The automatic braking system is activating automatically without any warning or any interference even though there is no vehicle or object in front it is happening all of a sudden and it a serious safety hazard and could cause major accident it is life threatening and I am very scared to drive it a life and death situation please look into this matter and have Honda fix this issue before it causes and deaths.

My car has been making noises and no checks engine light for about 4 weeks now. It has started on October 19, 2025 and tomorrow will make 1 month. The noise starts when I press the brakes and when I drive. When merging on highways the car would delay start when I press the gas and then it’ll jump or stutter twice before moving which is dangerous because I’m merging on to highways. I’ve been to several shops and they’ve all told me it’s the transmission and I will need a complete new one. I continued driving my car because I have no way getting to and from work and today November 15, 2025, it broke down while on the highway with my daughter and husband in the car. I had to wait for my car to decide to start moving while others behind me swerved into the other lane because of the sudden stop all while hoping no one would crash into us. It turned on and we were able to move off to the side slowly and again it shut off. The check engine light finally came on and when the tow truck came the guy inspected the vehicle and said what everyone else said there is a transmission problem and it popped up and said something about the transmission and the brake system. As far as the brakes the mechanics said the brake hardware is rubbing against the rotor on the front left side and I can’t brake hard while driving or it’ll make a loud noise or a hard sudden stop. I have to press lightly and way ahead of time so that I don’t run into any issues. When searching online I saw that 2023 Honda Crvs do have transmission problems and it’s happened to several others. The sudden stops, noises, and complete replacement of their transmission. Plenty of others had it covered by warranty but what about the others that don’t have warranty. I have not replaced my transmission as of yet because the mechanics I usually go to is closed on weekends so I will be waiting until Monday. This is dangerous and crazy and Honda needs to do a major recall before someone actually gets hurt.

While driving at 40 mph experienced sudden unexpected braking (car on its own) without driver pressing brake and no immediate car in front or changing lanes or any other noticeable object in immediate path. It was dangerous and could have caused a rear end collision. luckily it was 40mph no cars too close behind and our infants were not in the car. please look into this further

I was driving on Octuber 8th 2025. At 50 mph and the car made a sudden hard brake stop, and the brake orage light came on, the light that only turns on when it detect a car or something in front of the vehicle, the thing is nothing was in front of the vehicle, I am lucky that I didn't have cars behind me if not it would have cause a read end accident. This is very dangerous and I am super scared to drive the car now.

Car has, on more then one occasion, applied the emergency stopping breaks at times that may have caused an accident by themselves. Most often in heavier city traffic that can be unpredictable. Ie cars merging in quickly where they generally shouldn't

All my idiot lights appeared on my dashboard. My mechanic plugged in and nothing came up so I took it to White Plains Honda on Aug.5. They called me on Aug.14 and said my brake booster was bad. They said that they worked on trying to find the problem 12 hours. So with the diagnosis and part and labor, my cost is $5447+ tax. So I called Honda North America, got a case number. On Aug 26 Honda NA said that they can’t help me. My car is at Honda CRV Sport Hybrid 2023 with 47,440 miles on it. I’m over the 3 year or 36,000 miles and I do not have an extended warranty. Also on Aug 22, my service advisor said he could get the price down to $5,000. + tax. So I am lost on what to do

The contact owned a 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 50 MPH, the vehicle in front slowed down, the brake pedal was depressed but traveled down to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to respond and rear-ended the vehicle in front. The contact stated that the vehicle bounced and spun around, facing incoming traffic. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. The contact was unsure if any other vehicle had crashed into his vehicle. The driver-side air bag did not deploy; only the driver-side curtain air bag and the passenger-side air bags deployed. The contact was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The doctor diagnosed that the patient had sustained injury to the lower back; the L4 was severely damaged. The contact's chest and head hit the steering wheel. The contact underwent surgery and was scheduled for physical therapy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown towing yard. The insurance company was notified and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

Mar 23, 2025 Crash

I applied my brake pedal to slow for traffic just before entering a roundabout. I came nearly to a full stop, but then with my foot still on the brake pedal, the car surged forward as if I had floored the gas pedal. I kept pressing very hard on the brake pedal, but the car kept speeding forward. I was able to steer in between 2 oncoming cars without hitting them. My left front tire then hit the curb and the car bounced off a metal traffic sign post. I then went down a steep dirt embankment and crashed into a swale with some large rocks. My car finally came to a stop, rim deep in soft dirt just off the shoulder of the road. I did not notice any warning lights come on. I don't know what system malfunctioned, but it had something to do with fuel delivery and possibly the cruise control and automatic braking functions. I was very lucky I was not injured. This malfunction could have caused a serious and possibly a fatal crash. This malfunction put me and nearby motorists at risk of being hit by an out of control vehicle. I checked the floor mat and it was not displaced. There were no loose objects that could have affected the gas or brake pedals. The police officer accused me of stepping on the gas instead of the brake, but that was definitely not the case, regardless of what he may write in his report. The car is currently at a local collision repair shop. They will be checking with the code reader to see if any codes come up involving the fuel and braking systems. My insurance adjuster has inspected the car through photos taken by the repair shop. The shop is currently taking the car apart to assess further damage underneath. I am expecting a progress report tomorrow or Tuesday, March 25. This malfunction exactly fits the description of "Sudden Unexpected Acceleration". I have found 62 similar cases after a cursory internet search, so this is nothing new.

While driving the Automatic Emergency Braking System engaged for no reason. I was driving on [XXX] in NJ when another car passed me on the right . My car slammed the brakes on. The other car did not get in front of me but stayed in the right lane. If traffic was heavy this could have caused a major accident. Another instance I was driving on [XXX]. in Manahawkin, NJ and going around a bend in the road there was a parked car. My car slammed the brakes on. This has happened several other times also for no reason. Each time a warning sound went off. I brought the car in for service and reported it to Honda. They inspected it doing some type of scan and said there was no problem. The service advisor showed me how to turn the system off if I didn't feel safe. Yes my car is available for inspection and I am attaching the service report showing I did report it. I'm writing you because I read an article showing you are looking into this in other Honda cars and my car is not listed. Drove car for about 10 minutes, parked car while the engine was still running (approx 5 minutes) then began driving on 25 mph roadway with light traffic (4 lane road). After driving for a couple of minutes, I could no longer accelerate to maintain the speed, all the warning lights came on the instrument panel (see attached pictures for some of the alert messages), and a message came on the dash that said something along the lines that get off the roadway immediately but safely. Upon finding a parking lot about 0.5 mile away, it was very difficult to slow down as brake pedal felt hard- I had to slam on the brakes for it to begin coasting to a stop. Once parked, I turned off the car. When turning on the car again, all the warning lights came on and warning messages started to cycle through on the dash. My safety and the safety of others were greatly affected as I could not stop the vehicle adequately. When towed to the Honda dealership, the dealership was unable to reproduce the symptoms. The Honda Dealership said they would not diagnose the vehicle since it was modified by a QAP mobility equipment dealer. When towed to the mobility dealer, who installed adaptive equipment, they too were unable to reproduce the symptoms. The vehicle was inspected but no issues found with adaptive equipment. See attached invoices and photos of the warning lights.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle. The failure only occurred when the brake pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was test-driven but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to another local dealer, but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

Brakes have excessive squeel noise when applied. Taken to dealer(S) multiple occassions, Discovered that rear brakes/calipers had "excessive amounts of molykote under all pad shims. Pad shim coating was flaking off in large chunks. Abnormal discoloration in rotors found. " Noise continues, rotors damaged , Honda refuses warranty repair as " brakes are a normal wear item" . Issue was reported immeditely on vehicle delivery, has been taken to 2 different dealers,

While driving on a two lane road with no other vehicles and no objects on the road, the "Brake" warning light came on. Thankfully, the Collision Avoidance system didn't come on this time but if the warning had activated the Collision Avoidance in traffic, a rear end crash could have happened.

2/24/2024 I was in a library parking lot, going parking lot speed where children might be encountered. I turned right into a perpendicular parking space, no cars on either side. I went to brake as I approached the parking lot bumper and the car unexpectedly accelerated and would not stop. I crashed into a tree and metal pole, which stopped the car. I don't believe the car would have stopped without the tree and pole. I put the car in reverse and with difficulty backed back into the parking space. The right fender is severly damaged, right tire flat and I was unable to move the tires back to a straight position. The car cannot be driven. Yesterday, 2/23, I was at the dealers for oil change and tire rotation and was told there was a recall on the vehicle which required a softwear update. Reading my maintenance report it seems that this was an emissions recall, service bulletin 23-038 and the PGM-FI software was updated. This is a leased car which I got 3/31/23. No other cars or people or property were damaged or harmed. If this had happened near people and cars I fear that someone could have been killed or severe property damage would have occurred.

On December 10th 2023 I was involved in an accident that I believe was caused by a defect in the vehicle. I was traveling at night with low visibility due to rain on an old country road with no street lights. I was rear ended while making a right turn and at the time did not think much about it as far as how it happened. I just assumed the driver that hit me was just not paying attention. While on side of the road I heard the driver tell his dad that it was not his fault that I just slammed on brakes in front of him. I was like whatever, you were just not paying attention. A few days later I got to thinking about it, I was using B mode in the transmission along with the paddle shifters to increase the regenerative braking capabilities. The regenerative braking is strong enough to slow the car down almost to a complete stop. While in this mode I only have to apply the brake pedal when I am very close to a turn. So to any driver behind me it would appear that I slammed on brakes right at my turn, even though they were applied the whole time I was slowing down using the regenerative braking of the car. The car is still drivable at least for a road test so I had someone follow me around to see if there were brake lights displayed during regenerative braking. After one short drive I found out the 2023 CRV Hybrid DOES NOT display brake lights during any use of regenerative braking. I tried B mode in the transmission, Sport mode, and the paddle shifters. At no point did the brake lights come on. To see if this was just an issue with my car I went to the local dealership on December 28th and test drove a 2024 CRV Hybrid and it also DID NOT display any brake lights. To see if it was a Honda issue in general or a model issue I test drove a 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid and IT DOES display brake lights in all forms of regenerative braking. This is an issue with 2023-2024 CRV Hybrid SUVs. I have filed a complaint with Honda as well.

We were in a parking lot. When my husband (driver) put the car into reverse, it accelerated wildly, and the brakes would not work. We almost struck a pedestrian. We were able to put the car into park to stop it. We waited, checked to see if something was stuck under the pedal. Then my husband put the car into drive. It accelerated wildly again. Brakes did not work. We nearly struck a car. We waited. Finally, we thought the car was ok, and we attempted to leave the parking lot to head home. The car did it again. We called AAA and had the car towed to the nearest Honda dealership. It has been there for more than a week, and the service department is telling me that there is nothing wrong with the car. The American Honda rep told us the same thing.

Purchased vehicle June 15, 2023. On June 22, 2023, July 13, 2023, and July 29, 2023, the vehicle suddenly applied the brakes with a warning of BRAKE on the dashboard. This happened so suddenly that it nearly caused rear end collision from traffic behind. This was while driving at normal speeds on 2 lane road with double yellow line and traffic coming in opposite direction. But with no reason for the automatic braking. On November 20, 2023, this happened again under same conditions but with no other traffic on the road. After first incident returned to dealer and service advisor did something on the dashboard display and said he reduced the sensitivity of the system. Returned to dealer last Friday November 24 and left it there until Monday November 27. They could not reproduce the issue and so recommended turning off the system which they did. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Nov 11, 2023 Crash

I was braking pulling forward into a parking place, going approximately 10 mph. The brakes did not work , the car accelerated jumped a curb ran over a parking sign and did not stop. I attempted to turn to the left on the island so as not to go into the busy street. I scraped/ran into a small tree while trying to put the car in park. I heard a large bang, 3 airbags deployed. I do not know if I ran over something, nothing was in my sight or view. Due to all of the smoke I quickly turned off the car and tried to get out. My left underside forearm had a 5”x3 1/2” bruise with swelling at the largest area and pain. The swelling is approximately 2 1/2” x2 1/2”. The mid to right side of my chest was injured extending to my right side with pain and bruising on and under my right breast. I went by ambulance to an ER. I am alarmed and traumatized. I have been experiencing lightheadedness since the accident. I have had headaches. The car took off as I was attempting to stop. I had NO control of the vehicle and could not bring it to a stop. There were no warning messages etc. If people were near or in front of me it would have been catastrophic, I had no control. There is a police report. My car is to be examined by the insurance company. My understanding is that it will be considered “totaled “. I reported the accident to Honda who I lease from. I was told that it could be “a software problem “. When the car malfunctioned I had just left my home , driving for the first time that day. My first stop was driving a couple of blocks to vote. I do not know how to upload pictures or the accident report. I have pictures of the car from the tow lot. After returning from the hospital I took pictures of the site to include the downed sign, damaged tree and broken car pieces in the driveway. I retrieved 2 large pieces of the car from the driveway.

I was driving in the left lane of a two lane street. Due to construction, the right hand lane had orange construction barrels. All of a sudden, alarms went off, in RED LETTERS the word BRAKE! appeared on my dashboard and the car automatically braked - hard. There was no obstruction of any kind in my lane. All the items on my seats flew to the floor. The seat belt wrenched me back. I now have a mild sore shoulder, neck and back. If someone had been following me, they certainly would have hit me due to the sudden, unexplained stop. The incident was very shocking and scary, since there was no obstruction of any kind in my lane, it took me totally by surprise. As I travelled, I was in no danger. The only danger would be if I suddenly stopped, which my car automatically did! I will be sure to turn this "safety" feature off in the future. This was a failure of the automatic Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). The system was activated when no danger was present. I did not contact a mechanic or the manufacturer, as I question whether my complaint would be taken seriously.

I was pulling into a parking space at my work parking lot, where I have been parking my car for the past 2.5 years. I was slowly parking the CRV, my foot was not applying any pressure on the gas, I was slowly easing into the parking space and as I was putting my foot on the brake to stop, it was very hard as if it was locked and the car kept going. I couldn't stop the SUV and it jumped the curb/went over the plants and crashed into a building/shattering glasses , frames, furniture and appliances as it hit the wall beam and stopped. to The Honda emergency brake system did not activate to stop the vehicle. I had no control of the vehicle as I frantically tried to brake- it was locked. I have reported a claim to State Farm insurance company and to Honda Claims. The Auburn, CA police came to the scene and completed a report. Honda just took the facts of loss and did not conduct any investigation. My insurance company has yet to inspect the vehicle or transfer the vehicle to a Honda dealership to rule out manufacturer defect.It is sitting at their preferred shop Caliber Collision of Rocklin, for the damage to be assessed.

My car's emergency brake failed to work and my car's rear slid downhill into a 90 degree angle. The front passenger bumper of my car hit the front driver bumper of the car parked behind me. This happened while I was parallel parking in front of my home, which is on right side of a street with an uphill incline. I turned my car's front wheels away from the curb, which is why my car's rear spun into a 90 degree angle. There is a small driveway between my car and the car behind me, which is why my car had the space to spin and slide into 90 degree angle in the middle of the street. I could have sworn my car was shifted to park, but it's possible that I was shifted to reverse or neutral. I almost 100% sure that I initiated my emergency parking break and that it failed to turn on. I had started to exit the driver side door and my legs were outside of the car already when I noticed the car to slide backwards. I panicked and I tried to get back into the car, but I couldn't. My legs were dragged across the street. I have some minor injuries such as bumps, cuts and bruises. My car stopped from sliding when it hit the car behind me. I could have been seriously injured. There should have been some "fail safe" to prevent me from exiting the car when it's possible it could start to move. I'm considering selling my car because of this issue.

May 5, 2023 Crash

I was pulling up to the Subway sandwich shop to pick up my lunch. I was approaching from their back ally (coming from Walgreens next door) so I could not have been going faster than a few miles per hour. As I approached the parking space the car started speeding up so I turned right to keep from going through the building and drove in circles to keep from hitting the buildings. I could not go onto the street because traffic was heavy. I kept pumping the brakes and the car did not stop until I hit a parked car and pushed that car into another car. All airbags deployed. My 16 year old grandson and I were injured, but no individuals were in the parked cars.
