DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I GOT A EMERGENCY TONE TELLING ME SOMETHING WAS WRONG, BUT NO INDICATION ON THE DASH. I FOUND A COUPLE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND STOPPED BY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER (PIAZZA), BUT THEY SAID THE VIN HAS NO RECALLS AND THE RECALL IS TOO OLD. I JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE A MONTH AGO. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE KNOWN BY HONDA AND EVEN IF IT IS HAPPENING ONLY NOW, THE DEALER SHOULD REPAIR AT NO COST TO ME.

SLIDING DOOR ALWAYS WAS DEFECTIVE FROM 2006. ALWAYS NOT CLOSING TO THE END. ONE SLIDER DOOR OUTSIDE HANDLE NOT WORKING FROM 2006, PROBABLY CABLE BROKEN INSIDE OF SLIDER DOOR. SLIDING DOOR HANDLE IS LOSE. MY WIFE NOT USING SLIDER DOOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS, BECAUSE IT STOCK AND CAN'T OPEN AT ALL. FRONT DOOR LOCK ALSO NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. ALSO I WANT REPLACE ALL AIR BACK IN MY MINI VAN, I NEVER RECEIVE ANY PAPER RECALL FROM DEALER.
1999 HONDA ODYSSEY. BOTH OF DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE SLIDING DOORS WOULD NOT LATCH PROPERLY AND COULD NOT BE SECURED BECAUSE BOTH LATCHES BROKE OFF . THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR PLASTIC LATCH CRACKED AND BROKE, AND THE ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR BROKE OFF AND DETACHED. BOTH SLIDING DOORS CAN NOT BE SECURED. IT WAS DISCOVERED BECAUSE THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR CAN NOT BE CLOSED, LEAD ME TO INSPECT THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR, AND IT SHOWED THAT THE LATCH HAS BEEN CRACKED AND BROKE, BUT IT IS STILL IN PLACE. IT ALLOWS THE DOOR TO CLOSE BUT NOT LATCH PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE SIDE SLIDING DOOR AND THE DOOR OPENED PARTIALLY BEFORE BECOMING STUCK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE DOOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.

THERE WAS A RECALL BACK ON 4/25/00 FOR THE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY. THE RECALL # WAS 00V119000. I'M HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AGAIN WITH THE DOOR NOT CLOSING ALL THE WAY. I CALLED HENNESSEY HONDA IN WOODSTOCK, GA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT RECALL ON RECORD. THEN THEY WENT ON TO SAY THAT THEY WON'T FIX IT AGAIN. I CHECKED THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE RECALLS AND DON'T SEE WHERE THIS WAS DONE. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR WHEN IT WAS ALREADY DETERMINED THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT? IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON HOW LONG HONDA WILL FIX THIS REPAIR FOR FREE? *KB
THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ON MY 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS FAILED TO OPEN ON MANY OCCASIONS AND I DIDN'T THINK OF IT AS ANYTHING MORE THAN A NUISANCE. THIS TIME ONE OF MY CHILDREN'S FINGERS WAS CAUGHT IN THE DOOR AND WE WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR EITHER FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES UNTIL WE GOT A PASSERBY TO FORCE IT OPEN. HIS FINGER WAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DAMAGED THAN IF WE HAD BEEN ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY OPEN THE DOOR, NOT TO MENTION THE PANIC AND DISTRESS AND BEING TRAPPED. *TR

EVERY WINTER SINCE WE PURCHASED OUR 1999 ODYSSEY BRAND NEW, THE POWER SLIDING DOORS WOULD FREEZE AND LOCK UP. IT WILL NOT WORK. SINCE OUR ODYSSEY IS OUT OF MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, THE COST TO REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE - A DEALER ESTIMATED $2000 JUST TO FIX ONE DOOR. SO WE DECIDED NOT TO FIX THE SLIDING POWER DOORS AND JUST OPEN THEM MANUALLY INSTEAD. EVEN IN MANUAL MODE, THEY STILL FREEZE DURING WINTER. I BOUGHT MY 1999 ODYESSE IN MARCH OF 2004. I TOOK MY VAN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHY MY DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WAS NOT CLOSING COMPLETLY. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE LATCHES AND HINGES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TOTALLING $420. THEY CHECKED MY WARRANTY AND THOSE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T HAVE $420, TO REPAIR THE DOOR. ONE WEEK LATER THE OTHER SLIDING DOOR STOPPED CLOSING ALL THE WAY. I LOOKED UP THE 1999 ODYESSE TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS AND THERE ARE PLENTY, BUT WHEN I SPOKE WITH AMERICA HONDA THEY SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER HAD NO RECALLS. THEN I SPOKE WITH THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN TOWN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ONLY RECALL FOR MY VIN WAS FOR THE TRANSMISSION. SO, I BELIEVE THERE IS A LOT BEING COVERED UP. I HAVE FOUR SMALL CHILDREN THAT ARE RIDE IN THIS VAN EVERYDAY AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THIS WEB-SITE MY CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE WITH DOORS THAT CAN JUST COME OPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

THE FRONT DOORS ON THIS VAN DO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE "NOTCHES," FOR THE DOOR TO REST WHEN OPEN. MOST DOORS ARE MADE IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY CAN BE FULLY AND/OR PARTIALLY OPEN AND HAVE THE DOORS REST IN A RELATIVELY SECURE STATE SUCH THAT THE DOOR WON'T OPEN OR CLOSE SUDDENLY. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IF THE VEHICLE IN ON A SLIGHT INCLINE WHERE GRAVITY CAN CAUSE THE DOOR TO SWING OPEN AND HIT ANOTHER CAR (AS IN A PARKING LOT) OR PERSON; OR CLOSE BY ITSELF AND HIT A PASSENGER WHO MIGHT BE ENTERING OR EXITING. THE DOORS ON THE 1999 ODYSSEY JUST SEEM TO SIT AT WHATEVER POSITION YOU SET THEM TO. THERE IS A SLIGHT FEEL OF A NOTCH IN THE FULLY OPENED POSITION, BUT IT'S NOT OBVIOUS AND CERTAINLY NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO COUNTER ANY FORCE THAT TRIES TO MOVE IT. THE PROBLEMS I FACE IS THAT MY DRIVEWAY HAS A SLIGHT INCLINE. EVEN THE SLIGHTEST TILT IN THE VEHICLE (NOSE UP) WILL CAUSE THE DOORS TO CLOSE BY ITSELF WHEN LET GO. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MAKE SURE THAT THE KIDS ARE USING THE SLIDING DOORS (AND THEY HAVE THEIR OWN SET OF PROBLEMS AS MANY OTHER ODYSSEY OWNERS ALREADY KNOW) WHEN THERE'S THE POTENTIAL FOR THEM TO USE THE FRONT DOORS TO GET IN AND OUT JUST TO PREVENT THE YOUNGER KIDS FROM GETTING HURT. AND OF COURSE, I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I DON'T GET CAUGHT MYSELF IF I STEP OUT AND TURN AROUND TO REACH FOR SOMETHING ON THE FLOOR (FOR INSTANCE). RECENTLY, WE HAD SOME MODERATELY HIGH WINDS AND THE DOORS BLEW SHUT WITH THE CAR ON LEVEL GROUND. I'M NOT TALKING HURRICANES OR EVEN GALE FORCE WINDS; I'M TALKING THE WIND BLOWING HARDER THAN NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED ON 3 OCCASIONS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND TWICE AFTER WARRANTY PERIOD. THE PROBLEM RECURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH VISIT. NOW THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS WITHOUT ANY ASSURANCE THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT RECUR. I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS AS WELL AND WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT IT. *JB

MY SISTER HAS A 2000 ODYSSEY AND PULLED THE ENTIRE HANDLE OFF THE DOOR TRYING TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. HONDA HAS 2 SERVICE BULLETINS DETAILING A FIX FOR REPLACING THE WEATHERSTRIPPING BUT THEY WON'T COVER THE COST FOR ME BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THESE DOORS SHOULD BE RECALLED.
HONDA SAID THE OTHER 3 RECALLS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM OF 1999'S DOES NOT COVER MINE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR DOOR IS A HAZARD AND COULD OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY. THEY SHOULD FIX MINE JUST LIKE THEY FIXED THE OTHERS. MAYBE THEY SHOULD START ANOTHER RECALL. DT
AT 73,000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM. TWO INCIDENTS WERE CITED IN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURES THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. THIS CAR IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE, I AM SCARED OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN EVEN IF THE TRANSMISSION IS REPLACED. SEVERAL POSTS TO THE INTERNET INDICATE THAT PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UP TO THREE TIMES OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I UNDERSTAND HONDA HAS ISSUED A RECALL OR EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE 2000-2001 ODYSSEYS BUT WILL NOT BEING DOING ANYTHING FOR THE 1999 MODEL. ALSO, THE LOCKING ACTUATOR ON THE DOOR OF THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED REPEATEDLY. THE ALARM SYSTEM WILL ARM, BUT THE DOOR IS NOT LOCKED. WHEN THE DOOR IS THEN OPENED THE ALARM SOUNDS. THIS HAS SCARED MY CHILDREN ENOUGH TO MAKE THEM RUN FROM THE VEHICLE TO THE STREET. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO CORRECTED NOW, BUT IT TOOK THREE TRIES. NLM

IN AUGUST THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY ADVISED IT HAD A BROKEN CENTER ROLLER AND IT WAS REPLACED (AT A DEDUCTIBLE COST 100). IN NOVEMBER THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE SAME DOOR THEY WORKED ON WAS BEEPING CONTINUOUSLY (THE CHIME FOR THE DOOR NOT LATCHED), AND THAT THERE WAS 1 OCCURRENCE OF THE DOOR OPENING ON THE HIGHWAY 1FOOT ON IT'S OWN. THE DEALER LOOKED IT AND ADVISED IT HAD A BROKEN LATCH. OVER THE NEXT 2 WEEKS THEY WERE CONTACTED 2 TIMES FOR ME TO BE ADVISED IT WASN'T IN YET. 3 WEEKS AFTER THE LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID I COULD BRING IT IN ON FRIDAY 12/28. BY THIS TIME THE DOOR HAD OPENED FOR THE SECOND TIME ON IT'S OWN. THEY INITIALLY LOOKED AT THE DOOR AND ASKED WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM--THEY WERE AGAIN ADVISED OF THE PROBLEMS. THEY REPLACED THE DOOR LATCH AGAIN AT A DEDUCTIBLE COST OF 100. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THEY WORK ON THESE ALL OF THE TIME AND HE FELT THEY SHOULD GET A BETTER FIX SINCE IT IS SAFETY RELATED (MINI-VAN, DOORS OPENING ON OWN, CHILDREN--DIDN'T MIX). THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A CANADIAN MODEL. VIN [XXX], I HAVE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NOTICE 00V119000 BUT WAS ADVISED MY VEHICLE DIDN'T "NEED" THAT DONE. CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT DUE TO MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN WAS UNABLE TO OVERRIDE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK BY USING DOOR HANDLE. DESIGN ISSUE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR DISABLED OR ELDERLY PERSONS TO REACH ACROSS THEIR SHOULDERS TO LIFT/MOVE MANUAL UNLOCK SWITCH. *AK THE LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH FOR THE DOORS DOES NOT OPERATE WHEN ELECTRICAL POWER IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE SUNVISORS ARE SO LOOSE THAT WHEN NORMAL BREAKING PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE CAR, THE VISORS WILL MOVE OUT OF POSITION IF NOT LOCKED, BLINDING THE DRIVER. THE VISORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE, RE-TIGHTENED ONCE. TWO DEALERSHIPS CLAIM THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. I CONTACTED HONDA WHO SAID THAT ONLY A DEALER COULD REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
