Engine surge when appying brake. This has occurred approximately 6 times in 2024 and happens when applying brakes when coming to a stop. Please note previous reports regarding engine surge when braking.

1st incident Fall 2023 Approaching a stop sign, decelerating from 30mph I pressed on the brake to complete the stop but the engine roared, RPMs revved, & the vehicle accelerated, better it lurched, forward. I mashed down the brake pedal as hard as I could but it would not stop the vehicle. All I could do was put it into park. Happens almost weekly, at least 7 times, but not predictably. Once in December, I was approaching a four way stop sign around 3:30pm, I had been driving the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes & the weather was good (no ice, partly cloudy, roads clear & dry). As I came to the stop sign, pressing the brake the final time to complete the stop, it roared loudly, the RPMs jumped high, and the vehicle surged forward through the intersection. I let off the brake and tried to smash it down again, but it wouldn’t go to the floor (only a mild decompression) so I powered through the intersection, thank God no one was coming. I didn’t pull over or turn the vehicle off, I continued going my way home. 15 minutes later, turning into my driveway the brakes worked normally, like nothing had happened. [XXX] I took it to a Honda dealership. They upgraded the transmission & flushed the transmission lines three times. They were unable to replicate the issue & could not detect any codes or communication of an issue in the system. I took it home with no answers. [XXX] I was approaching a stoplight to turn left. I was driving, my brother was in the passenger seat. Weather conditions were good: clear skies, no ice/rain/snow, roads dry & clear. I had been driving the vehicle for less than 10 minutes & I had given it ~ 5 minutes to “warm up” since it’s Minnesota. I met a stop sign w/o issue, but then as I approached a nearby stoplight it surged forward just like before. I pressed the brake to complete the stop, the engine roaring so loudly my brother said “it’s gonna blow up!” Back to Honda dealership on [XXX]. Still no resolution. AFTER GETTING A CAR WASH FROM AN AUTOMATED CAR WASH, WHILE DRIVING TO A PARKING STALL TO VACUUM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING LEFT INTO THE PARKING STALL AND BRAKING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REV'D, ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE OVER A PARKING CURB BLOCK AND INTO A POLE AT THE CAR WASH. THE RESULTING COLLISION HAPPENED ACROSS THE SPAN OF HALF A PARKING SPACE AND KNOCKED THE VEHICLE BACKWARDS A COUPLE FEET AFTER COLLIDING WITH THE POLE. THE COLLISION TRIGGERED BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS AND RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE OF THE CAR WASH.

WHILE BRAKING AT 50+MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER A YEAR. WE HAVE HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED, THE ROTORS AND BREAK PADS ARE GOOD. THIS IS BECOMING A SAFETY HAZARD AND HONDA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOW TO RESPOND. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CONCORD HONDA (1461 CONCORD AVE, CONCORD, CA 94520, (855) 679-6829) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED AND UPGRADED FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

AT 26608 MILES FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED. HONDA DEALER DID THIS AT 'NO CHARGE FOR FIRST TIME ONLY.' ROTORS VIBRATED AGAIN AT 50000 MILES AND WERE REPLACED INDEPENDENTLY WITH NON HONDA PARTS. NOW AGAIN AT 70000 MILES THE VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING IS WORSE THAN EVER BEFORE. BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AS WELL WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. WITH SO MANY OWNERS HAVING THIS ISSUE HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS IT.

WE HAVE HAD ON GOING PROBLEMS WITH OUR ROTORS. THEY HAD TO BE MACHINED AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES AND REPLACE AFTER 30,000 MILES. WE REPLACED THEM WITH HIGH END NAPA ROTORS SINCE WE DID NOT TRUST HONDA ROTORS AND HONDA REFUSED TO REPLACE THEM. NOW AT 54,000 MILES, THE BRAKES ARE SHIMMYING AGAIN.

2 POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES OCCURRING AT 55000 MILES OR LESS WITH NO RECALL FROM HONDA: TRANSMISSION JERKING AT LOW SPEEDS AND WARPED BRAKE ROTORS AT LOW MILEAGE: ISSUE 1: WHEN TRAVELING UP A HILL (SMALL TO MODERATE GRADE) THE VAN HAS A JERKING MOTION AND THE NEEDLE ON THE ODOMETER BOUNCES BACK AND FORTH ABOUT 200 RPMS WITH THE FOOT STEADY ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR QUITE SOME TIME ON HILLS BUT NOW AT 55000 MILES THE VAN IS DOING IT ON A LEVEL SERVICE WHILE IN 2ND GEAR (OR WHEN TRANSITIONING TO 2ND FROM 1ST). AGAIN THE FOOT IS STEADY ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VAN JERKS WITH THE NEEDLE BOUNCING ON THE ODOMETER A FEW HUNDRED RPMS BACK AND FORTH FOR A SHORT BIT UNTIL INTO 3RD GEAR. I READ OF A TSB 16-060 THAT THE CAUSE IS IMPROPER HEATING OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE SHORT-TERM FIX IS TO DRAIN AND FILL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WHILE A FUTURE FIX IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT IS NOT YET COMPLETED. ISSUE 2: WHEN BRAKING THERE IS VIOLENT VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, DON'T REMEMBER THE DATE BUT WHILE STILL UNDER THE 3 YEAR/36000 MILE WARRANTY, THEY TURNED THE ROTORS WHICH CAUSED THE VIBRATIONS TO GO AWAY. NOW AT 55000 MILES THE VAN IS AGAIN HAVING VIOLENT VIBRATIONS WHILE BRAKING. THE ROTORS SHOULD NOT WARP SO FAST, WITH LOW MILEAGE.

COMING DOWN MCDONALDS PASS, THE VAN WAS GOING FASTER THAN I WANTED, 50 OR 60 MILES PER HOUR SO I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN ON CLEAR BLACKTOP, NO ICE. WHEN I DID,THE FRONT END WHEELS SHIMMIED EACH TIME I TAPPED THE BREAKS. IT SCARED ME, BECAUSE IF IT HAD BEEN ICY, I COULD NOT HAVE SLOWED DOWN AT AN APPROPRIATE SPEED TO GET TO A SAFER SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY SLOW DOWN, BUT THE FRONT END KEPT SHIMMYING EACH TIME I TAPPED THE BRAKES GOING DOWN THE STEEP HILL AND THERE WERE CURVES IN THE ROAD AS WELL.

I WAS DRIVING (IN MOTION) ON SLIPPERY, WET, BUT ICY ROADS IN TOWN. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. TWICE, I HAD TO STOP SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN I NORMALLY WOULD HAVE, BUT WHEN I STARTED TAPPING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP, THEY FELT LIKE THEY LOCKED UP ON ME AND IT TOOK AWHILE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO HAVE ANY "BRAKE" FEELING AT ALL! THE WHEEL WALLS, I NOTICED LATER HAVE SMALL SPACE BETWEEN TIRE AND WHEEL WALL, CAUSING SNOW BUILD-UP, WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED A PROBLEM IN THE BRAKING ABILITY ALSO. AFTER THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE MORE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, MY BRAKE SENSOR LIGHT WARNING CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON NOW. BUT, AFTER I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE CAR WASH AND GOT ALL THE ICE OUT OF THE WHEEL WELLS, THE BRAKES ARE WORKING FINE AND SMOOTH STOPPING, STILL ICY CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD. I THINK THE WHEEL WALLS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN THE TIRES AND WHEEL WALLS. IN ICY CONDITIONS, IT SEEMS TO BE PUTTING DANGEROUS PRESSURE ON MY BRAKE SYSTEM, WHEN IN MOTION APPLYING THE BRAKES. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A ROAD WHEN ALL THE ABOVE OCCURRED.

THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE FAULTY AND BECOME EASILY WARPED, CAUSING SEVERE SHAKING WHEN BRAKING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS BUT GENERALLY OVERALL. THE HONDA DEALER ADMITS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT COVER THE ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY. OUR VAN HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, AND THE ISSUE WAS FIRST NOTICED AROUND 20,000 MILES. WE'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE, AND THEY OFFERED TO "RESURFACE" THE ROTORS FOR $170 OR REPLACE WITH "UPDATED ROTORS" FOR $562 BUT DECLINED TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY (WE EVEN PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY). I EMAILED THE DEALER WITH MY CONCERNS, AND I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE FORWARDED TO MANAGEMENT. I CALLED HONDA AS WELL TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT, AND THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE SAID SHE WOULD FORWARD OUR CONCERNS TO ENGINEERING.

WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM A FAMILY TRIP TO OUR LOCAL MOUNTAINS, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHUTTER WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE ELEVATION CHANGE FROM BIG BEAR, CALIFORNIA TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL IN HIGHLAND, CALIFORNIA IS APPROXIMATELY 5400 FEET. I WAS NOT "RIDING" THE BRAKES NOR WAS I SPEEDING. I ONLY APPLIED THEM TO APPROPRIATELY SLOW THE VEHICLE IN CURVES. I WAS CONCERNED ENOUGH THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFECTIVELY SLOW THE VEHICLE, OR CONTROL THE VEHICLE, THAT I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS AND SAW NOTHING VISUALLY. WHEN RESUMING DOWN THE HILL, THE SHUTTERING WAS MUCH BETTER FOR A COUPLE OF CURVES AND THEN CONTINUED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO NURSE THE VEHICLE DOWN THE HILL, UNTIL THEY WERE MORE STRAIGHTAWAYS AND I NEEDED THE BRAKES LESS. THE SHUTTERING DIMINISHED UPON LESS USE/COOLING. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE, I FOUND THAT OVERHEATING OF THE BRAKE ROTORS IS EXTREMELY COMMON ON MY HONDA VEHICLE. I ALSO LEARNED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, SO MUCH SO THAT THEY HAVE REDESIGNED THE REPLACEMENT ROTORS FOR MY VEHICLE. THE REDESIGN INCLUDES ROTOR VENTS TO HELP KEEP THE ROTORS COOL. I FEEL THE DESIGN FLAW OF THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ROTORS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY HONDA THROUGH A RECALL.

ALL WORK DONE AT HONDA DEALERSHIP

CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT IS NORMAL BRAKE WEAR. AFTER DRIVING FOR 40 YRS HOW OR WHAT TYPE OF MATERIAL IS HONDA USING FOR THEIR ROTORS NEVER HAPPENED ON ANY PAST CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THIS IS A MAJOR ACCIDENT GOING TO HAPPEN. COMING DOWN A MOUNTAIN ROAD IS DANGEROUS LOOK INTO THIS.

THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS STARTED AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THEY IMMEDIATELY SAID I NEEDED THE BRAKES RESURFACED BEFORE THEY EVEN DROVE THE CAR. THIS TELLS ME THEY ARE AWARE OF A RECURRING ISSUE. AT THIS POINT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT 38,000 MILES BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED BRAND NEW TIRES THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I HAD THEM ALIGN THE TIRES THAT DAY, AND THE SHAKING DID NOT GO AWAY. HONDA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND RECALL FAULTY BRAKES. THEY SHOULD NOT NEED COSTLY REPAIRS AT THIS LOW MILEAGE.

AT 20,000 MILES, BRAKING FROM FREEWAY SPEEDS STARTED TO CAUSE SHUDDERING AND JERKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WE WERE ABLE TO LIVE WITH IT FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AT 27,960 MILES, AND WERE TOLD THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE DEALER RESURFACED THE ROTORS WITHOUT OUR AUTHORIZATION AND SAID THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE (THEY SHOW CLEAR SIGNS OF HEAT DAMAGE). THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND HONDA HAS ALREADY DISCONTINUED THE OLD ROTOR, AND A NEW ROTOR IS AVAILABLE, PART # 45251-TK8-A02. YET, HONDA REFUSES TO REPLACE OUR DEFECTIVE ROTORS, MAKING OUR VEHICLE DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. REFINISHING THE ROTORS WILL ONLY TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WILL QUICKLY OVERHEAT AGAIN, AND HONDA OBVIOUSLY JUST HOPES THIS HAPPENS AFTER OUR WARRANTY EXPIRES. THIS IS A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE (2 YEARS), AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSING TO HONOR THEIR WARRANTY, AND THE SAFETY OF OUR BRAKING SYSTEM DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS.

I HAVE FOUND THAT HONDA HAS RECENTLY CHANGED OUT THE ROTORS THEY USE TO TRY AND COMBAT THIS PROBLEM, THOUGH, NEVER FORMALLY ISSUING A RECALL OR NOTICE TO EVERYONE THAT HAS BEEN HIT BY THIS ISSUE.

THE BRAKES ON OUR 2014 ODYSSEY STARTED VIBRATING SLIGHTLY WHEN APPLIED AT 20,000 MILES. SLOWLY THE VIBRATION HAS INCREASED WITH TIME AND IS NOW VERY APPARENT AT 28K. OUR DEALER CLAIMS THAT THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETEN ON THE ISSUE AND IT APPEARS THA THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE RESURFACED. HOWEVER, WE ARE VERY CAUTIOUS DRIVERS AND HVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF OUR NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES. ALSO, WHEN LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON THE PROBLEM ON THE WEB, IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A LONGSTANDING ISSUE THAT HONDA APPEARS TO BE AVOIDING. AND SIMPLY PUT, TRUEING THE ROTORS WILL ONLY TEMPORARLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND HASTEN A REACURRANCE! TO SAY THE LEAST, THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE WITH OUR FIRST ODYSSEY!

YA OK. $120 + LABOR + TAXES LATER AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO MY DRIVING STYLE.. WHICH I DO NOT "RIDE THE BRAKES" NOR DO I "BREAK HARD" . WE HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER CAR. MY HUSBANDS CHEVY MALIBU HAS OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE HIS BRAKES DONE. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY OR SOME SORT OF RECALL ON THE ROTORS.

I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PERFORM THREE-POINT TURN TO PARK IN GARAGE. SLOWLY (<5MPH) APPROACHING END OF FIRST ARC, I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO STOP. IT WAS SNOWING AND SLIPPERY, AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT SKID OF VEHICLE. I PRESSED HARDER ON BRAKES TO STOP, WHICH RESULTED IN REVVING OF THE ENGINE AND CRASH OF VEHICLE INTO WALL/GARAGE SUPPORT. I LOOKED DOWN TO CONFIRM MY FOOT WAS ONLY CONTACTING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK TO COMPREHEND WHAT HAD JUST OCCURRED. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO COMPLETE 2ND ARC OF THREE-POINT TURN, AND COMPLETED PARKING IN THE GARAGE.

AT THAT TIME MECHANIC STATED THEY WHERE HAVING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH ODYSSEY ROTORS AS THE ROTOR WAS TOO SMALL FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE ODYSSEY. MECHANIC AND SERIVE WRITER STATED THAT ALL IT TOOK TO WRAPP ROTORS WAS ONE SEMI-HARD STOP. DEALER RE-SURFACE ROTOR UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE BRAKE PADS THAT HAD A GROOVE IN THEM FROM WRAPPED ROTOR. NOW AT 44,000 MILES, NOV.3, 2015, ROTORS ARE WRAPPED AGAIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. DEALER REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM HONDA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF BY REPLACING ROTORS WITH A HEAVY DUTY ROTOR AND NEW BRAKE PADS.

THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

EXPERIENCED EXTREME SHAKING WHILE BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID MY ROTORS ARE WARPED. I ASKED THEM WHY MY ROTORS WERE WARPED AT 6K MILES AND THEY DIDN'T REALLY SAY ANYTHING. THE PROBLEM CAME BACK ANOTHER TIME SIX MONTHS LATER AND AGAIN THEY TURNED THE ROTORS. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEY SAID MY ROTORS ARE TOO THIN TO TURN AND THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 20K MILES. I COMPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THREE OTHER CARS ALREADY OF THIS YEAR/MAKE WITH ROTOR NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT LOW MILEAGE. THEY SAID THIS IS MORE NORMAL FOR A 60K MILE PLUS TYPE MAINTENANCE. HONDA HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND PADS FOR THE COST OF THE PARTS (FREE LABOR). HOWEVER I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT IT AS IT SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT AFFECTING MORE THAN JUST MY CAR.

WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR AND BREAKING THE CAR SHUTTERES. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND THE CAR WOULD FEEL OUT OF CONTROL WHEN BRAKING AT OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR. THE FIRST FEW TIMES IT HAPPENED WAS IN WET WEATHER AND I ATTRIBUTED IT TO THAT. BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND THE FIRST ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT ABOUT 3000 MILES. SUBSEQUENTLY THE ROTORS WERE CHANGED 2 MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. THE FOURTH TIME WE REPORTED IT TO HONDA NATIONAL. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS TOO HOT IN FLORIDA AND I BREAK TOO HARD DESPITE THE FACT THAT I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND NEVER CAME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TOLD US THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT SELL OUR CURRENT VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WASN'T SAFE. SO BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTANCES WE HAD TO PAY FEES LARGE FEES FOR ANOTHER CAR. HONDA REFUSES TO ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM . IF YOU RESEARCH ON THE WEB THERE WERE HUNDREDS EVEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH PEOPLE GIVEN THE SAME ANSWER BY HONDA. I THINK THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM AND THE SHUTTERING GETS WORSE VERY QUICKLY AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY AND SOMEBODY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM.

AT 10K MILES, WE HAD VIBRATION AND SPORADIC HUMMING NOISE FROM BRAKES.I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA LAST YEAR WITH ABOUT 12.5K MILES ON VEHICLE.THEY WERE UNABLE TO HEAR THE NOISE BUT THEY WANTED TO TURN THE ROTORS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND SAID IT WENT OUT OF WARRANTY AT 12K MILES.WE WERE SHOCKED AS WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD TO SERVICE BRAKES THIS EARLY.AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE MANAGER THEY AGREED TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY AND SAID BECAUSE OF DRIVING HABITS SOMETIMES BRAKES JUST NEED TO BE REPLACED SOONER.THE NOISE CONTINUED, WE TOOK IT BACK AROUND 24K MILES.THEY COULDN'T HEAR THE NOISE BUT SHAVED REAR ROTORS TO SEE IF IT HELPED. NOW WE HAVE 35K MILES AND BACK AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR VIBRATION AND NOISE.THIS TIME I TOOK A CLIP OF THE NOISE SO THEY COULD HEAR IT. THE SOLUTION WAS NEW PADS AND TURN THE ROTORS ON ALL AXELS AND IT WOULD BE ABOUT $400 SINCE ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY.THEY SAID BRAKES WERE IN MECHANICALLY GOOD CONDITION AND THE PADS STILL HAD ABOUT 40% SO I COULD JUST LIVE WITH NOISE AND VIBRATION IF I DIDNT WANT TO DO THE BRAKE JOB.I SAID I THOUGHT THIS WAS RIDICULOUS BASED ON ITS MILEAGE AND WAS AGAIN TOLD BASICALLY ITS DEPENDENT ON DRIVING HABITS (ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM ON ANY OTHER CAR IVE OWNED).I SAID I THINK ITS A HONDA BRAKE DESIGN ISSUE IN THAT ROTORS AND PADS ARE NOT ROBUST ENOUGH FOR THE SIZE OF THE VEHICLE AS THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA AND ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUES.WE TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO AGREED THEY HAVE SEEN THIS AS A PROBLEM AND ADMITTED HE HAS A PILOT THAT NEEDS BRAKES ABOUT EVERY 40K MILES.THEY AGREED TO TURN THE BACK ROTORS TO SEE IF THAT FIXES THE NOISE AND OFFERED A DISCOUNT TO DO THE FRONT BRAKES.HE LET US KNOW WE COULD USE AFTER MARKET PADS THAT MAY BE BETTER BUT ARENT UNDER THE HONDA WARRANTY (WE DIDNT DO THIS AND USED SAME PADS WITH LESS THAN APPEALING 12K MILE WARRANTY).

UPON REVIEW IT WAS FOUND FRONT BRAKE PADS ARE 80% AND BACK ARE 50% BUT FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED. DEALER IS NOT COVERING AS 'UNDER WARRANTY' SAYING THAT WARPED ROTORS ARE DRIVER WEAR. EVERYTHING I'M READING ONLINE SAYS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF 2011-2014 ODYSSEYS AND THAT THERE ARE MIXED RESULTS ON DEALERS COVERING UNDER WARRANTY. I DO NOT DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY AND DO NOT DRIVE MOUNTAINS/HILLS. I'VE HAD 5 HONDA'S INCLUDING ONE OTHER ODYSSEY WE DROVE FOR 9 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I'M ALSO READING IT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO HAPPEN REPEATEDLY AT LOW MILEAGE RATES. I WILL ADD ANOTHER CLAIM IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF A VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. TECH FOUND ROTORS ARE WARPED. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF ROTORS. THE FIRST SET WARPED AT 13,000 MILES AND WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND SET HAVE WARPED AT 11,000 MILES. DEALER SAID THAT THEY CAN TURN THE ROTORS BUT CANNOT REPLACE AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY UNLESS AMERICAN HONDA AUTHORIZES REPLACEMENT. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA (AH) 1-800-999-1009 ON 5/29/15. RECEIVED VOICE MAIL MESSAGE FROM AH ON 6/1/15 THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER FOR INFORMATION. RECEIVED CALL FROM AH REP CHRISTOPHER (EXT. 117726), ON 6/9/15 STATING AH WOULD NOT REPLACE ROTORS BUT WOULD TURN AS COURTESY. I ASKED WHY NOT FULL REPLACEMENT AS 1ST SET OF BRAKES DEGRADED AT 13K MILES AND 2ND SET AT EVEN LOWER MILEAGE, 11K. REP SAYS MANY REASONS COULD HAVE CAUSED WEAR, WEATHER CONDITIONS, DRIVING STYLE, WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. I SAID THAT IF IT WAS WEIGHT OF VEHICLE THEN AH HAS FAULTY BRAKE DESIGN. THEN HE SAID THAT ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT IT WAS MY DRIVING STYLE. I SAID THAT BACKPEDDLING AND THAT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW I DRIVE. I THEN ASKED HIM FOR THE ESTIMATED LIFESPAN, IN MILES, OF THE BRAKES AND HE SAID THEY DON'T HAVE A LIFESPAN. I SAID THAT THERE HAS TO BE ONE, IS IT 15K OR 40K? HE REPEATED THAT THERE WAS NONE AVAILABLE. I ASKED HIM TO PUT THEIR (AH) CONCLUSION IN WRITING, USING THE ASSIGNED CASE NUMBER, N01-2015-05-29-01387. HE SAID AH WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANYTHING IN WRITING, BUT THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD WRITE UP A SERVICE ORDER. I REPEATED MY REQUEST FOR A WRITTEN REPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT AND HE INSISTED THAT AH DOES NOT DO THAT. NOTE: VEHICLE HAD STRUT ASSEMBLY REPLACED, UNDER WARRANTY, AT 6K MILES. UNDER WARRANTY, DEALERSHIP TO HAVE FAULTY DOOR LOCK ACCUATORS (LOCKS ACTIVATE AFTER EVERY STOP), WINDOW RUN CHANNELS/SEALS, AND BACK UP CAMERA CIRCUITS REPLACED. PARTS ORDERED 5/29/15.

CLANKING NOISE METAL ON METAL IN REAR BRAKES, DOWNSHIFTS AT LOWER SPEEDS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 35 MPH, SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN AND TRANSMISSION JUMPS FEELS LIKE BEING REAR ENDED, PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T ENGAGE AT TIMES, ON FLAT WHEN PUTTING INTO PARK TRANSMISSION CLUNKS AND VEHICLE HAS A DEFINITE MOVEMENT LIKE SOMETHING FALLING OUT OR ON VEHICLE, LOOSES POWER AT 65 MPH NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE GAS PEDAL IS FLOORED THEN SUDDENLY JUMPS INTO HIGH SPEED THRUSTING VAN FORWARD, TRANSMISSION JUMPS SEVERELY WHEN PARKED ON A GRADED SLOPE AND MAKE METAL CLANKING SOUND. DEALER SAYS THERE ARE NO ISSUES AND THIS IS ALL NORMAL. THIS IS A DIRECT SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME AND I AM WORRIED THAT SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AT ONE POINT SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO SENSORS WERE PERFORMED BUT DID NOT CORRECT ISSUE. BRAKE ISSUE DISCOVERED AND ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CORRECT TWICE. TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. ALSO A LOUD ELECTRONIC COMPUTER SOUNDING LIKE AN ANCIENT REBOOT OF AN OLD COMPUTER IS GREATLY NOTICEABLE WHEN THE PROBLEMS ACT UP. TOLD THIS IS NORMAL AN NO PROBLEMS BY THE DEALER. I FEEL I AM BEING IGNORED AND TREATED LIKE A STUPID PERSON EACH TIME I CALL. BOUGHT VEHICLE IN MARCH 2014, ONLY A FEW MONTHS LATER I STARTED HAVING VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE BRAKING. IT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND HAPPENED EACH TIME I WOULD COME TO A STOP. WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 30MPH AND PERFORMED A PANIC STOP AS A DELIVERY TRUCK IN FRONT STOPPED AND TURNED SUDDENLY. CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD AFTER THE DELIVERY TRUCK TURNED IN DRIVEWAY. GOING DOWN THE NEXT HILL OF THE 30MPH ROAD, THE BRAKES FAILED AS THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO THE POSTED SPEED. DRIVER STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ONLY SLIGHTLY AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COAST THE VEHICLE TO A STOP ON A LONG RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY. JUST BEFORE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP A GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD. GRINDING SOUND BECOME HIGHER PITCHED JUST BEFORE NOISE AND VEHICLE STOPPED. AFTER STOPPING, DRIVER TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THE DRIVER RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND BRAKING FUNCTION RETURNED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. CURRENT INFORMATION FROM DEALER IS THAT NO CAUSE HAS BEEN FOUND. ONLY EXPLANATION IS THAT BRAKES WERE OVERHEATED DUE TO THE PANIC STOP. DRIVING HOME FROM DEALERSHIP SATURDAY EVENING THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAL IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. FRONT BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAL EXCESSIVELY LOUD WHEN STOPPING, BUT THE NOISE ALSO CONTINUED WHEN FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATING. WHEN FULLY STOPPED COULD SMELL BURNT BRAKE PAD. TOOK VEHICLE TO NEAREST HONDA DEALER ON MONDAY WHO EXAMINED THE FRONT BREAKS AND FOUND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET INSTALLED INCORRECTLY (MISALIGNED) WHICH ALSO LEAD TO THE CALIPER BEING DAMAGED. SERVICE TECHNICIAN BELIEVED THIS TO BE AN ASSEMBLY DEFECT. DEALER WILL REPLACE PARTS AND CORRECT ISSUE UNDER MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. *TR
