2023 HONDA HR-V Visibility/wiper Problems

Drove to work on Friday morning 12/12/25. Parked my car in my work parking lot. At 5pm when I returned to my car, when I entered my car and closed the door, I heard a shattering noise, I looked around and in my rearview mirror I saw a hole right through the middle of my rear window. I exited my car and when I closed the door, the rest of the window finished shattering and fell in. I found out there was a soft recall regarding the rear window and the adhesive used. I went to the Yonkers service center on 50 Yonkers Ave here in Westchester County on Saturday 12/13/25,spoke with a rep who was very courteous, explained the recall I found on-line regarding rear window recall and set up an appointment for that Monday 12/15/25. Dropped off car to service center, received a call the next day from the rep saying they cannot do anything about it because the Technician found nothing wrong. I explained it was a manufacturers defect and it should be covered. Then called the dealer and I explained the situation, called me back and gave me the same explanation. I then reached out to the corporate offices and they said I would have to pay out of pocket. I find this very unacceptable.

The rear window glass suddenly broke with a huge sound. The glass brokes to pieces completely. No warning light was activated. It happened 10 minutes ago. I haven't reported to my insurance or dealer. I used defrost function. Before this accident happened, I smelled a burning flavor a little. Also, the range dropped almost 10 miles over a 2 mile distance. I am not sure if those phenomena relate or not.

The back rearview windshield shattered. I got into my parked car in the morning, turned it on and heard a pop sound. I looked back and saw a hole in the windshield, the glass fell inside the truck in pieces. I looked around to see if something dropped to crack it, but there was nothing. The pieces of the windshield kept falling in the trunk and the hole got bigger as time went on.

The rear windshield exploded while driving. I briefly turned on our defrosters and then the air before that. It is available for inspection upon request. In November 2022, before I even drove off the lot, when I noticed and asked about a rattling noise coming from the passenger-side front window, I was told it was normal because it’s a brand-new car. Within a few hundred miles, I began to experience issues with the car, felt the electrical problems and car felt shaky and unstable. As this continued, I’ve received a reminder from Honda about the three years of service and to schedule an appointment with a certified dealer. And I did, this is also when brought up the fact that I feel and experiences issues with the car, but it remained ignored. Fast-forward to Spring 2023, issues worsen, while driving with a minor in a rear-facing car seat, I heard a loud noise that sounded like gunfire. It took a moment to realize that the rear windshield had suddenly shattered without a warning. This incident caused severe emotional distress, especially given the presence of a minor child in the vehicle. Since May 2023, the certified dealer failed to resolve the ongoing and swishing wind noise coming from the rear. This left us and our child with no safe, no reliable transportation on forward. Then, the vehicle began to turn off its monitors and exhibit more electrical malfunctions, along with engine problems. I continued bringing the vehicle in and its complimentary services and routine maintenance, reporting the problems each time, but nothing was ever resolved. Throughout the years the issues continue to worsen. Most recently, the front windshield cracked spontaneously, and within a few weeks again heard the gunfire, at that time around the sunroof, exploded suddenly and shattered without any external impact or warning. That day I’ve re-routed from and to the local dealer, slowly with the hazard lights as the shattered glass began to spread. Same day the dealer accepted the vehicle, for warranty repairs, service, further complimentary inspection that revealed even more issues. But soon after this dealer refused... [see attached]

Severe windshield cracking (without a clear impact). I have had my windshield replaced 2x and it continues to crack. Glass seems to be thinner and cracks.

I was driving my [XXX] son to daycare and my back window of the hatch shattered. I was completely shocked and had no idea what happened, so I googled to see if there have been issues with my specific car and found the following: "The rear windows of some 2023 Honda HR-Vs are shattering due to a manufacturing defect with the rear defroster. Honda is replacing the windows through a voluntary product update campaign, but has not issued a safety recall. Honda says the problem is due to a manufacturing defect that allows the sealer used to secure the rear glass on some HR-Vs to come in contact with the defroster’s heating elements. Over time, this weakens the glass as the defroster creates a “hot spot.” But the automaker advises owners to continue using the rear defroster as needed." This is a major issue to mine and my sons risk. My son was in his car seat facing the window as it shattered. There was glass everywhere. I called Honda at Honda Costa Mesa in Costa Mesa, CA and they said that my VIN does not have that recall and that I could come in "to receive a quote for the repair" and that it typically takes 2-3 weeks for the window to come in and they will not provide a rental car. They were extremely unhappy and not sympathetic to the situation. I called my insurance (Geico) and filed a claim for Safelite to make the repair. The rear window of my Honda HRV exploded/shattered all on its own into a thousand small pieces of glass while the car was parked outside in cold weather while I was visiting my son.

In the morning of December 31, 2024, I got into my 2023 Honda HRV and as I turned on the ignition, I was shocked by the shattering sound of glass at the rear of the vehicle. To my horror, it was the rear windshield that had shattered to smithereens. I was terribly upset by this incident and while thinking of my next action, I learned through Google that it was due to a manufacturing defect with the 2023 Honda HRV model. Yet, I had not been notified by the Honda of any recall in regard to this defect. I took the car to the nearest Honda dealership where they plastered the rear of my car with a thin plastic and promised to call me as soon as they got the necessary parts. The incident could have caused serious physical and emotional injuries if I had passengers in the rear seats of the car. Even, all alone, I was emotionally traumatized by the incident.

I was driving on the highway and heard a thump at the back of my car. My rear window had spiderwebbed, with no warning and nothing hitting it. I had turned on my rear defrost shortly before that. By the time I got where I was headed, almost my entire price of glass had fallen into ky car, in tiny pieces.

While driving on the highway, the rear windshield shattered with no warning. There was no lights, no sound, no crack, nothing that would indicate a problem. The car has been in use for 2 years with no problems. Once the car had been turned on, the rear defroster was turned on for about 3 minutes. Once the window was clear, it was turned off and about 10 minutes later, it shattered. No injuries but it was startling and could have caused additional accidents on the road, especially a highway that has such high traffic as this one. For once, it's a good thing that traffic was going so slow at 7am so there was more control to stop any potential collisions. It has been taken to the dealership for an inspection and to replace the window. They said that it has happened to several people, they have seen it at least 10 times in our area. I've always looked out for my car and take it to the dealership for oil changes or any recalls in a timely manner and never heard of this beforehand. Thankfully, no one else was in the car with me. But this should be more well known if it's such a common problem.

I bought a 2023 Honda HR-V on Monday, 9/2/2024. and then on Wednesday, 9/4/2024, while driving to work my read windshield shatters out of nowhere. The glass remained in tact while I continued to drive and then completely shatter when I opened my car door. It sounded like an explosion and it startled me. I called the dealer that sold me the car and he proceeded to tell me that this is a known issue specific to 2023 model of HR-V and manufacture error caused when the defroster it causes the glass to shatter. He added the issue can be fixed by simply replacing the window. I did not know this was an issue and it was not disclosed during the car purchase. I am so disappointed in Honda and even more disappointed to learn there is not an active recall to address this issue. Now there is glass all over my trunk space and I having to figure out how to get this fixed with the dealer.

My car was parked in the Garage. I turned it on to leave and out of sudden before even leaving, the read window was shattered into pieces.

I was driving in light rain and had used the rear defroster. As I neared my home I heard a very loud noise that was very startling. Fortunately i was slowing down to make the turn into my cul-de-sac. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw that my rear windshield had shattered. As soon as I closed my car door all of the shattered glass fell into the rear cargo area.

While driving my vehicle going 55mph with the rear defrost on due to rainstorm, I noticed a strange smell like burning plastic but no warning lights were on. A few seconds later there was a very loud sound and I thought something large had smashed through the rear windshield so I ducked. It was terrifying and I almost drove off the road; luckily it didn't cause an accident but it could have. I pulled over and saw that the rear windshield had shattered; it was held mostly in place by the tempered glass but pieces had come off all around the edges and gone inside the vehicle and onto the road. I drove it home fearful of shards of glass falling behind me and endangering other drivers. The next morning I called my dealership who claimed they didn't know of this issue; when I told them my research found that it's been reported by many 2023 Honda HRV owners and that there's a problem with the rear defrost causing this, they were not helpful. I had the windshield replaced by Safelite the next day but am worried about my safety when I need to use the rear defrost again as this issue could happen again if not fixed.

My rear windshield randomly shattered while it was parked in the sun in San Diego. It happened on a military base and nothing was stolen so I’m sure it wasn’t crime related.

My Honda HRV 2023 rear window shattered itself without impact while driving on the highway I-94 on Saturday 6/9/2024 evening with heavy rain. Defroster was used and kids are in the rear seat. The spontaneous shattering was so loud that caused a sudden panic but very luckily with my long years of driving experience, I was able to maintain the control of the vehicle. Kids are shocked and were afraid until we got home. Called the dealership and the service department has no knowledge about the rear window defect cases. Waiting for the manager to call back.

My rear window randomly shattered. Car is on in park, pulled over in a parking lot as it was flooding outside. The rain stopped and then boom, the window shattered completely. Nothing hit the car or the window, nothing fell on the car, and the car wasn’t moving when this happened. I’ve seen other reports of this happening and I’m pretty concerned to drive the car around.

My back glass shattered while driving to work. Nothing struck it, it just exploded and was in a million pieces held together by the tint on the back window or so it seemed. I did call the state highway patrol but they said since it wasn’t an accident they couldn’t do a report. I thought at first it was a gun shot it was so loud when it popped. Called insurance, they referred to Safelite for repair. Upon googling it I saw it was an ongoing issue and thought I should file a report.

While leaving the driveway for work, without any warning the rear windshield shattered. Extremely loud almost like a gunshot. I was driving approximately 10 miles an hour. Upon research by my husband it appears there are several complaints of this happening to this make and model.

My rear windshield suddenly shattered while the car was idling. I this happened because I was using the defrost system, as from my understanding several 2023 HRVs have had their rear windshields shatter from using the defrost system. The windshield "popped" and left a sizeable hole in the corner. As I drove home, the shattered glass fell into my trunk and possibly left pieces of glass on the road. I was worried that my passengers in the rear seats would have glass showered on them. The windshield is available for inspection upon request. I have not yet been able to take it anywhere to be inspected. There were no warnings before the windshield shattered.

While driving my 2023 HRV I had the defroster on as it was raining and hard to see. I had turned it off when pulling up to my house and my back window immediately shattered causing a big boom which I thought was something falling over. Once in the park, I noticed the window falling through into my trunk.

Upon opening the driver's side door and getting into the vehicle I heard glass tinkling and turned around to see where it was coming from. I noticed that the rear hatch glass was shattered. Looking closer it appeared that the glass broke in multiple places as there were two large holes and then it also shattered around the edges of the glass. I called my local Honda dealer as well as Honda Customer Service but they told me there hasn't been a recall for the rear glass and that the vehicle would have to be inspected for it to be covered under the warranty. I ended up just getting it fixed with a local auto glass shop since I needed to be able to drive it ASAP. There were no cracks or chips in the glass beforehand and I had not heard rattling or cracking while driving it the last time. We also couldn't find any rocks or anything in or around the car and there were no signs that it could have been a break in. The car alarm never went off and I never heard or saw anybody on the property. I've heard about a rear defroster issue that causes hot spots and the glass to weaken over time. I'm assuming that since I park in direct sunlight and the weather has been hotter lately the change in temperature throughout the day and the direct sunlight finally caused it to shatter. Thankfully nobody was in the car when the glass shattered and I wasn't driving at the time. Cleaning up the broken shards of glass was not fun, as glass had fallen into the grass around my car and tiny slivers were still in the interior of the vehicle that the shop vacuum couldn't pick up.

Back in mid January, there was a winter storm in our area that hit overnight. Mild snow, but predominantly ice. Heading into work the next morning, I needed to use my defroster (both front and rear) to allow visibility with my windshields. I was able the clear the ice off my window and arrived safely to work. 8 hours later I headed home and again there was still some ice on my rear-windshield which prompted the use of my rear defroster. On my way home (less than 15mins from work) I did not notice any changes in visibility. Once I arrived home, I discovered that my entire rear-windshield was uniformly shattered, still intact, but shattered. Seems as though my window shattered sometime during the work day. The next day I went to my dealership as my car is still under warranty and had only been purchased less than 15 months prior. The service advisor informed me there was nothing they could do for me. Informed them of my research, as I was not the only 2023 Honda HR-V with this issue and stated that this was something that needed to be addressed by them or American Honda. At the start of February I got a response from the service advisor that my case was approved at the district level, but there were no windows available. Unrelated to the window, I was in a separate accident which prompted removal of my broken window to fix the body. The repairs were completed within two weeks and was released with crash-wrap hoping I could immediately transfer it over to Honda, but there still was no window available. I reached out to American Honda hoping for some assistance and still have no results. While i now get weekly updates on status, there is no guarantee of product delivery. It is now end of April, I have been without a window since end of February (broken window since mid-January). While my case is classified as critical, I still have no answers as to when I can/will have a window.

I pulled my car into my driveway on April 22, 2024 and got out of the car to assist my husband with his walker. We heard a big BANG at the back of the car. When we walked behind the car we found that the rear window had completely shattered. It had been raining and we had the reat window defogger running in the car. If this had happened while the car was moving it could have caused an accident with all of the glass falling out onto the road and endangering the cars behind me. I have called Safelite to come to my house to replace the glass as I don't feel safe driving the car like this.

Rear hatch window exploded on Jan 12th, 2024. Honda claims its related to the rear defroster in use or improper installation where the adhesive used comes in contact with the heating elements causing a hot spot in the glass thus exploding. The window was replaced on April 12th, 2024. The issue I have is Honda is NOT guaranteeing the replacement and just stating the warranty of 3 years / 36,000 miles. I waited 3 months for "the fix" and no guarantee? I will discuss further with the dealership.

Was driving at a regular route, about 50mph and was using only front windshield defroster at the time because the weather was cold and the entire rear windshield shattered suddenly and made a whole on the left side I had my toddler in her car seat and thankfully she wasn't injured. My rear window shattered after prolonged use of the rear defroster. It was raining in California very heavily in January 2024. I had been using my rear defroster for a long period of time. On [XXX], I got into my car and as soon as I closed the door the windshield shattered and sprayed glass on the inside of my car and all over my driveway. The rear windshield shattered while driving in I95. The road was smooth and I did not hit a pot hole. It randomly made a loud sound and the rear windshield fell apart while driving. I tried uploading 5 pictures but it keeps saying upload failed.

My rear window exploded while parked on the garage. I had the rear defroster on for only a few minutes. There was a loud bang that startled me and left me in shock unknowing what it could be. There was absolutely no warning of any kind. I took my vehicle into my local dealer where I bought the car. Still awaiting an answer. I saw online this has happened to many people with this same year and make.

Turned on car to warm up and set my windshields to defrost. 15 minutes later when after waiting for car to warm up I turn off the defrosters because I smell something warm/hot. 5 minutes later my rear windshield pops and shatters. All while parked, checked for any sort of debris and none to be found.

The rear window shattered on March 8, 2024. The defroster had been used briefly to clear fog. It was parked and when I returned to the car later, the window was shattered. There was a hole in part of it where it had broken with glass on the inside and some shards on the outside on the ground. It was is also broken around the edges where it would be sealed to the rest of the car. I had to drive home in the rain for approximately 40 minutes with glass continuing to break with any minimal and normal bumps from driving on the road. Had anything happened, like a wreck, while we were driving, this defect likely would have affected our safety in addition to simply having glass falling at random. Because we initially thought the car might have been broken into, the police were called and did inspect it. Nothing was stolen and the hole was not big enough for anyone to get into the vehicle. I found this has been a known issue with the HR-V after having it checked on. When I called the dealership this morning (3/9/2024) they stated they didn’t know anything about this issue and did not have any information on it. They gave me Honda’s customer service number, which I called, but since it’s Saturday, no one was there to answer. There was no warning or any symptoms prior to this happening. It’s like it spontaneously shattered.

Woke up in the morning and discovered that my rear windshield had randomly shattered at some point during the night while it was parked. At first thought it was vandalism, but there was no specific point of impact anywhere on my windshield and it was not indented at all. If I was driving my vehicle when this occurred, it absolutely could've resulted in sudden shock and caused an accident. There was nothing wrong with my windshield in the days leading up to this.

While parked about to drive out to work @ about 18:30, I turned on my car and my rear windshield spontaneously shattered. My wiper is still intact, but my entire windshield has spider web-like cracking all over, leaving a hole on my left side, slightly big. Please see photos attached. (My recalled seatbelts were already serviced by AutoNation Valencia.) The back window blow up

As I see in the news now, my rear window blew out on the expressway on 1/17/2024 on the way to work at 5:30 a.m. With the very cold day below zero it sounded like an explosion and then it crumbled. Luckily I was close to work and my team was able to help me shrink wrap the window to be able to get home. On 1/20/24 I took the car to Safelite for replacement which was done under my insurance. I have no idea this was a problem for my model vehicle.

While driving, I heard a loud pop, and the rear windshield shattered completely. I had the rear defroster on. There was no sign of an object that hit the windshield, it just blew out unexpectedly. I took photos and called the insurance company, but nobody else has inspected the windshield except for me. This posed a safety risk, as I was startled and could not see out the back window. I was not able to pull over due to the lack of a safe area to pull over. There were no warnings of this event, this was the first and only incident. I did some research on this issue, and it appears that I am not the only one who has had the rear windshield shatter in my 2023 Honda HRV, due to a manufacturing defect in the seal around the rear defroster system.

My rear windshield on my brand new car shattered in January 2024. This caused a giant hole to form in the window and almost removed all the glass from it. I took the car into the dealership and the service technicians there determined it was caused by a manufacturing defect when they installed the windshield. They taped some garbage bags to cover it up and said that I would be on a loaner waitlist and have a rush order put on my parts. They also claimed the car is still drivable even though it is winter, and driving without a windshield is torturous, and also the bags could easily fly off and cause an accident to someone behind me. The dealership then came back and said they will not be providing a loaner and will only provide me a rental when the parts come in as they can not justify the expense of giving me a rental/ loaner beforehand. It has been a month and still no parts or other solution has been provided. The dealership and corporate office for the brand is saying that I have to drive around without a rear windshield and bags taped over it or find another solution on my own. This all seems insanely unethical and and a terrible example of customer service. They have not helped me with my safety issue of my rear windshield and are refusing to take on any expense to help me in the slightest, besides the actual repair itself whenever that may occur. It has been over a month since the windshield broke, and the parts keep getting pushed out further.

Rear windshield shattered when wife was driving to work, took to dealer and they have ordered window but it is back ordered for 4 weeks

While my car was sitting in our garage, not driven for two days, our back windshield shattered out of nowhere. We just heard a loud bang and found a hole in the glass and could see it was separating from the sides of the window. We took our vehicle to the dealership and it’s been over a week with no estimated date it will be fixed and still no loaner vehicle has been offered.

I was driving about 35 mph, in morning on 10/3/23. Suddenly the rear windshield shattered accompanied by a very loud noise at the rear or hood of car. At first I thought someone threw a rock, or fired a gun, on my car. Pulled car over to inspect. I was very shaken. The road had a few pine trees adjacent, I thought perhaps a large heavy pine cone could have fallen on the back windshield, but had no evidence of that happening specifically. I have read subsequently about this happening with other 2023 HR-Vs. I don’t know if I turned on the defroster that morning or not. It is possible, because it was a chilly morning. I reported it to my insurance, they covered the entire rear windshield replacement cost.

Was driving off from drive thru window and o hear a loud bang, pop and shatter. I look into rear view mirror to find my rear mirror busted! It was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. I called dealership and they didn’t even want anything to do with me. I got it fixed on my own.

On November 27th at 7:30 am I used the remote start feature on my car for the first time and when I walked out to my car and went to open my door, my entire back windshield exploded. For reference I had not use the rear defroster before so when I used the auto start feature on my car this was the very first time the rear defroster had been used.

While driving to work in the light rain, I heard a loud bang and looked in the rearview mirror to find a softball sized hole in the back glass. Pieces kept falling out until, by the time I got to the dealer, the entire panel was shattered on the floor of the rear cargo area. There was no foreign object in the vehicle.

The rear window of my HRV shattered for no reason in a snow storm. I was unable to get it to my dealer to fix the issue as I am a [XXX] and it was the middle of a snow storm in Utah. I had to get it fixed at the closest glass dealer to my location. The component was reviewed by the glass company as they were fixing it. This is a safety issue is when the glass shattered it rained down in the back seat where I have my nieces and nephews ride. It also put me at risk as it startled me and I was driving in the snow. In doing research, I found that there have been numerous incidents of these windows shattering. I attempted to get a goodwill repair for Honda as it is a "Known" problem, but they refused. Defrosted the rear window, later in the day my rear window shattered randomly. Nothing hit my rear window, it just randomly shattered! I can’t see out of my rear window, This needs to be addressed!

Rear window glass broke out of nothing without any collision or otherwise impact. I parked the car in a covered, safe garage and then the other day the rear window glass was completely shattered and broken.

The back glass shattered for no reason. Was sitting in driveway and had not moved for several days before the glass shattered.

I was preparing to go to work and started the vehicle. It was a cold morning and almost immediately after pressing the start button the back glass exploded into my driveway and into the cargo area of the vehicle.

I used remote start to start my 2023 HR-V SPORT, and walked outside about 5 minutes later to find the rear windshield completely shattered. I thought something may have hit the glass, but I was backed into my driveway close to the garage door, and it was mid-morning so I didn't suspect a break-in attempt, as there was absolutely nothing in the car to steal. After doing some research online, I found all the reports of the Rear Defrost malfunction being reported. I have been setting the A/C to preheat the vehicle in the mornings due to the recent cold snap, so I double checked my settings, and they were indeed set the same, with the Rear Defrost set ON. I called my local Honda Service Dept. today and the person on the phone acted surprised, and claimed to have never heard of this issue. I am still waiting on a call back from the actual Service Department to take the car in. We are currently now without transportation, and no answers from Honda.

Today, 23 Jan 2023, while driving on local Las Vegas freeway the rear window in our 2023 HR-V shattered with an explosive sound with no obvious reason. There was no cargo in the back end of vehicle. At first we thought it had been a gunshot but nothing evident. We were surrounded by traffic in the middle lane of multi-lane freeway when this occurred. Glass pieces fell into the rear interior of vehicle, not able to stop to determine if any fell to the outside rear of vehicle. Weather conditions at the time were light rain/drizzle and we were using the rear window defroster as windows were fogging up. Luckily there was no one in the back seat at the time and no one sustained any injuries. We immediately drove car to the dealer and they informed us they are aware of HR-Vs having this issue. Service Tech helping us said he will be contacting corporate offices first then let us know how they will proceed with repairs. We are not sure yet how long we will be without our vehicle. Damage has not been inspected by anyone other than our local Honda dealer as of this time. There were no warning lights or alarms to indicate a fault with anything. We have not spoken with our insurance yet.

The back windshield completely shattered. No object hit the car. This is not safe for driving. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a service center (Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance, CA). I am taking the vehicle to be inspected by a service center and will get insurance involved if needed. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms prior to the problem.

My rear windshield blew apart out of the blue, with nothing near it or happening. It completely shattered and glass is everywhere.

While our vehicle was parked inside our garage, the rear windshield completely shattered outward, without any impact or object hitting it. The vehicle was parked and off. It was like it exploded. It seems like the glass was manufactured poorly or of an inferior quality than what should be deemed safe for vehicles on the road. It was very scary and unsettling and could have been incredibly dangerous/life threatening if I had been driving with my young child anywhere. The glass would have likely impacted my child or gotten on a car behind me. Incredibly scary!

I used the rear defrost on a cold drive and then put the car in my heated garage. I woke up the next day to the back window having a massive hole in it. We called the Honda dealer and they have another 2023 HRV with the exact exact same problem this morning. We looked online and other people are reporting the exact same issue with this make and model. It was -7° when we were driving the car last night, so if this window had busted while we were driving that would have meant driving at very dangerous temperatures. The police did not inspect the vehicle, nor the insurance company at this point. We have taken photos.

My rear window completely shattered about 10 seconds after using the rear defroster.

On December 11, 2023, my wife and I drove 4 miles to a local restaurant with friends. We used the rear defroster as the outside air temperature was 50 degrees and humid. Upon leaving the restaurant 1.5 hours later, we discovered the whole back window was shattered. We reviewed the restaurant's security camera footage for the complete duration of our meal and it was very clear no one or anything went near the HRV. Honda is refusing to pay for repairs, so we had Safelite fix the back window. As of January 17th, 2024, Honda has not reimbursed us for the defective window even though the vehicle is still under original warranty.

My car was parked in a parking lot this morning and I got into my car, shut my driver door, and my back rear window shattered - now I am stuck replacing this when it was of no fault of my own. I see there have been over 300 complaints about Honda HR-V owners' rear windows shattering. Can something please be done about this, or can this be refunded due to having to pay out of pocket for something that is defective on this make/model of Honda vehicle?

Was driving from one restaurant to another tea shop after dinner around 7:30 PM. After parking in the lot, we heard a minor crack sound but did not thought of something major. However, after getting the tea and trying to place it in the trunk, we realized that there was a hole on the rear windshield, with edges all broken up. Thought of it as an unsuccessful break-in, but there was other cars in the parking lot without this kind of shattering, which doesn’t make sense that it was a intended intrusion. Honda definitely needs to recall this issue and have the rear window replaced!

While at the gym one evening on 1/3, I came back to my car and noticed a shattered rear windshield. Initially my thoughts were 'did my car get broken into?' however, nothing was missing and my gym is located in a fairly safe part of town. Also, this occurred early evening, one of the busiest times at the gym and an unlikely time for a break in. I notified the police, my insurance company, and the gym. The police reviewed footage of the parking lot and didn't see anything that suggested a break it. Shortly thereafter, I became aware of many HRV owners experiencing 'spontaneous' shattering of the rear windshield. The situation was beginning to make more sense. I believe that I am a victim of this defect.

This is a safety issue, I have my 3 year old son at the backseat, and the pieces of shattered glass flew pretty far out, and luckily I wasn't driving fast in the highway. After getting in my car and shortly after turning it on, my rear windshield exploded and caused for pieces of glass to fly everywhere. One piece of glass hit my face but what worries me most is that my dogs are in the back seat when this shattered and they had glass all over them. They are shaking from fear because that sound was very loud and happened out of nowhere. No one hit me and I was not moving the car. After some online research, it looks like this is a common issue in this make/model car.

I was driving down the [XXX] south bound on [XXX]. Around 5:15pm on a rainy and i must have not been going no faster than 60 miles per hour and it was already dark and then all of a sudden you hear an explosion sound noise from the back of the car. I originally thought it was bullet of a sort. I couldn’t believe the window was broken. How, I asked myself did the window have a hole. How did the glass break. How did this happen. I wanted requested footage from CHP to see if something shot at us. But now I see Honda made a default car. So sad because I love Honda and I feel betrayed by them. Remote started car, parked in the garage, in cold weather which enables defrost on front and rear windshields. After only a few minutes I began driving when my rear windshield exploded/shattered out of the blue.

I got into my HRV And closed my driver side door as normal. The back window shattered I was not parked under a tree or anything that could have fallen on the back windshield. I was sitting in the driver seat when it happened. The glass came into the car. I called my dealer, and they said they had not heard of a problem. However, after investigating myself, I found this to be happening to several people owning Honda Anda HRV.

I was sitting in traffic today and suddenly heard an explosion sound and when I looked back my rear windshield was all shattered. It spontaneously shattered out of nowhere with no warnings. I was lucky that I was not moving and in traffic when that happened, because that scared me tremendously and if I was driving I could have crashed or something.

I arrived home and had just turned off my vehicle. I was sitting in the car talking on the phone when I heard a loud noise, like a bomb explosion. When I got out the car to inspect my vehicle and the area around, I saw that my rear windshield had exploded & was shattered. Even the area around the window frame was broken was shattered. My car was in park, there were no objects around or above my car as I was in the parking lot & there were no other cars parked there at the time. I went to the dealership who stated they spoke with Honda and apparently there are other people who have experienced the same thing & that it may be a defroster issue. I was instructed to contact my insurance at this time since no active recalls have been issued. I was able to schedule an appointment for 1/10/24 through my insurance to have it repaired. Before this incident, I have had no issues with my car.

Closed my front passenger side door and the rear hatchback glass completely shattered. Hundreds of pieces of shattered glass were now inside the rear lift gate section of my vehicle. The glass shattered around the edges and in the center. Some remained around the edges but continued to fall out at the slightest movement, such as when I got in the vehicle and closed my door to call the dealership. Contacted my dealership who said there were no recalls on my vehicle and they stated they had not heard of this, though I've seen many similar complaints here. Dealership suggested I place a claim through my insurance company. It hardly seems fair to me that my insurance should foot the bill for an obvious manufacturing defect on Honda's part.

I was on the road for about 5 minutes when there was a load bang I was not sure what happened then a I drove crack crack so I pulled over to look at and saw a big hole in my back window. No body was around when it happened.

Vehicle was parked outside workplace during the work day. Upon returning to the vehicle the rear glass is completely shattered, only being held together by the tint. The vehicle was parked in front of the workplace cameras which prove there was no vandalism or outside cause for the rear glass to shatter.

The rear window spontaneously shattered today. It was a cold morning approximately 35 degrees. Car was auto-started to warm it up. After driving the care for approximately 1/2 mile and while stopped at a stop light, the rear glass spontaneously shattered.

On January 3rd, 2024, while the car was parked in the driveway, the rear windshield spontaneously shattered soon after parking at around 630pm. Upon inspection, there were no signs of any impact from a foreign object. The rear defrost was previously turned on to assist with visibility while driving in cold weather conditions. If this had occurred while driving, the sound of the glass itself spontaneously shattering would have completely distracted me and would cause an accident.

While driving home from my doctors appointment today my back window just popped. No one was behind me or in front of me. While diving I hear a pop and looked through my rear view mirror and the whole glass was shattered!

The vehicle was parked in my carport, and when I opened the door to get inside, the rear window (rear windshield) shattered. There was no foreign object, it wasn't hit by anything, it just shattered.

On 12/21/23, I went out to my secure garage to my 2023 Honda HRV and found that the back window had completely shattered. After further investigation, I did not find any obvious external reason for this incident. I had driven the car on 12/20/23, which was a rainy day and may have activated the rear wiper and/or rear defogger. But to my knowledge, there was no impact of any kind to the window. The component that failed was the rear window. No one was hurt; however, this could've been a safety issue if it happened on the road. There was no warning prior to the incident. The vehicle was purchased on 11/26/22 and was last serviced on 10/30/23, where no problems were noted. I called Honda, thinking this may be a product defect. Rear windshield spontaneously burst, creating a hole on the driver’s side area followed by complete splintering and combustion. Had anyone been in the backseat, they could have been injured by glass. Also, it burst while we were driving, startling us and causing panic will in motion. There was no indication of impending destruction. Police were contacted as we tried to determine the cause. There was no external reason (rock, crash, etc.) that caused the damage.

I had gently shut my car door and the back windshield exploded. Glass went everywhere, and if someone was in my back seat or standing behind my car, they would’ve been cut. My car was not even on. Very very disappointing on Hondas part as I know 2 other people who have the same car and have had the same problem happen.

REAR WINDOW - while driving down the highway the rear window just made a loud POP when I looked my rear view mirror the whole window had shattered .... immediately pulled off the highway .

My rear window completed shattered without any impact, I contacted the dealership & they stated that glass isn’t covered. This is very disappointing because Honda isn’t fixing the issue.

On September 22,2023 I was entering my vehicle on the drivers side, I got in the seat and shut the door and my rear view window immediately shattered.

I was driving at 30mph and my rear windshield shattered after having the defroster on. I had a passenger in the back seat when this happened and not only did it hurt his ears because how loud the pop noise was; he could have been seriously injured by any glass debris that could of scattered around.

The back rear windshield glass exploded and shattered into small pieces. Remote started the car before making my way to drive it. As I started to drive, in few minutes I heard a pop sound and when checked rear view mirror; the rear windshield was shattered into pieces. There was no impact, no object hitting. Rear window on truck door exploded and shattered in 50 degree weather while parked. There was no collision or impact to the window. There is a softball sized hole and the entire window shattered in driveway. The Car is a year old.

Rear window failed/shattered when the driver side door was closed. Sounded like a loud bang, glass fell into rear hatch area and there was a hole in the window. Looking at the window it appears that the plastic seal around the window failed. If this happens at speed the result could be catastrophic. I’ve contacted Honda and am waiting to hear from the dealership.

The first of October 2023, I was sitting in my car in a parking lot. I started my engine and I heard a loud boom, I looked up and around my car when I noticed the large hole in my rear window. I did not turn on my rear defroster. I went home and called my insurance company. The next day I went to the dealership where I purchased my HR-V. the service technician said "oh no not another one. I asked her what did she mean by that remark. She said that this particular model 2023 HR-V, their dealership has had a lot of customers come in for the same problem. My dealership scheduled for me to get the rear shatterered window replacement. I immediately called my insurance company to cancel the appointment. Why should I file a claim on my insurance when this incident wasn't my fault. The Honda Motor Corporation need to acknowledge that the rear window is faulty and a danger to all its customers.

I own a HRV Sport 2023 and Friday December 1, 2023 I found my rear windshield shattered all of the sudden. I know by reading online that is a defect from manufacturing. The dealer where I bought my car does not want any responsability and they told me I have to pay it. This is a manufacturing defect. Is not fair I'm still paying for this car and have to be liable for something the manufacturing has done wrong.

The rear windshield of the vehicle spontaneously exploded outward while sitting parked in driveway of home around 10am on 12/1/23. Vehicle had not been driven that day, temp was about 55 and sunny. Glass was spread out on driveway as well as in truck of vehicle as part of windshield had collapsed.

WHILE I was driving the rear window just made a noise and the I heard shattering glasses. When I look thru the rear mirror I saw that the glass was all shatter. I stop when I park I look for any holes that indicate that someone throw something but there was no sign of it. I moved to a safe place and the windshield started to fall.

My back windshield completely shattered while I was coming up to a stop sign. Nothing hit my car, I didn’t hit anything. All of a sudden I just heard it explode.

The rear glass randomly shattered at a stop sign. Nice sunny day in SoCal 75° and clear. Our safety was not immediately in danger but we couldn’t drive the vehicle. Honda roadside came and towed it to a dealership close to our house. It was approved by the “claim adjuster” and repaired about 3 business days later. Very scary.

While I was driving the rear window suddenly shattered creating a loud thud. Chunks of shattering glass fell into the back section of the car. No foreign object hit the car. This was just a spontaneous event. We often transport our grand children and it is possible that they could have been seriously injured if they would have been in the car at the time. The car is unsafe to drive at this time due to shards of glass still loose. I plan to contact the local Honda dealership and will request a representative to come inspect the damage. Our HRV is still under warranty.

On Sunday, November 19, after using the rear defroster for the first time, the rear window completely shattered. The rear defroster was not on at the time of shattering but had just been switched off. The rar window completely shattered from edge-to-edge.

My 2023 Honda HRV rear windshield exploded unexpectedly without a cause. I warmed up the car on a 40 degree morning before driving and less than a mile down the road, the rear window exploded in a wide open area while driving 25 mph. THANKFULY MY KIDS WERE NOT IN THE BACK SEAT!

Problem with low-beam headlights. When I'm driving, oncoming cars flash their high beams because they think I'm going with high beams. When something like this happens, and I'm blinded, I can't see well for some time. This endangers my life as well as that of other drivers. Honda says everything is OK with my car

While I was driving and while using the rear window defroster the rear window suddenly shattered. The shatter made a whole on the middle/upper left side (facing forward). This needs to be recalled as it is a hazard while driving and there shouldn’t be rear windows easily shattering by using the defroster once. This was my first time using the defroster since I just bought the car.

The rear glass exploded out of nowhere while my partner and I were in the vehicle. This was very scary and life threatening. I went to two dealerships and they told me to file a claim with the insurance company because there is nothing that Honda can do since they do not cover glass and they did not conduct any inspection. It may however have something to do with the defrost system. My vehicle is available for inspection as of right now. I have a glass replacement scheduled for which I have to pay out of pocket.

The vehicle was parked with engine off and was being filled with gasoline at a gas station. When the back hatch was opened to remove a bag (covered in broken glass) most of the remaining windscreen fell in to the back of the vehicle when the hatch was shut. The vehicle was not involved in an accident/collision and was not hit by any object. The rear window heater had been turned on in the previous minutes. Honda do not have a recall for this issue but they have issued a dealer communication and are investigating the general issue. This does seem to be a common issue according to Honda forums.

Rear window has now shattered spontaneously TWICE in less than 1 month after the first repair. Once on 10/27/23 while driving on the interstate at 70 mph, clear road conditions, clear sky, 65 degrees outside and then on 11/17/23 while sitting in our driveway - raining this day and temperature 43 degrees. Both incidents are pictured below.

On 11/12/2023 my wife was driving the 2023 Honda HR-V from the grocery store approx. at 9:30 AM in the morning On the way home she turned on the rear defroster and the back window completely cracked and shattered. If occupants were in the back of car they could have gotten glass on them. My wife also couldn't see out the rear window while driving. My wife called the police and told them. she thought maybe someone tried to break into the car. The police looked at camera footage at the grocery store at found no one near the car. I'm trying to go through my insurance to replace the windshield.There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Rear windshield shattered on its own while driving. No other cars around and no projectiles found in the vehicle. Glass is shattered with large hole (baseball size) in top left, similar photos seen online of other HRVs with similar windshield damage. Hole continues to enlarge while driving home, now half of the back windshield collapsed into the vehicle. Honda dealership was called today in PHX, AZ on 11/8/23 at which time their service department states they have no knowledge of this occurring - yet dozens of complaints here on NTSB report the same.

On my way to work this morning, I heard a loud shattering sound and when I looked back, my back windshield was cracked everywhere. There wasn’t anything thrown at my vehicle from any direction. I pulled over shortly after and saw the bottom and sides of the windshield was chipping away and the glass was falling down, along with the seal through the outside of my car. On the inside, the glass was still cracking and slowly falling out. There was no warning or any indication that this would happen.

Driving at 65mph when rear glass explodes spontaneously. No projectile cause as there was no hole in the glass. Impossible to see out of the glass after it shattered. Glass starts to fall into the trunk, putting back passenger and 2 month old baby at risk of glass shrapnel. There was no warning that this would occur. Taken to dealership and technician stated that they have seen this a lot with Honda/Acura rear glass and sunroofs, but that Honda has denied every claim to fix or recall the defective glass.

I was driving on a highway with the rear defroster on and heard a loud "pop" sound. I pulled over on the shoulder and noticed the rear windshield was completely shattered in the middle. Glass was everywhere. I called my local Honda dealership and they told me that it is not covered by the warrantee and that I should take it to a local glass repair shop or to safelite. There was no warning.

Wife was driving to work this morning when the back windshield suddenly shattered. No impact from road debris was involved nor was any warning issued by the vehicle.

The back windshield exploded with no warning while I was driving to work on a rainy, 60 degree morning. No other vehicles were close by and no items hit the windshield. Glass flew everywhere including the cargo area and back seat. Luckily there were no passengers or cargo in either of those areas. There were no prior issues with this car. The issue was initially reported to our insurance but upon finding out about this issue, we reported it to the dealer from whom it was purchased. The dealer inspected the vehicle and authorized the repair based on "good will". Later on, the service rep did confirm that Honda was aware of the problem and that for legal reasons they could not comment. They are replacing the defective rear windshield with the same part number, which I assume will lead to the same issue occurring down the road. We plan on trading in the vehicle once it is repaired and returned to us.

While driving my car this morning, I turned on the rear windshield defroster and the rear windshield glass shattered. I stoped the car to check if something felt in the rear windshield but there was nothing. Only glass everywhere.

I was traveling roughly 20 mph on a smooth road with no traffic just after 7:00AM . The temperature was in the 30’s (F) and it had snowed so I had the rear defrost setting on. The rear windshield spontaneously shattered, I was not underneath any trees and I did not locate any foreign objects in the trunk or near the rear of the vehicle. Luckily no one was in the back seat or they may have been showered with glass fragments. There was also no traffic on the street or I could have been involved in an accident from the stimulus.

After turning on my defroster, my hatch window spontaneously popped and shattered. No marks of anything hitting my window.

The back (rear) window spontaneously shattered without cause. The vehicle was not in motion at the time of the incident, and nothing stuck the window. The safety of the occupants was put at risk from the pieces of glass which fell throughout the inside of the vehicle. Additionally, if the vehicle was in motion, when this occurred the loud noise of the window breaking may have caused the driver to become distracted and cause an accident. The car is available for inspection, but is scheduled for repair in the next day or two. An insurance claim was filed, but no representative is coming to inspect. There was no notice or warning prior to the window failing.

Rear windshield bursted while I was leaving my house. I was going like 5 mph.

I was driving to work this morning and was almost there when I heard a loud noise/smash. I look in my rearview mirror and see the entire rear windshield to be shattered. It shattered on its own, nothing was pelted at my vehicle (I checked the trunk of the car to be sure) and no rear defroster was on when this happened. This is crazy that a recall hasn’t been issued as of yet for this issue since it looks like so many people are having this happen to them. It is not safe and also isn’t something we should be worrying about when having a brand new vehicle.

On Sunday it was a rainy day and the rear window defroster was on, parked in the garage and closed the door. This morning temp outside went to 32f. I went out to get in the vehicle around 10:15am and found window shattered.

While driving home, I was using my front and rear defroster due to inability to see. Once I was parked at home, I turned off defrosters and then turned off my car. I heard a boom come from the back of my car. I went to inspect and the entire back glass was shattered with a small hole in the glass. There was no collision, nothing thrown at my car, no vandalism. No warnings on my dash prior to use. Thankfully I was safe in my front seat away from the incident and parked in a safe place.

While parked and unoccupied, the rear windscreen unexpectedly exploded. This incident was not caused by any external force or impact, and it occurred without any warning signs or previous issues with the vehicle. I had been out earlier that morning - light rain with back defogger engaged.

I was stopped at the stoplight and my rear windshield spontaneously shattered. I heard a pop, similar to a balloon sound, and the rear window had been completely shattered all the way through.

The car was parked in the driveway with the rear defroster on. The rear window shattered. There were no prior impacts or collisions, and the ambient temperature was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite the dealer having a previous case of this happening, they are unwilling to cover it via warranty. Honda's support was also unwilling to cover the incident under warranty.

Rear windshield shatters. No collision, nothing hit car, no theft, no vandalism. Driving 40 mph in Blizzard conditions. All Wheel Drive, rear defroster on, rear wiper on. 2023 HR-V Sport. The first time operating both rear wiper and rear defroster synchronously. A sudden unexpected pop & entire rear windshield shatters. Rear wiper then began pushing glass into rear hatch area. Turned off wiper, continued driving. As this issue has been reported numerous times in the new generation 2023 Honda HR-V's, I was not shocked. Just A bit startled. My conclusion is use of inferior glass or rear wiper hole causing an issue or rear defroster exceeding parameters. Shattered rear windshield is being reported by many owners of the new generation 2023 Honda HR-V. In looking at rear the shattered windshield, most astonished how very thin the glass is, as compared to most auto glass. An attempt at weight reduction? Honda of America needs to address this asap, it is unsafe! I was not injured, just startled by the sudden unexpected loud pop & shattered glass then falling into hatch area. Hole for rear wiper located through bottom center of rear glass. Rear defroster temp parameters to high for thin glass? Possible combination of all three. Again, 1st time rear wiper & defroster used synchronously. Blizzard conditions at time of rear windshield failure.

Incident date: 10/25/2023 Car: 2023 Honda HRV •Failure: rear window / tailgate window Made appointment for 10/27/2023 at dealership for them to check and replace •risk was limited because we had installed UV protection by sunstoppers, and that did not allow the glass pieces to fall in. The only real risk experienced was limited visibility because the glass shattered which made it less safe to drive. Some glass pieces did end up falling off when the shattering happened which I assume would have been a risk to other drivers if there had been traffic around us. • Incidents like ours have been reported and Honda has issued a letter to dealerships to collect evidence and parts for research. Because we found the incident strange we researched and found this on NHTSA’s website; we brought it up with the dealership and they stated they were unaware and their system showed nothing about it. We called the Honda TIS number they have on the letter to see if they were interested in the parts they mention and they too seemed unaware and simply suggested we tow our vehicle to the nearest dealership to follow up. • We have reported the incident to a Honda dealership and to Honda TIS. We have an appointment for 10-27-2023 for them to check and give us follow up steps. • there were no warning signs or prior symptoms. We were surprised by the incident and took us a second to even realize what had happened because of how sudden it was. It sounded like an explosion.

I parked my car in my drive way, closed the door and went inside. When I came back outside about 3 hours later, I came outside and my windshield was completely shattered. Nothing hit it or was bumped into it.

Rear windshield shattered shortly after parking car in apartment complex lot. I had just exited the vehicle when I heard a loud smashing sound. Nothing had any impact with the windshield. I was running the rear defrosting previously while driving on the freeway about 10 mins prior to parking.

Outside temperature in the 70s had recently just rained and rear window was foggy. I turned on the rear defogger after about two minutes or so started smelling something burning thought it was car exhaust. I parked the car and the rear window shattered.There was a hole the size of a baseball, and when I went out to look, everything fell into the trunk area, Honda claims this is not a warranty issue and it’s not covered

Similar to many people with their submissions, my rear windshield exploded this morning. It was about 60 degrees Fahrenheit and I turned on the defroster. After turning it off, I drove out of my neighborhood at 25 mph and then went up to 35 mph when I suddenly heard an explosion. Thankfully, there’s a gas station I could pull over to to assess the damage because I thought it might’ve been a blown out tire. When I did look in my rear view mirror, the glass was completely shattered from the inside. The pieces started falling off into my trunk. From what it seems like the consensus is possibly due to the defroster. However, I wasn’t aware this was a problem that’s been going on. It’s not like I could’ve predicted that the glass would shatter. Luckily no one was sitting in the back of my car.

I was sitting in my car after just driving from a destination. I had used the rear defroster previously to the back windshield exploded. I had just turned the car on was about to put it in drive when I hard a loud pop then the spidering sound of glass. After that the glass proceeded to start falling into the back hatch. There was nothing around me I was in a parking lot at 6:45ish am. I looked for an object in and around my car there was nothing. I discovered burn marks on the glass. I searched for a recall for this issue but there is not one. After research I am not the only one with this problem. If I was driving when this happen or someone was in the back seat someone could have been seriously hurt. I visited the local Honda dealership to see what they could do.They told me they couldn’t help me because there is not a recall for this issue and that I couldn’t prove it was the rear defroster was the problem.

Rear windshield exploded randomly while driving. Nothing hit the windshield, no sign of impact, completely shattered. The noise it made was loud and distracted me while driving while also impaired part of my vision which is necessary for safety driving. It's an inconvenience where I have no responsibility in the cause and has now affected my commute to work, I will have to wait until a shop is able to fix this and can't drive anywhere since it's illegal to not have a windshield in CA.

Back windshield shattered after using defrost. Sounded like a gunshot and it shattered into a thousand pieces.

The back window in my HRV popped and shattered on September 14, 2023. I was driving down the highway when it happened. It took until October 13, 2023 to get it replaced. I drove home from work and parked my car. October 14, 2023, I went out to my car and it had popped and shattered. It started in the same spot each time. The dealer is telling me there’s nothing they can do about it. Which leaves me without a car to drive. The first time this happened, I knew nothing about the windows in the HRV’s shattering, so I had it fixed through my insurance company.

I was pulling into my parking spot after a 25 minutes long drive with the back windshield defroster on due to fogging. The back windshield popped and then completely shattered. The pop was startling and the shattering completely prevents the driver from seeing out of the back window l. There are several reports of the problem occurring to other drivers online. The car will be inspected by the dealer soon.

I drove the vehicle in the rain with the front and rear wipers on and the rear defrost on. After pulling into a parking space and turning off the car, I unloaded items from the car and closed all of the doors. Upon returning to the parking lot, others in the lot informed me that there had been a cracking sound and glass in the upper left-hand corner of the rear windshield had fallen into the trunk. They confirmed that there had not been an impact which caused the crack and there was nothing in the trunk to suggest an impact. While attempting to cover the rear windshield in the rain, more of the glass fell into the trunk. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for evaluation. Had this occurred while the vehicle was operating, it could have posed a safety risk for individuals in the back seat and a distraction risk for the driver.

I was parked in a parking lot when the rear windshield exploded and the glass would fall apart with a single touch. There was no crash and no other damage, just the rear windshield cracking.

As I googled the situation, it seems as if this has been an ongoing problem with Honda and some of the Acura models.

Within 10 minutes of turning on the rear defroster, the rear window shattered. Glass fell into the car, but no object was found inside the car. It was about 60F outside, and the sun had set ~5 hours prior. This specific vehicle has not been inspected for this issue prior to the incident, and the dealership was unable/unwilling to look at the rear defroster without first replacing the rear window. We still have the rear window, which could be made available upon request.

I used the rear window defroster this morning and when I arrived at work I smelled what seemed to be burning rubber but thought it was from the road. When in park my rear window shattered. Started in a spot in the upper driver side part of the window.

While driving to work this morning I heard a LOUD POP and continued cracking. I looked up and seen that my back window was shattered. It was 39 degrees this morning and I did have the defroster on. Took my car to local dealership and was not offered a loaner.

I was just driving down the road at approx 45mph when the rear window suddenly shattered with very loud BANG. Pieces of glass inside and out. Nothing hit the window, it just shattered.

I was driving within the speed limit on a street and noticed lack of visibility in my rear window so I turned on the defroster. Within a matter of minutes I heard a loud shatter sound and looked back and saw my rear window shattered. I thought someone threw something at it at first, but after pulling over to the side I noticed the rear window just randomly shattered. At first it was a big hole, and then the rear window just kept falling down by fragments. I have turned on that rear defroster many times and nothing like this ever happened. There were no cracks in the rear window either because I inspect the car every time before I get into it. The window fragments were scattered over my trunk and it looked as it the window popped off my car, signaling a defect. The vehicle is available for inspection. My family member was in the back seat and I instantly was terrified they were injured by the glass. This random shattering of the window is seen by many people with the 2023 Honda HR-V, not just me. The vehicle should be inspected by the dealership, but they are claiming it might have been a rock that cracked it, which I do not believe as I am very careful when I drive and inspect the car. No warning signs were present when this happened, so it was very frightening for all of us in the car when our rear window randomly shattered with a loud noise.

My 2023 Honda HRV rear winshield imploded all by itself. I reached out immediately to my Honda dealership and they said there is no recall and they have not heard of any issue from other owners. There was nothing they could do for me. I filed a police report and took a lot of pictures. Please advise.

Gar parked in garage and rear windshield shattered randomly without any kind of impact to the vehicle. Windshield started cracking around the edges and then progressed more inwards towards the middle. Huge safety issue as someone could have potentially been sitting in the rear seats when this occurred and could have gotten severely injured. I do not see any open recalls about this issue on Honda’s website, but it seems like this issue is happening to other individuals too.

Car was parked. Upon arrival back to the car, I noticed the back windshield had shattered into a spiderweb. Car has never been in an accident and back windshield is all stock. No modifications to the car have been made.

Back windshield shattered out of nowhere. I have not even had this car for a year. I called police and have a report that there was NO impact, no crack or rock. It exploded on its own. MY ONE YEAR OLD WAS IN HIS CARSEAT FACING THE WINDOW. I am paranoid and scared of going into a car. He won’t sit in his car seat. There was NO warning and Honda has my car for a month and NOTHING has been done. I am a single mother with NO car. They won’t give me a loaner. They are doing an investigation without answers or helping me.

I drove my vehicle last night and had no issue. When I came down this afternoon my window was completely shattered but intact. The edging was falling to pieces but the tint film seemingly kept the glads together even though it wad webbed with cracks. There was NO sign of any impact, no hole, no chip, no nothing. Just a randomly cracked back windshield. I reverse park my vehicle and it would have been hard for anyone to access since it’s parked close to my garage door.

The rear windshield shattered and broke. I was at a complete stop in a line when I heard a loud pop and saw the rear windshield had broken. I pulled into a parking space to inspect what had happened. There was a large hole on the left side of the rear windshield, the rest of the windshield was shattered and the side and bottom edges looked blown out. Thankfully my children were not in the back seat at the time of incident. Immediately drove home, where more of the windshield fell in, and called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle 10 months ago and explained what had happened. The lady I spoke with told me it was not an uncommon problem. She put me on hold and then told me I would need to file with my insurance company or bring it in and they could quote me a price to replace it. I explained it was a brand new car and I purchased the 8 year warranty and she stated they would not cover it. I requested to speak to the service manager but I was told he was in a meeting and would call me back. I have not heard back from the service manager at this point. We did file a claim with our insurance since it needs to be repaired. The soonest they can come out is next week. This occurred roughly at 7:50 am, it was 76 degrees outside, partially cloudy, and I had used the rear defrost earlier to see out my back windshield. There was no warnings of any kind of impending failure, it was a sudden malfunction.

On 10/03/2023, I was in stop-and-go traffic on the highway when I heard a loud pop towards the rear of my vehicle. When I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw that my rear windshield was completely shattered. There was a hole on the driver's side that gradually grew bigger as I drove off the highway. When I pulled over to assess the damage, it looked like the glass was protruding outwards. I did not find any objects inside my car that would suggest something was thrown at my car. The rear of my vehicle was untouched, so no signs of collision. My rear windshield just shattered without an identifiable cause.

Rear window shattered randomly on a cool day with the rear defrost on. I was parked and bearded a boom and looked back and my rear window was shattered. No damage to the vehicle, no accident with vehicle, and object thrown at window. The window just shattered randomly. I’ve read this is a common issue with this year and model, I’ve heard the rear defrost overheats and shatters the glass.

I got in my car turned on my rear defroster and I heard a popping sound as if someone had thrown something at my car. I looked up and saw that my rear window was shattered.

My car had been parked, and when I shut one of the passenger doors, the back window shattered. My car is only about a year old and has never had any previous issues. Today is October 1, 2023 I was driving home from church going about 35mph and we heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit the car, but they didn’t. I looked in the rear view mirror and the windshield shattered. My [XXX] mother and [XXX] Aunt (sitting in the back) were terrified and shocked. I was scared and shocked too. When I puked the car over to see what happened there was a hold on the glass and the entire windshield shattered. This is insane and extremely dangerous for anyone to experience. On 09/29/2023 evening at Trenton NJ it was drizzling. I see water droplets on side mirrors and back glass, so turned on rear defogger and drove just 2 minutes, with no reason by back glass shattered with blow sound. I immediately stopped car and saw glass particals fallen inside and few on road. Luckily no one injured. We are traveling with infant and elders. Honda is responsible for this cheap quality glass . Please help us to cover the cost and recall this defect in the car for future people safety

My rear window shattered on September 29th, 2023 on my 2023 Honda HRV Sport. My car had some frost on the windows early that morning, so I used the remote start to start my vehicle and let it run for about 5 minutes before leaving for work. I left the defrost on during my short 10 minute drive to work. When I came out to my car at lunch, the entire back window was completely shattered and had a large hole approximately 3 inches in diameter on the left side. The glass completely fell into my car once the driver door was shut gently. The company ran back the cameras to see if there was an incident that caused my rear window to shatter. The camera footage catches the rear window shattering about 4 minutes after I turned the car off. Nobody was near the car when it happened and it appeared that the window just shattered on its own.

I was driving down road and back windshield shattered with no impact.

A few days ago I was driving to when my rear windshield suddenly blew up and shattered after using my defroster. If my dog was in the back he would have been injured by the glass. I am still waiting to hear back from Honda and the dealership.

At 4:30 pm on 9/25/2023, I was driving my car on a paved road leading out of Jacksonville,Or. to a nearby town. The weather was mild, no wind and slight mist. I was not using the wipers. Without any warning, the rear window exploded, shattering all of the window and leaving a very small open rectangle on the bottom of the window. There was no sign of a projectile either in the car or in the shards of glass.Had a passenger or my dogs been in the back seat, they would have been subject to flying glass particles. I was shocked and thought someone had fired gun at my car. I was able to do a u- turn and return home where I called my insurance. They immediately called Safelite and made an appointment for window replacement. The job was done 9/28/2023.

I'm one of the many individuals who experienced the rear windshield imploding or shattering. Its been a few days, so far Honda and Los Angeles(downtown) Honda have not been helpful.

Rear windshield shattered without impact from rock or other foreign object. Car was parked in a lot for 1 hour in the shade after driving for 20 minutes. Rear defroster was used 3.5 hours before incident for approximately 10 minutes. Glass shattered inside trunk and onto pavement of parking lot, which is used by a daycare [XXXXXXXXXX]; daycare providers were extremely concerned for children's safety following incident. No warning messages or symptoms were seen prior to incident. Vehicle to be brought to dealer for inspection; initial call to dealer was unsuccessful in acquiring answers regarding the problem. I came back to my car from class and my entire back windshield was shattered. There were cameras and nothing made impact with my car, it just happened by itself.

I had the rear window windshield or glass (at the trunk or above the license plate) of my 2023 Honda HRV SPORT shattering and exploding today while I stopped at a stop sign. There was no impact or an object hitting it. It just exploded. I strongly believe it’s a manufacturing defect which needs a recall or warranty coverage. I believe an inferior glass was used. I had this car for a few months and less than a year. I had a newborn in the back seat in her car seat as soon as this happened. Doesn't make me feel safe.

I was driving down the highway on 9/21/23. I had my rear defrost on and it was about 50 degrees outside. My back windshield had no cracks in it. Nothing hit the back windshield. I suddenly heard a loud popping noise and my entire back windshield shattered. There was glass falling into my trunk. Luckily my infant daughter was not in the car in her rear facing carseat. Honda would not replace the rear windshield under the manufacturers warranty. My insurance covered the replacement of the windshield.

My wife parked at a local restaurant this morning, and prior to entering the lot, she reported no issues. My wife advised that upon exiting the vehicle, her back window began shattering from the bottom left corner which continued upwards toward the roof of the car. Nobody was around to strike it, nor has the vehicle been involved in any accidents to cause an integrity failure.

While driving to school, sitting in traffic, I head a loud noise, looked in my rear view mirror and saw my entire rear window was shattered. Nothing was thrown through the window, there was no collision. The vehicle was taken to a local Honda dealership for a full diagnosis of the problem. Because the glass is tempered, and no one was in the back seat - there wasn’t an immediate safety issue to persons within the car. However, it isn’t safe to drive the vehicle with no rear window. I filed a claim with Honda America as I’ve read on a forum others have experienced the same issue. The window is on back order through Honda and not covered under warranty. We’ve owned the vehicle for approximately 1 year and it has 6200 miles.

The back window blew out. I had the rear defrost on while I was driving home. When I got home, I backed into the driveway up to the garage. I went in to change, and we left a few minutes later. When we got into the car and closed the doors, we heard a loud sound from the back. We looked back and the window was shattered. There was nothing around that could have hit the window. No sign of anything that could have flown into the window, especially since it was backed up to the closed garage door. It seems to be some sort of factory defect in the window itself. I'm grateful we were parked and not driving down the road when it happened.

While car was parked unattended, rear hatch window shattered. Just parked car after using rear defroster, came out an hour later and it was all splintered. It appeared the glass was bubbled out from the inside on the drivers side middle but yet still intact. Nothing in the trunk, checked all the cameras and nobody was near it. I cleaned up the mess before driving it to the dealer and the dealership intake guy said "I've seen this before". It is now at the dealer waiting to hear what is going to be done.

While driving on a highway, the back windshield spontaneously combusted. It was extremely loud and startling and nearly caused an accident.

I had my car parked at my place of work and the rear windsheld exploded and shattered by itself. The car was not vandalized, touched by an object/being, or had an attempt break in. This all happened after use of the rear windshield defrost component. Luckily I was not driving or in the car when this happened. I brought the car to my nearest dealership and informed them on what happened. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership and also, the police. All confirmed that it was not done by an object/being. There were no warnings or messages that were brought to my attention about this happening or could happen. Now it has to get replaced!

On September 6, 2023, the back windshield of my 2023 Honda HRV shattered while I was driving putting my safety at risk for the loud sound of the glass while concentrating on the road. Called the Honda dealership and explained the incident. The service manager was familiar with this happening on other vehicles and confirmed it would be covered by Honda to replace and correct without any cost to me. I dropped the vehicle off that day and they emailed the Honda warranty group by email and got it approved. The service rep took photos of the back windshield and all the shattered glass to submit. The rep stated that the seals around the back windshield is defective and needs to be ordered and replaced. The seal is on back order with an estimated arrival date of September 23, 2023 to the dealership. Once parts are in, then the dealership will have to arrange an appointment with Safelight to install the new windshield.

I was driving and I heard a large noise and saw that my rear glass shattered/broke unexpectedly. Did not hit anything, just broke on its own. Now have a large hole in the glass.

On September 11th I was driving from my home to work. I heard a popping sound and when I look through the rear mirror I saw a hole in my rear windshield. For no reason the rear windshield shattered and broken completely while i was driving. I always take local route to avoid highway block. Went to two dealership they told company has no warranty on rear windshield repair.

I parked my car around 1pm at work as I do every day. Large busy parking lot in a Publix shopping plaza, very safe, lots of people coming and going from retail shops, restaurants, etc. Approx 4pm realized I left one of my office keys in my console. Opened driver door and leaned in to grab key, out of the corner of my eye I saw the back windshield & thought it looked dirty & weird. Did a double take & it looked like ice when it breaks & starts to melt. I walked around to the back and saw a hole in my back windshield & the entire thing was shattered in little pieces. I thought someone punched a hole in it. Then I walked back around to shut my driver door and when I did, all the shattered glass fell into the back. The perimeter of the windshield was still attached but the glass pieces were pushed outward like there had been an explosion inside my car. Google search showed this is happening with 2023 HR-Vs all over the country. I took photos (VERY IMPORTANT - take pix right away. ALSO IMPORTANT - don't touch the glass or fix it until Honda inspects it). I had to work & couldn't deal with it until a few days later, so I taped a trash bag over the windshield as best I could without touching the rest of the glass. It continued to break apart as I drove, but the sides stayed attached. Called my Honda dealer 3 days later. Spoke to a sales manager. He said to text him the photos, I also sent screenshots of google search results & NHTSA complaints. He called back & said to bring it in to service department. They inspected it when I pulled in. Within 20 mins they had called corporate, ordered the parts, & said they would repair on site within a week. Meanwhile they had pulled a rental car around for me. I signed a quick paper & was out the door. Zero cost to me. They were wonderful. Be polite, be patient, be truthful, and you will most often get the help you need from any business. I am a Honda customer for life!!!

Upon taking it to a Honda dealership, the service manager informed me that he has seen the issue on another 23 Sport as well. There were no indications that the back windshield was failing before it happened. I have owned this car for a year and used the rear defrost all last winter with no issues.

The glass on right side seemed warped. Honda mentions there is no recalls for the car. However there are various complaints online of people with similar experience occurring with 2023 HRV. Seems glass could be faulty.

I was in the drive thru of Burger King and the clerk was handing me my debit card when the rear windshield imploded. I filed a police report and the officer is going to pull the drive thru video to confirm that nothing was thrown or fell onto the windshield. I don't think anything fell or was thrown at the windshield...it just spontaneously imploded. It was sprinkling outside, and I had the rear defroster on. I think maybe the rear defroster got too hot and caused the window to implode. I ended up being late for work because of this.

I have a leased 2023 Honda HRV Sport from Tarrytown Honda in Tarrytown, NY with less than 6,500 miles. On Sunday, 9/10/23, my rear windshield completely shattered while I was driving for no apparent reason (photos available). There were no warning messages or other symptoms prior to the problem. There was no impact from another vehicle or object. It had been lightly raining, and my rear windshield wiper was on. This happened in a dangerous and busy location, 1.5 miles before the George Washington Bridge. I was driving from Westchester County, NY to Teaneck, NJ. I was merging from one busy NY Interstate (87-S) to another (95-S). I was driving by myself and not in a familiar area. I was able to pull into a triangle not intended for driving. However, someone could have easily rear ended me when I abruptly stopped upon seeing the damage. I could not drive the vehicle at first because I could not see out of the rear window. Over time, while waiting for the car to be towed, the read windshield began to crumble into the back cargo area of the car. After the car was towed, the majority of the window had crumbled into the back cargo area leaving a gigantic hole. My car is currently at Tarrytown Honda and has been inspected by both a sales manager and a service technician. I have 2 years remaining on my lease and I am under the Honda 3-year/36K-mile Warranty. I expected Honda to cover all costs, as this is clearly a manufacturer defect. However, my dealership service technician informed me that glass coverage is excluded from Honda’s warranty program. A claim has been filed with my auto insurance company, Geico. My policy includes complete glass coverage and car rental coverage for up to 30 days. Geico arranged for Safelite to replace my rear windshield at Tarrytown Honda, where my car is currently being stored in a garage. I imagine my vehicle is available for inspection prior to the service appointment with Safelite on 9/19/23.

My Honda HR-V was sitting in the parking lot when the back window just exploded by its own. There was no impact, no object hitting at all. Went to the dealer and they couldn’t do nothing. Call the Honda service and they told me to call the insurance. I bought this car less than a year I’m really disappointed with Honda assistance.

Rear view window spontaneously shattered while driving on the highway. Sending window shards into the inside of the vehicle. Vehicle was NOT in a collision, and no foreign objects were found in the vehicle and no exterior damage showed outside the vehicle to suggest damage caused by an object. CHP responded to the scene and stated this was odd because there was no impact points or foreign objects in the car that would cause such damage. I took the vehicle to a Honda service center after noticing other people online had similar issues, and that Honda was replacing some windows for some of those people. But I did not have luck with getting them to replace the window. So I had to lay out of pocket for the repair today.

My rear windshield shattered while vehicle was sitting a parking lot. I have a camera system installed and footage showed the glass shattering with no impact from any outside source. I took the vehicle to my local dealer, and they ordered new rear glass, and are going to take care of the repair no charge. It’s been a couple of weeks, and I am waiting on glass to arrive. Honda should recall, as this has the potential to be a dangerous situation for anyone that may be sitting in the rear seat, particularly a young child, or infant.

Driving about 20 mph. Rear windshield defrost was on and out of nowhere the rear windshield shattered. Very scary.

I got in my car this morning and and noticed immediately the rear windshield look like there was ice / frozen over since there was condensation on my other windows. I started my car and turned on the defroster button for my front and rear windshield. 10 minutes into driving, I heard a pop sound and noticed a hole in the rear windshield wiper. I thought it was a bag of chips in my trunk so I continued to driving to my destination, not really thinking much about it. At this time both the defrosters were turned off. When I got to my destination I noticed the hole/ opening in the rear windshield got bigger and upon inspection, 35% of my window fell into my trunk and shattered.

On August 1 at approximately 6:30 am I was traveling on Dorchester Rd. in Summerville, SC when I suddenly heard a loud POP noise and saw the hole in my rear windshield and that it had shattered. There was one person traveling behind me and no one in front so there was no debris from either cars. When I pulled over I called the police and they quickly responded and were concerned as I was, thinking I had been shot at. Upon further investigating, we learned that this is a "known" 2023 Honda HRV problem, after researching NHTS website. I contacted a local dealership but could not get any response other than there was no recall for the vehicle. Fortunately I was able to work with my insurance company to get it replaced, but not until a week later! I did use my rear defrost before leaving as there was some condensation on my rear window. This was a very scary situation and could have caused me to wreck or had I had a passenger in the back, they could have been injured. Very disappointed to read the number of reported incidents but no action is being taken. Having worked at Honda R&D for 32 years this is just not the Honda response one would expect.

My rear windshield basically exploded, for lack of a better word, last night! It was very scary and confusing. I was alone on the road. There were no cars around me. The glass immediately started to shattered. You could hear the crackling and a hole formed on the left hand side (drivers side) first. The entire windshield panel was destroyed. The black trimming included, that goes right up against the car. I need you to understand how terrifying this was! My 8 year old was shaking and crying in the back seat especially with the sound of the crackling. Before the hole formed it sounded like it was under intense pressure and was going to pop. I was shaking because I thought maybe someone hit my car with something they threw or god forbid something worse. Understand, I was driving with my son and it was 12:30am, so I pulled over to look around and was nervous someone was there and was going to do something. It wasn’t until I got home and really looked at the windshield that it made sense that I wasn’t hit by anything. I then googled to see if this was a problem and sure enough it is! My brother in law met me at my home to help remove the glass and cover the opening. We had to remove it, it was slowly crumbling everywhere.

On 8/21/23 I was driving my hrv on a ramp from i695 to i97 near Baltimore MD. Weather was humid.i has rear defroster running to clear the back window. Speed was only about 25mph . Suddenly heard a crashing sound. Looked in rear view mirror and the back hatch window was 100 pct shattered but still in place. Pulled over to the shoulder on i97 Found no evidence of external damage.had thought part of the underpass fell on it.called Safelite glass and they applied a crash wrap so we could return home to south Carolina. Safelite set up appointment for today. 8/23/23 for replacement under my car insurance .progressive Work completed today. But I feel Honda should reimburse progressivec insurance as check on Google indicates this is a defect of some sort with 2023 Honda hrv vehicles. Feel this is definite safety hazard

As I was driving my daughter to school my back windshield blew out. Nothing hit the windshield it blew out at the seams. It was a loud explosion that startled us both and had I been on the highway (which I was headed to) it could have caused us to crash.

I was sitting at a red light and my rear windshield exploded out of nowhere, nothing hitting it. I now see there are over 50 complaints of the same thing happening to HRVs. We've had the car less than a year. This is so, so dangerous, specifically because kids sit in the back seat. I really hope Honda does an investigation / recall. This is so scary and dangerous. Imagine if the front windshield shattered instead on someone driving... My dealer won't cover the cost, even though we are in warranty, and denies it is a problem with the glass when it clearly is. I am talking to the national Honda people now.

I used my rear defogger for a few minutes prior to driving. The defogger wasn't needed for the drive, I turned it off after 5 minutes of usage. After 40 minutes of driving, I smelled a faint burning smell. I arrived home at 7:59p and at 8:16 I heard a loud pop. My neighbor rang my doorbell and told me something had happened to my window. My rear window had a gaping hole in the upper left area. The glass broke from the inside out not from something being thrown at it. I have photos and video documentation. Fortunately, my dealer is working with me on getting it fixed under warranty....but clearly, there is a problem.

Yesterday 8/17 I was getting into my vehicle to leave work. I got into my HR-V and shut the drivers door, all of a sudden I hear a loud bang. The tailgate glass shattered all over the place. It seems as this is a common occurrence on these vehicle as I found multiple incidents of this occurring and complaints. This is not safe and vehicle is not safe to drive with this happening.

My rear windshield shattered spontaneously while driving on the freeway. No impact caused this event.

During early morning commute travelling at 45 mph, a pop was heard from behind. Rear window glass completely shattered into pieces. There was no sign of impact from the road, nor the interior of the cabin. Glass debris found on road and in rear compartment (trunk). Prior to incident, a noticeable rattle in glass could be heard under normal driving conditions. At 6,010 miles, the rattle was reported to dealership and diagnosed as being caused by Tailgate Trim. Tailgate Trim was ordered and replaced. The same rattle persisted after dealership remedy. Exact same rattle could be heard, no change in symptom. Vehicle driven to 21,961 miles before incident. Currently, glass shards prevent the tailgate from unlatching. Latch motor blocked by debris and rear compartment is inaccessible. Debris litter the inner cavity of the tailgate door panel. Minor paint scratches present from falling debris.

Drove the car this morning at 540am. Came back to my house and went out to leave a few hours later. Got into the car and the back windshield just imploded and shattered into pieces and left a huge hold in the left side. Contacted the dealership, they stated that they have had other people with the same issue but no actual recall on this so I would need to fix it.

Saturday August 5, 2023 my car was parked in public business lot from 12:40pm to 4:30pm. When I got to my car I noticed the whole back windshield was shattered. I called the dealership they ran my VIN# no recalls listed. Not sure if my car was vandalized or not. I looked online and there were pictures and reports of this happening to other people with the same car, make, model within the last 60 days of my incident.

I’m driving at First Colonial Rd almost 3 mins. to work when suddenly I’ve heard an strange loud explosion at the rear or back windshield and nobody hit me without a any hole but it’s a cracked that looks like a frosted window during winter. I was shocked to see how it shattered into pieces when I stopped and parked. This is only 1 year Honda HRV 2023 the reason I bought is for safety purposes on the road but it looks like there’s manufacturer defects because I wasn’t hit by any car when it exploded. How can we guarantee our safety if even a new model car is not safe to use and Honda dealership is giving us a hard time with this kind of incident? I bring my car in Honda Hall they only put a temporary plastic cover. Í called Honda Battlefield and told me to they will only put a temporary plastic same in Honda Hall which there’s no safety if it will accidentally removed will cause more trouble on the road due crumble glass or shattered glass. I noticed Honda Battlefield staff and the manager I spoke with last night offer me a trade in for my vehicle instead of hearing about what happened. They treated us with a very warming attitude upon closing the sales but after sales their avoiding us and not giving us the good service. If my grandchild child is with me that time when it exploded seated at the back it will cause more pain on our end. I hope to be heard with this complaint that Honda Battlefield need to be responsible and take ỉn charge for this incident of manufacturers defect or recall for their customers safety. The price of this honda hrv is not a joke and it’s frustrating that nobody wants to accommodate and give me the same quality customer service like when I buy my car. I hope this incident will be given ân appropriate action since the dealership is giving me a hard time with this issue.

While sitting at a stoplight, with no cars near me, I heard a shatter sound. My rear window glass has shattered for an unknown reason. I verified nothing had hit it. It was lightly raining, and I previously had the rear window defogger on.

While in park at a drive thru we heard a loud bang. The rear windshield shattered. No foreign objects could be located and people around the vehicle did not witness anything hitting the car. Contents of the car were searched and no reason for the window to shatter was found.

I was driving home from work, heard a loud boom and then noticed my rear windshield had shattered and there was a big hole. This startled me and almost caused me a panic attack which could have led into an accident. This had happened while the rear defrosters were in use during light rain and 75 degrees weather at about 9:40 pm. I immediately inspected the damages and for a possible cause but did not find anything unusual. The damages can be described as a hole approximately 10in x 10in and the edges falling off. Black trash bag is currently covering the window until I can figure out what to do.

I was driving my new HRV-EX-L 2023 model and due to some rain and heavy humidity my back windshield got foggy. I turned on the back windshield defogger and after about 10 minutes I heard a thug noise from the back. We turned around and the windshield was shattered. I am not so sure if that defogger device caused the shattering, but I am sure there is something faulty with the whole system. We inspected the whole vehicle and ascertained that nothing did hit or collided with our car. When we got home and we closed the front door the vibration made the whole back windshield collapsed in thousand of pieces. It could have been worse had it fall while driving on the road and considered that other cars were following behind and next to my vehicle. We contacted 2 large Southern Florida dealers that seem to be totally unaware of this issue and utterly not co-operative for either inspection or manufacturer fault. We are so disappointed with Honda and their service and level of responsability in view of the many cases that are arousing around this issue.

Rear Windshield Shattered Unexpectedly

The car was parked outside. Next thing I know I hear an explosion. I go out to see what it was and I found my rear window shattered. The window has been inspected and they won’t cover it saying there has been no recall issued so nothing they can do.

The back windshield spontaneously exploded while driving on the highway. There was no accident or damage leading up to the explosion and the car is under a year old. Glass was found in second row seating as well as the trunk. If there was a passenger in the back seat, they would have been impaled with glass resulting in injury. I immediately contacted the dealership and was instructed to call my insurance. They did not give me the option to bring the vehicle in for service. My insurance company sent me to a glass repair shop to have manufacturer glass reinstalled but I am still waiting for the glass to be delivered to the shop as it is a week out upon ordering. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms of problems prior to the explosion of the glass.

The rear window of my 2023 Honda HRV blew out and hit me in the arm as I was walking around the rear of the vehicle. I was parked in an open parking lot with nothing around to strike the glass in any way. Both seals on either side of the window blew out as well. I immediately took it to my local Honda dealer and they informed me I was the 2nd HRV who had come in for a blown out rear window in just one week! It’s a very new vehicle and no such recall exists yet but this is definitely a safety hazard!

I was driving at night with my rear defogger on, then when I got home and the vehicle was parked, I heard the rear window shattering, nothing at all hit it, it was spontaneous, I looked online because I was confused and found that other 2023 Honda HR-V owners had this happen to them. I called my local dealership and they told me that this is a known issue by Honda but that they did not make an public announcement regarding this. If somebody had been in the rear seat, near the trunk, or actively unloading the trunk they could have been injured.

My back window broke while i was parked outside my house sitting inside the vehicle with the A/C off. This made no sense whatsoever, yet my insurance didn’t cover back glasses so i had to pay fully out of pocket for the glass from Honda & then had to find myself someone to install it because not even the Honda i purchased it from installed back glasses, only front ones, they said. I really hope they do look into this because it’s really a shame all the struggle i had to go through for no reason, specially after the love i had for this vehicle.

UNKNOWN My rear windshield popped/shattered as I was driving on a rural highway at roughly 60 mph. I did not go under an over pass and there were no other cars nearby. The window simply exploded seemingly spontaneously. I believe I had the rear window defroster going at the time or shortly before as it was a cold day. It has not been inspected by Honda. There were no warning lamps or messages and there were no apparent issues with the rear window before it broke.

Back window shattered with no impact. Was told it is a flaw in the rear defrost.
