The car is not shifting properly and lags or hesitates when changing gears. This issue causes the car to jerk, particularly when transitioning from lower gears to higher ones. Additionally, there has recently been a noise coming from the driver's side wheel, although the brake pads are in good condition.

Had a Honda fixed for a well known piston ring problem that did not have a recall, but should have at the time repaired. In July, Honda sent us an extended warranty for the very problem we had repaired. I sent in all documentation and claim was denied twice. My dealer has sent me a voice mail confirming the repair is the exact one mentioned in the warranty extension. American Honda is claiming certain error codes must be mentioned in the work order in order to pay the claim. This is at best a bad faith move on Honda's part.

Sep 25, 2025

The incident happened in December 2022; the vehicle is available for inspection still. Without warning, the engine light started blinking, and engine ran very rough, so I ended up pulled over and stuck until we could tow to the local Honda dealership. Then was without a car for several days. The dealership found error code P0302 (misfire on cylinder 2), due to oil gumming up on the spark plugs, caused by the eco system design flaw in the 2014 Odyssey. The dealer quoted $5640 to replace the 1-3 piston rings. I could not afford this, so they replaced all 6 plugs and cleared the codes for a short term fix ($465). Which brings us to now, when Honda has offered a warranty extension and to reimburse for previous repairs related to this problem. I submitted my paperwork for the $465 reimbursement a month ago and have had multiple phone calls with Honda, and several "escalations" to supposed supervisors, each of whom seem to have not even looked at the incident details. Honda has denied the claim. The paperwork I submitted to them is from the dealer repair in Dec. 2022 and states "misfire on cylinder 2, need piston ring repair on cylinders 1-3, P0302 was the dtc error code, replaced all 6 plugs and cleared codes for short term fix, for long term fix, vehicle needs the 1-3 piston rings replaced." The Honda reps claim the dealer service did not use the right wording; it should have the words "fouled by oil" in the service report (but they don't provide appropriate wording for service departments to use). The last voicemail I received from them said there was no error code provided (which there clearly was). Honda is not interested in fulfilling the reimbursement their latest campaign promises. Beyond that, the long term fix is not covered on the warranty extension, because the vehicle is not currently broken. So I am left with a van that I can't drive on the highway or out of town, since it can happen again without warning. This is a safety risk for my family. Shame!!

A poorly designed engine leads to misfires even after proper maintenance, increasing the chances of a crash. On Monday, May 12th, 2025, the MIL indicator came on and began flashing while I was driving. The engine began to misfire so violently that the vehicle was nearly undriveable; acceleration was dangerously poor. After I got home, I used a OBD-II code scanner and pulled a "P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire" DTC. Then, I did some research, and found that a poorly designed engine causes oil to burn inside the cylinders and foul the spark plugs. I inspected the spark plugs and found multiple fouled plugs, specifically on the cylinders on which Honda's Variable Cylinder Management activates on, cylinders 1-4. I replaced all six spark plugs, and the issue went away, as expected. Photos of the fouled plugs are attached. Honda is aware of this problem, as it recently extended the warranty of the engine in this vehicle. I received a letter on July 31, 2025, titled, "Warranty Extension: 2013-15 Pilot & 2013-17 Odyssey MIL Comes on with DTCs P0301 thru P0304." (See uploaded file.) Spark plug inspection and replacement is part of the repair, in addition to a partial engine rebuild and software update. However, the warranty extension only applies *after* the misfiring has started, which is no help to the safety of this vehicle, as the issue can start at any moment while driving. Furthermore, the warranty extension only adds an extra six months to many of the affected vehicles. Therefore, any vehicle this extension applies to is an unsafe vehicle unless the safety issue already occurred and was repaired. If the issue presents itself after this time period, the owner is left with an unremedied vehicle and with an expensive repair bill.

Piston failure - vehicle has always been properly maintained by Honda dealer and we have adhered to their suggestions for maintenance/repair. It has been driven in a safe and legal manner. There is no reason why this should have happened under the conditions without a defect. Vehicles currently at Regal Honda, Lakeland FL incurring $6000 worth of repairs.

I’m experiencing several issues with my 2014 Honda Odyssey: -The radiator fan often stays on after the car is turned off. -I have to press the shut down button 3 times before the car completely shuts off, which is concerning. -After driving for only 20 minutes , the engine temperature spikes to the max which is limiting my ability to get places safely. -The sliding doors only work when the car is off and sometimes even then it won’t open after trying 3/5 times. These issues are ongoing never stops, The overheating and fan behavior feel unsafe so we just use the car for very short drives(5mins max). I’m worried about potential engine damage or failure while driving. The sliding doors also pose a safety concern, especially with kids.

This started approximately one year plus ago. The problem is exhibited mostly when the vehicle is pulling away after a stop light. From a full stop n pushing the accelerator, the vehicle pulls forward a little n then totally hesitates n stops in the middle of the intersection leaving us in a position to be hit from behind. . Consequently, the vehicle suddenly jerks n moves forward rapidly - again putting us and other drivers at risk. Also, in driving in stop n go traffic, the vehicle suddenly jerks ahead n we are at risk of hitting car in front of us or getting hit from behind. We have had the van to a Honda dealer at three different times, but they are unable to get the van to replicate that motion. There were no warning lights or messages. We have noticed recalls for other vans even up to the 2013 but NOT the 2014 Honda Odyssey!! We thought by now the 2014 would have been included in the recall, but so far no luck! The vehicle has not been seen by the police or an insurance rep but is available for inspection any time. It would seem that the problem is fuel injection or some sensor. Please help before we are injured or someone else gets hurt.

I just went to a professional auto mechanics and they have confirmed that my 2014 Honda Odessey engine has the same symtoms and noise of a connecting rod bearings failure. The engine is making a lot of engine knocking noise. and recently, the connecting rod has failed. The safety issue is that with a stall engine on freeway, it can cause serious accident. I have the car here. I wonder if NHTSA would be interested to investigate this vehicle as it would help the public to be aware that the current Honda engine recall extends to the 2014 Honda Odessey model as well.

>At about 95,000 miles the vehicle engine is making a loud rattling noise until it warms up to operating temperature. > At about 105,000 miles the vans battery starting dying frequently. The battery was replaced and 8 months later it died again. Replaced the battery again and one night the battery light came on along with several of the display warnings flashing and the car made it one mile home before dying and not turning on again. Had a mobile mechanic take a look and they think oil leaking has damaged the alternator. Problem has not been fixed and the vehicle is inoperable.

Repair required piston rings replacements. The vehicle was only 10 years old, 61,000 miles. This is coincidental with the ECO mode shutting down 3 cylinders. As you know, the 2014 model does not have (unlike current models) a special button for the ECO mode, as such, the driver has no control over the feature. While this is a hypothesis, this might have damaged the engine from overuse of remaining cylinders or malfunction of the ones that did not engage in the ECO mode. Research online indicated that other customers reported similar issues. I do not feel it's fair for a vehicle with 61K (sixty one thousand) mileage and 9.5 years old to break down considering the use and the care I have provided for the vehicle throughout its life. I am the original owner and serviced all needed maintenance at Honda or Acura dealerships (can be evident by records on CarFax), and used only Shell or Costco gasoline, never a cheap non-branded gas. The premium that Honda commands for its brand and its recognition failed with this major over $5,000 repair. Thank you!

Engine surge when appying brake. This has occurred approximately 6 times in 2024 and happens when applying brakes when coming to a stop. Please note previous reports regarding engine surge when braking.

Back three (3) cylinders, namely #3 cylinder, constantly fouls out. Vehicle has less than 100k miles on it and has been regularly serviced.

I have now had a flashing check engine twice on my van. The first time it happened next to a well known national mechanic chain while in a car wash. 4 other lights came on all the sudden along with a flashing check engine light. You could feel the engine rumbling. I took it straight to the mechanic next to us and they told me I had a misfire and needed spark plugs and a ignition coil. They did that work and it did temporarily fix the problem. 6 months later the same thing happens. So I took it to a Honda dealer this time. They informed me this is actually a much larger known issue with this engine. The ring on the cylinder shifts/brakes allowing oil to come up and it ruins the spark plug, causing a misfire. They have to do a complete engine rebuild. The mechanic advised Honda knows about this issue and they see it all the time. They also warned me it is dangerous to drive the vehicle when this occurs as the engine could fail and there is a fire risk from the unburned fuel in the exhaust.

Sep 19, 2023

VCM causing overflow of oil in cylinders 3 and 6 ruining internal components. Vehicle would not accelerate on expressway had to idle to gas station. Lawsuit and extended warranty place on 07-13 odysseys for same issue .

Aug 28, 2023

My vehicle had check engine line was blinking and I took to the Honda. They immediately diagnosed the code as Cylinder 3 Misfire. Upon checking they identified the root cause is Piston ring needs to replace as oil was leaking in the cylinder. I was told that this can cause severe dame to vehicle and passenger as time engine can stop and cause the fire also. I was told that this issue is well known to Honda. When I reached out to Honda they said that your vehicle is not part of the recall and we cannot reimburse the repair expense. I had maintained my car up to date. There was no maintenances service to replace the piston ring at certain mileage. I am single owner. I am baffled on how this was not the manufacturer issue? How was the scope of the investigation on which vehicle impacted determined? Why was my vin number excluded from recall as certainly it is impacted? This issue put me at the risk with safety. Additionally, why do I need to pay for this Manufactuing defects? Is vehicle manufacturer responsibility not applicable when Car is outside of the warranty due to mileage and years?

Its a defective torque converter

My engine needs to be re-ringed after 50000 miles after a repair of the same. Honda settled a class action suit of this issue and the repair was done by an authorized dealer. The pistons rings on certain cylinders my rotate and align which can lead to spark plug fowling. The code is P0301-P0304. This is caused by the VCM that is put on the vehicle to increase gas mileage. Thousands of Honda engines are affected by this problem. Honda needs to do more about this problem. The engines are failing and not lasting as they should.

Apr 5, 2023 Crash

My wife was driving our 2014 Odyssey. She went to visit a neighbor. As she pulled up in the driveway and applied the brakes the car acceleration engaged. She was unable to stop the car. I hit the neighbors garage door, totaling it and damaged both of their cars inside. She had complained previously about what she had described as a braking problem. The car was taken into Honda service to check out the brakes and they were inspected and the car road tested and nothing was found. Since the accident the body was has been repaired and the car was returned to Honda for a diagnostic check-up and nothing was found again. I have a customer service claim with Honda USA but have not heard back from their claims manager.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light and two other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact initially had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where an oil leak was discovered behind the spark plugs. After the initial failure, the contact had the spark plugs replaced four separate times. The vehicle was also taken to a dealer where it was determined that the cause of the failure was the piston rings, and the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 93,315.

MORNING WHEN WE START OUT DAY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND CAR BEGIN MISFIRING. THE CAR DOESNT RAN FINE AFTER THAT.. I TOOK CAR TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND SAID THE O-RINGS NEED REPLACED. THEY TRIED TO GET HONDA TO PAY FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S THE SAME ISSUE THAT LED TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR 2011-2013 HONDA ODYSSEYS. IN THAT CASE THE "PISTON RINGS IN CERTAIN CYLINDERS MAY ROTATE AND ALIGN, LEADING TO ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AND SPARK PLUG FOULING." HONDA OF AMERICA SAID THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO FIX MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH ITS THE SAME ISSUE.

One day I went to turn my car on and the check engine light came on with another light. Not sure what the other light was. My car was shaking to the point where I knew I shouldn't drive it. I called the dealership to see if it was drivable. They said it was not since the check engine light was flashing. I had it towed into the dealership. After an inspection they said it was an engine misfire and that cylinders 1-3 needed new piston rings. The spark plug was oil fouled as well. I had very low mileage on the vehicle. I had only 68,400 miles on the car. The repair was a little over $3200 to fix.

Sep 20, 2022

my engine sparkplugs keep getting oil fouled causing rapid deceleration of van and check engine light to turn on damaging plugs, this only happens in the cylinder head closet to firewall, this engine defect may be due to Honda VCM system. Honda effuses to acknowledge my complaint. the other problem is the transmission that shacks the van and slams as I come to a stop I started to complain at 26,000 miles but they would not fix it unless it failed completely at 95,000 when it got worse Honda said it was out of warranty.

I purchased new Honda Odyssey Van in Oct. 2013 (Model 2014) from Auto Nation Honda, Lewisville, TX. I have done services ever since. On 12/14/2021; I was driving on the highway. The check engine light came on along with other lights. The car was vibrating. I pulled the van on the side of 635 Hwy turned the van off, back on, and it persisted. Eventually van was taken to a workshop. I was told nearly a $6,000 repair bill due to piston rings and oil getting into the spark plugs. The van only has 67,980 miles on it. Upon further review, it appears that this is a known Honda issue with this engine (V6, automatic). There are service bulletins covering the 2011-13 model years. I am reading online that now newer model years are experiencing the same issue. It also reads like this issue will come back... I guess starting on the 2014 model years, Honda changed the piston rings. I don't believe this helped as I am seeing the same issue on my van. I contacted Auto Nation Honda dealer, and I was told I must pay out of my pocket. I think Honda has not fixed this issue for model 2014 Odyssey, manufactured in 09/2013.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the instrument panel warning lights started flashing and the vehicle started to lose motive power before coasting to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that oil from the rocker arm had leaked onto the alternator causing the alternator to fail. The contact was informed that the alternator and rocker arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that a TSB (20-023) was issued for the failure but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 113,000.

I purchased this car used in 2018 from CarMax. I have done Honda dealer services ever since. Most recently in December 2021. On 4/6/22; I want to back out of my garage. The check engine light came on along with other lights. The car was vibrating. We turned the car off, back on, and it persisted. We eventually had it towed to a dealer. Yesterday, we were hit with nearly a $6,000 repair bill due to piston rings and oil getting into the spark plugs. The car only (approx) has 78,XXX miles on it. I don't believe this helped as I am seeing the same issue on my car. People have done the repair and it comes back. I contacted Honda corporate and I am waiting for a call back on a 'good will' case. I believe Honda is still using this engine.

I’m writing about a concerning experience I had with our 2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L vehicle. We’ve had this vehicle for about 5 years and haven’t had any issues until recently. On Monday, June 14th approximately at 5:30pm PDT we were starting to accelerate on the freeway onramp when our Honda vehicle stayed in a low gear. I was unable to accelerate and eventually the dashboard lights started to flash and the HondaLink system restarted while this was occurring. The instrument panel then displayed the words “Failure” and I proceed to the emergency shoulder of the freeway. Prior to this incident there were no indicators that there was an issue with the vehicle. After turning off the vehicle, I was no longer able to get the vehicle started and it had to be towed to our long-time auto repair shop. After they ran a diagnostic test and checked the vehicle, they said everything passed except for the battery which was still good prior to the incident. For safety, the battery was replaced and we drove the vehicle home on Tuesday, June 15th. The next day, June 16th, while my wife was running an errand and after returning to the car it turned over very “sluggishly”, the HondaLink system restarted again, and then it began losing electrical power as well. My wife didn’t want to take any chances with having the vehicle shut down again while driving and ended up having it towed again to our mechanic. The auto shop ran another diagnostic and thoroughly checked the vehicle and couldn’t find anything wrong right away. They had to do some additional troubleshooting and found that the alternator was defective even though the Honda diagnostics didn’t report any issues with the alternator. The alternator was replaced and we haven’t experienced any additional issues to date. This incident is extremally concerning as the outcome could have been worse or tragic if this would have occurred while driving at a higher rate of speed on the road or freeway. I WAS PULLING INTO A DRIVE THROUGH ON DECEMBER 6, 2020. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE (I DRIVE WITH ONE FOOT - MY RIGHT FOOT) WITH MY RIGHT FOOT, THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE VAN MOVED ABOUT 5 FEET FORWARD AS I INCREASED THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. I THEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WENT TO RED LINE. I PUSHED THE POWER BUTTON. NO ONE WAS INJURED, AND THE VEHICLE DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING AS THE DRIVETHROUGH AHEAD OF ME WAS EMPTY. THE DAY BEFORE, THE LDW AND FCW FAIL LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VAN TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR A CHECKOUT / DIAGNOSTICS OF WHAT HAPPENED. HONDA HAS OPENED A CASE ON THIS FOR US: CASE IS 11754879. NO PICTURES OR VIDEO AVAILABLE, UNFORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH I AM CHECKING WITH FADI'S AT 12360 WESTHEIMER ROAD 77077.

I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON AN INTERSTATE. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE CHANGE IN VEHICLE PERFORMANCE AND THERE WERE NO ODORS PRESENT SO I CONTINUED DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES TOWARDS THE NEXT EXIT. ABOUT .5MI AWAY FROM THE EXIT, THE ABS, FCW, LDW, AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON, THE AIR CONDITIONER AND CONSOLE TURNED OFF, AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED. THIS PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY LOST POWER. THE LOCAL DEALER DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS AN OIL LEAK IN THE SPOOL VALVE THAT THEN DESTROYED THE ALTERNATOR AND FRIED THE BATTERY. THE MANUFACTURER (HONDA) RECENTY ISSUED TSB 20-023 DETAILING THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR PROCEDURE, BUT IT WAS LIMITED TO THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK, NOT ANY OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS THAT WERE DAMAGED. MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE INCIDENT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE A FIRE COULD HAVE BROKEN OUT DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE LEAK ONTO THE OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS.

(2014 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L). ON FRI, 02-21-2020, 3:47PM, I WAS SLOWING TO STOP AT INTERSECTION. BEFORE COMING TO COMPLETE STOP, ENGINE BEGAN TO SHUDDER, BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY STALL/STOP, AND THE MIL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ENGINE CONTINUED TO SHUDDER WHILE IDLING AT COMPLETE STOP. I GENTLY APPLIED ACCELERATION TO 10-MPH. ENGINE CONTINUED TO SHUDDER AS I CONTINUED AND STOPPED AT ANOTHER TRAFFIC LIGHT. AGAIN I GENTLY APPLIED ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO SHUDDER UNTIL I FOUND A SAFE PLACE TO PARK AND SWITCHED IT OFF. THE ENGINE SHUDDERED AT A CONSISTENT LEVEL FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT 8-MINUTES. I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA SERVICE DEPT TO ASK ABOUT POSSIBLE CAUSES AND IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE SERVICE REP ASKED ME ABOUT A PREVIOUS REPAIR NOTED ON HIS COMPUTER FOR AN ISSUE THE VAN HAD REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT OF AN OIL SENSOR IN OCTOBER 2019, AND IF IT WAS RELATED. I TOLD HIM I DIDN'T KNOW. SINCE HE COULDN'T IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, HE ADVISED ME NOT TO START THE ENGINE AND DRIVE BECAUSE IT COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE MORE DAMAGE, AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THEN I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND MY VAN WAS TAKEN TO MY HONDA SERVICE DEPT. ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, A SERVICE REP CALLED ME WITH THE DIAGNOSIS CODE P0303, WHICH HE SAID INDICATES THAT A MISFIRE WAS DETECTED IN THE #3 CYLINDER. THE REP SAID THAT THIS ISSUE ALLOWED OIL TO PASS BY THE MULTIPLE OIL RINGS ON THE PISTON INTO THE CHAMBER AND FOULED THE SPARK PLUG. HE TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THE SERVICE REP QUOTED $4,420.00 TO REPAIR OBDII CODE P0303. I ASKED HIM IF THE MALFUNCTION COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. THE SERVICE REP SAID THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT A RESULT OF ANY DRIVER ACTION OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE. HE SAID THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I SHOULD CALL AMERICAN HONDA AUTOMOBILES (800-999-1009).

I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PERFORM THREE-POINT TURN TO PARK IN GARAGE. SLOWLY (<5MPH) APPROACHING END OF FIRST ARC, I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO STOP. IT WAS SNOWING AND SLIPPERY, AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT SKID OF VEHICLE. I PRESSED HARDER ON BRAKES TO STOP, WHICH RESULTED IN REVVING OF THE ENGINE AND CRASH OF VEHICLE INTO WALL/GARAGE SUPPORT. I LOOKED DOWN TO CONFIRM MY FOOT WAS ONLY CONTACTING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK TO COMPREHEND WHAT HAD JUST OCCURRED. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO COMPLETE 2ND ARC OF THREE-POINT TURN, AND COMPLETED PARKING IN THE GARAGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT FLASHED CONSTANTLY. IN ADDITION, THE RPMS DECREASED, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS A DRASTIC REDUCTION OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO SHAKING AND VIBRATING, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,774. MA 10/5 *CN

I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND DRIVING A STEADY 50 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUTDOWN. AFTER I REALIZED WHAT THE SITUATION WAS I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL, STEERED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE TO DO AND STOPPED. I JUST HAD THE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACED WHEN THIS EVENT HAPPENED 3.7 MILES FROM THE REPAIR SHOP. I SUSPECTED A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL CHANGE. AFTER STOPPING I CHECKED FOR OIL UNDER ENGINE (NONE) AND THEN CHECKED THE DIPSTICK (FULL). I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO THE SHOP WHERE THEIR PERSONNEL CHECKED UNDER THE ENGINE FOR AN OIL LEAK AND THEN CHECKED THE DIPSTICK AS I HAD DONE. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VAN TO HONDA. IT?S BEEN A WEEK AND HONDA SAID I NEED NEW HEADS FOR THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE TIMING ?JUMPED?. THE OIL CHANGE HAD NO EFFECT ON THIS FAILURE. SO FAR, NOBODY AT HONDA CAN TELL ME WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSED THE TIMING TO ?JUMP?. THE TOTAL REPAIR IS BEING DONE BY HONDA AND IS COVERED BY THE HONDA'S NEW CAR WARRANTY. I'VE NEVER HAD ANY KIND OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS VAN PRIOR TO THIS UNEXPECTED AND SUDDEN FAILURE. *TR

THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT I HAVE HAD WHERE THE ENGINE BEGAN RACING AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. AS I WAS SLOWING TO PARK THE CAR AT WORK WHEN I FELT THE CAR SURGE AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. I PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND FOUND THE CAR RACING AT 2000 RPM. I WAS ABLE TO FUMBLE FOR MY CELL PHONE AND GET A SHORT VIDEO OF THE RACING ENGINE. AS I WAS FILMING I MOVED MY FOOT SLIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE AND CAR CAME OUT OF THE RACING CONDITION AND SETTLED TO A NORMAL IDLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. THEY IMPLIED THAT THEY WANTED THEIR REGIONAL PERSON TO EVALUATE THE CAR BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED SINCE TAKING THE VEHICLE IN. *TR

AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP LIGHT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKE. AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS SURGING SO I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE WAS RACING AT FULL SPEED ERRATICALLY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. I TOOK THE CAR IN THE NEXT DAY TO THE DEALER. WHILE I WAS THERE ANOTHER CUSTOMER OVERHEARD ME TALKING TO THE DEALER AND HE STATED HIS MOTHER'S 2013 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WHERE THE ENGINE STARTED RACING WHILE STOPPING. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND PERFORMED ALL DTCS CHECKS. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT ON TWO OR THREE PREVIOUS OCCASIONS I FELT THE CAR SURGE WHILE BRAKING BUT IN THESE INSTANCES THE ENGINE DID NOT STAY RACING. THIS INCIDENT WAS VERY UPSETTING AS THE CAR COULD HAVE TAKEN OFF ON ITS OWN IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. *TR

BOUGHT VAN AND ONLY HAD IT A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE KEYLESS START, WOULD NOT START. ATTEMPTED FOR A WHOLE MINUTE, THEN FINALLY THE KEYLESS START WORKED. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT, BASICALLY THEY TOLD ME PERHAPS IT WAS USER ERROR, BUT I AM NOT AN IDIOT, I MADE SURE THE BRAKE WAS PRESSED, THE GEAR WAS IN PARK CORRECTLY, AND THE KEY WAS OUT AND CLOSE ENOUGH FOR THE CAR TO RECOGNIZE THE KEY WAS IN THE CAR, HOWEVER, THE CAR DOORS UNLOCKED FINE WITH THE KEY. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A "NO KEY" LIGHT ON, HOWEVER THE KEY WAS IN THE CAR, AND THEN A FEW WEEKS AFTER THAT THE DASH BOARD AND RADIO SCREENS WERE BLACK FOR APPROX. 2 HRS, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AGAIN ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH MY VAN... UNFORTUNATELY I BOUGHT THE VAN USED WITH ONLY 3000MILES, AND I THINK NOW I KNOW WHY THE ORIGINAL OWNER TRADED IT IN WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE.... IT IS A LEMON! *TR

I WENT TO DINNER WITH MY HUSBAND ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, AND WHEN WE RETURNED TO OUR VAN, THE DOORS UNLOCKED WE GOT INTO THE VAN AND THE KEYLESS START WOULD NOT WORK. WE TRIED FOR 3-5 MINUTES, NO LUCK, THIS HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AGO, WE AGAIN DID EVERYTHING TO ENSURE IT WAS NOT USER ERROR (IN WHICH THE DEALERSHIP BLAMED WHEN THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VAN THE PREVIOUS TIME). BRAKE WAS PRESSED, KEY WAS OUT, GEAR IN PARK.... I HAD TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE VAN A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE KEYLESS START FINALLY ALLOWED US TO START THE VAN... I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AGAIN, AND WAS INSISTENT THEY FIX THE KEYLESS START, BUT THEY WERE SOOO RUDE AND INAPPROPRIATE, THERE WAS NO "ERROR CODE" AND THEREFORE "HONDA WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM JUST TO REPLACE PARTS", AND THE HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS JUST AS RUDE!!!! I AM NO LONGER A FAN OF HONDA... THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST HONDA! *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN THE BAR HARBOR, ME AREA, OUR ODYSSEY WAS BUCKING VIOLENTLY AT LOWER SPEEDS/GEARS. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME IT WAS WHEN WE WERE SPEEDING UP FROM A STOP AT A LIGHT/SIGNAL. IT HAPPENED IN LOWER GEARS (1ST AND 2ND) ALL ON THE SAME DATE. I CALLED A DEALER IN THE LOCAL AREA AND WAS GOING TO TAKE IT IN THE NEXT DAY BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE WITH OUR DEALER IN VIRGINIA AND THEY STATED THAT THEY HADN'T HEARD OF ANY SUCH ISSUES. WELL, AFTER FINDING THIS FORUM, I AM GLAD TO KNOW I DIDN'T IMAGINE ALL OF THIS! *TR

FROM A STOP OR YIELD, UPON ACCELERATION VAN JERKED. IT DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. TECHNICIANS COULD NOT GET THE VAN TO DUPLICATE THIS ACTION, SO THEY COULD DO NOTHING. *TR

I'VE NOTICED ON COLD NIGHTS/DAYS (TEMPS BELOW 40 DEGREES). THE ENGINE TEMP IS SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE AT A COMPLETE STOP (AT STOP LIGHTS) THEN GO THAT WHILE I ACCELERATE IT STALLS, THE GAS PEDAL WOULD GO DOWN BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS WOULD JERK INTO SPEED. I'VE HAD 4 OTHER HONDA'S AND THIS IS THE FIRST ONE THAT HAS DONE THIS. *TR

1. I BOUGHT A 2014 HONDA ODYSSEY AROUND NEW YEAR WITH KEYLESS IGNITION. 2. WITH THIS CAR I CAN TURN OFF THE ENGINE WITH THE CAR STILL IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THEN I CAN OPEN THE DOORS AND WALK AWAY. AS IS THE NORM, NOTHING OBLIGES ME TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE CAR CAN BEGIN TO ROLL, ENDANGERING OCCUPANTS, PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER CARS. 3. THIS IS A BAD ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I'VE ALREADY ROLLED TWICE AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND MY BOYS OPENING THE SIDE DOORS. 4. EVERY CAR I'VE EVER DRIVEN FOR 40+ YEARS, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT FIRST SHIFTING TO PARK. 5. I'VE OWNED NEW HONDAS FOR 20+ YEARS. FROM TIME TO TIME I WOULD GET RECALL NOTICES ABOUT CARS ROLLING WHEN THEY SHOULDN'T. THE SITUATION NEVER APPLIED TO ME BUT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE - WORTHY OF A GENERAL RECALL. *TR
