The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

PULLED THE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK AND SMELLED THE FLUID WHICH EMITTED A VERY PUNGENT SMELL. THE FLUID WAS NOT BLACK. THE FLUID HAD BEEN CHANGED 15- 20,000 MI EARLIER. WHEN TALKING TO MECHANIC HE TOLD ME ALMOST EXACTLY HOW MANY M8LES HE THOUGHT THE CAR HAD BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN SO MANY HONDA'S WITH EXACTLY THIS SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT HONDA DID NOT DESIGN THIS TRANSMISSION PROPERLY TO LAST WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE AND FLUID CHANGES.

ONCE WITH MY 97 YR OLD BROTHER IN LAW AND 79 YR OLD SISTER.THEY WANT $4000 TO FIX THIS. THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CABLE BROKE ALSO.I HAD THE RUN FLAT PAX TIRES ON IT WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED, I WAS NOT TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE AT LEAST 100 TO 200 MILES TO GET THEM CHANGED OUT AS THEY NEED A SPECIAL MACHINE TO FIX THEM. ALSO SAID ALL ODYSSEYS TRANSMISSIONS FAIL.LIKE ITS A ONGOING PROBLEM. NUMBER 2. MY PASSENGERFRONT DOOR GETS STUCK AND YOU CANT OPEN OT EVEN THOUGH ITS UNLOCKED. 3..THE MIDDLE SEAT SECOND ROW THE SMALL SEAT THAT UNLATCHES, UNLATCHES WHILE DRIVING.

I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT FIRST AND THEN SOON AFTER STARTED HAVING A SHUTTERING PROBLEM AROUND 45 MPH. I HAD A SATURN VUE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD THE SAME MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION AS MY HONDA. CHEVROLET DID A RECALL ON IT I BROUGHT IT IN THE REPROGRAMMED AND RECALIBRATED IT NO PROBLEMS AFTER THAT. SO WHEN MY HONDA STARTED I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THEY SAID NOT ON MY VIN. SO I ASKED HOW MUCH TO REPROGRAM AND RECALIBRATE AND THE TOLD ME THAT IF IT DOES NOT HAVE A NEW UPDATE THEN THEY COULD NOT DO IT (WHICH I KNOW IS BULL SINCE WE OWN A MECHANIC SHOP AND DEAL WITH THINGS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME). I DO NOT HAVE THE $3000 PLUS TO FIX THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND FEEL IF OTHER VEHICLE WITH SAME TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN RECALLED THEN THIS ONE SHOULD BE TOO!!!

I HAVE OWNED 7 HONDAS SINCE 1983, AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE VAN IS AT A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP REBUILDING THE TRANSMISSION FOR $1500, HONDA WANTED $5300. THE VAN HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS AND I'M VERY SURPRISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD GO AT 141,000 MILES, BUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ODYSSEY LINEUP OVER THE YEARS. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT THIS WILL THEN BE THE THIRD TRANSMISSION IN A VAN THAT IS LESS THAN 8 YEARS OLD. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN JULY 2011 AT 80,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED THEN WITH PROMISES FROM HONDA THAT I WAS GOOD FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS. SO WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED EXACTLY 2 YEARS TO THE TIME THAT THE SECOND TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO HONDA AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A THIRD TRANSMISSION. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT I ALWAYS SERVICED MY VAN WITH THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS NEVER BEEN SERVICED WITH THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I AM STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS ON MY VAN AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION? HAD SHAKE WHILE DRIVING AND WAS SERVICED, FOUND TO HAVE PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AND PROBLEM RESOLVED. CAR WAS DRIVEN PART WAY ACROSS COUNTRY, 1200 MILES, IN THE NEXT 10 DAYS, ALL HIGHWAY MILES. 20 MINUTES AFTER STOPPING FOR LUNCH, WHILE CRUISING ON HIGHWAY @ 70 MPH, CAR HAD INTERMITTENT CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON @ THIS TIME AND TEMP READING WAS NORMAL. MY HUSBAND TOOK CAR OFF CRUISE CONTROL, NOISE STOPPED, HE ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKED A COUPLE TIMES, HE SLOWED, STARTED SAFELY MOVING TO SHOULDER, CLICKING STARTED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOLID, TEMP GAUGE SPIKED TO RED, CARON SHOULDER, NO POWER. FROM FIRST CLICKING NOISE TO ENGINE FAILURE AND FIRST WARNING LIGHT WAS APPROX 1 MINUTE. DEALER FOUND CAR TO HAVE CRACKED ENGINE, MELTED RADIATOR, BLOWN HEAD GASKET, NO COOLANT OR OIL IN ENGINE. NO ORIGINAL SOURCE FOR BREAKDOWN COULD BE FOUND EVEN AFTER COMPLETE ENGINE TEARDOWN. HEAD GASKET WAS NOT CAUSE OF BREAKDOWN. NO OIL LEAK, HAD OIL CHANGE @ DEALER PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE OF VEHICLE, NOT YET DUE FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, OIL LIFE INDICATOR GAVE 50% OIL LIFE 20 MILES PRIOR TO BREAKDOWN. WHILE CRUISING (NOT ACCELERATING, NOT CLIMBING) AT ABOUT 70 MPH ON I-5 SOUTH IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE DRIVER SAW THE TACHOMETER SUDDENLY SHOOT UP ABOVE THE RED LINE (>5000 RPM). THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV WITH ACCOMPANYING VERY LOUD ENGINE NOISE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT EVEN AS THE DRIVER EASED OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THE DRIVER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND BACK OF THE CAR WAS SOAKED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CAR WAS SURROUNDED BY THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL. I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAND NEW WITH WARRANTY AND AT 20,000 MILES STARTED COMPLAINING OF A WHINING OR HUMMING NOISE AFTER TRAVELING DISTANCES OVER 30 MINUTES LONG. THE WEATHER DID NOT SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I COMPLAINED 5 SEPARATE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, EACH TIME BEING TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE. AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED AND AFTER MUCH TALK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA, THEY REPLACED IT COVERING 75% OF THE COST. THAT WAS IN OCTOBER 2009. ON MARCH 15, THE NOISE RETURNED AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ASSUMING IT WAS MY POWER STEERING PUMP. IT WAS MY POWER STEERING RACK WHICH AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS SEEMS TO BE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS ALL ALONG. I NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING RACK AT A COST OF $1500. I HAVE TRIED TO GET HELP FROM HONDA, BUT THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE ONLINE AND HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR ALL MODELS 2005-2007 AND SOME 2008 MODELS FOR POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE AND A RECALL OF THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OR MORE HONDA OWNERS ARE GOING TO RUN INTO THE ISSUE I HAVE. IF I DON'T REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK, FLUID COULD POUR OUT AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE ME TO LOSE STEERING AT ANY POINT. SO THAT IS WHY I AM HAVING IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY. UNFORTUNATELY, HONDA REFUSES TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A NEW ONE, BUT WILL USE A MISH-MASH OF PARTS FROM 2005 & 2006 AND CLAIM IT AS REFURBISHED. THEY WILL NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PARTS DID NOT COME FROM VEHICLES DAMAGED IN HURRICANES. OUR NEW VEHICLE WILL NOW BE A SUBSTANDARD VEHICLE.
