In have traffic on hwy van quit pulling causing a major traffic problem upon checking Honda failed to mount a proper cooling system for the Trans even though they acknowledge doing so refuse to do anything about it apparently there's a lot of these on road luckily someone wasn't killed that day
My transmission will not shift into third fourth or fifth and I see that there is a recall on the transmission for the 2004 Honda Odysseys and I was wondering how I go about getting this repaired that’s what mines doing it won’t shift I have to manually shift it from 1st to 2nd as far as It can go.
until today, 4/3/2022, no issues with 2004 Honda Odyssey transmission. today after driving 5 minutes from home the engine roared and forward drive was lost. the car was balky getting it home and would not climb a moderate hill. after a 30 minute rest the car would move forward and was able to reach home shifting from D1 to D2 made no difference shifting into Low made no difference trans fluid is at normal level but its dark, not burnt, just dark 2nd hand car purchased 5 years ago with 80,000 miles trans serviced at 125,000 miles [XXX], (220,000 miles). My 2004 has codes relating to transmission problems, along with ongoing codes for emission problems. I have taken it in and it dose need a new transmission. It also needs emission work . I have been told that this rare with this make and model. Also the input for the gas is not working well.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURED WHEN DRIVING IN RT 5 FREEWAY PAST GLENDALE AND 134 JUNCTION, CAR WAS RUNNING IN ABOUT 60 MILES SPEED AND CAME ABRUPT STOP (LOSS OF DRIVE/PULL IN A VERY DANGEROUS WAY). MANAGED TO PUSH IT TO BREAKDOWN LANE. THEN UPON TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND AFTER A WHILE I COULD DRIVE A BIT TO PARK IN INTERNAL ROAD. I THEN TOWED THE CAR. LATER, I DROVE IN INTERNAL ROAD. SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. WHEN PLACED IN AUTOMATIC DRIVE (D) VEHICLE RUNS FOR FEW MILES AND SUDDENLY FAILS TO RUN AND STOPS. CHANGING GEAR DOESN'T HELP. WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND ON BACK AGAIN, IT WORKS AGAIN FOR A MILE OR TWO AND SHOWS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS, IT DOESN'T MOVE IN ANY GEARS. RESEARCHING IN INTERNET, HONDA 2004 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRING AT 117,000 MILES WAS REPORTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET. AS IF IT WAS PROGRAMMED BY HONDA, THIS MINI VAN TOO FAILED AT 117K MILES. SOME OWNERS HAVE CLAIMED (INCLUDING YOUTUBE VIDEOS) THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE REPAIR AT NO COST. SOME ALSO CLAIM THAT HONDA HAS SECRET WARRANTY TO COVER THIS PROBLEM AND HAD AVAILED THE REPAIR FREE OF COST .THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM TO HONDA. BRAMAN HONDA IN MIAMI, FLORIDA DID NOT INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION AS REQUIRED AND LIED ON THEIR WORK ORDER THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOOK 7 HOURS WITH MY VAN. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED. MY TRANSMISSION WAS IN WORKING CONDITION WHEN IT TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LAST YEAR. I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THE ISSUES THAT THE RECALL WARNS THAT MAY HAPPEN DUE TO THE ONGOING GEAR ISSUES. LAST WEEK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY VAN'S TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP AND I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME SAFELY. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT HELP ME WITH ANY COST OF A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. IT WAS THURSDAY, EARLY EVENING, AND I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD, APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, WHEN THE 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN'S POWER CUT OUT. THE ENGINE WENT DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT JUST SUDDENLY CUT OFF FOR NO REASON. I WAS ABLE WITH DIFFICULTY TO STEER IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE IGNITION "OFF" AND CALLED MY HUSBAND THINKING I MIGHT NEED AAA TO COME TOW THE CAR. AFTER THE VAN SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START AGAIN, BUT IT SOUNDED TERRIBLE AND THE ENGINE'S ENGAGEMENT FELT WEAK. I WAS A FEW MILES FROM AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND DECIDED TO SLOWLY DRIVE IT THERE AND LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT. I WAS TOLD THE NEXT DAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON MY VAN OF WHICH I WAS UNAWARE. I LOOKED UP THE RECALLS ON THE NHTSA SITE THAT HONDA AND ISSUED AND NOTICED THAT MY VAN'S VIN NUMBER WAS IN THE RANGE THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I CALLED LOCAL HONDA DEALERS ABOUT THIS AS WELL AS THE HONDA CORPORATE NUMBER. EACH SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH MY VAN'S VIN WAS IN THE BATCH THAT WAS RECALLED AND EVEN THOUGH THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED WAS THE REASON FOR THE RECALL, THEY DID NOT FEEL OBLIGED TO ASSIST WITH THE VAN'S REPAIR. SUDDENLY IT CAME BACK ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION AND THEY NOW DIAGNOSED IT WITH THE P0740 CODE TCC LOCKUP SOLENOID. CALLED SEVERAL TRANSMISSION SHOPS THAT TOLD ME THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $3500 AND UP. THIS IS VERY DISCERNING THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T LAST LONGER AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND HONDA REFUSES TO ISSUE THE RECALL ON ALL 2004 TRANSMISSIONS. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLETINS OUT THERE REFERRING TO THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST STATING THE VEHICLE IS WAY OUT OF WARRANTY TO ASSIST FINANCIALLY. I HAVE HAD ALL THE SERVICE DONE AT THE DEALER UNTIL THERE WAS AN ISSUE LAST YEAR WITH THE HEATING/AIR CONDITIONER THAT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY FIX AFTER 6 VISITS AND NUMEROUS COOLANT FLUSHES. DESPITE BEING OUTSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION RECALL, HONDA AGREED TO PAY FOR 1/2 OF THE REPAIR COST AFTER MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS TO CORPORATE. THE NEW TRANSMISSION CAME WITH A 3 YR/36,000 WARRANTY. ABOUT 12,000 MILES LATER, THE "D" LIGHT AGAIN BEGAN FLASHING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE SECOND TRANSMISSION WITH A THIRD. I FIND IT INTERESTING THAT THE MECHANIC NOTED THE PROBLEM IN SECOND GEAR, THE SAME GEAR AFFECTED BY THE RECALL THAT I WAS NOT A PART OF. HAD NOTICED RECENTLY THAT WHEN SWITCHING GEARS THE VAN "JUMPED" AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SEEMED TO VIBRATE/SHAKE. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MUCH INVESTIGATION, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS BEING WORKED ON IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT ALL OF THE MOUNTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED COMPLETELY SO THIS WAS A COMPLETE SHOCK -- AT LEAST UNTIL I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH, SAW THE RECALL NOTICE OF OVER 1-MILLION HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS (HOWEVER MY VIN # DIDN'T COME UP!) AND SAW JUST HOW MANY TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS THERE WERE FROM OTHER OWNERS ALSO NOT PART OF THE RECALL. BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, I CHOSE MY RECOMMENDED LOCAL AAMCO SHOP TO DO THE REPAIRS. CALLED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO "GOODWILL" CLAIM BECAUSE (A) THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DO THE REPAIR AND (B) THE TRANSMISSION IS ONLY WARRANTIED BY HONDA FOR 36/36,000 (NO WONDER!!). HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT HONDA RARELY PROVIDES "GOODWILL" CLAIMS AND IF THEY DO, I'D BE LUCKY TO RECEIVE $400, SO CONSIDERING THE DEALERSHIP WAS OVER $2000 MORE FOR JUST THE TRANSMISSION WORK, I COULDN'T RISK HAVING THE DEALERSHIP DO THE REPAIR TO LATER FIND OUT THAT HONDA WOULD REJECT A "GOODWILL" CLAIM. *TR

WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL AND PROBLEMS WITH PRIOR MODEL YEARS. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 100,000 MILES AND MY TRANSMISSION DIED AT 112,560. I BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WHEN I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE MY VAN KEPT ROLLING BACKWARD. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE UNTIL IT DIED WHILE DRIVING IT WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VAN IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TOWN. IT MANAGED TO SHIFT TO 2ND GEAR AND DRIVE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AT AROUND 45 MPH (I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SINCE I WAS IN TOWN AND THE SPEED LIMIT WHERE IT FAILED WAS 40MPH. THE SHOP CALLED HONDA, KNOWING THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 2004 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS, BUT HONDA CLAIMED THAT IT DID THE WORK FOR THE RECALL AND HAD NO FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY. I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS. TO KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A TRANSMISSION, "FIX" IT WITH A RECALL, AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT ON A VEHICLE WITH UNDER 100,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO FOR ME EVENTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THE ONLY RECALL THEY ACKNOWLEDGE WAS THE FUEL PUMP FOR MY VAN. THE OUTCOME OF THE EVENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS AND I FEEL HONDA IS JUST TURNING A BLIND EYE TO THIS. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP. IN A MATTER OF A DAY THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AS I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE TACHOMETER SPIKED AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. IT WAS TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VAN HAS 85,000 MILES. WHEN I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORP ABOUT RECALL NHTSA 04V176000 THEY SAID I WAS NOT COVERED. [XXX] WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SO I HAD TO GO TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO HAVE THEM EVALUATE IT AND THEN THEY COULD POSSIBLY NEGOTIATE SOME TYPE OF ASSISTANCE FROM HONDA MOTOR CORP. I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP HE STATED SINCE WE WERE NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE THAT HONDA MOTOR CORP WOULD NOT HELP. HE ESTIMATED THAT THE COST TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE AT LEAST $3,200. I TOOK THE VAN TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. IT COST ME $2300 TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND AN EXTERNAL COOLER PUT ON. FURTHERMORE THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT IS ALLOWING THE TRANSMISSIONS TO OVERHEAT. ONCE THEY OVERHEAT THEY SEND OFF FLAKES THAT GET CAUGHT IN THE FILTER SCREENS IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT CAUSES MORE OVERHEATING AND EVENTUALLY FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. *TR

AFTER TAKING GAS, I WANTED TO HEAD BACK TO THE HIGHWAY BUT UNABLE TO CONTINUE THAT MUCH FURTHER. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND FINALLY HAD TO CALL AAA TOWING TO TOW THE CAR. ANYWAY, IT IS WITH HAGERSTOWN HONDA AND THE DIAGNOSIS IS TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND I NEED TO SHELL OUT 3500K FROM MY POCKET. TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR A 2004 ODYSSEY AT 122K MILES IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND AMERICAN HONDA REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME OUT. I HAD A LONG WAIT AT A PHARMACY DRIVE UP WINDOW SO WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, I PUT THE SHIFT IN PARK AND SET THE FOOT BRAKE. ON AN ATTEMPT TO MOVE FORWARD I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, RELEASED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK BUT IT WAS LOCKED IN THE PARK POSITION AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I QUICKLY LOOKED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON PAGE 185-6 WHICH DESCRIBED REMOVAL OF A TRAP ACCESS DOOR AND INSERTING THE IGNITION KEY TO UNLOCK THE PARK CONDITION. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A PEN KNIFE I WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE CONDITION. THE TRAP DOOR WAS ALMOST INDISCERNIBLE DESIGNED INTO THE TOP OF THE DASH ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND DIFFICULT TO EVEN GET THE SHARP BLADE OF A PEN KNIFE IN THE CRACK TO PRY OPEN. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL CHECKED MY BRAKE LIGHTS TO SEE IF THEY WERE WORKING AND THEY WERE OK. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RELATIONSHIP TO THE PARK CONDITION. I ASK WHAT A WOMAN IS SUPPOSED TO DO IF THAT WERE TO HAPPEN AND THEY HAD NO SUGGESTION. WHY CAN'T THE CONTROLS BE DESIGNED SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO UNLOCK THE LOCKED CONDITION. I CAN SEE THIS CONDITION AS A DISASTER ON A JAMMED FREEWAY. PUTTING A REMEDY IN THE DRIVERS MANUAL IS NOT THE ANSWER TO THIS RATHER PERPLEXING SITUATION, ESPECIALLY FOR NON MECHANICAL DRIVERS WITH POOR PERCEPTION SKILLS AND IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. *JB

WHEN SHIFTING UP FROM A LOWER GEAR (FROM 1ST TO 2ND) MOST NOTABLY AT LOW SPEEDS, AROUND 20 TO 25 MPH, THE ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT IS REVVING HIGHER THAN NORMAL BEFORE SHIFTING INTO THE NEXT GEAR. WHEN IT DOES SHIFT, IT SHIFTS HARD AND MAKES A CLANKING NOISE. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS STICKING, PREVENTING IT FROM CHANGING GEARS IN A NORMAL FASHION. I HAVE NOT NOTICED IT OCCURRING AT ANY SPECIFIC TIME, IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM INTERVALS WHEN DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VAN IN FOR INSPECTION AND THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT RECREATE THIS PROBLEM. TOOK VAN ON JULY 08, CONTACTED HONDA, THE PROBLEM STILL HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED. THIS IS ONE OF SIX PROBLEMS I HAD TO TAKE THE VAN IN FOR. AFTER HAVING THE VAN FOR TWO WEEKS, ONLY TWO NON-MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WERE PARTIALLY RESOLVED AND ONE NON-MECHANICAL PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED COMPLETELY.*AK

2004 HONDA ODYSSEY MANUFACTURING DEFECT.*MR THE VEHICLE WAS ON AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO CHILDREN INSIDE IT. THE CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE TO RETRIEVED SOMETHING. WHEN SHE RETURNED AND ATTEMPTED TO GET INTO HER CAR IT BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE CROSSED THE ROAD BEFORE IT CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP ON THE CURD. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND EXPLAINED THAT THE GEARS MAY HAVE SOMEHOW BECOME STUCK BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE AND THEN POPPED INTO REVERSE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER REQUESTING A NEW VEHICLE AND AN INVESTIGATION. *NM

2004 HONDA ODYSSEY LURCHED BACKWARDS WHILE IN IDLE THEN ACCELERATED OUT OF THE GARAGE.*MR THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD THE CONSUMER THEIR BEST GUESS WAS THAT THE GEAR WAS STUCK BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE AND EVENTUALLY POPPED INTO REVERSE. *JB
VAN SHAKES HORRIBLY AFTER REACHING 60 MPH AND IS REALLY BAD FROM AROUND 70 MPH. TAKEN IT IN AT LEAST 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME THING AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. THEY CHANGED OUT TIRES AND BALANCED BUT TO NO AVAIL.
