2020 HONDA CR-V Fuel/propulsion System Problems

At approximately 75,000 miles, my 2020 Honda CR-V began experiencing serious engine performance issues, including jerking, hesitation, and rough operation while driving. The check engine warning light began flashing, indicating an active engine misfire. During these events, the vehicle’s acceleration and engine response became unpredictable. Only traveling at 5 mph. The ignition coils and spark plugs were replaced, and then replaced again, by an independent mechanic. After the most recent repair, the vehicle was test driven and the issue persisted. A diagnostic scan shows the engine is running rich, which mechanics stated points to a fuel injector malfunction. Based on diagnostic results, repeated test drives, and elimination of ignition components as the cause, the fuel injector system is the component believed to have failed. This malfunction poses a safety risk because a misfiring engine can cause sudden loss of power, hesitation during acceleration, and unpredictable vehicle behavior, especially during merging, passing, or driving in traffic. The issue has been reproduced and reviewed by multiple mechanics, who reached the same conclusion regarding a fuel injector related failure. Prior to and during the failure, the vehicle exhibited jerking, hesitation, rough operation, and a flashing check engine light. These symptoms have continued despite repairs. The fuel injector failure is the subject of an active recall affecting this make, model, and year, however my VIN is not included in the recall. Despite this exclusion, my vehicle is exhibiting the same symptoms, misfire behavior, and diagnostic indicators addressed by the recall. The exact reason my VIN is excluded from the recall is unknown, but the evidence indicates a fuel injector related defect affecting safe operation of the vehicle.

My car lost roughly half its power while traveling in heavy traffic on the interstate. The engine light in the lower left hand corner of the dash began blinking at the same time. I was able to get off the interstate whereupon I turned the car off and then restarted it. This cured the problem and it has not happened in the week since. No one has inspected the problem, but I have an appointment with the dealer on November 4, 2025.

Fuel pump. The mechanic did give me back the fuel pump. Independent mechanic documented repairs following Honda's instructions. There was no warning prior to the fuel pump stopping me dead in my tracks. I was at an intersection coming out of a busy parking lot. I was able to get to my nearby home in limp mode until the car could be looked at by my mobile mechanic. I called Honda and they said go ahead and have the mobile mechanic repair the vehicle.

Driving at approx 45mph local road and suddenly the all warning lights (brake, check engine, hill descent, etc) started flashing. The car started to slow down and I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. Drove to local Honda dealership and they stated it was faulty fuel injector. 2020 Honda CRV @96k miles

My car's estimated fuel remaining changed from 1/4 tank to dangerously low within a few minutes. It seemed to work ok after I filled it, but my car failed to run when the car insisted that about a quarter tank of fuel was present when I was driving on a highway after dark - I managed to get safely over to the edge before it stopped moving. The repair shop I towed it to checked and found that the fuel pump and attached sensor had failed, in a car that had only 42,961 miles. I would also add that the Honda dealer in Tulsa refused to give me and my husband any kind of estimate over the phone, saying only that the we had to bring the car there for them to inspect, and they were not permitted to give repair estimates over the phone.

While driving down the freeway at around 60 mph, I sharply accelerated to negotiate traffic and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light was flashing. I was able to roll to an exit ramp where i could barely get up a slight incline. I was able to get out of traffic but at speed of less than 5 mph. It sounded like the vehicle was running on two cylinders. I pulled over and turned the car off. I was able to re-start the car after which it ran normally. I went directly to the dealership where they were unable to reproduce or diagnose the issue.

Hi pressure fuel pump stopped working while driving. My mechanic gave me the defective part in case someone wanted to inspect it. At the time of failure, the car suddenly entered "limp" mode and fortunately I was able to pull over to the side. When I tried to get moving, the engine jerked and sputtered to a maximum speed of about 15 mph. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and flashed. Warnings for many different types of problems displayed, but nothing specific about the fuel pump. There were no warnings previous to the sudden part failure. On the phone, my mechanic immediately told me that it was likely a well-known problem with Honda CRV's. He'd repaired other CRVs with the same problem. A Honda agent told me on the phone "yes" this is a common problem. However she said my CRV is not within the range of VIN numbers under recall. Therefore, I am not eligible for reimbursement at this time. That Honda Agent told me to submit my problem through the NHTSA website and then keep checking to see if my VIN number is eventually within the numbers. Once that is the case I will be reimbursed. I had my trusted mechanic make the repair, per Honda's direction (they said since I'm far away from a dealership and the car is driveable, just have it repaired by my mobile mechanic). Since the repair was completed, it is working fine although I now average 3 mpg less than before the repair.

The fuel injectors failed and were leaking. All warning system lights displayed and scrolled thru dash. We took to Honda dealership and are awaiting repairs. A fire hazard was present from leaking fuel and hazardous condition from lose of power as engine running rough and misfiring.

Fuel Pump failed; the car cannot be driven. Took car to local mechanic and was told the fuel pump is part of major recall from Honda and I need to go back to the dealership and have Honda pay for repairs. I was told my car is not part of the recall, even though 2.5 million Hondas have been recalled with this problem.

My car issue is the high presure fuel pump

Was told by dealer that fuel injector/s are bad. I was driving on the highway at 75mph, when the car suddenly lost power, all (9) warning lights on the dash came on. There was a truck behind me that almost crashed into me because of the sudden loss of speed.

I was driving on the freeway [XXX] my car speed was slowing down even as I had the gas pedal pressed to the floor. I was heading off the freeway when the speed picked up and car was working again. On a separate incident March 2024 my daughter borrowed my car and she described the same issue and again. The car would not speed up despite her pressing the gas pedal. Most recent [XXX]. Put car in reverse and step on gas and zero movement. Put it back in park and back in reverse and car once again worked as normal. No check engine lights so I was told no diagnostics could be performed. I see all the recalls for these problems but my vin number is not included. I’m worried all the time I drive my disabled son around his service dog and my young grandchildren ages [XXX] ,and [XXX] . Please see if you can help me get my car fixed. Several vehicles of the same year, make, and model were recalled for the fuel injectors but mine was not included. My car would not accelerate and became unsafe as I would try to move from stop lights, etc. I took my car into a repair shop and was told it was the fuel injectors. I would like to have my vehicle covered under this same recall as it is a hazard and I do not feel I should have to replace these on a newer car, especially when it is a known issue.

The high-pressure fuel pump in my vehicle failed. Unfortunately, this component is no longer available for inspection as it was repaired with a rebuild kit during repairs at the dealership. The failure of the fuel pump created a driving hazard. Due to insufficient fuel supply, the car exhibited erratic behavior, including the inability to maintain consistent speed. This caused the vehicle to drive at unusually low speeds, which impeded the flow of traffic. If this failure had occurred on the highway, it could have led to a fatal accident. To my knowledge, there has been no formal investigation into the failure of this component. The dealership rebuilt the high pressure fuel pump but did not conduct a thorough investigation into the root cause of the issue. The only indication of the impending failure was the activation of all warning lights on the dashboard when the car was started. Additionally, the vehicle became difficult to start. The first occurrence of this issue was on 06/08/2024, and the car became inoperable immediately after the initial warning signs.

Hello on or about April [XXX] I was driving my Honda CRV on the freeway. all of a sudden I felt the car sputter. It went down to 25 miles an hour. I pulled over and shut the car off. A couple hours later. Oh my dashboard lights went on. One after another, I called Honda and got the service department voicemail.. Then I called my mechanic and he suggested I reboot the computer Which I did. The next day it did the same thing. I called Honda again the same thing voicemail. I called my mechanic and he suggested that I bring it in to be diagnosed.. He said it was the fuel injectors. And suggested I get a hold of Honda. I made a 3rd call ,same thing voicemail. Finally five days later after emailing the service department manager. I finally got a phone call back. I basically was told there’s nothing they can do for me. The quote for the car was $600 more than my mechanic. So my mechanic fixed it. Two weeks later, the service manager called me and told me it was covered under warranty. But I had already had the car fixed. Brad Haag from Honda of Middleburg Heights told me to send my receipt to iHonda corporate, and they said they could not help me. After doing some research on the Internet this seems to be a very common problem with Honda CRV’s. I truly believe this is a safety issue. I could’ve been killed that day.. I bought this car for its safety and reliability. I believe these cars are not safe to be on the road with fuel injectors that just fail without warning. Thank you. The fuel pump system failed and did not accurately display the amount of fuel in tank. This caused car to run out of gas on busy highway, and shut down and all systems turned off. Was able to coast to side of road and from there was eventually towed to local dealership. They diagnosed the fuel system problem and repaired. This was second time it happened, first time was not diagnosed, just fill with gas.

When accelerating, the vehicle tends to lose power

My rear fuel pump failed suddenly when we were driving in highway. No warning at all. We just completed our vehicle inspections by the Honda dealer 3 days prior. We also had them do oil change, replace brake and transmission fluid. It cost us about $2000 for towing and repairs. We found that there is a recall on other crv made the same year. How can I get my repairs reimbursed?

One year after I bought my new 2020 Honda crv the Torque Converter seal leaked and the oil seal was replaced. I had only 4670 miles on it. In August of this yr 2023 my battery died in the middle of no where and had to wait for AAA in 103 temp for 45 minutes. Today October 20th,2023 my car stalled in the middle of a 4 lane busy intersection. The car was towed to the dealership and the fuel pump was replaced at only 14,400 miles! this vin has had no recalls but im so disappointed since I bought a Honda for its reliability. I have a disabled 81 yr old husband and this has been more than stressful. My warranty expires this Dec 2023 and im afraid I bought a lemon. Driving on the freeway with my foot on the accelerator, the car lost power even thought the engine was running. The engine light came on as a static light - it was not blinking. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and shut the engine off. When I restarted the car the engine light was off and I was able to accelerate again. After the first incident, I took it to a Honda dealer who replaced the fuel injectors. This did not solve the problem as it happened on the drive back from the dealers when I was again driving on a freeway with my foot on the accelerator and I lost all power, the engine was still running and the engine light came on. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and turned off the engine. The car is now at the second dealer to determine the cause. My car only has 46000 miles on it and there should not be these types of uses with the low mileage.

Oil Dultion issue. There are class action lawsuits on this. How is this not being addressed.

on June 23, 2023, had all the dashboards' lights came on and rough running Mechanicville. Honda say it high-pressure fuel pump replaced it for 1800 dollars. Then on July 23, 2023, all dashboards' lights came on again then they say it's the fuel injectors need to be replaced at 1900 dollars. All this while driving at highway speed someone is going to get killed because the car has fuel problems

My wife driving it all light come on. Take it to shop high-pressure fuel intake had low pressure. Tool cost a lot for an independent shop. Had to tow it to the dealer to be fixed. At dealer found high-pressure fuel pump was bad 1300 dollars to fix. No way a 2020 Honda with 78,000 miles

The check engine light on my 2020 Honda CRV illuminated on 1/24/2023 7am. The dealer inspected the vehicle on 1/26/2023 and found that a TSB 02-081 applied. The issue is that radio interference in the environment can trigger a fault in the evap syatem which then triggers the check engine light to come on. Seeing a check engine light on is scary and distracting. The owners manual states to drive the vehicle as little as possible and to have the vehicled serviced by a honda dealer ASAP. The vehicle is out of warranty and we had to pay over $330 to have the vehicle fixed. The fix entails ADDING a wiring harness. ADDING any part to remedy a problem means that the vehicle has a design defect/flaw that Honda should pay for. Not the customer.

had the very first oil change for my new 2020 Honda CRV at approx 6200 miles and was told there was gasoline mixed in with my oil. the shop brought out a sample and you could smell the gas. took to a Honda dealer and they did not find any problems. oil change was NOT done at a Honda dealer. was told by the shop that performed oil change that they have seen this problem with other Honda motors

CRANKCASE FUEL/OIL DILUTION PROBLEM ON HONDA 1.5L DIRECT FUEL INJECTED, TURBO ENGINE. UPON THE FIRST OIL CHANGE ON OUR 2020 HONDA CR-V EXL AT ABOUT 6300 MILES WE FOUND THE OIL LEVEL IN THE CRANKCASE TO BE OVERFULL BY APPROXIMATELY 1 PINT. THE OIL SMELLED FAINTLY OF GASOLINE AND APPEARED THINNER THAN NORMAL. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE. WE LIVE IN A TOWN OF 22,000. MOST TRIPS AROUND TOWN ARE 2 MILES EACH WAY AT MOST, WHICH ACCORDING TO HONDA IS PART OF THE PROBLEM AS THE ENGINE DOES NOT RUN AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE LONG ENOUGH TO EVAPORATE FUEL IN THE CRANKCASE. WE DO TAKE OCCASIONAL TRIPS OF AN HOUR OR MORE EACH DIRECTION. HONDA SAYS THIS PROBLEM IS MADE WORSE BY COLD CLIMATES, HOWEVER, OUR WINTER WHERE WE LIVE HAD BEEN VERY MILD COMPARED TO MOST WINTERS WHEN OUR OIL WAS CHANGED. MOST DAYS THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP HAD BEEN IN THE 30'S TO LOW 40'S. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY MY HONDA DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HONDA HAS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING PROPER OIL VISCOSITY. IF THE OIL LEVEL IN OUR HONDA ENGINE CRANKCASE WAS A PINT OVER FULL, THAT WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO A 13% FUEL CONTENT SINCE THE ENGINE ONLY HOLDS 3.7 QUARTS OF OIL. THAT SEEMS EXCESSIVE AND VISCOSITY HAS TO SUFFER ALLOWING EXCESSIVE ENGINE WEAR. HONDA SAYS IT WILL BE FINE. I HAVE WRITTEN TO HONDA CORP. ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPLY.

CAR WAS ONLY TWO MONTHS OLD FROM THE SHOP AND HAD A SEVERE GAS LEAK FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HONDA CR-V 2020 DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS RODENTS THAT ATE THE FUEL PUMP AND THEN LENT ME THE EXACT SAME CARE HONDA CR-V 2020 AND AGAIN A WEEK LATER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS WAS REVIEWED BY MY OWN MECHANIC AND SAID THAT THERE WAS WHOLE ON THE FUEL TANK. HONDA-CR-V LEAKS GAS WHEN TURNED ON. IT IS LEAKING LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS.
