While driving my 2019 Honda CR‑V at about 35 mph during night on a local road with no cars or obstacles in front of me, the vehicle suddenly applied the brakes hard by itself. There were no warning lights or messages other than the collision warning, and I did not touch the brake pedal. The sudden braking almost caused the car behind me to rear‑end me. This has happened several times in similar conditions when the Collision Mitigation Braking System / Honda Sensing was on.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the Automatic Emergency Braking System erroneously activated, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the road. During the failure, there were no other vehicles or objects nearby the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated that the failure had previously occurred, and the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Action Number: EA24002 (FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE) and related the failure to the NHTSA Action Number. The failure mileage was 25,000. The VIN was not available.

The car slammed to a complete stop when there was no reason to. I was approaching an intersection slowly and already was applying the brakes. A pedestrian was on my left but not in front of the car. There was a large metal plate on the road. There was construction happening on the road. This is the second time in six months that the car slammed to a stop because of a metal plate on the road.

We were driving on the freeway in nice weather when the cars automatic emergency brake engaged at 75mph. No warning light came on the dash it was without any warning very scary thankfully no other cars where around us.

Oct 7, 2025

On October 7, 2025, I was driving to work. There was a steel metal plate of approximately 1 inch height lying flat on the roadway, presumably to cover up a pothole or other utility work. The steel metal plate was near an intersection where I was to be turning left. I was driving relatively slow as it was almost time to make the left turn, about 15-20 mph. When I was almost upon the steel metal plate my car braked to a complete stop because of the Collision Mitigation Braking System. The intense deceleration has had my back in pain all day, and my neck is slowly starting to hurt as well. I feel like I was in a car accident from how quickly my car came to a stop over what appeared to be the steel plate tripping the CMBS. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety was at risk due to the back and neck pain I am currently experiencing. If a car had been driving behind me, I would have almost certainly been rear ended which could have created further injury. This feature cannot be permanently disabled and needs to be able to be. It's an undue burden on the driver of the car to have to turn it off every time the car starts. I am concerned someone else will drive my car and not know to turn off that feature and they will be injured or in an accident.

I am reporting a severe safety defect involving the engine and fuel injector system that began two months ago at ≈108k miles (now 109k miles). I have not yet taken the vehicle in for service due to the estimated high repair cost of $2,900. It is critical to note that the same underlying problem was subject to a safety recall for the 2017-2018 model years, but the defect was not fixed for my 2019 model year. This indicates a persistent manufacturing or design flaw that warrants an immediate investigation into my model year. The defect manifests regularly, causing a Cylinder 2 Misfire (P0302) and making the engine run very rough with a sudden and severe loss of power. This creates a direct rear-end crash risk due to the inability to maintain a safe operating speed. More dangerously, when the misfire occurs, the vehicle instantly disables critical driver assistance systems—Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist (LKAS)—without any advanced warning. This malfunction is an unreasonable safety risk: CRASH HAZARD: The unprompted power loss and concurrent disabling of safety features create an immediate, dangerous situation. FIRE HAZARD: The persistent misfire strongly suggests a failed or stuck-open fuel injector, which causes fuel dilution of the engine oil. This contamination can lead to engine failure or, critically, a fuel leak onto hot engine components that poses an extreme fire risk. I urge NHTSA to investigate why this defect persists and to mandate a comprehensive recall to protect the public from this ongoing, life-threatening safety risk. The failed component may be available for inspection upon request.

The car just comes to a screeching halt because it detects a collision, even when there is no threat. Happens most often at night when passing a road signage above you.

I have 2 issues with my car - the first one has been ongoing and I should have reported it sooner - when using cruise my car will sometimes brake for no reason, it's as if the car sees something that's not there. The second one just occurred and has only happened once. I was driving on the highway using cruise and I got a message on the dash that said something like cruise control disengaged - the cruise turned off and the gas pedal didn't work so I had to coast to the shoulder. Luckily, I didn't have to cross any lanes of traffic or it could have been extremely dangerous. I plan to contact the dealer as soon as I am done with this submission. I wanted to be able to tell them that I had notified the NHTSA.

Driving under speed limit crossing through a green light at intersection automatic breaking system engaged. This caused rapid slowing throwing driver and things on passenger seat forward. No obstacles, cars or anything were visible or causing any possible accident or problem. The ABS system engaged flashing break warning on dash. This happened a year and a half earlier and on 7/23/2025

Jul 23, 2025

Today: The vehicle flashed the BRAKE warning light and suddenly decelerated/braked. There were no vehicles in front of the car for as far as the eye could see, it is a sunny day with dry conditions, and it was on an open highway that was flat, middle of the day, and the car was traveling 50 MPH. Fortunately, no vehicles were behind me. The BRAKE warning light has flashed on multiple occasions prior, without any trigger whatsoever, but it has only decelerated/braked a couple of times, and today’s was the worst and most jarring.

Jul 14, 2025

The contact owned a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 48-50 MPH, the Collision Mitigation Braking System engaged while there was no other vehicles nearby and the contact sustained whiplash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure could be related to a crack on the passenger's side of the windshield. The vehicle was not repaired and was traded in. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

I’m writing to report a recurring and increasingly dangerous issue with the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) in my vehicle. The problem began shortly after I purchased the car. The system would intermittently flash the word “BRAKE” and apply the brakes without any apparent reason. Initially, this was more of an annoyance, but it has since escalated into a serious safety concern. Most recently, while driving through an intersection with no vehicles in front or behind me, the system suddenly applied the brakes with significant force. This caused everything in the front seat to be thrown to the floor and forced me into the steering wheel. The weather was clear—no rain or sun glare—and there were no visible obstructions. Had there been a vehicle behind me, I believe a rear-end collision would have been likely due to the abrupt deceleration. I have brought the car to the dealership where I purchased it multiple times, but they were unable to replicate the issue and eventually asked me to stop bringing the vehicle in. I then tried a different dealership, but they also refused to investigate further since they couldn’t duplicate the problem. Even after disabling the CMBS system about a year after purchase, the issue has persisted. I’ve since learned that this issue is under investigation, and I want to formally express that I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. I am requesting a resolution to this matter as soon as possible. Please let me know the next steps or if any additional information is needed. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Last week, the collision avoidance braking system activated without being triggered by an actual hazard. I was traveling btw 30 and 40 mph on a straight road, overcast conditions, no pedestrian or oncoming traffic or vehicle in front of me, nor any shadows, or roadworks that could be perceived as a problem. My car flashed the BRAKE sign and immediately braked very hard, car coming to a full stop. LUCKILY no one was behind me, or I'm sure i would have been rear-ended. I was able to continue driving normally right away, but It was very alarming and unsettling to happen with no provocation. This has been reported by others. I disabled the avoidance braking system for the next few days until I could get the car into my local dealer which happened today, 4/29/25. They ran complete diagnostics, could not replicate the problem, confirming the camera and forward radar sensor were working properly. I have never had any warning lights or messages come on prior or since, and the car has otherwise performed very well. Needless to say, I have less confidence in this car now. I was advised to NOT disable the warning/braking system as without it, i could not be protected by it should it be truly needed. This makes me very uncomfortable, but i don't feel there is another choice at this time.

Driving in downtown area, decelerating for stop sign, maybe going 20 mph, when "brake!" illuminated on dash and vehicle abruptly came to a complete stop. It seems the automatic emergency braking system engaged and stopped the vehicle. Seat belt locked and items on seats were thrown to floor. Nothing was in the roadway other than driving over a flat metal road construction plate that was placed in the lane, covering trench work done to the road. Fortunately car behind me had enough room to stop before hitting me. Have driven this route many times including driving over this plate for the last several weeks with no issues until today. I have a sore shoulder and neck from seat belt and jerking motion when car stopped unexpectedly.

3 times now the automatic breaks have activated for no reason. The last time (last thurdsay) was a severe brake and thank god no one was near us cause it would have been a severe accident. We took our car to local honda dealership today and they said they could find nothing wrong). We are very nervous to drive the car as this is a real saftey issue, the car only started doing this recently and we have owned car since 2020.

On 3/25/2025, at 2:45 PM, my car stopped itself completely while driving at 35 mph on Transit Rd. near Sheridan Dr., under clear, dry conditions. No obstacles, no brake input—items on passenger seat flew off, my head jerked forward. Suspect Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) malfunction, per NHTSA EA22-003 (2017-2022 CR-Vs, 278 complaints, 47 crashes, 112 injuries). Vehicle is at Lia Honda for $285 diagnostic, completed 3/26/2025; they found no issues, recommend radar sensor recalibration (~$300 more) but say it ‘cannot guarantee the issue won’t recur’—I told them to wait. Available for inspection. Safety Risk: Sudden stop risked rear-end collision and jerked my head —matches EA22-003 crashes. Not reproduced. Prior inspection with oil change at Lia Honda on 3/21/25—no issues. No manufacturer, police, or insurance inspections. No warning lamps before failure—sudden onset. Honda corporate assigned a case manager on 3/26/2025, contacting me in 24-48 hrs. Request: Investigate—dealer’s inaction and costs are unacceptable.

I was driving 50 mph, "BRAKE" lit up, immediately my car slammed on the brakes while I had my foot on the gas pedal! Cruise control was not on. Nothing was in front of me - no cars, snow, rain, plastic bag, etc. This has happened many times before. I thought it had to do with Automatic Cruise Control, but it's much worse. I told the dealership and taken it in many times & I have written to Honda Regional Customer Svc. What do I do now?

Mar 18, 2025

As I pulled from a stop, into an intersection, the car slammed on the brakes with no warning. Did not see the normal "BRAKE" message as usually appears if you follow to closely for example and there was no car in front of me. It was a quick slam of the brakes, which threw my head forward and down suddenly, then released. I Continued driving and saw no warning lights or indication of a problem on the dashboard. However, when I parked the car and turned the engine off, it would not restart. Only clicked and displayed a continuous series of error messages on the dash including "Electronic Break System Failure" and others. The car would not start. I tried to start it multiple times until the battery eventually ran down. Called tow service and they jump started the car. All error messages reset and did not reappear. I only drove it short distance home and have not driven it since.

Mar 6, 2025

I was traveling on highway going posted speed of 70mph. There were no cars anywhere close to front of vehicle. Car automatically braked HARD, locking the seatbelt and throwing everything in car forward. It was not a "warning" brake it was a ridiculously HARD brake to attempt to stop car. I am shocked and amazed it did not cause accident or flip. As a result of this sudden hard stop, I have having back and neck pain as well as chest and shoulder pain. There was no reason for this to occur, there was nothing in front of the vehicle at all. There were however cars behind that nearly hit me. I may seek medical if back, neck and shoulder continue to hurt.

Feb 18, 2025

This is regarding an incident with my 2019 Honda CRV, on 2/12/2025. Conditions were dry, clean and dark with street lighting at approximately 6:15 pm Pacific time. I was driving northward uphill on a paved street and approximately half way up the hill, my car came to an abrupt stop and shut down. My body was jolted forward and I felt an immediate discomfort in my lower back. There was a car behind me with lights on that did not hit me, but had veered left mid-street, possibly to avoid hitting my car, or may have been in the process of making a parking maneuver. I saw nothing in the roadway that would cause my car to stop. There was no occurrence of a warning light or audible notification of a hazard to me. There were two cars stopped at a stop sign ahead at the top of the street, one was in the right turn lane and the one next to it was headed straight south. My car would not proceed. I had to press the start button to restart the car. I drove up to the top of the hill to the limit line of the stop sign. Both of the cars ahead at the top of the hill across the intersection were still stopped, but proceeded once my car came up the hill to the limit line of the stop sign.

Multiple times the vehicle slammed stopped for no reason nothing around to warrant a stop or anything no real warning before it automatically brakes

on [XXX] I was driving home with my wife & [XXX] baby, in what I would describe as standard wintery mix of weather - rain, but not yet cold enough to be snow. My 2019 CRV EX-L alerts me of the following message: "Some Driver Assist Systems Cannot Operate: Radar Obstructed" As I've had this car for years, I've seen this message pop before, but as I had no plans of using any Driver Assist features, i didn't think anything of it. At roughly [XXX], while driving on the highway, my Honda became 100% unresponsive to me as the driver. It locked the ability to steer the wheel or apply the brakes in any capacity. The vehicle completely usurped driving power & under its own power, began veering off the road at highway speeds. I could only look straight ahead and hope that when we crashed into the upcoming highway divider, my family wouldn't die. To confirm, i tried pumping brakes, holding down the brakes, touching - absolutely nothing worked - they were completely locked. The steering wheel locked as well, we were heading for certain death. This was going what felt for a lifetime, but after probably 5 - 10 seconds, i was able to gain steering control - and turned away from the light post we were destined to hit & was able to get us veered back on the highway. Conditions were wintery, and we swerved alongside another car lanes away. By the grace of God, my car and the other car, only slightly touched side view mirrors. We both pulled over and swapped information, but little actual damage was caused. With all of this said I want to make sure one thing is clear. Honda almost killed my entire family. They put us in danger for absolutely no reason. My Honda CRV overrode every possible human driver action - and had us on a direct path with death. If not for the grace of God - I wouldn't be able to write this message to you. We opened a case with Honda Case #[XXX] where they made me pay for a diagnostics test - however didnt properly inspect the issue imo INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (F

Car automatically brakes when there is no obstacles and sometimes no other vehicles in roadway. Most of the time when approaching a bridge. Usually travelling at speeds above 50. Hasn't been inspected by dealer. This increases risk of rear end collision. The light saying to brake comes on prior to the brakes engaging. This has happened multiple times during ownership of this vehicle (purchased new). Most recent incident was within the last month or so. There is no indication of the cause. There are multiple other issues with this vehicle to include issues with the display screen, door seals, and poor interior, however those do not appear to cause issues of safety at this time.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH on the freeway while depressing the accelerator pedal, the automatic braking system engaged. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that an independent mechanic was contacted. The contact stated that the failure recurred a second time near the residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure of her son. The approximate failure mileage was 34,300.

On [XXX] at [XXX], I was driving down the road - there were no vehicles in front of me. The sky was clear and the sun was bright. There are several trees whose limbs extend high above the roadway causing a shadow to be created beneath them. All of a sudden, the collision avoidance system activated on my car. The "BRAKE" light illuminated, the "chirping" sound associated with the "BRAKE" light activation occurred, and the brakes were instantly applied slowing me from 40 mph to about 15 mph. There was no impediment (vehicles, pedestrians, animals, etc.) in front of my car nor was there a car next to mine in an adjacent lane. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is this: the tree limbs overhead created a "shadow" on the roadway. This "shadow" was of enough contrast in brightness from the roadway, just prior to this incident, that the system concluded there was an obstruction of some type in front of my car. There was not another car behind me for about 100 feet or so, but had they been within the normal distance that driver's follow the car in front of them, I have no doubt the result would have been a rear-end collision. I have had several instances in the past where a contrast in reflected brightness of the roadway surface has activated the "BRAKE" light on my dashboard and the "chirping" sound associated with it. All but one have occurred along a particular stretch of [XXX] just west of [XXX] (specifically, it is on the ramp from southbound [XXX] to westbound [XXX] at about [XXX] ). The car is scheduled to be inspected on Monday, January 27, 2025 by my local Honda dealer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Driving downtown seattle going through an intersection - green light - no pedestrians in walks - no oncoming or opposing traffic at the time. Uphill orientation. Doing about 25 mph. The system did a sudden and hard brake! This is the second time this has happened. First time was in a parking lot at low speed going over a speed bump and the passenger hurt their knee on the dash. It is clearly a problem and a serious hazard to all.

Jan 1, 2025

On 2 occasions in this past year 2024 I have had the emergency brake system completely stop the car suddenly without any cars being in front and behind. Both incidents were at night and both are caused when reflection happens or when I am driving over steel grates. This is a very critical issue as I can get hit from the rear or it can cause harm as the brake system is very fast.

Forward braking system came on while traveling approximately 25 mph with no car in front of me. The system showed flashing braking light then car applied the brakes hard causing me to drop to a very slow speed. I was fortunate to not get rear ended. The braking system intermittently shows lights for no reason but has never applied the brakes before. I brought this to the dealer while it was still under warranty and explained the lights came on for no reason while no car was in front of me and was told it was working properly. This is a huge safety concern that Honda seems to be dismissing. Thank you

A few times, the car has braked suddenly even when there were no cars or people in front of it. The last two instances were particularly dangerous because another car was right behind me, and the car braked hard. My daughter was in the car during these incidents, so I've since turned off the driving assistance feature because I believe it's more dangerous than driving without it. I can say that this has happened more than eight times."

I was driving 40Mph on a two way road, no cars in front of me. I was going straight when all of the sudden my car auto brake activated. Normally I’ll get the warning, where it goes “beep beep” and big orange text that says “BRAKE” pops up but most of the time that happens if there is a car in front of me, and maybe I am coming up on it a little fast. It’s never hit the brakes for me though. And it’s never gave me the brake warning when there is nothing in front of me. So I am driving at 40Mph, clear road, nothing in front of me that should set off the sensor when all of the sudden my car hits the brakes and gives me a huge shock. It was almost immediate, I didn’t even hear the beep beep or see the warning until after the brakes were activated. It only lasted a second or so and then I was able to continue driving but now I’m scared.

Yesterday, my car was working fine. This afternoon October 1, 2024, when I turned on the engine I saw a prompt “CMBS problem” on the screen. Warning signs/lamps lit up as well, 1. Adaptive control cruise problem, Road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem, and auto high beam problem. I have not contacted the dealership about this current issue because I plan to go to the dealership to do my oil change this coming Saturday 10/05/2024. Just an FYI, they still haven’t addressed my recall ( the 2017-22 fuel pump mtr saf recall exp2). At this time, no injury happened, but I am definitely scared of my safety using my car.

Traveling about 45 mph on no weather road. The DMBS system engaged with no warning and hard braked just out of the blue throwing all passengers forward. 3 passengers including an 11 year old child in the backseat fully buckled in thank goodness. There was no reason for the system to engage and the truck behind us thankfully was far enough back that he saw it and went around us carefully. If he had been any closer and not able to go around us due to oncoming traffic he would have hit us. Upon further research after this incident we have found numerous complaints about this issue and feel this warrants immediate attention as this could have caused fatalities. My granddaughter was in the back and it scared all of us to where we were shaking.

The fuel pump allegedly is on recall, but other issues are underlying that Honda is aware of but won't go public. My emergency braking system alerts but there is no car in front of me. The pump stalls the car to where it won't go above 20mph, and the car does not shift gears when it stalls. Honda has no answer my car has been down since 06/2023 it is a one car family, I have wasted and depleted mu funds on a rental car and Honda has no answer for me. My safety was at risk as the car stall and slowed down mid speed on the highway. All the lights appeared on the dashboard.

While coming home from a restaurant, all kinds of warnings were displayed on the screen. Then as I got in front of my house, my brakes and transmission locked up preventing the car from moving. I had it towed to the Honda dealer and after inspection I was told the wires in the harness leading to the rear view mirror were loose and caused the electrical system in my vehicle to malfunction. I had no idea why this happened as neither my wife or I ever touched those wires. I was told the repair would cost $3,650 and would not be covered by the extended warranty I had purchased when I bought the car new. I did go ahead and authorize the repair, but was not happy about it. The service advisor said this had happened before on other Honda vehicles. This is a major safety defect that could cause accidents.

Emergency breaking for no reason. Car shuts down and stalls. Flashing Emission system problem, brake systems problem, brake hold systems problem, Power steering systems problem, vehicle stability assist problem, Hill start assist problem, adaptive cruise control problem, Collision mitigation System problem, Road departure mitigation system, problem. This is continuing to happen after the recall was supposed to be fixed. My car is unsafe to drive.

I was driving the Honda CRV down a main road. There was no traffic in front of me. I was traveling at a rate of 45 or so miles an hour. Without warning, the emergency breaking system activated briefly. There was nothing in front of the vehicle that should’ve caused the system to deploy. This is the only time I have experienced this issue. Fortunately, there were no cars behind me traveling at a close distance. The brake deployed only briefly but it caused the tires to screech. I was able to maintain control of the vehicle.

Jun 28, 2024

The vehicle stopped automatically while driving. The automated braking applied even though there was no vehicle in front. This is scary as it might lead to a fatal incident on highway or when the vehicle on back is close. I reported the incident to American Honda and was expecting to receive courtesy free inspection and repairs needed. But they said as the vehicle is outside of warranty period, I will have to bear the cost of inspection and repair if required which is very disappointing. I believe it's related to ABS malfunction. I researched online and found similar issues reported by others. This is a very concerning as the vehicle came into full stop while driving all of a sudden even though there was no vehicle in front. This incident happened today. My vehicle has around 45k mileage as of today.

I was driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on [XXX] with moderate traffic, going approximately 70 mph. I was traveling in the #1 (left most) lane. I had been using Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for several hours without any problems. ACC started behaving differently: instead of automatically applying the brakes when the vehicle in front slowed down, I had to press the break peddle manually. This happed twice before the car suddenly, unexpectedly, applied full braking force. I had to take emergency action to avoid being hit by the vehicle behind me and quickly move onto the left shoulder. My vehicle completed its stop on the shoulder. A message flashed on the instrument panel (I believe it was related to the brakes), I was too busy getting off the road to read it. After the vehicle stopped, the brakes released, and I was again able to drive. I turned off ACC and re-entered the freeway (with some difficulty, as traffic was moving very fast). We continued our journey to our destination without cruise control activated. There were no further problems. I took my vehicle into the dealer when I returned from our trip. They inspected it and checked for codes. There were no codes. They did a short test drive and had no problems. The said vehicle needed software updates and did them. Updated EBB, EVPS, and updated ACC/CMBS and PGM F/I software. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Warning lights: adaptive cruise control fault. Lane departure fault collision avoidance fault and emissions check engine. Diagnosed fix: fuel injectors malfunctioning. This making the emissions light come on making all the other warning lights to go off. Fixed at a local Honda dealer. Not really a fix less then 24 hours later the same warning lights came back on however now a huge loss of power and loud engine noise when stepping on throttle. Just dropped off at dealer again to be diagnosed again.

While driving about 30 mph on a street with no other vehicles nearby, the braking system suddenly stopped violently and started flashing brake on the dashboard. there were no cars nor nothing in the way that would of caused the vehicle to brake. This caused injury to my neck and shoulders.

Numerous times, I have been driving with absolutely no other vehicles or obstacles surrounding my vehicle, and it would suddenly activate the automatic braking system without warning, leading to a very rapid deceleration from a high rate of speed, almost causing me to crash.

May 4, 2024

I experienced a concerning incident while driving recently, and I would like to bring attention to several issues with my vehicle. Firstly, while turning onto a main street at a speed of 35mph, my vehicle's automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly activated, despite there being no obstruction in front, beside, or behind me. This occurred at a green light as I approached the beginning of the intersection. Additionally, I have been facing multiple problems with my stereo, including glitches, turning off unexpectedly, and the brightness becoming engaged and freezing. I had previously reported these issues to the dealership within the first two years of purchasing my vehicle in 2019. However, the technicians only unplugged and replugged the stereo, assuring me it would be "good." I’m still currently dealing with the problem of the stereo glitches in 2024. Given these concerns, I am worried about the possibility of future issues arising and the potential for a collision due to my vehicle stopping itself randomly while driving. As a responsible driver with a family to consider, I kindly request immediate assistance in resolving these matters. To address the specific questions: 1. The component or system that failed or malfunctioned is the automatic emergency braking system. 2. Yes, the vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. 3. The safety of both myself and others was put at risk due to the sudden activation of the automatic emergency braking system. 4. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. 5. The vehicle and its components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. 6. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure of the automatic emergency braking system.

My wife was the driver, and I was in the front passenger seat. We were going about 35 MPH. Weather was not an issue. All of a sudden, and for no apparent reason, the car emergency braked to an emergency stop. We saw no warning lights on the instrument panel prior to the incident or afterwards. Traffic was light and nothing was nearby. Luckily no one was behind us, and no accident occurred. My wife and I had seat belts on and were not injured. We had our two dogs with us. They were thrown forward but were not injured, though they were scared. They are okay. We took the car to the Honda dealership in Jefferson City, MO. They checked the car and said that a temporary stop of the radar code was stored in the Integrated Driver Support System. They believed most likely a rock had hit the radar assembly and knocked it out of aim. They needed to recalibrate the radar to fix it. They said there was also a leak of the air conditioning and repair should be done at same time as the radar repair because the front bumper and radar had to be removed to perform the repairs. A part had to be ordered, so we had repair done six days later. In the meantime, we disabled the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) feature. The car has now been fixed and appears to be operating properly, with AEB on.

Apr 22, 2024

Traveling about 30mph on a street, the car activated the automatic breaking for no apparent reason. The screen flashed the orange “BREAK” sign at the same time that the car slammed the brakes on (with no prior warning). There were no cars in front, next to, or around me to the sides. There were no people or animals around and the weather was fully clear. The car behind me honked loudly at the sudden breaking of my vehicle. Everything in my car flew forwards (bags falling off the seat into the foot bed). It was very dangerous and I was lucky to avoid being hit from behind. I believe I injured my back and neck from the short stop as well. And my car just went through a full inspection at Firestone two days ago and everything checked out fine. The breaks activated for absolutely no apparent reason.

Our 2019 Honda CRV had all warning lights on and flashing non-stop on the dash. We contacted Honda support and was asked to take car to a Honda dealer for diagnostics. We took the car to a Honda dealer in Huston TX. They found the cause DTC P0301, a internal failure to fuel injectors. We had to pay the dealer cash $$$$. We submitted the all repair documentations to Honda and asked for a reimbursement. Honda Co should have refund this repair cost!! It's so unfair that Honda denied to cover this recall repair just because somehow our car was not in the recall list!

Driving along highway at highway speeds, the automatic braking system indicated 'BRAKE' in the center dash when there was no object in front of me. The vehicle did _not_ auto brake, but that was obviously the next step/possible if it continued to malfunction (actually brake the vehicle).

Apr 17, 2024

I was driving on the highway in Atlanta at approximately average highway speed. I hit the break to avoid a vehicle - I don’t thin the extent of breaking was unusual breaking, but perhaps a bit harder than usual - and then I removed my foot off the break. The problem arose when the break remained engaged after I removed my foot from the break. Cars around me swerved in all directions to avoid hitting me. Eventually, perhaps one to two seconds later, the break disengaged and I was able to control the vehicle. I was alarmed that the break remained engaged after I removed my foot from the break and felt I had no control of the vehicle.

I was driving my car in the city going 40 mph down a 4-lane road. There was no other traffic on the road at that time ahead of me, and the conditions of the roadway were dry with sunny weather. My vehicle's dashboard flashed and indicated automatic emergency breaking a couple of times, and suddenly slammed on the brakes. If the driver behind me had not been paying attention, then they could have rear-ended me causing injuries to the occupants of both vehicles. I was able to keep the vehicle in my lane, but the seatbelt knocked the air out of me due to the abrupt nature of the stop. I called the dealership, and they were not sure what caused it but informed me that I should wait until it does it again before bringing it in to be recalibrated.

CMBS braking malfunction. The car will brake on its own at highway speeds due to thinking you were going to crash when there are no other objects or vehicles in the roadway. Issue has become more frequent and I have found many forums and articles online of people with these issues, but my car Cannot be fixed, the dealer has no idea what to do. i’ve had this issue since my car only had 18,000 miles on it last year. It is going to cause a crash. At times it brakes to the point where I am almost stopped on the highway.

1. CMBS (front collision detection system) has malfunctioned approximately 3-4 times over the past 3 years. 2. While operating the vehicle in different settings, front-collision will incorrectly detect something in front of the car when nothing is there and apply brakes causing the car to stop suddenly and unexpectedly. The first 2 incidents occurred in my parking structure and no one was behind me. The 3rd incident occurred while driving on a surface street in Honolulu, and again no one was ahead or behind me. The final incident occurred today ([XXX] at approximately [XXX] HST). There was no one in front and a car behind me and the CMBS flashed a warning and slammed on the brakes bringing the car to a complete stop. Car behind me was forced to stop to avoid rear-end collision. 3. I took the car in for inspection after the 3rd incident last year (Pacific Honda dealership). Vehicle was inspected, mechanic took the car for a test drive, and was unable to replicate the problem. I was told this happens and car was returned to me. 4. There were no warning lights or messages indicating a problem with the CMBS prior to these events occurring. ON 2 separate occasions, the latest being today 3 March 2024 the automatic braking system has engaged when no obstacle present.

Feb 28, 2024

The Honda Collision Mitigation System (CMBS) engaged incorrectly. I was accelerating from an intersection with no cars in front of me or next to me when the car flashed the “BRAKE” warning and engaged the brakes hard causing the car to come to a nearly full stop from around 25-30 mph. Had there been a car behind me, they would have been at risk of hitting me because of the sudden nature of braking. Fortunately that didn’t happen, but the hard braking did strain my neck. This had not happened before, but in the past, I have noticed the system incorrectly flashing the “BRAKE” message when cars turn right from in front of me. I would make the vehicle available for inspection if asked, and will bring the issue to the dealership’s attention too.

Feb 16, 2024

All of these warning indicator messages pop up on dash: electric parking brake problem, tire pressure monitor problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system problem, hill assist etc. My battery was changed and my system was checked but these lights still come on frequently. This has been going on for over a year.

Vehicle went into crash avoidance mode unexpectedly with no vehicles directly ahead. There was a vehicle beside me in an adjacent lane. I was traveling at about 40mph and had just completed a turn when the BRAKE warning appeared on the dash and the brakes were suddenly applied. The incident lasted for only a few seconds and the controls returned to normal. The problem this caused a sudden decrease in speed. Fortunately there were no cars nearby so I did not have any trouble. While returning home after a stop, the BRAKE warning light momentarily appeared on the dash, but this time the brakes were not applied. This has never happened before. There has been no inspection of the vehicle at this point by anyone. As a footnote. on 23 January, the windshield was replaced by Safelite Auto Glass who recalibrated the camera system as part of the service.

The AEB system has malfunctioned on two occasions while driving the vehicle. Yes, the safety of myself & others was put at risk. The problem has not been confirmed by the dealer, but I plan on contacting the dealership this week to inform them of the issue and get more information on how to fix this problem. There has been no warning messages or other symptoms of the problem before. On both occasions where the AEB system malfunctioned, the dashboard screen lit up and said "brake" even though there was no traffic in front of my vehicle. The first time this happened was about a month ago, and the second occasion happened just yesterday afternoon.

seems like this is an on going issue honda safety systems failing around 30k miles. loss of all systems VSA, RMS, ACC, CMS. prior to all loss, the system would out of the blue activate when there was no cause. system will not reset and all dash warnings are on all started when the front right wheel might have had a slip issue going through a puddle of water. with the large amounts of failures, honda needs to step up and fix these issues as it is now a guaranteed profit maker for their dealers as estimated cost is 1800 dollars, pretty stiff for fixed ss income.

Rear doors will not open when getting out or opening. I changed batteries in key fob, but didn't help. 12/27/23 all lights on dash went black and stayed off for about 5 miles. I've had the brakes stop me and I was thrown forward hard. My main worry is if my electrical system goes out while driving, will my car lock up and cause an accident?

Dec 15, 2023

Tues 12-12-23 about 7:10 am. The sun has risen. No rain or weather issues. No cars were driving in front or behind me. One lane road. Driving about  25 mph. A metal plate for road construction is across the lane. My 2019 CR-V comes to a sudden, complete stop. No warning, just beeps and slams on the brakes. Tires screech and my bags fly off the seat. Thankfully, no one was behind me or I could easily have been rear ended. This has happened to me before, two times before in a different city about 2 years ago. Day time, sunny, there was a metal plate in the lane. I was traveling 30+ mph. Again, the car just suddenly comes to a  complete stop. Same thing happened in the same spot about a week later with a passenger in the car. The second time the car behind me did also have to slam on their brakes and honk, but no accident occured.I did some reading up online and found the existing investigation. I'm horrified to see that this is happening so frequently with these cars and can happen at highway speeds. I'm scared to drive my car because these metal construction plates are such a normal occurance on roads. I have not been to a dealer yet as there appears to be no fix for this yet.

I was driving my 2019 Honda CRV yesterday and it slammed on the brakes to a complete stop all by itself. It shocked me and jerked my head so badly. If I wasn't wearing my seat belt I would have gone through the windshield. If someone was driving behind me, they would have hit me. Please advise on what I should do. There is not a recall but online I saw there were other occurrences like this. This is the first time this has happened since I bought the car new. I have not taken it to the dealer yet. The brake warning light came on as it was braking.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Emergency Automatic Braking feature was activated without any other vehicles being nearby. The brake warning light was illuminated. On another occasion, while driving on the roadway, the feature again activated erroneously. The contact believed that the failure was due to the steel plates on the roadway. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 178,000. The VIN was not available.

These isolated incidents have not been previously reported and no injuries occured.

Earlier this morning, while driving in stop-and-go traffic, I attempted to accelerate once traffic ahead of me had cleared. There was no car, obstruction, etc., in front of my car for at least one car length, if not more. As I accelerated, the CMBS system suddenly kicked in, flashing BRAKE on my dash and applying the brake. My car came to a complete stop. Luckily, the person behind me had started up slowly and did NOT rear end me. I could not say with complete confidence how fast I was going, I had accelerated to maybe 10-20 mph before the issue occurred. I have not seen a dealer or service center since the incident and there was no police or insurance representatives engaged (as thankfully there was no accident).

Nov 1, 2023

Oct 31, 2023

I was driving my car and suddenly the brake system stopped my car.

Oct 28, 2023

Car slams on brakes by itself. Once with large metal plate used for construction. Going about 40-45mph. Another time when someone turned completely and it slammed on the brakes nowhere near a vehicle.

Oct 27, 2023

While driving on the highway (left lane), my car braked itself (while going ~70 mph). The brakes then wouldn’t release for about half a minute. I was very lucky that no one rear ended me, and it was very scary. The sensor has sometimes warned me to brake, even when there isn’t anything in front of me. However, this is the first time the car stopped itself.

The contact stated that when the vehicle veered into a different lane the forward collision did not activate. The collision mitigation warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the was diagnosed that the the collision sensing system was re-calibrated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,000.

Oct 5, 2023

I was driving and randomly , even though there was no imminent danger , the brake warning light flashed across my dashboard and immediately the car automatically slammed down on the brake even though my foot was not on the pedal. Luckily the person behind me did not collide into me. This is the second time it has happened in one week. I take my car to the Honda dealership tomorrow.

Oct 3, 2023

This was a recurrence of the incident that occurred approximately two months ago and was assigned Tracking No. 11536519. Same thing occurred--traveling on paved street in town at 35 mph with no traffic ahead or behind--AEB or Forward Collision Avoidance system engaged for no apparent reason.

Oct 1, 2023

Two issues are going on and have been going on since I have had the vehicle: 1. The car will spontaneously brake HARD when going down the road with no particular reason. It most frequently happens on the highway and it happens sporadically so it is difficult to replicate. I see it often but not all the time when crossing under an overpass or going off on an exit. The amount of brake use varies as well, sometimes just a tap and sometimes quite significant, losing 20-30 mph in seconds. 2. The infotainment system goes on the blink. Often starts with the brightness setting flashing up on the screen when nothing has been touched. Then it will go away, then brightness will blink back up, then the whole screen is useless / frozen or just disappears all together. I have a few videos of this. The ONLY way to get it to work again is by stopping the car, turning it off and restarting it. This obviously is not possible at certain times and can be really difficult to deal with when going through a big city and relying on the map to help you navigate both roads and traffic (like when it happened on the George Washington Bridge in NYC).

Sep 19, 2023

While driving at speed (about 45 mph) in moving traffic. The nearest car in front was a out 4-5 car lengths ahead. Without warning the Auto-Breaking system activated and immediately slammed on the breaks to slow the car losing about 20 mph before I was able to press on the gas to get it going again. I had to accelerate very quickly to avoid being hit from the rear as there was no reason for the car to brake and so no other vehicles on the road were slowing as all traffic was moving together through an intersection. There was a slight bump in the road as there is in intersections of crossing multi lane roads, but nothing that would require a normal slowdown. The weather was clear... no rain or fog or dust etc. This was unsafe for there was no reason for the car to brake. This made it all the more startling. Also it was dangerous because it put me at risk for a rear end impact since again there was nothing to require a breaking action no objects or slowing traffic ahead. There were no specific warnings or issues beforehand as for this system. The car has had its "radar / optical" based systems error message pop up saying the system was inoperative, but this was during rainy driving on somewhat dirty roads, so it was assumed this inop-mode was due to debris on the external sensors ... however as stated during the auto breaking incident it was a clear day with no weather. We have not reported this to the dealer yet but will mention it next service. No outside agencies have inspected the car at this time since we did not get into an accident however that was very possible if someone was not paying attention behind me.

As I was driving the vehicle suddenly braked to a complete stop in the middle of a street as I was crossing railroad tracks. I was at significant risk of being rear-ended as the car came to a complete stop without notice; there’s also risk of being run over by the train as I was stopped in the middle of the train tracks.

Sep 6, 2023 Crash

Vehicles harness leading to auto dimming rear view mirror was defective and a wire split rendering all my braking capability. The ABS system felt like it was reversing the brakes EVERYTIME I stepped on the pedal. I hit my garage door because of this: Honda wanted me to pay to fix the wire because "I had a handicap plate that probably broke the wire" yet I never put my handicap placard on my mirror but rather on my dashboard. My brakes are electronically controlled due to it having an electric brake booster and AEB, radar cruise control and more. I could have been killed. HONDA DIDNT CARE, made me take the car with no brakes.

Sep 2, 2023

Brakes slammed on for no reason. No obstruction in the road. Traveling at 35 mph. Could be very dangerous. Second time this has happened. First time was traveling at 67 mph on interstate. No warning prior to automatic braking.

Sep 1, 2023

On now three separate occasions, the vehicle has suddenly applied emergency braking force during cruising speeds in a residential area. I have noticed the incidents seem to occur when there is plenty of sunlight and high contrasting shadows being cast down on the road ahead. I have brought this up with my local Honda dealer to which they did not show concern and turn me away saying it was just a fluke and ´´should not happen again´´. I have been lucky that there were no cars behind me as they would surely have rear ended me for suddenly braking in the middle of flowing traffic.

Three times the car braked automatically although there was no reason; traffic was consistent and there was no stop sign or stopped/slowing traffic. Several times (more than two/ less than six) the car auto corrected with lane assistance due to either shadows from telephone wires onto the road, or, pavement variations due to construction (on the interstate).

Aug 18, 2023

The vehicle's automatic braking engaged while I was crossing railroad tracks at a crossing. I had stopped prior to the tracks and was accelerating to go over the tracks when three beeps sounded from the dash display and the brakes activated. It stopped my car on the tracks momentarily and I had to accelerate hard to get it to disengage the brakes. There were no vehicles or other objects directly in front of me at the time. There was a train approaching, but it was far enough away to not be a problem. However, it was scary to be stuck on the tracks. I travel this same route 5-days per week for the past three years and this never happened before. It is also the first-time the auto braking system activated when there was no vehicle or object in front of me. The auto braking beeps and brake flashing warning display did activate at the time. I have an appointment to have the car inspected at the local dealership.

While driving my Honda CR-V the braking, steering and GPS started to fail. I noticed the wire from the windshield to the rear-view mirror was hanging lose. the car was almost impossible to stop. Buckeye Honda replaced the wire for $1028.97 I recently became aware that Honda has recalled a number of other models with the same problem. Should the CR-V also be recalled? I am aware of other owners having same problem. This is very dangerous since the brake and steering fail at the same time. I have the work order and receipt from Buckeye Honda however my printer copier is not working.

The automatic braking system on my car continuously breaks for no reason at all. It’s happened probably 7-8 times since buying the vehicle in September 2022. The reason I am filing the complaint is because it did it yesterday to me in the middle of the interstate when nobody was in front of me, and the Adaptive Cruise Control was not on. The car braked in the middle of the interstate causing me to nearly lose control of my vehicle. It happened again today while my husband was drive. This time, there was a car in front of us that had just turned and after the car turned, our car automatically braked after the car in front of us had made their turn. It caused the person behind us to nearly hit us because the car braked so suddenly

Automatic Emergency Braking came on unexpectedly with no obstacles nearby. Was traveling at 35 mph with no cars around. Car decelerated sharply, throwing our dog against back of front seat. Then AEB disengaged with no further incident so far. This was earlier today.

When the fuel injectors go bad or out in the 2019 CRV, the check engine light should just come on. Instead the CRV 2019 CRV all lights come on dashboard disabling all safety systems in the car and makes those safety systems unusable when it should just be alerting you of an engine issue. This could cause accidents with a vehicle, rather than the engine just shutting down. Honda has known about it not fixing not only fuel injector they need to be fixing the electric problem that goes along disabling the safety features. They also need to get fuel injector parts in stock. Also, the fuel injector cause further damage to other parts of the vehicle. It damages spark plugs, oil. Honda should been recalling this issue awhile. We take good care of our vehicle and have up kept this vehicle. This one needs to be fixed properly fixing just the injector not enough they have to fix the issue of the safety features where doesn’t disable the whole car along with new injectors.

I bought a Honda CR-V 2019 with 30,695 miles on 7/22/2022 from an authorized dealer. Vehicle had 1 previous owner and a clean record. At around 50,000 miles the car started to have some computer glitches. Interior lights and radio turning on and off. Interior screen changing randomly and rapidly between functions. Nothing to where I was too concerned. I would turn the car on and off and it would fix itself. I am now at 56,000 miles and on 7/23/23 and my car had every light on the dashboard light up. It had the engine light, brake system, traction, steering ACC and was showing warnings for: Adaptive cruise control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind spot warning, Forward collision warning, Lane departures warning, Lane keeping assistance, Parking collision warning, Rear cross traffic warning. I just received a call from the Honda Mechanic, and they informed me it was the fuel injectors and possible spark plugs. It will cost $1,730.00. They are also going to do a computer update and reset. Why is this problem not under warranty? This car is not that old and I make sure all my maintenance is done.

Jul 24, 2023

while driving the vehicle on multiple occasions, the emergency braking system would abruptly apply the brakes with the driver not applying AND there being NO cars within 500 feet or more of the car. In one case, no other car was on the road. No accidents occured as of yet, but one could easily result. The movement felt like a disfunction given the timing and lack of cars around.

While driving on a 4 lane highway at about 60-65 MPH the automatic brake system activated. There was no apparent reason for the brakes to be applied at that time. There was no car close to me in front of me. it only lasted about a second and only slowed the vehicle down instead of bringing it to a complete stop. The risk to me was if a car had been close behind me I might have been hit from behind. The problem has not occurred since and I have not taken it to a dealer. I noticed the dash light said BRAKE but that occurred during the braking event rather than before it. I had put RainX on my windshield before leaving home and I have questioned if that had any influence on the camera seeing through the windshield. I have applied RainX on the windshield since then but I avoided putting in on the section in front of the camera.

I was driving about 25mph and my car came to a hard brake and stopped completely on its own. I did not have a brake warning light, no cars were too close in front of me. It almost caused the car behind me to rear end me. This is a 2019 Honda CRV with approximately 46,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH with her grandchild in the vehicle, the collision mitigation braking system (CMBS) engaged abruptly, nearly causing a crash. The brake warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that there were no objects or vehicles nearby the vehicle at the time of the failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred on two occasions. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

The vehicle automatically came to a screeching stop at highway speed (50 mph) with no obstructions in the roadway. Our safety and the safety of others was jeopardized because we lost control of the vehicle during the incident. The manufacturers service center is scheduled to look at the vehicle but has no record of any complaints despite thousands of similar complaints recorded online. They do not have a service bulletin to guide them in repair or testing and are unsure of the way to proceed. The ‘Brake’ light came on and flashed prior to the skid. The light is typically deployed when encroaching on another vehicle or obstacle when normally driving.

While exit off MD Rt 50 (exit 22) on the Arris T Allen Blvd, the AEB activated suddenly with both a flashing notification “BRAKE” on the dash and then a strong application of the brakes with no other cars in the vicinity…fortunately there were no cars immediately behind us. We were decelerating from 55 mph with 4 people in the car (all wearing seatbelts) when the incident occurred and the inertial locks on all four seatbelts engaged. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, let up on the gas pedal, and resumed normal driving. There have been previous “false indication” incidents of the flashing AEB “BRAKE” notification with no threat vehicles nearby; this was the first time that emergency braking was activated.

Driving 35 mph in my 2019 CRV EX, and all of a sudden, the brake started braking on its own. There was no warning, and the brake warning light came on several times with the brake braking on and off several times. There were not any objects, cars, or obstructions around. We (friend as passenger) came to a sudden stop when the braking first started up. It felt like major whiplash with jerking like motions. This lasted about 5 seconds and was just shocking. Our chests hurt afterwards, and it felt like the life was taken out of us. I was not using the cruise control/CMBS on at the time, but it was on to use if needed. I called Stirling Honda the next day about the problem and scheduled an appt. to bring the SUV in 6/22/2023. The lady did not seem to be too worried in my opinion. I actually have not been using the cruise control and CMBS at all, and actually have disabled it (turned off). This is a big safety concern, and thank God there was not a car in front of me or in back of me. I cannot imagine being at a higher speed and this happening.

Jun 8, 2023

Driving at 20-25 MPH on Chicago’s LaSalle Street at the Chicago River bridge the automatic braking system engaged stooping the car suddenly with a skid. No brake warning light came on nor chimes sound. It seams as though I needed to shift into park and back into drive to get going again. If someone had been behind me they would have rear ended me. Thought - given the bridge deck is metal grating, May that have set off the system?

Jun 2, 2023

Bought the car in August 2019. After a few days I saw the touchscreen beeping for no reason as if buttons on the screen were pressed. That still happens every 6 months or so. From “time to time “Brake" warnings show for no reason when the road is completely open once in a while (which could be very dangerous if it automatically applied brakes for "emergency"). Over the last 4 years this must have happened 5-6 times. Had a dead battery for no reason in April 2021. AAA jump started and replaced it after the second failure the same day. The same battery problem (for no reason) happened in May 2023. I try my best not to keep any electrical systems running when I stop the engine. If I turn on the electrical (by pressing START twice) to open the windows etc, I immediately turn them off right away because it drains the battery very quickly. That’s exactly what happened in May 2023, the fan drained the battery in just one minute and “brake failure” message showed on the dashboard. Honda service was helpful. They replaced the battery and checked to make sure no drainage. American Honda simply emailed me back that there is no such electrical/battery problems even though I see many complaints online. So I wanted to report it.

Jun 2, 2023

This vehicle has experienced intermittent false alarms where the emergency braking system flashed the Orange “BRAKE” symbol without due cause. This issue has occurred intermittently over the vehicles entire life. For context I purchased this car new and have been the registered and sole operator since its purchase. On 5/25/2023 the emergency braking system fully engaged the brakes without cause, brining my vehicle to a fast and hard stop on top of rail tracks in San Diego CA. No adverse outcomes happened, thankfully. There was no train coming and the vehicle behind me had enough distance and time to maneuver without causing any accidents. It is highly concerning that this software took control and engaged the brakes in a completely unnecessary situation, let alone the fact that this happened on rail tracks and could have resulted in much worse outcomes for myself and others.

Jun 1, 2023

I was driving down a straightaway road, with no cars ahead of me, when suddenly the car flashed the breaking warning on the dashboard and suddenly the cars brakes engaged very harshly. I narrowly missed getting rear-ended by a truck. The brake light warning has erroneously gone off intermittently but I have never had the car automatically and so severely brake.

May 30, 2023

I was the first car in line at a red light. When the light turned green, I removed my foot from the brake and accelerated. I was probably about a car length into the intersection when the BRAKE warning light illuminated and the automatic braking system applied brake. I would describe it as the car slammed on the brakes. There was nothing at all in the intersection which would have caused the brakes to need to be applied. No debris or other vehicles turning. was very startled. I have periodically had this happen in the past but did not make note the details. I will also contact my car dealership. It does give me concern to drive the car and that my safety could be at risk.

May 29, 2023

While driving 55mph on a 2 lane highway the CMBS flashed the orange BRAKE on my car dash multiple times for absolutely no reason applying a slight brake. There was nothing in front of me or near the car to even set this off. Luckily no cars were behind me. I’ll have to be turning this feature off and have it looked at by my private Honda mechanic in a few weeks. This could cause a serious accident and now I’m scared to ever have this feature on!

In stop and go traffic on I-264, Norfolk, Virginia at the top of the Berkely Bridge my car's automatic emergency braking engaged suddenly without warning. I was not close to the car in front of me and did not have my foot on the accelerator. This happened at approximately 3:45 PM. This has never happened before even though I drive in similar situations daily. I will report this to Honda and call my local dealership. From a Google search I found this has happened to other CR-V owners.

We have a 2019 Honda CRV. The car won't start. When we try to start the car, the following things hapen: 1. "Electric Parking Brake Problem" warning signal flashes on the dashboard 2. "Brake System Problem" warning signal flashes on the dashboard 3. "Tire Pressure Low" warning signal flashes on the dashboard 4. "To Start Engine..." light flahes on the dashboard 5. "BRAKE" light remains on 6. More warning lights on the left side of the dashboard remain on 7. Car makes clicking noises. No one has been hurt. The car was at rest in the garage when the problem was discovered. The car is waiting to be towed to the dealer for evaluation and repair. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. Two days prior to the incident, the brakes briefly pulsated for no particular reason while the car was moving. No harm or damage was caused.

Was driving on a residential street at 30 mph. Pavement was dry and clear of any road damage. No vehicle was in front of me, for at least three blocks. My car beeped repeatedly and a BRAKE warning flashed several times, followed by the vehicle automatically braking , hard enough to toss my 50 pound dogs around in the back seats, but not hard enough, long enough to stop the car. After that single application of the brakes, the audio and visual alarms stopped, the car released the brake, and I was able to drive on unimpeded. If this had occurred with another vehicle behind me, or the roads were icy, or if I were traveling at higher speeds, as on a highway, I feel the vehicle might have caused an accident.

When driving my Honda 2019 CRV approximately 35 mph on a busy, multi-lane boulevard, the AEB system flashed 'BRAKE' several times, and spontaneously came to a sudden and complete stop. There were no vehicles in front of me. The truck behind me had to suddenly stop to avoid a rear-end collision. The weather was dry and sunny. This sudden braking happened at least 2 previous times in my neighborhood driving 25 mph or less when approaching the same intersection and stop sign. There were no other cars present in any instance. The weather was also dry and sunny on these days. Today, the vehicle is being towed to a Honda dealership for service.

My daughter and I took the CRT 2019 for service to Mahwah Honda, NJ. On 3/31/2013. I was concerned about the sudden opening of the moonroof that would not close manually. They told me that the unit would cost $2000 to replace and have forced the moonroof closed. The same evening the car started to blink brake light even though there were no vehicles around. The car then jerked to a sudden jolting halt. Luckily the traffic was light or it could have led to a chain collision. I would like the issue to be handled immediately. It is the only car I rely on. The car has over 46,000 miles so it is beyond the manufacturer’s warranties. I disagree. Honda model CRT for 2019 have this safety issue and should address the problem forthwith. I request your help and guidance on this critical safety issue.

Today traveling south after work on 3rd St. near the railroad tracks in Bismarck, North Dakota the brakes applied themselves to a complete stop with an orange BRAKE warning and beeping sound. I was traveling slowly (<20mph) in case the street was icy on the down hill slope to the Front Street traffic light. There was a pickup in front of me, but it was over a full car length away. Thankfully the car behind me was far enough back to not rear end me. We purchased The 2019 Honda CR-V Touring after leasing it for two and one half years for the advanced technology which we enjoyed having. I do not feel safe knowing this could randomly happen again.

The collision mitigation system causes the vehicle to stop suddenly in the middle of the street. This happens when there is nothing in the street and when there is a pot hole cover. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership, but since this happens randomly, they were not able to reproduce the issue. The information screen goes blank and shuts off at random intervals. The first few times I took the vehicle to the dealership for repair, they reset the screen and then eventually they replaced the screen. The issue has continued to

2019 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION.

Mar 9, 2023

On three separate occasions the vehicle has audibly alarmed and showed (“Brake”) on the dash and then violently activated the brakes without my touching the brake pedal at a speed of over 40-50 MPH. This occurred when there was no vehicle or obstacle anywhere near my vehicle. This potentially could have caused a rear end collision if another vehicle had been behind me. I called the local Honda dealer and the service advisor told me he had heard of this happening and he had no solution other than shutting off this system each time I start the vehicle. That is unacceptable to me as this is potentially very dangerous.

2019 HONDA CR-V. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB) AND COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM (CMBS). THE CONSUMER STATED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED AND RANDOMLY SLAMMED ON BRAKES WITHOUT THE DRIVING DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.

I bought the CRV new, and it now has 31,000 miles on it and was never in an accident. On three occasions the breaks engaged without warning. There was no car in front of me and no reason for the breaks to engage. The car went into a fast slowdown form 45MPH to about 10 MPH when the breaks disengaged by themselves, and the car returned to normal. When this happened the Orange BREAK banner in the speedometer window, went on. This is obviously a very hazardous defect. If I were Highway driving, someone would have surely ran into me for stopping so suddenly without any provocation. I read somewhere Honda is aware of this and is investigating it. But I worried about using the car as it may happen at any time without warning,

Vehicle has had phantom braking and accelerations, occurrences of "Christmas tree dashboard" with all system alerts going off - have been intermittent, far between and unsure how to go about presenting to dealership or auto repair due to this - however THIS OCCURRED TODAY AND CAUSED A COLLISION/ ACCIDENT! My looking into the issue online has shown that this is a problem that many others have also had and that NHTSA has opened an investigation into it with honda! AGAIN - MY VEHICLE IS NOW DAMAGED AND I AM INJURED DUE TO THIS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION/ERROR! Today while in slow moving traffic to turn onto interstate, car started having the phantom breaking and jolting forwards out of my control. All of the system failure alerts started going off (I've been able to clear in the past by turning off and turning on car multiple times in a row and on the 5-7th restart they go away) - while slowing moving forward across railroad tracks - the railroad lights and barriers then also started to decend (unexpectedly, as they had just been down shortly before - less than 2 minutes) - I attempted to accelerate forward to clear my vehicle from the tracks and my vehicle jolted forward - despite my own braking, the vehicle's forward collision mitigation also failed and the brakes did not/would not apply hard enough (or as hard as I was applying) in order to prevent collision with vehicle in front of me. I attempted to veer to the left at the last second to avoid any collision - which limited damage to truck in front of me to very minimal, but my car's front right is moderately damaged. ADDITIONALLY - driver airbag deployed despite speed being under 35mph and collision not at a level that warranted airbag deployment - thus ALSO INJURING ME AND CAUSING ADDITIONAL CAR DAMAGE. NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY DUE TO PERSON INJURIES AND VEHICLE IMPAIRMENT!

I have had my cross traffic alert come on at least 5 other times. There was no reason for it to alert. Unfortunately this time it came on while traveling on a 2 lane street going 40mph and jammed my brakes on slowing me down to almost a complete stop. Causing me to lunge forward and hurt my right hand. There was no reason for this to happen. Luckily no one was behind me or I may have been hurt seriously. I am now scared to drive my car. I have made an appointment to take my car in on Monday for repair. I do not want this car anymore and have no confidence in its safety.

I was driving at highway speed on a highway, no other vehicles in front of the car when the automatic emergency braking system suddenly engaged, slamming on the brakes. There was no indication or dash lighting indicating that I should brake, and there were no objects in the road. The vehicle has not yet been inspected and the dealership has informed me that there is no recall for the braking system. Had there been a car directly behind me this would resulted in a collision.

Jan 24, 2023

While driving 45 miles an hour my car braked on its own. Luckily there was no vehicle behind me, in front of me or pulling in from a side road. I was thrown forward and everything on my passenger seat was thrown on the floorboard (purse,etc.). I am taking it to the local dealership, where I purchased it in the morning.

The car beeped and then came to a complete stop, luckily no vehicles were behind me or I would have been involved in a car accident. The LCD screen beeps, turns on and off, brightens appears and go and down. It won’t stop until you turn the car off. It’s happened numerous times. The backseat passenger window went down and wouldn’t go up either by backseat passenger door or driver door, heard clicking by shutting the car off it fixed it.

On December 30, 2022 I was driving my vehicle between the speed of 40-45 MPH through an intersection on a overcast day mid afternoon around 11:30 AM there were no vehicles in front, behind, or either side of me. I was the only vehicle in the intersection. All of a sudden the car did an automatic hard brake. So hard I was lifted off my seat and my head almost hit the steering wheel. The mid of my back from the force back into to my seat has hurt me for a few days after the incident. Luckily there was no one behind me or I'm sure I would have been rear ended due to the hard sudden stop for no reason at all. A few days later after the holidays on January 4, 2023 I called my local Honda Service Department told them about the incident and asked if they needed to inspect my vehicle or anything they could do to fix the system. I was told there is nothing they can do at this time Honda Corporation as a whole has not done any kind of update to the programing or summited any kind of service requirement to correct. He advised for me to turn the function off every time I turn on my vehicle. At this time Honda or no one else has inspected the vehicle and I have continued to turn the function off so it has not reoccurred at this time and I sure hope to never experience it again. There were no warning lamps or messages the day of the incident. Since I have owed the vehicle on multiple occasions I have gotten a "Brake" message pop up on the dash when nothing is in front of me but never has the vehicle did an auto brake like it did on December 30th.

While driving 55-65 MPH on the expressway my vehicles brake system activated, slamming the brakes, without an object or vehicle within my line of sight. The first time it happened, I thought perhaps it incorrectly detected a car where there was a shadow from an overhead bridge. This has happened at least two additional times without warning or issue. As I was driving on the expressway at a high speed, this was a potentially dangerous situation where I could've caused a collision due to randomly braking without warning or expectation. There were zero warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. I receive regular maintenance for my vehicle and always take it to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. My vehicle has been in an accident unrelated to this issue, but this has happened prior to the accident as well as after.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle made a sudden stop without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer adjusted the camera and the ACC/CMBS system was updated. The contact also stated while driving 40 MPH, he noticed the instrument panel light was not illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his destination. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the instrument panel lights illuminated as designed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was unsure of the repair performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 15,000.

While driving on highway MPH 65-75 vehicle will show break sign and give sound warning and auto break with no car in front that would indicate a need for such an event. This has happened more than a few times and each time the vehicle slows quickly enough to jerk your head forward and scare the crap out of not only myself but my children. This even happens when the cruise control is on and set.

I was proceeding straight ahead on a busy city street, crossing a set of railroad tracks, when my car suddenly engaged the brakes without me pressing the brake pedal. Fortunately, the car behind me was not following closely enough to result in an accident. Fortunately, there was not a train approach an intersection with this occurred. There was no warning just suddenly the automatic brakes were completely engaged, bringing my car to a complete stop on the railroad tracks. While the brakes are engaged, the automatic brake engagement, light and audible alert sounded, but there was no advance warning. This automatic brake engagement failure is an incredible safety risk that needs to be amended by the vehicle manufacturer immediately.

Nov 14, 2022

I had just switched lanes to make a right-hand turn onto another street. I was going to brake anyway because I needed to slow down to make the turn, but as I lifted my foot off the gas pedal, the car started beeping and began braking itself. By the time my foot reached the brake pedal, it was already depressed. This wasn’t a huge problem since I was in the process of slowing down anyway, but it still shouldn’t have happened. There were no cars or other obstructions in front of me (either in the lane I had just left or the one I had just gotten into) nor were there any cars or obstructions to either side of me or in the upcoming intersection. We had this same problem a couple months ago where the car braked in the middle of an intersection when there was no car ahead of me. I reported that incident to NHTSA when it happened, and we subsequently took the CRV to our Honda dealership. They said the sensors/camera probably needed to be realigned and charged us to do so. Obviously that didn’t solve the problem since this happened again.

While driving the vehicle over afternoon, the vehicle flashed "BRAKE" on the console and then almost immediately slammed on the brakes without any need to. There were no cars in front of me. The metal plate that was on the road due to road maintenance appeared to have set it off. This was not the first time the car's automatic emergency braking system would warn me of nothing. Unfortunately still, it slammed on the brakes this time and could have caused an accident should there of been anyone behind me.

My car recently applied its breaks automatically for no reason as I drove through an intersection with a traffic light. Fortunately nobody was behind me at the time or it probably would have resulted in a collision. We contacted the Honda dealer through which we bought the car, and they said that this is known issue without a fix. I have owned the vehicle for a year and this is the first time that it has applied the breaks automatically, although I have had about 3-4 other incidents where the brake warning light on the dashboard and beeping noise that typically warns you that you are about to hit a vehicle in front of you has falsely gone off. Each time this has happened, as well as the time the car falsely applied the automatic breaks, I have been passing through a green light at an intersection.

Oct 14, 2022

My vehicle activates the automatic braking system when there is no car or other object in front of me. This has happened several times since I have owned the car. The most recent times it malfunctioned were (1) when I was approaching a train track and (2) when I was approaching a large metal plate on the road covering up a hole in the road. It gives no warning and slams on the brakes. This is very dangerous as I am afraid of being rear-ended. I consulted my service representative at the Wolfchase Honda dealership and was told that "the system is functioning as intended". I do not believe that. There is clearly something wrong with the sensor. He claimed that the sensor was just very sensitive and there was no way to adjust it. A different representative at the same dealership claimed to have never heard of this happening. I also do not believe that. This needs to be the subject of a recall.

Unexplained auto braking. 1st incident Summer 2021. Was approaching intersection with a stop sign with no vehicles behind or in front of my CRV. There was 2 construction metal poles on each side of the intersection. As I approached the cars brake warning light on dash flashed. I tapped brakes to slow down released the brakes and the light returned and car suddenly braked hard before I got to stop sign. Was only going about 15 mph but braking was hard enough to throw me forward in the seat and was caught by the seatbelt. There was nothing in front of the vehicle. Happened again 2 days ago Sept. 2022. Driving on highway at daytime no vehicles in front or rear of my CRV. Brake light started flashing to hit brakes. I applied brakes, but there was nothing in front of me. Because I continued braking the auto brake did not engage this time. Talked to local Hinda dealer was told they have not heard of any issues. If it happened again they recommended getting car inspected. Also have had intermittent issues with radio display suddenly starting to dim and change brightness on its own going from black to bright repeatedly with audible beeping. Was driving car everytime this happened. Happened multiple times over last 2 yrs. Only way to stop it is to stop vehicle, turn it off and then restart it.

Sep 18, 2022

I was going through an intersection. There were no cars, people, animals, or other objects immediately in front of me. Suddenly, the automatic braking system warning light came on, the alarm sounded, and the car braked out of nowhere. There was a car following closely behind me, but thankfully it did not hit me. After the car braked on its own, I was able to keep going, and made it home a minute later. We have had the automatic braking work properly in the past, but this is the first time it has braked when there hasn’t been any reason to. It was terrifying to have it happen, and I’m thankful that it happened at low speeds and didn’t cause a collision.

Sep 15, 2022

My brake mitigation system keeps lighting up intermittently when there is nothing in front of my vehicle. This past time that it happened, my car actually stopped suddenly automatically when the brake light came on. I was traveling at about 35mph when it happened. Luckily nobody was behind me. My small dog was in the passenger seat and was thrown into the dash board and thankfully not injured. I called my Honda dealer and they had me bring my car in but the problem wouldn’t duplicate during their inspection. This seems very dangerous and it makes me nervous all the time while driving now wondering if it will happen again.

Sep 6, 2022

My automatic braking system deployed unexpectedly while my foot was on the accelerator. I was driving my mother and accelerating to the posted speed of 50 mph with no car in front of me. Suddenly the "BRAKE" warning light came on the dashboard, as though I was coming too close to something, and the car started braking. My mother and I were suddenly leaning sharply forward and I was afraid the car on our tail would hit us. I had to turn into a driveway quickly. I have not taken the car to a dealer or service center yet. No one has inspected the vehicle.

Earlier today my brake warning light suddenly came on and my 2019 CRV suddenly slowed down. No cars were nearby on the street. I was driving just under the 40 MPH speed limit. This could have been a problem if a vehicle was behind me. A few hours later on the freeway my brake light suddenly came on again. I was driving just under the 65 MPH speed limit. No cars were nearby on the freeway. This time the car didn’t slow down.

Aug 27, 2022

On Thursday, 8/25/2022, I was at a red light and when it turned green the vehicle ahead of me proceeded, I began moving when suddenly the automatic emergency braking system activated for no reason as the car ahead of me at that point was at least 4-5 car lengths and there was no oncoming traffic. Aside from startling me, the car behind me almost rearended me. The brakes activated, my foot was not on the brake pedal, and the warning light flashed on the dash along with the warning beeps. At that point I put my foot on the brake and the deactivated. I reported this issue to the dealer and they had me bring the car in and determined that it was caused by a low voltage in the battery, the car it 3 years old and only has 13,979 miles on it. The dealer replaced the battery but I wonder if I will experience this issue again in the future. I have to wonder why a battery would go soon, the car was purchased new, and why a low battery would cause an issue like this that could cause an accident. If this happened on the highway it could have resulted in a serious accident.

1) The following has occurred 5 separate times on 5 separate days: I was driving on a 2-lane road on 4 occasions going anywhere from 25mph to 35mph, and on a 5-lane freeway on 1 occasion going 65mph. My brakes suddenly engaged and my car came to a full stop. The "BRAKE" notification flashed on my dashboard continuously for 30 seconds to 60 seconds. I was unable to steer car for another 1-2 minutes after. Each time it felt like a slam and my body was physically moved in whiplash mode. All items in my car flew around. Each time this occurred there was not another vehicle, object or person in front of me nor beside me. However there were cars behind me. On 3 of those instances, the cars behind me swerved. On all 5 instances I was shaken to my core. I did not want to drive for a day or two after. I have been terrified ever since. I could have been killed each of those times. My son could have been killed or severely injured on 2 of those occasions he was in the passenger's seat. The other drivers who had to swerve violently to get around my car could have also been killed or severely injured. Each of those times the dashboard has lit up every single icon. I have been told I have to pay to have this problem checked out. I do not have the means for this. I purchased my vehicle brand new off the lot. This is unacceptable and honestly terrifying, both for the risk of death and injury, and financially. 2)Electric Parking Brake Problem- my car refuses to start after this event.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) engaged and the vehicle decelerated inadvertently. However, there were no other vehicles or objects around. The brake assist warning light was illuminated. The contact stated the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and it seemed like the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) was pulling the vehicle to the left each time it engaged. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

When driving on a main road at about 45 mph, the automated braking system slammed on the brakes, slowing me down to 20mph. At this time, my foot was already on the brake as I was going through an intersection so I was slowing down. There was nothing in front of me. This happened on 8/20/2022. Thankfully there was no car behind me, otherwise I would have been rear-ended. On several other occasions, the automatic brake warning has gone off when there is no obstruction in front of the car, but this was the first time the brakes actually slowed the car down significantly.

On or about August 8th 2022, while traveling on Rt. 561 (Haddonfield- Berlin Rd. driving my 2019 CR-V my automatic brakes engaged erroneously. My son was with me in the front passenger seat when the brakes automatically engaged. This occurred while we were approaching Laurel Rd in one of two dedicated left turn lanes. There were no cars around me at that time. The driver’s side tires did track over the painted hashed yellow median stripping briefly. It’s a wide open area. It was not a harsh break but it jolted the car. I did not notice any signals on the dash and no sound of alarm was heard. This is the first time this has occurred. I understand that the NHSTA is investigating similar reports. Weather was clear and sun was out. I am scheduling a visit to the dealer, Burn’s Honda of Cherry Hill.

I was driving our car on a suburban side street, maybe going 15 MPH, and all of a sudden the car just completely to an abrupt stop and we were all jerked backwards. The dashboard displayed a rectangle that said BRAKE in all caps, which I'd never seen before. There was absolutely nothing in front of us or in our way. No dog, no person, nothing. It was like someone had pulled an emergency brake and stopped the car out of nowhere. We were OK, though my son in the backseat said the seatbelt pushed against his neck. It was really scary and unsettling.

2019 Honda CRV, 37,000 miles. Vehicle applied the Automatic Emergency Braking system while it was IN MOTION at about 30-35 mph. No one was behind me; thankfully, but this could have been a SERIOUS ISSUE if someone was. I drive two small children in this vehicle on a daily basis. I was stunned and scared when the brakes engaged with no warning at such a speed with no obstructions in sight. This was a down hill straight road and no cars parked on either side of the road. Upon googling the issue, I came across the information that this was not a random fluke, but a known safety issues with my year, make and model. I have reported this incident to the dealership (Brandfon Honda, Branford, Connecticut) to Honda Motor Corporation headquarters and here to the NHTSA. I am hoping for a swift review and resolution of this issue. Honda CR-V's and Accords are a very common vehicles so this issue affects a great number of people all over the world.

While getting off highway, traveling about 40mph, sudden severe braking, enough to force me forward in seat. Momentarily and then gone. Could have made me lose control and cause an accident.

Jul 13, 2022

7-12-22 I was driving on I-70 east in Maryland--3 lanes. Car ahead of me was at least 6 lengths ahead. My BRAKE light flashed on my dashboard, and then the brakes were applied by the system. I was thrown forward in my seat and a car almost hit me from behind. I called dealership and they will look at system next week.

On multiple occasions I have received a notice to brake, but there is nothing in front of me. It's even started to break a couple times. When these incidents happen, there was nothing in front of me. It was a clear lane... This has happened while adaptive cruise control is on and when it is off.

Jul 4, 2022

Incident happened on 7/2/2022 at approximately 9:45 pm. I was driving on a 3 lane street with light traffic. Speed approximately 40mph and no vehicles in front of me when my car suddenly had the automatic braking system stop the car. All 4 passengers jolted forward and fortunately no injuries as well as no car behind to cause a collision. I feel this is extremely dangerous and could have caused a major accident or injuries. Planning to bring car in to dealership for further evaluation as well

Jul 2, 2022

I was driving at approx 20 miles per hour and the automatic braking system activated and the car came to an immediate stop. Luckily the car behind me was at a sufficient distance - or this would have been a rear end collision. This was extremely frightening and I found it difficult to drive the rest of the way home. I took side roads instead of the highway. This is a very terrifying incident that could potentially have resulted in a serious accident to myself, my passengers and others. My lease ends in December 2022 but I don't feel I can ever safely drive this car again.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Emergency Automatic Braking erroneously activated and applied the brake, causing the vehicle to abruptly decelerate. During the failure, there were no vehicles or objects nearby to cause the system to become activated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,630.

The Automatic Emergency Braking System failed. I was driving and the car automatically braked to a complete stop on its own. No "bRAKE" light came on before, the car just braked on its own, no warning. Luckily there was no car behind me this is a street people usually drive 60 on!!! Everything flew off my seats and it hurt my entire body

Jun 29, 2022

We were driving on the interstate in Las Vegas with no cars in front of us for at least 300 ft when the Automatic Emergency Braking engaged fully. Scared us to death but luckily we did not get rear ended.

Jun 28, 2022

While driving the emergency brake system activates and brings my car to a complete stop. It happens intermittently. The most recent was during a trip the week of June 6,2022-it occurred approximately three times on our way home. Fortunately I saw the brake light flash and tapped the brake to avoid it from coming to a complete halt. We were traveling about 60mph! I even pulled off the road and turned the car off and back on again to see if that would help! Additionally I had to turn the lane keep assist off because it malfunctioned a few weeks ago-it kept trying to pull my car outside of the lane I was in-it acted as though I was drifting out of my lane. I almost lost control of the car.

Jun 27, 2022 Crash

On June 17, 2022 I had front end collision. I was stopped at a traffic light and went to move up closer to the car in front of me. When I touched the accelerator my accelerated very quickly in and removed my foot from the pedal. The engine continued to rev even though my foot was on the break. I was not seriously injured. The car that I hit had 2 people in it and they looked ok at the scene. I think they are being evaluated for injuries. I am waiting to take it to Progressive Insurance Network collision center. But they don’t seem to be interested in anything but body work.

Car applied brakes without warning in 2020 while driving on the freeway

Jun 24, 2022

The automatic braking system came on for no reason while I was driving on the highway T 65MPH.

Jun 24, 2022

I was driving slowly (25 mph) through an intersection when the car suddenly beeped and flashed "BRAKE" and slammed on my brakes. Another car almost hit me as he was not expecting me to stop in the middle of the intersection. All of my things inside the car flew around and the abrupt stop hurt me and my daughter in the back seat.

Jun 20, 2022

Out of nowhere all the warning lights on dash board came on and the parking break was automatically applied. Fortunately I was not driving at the time.

Jun 20, 2022

Automatic emergency braking engaged when there was nothing in front to brake for. This has happened 8 - 10 times in the last two years. The car is available. Sudden braking with nothing to brake for startles me but no injuries. I contacted the dealership but they have not checked the vehicle. No one has inspected the vehicle. When the automatic braking engaged the "braking" light came on as brakes engaged but no warnings prior to it engaging for no reason.

Jun 17, 2022

ON June 14, 2022 my 2019 Honda CRV slammed on the brakes without me touching the brake pedal. My vehicle is available for inspection if needed My safety was at risk because I was thrown forward violently. My safety and the safety of others were at risk because if there had been a car behind me, they would have hit me. I have not taken it to a service center yet. I have not had time. There were no warnings. I was going about 30 mph, I do not believe the BRAKE warning sign alighted but I can't say for sure because I was being jolted forward. There was no one around me on the road and luckily no one behind me. I read the Feb 24, 2022 CNN Business article “Random braking in Honda Accord and CR-V under investigation” and found this is exactly what happened to me. Please let me know if there are any updates you can share or if Honda is doing anything to alleviate the problem.

ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON DASH, BRAKES, POWERS STEERING , CRUISE CONTROL ANTI LOCK BRAKES ,LANE DEPARTURE ECT. THIS HAPPEN ON THE WAY TO WORK SHUT OFF CAR TWO DAYS REMAINED ON. ON THE WAY HOME LIGHTS WENT OUT. WAS TOLD TO BRING CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS. MADE APP AND AWAY IT WENT, APON ARRIVING TO DEALER , I EXPLANIED THATTHE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 150 DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSTICS. TOLD THEM I WAS UNDER WARRANTY WITH FULL COVERAGE, DIDNT MATTER. THEY ASKED IF CAR WAS RUNNING OK AND I REPLY YES. BUT ALITTLE CONCERNING TO HAVE ALL LIGHTS FLASHING AT SAME TIME. NEEDLESS TO SAY ONCE AGAIN LIGHTS CAME ON A MONTH LATER SAME THING WITH DEALER MAKE APPOINTMENT. I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR HONDA IT WAS HAPPENING TO THERE 2017. PLEASE CHECK INTO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WARNING LIGHTS.

In two instances, while driving in the city street (cloudy day, daytime) around 30 miles per hour, the car suddenly went into emergency breaking with no obvious reason. The breaking light flashing in the dashboard. No car in front at all. The car almost went to total stop. The system went back to normal less than a sec later. Everything was normal before it happened. I was lucky because no car was behind me when this happened. Did not take to dealer.

Automatic emergency braking glitch. Car suddenly stopped with nothing in front and without driver's control. The car behind us narrowly avoided a rear ending collision.

Jun 9, 2022

While driving on the highway at approximately 50MPH my 2019 Honda CR-V suddenly braked hard on its own, with no vehicle in front of me. Luckily there was no one behind me either or it would have likely caused me to be rear ended. It was a frightening experience, also causing neck pain for a few days afterwards. I reported the issue to Honda.

Jun 8, 2022

I was driving at 35 mph on a city road. All of a sudden, I heard several beeps and saw a brake signal on the car incident panel come up. My CRV braked automatically and slowed to 25 mph. There was no car behind me, thank goodness. The brakes released and then the CRV drove as normal. There was no indication before the braking system engaged that this incidence would occur except for the beeps. There was no reason for my CRV to engage the emergency braking system. There was not a car in front of me or any other obstruction that would cause the automatic braking system to engage. It was a scary experience.

Jun 6, 2022

Car has stopped twice with no cars or objects in view. Would have been hit from the rear if other cars were close.

Jun 6, 2022

Automatic Emergency Braking system engaging without warning when no obstacle is in front of car. Very sudden, aggressive automatic braking puts my safety and that of other vehicles/drivers at risk of collision (rear-ending me). This has happened three times in the past week. I called dealer and they professed to have no knowledge of the problem. I am hesitant to bring the vehicle in for a “fishing expedition” if a repair shop doesn’t know what the problem is and definitely how to fix it.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while driving at highway speeds, the Collision Mitigation Braking system activated inadvertently as a brake warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

While operating vehicle at roughly 35-40 mph automatic braking system engaged for no reason. There was no one in front of me and thankfully no one behind me or I could have been struck from behind. My car also will not start now due to a message saying brake system problem. Will start if jumped but then will not start again.

May 5, 2022

While driving on expressway at posted speed of 70 mph, while there was no vehicle in front of me, my car went into emergency brake mode. This has happened several times but most commonly on expressways.

May 5, 2022

I was driving at about 10:30 PM in downtown Chicago (the bridge over the river on Madison St) on May 4th when my automatic emergency braking system engaged. There were no cars or people in front of me on the street, nor was there any other object that I was in danger of hitting. I was driving at approximately the speed limit. There was a car behind me but luckily they were far enough back that when I pressed the foot brake and turned on my hazards, they were able to go around .

May 2, 2022

The Automatic Emergency Braking engaged for no reason .

Apr 26, 2022

I was driving down the street when the brake warning light flashed and the car suddenly slammed on the brakes. There was nothing in front of the car that would have caused the brake warning to flash or the car to brake. Luckily there were no other cars around, however, if I was traveling faster or on a busy street it could have been a very different outcome.

Afternoon of 4/21/22, I was stopped at light and brake hold activated without being touched. 20 minutes later I was again stopped at a light and parking brake engaged and vehicle would not move until I disengaged brake. This is the 1st time this has happened and vehicle has not been inspected since incident. Brake warning light has flashed to BRAKE Several times when approaching an overpass ( this has occurred many times over the last year ).

Apr 21, 2022 Crash

I was driving into a parking lot behind my store, as I approached my parking space going roughly around 5-7mph the brakes engaged by itself for a brief second (as if i had slammed on the brake pedal and let go) leading me to lose control and hit the wall/back door of my store. All warning lights are now on, damaged the front bumper and I'm guessing the radar sensor in the front. Called my insurance to try to file a claim, if not covered will try to contact the dealership.

Apr 14, 2022

While driving on the interstate highway at about 70 mph, with the adaptive cruise control activated, the "BRAKE" warning flashed and the brakes were applied, causing the car to slow about 10-15 mph. I manually applied gas to resume speed, and then re-activated the adaptive cruise control. The weather was sunny, about 80 degrees. There were no cars, or anything, in front or behind me for at least a half mile. There was nothing next to me on the berms. I don't recall if any cars were approaching in the opposite direction. This has occurred at least twice since, once on the interstate and once at about 35 mph on a non-interstate highway. The conditions were similar in each case. This could certainly cause a disastrous accident if there were more traffic. Since this happened somewhat rarely, I have not brought it to the attention of the dealer. I still own and drive this car.

Apr 14, 2022

I was driving on a city street at around 30 mpr with no cars in front or behind me when my CRV came to sudden jerking stop and then continued forward. It was so abrupt that my head snapped forward and I slid toward the steering wheel. Luckily, no one was behind me otherwise, I would have been rear ended. This has created a great fear in driving my CRV. I still intend to contact the dealership and report directly to Honda.

The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available

Apr 7, 2022

Multiple times, while driving, the automatic braking system engaged when there were no cars or obstacles ahead of me. Most recently I was accelerating, and the brakes slammed on throwing me rapidly forward. The car behind me was driving the same speed nearly rear ended me.

Apr 6, 2022

Auto Braking System - Yesterday at night while driving at 45mph the Auto Braking System activated by itself inspite of no obstacles anywhere near me and the vehicle came to a complete standstill in the middle of the highway. I was lucky there was no vehicle behind me else I was for sure going to be rear ended. Lane Keeping Assistance System - The Lane keeping assistance activates itself even though it has been turned off. The vehicle forces me to stay in lane many times when there is a change in traffic pattern and also when you cross over a line just to stay safe from a vehicle that is crossing over a line on one of your sides. This is dangerous.

Apr 1, 2022

The Automatic Emergency Braking System brakes the car to a complete stop when there is no reason or no obstacle in the way. This has happened on two occasions. Once in Alameda, CA while on a connector bridge to the island and second on a city street in Walnut Creek, CA on 4/1/2022. The Automatic Emergency Braking Light has come on in excess of 20 times during normal driving. Although no braking occurred, the light flashed for no reason. The emergency stopping will eventually cause an accident if it continues. The car is currently under warranty and has been brought back to the dealer.

Mar 30, 2022

3-29-2022 forward collision warning - BRAKE - showed on display in front of steering wheel. There was no vehicle in front of me for a great distance. This had not happened before but the automatic braking system has malfunctioned 2-3 times per year for the 3 years I have owned this car. I reported that to this site last week and have discussed that issue a number of times with 5 dealer employees to no avail.

Mar 25, 2022

Automatic Braking system brakes several times a year for no reason and is a danger for someone rear-ending me. There may not be another vehicle in front of me for 20 car lengths or none at all. Dealer's personnel as recently as yesterday have doubted me/told me nothing can be done/is due to sensitivity to heat/air system temperature/a steel plate over a hole in the road etc. Say it is just the new technology which is so sensitive. Last time it happened was last week. Has happened for the three years I have owned this vehicle - purchased new.

Mar 24, 2022

In the past month, or so, my automatic emergency braking system has initiated, for no apparent reason. Last night's incident was the most severe. I was driving about 25-30 miles per hour, accelerating (to get to the speed limit of 35 mph), when the car's automatic braking system slammed on the brakes, causing my car to lunge forward. It was not a slight brake slowdown; it was a strong, immediate, brief stop. I am grateful that nobody was traveling close behind me, otherwise I would have been rear-ended. The very strong motion jerked me so that both of my wrists and my neck are now hurting. I am now very nervous about driving my vehicle; and, especially having passengers with me. I have left a message for the service manager at my Honda dealer (where I purchased my new vehicle in 2019), and am awaiting a return call.

DEFECT - The Forward Collision Warning and Braking system erroneously activated for no apparent reasons. On March 3, 2022, I was driving on a highway at 65 miles per hour when the Forward Collision Warning and Braking system unexpectedly activated for no apparent reasons. I had reported earlier incidents of this erroneous activation to a Dean Honda service representative who attributed the cause to interference with sensors such as snow on vehicles. I want to emphasize the following conditions at the time of the March 3 erroneous activation: (1) my car was the only car on the road, no vehicles were in front, beside or behind; (2) the road was straight; (3) no overpasses, (4) no objects or structures on both sides of the road and (5) the windshield in the vicinity of the camera, and the hood and front grill in the vicinity of the radar were clean. As a result, I do not believe that the March 3 incident was attributed to sensor interference as Dean Honda claimed. On March 14, 2022, Dean Honda took possession of my vehicle for less than an hour and again claimed reflection could be the cause of the March 3 incidents. Dean Honda is located at 911 Clairton Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Phone no. 412-552-3228.

2 incidents Car going 60 mph on interstate, no cars around and car suddenly brakes. Lasted about a second or two. Car slowed but did not stop.

Mar 15, 2022

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the Collision Mitigation Braking System warning light illuminated; however, the closest vehicle to her vehicle was ten car lengths away; and there were no other vehicles nearby. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. Consumer stated since March 15, 2022 there have been three (3) additional incidents, activated the dash Emergency System braking notification and the audible alarm without reason. These occurred twice on March 17, 2002: one time traveling approximately 45 mph, and the second time traveling approximately 60 mph. The third time was several days later on March 23, 2022, traveling approximately 40 mph. Happened with no apparent reason for the system to have initiated the dash and audible sound warning. Consumer took it to the dealer, they test drove the car to see if the issue would occur during the test drive, unfortunately it did not.

Periodically the driving assistance will break the vehicle when there is no reason. It happens both when changing lanes as well as when driving straight-on. The warning light "Brake" appears on the dash and the breaking system engages. It has not put my safety at risk, but it is disconcerting when it happens.

Mar 14, 2022

I was stopped at a red light, and when the light turned green, I accelerated and then maybe 2 seconds later the car suddenly braked. I was in the middle of the intersection. There were no cars behind me. My safety was put at risk because if there was a car behind me, it would have rear ended me. I took the car to the dealer the same week, and they told me I can turn off the CMBS (collision mitigation braking system).

Mar 10, 2022

Vehicle suddenly flashed a warning on the dashboard and vehicle slammed it's brakes on completely stopping the car while I was traveling approximately 65 MPH. There was no vehicle or object in front of me, luckily there was no one behind me or they probably would have hit me.

Mar 10, 2022

When driving at approximately 35 MPH the automatic braking system engaged, stopping the car rapidly and throwing me forward enough that all items siting on the passenger seat landed on the floor mat. There were no cars or pedestrians in front of me (or luckily behind me). This has only happened once. The dealer informed me that something might have been blocking the sensor (I don't think this was the case). The vehicle has not be inspected by any parties as this fortunately did not cause a collision. There were no warning systems that the automatic breaks weren't working properly. The typical dash indicator did turn on when the car braked.

I HAVE ASKED QUESTIONS EVERYTIME I HAVE IT IN BUT HONDA DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE AN ANSWER. 1. WHEN IN CRUISE THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY BRAKE WHEN NOTHING IS IN SIGHT 2. MY BLIND SPOT MONITORS SEEM ONLY INTERMITTENTLY NOTICE ANYONE ON MY PASSANGER SIDE OF VIHICLE

Mar 6, 2022

I have been experiencing the same unexpected braking issues that I have read other drivers of the CR-V are reporting. For example, I was traveling southbound of Delaware Rt1 near Milton DE just over a week ago. This road has two lanes running in either direction. I had been in the right lane and saw some vehicles ahead moving at least 20 miles per hour under the speed limit. I switched to the left lane, which was clear for at least 1/4 mile ahead. As I approached to where the vehicles were, my car slammed the brakes on and decelerated quickly. I was nearly rear-ended by a truck coming up behind me. This same type of thing has happened on curves in the past and it just seems that the system is misinterpreting the road conditions.

Mar 3, 2022

Car has completely stopped while driving numerous times. I have been driving anywhere from 35 to 45 miles an hour when the car suddenly stops for no apparent reason. Today I was almost rear ended.

Mar 3, 2022

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH, the brake warning light illuminated and the brake independently activated and the vehicle decelerated to 10 MPH. The contact stated that the cruise control was not activated during the failure. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and veered the vehicle to the side of the road, waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred a week later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Mar 2, 2022

The component system that is failing is the Anti Collision Emergency Braking System. It has put the safety of me, and my family at risk, by engaging while I was driving on a highway—multiple times regardless of if there was a vehicle in front of me or not. I've had to lightly pump my brakes in order for the system to disengage. This issue has not been investigated by anyone other than hearing about it on the local news station. There were no other warnings and thankfully has not yet resulted in any accidents.

Mar 1, 2022

I have owned my Honda CRV for only 8 days. I have had three instances where my auto-braking has activated when it was not necessary. I have placed my stopping distance for my auto-braking at "short", to hopefully avoid unnecessary braking after the first incident occurred. Two of the incidents occurred when the vehicle ahead of me was turning right at an intersection in town at slow rates of speed. In both cases, I was not close to the vehicle, but my vehicle braked suddenly as if a collision was imminent. In one of those incidents, the vehicle ahead of me had turned and I was starting to accelerate when the emergency braking activated. It totally surprised me since there was no vehicle in front of me at that time. The third incident the automatic braking activated for just a split second and went off when there was a vehicle at least 50 feet in front of my vehicle and we were traveling straight down a city road at less than 30 miles per hour. It is a little unnerving at the moment the vehicle does automatic braking when there is no apparent reason for it.

Feb 28, 2022

Automatic braking occurs when driving for no apparent reason. This has happened multiple times usually when driving on the highway at high speed.

Feb 28, 2022

Vehicle braked hard without driver touching brake pedal. This has happened twice in last year. Now reading that this may be common with 2019 CRV

Feb 28, 2022

In February of 2022, the automatic emergency braking system (CMBS) randomly activated as I was driving through an intersection and caused my 2019 Honda SUV to suddenly decelerate, shudder, and jerk while coming to a very sudden stop. There were no other cars in front of me or at the side of me and the weather was clear and the road smooth. My seatbelt tightened as I was jerked forward by the sudden stop. The emergency brake warning sign was flashing on the dashboard. At first I was unable to accelerate and move the car forward but after a minute was able to start up. There were cars following behind me and they too had to make a very sudden stop and avoided what could have been multiple rear end collisions. I have approximately 7,000 miles on this SUV and have driven it for approximately two years and this is the first incident. I am scared to drive it with the CMBS activated and am turning it off every time I start the car!

Feb 28, 2022

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle independently slowed down without warning. The contact also stated a similar failure occurred as he crossed a yellow line on the roadway. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty; however, after the dealer spoke with the manufacturer, they agreed to honor the warranty. The contact was given a date for the parts to arrive however, the parts never arrived. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

Feb 27, 2022

On 22 Feb 22 while exiting the highway to a service plaza, the Automatic Emergency Braking System slammed on the brakes in our 2019 CR-V. Fortunately, no one was close behind us. I recall that the Lane Departure Warning system activated and then the brakes slammed on. The braking system fault has also occured 5 or 6 times when making a 90 degree turn from a stop light to another street and there was no one directly in front of us. We have owned the car for 3 years and are happy with the vehicle and safety features, but this fault is extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed.

The emergency braking system deployed unexpectedly and for no reason I was accelerating after getting on the expressway at rush hour when the brakes deployed nearly causing a rear end accident. This has happened three additional times since the first incident. No inspection of the vehicle has been performed. The "BRAKE" light did illuminate.

In April or early May 2021, my wife and I were driving my CRV on Interstate 77S coming from downtown Cleveland in the afternoon. It was a sunny day and we were driving at highway speeds. All of a sudden my CRV went into an Emergency Braking condition. The car was braking was as if I slammed on the brakes full force. Luckily no cars were immediately behind us or else they would have rear-ended us. The car slowed down rapidly and drastically, but control of the car was returned to the driver before it came to a full stop. No cars were in front of us. Nothing was in the road that we could see as an obstruction or shiny object (which Honda said sometimes fools the sensor). We were approaching (maybe 100 yds away) a shadow in the road from a bridge overpass. The dealer checked the vehicle on May 4, 2021 for proper operation of this Emergency Braking system and if any codes were created by the event. Nothing was found wrong. The car had 15,483 miles on it when Honda checked it. Honda said the shadow in the road should not have triggered the sensor.

This has happened 3 different times in the last 4 months, I have been driving down the road and the brake button pops up and slows me down when nothing is around, called dealership they said nothing wrong with vehicle. It's even done it in a curve and scared me had a vehicle behind me almost caused an accident

Feb 25, 2022

My car will run normally with all the safety equipment turned on. Sometimes, when I switch lanes, the car will brake and slow down possibly 10 miles per hour and cause a dangerous situation on a highway or expressway. It happens mainly when I'm on a highway and traveling at normal speed and will make the traffic behind me come closer to my car as if I'm braking. When this happens, there aren't any cars near me neither in front and to my sides. This happens about once every 2 weeks of highway travel and also when merging from an entrance ramp. My email address is [XXX] and my phone number is [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Feb 25, 2022

The vehicle’s automatic braking system flashes the warning and slams on the brakes when there is nothing in front of the car. It is an intermittent problem that happens mostly when the weather is clear and dry. This has nearly caused an accident on occasion since it’s happened when traveling at both lower and higher speeds.

Feb 25, 2022

Car will randomly brake when there is nothing in front. Has happened several times.

I HAD 2 INCIDENCES WHERE MY CRV STOPPED SUDDENLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. BOTH TIMES, I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, ON ONE-WAY STREETS, WITH A STOP SIGN AT EACH BLOCK. SPEED WAS AbOUT 20 MPH (OR LESS). THERE WAS NO WARNING OF ANY KIND, NO ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED AND I DIDN'T REPORT IT TO THE DEALER (CAR IS LEASED), THINKING EACH WAS JUST A FLUKE. I'M REPORTING IT TO YOU NOW, SINCE I JUST LEARNED THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED WITH OTHER HONDA CRVS AND IS BEING INVESTIGATED. THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGH IF A CAR WAS FOLLOWING ME CLOSE BEHIND. I DO NOT REALL THE DATES, BUT BOTH OCCURRED WITHIN THE PAST YEAR.

This vehicle is NOT equipped with an automatic braking system however if I get too close to a vehicle in front I will get a visual and audio warning to BRAKE NOW. From time to time the BRAKE NOW warning will appear when there are no other vehicles in front of me.

Feb 25, 2022

The vehicle will be running at a certain speed then will just start braking like a car is in front but there isnt. It has done it several times. Sometimes it brakes hard and sometimes not. It is scary and worries you about being rear ended. It will slow you down then take off again.

Feb 25, 2022

was driving on the highway at 50 mile an hour and car slammed on the brakes automatically.

Feb 24, 2022

When entering an interstate at rush hour, I was the first car in the line of those entering, and there were no cars ahead of me in the remaining length of lane. At the top of the ramp, with nothing in front of me, my car suddenly came to a complete stop with the screen flashing BREAK, telling me the automatic breaking engaged. The force of the break while driving 55 mph caused my body to fly forward (to the extent allowed by the seatbelt) and later a bruise across my chest. Everything loose in my car became a projectile. The car immediately behind me had to swerve to avoid hitting me, avoiding an accident. Problem is not reproducible as the system otherwise "works fine" and the car passes inspections. The car was under a year old at that point, and there were no other issues, warning lights, etc.

Purchased my vehicle November/December of 2019. I have had multiple occasions of my vehicle automatically braking for no reason what-so-ever. I've been in clear path of travel and it just brake. I have reported this to the Honda of Gallatin, TN on multiple occasions. I had to have radar system replaced with in a couple of weeks of owning the vehicle. And had to have some thing else replaced about a month ago because all my brake warning systems came on. On that occasion it didn't cause the brakes to come on but it's an uneasy feeling to drive with brake system warning on everything. The emergency braking has happen multiple times i'll do better in keeping track of those going forward

Feb 24, 2022

The Automatic Emergency Braking System engaged while I was driving, causing my vehicle to slow down with a jolt. I felt my safety was put at risk. I have not yet confirmed this with my dealer, nor has it been inspected by anyone else. There were no warning lights or messages. indicating there was a problem.

When driving on the interstate with assisted cruise control and lane assist, my car has twice braked very hard when no hazards were in sight. Once, it almost came to a complete stop and had the car behind me been closer their would have been an accident - this was summer of 2021. The second time, it braked, I turned off cruise and tapped the brake and it corrected itself. In both cases, this could have been a very dangerous situation that put myself and others at risk. I thought it was happening because my windshield had been replaced and recalibrated. I had that checked twice and they found no issue with the calibration. I realized it could be a greater issue when I saw the news report on investigation of this happening on other 2019 Honda CRV's. I have not taken it to the shop yet. There were no prior warnings.

Vehicle on several occasions has applied the brakes at highway speeds for no apparent reason. My safety is at risk because this will causes the vehicle to brake without warning and at high speeds. No vehicles were in front of the car, the road was clear. The vehicle has been taken to two Honda Dealerships for this issue. The warning "BRAKE" warning light flashes in the dashboard when this has happened. This has happened multiple times in 2021 and also in 2022.

Feb 24, 2022

Periodically my vehicle will abruptly slow down, propelling myself/passenger forward. I would examine the area and there is nothing moving that should have triggered it. There are no identifying factors involved, (day/night/wet/dry), it may occur at any time. I have mentioned it to the Honda service department at my local dealership. They say it will happen sometimes.

Feb 24, 2022 Crash

On three occasions the emergency automatic braking system activated. The first time it was hard braking; but, not to a full stop. The other two were minor. Only the first was a safety issue as it resulted in a quick slow down in traffic. I have not reported this to dealer and it has not been inspected. The word "BRAKE" illuminated on the instrument panel but not prior to the action.

Feb 24, 2022

I was exiting I-490 east to I-390 north at 45 mph and suddenly my Honda CRV forcefully applied the brakes. There was no vehicle in front of me and fortunately there was no vehicle in back of me. But I remember this because it really scared me. This is the only time this has happened. I am reporting this now because of an article I read on AOL titled "Over 1.7M Hondas probed for unexpected automatic braking".

Feb 24, 2022

The ABS system suddenly engaged for no reason with the brakes slamming on. The system has also randomly alerted to brake for no reason with nothing but shadows in front of me. I purchased this vehicle because it happened multiple times in the 2018 CRV model I owned and the dealer I bought it from said there was nothing wrong and that it couldn’t be turned off. That vehicle stopped in the middle of a road from going 35 and again in the highway while traveling at 60 mph.

Feb 22, 2022

I was driving through an intersection at about 25 MPH with no car or obstructions in front of me when my Collision Mitigation Braking System inappropriately engaged and brought me to a screeching stop in the middle of the intersection. I am very lucky that no one behind me rear-ended me. My wife was wife me in the passenger seat and confirmed that there were no obstructions in the path of out vehicle. We were traveling straight through the intersection, no turning. My "Brake" light was flashing, the car was beeping and the brake pedal depressed itself firmly until the car stopped. This happened on 2/20/22 and I brought the car to the dealer (North City Honda) on 2/22/22 and they found nothing wrong with the car. When I first purchased this car in 2019, I was on the highway going 70mph with nothing in front of me and the same thing happened with the collision mitigation braking system inappropriately engaging but it lasted only about a second and disengaged. The "brake" light was flashing, the car was beeping and the brake pedal automatically depressed. Again, there was no car or other obstruction in front of me. Both of these episodes have scared the heck out of me, and I'm very lucky nothing bad happened with either.

Feb 19, 2022

twice in the past 6 months, driving down our rural road to our neighborhood the car flashed the BRAKE sign on the dash and applied the brakes. After touching the brake pedal the car returned to its normal speed. The road was clear, with no obstructions, no cars in front or cars coming the other direction. A web search brings up other incidents like this and a class action law suit

Feb 16, 2022

Twice now, my Honda CRV has automatically applied the brakes without warning. Once at 55MPH and again at 25MPH, over a 6-month period. Both times, the car slammed on breaks and the engine turned off. I see on-line, others have also reported the problem, but I can't believe Honda has not issued a recall. I am going to my local Honda dealer next week for another recall and will see if anything at the local level can be done.

Feb 13, 2022

While driving warning lights on dashboard display the following issues: 1. Collision Mitigation System Problem 2. Road Departure Mitigation Problem 3. Tire Pressure Monitor Problem 4. Brake System Problem 5. Brake System Hold Problem 6. Power Steering System Problem 7. Vehicle Stability Assistant Problem 8. Hill Start Assist Problem and 9. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem. Vehicle taken to dealership for evaluation and assessment. Indicated it was due to corrosion on battery post. Post were cleaned problem reoccurring after vehicle diagnostic test. I'm unsure what will happen to me while driving. Unsure if the car System will fail while in motion. Dealership apparently unable to repair. This issue has been periodically reoccurring since September 26, 2021.

Feb 13, 2022

The other day my car logged 35k miles. About 200 miles later multiple waning lights came up on my instrument panel. Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure and Collision Mitigation systems are not working. After looking for help on different forums I found that at around 35K miles this is happening to many people. The "radar" part of the system is most likely the part that needs replacing and just the part is over $400! This safety feature is not only required for modern vehicles, but it is used in vehicle safety ratings and marketing to attract buyers to specific vehicles. This is no small matter in my opinion. What good is a feature that stops working after the warranty runs out.

Jan 25, 2022

Automatic Emergency Braking will randomly flash BRAKE and start to break, yet there is nothing under or near the car. Unable to reproduce the problem, but it's happened 4-5 times in two years. The BRAKE warning started showing within a few weeks of driving.

Jan 17, 2022

My vehicle has 3 malfunction warnings that come up - Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, and Collision Mitigation System Problem along with the brake system light on. I have had the vehicle at the dealer for repairs 4 times, it has happened again a few more times and I am bringing my vehicle back to the dealer again for the fifth time (on 1/18/22). It happens randomly and has been persistent since November 2020. The district rep for Honda (Arizona) is aware of these issues. I have been offered no other solution except to bring the vehicle back in again (for the fifth time).

Dec 10, 2021

During driving, all warning lights flashed on the dashboard suddenly. Reverse car caused it to have lost power, stall. Regular maintained with low mileage. Dealer rest something but did not explain what were the exact causes. I am afraid it would happen again to cause dangers.

1. My car like many other CRV's I have read about online in forums and other sites is experiencing the fuel injection failure of CRV's since 2017 model. The consumer reports article from 2018 stated the 2019 model was to include a "fix" for this problem but it has not. My car has been in the shop twice in 2 weeks for this issue and now I am facing a $1,788.00 repair at my cost to have all new fuel injectors replaced at 51,400 miles. First sign of problem showed every safety system on the car failing and warnings on every light on the dash. Only after the 2nd trip to the dealer was the fuel injection code thrown on the computer. This problem leads to stalls, cuts offs, sluggishness in traffic which all cause safety issues. 2. The automatic emergency braking system on my car has alerted on multiple occasions when there is nothing in front of me, no obstruction, or any reason to throw the brake warning on the screen. There is one particular place on my daily commute where this happens consistently even though the light is green and there is no traffic flow ahead, beside or oncoming. 3. The lane keep assist program misreads shadows from the electric or telephone lines projected onto the roadway and steers to maneuver around them. It also tends to have difficulty when the road is wet in spots from rain earlier in the day. I keep it off most of the time now because of how it reacts.

Oct 15, 2021

I was driving about 35 mph on a flat road, sunny day approximately 75 degrees with no vehicles, bikes or people around me and my emergency braking system went off for no reason, throwing the car into a hard brake. My purse and work bag went flying. Thankfully, there weren’t any cars behind me or I definitely would have been rear-ended. It was a terrifying experience and I will be reporting this to my Honda dealership tomorrow. This happened one other time in a road construction detour. The car hard braked when changing lanes per the detour. These “safety” systems are not safe.

Oct 13, 2021

On 9/6 I turned left into a parking lot. I was not exceeding 20 mph. I slowed to go over a speed bump, took my foot off the gas to brake and before I actually pressed the brake petal the automatic braking feature activated. There were no cars in front of me or any road hazard. The same thing happened again on 10/9 but this time I was in traffic. After completing a left turn I slowed to go over a construction steel plate in the road. Again no cars in front of me, or any other hazard, but before I got my foot to the brake petal the braking system engaged. Because I was in traffic this time I barely missed being rear ended. I took it to the dealer, DCH Honda in San Diego on 10/12/21. They could not find an issue with the CMBC system and could not duplicate by a road test so they told me to keep driving it until it happens again and to bring it back if it does. Needless to say I don’t feel safe while driving it.

Oct 10, 2021

The emergency braking engaged for no apparent reason while I was driving about 35 mph and at least a car length behind car in front of me. The car slammed on the brakes in moving traffic for no apparent reason. Fortunately the car behind me was able to stop but this could have easily caused a rear end collision.

Sep 13, 2021

Yesterday I was traveling about 40 mph on two-lane highway coming to the crest of a hill when suddenly the "BRAKE" warning light from the Collision Mitigation Braking System came on followed immediately by the car quickly coming to a stop. The whole warning/stopping event occurred in a few seconds. There were no obstacles in the road, it was a clear, sunny day and (I later determined that) there was no debris or dirt on the grill or in front of the forward camera. There was a car following me about 2 or 3 car lengths behind who had to stop very quickly in order not to rear-end me. Checking my vehicle settings I noted that the "distance" setting for the CMBS was set to normal (not short or long). I have not yet had the issue looked into and will do so ASAP.

Aug 18, 2021

While cruise control on, car slams on it's brakes for no reason. So it will go from 55 mph to 15 mph without warning. Clear roads, no other cars on right, left, front, behind me. This has happened many times. I have gone to two dealerships: 1-29-21, 6-27-19, etc. They had it overnight & couldn't find anything. I read online, this has happened to others. I have talked to a service tech. manager who admitted the ACC system doesn't always work. I have 3 typed pages of issues with this CRV. Case #12036468 issued, but no one in customer service will call me back (800)999-1009. After I wrote a letter to their headquarters, they promised to call within 2 days. No one did, even after I sent them an email.

Aug 2, 2021

I was driving on an unobstructed road with no cars/ obstructions in sight and my automatic emergency braking suddenly engaged then released. Had there been Other vehicles/ traffic an accident may have occurred.

Jul 15, 2021

Automatic Emergency Braking system activated as I was accelerating away from a stoplight. Turning off of a side road onto a 4 lane thoroughfare. Upon turning onto the main road, I accelerated through an intersection with a green light. As I crossed two steel construction plates, straddled with the vehicle, the AEB system activated and brought the vehicle to a full and complete stop in traffic while I was on the accelerator pedal. Dash announcement flashed "BRAKE" and vehicle came to a stop. I was not following any other vehicles. I was accelerating.

Jun 16, 2021

i was driving in town at a speed of 35 mph when my car suddenly applied the brakes very hard and nearly stopped the vehicle. a warning alarm sounded at the same time. There were no other vehicles or objects within several blocks of my vehicle. I took the vehicle to Honda on Grand in Elmhurst IL where I purchased it new on 7-20-19 and reported the problem. they inspected the vehicle and could not find a problem. i looked online to find many people are having the exact same problem with this model. From what I read it appears to be a software problem with the adaptive cruise control. Honda is not acknowledging any problem at this time. My vehicle has 9480 miles on it and has never been in an accident. This is a serious safety issue and could easily cause an accident!

IF THERE HAD BEEN ANYONE BEHIND ME I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. THE BRAKING WAS SUDDEN ENOUGH THAT EVERYTHING FLEW OFF THE PASSENGER SEAT INTO THE FLOOR. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD A SHADOW OR A BAG CAN SET IT OFF AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP BECAUSE IT WASN'T BROKEN AND ALTHOUGH SOME HONDA'S ALLOWED YOU TO TURN OFF THAT FEATURE, THE HONDA CRV DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO DISABLE BRAKE ASSIST FUNCTION PERMANENTLY. YOU CAN TURN IT OFF EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR BUT IF YOU FORGET TO TURN IT OFF A BAG BLOWING IN THE STREET CAN BRING YOU TO A SUDDEN STOP.

I PURCHASED A HONDA CRV FROM HAGERSTOWN HONDA ON 3/16/2019. I LOVE MY CRV. HOWEVER, I'VE BEEN HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. THE HONDA COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM IS CAUSING MY CAR TO JUST STOP WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR OR MORE, DOWN TO ZERO WITHOUT WARNING. THE CMBS THINKS THERE IS SOMETHING I'M GOING TO HIT, HOWEVER THERE ARE NO CARS OR OBJECTS IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT 5 TIMES NOW. I HAVE HAD MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF HAGERSTOWN HONDA CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE MEET WITH BOB BARNES (SERVICE MANAGER) AND TALKED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE TELEPHONE ABOUT THE ISSUE, THE TECHNICIAN (NICK SHIFLER) READJUSTED THE RADAR, AND A HONDA SENSING INTERVIEW SHEET THAT WAS SENT INTO HONDA USA. IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST LAST WEEK, WHERE I CAUSED A THREE-CAR ACCIDENT ON EAST BOUND ROUTE 66. I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT AS FAR AS I KNOW RIGHT NOW, HOWEVER THE OTHER DRIVERS HAD SIGNIFICANT CAR DAMAGE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. THE VA STATE TROOPER AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE, AND I AGREE. I CONTACTED BOB BARNES SERVICE MANAGER FROM HAGERSTOWN HONDA AGAIN LAST WEEK, AND HE SAID HE CAN'T HELP ME BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TO CONTACT HONDA USA. MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE CMBS SYSTEM IS GOING TO ENGAGE, WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY DRIVING.
