I am submitting this complaint regarding a sudden and unsafe CVT transmission failure on my Honda vehicle. While driving, the vehicle began shaking violently, lost the ability to accelerate, and multiple warning indicators illuminated, including the check engine light. The vehicle was unable to be driven safely and had to be towed. A diagnostic inspection performed by an authorized Honda dealership confirmed CVT failure consistent with Honda Service Bulletin #21-047, including the presence of transmission belt material in the fluid. This failure mode is documented by Honda as a known manufacturing defect that can cause loss of power and drivability. I contacted Honda Corporate Customer Relations and opened a case on 12/3. Despite multiple communications, Honda has denied goodwill or warranty assistance solely based on warranty expiration, without addressing the documented defect or the safety implications. I specifically requested that Honda provide a written explanation detailing the technical basis for denying coverage on this safety-related failure. Honda has not provided any written denial or defect analysis. I am submitting this complaint to ensure the incident and defect are formally documented for safety review. Case #: 16018708

Driving on interstate when vehicle suddenly downshifted resulting in lurch slowdown and high engine rpms. Pulled to median. Shift indicator light flashes, dash Brake System warning light flashes, Parking system warning lights, check engine light on. Attempted to drive to nearby dealer for troubleshooting. Vehicle drives when put into gear, but must paddle shift into higher gears. After couple seconds automatically downshifts again. Paddle shifting will shift into higher gear, but returns to lower gears automatically. Shop says transmission test shows P271E, 83-16 warning error so transmission must have failed.

Transmission belt failure at ~100k+ miles. This incident occurred after the recall repair for the software update related to the transmission. Most hazard indicators switched on, vehicle could not go over 50 miles per hour. Took vehicle into honda service center. They determined it to be a transmission failure.

Belt inside CVT transmission has failed. Numerous broken shards of metal in fluid and surrounding parts. Cost to replace $7,500 avg.

While driving on a highway the vehicle with no warning seemed to lose all power and multiple warning dashboard lights came on. We were able to pull to the side of the highway which did not have a full size break down lane. The vehicle was towed to a nearby dealer who reported that the transmission had failed completely. There were no noticeable signs or warnings of transmission failure or any other problem prior to this incident with the vehicle. We were on a single lane highway at the time and we were able to pull to the side but on the same trip had been on multiple lane highways and it would have been difficult to navigate multiple lanes to pull to the side of the road with the loss of power.

Transmission failure. It is available for inspection upon request. While driving on major highways, I could have been at risk of a crash. I took the vehicle to Honda to confirm the transmission belt stretched. The insurance refused to inspect it. No warning lamps, messages, or other. I went over a railroad crossing and suddenly heard the transmission grinding gears.

I press down on the gas pedal and it seems to not go. I have the transmission light, the parking light and brake lights on the dashboard

On or about June of 2024 my vehicle just lost power and was in limp mode. Took it to the dealership. Said there was a recall on a computer program for the cvt transmission that needed updating so the transmission wouldn't break. They did the recall but transmission was already broke. I bought the car July 2023 and was unaware of any issues or recalls and didn't receive nothing in the mail to advise if a recall to prevent the cvt transmission from breaking. I'm still paying on the car and can't drive it because the cvt transmission is broke from a recall that was not fixed and I didn't get anything letting me know to get it fixed. Said the recall would fix a broke transmission under 7 years or 150000 miles. Well the car was 1 year over but I was never aware of a recall and didn't receive any notice of a recall.

I was entering the highway when without warning, my car stopped moving. I hurriedly shifted into Park so I would not drift into the highway, and thankfully I was able to safely drift into the exit lane. I tried to troubleshoot by turning the engine off and shifting into neutral to move the car out of the way, but it was completely undrivable. At 115,000 miles, this came as a shock to me, as I purchased my first Honda because of its reliable reputation. I had recently gotten my anti-theft system repaired, as well as a state inspection at a local Honda dealership, and there was no indication that there was a problem with the transmission. I researched the issue and accessed my service records, and I found that the problem was with the CVT transmission and that I was not alone. I pride myself on the regular maintenance of my vehicles and keep meticulous records, and while I waited on the diagnosis, I found the records on the steps taken to address this problem: -Notification from Honda about the extended warranty (10 years, 150k miles) in 2021 -Software update was performed on July 22nd, 2021 to update the PCM software to warn of premature CVT belt deterioration. From the Service Bulletin 21-046, “DTC P271E is added so at the early stages of a CVT primary belt failure, the D light will flash, the MIL will come on, and engine power output will be reduced. This will lessen the chances of an unexpected, sudden loss of acceleration and allow the customer an opportunity to get the vehicle to a Honda dealer”. The service tech told me the CVT belt had snapped, destroying the transmission, just as the service bulletin had forewarned. During this incident, there was NO indication that my transmission was going bad - no MIL light, no flashing D light, no slippage, no reduction of engine power, or verbal warning when my car was serviced last. The software update that was intended to warn me of this very occurrence failed miserably.

I am writing to express my frustration and seek assistance regarding an ongoing issue with my 2016 Honda HR-V. I am the original owner of the vehicle, and I have been experiencing intermittent problems with the transmission for quite some time. Specifically, I have noticed erratic behavior with the dash lights and gear selector, showing various letters as we drive. While the issue would occasionally resolve on its own, it persisted over time, and I contacted the dealership multiple times to inquire about the problem. Unfortunately, every time I reached out to the dealer or visited in person; I was told that they could not analyze the issue unless the problem was occurring while the vehicle was at the dealership. Initially, I thought the issue was related to the brakes, as indicated by the warning light. I replaced the brakes and rotors, but the problem persisted. On December 29th, my family (two adults and two young children) were on a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire when the transmission problem became frequent and severe. With no Honda dealership within 60 miles, the vehicle stopped working while in the middle of an intersection. The engine was fine and all fluids were topped off, the vehicle would no longer engage any gear. We were stranded in an isolated area, had to arrange for a tow, and spent nearly $500 to return home that day. The next morning, a local mechanic, informed me that the 2016 Honda HR-V is known to have transmission issues. Honda had extended the warranty for this issue to 150,000 miles. As the original owner, I was never informed of this extended warranty, and upon calling Honda Customer Care, I was told a notice had been mailed to the registered address on file. I never received such a notice, and after researching in Honda owner forums, it appears many other owners have had the same experience. Honda has denied my claim. I feel the manufacture and dealers should have informed owners of this defect before jeopardizing my family

I purchases my 2016 Honda HRV in 2019, used from . On [XXX] driving home my cars lights started lighting up like a Xmas tress and it sounded like something was wrong with my transmission. After bringing it to a local mechanic in Hopkins, they stated it was a CVT transmission issue and it would need to go to a Honda dealership, so we brought it to Luther Hopkins Honda. During this time my husband and I did some research on the transmission for the 2016-2020 Honda HRV's, and apparently starting in June of 2021, a bulletin and recall was sent out specifically pertaining to this issue of early deterioration of the CVT drive belt, they extended the warranty to 7 years/150k, whichever comes first. There was a software update that should have been done, and also if the belt did fail they would fix the issue. I NEVER received any of these bulletins or recall notices in the mail. My car IS registered. When I previously owned a Ford I got recall notices all the time. Luther Hopkins Honda (Andres Decaroli) on 8/13 said YES the transmission problem with my car is due to the CVT recall/issue, but because my car was 1 year out of the extended warranty Honda may not fix the transmission. Which out of pocket would cost me $8600! The next day Wednesday [XXX], a service director named Caroline texted me stating they sent the request to Honda, and hope to hear something Wed night or Thurs, and they will "fight the good fight for you". I never did hear anything on Wed or Thurs, and on Friday I texted her and tried to call her to get any info, and each time it went to her VM. I also tried to get in contact with Andres as well with no luck, Friday night I left a message prior to them closing with a manager named Michelle. NO one called me back. On Saturday 8/17 I called AGAIN demanded someone call me back to give me some form of update. Finally a manager named Justin called me, and stated that Caroline was out on Friday (no one told us this). I want Honda to honor the recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF I

Jul 30, 2024

The cap to the transmission came out which apparently is an issue with the cap getting smaller and popping out which made the oil all come out of the top and covered the parts in the car. This caused the vehicle needing a new transmission now!

The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 21-046. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 107,000.

I was driving to work on the freeway when my CVT belt failed. It was very scary. My vehicle lost power and did not want to continue driving. This was scary on the freeway going approximately 65-70mph. At the time this occurred the check engine light came on, the brake light came on, the brake system light came on, and it was flashing “park”. This was really scary because none of these lights were on when I started my vehicle that morning and up until this issue occurred my vehicle was driving fine, no issues, no warning lights and no other symptoms indicating a problem. Losing power on the busy freeway where all other vehicles were traveling just as fast if not faster than me could have been very dangerous and this should be considered a safety concern by Honda. The vehicle was diagnosed by Honda and confirmed CVT belt failure within the transmission. There is an active recall for this issue but my VIN is not included. I’ve been told by Honda that they recommend replacing the transmission.

I was driving on the interstate in cruise, the car engine started revving hard. My speed jumped up to 85mph. Then all of a sudden the vehicle jerked hard and I lost all acceleration. The car rapidly decelerated. Then, the power steering, check engine, vehicle stability assist, electric parking brake, and low tire pressure lights all came on. As well as the gear indicator was unable to show if I was in drive, park, or neutral. The vehicle became very sluggish and started stuttering I had to carefully navigate between other cars flying past me until I was able to get to the side of the road, I was almost hit 3 times, once by a semi-truck. Once I got it to the side of the road I was unable to get the car to move at all. The engine would rev but the car would not move. The car was towed to the local Honda dealer in Evansville, IN. The dealership said that the CVT transmission belt had shattered and that the transmission needed to be replaced. I asked them about the TSB Number: [XXX]. They stated that I am out of the 7-year / 150k mile extended warranty so it is going to cost $7,662 to replace it. The vehicle has only 72,000 on it. I could have been killed or severely injured when this happened on the interstate. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving, the car engine started revving hard. Then, the power steering, vehicle stability assist, electric parking brake, check engine, and low tire pressure lights all came on. The vehicle became very sluggish and would start stuttering around 3k rpm or 40mph. The dealership said that the transmission needs to be replaced and that I am out of the 7-year / 150k mile extended warranty so it is going to cost $8,300. The vehicle has 100k miles on the odometer. This is very disappointing.

Check engine light came on, gear selector light was flashing and all dash board lights came on at 150,189 miles. The dealer attempted to repair the transmission by replacing the valve body. The car was driven 29 miles before all dash warning lights came back on. Dealer said the only repair was to replace the entire transmission, which includes a new valve body. Dealer said the codes recommended the replacement. The transmission was replaced at 114,193 miles under a recall. The transmission failure was after the 150,000 warranty extension. Honda is replacing transmissions in the HRV with rebuilt transmissions that will fail again.

Nov 21, 2023

Driving 80 mph on the freeway and the car entered limp mode, decelerated to 40 mph with all lights illuminated on the dash. All signs pointed to the CVT belt deterioration that is plaguing this make and model vehicle. Towed 100 miles to the same Honda Service department that performed the recall earlier this year and they were supposed to have inspected for metal fragments in the engine. I informed the mechanic of the service bulletin and warranty extension, as they were entirely oblivious to it. Told them to check for metal shavings. They run diagnostics, and recommend a transmission flush. I say, ok, but send me a picture if you find the metal shavings in the plug. They perform flush- reboots the computer and yet again, all the lights come back on the dash. Finally they pull the transmission oil plug to find…….metal shavings. Car is at 112,000 miles and nearing the end of the 7 year extended warranty. Not at all what I was expecting from a Honda.

Nov 13, 2023

The CVT transmission was replaced under a recall at 114k miles. The replacement transmission failed at 150,180 miles, which is 180 miles outside of the extended warranty. Honda declined to repair/replace the transmission a second time. I took it in because the dashboard lights were flashing. The dealer replaced the valve body at my cost and the lights came back on just 29 miles into driving it. When stopped at a red light, the car gets stuck in neutral. A new transmission is now needed per the dealer’s diagnosis. The car is unsafe to drive and the replacement transmission was obviously not a reliable upgrade from the recalled transmission.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the engine revved loudly, and the vehicle started shuddering and decelerated unintendedly. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he continued driving; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond as needed while attempting to drive from a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: 21-047. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle had exceeded the 7-year warranty period. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

10-10-2023 car went into limp mode on intersate - took to shop - they thought it was alternator - happened a second time - on interstate. Took to the honda dealer and after a few days they diagnosed with CVT Transmission Failure. the car is a 2016 with 95,000 miles on it. I purchased a Honda for longevity, and this is unacceptable. I'm hoping the extension of warranty will include mine since i'm barely beyond the 7 year extension.

Oct 14, 2023

I pulled on to the road and heard an awful gravely grating noise coming from the vehicle. No dash warning lights/indicators were illuminated at this time, which led me to think it was potentially a tire/suspension type issue. I let off of the accelerator and the noise stopped. There were still no dash warning indicators on, and I was in the lane of travel with vehicles approaching from behind, so I gently pressed the accelerator to attempt to get off the road to investigate and the noise returned. The vehicle seemed to not be accelerating as expected and it appeared that the speedometer needle kind of floated, at which point everything locked up immediately. All dash light warning indicators came on, and the gear indicator was unreadable (almost like it was displaying P and N at the same time) despite the vehicle gear shift still being in drive. I attempted again to gently accelerate to get out of the lane of travel but the vehicle did not move, however the speedometer needle did. I shut off the car and turned it back on, all dash indicator warnings returned and remained illuminated, and I was able to get the vehicle to move a very short distance so that I was mostly out of the lane of travel. I attempted to put the vehicle in reverse so that I could get completely out of the lane of travel which was unsuccessful. Vehicle was towed to a Honda dealership where it was diagnosed with a "complete CVT belt failure with catastrophic loss of the transmission". In June of 2021 I received a recall letter stating that there was a programming issue that was leading to premature deterioration of the CVT belt ultimately causing transmission failure. My vehicle was seen shortly thereafter at a Honda dealership, where the computer programming update was completed. The letter stated that the warranty coverage on the CVT had been extended to 7 years from the date of purchase due to this issue and the known result. Honda did keep their word and replaced the CVT at no cost to me.

Transmission failure. Took 3 Visits for them to locate problem. Yes it is available for inspection until Aug.14,2023. Honda cannot fix it any earlier for they have no loaner cars for me. The car jerks when doing 20/25 mph. Excelerates slowly.I was driving on hwy when the car just slowed down with trucks behind me. No safe at all. I informed Metro Honda I need to go to work, they told me I can drive it but not too far. That’s a terrible answer! So I’m still at risk for my safety! Yes the problem has been confirmed by the dealer I have an appointment Aug.14, 2023. Yes there were warnings when the cat first started failing I brought it to Honda service 2x first they said my mat was in the way of the pedals.then they said the trans fluid needed changing, noon finally they admit there’s a problem. The mechanic does not know what he’s doing.

CVT transmission failure. It’s important and unsafe when your vehicles stops in the middle of the road without any sign of warning. No power to move just completely stops running. This puts many lives in danger if it were to have happened in the middle of the highway, especially in contruction block off zones. I am sure Dealerships are aware of this issue. The dealership were the ones to inform me that my vehicle’s CVT transmission belt deteriorated. No warning signs at all just complete stop and loss of power to run. Vehicle turns on without a problem but does not drive or move forward. I even did my oil transmission change and was not told some debris of metal was present at the moment of service. Not until two years later that the vehicle finally stopped moving foward and me taking it to the dealership to find out it was the CVT belt which is the whole transmission inside that broke and needs replacement. I find it strange that the warranty was extended two more years on it without me being informed on it. My warranty expired and the dealership did not honor to have my vehicle fixed due to warranty being expired by 3 months past due the 7 year warranty. Had I known the first time it had issues it would have fallen in time of warranty, I would have asked for a new transmission. I hope this does not happen to others in the highway as this is a hazardous safety concern.

Driving smoothly 67 mph on 210 freeway in Azusa California car suddenly lost acceleration in heavy traffic..steered car 4 lanes over than exited off ramp. Car had some low acceleration all warning lights flashing on my dash..none made any indication what's wrong..had car towed to honda..said it was the transmission! Honda had recall before this..took it in..they adjusted it but when i got it back it was reving too high rpm at 65 mph took it back again and they said it was fine..i don't think so than this happened!

Jul 14, 2023

July 11, 2023, 2016 HR-V stalled in the middle of the freeway at night, upon every restart the HRV will only engage Drive into 1st gear and disengage when it is attempting to switch to higher, most if not all dash warning lights turned on - only at this point, no prior notices/warnings when this happened, then almost got rammed by oncoming traffic multiple times. We had to have the car crawl forward 5 seconds at a time to reach a safe area out the next exit. We had the 2016 HR-V towed to the nearest Honda Center. Need HELP getting this fixed, and inform the public about the danger it can cause, I called (7/12/23) American Honda, and they said over the phone that they took care of it during a 2021 CVT reprogramming, American Honda have data that software reprogramming was applied per my conversation with an agent, Honda service tech reports of metal shavings present inside transmission and it needs get a new transmission. The reprogramming was not enough, I really doubt that the recall diagnosis and intervention was applied correctly. It is the second day in the Honda Center and the service tech requested for another day to research the matter, they were leaning to the idea that we are out of warranty and wants to have us pay for a replacement transmission. The CVT recall was supposed to cover 7 years/150000 miles, which ever comes first. we just reached 7 years/120000 and they are leaning towards denying us of the warranty service, clearly the transmission was faulty and Honda's initial fix was inefficient and downright dangerously criminal. I have never seen my wife so scared in my life, and she has a heart condition. We promoted this HRV since we liked it, even had a friend and an aunt buy them, We do not wish to have loved ones experience the risks and unsafe nature of the Honda HR-V.

Without warning, my transmission imploded yesterday while driving on the freeway. Car was on for less than 15 minutes

Mar 30, 2023

Transmission completely failed while driving. Was able to complete the extended warranty update for known transmission issues prior to exceeding the 150K mileage. I am not convinced the dealer looked for signs of wear at the time of updating the software.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while driving up an incline an abnormal scraping sound was coming from the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted about the issue and the contact was informed of an unknown recall on the transmission. The VIN tool showed no recalls on her vehicle. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

May 5, 2022

When driving on the highway, my vehicle accelerated very suddenly despite me not having put additional pressure on the gas pedal, as I was at a cruising speed of about 65 mph. Immediately after accelerating, my vehicle began to quickly decelerate, so much so that I had to veer over to the shoulder so as not to cause a collision with other vehicles on the road. It decelerated despite my foot still pressing on the gas pedal. In addition, the lights on my dash lit up and some began flashing. I took my vehicle into the dealership to discover that the computer system required an update and my transmission belt had deteriorated so much that it needed to be replaced. I was assured by the dealership that I would not experience this issue again after these repairs had been made. Since then, I have taken my vehicle to the dealership with this same issue an additional 3 times. Even after these multiple attempts at repair, this issue still has not been resolved. I am no longer comfortable driving this vehicle as it has shut down on the highway on more than one occasion now. I cannot in good faith be on the road knowing that this could occur again at any moment, causing a safety risk not only to myself, but to others around me as well.

Mar 11, 2022

The vehicle was driving normally, with no knocking, no warning light indicators, etc. When attempting to accelerate from a stop, there was a “bang” under the hood, multiple warning lights came on and the vehicle would not move, although the engine was running. The vehicle was stranded in the middle of traffic. The dealership said the transmission blew up and there was metal shards in the fluids.

Oct 13, 2021

The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle was unable to accelerate. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing transmission and transfer case replaced. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

My car suddenly stopped going into gear. When the hood was opened by a mechanic, he found that the transmission plug was sitting on top of the transmission. Honda issued a Service Alert in September of 2019 that the cap for the fill plug was known to dislodge from the transmission for Honda Civic, Honda Fit and Honda HR-V. For my vehicle, the issue was known to affect HR-V models 2016-2018. This is on top of the recent recall notice I recently received concerning the CVT Transmission. I now need a new transmission as my car will not go into gear despite having the transmission flushed and refilled. Honda knew about the defect and warned no one of this issue other than their internal people. My car had roughly 85k miles on it at the time of the incident.

Sep 10, 2021

(August 2021, mileage less than 68000) I was experiencing some type of transmission squeaking/slipping and at the same time received a notice from Honda Motor to go to a dealer and perform a SW upgrade to fix the transmission issue that was Honda fully aware , I went to the dealer and performed a SW upgrade for my HR-V. Right after the upgrade I notice that my transmission became much more rigid/stiff. I thought it will go away after some driving. After driving less than 300 miles the transmission belt broke while I was at a stop light waiting and the moment I start to move and press gas pedal, my transmission belt broke and I could not move, Immediate it came to my mind that it must have been for the Soft Ware upgrade. The car engine revs but not moving at all. I was stuck on the road. No warning lamp or nothing warned me before this situation happened. It was really a scaring moment. I took the car right to dealership and after inspection they told me that the transmission is gone and I need new transmission. They found metal shaving in the transmission.

7/10: On a highway, the car lost speed, and all warning lights on the dashboard started flashing. The car would not change gears, decided to place it to the side of the road and tow it to Westshore honda. The start button was replaced, and there was no charge due to a recall that covered the fees. No other urgent action required my attention, and I left.was About 15-20 minutes after leaving, while on a busy highway plus it was raining, the same issue happened. It was terrifying to lose the power speed. I drove home safely using offside roads and flashing emergency lights at less than 40 miles. On 7/13-14, I was able to book time at Lakeland's Regal Honda to have my car checked once again. No one called me back until the following day. Regal honda gave an estimate of over 7000. No explanation on what the issue was, just that my transmission needed to be replaced. My car is about 65000 miles and just passed the 5-year mark, so I do not have a warranty. The car is only used on the weekends and I have done all the service needed since I bought it, I've been the only owner. I expressed my shock that a car with this many miles is having issues with the transmission, the service provided said he was going to contact Honda corporate to see what they could do. They charge me $89. I then took my car to Joyce Automotive repair in Lakeland, their diagnostic found codes U0401-68 ECM FAILURE and U0402-68 TCM FAILURE. Unfortunately, they cannot program Honda computers and I have to bring the car back to the dealership. Cost $71 7/15 After extensive research online, (ie https://www.hrvforum.com/threads/transmission-problems.40399/) I discovered this is a popular issue for many honda customers, especially in 2016 owners. I am in fear of my safety and others that do not know or do not get support from honda. Now I have a parked car with no feasible and economical solution and it is frustrating Honda can get away with this. My ask, is for you to do a thorough investigation, Thanks

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY DASH LIGHTS ALL LIT AND MY CAR STOPPED WORKING. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND A PLUG HAD BEEN BLOWN OFF MY TRANSMISSION AND SPILLED FLUID ALL ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. 2016 HONDA HR-V 117,000 MILES. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN SUDDENLY I WENT TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR JUST REVVED AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL, AND LOTS OF SERVICE LIGHTS TURNED ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I WAS LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION IN THE DARK, TRYING TO PUSH MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER. VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE CAR TO JUST STOP WORKING LIKE THAT WITH NO SIGNS. ONCE I GOT THE CAR HOME, I DRAINED THE CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NOTICED A LOT OF METAL ON THE DRAIN PLUG MAGNET. I ALSO NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION FILL PLUG WAS ALSO POPPED OUT ( WHICH HONDA IS AWARE OF, JUST FAILS TO INFORM CUSTOMER'S ) HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN VERY HARD TO FIND SOMEONE TO TALK TOO. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN QUALITY OF PARTS COMING FROM A SUPPOSED REPUTABLE/RELIABLE BRAND.

SO I BOUGHT MY HONDA HRV 2016 ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO AND IT SEEMS AND I JUST STARTED FEELING TODAY THAT EVERY TIME I STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AND I THEN PROCEED TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE STARTS VIBRATING AT AROUND 1,500 RPM. IM PRETTY SURE THIS IS NOT NORMAL AS I HAVE OWNED 3 VEHICLES AND NONE HAVE ACTED LIKE THIS. IVE ALSO NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THESE TRANSMISSION ISSUES I FEEL THAT THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY HONDA TO AVOID ACCIDENTS OR ANYTHING WORSE FROM HAPPENING. IM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HOW SUCH A GREAT COMPANY LIKE HONDA DOESNT HANDLE SOMETHING SO SERIOUS LIKE THESE TRANSMISSION ISSUES.

I TOOK IT IN FOR THE 100,000 MILE CHECK UP AND WHEN THEY STARTED TO CHANGE THE FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION THEY STOPPED BECAUSE THERE WAS LARGE CHUNKS OF METAL COMING OUT. I WAS TOLD THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT A PRODUCT FATIGUE. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM AND HONDA CUSTOMERS SERVICE. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA WOULD NOT HELP ME AT ALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT MODEL AND THEY COULD NOT HELP. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I FOUND QUITE A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT ISSUES WITH THE 2016 HONDA HRV SOME OF WHICH WERE TRANSMISSION. MINE IS THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE TRANSMISSION SO BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACE. THIS WAS MY FIRST HONDA THAT I'VE EVER BOUGHT. MY WIFE WANTED ONE BECAUSE OF THEIR DEPENDABILITY. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM A COMPANY THAT DOES NOT STANDBY THEIR PRODUCT. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHANGED AT 53,000 MILES. I TALKED TWO TRANSMISSION PLACES AND BOTH GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER. YOU CANNOT WORK ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS YOU EITHER HAVE TO BUY A USED ONE OR PURCHASE A NEW ONE. ESTIMATED COST FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE ABOUT $8600.

TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 66,559 MILES. I HEARD A NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING ON THE LAST PART OF A TRIP FROM FL TO WI. A FEW DAYS AFTER ARRIVING HOME IN WI, I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN I SUDDENLY HAD NO DRIVE CAPABILITY. THE ENGINE ONLY REVVED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. AFTER A TOW TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE 2016 HR-V. I'M ONLY GLAD IT FAILED IN A PARKING LOT NEAR HOME INSTEAD OF ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE IT MAY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT OR FAR FROM HOME WHERE I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED.

IN MONTH LEADING UP TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE NOTICED CAR MY HONDA HRV 2016 SOUNDED DIFFERENT ON ACCELERATION. WAS TAKEN TO HONDA DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS ONE OF THE BELT PULLEYS. DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT AND I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. COST APPROXIMATELY $500. THE ABNORMAL SOUND CONTINUED. WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I POSSIBLY HAD MICE OR RATS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND ASKED ME IF I LIVED IN THE COUNTRY OR IN TOWN. OR IF I PARKED CAR IN GARAGE OR OUTSIDE. ABOUT MONTH LATER WAS ON INTERSTATE AND HAD ALL WARNING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AT ONCE AND CAR WAS UNABLE TO TRANSMIT POWER FROM ENGINE TO DRIVE TRAIN. HAD TO PULL OVER FROM INTERSTATE TRAFFIC AND CALL TOW TRUCK. IT WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY STATED THERE WAS METAL FRAGMENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. PROBLEM STARTED AND ABOUT 90000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 120000. TOTAL REPAIRS INCLUDING WRONGLY REPLACED BELT PULLY WERE OVER $6500.

I WAS DRIVING A LONG 80 MILES FROM MY HOME WITH MY TWO CHILDREN, THANKFULLY I HAD JUST EXITED A CONGESTED MAJOR HIGHWAY SOUTH OF DC. WITH ZERO WARNING I LOST ALL POWER, LIGHTS ON DASH WERE ON AND FLASHING AND COULD BARELY GET FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ABOUT 5 MILES FROM ANY STATION AS THERE WAS ONLY COMMUTER PARKING LOTS AND SAND DUNES AND A DISTANT NEIGHBORHOOD. I HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK AS IT GOT DARK, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. I HAD A MECHANIC I TRUST COME TAKE A LOOK AND HE DETERMINED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING ACID. HE REPLACED IT AND TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE AND SHORTLY IT BEGAN TO FLASH LIGHTS AND SHOW NEUTRAL AND WAS IN WHAT HE CALLED, LIMP MODE. I HAD IT TOWED TO HONDA WHERE THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSIS, I WAS THEN TOLD THEY WOULD NEED TO DRAIN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THERE THEY FOUND CHUNKS OF METAL AND TOLD ME MY TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT. MY VEHICLE HAD 77,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD MAYBE THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOT TAKE CARE OF IT, BUT THE TRUTH LIES ON THIS SITE WHERE I HAVE READ NOW NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME EXACT CHAIN OF EVENTS. I WAS TOLD I WILL NEED TO REPLACE IT FOR $6200 FROM HONDA, I THEN CONTIMPLATED A NEW PURCHASE AS I AM ALREADY UPSIDE DOWN ON MY CAR LOAN. THIS IS A DISPICABLE THING FOR HONDA TO DO TO IT'S LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND I DECLINED A NEW CAR AND HAVE TOLD THE MANAGER I WILL NO LONGER DO BUSINESS WITH HONDA ESPECIALLY NOW SEEING THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES TO HONDA.

WHILE DRIVING 40-45 MPH, THE CVT TRANSMISSION CEASED ALL FUNCTIONS. THERE WAS NOTHING LEADING UP TO THIS. THE ENGINE WAS FINE, BUT THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED MOVING THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST ABOUT TO MERGE INTO THE HIGHWAY! THE DEALERSHIP FOUND "METAL PIECES" IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID (WHICH HAS BEEN CHANGED WITH OEM FLUID AT EVERY RECOMMEND INTERVAL).

8/1/2020: AT 65 MPH THE ENGINE STARTED VIBRATING, WHEN ACCELERATED TO 75MPH ENGINE STALLS, RPM RAPIDLY INCREASED TO ~5000 AND COLLAPSED. LOST FORWARD MOMENTUM AND OUTPUT FROM THE ENGINE. MULTIPLE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON (POWER STEERING, TIRE PRESSURE WARNING, BREAK SYSTEM LIGHTS, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ETC. CAME ON). VEHICLE WAS ON THE ACTIVE LANE, PUT IN NEUTRAL AND STEERED TO THE SHOULDER. UNABLE TO GET THE CAR MOVING AGAIN AFTER TURNING OFF AND ON. AFRAID THAT I WAS GOING TO LOSE AC IN THE 108F HEAT IF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT TURN ON AGAIN SO I LEFT IT AT THAT UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVES.THE CAR HAD TO BE LEFT OVERNIGHT BECAUSE DEALERSHIP CLOSE SUNDAY. 8/2/2020: THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL FROM SUPERSTITION HONDA REGARDING THE VEHICLE'S DIAGNOSIS. WAS INFORMED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS CODE OBSERVED WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION START PUSH BUTTON THAT NEEDED REPLACING. I GAVE CONSENT TO THE SERVICE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION BUTTON. 8/3/2020: AFTER I WENT TO SUPERSTITION HONDA TO PICK UP THE CAR. I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAKE THE CAR ONTO HIGHWAY 60 AND GOT UP TO THE STATED SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH WHEN THE SAME SYMPTOMS APPEARED. VEHICLE STALLED AT SPEED, RPM RAPIDLY INCREASED TO ~5000 BEFORE COLLAPSING. I WAS IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER AT THE AREA WHERE I CAME TO A STOP ON THE HIGHWAY, THEREFORE I WAS STATIONARY PARTIALLY IN THE ACTIVE LANE.THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT GAVE ANY INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE HAPPENED OUT OF NO WHERE. AFTER RETURNING TO SUPERSTITION HONDA, I LEFT THE VEHICLE ON AND HAD IT DIAGNOSE BEFORE TURNING THE CAR OFF. WAS EVENTUALLY INFORMED THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE METAL FRAGMENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND THAT THE METAL FRAGMENTS ALSO DAMAGED A PRESSURE SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A BUSY NEIGHBORHOOD STREET WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STOPPED AND DIDN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE ANYMORE. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OR LIGHTS . SO WITH THE MOMENTUM LEFT IN THE CAR I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THIS WAS A VERY STRESSFUL AND DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND CARS WERE COMING FULL SPEED BEHIND ME. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITH NO MAJOR INJURIES. I HAD TO TOW MY CAR HOME AND THEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY MADE ME PAY FOR LOOKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID . THEY FOUND METAL SHAVINGS AND DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION WAS NO LONGER GOOD. IMPORTANT TO NOTE, THAT ALL MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN DONE AND MULTIPOINT INSPECTIONS UP TO DATE. I HAVE NOW DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION . VARIOUS HR-V FORUMS ARE REPORTING THIS ISSUE AND HONDA IS NOT OWNING UP TO IT. MY CAR HAS $78K MILES AND ONLY OWNED IT FOR 3.5 YEARS. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME UP TO $8000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE FOR SAFETY REASONS AND MAKE RIGHT TO THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS.

(TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WITH METAL SHAVINGS, ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR: $6,800) MILEAGE 65,297 PURCHASED LESS THAN 4 YEARS AGO VIN: [XXX] MY SON WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING (NO LONGER ACCELERATED) AND HE WAS VERY LUCKILY ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE GALLATIN, TN HONDA, (THOUGH I PURCHASED IT ORIGINALLY IN LOUISVILLE, KY). I HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY 2 SERVICE REPS (AND SPECIFICALLY SERVICE MANAGER, DALE GRATEHOUSE IN LOUISVILLE, KY) THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL (2016 HRV), AND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS TO COME INTO THE SHOP IN THE 60-80,000 MILE RANGE NEEDING THIS EXACT REPAIR. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL REQUIRED AND SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED AT HONDA DEALERSHIPS. I AM A LIFELONG HONDA OWNER. AT THIS POINT, MY MAIN CONCERN IS MAKING SURE THAT ANYONE WHO PURCHASED A 2016 HONDA HRV IS MADE AWARE OF THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT TO PREVENT A HARMFUL OR POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC EVENT. BECAUSE IT IS CLEAR THAT HONDA IS NOT INTERESTED IN THEIR DUTY AND OBLIGATION TO WARN CUSTOMERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRODUCT, I PLAN TO PUT EVERY EFFORT FORTH/DUE DILIGENCE TO MAKE SURE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. IN CONTRAST TO HONDA'S MOST BASIC COURTESY TO ME, HONDA HAS NOW BEEN WARNED THAT THIS WILL OCCUR AGAIN AND THAT SOMEONE WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED AND/OR KILLED. AND NOW, I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO BE FORMALLY NOTIFIED. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *CC *TR

3/6/2020 ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A VERY SUBTLE SOUND UPON ACCELERATION, THE SOUND ONLY OCCURRED WHILE IN MOTION AND APPEARED TO BECOME LESS OBVIOUS AFTER REACHING SPEEDS ABOVE 30 MPH. AFTER ALMOST TWO WEEKS (IN WHICH THE SOUND BECAME MORE OBVIOUS AND INCREASED IN INTENSITY) AND TAKING THE CAR THREE DIFFERENT PLACES INCLUDING THE CLOSEST HONDA DEALERSHIP (NOT WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED DUE TO MOVING), I ULTIMATELY ENDED UP FINDING OUT MY TRANSMISSION IS "DESTROYED" AT UNDER 73,000 MILES. THE ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED RIGHT AWAY AND IMMEDIATELY TAKEN 3/7/2020 TO THE NEAREST REPUTABLE MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO HONDA DUE TO IT BEING A RELATIVELY NEW MODEL, AND THEY HAD NEVER WORKED ON THIS SPECIFIC MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHO I HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH WAS NOT ENTIRELY HELPFUL AND HAD TO CLARIFY DETAILS REGARDING WHAT THE MECHANIC SAID WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR MANY TIMES, AS SHE WAS OFTEN INFLATING THE INFORMATION. THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED HAS BEEN EXHAUSTING AND DUE TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE RECEIVED AT HONDA, THE REPLACEMENT IS BEING COMPLETED BY A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST ELSEWHERE.

ON 2/12/20, WAS ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR JERKED AND STARTED LOSING SPEED. ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON THE DASH. I WAS NOT IN A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER SO I DROVE IT UNTIL I COULD PULL OVER SAFELY. I COULD ONLY GO 40 MPH AND THE CAR WAS JERKING. IT WAS POURING DOWN RAIN WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. ONCE I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. DASH LIGHTS WERE STILL ALL FLASHING. I ENDED UP GETTING BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND DRIVING TO A SHOPPING AREA CLOSE BY. HAD TO HAVE AAA TOW CAR TO MY HOUSE (45 MINUTES) AND THEN THE FOLLOWING MORNING, 11/13, HAVE THE DEALERSHIP TOW FROM MY HOUSE TO THE THEM (ANOTHER 45 MINUTES) . DEALERSHIP TOLD ME MY TRANSMISSION WAS FULL OF METAL SHAVINGS, WHICH WAS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION COMING APART FROM THE INSIDE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN MARCH 2016 AND ONLY HAVE 101K MILES ON IT, IT IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE SERVICE CONTRACT (75K). WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $6,340 TO FIX. CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE (800-999-5901) ON 2/13 AT 3:56 PM TO COMPLAIN AND TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED TO FIX MY TRANSMISSION AS THIS WAS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. HAD THE WORST CUSTOMER PERSON EVER! (MISHA) SHE STATED SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS ASKING HONDA TO DO FOR ME AND THEN IMPLIED IT WAS MY FAULT NOTING SHE "TOOK" INTO CONSIDERATION MAINTENANCE DONE ON CAR, IF TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD BEEN CHANGED, MILEAGE AND NO RECALLS ON THE CAR. ALL OF THIS WAS BASED WITHOUT EVEN CALLING THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP. INFORMED HER I HAD ALL THE MAINTENANCE REQUIRED, INCLUDING 2 TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGES AT HONDA'S RECOMMENDED MILEAGE. AFTER ARGUING WITH HER FOR ALMOST 35 MINUTES I TOLD HER TO GIVE ME A CASE NUMBER. A SUPERVISOR IS "SUPPOSE" TO REACH OUT TO ME WITHIN 24 HOURS. HOPEFULLY HONDA WILL DO THE RIGHT THING. 2016 HRV ON THE THIRD TRANSMISSION - FIRST ONE FAILED IN LATE NOV 2018 AT 108K MILES, SECOND ONE FAILED IN APRIL 2019 AFTER ONLY 11K MILES. BOTH TIMES IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE - VERY DANGEROUS. DETAILS: ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON SUDDENLY AND THE HRV WENT INTO LIMP MODE (WOULDN'T GO ABOVE 35-40MPH) AND FINALLY WENT INTO TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE PHOTOS AND VIDEO OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS FROM THE SECOND FAILURE. THE FIRST TIME, IN NOVEMBER 2018, I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE HRV WAS TRAVELING UP A LARGE HILL AND TRYING TO MAINTAIN A STEADY SPEED. THAT'S WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE ENGINE REVVED REALLY HARD (I ASSUME BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL ON, SO I TAPPED THE BREAK TO RELEASE THE CC) AND THEN IT WOULD BARELY ACCELERATE, SO I PULLED OVER, TURNED ON MY HAZARDS, AND COASTED DOWN THE MOUNTAIN TRYING TO GAIN SPEED BECAUSE I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO 35 MPH. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I GAVE UP REALIZING I COULD NOT DRIVE LIKE THAT AS IT WAS A DANGER TO BOTH MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS. CALLED A TOW TRUCK. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BOTH ONTO AND OFF OF THE TOW TRUCK. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE IT TO MY MECHANIC, THE HRV GOT TO THE STOP SIGN AT THE END OF MY STREET AND WOULD GO NO FURTHER. HAD IT TOWED - AGAIN. THE SECOND FAILURE BEGAN ON THE INTERSTATE AS WELL. THE DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE BEFORE. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO AN ADVANCE AUTO AT A NEARBY EXIT AND THEY PULLED THE CODE - IT WAS FOR THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. IT SEEMED TO BE DRIVING FINE BUT THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE ALL BLINKING, SO I TOOK THE HRV TO MY MECHANIC. THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS A SOLENOID THAT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, BUT HAD NOT "FAILED ENTIRELY", SO THAT IS WHY IT KEPT ON DRIVING. HONDA KNOWS ALL ABOUT MY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THEY HAVE IT DOCUMENTED.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 HONDA HRV AND STARTED TO LOSE POWER. WARNING LIGHTS FOR BRAKE SYSTEM AND ENGINE, ALONG WITH OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF AND TURN CAR ON AND WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD WERE STILL ON, HOWEVER I WAS NOT ABLE TO ENGAGE THE CAR IN EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE POSITION. WHEN TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED, HE WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE CAR TO DRIVE. HONDA DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SPEED SENSOR CAME OUT, BUT IT WAS RULED OUT. ONLY THING WRONG, WAS A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE ON POSITIVE SIDE. CAR IS RUNNING FINE. HOWEVER TWO WEEKS LATER, I AM 150 MILES FROM HOME AND JUST GOT OFF FREEWAY, WHEN MY CAR LOSES ALL POWER. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO PULL OVER AND LUCKILY CAR BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME AND DID NOT REAR END ME. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. I AM ABLE TO TURN CAR OFF AND ON. HOWEVER WILL NOT ENGAGED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE POSITION. I HAD IT TOWED TO HONDA DEALERSHIP (AGAIN). I WAS TOLD TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY OUT AND ITS DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS IN MY TRANSMISSION OIL. I ONLY HAVE 101K MILES IN MY CAR HOWEVER IT IS NOT LONGER COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, SO IT WILL COST ME $6,500 TO REPAIR. IT FIRST STARTED OUT BY WHAT I THOUGHT WAS JUST A ISSUE WITH ME HAVING THREE NEW TIRES BC IT WOULD DRIVE AS IF IT WAS SCRUBBING. ONE DAY I WAS ON MY WAY BACK FROM A HAIR APPOINTMENT AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THE CAR WENT FROM BEING IN DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND FLASHING WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT SO FROM THAT MOMENT ON I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF AND HIT THE ELECTRICAL PARK BRAKE TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE. CRUNK BACK UP AND WAS ON MY WAY. SO TODAY 11/30 WHICH IS A WEEK LATER I WAS AT THE RED LIGHT STOPPED AND ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I RELEASED MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK AND GENTLY PRESSED THE GAS AND THE CAR ACTED AS IF IT DIDN'T WANT TO GO. SO AFTER STILL LIGHTLY HITTING THE GAS PRAYING IT WOULD MOVE ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD FOR ME TO PARK IT IN FRONT OF A STORE; I MADE IT DIRECTLY OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO THE STORE PARKING LOT. ONCE I GOT IT THERE I PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON. I THEN RIED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE. ASSUMING IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT NONE OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DAHS CAME ON. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN OCCURING A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW, THE MONITOR SHUTS OFF AND ON IN THE CAR AND GOES BACK TO THE ORIGINAL HONDA LINK SCREEN EVERY TIME IT RESTARTS.

CAR STOPPED MOVING WHILE ON DRIVE AND WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE SPEED INDICATOR KEPT MOVING FROM 0 TO 120 YET THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT APPEARS TO BE AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKS GOOD YET THE TRANSMISSION IS HAVING ISSUES. THE SEATS AND SEATING POSITION IN THE HR-V ARE VERY DANGEROUS. THE SEAT IS SO UNCOMFORTABLE AND DUE TO THIS, I AM SITTING SO CLOSE TO THE AWKWARDLY PLACED STEERING WHEEL THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WOULD PROBABLY NOT PROTECT ME. THE CVT IN THE HR-V IS SO UNREFINED THAT WHEN I LIFT OFF THE GAS PEDAL A LITTLE, NOT ALL THE WAY, AT SPEEDS UNDER 40MPH, THE CAR ENGINE BRAKES SO SEVERELY THAT I HAVE TO USE MY LEFT FOOT TO PUT ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS IMMEDIATELY. I WAS WARNED BY A FELLOW COMMUTER THAT I'M AT RISK FOR BEING REAR ENDED. I'VE DRIVEN FOR 45+ YEARS AND NEVER HAD A VEHICLE SO BURDENSOME AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. TOTAL LOSS OF MONEY ON MY PART.
