I AM NOW WITHOUT CAR DUE A SIMPLE BOOK ERROR.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SECOND HAND IN 2012 AND IMMEDIATELY NEEDED TO HAVE ITS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,000. EVEN NOW THERE IS OCCASIONAL SLIPAGE OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION, WHICH INDICATES TO ME IT MAY NOT BE LONG FOR THIS WORLD. IT'S PAINFULLY OBVIOUS HONDA BUILT AND INSTALLED SUP PAR TRANSMISSIONS FOR MANY YEARS, DESPITE MOUNTAINS OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS. THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN TO TASK FOR POOR DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE OIL FAILURE CAUSED THE DRIVE BELTS TO SLIP, WHICH CAUSED A FAILURE IN THE ALTERNATOR RECHARGING THE BATTERY AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE OIL LEAK. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT (STOCKTON HONDA, 2002 E HAMMER LN, STOCKTON, CA 95210, (844) 237-1845), BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. RESTARTED CAR, ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE, AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO ENGAGE IN ANY FORWARD GEAR. WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE, BUT NOT IN A FORWARD GEAR. HAD CAR TOWED TO HONDA DEALER IN MANCHESTER, CT. DEALER SUBSEQUENTLY CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE REQUIRED A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. WE THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY A FILTER AS OTHER VEHICLES HAVE HAD. WHEN WE GOT IT HOME, WE CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION HAS NO WAY TO CHANGE FLUID OR FILTER. I CALLED HONDA ABOUT A RECALL, THEY SAID NO RECALLS. IT WOULD ONLY COST ME $3797 DEALER COST TO REPLACE IT. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND THAT HONDA STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM EVERY VEHICLE YEAR UP TO 2012. I THINK IF THEY CAN PRODUCE AND USE SUCH A TRANSMISSION, THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THEM ALL. I SPOKE WITH ED VOYLES HONDA AND HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ADVISED THAT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING ELSE CONCERNING THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT PER THEIR JAPAN OFFICE. WELL, AFTER A 4HR ROAD TRIP, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON, AND I DIDN'T REALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, UNTIL I STOPPED AND HAD TO MAKE A LT HAND TURN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THEREFORE DID NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY (SERVICE BULLETIN 02-062). THE SERVICE GUY TOOK THE RECEIPT WITH HIM INTO THE GARAGE BAY, TALKED TO THE MANAGER AND CAME BACK OUT. HE TOLD ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD COST ME $2500-$4500 TO REPLACE IT. IN RESPONSE TO AN ACKNOWLEDGED DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION USED IN THE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEYS HONDA RESPONDS BY EXTENDING WARRANTIES TO 7YR/100,000 MILES. HOWEVER BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS A CANADIAN MODEL ODYSSEY IT DOESN'T MATTER TO AMERICAN HONDA THAT IS WAS AFFECTED BY THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION THEY WILL NOT HONOR ANY SERVICE TO CORRECT THEIR ACKNOWLEDGED MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED/USED IN THE US SO HONDA OF CANADA WILL NOT HONOR ANY SERVICE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. A SLIGHT BEARING GROWL WAS AUDIBLE FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES BEFORE FAILURE AT 55,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING HARD FROM 1-2, AND SLOWLY ON OTHER SHIFTS. TOOK VEHICLE TO REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HAD IT REBUILT AT A COST $3100. EVIDENTLY, HONDA HAS EXTENDED ITS WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS/ 100,000 MILES TO VEHICLES WHOSE VIN # FALLS WITHIN THE LOT OF THOSE WITH ABNORMALLY HIGH TRANSMISSION FAILURE RATES. SINCE MY VEHICLE IS CLASSIFIED AS A 'GREY MARKET', IT DOESN'T QUALIFY TO RECEIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. BUT IF THIS VEHICLE HAD STAYED IN CANADA, HONDA WOULD'VE REPLACED IT WHEN IT FAILED. OR IF THIS SAME VEHICLE HAD SPENT A YEAR/ 12,000 MILES IN CANADA BEFORE IT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE U.S., HONDA WOULD'VE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. BUT THEY WON'T FOR ME DUE TO A TECHNICALITY. HONDA USA WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS A "GRAY MARKET VECHICLE" AND SAID WE MUST DEAL WITH HONDA CANADA, AND HONDA CANADA SAYS IT IS A US PROBLEM AND WON'T DEAL WITH IT. WHILE THE DEALER IS SUPPORTIVE AND THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS WORKED WITH US, THEY DIRECT US TO THE MANUFACTURER AS THEY SAY THE THIRD PARTY COVERAGE HAS EXPIRED AND THE GRAY MARKET VECHICLE HAS NO WARRANTY. I FEEL I HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT NEITHER HONDA OR THE DEALER WILL STAND BEHIND THEIR VECHICLE. WHEN I DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH HONDA CANADA, THEY TOLD ME THE VIN INDICATED THAT A PREVIOUS OWNER WAS BUDGET RENTAL CARS, SO HOW THEY ARE INVOLVED IN THE SHIFTING OF DEALER INVENTORY IS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE IN THIS WAY, AND WHY THE MANUFACTURER AND/OR THE DEALER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND ADDRESS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. IN DECEMBER 2003, THE TRANSMISSION AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINI VAN. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND HAD ONLY 65,000 MILES ON IT--TOO SOON TO NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT HONDA HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS AND THE HONDA DEALER I TOOK IT TO ADMITTED AS MUCH. TO FIX THIS KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR VEHICLES, HONDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON TRANSMISSIONS ON MANY OF THEIR CARS INCLUDING MY YEAR MODEL AND MAKE. SO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT HONDA WOULD REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION FOR FREE. HOWEVER, WHEN THEY PULLED UP MY VIN I WAS GIVEN THE UNFORTUNATE NEWS THAT MY CAR HAS A CANADIAN VIN--A SUPPOSED "GREY MARKET VEHICLE" AND THAT HONDA VOIDS THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF A GREY MARKET VEHICLE. SO EVEN THOUGH MY HONDA ODYSSEY WAS MADE IN THE EXACT SAME CANADIAN PLANT WITH THE EXACT SAME SUB STANDARD TRANSMISSION AS THE CARS THEY ARE REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS ON, HONDA REFUSED TO PAY FOR MY TRANSMISSION. THIS IS IN MY OPINION A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT; WHEN MY TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING, MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE IN ACCELERATION. I WAS SO AFRAID THAT I WOULD PULL OUT IN FRONT OF SOMEONE OR BE TURNING AND MY CAR WOULDN'T GO AND THEY WOULD CRASH INTO MY VAN WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK. 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN'S TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE VAN WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 1999 AND HAS 51,200 MILES ON IT. THE VAN HAS HAD ALL THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE. A NEW VEHICLE WITH ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND PROPER CARE SHOULD NOT HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FAILING ALREADY. HAVE TALKED WITH HONDA MECHANIC WHO SAYS THAT 2000 V6 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN'S HAVE A KNOWN TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT HONDA MOTOR COMPANY IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY OR DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT DALLAS AREA HONDA DEALERSHIPS ARE SEEING MORE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEYS VANS WITH FAILED TRANSMISSIONS. FAY OIA HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED ON YOUR NHTSA AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD FAILED TRANSMISSIONS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL. SAID A CLUTCH SILINOID WOULD BE REPLACED AND 3 TRANSMISSION FLUSHES WERE RECOMMENDED. AFTER FLUSHES WERE DONE, PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION BUT THAT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER AND DOESN'T HAVE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL. TRANSMISSION HAS YET TO BE REPLACED. ON JUNE 16, 2000 MY 2000 HONDA ODYESSY WAS REAR ENDED OR HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR BUMPER. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH ONLY 6,000 MILES ON THE ODYESSY. I WAS SOUTHBOUND ON EUCLID AVE. AT INTERSTATE 5. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN A UPHILL POSITION. I WAS THE FIRST VEHICLE AT THE LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURN GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO GO AND MY ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND THEN CAUGHT AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED OUT. THIS CAUSED THE ODYSSEY TO LURCH FORWARD AND THEN STOP SUDDENLY. WHEN THE ODYSSEY STOPPED I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO GO SO THAT NO BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON TO WARN THE DRIVERS TO MY REAR THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO STOP. MY ODYSSEY WAS HIT IN THE REAR BUMPER BY THE VEHICLE TO MY REAR. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE ANAHEIM POLICE WHO CAME TO THE SCENE AND MADE REPORT # DR NO 00-23199. THE VEHICLE TO MY REAR WAS WITHOUT INSURANCE. I REPORTED THIS ACCIDENT TO HONDA OF AMERICA AND THE CALLED ME BACK TO INFORM ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD AN APPRAISAL OF MY DAMAGES YET IT COULD BE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. I AM HOLDING OFF BECAUSE ON THE APPRAISAL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE BEHIND MINE HAD NO INSURANCE AND AMERICAN HONDA CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS A BRAND NEW MINIVAN, PURCHASED WITH ONLY 9 MILES IN ODOMETER. AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING IT, IT BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE IT NEED IT MORE REV IN ORDER TO PICK-UP SPEED, SPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN FREEWAY CONDITIONS (TRAFFIC). THE VAN DID NOT DOWNSHIFT AS EXPECTED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, IN ORDER TO GAIN SPEED, I HAD TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE ENGINE REACHED 3K RPM, AND EVEN THEN THE TRANSMISSION NOISE CONTINUED. IT IS NOT A CONTINUOS OCCURANCE, IT IS DOING IT EVERY FOUR TO FIVE DAYS. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE VAN AND SERVICE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THROUGH A COMPUTER, WHICH DETECTED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VAN, ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE MANAGER HAD NOTICED THE PROBLEM. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE I WAS GIVEN THE VAN BACK WITHOUT ANYTHING DONE TO IT, EXCEPT FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH. FIVE DAYS LATTER, ON APRIL 17, 2000 THE NOISE AND TRAIN PROBLEM SHOWED UP AGAIN, THIS TIME MORE SERIOUS. I TOOK THE VAN TO ANOTHER DEALER, AND THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER TEST THAT AGAIN SHOWED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE NEW SERVICE ADVISER DID NOTICE THE PROBLEM WHEN HE TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. HONDA WAS CONTACTED AND THE COMPANY ADVICED A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. BEING SUCH A POPULAR MODEL THE NEEDED TRANSMISSION IS NOT AVAILABLE AND ACCORDING TO HONDA IT WILL TAKE UP TO 30 DAYS TO GET A REPLACEMENT , HOPEFULLY NEW. ANOTHER AREA OF CONCERN IS THE BRAKE PEDAL, ONE CAN HEAR THE BOOSTER WHEN PRESSING THE PEDAL AND AT TIMES THE BRAKES DO NOT ENGAGE INMEDIATELLY. SO FAR SERVICE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM SINCE THE TRANSMISSION MATTER IS OF MORE IMPORTANCE.
