Steering sticky when driving car on road.

Sep 16, 2025

There are many complains online about the same issue from other car owners. All I want is for the dealer to repair at no cost to me. The car has less than 30K miles and it is driven only on city streets short distances. Below, the answer to the questions: 1-Steering Rack. Yes it is available for inspection 2-Sticky steering hard to control 3-Yes 4-Yes. Authorized Honda Dealer at Coconut Point, Estero Florida and Honda Corporate office in California knows about it too 5- No warning just a noise We firmly believe many vehicles may have this same issue. Regardless, it is clear that the part in my car is defective and should be replaced by the dealer at no cost to me. The age and mileage of the vehicle do not justify such a serious problem. Either the part was made with poor quality or it is defective. How can a steering rack fail at only 29,248 miles—what is it made of, plastic? This raises serious concerns about Honda Corporate and whether this is part of a broader scheme that should be investigated. My car is practically new and has been serviced exclusively at the same dealer where it was purchased brand new, without missing any of the recommended services ever. note: from the invoice attached you can see how expensive it is this repair

I am writing to express a serious safety concern regarding my Honda CR-V. I recently learned that Honda has recalled millions of vehicles due to a sticky steering issue, and while my specific vehicle is not listed in the current recall, I am experiencing similar symptoms. Most notably, I recently encountered a frightening incident in which the steering in my vehicle felt unusually resistant or "sticky." As I attempted to correct my course on the highway, the lack of smooth steering response caused me to oversteer into the shoulder, putting myself and others at risk. Thankfully, I was able to regain control, but this could have resulted in a serious accident. In addition to the stiffness, I have also noticed a clicking noise when turning the wheel, which seems to accompany or precede the sticky sensation. Given the known recall for this issue in other Honda vehicles, I strongly urge you to investigate whether this problem might extend beyond the current recall list. My concern is that other affected vehicles, including mine, may have been missed. I would appreciate it if a representative could assist me with this. This is clearly a serious safety concern, and I believe it deserves your immediate attention. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

Steering sticks when driving 50 mph or faster. The steering feels stuck in position.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the steering wheel was sticking while driving, causing the steering wheel to remain turned towards the left. The contact stated that an excessive amount of effort was needed to straighten out the steering wheel. The contact stated that while turning left and right, the steering wheel was making a clicking noise. The contact stated that the failure was more prominent in warmer weather. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Our 2019 Honda CRV is experiencing steering problems. The steering sticks or feels heavy and makes a clicking noise. When driving, especially in curves, the steering sticks and causes over steering. This almost caused an accident when it stuck going around a curve and I had to apply additional pressure to the steering wheel to correct the turn. The problem began around may of 2025 and has grown more prevalent. At first I thought it might be the lane keeping assist function, but as I researched for answer's on why the steering felt sticky I found it is a common problem with CRV’s. There is a recall for 2019 models, but my VIN isn’t covered in this recall. The steering intermittently sometimes feels heavy, like the power steering isn’t working. The problem is worsening and becoming a safety issue when it sticks hard. This hasn't been diagnosed with the dealer. I did speak with my local service rep at the local Honda dealer but they weren't any help. There were no warning lamps. As it worsens it's becoming a major safety issue with my CRV. It doesn't matter what my MPH is, slow or fast, the sticky steering is an issue.

We had to replace steering gearbox. This was the second time we had to bring the car into the dealer for repairs. Almost a year earlier August 27,2024 brought in for the same issue, at that time the Honda had 61,505 miles. No repairs were done as they had no error codes to go by even though there were other Hondas witl steeringbox issues. As of October 9,2024 1.7 million in recall. July 5,2025 had steering gearbox replaced at our cost of $4,557.18. We had a hard time keeping the vehicle on the road as it would drift and violently go from left to right when driving. Other Hondas were recalled but this model year has no recalls yet on the steering box. Ihope that honda will include this model in their recall as we are having the same problems as other Hondas with steering gearbox. Thank you

2019 Honda CRV. Steering feels sticky. It takes extra effort to make small corrections. Once you get the steering past the 'lump', it steers better for a little while. If you don't, it will return to where it started. It seems to get stuck wherever and whenever I make a correction. I have not talked to the dealer or repair professional but it seems to be getting worse.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING WILL SIMPLY GET A STICKY SPOT IN THE STEERING. SO YOU WILL BE DRIVING AND SUDDENLY THERE IS A STUCK SPOT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND TO GET IT PAST IT YOU MUST PUSH THE STEERING PAST THAT POINT WHICH MAKES YOU NEARLY VEER INTO OTHER LANES. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS WELL KNOWN ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THERE ARE RECALLS ON SOME OF THE CRV VEHICLES FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER NOT FOR MY VEHICLE. i WAS QUOTED $6000 TO FIX IT AND AFTER I INQUIRED DEEPER WITH HONDA ABOUT THIS BEING AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH OTHERS I WAS SUDDENLY ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR $2000 OF THE COST. I FEEL STRONGLY THAT HONDA KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND IS STILL MAKING CONSUMERS PAY FOR THE BAD PARTS THEY HAVE PUT ON THEESE STEERING SYSTEMS. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE WILL LIKELY BE KILLED OVER HONDA NOT STARTING A RECALL ON THIS.

I have been reading many similar steering defects on the Honda CRV. The problem is the steering wheel sticking when trying to maintain the Honda on a straight path. The steering is not fluid! Calling the dealership the first time ,I was told ,rather rudely that it was probably the rack and pinion steering gearbox. They also said it was going to cost north of $5,000.00. After exhausted research of the problem, I discovered Honda has several model recall for this, potentially very serious problem ,including the Honda CRV. I found there is a recall on the 2023 and newer. My 2109 is not in the recall. At this point I brought the CRV to the dealership to trouble shoot the problem. Sure enough the rude person was right. I needed a rack and pinion gearbox. I was quoted a price of, $5756.24.This opinion cost me $177.75. I left and told them I need to search around for a better price, and also try to get this done on a recall. I have contacted HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. As of this writing I feel I’m getting the run around! But I keep trying to see if they have a soul!!!

On 6/19/2025 while driving on both residential and highway I noticed extremely sloppy/sticky steering wheel and did not feel safe while driving. The temperature was in the high 80's. I had not noticed anything like this before. Today is 6/29/2025 and I have been to the dealership I bought my CRV vehicle from 3 times relating to the steering for substantial visits on 6/20, 6/24 and 6/26. They were not able to replicate at the dealership what I experienced and we have had substantially cooler temperatures, such as 25 degrees. I believe no being able to replicate what I experienced could be caused by the much lower temperatures. I am frustrated since after the first visit to the dealership for service on 6/20/2025 by searching online I have learned there have been numerous years before and after my CRV was manufactured with steering related issues. This includes 2018 (18V66300 recall for electric power assist system) and 2019 (19V383000). The 2019 steering wheel recall was for vehicles that began manufacture 10-03-2018 and had manufacturing ending 4/02/2019. My vehicle was manufactured January 2019 and from what I understand it was not included in the recall. There was also recently a recall announced Nov. 2024 related to gearbox worm wheel and this included CRV model years 2023-2025. Additional information is that my CRV has low mileage. As of 6/20/2025 the mileage was 46,636. My concerns is that there has been a pattern over many years with similar issues as I expressed June 2025 regarding my CRV. This has involved many Honda auto makes including CRV.

Jun 25, 2025

While driving especially at highway speeds the steering sticks and requires excessive force to adjust causing oversteering and erratic driving. At low speeds the steering is heard to make loud clicking noise and continues to be stiff. The Honda repair service manager- simply stated there is a recall on the newer models- but not on the 2019. No warning lights. The failure has been ongoing since 2020, getting progressively worse. The vehicle has not been damaged in an accident.

Jun 23, 2025

Steering seems "sticky" causing to over correct when turning in the highway and at low speeds. Ticking/clicking noise when turning the wheel. It is consistent every drive.

Jun 18, 2025

The steering wheel "sticks" when steering, particularly when veering or turning right. My local Honda service department identified the issue as a defective steering gearbox, with a repair cost of $5,115.44. I contacted Honda and was told that my specific VIN is not part of the recall associated with steering issues. Honda refused to add my VIN to the recall and initially refused to cover my repairs. I called again and received a "good will" offer of $3,000 towards repairs. I pointed out that since the issue is a manufacturing defect and other CRVs have been recalled for the same reason, Honda should pay for the entire repair cost. Again they refused and gave me 30 days to think about their offer. I wrote a letter addressed to Mr. Ozawa, director of traffic safety, urging him to take responsibility for the known defect. Honda refused to increase their good will offer. I requested the offer in writing but was refused. I accepted the offer and scheduled the repairs. In the end Honda didn’t honor its good will offer and only paid $2,210 towards repairs. My only solace is knowing that all my calls were recorded (unless they lied about this too) and there's a record of the offer.

Jun 10, 2025

Reporting this early. Left a message with the dealership today. Steering is clicking and pulling to the right. I do not see a recall yet for 2019 yet but do see for other years of CRV.

Jun 5, 2025

My 2019 Honda CRV steering system is malfunctioning, As I am driving straight the steering wheel wants to turn in either direction without me turning the steering wheel or having any intention of turning at all.I am driving straight, the problem happens at all times at all speeds, I don't feel safe driving my vehicle, I feel it may cause an accident, my vehicle was taken to a local Honda dealer, Honda Cars of Mckinney in Mckinney Tx, vehicle was inspected, they were able to duplicate my concern at parking lot speeds as stated on the dealer's diagnostics report, diagnostics report attached, dealer refused to fix it because they said there's no open recalls for my vehicle, However there's a recall for the same vehicle all trim levels model years 2017 and 2018 but they said even though it's the same problem it doesn't apply to my vehicle because it's 2019 model, the issue started about six weeks ago and it seems to be getting worse, I also contacted Honda headquarter who also refused to fix my vehicle.

May 27, 2025

The steering in my 2019 Honda CRV started sticking when turning, almost like it was clicking into notches. There were no warning messages that anything was wrong. Brought the car to the dealer who determined the power steering rack needed to be replaced at the cost of $4579. Not doing so was a safety issue as the steering could lock up. I'm the original owner of the vehicle which has less than 30,000 miles, lives in a garage, has been well maintained by Honda's service department, and isn't driven in harsh conditions, so was shocked to hear this and questioned a defect in the part. Local dealer contacted Honda Corporate on my behalf and I was offered a 80% discount for the repair out of good will as a longstanding customer. I had the work done to avoid driving an unsafe vehicle. Based on recalls with steering racks in newer models, I am questioning whether the recall should not extend to earlier models. I do not have any of the replaced parts.

Needs Steering Gear Box replaced. Vehicle has 88,800 miles RACK ASSY., POWER STEERING (EPS)(SERVICE) (STEERING GEARBOX) Steering majorly affected. Confirmed by the dealer and currently at a dealer for repair Called Honda Customer service and they suggested that I put in the notice as there is a recall on the same part for CRV's but not my VIN number No warning lamps or messages, steering just became difficult

May 20, 2025

My Steering has been very sticky on oy 2019 CRV. It makes creaking noises when I even slightly touch the wheel. They told me today I need a new rack and pinion. I only have 76,000 miles on this vehicle. There was a recall early on that had to do with steering and I feel like this is related. They're acting like it's not. I just don't think I should have to spend $5,800 on a car that I should be able to drive a very long time! 76,000 miles is nothing on a honda!

May 13, 2025

My Honda CRV 2019 has about 70K miles on it. About a month ago, I started noticing the steering wheel becoming sticky. I would start to turn the wheel very slight and nothing would happen. Then it would catch up but i feel I have turned the wheel too much and now have to over-correct for it. This has a become a problem on highway driving as I feel I am all over my lane. I have seen the recalls for similar issues but this model is currently not under recall for this issue.

May 1, 2025

My steering wheel is sticking. Especially noticeable when driving on highway. It’s like it won’t move then when it does it over corrects.

Apr 28, 2025

The component in question is the steering assembly. The vehicle which currently has approximately 55,000 miles has started having what I would describe as "sticky steering". The steering wheel does not operate smoothly, instead you have to force it out of a turn or merge. The vehicle issue has been confirmed by my local dealer where we purchased the car new. There are no warning lamps associated with this issue and it has been going on for about a month or so as of today. The recommended repair by the dealer is to replace the steering rack at $4000. To me that would be a questionable repair on a vehicle with twice as many miles as mine. It is definitely a safety issue that I'm sure won't go away on its own. The car has not been involved in an accident that would cause this issue.

Apr 28, 2025

There is a "sticky" feeling when steering, particularly when veering or turning right. My local Honda service department identified it as a defective steering gearbox and estimates that it will cost about $5,100 to fix it. I contacted Honda and was told that my specific VIN is not part of the recall associated with steering issues; they also refused to add it or cover my repairs.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The contact researched and was made aware of an unknown NHTSA recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Apr 21, 2025

After driving the vehicle for approximately one hour on the freeway, the steering begins to feel jerky (sticky), requiring greater force to steer car. It is almost like fighting against the lane assist feature but that feature is turned off. This does not happen while driving shorter distances around town.

Apr 12, 2025

For several months (around early December) the steering wheel has been snapping in and out of place and not steering smoothly and had a subtle clicking sound. It felt as if it was catching on something, but the car was NOT pulling or shaking. I brought it to a local auto shop (that replaced my tires) and then Tire Kingdom and neither found any issues and ran a diagnostic report. Wheel alignment was good. I knew something was not right and my husband experienced the same sort of popping in and out of place sensation (felt like it was catching on something) as well. I took it to the Honda dealer today (March 12) and was informed I needed to replace the rack and pinion. My car was not part of this Honda recall [XXX] ), but it sounds like quite a similar issue. Here is a video from the Honda diagnostic: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Apr 7, 2025

When at highway speeds, steering “sticks” requiring extra effort to initiate a correction. This extra effort often results in an “overcorrection” and “lurching” of auto. Has not been confirmed by dealer, but seems to be worsening since first noted. No warnings lamps. No additional inspections.

The contact owned a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle occasionally drifted to the left or right. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while attempting to turn the steering wheel, excessive force was needed while turning the steering wheel. The contact stated that the steering wheel was stuck occasionally. No warning lights were illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was test driven and diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion and the front driver’s and passenger’s side tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall for similar vehicles between 2022 - 2025; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact attempted to contact the manufacturer; however, was unable to get through the prompts. The contact stated that the dealer had submitted paperwork to the manufacturer to verify any recalls. The failure mileage was 45,350.

on [XXX] I was driving home with my wife & [XXX] baby, in what I would describe as standard wintery mix of weather - rain, but not yet cold enough to be snow. My 2019 CRV EX-L alerts me of the following message: "Some Driver Assist Systems Cannot Operate: Radar Obstructed" As I've had this car for years, I've seen this message pop before, but as I had no plans of using any Driver Assist features, i didn't think anything of it. At roughly [XXX], while driving on the highway, my Honda became 100% unresponsive to me as the driver. It locked the ability to steer the wheel or apply the brakes in any capacity. The vehicle completely usurped driving power & under its own power, began veering off the road at highway speeds. I could only look straight ahead and hope that when we crashed into the upcoming highway divider, my family wouldn't die. To confirm, i tried pumping brakes, holding down the brakes, touching - absolutely nothing worked - they were completely locked. The steering wheel locked as well, we were heading for certain death. This was going what felt for a lifetime, but after probably 5 - 10 seconds, i was able to gain steering control - and turned away from the light post we were destined to hit & was able to get us veered back on the highway. Conditions were wintery, and we swerved alongside another car lanes away. By the grace of God, my car and the other car, only slightly touched side view mirrors. We both pulled over and swapped information, but little actual damage was caused. With all of this said I want to make sure one thing is clear. Honda almost killed my entire family. They put us in danger for absolutely no reason. My Honda CRV overrode every possible human driver action - and had us on a direct path with death. If not for the grace of God - I wouldn't be able to write this message to you. We opened a case with Honda Case #[XXX] where they made me pay for a diagnostics test - however didnt properly inspect the issue imo INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (F

My vehicle suddenly started to have a "sticky" steering wheel. It makes a creeking sound when I turn the wheel and it sounds exactly like what the later model CRV'S are being recalled for. I.feel unsafe when the wheel sticks especially when coming out of a turn. It's not a smooth steering ride anymore and it's super frustrating that it's clearly why the newer onea are being recalled.

Our 2019 Honda CRV has a sticking steering problem. We have to constantly adjust to the left or right to keep the car driving straight. We’ve had the electric steering gearbox motor replaced and it’s doing it again. The car only has 16000 miles on it. It has to go back for repair, It should be part of the recall. I’m afraid to drive it.

Issue: At speeds above 40 miles per hour there is resistance in the steering wheel. Although the resistance is in a narrow range, it increases with speed. Steering issues may cause a safety hazard. Dealer Diagnostic: Local Honda dealer performed a diagnostic and test drive and confirmed the resistance in the steering wheel. The dealer recommended replacing the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) gear box with an estimated cost of $3,770. It is my understanding that the 2017 and 2018 Honda CRVs were under a recall for this issue. My vehicle was manufactured in January 2019, and it had 34,435 miles when the dealer preformed it review on August 20, 2024. The Honda recall might not have completely correct the problem, and it should include additional model years.

Sep 26, 2024

Driving on the highway I eased to the left to change lanes and the steering wheel felt stuck. Once I turned a little farther it freed making the car oversteer to the left lane. There were no lights or warnings, and it has been doin the same thing since. The Honda dealer said my rack and pinion needed to be changed, but the problem is widespread and there are no parts available. This to me is a safety issue and I believe Honda should have a recall on these cars. Thank you.

After driving app. 10 min, at speeds above 30 mph. the steering becomes sticky. When the car starts going to the right you of course steer to the left, but you need a lot more force to turn the wheel. It makes a clicking sound when it jumps. My concern is that if it jumps too far into an opposing lane and causes an accident. I'm use to it but it seems to be getting worse. Because of this I won't let anybody else drive the car. I am making an appointment with dealer but after reading the reviews it doesn't seem hopeful.

I was driving slowly yesterday in a parking lot area and the electrical system on my 2019 CRV Touring sent messages that the brakes, power steering, and engine were shutting down. I lost some power steering capabilities and the brakes were not working normally, but were partially working. I called the dealer who was nearby and they said if I could drive it, to try to get to the dealership. I was less than a mile away, so I was able to drive it very slowly without complete power steering. I was told that all of the electrical signals and shut-downs were due to a fuel injector defect and that I would need all fuel injectors replaced. I have had my Honda regularly serviced without missing any needed service appointments. Prior to the electrical system shut-down yesterday, my Honda was on a recall list for a new fuel pump, which was incorrectly installed, had to be reinstalled a second time, only to find out from Honda that they had made an error and should not have sent me a letter that my Honda was under a recall for a defective fuel pump. The electrical issues began to surface soon after the second fuel pump install (the reinstall due to incorrect install the first time). It also needs to be noted that my car cabin smelled of gas for several days after the fuel pump installs, and if I fill up my gas tank to full, the cabin of my car has a gas smell. My battery immediately died shortly after the second fuel pump install and it was only approximately 2 years old. The screen where my indicators are will frequently shut down for no reason from time to time, but then will come back on. Yesterday was the first time that all systems sent warnings that everything was going to shut down, and the steering and brake systems were compromised. My family and I have concerns regarding the safety of this vehicle at this time.

Aug 20, 2024

My 2019 Honda CRV began having power steering issues in mid 2024. The harder I turn the wheel in one direction the more the power steering pulls in the exact opposite direction. This results in the wheel needing to be held tightly during turns to ensure it does not forcefully turn the wrong direction. My local Honda dealer says the problem is with the rack and pinion and it needs to be fully replaced. There has been no warning light indicating the problem, and the problem only started recently after getting a strut replaced.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The contact also stated while driving at an undisclosed speed the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Jul 11, 2024

When driving, the Steering feels like it “sticks” in one position. The problem has been ongoing for about a year and has gotten worse. My vehicle now has 28,294 miles on it but is out of warranty due to time. I had it to the dealership today and was told the part to fix it is the steering rack and is already on back order and cannot predict when it can be repaired at a cost of 3500.00-4000.00. I was told by the service department tech that it is safe to drive, but I don’t think it is as it creates more effort to steer.

Steering binds when making slight steering corrections.

Jun 25, 2024

The steering sticks and gets stuck. I have to turn the wheel so hard at times, the vehicle wants to veer into the other lane. I could hit another car or drive off the road. Occurs at high or low speed. I have taken the vehicle to the Honda dealership and they confirmed "electronic steering rack assembly internal malfunction. The dealership Honda of Sarasota Florida indicated this is very common problem. The issue is so common the part is on nationwide back order from Honda. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and the repair estimate is $3826. No ETA on parts.

The steering wheel is not turning smoothly when slightly. Steering sticking when slightly turning side to side. Sonda service suggests replacing EPS Rack assembly. $3100

Jun 24, 2024

Eight months ago while returning home from a road trip my steering began acting strange. Seemed sticky. Not smooth. I disengaged the cruise control but the problem was still there. After returning home it was not as noticeable unless I drove a minimum of 10-15 minutes. . Then I began hearing a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel and when driving on an interstate for about 20 minutes the effort to keep the steering wheel from sticking to the left or right becomes very tiring. A constant battle. The problem is getting worse and more pronounced. I disengaged the Lane Departure Feature but it didn’t improve anything. I’ve recently taken the vehicle to the Honda Dealer and I now have to replace the Steering Rack at a cost of $3500 before tax and front end alignment. I am waiting for a steering rack to become available as there is a nationwide shortage at this time. My dealership is familiar with this problem as they get daily complaints of this issue. I will not be driving this vehicle on my planned summer vacation until it’s fixed. I don’t feel it’s safe. The effort to overcome the stickiness in the steering wheel becomes very exhausting. I can’t imagine driving several hundred miles in this condition. Frankly, I’m not certain it’s even safe to drive any distance as I worry it may one day Lock Up.

*This car was parked in the driveway 2 days without being driven before the following incident* ALSO- there are recalls for this make and model. Honda always said that the recalls do not include my car. Recalls should be expanded to include mine since the car is un drivable at the Honda service center. WHAT HAPPENED: Alarm went off on car in driveway. Horn constantly going off. Smoke came out around steering wheel and inside the vehicle filled with smoke. All lights came on dash. Gears were locked up and had to manually put in neutral to get on tow truck. Car is at Honda dealership in cumming GA. Said I needed steering wheel cable, srs unit, safety restraints unit, & brake boosters. They put parts on. Did same thing to them as it did in my driveway. Horn & smoke & all!! Now they say it needs steering wheel & the harness is on back order until August 28! and that my vin # is NOT on the recall but I believe it should be. This car could have caused a fire and was parked beside my house. My family and I were at risk and almost called police and fire department. Newborn baby, & other family members inside the home. Family members disconnected the battery because horn was so loud. All these repairs are headed towards $9000 & this is insane. This is my only vehicle. I must have transportation!

For about the last 6 months, we have experienced the "sticky steering" during every drive. I did not realize other Honda CRVs have been having the same issue, although it appears most reported model years have been newer than our 2019 model. There have been no "check engine" or warning lights on the dash. We have had a few experiences of the CRV being difficult to maintain within the lane while driving, although luckily no accidents at this time. We took our CRV to the Honda dealer who was able to experience the steering issue of our CRV, and acknowledged the current solution is to replace the steering gearbox assembly, which was quoted at $3500 (labor included), and the gearbox assembly is on national backorder with no estimated time of being available. To make the situation worse, the dealership requires a full payment upfront of the cost for the part ($2500). This steering gearbox issue is a huge safety concern, and without an estimated time of remedy, our confidence in Honda at this point in time is not the highest.

My car is having sticking steering and creaky noise when it turns. I googled this online. They have over 500,000 cars with the same issue. I went to get it checked out they want me to pay $3400 to get this fixed. I believe this is a major safety issue. Steering sticks at high speed very scary. The parts are on backorder, which leads me to believe there’s multiple cars having same issue. what I read into this is that Honda is more worried about the profit versus the safety of their consumers and their loyal consumers. that is over 500,000 cars with the same issue. Honda should be fixing these for charge. I have an injured in this car. It is the only one I have to drive. Before they fix it. I think they should fix it for free because it’s obviously a defect and 100,000 cars and therefore their liability to protect their customers. When you call her number, they talk about safety. They don’t give a dam about safety they only care about making a profit.

The steering rack is malfunctioning, causing the steering wheel to have notchy feel and a clicking sound. Problem has been reproduced by independent service center. No warning lamps.

May 29, 2024

I was driving on the highway last week and my steering kept sticking. It’s like having to constantly adjust and you can feel the steering stick. Now it’s happening even in town while driving. I reached out to Steve Padgett Honda in Irmo SC and they said it’s not a known issue. I beg to differ. I decided to google to see what might be the problem And was overwhelmed by all of the information I have found. Including the fact that it IS a known issue to Honda. I think it’s dangerous! TY for any help.

The steering wheel clicks and increased effort is needed when turning the wheel to stay in a lane and/or going around a curve.

May 24, 2024

Steering has become intermittently "sticky" in the last year. The vehicle has 12,000 miles on it. The dealer says the EPS Steering rack is the cause and needs replacing at owner's cost.

May 12, 2024

Steering is "sticking" when driving above 35 mph which requires some effort to overcome and when it "unsticks" results in over correction. Also makes an audible noise when "unsticks" First noticed a year ago. It subsided but now has returned and is worse than before.

Apr 27, 2024

The steering on this vehicle became -?sticky-? and requires extra force to pull it from the center position. This little bit of extra force causes overcorrection of the vehicle making it unstable and unsafe. Dealer wants $3500 to fix a premature and unsafe electronic steering issue . Vehicle has not been crashed or damaged in any way. i have contacted American Honda but they will not fix the problem, answering( sorry, but your vehicle is out of warranty) . Problem has been reproduced by dealer, no warning light on vehicle.

Steering wheel sticks when turning, can overpower it but it is not right. Other people on the Honda forums have reported the same.

I feel it's like sticky steering, I can also hear grinding sound when turn the steering wheel.

Mar 21, 2024

After using the LKAS at 36,300 miles I observed stickiness in the steering wheel. I drove it for awhile but the stickiness makes it difficult to steer and could cause an accident. I took it to the dealer and now at 37,000 miles it needs a complete rack and pinion steering assembly at almost $4000 dollars. I have been driving cars since the 1970's and this is the first steering issue I have encountered. You would think that steering would be a system they have mastered by now. I also know that slightly older Honda CRV's (IE, 2018 model year) have been recalled for an issue like this due to improper heat treatment of the gears in the rack and pinion system. My guess is that the same parts in that model year are also in the 2019 model and it should b added to the recall as well. This system should not fail at only 37,000 miles.

Feb 22, 2024

In November of 2023, I started having a noise in the front end of my 2019 Honda CRV. I took it into the local Honda dealership and was told that I had a bad power steering rack. They replaced the steering gear box. I was concerned that a vehicle with only 34,000 miles on it would have such an important component break so soon. I looked on [XXX] & saw there were multiple reports of the same thing occurring on other same year, low mileage cars. There were reports on the same website that indicated some had actual problem when steering. I reported it to American Honda, they were responsive, but I did not know that this was the group that needed to be alerted to the problem. So, I am addressing it now. Thanks for your time. Car has a steering problem. After driving for a while at highway speeds, the steering "catches" or is "sticky" where it takes extra effort to make even minor adjustments. The car has been doing this for approximately 10K miles (one year) and is making us nervous about taking any long road trips at highway speeds. The car is out of warranty and the dealer is indicating the electric power steering unit is probably at fault, but will not honor a safety replacement and will charge approximately $3500 for replacement.. This certainly should be honored as a recall safety problem.

Jan 29, 2024

Starting at just over 36,000 miles after the last time I used LKAS there is now a stickiness in the steering. Light catches that almost seem like the LKAS is still trying to correct. I can overcome the catches, but makes the steering less comfortable than it should be and worry about worsening issue. Will be taking the car in for service but have seen may issues related to steering on this model of car, so wanted to make sure all complaints are noted by NHTSA. No warning lights are showing.

The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the messages "Emission System Problem", "Brake System Problem”, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Problem", "Brake Hose System Problem" and "Power Steering EPS Fault" were displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle had not experienced a mechanical failure. The contact stopped driving the vehicle due to safety concerns. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

While driving the car at highway speed the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power to all essential functions. The engine shutdown and there was no steering and loss of some of the brake functions. Multiple warnings started showing ( too many to list here ). The car came to a stop partially in the highway and we experienced several near misses by passing vehicles before we could get enough assistance to push the vehicle out of the roadway. Since this incident a simple search has shown that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. It appears that it could be a problem with the computer software. This problem has a very high potential for serious injury or death when it occurs while driving at highway speeds. Please look into this issue as soon as possible.

I live in Puerto RIco. I was just quoted $3,000 for new Rack and Pinion. Vehicle always maintained correctly and almost new, not even 5 years. Honda knows that this problem with the Rack and Pinions exist and is a safety concern and issue. Other three vehicles in the dealer repair shop with the same issue, one of them with only 900 miles. Other customers had to pay full price. Honda knows about this problem, a recent recall for Civics was announced for their Rack and Pinions. Many Rack and Pinions have problems and Honda has not recalled this part for CRVs. I change engine oil every 3,000 miles with high quality Synthetic oil. Honda original filter. Changed Transmission oil every 30,000 miles and coolant as well. This is a SAFETY, a costly part the Honda knows is faulty and should be recalled immediately. I'm a customer that bought this Honda CRV-Touring expecting the quality and reliability that Honda has claimed. Today I received the news of a gas pump recalled, and a prematurely faulty Rack and Pinion. This is just unbelievable. I'm writing in the hopes of some good news from Honda to replace my Rack and Pinion before an accident happens. I'm still paying for this vehicle. 2019 CRV After recent service (May 2023 63,000 miles) We had oil change/tire rotation. We noticed about a week later the car would make a clicking sound when turning to the left and the steering wheel would stick where it wouldn't move. We called the dealership where all service has been performed. We brought it in on the 19th of June and 2 techs and an advisor said they drove it and could not duplicate the problem. We drove off and first turn that was made the clicking sound happened and the steering wheel would stick in place. I was asked to bring in back in after complaining that it was still having the same issue. Within 30 mins I was told the power steering rack would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,110. I said this car is 4 years old and it already need 15% of its value in repairs? I am still paying on it. The dealership just said this is what is wrong with it and this is how much it is to repair. I called corporate Honda and told them I didn't believe this was something that should be tearing up at 60k miles. They talked to the dealer and said they will pay for 60% of it but I'm still on the hook for $1400. Looking at other complaints here it seems this should be a recall and covered by Honda. I advise everyone to buy an extended warranty because this is not part of the powertrain. The replaced part is only covered for 12 months 12,000 miles.

The steering has been "sticky" when turning and has gotten increasingly more difficult to turn and has been not operating correctly, meaning you don't know if you are going to need to overcompensate or under. We took it into the dealership for the fuel pump recall and they couldn't identify the problem. We told them to keep it for a day or two and keep trying. My wife went in and did a test drive with the foreman and he said the power rack steering and the sensors were failing and it would need to be replaced. The service advisor said it was fine to drive as my wife had a conference three hours away, but after having the car back for a week it had gotten noticeable worse with creaks and clicks when turning in particular. I called and spoke to the service manager and he said that he would not drive it to the conference, so it is basically unsafe to drive at this point as we don't know when it will fail or what kind of accident we could get in while driving it. There were no lights or warning to indicate the failure and as I said, the technician and service advisor at first couldn't identify the problem, but we are all in agreement that the steering is failing.

The contact stated that when the vehicle was started the following day, there was a clicking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering gearbox had overheated, and that the steering rack assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,054.

My steering wheel sticks when driving on the highway and turning on and off the ramp. It also sticks when driving on main roads. Car only has roughly 45,000 miles.

Feb 20, 2023

The steering wheel began slipping (without moving the wheels), especially when turning the wheel all the way to one side or another to make a turn starting in November 2022. Kept getting worse, although it was intermittent; it started trying to move the steering wheel the opposite direction when turning or while driving down the road. Dealer was unable to duplicate it a month after it started, although they recommended the replacement of the gear box (electric p/s rack). Four local mechanics checked it and three confirmed the gear box (electric p/s rack) was most likely faulty, due to the driver assist sensor issue that had been occurring in 2017 and 2018 models. The recall information for both years matched the symptoms and it kept getting worse to the point that the steering wheel intermittently slipped up to 90 degrees while holding it to make a turn. Finally had to have the electric p/s rack replaced at my cost, as the dealer wouldn't cover it. Vehicle now steering normally.

Feb 10, 2023

Electric power steering fails when parking (dry turning when vehicle is stopped). The electric power steering seems to overheat, once moving power steering resumes. This has happened multiple times prior to this report.

Feb 7, 2023

All my car systems started to flash warning failure lights including brakes, steering, transmission and all the safety features. My car would start but I couldn't move it out of park and all the warning lights for every system on the car blinked failure. The wire harness that connects to the rearview mirror caused my entire car to shut down and become inoperable. I had to have it towed and it cost me $1552.53 in repairs. I did some research and other people are having the same issue. Critical systems like brakes shouldn’t be connected to things like mirrors. This is a critical safety concern. This issue should have a recall. The 2019 models having a bit of wire that hangs down is clearly a design / engineering flaw. I shouldn’t have to pay to repair this. I would like to know what Honda’s plan is to fix this issue. I have found reports of others having the same issue. My hanging my handicap plate card on the rear view mirror shouldn’t short out the entire car. Legally that is where we are suppose to hang it. People with disabilities have lower incomes and shouldn’t be penalized for Honda design errors. I would like my money refunded. I think Honda should warn customers of this flaw. I also think Honda needs to fix this on all existing and future models. I was lucky this didn't happen while I was driving on the highway to my destination.

While driving felt sticking of the steering wheel when only turning left on curves or at a red light or stop sign. This occurred sporadically over a three month period but became more pronounced the last month prior to taking the vehicle to the dealership. Dealership discovered the issue was the electric power steering (EPS) had failed. This occurred 3 months after 36 month warranty had expired and 3,000 miles over the mileage limit. No warning light was displayed when issues occurred. Diagnostics was performed by dealer and fault code 32xx thru 34xx confirmed the problem was the EPS control unit. Had the unit replaced due to safety concerns when driving with family. Because of the electric system there was no way to conduct preventative maintenance. Called Honda corporation and a "Good Will Case" was opened (#13019826).

I HAVE PURCHASED HONDA CRV 2019 0N 02/18/2019. INITIALLY THE CAR PERFORMANCE WAS AWESOME. MY FIRST VISIT AT FIRST TEXAS HONDA ON 10/04/2019, TO FIX TYRE PUNCHER. WHEN PRIMARY TECHNICIAN REMINDED ME ABOUT SECURITY RECALLS THEN I ASKED TO FIX ALL THE 3 RECALLS (1. 2019 CR-V FI-ECU SELF SHUTDOWN SOFTWARE PRODUCT UPDATE, 2.2019 CR-V STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS & SRS SUB-WIRE SATEFY RECALL, 3. 2019 CR-V INCORRECT OWNER'S GUIDE NON-COMPLIANCE RECALL) SECOND VISIT AT THE SAME DEALER ON 10/17/2019 TO EXPLAIN ALL THE ISSUES I WAS FACING AFTER SECURITY RECALLS. THE REPORTED ISSUES ARE HIGH ENGINE NOISE, SLUGGISH ACCELERATION, STEERING WHEEL TIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL FEELS VERY LOW WHILE APPLYING BRAKE. HONDA DEALERS DID NOT ACCEPT THE MAIN ISSUE WHILE IS HIGH ENGINE NOISE AND SLUGGISH ACCELERATION. THEY SIMPLY DENY SAYING NO ALERTS SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD. RAISED SUPPORT CASES (GIVEN BELOW) WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND I FEEL I DID NOT GET RIGHT SUPPORT BECAUSE AMERICAN HONDA SAYS WE VALUE OUR CUSTOMERS BUT THEY SAY OUR AUTHORIZED DEALER SHOULD CHECK AND CONFIRM ON THE CAR ISSUE. BUT DEALERS NOT AGREE TO THE ISSUES, SIMPLY DENYING THE ISSUES. AMERICAN HONDA SUPPORT CASE NUMBERS: 1) 09952327 DURING OCT 2019. 2) 10214175 DURING FEB 2020. 3) 202888213 DURING DECEMBER 2020 BUT THE ISSUES WERE NOT RESOLVED. AS A THIRD PARTY REVIEW, I APPROACHED FIRESTONE, AUSTIN FOR INSPECTION THEY DID A TEST RIDE AND CONFIRMED WITH A REPORT ON THE ISSUES SLUGGISH ACCELERATION AND STEERING HARDNESS. BUT AMERICAN HONDA DENIED FIRESTONE INSPECTION REPORT AS THEY BELIEVE ONLY AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE ISSUES. IF ANY PERSON WHO DRIVE NEW HONDA CR-V AND TRY MY CAR THEY AGREE IN FIRST ATTEMPT THAT ENGINE NOISE IS HIGH AND THE CAR SPEED PICK-UP IS VERY POOR. I NEED HELP FROM NHTSA ASAP BCOZ MY NEW CR-V WHICH IS STILL IN WARRANTY BUT NO-BODY ACCEPTS THE CAR ENGINE ISSUE TO FIX IT.

I RECEIVED THE NHTSA RECALL NOTICE 19V-383 AND, WHEN I CALLED JOHN EAGLE HONDA (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR), THEY DID NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PART AND DIDN'T KNOW WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I CALLED THE NATIONAL HONDA HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO CALL ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAD THE PART AND, IF THEY DID NOT, TO CALL HONDA BACK AND THEY'D TRY TO HELP ME. THIS RUNAROUND IS OUTRAGEOUS, GIVEN THAT THE RECALL INVOLVES A POTENTIAL "UNCOMMANDED DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVERS AIRBAG". HONDA IS CALLOUSLY DISREGARDING THE SAFETY OF ITS CAR OWNERS AND I WANT THEM TO SEND REPLACEMENT PARTS IMMEDIATELY TO JOHN EAGLE HONDA IN DALLAS.

SRS SYSTEM DEFECT. PLEASE FIND, ATTACHED, A LETTER ENTITLED "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL". I RECEIVED THIS IN EARLY JULY FROM THE DEALER. WHEN I CALLED MY HONDA DEALER I WAS TOLD I COULD BRING THE CAR IN THE FOLLOWING WEEK. WAS ON VACATION THIS WEEK AND I WOULD BE PUT ON THEIR "CALL BACK" LIST AND CONTACTED WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. THEN, I CALLED THE HONDA CUSTOMER SUPPORT CENTER AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS MIGHT BE IN "BY THE END OF SUMMER". THE "WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS NOTICE?" I ENDED THE CALL WITH SAMANTHA. I CALLED AGAIN AND SPOKE TO ANOTHER SERVICE REP. I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA HAS NOT YET SHIPPED THE REQUIRED PARTS TO ANY OF HONDA DEALERS AND IT WILL NOT HAPPEN UNTIL SOMETIME IN OCTOBER 2019. I WAS MISINFORMED BY THE LETTER TO CALL HONDA DEALERS NOW WHEN THE DEALERS DON'T EVEN HAVE THE PARTS. PROMPT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN BEFORE ANY SERIOUS AND UNPREDICTABLE INJURIES/DEATH DUE TO THE DEFECTS.

RECALL 19V-383 AFTER MANY MONTHS OF RESEARCH, DECIDED TO PURCHASE 2019 HONDA CRV FOR OUR 16 YEAR OLD SON IN APRIL. RECEIVED NOTIFICATION ON JULY 11, 2019 THAT THERE IS A RECALL THAT COULD CAUSE 'UNCOMMAND DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER'S AIRBAG.' THIS RECALL WAS FIRST ISSUED IN MAY 2019, HOWEVER HONDA DID NOT NOTIFY OWNERS UNTIL MID JULY. SINCE THIS IS A SERIOUS RECALL, I CALLED SEVERAL HONDA DEALERS IN CHARLOTTE RIGHT AWAY TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD BY EVERY SINGLE ONE THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK FOR CURRENT CUSTOMER REPAIRS AND WILL NOT RECEIVE THEM UNTIL AUG/SEPT. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE PARTS THAT THEY ARE RECEIVING WEEKLY ARE ONLY FOR CURRENT INVENTORY ON THE LOT THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL. WHAT?! THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE! I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT HAVE A LOT OF INFO ABOUT THIS RECALL, I WOULD HAVE TO CALL CORPORATE. CALLED HONDA CORPORATE AND WAS ASSIGNED A CLAIM NUMBER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE RECEIVING A CALL IN 24 HOURS.... 4 DAYS LATER AND STILL NO CALL. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW, I DO NOT WANT TO PUT MY 16 YEAR OLD SON (OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER) BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR WHERE THE DRIVER AIRBAG COULD RANDOMLY DEPLOY AT ANY MOMENT. PRETTY DISAPPOINTED IN THE LACK OF CONCERN HONDA IS SHOWING FOR THEIR CURRENT CUSTOMERS.

AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. (HONDA) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2019 MODEL YEAR CR-V VEHICLES. THE METAL CORE OF THE STEERING WHEEL MAY CONTAIN BURRS, WHICH CAN DAMAGE THE CABLE REEL SUB-HARNESS AND CAUSE A SHORT-CIRCUIT. THIS CAN RESULT IN INOPERATIVE STEERING WHEEL-MOUNTED CONTROL BUTTONS (INCLUDING THE HORN), ILLUMINATION OF THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) WARNING INDICATOR, AND/OR AN UNCOMMANDED DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVERS AIRBAG. HONDA WAS UNWILLING TO TELL ME ABOUT THE SAFETY CONCERNS RELATED TO THIS RECALL OR PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST/EARLY SEPTEMBER.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MY CR V INVOLVING THE METAL CORE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I TRIED TO GET IT REPLACED I WAS TOLD HONDA DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPARE PARTS. I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK AND A HALF BUT THAT REALLY THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL COME IN. NOT ONLY CAN I CAUSE A CRASH WHICH WOULD KILL ME ME BUT WOULD ALSO KILL WHOEVER I CRASH INTO. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE SO I WOULD LIKE TO GO ON RECORD AS HAVING WARNED THAT THESE CRASHES WILL BEGIN TO HAPPEN.

I HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF A RECALL FOR MY CRV. "THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MAY CONTAIN "BURRS" WHICH CAN DAMAGE THE CABLE REEL SUB HARNESS AND CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT, THIS CAN CAUSE INOPERATIVE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS, HORN AND UNCOMMANDED DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG. SRS MAY NOT FUNCTION IN CRASH AND UNCOMMANDED DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAG INCREASES RISK OF CRASH AND INJURY." 3 PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BEEN INJURED. WHEN I CONTACT HONDA FOR THIS RECALL REPAIR THEY TELL ME THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE YET AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE. I REQUESTED ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED ME UNTIL RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED. HONDA TOLD ME THEY HAD TO REVIEW MY "CASE" FIRST, THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I HAVE NO CAR TO DRIVE UNLESS I DRIVE A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE DUE TO HONDA NOT REPAIRING IT IMMEDIATELY. THEY NEED TO PROVIDE ALL PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS RECALL WITH ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY.

WITH THE 2019 MODEL OF CR-V, I AM UNABLE TO ONLY TURN OF THE LANE KEEP ASSIST. THERE IS NO MENTION IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL ABOUT HOW TO EXCLUSIVELY TURN THE LANE KEEP ASSIST OFF, OR AT THE VERY LEAST CONFIGURE IT SO THAT IT DOES NOT APPLY FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. ALL OTHER ADVANCED FEATURES CAN EITHER NOT BE TURNED ON, OR DESELECTED IN THE MENU. THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LANE KEEP ASSIST IS INCORRECTLY APPLYING STEERING WHEEL FORCES. THERE IS A LOT OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION BY ME AND THE SYSTEM WILL TRY AND PULL THE CAR INTO THE VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE NEXT LANE. A HUGE PROBLEM IF IT IS A SEMI TRUCK. THERE MUST BE A WAY TO DEFEAT THIS FEATURE AND NOT EFFECT OTHER SAFETY FEATURES THAT DO FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
