My computer screen that has my radio and backup camera will black out randomly while I’m driving. There are times I can’t use it for a backup camera because it won’t cut on. I’m not able to control my heat and a/c when it goes blank too.

Jan 5, 2026

Since I own this vehicle, 3 times tailgate failed. I have done repair it twice in Honda dealership at Paramus NJ. Now it happened again after a year of last fix. Instrument cluster = Warning sign appears stays there. Somewhere on back = Constantly sound beeping - When driving Tailgate = Does not open and if open some how, it does not close. Neither automatic nor manually. I have to drive vehicle since I have no choice. I inspected all fuse in front under hood and in rear at cargo area.

Dec 19, 2025

The Tailgate Control Module failed due to water getting in to it from normal rain. There seems to be a leak in the seam and caused the failure. I took it to the shop and confirmed the failure, purchased a new control module and replaced the faulty one. I opened up the faulty one and it had water damage inside.

Dec 13, 2025

The Infotainment Display has been malfunctioning. The display goes black and the back-up camera is not available. On the night of December 12, 2025, we were driving the car on the highway and the screen flickered in and out and then went black and so did the dashboard display. This was very scary as the entire car went dark and we were driving blindly on the highway. It appears that all 2018 Honda Odysseys have a recall for the Infotainment electrical system except for the Elite model that we purchased. I called the dealer last week and was told no recall available and we will need to pay the $179 diagnostic fee plus the cost to repair which will be significant. We will take the car in this week as the car cannot be driven safely without full dashboard and backup camera display.

Dec 8, 2025

My vehicle repeatedly and unexpectedly shifts into neutral while in Drive, causing a sudden loss of power in traffic. This has happened multiple times without any input from me and has nearly caused a crash.

Nov 8, 2025

The infotainment center has completely failed. It began with sporadic shutting off and then restarting of the infotainment system as if a wire or connector were loose, along with popping sounds until the unit no longer turns on and appears to have completely failed. This effects ability of back up camera to function because the screen no longer works. There appears to be a recall of other Honda vehicles needing new wire connectors for a similar problem but it does not seem to include this vehicle.

Oct 16, 2025

The media touch screen display periodically goes blank and reboots during driving, which affects the backup camera, defrost control, and every other component controlled on the touchscreen display.

Oct 14, 2025

Windshield monocular camera overheated. No longer working.

Oct 8, 2025

FAILED MONOCULAR CAMERA : It is a very common issue across majority of HONDA ODYSSEY. It's the overheating of the camera and start to malfunction, causing all the warning systems lights to illuminate. A lots of people and families who have owned or currently owns HONDA ODYSSEYS minivans have either faced this problem in the past or having it more commonly now. Due to the malfunction caused by the FAILED MONOCULAR CAMERA, it tends to automatically disables the Lane assist function, Engine light comes on, Cruise control get disabled and two other warning comes on the dash. Please note that there are a lots of families who own these HONDA ODYSSEY have been facing this manufacturing fault that HONDA needs to address.

Oct 8, 2025

The camera started malfunctioning and now I have a bunch of warning lights on the dash. I think is crazy that a lot of people have the same issue and still there is no recalls for it. Is a MAJOR safety issue.

Oct 2, 2025

Mass safety system failure due to front projector camera/ wiring harness. noted systems below failed: Adaptive cruise control Auto emergency braking Forward collision warning Lane departure warning Lane keeping assistance Auto High beams All above system are not operational

Like many other people on the [XXX] forums, our Honda Odyssey has a water leak that dripped onto the Tailgate Control Module, causing it to corrode and stop working. Now, our tailgate door will not open or close electrically, nor even manually using the handle outside. We have to crawl through the vehicle into the trunk, open a trim piece with a screwdriver, and stick our finger into the mechanical parts to disengage the latch to allow the door to open. Safety issues: 1) It's hard to know whether the door is fully closed and latched, so it could pop open while driving. 2) In the event of a car crash or other emergency, we may need to rely on that tailgate door being operational, so it being jammed by a widespread and known problem seems like a predictable life threatening issue. Links to some of the forum threads where other people report the exact same issue: [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

D passenger side, rear electric door get stuck a lot of times and open by itself. When you close it , it goes all the way till get close to the end then open as it there is something it try not to close on . This being going for the last 2 to 3 years.

Sep 12, 2025

On [XXX], while driving in traffic, my 2018 Honda Odyssey suddenly and without warning shifted itself into Park. The vehicle slammed to a stop in the middle of an intersection, stranding my family and creating a serious risk of collision and injury. The vehicle would not move afterward and had to be towed from the scene. After the failure, the dashboard displayed multiple warnings: “Transmission Problem,” “Stop Driving When Safe,” “Emission System Problem,” and *“Blind Spot Information System Problem.” The gear shift indicator also blinked. The Odyssey has remained undrivable since the incident. The vehicle is at Stockton 12 Honda in Sandy, Utah, where the dealer confirmed a hard transmission failure (RO #[XXX]). Honda Corporate opened two cases (#[XXX] and #[XXX]). Despite my repeated calls and emails, Honda’s assigned case manager verbally denied coverage on Sept 12, 2025, stating the denial would only be reflected in Honda’s internal case notes. This failure is identical to the defect described in NHTSA Recall 19V-299, in which the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) can reboot due to low voltage and cause the transmission to shift into Park while driving. Although my VIN is not currently flagged, my Odyssey EX-L uses the same ZF 9-speed transmission and TCU as affected trims. I have a tow record, witnesses, and video evidence documenting the event. The vehicle remains disabled, leaving my family without safe transportation. This is a serious safety defect that should require investigation and expansion of the existing recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Aug 22, 2025

In our 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L, a few weeks ago 5 different warning lights started coming on when the vehicle was started and continued while the car was driven. Lane Assist, collision warning, auto high beams, braking system and adaptive cruise control. Just yesterday the rear hatch started to malfunction; currently the rear hatch can be opened and closed manually but the power lift does not function and now is the 6th warning on the driving display. The car was taken to a Honda Dealership for diagnosis, and after paying $99 for the diagnosis of the issues, several other diagnosis fees would be required to get to the root of the issue which the Tech states is most likely a control module malfunction due to a water leak. The fix would then be finding and fixing the leak, then replacing the module and wrapping the module in plastic to prevent future issues. Then more diagnosis fees to find and correct the other issues which could include replacing the multipurpose camera. -If a selling point of the driver assist, collision warning and automatic braking are safety improvements, by default if the system is faulty then ours and others safety is at an increased risk. -the vehicle has been inspected by a dealer -before a few weeks ago no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms were present. All of the symptoms have been rather sudden. We have been getting rain almost daily for the past few weeks.

Aug 8, 2025

Water intrusion, verified by observation/application of water. The leak resulted in water dripping on the Tailgate/Liftgate Control Module and the general rear cargo area, causing corrosion inside the control module rendering the control module inoperable, which made the power liftgate inoperable as well. Additionally, the rear cargo area had standing water that had accumulated over an unknown period of time that was visible when you lifted the carpeting. The liftgate latch mechanism also "locked" while the liftgate was open, making securing it closed in the normal way impossible. I would have needed to secure it with bungee cords or tape or some other haphazard way if I wanted to drive it safely on the streets or any contents in the back of the van could have fell out in traffic, or the liftgate may have inadvertently lifted at any time or place uncommanded, causing any type of hazard. Replacing the Control Module ($331.53) remedied the liftgate failure. However, the leak remains, and will allow the same thing to continue to happen. Applying water to the area where the seam on the drivers side body panel and the roof panel meet resulted in water being seen dripping in the interior of the vehicle and onto the liftgate control module. This area should have been made waterproof before the vehicle left the factory, and should be recalled to make it right.

Aug 7, 2025

The vehicle body weather seal did not function water was leaked into the rear trunk of the vehicle, resulting in water damaged carpet/ foam and malfunctioning/ broken power liftgate control module for the rear hatch. The control module was found to be corroded resulting in a nonfunctional rear hatch.

Aug 1, 2025

Suddenly the Van gave me 5 different warnings as below. 1. Adaptive Cruise Control problem. 2. Lane Keep Asist Problem 3. Collision Mitigation System Problem 4. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 5. Auto High-Beam Problem On top of these, 'Brake System' light also turned on.

Jul 28, 2025

the sensor/computer/camera on the windshield overheats and causes it to fail mines at 100,000 and its a $1600 repair dealer said because the windshield sits in sun while driving etc and the sensor overheats and melts the inside of the computer soldering. unacceptable so much for my safety features all gone i dont have the money to replace

Jul 12, 2025

Front camera failure causes multiple safety issues. Lane keep assist collision mitigation road departure mitigation high beam problem This is a known issue and the dealership knew about this immediately hearing the multiple warning signs. Cost of replacement is over $2000.

Jun 24, 2025

Crack in body seam above driver and passenger side of the tailgate AND underneath the roof rail cover caused water leakage. This resulted in a short of the power tailgate control module which draws down my battery and causes unexpected trunk closing during normal use. Family members have been hit in the head by the trunk due to the unexpected automatic emergency closing.

Defect-Linked Electrical Failures and Refusal of Support – 2018 Honda Odyssey I am filing a formal complaint regarding Honda’s refusal to cover a known, dangerous defect in my 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle is experiencing electrical and system-wide malfunctions that directly match Technical Service Bulletin 21-013, yet I’ve been denied goodwill coverage, and I am being forced to pay out-of-pocket for diagnosis and repair. The problems include: •Ongoing, loud popping sounds from the speakers while driving and after shutdown •System power failures, with audio and Bluetooth activating before the key is turned •Low battery warnings without cause •Factory HondaVAC system failure, now showing “PWR SAVE” despite a running engine I am a parent of five children and rely on this vehicle for daily transportation. These failures not only distract and stress the driver but compromise safety, communication, and vehicle reliability. Honda’s decision to shift financial responsibility for a known defect to the customer feels unjust and exploitative especially as many others have reportedly received goodwill repairs for the same issue. I am asking for assistance in holding Honda accountable under Massachusetts consumer protection laws. This is not typical wear and tear it is a manufacturer defect with ongoing safety implications. The power liftgate stopped working so the rear door won’t latch. We had to drive home with it closed but not latched and beeping the whole way. I believe water has leaked into the control unit from the roof. The error on the dashboard says Tail Gate: Power tailgate problem

Jun 16, 2025

I have had four diagnostics on this vehicle and it's pointing to sensors which are inside the transmission transmission was not leaking and wasn't slipping or nothing I went to get in the vehicle after it was sitting for an hour and I put it in reverse it went right back in the park I put it in dry went right back in the park I couldn't get it out of the park and it was saying on the dash that stop driving one safe transmission problem emission system problems okay like a four diagnostics that are saying that it is sensors transmission pressure sensor A park neutral switch is bad power source failure steering angle low voltage sensor failure four different things I cannot get any help I hear a bunch of different stories some are saying the transmission not so we're saying it's not a transmission isn't slipping I drove it car was fine it won't go into drive I've been told and I researches so much that if it's happened on the road it could slam in the park the be able to roll they could crash it's a very bad safety issue there are recalls on 50,000 of this year of the Honda Odyssey I'm being told that my VIN number is not on the recall list I don't understand why not it's doing exactly what all the other 50,000 recalls are doing and I can't get help fixing mine

May 28, 2025

The automatic tail gate stopped working. When I went to replace the tailgate control module I found out that it was damaged due to water that leaked into the rear driver side cabin area. After doing some research to figure out the problem, I found that there where many others that have had the same problems on the same year, make and model as mine.

May 13, 2025

My tailgate stopped working, I was getting messages on my dash board that there was transmission system problems, reverse warning problems, keyless entry system problems. It always seemed to happen after a rain. I found that the van is leaking water through the driver’s side roof rack gully, near the back, and water is leaking right on the tailgate control system, causing all these other problems. It is also causing the battery to drain when car is parked idle. There should be recall to fix the leakage and replace the controller. It's a design defect, water shouldn't sip inside and burn the electrical components. Costing me hundreds/thousands. This is also safety issue because water damaged controllers causing issues with ADAS components too - getting check engine, break lights, etc. while the car is in motion. If those safety features are not working, that can be very dangerous. Thanks

The tailgate module has been fixed three times by Honda, along with the tailgate being resealed by honda, however, the car continues to leak water through a seal in the drivers side upper rarea. The electrical components and fuse boxes have been full of water causing the vehicle to turn on automatically, have every light illuminated, tailgate open on its own, tailgate won’t close, no turn signals, no power to infotainment center, infotainment permanently displaying back up camera while in drive mode. The tailgate has been resealed by Honda (balise Honda of West Warwick) in March of 2024 and vehicle will be back there this week due to same issue. Battery needed replaced due to all the electronics misfiring and automatically turning on- car has left my family, my children stranded multiple times due to electrical issues misfiring and depleting battery.

Apr 3, 2025

The car has stalling problems and low power problem (changed 3 batteries in 5 years), took to dealership first time and they could not confirmed what's wrong. The problem became worse and stalled a few times, took to local shop and code p2638 torque management feedback signal came back, indicating problem with transmission or TCU. Then, it was noted that there's a NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:19V-299, specifically "Low voltage situations resulting from loose battery terminal connection(s) or a degraded battery could cause the Transmission Control Unit to reboot and shift the transmission to Park". The recall was on 2018-19 Honda Odyssey, however, my car's VIN is not included, therefore it is not covered. Contacted Honda corporate, they are saying since VIN is not part of the recall, it is not covered. The year, the model and the problem are exactly matches what's in the recall but Honda refuse to cover it or giving good will discount.

Mar 31, 2025

The power tailgate has a failure. I took my minivan to a local mechanic who said the motor has failed. I tried to see if I could do the repair myself and came across a number of forums and YouTube videos that detail this is a known, reoccurring issue.

Mar 29, 2025

Front facing camera malfunctioning, and it is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction causing 5 different warning lights to show up on dashboard. Including 1.) Auto high beam problem, Lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, road departure mitigation problem. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer. There were no warning lights prior to the random malfunction. I have not had wind shield replaced (which I have read could mean a calibration of the camera issue), nor has there been any accidents taken place. My safety is at risk as I am unable to use these features while driving unless the front camera is replaced.

Mar 27, 2025

Failure of the tailgate module and blind spot sensor simultaneously. Electrical issues previously fixed due to water infiltration and this seems to be a recurring issue.

Mar 22, 2025

Auto engine stop feature shuts off the vehicle when engaged. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop at a light or in heavy traffic, the auto engine stop feature will engage but the engine will not restart. The only way to restart the engine is to shutoff the vehicle, open and close the drivers door, then restart the car. This problem has been occurring for a few years. We have brought the vehicle to a dealer but they say nothing is wrong.

Mar 21, 2025

During rain and snow storms I will get warning lights that the power tailgate isn’t working. Last year when I took it into the dealer they said the tailgate would open and close randomly and there was water in the rear fuse box. I thought I fixed the issue by replacing all the wires from the rear all the way to the front. They fixed my tailgate and did water testing to make sure no water was coming in through the tailgate and all was great. Fast forward to this year and the middle of February we had an all day snow and rain storm and I start having these same warning lights along with a couple others. By the end of the day the tailgate completely stops working. I take it back to the shop that had originally fixed it and water is getting in. Not from the tailgate but through some unknown opening. The fuse board is completely corroded and we have to replace it again. They could not determine where the water is coming in from. I do not want to be driving down the road and have my tailgate randomly open and have items fall on the road causing injury to someone. Nor do I want to have to pay $1000 to fix the circuit board every time it rains or snows. I live in Utah it happens frequently.

Mar 17, 2025

Improper seal on exterior driver side roof near trunk lift gate. Allows water inside during heavy rain or when going through a car wash and the water damages the control module for the power tailgate. Damage to the control module cuts off any use of the tailgate, even manually. This is a $900+ repair due to a MANUFACTURER ERROR

Mar 16, 2025

The power tailgate opened by itself while I was driving on high way at around 60mph. Later it stopped working/won't open and the car battery died as well. Went to Honda dealership for a Diagnosis and found a water leakage on the roof of the back, causing the tailgate control module to be burned out by water damage.

Mar 6, 2025

The circuit board for the module that controls the power lift gate is damaged from water. Water seeps in the roof rail and wets the panel causing the the power tailgate to lock shut and unable to be opened.

Mar 5, 2025

Multiple warnings occurred simultaneously for the "brake system" intermittent. I have the same issue per [XXX] for my Honda Odyssey 2018 elite. I can see the same problem by a lot of people. I told Honda and paid them $220 diagnosis fees and they ended up asked me to change the whole camera that cost 4k. This obviously defect issue from Honda. Looks like known issue for this. Can this escalate back to Honda? For example [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Feb 21, 2025

My car has had all recommended service completed by the dealership since I purchased my Honda Odyssey in 2018. On 2/18/25, my power liftgate started malfunctioning. An error message beeps inside my car 4 times, every 4 seconds and cannot be manually turned off. I took the car to the dealership and was quoted $7500 to make the repair. My car only has 90,000 miles on it and has passed all of my previous service inspections. Supposedly, water is getting into the rear control module. I have never had water in my car so this is clearly a manufacturer's defect that is allowing water to seep into the rear control module.

Feb 21, 2025

Went to leave my house at 8pm and the car was malfunctioning. Blind spot problem, parking sensor problem, road departure mitigation system problem, auto engine idle stop problem . Lights flickering on and off, console lights not working, can’t control heating speed. Light would not stay on as I was driving . I have a couple videos of the malfunction.

Jan 28, 2025

The Tailgate Control Module (TCM) was infiltrated with water due to a crack in the seam on the rear driver side panel. This caused the tailgate to be unusable and no longer latch as a result of no power to the tailgate latch. The TCM (Part #: 74970-THR-A12) had to be replaced as well as all seams needed to be sealed.

Jan 22, 2025

Did not control Engine up and down fuel nt work.

Jan 14, 2025

The seam seals on the rear driver's quarter panel of the vehicle are faulty and allowed water to flow into the cabin of the vehicle. The resulting damage was loss of function to the rear power lift gate, front seats, remote start and other key fob functions, as well as a dead battery(assumedly due to arcing on wet circuitry). The damage rendered the lift gate inoperable as I it initially closed but came open during operation. We continued to receive a power lift gae problem on the "Heads Up Display" but the power gate would not open or close, electrically or manually. After a few days the gate opened but would not close, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. Furthermore, the battery was dead and would not start. Had this incicdent not occurred in our driveway we could have been susceptible to being stranded in sub-freezing temperatures with kids. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they confirmed a roof leak was a cause of the water incursion. The power lift gate module and floor harness were damaged causing failures to lift gate operation and other electronics. It will cost $7000 to have it repaired at the local Honda dealer. Pending completion of repairs and paperwork for submission.

Jan 7, 2025

Tailgate warning beeps. Tailgare Will NOT open or Close. Dashboard lites flash. Vehicle will NOT START ! CANNOT START or move Vehicle!

Jan 2, 2025

Power tailgate malfunctions. Random errors showing on dashboard and randomly attempts to open on its own.

Dec 4, 2024

Infortainment center shuts down and loses connection. Which means there is no communication with the backup camera or navigation. Popping noises from the front speakers start static and pop then the screen states connection lost then goes black. Turns back on in about 5-10 minutes depending. Also the lighting for the buttons around the center are not working as well. Idk if this is related or is an overload that the system cannot keep up.

Nov 23, 2024

Unknown but many Honda Odyssey owners are reporting the same issue which most likely caused by defective multipurpose camera at the front windshield. This create alerts and deactivates safety features: adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, Lane keep assist, collision mitigation, auto-high beam, road departure mitigation, and Brake system.

Nov 7, 2024

Driving vehicle on the road, the suite of driver assistance system suddenly failed including LKAS, front collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure as well as brake system light. I took the car to the dealership which indicated the front camera had catastrophically failed. This issue seems to be a recurring issue in all models of odyssey minivans. The issue is well documented in online forums. It should be a safety recall from Honda compared to other recalls on same vehicle. Dealer quoted me $2000 to fix this! HONDA - fix this and issue a recall before there is a lawsuit and someone gets hurt

Nov 6, 2024

Multiple dash lights warnings (LKAS, forward collision, lane departure, etc.) came up. Brought it to the dealership and was told that this is an electrical camera issue that is overheating, and there is no preventative or ways to keep it from happening. It would cost an upward of $2000 to fix it. This should be part of the recall since it seems like it’s happened quite frequently with the other Honda Odyssey.

Oct 30, 2024

Lane keep assist, road mitigation, auto hi beam, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, road departure all errors and no longer work. New windshield wuth calibration august 2024, new battery 10/28/24. Issue started 10/25/24. A little over 90,000 miles on vehicle. Started vehicle in parking lot and all warnings came on. After new battery, warnings cine on and off at random.

Oct 25, 2024

When audio system is turned on, a very loud crackling sound occurs, and will continue after audio is turned off. Sirius XM works most of the time (with crackling sound). However, when the regular radio is turned on the audio will work for just a minute (with crackling sound), and then it will suddenly stop working and a message pops up on the display that says "audio connection lost". This also happens when a phone's Bluetooth audio is connected to the car. It triggers the audio system to suddenly fail. There has been other electrical issue with the rear lift-gate suddenly closing, with no way to stop it. It almost pinned my daughter and I on separate occasions. I'm not sure if this electrical issue is related to the audio issue, but as with any electrical issue I worry about the possibility of an electrical fire.

Oct 11, 2024

Rear tailgate is inoperable because of water damage. The rear driver side seatbelt is wet, the floor of the trunk is wet, the water damaged the control module for the rear tailgate, it does not open.

Sep 30, 2024

Just purchased a 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite and as soon as I turned on the sound to listen to music for carplay /bluetooth/stereo all methods of sound it started making loud crackling sounds and starts going intermittent with sound cutting out. I lowered the volume and crackling still loud like little tiny rocks hitting window sound. I seen there's a recall with the same issue for other vehicles but when i input my VIN there's no recalls. I am having the same issue and feel like my vin /vehicle type should be on recall as well.

The tailgate malfunctions and the car does not register the tailgate as closed even if it is closed. The power tailgate ceases to be operational and the locks do not work. The cause is a defect in a seam which allows rain water to reach the control unit for the tailgate. This was confirmed after an inspection at an official Honda dealer. This is a safety issue because it renders the car inoperable. The “tailgate open” warning signs and sounds flash. There is currently a Honda “Engineering Request for Investigation” released. The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear drivers side sliding door failed to latch securely. The contact stated that when the driver’s side sliding door was closing, the contact heard a whining sound. In addition, the instrument cluster displayed a black screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 141,565.

Failure of the Front windshield mounted monocular camera from overheating causes all advanced driver assistance systems to shut down such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, etc. This is a very common occurrence in not just the Honda Odyssey, but other Honda models as well. A new part can be anywhere from one to two thousand requiring dealer calibration. The heat from the sun, the location of the monocular camera and possible contribution from replaced non-OEM windshields may contribute to the overheating. With all safety devices disabled, the vehicle becomes unsafe to operate requiring immediate attention and dealer only service since a new device requires calibration.

Aug 26, 2024

There is a water leak in the body of the van (where the top and side are welded together). The water has caused damage to the electrical panel that controls the back door/liftgate. The water damage is also shorting out and causing electrical damage and the battery to die very often. I have noticed many complaints about this. I believe this should be a recall because it is a flaw in the making of the vehicle and nothing I could have done to prevent it.

Aug 13, 2024

the right sliding door has had intermittent malfunction for years. often, the door will not work with an automatic function and must be pulled open or closed manually which is nearly impossible to accomplish. most often the right sliding door malfunction notification appears when driving at highway speeds which is extremely unsafe. this has been inspected by the dealership and no fix or resolution was provided. recently, all of the ADAS systems are intermittently malfunctioning. they work about 1 out of every 5 times the vehicle turns on LKAS, Auto Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, are all affected. within the last week the internal camera system has been failing, audio stops working, and most importantly the rear hatch has been closing on its own while i am standing underneath it loading the trunk. this is also very unsafe, it atleast beeps to warn that it is closing but i sometimes barely have time to get out of the way. yesterday while driving in the highway, two warnings appeared simultaneously for “transmission system problem” and “blind spot notification system error”. the vehicle started again without the transmission system or blind spot error but i am very concerned about the degrading electrical system issues that i have been experiencing with this family oriented vehicle model.

Aug 6, 2024

Initial issue was that the power tailgate would not open at all. Took the vehicle to the dealership where they replaced the latch and the control unit that was completely fried. When I asked what could cause that, they said they didn't know. I already suspected water. Two days after picking the vehicle up from the dealership, the tailgate is now constantly opening and closing on its own. The only way to stop it is to turn off the vehicle and lock it. I searched online and found multiple posts from people with the exact same problem and almost all of them say it was water getting into the control unit. This poses an obvious safety concern since it could close on one of my kids. They would not be strong enough to stop it. I have reported the issue to Honda HQ and have recommended that the other people with the issue do the same.

Vehicle stalls when pulling out into traffic! Terrifying with my 6 kids and I'm immediately getting rid of this vehicle. Tried to have the fuel pump (current recall) replaced but Honda dealership has the vehicle for 6 DAYS! and still didn't have the part in. Upon dropping the vehicle off the tailgate lift would not work properly. This van is a load of garbage since they started using so many modules to control it! Extremely disappointed in Honda. They know all of these faulty parts and don't care enough to fix them for the safety of the consumer. Absolutely horrifying the direction of the automobile industry.

Tailgate malfunction due to water seeping through tailgate resulting in tailgate module to stop working.

Jul 11, 2024

The lane keep assist function via the monocam behind the windshield has failed causing an alert to show up a few minutes into driving that none of the systems related to it are functional. This appears to be a widespread problem amongst owners of the 2018 Odyssey. Additionally, Honda service centers are acting like this is a surprise to them but searching online will results many individuals with the same issue and then being charged 1300-2000 to fix it. Since the features are all safety related I assumed this was where I should submit this. Please let me know if this is not the case. See the honday odyssey forums for many people noting this problem... [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

During my recent recall repair by Ed Morse Honda in Riviera Beach, FL, I was advised that the rear tailgate sensor was reported as "wet". I do the maintenance myself, so I passed on a repair at that time by the dealer. Today, I researched what might have failed both online and with my Alldatadiy subscription, and accessed the part. Indeed, the Liftgate Control Module was molded and need of repair/ replace. However, I have grandchildren now, and during the removal - realized that in a water accident or other hazard where power is lost, there is NO WAY for rear passengers to exit the van by the rear tailgate. There is NO readily accessible latch or pull to open the tailgate from the inside, and NO key nor latch available from the outside for outside assistance. Additionally, if a child is in need of exiting the rear tailgate, there is NO child safety pull to allow them to exit. During my research on how to repair the vehicle, I saw that this is an ongoing issue for this model of Honda. I like my 2018 Honda Odyssey very much, it is my second Odyssey (the first was totaled in a T-bone accident, where both wife and daughter walked away), but I believe a recall is needed for the water issue affecting the Tailgate Control Board for the short term, and safety mechanisms added for the long term. Note: I have images, but the web site is NOT allowing uploads of any .jpg nor .pdf's at this time.

Power tailgate issue continues to happen. The module is somehow getting water damage and shorting out. This is the second time in a year that I have to replace the module. I can’t even manually open my trunk without having to climb through the car and undo the latch from the inside

There is water leaking through the seams of my Van from where it wasn't welded and sealed properly, My tailgate opened on the highway today while I had my 7 kids in the vehicle while it was pouring down rain. I could not get my tailgate to stay closed and keep getting a power tailgate problem on my dashboard. My tailgate will no longer stay latched it automatically opens on its own and refuses to stay shut. I looked at the control module and it was completely soaked in water and can see the water leaking from the top of my vehicle in between the exterior frame and the interior frame. There are holes in the welding. They're quoting me almost $1000 to fix the mistake they made while manufacturing the vehicle. I currently have a bungie chord keeping my tailgate shut but it continously beeps from where it's trying to open automatically. Definitely the scariest day of my life today. This needs to be dealt with ASAP. Today could have been much worse than it was. Honda needs to be held accountable before someone dies over this. There is no reason why my tailgate should have automatically opened on the highway doing 65mph with my 7 children in the car.

It is available for inspection on request. Lost blindspot info, lost use of turn indicators, rear door hatch malfunction, several warnings flash up while driving. I was in a busy area and didn't have a way to signal my movements, screen flashing warnings was terrifying, the van felt like it might turn off at any moment. Before the most recent incident, we had brought the van to Honda dealer for repair, for similar issues that occured at start-up, they found water in the power control unit in rear left area of van that caused corrosion and short-circuit. No body damage or alterations to vehicle. Replaced unit and after rainy weather problems recurred at start up and power down, then while driving, they tested the battery and it was almost dead (the battery was only 1 month old) replaced battery. Problems recurred and water found again. significant leak suspected but not found yet as the service department won't evaluate the seals, and told us it's a body-shop task. summary: intermittent left-side passenger door and rear hatch door malfunction, blind spot system warnings/loss, loss of turn indication, brake system warnings, other system warnings, difficulty starting the car and turning the car off, brand new battery drained while the car was parked and turned off. This manufacturing defect should be addressed by Honda, seals should not fail when exposed to regular conditions. Water should not enter the vehicle and short out an important component leading to several malfunctions that could cause loss of important systems and rear-door latch while driving.

Right Power door will not open or close with buttons or key fob. Must open/close manually. The doors are too hard to open manually for smaller children and even some adults making it a safety concern in case of emergency. This started intermittently a year ago and is now a constant. Tailgate has been opening and closing on its own, even when locked while parked as well as when the idle stop is activated while in drive. This is a concern that someone can get in the vehicle when unattended. It also shuts (and didn't stop) when someone was standing in the opening while removing something when it occurred. This started about a month ago. I was told to take it to a dealer and pay them to diagnose it. The dealers have a wait list and it's also not in my budget. These are real concerns and I feel Honda isn't taking ownership of the dangers.

A water leak above the tailgate control module flooded it to the point that it operated erratically and would raise and lower the tailgate randomly or not work at all. I plan on replacing the module myself but will retain the old one. Anytime the entry or exit points on a vehicle open randomly cannot be a safe condition. The dealer charges $130 for any inspection or diagnostic so no I am not paying them to tell me something is broken. The vehicle currently is showing a "Power Tailgate Problem" and a yellow box with "TAILGATE" in it on the dash display and is currently unresponsive to any input that would operate it: remote, tailgate buttons, and driver button. The power locking system is still operable. The Odyessy forums clearly describe multiple occurrences of this failure and the culprit is a water leak in rear window or rear section of roof trim strip on the drivers side. My module did have water in it when I opened the plastic case it is contained in. Cleaning and drying it restored operation for about 3 days. Thanks for your help!

Our Tailgate is having an issue that triggered a safety issue with my wife driving on a highway then 3 lights popped up and car entered a limp mode. transmission issue, emissions issue, tailgate issue since then car is behaving normally but the tailgate latch is opening when we start the van and not working from fob (unlock) or exterior tailgate button. I have read other owners having an issue where the tailgate control module is getting submerged by water causing the unit to short and cause these issues. A car entering limp mode on the highway poses a threat to our family and others, I hope to see a solution in the near future.

Mar 10, 2024

There is an electrical drain causing the battery to drain to the point where it will not start. Alternator was replaced, then the issue persisted. Most recent problem include the power tailgate opening on its own. Rear power tailgate issue. The rear tailgate will attempt to open while driving, but the warning sound chimes and alerts to the problem. If the vehicle is left unlocked the tailgate will open itself. The power tailgate button in the driver seat does not work. The close button on the bottom of the door is illuminated (has power) but will not close the door. The soft rubber button above the license plate will engage the motor to lift the tailgate, but not to close it. Others have filed complaints about a water leak impacting the rear control board and causing it to fail. Leak may be from the fin on the roof or related to the cracking and rotting seal on the bottom of the rear windshield.

Rear tail gate will not open even manually due to water getting inside of control module due to faulty design which causes water to go into the module and fry it would open and close randomly when it would rain now it has stopped working all together no indicator on dash anymore I guess this last rain finished it off terrible design very disappointing with Honda this is a major issue that needs to be fixed

Van started having a loud clicking sound and radio would not work. took it in for repair, they said they fixed it. Took it in again because it actually got worse and the screen was rebooting and showing a error. The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the messages "Emission System Problem", "Electrical Parking Problem", "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem", "Brake System Problem", "Brake hold System Problem", and "Power Steering System Problem" were displayed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the battery was in good condition; however, the vehicle failed to start 3 days later. The contact was able to jumpstart the battery with the assistance of AAA. The contact replaced the battery. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and several unknown dealers were contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

A defective/leaking seal in the rear of the vehicle area caused water damage and corrosion on the tailgate control unit. As a result of the control unit failure the blinkers and lights stopped working while driving. In addition rear tailgate does not open. Dealer confirmed the issue, fixed the seal and replaced control unit. Research shows this is a recurring problem on this model vehicle.

ADAS system is not working due to internal camera failure.

Feb 5, 2024

The vehicle had low voltage indications and electrical issues that would affect many of the electrical systems in the car (power doors, main entertainment system, etc). More concerning, the vehicle would shift into park while driving and then would shut off. This posed a serious hazard when driving quickly. Honda was unable to remedy the issue and could not come up with a definitive cause. Another recall with these same problem was issued for other VIN numbers of the same make, model, and manufacturing year. My VIN was not included in that recall. The recall needs to be expanded to include more VINs as this is an issue in 2018 Honda Odyssey vans and poses a risk to me and my family while driving in its current state. My transmission is now experiencing issues due to shifting into park while driving and needs to be replaced.

Dash displays error message "Power Tailgate Problem". Tailgate does not open AT ALL with either of the following methods- key fob, button on dash, or button on tailgate. It is stuck and poses a significant safety issue. What if we had a accident, all doors were stuck, and needed an exit out the back of the vehicle? The tailgate is totally inoperable and Honda needs to fix this issue as it is an extremely common issue and not very cheap to repair.

2018 Honda Odyssey motorized tailgate has completely stopped working. Will not open. Numerous accounts say this is due to water getting into the rear tailgate control module and have had tremendous amount of rain this week. Have not had it looked at by dealer yet but must be fixed. Warning message appeared twice on dash 10 minutes before the failure.

Jan 26, 2024

The power tailgate control module failed due to water leaking through holes in the seam. The power tailgate problem light came on when the issues began. I was unable to open the tailgate using the button by the driver's controls, the remote fob, or the exterior button on the tailgate. The only way to open the tailgate was the manual release on the interior tailgate. There was constant beeping while driving forward or in reverse. We removed the power tailgate control module, and there was obvious corrosion around the entire part. We applied seam sealer on the driver side roof rail and installed a new ptg control module. The new module began having similar issues approximately 2 weeks later. We removed it, and could see obvious corrosion beginning on one side of the ptg control module. We applied seam sealer above the rear tailgate window and attempted to clean the affected areas on the ptg control module in hopes that it will work again. The power function of the tailgate is not working, but the power tailgate problem light is not on and there is no beeping. I am now able to open the tailgate manually using the exterior button on the tailgate. Driver's control button, remote fob button, and button on the tailgate to close it do not work.

The vehicle has multiple warning lights and a recall was issued for the MOST connectors upon the initial problem which fixed it temporarily and now it continues to have multiple problems. It shuts off while I'm driving and the steering wheel locks up. It's as if the car is possessed the system screams at you, goes black, turns the music off and on. I have had it at the Honda twice and am taking it again in the morning. I'm afraid to drive my children in it.

Power Tailgate failure, from water leaking into the vehicle. The power tailgate would open and close on its own, even when driving down the road. This is a SERIOUS safety issue if you have children in the vehicle. First sign of failure was a message of tailgate problem on the information center of the dash. That is when the intermittent opening and closing began, as well as battery going dead. Took to Honda to be serviced(Walker Honda in Alexandria, Louisiana). Was informed that water did indeed leak into the van from someplace, they did not know from where. Was told van needed a new battery as well as a module replacement for the power tailgate and a Water test to see where the water was leaking in. Total cost of around $1600 Was then informed that the entire wiring harness might also need to be replaced because water corroded or damaged the contacts on the harness that affect MANY other parts of the van, including some safety systems. That was an estimated cost of $7000 but was told the technician could possibly just clean off the wiring harness contacts and try to drive it that way and see if it fixes the problem. Van has little over 130,000 miles on it and Power Tailgate is rarely used as we have no children and don't haul much, except groceries.

For the last 3 months the car will turn on by itself and drain the battery. Went to several mechanics that could not find a reason for this issue. This weekend, while I was driving on the road, the car stopped while driving on the highway. This happened 4 times risking my life, wife, and my children. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by other owners of this car on various forums. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer as they are trying to charged me thousands of dollars to review the issue. There were no warning lamps or signals on the car.

Tailgate controller issue. 2018 Honda Odyssey: A day after a day of rain, we went out shopping and stopped at a store. Getting out , we saw "Tailgate Controller Problem" message appear on the dashboard. I tried to open/close the tailgate but it just kept latching and unlatching. I was finally able to get it to remain closed by pushing on the tailgate. After heading to another store, saw a "high-beam problem" message, and another message, so we went home. At night, I noticed the interior ceiling lights going on and off. I went to start the van, and my key fob would not unlock the door. I used the emergency key in the fob and tried opening the drivers door...after 45 seconds of turning left and turning right, the windows rolled down about an inch, then the door unlocked. I started the van and moved it up in the driveway and turned it off, and checked a couple of times all night to see if the lights came back on. The next morning, I had to charge the battery because it was at 3Vs. I drove the van to make sure the alternator was working, and then saw messages: blinking "R" for reverse blinking "D" and no turn signals, and messages appeared: "Transmission Problem". "Keyless Start System Problem","Blind Spot Info System Problem".We dropped the van off at the dealer and it would not lock with the fob, and the center dashboard console (with the navigation menu)remained on with the engine off and door closed. Dealer ordered a Tailgate Controller. When we asked the person at the desk, what the issue was..."moisture got in". I told him there is a discussion on the internet about a (design) leak in the roof causing this issue. He said, the controller is in the tailgate not in the van. But I know its on the side panel. This situation is very dangerous because a week before we had traveled with the van,out of state, on the interstate, trying to get people to airports and if these messages had appeared then, we would have had a very harrowing experience. A message is still seen

The electrical system has some weird glitch where it will shut down all the displays and more. The nav display as well as the speedometer area will shut down and restart. I will receive warning lights that many systems like the lane Keeping Assistant and accident braking mitigation systems are offline. Sometimes it will kill the engine too. This is very disturbing and unsafe to happen when driving. It could cause an accident on its own and also negates the extra safety features like LKAS added to make the van safer to drive. The problem was assessed by Honda and they said they could not find an issue originally. There were no codes. Now I am getting more problems and warnings. The dash now tells me "Engine Management System Malfunction". Honda reset this since they could not find a service code. It came back within a week and then my power steering started messing up. It seemed to be when the system was overloaded by going into reverse and switching to the backup camera. The power steering would lurch and stutter. This is very concerning to go out while driving. The final straw is now my high-pressure fuel pump has gone out causing a loud noise under the hood. My vehicle only has 120,000 which I feel is not that old for a Honda. Honda has the van today and wants $1200 to swap out the fuel pump and now they say the "Power distribution module" is causing all the electrical problems which is another $700. My question is: Is this all connected to the same electrical issue? Note: I have a suspicion that the problems are worse when the car gets too much stimulus in the electrical system. Sometimes it seems like the sun at the right angle blinds the front cameras and the system freaks out. Also, changing to reverse and activating the backup camera tends to cause the problem. Possibly even adding devices with carplay could exacerbate it.

Oct 21, 2023

Unknown, I was driving and the vehicle completely died without warning. And then on several occasions I've been driving and it would say crash mitigation system problem. Where my guages would go out and throw my vehicle into neutral along with my steering wheel to lock up. I've had it looked at and nothing comes up in codes. Has a new battery on it and still continues to do the same things.I have notified the corporate office of Honda and they told me they have heard of these problems . And wanted me to take to a hinda dealer ship for them to do a diagnostic test which I've already done 2 times with nothing coming up .

Every time when it rains, the power tail gate fails showing beeping noise from the rear and on the screen and unable to lock the doors. Had to replace the power tail module couple of times so far and still problem persists. The Honda dealership mentioned there was a leak, repaired and replaced the module , inspite of the fix priblem still persists when it rains.

Oct 4, 2023

On several occasions (roughly 5 separate and unique incidents), the vehicle put itself into neutral (N) while driving. There are instances when the vehicle was in motion and others when it is at a stop. The screens in the dashboard cluster and in the center of the front dashboard go blank momentarily and the transmission changes from drive (D) to neutral (N) without any apparent cause or any warning whatsoever. The power steering is also resetting, causing the steering to momentarily become much more stiff and harder to turn. It’s currently at the dealer undergoing inspection and repair, but the fact that this is causing a safety issue that makes the vehicle undriveable while at any speed without warning is a serious safety issue.

Oct 2, 2023

This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues, culminating in the need for three batteries in a six year. Period. From day one there were electrical issues with the auto stop start and the car in one occasion the battery completely died. Honda was unable to identify the issue and electrical issues. Continue to happen. in the last 18 months I’ve had numerous occasions where this auto stop start would engage at a stoplight stop sign in the middle of busy traffic, but would not start back up. I took it in for service and they cannot re-create or identify the issue. This is very scary when it happens as I have been on start and go traffic on the interstate on busy intersections and the car will not move nor can it be restarted for 5 to 10 minutes. Honda offers no solution to this dangerous problem. After months of not being able to fix this. Identify a problem the car no longer moves into reverse consistently Honda recommends new transmission. After becoming frustrated with Honda and feeling unsafe with my family in this vehicle, I had to trade it in for a new vehicle as no solutions were offered to make me feel safe driving it or to get it repaired effectively or identify why it keeps needing new batteries and has electrical dysfunction since purchase

Honda Odyssy 2018- While slowing down and then trying to accelerate does not accelerate and stalls in the lane and requires pumping of accelerator pedal before gear is changed. some time when this happens you can heard grinding noise of gear change. Last time it happened it showed 'Transmission system Problem' and 'Blind Spot Info system Problem' on screen. This is after dealer has looked at the problem and I was told it happened when tech test drove also. Dealer had updated software but it did not fix the issue. This is a safety concern, as if you can not accelerate to maintain the speed of other cars in your lane, cars behind you can get into accident.

After closing the tailgate, the tailgate suddenly jerked open, striking the contact. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who was also unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 172,000.

The power tailgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L started opening and closing on its own, seemingly at random. The latch would not cinch and the gauge cluster reported an opening attempt while driving on the highway. This failure cascaded and ended up bringing every device on the B-CAN network down, including the instrument cluster, heated seats, power sliding doors, ADAS systems including FCW/LDW/LKA and various telltales and buttons on the dash. Upon disassembly of the interior to expose the affected controllers, I discovered that the power tailgate controller was full of water. There was enough water in it to cause arcing of the power and CAN terminals. I traced the ingress path upwards and discovered a crack in the seam sealer on the roof, underneath the left roof rack rail at the very rear of the vehicle. Water enters under the roof rail, drips down the door hinge, then drips down the body to the cup holder and directly into the controller. To remediate I had to replace the damaged controller and apply seam sealer underneath the roof rail at a cost of approximately $200. I called the local dealer to attempt to report this to Honda but was unable to find the appropriate person. Over a dozen people have reported this issue online and there are pictures of the issue. I posted pictures to one of the links referenced below and have additional pictures. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and not caused by age or use of the vehicle and there is strong evidence it affects a lot of people. The issue will be particularly prevalent when the vehicle is parked outside on a downward incline. I work in a related industry on embedded devices that must meet functional safety standards, and I believe an issue like this would lead to a mandatory safety recall. When the vehicle’s auto start-stop feature is active, the feature will malfunction causing the engine to not start properly. Instead, the vehicle stalls and must be restarted manually. However, there are many occasions when the vehicle does not start manually either. In these cases, it takes many attempts to restart the vehicle. While these events are happening, the vehicle displays an error message for the auto start-stop feature on the instrument cluster, and the instrument cluster will flicker on and off. The events often occur during the middle of an intersection and attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. It creates a very dangerous situation. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others because the issue occurs regularly, and the dealership has asked us to come back when the problem is occurring. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, there are other Honda vehicles (e.g., Honda Pilot) which have the exact same issue, and a recall has been issued for those vehicles but not the Honda Odyssey.

When idle stop is activated, car will often stall on attempt to restart. Car can then not be started for 5-10 seconds. If the car does not stall, it will often hesitate 2-3 seconds before the engine restarts, leading to multiple near-miss accidents on turns. Electrical warnings will often flash after idle stop, such as "sliding door problem," "collision mitigation malfuction," "anti-theft system malfunction," etc. Battery has been replaced twice with no other remedy offered while in or out of warranty.

While the van was in motion, the power tailgate unlocked and opened on its own. The dashboard displayed tailgate open warning message. I slowed down and the lock re-engaged to to close the tailgate. It happened again later that evening. Fortunately, I was within city limits, driving about 40 mph.

Jul 31, 2023

After rainfall water is leaking into the rear fuse box compartment located behind the 3rd row seats and causing the tailgate control module and other parts to fail. The tailgate does not have any power and cannot be opened or closed with the fob or the push buttons located in the tailgate or in the dashboard area. The tailgate cannot be locked as the latch does not engage and it can be very risky to drive the vehicle as the tailgate might come open while driving. There might be some opening on the roof of the vehicle from where water is leaking into the fuse compartment and causing this hazardous situation.

Jul 29, 2023

My car has stalled on multiple occasions when the auto-idle feature is engaged. A message on the dashboard flashes stating ‘collision mitigation system’ and then the car just stalls and the battery light comes on. Typically this requires turning the car off and turning back on to begin driving. Very scary and dangerous when in the middle of a busy road/traffic light/stop.

Water leaking in from roof or driver side windows into rear electronics at the fuse box and the tailgate control module. When control module was removed there was gross evidence of water saturation in the control module and multiple areas of corrosion, rust and fouling of electrical components causing battery to drain dead.

Vehicle was taken into Honda dealer due to trunk not opening and closing properly & receiving “Power Tailgate Failure” warning and rear entertainment system not working. After many hours, I was told the power tailgate control unit and floor wire harness would need replaced due to corosion from water damage ??? This was at 42,653 miles!! They couldn’t explain how the damage could have happened and Honda refused to do anything about fixing it.

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey has randomly failed to start three times. No warning no advance warning messages or alerts. These appeared once after being parked overnight and twice immediately after being driven a short distance. First time was in June of 2021, second time in May of 2023 and third time in June of 2023. When trying to start the vehicle either the dash would flash with unknown information before going blank or was blank and wouldn’t crank the starter motor. We replaced the battery after the third failure.

Jun 20, 2023

Rear hatch on our Odyssey EX-L started giving a "Power Tailgate Problem", and it would not open at all except by mechanically releasing the hatch from the emergency access panel. I replaced the rear hatch control module and the hatch could now again be opened from the outside as normal, but the power tailgate still did not function up and down, and requires manual lifting open and pushing closed. Upon inspection, the removed/malfunctioning control module appears to have failed due to water infiltration, meaning water has entered the inside of the vehicle and then shorted electrical components, potentially creating a fire hazard.

I have 2018 Odyssey EXL . on instrument display got message "Power Tailgate Issue". The tailgate can not open either by control button or manually. I have already had this issue 2 times. I sent it to dealer and been told the power tailgate control module was intruded by water. I replaced the control module, and after several months, the issue recovered. The power tailgate can not open and close will cause my trip in danger. I hope the honda can fix this issue for the customers free.

Most recently, this occurred while waiting in a car line of traffic and it took many different attempts to get the car engine back on - about 10 minutes before the engine could be started, resulting in myself and my children stuck on the road while we opened doors, the hood of the car, tried to start the car and turn it completely off. It was in a stuck position until it wasn't. that was the first time the vehicle wouldn't start after numerous attempts to start the engine. We have been told there is no way to fix this - only to manually turn the function off every time the car is started.

Vehicle has roughly 32,000 miles. KEY SAFETY ISSUES [with vehicle parked, engine off and doors closed] (1) vehicle randomly and without warning locks driver out (cannot open car with key fob by pressing unlock button, cannot open car manually by entering key into door). Had to call AAA on 4 different occasions to pry open door with specialty tools. After that, had to leave window fully open in order to ensure we would not get locked out. (2) when vehicle locks driver out it also sets off the alarm, turns the car on to idle, and turns on the radio (even if its off) thus draining the battery until its dead. Why this is a major safety issue? -- Scenarios I though of (1) child/toddler getting accidently locked into car with no way to open and AAA not readily available (2) getting locked out of your car in a remote location with no cell service (mountains, desert, etc) When this issue happened the dash screen would show an error of "Auto Engine Idle Stop System Problem". I took the van to Honda and they diagnosed the problem to be a faulty keyless access control unit. Fees to replace were +/- $1,100. Honda decline to provide any cost reduction or assistance stating that warranty for the part had expired.

Just bought the car used with 60240 mi at the end of March on a Friday. 30 minutes after leaving the dealership the Auto Idle Stop warning notice appeared on the dash stating this feature was unavailable. It would not engage when idle at a light and as a result, when the gas was pressed to accelerate the car would hesitate and jerk into gear. This happened the entire 1.5-hour ride home, whether for a short pause or longer pause. It was a bit scary because the car would hesitate to move and clearly there were cars behind me. At any point and time, someone could've rear-ended me thinking I was able to accelerate properly. About 1 hour into the ride the brake lights came on flashing red at the bottom of the dash the entire time and would not go out. I immediately called the dealership once I reached my destination to announce the problem. The following Monday I took it back for a look over. In their investigation, they found a tracker attached under the dash and assumed this was interfering with the transmission of messages for the Auto Idle stop to engage. The dealer claimed there were codes, but after removing this attachment the auto idle stop feature engaged and they cleared all the codes. To my surprise, after 4-5 hours of being there, I drove home to find as I neared by destination all error codes returned including the brake lights flashing. I immediately called the dealer again and complained. This time to not further inconvenience me with the back and forth, they came and picked up the car on a Thursday with the intent of troubleshooting it over the course of some days. They had the car from a Thursday to the next Friday for me to arrive after them saying it was good, to find it was still doing it. This time the codes were reviewed with me in the car and the issue was "it was unlearned". After the reset, it started working again. Four days later it's still happening. Engages when it feels like it which causes a rough drive and acceleration. Honda help!

Electrical issues with camera, screen & infotainment system. Terrible crackling noise coming from stereo system. Screen randomly goes black for prolonged periods of time. While in reverse and relying on camera….all of a sudden you do not have visibility. Screen will stay off as well as the music and randomly turn back on. Car has been in shop 5 plus times for this issue and several remedies tried…..nothing seems to work. Whatever remedies have been tried, problem is now worse and more frequent.

While driving multiple system failure- warning lights then failure of: blind spot alert, lane departure, back up camera, wipers, tailgate function. When able to stop, power locks did not function. Inability to access rear of car via sliding doors would pose serious risk if accident occurred due to system failure. Prior to all systems alert, tailgate warning light had been intermittently appearing for a few days. Dealer service center noted water leak from unsealed section between window and frame in back driver side panel that corroded body console module.

This issue been going on for a while now. I Have taking it to the dealer for issue. They said was the battery i replace the battery. Still doesn’t fix the issue. Last week we stuck on the hogging in traffic with my family of 5 including children. We came to a stop and it went into idle stop then it when i released brakes the engine didn’t turn back on tell me to shift in park in the middle of the highway. I could have been hit from the rear with this issue especially if you’re stuck in traffic. This issue has been going on a few times thinking it was because of a battery. I replaced my battery twice because that what Honda said is the issue .

The radio goes out on my van and the van shifts into neutral while I'm driving. This has been going on for months I've had it to the Honda dealership twice this last time thay said the only thing they could come up with is that the alternator is losing power but alternator is on back order until June and still no guarantee this will fix the problem since none of there test showed up anything other then they were able to get it to go into neutral for them while they were driving it.

I have a 2018 Honda odyssey 9 speed and I am well aware of the many issues people have been complaining of and I am experiencing many of those same issues. My number one issue is my acceleration. I need to step down all the way on the gas pedal to make the car move and once it does my rear tires spin because of the acceleration. I have also had many instances where my car will not accelerate fast enough while turning causing me to sometimes be stopped in on coming traffic. I have had my main screen turn off while driving but did not affect the car however and a handful where I will be stopped at a light and my car shifts to park. I have had the car brought into the dealer 3 times for these issues and all that was done software updates. I did have one instance where my check engine light was on and they replaced the fuel injectors which did not solve the problem.

On 2 occasions, the "Auto Engine Idle Stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. The car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. Eventually the car reset itself and I was able to restart the car. After this happened the first time the battery in the vehicle was replaced. The second time this happened the battery was only 2 years old. The manufacturer should fix this problem with a recall.

GOODMORNING, I bought my car honda Odyssey 2018 model, on August 20th, 2018, from Honda of Clearlake, in League City, TX, the day they opened new location, this car has been giving us trouble since then. when under warranty the sunroof motor became faulty. I agree that they repaired it but took more than a week to get repaired. The car has less than 30000 miles now, last year November when I was driving car started showing up multiple warning lights, and tail gate not closing and locking and took the car dealer service center and without proper multi point inspection they ruled out its poor battery and changed it. Within a week again the same problem started appearing, took the car to dealer service center and took almost more than week to do inspection and stated that, there is a faulty weld and leak on back tail gate hinges in car and water is seeping into electrical system which is on driver side rear in between plastic trim and main body. this caused a short circuit and multiple warning lights turning on. electrical system and carpets were damaged, and they recommended to change whole harness and electrical components which will be more than $6000.00 After a week they stated that it has a faulty caulk on roof were water seeping through, Honda of clear lake service advisor [XXX] agreed that he have come across multiple cars (3 or 4) in same dealer ship with same problems. nobody knows how many dealers service centers had same problem. This is clearly manufacturing defect and Honda corporate don't want to make this issue a recall. they agreed to replace components, but we have to pay the labor which we agreed, but it's been more than a month which they can't repair and give back our car. now I think this leak issue and the issue, I mentioned earlier (faulty sunroof motor) is somehow related. I would request you to probe an enquiry into this issue which, can be an electrical and fire hazard and rule out to be a recall from Honda side. Thanking you INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a collision mitigation system message would flash on the instrument panel without incident. Recently, the contact stated that while his wife was driving the vehicle, the warning message repeatedly flashed on the screen before the entire instrument panel went blank. The contact called multiple dealers about the failure but had not yet schedule an appointment for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Both the dashboard and the computer shut down randomly, different warning signs pop up intermittently and the wheel locks up for a short time. It happens while driving at unpredictable times. It happened on the highway at the speed of 65 mph. and the vehicle is temporarily is not under driver’s control. Yes, I took the vehicle for repair 3 times. Yes, the certified car dealership had identified different issues but none of them had fixed the problem. No, not by insurance or the manufacturer. No, no warning signs prior. First it happened in July, 2022

Auto idle system engaged when the car was stopped waiting for a train to pass last night. When I took my foot off the brake to move forward, the car completely went dead. No engine start up after auto idle, no electrical system available for emergency flasher lights. No response from the van at all. This put us at considerable safety risk when we could not process through traffic, at night, on a dark country road. A kind passerby attempted to jump start the car for us and while the electrical system came back on momentarily, the engine would not turn over. After five attempts to jump start the van, we stopped trying. There was zero response from the van after that. We purchased this vehicle brand new in December of 2017. It has had electrical issues ever since the day we bought it. We have reported this to our Honda dealer several times over the course of the past 4+ years. Initially, the auto idle never worked. Then the sliding doors wouldn't shut all the way, reliably. They continue to cause issues and won't close all the way, without popping back open, about 60% of the time. The radio and entertainment center has malfunctioned. The collision warning has malfunctioned and alerts at times when there is nothing in the way of the vehicle. It has been several electrical issues after another. We have had multiple new batteries installed over the past 4+ years. Last night was the absolute greatest risk to our family's safety. The vehicle has experienced this "black out"/stall another time in the past year, but was temporary and came back on after a full restart of the engine. Last night, however, there was no hope to restart. The van was completely seized up and a tow truck had to drag it onto its flatbed truck, assuredly damaging our tires and transmission, potentially. We will have to have the van towed to the Honda dealer Monday morning (this incident happened last night, Saturday Oct 1, 2022.). Now we are without our primary family vehicle.

I have an 2018 Odyssey Touring that apparently has a problem with the auto-idle stop while driving at slow speeds, many times (2 to 6 times a day) for a few weeks now. It starts with a weird noise (like a loud record scratch) through the speakers, then engine turns off, dash and radio shuts off too and immediately everything turns on again. Car don’t go to park, it stays on drive mode. Sometimes I was able to read different messages on the dashboard or radio about “Collition mitigation system” “anti theft system” and sometimes “loading” appears on the radio screen. This messages disappear quickly. Before this problems happened, the DVD rear screen stopped working (it’s completely black) while the DVD can be heard playing on the speakers. Don’t know if the two issues are related. I'm worried this can cause the car to stop at higher speeds and cause an accident, my wife usually drives this car with the kids with her. I took the car to a Honda dealership, they run diagnostic tests and it doesn't show anything. I left the car at the dealership, they will try to replicate the problem to understand what is happening.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey elite regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. There have been several close calls when I have made a left turn/ right turn into traffic and the vehicle hesitates for a few seconds.

It is very common for the vehicle model to experience water intrusion toward the back lift gate because of rain. This can cause electric problems with the vehicle that can result in property damage or death. Airbags may not deploy due to water damage as well. Theses vehicles should be recalled as soon as possible. Most owner are not aware of this issue because they park vans in a garage. Please investigate this matter and issue a recall

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated during acceleration with the transmission message displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a transmission specialist who related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V299000 (Power Train, Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

Vehicle keeps turning on accessory mode uncommanded. Resulting in draining battery. Battery is then recharged and process starts over again. Took vehicle to Honda dealership for diagnosis. Dealership diagnosed tailgate control module. Disconnected all connections to that module and problem persists. Constant discharge and recharge of battery presents a fire hazard. A automotive/mechanical engineer evaluated the problem, suggested it was the body control module and highly recommended I not park my vehicle in my attached garage until the problem is resolved.

My wife was waiting outside in our vehicle with our kids while I was running an errand. She stated that she went to move the car and as she put it in reverse, the car rolled forward and automatically engaged itself into park. Then she stated that the van also started sputtering and shaking. She shut it off and got our kids out of the car. When I got back to the car, she was explaining it to me. I then started to troubleshoot by checking for blown fuses, bad battery connections and etc. Everything appeared as it should be. I turned the car on to the accessory mode, and it was throwing almost every code possible if not all of them. It showed emissions system, abs systems, hill start and several others. With the car still in accessory mode, I noticed the radiator fans were not coming on as they should have. Also the engine bay was hot, as in the air filter housing was hot enough that you could not keep your hand on it. After letting it cool down, I inspected the battery terminals again for any loose connections and could not find anything. We ended up having to get a tow truck to tow it to a shop to get it worked on. The van has 73k miles on it. The vehicle would not go into gear for us. It was also sputtering when running. It sounds like an electrical issue.

Anytime the temperature is below freezing (32F), the infotainment system fails to boot. This prevents us from properly defrosting windows for visibility, or using the rear-view camera while backing, or accessing many of the other features of the vehicle that are controlled by the infotainment unit. The lack of a rear-view camera is especially concerning on a van with otherwise poor rearward visibility through mirrors. Many people have car seats in their mini-van which further obstructs rearward visibility without the camera. We have visited the dealer numerous times for a fix for this issue, and there either is none, or Honda's dealers arent interested in fixing it. Essentially, we are without most of the vehicles advanced features whenever it is cold outside.

In lower gears, there is hesitation when accelerating which causes driver to unknowing lurch forward. Sometimes peeling out. In stop and go traffic, the van does not accelerate for a few seconds when gas pedal is pressed. There is sometimes a clunking sound which causes van to lurch when accelerating at a lower gear which feels like someone has hit my van from behind. It is a safety issue because I don’t know if the van will accelerate or not right away when I press the gas pedal.

After leasing our car for less than 1 year - the power liftgate malfunctioned (which coincidentally there had been a recall in the past on our honda odyssey 2009 for appears to be the exact same issue.) It seems to be exactly the same thing happening again with the 2018 model we have now. So that the trunk won't open by itself. So for the past few years we had too manually lift the trunk and it's extremely heavy to lift and slow and can bang you in the head because it does not lift very high. If this wasn't bad enough a month ago the electrical power/fuse to even accomplish what I just explained electrically shorted for no reasonable explanation. So that my husband has to quite literally climb through the two rows of seats take the plastic off permanently on the manual/nonelectric trunk release from the inside of the car in order to get our trunk door to open at all. The outside of the car electrical button has no electricity running in it at all. This is terrible for a family of 5 children. There haven't been any recalls on this and I'm sure it'll be quite expensive to replace. Please look into this issue for us please. Thank you kindly. Please see below the recall in 2009 that should also be for the 2018 model as well. HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 ODYSSEY VEHICLES, THE GAS-FILLED STRUTS THAT HELP TO RAISE AND SUPPORT THE LIFTGATE OF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A POWER LIFTGATE SYSTEM MAY BE PRONE TO EARLY LIFE FAILURES DUE TO A MANUFACTURING FLAW. Car started showing all kind of errors before the milleage waranty went out, one day when car was started, we saw the following errors scroll through the dash: Road Departure mitigation system problem Power Steering System EPS problem VSA Vehicle stability assist problem Hill start assist problem Brake system error Brake Hold system problem Brake system problem I have taken the car in for these issues 3 times at a local dealership and nothing was found as a reason for the issue, they just "rolled" the errors to clear them and that seems to work for a few months. When these errors happen the car is not fully responsive and becomes a safety hazard in my view, not having all the safety features available while driving the car in this error mode is dangerous for me and my family these will happen every once in a while, and the most recent happening was today 11/19/2021.

1. The battery died after sitting still for 2.5 hours on the inserstate. (A tractor trailer had jackknifed stalling traffic). The van had been turned off after 20 mins. When traffic started moving again, the van would not start. The battery was too drained to even be jumped. People offered to help push it to the emergency lane but there was no way to get it into neutral to move it, because it has gear shifter buttons which were also disabled. 2. It was 10 pm and on a pitch black interstate in the pouring rain. It sat in the moving lane of traffic, which had picked back up to normal interstate speed, for about 25 mins until cops got there to park behind it with their lights on waiting for a tow truck. Before the cops got there, cars, tractor trailers, etc. were coming up on it rather suddenly b/c they couldn’t see it in the lane of traffic, they were dodging it left and right at full speeds. 3. The vehicle was towed that night and then the following day to our local honda dealer where they couldn’t determine why the battery had been drained, and confirmed it was too dead to have even been jumped. We never got an answer as to why it died. My husband had me tell him about the evening and basically re-enacted it. We believe it was the fact that even after the van was turned off after 20 mins of sitting there, that the driver door had not been opened once and that it dying had something to do with the anti theft system. We reported these findings to our local service dept. 4. There were no warnings that it had died because it had been turned off for over 2 hours, the driver door had never been opened. This happened in September, 2018. It was a very scary event and I didn’t want to keep the vehicle knowing there is no way to get it into neutral when it’s that dead. (The service dept confirmed that and when I asked a salesman about it, he was puzzled, also confirmed that he does not know of a way to get it into neutral once dead.)

Vehicle leaking water on backside and is causing electric issues. One of the issue is rear lift gate malfunctioning. The hatching opening on its own etc which is a safety risk. The dealer repaired this under warranty and they issue came back again almost four times so far. Now dealer is saying the issue is due to leaking water from top which they mentioned after vehicle went out of warranty and asking to contact body shop to identify the leak. The honda dealer not fixing the issue now. Please check if you received similiar issue and help with me regarding the same.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT MY CAR ALARM WENT OFF FOR NO REASON AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT OFF BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STUCK IN A LOOP OF POWERING ON AND OFF. AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH SUGGESTED A FAILURE OF ENGINE AUTO IDLE. I PUSHED THE ENGINE AUTO IDLE OVERRIDE BUTTON AND MANAGED TO TURN CAR OFF. NEXT MORNING I JUMP STARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW ERRANDS. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. THIS TIME PUSHING THE ENGINE AUTO IDLE OVERRIDE DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE ALARM, BUT COULD NOT BREAK THE LOOP OF THE CAR POWERING ON AND OFF. I HAD TO LET THE BATTERY DIE. I TRIED JUMPING IT AGAIN BUT IT NOW WON'T POWER ON LONG ENOUGH TO TRY TO START. HONDA TOLD ME I WAS ON MY OWN TO GET IT TOWED IN. TOW TRUCK CAME BUT THERE IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION ' THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY SHIFT THIS VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO POWER THE CAR ON AND USE THE TRANSMISSION PUSH BUTTONS TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. HONDA IS REFUSING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE GETTING THE CAR IN TO BE LOOKED AT. MY WINDSHIELD SHATTERED FROM THE HEAT. THIS CAR WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, 37,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS BOUGHT AND SERVICE LOS REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE CAR WOULD JUST COMBUST OUT OF THE BLUE. CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA WITH NO AVAIL. AND REFUSAL OF ANY INVESTIGATION. THE ENTIRE INCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON OUR SECURITY CAMERA.

FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT MY CAR THE BRAKES HAVE SQUEALED WHEN APPLYING THEM AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE GAS TOOK AN EXTENDED TIME TO WORK. ONCE I WAS TRYING TO SWITCH LANES AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE VAN DIDN'T GO ANY FASTER AND I ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE VAN SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD. EVERYTHING THE VAN SHIFTS AROUND 20-30 MPH THE ENTIRE VEHICLE JOLTS BACK AND FORTH. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THE DEALERS WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HONDA'S CORPORATE NUMBER BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, FLUIDS AND FUEL INJECTORS BUT ALL THE ISSUES STILL REMAIN. I HAVE ALSO HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH THE SOUND SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY BUT HAVE NOT MENTIONED THAT TO THE DEALERSHIP OR HONDA CORPORATE.

ELECTRICAL ISSUES: AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE FOR 2 ' 5 MINUTES, ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM, REAR ENTERTAINMENT SCREEN AND PARKING SENSORS STOP WORKING. THE SPEAKERS MAKE LOUD POPPING SOUND THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY EVEN WHEN YOU TRY TO POWER OFF RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF WAS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SOUND. ONCE RESTARTED, EVERYTHING WOULD WORK FOR 2 ' 5 MINUTES AND THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN. THE SPEAKERS POPPING WERE VERY LOUD AND DISTRACTING, SCREEN WITH BACKUP CAMERA AND PARKING SENSORS STOPPED WORKING MAKING THE VEHICLE NOT DRIVABLE.

THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE ABOUT DAY 30 OF OWNING THE CAR. IT WILL CUT OUT, SAY CHECK TUNER, THE SPEAKERS CRACKLE. IT IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. ALSO I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE SAYING THE VEHICLE'S "HEATED SEAT SYSTEM PROBLEM". MY BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT FUNCTION OR CANNOT BE VIEWED DUE TO ERROR MESSAGES, SYSTEM FREEZING, CAMERA ERRORS WHICH IS UNSAFE. THE RADIO IS EFFECTED AND THE HVAC CONTROLS, TOO. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING, WHEN STARTING THE CAR AS WELL. I HAVE REAR WINDOWS THAT WILL NOT ROLL UP, WHICH IS UNSAFE. WIPERS ALSO DO NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. I HAVE 10 PLUS VIDEOS FROM OVER THE LAST 18 MONTHS WHERE THE DOOR REFUSED TO CLOSE AND BOUNCE BACK OPEN MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE TO SWITCH THE DOOR TO MANUAL TO GET IT TO CLOSE, WE ALSO GET A ANTI THEFT ERROR AT LEAST 1 TIME A WEEK AND HONDA HAS NO IDEA ON THAT ERROR EITHER. BEGINNING AT 10,077 MILES MY VEHICLE BEGAN EXPERIENCING DEFECT SYMPTOMS WITH FAILURES OF ITS CENTRAL CONTROL PANEL TOUCH SCREEN/DISPLAY. MULTIPLE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES ARE CONTROLLED AND DISPLAYED THROUGH THE TOUCH SCREEN. MANY FAILURES HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED WITH VIDEO AND IN THE PRESENCE OF QUALIFIED HONDA SERVICE PERSONNEL. THIS CENTRAL TOUCH SCREEN ALSO SERVES AS A CONTROLLER FOR RADIO-MEDIA CONNECTIVITY, PHONE CALLS, NAVIGATION, AND IT IS THE BACKUP CAMERA DISPLAY. FAILURE SYMPTOMS INCLUDED ISSUES WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION: SLOW NAVIGATION SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, DELAYED BACKUP CAMERA IMAGES WHEN TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, DISPLAY "FREEZING", WARNING MESSAGES APPEARING ON DISPLAY, TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY WHICH STAYS ON ALL NIGHT AND DRAINS BATTERY AFTER VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN, AND CAMERA FAILURE MESSAGES. THE BACKUP CAMERA IS SOMETIMES COMPLETELY NONFUNCTIONAL WHEN REVERSING THE VEHICLE. TWO HONDA DEALERS HAVE VERIFIED THAT THE COMPLETELY NONFUNCTIONAL BACKUP CAMERA ISSUE EXISTS. EACH CONTROL/DISPLAY OCCURRENCE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION REPRESENTS A DISTRACTION OF DRIVER ATTENTION. THE TOUCH SCREEN/DISPLAY/CENTRAL CONTROLLER/AUDIO UNIT HAS NOW HAD 11 REPAIR VISITS. I HAVE SUBSTANTIAL VIDEO AND PRINTED DOCUMENTATION. AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE THAT SUCH PROBLEMS EXIST, AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY, FURTHER, AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY DENIES THAT FAILED BACKUP CAMERA PERFORMANCE IS A SAFETY MATTER. *BF 'PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'*JB

ON 30 DEC 2018 AS MY FAMILY AND I DROVE THROUGH OSCEOLA COUNTY, FLORIDA, OUR ODYSSEY DISPLAYED AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT READ, "SOME DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEMS CANNOT OPERATE: RADAR OBSTRUCTED." THE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 70 DEG F AND IT WAS MODERATELY FOGGY. THE MESSAGE CLEARED ITSELF AFTER 20-30 MINUTES AND THE DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEMS CAME BACK ONLINE. WE DID NOT SEE ANY SUCH ERROR FOR THE REST OF OUR TRIP. AT THE END OF OUR TRIP, ON 3 JAN 2019, WHEN MY FAMILY AND I WERE JUST OUTSIDE CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO BRAKE QUITE AGGRESSIVELY WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT, AS IF IT WERE AVOIDING A COLLISION. IT OCCURRED NEAR MILE MARKER 115 ON I-64 WESTBOUND, ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE AT DUSK ON DRY PAVEMENT. WE WERE PERHAPS 1000-1200 FT FROM THE EXIT ITSELF, WELL BEYOND THE RANGE OF THE 'EXTRA LONG' SETTING ON THE ACC AT 70 MPH. THE ONLY CARS IN FRONT OF US WERE ALREADY AT THE EXIT AND DID NOT APPEAR TO BE UNDERGOING ANY UNUSUAL MANEUVERS. THIS OFF-RAMP IS PARTICULARLY LONG AT THIS EXIT SO I WOULD NOT ANTICIPATE THAT THOSE VEHICLES JUST ENTERING THE RAMP WERE DECELERATING RAPIDLY. I WAS USING ACC AND LKAS, AS I HAD DURING MOST OF OUR TRIP. WHEN THE VAN WAS BRAKING, I INSTINCTIVELY DEPRESSED THE THROTTLE PEDAL TO TRY TO MAINTAIN SPEED. THAT RESULTED IN THE ENGINE REVVING AND NO CHANGE TO THE HARD BRAKING. I DISENGAGED THE ACC USING THE 'CANCEL' BUTTON AND THAT APPEARED TO END THE HARD BRAKING (I MAY HAVE BRIEFLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME BUT CANNOT BE SURE). I WILL ALSO ESTIMATE THAT WE WENT FROM AROUND 70 MPH TO AROUND 30-40 MPH IN THOSE 2-3 SECONDS. THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS EXTERNAL REASON FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKING MANEUVER INSTIGATED BY THE HONDA'S ONBOARD SYSTEM. THIS PRESENTED A SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL HAZARD. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IMMEDIATELY BEHIND US OR WE WOULD HAVE RUN A VERY HIGH RISK OF REAR COLLISION. *JS

I'VE HAD MY 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING FOR 2 MONTHS; IT HAS 2600 MILES. MY VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO PARK WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE! THE CAR MADE A POPCORN/GRAVEL SLAMMING AGAINST THE CAR SOUND WHILE FELT AS THOUGH THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE VAN WAS TRYING TO SEPARATE FROM THE TOP!! TALK ABOUT FRIGHTENING! IT BRIEFLY FLASHED ""COLLISION MITIGATION"-SOMETHING,, BUT IT WAS JUST ON THE SCREEN FOR A HALF-SECOND. I PULIED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PRESSED THE DRIVE BUTTON. IT HAPPENED AGAIN MAYBE 10 MINUTES LATER ON A BUSY ROAD TRAVELING AT 45MPH. I ARRIVED AT MY FIRST DESTINATION, RESEARCHED HOW TO TURN OFF THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, AND CONTINUED TO MY SECOND DESTINATION. IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY TO THAT DESTINATION, FLASHING THE SAME WARNING SO QUICKLY THAT I COULDN'T READ IT, SAME NOISE, VIBRATION. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I BOUGHT IT. THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. "BEST EDUCATED GUESSED" THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE PROBLEM, THOUGH I NEVER RECEIVED A LOW BATTERY WARNING FROM MY VEHICLE, AND THEY PERFORMED A BATTERY RESET PROCEDURE. THE DEALERSHIP EXPECTS ME TO DRIVE MY FAMILY HOME IN THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT CHANGING OR EVEN INSPECTING THE TRANSMISSION OR PARKING PAWL, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE LOAD POPCORN/GRAVEL NOISE. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA AND A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED.

I CALLED A LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND HE TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT AROUND FOR A WEEK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED; IE: IF THE MESSAGE WENT AWAY OR SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THE CAR. AFTER A WEEK I CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN TO BE CHECKED. THEY GAVE ME A LOANER CAR TO USE. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3-4 DAYS HE CALLED AND SAID THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF RODENT CHEWING ON THE COATING OF THE WIRES. HE SAID THE CAUSE WAS WIRE HARNESS CHEWED CAUSING SHORT IN SHIELDED WIRE. HE SAID HE NEEDED TO KEEP THE CAR ANOTHER COUPLE OF DAYS TO CHECK ALL THE WIRES. HE CALLED ME BACK A COUPLE DAYS LATER AND SAID THAT THE WHOLE SYSTEM WAS AFFECTED AND NEEDED TO GET A NEW HARNESS. APPARENTLY THE COATING ON THE WIRES WAS SOY BASED. I DID SOME CHECKING AND THERE WERE SEVERAL LAW SUITS AGAINST SEVERAL AUTO MANUFACTURERS IN 2014 AND 2015 ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OF RODENTS EATING THE COATINGS ON THE WIRES. I HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS BEFORE GETTING MY CAR BACK AS THE HARNESS WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE TOTAL COST OF THIS WAS $2619. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET $500 AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID THE REST. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY HONDA AS THEY HAVE KNOWN THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND YET THEY STILL WERE PUTTING IN WIRING COATED WITH SOY BASED PRODUCT.

ON MARCH 24, MY 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY SHIFTED INTO PARK AT 65 MPH ON I-95 IN PHILADELPHIA. THE HONDA REP, OLIVER (A HONDA EMPLOYEE), EXPLAINED TO MY HUSBAND THAT WHEN THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR CONNECTED TO THE COLLUSION AVOIDANCE SENSOR DISCONNECTS, A COMPUTER ASSUMES THE CAR IS OFF AND THAT FORCES THE CAR INTO PARK REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED IT IS GOING. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE ENTERTAINMENT PANEL SCREEN WENT BLANK AND WHILE IT WAS REBOOTING, I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE CAR, NO GAS, NO BRAKE, STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. WHEN IT REBOOT, IT WAS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE LIKE METAL HITTING METAL. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHLY WITH MY THREE CHILDREN AGES 8 MONTHS, 2 YEARS AND 4 YEARS OLD IN THE CAR. THE HONDA REP BELIEVES THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE WAY THE POWER CABLE IS CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY. HE EXPLAIN THAT THIS CAUSED THE SENSORS TO DISCONNECT INTERMITTENTLY. THE REP, OLIVER, BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON THE DEALERSHIP DURING THEIR REPAIR OF THE CAR FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS IS INCORRECT. THE CAR FRONT SENSOR HAVE BEEN LOSING CONNECTION TO THE COMPUTER SINCE WE TOOK IT HOME BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP TOUCHED THE BATTERY. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR'S ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT I WOULD NOT BRING UP, BUT OLIVER'S DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR COMPUTER SYSTEM MAKES IT RELEVANT. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR HAS 6 COMPUTER CONNECTED WITH ETHERNET CABLES. MUCH OF THE WORK FOR THE BASIC FUNCTION OF THE CAR AND TRANSMISSION IS DONE BY THE COMPUTER THAT ALSO RUNS THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM, THE BIG SCREEN COMMON IN THE FRONT PANEL OF CARS. OLIVER EXPLAINED WHEN ONE COMPUTER GETS BOGGED DOWN, IT TAKES THE ENTIRE SYSTEM DOWN. OUR CAR AND A LOT OF OTHER 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY HAVE A KNOWN FLAW THAT HONDA HAS NOT FIXED IN WELL OVER A YEAR. ON JUNE 3RD MY 4 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS SECURELY RESTRAINED IN HER BRITAX CLIGHTIGHT 5 POINT HARNESS IN THE SEAT BEHIND THE DRIVER IN THE MIDDLE ROW. WE WERE PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AFTER A GROCERY TRIP AND I WAS GETTING READY TO RETURN HOME AFTER SHOPPING. I PUT HER IN THE CAR AND CLOSED THE DOOR OF THE VAN. SHE TRIED STOPPING THE DOOR WITH HER FOOT BUT HER FOOT DIDN'T REACH THE PRESSURE SENSOR ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR (THE THIN BLACK TUBING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE) SO THE DOOR CLOSED ON HER FOOT CAUSING BRUISING.I TALKED TO 3 HONDA DEALERS AND I HAVE A COMPLAINT FILED WITH HONDA. WHEN HONDA RETURNED MY CALL I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT HIS JOB WAS TO INFORM ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAS LIMITATIONS AND THAT THE LAST THREE INCHES OF THE DOOR IS THE "POINT OF NO RETURN" WHERE THE DOOR NEEDS MOMENTUM TO LOCK. THE LAST EXPERIENCE WAS AT THE HONDA STORE WHERE A SALESMAN SHOWED ME THE 2019 HONDA. I DESCRIBED THE INCIDENT TO HIM AND ASKED HIM TO TRY STOPPING THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE SENSOR ON THE OUTSIDE. HE FIRST TOUCHED THE OUTSIDE SENSOR. I HAD HIM RETRY STOPPING THE DOOR ONLY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR WHERE MY DAUGHTERS FOOT WAS. HE SAID THE "POINT OF NO RETURN" ARGUMENT FROM HONDA OVER THE PHONE WASN'T TRUE BECAUSE THE PRESSURE SENSOR STOPPED THE DOOR WHEN HE TOUCHED IT AN INCH FROM THE DOOR. HE TOLD ME HE THOUGHT IT WAS ODD BECAUSE THE TAILGATE RETRACTS WHEN TOUCHED. HE TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO FIND OUT WHO I SHOULD CONTACT BUT NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. NO ONE CAN TELL ME HOW MUCH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO MY DAUGHTERS FOOT THAT CAUSED THE SERVE BRUISING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE STATIONARY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN PROMPTED. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, ALL OF THE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN WHEN PROMPTED BY THE KEY FOB. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE MITIGATION ENGAGED WITH A VISUAL AND AUDIO ALARM; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLE AROUND. FURTHERMORE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS DID NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED AND THE CROSS-TRAFFIC MONITOR MALFUNCTIONED AND HAD TO BE TURNED OFF. DEL RAY HONDA (2500 SOUTH FEDERAL HIGHWAY, DEL RAY BEACH, FL) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE SERIES OF FAILURES. THE BATTERY AND THE TUNERS WERE REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 636. *TT INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TT

I AM OLDER AND I BELIEVE THE TURN SIGNAL VOLUME IS TOO LOW ESPECIALLY DUE TO ROAD NOISE. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR I DRIVE WHERE IT IS DIFFICULT TO HESR THE TURN SIGNALS. HONDA CANNOT FIX THE VOLUME..

THE CENTER CONSOLE, WHICH IS THE MONITOR THAT UTILIZES GPS NAVIGATION, REAR VIEW CAMERA DISPLAY, CONTROLS HEAT/AC, VOLUME CONTROL, ETC. HAS CONTINUED TO FAIL SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE (7/15/17). THE MONITOR SHUTS DOWN AT RANDOM TIMES, FOR UNIDENTIFIED REASONS, LEAVING THE DRIVER, DISTRACTED AND ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE. THE SHUT DOWN CAN OCCUR WHILE IN THE VAN IS MOVING OR STATIONARY. NAVIGATION SHUTS DOWN WHILE THE DRIVER IS IN ROUTE TO A LOCATION CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DISTRACTION. WHEN THE SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN THE HEAT/AC ALSO SHUT DOWN FORCING THE DRIVER TO MANUALLY ADJUST, WHICH WHILE DRIVING IS AN UNNECESSARY DISTRACTION. HONDA WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN AUGUST 2017. WE BROUGHT OUR VAN IN TO THE SHOP TWICE AND NO RESOLUTION WAS FOUND. WE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AMERICA (VOICE MAILS ARE RETAINED AS RECORD). AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF NO RESOLUTION, HONDA AMERICAN TOLD US OUR CASE WAS BEING CLOSED BECAUSE THE COMPANY CONTINUED TO HAVE NO RESOLUTION. 7 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE THE CENTER CONSOLE/MONITOR CONTINUES TO RANDOMLY FAIL. SOMETIMES THE MONITOR GOES BLACK, SOME FEATURES WORK WHILE OTHERS STOP (FOR EXAMPLE THE RADIO MAY WORK WHILE THE SCREEN IS BLACK). SOMETIMES THE MONITOR GOES BLUE AND EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN. PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF THESE OCCURRENCES WERE SUBMITTED TO HONDA VIA EMAIL. THE PROMOTED FEATURES BY HONDA AMERICA LEAD THE BUYER TO BELIEVE THERE IS ADDED SAFETY IN THIS VAN. THE OPPOSITE HAS TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE. THESE FAILURES CAUSE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS FOR THE DRIVER AND THE YOUNG FAMILIES UTILIZING THE VAN.

1. ) FUEL EFFICIENCY IS NOT AS REPORTED; IT IS SEVERAL MPGS LOWER UNDER ALL CONDITIONS (HIGHWAY/CITY). 2.) SAFETY SENSOR TO ALERT FOR PEDESTRIANS ON SIDES/FRONT DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. EVEN SERVICE REP AT DEALERSHIP SAID SHE HAS HAD OTHER REPORTS OF IT NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE SENSORS/SYSTEM MAY NEED TO BE 'RESET'. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS TO THINK THESE SYSTEMS CAN FAIL WITHOUT ANY WARNING MESSAGE OR NOTICE. CAR WAS AT A STOP AND AS IT STARTED MOVING FORWARD, A PEDESTRIAN CAME FROM THE RIGHT FRONT AND WAS NEARLY HIT. THERE WERE NO ADVANCE WARNINGS, AUDIO/VISUAL TO ALERT THE DRIVER. ALSO AFTER CHECKING WITH A FRIEND, WE COULD NOT TRIGGER THE ALERT WALKING FROM RIGHT TO LEFT (FROM SIDE TO FRONT) OF VEHICLE. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THANKFULLY, BUT PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THESE SYSTEMS FAIL AND NEED TO BE CHECKED TO NOTIFY OF ONCOMING PEDESTRIANS/BIKERS/VEHICLES. I BOUGHT THIS EXPENSIVE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAD 'SENSORS' AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FAR SAFER ACCORDING TO SALES GUY. NOT THE CASE. THE PUBLIC IS BEING MISLED.

ON SATURDAY, 1/27/18 AT 9:17AM MOUNTAIN TIME WE WERE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD FOLLOWING A SILVER SUV. AS WE APPROACH AN INTERSECTION WITH A GREEN LIGHT, THE SUV IN FRONT OF US TURNED ON THEIR BLINKER TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. WE WERE FOLLOWING BEHIND AT A SAFE DISTANCE. THE SUV SLOWED DOWN CONSIDERABLY TO MAKE THE TURN, BUT WE REMAINED BEHIND AT A SAFE DISTANCE AS THE SUV MADE THE TURN. THE AUTOMATIC COLLISION DETECTION SYSTEM ON OUR HONDA ODYSSEY FLASHED A WARNING, AS I'VE SEEN BEFORE, AND THE WARNING WAS APPROPRIATE GIVEN THE SITUATION. THE SUV COMPLETED ITS TURN AND I REAPPLIED THE GAS IN THE INTERSECTION. AS I DID SO, THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY BRAKED, VERY HARD, CAUSING US TO ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE INTERSECTION. I ASSUME THAT WE WERE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPX 15 MILES PER HOUR AS WE ENTERED THE INTERSECTION. WE WERE ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND US (WHO HONKED AT US, AND WITH GOOD REASON). THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING TO ENGAGE IN THIS SITUATION. FURTHERMORE, THE BRAKING WOULD HAVE HAPPENED MUCH TOO LATE TO AVOID A COLLISION HAD ONE BEEN IMMINENT. THE FEELING OF LOSING CONTROL OF DRIVING YOUR OWN VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY UNSETTLING. WHILE I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING FEATURE, THIS EVENT IS INCREDIBLY CONCERNING. NO ONE WAS HURT AND NOTHING WAS DAMAGED LUCKILY. BUT, THIS EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT.

THE VAN WILL STALL AFTER STOPPING. WHILE TURNING RIGHT, I STOP AT A STOP SIGN, WAITING AND WHEN IT'S SAFE, GO TO START TO TURN, PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VAN WILL STALL. IT WILL TAKE ME RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR AND PUSHING IT AGAIN TO GET IT TO MOVE AGAIN. THIS IS TERRIFIYING. THIS HAS HAPPENED UPWARDS OF 20 PLUS TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VAN IN AUGUST 2017.

OUR 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE HAS A FEATURE CALLED IDLE STOP. THE FEATURE HAS MANY CRITERIA THAT MUST BE MET BEFORE IT WILL ACTIVATE. IT SHOULD JUST TURN OFF THE ENGINE WHEN THE CRITERIA HAVE BEEN MET IN AN EFFORT TO CONSERVE FUEL IN LIEU OF IDLING. WE ARE SEEING A RANDOM ISSUE WHEN THIS FEATURE ACTIVATES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF THE CAR ENTIRELY AND PLACE IT IN PARK. WE MUST MANUALLY START OUR VEHICLE AGAIN THEN PLACE IT BACK IN DRIVE TO PROCEED. WE'VE HAD IT HAPPEN THREE TIMES. ALL HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT STOP LIGHTS FOLLOWING A COMPLETE STOP. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE AT A STOP LIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE HIGHWAY. I'M CONCERNED WE WILL BE REAR ENDED DUE TO OUR VEHICLE BEING DISABLED AT AN INTERSECTION. IT'S CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE FIFTH TIME (MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE) TO HOPEFULLY FIND A SOLUTION.

HEADLIGHTS: WHEN THE VAN WAS PURCHASED I DISCOVERED SEVERAL DAYS LATER THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. DISCOVERED THE LIGHTS WAS NOT PLUGGED IN. DECEMBER 18 & 27 THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM DISABLED. THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP VAN AND SAID THEY REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A CONNECTION THAT WAS NOT SECURELY CLIPPED TOGETHER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I HAD BEEN PARKED AND AWAY FROM THE VAN FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR ON BOTH OCCASIONS. WHEN I STARTED IT TO LEAVE THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS ON THE SCREEN. IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP BOTH TIMES.

WHEN THE FOB IS STORED NEAR THE VEHICLE IT CREATES A POWER DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. WE WERE CAMPING FOR THE WEEKEND AND THE FOB WAS GENERALLY NEAR THE VEHICLE (IN THE CAMPER). WHEN WE LEFT THE CAMPGROUND AT THE END OF THE WEEKEND, THE WARNING INDICATOR SAID NOT TO USE ANY AUXILIARY POWER. I AM NOT SURE HOW THE VEHICLE USES THE BATTERY VS THE ENGINE OR ALTERNATOR TO POWER THE INTERIOR OUTLETS, USB CHARGING PORTS, AND OTHER THINGS LIKE THE DVD/RES SYSTEM, BUT THE PREVIOUS POWER OUTAGE IN THE VEHICLE HAS US ON HIGH ALERT AND WE FEEL IT IS RELEVANT AS IT INDICATES A PATTERN OF POWER FAILURE AND INSUFFICIENT BATTERY OR POWER SUPPLY TO THE VEHICLE RELATIVE TO THE VOLTAGE IT PULLS WITH THE "BELLS AND WHISTLES" ON THE CAR. THE WARNING REMAINED FOR THE ENTIRE 3 HOUR DRIVE HOME.

HORN ON 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY (ELITE & TOURING TRIM LEVELS) FOR SURE. HORN IS A SINGLE TONE LOW NOTE AND IS BARELY NOTICEABLE AND WOEFULLY INADEQUATE. YESTERDAY WHILE TRAVELING ON A NOT VERY BUSY COUNTRY ROAD, I ACTIVATED HORN AT ABOUT A DOZEN BUZZARDS FEASTING ON SOME ROADKILL IN THE ROADWAY AND HAD TO COME TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THEY MOVED. THEY WERE MORE INTIMIDATED BY PRESENCE OF MY VEHICLE THAN HORN BLARING AT THEM. SOUNDS STUPID, I KNOW, BUT IT EMPHASIZES PROBLEM. HORN IS ALMOST ENTIRELY UNNOTICEABLE AND DOES NOT GET OR ATTRACT ATTENTION, WHICH MAKES IT A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. IT DOES NOT "COMMAND" YOUR ATTENTION AND IS NOT EASILY HEARD OVER AMBIENT NOISES. HORN ON MY PREVIOUS 2013 ODYSSEY WAS A DUAL TONE HORN AND MUCH LOUDER AND DREW ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THE FACTORY INSTALLED HORN MEETS FEDERAL STANDARDS FOR DECIBEL LEVEL. NOT THAT IT MATTERS BUT IT JUST SOUNDS PITIFUL COMING FROM AN ALMOST $50,000 FAIRLY LARGE VEHICLE. HONDA HAS TRULY DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS SAFETY ITEM AND I BELIEVE IT IS ENOUGH OF A CONCERN TO REPLACE THIS LOUSY HORN WITH A MUCH LOUDER DUAL TONE HORN AT MY OWN EXPENSE. SOMEONE THERE SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE COMES INTO PLAY AT ANY TIME THE HORN IS NEEDED TO ATTRACT ATTENTION OR ALERT SOMEONE TO ANY NUMBER OF SITUATIONS AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED.

NEW 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE (10-SPEED TRANSMISSION) DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND MANY ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED ABOUT STEERING SYSTEM, BRAKE SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM AND OTHER FAILURES. CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS DOWNSHIFTING. HIGH RPMS FOR SPEEDS WHERE IT SHOULD BE LOWER. SENT TO DEALER FOR 1 WEEK. DEALER REPLACED POWERTRAIN COMMAND MODULE AND O2 SENSOR. MESSAGES DISAPPEARED. 1 WEEK AFTER THAT, TRANSMISSION STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS DOWNSHIFTING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. PARKED VAN AND CENTER CONSOLE SCREEN WENT BLACK THEN HAD BROKEN LINES OF PIXELS IN ONE OR TWO PLACES.

WE WERE DRIVING ON I75 NORTH ON SAT JUNE 10. WE WERE RIGHT BEFORE THE ATLANTA MACON SPLIT. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE DVD PLAYER TURNED OFF. THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT DARK. THERE WAS NO POWER TO ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE TURNED BACK ON IN "PARK" CREATING A HORRIBLE POPPING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP (WILLETT HONDA) IN MORROW GA LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND CANNOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE POWER FAILURE. THEY HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO RETURN IT TO US. THE CASE NUMBER AT HONDA IS 06075564. JERRY HOGAN AT BOMMARITO HONDA IN HAZELWOOD MO IS THE SALES MANAGER AND HE WANTS US TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN SPITE OF THE OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT. HONDA CANNOT DETECT THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE.
