A rattle noise when initially pressing the accelerator pedal. When starting a vehicle, I had to press the start button multiple times. Kept stalling. All the lights on a dashboard started flashing. Saying check engine! We took it to the dealership and they confirmed engine problems. This was their diagnosis: Confirmed concern - found noise coming from engine internally due to CYL NO 2 rod knocking - oil heavily contaminated w/metal particles - recommend engine replacement! Mileage is only 93805.
Engine damage from connecting rod bearing wear. The dealer inspected the vehicle. The dealer confirmed that the damage was caused by a connecting rod bearing. The engine had to be replaced. I was told by the dealer that the VIN did not fall within the recall range. Therefore, I had to pay for the engine replacement myself. The engine damage was the same as the NHTSA ID Number: 23V751000 recall.
My vehicle repeatedly and unexpectedly shifts into neutral while in Drive, causing a sudden loss of power in traffic. This has happened multiple times without any input from me and has nearly caused a crash.
At highway speed on cruise control the engine went out. Van only has 118,000 miles on it.
Summary: Engine seized due to internal bearing failure with metal shavings found in oil filter. Full Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden engine failure around 116,500 miles. The dealer confirmed the engine is seized and showed significant metal shavings in the oil filter and pan. I have performed all maintenance according to Honda’s recommended schedule using the correct oil and filters. Honda corporate denied assistance based solely on mileage, even though this issue matches symptoms described in current NHTSA investigation PE25-001 (connecting rod bearing failure in Honda 3.5L V6 engines). There were no prior warnings other than a brief check-engine light and rough running before the engine locked up. The vehicle was in motion at the time and could have caused a hazardous stall, serious injury, or death. Given that Honda has issued recalls for similar rod bearing defects in other model years (2015–2020) and this failure mode presents a clear safety risk (loss of power, engine seizure), I request NHTSA include my case in its investigation and compel Honda to extend recall coverage to 2018 Odyssey owners. I can provide dealer diagnostic reports, photos of the oil filter debris, and all maintenance records if needed.
Recently had the fuel pump recall completed. Within days had intermittent dash emissions light come on then go away. Then a few weeks later, while driving, my odyssey put itself into N and I coasted to a stop. It would not allow me to put the car into P or anything. I had to put the emergency brake on in order to not roll forward. The van at that point would not shift into any gear. It was towed to dealership and I was given the following 2K dollar repair needs. PROBLEM. ADVISE. [Other]: TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) AND TRANSMISSION SUB-HARNESS Needs replaced.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "Engine Management System Failure" was displayed on the instrument panel. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that there was a failure with the engine and the transmission. The dealer was then notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the engine or the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Short Summary (for “Briefly Describe the Problem”) Sudden catastrophic engine failure — engine threw a rod at ~85,000 miles despite proper maintenance and fluid levels. Detailed Description (for “Provide Details of the Incident”) While driving, the vehicle began making a loud noise similar to a helicopter taking off. I immediately took it to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine had “thrown a rod,” requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 90,000 miles, has been regularly serviced per manufacturer recommendations, and all fluids were at proper levels at the time of failure. There were no warning lights or prior signs of mechanical issues. My mechanic and I contacted Honda to determine if NHTSA Recall 23V-751 applied to my vehicle; Honda confirmed it did not. Despite this, the symptoms appear consistent with known defects covered by that recall. Honda has declined to provide assistance or repair. The sudden and complete engine failure under normal driving conditions, despite proper maintenance, suggests a potential manufacturing or design defect that poses a serious safety risk.
I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey, with 66,855 miles. I maintain my vehicle with regularity at my Honda dealership. On [XXX], I was driving home from Las Vegas, NV to Pasadena, CA, when near the state line at Primm, NV, I started hear sounds from my engine and it started losing power. I had to pull over and then had my van towed to a dealership in Las Vegas, NV. The van is available for inspection. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer where i paid for a diagnosis to be performed. The engine light did turn on prior to me noticing the engine problem and a low oil light came on later. My 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX]) experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a spun connecting rod bearing in Cylinder 4. While driving, the engine suddenly began making a loud knocking/tapping noise. I immediately drove the vehicle to the Honda dealer, and as I was pulling into the service bay, the engine completely seized. The dealer confirmed that the engine suffered a spun bearing in Cylinder 4, with severe crankshaft and connecting rod damage. The failed parts and metal debris in the oil system are available for inspection if requested. This failure occurred without any prior warning lights, messages, or check engine indicators. There was no advance notice other than the sudden onset of knocking just before failure. The defect caused loss of engine power and risk of stalling in traffic, which could have easily resulted in a crash or fire. This type of failure is consistent with Honda Recall 23V-751, which covers connecting rod bearing defects caused by crankshaft machining errors, and also matches the ongoing NHTSA investigation into premature rod bearing failures in Honda Odyssey and other models. However, my VIN is currently excluded from the recall. I request that NHTSA review this case as potential evidence that the recall should be expanded to include additional Odyssey vehicles. My Van has only 110,000 miles on it. Yesterday I was driving my family home from a sports event my wife myself and my four kids. I got a flashing check engine light and was able to pull over, but it was an unsafe area on the side of the interstate. After sitting there for a while. we were able to get the vehicle to Honda. Honda is telling me that it is bad rod bearings. But that my vehicle falls outside of the recall that is already issued for bad rod bearings in a van that is the same year as mine. This rod bearing issue put myself and my kids in an unsafe position.
I have maintained 2018 Honda Odyssey regularly, getting it serviced when or before it was due. A month ago (at 90K) miles, we started to hear a noise in the engine. I took it to Honda and they said that I need an entirely new (rebuilt) engine. I did see there was a safety recall report 23V-751 regarding crank pins that were produced out of specification. This did cover some 2018 Honda engines, but my VIN was not one of them. Is there any possibility that this deffect could have effected other Honda engines of the same year? My engine should not be failing at 7 years and 90k miles. Currently the vehicle is not being driven until we figure out the best course of action.
The throttle can loose power at stop and then suddenly engine picks up the throttle which not normal and this is not maintenance issue as service station and Honda does not confirm the behavior a defect or a problem. This is very concerning.
The engine stalled while driving the 2018 Honda Odyssey van on the freeway. It happened while cruising on the freeway. Engine suddenly locked out/stalled after a loud 'thug' sound. The situation posed a high safety risk to the occupants. Luckily no vehicular accident occurred. The dealer checked it out and confirmed it is an engine problem. Their recommendation is to change the engine and charged the cost to the owner. Dealer said the problem is not covered by recall. Dealer will not specify the engine problem unless the engine is opened for inspection. There were no warning lamps and messages of the problem prior to the failure.
Engine has been running very rough the last 20k miles, and East Coast Honda in Surfside Beach, SC noted engine bearing wear prior to the rough engine performance during a service visit in May 2023. In June-July 2025 driving on [XXX] driving between Washington D.C. and Surfside Beach, SC, we went to pass and the engine cut RPM's drastically and went into 'limp mode' nearly causing an accident with the sudden decrease in speed. We have asked American Honda Customer Service [800-999-1009] to provide an engine evaluation but they have declined and have stated our VIN is not included in the rod bearing recall/TSB. We did mentioned about the further investigation for 2018 Honda Odyssey's but was advised any action we take would not be compensated since the vehicle is out of warranty by date and mileage (73,000 miles). Several people have told me that they hear a banging or thudding heavy sound coming my 2018 odyssey engine. The sound frequency increases as the engine rpm’s increase. I have seen many reports that state that this symptom could lead to a total engine failure which makes the car unsafe and is caused by incorrectly machined crank shafts (oversized). I called Honda and was told there is no recall at the time ( 8/23/25). In my opinion there should be a recalled. There was not warnings presented. Another failure occurred when mice ate the fuel injector wiring. This caused the engine to malfunction . The cause of this failure I have been told was caused by Honda using wire with a soy based insulation which mice eat.
While driving vehicle, check engine light began to flash. Vehicle was moved safely to side of road and turn off. Vehicle was allowed to sit for more then five minutes and started again. no check engine light or other indicators were illuminated. Vehicle was driven another 60 miles when suddenly multiple warnings appeared with a solid check engine light. Vehicle was moved to a safe location and parked. Vehicle was transported to a Honda dealership the following day and was discovered to have metal in the engine oil due to connecting rod bearing failures with grooves worn in the crankshaft.
Vehicle has a vibrating shake when you go about 26 to 40 miles per hour like it does not know on what gear to be me I took the car multiple times to the dealership, and after charging me hundreds of dollars they had the face to say it is what it is. That the design of the car. I even called the corporate and no one really cared. I am always scarred that engine or transmission will fail and cause an accident. On the last trip, as I was stuck in traffic, stop and go was hard on this condition as car wants to think on what gear to be.
There is a recall on this engine, same year, same make and model, but not my VIN number, same problem as the recall. Honda NHTSA campaign 23V751000 On [XXX] my husband and I were driving from our home in Scottsdale, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. About one hour from Las Vegas a yellow light came on the dash. I immediately pulled off the highway and looked up what the light meant. The manual said to continue to nearest service location and add oil. I restarted the car and there was a very loud clanking sound and a warning of Emissions System Failure came on. I turned the engine off, called AAA and had the vehicle towed to AAA Las Vegas. In the late afternoon of [XXX] they advised us that the car needed a new engine. Also troubling is that Right Honda did not fully evaluate the engine, but charged $180. They relied on the AAA report and wanted to sell me a used engine, one year warranty, but could not tell me about the engine, other than mileage because it "was on a pallet." 1. Report from AAA 2. While driving on the highway at speed, without warning or any dash check lights we heard a loud pop from the front of the car followed by white smoke. The engine seized, lost all power, and the along with it the brake system shutdown so the car became uncontrollable on a busy highway. The car was towed to a local honda dealership and is currently being looked at. The vehicle was recently inspected at a honda service center where there was no indication of any engine issues. There were no check engine lights untill the engine seized.
Rod knock diagnosed and confirmed by dealership July 15, 2025. Van is currently at dealership and is available for inspection. I have paused work to allow Honda (case 15705425) and now this team the opportunity to diagnose and inspect first hand. Inspection and first hand visuals have only been completed by certified Honda dealerships. All warnings and my concerns are documented in our ROs with Honda dealerships. When any light or reminder came on, I immediately took the van to Honda for service. Safety: slow starts and sluggish acceleration. Noise that was not normal. Out to eat 30 minutes away from home July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Dealership thought initially battery but then kept van overnight and nod rock confirmed. Also repaired back suspension. Additional details: Problem has been reproduced and confirmed. Have been experiencing slow start, van not driving properly. Our family went out to lunch July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Waited handful of minutes and then started. Immediately took to dealership next day. Honda dealerships have done all servicing and repairs on this van. (I was told there are 55 repair totaling $22k for your research purposes.) Honda notified me July 29, 2025 that they will NOT offer any assistance and/or goodwill because of the age and mileage of the van. Escalating case 15705425 up Honda chain - we have been very loyal to Honda. As of today, July 31, 2025: Van sits at dealership; has been there since July 14, 2025. I have been advised not to drive the van, esp on the highway. I want to keep the van and want to drive it for many more years. Took very good care of it and followed all of Hondas recommendations for servicing. Just put brand new tires front suspension (March 2025) and rear suspension (July 2025) on it as well. Appreciate your investigation. I’m working diligently to do the right thing and allow the proper people time to investigate the van before any work begins on the engine.
We do not own the vehicle anymore, but I just learned of recalls for this issue and wanted to make sure I submitted this as our lives were significantly affected. In July 2023, on the way home from a trip, we began to hear knocking in the engine and shortly after the check engine light began flashing. We got to the closest mechanic, and they suspected an issue with rods due to metal filings in oil. We had it towed 2 hrs to the closet Honda dealership. Garcia Honda in Albuquerque, NM. After days in a hotel and the dealership making the repairs they thought it was, we were told it was ready to go, they just needed to do a test drive. On the test drive, the engine lights come on again, and on closer inspection, they too heard knocking, and diagnosed engine failure due to rod issues and told us we needed a full engine replacement. We were still 9 hours from home and had missed work for a few days, and being dejected and overwhelmed that we still did not have our car to get home, we made the snap decision to purchase a new car there and “trade in” the odyssey for the bare minimum. We mentioned to someone today that we had a Honda with engine failure, and they brought this recall to our attention. After researching, I wanted to make sure to get this complaint failed, to hopefully help others going through what we did.
High flow fuel pump failure. Discussed at length with Honda repair shop
I bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey new. When the recall for the fuel pump came out, I had it completed on the emergency basis because it said if you had been experiencing the engine cutting out, to call and get it completed soon. I had had issues with the engine cutting out. Recently, I noticed a loud engine rumbling and rough noise during idling and acceleration. I took it to a Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing high-pressure fuel pump that required immediate replacement. There were no warning lights. The most frustrating part is that so many other 2018 Odyssey owners are reporting the exact same issue. It’s all over forums and Reddit — people with Odysseys from around this year are dealing with premature high-pressure fuel pump failures. This is clearly not an isolated case — it's a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge. While Honda recalled the low-pressure fuel pump, they’ve ignored the high-pressure pump — even though it presents serious drivability and safety concerns. I am being forced to pay $1,775 out-of-pocket at a Honda dealership to replace this failed part. I’m urging NHTSA to investigate this pattern and hold Honda accountable. This is not normal wear and tear — it’s a systemic failure that deserves a recall and reimbursement for affected owners.
While driving Oct-Nov 2023 I noticed a rod knocking sound in the engine and made an appointment with Jones Honda, Lancaster PA for inspection in Dec 2023. While driving to my base in Horsham, PA on [XXX] the engine seized and shut down leaving me stranded with my family. We had it towed to Reedman Toll Honda, Downingtown PA and it was determined by the Honda technicians that it was the same issue that affected thousands of other makes/models of the same year. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline, and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the connecting rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, damaging the engine. A damaged engine may run improperly or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury. The technicians verified this is the same issue and we opened a claim with American Honda. American Honda claims that our VIN was not affected and that the technicians do not have the authority to claim it is the same issue and refused to assist. We have service records to indicate the vehicle was maintained, oil and filter changes, other recalls, etc. There is no reason a five year old engine, at the time, should have died without it being a manufacturing issue. This issue put my family at risk and the safety of others. The engine was maintained and verified by Honda certified technicians that it is a manufacturing issue that caused this. We have been talking to American Honda for over a year and half now and they finally closed our claim about a month ago, May 2025, with no resolution. Check engine light came on while driving and engine making rattling noise. Stopped vehicle and restarted with difficulty starting and loss of engine power. Towed to nearest Honda dealer and diagnosed with cylinder 3 rod bearing damage. Engine replaced under Honda extended warrenty with used engine per warrenty company preference. Called Honda customer service to report the incident. They confirmed my VIN was not included on the recall for vehicles of the same year with similar issues. They confirmed over the phone that they would file a NHTSA report on my behalf, but I have not seen the report on this website.

The Auto Idle Stop system causes the engine to stall or fail to restart after being stopped. The error that comes on sometimes says "Collision Mitigation System Problem" on the dashboard, or sometimes "Transmission Problem. Apply Parking Brake When Parked", but either way it happens when I release the brake to drive again after a stop when the Auto Idle Stop comes on. To fix, I'll have to turn off the car and turn it back on.
I bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L with around 80,000 miles. Not long after, I noticed a loud engine vibration and rough noise during idling and acceleration. I took it to a Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing high-pressure fuel pump that required immediate replacement. There were no warning lights or messages — just a sudden failure. The most frustrating part is that so many other 2018 Odyssey owners are reporting the exact same issue. It’s all over forums and Reddit — people with Odysseys from around this year are dealing with premature high-pressure fuel pump failures, often between 70,000–90,000 miles. This is clearly not an isolated case — it's a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge. While Honda recalled the low-pressure fuel pump, they’ve ignored the high-pressure pump — even though it presents serious drivability and safety concerns. I was forced to pay $1,273 out-of-pocket at a Honda dealership to replace this failed part. I’m urging NHTSA to investigate this pattern and hold Honda accountable. This is not normal wear and tear — it’s a systemic failure that deserves a recall and reimbursement for affected owners.

There is a recall on other 18 model year vans for the rod bearing failure. This happened to me on my van and it has had regular oil changes and has around 139000 miles on it. This could have been catastrophic for the ones around me if I was driving on the interstate and the bearing gave out and hurt my family due to the engine seizing. The vehicle has not yet been inspected due to this just happening. I am not the only one with this model year having this issue and my vin not being covered by the existing recall. There were no warnings prior to the issue. Oil was always clean and changed on time. This vehicle has a good history report and records.
Automatic Idle Stop function causes car to stall in the middle of roadways. Idle is initiated when car comes to a complete stop at intersections, traffic lights, etc. Instead of rolling back on, engine stalls and brake seizes up, causing us to block traffic in the middle of roadways, intersections, traffic lights, etc. Car does not restart when power button is pushed. Only solution that has worked is to completely turn car off, open driver door and pretend to be ending trip by getting out, closing the door, walking away so car locks, waiting 30 seconds, then reapproaching the car and starting over from the beginning. This obviously causes major issues in the middle of roadways. On one occasion, no solutions worked, the brake pedal completely seized, and the battery had to be jumpstarted, despite the fact that it was a fairly new and undamaged battery. Problem persists even after changing battery.
Engine shut down driving on [XXX] in Colorado just past [XXX] (XXX). Had to pull over and car towed to shop that found engine would not start, locked and could not rotate by hand. They suspect timing may have jumped causing major internal damage to engine, possibly bent valves. Hole found in side of engine block thought to be from cap or other component breaking off. Honda has issued a recall for the 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles and certain Acura, Pilot, and Ridgeline vehicles due to a manufacturing error on the connecting rod bearing in the engine, which can damage the engine. Might also be in service bulletin 24-003. This recall, identified as #23V751000, was announced on November 12, 2023. MY VIN is not currently covered by this recall yet I am experiencing the exact same symptoms. I have 6 children that a transport in the vehicle daily and we are moving from Minnesota to Georgia soon. I cannot afford to pay for the repairs of this manufacturer defect out of pocket. Local Honda dealership estimates over $10,000 for this repair! I am now going to an automotive service center to see if they have a more affordable solution. It isn't looking good. I am still driving this vehicle, but the knocking coming from the engine compartment is getting louder and louder and I fear the engine could seize while driving on the road with my children in the vehicle. I also reported this to Honda Corporate on March 28, 2025.
The car has stalling problems and low power problem (changed 3 batteries in 5 years), took to dealership first time and they could not confirmed what's wrong. The problem became worse and stalled a few times, took to local shop and code p2638 torque management feedback signal came back, indicating problem with transmission or TCU. Then, it was noted that there's a NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:19V-299, specifically "Low voltage situations resulting from loose battery terminal connection(s) or a degraded battery could cause the Transmission Control Unit to reboot and shift the transmission to Park". The recall was on 2018-19 Honda Odyssey, however, my car's VIN is not included, therefore it is not covered. Contacted Honda corporate, they are saying since VIN is not part of the recall, it is not covered. The year, the model and the problem are exactly matches what's in the recall but Honda refuse to cover it or giving good will discount.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that an abnormal sound was coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spun rod bearing had fractured, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while diving at 30 MPH around a bend, the Forward Collision Avoidance warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an unknown part was greased. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

On this 2018 Honda Odyssey, at 93000 miles, an abnormal noise started to occur under acceleration. Dealer diagnostic indicated the noise is coming from the bottom end of the engine, likely from the rod bearings. The dealer indicated that this specific VIN number is not included in the current Honda recall, however is exhibiting same symptoms.
My 2018 family van purchased brand new. Exclusively serviced at dealer. Immaculately maintained records kept. Driving 70 mph on toll road while driving to dealer for service, car lost power and had to be towed remainder of the way. 100k service done at dealer, 40k miles later car had to be towed back to dealer due to broken rods. Honda says my vin# not effected yet car is inoperable for exact issue with open recall effecting rods. Recall states cars effected produced 2015-2020. Honda offered for us to pay $10k for new engine and they would cover remaining $4k. We do not believe we should get stuck with larger portion of payment when Honda has a known issue with part. Research on line states many more cars affected than the 250,000 initial recall. We appreciate NHTSA’s 2nd probe into this issue.
There is a major safety issue that has happened a few times now. As I come to a stop, or come out of a stop, the engine stutters and completely shuts off. All electronics stop too. Immediately there is a message flashing “right sliding door problem.” I have to put my foot on the brake and restart the engine to get going again. This recently happened as the red light turned green, and a car almost slammed into me from behind.
I took my 2018 Honda Odyssey to the dealership for a fuel pump recall repair. The next day, the engine warning light turned on, and I heard a loud abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump.I scheduled an immediate service appointment. The dealer charged me $230 for a diagnostic but claimed no fault or error code was found. They turned off the warning light without explaining why it was triggered. The abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump persisted, and the dealer recommended replacing the high-pressure fuel pump for $1,942.78 while denying any connection to the recall repair. Component/System That Failed: High-Pressure Fuel Pump Engine Management System How Was Safety Put at Risk? A fuel system failure can cause engine stalling, leading to sudden loss of power while driving and an increased risk of a crash. Has the Problem Been Confirmed by a Dealer? Yes. The dealership acknowledged an abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump but denied any connection to the recall. They only reported a DCA-8000 code, which is not a standard fuel system error code. Has the Vehicle Been Inspected by the Manufacturer? Yes. The dealership inspected the vehicle but refused to take responsibility. Honda Corporate was also contacted, but they denied warranty coverage. Any Warning Lamps or Symptoms Before the Failure? No prior issues before the recall repair. The engine warning light turned on the next day, and the abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump began immediately after. Why This Needs to Be Investigated: The issue began right after the recall service, suggesting a possible defect. The dealer charged me $230 but failed to explain the warning light activation. If other vehicles experience this, it may indicate a recall defect. A fuel system failure can create serious safety risks for drivers and passengers. NHTSA must investigate whether the recall service contributed to high-pressure fuel pump failures, as this could pose a significant safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was then steered over to the side of the road and restarted; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact observed a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the control rod had fractured, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

2018 Honda Odyssey engine failure due to a 'spun' connecting rod bearing. This is a known issue with this particular make and model and should be considered in the recall for these vehicles.
Emission error code which is part of recalls due to Fuel pump and suddenly check Egin light came on and vehicle couldn't shift from Park Mode to Drive Mode. We took the vehicle to Dealer ship and they mentioned that transmission failure where vehicle just two weeks ago at the dealership for another repair and inspection report didn't specify anything about the transmission.
The vehicle has recently and suddenly developed a loud engine knocking sound which sounds like an engine bottom-end knock (crankshaft or connecting rod). The sound is dependent upon engine RPM and is most noticeable at low RPM and when the engine is warm. The knocking sound is severe for the first 1-2 seconds on cold engine start, until oil pressure is developed. There are two known incidents believed to be caused by this issue: 1. While driving on a public highway with a 75 MPH speed limit, the engine knock became severe and the check engine light began flashing. The car would not accelerate, and once speed was reduced it would not accelerate at all and "limped" home at much-reduced speed. Prevailing traffic had to take action to avoid colliding from behind. 2. While driving up a very slight incline on a public highway with a 65 MPH speed limit, the engine knock became severe and the check engine light began flashing. The engine was unable to produce power and struggled to climb the hill at around 33 MPH with prevailing traffic coming up quickly and swerving to avoid colliding. The vehicle "limped" home again. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center specializing in Honda and Acura vehicles, and confirmed that the knocking sound does indeed sound like a connecting rod and referred me to Honda service bulletin 23-097. I called American Honda to inquire as to whether my vehicle's VIN qualifies for the associated recall, and they said the vehicle does NOT qualify, and that it was a very narrow range of VINs which do qualify. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance, only the independent service center who did NOT open the engine bottom end for inspection, only listened and did non-invasive troubleshooting before referring me to Honda. Please add this to the Office of Defects Investigation's investigation RQ24013

Did not control speed sometime up and down engine.
The engine failed without prior indication. The dealer says the engine is destroyed and needs to be replaced. Once the engine stopped working the vehicle would not go into neutral and was immovable preventing the vehicle from being moved to a safe location. The dash had a message that said the engine must be running to shift to neutral but the engine was blown. The owners manual has no solution to put the vehicle in neutral with an inoperable engine.
I just had several recalls completed on my van. The issue that they couldn’t fix (which I have seen on so many message boards) my car stalls when starting from a stop. If I’m at a stop sign and press the gas nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it will catch and take off throwing everything in the car and the people forward. It is terrifying! I’ve had it happen with cars approaching and just been a sitting duck, thank the Lord it engaged in time. This seems to be a very prevalent issue and I don’t understand why a recall hasn’t been done before someone dies. My trunk also doesn’t work automatically anymore and they said I had a leak that would be $300 to diagnose and $500 to fix. I know ther are lawsuits for both of these issues. Recalls need to be issued.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH uphill with the windows down, the contact heard a knocking or tapping sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and the dealer confirmed hearing the tapping sound. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Lia Honda Williamsville Auto Repair & Service Center (4891 Transit Rd, Williamsville, NY 14221); however, the knocking sound was not heard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact had heard the sound approximately 3 more times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey stalls or hesitates when I go from a stop to accelerate. The vehicle will lose all power for 3-6 seconds and when the engine catches up to the pedal, the vehicle accelerates hard, spinning the tires and jerking the vehicle. I've had the vehicle inspected at my local Honda dealership and they've said the vehicle has no open recalls. This includes the fuel pump recall and the engine recall, neither recall has been issued for my vehicle. The results of the inspection was the technician explaining that "the vehicle just does that." My vehicle has not produced any warning lamps for the engine. My vehicle has produced several warnings lamps and warning messages on the infotainment screen about the side doors being open. I've had several instances where the door will not close and or will not open properly.
Engine has been “hiccuping” for a few months and making a knocking sound. Brought it to Honda on 3 separate occasions and they “could not replicate” the sound. And said it’s normal. I’ve had 2 non Honda mechanics look at it and they agree it sounds like a rod knock and engine failure is going to happen sooner rather than later.
Code p219b. I feel this vehicle falls into the same fuel injector issue as other 2018 Honda odyssey. Bulletin 20-100, 21-010
At approximately 70,000 miles, vehicle transmission failed after intermittently falling to go into reverse and transmission warning system shifting vehicle down while driving. Rebuild parts not available from manufacturer, replaced transmission with used part. Immediately after putting car back into service, engine began to knock severely. Dealer recommended full engine replacement. Car currently not drivable and has been parked for past 13 months.
Either the engine or something else keeps failing and i completely lose power. I got the car towed back to my house. The car starts but a lot of the time it will keep shutting down while I'm on the road. I went to the dealership twice to get it checked out and they say that they do not know what the problem is and can not guarantee that they can fix the issue.
Issue-1 High pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some VINs) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 Nine speed model. Issue-2 MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big Collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda ignores and is a disaster waiting to happen. NHTSA should look into this and recall all HONDA 2018 9 SPEEED ODYSSEYS to fix this issue. It is been 6 years and Honda comfortably ignoring this safety hazard especially for a vehicle meant for kids.
While driving down the interstate, the engine started to make a loud squealing noise. I pulled over to investigate. Not being a mechanic, I couldn't determine anything. I attempted to start going again and the engine had no power. I was barely able to get it off the highway and we called for help. In the van were me, my wife, and daughter. It was scary with cars and semitrucks driving past us at high speeds. I was concerned. We were able to get the van towed after several hours of waiting. It was a hot day and I had a tick on me while waiting. The van took over a month to repair. The dealership confirmed the cause of the engine failure as the cylinder #2 connecting rod bearing. There were no warning lights when we pulled over the first time. When we started going, the check engine light came on.
During the hurricane Milton evacuation my wife and our 3 children suddenly lost power on I75 North in the dark and had to pull to the side of the road with speeding cars flying by in near pitch black. we later discovered that the control rod in the engine is broken according to a Honda dealership and we would need a new engine. The dealership said it is very strange for this to happen with how well it appears to be maintained and that there was a previouse recall on the 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys and mine might need to be included however upon speaking with Honda they said there was nothing they could do. Dealership quoted me $9,100.00 for new engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 68 MPH, the vehicle intermittently stalled, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning light was illuminated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure persisted. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer again and was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

The check engine light on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has been on since January 2024. We took it to the dealer (Music City Honda - Mt. Juliet, TN) and they claimed the 02 sensors were bad. We paid $500 to have these replaced, but the light came back on. We then received the recall for the fuel pump module. We have tried twice since May 2024 to get the part under recall replaced but have been told both times that the part is unavailable. The dealer claimed that we could bring it in but if the issue is not determined to be related to the recall, we will have the pay the diagnostic fee. Not only is my check engine light on (it says Emissions System Problem), but my car stalls while driving. This poses a significant safety risk for myself and my family, and Honda is refusing to do their part to remedy the issue at no cost.
Had about 4 incidences that van completely stalled while driving when coming to a stop. about a week later, was driving the van at approximately 6o mph when it completely shut down, had to pull over immediately to get off road. came to a fast stop. was thankful no other cars were behind us when it happened, feel they would have hit us as the vehicle shut down so quickly. there were no warning lamps or messages indicating any issues. My husband changes the oil/services it according to the manufacturer guidance. Was told by the local mechanic the engine is locked up, would need replaced. Called Honda to report, and since we do not service it at a Honda dealership, they would not assist.
I was driving on the interstate at 80 mph when my engine suddenly failed. The check engine light began to flash, the car began shaking, and there was a very loud thumping from the motor. Thankfully, I was able to pull off the road to safety. Honda diagnosed the problem this morning. They said a connecting rod bearing rotted out, so the engine threw a rod. There is a recall addressing this exact issue for my model year, but my VIN was not included in the recall. Doing a quick google search, I found several other owners of 2018 odysseys in the same boat - sudden engine failure due to a thrown rod, but their VIN wasn't included in the recall. I drive my car a lot, so it has 140,000 miles on it already. This makes me think that I'm likely to be in the early wave of vehicles experiencing sudden engine failure due to an issue with the conn rod bearing. Someone else may not get so lucky and be able to pull off the interstate when their engine blows. The repair is going to cost me approximately $8,000. Once I have the invoice and other documentation available, I'll share it here. I didn't want to delay sharing this information until after the repair is done, though, because if Honda doesn't expand their recall to include more 2018 Odysseys, someone else isn't going to get as lucky as me, and injury or death are a real likelihood. (Plus, having your engine suddenly fail is just a bummer regardless.)
When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds... leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. I think it's the transmission but it could have to do with the fuel intake... it has been ongoing for months and months. The dealer has attempted to rectify but to not avail....very dangerous
UNKNOWN At random times I will push the gas pedal and the car does not engage at all to move. I will lift my foot up and down trying to engage the engine and it won’t. After a few times it will catch and the car takes off making the tires squeal, spin or jerk. It happens at random times, no warnings whatsoever that there’s a problem. It is very dangerous at intersections when turning left on green lights, when pulling out of parking lots. It’s to the point I am afraid to drive it at busy traffic times because it happens so often and I’m afraid of getting hit while my car will not move. We have told the dealership and they suggested we wait for the fuel pump recall to be readily available. I looked in forums and this seems to be a major problem for many other owners of the 2018 or newer. It started approximately two years ago and continues to happen, in fact happening more often.
My 2018 Honda Odyssey van have had persistent acceleration hesitations after completed stops, especially during making left or right turns at street intersections since July 2022. This car normally hesitates for 2 to 3 seconds after accelation pedad is pressed before suddently jumps forward. Acceleration hesitation for few seconds, during making a turn, is very dangerous due to in coming cars in my opinion; as a result, we have tried to avoid using my odyssey van as much as possible due to potential accidents when making a turn with this Honda van.
We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23V751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000.
Engine noise, dealer service indicated that its the rod bearings, since I have never ever had this problem on any other car I have owned in 50 years i did a little research and immediately found lots of information and a recall for this problem but my VIN is not included but its exactly the same problem identified in the recall
We encountered a total engine failure while driving down a Montana highway in our 2018 Honda Odyssey. In the car were my partner and I, an elderly person, and a child. We had to wait over 2 hours for a tow truck in extreme heat in a dangerous location. There were no warning indications before the failure.
I have a 2018 odyssey and have only had it for about 6 months. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is when I go to accelerate, the car does not go right away. I have to push down hard on the pedal and the tires spin, resulting in the van lurching then accelerating quickly. This has caused MANY moments of panic as I’ve gone to accelerate to pull into traffic or to drive across a main road and it’s stalled for a moment then lurches into accelerating. I’m a careful driver and have always used acceleration in moderation and try to ease into it. This van does not allow that. You will try to press down on the pedal to slowly accelerate with nothing happening, then it’s like it connects and plows forward. Tires spinning and all.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. In addition, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

This complaint is related to the recall issued for the fuel pump repairs. The car hesitates when starting from a stop. The hesitation is alarming enough during left turns to avoid on-coming traffic. The dealer and Ameican Honda has been made aware of this. However, the local dealer is refusing to prioritize the repair. The local dealer (Economy Honda of Chattanooga) states that they will prioritize the repairs only when the car comes to complete stop. With this kind of policy of the local dealer, I do not know when the repairs will be done. The car is used to transport four children and the family. Please help getting the repairs done as soon as possible. The safety of children and the family is at stake. This occurs all the time when the car is used. This car had two issues: 1) Fuel pump recall 2) Fuel injector warrantee repairs. Attached is a letter to the dealer about both problems. The dealer has addressed the fuel injector warrantee repair issue. However, they are totally refusing to prioitize the fuel pump repairs unless the car comes to complete stop. The dealer has been made aware of the issue in a letter dated June 20, 2024 written by my father Also, a case has been registered with American Honda in this matter. American Honda is refusing to do anything until the dealer prioritizes the reapairs. Neither American Honda or the dealer are priritizing the repairs and expects us to drive the car under current unsafe condition. Please help.
2018 Honda Odyssey failed transmission systems. This vehicle had recalls in regard to TCM module and softwares in past. Normally transmission system should last well over 150,000 miles for this type of vehicle. My car failed at 74000 miles. That too without any advanced warning. Vehicle was maintained and serviced at same dealership regularly where it was purchased. Honda is claiming its outside their 60000 mile powertrain warranty. Honda expects me to pay over 10,000 dollars for repair. I believe my vehicle is having issues with transmission related to TCM module recall of 2019 and Recall 04v176 of 2023. Honda is refusing to look in to possibility of my vehicle's issue could possibly related to those recalls. I believe those recalls need to be looked at and my vehicle should have been involved in those recalls. I have documented proof for all services performed and current vehicle inspection report.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact became aware of a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced or repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall with a similar failure; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey doesn't have any current vehicle recalls but it's is experiencing the engine stall while driving, the power sliding floors not locking properly and the power trunk making a grinding noise when it opens and closes. I had the vehicle inspected at the local Honda dealership and they told me there was nothing they could do about the vehicle stalling, the power doors not closing and the trunk grinding. From releasing the brake and pressing the gas, the vehicle will stall and then spin the tires as if I'm racing or burning rubber.
Vehicle stalls when pulling out into traffic! Terrifying with my 6 kids and I'm immediately getting rid of this vehicle. Tried to have the fuel pump (current recall) replaced but Honda dealership has the vehicle for 6 DAYS! and still didn't have the part in. Upon dropping the vehicle off the tailgate lift would not work properly. This van is a load of garbage since they started using so many modules to control it! Extremely disappointed in Honda. They know all of these faulty parts and don't care enough to fix them for the safety of the consumer. Absolutely horrifying the direction of the automobile industry.
Knocking noise began so I took it to a Honda dealership. They said I have a “lower knock noise” and need a new engine because a bearing went out for a rod which could cause my engine to seize. Though there is a recall for some 2018 odysseys, I’m being told mine isn’t covered. Apparently there are many more people with the same vehicle and the same issue as me. I’d like to see this included in the recall
When driving the engine starting making a loud metallic noise. The engine also was not operating as it should have been. This occurred in early March 2023. I was able to slowly drive it to the Honda dealership in Glenwood Springs and when I stopped the engine stopped, I was unable to restart it. After several weeks, the Honda dealership stated it needed a new Engine. Initially I was quoted around 12k, then they offered a good will discount and we got the replacement to be around 6k. In late 2023, I saw that there was a recall on 2018 Honda Odysseys for an engine defect that could cause the engine to "run improperly or stall while driving." This is essentially what happened to me, but my vehicle is not on the recall list limiting Honda's requirement to fully cover the cost of replacing the engine.
On the week of May 3rd my car began to shift into different gears with no notice or reason while driving, when it would do this it would show a warning signal on the dash that stated"transmission issue!" And the gear letter would flash on the dash. I brought the car in to the dealership it was purchased from (Ira Honda Saco, ME) as the car was shifting into reverse and park while driving causing significant safety issues for myself and my children in the car. When I arrived I was told there was issue with loaners although the service employee was great in helping me find one eventually that day as I'm a solo parent with multiple children. However, when I brought the car I said there was a recall on the transmission for this exact issue. I was told my make model and year matched but not the VIN so it couldn't be the transmission recall/issue. Then I was told the issue was the fuel injectors but that they were not covered by any warranty so I'd need to pay out of pocket. Then I was told it was partially covered and I ended up paying out of pocket for the remainder and was told the car was all set no more issues, it's fixed, completely safe to drive. Now barely 4 weeks later on 6/1024 while driving on the highway the car slams into park with the same exact warning flashing on the dash. The car behind me nearly rear ended me and my seatbelt engaged as I was going 65mph and came to a complete halt, causing bruising to my chest and collar bone. I immediately brought it back to the dealership and they suddenly say it's the transmission (like I said last month) but that it's not under warranty and is $6300 to repair that Honda can't guarantee they can cover with a claim and they also don't have a loaner or any vehicle I can use to safely transport myself or my children. Yet the only reason I am at the dealership with a car that has now twice nearly caused severe injury events or death is due to the dealership's misdiagnosis of the issue and the guarantee the car was fixed
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that on one occasion the battery was replaced due to the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,500. Parts distribution disconnection.

On April 13th, 2024 our son was driving the family 2018 Honda Odyssey (Approx 83,000 miles) in a nearby city. He was driving at 43 mph when the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral without his shifting it. He tried to brake using the brake pedal but was unable to stop or slow the vehicle. He also tried to accelerate and was unable to accelerate the vehicle. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and he was forced to use the emergency brake to stop the minivan. A good samaritan stopped and assuming that the battery was the problem, tried to help jump-start the vehicle -- but they were unable to start the car. Our son called us, and I drove 20 or so miles to his location. After trying a jump box in the vehicle, we called AAA. After trying a jump start and a new battery, At this point the technician said that the vehicle would need to be towed. The transmission of the minivan appeared to be locked and the towing company was not able to find a means to unlock the transmission. As a result, the front tires were placed on skids, which allowed the minivan to be drawn up onto the bed of the tow vehicle and towed the vehicle 20 miles to the local dealer, which had originally sold us the vehicle and had completed all recent maintenance. On Monday, the Honda service technician assessed it. We were advised that the 2018 Odyssey would require a new engine. After involving American Honda, we learned that the transmission was also affected, and the car would need to have $28,000 of repairs. After a month of discussions with American Honda, they closed our case without a teardown to identify root cause of the event. Our son could easily have been killed by being in a vehicle that could not be controlled while it was moving down the street. He used the only means available to him to stop the vehicle – the emergency parking brake. American Honda has told us that we must pay the $1600 to tear the engine apart to learn the cause. We have more history than can fit here.
Since 2020, we have noticed that the 2018 Honda Odyssey we own will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed. There is a noticeable delay between 1 to 3 seconds for the vehicle to accelerate. Once the vehicle accelerates, it does so at an increased rate of speed that is dangerous and scary. This has led to 100+ near miss collisions with pedestrians and other oncoming vehicles at 4-way lighted intersections, highway on-ramps and other driving scenarios. This has caused me and my family traumatic stress (injury) as we've had so many close calls due to Honda's manufacturing failures and failures to address this problem. We have to drive extra cautiously and under stress in anticipation of the acceleration delay. We took to the dealership several times and they said there appears to be no issue even though I'm certain they didn't do thorough test drive to inspect problem. We will seek legal remedies if NHTSA and Honda will not address this defect that is being reported by hundreds of other 2018-19 Honda Odyssey owners.
I called Honda services when I received the recall letter from the mail and they kept on telling me that the parts has not come in yet, so call back later. So, I did do that I called back around 2-3 times and they kept on telling me the same thing that the parts have not come in yet and call back later and would not let me make an appointment. I called them the month of March and April and they still would not let me make an appointment.
when stopped in traffic or a light, the engine idle engages. on several occassions (5-6) the stop is too short but the Auto Engine idle is engaged and rather than restart the engine, it turns the engine off. THe car will not restart or turn off unless i open the driver door then hit the on/off button and let the whole car completely shut down before turning it back on. It can take almost full minute or more to go through the process. The danger to myself and those in my car, when we are stopped on the highway, busy road and traffic begins to move again, and i have to open my driver door to get the car to turn back on. I have informed the Honda Dealership (Pohanka Fredericksburg) about the incidents almost every time they have occurred to have them look at the vehicle, but informed they cannot reproduce the problem. I have had video of the incident occurring.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, the signal changed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated before responding. The contact stated that the engine almost stalled while driving at various speeds. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle also lurched forward while responding. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Car stalls out and completely shuts off when auto start/stop is engaged. In the 2018 model there is no way to turn off auto start/stop. The car has been unable to turn on for 3 minutes causing major safety and traffic issues. On average it takes 10-20 seconds to manually restart the vehicle with the engine start/stop button. We have taken the vehicle back to the Honda dealership multiple (3-4) times with no resolution and in they can’t find the problem, but has happened to them during test drive. They did a system update hoping it will solve the problem, but it hasn’t. I’m going to have to take it back to Honda again. Please issue a recall, this has been a known problem/issue and is on Reddit. The issue first started about a year and a half ago with the most recent occurrence being today, April 17th 2024. The vehicle has failed to turn back on after the auto start/stop engaged over 20 times.
* An engine failure occurred due a connecting rod bearing seizure. The engine was replaced at Bryan Honda in Fayetteville NC. Unless the dealer is required to save the parts I don't have them for inspection. * The engine failure occurred on the travel portion of [XXX] stalling the vehicle on the highway. Luckily we were able to move the vehicle off the traveled portion of the highway but it was not safe to be slightly of the road until a tow arrived. * The problem with this type engine is known and subject to recall number [XXX] although Honda says my specific VIN isn't covered when I submitted a claim, possible the recall could be expanded. *The engine and components were inspected at the Honda dealer. *The check engine light started flashing just as the engine lost power. At 60 mph, the fuel injectors failed on cylinder 1/2/3 (known issue based on TSB [XXX]). The vehicle produced various error codes but did not go into limp mode. We proceeded to the nearest exit on the highway to safely pull off. The engine shortly after turned on limp mode as we neared the exit. We heard an audible ping noise and the engine power changed (could still keep the vehicle moving but shaking in the steering wheel). We were on a straight path of road so the steering wheel shaking was manageable. We had the vehicle towed to nearest Honda Dealership and they completed the TSB putting in new injectors. The fault codes cleared on cylinder 1 & 2 but not 3. They performed compression test and assessed dead cylinder requiring new engine replacement. Technician also noted that #3 injector had locked open and spark plug was soaked with fuel from flooding the engine cylinder. I escalated to Honda Corporate (case # [XXX]) and they looked into the matter believing it wasn't that severe. After 1 month, they closed the claim at the regional manager level, with no earnest money, and said we were on our own for an engine with 74k miles since it was out of 60k warranty. I towed the car to my private certified mechanic (who had done all the oil changes since purchase at 34k miles). He checked with borescope and cylinder wasn't moving while crank turning. He has diagnosed broken piston rod and looking for used engine to try and replace. Honda Asheboro quoted $6,400 for repair. We believe that #3 cylinder hydro-locked when ECU turned off injector and spark plug but couldn't closed the injector properly (known debris in fuel system) causing the piston rod to break and luckily not drop the piston into the crankcase. Car is sitting idle waiting for repair or further review. Will be taking Honda Corporate to small claims court in Stanly County, NC. Other known issues for this model/year is fuel pump and piston bearings (both also TSB's and not recalls). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM
We are having the same issue as indicated on the Service Bulletin 20-100 but our VIN is not listed as covered by the manufacturer.
My wife was driving our 2018 Honda Odyssey when there was acute diminished and very unstable engine power on 7/10/2023. She heard a "knocking" noise like metal-on-metal and pushing the accelerator resulted in very uneven increase in speed - in fact, it would not go above 30mph. She immediately took the van to our local car dealership, but it was very difficult to drive the 1-2 miles it took for her to get there. Her safety was put at risk because the engine did not provide reliable power to drive after that acute event and she easily could have been rear-ended or involved in an accident. We were both very thankful that our children were not in the van at the time. The check engine light immediately came on as well when this happened and when she got to the dealer, the service department identified a P0303 stored code suggesting a cylinder 3 misfire on the lower block. There were metal fragments in the oil and they noticed internal noise/knocking. They informed us that we would need to have a new engine installed. I spoke to our dealership today 2/13/24 and they felt like it was highly probable that a manufacturing defect related to the Honda service bulletin 23-097 for Connecting Rod Bearing problems could be the manufacturing defect and culprit for why our engine stopped working. This bulletin covers build dates of 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey vans from 4/9/2018 through 8/28/2018. Our build date was prior to October 2017 is what our dealer has told me. I do not believe that our defective engine would be available for inspection as I believe the dealership discarded it after installing a salvaged engine, also from a 2018 Odyssey. I do not believe any other agency inspected our defective engine after it was removed. The dealership also was unaware of the 23-097 service bulletin, since they were informed of that later in the year during November 2023. We took excellent care of this vehicle (bought new) and all service was performed on-schedule at dealership.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on various occasions while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and was restarted. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled on approximately eight separate occasions. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod was damaged, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,667.

The transmission is unreliable. You push the gas and it hesitates to accelerate or switch to the next gear to speed up. It can shake or rattle the car. Has a trouble at low speeds or shifting to the next gear to increase speed. This makes it dangerous to try to pull out into an intersection because the transmission or gear shifting doesn't always hit and you can get hit or injured. This transmission has been weird since the car was new.
10/4/2023 (55K miles), the vehicle suddenly lost power at interstate speed and dropped to three cylinders. Warning lights came on disabling all automatic safety systems. I took the vehicle to a parts store and OBD indicated an oil pressure sensor in VTEC Bank 1. After restarting the vehicle I once again had all 6 cylinders, but all safety systems failures were still indicated on the dash. I replaced the battery (5.5 years old) and all systems returned to normal. After a the PGM-FI update for idle stop issues (recall) was performed at the dealer on 1/31/2024, two days later (2/2/2024) the previous event recurred resulting in severe loss of power and all safety systems indicating failure. I replaced the 4 month old battery under warranty believing the battery had failed prematurely. The problem did not resolve after replacing the battery and multiple restarts. I returned the car to the dealer service center on 2/3/2024 running on three cylinders and then suddenly 6 again after a restart part way there. Dealer diagnosed issue as intermittent fault P2652 Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch B (Bank 1) and replaced it at my cost but did not charge diagnoses. Operation returned to normal. ***I have driven Honda vehicles for 25 years with very few issues. Something is seriously wrong in their ECU program/electrical system that causes vehicle to suddenly lose power and safety systems due to an intermittent oil pressure sensor fault. I am a Mechanical Engineer with more than 18 years working in mechanical and electrical aerospace systems. Honda needs to identify the root cause of this failure mode and issue yet another recall to address the systemic hardware and software issues. Both times this occurred, I had 4 young kids in the car and could not maintain safe interstate speed or accelerate to get on the highway.
The vehicle had low voltage indications and electrical issues that would affect many of the electrical systems in the car (power doors, main entertainment system, etc). More concerning, the vehicle would shift into park while driving and then would shut off. This posed a serious hazard when driving quickly. Honda was unable to remedy the issue and could not come up with a definitive cause. Another recall with these same problem was issued for other VIN numbers of the same make, model, and manufacturing year. My VIN was not included in that recall. The recall needs to be expanded to include more VINs as this is an issue in 2018 Honda Odyssey vans and poses a risk to me and my family while driving in its current state. My transmission is now experiencing issues due to shifting into park while driving and needs to be replaced.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rod bearing failure lead to engine seizing How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? We started hearing the ticking in October, I visited the dealership and contacted Honda multiple times and either told to take no action or wait for the recall. Case #[XXX] We expressed our concern to both the dealership and Honda about not addressing the issue because we had a big trip for Christmas coming up. My mother-in-law has terminal cancer and the entire family was getting together for Christmas with her. To get there we drive 20 hours from Arkansas to Utah. We followed the advice of the dealership and Honda and waited. Unfortunately about 50 miles out of Amarillo the van started to make loud engine noise and stalled. While going 75 miles an hour down the interstate I lost power steering and my brakes were very unresponsive. Luckily, we were in the farthest right lane and I was able to get us safely to the shoulder. We feel blessed to have made it off the road, it was a very dangerous situation. Now my van with 70K mile has a seized engine and is stuck 12 hours away in Amarillo Texas. I am requesting that Honda reimburse my rental, ship my van back home to Bentonville, and send a new engine for the dealership to fix the now seized engine. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes the issue has been diagnosed by Brown Honda in Amarillo TX by Todd Burkham the Fixed Operations Director Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Only by Brown Honda in Amarillo TX Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Only the ticking sound that we took the vehicle in for starting in late October. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring. On December 8th exactly one week after I had my van serviced at the local Honda Dealership I broke down on the interstate. My van started making strange noises and the check engine light started blinking. I lost all power and had to merge over to the emergency lane almost causing an accident. I contacted the service manager at the local Honda dealership. I explained to him what was going on, I also told him that I noticed a slight tapping sound the week prior and asked them to check it out when I brought it in for service on November 30th. I was told they didn't notice anything wrong and that the only thing I needed was front brake pads. Upon searching the internet I found there is currently a recall on some of the models for faulty connecting rod bearings. Preston Locklear the service manager was unaware of the recall, so I emailed him the recall service letter. He called me back to inform me that my van does not fall under the build dates approved for the recall. That afternoon the service writer called me to inform me that my engine is blown, when I asked him how they determined that his reply " we sent a tech out and he pulled the dipstick and seen metal". He then went on to say that if I want to determine the cause of the failure I would have to pay to get the oil pan dropped. When I asked ow much that would be they said they had to get back to me. They finally called me back December 22nd with a quote. I was told it would be about $600. I contacted Honda recall center and asked for help. I was assigned a case worker. He called me back December 29th saying there was no help they could offer. I had my van towed from Honda to an independent shop. They pulled the oil pan and found the #6 connecting rod bearing failed. I would like for Honda to help me with this matter. It is an obvious problem with this engine. They are o it recalling 250k but they need to recall all of them in those years.
My odyssey is running rough and Not accelerating correctly. All lights on the dash come on including emissions and power steering and traction control. I recently spent close to $3,000 doing the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and valve adjustment. All maintenance is up to date.
There’s currently a recall on the 2018 2019 Honda odysseys. The recall is for the same as exact issue that I had with my 2018 Honda Odyssey there’s a problem with the connecting rod bearings recall campaign number 23V751000. I’m being told from Honda that my van does not fall into the production date range for the recall. I’m being told that any repairs I’m going to have to cover myself even though it’s the same issue that the other vehicles are having. I was on the interstate traveling about 70 miles an hour. My check engine light came on blinking I lost total power I had to get out of the left lane and make it all the way to the shoulder between traffic. I had my car towed to the Honda dealership that I’ve taken it to for every single service since I purchased the vehicle. I want to know why my vehicle is not gonna be covered under this so-called recall, if it’s having the same as exact issues as the other vehicles and the recall. And Honda is refusing any help
Car has acceleration issues when making left turns, merging onto freeway, or passing cars on freeway. Transmission and blind spot light went on and we took car to Honda dealer. They could not find anything wrong, no codes were stored and they were not able to duplicate the issue. Scanned vehicle and unable to trace root cause. Updated TCM software which helped for about a month but acceleration issues are now back again. This is a serious safety issue as the car hesitates to accelerate. We have kept up with all car maintenance.
Around October 29th my vehicle developed a faint to loud noise within 24 hours. There was no engine light, no leaking of fluids and no other warning. As we drove the vehicle to a repair shop I could tell there was some hesitation or lack of normal power. The shop we took my vehicle too was not able to do any repair or diagnosis so it was towed to Honda of Olathe, then New Concept Auto and finally Sallas Auto. On November 10th, I was told my engine needed to be replaced due to bearing issue. The mechanic ran diagnostic tests and did not find any past cleared codes or active codes that should have been triggered by an engine issue. My vehicle was serviced regularly. Most recent was an oil change end July/Early August, no issues were found, no metal flakes. In that short period of time my engine failed and I had to replace with a used 2018 engine. During this time we were informed by friends of the Honda Odyssey recall for 2018 engines, however upon calling Honda Corporate, I was told my specific 2018 Honda Odyssey was not included and would "not be covered at this time, if ever". My mechanic is adamant the issues listed in the recall document is the exact issue I had with my engine. On attachment please notice item 1 and 2. Also the deer note at the top of the attached invoice is determined to be a coincidence by three separate mechanics - Honda of Olathe, Sallas and New Concept Auto as well as the State Farm advisor. Thank you
Manufacturing Engine damage/failure. Synthetic oil was used at all oil changes every 5K miles. However, after only 3K miles after last oil change the oil level was low and dirty. Engine light started flashing and failed to accelerate. Engine also started making a knocking noise.
For the last 3 months the car will turn on by itself and drain the battery. Went to several mechanics that could not find a reason for this issue. This weekend, while I was driving on the road, the car stopped while driving on the highway. This happened 4 times risking my life, wife, and my children. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by other owners of this car on various forums. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer as they are trying to charged me thousands of dollars to review the issue. There were no warning lamps or signals on the car.
I was driving down the interstate and I lost total power. My engine stalled, mechanic says connecting rod bearing failure. There is currently a recall on some of the 2018 Honda odyssey models for the same problem but from what I read it doesn’t cover mine even though it has the same issue as the recall
When I was driving on the road a few hours away from my hometown, the check engine light started blinking. I took the car to a nearby Honda dealership. They said blinking engine light was due to misfire on cylinder 6. Solution is to replace fuel injectors, but the injectors are on back order with no release date. So I am not able to drive the car right now until it is fixed. Please advise. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine suddenly lost power while driving on highway putting my family at risk of a serious accident. A Honda dealer diagnosed a connecting rod bearing issue No warning before engine lost power - flashing engine late came on at same time. Honda dealer says a new engine is needed.
The car stop or fall several times when doing a complete stop and may cause and accident
Here is what happened: 1). After the car driving for 10mins and engine warms up, stop the car, and turn off. 2). Turn on the car again, it shows message such as "Emissions System Problem", "Transmission problem", "Blind Spot Info System Problem" at the same time. The computer locks the car that doesn't allow the Transmission to change from "P" to "R", "N", or "D" position. The car fails to drive. 3). Leave the car for few hours and let the engine compartment cool down first, turn on the car again and those messages go away, and the car can drive. 4). After driving for a while, it repeats the problem from 1) ~ 3).
This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues, culminating in the need for three batteries in a six year. Period. From day one there were electrical issues with the auto stop start and the car in one occasion the battery completely died. Honda was unable to identify the issue and electrical issues. Continue to happen. in the last 18 months I’ve had numerous occasions where this auto stop start would engage at a stoplight stop sign in the middle of busy traffic, but would not start back up. I took it in for service and they cannot re-create or identify the issue. This is very scary when it happens as I have been on start and go traffic on the interstate on busy intersections and the car will not move nor can it be restarted for 5 to 10 minutes. Honda offers no solution to this dangerous problem. After months of not being able to fix this. Identify a problem the car no longer moves into reverse consistently Honda recommends new transmission. After becoming frustrated with Honda and feeling unsafe with my family in this vehicle, I had to trade it in for a new vehicle as no solutions were offered to make me feel safe driving it or to get it repaired effectively or identify why it keeps needing new batteries and has electrical dysfunction since purchase
Recently started to experience this issue. I have 41,000miles on this 2018 Honda Odyssey. It Jerks & delayed acceleration/hesitation upon acceleration while driving between 20‐35mph on local roads. It happens mostly with slowing down in traffic or upon stopping at stop sign & accelerating again. I am not experiencing this issue with freeway driving. I went to the dealership where I bought the car from. They asked me for $280 to just diagnose the problem, but I refuse to pay for just to diagnose. Currently, I am trying to research out my own. As the dealership has no clue about the issue. Please provide me with any related complaints & resolution for this problem.
When the vehicle’s auto start-stop feature is active, the feature will malfunction causing the engine to not start properly. Instead, the vehicle stalls and must be restarted manually. However, there are many occasions when the vehicle does not start manually either. In these cases, it takes many attempts to restart the vehicle. While these events are happening, the vehicle displays an error message for the auto start-stop feature on the instrument cluster, and the instrument cluster will flicker on and off. The events often occur during the middle of an intersection and attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. It creates a very dangerous situation. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others because the issue occurs regularly, and the dealership has asked us to come back when the problem is occurring. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, there are other Honda vehicles (e.g., Honda Pilot) which have the exact same issue, and a recall has been issued for those vehicles but not the Honda Odyssey.
In two separate incidents, my vehicle stalled when it tried to restart after being in Auto Idle Stop mode. In both incidents, I was stopped at an intersection where I was making an unprotected left turn. As I was stopped, the Auto Idle Stop mode activated on my Honda Odyssey which turned off the engine. When it was clear to make a left turn, I lifted my foot off the gas which disabled Auto Idle Stop mode. As my engine tried to restart, it stalled. I was able to get it to restart but only after being stalled in traffic for several seconds causing other drivers to honk at me. When my engine restarted, several warning lights lit up on my dashboard for about a second and a warning alarm sounded. Since they were illuminated for such a short period and I was actively trying to clear the intersection, I was not able to see which lights they were but I do remember that one of the lights that lit up in the first incident was the sliding door warning light. The first incident happened in May 2023 when I had about 99,000 miles on my van. The second incident happened in July 2023 with approximately 101,000 miles on my van. The problem happens at seemingly random times and has not been able to be reproduced. There were no other warnings prior to the problem happening. Since my van randomly stalled in the middle of an intersection, I believe this problem posed a safety risk to myself and my occupants as well as other drivers near me. Had I not been able to get my van restarted, I would have been at risk of being hit by oncoming cars. Even the few-second delay in restarting could have been catastrophic had an oncoming car been approaching quickly. I have had no issues with the starter on my van or with issues stalling other than these incidents. The stalls have only occured when coming out of Auto Idle Stop mode. Unfortunately, there is no way to permanently deactivate this mode. It automatically turns on each time I start up my car.
Five years old vehicle jerked and almost came to a complete stop. Engine transmission services warning popped up as soon as the jerk happened the first time. Another warning came up as well. Jerking happens at least every mile. Car full of young kids jerked and almost came to a complete stop on the road and highway. Multiple moving vehicles were near when this occurred, which could have resulted in a terrible accident. Honda dealer said this is due to front camshaft and sensor. No engine warning regarding this problem showed up prior to this jerking. This first appeared on June 23, 2033.
I am having an identical issues as described in NHTSA ID Number 11526094. Vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Have been almost hit a couple times as it is unpredictable when this happens. This is a dangerous behavior and I cannot in clear conscience sell this minivan to another family. I have returned it to the dealer multiple times and they were eventually able to reproduce the problem and captured the behavior on diagnostic equipment. Their finding is that when the accelerator is slightly pressed, and then release (like one might do when entering an intersection to make a left hand turn) the transmission jumps to 5th gear. When the accelerator is pressed to complete the left turn, the transmission spends several seconds shifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd before finally accelerating. This delay opens up the opportunity to get hit. The dealer concurred that this was a problem but then contacted Honda and they said this is normal characteristic with 2018 and 2019 model Odyssey's with the 9 speed transmission. This may be a normal characteristic with this model year according to Honda but it is not acceptable behavior for any type of vehicle. It is just a matter of time before an accident will happen. It happens often and seems to be getting worse over time including irregular/rough shifts while driving. See attached documentation.
The problem is with the 9 speed automatic transmission system. Yes, it is available for inspection. There is a delay in acceleration which has caused the vehicle to "stall" in dangerous situations such as pulling out onto a road with traffic, making a left turn with oncoming traffic, or needing to accelerate at a green light. There have been multiple incidents when an oncoming car has had to brake to avoid a collision because I have stalled temporarily in their lane. I have also nearly been rear ended as I stall after moving forward at a green light. The vehicle accelerates too slowly from a stop, then stalls for several seconds before over correcting and too much power causes the tires to spin and the car can get a little squirrelly if I am not extra careful. It happens often but not always and is getting worse and more frequent. There are also problems with rough shifting and delayed shifting that have been an issue since I bought it in 2018. I have taken it to the dealer many times and while the issue has been reproduced, they have never been able to identify a cause. One Honda mechanic said that his 2018 Pilot acts the same way and it is "normal" for that engine. The issue was reproduced during a recent inspection from an independent mechanic who sent me to a specialty transmission shop who said the transmission was fine and suggested that it was due to a tech issue and sent me back to Honda. The mechanics at Honda have not gotten stuck in front of an oncoming car on a road test so they treat the issue as a mild annoyance. No warning lights have gone on. The severity and frequency of this problem is increasing and I no longer believe the car is safe to drive. Honda does not have a fix and I am ready to sell it but I don't think it is safe for others to drive either and I don't know what to do. It is only a matter of time until this causes an accident.
several times when stopped at a light, the vehicle's auto idle engine engages and shuts the car off. When the brake has been released, the vehicle has failed to start. Most recently, this occurred while waiting in a car line of traffic and it took many different attempts to get the car engine back on - about 10 minutes before the engine could be started, resulting in myself and my children stuck on the road while we opened doors, the hood of the car, tried to start the car and turn it completely off. It was in a stuck position until it wasn't. that was the first time the vehicle wouldn't start after numerous attempts to start the engine. We have been told there is no way to fix this - only to manually turn the function off every time the car is started.
Vehicle intermittently engine does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Seems engine is hesitating and will not react to input from gas pedal. Very dangerous situation when you are merging onto highways or turning on to a road. Has done it for some time now. Cannot replicate when taken to dealer. I have read on Honda Odyssey (Ody Club) that this is a common issue with this vehicle. I am afraid my wife is going to wind up in a nasty accident.
This issue been going on for a while now. I Have taking it to the dealer for issue. They said was the battery i replace the battery. Still doesn’t fix the issue. Last week we stuck on the hogging in traffic with my family of 5 including children. We came to a stop and it went into idle stop then it when i released brakes the engine didn’t turn back on tell me to shift in park in the middle of the highway. I could have been hit from the rear with this issue especially if you’re stuck in traffic. This issue has been going on a few times thinking it was because of a battery. I replaced my battery twice because that what Honda said is the issue .
The radio goes out on my van and the van shifts into neutral while I'm driving. This has been going on for months I've had it to the Honda dealership twice this last time thay said the only thing they could come up with is that the alternator is losing power but alternator is on back order until June and still no guarantee this will fix the problem since none of there test showed up anything other then they were able to get it to go into neutral for them while they were driving it.
On 2 occasions, the "Auto Engine Idle Stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. The car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. Eventually the car reset itself and I was able to restart the car. After this happened the first time the battery in the vehicle was replaced. The second time this happened the battery was only 2 years old. The manufacturer should fix this problem with a recall.
Blindspot monitoring, emissions system problem, transmission system problem all come on at the same time when vehicle is motion. Unable to manually shift if needed. A lot of vans had recall, however ours is not on the recall list, but we highly believe it should be due to safety concerns due to transmission failure.
My car would not switch gears quick enough which resulted in a brief stalling when trying to cross traffic. This is just the most recent issues when it comes to faulty gear shifting in this vehicle. if it weren’t for other cars slamming on their brakes, it would have been a bad accident.
The vehicle has a very significant delay in accelerating from a stop or slow roll. Often the delay is up to 2 or 3 seconds and has caused several near misses when attempting to cross traffic. It's inconvenient and more important, a safety problem. Upon research I have discovered it is a wide spread issue among Odysseys in this generation. It seems to be an issue with cars equipped with either the 9 speed or the 10 speed transmission.
I have an 2018 Odyssey Touring that apparently has a problem with the auto-idle stop while driving at slow speeds, many times (2 to 6 times a day) for a few weeks now. It starts with a weird noise (like a loud record scratch) through the speakers, then engine turns off, dash and radio shuts off too and immediately everything turns on again. Car don’t go to park, it stays on drive mode. Sometimes I was able to read different messages on the dashboard or radio about “Collition mitigation system” “anti theft system” and sometimes “loading” appears on the radio screen. This messages disappear quickly. Before this problems happened, the DVD rear screen stopped working (it’s completely black) while the DVD can be heard playing on the speakers. Don’t know if the two issues are related. I'm worried this can cause the car to stop at higher speeds and cause an accident, my wife usually drives this car with the kids with her. I took the car to a Honda dealership, they run diagnostic tests and it doesn't show anything. I left the car at the dealership, they will try to replicate the problem to understand what is happening.
On at least 3 occasions, the "Auto Engine Idle Stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. When the car shuts off/dies, the system prompts you to shift the car in park and restart the car, but on these occasions, the car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. I felt very unsafe to be stalled with no way to operate the vehicle. The dealership checked the battery to ensure it wasn't a battery issue and found it to be completely fine. At the time we did not realize that it could be a problem with the Auto Engine Idle Stop feature, otherwise we would've had them check that system specifically. Further research from other customer forums online prompted us to turn this feature off, but we have to do that every time we start the car. There is no way for us to turn it off permanently. The car gives you no warning that this will happen. When you remove your foot from the break to resume driving, the car shuts off without immediately restarting, leaving you stranded. I am hoping that Honda will issue a recall on affected models. At this point they aren't offering any help other than to tell us to turn it off, but you have to remember to do that every time you start your vehicle.
engine reves , no forward movement. Happened the first time on 80/94 east bound (traffic slowed @ 34-36 mph). 4 times now in the last two years. Seems that the speed is always the same when it happens. , into Community Honda, Orland Park, IL . They say no problem . No warning signals. Husband with me the last time it happened Sept. 2, 2022 definately something dangerously wrong.
My wife was waiting outside in our vehicle with our kids while I was running an errand. She stated that she went to move the car and as she put it in reverse, the car rolled forward and automatically engaged itself into park. Then she stated that the van also started sputtering and shaking. She shut it off and got our kids out of the car. When I got back to the car, she was explaining it to me. I then started to troubleshoot by checking for blown fuses, bad battery connections and etc. Everything appeared as it should be. I turned the car on to the accessory mode, and it was throwing almost every code possible if not all of them. It showed emissions system, abs systems, hill start and several others. With the car still in accessory mode, I noticed the radiator fans were not coming on as they should have. Also the engine bay was hot, as in the air filter housing was hot enough that you could not keep your hand on it. After letting it cool down, I inspected the battery terminals again for any loose connections and could not find anything. We ended up having to get a tow truck to tow it to a shop to get it worked on. The van has 73k miles on it. The vehicle would not go into gear for us. It was also sputtering when running. It sounds like an electrical issue.
I have taken my Honda to the dealership on multiple occasions, regarding lack of acceleration, after a complete stop. The engine does not engage after pushing the pedal down, so that my vehicle can move. It has a very long delay after coming to a stop. This is a huge safety concern, considering when making a right turn, and perceiving there is enough time to accelerate my vehicle, before another oncoming vehicle, there is a delay a potential accident will occur. This should never happen and my family has been in multiple situations where there was almost an accident. I love my Honda but this safety concern has made me rethink and potentially inform others of this matter. Please help me find a solution to this problem. I even purchased an extended warranty I hopes there may be a solution, but I’m beginning to lose hope. I have a family of 7, and I shouldn’t fear having to drive a stock vehicle, that my families life may be in danger due to this faulty engine delay. Please help a pleading father feel safe. Thank you and I hope to hear a response.
When coming to a stop, usually in stop / go traffic and at times when coming to a complete stop, the auto-idle stop kicks in, but then immediately shuts the engine down and shifts vehicle into park. Vehicle has to be entirely shut down and restarted to bring the engine back. We have been taking the vehicle to the dealership since we bought it a couple of years ago. Seems to be mostly occurring in warm summer months. Also affects the audio entertainment, all sounds stop. And after the most recent repair by the dealership (replacing the tuner), the display screen will not come on for 10-15 min when first starting the vehicle (including the back-up cam and warnings)
I was driving on the freeway at 60mph and the all dashboard notification lights started flickering (lane departure warning, odometer, blind spot warning, etc) and the car went from drive to neutral. This occurred twice while i was on the freeway on 6/6/22. This has also occurred twice before.
Auto restart feature when enabled did not restart vehicle after coming to a stop at stoplight on multiple occasions in the last few months rendering vehicle unable to proceed. We recently saw news article about same issue with Pilots.
In lower gears, there is hesitation when accelerating which causes driver to unknowing lurch forward. Sometimes peeling out. In stop and go traffic, the van does not accelerate for a few seconds when gas pedal is pressed. There is sometimes a clunking sound which causes van to lurch when accelerating at a lower gear which feels like someone has hit my van from behind. It is a safety issue because I don’t know if the van will accelerate or not right away when I press the gas pedal.
Like many others, I am experiencing hard shifts between the 25-30 mph range. The downshifting is also very hard. While I don’t hear clunking like I do with a gear shift, it will jerk down to a gear that seems too low and almost feels like the brakes are being applied when they are not. The most terrifying issue is the lag time between gas being applied. My engine remains idle and then jolts forward. This has almost caused an accident with oncoming traffic when I am trying to turn left. I beg of you to research this for a possible recall. Since it isn’t a constant issue, Honda says it runs normal and nothing is wrong.
Merging from west bound I-40 to south bound I-15, there was a slight incline. I accelerated to merge and change lane from 4 to 3, the van suddenly lost power. Engine was running and I could hear it rev up but transmission seemed to not have engaged. The car decelerated to almost 50 mph forcing me to move back to lane 4 in order to avoid being hit by an incoming 18-wheeler. It's most likely an transmission issue of old with Honda. The vehicle regained power after I let go of gas pedal for about 4-5 seconds. It happened again on I-40 near Flagstaff at high speed on my way home to Dallas from SoCal on Jan 2nd. To lose available power to wheels at high rate of speed, it's surely a safety hazzard. I don't feel safe to allow my wife to drive the vehicle. Please help investigate.
The engine was making a chirping noise that was heard from within the cabin. The service department of the Honda dealer verified with Honda that the noise was due to a timing belt chirp, per Honda Service Bulletin(SB) 16-054, which applied to the year, make and model of the automobile. The SB indicates that the timing belt idler pulley is too close to the crankshaft pulley, which cause the timing belt to contact the back edge of the crankshaft pulley. This is a 2018 model with less than 14000 miles. The indication is that the belt will fail prematurely, besides making a noise that is quite distracting to the driver. Certainly, this is a design flaw needing the manufacture to recall and fix this well known and common problem with this vehicle.
Car started showing all kind of errors before the milleage waranty went out, one day when car was started, we saw the following errors scroll through the dash: Road Departure mitigation system problem Power Steering System EPS problem VSA Vehicle stability assist problem Hill start assist problem Brake system error Brake Hold system problem Brake system problem I have taken the car in for these issues 3 times at a local dealership and nothing was found as a reason for the issue, they just "rolled" the errors to clear them and that seems to work for a few months. When these errors happen the car is not fully responsive and becomes a safety hazard in my view, not having all the safety features available while driving the car in this error mode is dangerous for me and my family these will happen every once in a while, and the most recent happening was today 11/19/2021.
When making left or right turns from completed stops, the car some time hesitates to move or to speed up for short 2-3 seconds. This could cause accident between my car and in coming trafic.
There is a chirping coming from the engine area with the engine warmed up AND NOW IS RATTLING UNDER NEATH THE VAN
The transmission stalls and doesn’t shift into different gears or takes a long time to shift while letting the car roll (almost causing accidents as I have no control) The van also rolled back on its own down my driveway while I was trying to park and wouldn’t go into gear until I was able to get a complete stop. The speed is also affected as it will not speed up when Pulling out from a stop And then it will speed too fast which makes it hard to not get hit by traffic going at a steady speed. This is not a one time incident, it’s now a non stop issue every time I drive. This happens at all speeds and now can not drive past 50 mph without the engine revving.
The vehicle is slowing at low speed and it gives an impression that break is being applied when there is no break being applied.
THE CAR TURNED ON THE ENGINE LIGHT INDICATING MISFIRE IN ALL THE ENGINE CYLINDERS THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE FUEL INJECTOR SYSTEM AND THEY CHANGED THEM THEY GAVE ME THE CAR BUT IT NO LONGER WORKED I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT THEY UNCOVER THE ENGINE AND FIND OUT THE DAMAGE THAT WAS ALLEGEDLY CAUSED BY THE INJECTORS WITH FACTORY DEFECTS AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF THE ENGINE TO CHANGE IT IF NECESSARY WITH MY MONEY.
OUR 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE HAS INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. AS CONTEXT, THE CAR ENGINE WILL AUTOMATICALLY STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FULLY STOPPED, FOR EXAMPLE AT A RED LIGHT, AND A FEW OTHER CONDITIONS ARE MET (BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE, BATTERY CHARGE, ELECTRICAL LOAD). OUR VEHICLE WHEN AUTO STOPPED MAY STALL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESUME DRIVING. WHEN THE DRIVER RELEASES THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE CAR FAILS TO AUTO START, OR AUTO STARTS WITH WARNING MESSAGES. WHEN THE CAR FAILS TO START, A VARIETY OF WARNING MESSAGES WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. REMEDIATION VARIES. THE CAR MAY RESPOND TO SHIFTING TO PARK AND PUSHING THE IGNITION START/STOP BUTTON TWICE. AT TIMES, THE CAR MAY NOT RESPOND TO SHIFTING TO PARK AND IGNITION BUTTON ACTIONS. THE ONLY FIX THEN SEEMS TO BE A 'HARD' SHUTOFF THAT REQUIRES OPENING THE DRIVER DOOR AND PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON, CLOSING THE DOOR, PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON, AND SHIFTING TO DRIVE. WHEN THE SYSTEM PARTIALLY FAILS, THE FRONT COLLISION WARNING/MITIGATION SYSTEM IS TEMPORARILY DISABLED. MY CAR IS CURRENT ON ALL RECALLS. I RECENTLY HAD DEALER SERVICE, AND THEY CONFIRMED THERE ARE NO KNOWN BULLETINS FOR THIS ISSUE. THE CAR IS CURRENT ON MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND IS OTHERWISE IN VERY GOOD OPERATION CONDITION. THIS SITUATION CAR BE QUITE STRESSFUL WHEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, OR WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT TO MERGE INTO A MAJOR ROAD FROM A STOP. THIS FAILURE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU NEEDED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE QUICKLY, FOR EXAMPLE IF STOPPED NEAR A RAILROAD CROSSING. THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM IS ENABLED BY DEFAULT TO IMPROVE FUEL ECONOMY. IT CAN BE MANUALLY DISABLED, HOWEVER IT RESETS WITH EACH SHUTOFF. I WOULD PERMANENTLY DISABLE IT, HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE APPARENTLY FOR EPA REASONS. I HAVE VIDEOS SHOWING THIS BEHAVIOR.

SSINCE THE COMPUTER WAS UPDATED, THE GAS NEEDLE IS WRONG. IT MAY SHOW FULL WHEN YOU FILL GAS TANK, BUT LESS THAN 25 MILES NEEDLE WILL DROP DOWN APPROX.1/8 BELOW FULL AND WHEN YOU FILL UP. GAS NEEDLE WILL BE BELOW 1/2 FULL AND IT WILL ONLY TAKE APPROX. 8TO 9 GAL YO FILL UP TANK IT APPEARS TO BE 2GALS +, - WRONG. DOESN'T MATTER IF VAN IS MOVING OR STILL. ALSO THE GAS MILEAGE SEEM TO BE LESS..
VEHICLE IS NOT SHIFTING AT ALL, DOESN'T GO RIGHT AWAY WHEN PEDAL IS PRESSED, PARK, DRIVE, REVERSE BUTTONS FLASH ON DASHBOARD WHEN CAR IS ON. ALL SENSOR LIGHTS COME ON WITH ISSUES.

ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM AND BLIND SPOT SYSTEM PROBLEM MESSAGES AND ISSUE SURFACED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE, I WAS UNABLE TO BACKUP THE VEHICLE AT SERVICE PLAZA AND ALSO WAS UNABLE TO BACKUP VEHICLE WHILE PARKING ON OUR HOME DRIVEWAY! NOT ABLE TO BACKUP VEHICLE IS A HUGE SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUE. I TRIED CALLING HONDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, BUT WAS TOLD TOW TRUCK WAS RESTRICTED ON OHIO TURNPIKE. ISSUE SURFACED SEVERAL TIMES. DEALER LOOKED AT THE ISSUES AND PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE. DEALER DETERMINED ' AFTER CODES WERE CLEARED, ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED'. I AM NOT CONVINCED THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY KNOWN ISSUES LIKE THIS ON 2018 ODYSSEY'S WITH 10 SPEED AUTO, ELECTRONIC PRESS BUTTON TRANSMISSION! A CASE 11543835 HAS ALSO BEEN OPENED WITH HONDA , BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE YET.

WE CAME HOME FROM THE MOVIE THEATER (WHICH WAS ONLY 5 MILES AWAY) AND PARKED OUR CAR IN THE OUR DRIVEWAY. WHEN MY HUSBAND TURNED OFF THE CAR, WE IMMEDIATELY SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. WE SEE SMOKE COMING UP FROM THE HOOD OF THE CAR. MY HUSBAND, KIDS AND I IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SEE WAFTS OF SMOKE RISING FROM THE HOOD. WE SEE FIRE AT THE UNDER BED OF THE CAR. WITHIN 3 MINUTES FIRE WAS COMING UP THROUGH THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE ENTIRE HOOD OF MY CAR WAS UP IN FLAMES (4-5FT TALL) WITHIN 5 MINUTES FROM SMOKE TO FULL FIRE. FIREFIGHTERS THANKFULLY PUT OUT THE FIRE WITHIN 8 MINUTES FROM WHEN IT STARTED. THE HOOD HAD DISINTEGRATED AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND ALL THE PARTS IN THE HOOD WERE BURNT AND MELTED. MY WINDSHIELD SHATTERED FROM THE HEAT. THIS CAR WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, 37,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS BOUGHT AND SERVICE LOS REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE CAR WOULD JUST COMBUST OUT OF THE BLUE. CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA WITH NO AVAIL. AND REFUSAL OF ANY INVESTIGATION. THE ENTIRE INCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON OUR SECURITY CAMERA.

THE 2018 ODYSSEY HAS MANY PROBLEMS ON THE FUEL INJECTORS SYSTEM THAT CAUSED ALL CHECKING ENGINES LIGHTS ON. THE COSTS TO REPAIR IS TOO EXPENSIVE. COSTS ME 1650.00 AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER

THE CAR HAS 27,000 MILES ON IT. THE ENGINE MOUNT IS BEING REPLACED DUE TO IT BEING BAD, THE RADIO IS VERY DELAYED AND CRASHES AND THE SLIDING DOOR KEEPS STICKING AND I HAVE TO FORCE IT CLOSED.

FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT MY CAR THE BRAKES HAVE SQUEALED WHEN APPLYING THEM AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE GAS TOOK AN EXTENDED TIME TO WORK. ONCE I WAS TRYING TO SWITCH LANES AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE VAN DIDN'T GO ANY FASTER AND I ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE VAN SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD. EVERYTHING THE VAN SHIFTS AROUND 20-30 MPH THE ENTIRE VEHICLE JOLTS BACK AND FORTH. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THE DEALERS WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HONDA'S CORPORATE NUMBER BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, FLUIDS AND FUEL INJECTORS BUT ALL THE ISSUES STILL REMAIN. I HAVE ALSO HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH THE SOUND SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY BUT HAVE NOT MENTIONED THAT TO THE DEALERSHIP OR HONDA CORPORATE.

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW ON 07/10/2017. IT HAS BEEN TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES BECAUSE IT WON'T START. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED IN, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE SECOND TIME IT SAT IN MY GARAGE FOR TWO DAYS. WE WERE UNABLE TO START THE VAN. THE VAN HAS A KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM. THE VAN WOULD NOT UNLOCK, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULDN'T LIGHT UP AND IT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK FOR THE CAR. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED TO START THE VAN BY JUMPING THE BATTERY AND HE COULD NOT START IT. IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THAT SUNDAY. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME ON MONDAY MORNING AND TOLD ME THAT COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VAN. THEY SAID IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THEY SAID THEY TRIED TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT. I PICKED THE VAN UP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEN ON 07/19/2019 MY WIFE DROVE THE VAN TO A LOCAL VENUE WITH THE GRANDCHILDREN. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, SHE CAME OUT TO THE VAN AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SENT ANOTHER TOW TRUCK TO PICK IT UP. ONCE AGAIN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO JUMP START THE VAN, AND ONCE AGAIN IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE VAN WAS TOWED OVER TO HONDA WHERE ONCE AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VAN. IT STARTED FINE. THEY KEPT IT TWO DAYS CHECKING IT OUT AND ONCE AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN 2 YEARS THAT THE VAN HAS TO BE TOWED IN AND THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I HAVE THE ONLY HONDA ODYSSEY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HONDA DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS AND FIND THE PROBLEM.

FIRST INCIDENT IN 2018, THE MINIVAN CAME TO A QUICK COMPLETE STOP UNNECESSARILY. A CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD MADE A QUICK TURN, I WAS NOT IN DANGER OF RUNNING INTO THE CAR. I HAD A DRIVER BEHIND ME HONKING HIS HORN. I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. NEXT INCIDENT OCCURRED THIS MONTH, MARCH, 2019. DRIVING DOWN A STREET, 25 M.P.H. THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. I HAD TO PULL OVER, THE WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. AFTER PULLING OVER, I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND DROVE HOME. GOOD THING I WAS NOT ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE.BOTH OCCURRED ON CITY STREETS. AUGUST 16, 2018 FIRST INCIDENT. MARCH 11, 2019. DT

THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THERE ALSO APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONICS BECAUSE THE CAR WILL REPORT THAT "THIS SYSTEM HAS LOST POWER. PUSH AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS TO ENABLE THE SYSTEM." THE BACKUP CAMERA HAS ALSO FAILED TO TURN ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO REVERSE. SEE THE ATTACHED PHOTOS FOR PROOF.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THE ENGINE REVVED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE REMAINED ON, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. PRIOR TO THIS, WHILE DRIVING DIFFERENT SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED, LOST POWER, AND SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PERFECTION HONDA (2603 AMERICAN RD SE, RIO RANCHO, NM 87124, 505-221-5084) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NOTHING WAS DONE. ALSO, WHENEVER THE SPARE TIRE WAS IN USE, ALL THE SAFETY SYSTEMS, SUCH AS THE LANE KEEP ASSIST, LANE DEPARTURE WARNING, COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND IMMEDIATELY DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (SHEEHY HONDA, 7434 RICHMOND HWY, ALEXANDRIA, VA). THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED, BUT NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. APPROXIMATELY NINE MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED AND ABRUPTLY STOPPED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION ERRONEOUSLY SWITCHED FROM REVERSE TO THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WAS FAULTY. THE DOOR UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY TURNED OFF. A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80.

OUR 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE HAS A FEATURE CALLED IDLE STOP. THE FEATURE HAS MANY CRITERIA THAT MUST BE MET BEFORE IT WILL ACTIVATE. IT SHOULD JUST TURN OFF THE ENGINE WHEN THE CRITERIA HAVE BEEN MET IN AN EFFORT TO CONSERVE FUEL IN LIEU OF IDLING. WE ARE SEEING A RANDOM ISSUE WHEN THIS FEATURE ACTIVATES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF THE CAR ENTIRELY AND PLACE IT IN PARK. WE MUST MANUALLY START OUR VEHICLE AGAIN THEN PLACE IT BACK IN DRIVE TO PROCEED. WE'VE HAD IT HAPPEN THREE TIMES. ALL HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT STOP LIGHTS FOLLOWING A COMPLETE STOP. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE AT A STOP LIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE HIGHWAY. I'M CONCERNED WE WILL BE REAR ENDED DUE TO OUR VEHICLE BEING DISABLED AT AN INTERSECTION. IT'S CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE FIFTH TIME (MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE) TO HOPEFULLY FIND A SOLUTION.
