The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the engine revved up high however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a burning odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over and waited for a while before restarting the vehicle and driving to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic nor a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

We were driving and was at a stop, when we went to go, our van wouldn't move. We shut it off then restarted it and it was ok for about a mile then started shaking a little & we could only go about 10 mph on a highway. We got home after it being off restarted it it goes into gear but won't go anywhere no warning lights came on at all we keep up on maintenance too.

I HAD NOT PULLED FORWARD, BUT HE STILL TOTALED MY CAR. SURPRISINGLY, MY AIRBAGS DID NOT INFLATE. THE COLLISION BENT MY HOOD, CRACKED THE GRILL, BROKE THE BUMPER.

ON 8/25/2016 I TOOK MY 2004 ODYSSEY TO ANDERSON HONDA AT PALO ALTO FOR NORMAL OIL CHANGE. AFTER THE WORK WAS DONE THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE OIL DRAIN PLUG WOULD NOT TORQUE DOWN TO SPECS (JUST SPINS). THE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE OIL PAN. ANDERSON HONDA'S SERVICE ADVISOR DENIED THAT THEY OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG. THE MILEAGE WAS ONLY 67637, THE PLUG HAD BEEN TAKEN OFF AND PUT ON FOR ONLY ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES AND IT'S THE ORIGINAL HONDA PART IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. BEFORE THE OIL CHANGE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND DURING THE LAST TIME MAINTENANCE AT ANOTHER HONDA DEALER THE CAR WAS CHECKED WITH EVERYTHING OK. ON 8/29/2016 I TOOK MY CAR TO VICTORY HONDA AT SAN BRUNO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OIL PAN WAS REPLACED. THE OLD OIL PAN SHOWED THE SCREW IN THE OIL PAN WAS DAMAGED BY THE STEEL PLUG. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM COULD BE: 1 ANDERSON HONDA'S TECHNICIAN OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG AND DAMAGED THE OIL PAN. BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY ARE HONDA OFFICIAL DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T OVER-TORQUED IT. 2. HONDA'S PARTS OR DESIGNS HAVE DEFECT. THEY SHOULD NOT PUT STEEL PLUG ONTO A SOFT METAL PAN DIRECTLY. I THINK THE COST OF REPLACING DAMAGED OIL PAN SHOULD BE PAID EITHER BY ANDERSON HONDA OR HONDA OF AMERICA. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT PAY FOR THEIR FAULT. NOVEMBER 2014 I DROVE THE CAR TO MY GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE 5 HOURS AWAY FOR THANKSGIVING AND THE DAY AFTER THE RETURN TRIP THE CAR BEGAN SLIPPING GEARS. HONDA WANTS $5,100 TO FIX IT. THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN IT NOW IF THEY INDEED PUT A NEW ONE IN IT IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT!! THAT IS RIDICULOUS!! DRIVING 2004 ODYSSEY (140K MILES) DOWN I-95 IN RICHMOND (FROM NOVA) AND STARTED LOSING POWER (DROPPING SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS). BAD SMELL AND SMOKE OUT THE BACK LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. FOUND A SHOP THAT REPLACED THE CC. WHILE REPLACING THEY NOTICED LOTS OF OIL UNDER MY VEHICLE. TURNS OUT IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE SHOP TOPPED OFF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID (4 QTS), LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE, DIDN'T SEE A LEAK, AND I DROVE OFF THE LOT. I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON SO I RETURNED TO THE AUTO SHOP. THEY WERE HAVING TROUBLE ERASING THE ERROR CODE SO THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF SO THEY RECOMMENDED I HAVE IT FIXED WHEN I RETURNED HOME. I WAS ON MY WAY TO A NORTH CAROLINA BEACH WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (ALBEIT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL LIT). LOCAL DRIVING AT THE BEACH AT LOW SPEEDS (BELOW 40 MPH) CAUSED NO ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING WEEK ON MY WAY FROM THE NC BEACH TO NOVA, THE TCS LIGHT WAS NOW LIT (IN ADDITION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT). WITHIN A FEW MILES I ENCOUNTERED A SIMILAR SITUATION WHILE HEADING NORTH ON I-95 (AS I DID THE WEEK BEFORE WHILE HEADING SOUTH ON I-95) THOUGH NOT AS SEVERE (SLIGHT DROP IN SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS, BAD SMELL WITH SMOKE OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE). I FOUND OUT THE NEXT DAY ABOUT THE HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE I WAS LUCKY TO GET 140K OUT OF IT, THOUGH NOT HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT THE LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY HONDA. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN LOYAL HONDA CUSTOMERS SINCE 1984 WITH 4 VEHICLES PURCHASED. NO MORE. *TR

IT WAS THURSDAY, EARLY EVENING, AND I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD, APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, WHEN THE 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN'S POWER CUT OUT. THE ENGINE WENT DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT JUST SUDDENLY CUT OFF FOR NO REASON. I WAS ABLE WITH DIFFICULTY TO STEER IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE IGNITION "OFF" AND CALLED MY HUSBAND THINKING I MIGHT NEED AAA TO COME TOW THE CAR. AFTER THE VAN SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START AGAIN, BUT IT SOUNDED TERRIBLE AND THE ENGINE'S ENGAGEMENT FELT WEAK. I WAS A FEW MILES FROM AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND DECIDED TO SLOWLY DRIVE IT THERE AND LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT. I WAS TOLD THE NEXT DAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON MY VAN OF WHICH I WAS UNAWARE. I LOOKED UP THE RECALLS ON THE NHTSA SITE THAT HONDA AND ISSUED AND NOTICED THAT MY VAN'S VIN NUMBER WAS IN THE RANGE THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I CALLED LOCAL HONDA DEALERS ABOUT THIS AS WELL AS THE HONDA CORPORATE NUMBER. EACH SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH MY VAN'S VIN WAS IN THE BATCH THAT WAS RECALLED AND EVEN THOUGH THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED WAS THE REASON FOR THE RECALL, THEY DID NOT FEEL OBLIGED TO ASSIST WITH THE VAN'S REPAIR. NEITHER THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER NOR HONDA CORPORATE WOULD GIVE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THEY FELT THEY DID NOT NEED TO SHOULDER ANY OF THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT COSTS. I BELIEVE THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW. CAN CORPORATIONS LIKE HONDA REALLY GET AWAY WITH IGNORING THE LAW? AFTER PAYING FOR A $4,600 TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIGHT THEM. *TR

THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAS BEEN A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE UPON ACCELERATION FOR SOME TIME. I BROUGHT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY ARE TELLING US THAT WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS AT OVER $1000.00. HE HAS TOLD US THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL VEHICLE. WE HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY OTHERS COMPLAINING TO YOU AND HONDA, AS WELL AS OTHER FORUM BOARDS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS BEING OVERLOOKED BY HONDA. MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PART. THEY SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT ALL. AS YOU KNOW, FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC RESULTS CAUSING A VEHICLE TO CAREEN INTO OTHERS, DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP. THIS SHOULD CLEARLY BE A RECALL ISSUE. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE FOOTING THE BILL FOR AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA IS CHOOSING TO IGNORE. 5/6/14 TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL SERVICE STATION FOR DIAGNOSIS OF CLUNKING ENGINE NOISE. HAD TO PAY $1400 TO REPLACE BOTH MOTOR MOUNTS THAT WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT . ALSO HAS TO REPLACE THE OUTER TIE RODS THAT WERE WORN OUT CREATING A COMPLETELY UNSAFE VEHICLE. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE D LIGHT WENT BLACK. SUDDENLY IT CAME BACK ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION AND THEY NOW DIAGNOSED IT WITH THE P0740 CODE TCC LOCKUP SOLENOID. CALLED SEVERAL TRANSMISSION SHOPS THAT TOLD ME THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $3500 AND UP. THIS IS VERY DISCERNING THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T LAST LONGER AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND HONDA REFUSES TO ISSUE THE RECALL ON ALL 2004 TRANSMISSIONS. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLETINS OUT THERE REFERRING TO THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST STATING THE VEHICLE IS WAY OUT OF WARRANTY TO ASSIST FINANCIALLY. I HAVE HAD ALL THE SERVICE DONE AT THE DEALER UNTIL THERE WAS AN ISSUE LAST YEAR WITH THE HEATING/AIR CONDITIONER THAT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY FIX AFTER 6 VISITS AND NUMEROUS COOLANT FLUSHES. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THAT LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HELP. NOW I'M STUCK WITH A MONEY PIT AND CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. NEVER AGAIN HONDA. THEY HAVE CERTAINLY LOST MY LOYALTY AFTER ALL THIS. WE HAVE A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY, BOUGHT IT USED IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 WITH 79,766 MILE. NOW AT 91,160 MILE, IT'S HAVING MAJOR ISSUES. ON OCTOBER 12, 2013, WE DROVE THE VAN TO THE STORE AND BACK HOME JUST FINE. ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 14TH WHEN WE TRIED TO DRIVE THE VAN AGAIN, IT WOULD NOT REVERSE OR DRIVE AT ALL. HAD NOTICED RECENTLY THAT WHEN SWITCHING GEARS THE VAN "JUMPED" AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SEEMED TO VIBRATE/SHAKE. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MUCH INVESTIGATION, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS BEING WORKED ON IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT ALL OF THE MOUNTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED COMPLETELY SO THIS WAS A COMPLETE SHOCK -- AT LEAST UNTIL I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH, SAW THE RECALL NOTICE OF OVER 1-MILLION HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS (HOWEVER MY VIN # DIDN'T COME UP!) AND SAW JUST HOW MANY TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS THERE WERE FROM OTHER OWNERS ALSO NOT PART OF THE RECALL. BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, I CHOSE MY RECOMMENDED LOCAL AAMCO SHOP TO DO THE REPAIRS. CALLED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO "GOODWILL" CLAIM BECAUSE (A) THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DO THE REPAIR AND (B) THE TRANSMISSION IS ONLY WARRANTIED BY HONDA FOR 36/36,000 (NO WONDER!!). HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT HONDA RARELY PROVIDES "GOODWILL" CLAIMS AND IF THEY DO, I'D BE LUCKY TO RECEIVE $400, SO CONSIDERING THE DEALERSHIP WAS OVER $2000 MORE FOR JUST THE TRANSMISSION WORK, I COULDN'T RISK HAVING THE DEALERSHIP DO THE REPAIR TO LATER FIND OUT THAT HONDA WOULD REJECT A "GOODWILL" CLAIM. *TR

COST TO REPAIR THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND VENT TUBE WAS $860.31. TOLD BY REPAIRMAN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY'S WHEN THEY HIT AROUND THE 110,000 MILE MARK. AND THEY REPLACE THESE ALL THE TIME. SEEMS TO ME IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THEN THERE MUST BE A FLAW IN THE ENGINEERING AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM.
