that impacts the safety features in my vehicle. Many people have reported this, however Honda still hasn’t created a recall on it. Dealership wants $1900 to replace, but this is a safety feature how is this not on Honda to handle?

Vehicle applied brakes for no apparent reason. Took it to dealer who said they made a repair, however the same issue has occurred since. Must disable AEB each time I get in car for fear it will try to brake in heavy traffic and I will get rear ended.
I was driving on the way home from work and without cause my car braked suddenly propelling me forward and my items to the floor. I blew my horn to alert the car behind me and thankfully no one rear-ended me or any other vehicle. It stayed on brake for approximately 20 seconds before it released the brake for me to move out of the road.
Vehicle suddenly starts showing all warnings lights on dashboard, including: - Adaptive Cruise control - Collision Mitigation - Road Departure Mitigation - Vehicle Stability Assist - Hill Start Assist - Electric Parking Brake - Tire Pressure Monitoring and many more.
While driving on a 4 lane road on a sunny day, the vehicle detected an imminent collision ahead on a clear-road. The CRV did a hard-brake bringing the speed from around 40 MPH to 20 MPH. If a car had been directly behind us, the chance of a collision would have been high because it was very unexpected place to brake. This component has not been investigated by Honda yet - I'm reporting it first here. I have dash-cam footage I can provide but do not see a place to upload that on this form.
I was driving on the highway at a speed of 65-70 MPH. The car's adaptive cruise control was set and keeping pace. Suddenly, every light on the dash turned on with the adaptive cruise control and lane assist turning off. Luckily my hands were on the wheel and the car didn't leave the lane. Eventually, this was diagnosed and attributed to faulty fuel injectors. This seems to be a common problem with the 2017 model Honda CRVs and luckily for me, ended safely. But if this was my wife or kid driving, it could have ended poorly. I still ask why is the fuel injector issue, which makes the car engine run more rich, connected to the cruise control / lane assist software that can result in a safety problem.

Was driving and car started braking and dash was flashing "brake". The car in front of me was much further ahead and there was nothing else in the way. There was no reason for the car to use emergency braking. The car behind me was able to stop, so I did not get hit. I contacted dealer and they said it is not a known issue.
Driving down the road and all the sudden the CR-V warned brakes and automatically stopped the car while I was driving. Nothing in the road at all. This has now happened numerous times brought to Honda and they said nothing is wrong cause it didn’t do it when they drove it. This also has happened going down the interstate going 70 mph but luckily no accident.
In August of 2023 I was trying to accelerate after getting off a clover ramp and I was going about 10-15mph when my car suddenly felt like it slammed on the brakes and came to a stop. There were no warning lights on the dash and no vehicles or obstacles around for it to brake on its own. I had to reapply my foot to the gas again and again for my vehicle to move.
2018 Honda CR-V has had the automatic emergency braking system engaged about 6x so far while driving on the highway when no other vehicle was in sight. I would be driving and then the auto brake system would kick in and slow the truck down or just completely stop.
All of the warning lights came up on my dash and stayed on for almost 24 hours on this most recent occasion of this problem indicating that there was all of the following: emissions systems problem, brake system problem, power steering system problem, VSA problem, hill start assist problem, adaptive cruise control, problem, road departure mitigation, and hill start assist problem. This was approximately the 5th time that this has happened. The problem occurred when I turned the car back on and started to drive after it had been turned off for 10 minutes. This problem seems to be triggered by 2 different events: either idling (like in a drive thru line for a long time) the car, or, after starting the car after it has been turned off of a short period of time. The previous incidence of this problem was on January 7, 2024.
SUDDEN PHANTOM BRAKING WITHOUT WARNING IN MY 2018 HONDA CRV. I WAS DRIVING ~40-45 MPH ON LOCAL RESIDENTIAL STREET I FREQUENTLY TRAVEL ON; SUNNY, DRY DAY, 55 DEGREES, NO ADVERSE WEATHER. NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND ONE TRUCK TO MY RIGHT SIDE IN HIS LANE. NO OBSTACLES IN LANE. MY CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHT AT ALL BRAKED EXTREMELY HARD TO A FULL STOP. -The Collision Mitigation System (CMS). - The CMS system has deployed numerous times over the last six months (approximately) without warning for no reason. The last time, I was traveling at approximately 45-50 mph and without warning and with no car within 100 yards of my vehicle, the brakes were automatically applied taking my speed instantaneously down to less than 10 mph, creating a very unsafe situation, especially if there had been a car traveling closely behind. -The vehicle was brought to a Honda dealer who ran tests and said there were no code errors. I was told that if the system applied the brakes that it proves that it is working correctly, even though I argued that they may technically be working but not appropriately. -Yes it was seen at a Honda dealer. -There were no warning signals when this occurred. It was totally out of the blue and caused a whiplash affect. -In my opinion this is a very dangerous situation and luckily it has not been serious any of the times it has happened to date. I would hate for it to be serious in the future and cause serious or fatal injuries. Currently we have to manually shut off the CMS every time we are driving.

Earlier, I had raised a complaint on my vehicle where Automatic Emergency Break applied though there were no obstacles or objects in front of my vehicle. On [XXX] around [XXX] at the same spot [XXX], Matthews, NC 28105] where my other incident was reported 2 years ago was repeated again and sudden break applied though there were no objects in front of my vehicle. Luckily the other vehicle is little far behind my car, otherwise we would have hit by the car and have happened. I am my family including my toddler were really shocked with this sudden stop and luckily nothing had not happened, except a mental stress. We couldn't imagine what could have happened. May be god saved us. This was reported at [XXX], Matthews, NC 28105. There was an iron bridge to pass on, on the way to Michael's from Costco. There are some iron poles on the sides of the bridge, the sensor might have detected the poles on the sides of the bridge as humans/objects crossing the bridge and suddenly the brakes might have applied without any warnings. Just an assumption as the incident happened at the same spot and same time. With this another incident, I still doubt the security measures or the sensing features that were calculated for applying the AEB. I hope Honda will read this and come up with a better solution for owner's like us. Thank you! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Unexpected braking while driving in city traffic. Brake pedal was untouched while driving at about 30 MPH...we were lucky no other vehicles were following!
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the "Brake System", "Collision Mitigation System", "Road Departure Mitigation", "Adaptive Cruise Control" and the "Lane Keeping Assist" massages remained displayed along with an audible alarm. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,400.

First incident: I was stopped at an intersection and when I proceeded to cross the intersection the automatic brake engaged. There was no one in front of me and the car behind me nearly crashed into my rear. The weather was clear and sunny. The second incident occurred two days ago. I was driving on my street and the brake engaged. It was raining. I contacted the dealer today (Sussman Honda at 1543 Easton Rd, Abington, PA 19001) and was told that this is "normal for ALL automatic braking systems" and not to worry.

I was driving and suddenly my car started beeping and flashing that I needed to brake. I felt my car slam to a stop in the middle of the road by itself. Thankfully there were no cars behind me or this could have resulted in a crash or serious injury.
Vehicle braked suddenly without stepping on the brake pedal. The vehicle then started to make beeping sounds. The vehicle is available for inspection. Luckily this happened in the evening and there were no cars in close proximity. This could have caused serious injury or death. This was the first occurrence. The vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer. No inspections have been made. This was the first occurrence. No warning lamps were noticed. Driver was taken by surprise and first reaction was to look around for other vehicles. There were no other symptoms.
The automatic braking component has braked, repeatedly, when there is nothing to brake for. Today, I was approaching a green light, no one was in front of me, the lane was clear, but the car suddenly braked. Fortunately, the person behind me did not hit me. It was a hard full stop. This has happened often enough, now, that I think I should turn that feature off. In the past when this happened, I have called the dealership, Brandon Honda, Brandon, Florida, and was told it was because I has the windshield replaced with non manufacturer original equipment. So, I had the windshield replaced with a Honda original, which resulted in higher insurance premiums due to the cost of the windshield and the frequency of replacement. Even with the manufacturer's windshield, the braking persists and seems to be happening more often and with a harder stop
On 2/10/2024 I was stopped waiting to put gas in my car when all of a sudden multiple lights lite up on my dash board (vehicle stability assist, vsa problems, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control problems, collision mitigation problems, road departure mitigation system problem, power steering (eps) problems, electric brake system problem, emission system problem, brake system problem, * all integral to safe driving for me. I was able to drive slowly to my mechanic and he was able to do a diagnostic assessment and it showed a code B1234 (Air Mix Control Motor Circuit (Driver's) Short. He was able to turn all the warning lights off. I am now a little afraid to use my car long distance until I can get assured that this will not happen again. In searching the internet I find that this is not an isolated occurrence. There are multiple complaints regarding this same issue.
While driving at 35-40 MPH the Automatic Braking System engaged randomly with no other vehicles or obstacles in front of or to the sides of vehicle. The 2018 Honda CR-V brakes engaged forcefully bringing the vehicle to a complete stop.
My car has regularly over the years I have owned it (brand new) hit the brakes on its own. The braking is so violent that all the contents of my car fly forward. I have had this type of braking occur when there is no obstruction in the road, no indication of a front end collision about to occur, nor lane crossings. This has happened a handful of times, less than 10, since 2018. However, my front crash detection has also triggered the BRAKE visual and audible warning more times that I can count that were unwarranted. It has triggered on light poles on the side of the road and the Centerville Turnpike Bridge regularly (Chesapeake, VA). There has also been one incident where I was braking and I was stopping in time, but the detection system decided to slam on the brakes even further. The brake pedal literally pulled away from my foot when I was already pressing it to the floor. The result of these incidents is my injured shoulder, sitting stalled in the middle of a busy street/highway, and being stunned as a focused driver. The car does not allow the driver to move right away and it can cause even more detrimental accidents.

Video is attached. Apon starting my car I can have a electrical/computer problem where all my safety systems start flashing problems or warnings. This can go on for a week and then disappear. When on I loose my cruise control, emergency braking and warning, low tire light stays on and other emergency systems show failure. My dealership said it could be low fuel pressure but not sure. Car runs great. I should not loose safety systems if pressure is low. I will be going back in and have a serious talk with service supervisor. Again I have attached a video of the drivers dash. Program doesn't allow me to upload files.

The fault code P0172: System too Rich (Bank 1) has resulted in loss of all Advanced Safety features, as well as the electric parking brake becoming inoperable.
I was driving towards a metal plate in the road, and the emergency braking mechanism engaged, stopping me suddenly with no warning. Luckily the car behind me was able to stop and didn't rear-end me.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the instrument cluster and the Lane and Collision Warning Systems failed, and the instrument cluster went dark. The contact stated that the failure was a recurring failure and happened at various speeds. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the rear taillights had failed, and the Forward Collision Avoidance system was also malfunctioning. The contact stated that the vehicle reset independently when the vehicle was parked and turned off and the instrument cluster and other electrical failures regained functionality. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced and would resolve the electrical failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, collision mitigation control, and other safety features are unavailable. Problem has been confirmed by independent service center. Has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No prior warning lamps until all warning lamps come on. Appears to be related to fuel injector failure code but the mechanic is not certain. I wonder if this is related to the fuel/oil contamination issue that this vehicle was part of a recall for.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVIATED ITSELF AS I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH. THIS OCCURED 2XS AT DIFFERENT INTERVALS/MONTHS. YES IT IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? On two separate occasions while driving the brakes locked up. The first time it happened was while driving over a steel street plate in a construction zone. The second time was while driving over normal road conditions. Had anyone been following closely it would surely have resulted in a collision. It also creates a real risk of injury to the driver being thrown forward without warning. These incidents occurred months apart.
I was driving eastbound with two passengers over the upper deck of the George Washington Bridge on a sunny clear morning around 10:30. Traffic was typical - heavy but moving steadily at about 15-20 miles per hour. I was in a middle lane about 2-3 car lengths from a truck in front of me when our car very abruptly braked hard for no apparent reason, with an orange warning flashing on the screen at the same time - so quickly I did not even have time to read it. We came to a complete stop or close to it, and then immediately the car resumed moving forward as if nothing had happened (my foot was still over the gas pedal). I was so confused, the lurching of the car felt like we had been in an accident and it took a few seconds to realize we had not been. I am shocked that we were not rear-ended by the car behind us, given the traffic. I would note that the abrupt braking occurred as we were about to go over one of the metal joints in the bridge surface, and I wondered if that had confused the sensors. Since there was no accident or damage, we continued on (no need for police or insurance). Our car is up to date on all inspections and recalls and this is the first time this has happened (though we do sometimes have issues with other aspects of the advanced safety system, including warnings about low driver attention and/or lane departures when these things are not happening).
Most recent issue occurred 10/25/23 with 2018 CRV. Traveling 15-20mph and approached a metal plate in the roadway in a construction area when car abruptly applied breaks without warning and car came to complete stop, almost causing me to be rear-ended by truck behind me. This is multiple occurrence. About a year ago, same issue happened when traveling 25mph and approached a metal plate in the road with asphalt surrounding it. No cars were slowly down nor impacted by the metal plate. My car misfired and abruptly slammed on the breaks to a halt without warning, causing the car behind me to slam in his breaks, swerve into next lane and honk as he passed me. Another time I was traveling 45mph on a country road with no objects or obstacles in the road when CRV abruptly braked down to 20mph and again, I almost caused an accident with the driver behind me. Other times, my CRV will flash brake and beep and slow when there aren’t any objects in the road. This is very concerning.
Today, October 25 was the fourth time my 2018 Honda CRV abruptly braked and stopped without warning. Today I was driving in a construction zone, and I was approaching metal plates on the roadway. I was traveling about 15-20mph when my car abruptly stopped. I was almost rear-ended by the truck driving behind me. The first time was in a construction area with a metal plate on the roadway and I was traveling 25mph when my CRV abruptly brakes without warning and stopped. Again, I almost got rear-ended. The car behind me brakes hard and swerved i to the other lane to avoid a collision and then honked at me when passing. Other times I am driving on the roadway, traveling 40mph when my car abruptly brakes but there isn’t an object in front of me. I’ve called the dealer and made an appointment for 10/26/23 to see why my CRV forward collision mitigation is misfiring. The technician will drive in the construction zone. I’ve driven in the same construction zone without any previous problem-today was a misfire. What if I’m driving at freeway speed of 65-70 and my CRV brakes suddenly without reason? This is a serious situation-with fatal consequences. My dashcam may have picked it up. I haven’t checked.
When I drove at around 4-50 mph. The car lost power, stalled and all the sensors and warning were on. I also smelled gasoline inside the cabin.

I was driving on a 2 lane highway, in the right travel lane, at approximately 60 MPH. There were no vehicles immediately in front of me in this lane, however, there was a line of stopped vehicles in the breakdown lane (to the right of my vehicle), because the off-ramp was backed up onto the highway. My forward collision warning system flashed BRAKE, 3 times on the dashboard. I took my foot off of the gas pedal, and before I could apply the brake, the car automatically slammed on the brake. My car stopped in the middle of the highway. Thankfully I was not rear ended by the car behind me. I took my car to OCEAN HONDA OF HANOVER, MA. They said everything is in working order, and "this just happens sometimes." I am not able to turn off this feature! I read a report (Consumer Reports Feb 2022) stating that you have been notified of approximately 300 of these instances with the 2018 HONDA CR-V. There is no recall. Are you still looking into this?

Fuel injectors. This causes electronic safety system to go haywire telling me they have malfuctioned. Evidently this is caused by the fuel injectors going bad. This puts the safety of me and my family at risk. All these failures can cause an accident. Research shows Honda Knows this and has discontinued the fuel injectors because they are faulty leaving owners without any resolution. They have no timeframe to resolve this. Could be months with owners not knowing how to proceed. therefore should not Honda be forced to buy back the curve just like Volkswagen did a few years back. Tired of car manufacturers putting the publics safety at fault because they put profits ahead of safety. I did my due diligence in researching this. Dealership in no help as their hands are tied because of Honda corporations failure.

I have been having issues with steering on the Honda CRV. The steering catches while driving down the interstate, which makes it hard to keep it in your lane. I have had the vehicle into the Honda dealer twice and they say that they can’t find anything wrong with the steering. The auto braking also comes on unexpectedly at times. I have contacted American Honda twice and can’t get a response on what I should do.

Driving in a neighborhood going 25 mph no one in front of me or behind me and the car flashes BRAKE makes a beep and then just locks the brakes and I skid to a stop. Took the vehicle to the dealership to check on it and they could not find anything wrong with it however the person said that the systems are not perfect, and things can happen. If someone was behind me, I would have caused an accident.
On multiple instances and most recently two days ago, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) has triggered orange "BRAKE" warnings or automatically applied the brakes to my 2018 CR-V despite there being no vehicles or obstacles ahead. Sometimes, this is caused by the system apparently getting confused by flat plates on the ground (for construction), shadows, or construction markings on the road, but about half of the time, there is absolutely nothing there. Most cases just flash a visual warning with beeps, but in two cases, I have almost gotten rear-ended because the car came to a complete stop in the middle of the road while traveling at 25-30 MPH. This has been going on for at least 2 years. I have tried to disable this system repeatedly to avoid accidents, but it keeps turning back on every time I start the engine. I read about an NHTSA investigation into this in 2022 but have not heard of any recalls or recommended actions for this safety issue. Thank you.

2018 Honda CR-V EX Shortly after purchasing my Honda CR-V in Feb 2018, I noticed a strong smell of gas when I changed the oil. I found a recall bulletin regarding fuel mixing with oil and worked with Honda to have a software update (Case #*******) in late 2018. Afterwards, the vehicle performed normally and has for a few years. Approximately 12 months ago every light on the instrumentation panel came on (Vehicle Stability, Adaptive Cruise Control, Tire Pressure monitoring, Collision avoidance, Lane Keep assist, etc) I used a code reader and found that the only hard code was P0172 “Fuel System Too Rich”. I reset the code and it came back the following day. I reset the code again and it came back 2 months later. Since then, the exact same code has shown up at least 6 times. It always occurs while the engine is running and I am idling, not when driving. Sometimes the dash warning lights clear automatically after a few days and sometimes I have to manually reset the P0172 code with a OBD tool. I have replaced the battery to ensure it wasn’t a low voltage issue, but it continues. While the code is set and all of the warning lights are present on the dash, none of the vehicle safety features work. Collision avoidance, Lane Keep assist, Adaptive Cruise Control. I do have an appointment scheduled with my local Honda Service Center for Oct. 2. Reading through TSBs and Customer complaints, I find hundreds of examples of this exact issue. I am concerned I will be billed $2K for a known issue with the fuel system in this vehicle. I recently purchased a 2023 Ridgeline and plan to give the CR-V to my 16 yr old son and I am also concerned about the reliability and safety systems on this vehicle. Please advise. Regards,
On September 6, 2023 at approximately 5:30 pm, I was driving approximately 30 mph when suddenly my car stopped abruptly for no reason. Consequently although with seat belt on, my head and neck were thrown forward and back. There was no obstacle in my path...the nearest vehicle in front of me was about one city block away. I had an immediate headache and my neck was hurt also. This pain lasted several hours. I had my grandson and his friend in my vehicle at the time and they were wearing their seatbelts and fortunately they were not injured.I made an appointment with the dealer and went the next day They adjusted this system and told me these things have occurred possibly because of a shadow or something else off to the side of the road. There was nothing in either case.

As I drove down the street at around 43 miles per hour my car suddenly braked then the sound and sign for brake came on. It came on after the car had breaker already.
On 8/28/23, I turned my car on and all the warning lights were flashing on the dashboard. Two days later, just before bringing the car in for diagnostics, they stopped flashing. Then today, started again. This happened before in April, of this year, but the lights stopped flashing until now. In May, my car slammed on the brakes while I was driving down a side road. The diagnostics showed nothing. Today, 9/1/23, the diagnostic report states the following need immediate attention:Fuel Injector Replacement: Need fuel iniector; *Brake Flush; Valve Cover Gasket Replacement; *Spark Plug Replacement 4 Cylinder My car is no longer under warranty
I was driving down a straight road on Sunday, August 27 going 50 mph in a 55 mph zone with no other cars on the road around me. My foot was on the gas. My car automatically braked with no warning. We went from 50 mph to stopped in the middle of the road and even with our seatbelts on, we almost hit the windshield it stopped so violently. As soon as it happened the car started to go again. We were very lucky no one was behind us or we would have been rear-ended due to the sudden stop. It also hurt our necks and backs from being jerked forward so violently. There were no warning messages or any warning signs before this occurred. This happened one other time about 6 months ago. It was the same scenario except we were going about 25 mph and just had gone through a stop light. The first time we thought it was just a glitch as my battery had died and we had just replaced it and the electronics were not working correctly just before the battery died. We notified the dealership and they were of no help. They said it was probably because we had just had a windshield replaced and it needed recalibrated, but it had just been calibrated a week prior. We took it to our mechanic and there were no codes on the computer except for a software update, which we have scheduled. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
I've had 2 incidents where the car automatically applied braking when it thought I was about to have a collision when there were no obstructions to my vehicle. The first was within my first 2 years of owning the vehicle. There was a steel plate in the road in a construction area that everyone had to drive over. I received the "BRAKE" warning on the display and the car immediately applied braking. Luckily there was no one behind me for this incident. There was a second time more recently where this happened, but there was literally nothing in the road or in front of me. The only thing I could think was that some light may have reflected and hit the sensors at the right angle and caused the car to think I was too close to another vehicle. This is a serious safety concern that could cause rear end collisions.
On 2 occasions the automatic braking system has kicked on for no apparent reason. First time my husband was driving at 55 mph on route 33, passing the exit to route 42. It kicked on twice. Second time I was driving at 50 mph on route 203, a country setting, no cars in front either coming at me or driving towards me. No animals around. It kicked on for no apparent reason and slowed the car way down. My fear is that we could be rear ended. If a person we’re riding in the car, unbuckled it could throw them around in the car and cause injury.
The brakes of my car activated automatically while my foot was pressing neither the gas nor the brake pedal. The forward collision alert also sounded. I was traveling at around 45 mph and was suddenly slowed to about 20 mph. Afterwards, everything seemed to returned to normal. I am unsure if this is available for inspection. There were five of us in the car and we were all put in danger due to the sudden change in speed while in traffic, however no collisions or injuries resulted from this incident. This issue has been previously reported by the NHTSA. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no prior messages or symptoms.

Driving speed limit down Beach Blvd. Overpass at Kernan Blvd was misread as a hazard. Instrument panel flashes (and sounds) Brake Brake Brake. Stopped instantly as entering intersection. Gas pedal was still engaged. Fortunately, car directly behind had ample distance (and was paying attention) to avoid rear ending the car at full speed. This exact situation has happened several times to me before today. Happened on overcast days. Reported to this agency and to Honda. Diagnostics were done at the dealership. System was guaranteed to have all the current updates and the sensitivity was adjusted to be less sentive to correct any further occurrences. Impossible to turn off this 'safety feature' per dealership. They were unaware of any systemic problems involved despite the fact I was able to locate other similar complaints online. I have an appointment tomorrow at Honda to reassess the recurring problem. Some one is going to die or be seriously injured when unexpected braking at higher speeds and larger trucks are involved.
On Aug 15, 2023 i was turning left at an intersection with no cars in front of me and no cars in oncoming traffic. i was going 20-25mph and slowing down a little bit to turn when i drove over a standard metal plate on the road and my 2018 Honda crv came to a complete abrupt and loud , painful stop. Lucky i wasn’t going any faster and there weren’t any cars immediately behind me. It did cause some pain in my back and neck and shook me up at the abruptness.

This issue is something I've noticed happen about once every six months since I've had the car (purchased in January 2018), but I have never had it inspected or confirmed by an authorized professional, dealer, etc. On occasion, the automatic brake system will detect a false positive and flash on the screen to brake OR just automatically apply the brakes for the vehicle, even when there is nothing in front of me. I don't know if it's coincidence, but this tends to happen when there are virtually no vehicles within close vicinity and when I'm either cresting a slight incline or at the base of a slight decline. I have had this happen at various speeds, from 30mph to 60mph. This puts my and others' safety at risk as an unexpected brake may cause a crash. No messages or other symptoms of this problem exist. It just happens on occasion.
On 2 separate occasions the car braked on its own one time so severely my seat belt activated. Brake light flashed on dash both times Luckily no one was behind me or it would have been an accident. First time it happened as we drove on the interstate. On both occasions there were no cars in front of us to warrant the car to break. It does it on its own
I have experienced my honda crv apply its automatic braking as if detects a collision but nothing is in my way. The message will flash on the screen a few seconds before. If someone is not wearing a seatbelt, they will be projected forward. I have noticed it will do it if the sun creates a shadow from a traffic light onto the road and it thinks something is in the way. Most always it is completely random and on moderate speed roadways when the person behind me may not have time to stop.
On July 25, 2023, in Naples, Florida, at approximately noon I was driving straight doing approximately 20MPH when the car suddenly hard braked, made a warning sound, something flashed on the screen and then, as suddenly, returned to normal driving. The outside temperature was 93-94F and there were no others automobiles in front, to the side or behind my CRV.
In February, 2023 all of the warning lights came on my 2018 Honda CRV, including brake failure, lane departure and many more, making me afraid to drive the car. Dealer wants to replace fuel injectors, but none are available! I’m afraid my car is a danger to myself and others on the road, since all the warning lights continue to appear. HELP!!
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, she heard the advanced forward collision alert chime and then the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the stop vehicle warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,100.

While driving, the emergency braking system randomly illuminates and today it actually applied the brakes by itself. Nobody behind car thankfully. Apparently this is an issue for these cars.
Driving on Friday July21 on 495 beltway in northern VA , and i was in the middle lane of the highway with no object, car, and others in front with at least 150 yards. the CRV breaks automatically without warning. it was very terrifying, luckily no car was following me.
The CMBS on my CRV inadvertently activated three times. After the third time I learned how to deactivate the system as I was afraid of having an accident. I also made an appointment with Penske Honda, Carmel, IN to review the issue. 1. I was driving 40 mph when suddenly the BRAKE light came on and the brake suddenly activated, but quickly released and all was well. There were no cars behind me. 2. A few days later I was driving on the interstate with cruise set to 60mph. With no warning the BRAKE light came on with a quick sudden stop/go. Even with a brief stop/go I was lucky there were no cars behind me. Due to the speed the sudden stop/go did put pressure on my seat belt. There we no other issues on my 30 min drive home. 3. A week later I was driving 40mph when the BRAKE light came on and a brief brake/go occurred. There was no car or object in front of me the three times this occurred. Due to my fear of driving the car, I continue to disengage the system each time I drive. I visited Penske Honda who looked over the car and found no issues. They adjusted the camera but were not aware of any issues with CMBS. I looked online and found that there were others that experienced my same issue. I will continue to turn off the CMBS since the dealership was unable to diagnose/fix the issue and I'm afraid of driving in traffic where I might suddenly brake for no reason.
While driving approximately 30-40 mph, my car beeped the sound it makes when you are too close to an object and slammed on brakes. There was nothing there. All the things on my seat flew to the floor. Thankfully I wasn’t on a busy road and no one was in behind me or there would have been an accident. This could cause major accidents if on a major roads or on a highway. I have not had it checked yet but saw there is an open investigation about this problem through you and wanted to add my car to the list.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated independently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while the vehicle in front was slowing down, the vehicle failed to slow down as designed. The contact desperately depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 115,000.

I have been receiving road mitigation problem, adaptive crude control problem, brake system warnings on my car, the dealer is taking a look at it and Honda should be held responsible as these are safety features.
Twice now, Emergency braking system caused car to unexpectedly brake without warning with no obstacle in front of the car. both times I was almost rear ended by the car behind me.
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep safety concern regarding an issue I have encountered with the Honda CRV 2018 that I recently purchased from the Honda Dealership in Bellevue, Washington. I purchased the aforementioned vehicle from your authorized dealership two weeks ago. However, within a few days of ownership, I began experiencing persistent ALL warning signals on the vehicle's dashboard. Alarmed by this situation, I immediately contacted the salesperson at the dealership who suggested that the issue may be related to the battery. They are not respsonsbile to this issue. Following their advice, I scheduled an appointment with the Honda Maintenance Service to address the problem. However, during the waiting period, I came across some recommendations from other Honda CRV 2018 owners, who suggested resetting the software as a possible solution. Desperate to find a resolution, I followed their instructions and miraculously, the warning signals disappeared. Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived as the signals reappeared after I replaced the battery myself. Seeking another temporary solution, I reset the software once again, which resulted in the warning signals disappearing once more. However, it is disconcerting to experience such recurring issues in a relatively new purchase. These warning signals not only cause anxiety but also raise concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Considering the seriousness of this matter, I kindly request your department's intervention to investigate and request the Honda to address this issue with the utmost urgency. It is essential to determine the root cause of the warning signals and provide an effective and permanent solution to ensure the proper functioning and safety of the vehicle.
When driving on a two lane road with no other cars around and traveling at 45 mph the car emergency brake heads up display light was displayed and braked in an unsafe, unpreventable manner to 10mph before allowing us to continue driving after manually breaking and applying speed again. This is now the third time this has happened this year and it's unsafe.
While I was driving, the vehicle suddenly braked and I did not hit the brake pedal. There was no one in front of me and thankfully, no one behind me. I had 2 other people in the car with me.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle made an abrupt stop. The contact was unsure if there were any warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after several minutes the vehicle started operating normally. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was no recalls for the failure and provided not additional assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Reporting an old incident as it matches an issue with the current open investigation on the Emergency Collision Brake system in the Honda CR-V line. Was driving down the highway unobstructed, no vehicles in front of me but had vehicles a fair distance behind me. Emergency forward collision system engaged with no warning, with zero obstructions, and stopped my vehicle on a dime. Had the cars behind me been closer, there would have been a collision into the back of my vehicle. Vehicle was inspected by a local Honda dealership and a cause was not found, but brake booster was replaced as a precaution under warranty.

I completed an oil change on Saturday May 13, 2023 with Morehead Honda, Newburgh NY. On May 14, 2023, while operating my 2018 Honda CRV all the lights for the ADAS illuminated on the dash board of the vehicle and continued to cycle through continously. The lights are as follow: hill start problems, collision mitigation problems, brake system problems, power steering problems, VSA problems, steering problems, TPMS problem. Brake hold problems, adaptive cruise problems, electrical brake problems, brake hold system problems, road mitigation problems, emissions system problems and power steering problems I returned the vehicle to Morehead Honda dealership and a diagnostic was performed. The diagnostic results were excessive fluid to injector and excessive air to brake which involves the compressor and the fuel injector. This is a clear manufacturer defect which is a safety issue. I also conducted a query on the NHSTA and there are recalls listed for issue for 2018 Honda CRVs, however my vehicle VIN was not included.

Additionally, the brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The brake assist activates randomly when no one is in front of the car. Usually happens at intersections. Today I was slowing down to go through an intersection and the brake assist engaged and my car slammed to a stop. The person behind me almost hit my car. Light was green. I am tired of this happening and no longer feel safe driving this car. This has been happening ever since I got the car
I was driving on the highway with plenty of distance between me and cars in front of me. My brake warnings came up (forward collision warning) when unnecessary, and my car stopped in the middle of the highway without me putting my foot on the brake pedal. It was a strong enough brake to jolt me forward in the car. This almost caused me to be rear-ended as the car behind me had to stop unexpectedly.
I was driving at 45mph down a straight two lane road that has a left turn lane in the middle. There were no cars in front of me nor any cars coming toward me in the opposite direction. Also there were no upcoming curves or stop lights/signs. Suddenly my Honda CR-V flashed the BRAKE warning signal on the instrument panel and then proceeded to brake hard on its own. This lasted for about 1-3 seconds. Afterward the car resumed normal operation. Luckily there were no cars behind me either during the event. My right foot was on the accelerator the entire time. My left foot was near the seat and nowhere near the brake pedal. The weather was sunny, temperature about 75 degrees F. The sun was directly overhead as it was near noon. I am the original owner and this is the first time this has happened with this vehicle since purchasing it in 2018.
Several times, the vehicle will brake without an obstacle in the road. It is extremely scary - at one time, it forced me to react unexpectedly and almost got into an accident. This is scary.
Was driving around 57 mph on a 2 lane road with no cars in front or obstacles when the car suddenly flashed the brake warning on the dash board and quickly slowed the car. It only lasted a second or two then I was able to accelerate the car. Luckily there was no cars in front or behind me. It has happened twice before but this time was the most sudden braking.
Had just pulled out of my local hardware store and was going home when the brakes suddenly came on bringing me to a very sudden stop while traveling on a main road. Luckily the car behind me had time to stop. I didn't apply the brakes or the parking brake. I don't know what caused it. No cars were directly ahead of me. After the stop I was able to move again. I pulled off of the road to see if I could figure out what happened. Nothing seemed wrong and I went home without further problems.
Since the summer of 2021, I have experienced numerous instances of the Collision Mitigation Braking System "Brake" warning light coming on for no apparent reason. There has been no one in front of me and no reason for me to brake. This has happened numerous times and at varying (freeway and slow) speeds, but the system did not actually initiate braking. I reported this problem to Honda during a regular service appointment in July of 2021 and it is documented. I have had other discussions with service personnel since then, but I do not have any further documentation. Recently, they tried changing the CMBS settings to make it "less sensitive." This was actually shortly before my most recent incident. On May 19, 2023, the CMBS system actually engaged the brake. Fortunately, I was traveling at a low speed and there was no one behind me. There was no reason for the car to come to an abrupt stop. Honda has suggested previously to come to the service department right after these incidents without turning off the car. I have not been able to do that. I did however notify the service department of this new development but they did not ask to see or test the vehicle. I don't know if they have documented this latest incident. I did research the problem online and found that there have been other reported instances of a problem with the CMBS. I provided some of the articles I found and expressed my (safety) concerns about driving a vehicle that initiates braking for no apparent reason to my local service advisor. He did reach out to a regional representative in Northern California on my behalf. The regional rep had nothing to offer.

While I was driving on the highway without any cars ahead of me, the emergency braking system engaged for a few seconds. Fortunately there was not a car behind me and I was able to continue driving. I have an upcoming appointment with a Honda dealer to examine the issue. There was no prior warning of a malfunction.
Today, as I was driving my automatic braking system activated without need. There was no obstacle. It was a clear and sunny day. I was driving the speed limit of 50 mph. The brakes activated so hard that if I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt I would’ve been injured. Currently my neck and back do hurt but I did not seek medical attention. This has not happened before and I have owned this vehicle for over 2 years. I have not reported the incident to my dealership yet because it is Sunday and they are not open.
First, the forward camera failed and was replaced at cost of $1800. There were no problems with the original camera until it failed. The replacement camera has since three times initiated an emergency stop at a particular road location where there is no hazard.

I was driving In Milwaukee WI at about 5 mph and drover over a metal plate in the road that was covering road construction, there were no obstacles in front of my car but the emergency braking system flashed the brake warning light about 3 times then immediately applied the brakes full force and stopped the car very abruptly - thankfully we a had seat belts on and were going slow. If we had been going faster who know what would have happened. As I said there was nothing in front of the car it just emergency braked for no reason.
Driving on freeway at approx 65 mph when the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) notification flashed on the dash, and the car automatically hard braked on its own, while my foot was on the gas.Only lasted a few seconds but I felt the lag and it resumed back to normal. This is my second experience of this happening since purchasing the car in February of 2022. The first time however, was at a much slower speed (>20mph), and I did not notice the ACC indication beforehand. The vehicle hard braked while in traffic but resumed back to normal seconds after. I believe the brake indicator flashed on the dash the first time , despite being a fair distance behind the vehicle in front of me. The incidents were approximately 1 year apart from each other.

I am getting intermittent BRAKING happening on my car, slowing me down while in motion. There is no object in front on me. This is a safety issue!
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on two separate occasions, the vehicle abruptly stopped without incident. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was informed that unless they could duplicate the failure, they could not determine the cause for the failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Round Rock Honda (2301 N Interstate Hwy 35, Round Rock, TX 78664) where the mechanic lowered the braking mitigation system sensitivity. The contact was also advised to turn the braking mitigation system off upon starting the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Driving approximately 35mph at 6:30 pm while still daylight outside, the automatic braking system engaged for no reason, with the “brake” warning appearing on the dash. No other cars around thank goodness, but the unexpected, sudden braking was scary and I’m grateful no car was behind me, as I’m sure it could have resulted in a collision. I have not taken the car in as of yet to have the breaking system checked. I’m very concerned this could happen again and if it were to occur on a highway or bridge I don’t want to think of the possible outcome. Others with 2018 CR-V’s have reported similar incidents and it seems that Honda needs to address this matter now. I purchased this car in May 2022 with 33,000 miles on it, and I did so, due to the excellent reputation of Honda vehicles. They need live up to that reputation.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, without incidence, the vehicle abruptly stopped. During the failure, no vehicle nor objects were nearby. There were no warning lights illuminated nor messages displayed. The contact stated that the failure occurred a second time and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a software update on the braking mitigation system. The contact was advised to turn the braking mitigation system off after starting the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,700.

On two separate occasions when driving, my vehicle slammed on the brakes by itself with no obstructions or vehicles in front of me. When it happens the instrument cluster says brake. Luckily no one was behind me or I would have been rear-ended.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle experienced unintended braking. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. Stopped at a red light then proceeded to drive through the intersection on the green light. No cars or pedestrians in front of the car. Driving about 15 - 20 mph when the automatic braking system engaged and slammed on the brakes for no reason. The jeep behind me rear-ended me then drove off.
I was driving around 50 mph there was no car in front of me then all of a sudden the car braked very hard. My son got scared so did I. I’m glad there was no one behind me cause if it did they would have hit me. I did not put my foot on the brakes, it did it automatically. Like I said I was driving regular at 50 mph. There should be a recall on this issue and see if the emergency braking sensor can be deactivated. I’m scared driving my Honda CR-V cause of that incident.
Driving to work this morning approximately 6:40am, it was pretty dark out. Road conditions were fine (dry, no rain or snow, etc.). My CR-V automatically slammed on the brakes without warning for maybe 1/2 of a second and then released them as the screen flashed bright and then immediately kicked to an error about the auto-high beam detection system. Luckily there was no one behind me. There was one vehicle approaching me from the other side of the road but they did not have their high beams on. I was looking ahead the whole time and did not see any other errors before or after it happened, and I was applying the gas pedal the whole time as well. In case it's a contributing factor, my car is fairly dirty from road salt spray (dry) and I was going run it through the car wash this afternoon.
While driving all dash lights warning started flashing disabling forward crash avoidance power steering stability control tire pressure everything is blinking and flashing. Had to pull to side of road and almost got run over
We had just gotten off the freeway and were sitting at a stoplight. When the light turned green, all of a sudden several of the yellow warning lights on the dashboard started to flash: emergency braking, electronic parking break, tire pressure, lane-keep assist, and others. The car became sluggish and moved forward haltingly and slowly. It feels like the breaks or the parking break are cycling on and off. We pulled over as soon as we could. Turning the car off didn't clear the warning lights. We called AAA and they came and checked the battery -- which was at 100% and working fine. The parking break works fine; we can hear it turn on and off using the lever. We had it towed to a Honda dealer nearby and are having it evaluated. It is undriveable in this state, and we are concerned that even if the dealer gets the warning lights to shut off, it could happen again at any time. There are reports all over the NHTSA website that this is a common issue -- please investigate!
While in line to park the car in the del mar fairgrounds, (San Diego, CA) after a 25-minute ride and 59 F degrees outside, main display start sending all type of 'Problem' messages, one after another, as follow: - Brake Hold System Problem, - Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, - Vehicule Stability Assist (VSA), - Hill Start Assist, - Adaptative Cruise Control, - Collision Mitigation System, - Road Departure Mitigation System, - Electric Parking Brake, - Tire Pressure Monitor, - Emissions System, Brake System. Despite all Messages, the car keeps running and is able to go off and start again. Perhaps, the electric parking brake may prevent you to go if connected, since you have no control of it (happened once). This is the second time in two weeks that this failure occurs. It may or may not be related to another consistent issue regarding the side display (the one used for radio control, brightness, car setup, etc.) which becomes unstable and change/beep with no control from one screen to another, starting with the brightness control. This case requires the car to turn off and restart, solving the issue for a couple of weeks, and up to two months. I'm writing down this complaint because other owners express the same issue in forums, with no official statement from Honda so far. Countermeasures recommended by other users are: Exchange the battery for new one Drive around and apply brakes firmly. The above fixed the issue for me. A cell video of this issue is available. Attached picture shows all warning alerts with car engine idle. Thank you.

Collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. We noticed alerts from the system when strong shadows appeared across the road such as from an overpass, heavy trees, etc. At first it was the "Brake" alert indicator only, on three known occasions. A couple weeks later, the car activated the collision mitigation braking system for no reason. We were travelling at 55 MPH on a country road with no vehicles, pedestrians, nor animals nearby. As we approached shadows from tall trees, the emergency braking activated suddenly, bringing the car to a complete stop. Thankfully no vehicles were behind us. Vehicle was brought to Honda dealership for service. Inspected the system and told us all components were properly aligned to manufacturer specifications. They were unable to determine why system malfunctioned. They advised "Honda is aware of the problem and working to find a solution." That was in October 2022. I checked with Honda service most recently on January 25, 2023 and they still have no solution. For our safety, we have been deactivating the system each time we drive the vehicle. This safety system not working is a problem, as is having to deactivate it on each drive. They need pressure to issue a recall and identify a solution.

The parking brake could not be released. Driver was stranded and had to get the car towed to the dealer. Cost $ 470 to repair. The vehicle is less than 5 years old - and brake parts should be in drive train warranty - but dealer denied coverage. My car has had problems in the past with electronic components - related to the automatic driver assist system - specifically the sensors. The automatic brake engages when a normal driver wouldn't slam on the brakes.
- When I was switching lanes on the highway my dashboard started flashing brake system problem, steering wheel system problem, tire pressure system problem, etc. The engine light, breaker system light, battery light, steering wheel light, and a few others turned on. After coming to a complete stop my car would not turn off. After pushing the “power button” multiple times it turned off completely. - My safety and the safety of others on the road were put at risk when my car started slowing down as if the break was being pushed on its own on a 55mph highway. My car automatically slowed down to 35mph on its own causing me to park it on a solitary road next to the highway. - unknown - No - The car has shown on the dashboard to “brake” when no cars are in front of it a few times before.

I was driving approx. 35, no one in front of me on road and car slammed on brakes as if I was going to hit something.
The braking system slowed the car first then came to a complete stop and there was nothing in front of me . Luckily, I was able to really get out in front of the car behind me or it would have hit me in the rear. I took it to the Honda dealership right away & of course since they had no "error code" there was nothing to report I was told but what if I had really been hurt, what then ?? Honda has a serious problem with the brakes on the 2018 CRV. I purchased this vehicle new and I really expect better from Honda but they are not living up to the reputation they've had in the past. I don't trust the vehicle as I never know when it'll do it again.
Driving at a speed of approximately 30-35 mph over a railroad track, the automatic emergency braking system was erroneously triggered. The vehicle came to an extremely abrupt stop in the middle of the railroad track. The vehicle behind us proceeded to rear-ended us. This is the second time the vehicle has stopped abruptly at a railroad track. The warning messages only appeared at the exact same moment the car stopped, not providing any warning as to what was about to happen. I'm awaiting an appointment for the car to be seen by the dealership for the AEB system, but because this caused a collision I filed a claim on my insurance and the car had to be repaired. This was a safety issue for multiple reasons, including that it caused injury for both the driver and the passenger. It also was a safety issue because it occurred on a railroad track and if the car had not been drivable, or if we had been incapacitated, we could have been killed by the train.
Every component was flashing malfunctioning.WILL be taking it to dealer tomorrow.

Warning lights for multiple (possibly all) systems begin appearing and all ADAS including traction control is deactivated. The condition clears eventually in its own after fuel up, possibly several days later. Dealership attributes conditions to bad fuel injector with no other fuel related symptoms because the condition includes and engine code for either a faulty fuel injector or fault AC control module.

I recently bought a 2018 Honda crv and have had ongoing issues with the touch display going on and off by itself. I took a video of it. It will randomly start blinking and beeping changing the brightness on the display. There is no way to shut it off or stop it without turning off the vehicle. I have also had issues with the automatic braking system. It is braking when it should not be. It has happened to me twice on the freeway now and once in town thankfully no one was behind me, or I would've been rearended badly and possibly been flipped in my vehicle. I was going 75 miles per hour, and it started flashing brake and then braked for no reason there was nobody in front of me. Another time it said I was skidding but I was not until it braked than I began to skid at which point it did nothing to stop the skid. I have recently skid on ice, in town and it did not do anything to stop it, nor did it respond. I have not taken the vehicle in yet. I was researching the issues to see if they were known issues with my vehicle. To my dismay they are. I bought this vehicle due to its safety features as I have my grandkids with me frequently. My Audi did not have the winter safety features I needed.
While driving at about 53 mph on the highway, the collision braking system suddenly beeped, and the ”BRAKE” indicator on the dashboard came on by itself. There was no car in front of me for at least 100 feet, nor was there any car on the sides. It was a false positive. While the brake was not otherwise activated, and the car did not stop, it was quite disconcerting. This should be checked out. It was a clear evening, around 8pm.

This has happened about 3 times since I purchased the vehicle in end of 2018. While I was driving out of no where the car will just brake, there is nothing in front of me or blocking me and one time I was going about 40 mph and the others were when I was going about 30 and 50 so it’s been a range. Luckily every time I’ve been driving there has not been anyone behind me but for sure if someone was behind me, I possibly would’ve gotten rear ended with how fast the car stopped. Other times the car will beep the brake indicator at me, but not stop the car just telling me I need to apply the brakes but there’s nothing in front of me or around me.
I was going through an intersection on my way home when the CRV suddenly applied significant braking force, flashed the BRAKE message on the dash display, and abruptly slowed the vehicle down. Thankfully there was no other vehicles behind me or there likely would have been a collision. There were no other vehicles in front of me. I can't recall the exact details of what other vehicles may have been around, but there was definitely no reason to be slamming on the brakes. This incident occurred at roughly 11:30am EST on a clear day with sun shining. This is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.
My 2018 Honda CRV has flashed BRAKE on dashboard about 8 times since the last 2-1/2 years. Please note that the vehicle never actually stopped. On November 20, 2022 it even beeped for the first time. And of course all of the 8 or so times that the BREAK appeared on my dashboard, there was no one or anything in front of the vehicle. I took vehicle to Honda of Essex NJ on 11/21/2022 and according to the tech the radar was misaligned (but who knows) I was told to pay a diagnostic fee of $174.19. I have not been in any accident, nor have bumped into anything since I’ve owned the vehicle. I am also aware of the CNN article dated 02/24/2022 involving the same issue and is under investigation by NHTSA. I tried to get reimbursement of the $174.19 from Honda USA but because vehicle is no longer under warranty, I’ve been denied. This is a major safety issue and hoping it will become a recall. Is there anything the NHTSA can do for me?? Please advise. Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Sep 25, 2022, en route from Columbus, OH to WV our 2018 Honda CRV started flashing a plethora of warnings regarding braking problems, blind spot failure, lane assist failure, collision mitigation failure, and many other driver assistance failures. We pulled off the interstate, into a service station, at the nearest exit. Once the car was stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic emergency brake would not release. We had the car towed to the local Honda dealership in Zanesville, OH. On Oct 3, 2022 the Zanesville dealership contacted us to pick up the car; they had replaced a wiring harness and control module over the rear view mirror. They said the wiring had “melted”; they said they did not have the expertise to resolve all the warnings but that the car could be driven. We picked up the car on Oct 8, 2022. Within 20 miles, the car was not only flashing warnings but also constantly beeping. We made it to Bruceton Mills, WV before stopping for gas. Again, once stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic parking brake refused to release. The car was towed to the I-79 Honda dealership in Morgantown,WV. That dealership has master electronic technicians. That was 2 months ago and the car is STILL there. The dealership has been in contact with Honda, Inc but they simply cannot resolve the electrical problems and are awaiting a Honda field technician to troubleshoot. This was a systemic electronics failure that incapacitated all of the electronic safety features — making the vehicle unsafe to drive.

I'm driving on the highway approx 70-75mph. as I am slowing down and moving over to the exit ramp all of a sudden the automatic emergency braking system starts braking! This almost caused a rear end collision from the car behind me. He had to swerve a little to miss me. He was pretty angry and most likely thought it was my intention to brake that hard. It was extremely frightening and I am wondering if I should just turn off this safety feature until Honda figures this out?
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Emergency Automatic Braking system engaged while there was no object or vehicle nearby. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who calibrated the brakes. While driving, the brake warning light illuminated. The driver depressed the brake pedal and the warning light turned off. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who informed her that the brake calibration was working as designed. The contact stated she turned off the automatic braking feature. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000. The VIN was not available.

Turn my car on and every light on my car is currently flashing saying nothing safety wise is working. Googled it and it seems to be a major problem that Honda isn’t fixing.

On December 1, 2022, I was driving my 2018 Honda CRV on an expressway at 45-50 mph when the car's automatic braking system activated the brakes unexpectedly while the vehicle was moving forward. I was driving in the middle lane on an expressway with nothing close in front of me and it happened without reason or warning. My passenger and I were lurched forward. Fortunately, no one was driving close behind me. The dealer has not been notified at the time of writing this complaint.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle independently applied the brakes. There was an audible sound heard during the failure. The vehicle returned to normal operation after several seconds. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but only an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was sent an email documenting the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.

On 11/30/22 my wife was driving at 32 mph with no vehicles in front, when suddenly, CR-V brake warning light flashed and came to a complete stop. Approx. 20 minutes later vehicle did it again but, this time not a complete stop. Concerned about this happening at higher rate of speed and getting rear ended. Called dealer and no recalls. I have read on internet, other drivers having similar experience with these models. This would be the third time in 6 months that it has happened. No warnings prior to incident happening, just flashing brake warning light with tone.

I was in a parking lot leaving from my job in am. Clear weather 65° As I was driving 7mph the car slammed on the brakea if an object or vehicle was in front of me. No advanced warning s. There was nothing in front of me. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me and twice when my son was driving. His speed was approx40mph and the brakes slammed on with nothing crossing or in front of his path. I currently have an appointment at 1030 this am to take to Honda dealership to get an assessment. This is extremely troubling and dangerous. My daughter is driving with her learners permit in this vehicle. Please fix immediately!!!!
The brake light came on , the seatbelt tightened around my neck and the car just came to a stop throwing my neck forward but there was no car in front of me and no cars on the side of me.
The automatic emergency braking system engaged without warning, stopping the car abruptly while I was traveling at 25 + MPH without any hazard ahead and no imminent collision. I was nearly rear ended and have suffered a strain of left thumb which was on steering wheel and will now need to be seen by medical personnel. The Red BRAKE signal came on but the car immediately braked to a dead stop within a second. I am calling the dealer next.
Driving on a highway at approximately 50 mph at night. No other vehicles in front for a very long distance. Our cars brakes automatically engaged (CMBS system) causing an abrupt stop in the middle of the road. Vehicle behind almost rear-ended us, but did not. Luckily, there was no collision or injuries. Do not trust the CMBS system anymore and disable it when driving now.
I was driving slowly down the street in my 2018 Honda CRV with no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. Suddenly, the Automatic Emergency Braking System engaged and stopped my car. I began driving again and about a minute later the same thing happened again even though there was no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. This is a serious safety issue and I am having my Honda dealer inspect the car.
I was driving around 45-55 MPH and the automatic brake indicator flashed and my car slowed to around 5-10mph. There were no cars in front of me and thankfully no cars behind me. Only one car to the left that was passing. Weather was foggy but could still see clearly about a mile ahead.
I was driving to the ferry in Seattle WA about 6pm PST and crossing railroad tracks on South Holgate Road going west between 3rd and 2nd avenue when the emergency braking systems engaged (phantom braking) and immediately stopped the car on top of the railroad tracks. I was moving at relatively slow speed because of the bumpiness of the railroad tracks. I disengaged the transmission from drive to neutral, put my foot on the brake and was able to get the car moving again. Fortunately the car behind me was able to stop and did not run into me.
All warning lights for all systems go off on dash disabling all systems when driving. this has happened about 15 times in the past 2 years. Never know if the car will react badly when driving due to the warnings. Tried to have dealer look at it but as others have stated in blogs, suddenly goes off the day before you have to take it in and can't reproduce it. Dealer laughed a bit as they said they have not seen it before even though there are hundreds of people online complaining about it since 2017. Showed them video, pictures, etc. They have checked the car over, reloaded software, etc. couldn't find anything wrong or any error codes. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE I BOUGHT IT. At 10k miles, dash started flashing, beeping and wouldn't stop. Had to pull off hwy and restart to get it to go away. Dash goes blank, radio won't work, Sirius XM is not on when I get in car 3 out of 7 days a week. overnight switches to AM. I never listen to AM. Read the blogs and so many people are experiencing this with no resolution or response from Honda Corp.

3 incidences of random braking & car suddenly slowing from AEB when riding down roadway & highway. There was no reason because nothing in front of vehicle & no Speeding. It could have resulted in a car hitting me in rear.
AEB has engaged suddenly multiple times, most recently today, without any risk of collision in front of the vehicle causing extreme hard stops. It has happen both while braking and accelerating causing accelerator to slam to the floor as the braking was unexpected.
The Automatic Emergency Breaking system stopped my car two times when traveling over a steel plate in the road that is there during road maintenance.
2018 CRV repeatedly had emergency brake amber light go on in the center of the dashboard. It goes on for a few seconds then shuts back off. This has been happening intermittently for the last two months. It has happened in the past(years ago) but there is no documentation of that complaint. Took vehicle to Honda dealership last week. Initially could not find what was wrong. Finally after hours of running tests? It came down to one code and that the issue was the electronic brake booster. The vehicle stayed overnight. After paying a large sum of money, 5 days later, the light turned on amber on the dash again. I called Honda Service repeatedly but could not reach the Service personnel that had assisted me 5 days previously. Finally talked to another service manager last evening at 6:00 p.m. Bringing car in first thing Friday Morning October 21st. One service manager stated that she had not seen this problem before. There are a few incidences that can be found on the internet with what appear to be simple fixes i.e. low brake fluid, air in line, problem with software, problem with a line to the display and still others. The end all was the issue was treated as a safety issue by one ,while another person stated something alluding to if it was a serious safety issue the warning light on the dash would have been red and not amber. In addition, yesterday when the light came on.(after the problem was purportedly repaired) I was doing about 40. There was a brief pause/resistance to the brake as I was slowing. This happened on a main thoroughfare at 0915 a.m. None of this has made ANY sense and I stated as such.
while driving with no one around me the vehicle slams on the brakes by itself causing items to slide off seat. other times the collision light engages with no traffic in front or obstruction. afraid to get rear ended on highway as there is no way to tell when this will happen. this has happened multiple times with lite, But first for the emergency braking initiated by the vehicle

Toda la seguridad relacioada al sistema de frenos y la emisión de gases es un problema persistente en el panel del vehículo. Al parecer es un problema común de éstos vehículos según las reseñas que he escuchado y leído de por parte de otros propietarios de éstos vehículos.
About 2 weeks ago on my way home from picking up my son from football practice there were some metal plates on the road where they were doing construction. It was getting dark and when we got to the plates the "brake" light started flashing and beeping then my car automatically slammed on the breaks scaring both of us. Thankfully there wasn't a car behind us or it would have definitely caused a collision. Last night again on my way to pick up my son (on another rd) I was driving and another metal plate and the same incident happened. This time my dog was in the back sleeping and she flew out of the back seat. Brake light going on/off and beeping and SLAMMED on brakes. Praise Him there was no car behind me this time either. The 2nd was worse than the 1st. I bought my CRV new in 2018. Several times all the dash lights come on but eventually they go off and I have problems with the navigation but this is too dangerous to not address. I'm not sure what to do I've no other car. I'm in a big city. Construction is everywhere and I beginning to become fearful to drive. This is too dangerous and I definitely don't anything to happen to anyone. Thank you for taking your time looking into this. Looking foward to having answers.
On 3 occasions my CRV has implemented the automatic break system when there is nothing in front of me and no reason to break. Today it happened when traveling 40+ mile an hour and the sudden break caused a near rear collision.
Driving at night, in the mist, approx 40 mph on city roads, my collision system flashed and brakes automatically applied. No obstacles were in front of me, and the nearest car was in the left lane (I was in the right lane), about 50 feet ahead. Four lane divided city road, speed limit 40. Not near an intersection. In the nearly 5 years of ownership, I have experienced about two dozen routine flashes of the warning without cause I could see, but never had the car automatically apply the brakes. It has happened particularly in the mist and dark, when the roads reflect lights. I have also had it happen when descending into the I-664 tunnel in the mist. This is the first instance where the car also applied the brakes.
After work I was on my way home. I was stopped at a traffic light when the light turned green. I came off the brake and began to step on the gas when the car stopped suddenly and a "Brake" light showed on my dashboard. There was nothing in front of my car at the time as I was the first in line. After the car stopped suddenly it immediatly started rolling again and I was able to continue driving as normal and got home safely. Thankfully the car behind me did not crash into me. There was no warning/lights/messages before to signal a problem.
All safety lights are showing on dash. This is NOT due to low battery power as it happened before and after replacement. I have reset the infotainment and even disconnected and reconnected the battery. The problem always comes back. I have been to two mechanics and spoken with a Honda dealer. No one has been able to fix the problem. Hill assist, cruise control, awd, and other electronic safety systems no longer work. I have seen multiple discussion boards where Crv owners are experiencing this major safety issue. There needs to be a recall and Honda needs to take ownership of this problem.

While on the highway, the car suddenly slammed on the brakes and stiffened the steering wheel. Was a sunny day, passing under a bridge. There was a dark shadow cast horizontally across the road by the bridge. I turned on my blinker to change lanes. A second vehicle approached quickly from the back left hand side. The car suddenly hit the brakes. If there was a car following closely, we would have been rear ended. If my new-driver son had been driving, it could have resulted in a (further and more dangerous) loss of control. The braking was shocking, unnecessary and dangerous and it happened on a fast, narrow, twisting highway through a city. At a minimum, it seems the owner should have the ability to turn this collision mitigation system off permanently. This system is dangerous in its current state.
I was driving along a road when I was suddenly out of nowhere thrown forward as my car beeped and the automatic breaking system kicked in. There was nothing there! No one was driving in front of me. I now have some whiplash which is really unfortunate and I do not trust my car not doing this again with my 10 month daughter in the car. All Honda CRV’s should be recalled. It’s horrific and dangerous! Had this happened on a motorway we would have had someone coming through our back window!
The car's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system unexpectedly applied brakes while the vehicle was in motion on the freeway and almost caused a crash.
Honda CR-V 2018. Faulty camshaft. About August 7. While driving I had car act sluggish. Noticed my dashboard lights on. About a few weeks later about Sept 17 my car changed gears on me while driving. Sept 30 2022 had diagnostics done at dealer. I have a text. Per McDavid Honda of Plano TX. “We're done with the diagnostics, your vehicle had an intermediate failure on your Camshaft position sensor.” Avail for inspection. The sensor can cause safety risks as the car stalling while driving. Engine misfire. Transmission shifting issues. Car may not start. Car can jerk forward while driving as a result of an improper amount of fuel being injected into cylinders. Poor acceleration. First appeared in August. Had dealer review on about 8/25/22. Said they fixed it but it wasn’t fixed. 9/30/22 had dealer do diagnostics testing. Again they said it was fixed. It was not fixed. Having dealer look at it again 10/3/22. Warning signs include sensor lights on dashboard: engine light, emission system problem, brake system fail, parking sensor fail, tire pressure system problem, electric parking brake problem, auto high beam problem, road departure system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem, hill start assist problem, vehicle stability problem, power steering system problem, brake hold system problem,

My vehicle activated the brakes hard on its own with no cars close in front of it. This happened twice in the last month. Fortunately, no one was close behind me! I took my car to my local Honda dealership today. They checked it out and reported that the radar cover was dirty and that possibly caused the problem.

Three times now my car has activated the emergency braking system when there was nothing in front of me. Below the speed on the odometer will show an orange "BRAKE" flashing box and it will beep until the car slams on the breaks itself. This has happened when I have been going 40-60 mph and the car behind me is not expecting a harsh breaking since there was nothing in front of me. This has not been inspected by anyone.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the braking system erroneously activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the roadway. During the failure, there were no other vehicles or objects nearby to cause the Forward Collision Avoidance Emergency Automatic Braking system to be activated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact stated that a similar failure had previously occurred and the vehicle had erroneously slowed down with the "Brake" message displayed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 63,600.

Multiple times my car has applied emergency brakes on its own with nothing to cause it. Passing a vehicle with my turn signal the car applied brakes and almost caused the car behind me to rear end me. On the highway car randomly applies brakes when cars pass. After making a quick break myself due to the car in front of me braking, I released the brake pedal to continue moving since the car was far away. My vehicle immediately applied emergency brakes and skidded to almost a full stop on a State road. Almost causing me to be rear ended.

While driving the car on 8/17/2022 at 35-40 mph suddenly the emergency braking system turned on and stopped the car. There were no cars in front, in back or on the sides of me and the road was flat with no obstructions. At the time I was accelerating slightly with my foot only on the gas pedal. The car braked to a stop under heavy braking and luckily no-one was behind me or there could have been a serious accident. I made an appointment 2 days later with my local Honda dealership and they checked the car and found no problems with the emergency braking system and said it might be a software glitch. At this point I want to register the problem so hopefully a recall will be available to fix this dangerous situation but, in the meantime, I don't feel comfortable driving the car.
I have been driving on a regular street at about 25-30 m/hour. There were no cars in front of me and the road was straight and clear. Suddenly emergency breaking system turned on and car has stopped. Another similar incident occurred several weeks ago when I was driving on a highway on HOV lane at about 70 m/hour and had cruise control on. These instances did not cause any accident but if there was another car behind me, it certainly would. I did not have any issues with car besides this. I have not contacted the dealer yet but if there will be another instance, I definitely would.
On four occasions the AEB engaged for no reason. Three times we were on residential of city streets under 40 mph. There were no cars or obstacles for several hundred feet. One time was driving into the morning sun, the other times the sun was higher in the sky. The warning indicator engaged and the brakes engaged on three occurrences with hard braking. The fourth incident was on a freeway travelling 65 mph with no cars to the front for about 300 feet. On this incident the warning light flashed about t4 times but brakes were not applied. The date listed was the most recent. THe other three were within 3 months of this date.
While using Adaptive Cruise Control, driving down a clear road with no obstacles, vehicles, or road imperfections, the car flashed "BRAKE" on the screen, played an alarm, and moderately hit the brakes as if there were an object in front of the car, which there was not. I pressed the gas pedal and it stopped. If there was a car behind me, there would be a high risk of accident. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or issues.
Recently while driving home in a residential area, i came upon a road construction area. The part of the road being worked on was covered with a steel plate when i got to that area my car suddenly completely stopped and the seat belt snapped tight. Luckily there was no one behind me. Now i am scared to drive this car at all. What if this happens when I’m on the highway?

Traveling at 45mph 4 lane divided road, no traffic in front of me, 1 car behind at reasonable distance. Without warning, automatic brakes slammed on, throwing me forward. Fortunately the car behind me was able to change lanes and pass. This was terrifying. This incident happened around 9:15 am July 31, 2022 on dry sunny roads. I took it to the Honda dealership. They kept the car, did Diagnostics and returned it saying they could not replicate, therefor unable to repair. I have turned off the Automatic Braking System. Its a safety feature I wanted on the vehicle, but am no longer comfortable driving with it on. The technician at Honda said the unwarranted braking would not occur with it off.I have a photo of the billing of $65 but can't seem to download. The consumer added that on another occasion while driving on the highway at 45mph the brake light flashed and the alarm sounded. The automatic braking system is turned off and the consumer was assured by the dealer service department that they would not have an issue with it being turned off.
I was traveling up a rural road on Sunday, August 7 around 1 pm. There was nothing in front of me and the automatic brakes system activated. I was traveling approximately 40 mph at the time. There was no one in front of me or in back of me. There was no damage or incident. I continued home without any issues. I have not taken it to a dealer. I did an internet search and saw that this organization was/is conducting and investigation.
While driving in town going about 45 miles per hour, my 2018 Honda CR-V automatically and fully applied the brakes causing the car to skid to a complete stop. Immediately before braking, the brake alert display and audible alert came on just as it would if there were an obstacle in front of the car. In this case, there was nothing in front of me at all. The car behind me was forced to brake and take evasive action to avoid hitting me. After the stop, the car returned to normal operation. I contacted Honda and they referred me to a dealer. I will schedule an appointment in the next week.
I would like to report an instance of failure of my 2018 Honda CRV EXL automated emergency braking system. I was on Interstate 80 in Indiana traveling west on July 22, 2022. Traveling at 75 mph with no cars ahead of me and suddenly the automated braking system engaged by itself slamming on the brakes. Slowing the car to almost an immediate stop. Throwing myself and my wife forward into our seat belts. Thankfully there were no cars following closely behind ours. I understand there is currently an investigation into this automated braking system. Please add me to the list of concerned consumers. I would expect this failure is causing more accidents than preventing. Thank You [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
2018 Honda CRV with 31,690 miles, while driving home on city arterial at the posted speed of 35 mph, vehicle made a sudden, unexpected hard braking application which was very frightening to myself, the driver and my wife, the passenger. We had just gotten the vehicle back the day before from the dealer after they had replaced the rack & pinion steering box for intermittent sticking or binding during turning. The vehicle had about 10 miles on it since the repair, we where returning from a local errand, I was operating using the foot feed only with no cruise or any other driver assist options turned on, when it made a completely random and hard brake application coming to a near stop. The dash instrument cluster illuminated a large BRAKE warning with a possible audible warning also, but not totally sure on that because of the panic it caused. Fortunately we were traveling in light traffic at the time with no other vehicles following close or near in front to initiate such an automatic brake application. I called the dealer to report the issue immediately after returning home and have another upcoming appointment to have it inspected for this new issue. We have lost complete confidence in the safety of this vehicle and will not drive until after it is inspected and repaired!
The forward collusion warning and “brake” alert have activated several times at random intervals when no vehicles or pedestrians were ahead of me in the roadway.
While driving down a highway exit ramp at about 40 mph, my car suddenly slammed on the brakes for no reason -- on its own -- and came to a complete stop. The road was completely clear in front of me. I was nearly rear-ended by a driver directly behind me, who had to slam on his brakes and swerve to avoid hitting me. A car behind that driver also had to brake sharply. It's very, very lucky that none of us got in a crash. The items in my backseat flew forward and some framed paintings in my front passenger seat flew toward the dashboard, which nearly caused them to shatter -- I threw out my arm to hold them back. My arm was bruised in the process. I drove to the side of the road and parked, totally shaken. I had no idea whether it was safe to drive the car anymore. But I was in the middle of nowhere (near Gold Creek, Montana). There were no services for miles. So I had to get back on the road. This happened at about 5 pm, June 18, 2022. It was sunny. There was no water on the road. The pavement was clear except for a metal plate over a bit of road construction, completely flush with the road. The plate did not pose any hazard at all. I called American Honda when I got back home. A representative told me to take my car to a Honda dealer and get a software update to fix things. But when I called a local Honda dealer, they said there was no software update to fix a CMB issue. They also said it could cost hundreds of dollars to run diagnostics that would likely turn up nothing. So I didn't bring the car in. I did, however, find out that scores of other people have had this same problem. One online complaint described my situation exactly: "The Collision Mitigation Braking System is malfunctioning when driving over metal construction plates. Every time I get close to them, my car slams on the brakes. If anybody were behind me, they would rear-end me. This is very dangerous, as somebody will get hurt soon."

Automatic Emergency Braking - the car abruptly stopped while screaming BRAKE on the dash Although in this particular incident I was driving under 25 mph and there were no vehicles behind me, it could have been a much more serious incident if I was driving on a highway, say. I was pulled out of my seat and almost hit my head to the steering wheel. All loose items in the car pretty much fell to the floor. I have not gone to the dealer to check this out. I looked up the problem on the internet and it seems like model year vehicle is affected by this problem.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH with the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated, the vehicle independently stopped. The contact stated that the Lane Departure Assist feature was inoperable. The contact was informed to manually select Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control for the Collision Mitigation System to work properly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was then taken to several dealers who were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

This has happened several times since I've owned this vehicle, which I purchased new. Yesterday, July 15, 2022, it happened again. I was driving at approximately 50mph and with no other cars or obstacles near me, the BRAKE light flashed as if I should brake because something was in front of me. Each time this has happened, there is no other vehicle in front of me and no obstacle in the road. It's terrifying because I fear if the automatic braking system kicks in at that speed my car will flip.
First incident, after driving over a pothole the car engaged the automatic braking system and came to a sudden stop. Second incident (same day) after driving over an uneven surface on the freeway the car once again engaged the automatic braking system.
EBS (automatic emergency braking system) warning had flashed and sounded briefly and intermittently without breaking in the last several months with No obstruction in front of the car.! One time, a short time ago the car did break briefly on its own. Again with No obstruction in front! Yesterday the vehicle at 45mph broke on its own with the BRAKE warning flashing and warning sounds blaring. Again No vehicles or obstructions near by. Vehicle is going to the dealership tomorrow, July 24,2022 for diagnostic inspection.
The screen of my vehicle shows BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM. I couldn’t turn on my car. It was totally stuck.
Saturday, July 9 while driving on a mountain road the Road Departure, Collision and Braking System alert came on and said not operational. My car shows no recall but apparently Honda is being investigated for this. This is highly dangerous as the car can brake without warning and we could have gone off the road! This is unacceptable!!!

My Honda CRV has experienced "phantom braking" four times now. In each case the automatic emergency braking system activated while I was driving, even though there was no other car or object in my car's path. On two of the occasions, the BRAKE warning appeared but the break system did not engage. More concerning was the other two times when the BRAKE warning appeared and the car actually started to brake for a moment. One of these times, I was on the freeway; it was very disconcerting and potentially dangerous. I mentioned this to the Honda dealer when my car was in for maintenance. They said they had never heard of this issue before. Additionally they said unless they could re-create the issue, there was nothing they could do.
7/8/22: Driving at 20-25mph in a residential neighborhood, no cars were in front of me, the car beeped, the dashboard BRAKE light came on and the car did a hard brake. I did not press on my brakes and there was nothing in front of me to trigger the emergency brakes. Fortunately, nothing was behind me. If something was behind me, I would have most likely been rear ended and my 12 and 13 year old as well as myself would have been injured. My car was inspected on 5/3/22 and as part of that inspection new brakes were installed. Right after the incident, the Maintenance light came on with code B. I already have an appointment scheduled for 8/10 to have the turn signal and brake light fixed. I immediately called to see if I could move up the appointment but they didn’t have any earlier openings. They suggested I just take it to the service center if it occurred again. 7/10/22: About 10 minutes after leaving home, driving about 20-25mph nothing in front of me or behind me, the car beeped, the dashboard BRAKE light came on and the car did a hard brake. AGAIN, no reason for the car’s emergency brake system to engage. I will be taking it to the service center on Monday. I am now afraid to drive this car or take it on any highways or major routes.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle stopped independently with several unknown warning lights flashing on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the failure violently shifted he and his wife forward. No injuries were sustained. The contact also experienced various electrical failures with the liftgate, power windows, and power door locks. The dealer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer but was unable to speak with a representative. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The consumer stated he and his wife was on the interstate while changing lanes, the vehicle stopped abruptly and emergency braking came into play.
On several occasions and even after bring the vehicle to the dealership. The Cr-V will automatically break with no car in front it. I have noticed this on the highway and streets as well. The dealership stated the sensor was dirty, but even after they "cleaned" it, the issue persist. This put me and my wife at risk for an accident since the car behind us does not expect us to brake suddenly for no reason. It also puts us at risk for losing control of the car if we turn and the car is braking. I have tried when these issues occur to override the braking by accelerating and that does not appear to work. This has occurred over 10 times since ownership of the vehicle.
I was driving down a straight 4 lane road, no vehicles around me or in front of me, going 45mph, and my vehicle emergency braked for no reason. It didn’t even give me the normal braking warning on my dash it should, it just braked out of no where. I had my hand on the shift stick and the braking whiplashed and I accidentally hit my car out of Drive into Neutral, and that appeared to stop the emergency braking. As soon as I put the car back in Drive it was like the vehicle hadn’t even emergency braked in the first place.

There have been two situations in which the Forward Collision Warning system has caused my vehicle to brake incorrectly. 1) With Adaptive Cruise Control enabled, on the highway this has happened 4 times in 3 years. This seems to happen when the lane curves to the left. The car will brake unnecessarily. This has happened at different speeds between 50 - 70. I believe that the ACC is sensing the vehicle in the lane to the right of me. The sudden unexpected decrease in speed is a dangerous situation. When this has occurred, I have put my foot on the accelerator to speed as quick as possible. 2) This recently happened driving on a straight upward inclined rural road. The ACC was not on, traveling 35 mph.
At around 6:45pm on June 23, 2022, the emergency braking system activated as I was traveling at about 35 MPH. This occurred without warning and brought the vehicle to nearly a full stop before disengaging. Fortunately, the car behind me was able to stop before hitting me. I've reported this to the dealer and am waiting for a response. I had my seat belt on and was not on the highway, nor in a lot of traffic. This could have been a much more serious event.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH the collision mitigation braking system engaged inadvertently and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The brake warning light was displayed. The contact stated that there were no vehicles in front of the vehicle at the time of the failure. However, there were two vehicles behind the vehicle during the failure. The contact then turned off the engine and restarted the vehicle driving slowly to a secure location. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was a known failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer for an unknown software update. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

I was driving on a clear flat surface street and all of a sudden the brake warning started to flash and then my vehicle shook a little and then automatically stopped. There were no cars in front of me. Fortunately the car behind me was able to swerve to prevent a catastrophic accident. The car behind was a large utility van with metal in the front - he would have completely smashed my car. My son was in the backseat and slightly injured. In the past, this brake warning has come on numerous times without any cars in front but has not stop automatically. This was the first time. I'm scared to drive the car now. We took the car in today for inspection. I heard this has happened for 2018 CRV's.
All warning lights in addition to items checked above keep flashing and associated systems are not working placing me and my passengers in grave danger having become reliant on these systems to keeping safe. Also, the car will not shut downs unless I press the power button twice on hold it down for the car to shut off. Basically every system controlled buy the computer is not working suddenly. Checked the internet and many car owners are facing the same issues. Taking the car to the dealership tomorrow for diagnostics since I gave extended warranty. This is not the first time this has happened and previously it was blamed on a 2 years old battery.

My 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L slammed on brakes for no apparent reason while I was driving down the local city road with all 3 lanes clear ahead. No vehicle or object was in sight ahead for as far as I could see. The AEB (Automatic Emergency Brake) system detected a false positive and applied brake when it should not have as the road ahead was clear. Fortunately there was no vehicle behind me, otherwise they would have likely hit me from behind. The AEB system slammed the brake for a good fraction of a second without any application of force from my end. The gauge cluster repeatedly flashed BRAKE message before applying brake itself for no apparent reason.
The car has automatically braked even if there is no traffic around me. Last week I was going 70 mph with no a car in the road in either direction near me and the ABS light flashed and my car lurched and brakes. The ABS is triggering min 2x a week at this point when it shouldn’t and the dealership is telling me “that’s normal and I don’t understand”
Was driving my 2018 Honda CRV at about 50 mph notice car ahead stopped about 8 car lengths tap brake to slow down brake light start flashing and would not slow down seat belts locked 84 year old mother and myself almost thrown thur windshield and came within inches of of rear ending a stopped truck.
While driving on Interstate 90 in very light traffic, the vehicle suddenly experienced "Phantom Braking". There were no vehicles in front of me and no vehicles next to me, and the cruise control was active. The brakes suddenly applied very hard reducing vehicle's speed significantly. I am not sure what may have activated it as there was no collision danger near me. This has only happened once.

On 6/3/22 a few minutes after I got on the interstate, the brakes automatically did a hard brake with no warning. There was not a vehicle in front of me & no obstacles. It almost caused me an incident, but thankfully the brakes let go & I was able to proceed as normal. No injuries or collision. Vehicle would be available for inspection. There were no safety issues. I have not had vehicle checked out at the dealership yet. No one has inspected my vehicle as of yet. This is the first time this has happened, & it happened suddenly without warning or warning lights.
I was accelerating up a hill and all of the warning lights in the instrument panel came on. I had difficulty gaining speed. I was afraid another vehicle was going to hit me from behind or the car was going to stall.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently started braking. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that she started to pull over however, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an unknown Honda dealer in Las Vegas who was unable to diagnose a failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred 6 months later. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. The contact stated that the failure continued and the vehicle was taken to Sierra Honda of Monrovia (721 E Central Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, (626) 739-2200), who advised the contact to turn off the Collision Mitigation feature each time the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that with the feature disabled, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the experience was frightening because she felt that she would be rear-ended driving on the freeway at high speeds. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised her to take the vehicle to a dealer to be diagnosed for the mechanic to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was taken to the dealer Norm Reeves Honda Superstore West Covina (1840 E Garvey Ave S, West Covina, CA 91791) who test drove the vehicle, however, was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that a case was opened with the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

My car has automatic sensing braking and it has braked on my with absolutely no cars around.
I was driving about 40 mph and all of the sudden my CR-V just stopped my foot was on the gas and my husband and grandchild were scared and wondering what was going on
Driving at freeway speeds with nothing in my path, the automatic braking system engaged with flashing lights, beeping and sudden braking. There was no other vehicle in front of me in line of sight.

As I have been driving on roads which have construction my car has been stopping out of nowhere and saying it was out of the lane, this has almost resulted in near 2 collisions. I fear one day I will actually be hurt or hurt other drivers as sometimes instead of stopping it jolts to the other lane. The camera in the back sometimes pops up on the screen as I’m driving and it makes it incredibly hard to focus on driving.
Today, the Automatic Emergency Braking system on my 2018 Honda CR-V misfired. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk as well as the driver's safety in the car behind me. There was a group of two adults and two children on the sidewalk about ten to twelve feet to the right of the spot where my car suddenly braked. I had slowed the car with the foot brake right before the car suddenly stopped. The car behind me almost hit my car. My phone flew off of the passenger front seat and landed on the floor, and my neck was jarred. I was so stunned and upset that I pulled my car over to the side to let the car behind me pass. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The Automatic Emergency Breaking system has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative or any others. The word BRAKE appeared at the same time the car stopped but not prior. I did not push the brake pedal to stop the car.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving through a construction zone at 15 MPH, the vehicle independently came to an abrupt stop upon approaching a large piece of sheet metal on the roadway. The contact also stated that the brake warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact was able to resume normal driving soon after the failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 34,409.

Approximately 10 times over the past 3 years the Automatic Braking System has engaged the brakes inappropriately. Half of these episodes occurred when no other vehicles were around my vehicle. The others occurred when other vehicles were next to mine but not in front of mine. The most recent episode occurred as I was driving in the right lane on a 3-lane road with no one in front of me. I approached a red light and slowed but the light turned green ahead of me so I continued. As I passed some of the cars that were going about 10mph slower than me, as they had left the light from a complete stop, the car slammed on the brakes and my car came to an almost complete stop in the road. My tires screeched and my children and I were thrown forward due to the violent braking. Cars behind me had to change their trajectory quickly to avoid hitting me. I have taken my car into the dealership on several occasions and asked for this system to be disabled but they said that there was no way to do that without causing damage to other systems. There is a button on the lower left of the steering wheel, not an obvious place, that will disable the system when held down but this is something that has to happen every time I get in the car. There are no lights or reminders that the system is on so it is difficult to remember every time. The safety of me and my passengers as well as everyone on the road around us is at risk every time I drive the car. There were no commonalities to these episodes so there is no rhyme or reason as to when this will happen. Although I would like the dealer to be able to replicate the problem, this entails putting them and the public at risk. I would welcome anyone who would like to inspect the car to ascertain a cause.
All the warning lights come on and the vehicle starts to drive slowly and brakes on its own. This has happened 3 times now. I recently took it to the dealership and they couldn't figure out the problem. They reset something and the lights turned off. Here i am one week later dealing with the same issue. If HONDA cant figure it out who do i turn to. This is a hazardous condition created by this car. It could result in someone being injured or killed. Driving on the freeway when your car applies the brakes for no reason is dangerous. When ALL the warning lights come on its a scary issue that nobody seems to be able to address. This has happened to multiple Honda CRV and HRV owners. It's time to have this problem resolved before I end up dead or injuring or killing someone else.
On multiple occasions, with no vehicle in front of me while traveling approximately 30 to 40 miles an hour the automatic braking system has engaged heavily to an almost immediate stop with no cars pedestrians or anything in front of me. The warning brake light flashes and it came to a very sudden stop almost causing a rear-end collision on one occasion. I have turned off this feature, because I'm afraid of it causing an accident or injury to myself or family.
Automatic AEB brake system comes on and car slows down, on highway doing 65 mph. With no one in front
While driving on a residential street at approximately 25 Mph with no traffic, my 2018 Honda CRV-EX activated a Stage 3 Collision Mitigation Braking System event. The car came to a sudden, complete stop throwing loose items out of the seats. Honda says if the CMBS system determines that a collision is unavoidable, it will continue the visual and audible alerts, and apply strong braking to help mitigate the forces of the collision. This sudden stop could have caused an accident if another car had been following closely behind.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently abruptly stopped. The contact stated that the brake warning light intermittently flashed on the instrument panel while driving. The contact stated that during one failure, the vehicle stopped abruptly and her left shoulder struck the steering column. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled to have a diagnostic test performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

I was driving about 30 mph across several railroad tracks when the car suddenly braked very hard, without my foot on the brake pedal. I saw the orange “BRAKE” sign on the dash, and the car just suddenly slammed on the brakes. Fortunately, no one was behind us. It was scary - if a car had been following us, they could have hit me. I don’t trust this car anymore.
While traveling on Rt 29 in Maryland at normal highway speed, heard a beeping sound and then saw that the emergency brake warning was flashing on the instrument cluster. Beeping and light were active for several seconds. There were no cars within several hundred feet of my vehicle. This is the second time this has happened in the last 60 days.
The contact’s wife owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) engaged inadvertently while there were no vehicles or objects around the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle resumed speed independently. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving at nighttime also. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that no issues were found. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

While traveling on a roadway unoccupied by another vehicle, the Honda's emergency braking system engaged and brought the car to a sudden stop. The roadway was clear and weather was dry and sunny. This incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon. The vehicle was clean with no obstruction around any of the sensors. If there would have been a vehicle traveling close behind, there may have been a rear end collision.
While driving through town at approximately 30-35 mpr the red brake light flashed on and the brakes slammed hard. There was nothing in front of me or approaching from the sides. My child and I were jolted as if in an accident. Luckily the car behind me did not rear end me. I did call and report it to my dealer and have scheduled an appointment for diagnosis. I once had the brake light flash on while on the highway but the brakes only slightly gripped.
The Automatic Emergency Break is applying when no obstacles found and all of a sudden it was stopping. Recent incident is when I was returning from Costco, neither object nor vehicle exists on my road, it was small bridge and is clean out of any obstacles, but suddenly the warning is appeared on the dashboard and Automatic break was applied by vehicle. I was on the speed limit of 15-20 miles/hour and there were no vehicles behind my car otherwise it would be a major accident. Luckily I didn't bring my wife and new born kid (Day's old), else they would hit the driver seat and passenger seat due to this sudden break and I may need to rush to hospital as there is newborn inside the vehicle. And I was totally blank when this was happened. I stopped my vehicle sometime on the shoulder and started later. Earlier to this incident, good no of times, my vehicle was forecasting the warning messages on Dashboard though nothing was there, I thought may be sensor is covering the objects with broader angle but suddenly stopping the vehicle for the first time. As Honda is providing the major safety features, I was purchased this CR-V particularly and thinking I am safe on long drives, but this incident is changed my mindset and now worrying in future if it happens what to do? For a speed limit of 15-20 itself it was trouble me, if it is in a highway with a speed limit of 70, I can't imaging what would have happen? Please take this as a complaint do a investigation as required.

Traveling a city street about twenty to twenty five mph when the vehicle abruptly stopped/braked. It stopped so hard I thought I hit something. The BRAKE warning did not flash before the stop. I think it flashed when the car stopped. I put the car in park, got to see if I did hit something. Nothing. No animals, children, balls etc in front of the vehicle. There was a steel street plate. I do not recall if the vehicle was on top of it or just before it.
Additional info related to complaint number 11454465. While driving on I-74, the car in front of me moved over to the exit ramp then slowed down because there was a sharp curve on the ramp. My brakes engaged unexpectedly but my lane was now clear. I looked down at the dashboard and noticed that my car was still sensing that there was a car in front of me. Then sensor turned off and the brakes released.
Bought car end of November used 10o18 CRV breaks have come on hard without me applying them was in cruise control. Frist time other cars were nearby by not in danger plenty of distance between us. However third time no cars were in front, coming from the front in opposite lane and none to my rear, thank god for set belts!
Driving down road at approximately 30mph, no obstructions in road or vehicles in front of me and the car suddenly slowed down to approximately 10mph due to automatic braking system engaging.
New Jersey: While driving to work (I am a healthcare worker) at 5:30 am on Route 9 North in Manalapan NJ, at a speed of approximately 50 miles per hour, the brake warning light went on and the car unexpectedly slammed to a full stop. No car was immediately behind me or they would have crashed into me. My purse, coffee and book on front seat went flying to the dashboard. Prior to this event happening, the Brake warning light would go off even if no one was in front of me or anywhere around me. the Honda dealership in Freehold NJ dismissed my concern and said there is nothing they can do without recreating the problem. I called the Freehold dealership and was told the service manager was out for a month, no one is covering for him. I asked to speak to someone else in the service department and they told me to drive down and they will have a technician drive with me to see the problem. I told them it was random and never happened before, but to no avail. I asked if I could turn off the Collusion Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and they said no. Just to adjust the ACC (low speed follow) to long. I insisted on being seen today, but am concerned that this will happen again.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the Collision Mitigation Braking System engaged abruptly and the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. The Collision Mitigation Braking System warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle resumed speed independently after the failure. The contact stated that there were no vehicles around the vehicle at the time the failure occurred. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no open recalls associated to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,757.

The automatic braking system engaged without warning and without reason as I was not within close proximity to any other vehicles or obstructions.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while his wife was driving 45 MPH, the brakes applied independently. The contact stated that the Adaptive Cruise Control and the Lane Departure warning lights were illuminated. The driver was able to continue driving to her destination. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

I was driving on lower level on Manhattan Bridge toward Manhattan, New York. It was about 10:30am. The car experienced a hard brake while I was driving with no obvious obstacle ahead or sides. The most closest vehicle was in front, on my right side lane, which had at least 5 car distance.
Vehicle randomly slammed on brakes without driver touching the brake. There were no obstacles or other cars in front of the vehicle at the time. Automatic emergency braking was on. The only warning that came up was the”Brake” warning as the vehicle was slamming on the brakes. Luckily the car behind the vehicle was able to move to another lane to avoid a collision. The vehicle was taken to the Honda dealer and inspected. They were unable to find the cause of the random braking or to reproduce it.
The brake warning system beeped and forcefully applied the brakes when I was driving approximately 30mph. The only "obstacle" was a flat steel plate on the road. Thankfully no one was behind me. Everything in my car slide forward and off the seats due to the force of the braking. I also regularly get the beep warning when I am driving up a steep hill near where I live. Thankfully the brakes do not engage. I never had anything inspected. I also get beeping when backing up with nothing in the way. And recently backed into a truck bumper and there was no beeping. I just assume that the systems are irritating and don't work properly.
Driving on parkway at 50 mph, our vehicle began braking on its own. There was no vehicle in front of our vehicle. This occurred twice in past month.
Was driving yesterday (2018 Honda CRV) and the brakes suddenly engaged and the big orange brake warning light appeared on the dash. We came to a jarring stop. Nothing in front of us, no rain. Luckily, we were only going about 10 mph and no car behind us. This has happened before but didn't result in such a jarring stop. Other times it was on residential streets but also on freeway. In those incidents it was a quick engagement like a brake pump. The big orange warning light came on in all of those instances.
On multiple occasions while driving at highway speeds with the cruise control on the vehicle has slowed down on it's own for no reason. There were no cars immediately in front of me and nothing in the road, but the car just suddenly slowed down. Thankfully there have not been instances of the vehicle braking hard, but is definitely slows abruptly for no reason. This has been noted to happen 3 or 4 times so far in the last month. I took it to the dealership and made them aware of the issue. They were not able to replicate it or find any issues. After I had this happen to me I saw an article on CNN noting that there have been several complaints over this same issue in similar vehicles, so I wanted to make sure it was reported.
will automatically brake at some point on highway, I notice at some part of the highway exact point the brake will automatically trigger.
The automated braking system activation when there was no car in the lane I was traveling in. I pressed on the gas pedal in attempt to override the automated braking system. I don't know if that help but soon enough the braking system release. I was on a freeway in a city and feel lucky to have avoided a collision.
I was driving inside the steel mill where I work at approximately 25mph when the automatic braking light came on and the vehicle came to a sudden stop, hurting my neck and scaring me. There were no other vehicles in sight in front of me or (thankfully) behind me. The only thing I could think of that triggered it was a steel plate that is embedded in the roadway. I have to cross several of them to get to my office and they have not triggered the automatic braking before or since, but I travel about 20 miles each way day on a highway with heavy traffic and a 70mph speed limit. I am extremely concerned that this will happen while traveling at a high rate of speed with a semi truck behind me.
I was driving through a green light at 40mph with no vehicles in front of me or next to me and in the middle of the intersection, my dash flashed with the warning to "brake" as it "detected" something in front of me. Within less than 2 seconds my vehicle lurched to a complete stop with the brakes totally locking up the vehicle. The brakes thudded to stop my vehicle entirely in the middle of the intersection. Within a couple more seconds the vehicle was totally fine and let me proceed. I was lucky I wasn't rear-ended and I'm very glad the light wasn't red by the time I was able to go through it. I was carrying my entire family in the car and everyone was so worried about riding with me that I automatically pulled over and disabled the Automatic Emergency Braking system altogether. I've not turned it back on for fear of the vehicle getting me into an accident. I have also received blind spot warnings with nothing in my blind spots. Most specifically, I was in the right hand lane and put on my turn signal to switch into the left hand lane, and my car audibly beeped and flashed its lights. There was not a vehicle or even a barrier to my left that it could have sensed. The sensor just totally gave out. It's at the point where I do not trust anything about the car. I won't even use cruise control because I don't trust that the car's "safety features" are actually safe enough to protect me. I have not had the vehicle inspected due to the fact that this seems to be an issue with other vehicles and I can't afford a mechanic to tell me there is nothing that they can do.
My car slows down significantly. It feels like I pressed the brake but haven’t. This has happened multiple times. Its disconcerting and I feel like I’m scrambling to make the car go. I think I just press on the gas to make the car go but am not sure this helped or the braking system let go. I believe sometimes I have had cruise on when this happened. The last time I took my car to the dealer I told the mechanic about this occurring and he was confused about what it might be. He did not check anything to evaluate the problem. There were no warning lamps or problems to indicate it was about to happen. I will enter a date below but I don’t know the exact dates it has happened.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH with the cruise control engaged, the brakes were applied inadvertently. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, there was an audible warning buzzer alert. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to 30 MPH. The unknown warning lights then deactivated and the vehicle resumed the preset cruise control speed. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer confirmed to the contact that there were no associated recalls under the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred five times while the cruise control was engaged. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

I have experienced my car braking when it shouldn’t (beeps and says brake but there is no vehicle or obstacle around) but today was scary. I had just left the highway and was going about 30 mph when suddenly the car stopped throwing me and everything in my car forward. The car beeped but the hard brake had already been applied. There wasn’t anything in front of me or in the oncoming lane. Fortunately the car behind me was able to swerve into the other lane. I have never stomped on the brakes as hard as my car stopped. There were no warning lights or symptoms that this was about to happen - just a beep after the fact. I will call Honda tomorrow to see what needs to be replaced. This could have caused a very bad accident and now I’m scared it will happen again.
On multiple occasions since purchasing this certified used vehicle in April 2021, the "brake" warning of the AEB will randomly begin flashing when there are no cars or other obstacles in front of me. On one occasion, while I was traveling over 55mph on a highway, the "brake" warning began flashing and the brakes were engaged by the vehicle causing me to lunge forward into the steering wheel. Thankfully, there was no car immediately behind me that had to use their brakes. The incident occurred quickly and then the car began to accelerate back to the speed I was originally travelling. I reported this to my local Honda dealership, but no report was filed by them and the vehicle was not inspected. I made inquiries after that to find out if and how to disable the AEB since it is faulty. If I forget to disengage the system (it has to be done every time the car is started) the random "brake" flashing continues to occur without reason.
Driving on I95 my brakes unexpectedly engaged automatically while there were no obstuctions in the road ahead of me. I was traveling about 75-80 mph with cruise control activated. This happened to me on about 4 different occasions. Brakes engaged for about 1-2 seconds then released. Problem did not occur more than once on the same trip, nor did it happen every trip.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

2018 Honda CR-V EX, especially in colder weather the forward collision mitigation system will malfunction and phantom brake randomly. When I turn on the active cruise control, sometimes it'll stop working due to the collision mitigation system malfunctioning. There were multiple incidents where it'll start braking in the high way almost causing collisions, and I would have to manually disable the mitigation system.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the forward collision avoidance feature would activate without incident, causing the vehicle to brake independently. The contact stated that a brake warning light would flash on the instrument panel during the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that prior damage to her front bumper had caused the failure despite the bumper being repaired. The dealer recalibrated the front sensor; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Emergency automatic breaking YES YOU MAY COME ANY TIME TO LOOK AT IT fOR NO REASON THE CAR BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE i WAS DRIVING. the car behind me almost hit me. this could have caused damage to cars and injury to people in the cars. This has happened twice, my wife refuses to drive the car. I took it into the dealer and was told there was nothing wrong. The brake light went on then it stopped.
The CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) activated and suddenly locked up my brakes as I started to accelerate the car on the street after being the first car at a standstill at the metro tracks. Two or three seconds after accelerating, just as I had gotten over two sets of tracks, it happened. The car even jerked when it stopped at the somewhat low speed that I was going. No metro train went by at the time and no safety arm had come down while I was at the standstill at the tracks. No metro train lights ever flashed either. I could have easily been rear-ended by the car behind me because there was a long line of cars waiting along with me. I felt very unsafe driving the car to my next stop as I was in a very high --traffic area. This is why I called the dealer immediately and made an appointment for two days later. I felt even more unsafe driving the car back through the same area. It did not happen again upon my return as I went over the tracks. The problem has not happened again because I now know how to turn off the CMBS system every single time I get into the car. I do not want to chance going even a bit faster or being on the freeway and having the car come to a sudden halt. There would most certainly be grave injuries at freeway speeds on such crowded L.A. freeways. I am so afraid of this happening that I must drive without the CMBS from now on. The dealer said that they did code checks and a DTC ? check. On my Honda service papers, they said that the possible cause could be my dash cam position. They drove my car to test it but nothing happened. In fact, I bought my dash cam for this car specifically and have driven with it in the same general position for 3 years and this never happened before. The dealer found that there were no problems with the car. No police nor insurance were ever involved since I luckily did not cause any accidents. I noticed a BRAKE WARNING on the dashboard AFTER the car had stopped by itself.
The Collision Mitigation Braking System is malfunctioning when driving over metal plates. It has happened when I get close to drive straight over the metal plate (at probably 20-25 MPH), my car slams onto the brakes and comes to a complete stop. If anybody were behind me, they would rear-end me. This is very dangerous and needs to be corrected to save lives and property.

I have had multiple incidents when the vehicle has braked when no vehicle of obstruction was in front of me. Many times this has occurred on US 15 south at the overpass of the PA turnpike. A recent incident happened on interstate 83 south where the only thing that I could see for the reason for braking, was the skid marks from a locked up trailer wheels. No vehicles were close to me. It also has happened on a rural road where mud from a farm tractor was on the road. It has also occurred in construction zones. It is quite scary as I have been honked and probably cursed by drivers behind me. I bought this vehicle for it's safety features but wish this feature could be deactivated before being hit from behind or assaulted by an aggressive driver for braking for no reason.
In the time I have owned this car I have experienced phantom braking 3-4 times. The most recent was about a month ago when merging on an ramp entering a highway. NO cars were around me or in front of me but the brake warning flashed several times. It did not actually engage the brakes at this time but about a year ago the same thing happened and the brakes suddenly came on slowing me down. I am concerned about losing control or being rear ended if this occurs.
This is a report (with dash cam footage) I filed with Honda in March 4, 2019, (Case 09395155) and now that I know your office is investigating this same issue I wanted to make sure I sent it to you as well: As I was slowing down to approach a red light my car suddenly beeped and slammed on the brakes to a complete halt. I believe it detected a car that was making a lefthand turn into the lane next to me but there was no danger of it hitting me. The sudden brake lock jolted my passenger and me and we’re lucky neither of us were hurt except for some soreness and that no other car was behind as they would have certainly rear-ended us. This has happened before when I was on the freeway going 50mph a few weeks after I purchased the car, though instead of stopping it just suddenly slowed down; I had thought it misjudged the shadow of an overpass I was driving through as a solid object so disregarded the incident as a fluke until now. I’m worried this will happen again and hurt me or someone else. I was able to get the recording of this most recent incident from my dash camera; see here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=11EYSwjCJtk4TEOBlvyddwJx9xow8PswB Honda's investigators later determined the car acted appropriately, but I think the system really misjudged the situation and could have caused an accident. Since then, I've had a few issues with the automatic brake system enabling for a brief second to slow the car in reaction to nothing — and I'm still nervous this will happen again!
On at least two separate occasions, my car's automatic braking system has activated in the absence of another vehicle or obstacle in front of me. One incident was in Fall 2021, I was driving on a bridge in southern Oklahoma and rounding a slight curve when the car's brakes suddenly pressed hard - startling me and forcing me to quickly react. I put my foot on the brake and slowed while I scanned for any obstacles, but there weren't any. The second event was in December 2021 and occurred on a city street in Arlington, TX. Again, my vehicle braked suddenly while there was nothing close enough to account for needing a hard braking. Fortunately in both cases I was alert and managed to press down on the brake to override and then accelerate, and thus prevented being rear-ended by another car. There have also been a few smaller incidents of this issue, but ones in which I cannot recall specific detail.
The car hard brakes unexpectedly. It has done it on the highway and city streets. It has happened multiple times and has done it randomly since I bought the car new. The date below is the most recent.
Driving down a street at about 30 miles per hour just after a rain event and the sun was now shining. Approached a railroad crossing that had a dip in the road before going over the crossing, when I went through the dip the car auto braked and brought us to a dead stop. Fortunately no one was behind us.
UNKNOWN While driving with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) activated the vehicle will brake even though nothing is in front of the vehicle. We had to depress the CMBS system because it was braking spontaneously while on the highway or side roads. Even though the system is not in use the BRAKE light will flash on the dash while the vehicle is in use even if there is nothing in front of the vehicle.
While driving on the interstate, the automatic braking system has engaged without warning or reason. This occurs both when adaptive cruise control is engaged and when it is not. This occurs when there are no vehicles within at least four car lengths in front of my vehicle. Occasionally there has been a vehicle in a parallel lane that is well within its lane markers and has not entered my lane when this occurs. This has drastically reduced the vehicle's speed in a way that is dangerous not only to myself and my passengers, but also to those in vehicles behind me. There is no warning message regarding a failure with the automatic braking system or any other automated safety features. The car has been regularly maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

I’ve had a dozen or so instances of false forward collision warnings. These have largely been on clear, sunny days with no other vehicles nearby. I’ve also had 3 instances of automatic emergency braking engaging in similar circumstances- no vehicles with 100 feet and clear weather. I’ve reported these to my Honda dealer but they were unable to identify the root cause.

I have had two instances where the automatic braking engaged when there was no traffic that was near me. The scariest was when I was exiting the highway and my car suddenly stopped on the off-ramp. I could have easily been rear ended as there was no reason to stop the vehicle. Luckily no accident or injury occurred. There has been no attempt to have the issue examined or recreated because it has not been a frequent issue. The brake indicator light had illuminated although there was no traffic and then the car stopped. There was no other indication that this would occur.
The vehicle automatically braked without warning. Simultneously the braking notification warning light came on as the vehicle braked. Feared i would be rear ended. The vehicle has not been inspected. The dealer offered diagnostic services but had no guidance from Honda. I thought this was a one-off until I read other owers of this model had the same experience. Dealer was unaware of on-going problem with model and told me to call Honda. Honda told me to register here.
When the Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system is engaged, the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system will engage without cause. The braking primarily occurs in construction zones where traffic is being routed off the main traffic lanes onto shoulders or temporary lanes. The braking increases the risk of a rear end crash. It has occurred numerous times since the vehicle was purchased in Dec of 2018. I rarely used the RDM system anymore. If I do, I disengage it when I drive through construction zones.
Numerous times the automatic braking has applied. Sometimes, only a “brake “ indicator light flashing on the dash. Other times hard braking has occurred. This has typically occurred when passing under a bridge, and the shadow of the roadway above has fooled the car into thinking it is an obstruction in the road. It does not have to be an exceptionally sunny day for this to occur. I have taken the car to the dealer on several occasions and complained about this. They claim that it is from an obstruction on the windshield. This is not true. The windshield was exceptionally clean the last time I took it to the dealer, immediately after one of these instances. I am afraid I’m going to get rear ended, or provoke someone into a road rage, thinking that I brake checked them.
While driving, my vehicle suddenly braked, this has happened at least twice. The first time there was construction and a platform on the road. My vehicle detected it and suddenly forcefully breaked. The second time, a vehicle breaked in front of me, but not completely, my vehicle forcefully breaked and stopped.
I was driving in town going 35 and my brake light went on and the car almost came to a complete stop. Than it released and I applied the gas to continue driving. There were no cars around me. Also was on the interstate and the brake light came on and slowed the car almost to a complete stop. No cars were around.
My vehicle randomly slams on the brakes without the driver touching the brake pedal. My vehicle automatically applies the brakes without any vehicle stopping in front of it or a pedestrian in the vehicle’s path. It happened a couple of times, fortunately, it did not culminate into a crash so far. I took my vehicle to the dealership after these incidents, they explained to me that the sensor was loose. But I am not convinced that they fixed the problem. I am afraid that this may happen in the future unless Honda comes up with a permanent fix. I can deactivate this feature, but once I turn the vehicle off and turn it back on it gets activated again. Please look into this matter seriously before it turns catastrophic. While driving on highway the car suddenly braked without any obstacles in front or on the sides of it. (2/22/2022)
August 6, 2021 at approximately 8:00 am, 2018 Honda CR-V was being driven in right lane of an in-town divided 4-lane road in Des Moines, IA, at approximately 30 mph when the vehicle's automatic braking system slammed on the brakes resulting in a collision with the vehicle following too close behind. The lane was clear for driving, but had previous construction where a large steel plate was placed over an excavated section of the lane, and several cones approximately 3 feet tall were on the side of the road but next to the traveled portion of the lane. The dash cam in the vehicle recorded the incident. The net cost of repairs to our vehicle was $2,735. The front of the following vehicle appeared to have received more extensive damage.
The forward collision sensor basically completely freaked out for no reason at all and when I applied the brakes to try to slow down and get off the road, the anti lock braking system activated and I could not slow the car down. Thankfully I was not near any other cars or obstacles or I would have been involved in an accident. I took the car to the dealer to be checked out and they were not able to replicate the issue. There were no prior warnings or messages before this happened, it was completely random and has happened several times.
SUV braked hard and almost came to complete stop more than 5 times since owning SUV new.
I was driving and my ABS engaged without any one or anything in front of my vehicle. I was traveling at 40mph, suddenly the "BRAKE" visual illuminated on my dashboard and before I even knew what was happening my vehicle came to a complete stop. Thankful no injuries and no one was behind me. I took it to the dealership for inspection, and they said there was nothing they could do to address the 'fluke' issue and that no errors would be found on a diagnostic scan. There wouldn't be any error codes if the SUV's automatic breaking system engaged, because the car must of 'seen something' that caused it to react this way.
I have a 2018 Honda CR-V purchased 12/4/2017. During the fall/winter of 2018, the warning lights and bells came on for apparently no reason and the vehicle would barely move down the road. Turning off the vehicle and restarting it fixed the issue with the vehicle moving however the lights remained on. I took the vehicle in to be checked by the dealer at least twice, but they were unable to find any problem. At this time the only possible solution that I found from searching the problem on google was a possible loose battery connection or low voltage in batter. They reset the computer and it has continued to occur multiple times since then. Once again on Friday, February 4, 2022, I took the vehicle in for a service with the warning lights all on again. They fixed some extended warranty issues which they thought fixed the problem. However, within less than 5 minutes after starting the vehicle all the lights were on again. At this time, I again did a google search for this issue and now I am finding that 4 years later with hundreds of people continuing to have the same problem repeatedly the fix that seems to be the actual solution is to replace the fuel injectors. Yet, Honda is refusing to recognize this as their problem and forcing their customers to foot the bill for this repair that has obviously been an issue since the vehicle was purchased. When all the warning lights are on none of the vehicle safety features work and all the flashing lights and dinging bells are a major driver distraction. Nevermind when start your car and attempt to pull onto the road and the vehicle will not run over 5 miles an hour with the gas pedal to the floor. I had to pull over on the side of the road which was not wide enough for me to get out of the road and turn off my ignition and restart my car. Thankfully it would accelerate at a normal speed afterwards and I was able to get home safely.
10 warning messages appear on the dashboard simultaneously. This has happened about 10 times now and has been viewed by an independent repair shop. The failures involve the breaking system, TPMS, power steering, vehicle stability assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation and road departure. All of the 10 failures occurred when the temperature was below 40 degrees. They all were cleared after warming up in my garage overnight. When the warning messages appear, none of the systems are operational causing major safety concerns. I have a log of each occurrence and a video of the dashboard when the vehicle is started with the failures. Also, I am writing to alert you of this because there are many others who have experienced the same problems as I found after doing some on-line research. Please feel free to contact me about any other details.

I have had my car immediately stop with a hard brake when there isn’t a car in front of me. It has happened four times in the past quarter. The last time was this past week when my car braked suddenly gong 40 miles per hour on a busy street. Luckily there wasn’t a car in front of me or to the back of me. It would have resulted in an accident. The car also did the same thing on I-15 Highway a month ago when my husband was driving. It stopped suddenly with no obstruction or car ahead of him. It was frightening. Luckily there was not car to the back of him or there would have been an accident. I called the dealership and talked to my service advisor. He said there’s nothing they can do unless they can get the problem to replicate. It will be difficult to replicate the issue in a 10-minute look of the car when it happens so intermittently. I am pleading with Honda to take this seriously. There WILL be an accident, death or injury.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the automatic braking system activated randomly which caused the vehicle to brake suddenly. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 44,661.

We were driving across Florida on 1-10 on final leg of a 3-day trip. At 73 miles per hour the center display went crazy. We got in short order an ACC warning and numerous other alarms in the driver information center under the speedometer. This continued for a minute. After slowing down and pulling off the road and shutting down car, the problem went away. The following Wednesday , the center vehicle display in city traffic went crazy beeping and flashing brighter then darker. The brightness setting slider bar came on and would not go away. The radio signal changed channels and volumes. A loud beeping similiar to the verification tone when inputting settings was going off repeatedly. Nothing stopped the above warnings until my wife arrived home and we shut down the engine. The only way to stop all was to shutdown the center display completely

Believe fuel mixing with oil. Information center on car keeps rolling thru system saying things aren't working. Happened initially spring 2021 and again now Oct 20 2021. Changed oil and problem went away. Initially took it to a shop for service and had code P0172 which the air fuel mixture has too much fuel or not enough air. Took to dealer and since service had already done oil change dealer could not find problem. Happened again today Oct 20 2021. At dealer now and did not turn car off so they can see code.
This has happened several times in my vehicle now. On city streets I have had the collision avoidance system activate when there is no obstruction whatever. I was traveling 35-40 mph once and the system slammed the brakes on with with little or no warning. There was NO obstruction ahead and the car behind me nearly rear ended my vehicle. This has literally made me scared to drive my vehicle as it seems to be totally random as where and when it may occur. I sometime get the BRAKE light and audible notification, but again this comes on with NO obstruction ahead of me including other cars.
Driving on a clear day at 9:30 AM no other cars on road the brake warning light and sound came on and the car came to a sudden complete stop. Bags flew off the seat and my seat belt kept me from being thrown forward. I am glad this did not happen on a highway at highway speeds. FYI I have had this happen in the past however it was just a quick blip of the brake and the car did not come to a complete stop.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would automatically brake with the braking warning light illuminating. The contact stated that there are no objects on the road when the failure occurred. The contact stated that there would be a shadow on the roadway or a change on the pavement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there were no error codes and the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer stated that she would need to duplicate the failure on her own. The contact also stated that the lane departure system fails as it attempted to take oversteer turning the vehicle to the left. The contact stated that the steering assist warning was displayed. The dealer was contacted however, the vehicle was not taken in for diagnoses or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and added it to her open case. The contact stated that this was an ongoing issue that the vehicle would either brake or display the automatic braking message. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

On 10-8-21 at approximately 1:00 p.m. my wife and I were driving on a main suburban street at roughly 30 to 35 mph when the brakes suddenly engaged by themselves. I did not have the Cruise Control on at the time. Out of the corner of my eye I think I saw the "BRAKE" message flash on the dashboard display. There was no vehicle in front of us, or any other kind of object. Luckily, the cars behind us were not close enough to cause a collision. Occasionally in the past the "BRAKE" warning light has come on at lower speeds when there didn't seem to be any reason for it. This is obviously a safety issue. I called the Honda dealership where I bought the car to make an appointment to have the problem checked out. The service rep said there is "usually a reason when this happens, such as reflection". He said there are no recalls as a result of this problem.
Our 2018 Honda CR-V SUV EX 2WD is a very good vehicle except we can't rely on it to start. Since buying it new in April, 2018 we have had to have it towed or jump-started six times because the battery has been drained. Many other owners seem to have similar problems; online it has become known as a "parasitic battery drain" problem. There are at least two class-action suits at present we know of concerning the same problem, one In Iowa, and another in Florida. Also on three different occasions we experienced the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems display flashing indicating some features are not working while driving -- for no apparent reason. However, the systems gradually return to normal after the vehicle has been stopped, re-started, and driven again for several miles. We don't know if the two issues are related (see NHTSA Complaint 11361514). Not being able to start in an out of cell-phone area or an unpopulated area is a serious safety concern. Additionally, I carry a portable, battery-powered oxygen concentrator that can't be recharged when the CR-V won't start and the battery is dead. We have records and documentation to support our CRV problems. We are on our third SUV battery - a top-of-the-line from AAA - and have been doing such obvious things as checking our garage nightly to make sure a dome light isn't on, etc. There are no preliminary cues that we have noted such as lights become dimmer, etc. prior to the non-starting times. Four of six times have been during daylight hours. On one occasion we were able to restart the vehicle using a portable lithium battery power pack; on another this booster failed to start the SUV and we had to call AAA. Our "home" Honda service center has sincerely tried but failed to diagnose the problem and neither was the major Honda garage in Albuquerque, NM able to this past summer. Two different complaints with Honda Motors of America remain unanswered as of today. Honda isn't supporting their dealerships.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the collision mitigation sensor was malfunctioning. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Automatic Braking would inadvertently activate without a vehicle in proximity and the vehicle would stop. The contact would depress the brake pedal and then the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would operate as designed. The failure occurred at various speeds. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the failure might be due to dirt covering the sensor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 27,183.

Was driving on a city road on a sunny day with no obstructions in the road (approximately 10:20 AM, 9-26-21) and my car engaged the automatic braking (collision mitigating braking system) briefly for no reason while my foot was on the gas. It disengaged quickly after and luckily the car behind me did not rear-end me. I pulled off the road to disengage the CMBS shortly after. I filed a similar report for my other Honda car, a 2016 Civic (incident report 11366753 in October 2020), and have not heard anything back. At the time I took that to multiple Honda dealers and they all said there was not an issue with the system. I find this to be a huge issue that the braking system will engage with no warning when there is no obstruction in the road. For the last incident, it had to do with a steel plate that was on the road in a construction zone. This time there was nothing whatsoever. The system is supposed to have 3 levels of warning. The first is just a flashed warning on the dash telling you to brake. This happens all the time with our cars, most of the time for no valid reason, however the car does not engage the brakes. The second level is when the brakes start to engage and that appears to be what happened today. The third level is when the car engages the brakes and brings it to a complete stop which is what happened last October to me, causing another car to rear-end me. A quick internet search shows I am certainly not alone in this and I feel this needs to be addressed via a recall or software update.
On September 15, 2021, my car suddenly went into a hard brake for no reason. I was driving on a residential road mid-day, no other cars, people or animals were on or near the road. It braked hard enough to throw me forward. I was going 25 miles an hour. 5 minutes before, I was driving on a busy urban street and 10 minutes before, I was on a freeway. If the braking action had happened earlier, there would have been at least one collision. I have not taken it into Honda yet after this incident because I am leaving town, but will take it in when I return. This same vehicle performed a soft break on a freeway a few months ago. Once again, no other vehicles around I have taken the car into Honda and complained about the braking mitigation warnings coming on for no reason in the past. They told me there is nothing they can do about the automatic safety features malfunctioning. I have tried turning the CMBS off, because of prior problems. The car is available for inspection. The problem with the CMBS malfunctioning started within a few months of purchasing the car.
As we headed down the hill approaching dark metal plates in the road covering a hole, the car braked violently. We were nearly hit from behind because of the Quick stop. My Apple Watch alerted me that I had fallen and asked to call 911. This is the second incidence of this kind since owning this car. The other incident was a year or so ago. Our AEB should not be causing us to nearly have an accident from a rear end collision. We are concerned.
When driving about 25 mph, the dashboard lit up with "Brake", gave a warning sound then the brakes applied automatically very hard. There was nothing in front of me that I needed to brake for. It was frightening for me and the front side passenger that this happened without warning, and we both lurched forward. Luckily we both had seatbelts on. I called the dealer and they said I need to have the sensors adjusted. I declined in that the car is out of the 3 year warranty (only 33k miles) by 2 mos and I would have to pay to have this "safety feature" fixed. I can't figure out how to turn this "feature" off permanently but can push a button upon each start up to turn it off. Disappointed in Honda that they don't address this.
Driving on secondary road. Going approx 30 mph. No vehicle in front or behind. No oncoming traffic in other lane. Car on it's own engaged automatic collison braking system almost throwing me through window. Brought car to dealer. They claim they hooked up to computer and said system was good. Week later driving on highway, every mitigation systems warning lights started flashing on screen indicating they were not working. Also brake system warning light appeared.
WHILE DRIVING AT 5-10 MPH IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FLASHED A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND CAME TO A JARRING STOP. THERE WERE NO OBSTACLES IN THE PATH OF TRAVEL. IT WAS TAKEN TO SCHLOSSMAN HONDA AND NO PROBLEMS COULD BE FOUND. AMERICAN HONDA HAS SINCE ASKED US TO SIGN A CONSENT FORM TO COLLECT THE RADAR AND CAMERA FOR STUDY.

I HAVE SMELLED THIS ODOR SEVERAL TIMES, HOWEVER HONDA SAYS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR JAN. 2020. IT HAD 89K MILES ON IT. I DID NOT THINK THIS NEW CAR WOULD NEED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. SO HONDA WANTS OVER $1100 TO PUT FUEL INJECTORS IN. I HAVE READ ONLINE ABOUT THE MANY ISSUES WITH THE 2017 AND 2018 CRVS. THE DREAM MOTOR IS A PROBLEM AND HONDA KNOWS IT. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE DYING BEFORE ANYONE WILL PAY ME ANY ATTENTION. HONDA SAYS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM THEREFORE I AM ASSUMING IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE, AS I HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR. I AM A NURSE AND TRAVEL ON MY JOB. I HAVE NO CRUISE, LANE KEEP ASSIST, LANE STABILITY OR ANY OF THOSE FEATURES. I DONT KNOW HOW THIS CAR WILL PASS INSPECTION LIKE THIS. PLEASE HELP ME. GOOGLE PROBLEMS WITH 2018 CRV. .....HONDA KNOWS ALL ABOUT IT. I HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM. PLEASE ADVISE IF SEEKING LEGAL COUNSEL WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO ME. THANK YOU.
