About 10am in Dec 14th, there was something is broken sound after closing my car door, and when I turn around to check what happened, the rear windshield of car is shartted. It's obviously to see the cracks is started from sides. And excluding the man-made and natural possibilities, I think it is the bad quality of rear for vehicle. Before founding this component, my car is normally working on the night of Dec 13th. I only opened “rear” to heat in order to get a better rear view. And then I parked in front of my house. The only one factor I can ensure causing this in my mind is the problems with the quality and with the rear system. Never a car window is easily shattered because of heat rear. Although it’s no hurt happened, the bad quality of rear windshield is probably increase dangerous level if the vehicle is heated rear during a rainy day while driving. Before the rear windshield is shattered, about a week ago, the rear system seems not working to remove mist well. I had reported this situation to insurance and the dealer, but the dealer think it’s caused by natural reason or man-made. And all the repair fee is paid by myself, I don’t think it’s reasonable, and they told me they cannot replace the glass as soon as possible because it’s back-ordered. It makes huge inconvenience to me. (Hope to report this as a record if Honda can realize a “small” but big issue later)

My 2023 Honda hrv was parked. The weather was clear, sunny and around 50 degrees. I entered my vehicle and closed the door. The rear window shattered out of nowhere. The car was not turned on. The automatic start was not used. The car was off and parked. Nothing hit the car. All I did was close the door and it shattered. I had the rear window replaced immediately. There was no warning. No cracks in the window. The car has approximately 11,500 miles on it and is in excellent condition. There was glass everywhere and I was scared to drive the car with my children in the backseat. As I would drive, more glass would break off. Honda was not notified as this happened on a Sunday and I could not wait until they were open on Monday to get it fixed.

We bought a 2023 HRV last year and yesterday out of the blue my back window exploded while it was parked. It’s clearly shattered from the inside out. We took it to our local Honda service center and they are researching the issue. Now I’m without a car while they figure out what they’re going to do. I’m worried if they do replace it, that this can happen again when we’re in the car. We transport our grandkids regularly and and their safety is our top concern.

I was driving on the highway and then I heard a loud boom, and looked in my rearview mirror and my rear window was shattered. I had to pull over and there was no sign of any impact. I was so terrified that I called the police to come out to inspect it and they did not see any sign of impact either. I called Honda, and they advise that my warranty does not cover the glass since the glass does not come from them but a 3rd party. My dealership also did not assist, so I am most likely going to come out of pocket for what seems to be a known issue.

Nov 14, 2023

After leaving work on 11/13/23, I came out to my car which had been parked since 9am and the rear window (back window) was completely shattered. This was the first day since last year that I had turned on my rear defroster on the way to work. There were no other markings, and no object on the ground that could have shattered the window. I called the police, who agreed that It did not look like criminal action had taken place. The security of the school which I work at filed an incident report and are in the process of evaluating cameras. Upon reading online, I became aware that many owners of the 2023 HONDA HRV have had a similar issue regarding the rear window shattering after using the rear defroster.

Nov 13, 2023

The back glass exploded. When I looked online, there are many complaints about this dangerous occurrence. If our grandchildren had been in the back, they might have been killed. Honda surely knows of this problem and needs to take care of it. Our local dealer hadn't heard of it (type in Honda HR-V 2023 back glass explosion), but I don't trust them.

Nov 11, 2023

I used the defroster for 10-15 minutes as I could not see out the back window. I turned it off, parked, and idled while answering email. I heard an explosion. Checked all windows, no gusts of cold air, the cars near me hadn't moved. I got out and looked around at car windows tires, in the dark it looked ok. I thought it was Disneyland and also thought I hope noone got shot. I walked away for 90 minutes for my son's hockey game. As I walked to my car. A car passing me illuminated my shattered windshield.

Nov 11, 2023

I had the heat on in my vehicle and as I was driving I heard a loud popping sound which startled me. Once I pulled over, I realized my rear windshield shattered. Rear window shattered while parked in garage with no impact

Nov 10, 2023

A few minutes after having parked I heard a loud sound. I thought something heavy had fallen on my car. There was nothing inside the car, nothing anywhere near (or even far) that could’ve hit the glass to shatter it. No one nearby.
