When the vehicle was recently brought in for annual PA state inspection, I was informed by the inspector that there was so much corrosion where the rear trailing arms attach to the subframe that the rear wheel on either side could suddenly collapse leading to a sudden and unpredictable loss of vehicle control. I then brought it to an authorized Honda dealership for their inspection. They produced a short video confirming that the car was unsafe to drive. Still shots from their inspection video are included with this complaint. I then consulted with a well-regarded body shop who confirmed that the car was unsafe to drive and that it probably could not be repaired. I believe that the 2010 Honda Insight rear subframe is very similar to the 2010 Honda CR V rear subframe which was recently recalled for exactly the same issue: Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-228
Rust at the body below rear door
Both sides of the car have rust. The similar issue happen to the HONDA CRV's 2007 through 2011 model, which have a recall already.
UNKNOWN. Rear frame on both sides are extremely rusted. Car purchased in Ohio in 2009 and appears the salt as eroded the car.
Corrosion of the body at the rear when exposed to normal driving conditions. The issue was validated by service center.
MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT MY CAR I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2018, IN BINGHAMTON NY. MY AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED, THE SEATBELT WAS DAMAGE, AND ALSO THE FRONT BUMPER. AFTER I HAD THE ACCIDENT I RECEIVED A RECALL PAPER AND WHEN I VERIFIED THE NUMBER I FOUND I HAD A RECALL. I CALLED AND TALKED TO THEM, I ALSO SEND THE FIRST COMPLAINT. THEY SENT ME AN APPLICATION I FILLED IT OUT AND SENT IT BACK. WHEN I CALL THEY SAID TO ME THEY STILL WORKING ON IT. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE PAINT USED BY HONDA. OUR OTHER CAR - A TOYOTA - WHICH IS 3 YEARS OLDER AND SAME COLOR KEPT IN SAME CONDITIONS IS LOOKING JUST FINE - HOWEVER THE PAINT ON OUR HONDA'S ROOF AND HOOD HAS DISINTEGRATED. IT LOOKS AWFUL. WHEN PICKING UP MY CAR AFTER A TIRE ROTATION AT COSTCO - A GENTLEMAN RECOMMENDED I CONTACT HONDA. I DID. THEY BASICALLY SAID - OH WELL, TOO BAD. WE'LL MAKE A NOTE OF IT IN CASE SOMETHING COMES UP.

WINDOW DOOR MOLDINGS MADE AOUT OF RUBBER ARE BRITLE AND DESINTEGRATING MAKING THE WINDOW LOOSE THEREFORE MAKING THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE NOISY. APPARENTLY THE QUALITY OF THIS RUBBER ARE VERY CHEAP IT DOES NOT LAST MORE THAN THREE YEARS. BY THE WAY IT CUT ONE OF MY FINGERS WHEN I WAS CLEANING THE WINDOW. I TOLD A HONDA DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR ABOUT THIS, AND SHE KINDLY TOLD ME THAT SHE DOESNT KNOW WHY ALL HONDAS DO THESE.....WELL, 'IT'S BECAUSE HONDA IS USING CHEAP MATERIALS," I TOLD HER. IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME SITUATION AS ME, PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC COMPUTER BOX FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MOULDING SEAL AROUND REAR TRIANGLE (NON-OPENING) WINDOWS DETACHED ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR CREATING AN UNSEALED WINDOW AND CAUSING RUBBER 'STRIPS' TO FLAP WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OVER 35MPH. SOON AFTER, THE ENTIRE RUBBER SEAL ON PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DETACHED ALLOWING MOISTURE AND OTHER ELEMENTS TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MOULDING IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURERS NOR EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS PURCHASED AND THAT REPAIRS WOULD COST A MINIMUM OF $800. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT MAINTAIN A DATABASE OF DEFECTS. I HAVE OWNED HONDAS IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER FOUND THEM TO BE SO SHODDILY CONSTRUCTED. WHEN I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED MY INSIGHT, I NOTICED THAT THE WEATHER STRIPPING WAS FOLDING UP. I HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE IT, AND WITHIN 2 DAYS, THE WEATHER STRIPPING FLEW OFF AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN. 3 MONTHS LATER, SAME THING HAPPENED. THE WEATHER STRIPPING, CAME OFF AS I WAS DRIVING CAUSING A TRAFFIC HAZARD. THIS TIME I WENT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, AND THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO PUT DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ON THE WEATHER STRIPPING. ITS NOW BEEN 2 WEEKS, AND THE ENDS OF THE STRIPPING IS COMING UP AGAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN HE BEGAN TO HEAR AN UNUSUAL SLAPPING NOISE FROM THE ROOF AND COULD SEE SOMETHING SLAPPING AGAINST THE REAR WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE CONTACT FOUND THAT HALF OF THE WEATHER STRIPPING FROM THE ROOF HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. HE REMOVED THE ENTIRE WEATHER STRIPPING AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONE YEAR LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,020.
