The transmission failed at 108k miles. Honda is charging 10000USD for repair. They want to replace the 9 speed transmission. This transmission is notorious for failure and Honda hasn’t issued a recall yet.

Dec 8, 2025

My vehicle repeatedly and unexpectedly shifts into neutral while in Drive, causing a sudden loss of power in traffic. This has happened multiple times without any input from me and has nearly caused a crash.

Summary: Engine seized due to internal bearing failure with metal shavings found in oil filter. Full Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden engine failure around 116,500 miles. The dealer confirmed the engine is seized and showed significant metal shavings in the oil filter and pan. I have performed all maintenance according to Honda’s recommended schedule using the correct oil and filters. Honda corporate denied assistance based solely on mileage, even though this issue matches symptoms described in current NHTSA investigation PE25-001 (connecting rod bearing failure in Honda 3.5L V6 engines). There were no prior warnings other than a brief check-engine light and rough running before the engine locked up. The vehicle was in motion at the time and could have caused a hazardous stall, serious injury, or death. Given that Honda has issued recalls for similar rod bearing defects in other model years (2015–2020) and this failure mode presents a clear safety risk (loss of power, engine seizure), I request NHTSA include my case in its investigation and compel Honda to extend recall coverage to 2018 Odyssey owners. I can provide dealer diagnostic reports, photos of the oil filter debris, and all maintenance records if needed.

Recently had the fuel pump recall completed. Within days had intermittent dash emissions light come on then go away. Then a few weeks later, while driving, my odyssey put itself into N and I coasted to a stop. It would not allow me to put the car into P or anything. I had to put the emergency brake on in order to not roll forward. The van at that point would not shift into any gear. It was towed to dealership and I was given the following 2K dollar repair needs. PROBLEM. ADVISE. [Other]: TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) AND TRANSMISSION SUB-HARNESS Needs replaced.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "Engine Management System Failure" was displayed on the instrument panel. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that there was a failure with the engine and the transmission. The dealer was then notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the engine or the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

On [XXX], while driving in traffic, my 2018 Honda Odyssey suddenly and without warning shifted itself into Park. The vehicle slammed to a stop in the middle of an intersection, stranding my family and creating a serious risk of collision and injury. The vehicle would not move afterward and had to be towed from the scene. After the failure, the dashboard displayed multiple warnings: “Transmission Problem,” “Stop Driving When Safe,” “Emission System Problem,” and *“Blind Spot Information System Problem.” The gear shift indicator also blinked. The Odyssey has remained undrivable since the incident. The vehicle is at Stockton 12 Honda in Sandy, Utah, where the dealer confirmed a hard transmission failure (RO #[XXX]). Honda Corporate opened two cases (#[XXX] and #[XXX]). Despite my repeated calls and emails, Honda’s assigned case manager verbally denied coverage on Sept 12, 2025, stating the denial would only be reflected in Honda’s internal case notes. This failure is identical to the defect described in NHTSA Recall 19V-299, in which the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) can reboot due to low voltage and cause the transmission to shift into Park while driving. Although my VIN is not currently flagged, my Odyssey EX-L uses the same ZF 9-speed transmission and TCU as affected trims. I have a tow record, witnesses, and video evidence documenting the event. The vehicle remains disabled, leaving my family without safe transportation. This is a serious safety defect that should require investigation and expansion of the existing recall. 2018 Honda Odyssey gear shifting switch letters are rubbing off. This caused the drive to click wrong button as they do not have letters to identify the functionality of the each button. This can cause accidents. I see many online forums customers are discussing the same issue. [XXX] [XXX] / [XXX] [XXX] This is manufacture defect and please be kind to investigate it. Engine has been running very rough the last 20k miles, and East Coast Honda in Surfside Beach, SC noted engine bearing wear prior to the rough engine performance during a service visit in May 2023. In June-July 2025 driving on [XXX] driving between Washington D.C. and Surfside Beach, SC, we went to pass and the engine cut RPM's drastically and went into 'limp mode' nearly causing an accident with the sudden decrease in speed. We have asked American Honda Customer Service [800-999-1009] to provide an engine evaluation but they have declined and have stated our VIN is not included in the rod bearing recall/TSB. We did mentioned about the further investigation for 2018 Honda Odyssey's but was advised any action we take would not be compensated since the vehicle is out of warranty by date and mileage (73,000 miles). Vehicle has a vibrating shake when you go about 26 to 40 miles per hour like it does not know on what gear to be me I took the car multiple times to the dealership, and after charging me hundreds of dollars they had the face to say it is what it is. That the design of the car. I even called the corporate and no one really cared. I am always scarred that engine or transmission will fail and cause an accident. On the last trip, as I was stuck in traffic, stop and go was hard on this condition as car wants to think on what gear to be.

Aug 19, 2025

The transmission is very jerky and has completely lost power before. It has refused to shift and stalled in the middle of the road. It is very scary.

Rod knock diagnosed and confirmed by dealership July 15, 2025. Van is currently at dealership and is available for inspection. I have paused work to allow Honda (case 15705425) and now this team the opportunity to diagnose and inspect first hand. Inspection and first hand visuals have only been completed by certified Honda dealerships. All warnings and my concerns are documented in our ROs with Honda dealerships. When any light or reminder came on, I immediately took the van to Honda for service. Safety: slow starts and sluggish acceleration. Noise that was not normal. Out to eat 30 minutes away from home July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Dealership thought initially battery but then kept van overnight and nod rock confirmed. Also repaired back suspension. Additional details: Problem has been reproduced and confirmed. Have been experiencing slow start, van not driving properly. Our family went out to lunch July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Waited handful of minutes and then started. Immediately took to dealership next day. Honda dealerships have done all servicing and repairs on this van. (I was told there are 55 repair totaling $22k for your research purposes.) Honda notified me July 29, 2025 that they will NOT offer any assistance and/or goodwill because of the age and mileage of the van. Escalating case 15705425 up Honda chain - we have been very loyal to Honda. As of today, July 31, 2025: Van sits at dealership; has been there since July 14, 2025. I have been advised not to drive the van, esp on the highway. I want to keep the van and want to drive it for many more years. Took very good care of it and followed all of Hondas recommendations for servicing. Just put brand new tires front suspension (March 2025) and rear suspension (July 2025) on it as well. Appreciate your investigation. I’m working diligently to do the right thing and allow the proper people time to investigate the van before any work begins on the engine.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the failure has caused the vehicle to hesitate while attempting to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions while driving on the interstate and the freeway. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the software needed to be updated and the vehicle needed to be driven approximately five thousand miles to correct the failure. The vehicle was repaired, and the transmission was replaced once before. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, the warranty department failed to return the call. The approximate failure mileage was 108,900.

As reported previously to Honda the vehicle jerks when accelerating at high speeds. It was recommended to die a transmission flush which was performed and did not resolve the issue.slow acceleration at times is also a safety issue especially on highways.

Honda issued a recall on the fuel pump December 2023. They did not have any parts available to replace mine. I had brought in my Odyssey Elite to Space Coast Honda multiple times before the recall stating my engine wouldn't crank. I was unable to get the fuel pump replaced until December 5, 2024. ONE YEAR after the recall. I am now getting Emissions System Problems and Stop Driving When Safe Engine Temperature Too Hot. The dignostics that were pulled were P219A Secondary P219A, P0420, P219A. Also, my intake manifold gaskets are leaking coolant. I have had nothing but problems with this van since April 5, 2023 with my car not starting and stalling. My kids and I were stranded at their school two times and there were multiple times at my work. I don't believe I should have to pay thousands of dollars for these items to be replaced since I believe they're an issue due to me driving on a faulty fuel pump. I even called Honda Customer Service multiple times and they told me to keep driving it even though I expressed concern for my kids and having been stranded multiple times. Both dealerships said there was nothing wrong even though I brought it in multiple times for the same issue.

Jun 3, 2025

Transmission failure. We had issues with acceleration and hesitation. When brought to the dealership they didn’t find anything wrong, but then the transmission ended up failing completely.

Jun 2, 2025

The vehicle would make noises and stalls during accelerations and decelerations. It would struggle to shift into gear, especially from 1st to 2nd gear. When the vehicle comes to a stop at traffic lights or stop signs, it's really hard to get the car to move when accelerating. In high speed on the highway, the vehicle would struggle to increase speed when accelerating and the vehicle would automatically slow down and get weighted down. This would result in having to pull over. Sometimes, the vehicle would not be able to be put into Park, and automatically shifts to Neutral not allowing it to be put into Park mode. When attempting to put it back onto Drive, the vehicle would not go and emission and transmission warning would start flashing. The majority of the time, the emission or transmission warnings would not flash. This is very frightening because I was not able to control the speed of the vehicle, and luckily when the car automatically shift to N and came to a stop, I was able to pullover to the side of the busy highway right on time. The car has been inspected for the same issues in the last 3-4 years by the dealership for the same problem. The transmission fluid got changed and that was all. Now it's happening again.

[XXX]: Van failed while driving on interstate / all dash / warning lights while driving on [XXX] / car inoperable while driving / Towed to Crest Honda, Nashville TN Feb 11, 2025: Crest Honda repaired airbag and replaced negative battery connector and cable (believed to be the source of the [XXX] van operations failure. Drove it home (6-7 miles) from Honda dealer. Later that evening, started van at house - all warning lights / would not go into gear. Towed to Crest Honda Feb 12. Feb 14, 2025: Crest Honda said transmission had failed, it was not the battery connector, provided a quote $7714. In March 2025, Crest HOnda replaced the transmission for total price of $7714.65 - I paid for the transmission. The transmission failed at 117K miles. 9 speed transmission issue: Ever since I purchased this vehicle around 50,000 miles in February of 2021 (mileage currently at 118,048), I noticed a very obvious delay in acceleration from a complete stop. Changing to eco drive mode and sport mode changes slightly, but still has delay. Transmission fluid has been changed 3 times since owning this vehicle and everytime it has, there was no noticeable changes in symptoms. Delayed acceleration occurs more consistently at normal operating temperatures. Brought vehicle to honda dealership after purchasing. They performed a TCM software update. Problem still occurs to this day. Multiple occasions occured where me and my girlfriend are driving and attempting to make a safe left turn only to proceed, but in process of attempt, the vehicle delays while facing oncoming traffic.

Mar 4, 2025

My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a heavy snowfall in January 2025. The control panel displayed an alarm, Power Tailgate Problem , and the trunk door could not be opened. I asked a professional who pointed out that it is usually due to water intrusion into the control unit located on the rear driver's side body panel, which causes the tailgate to fail to open, close normally, or even open accidentally. They believe that this is a manufacturing defect caused by the manufacturer and there is a safety hazard. For safety reasons, I went to the dealer for an inspection. They said they could not find the cause but that the control panel was broken and needed to be replaced. I had to spend a lot of money to replace it. But I still think that the problem was caused by the manufacturer itself.

Feb 12, 2025

In several occasions there is a delay in acceleration. This typically is happening when I take off from a stop sign and turning, others I have literally been on highway merging and loss all acceleration Al though I can hear rpm ramp up, there is no action till 10-15 seconds later. I am very lucky no was injured in that instance and could have been a terrible accident going 70+. I see this is an ongoing issue, and because it is not consistent in manner people fail to repair/research issue.

Dec 5, 2024

I just had several recalls completed on my van. The issue that they couldn’t fix (which I have seen on so many message boards) my car stalls when starting from a stop. If I’m at a stop sign and press the gas nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it will catch and take off throwing everything in the car and the people forward. It is terrifying! I’ve had it happen with cars approaching and just been a sitting duck, thank the Lord it engaged in time. This seems to be a very prevalent issue and I don’t understand why a recall hasn’t been done before someone dies. My trunk also doesn’t work automatically anymore and they said I had a leak that would be $300 to diagnose and $500 to fix. I know ther are lawsuits for both of these issues. Recalls need to be issued.

Nov 13, 2024

At approximately 70,000 miles, vehicle transmission failed after intermittently falling to go into reverse and transmission warning system shifting vehicle down while driving. Rebuild parts not available from manufacturer, replaced transmission with used part. Immediately after putting car back into service, engine began to knock severely. Dealer recommended full engine replacement. Car currently not drivable and has been parked for past 13 months.

Nov 13, 2024

Issue-1 High pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some VINs) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 Nine speed model. Issue-2 MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big Collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda ignores and is a disaster waiting to happen. NHTSA should look into this and recall all HONDA 2018 9 SPEEED ODYSSEYS to fix this issue. It is been 6 years and Honda comfortably ignoring this safety hazard especially for a vehicle meant for kids.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while stopped, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. On another occasion, the contact stated that while his wife was driving, the message "Stop Driving when Safe - Transmission Failure - See Owner’s Manual" was displayed. The contact stated that his wife pulled over to the shoulder of the road and parked the vehicle, and the vehicle became difficult to shift out of park. In addition, the contact stated that the RPM occasionally fluctuated and there was a delay with the vehicle responding. The contact also stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with an internal cylinder failure and that the 9-speed manual transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer several times; however, no failures were diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the local dealer to assist with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds... leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. I think it's the transmission but it could have to do with the fuel intake... it has been ongoing for months and months. The dealer has attempted to rectify but to not avail....very dangerous

Oct 5, 2024

UNKNOWN At random times I will push the gas pedal and the car does not engage at all to move. I will lift my foot up and down trying to engage the engine and it won’t. After a few times it will catch and the car takes off making the tires squeal, spin or jerk. It happens at random times, no warnings whatsoever that there’s a problem. It is very dangerous at intersections when turning left on green lights, when pulling out of parking lots. It’s to the point I am afraid to drive it at busy traffic times because it happens so often and I’m afraid of getting hit while my car will not move. We have told the dealership and they suggested we wait for the fuel pump recall to be readily available. I looked in forums and this seems to be a major problem for many other owners of the 2018 or newer. It started approximately two years ago and continues to happen, in fact happening more often.

Transmission hesitation when turning from stop. Scary when traffic is coming. Not safe and seems to be a common, known issue. https://www.odyclub.com/threads/2018-odyssey-having-1-3-second-acceleration-lag-from-stopped-or-rolling-on-9-speed-transmission.368250/ https://www.reddit.com/r/HondaOdyssey/comments/pxw7xz/2018_honda_odyssey_having_major_acceleration/ https://www.odyclub.com/threads/hesitation-on-acceleration.362860/

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly shifted to park(P), and the vehicle shut off while approaching a traffic light. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure recurred while driving and exiting a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23V751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000.

Forward collision warning comes up on vehicle. There is a problem with the transmission. the car automatically shifts itself from D to S.

Aug 13, 2024

I bought new and have 59,000 miles on the car. During the past year or two, when I get to a stop sign and about to cross or turn into a busy road (that has no traffic signs for the cars traveling on that road), the car hesitates when I step on the gas pedal, then after a second or two, the car lurches forward (abruptly) while screeching the tires. My analysis is that there is something about making several complete stops in short succession (as a driver would do in an attempt to inch into a busy intersection of fast moving traffic in order to get a better view and position the car for a smoother merge) which triggers the car to stall for a second or two. I say this because it does not happen at any other types of intersections. The danger here is that a second or two is crucial in avoiding a crash when you are trying to merge into a gap in traffic. Then after hesitation, the car lunging forward in an uncontrolled manner can cause an inexperienced driver to loose control of the vehicle during a turn. There are many similar complaints filed with NHTSA and posted on online owner forums. Many owners have reported to Honda, but Honda’s response is that this is how the car is supposed to drive. NHTSA, where are you? We need help on this

Aug 13, 2024

The vehicle often hesitates to accelerate when pressing the fuel peddle. This mostly happens when backing out of a driveway and placing the gear into drive but also has happened after coming to a full stop and then pulling out. The hesitation lasts about 1-3 seconds and could lead to a collision if I decide to pull out in front of oncoming traffic and anticipate the car to accelerate rather fast. Often, during the hesitation the instinct is to press the gas pedal harder, in which case, when the vehicle does accelerate it will spin the tires, making forward progress even more frustration and dangerous. This happens with both drivers in the family, it is not isolated to just once person's style of driving. This becomes a safety issue if you expect to merge into traffic and the vehicle does not respond. we have adjusted our driving habits in this car to assume it will not accelerate when from a full stop. We have not had a shop verify the condition. No warning lights or messages appear. The car is NOT in ECO mode. Doing a google search for the condition, it does not appear to isolated event.

Aug 5, 2024

At critical accelerating situations (turning, merging, passing...) the minivan will hesitate, and no power is delivered to the wheels. As a result, the car does not perform as intended and can cause an accident when turning, merging, or attempting to pass. The only resolution is to remove any pressure from the accelerator and allow the car 1-2 seconds to recover, then you can usually accelerate slowly. Sometimes this has happened multiple times in the same accelerating event. This happens on 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys with 3.5l V6 with ZF 9HP transmissions. This has happened multiple times and Honda has failed to correct this issue. This is a known issue and has been part of a class action lawsuit. The most recent incident occured yesterday and the vehicle automatically shifted into Neutral and would no long drive.

2018 Honda Odyssey failed transmission systems. This vehicle had recalls in regard to TCM module and softwares in past. Normally transmission system should last well over 150,000 miles for this type of vehicle. My car failed at 74000 miles. That too without any advanced warning. Vehicle was maintained and serviced at same dealership regularly where it was purchased. Honda is claiming its outside their 60000 mile powertrain warranty. Honda expects me to pay over 10,000 dollars for repair. I believe my vehicle is having issues with transmission related to TCM module recall of 2019 and Recall 04v176 of 2023. Honda is refusing to look in to possibility of my vehicle's issue could possibly related to those recalls. I believe those recalls need to be looked at and my vehicle should have been involved in those recalls. I have documented proof for all services performed and current vehicle inspection report.

Jul 29, 2024

My 2018 Honda Odyssey doesn't have any current vehicle recalls but it's is experiencing the engine stall while driving, the power sliding floors not locking properly and the power trunk making a grinding noise when it opens and closes. I had the vehicle inspected at the local Honda dealership and they told me there was nothing they could do about the vehicle stalling, the power doors not closing and the trunk grinding. From releasing the brake and pressing the gas, the vehicle will stall and then spin the tires as if I'm racing or burning rubber.

Jul 26, 2024

While driving, the transmission will go into limp mode and will not drive over 40 mph. Comes on and off intermittently. Will not show error code. Was almost rear ended by semi trailer when happened

Jun 10, 2024

On the week of May 3rd my car began to shift into different gears with no notice or reason while driving, when it would do this it would show a warning signal on the dash that stated"transmission issue!" And the gear letter would flash on the dash. I brought the car in to the dealership it was purchased from (Ira Honda Saco, ME) as the car was shifting into reverse and park while driving causing significant safety issues for myself and my children in the car. When I arrived I was told there was issue with loaners although the service employee was great in helping me find one eventually that day as I'm a solo parent with multiple children. However, when I brought the car I said there was a recall on the transmission for this exact issue. I was told my make model and year matched but not the VIN so it couldn't be the transmission recall/issue. Then I was told the issue was the fuel injectors but that they were not covered by any warranty so I'd need to pay out of pocket. Then I was told it was partially covered and I ended up paying out of pocket for the remainder and was told the car was all set no more issues, it's fixed, completely safe to drive. Now barely 4 weeks later on 6/1024 while driving on the highway the car slams into park with the same exact warning flashing on the dash. The car behind me nearly rear ended me and my seatbelt engaged as I was going 65mph and came to a complete halt, causing bruising to my chest and collar bone. I immediately brought it back to the dealership and they suddenly say it's the transmission (like I said last month) but that it's not under warranty and is $6300 to repair that Honda can't guarantee they can cover with a claim and they also don't have a loaner or any vehicle I can use to safely transport myself or my children. Yet the only reason I am at the dealership with a car that has now twice nearly caused severe injury events or death is due to the dealership's misdiagnosis of the issue and the guarantee the car was fixed

May 23, 2024

At around 25 miles per hour the vehicle has a transmission issue where the vehicle seems to hesitate, then downshift causing the vehicle to lurch forward. This happens regularly and started sometime before I acquired the vehicle with 48k miles. Honda dealer had no fix to the problem.

May 19, 2024

On April 13th, 2024 our son was driving the family 2018 Honda Odyssey (Approx 83,000 miles) in a nearby city. He was driving at 43 mph when the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral without his shifting it. He tried to brake using the brake pedal but was unable to stop or slow the vehicle. He also tried to accelerate and was unable to accelerate the vehicle. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and he was forced to use the emergency brake to stop the minivan. A good samaritan stopped and assuming that the battery was the problem, tried to help jump-start the vehicle -- but they were unable to start the car. Our son called us, and I drove 20 or so miles to his location. After trying a jump box in the vehicle, we called AAA. After trying a jump start and a new battery, At this point the technician said that the vehicle would need to be towed. The transmission of the minivan appeared to be locked and the towing company was not able to find a means to unlock the transmission. As a result, the front tires were placed on skids, which allowed the minivan to be drawn up onto the bed of the tow vehicle and towed the vehicle 20 miles to the local dealer, which had originally sold us the vehicle and had completed all recent maintenance. On Monday, the Honda service technician assessed it. We were advised that the 2018 Odyssey would require a new engine. After involving American Honda, we learned that the transmission was also affected, and the car would need to have $28,000 of repairs. After a month of discussions with American Honda, they closed our case without a teardown to identify root cause of the event. Our son could easily have been killed by being in a vehicle that could not be controlled while it was moving down the street. He used the only means available to him to stop the vehicle – the emergency parking brake. American Honda has told us that we must pay the $1600 to tear the engine apart to learn the cause. We have more history than can fit here.

When I drive the van just stops working. So I have pulled out into the street to cross traffic and on many occasions the car just won't drive like the transmission isn't in gear. It will eventually get into gear and go again but I have almost been hit before. I think my car should've been included in the transmission recall.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, the signal changed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated before responding. The contact stated that the engine almost stalled while driving at various speeds. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle also lurched forward while responding. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

My van driving on the highway and pop up two error cods at the same time, one is transmission system problem and the other is blind spot info system problem. Check it out with code P0741. And this incident happened 7 times in the past 6 months.

Our Tailgate is having an issue that triggered a safety issue with my wife driving on a highway then 3 lights popped up and car entered a limp mode. transmission issue, emissions issue, tailgate issue since then car is behaving normally but the tailgate latch is opening when we start the van and not working from fob (unlock) or exterior tailgate button. I have read other owners having an issue where the tailgate control module is getting submerged by water causing the unit to short and cause these issues. A car entering limp mode on the highway poses a threat to our family and others, I hope to see a solution in the near future.

The transmission has been acting weird - not shifting appropriately and jerking when shifting for about 2500 miles previous to this. The car has had routine maintenance and all recall work completed at dealership. At 86000 the transmission needs to be replaced. In addition, when it would get really wet or go through a car wash the transmission wouldn't function properly and not go into reverse at all.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey with 59,000 miles downshifts on its own when we are driving. This has happened about half a dozen times. It is disconcerting because the vehicle slows down. No one has hit us from behind. The Odyssey was at the dealer for a transmission fluid change recently. A multipoint inspection was done with no mention of the transmission or any other problems. There have been no warning lamps, messages, etc. displayed on the instrument panel. There are no service bulletins or recalls at this time.

Feb 20, 2024

It was the gear shift, changing from drivre mode to neutral, or from drive mode to completely shut off while I was driving on the the freeway and had to slow down because the vehicles in front of me were slowing down too, because of traffic conditions, the car problem has been confirmed by the manufacturer, there's even a law suit in process here in California for this matter. The car is right now in the dealership for repair, there was no light on in the dashboard warning. This started like to weeks ago, first time just went from driving mode to neutral. Second time shut off and turn on again, third time yesterday, from driving mode changed to neutral and finally completely shut down. I feel unsafe for my wife driving this car and for the kids .

The transmission is unreliable. You push the gas and it hesitates to accelerate or switch to the next gear to speed up. It can shake or rattle the car. Has a trouble at low speeds or shifting to the next gear to increase speed. This makes it dangerous to try to pull out into an intersection because the transmission or gear shifting doesn't always hit and you can get hit or injured. I always have to leave additional space while pulling into an intersection or merging into traffic in case the transmission slips. I have brought this to the attention of my local Honda service station and was told "that is just how this transmission works".

Engine developed a tapping noise. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed bad bearings that would have seized the engine very soon. Looks like a manufacturing defect of the crankshaft.

Oct 11, 2023

Here is what happened: 1). After the car driving for 10mins and engine warms up, stop the car, and turn off. 2). Turn on the car again, it shows message such as "Emissions System Problem", "Transmission problem", "Blind Spot Info System Problem" at the same time. The computer locks the car that doesn't allow the Transmission to change from "P" to "R", "N", or "D" position. The car fails to drive. 3). Leave the car for few hours and let the engine compartment cool down first, turn on the car again and those messages go away, and the car can drive. 4). After driving for a while, it repeats the problem from 1) ~ 3).

Numerous times, this 2018 Honda Odyssey would shift into neutral when trying to downshift at highway speeds after a long trip. The push button gear indicator would state the vehicle would be in "D" drive, but the vehicle would actually be in neutral. The only remedy would be to apply the brakes to allow something to reset, and the transmission would then engage as normal. This is very unsafe as one time this happened to me while I was ascending a steep bridge with my entire family in the vehicle. This happened multiple times in the 2 1/2 years with this van, and each time the Honda dealer replied that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Another issue with the transmission was during really hot weather. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot on a 100+ degree day. Upon entering the vehicle, the dash flashed the warning signs "Transmission error, pull over immediately when safe". "Transmission error, please apply the parking brake". The vehicle was taken directly to the Honda dealership with errors listed, and the Honda dealer indicated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The codes were reset and the vehicle was given back to me. A month later, the transmission went into neutral again during a trip at highway speeds. Being that I could no longer trust the vehicle with my family's safety, I was forced to get a new vehicle as Honda did not want to acknowledge the issue.

This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues, culminating in the need for three batteries in a six year. Period. From day one there were electrical issues with the auto stop start and the car in one occasion the battery completely died. Honda was unable to identify the issue and electrical issues. Continue to happen. in the last 18 months I’ve had numerous occasions where this auto stop start would engage at a stoplight stop sign in the middle of busy traffic, but would not start back up. I took it in for service and they cannot re-create or identify the issue. This is very scary when it happens as I have been on start and go traffic on the interstate on busy intersections and the car will not move nor can it be restarted for 5 to 10 minutes. Honda offers no solution to this dangerous problem. After months of not being able to fix this. Identify a problem the car no longer moves into reverse consistently Honda recommends new transmission. After becoming frustrated with Honda and feeling unsafe with my family in this vehicle, I had to trade it in for a new vehicle as no solutions were offered to make me feel safe driving it or to get it repaired effectively or identify why it keeps needing new batteries and has electrical dysfunction since purchase

Honda Odyssy 2018- While slowing down and then trying to accelerate does not accelerate and stalls in the lane and requires pumping of accelerator pedal before gear is changed. some time when this happens you can heard grinding noise of gear change. Last time it happened it showed 'Transmission system Problem' and 'Blind Spot Info system Problem' on screen. This is after dealer has looked at the problem and I was told it happened when tech test drove also. Dealer had updated software but it did not fix the issue. This is a safety concern, as if you can not accelerate to maintain the speed of other cars in your lane, cars behind you can get into accident.

Sep 27, 2023

I was driving and all of the sudden the vehicle slowly started losing power. A bunch of lights popped up on the dash and it turns out it was the camshaft and the sensor. The camshaft had been rubbing on the sensor for quite some time causing the engine to malfunction.

Sep 26, 2023

When driving the vehicle on September 8, 2023 LKAS (lane keeping assist problem), collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, blind spot info system problem, auto high beam problem and ACC (adaptive cruise control problem) came on. Pulled over and restarted the car and all warning lights remain. Transmission system problem error is now appearing with the letters blinking on the display. Turn the car off and back on until transmission problem error goes away. Vehicle going in for diagnostics early October.

Recently started to experience this issue. I have 41,000miles on this 2018 Honda Odyssey. It Jerks & delayed acceleration/hesitation upon acceleration while driving between 20‐35mph on local roads. It happens mostly with slowing down in traffic or upon stopping at stop sign & accelerating again. I am not experiencing this issue with freeway driving. I went to the dealership where I bought the car from. They asked me for $280 to just diagnose the problem, but I refuse to pay for just to diagnose. Currently, I am trying to research out my own. As the dealership has no clue about the issue. Please provide me with any related complaints & resolution for this problem.

No acceleration when pressing gas at very unsafe times like pulling out from a drive onto road or turning in intersection. I pressed the gas when it was clear to go and the car lagged in acceleration then jolted me out into the middle of the intersection where it lagged again and right before I was about to get T- Boned by another car it accelerated and I was able to make it into my lane last minute. This has happened multiple times but at least 3 times where it put me and my children in imminent danger of getting hit. I have taken it to dealership where they did a reset on some electric part of transmission and said it could take up to 1000 miles to notice a change. So far no change and still experiencing problems. My car also lunges or intensely rocks back and forth when put in park. I hear clunking when shifting at various times. The issues with acceleration make it extremely dangerous when needing to pass vehicles whether on highway or roadway. I do not trust this vehicle but because the dealer sold it over priced mixed with the $13,500 depreciation that has happened within just a year of buying it I am not in a position to get out of it. I am desperately seeking help to get out of this death trap of a car for mine and my children’s sake. I bought this vehicle with appx. 40,000 miles and have had regular maintenance. Currently setting at 82,000 miles. The car has had the same issues since buying it with 40,000 miles that it has today with 82,000 miles. I see where there is a specific recall for 2018-2019 Honda odysseys for this type of problem but my vin is not affected which needs to change as clearly my vin is very much affected.

When idle stop is activated, car will often stall on attempt to restart. Car can then not be started for 5-10 seconds. If the car does not stall, it will often hesitate 2-3 seconds before the engine restarts, leading to multiple near-miss accidents on turns. Electrical warnings will often flash after idle stop, such as "sliding door problem," "collision mitigation malfuction," "anti-theft system malfunction," etc. Battery has been replaced twice with no other remedy offered while in or out of warranty.

I scheduled a transmission flush service. After driving i noticed a jerking motion at about 25mph. Took back to honda and they charged me again to do another flush. Issue still persists.Service advisor said may be the transmission. Researching on line seems many have had problems with this transmission model. I knew another flush was not going to fix the issue but dealership was able to make an additional $283.

The transmission in my 2018 Honda Odyssey clunks and shutters and jerks forward when accelerating and jerks slow down when decelerating. Stop and go traffic I either can barely accelerate or rapidly accelerate after upshidting and almost hit the car in front of me. The transmission shudders and clunks and jerks

Aug 8, 2023

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car occasionally hesitates and then suddenly surges, especially when turning into traffic with vehicles fast approaching. After hesitating, the car accelerates rapidly with the tires screeching. Similarly, when travelling at slow speed, perhaps 40 MPH, and accelerating into a neighboring lane, the car quits accelerating for a brief moment before rapidly accelerating again. I can hear the transmission clunk occasionally as it selects another gear. It's as if the electronic communication between the engine and the transmission is lagging. The Honda dealer indicated the transmission and engine are fine. The brief second or two acceleration delay before overreacting has been embarrassing and I fear dangerous. The car has always behaved this way but it has gotten worse the last couple years. Currently have 54k miles.

My 2018 Honda EX-L RES has ZF 9 speed transmission and noticed following safety issues. 1. When I stop at the stop sign or red lights, then I push a gas pedal to take off right away the transmission is not engaged, rather booming sound and 3 second after it squeals the tire. It is very dangerous when I make right turn after I stop as cars in the main lanes may have hit me as my transmission does start right away. 2. When I drive local in 20-30 mph, the gear is 2,3 and 4 and the gear is shifting down hardly when I am off the gas pedal and it make my card terriblely slow down as I feel like I push the stop pedal and cars behind me honks as they think I doing a sudden stop.

Jul 20, 2023

The transmission has intermittent harsh or jerky upshifts with steady acceleration, or the MIL comes on with DTC P0756. The vehicle would be unable to shift into reverse thus causing potential traffic issues by stalling on the road. The shift would not engage in reverse, appears to be stuck in neutral and slowly slides.

Jul 14, 2023

Our van regularly hesitates when to accelerate from a stop. Example, when turning right on red pushing the gas pedal will provide some speed to get into the roadway, then it becomes unresponsive. Letting up and pushing the accelerator will cause the van to move again after about.5 to 1 seconds. Often the accelerator has to be pushed all the way to the floor, which causes the van to move aggressively once it does start to respond causing the tires to spin out. While the performance issue is annoying, this becomes a safety issue when stranded out in traffic.

Jun 23, 2023

I am having an identical issues as described in NHTSA ID Number 11526094. Vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Have been almost hit a couple times as it is unpredictable when this happens. This is a dangerous behavior and I cannot in clear conscience sell this minivan to another family. I have returned it to the dealer multiple times and they were eventually able to reproduce the problem and captured the behavior on diagnostic equipment. Their finding is that when the accelerator is slightly pressed, and then release (like one might do when entering an intersection to make a left hand turn) the transmission jumps to 5th gear. When the accelerator is pressed to complete the left turn, the transmission spends several seconds shifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd before finally accelerating. This delay opens up the opportunity to get hit. The dealer concurred that this was a problem but then contacted Honda and they said this is normal characteristic with 2018 and 2019 model Odyssey's with the 9 speed transmission. This may be a normal characteristic with this model year according to Honda but it is not acceptable behavior for any type of vehicle. It is just a matter of time before an accident will happen. It happens often and seems to be getting worse over time including irregular/rough shifts while driving. See attached documentation.

Jun 19, 2023

There are no warning lights illuminating. The 2018 Odyssey inconsistently will not accelerate when needed and it puts the driver and passengers in dangerous situations if there is other traffic. When the driver pushes down on the foot pedal for acceleration, the car acts as if it can't engage for a moment (like it is thinking about what it needs to do), it briefly freezes, but then will suddenly jerk into gear and jump. It is dangerous because it can happen when trying to accelerate onto the freeway or when trying to turn onto a busy road and there is no rhyme or reason as to when it is going to happen. There have been 2 close calls in which the other drivers acted defensively preventing crashes and on 1 instance, there were children in the car. We should not have to wait for an injury to have a problem considered and corrected.

Jun 8, 2023

The problem is with the 9 speed automatic transmission system. Yes, it is available for inspection. There is a delay in acceleration which has caused the vehicle to "stall" in dangerous situations such as pulling out onto a road with traffic, making a left turn with oncoming traffic, or needing to accelerate at a green light. There have been multiple incidents when an oncoming car has had to brake to avoid a collision because I have stalled temporarily in their lane. I have also nearly been rear ended as I stall after moving forward at a green light. The vehicle accelerates too slowly from a stop, then stalls for several seconds before over correcting and too much power causes the tires to spin and the car can get a little squirrelly if I am not extra careful. It happens often but not always and is getting worse and more frequent. There are also problems with rough shifting and delayed shifting that have been an issue since I bought it in 2018. I have taken it to the dealer many times and while the issue has been reproduced, they have never been able to identify a cause. One Honda mechanic said that his 2018 Pilot acts the same way and it is "normal" for that engine. The issue was reproduced during a recent inspection from an independent mechanic who sent me to a specialty transmission shop who said the transmission was fine and suggested that it was due to a tech issue and sent me back to Honda. The mechanics at Honda have not gotten stuck in front of an oncoming car on a road test so they treat the issue as a mild annoyance. No warning lights have gone on. The severity and frequency of this problem is increasing and I no longer believe the car is safe to drive. Honda does not have a fix and I am ready to sell it but I don't think it is safe for others to drive either and I don't know what to do. It is only a matter of time until this causes an accident.

Jun 1, 2023

When the accelerator is depressed and the vehicle is in drive, it does not accelerate. This has happened multiple times, the date provided is a representative date where others witnessed the issue and is not the first or last time it occurred.

Jun 1, 2023

On Monday, March 27th While driving at various speeds, the collision mitigation system message flashed on the instrument panel without anything provoking it/no real cause. I observed while driving the vehicle, the warning message repeatedly flashed on the screen before the entire instrument panel went blank. This includes the infotainment system restarting as well, alternatively, I was driving going between 40-60mph and the all-dashboard notification lights started flickering (lane departure warning, odometer, blind spot warning, Collision Mitigation System etc.) it continues to happen randomly while driving at unpredictable times the wheel does lock up for a short time and the vehicle is temporarily not under driver control. It was able to restore, and I was able to regain control of the vehicle other times its last for several seconds. I have captured this incident on video. Additionally, there is also an issue with the vehicle hesitating while accelerating from a stop even with Auto Stop disengaged. On Thursday, June 1st same issue as described above occurred at 8:10AM when issue occurred again the vehicle steering for a 5-8 Second Period was locked and not able to move. Shortly after, I began to record the vehicle. Within a 7-8 Minute Period I was able to capture on video it happening an additional 3 Times.

May 26, 2023

When driving the dash and instrument cluster will restart suddenly and the van will shift out of drive suddenly.

Apr 22, 2023

when starting from a stop, occasionally when the accelerator is first pressed, the van doesn't immediately accelerate, there is about a two second hesitation where the car does nothing, and then finally it engages and starts to move forward. This happens occasionally in DRIVE, but I don't think I have ever seen it in reverse. It seems to happen more right after the vehicle is first turned on. I have seen many others complaining in various forums about the same issue. Here's one site: https://www.odyclub.com/threads/2018-odyssey-having-1-3-second-acceleration-lag-from-stopped-or-rolling-on-9-speed-transmission.368250/ This has been happening for a long time, I don't recall when it first started to happen. the date I put below is pretty much a random date

On March 13, 2023 my Honda Odyssey 2018 would not shift out of "Park". The message,” Stop Driving When Safe. Transmission Problem. See Manual” appeared on my dashboard. I turned off the Odyssey and started it back up. After this I was able to shift into drive. This message never appeared before March 13, 2023. Later as I was driving, the Odyssey shifted into "Neutral" by itself without any action on my part. The vehicle became unresponsive, the Odyssey lost all drive train power as we were driving on a steep decline. I was only able to slow the Odyssey with the foot break. This was an extremely dangerous situation that put the safety of my whole family at risk. I was able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway out of on coming traffic. The next day, March 14, when I started the Odyssey it would not shift out of "Park" and the same error message about the transmission appeared. We were left stranded on the side of the road with freezing temperatures. The mechanic at the Honda dealership stated he could not get the Odyssey to shift out of Park until it had been running for 45 minutes. The problem was confirmed by the Honda dealership. The Odyssey was inspected by the Honda dealership. He could not determine the exact cause and suggested a new battery. I purchased a new battery, and the Honda technician installed it. I had the old battery tested at AutoZone, the battery passed the test, it was a good battery The Honda Dealership changed the Transmission fluid and updated the software of theOdyssey. After being serviced and repaired by the Honda Dealership, the same transmission problem happened again on March 21 as I was driving my boys to school in the morning, going down a decline, again the Odyssey shifted into "Neutral" by itself without any action on my part. The power train lost all power, I could not shift it into "drive". Again this loss of control put my family's safety at risk. This was the third time my family was left stranded.

Mar 12, 2023

I have a 2018 Honda odyssey 9 speed and I am well aware of the many issues people have been complaining of and I am experiencing many of those same issues. My number one issue is my acceleration. I need to step down all the way on the gas pedal to make the car move and once it does my rear tires spin because of the acceleration. I have also had many instances where my car will not accelerate fast enough while turning causing me to sometimes be stopped in on coming traffic. I have had my main screen turn off while driving but did not affect the car however and a handful where I will be stopped at a light and my car shifts to park. I have had the car brought into the dealer 3 times for these issues and all that was done software updates. I did have one instance where my check engine light was on and they replaced the fuel injectors which did not solve the problem.

Feb 24, 2023

My Honda Odyssey 2018 has a problem that sometimes, particularly during winter, that a lot of check lights are on, and sometimes the car starts to slide. The check lights may include the check engine light, the power steering light, the power brake light, and the transmission light. An independent mechanic determined that this is addressed by the Honda Service Bulletin 20-100, but Honda service representative denies a warranty coverage as they say the VIN is not in the range even when the Model, Make, and the diagnosis all matches (Honda Service representative: case # [XXX], [XXX]). INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I was on a road trip with my family and stopped at a gas station. When we were ready to leave I attempted to place the vehicle in drive but it was stuck in park (vehicle has a push button shifter) and multiple warnings started to show up including transmission disabled, blind spot monitoring disabled and one other warning that I can't recall. There were no prior warning signs and we did all of the recommended services. There were prior issues with the transmission not seeming to engage. You would press on the gas and nothing would happen (It almost seemed as if you were just cruising) and then, after a lengthy delay the transmission would suddenly engage. There was also some issues with the transmission slipping. We brought this up several times with different dealers and were always told that they couldn't replicate the issue and that there were no recalls on our vehicle.

Jan 17, 2023

The PowerTrain in my car has been giving me nothing but headaches since I purchased it in January 2022. Multiple times at intersections, the car stalls and starts going backwards, causing me to put the car in park and restart it to go forward. The problem is so severe that it happens almost every time I come to a stop. It's not just inconvenient, it's downright dangerous. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of helplessness when my car starts reversing in the middle of a busy intersection with oncoming traffic heading my way. I have taken my car to the dealer multiple times and they have attempted to fix the issue by replacing the transmission and a camera, but these repairs have not resolved the problem. I even had to have my car towed back to my hometown after it stalled in Dallas. The dealer assures me that the problem has been fixed, but it continues to happen, and it's getting worse. Yesterday, on January 18, 2023, the issue occurred again while driving in slow traffic, nearly causing a collision with the car behind us. My family and I were put in a very dangerous situation, all because of this faulty PowerTrain. I have been to the dealer over 5 times and they have yet to fix the issue. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with this car and the dealer's inability to resolve the problem. I am a loyal customer, and I expect better from a brand that I trust. This car needs to be recalled, and I demand that the dealer and the manufacturer take responsibility for their faulty product and take immediate action to rectify the situation. I should not have to continue living in fear every time I get behind the wheel of my car, and I should not have to continue to waste my time and money taking it to the dealer for repairs that don't work.

Own a 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring w/10 Speed Transmission just outside the powertrain warranty. The current Mileage is 115,863 miles. On 1/2/2023, while my wife was driving, she experienced severe jerking and gears slipping in Drive. The car continued to drive, but there was hesitation in gearing. The following day (1/3/2023), hesitation rapidly turned into the complete failure of the van to go into reverse. The car would not engage reverse, started blinking R, and was freewheeling like it was in neutral. Suddenly, the dash indicated transmission system failure + blind spot warning failure. All modes, Drive, Sport, Neutral, and Reverse, were flashing. Wife was able to get the van home, and I immediately took it to the dealership. The following morning, 1/4/2023 (today as of this writing), the dealership notified me the tech observed what he called “a death code,” indicating the transmission must be replaced. $11,000 repair is underway as of this writing. The problem is exactly similar to this reported and others in Odyssey Consumer Forums. It appears to be a Transmission Manufacturing Defect by Honda Car. Answers to questions: 1) Component Malfunction is Transmission System - and ADAS/Blind Spot. 2) Car was slipping and jerking on the motorway in the middle of high-speed traffic and trucks, endangering our safety. 3) Problem was reproduced 100% of the time personally and by the dealership personnel. 4) The dealer indicated a “death code” and that the transmission must be replaced. 5) Transmission system failure + blind spot warning failure, all modes, Drive, Sport, Neutral, and Reverse, were flashing the letter associated with the gear/mode selected.

Dec 22, 2022

The vehicle has a very significant delay in accelerating from a stop or slow roll. Often the delay is up to 2 or 3 seconds and has caused several near misses when attempting to cross traffic. It's inconvenient and more important, a safety problem. Upon research I have discovered it is a wide spread issue among Odysseys in this generation. It seems to be an issue with cars equipped with either the 9 speed or the 10 speed transmission.

Oct 27, 2022

The transmission does not accelerate properly from a rolling stop. When at a stop and slightly depressing of the accelerator to get the vehicle moving prior to making a turn (for example), if you take slight pressure off the accelerator pedal the vehicle will not accelerate until the engine RPM's fall below 1,000RPM. This causes a slight delay in acceleration as the vehicle is rolling but unable to accelerate. This poses a collision risk from oncoming traffic. I reported this issue multiple times with my local Honda dealership and was told each time that there was no issue, this is normal for a Honda and "this is a known issue with no fix". Three times with three different excuses. This has been occurring from around 30K miles and continues today with 72K miles. There are no warnings or lights. The dealer has reprogrammed the transmission computer and I have paid for a transmission fluid change hoping for improvement but nothing has worked. I have sent a message to Honda Motors about 4-6 months ago and has not heard a response from corporate or the dealership.

Vehicle suddenly shifts to Nuetral when driving forward at approximately 30mph to 55mph. The Collision warning system and the Emergency Braking system then shows falt/inoperative on the information display. This is an extremely dangerous situation that causes the vehicle to suddenly lose forward power.

Oct 17, 2022

The transmission has intermittent harsh or jerky upshifts with steady acceleration, or the MIL comes on with DTC P0716. Abnormal TCM adaptation values or a miscalculation in the TCM software causes the MIL to come on with DTC P0716. The harsh upshifts cause a momentary driver distraction which may cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission failed to operate as needed and was shifting hard. Additionally, the vehicle would hesitate to respond and there was an abnormal loud mechanical sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a Transmission Control Module (TCM) software update. However, the failures persisted. The contact also stated that the vehicle would jerk and would shudder when depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the rear driver's side and passenger's side sliding doors would reopen independently after being closed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 50,000.

While attempting to cross a road the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. This happened after entering the roadway with heavy traffic and my family in the vehicle, I pressed the accelerator pedal all the way down nothing. Then after a brief 5sec of fear the vehicle jerks into gear making everyone slam back into their seats. This has been reported by many owners on various forums, some of which were in accidents. This will not end well for a few drivers and their families. Honda technicians try and diagnosing this with no luck, said” I’ve never seen this issue, 64K miles great condition no damages to the transmission core unfortunately we are 4K miles over warranty!? At here is a recall for very similar issues same VF 9 speed transmission but my vin didn’t fall under the recall, American Honda said they weren’t going to help because I didn’t have “customer loyalty” I’m asking the technician to dissemble the transmission and take a bunch of pictures to try and help explain how this happened and how to avoid this from happening again because next time we may not be so luck.

Auto idle system engaged when the car was stopped waiting for a train to pass last night. When I took my foot off the brake to move forward, the car completely went dead. No engine start up after auto idle, no electrical system available for emergency flasher lights. No response from the van at all. This put us at considerable safety risk when we could not process through traffic, at night, on a dark country road. A kind passerby attempted to jump start the car for us and while the electrical system came back on momentarily, the engine would not turn over. After five attempts to jump start the van, we stopped trying. There was zero response from the van after that. We purchased this vehicle brand new in December of 2017. It has had electrical issues ever since the day we bought it. We have reported this to our Honda dealer several times over the course of the past 4+ years. Initially, the auto idle never worked. Then the sliding doors wouldn't shut all the way, reliably. They continue to cause issues and won't close all the way, without popping back open, about 60% of the time. The radio and entertainment center has malfunctioned. The collision warning has malfunctioned and alerts at times when there is nothing in the way of the vehicle. It has been several electrical issues after another. We have had multiple new batteries installed over the past 4+ years. Last night was the absolute greatest risk to our family's safety. The vehicle has experienced this "black out"/stall another time in the past year, but was temporary and came back on after a full restart of the engine. Last night, however, there was no hope to restart. The van was completely seized up and a tow truck had to drag it onto its flatbed truck, assuredly damaging our tires and transmission, potentially. We will have to have the van towed to the Honda dealer Monday morning (this incident happened last night, Saturday Oct 1, 2022.). Now we are without our primary family vehicle.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey elite regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. There have been several close calls when I have made a left turn/ right turn into traffic and the vehicle hesitates for a few seconds.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate, there was a delay in response from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure however, the TCM module software was updated and the vehicle operated normally. The contact stated the dealer informed him that the failure could reoccur. The manufacturer was contacted and suggested that the vehicle be diagnosed by the dealer. The failure mileage was 17,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated during acceleration with the transmission message displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a transmission specialist who related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V299000 (Power Train, Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

My wife was waiting outside in our vehicle with our kids while I was running an errand. She stated that she went to move the car and as she put it in reverse, the car rolled forward and automatically engaged itself into park. Then she stated that the van also started sputtering and shaking. She shut it off and got our kids out of the car. When I got back to the car, she was explaining it to me. I then started to troubleshoot by checking for blown fuses, bad battery connections and etc. Everything appeared as it should be. I turned the car on to the accessory mode, and it was throwing almost every code possible if not all of them. It showed emissions system, abs systems, hill start and several others. With the car still in accessory mode, I noticed the radiator fans were not coming on as they should have. Also the engine bay was hot, as in the air filter housing was hot enough that you could not keep your hand on it. After letting it cool down, I inspected the battery terminals again for any loose connections and could not find anything. We ended up having to get a tow truck to tow it to a shop to get it worked on. The van has 73k miles on it. The vehicle would not go into gear for us. It was also sputtering when running. It sounds like an electrical issue.

While attempting to cross a road the vehicle suddenly will not accelerate. This happened after entering the roadway with cross traffic coming at you. This happens more and more frequently and seems to occur after the vehicle initially rolls out from a stop or after coasting at low speed. If you press the accelerator pedal all the way nothing happens and you panic as traffic comes barreling towards you. Then after a brief moment of fear the vehicle jerks into gear making everyone slam back into their seats. This has been reported by many owners on various forums, some of which were in accidents. This will not end well for a few drivers and their families. Honda technicians when diagnosing this complaint say No Trouble Found or do not have a repair or recall for this.

I have taken my Honda to the dealership on multiple occasions, regarding lack of acceleration, after a complete stop. The engine does not engage after pushing the pedal down, so that my vehicle can move. It has a very long delay after coming to a stop. This is a huge safety concern, considering when making a right turn, and perceiving there is enough time to accelerate my vehicle, before another oncoming vehicle, there is a delay a potential accident will occur. This should never happen and my family has been in multiple situations where there was almost an accident. I love my Honda but this safety concern has made me rethink and potentially inform others of this matter. Please help me find a solution to this problem. I even purchased an extended warranty I hopes there may be a solution, but I’m beginning to lose hope. I have a family of 7, and I shouldn’t fear having to drive a stock vehicle, that my families life may be in danger due to this faulty engine delay. Please help a pleading father feel safe. Thank you and I hope to hear a response.

Own a 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite w/10 Speed Transmission that is still under powertrain warranty. Current Mileage is approx 51,400 miles. On 06/23 while driving on I-680 south bound driving my kids to school - experienced severe jerking and gears slipping in Drive. Car continued to drive, but there was hesitation in gearing. As a precaution decided to pull over and stopped the vehicle in Milpitas, CA. On restart the car was completely stalled, The car would not engage in "Reverse" gear and on pressing accelerator it seemed like it was in Neutral. All modes, Drive, Sport, Neutral and Reverse were flashing and got a warning in the dashboard saying "Transmission System Problem/Blind Spot Info System Problem". Also see this thread. https://www.odyclub.com/threads/2020-ex-l-10-speed-transmission-failure-at-11k-miles.358491/ - Problem exactly similar to this reported and others in Odyssey Consumer Forums. Looks like Transmission Manufacturing Defect by Honda Car totally endangered my and my 3 kids safety today and we fell lucky we did not stall on the highway. Answers to questions: 1) Component Malfunction is Transmission System - and ADAS/Blind Spot 2) Car was slipping and jerking on the Highway 680S in the middle of high speed traffic and trucks endangering our safety. Car completely stalled and was not drivable after pull over. 3) Problem reproduced 100% of the time on 06/23. Towed the car to nearby Honda Delaer. Awaiting further Diagnosis 4) Car has been towed to Envision Honda of Milpitas, CA and no further info received on root cause. Created case with Honda Automobiles. Case #13101086 5) Yes warnings in dashboards - recorded video - see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cImyqZl5cc.

Transmission delays in shifting from neutral to first on acceleration, when it engages it finally squeals the tires. Also at around 25 miles an hour it club is into the next gear and the whole car shudders. It is a safety issue and makes crossing roads scary. It has been looked at multiple (4?) times by different Honda dealers and they always reply it is functioning normally. There are no warning lamps or errors showing on the instruments but it is not normal.

My transmission on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has failed multiple times since I have owned the vehicle. I have brought this safety issue up to the dealer multiple times and nothing has been done to fix the complaint. My safety concerns have been ignored by Honda. The vehicle is shifting into park while it is moving creating a safety risk for my family and I. You can feel the entire car shift gears while driving and the vehicle shifts/accelerates forward on its own without pressing on the gas. I have almost hit the person in front of me when the car shift gears and accelerated on its own. The problem has been recently noticed by the dealership as well. The transmission warning lights did not come on prior to all of the failures. The transmission warning lights came on for the first time on 04/17/22, which was way after all the problems started occurring. Another safety concern that I have is my passenger side sliding back door will pop open while driving and often will not close. This has been witnessed by others in my child's car line. I have to pull over, stop the engine and restart the vehicle to get the door to close. This is a safety concern when I have a child sitting next to a door that opens while the vehicle is in motion.

Merging from west bound I-40 to south bound I-15, there was a slight incline. I accelerated to merge and change lane from 4 to 3, the van suddenly lost power. Engine was running and I could hear it rev up but transmission seemed to not have engaged. The car decelerated to almost 50 mph forcing me to move back to lane 4 in order to avoid being hit by an incoming 18-wheeler. It's most likely an transmission issue of old with Honda. The vehicle regained power after I let go of gas pedal for about 4-5 seconds. It happened again on I-40 near Flagstaff at high speed on my way home to Dallas from SoCal on Jan 2nd. To lose available power to wheels at high rate of speed, it's surely a safety hazzard. I don't feel safe to allow my wife to drive the vehicle. Please help investigate.

Mar 14, 2022

I have had 4 incidents where I was in heavy traffic and acceleration onto a busy freeway from a ramp and when I merged into heavy traffic, my car quit! Suddenly I had no power and was slowing down rapidly. The driver behind me got no warning brake lights and I had no place to go. Needless to say I was greeted with a loud long horn blast and luckily not the expected crash sound I was expecting. It took 3 to 5 seconds for my transmission to get back in gear and generate power. At 70 miles an hour you travel quite a distance in 3 to 5 seconds. The scariest incident was on a crowded four lane divided highway. I pulled out to pass a slow moving semi truck and as soon as I got into the faster crowded lane, the car lost power again. This time I had a semi truck barreling down on me and and one to my right side. Fortunately, the truck was able to slow down and not hit me, but again the long horn blast was accompanied by a rude gesture. If any of these incidents had resulted in an accident I probably would not have survived to even explain the cars malfunction. This is totally unpredictable and not reproducible. We took the car into a Honda dealership and reported the problem and were told they drove it and couldn't reproduce the problem and it was fine. I strongly suspect there have been multiple incidents where people were not as fortunate as I was and the failure resulted in serious rear end collisions. It would be interesting to see if Honda vehicles with this year CVT have seen an increase in rear end collisions. I hope I am not a victim of a fatal collision due to this defect, but I can't help but feel nervous any time I am merging into traffic or passing in heavy traffic. This problem has been reported before by others as a quick internet search confirms. It would be a very expensive recall for Honda, but what price do you put on safety and a human life. Friends have suggested I get a different vehicle. I can't afford this in today's economy.

Car had 60,000 miles when my wife was driving and stopped on a red light the car never moved again, check engine light turned on and the car put itself in park, she couldn't shift to drive or reverse. The transmission stopped working, no prior notifications, no weird noises it just stop working, I got to her and tried everything but I had to eventually tow it to the dealership. After a week of troubleshooting we were told a new transmission was needed, at 60K Miles! Thank god I opted for the extended warranty and only had to pay $800 of deductible, if not it would have been a $8K repair, it is unacceptable that a transmission stop working at 60K Miles!

Nov 23, 2021

The transmission started shifting hard on November 20th, 2021 while driving 60-70 mph on the interstate. I was on a Thanksgiving trip (Indianapolis, IN to Venice, FL) with my wife and three kids ages 8, 6, and 4. We were on I-75 north of Atlanta when the transmission shifted hard up and down around 2000 rpm. After about four hard shifts the van lost the ability to accelerate (no amount of throttle increased vehicle speed); no dash indicators or warnings. At the time we were going around 60-70 mph when we lost acceleration and I had to coast the van to the side of the road through the northern Atlanta traffic. The transmission did come back and I was able to get of the next exit and take the van to the Honda dealer. The transmission continued to hard shift on the approximately 15 minute drive to the dealer. I did leave the van with the dealer, but before I left I tried to put the van in reverse and it would not move. The dash and button suggested I was in reverse but there was no function, and at that time I got a transmission problem warning. Prior to trying to reverse the vehicle I did not get a warning. So while on the interstate when it was a real problem the vehicle did not give any indication of what was wrong; so I’m glad I was driving and not my wife or someone less capable in a dangerous driving situation. Honda looked at the van on Monday November 22nd and told me I needed a new transmission at a cost of $9,300. The van was purchased in March of 2018 and currently has around 69k miles on it. I don’t believe anyone would agree that a transmission replacement at 69k miles is acceptable. This transmission failure is on top of the RES problems that have persisted for multiple years now. If Honda doesn’t contribute financially to the transmission repair, I have no reason to buy another Honda. My van has been nothing but problems. The RES is unreliable for the family and the transmission failure left us stranded 500 miles from home.

The transmission will occasionally not engage in gear in situations where the driver is accelerating slowly from a stop, and then has to let up on the accelerator as to let a car pass, and then applying pressure on the accelerator again. The minivan will stall, not because the engine died, but because the transmission will not engage in gear. It will then jerk in gear causing the tires to lose traction since the engine is reving. The last times this occurred was Nov. 1 and 2, 2021. On Nov. 1st when I was leaving a driveway, I paused to let a car cross in front on me and then attempted to accelerate onto the intersection in front of a semi. The minivan wouldn’t move since it wouldn’t engage in gear. My daughter was screaming at me since the semi was barreling down. The transmission then slammed in gear, tires screeched, and the minivan accelerated. I took the minivan to a Honda dealer on Oct. 1,2021, but they couldn’t find anything. They checked software and DTC and no codes stored or active. This transmission issue has occurred occasionally since the minivan was new but has become much more frequent in the last three or four months.

The contact's parents own a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted to drive however, the vehicle failed to move. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission software needed to be reset. The contact stated that the transmission software was reset however, the vehicle stalled inadvertently while driving. The warning message "Do Not Drive, Transmission Trouble" and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed back to the dealer who reset the transmission software however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed back to the dealer for the third time and the transmission software was reset; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to a second dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle was towed back to the second dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that the transmission was replaced however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

My 2018 Odyssey at 62000 mileage right now, there is happen a lot of delayed response when accelerating, then start fast, it was scary while I am at middle of intersection waiting for left turn, or at stop site and or red lights. Is this an SAFETY ISSUE? I feel somedays I may get hit accident from this issue.

Jul 23, 2021

The transmission on this vehicle is super jerky when accelerating at low rates of speed and decelerating. The extreme concern is when accelerating from being completely stopped. More than once I have almost been in a major accident because when I pushed the accelerator the vehicle took a second or two to begin and once it accelerated it was extreme to the point of spinning the wheels and the vehicle being moved too late and in the middle of an intersection with a vehicle headed right towards us. If the car had accelerated when the gas was pushed like it should I would have not been in this predicament. This is very concerning and not how this vehicle should perform.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT MY CAR ALARM WENT OFF FOR NO REASON AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT OFF BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STUCK IN A LOOP OF POWERING ON AND OFF. AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH SUGGESTED A FAILURE OF ENGINE AUTO IDLE. I PUSHED THE ENGINE AUTO IDLE OVERRIDE BUTTON AND MANAGED TO TURN CAR OFF. NEXT MORNING I JUMP STARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW ERRANDS. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. THIS TIME PUSHING THE ENGINE AUTO IDLE OVERRIDE DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE ALARM, BUT COULD NOT BREAK THE LOOP OF THE CAR POWERING ON AND OFF. I HAD TO LET THE BATTERY DIE. I TRIED JUMPING IT AGAIN BUT IT NOW WON'T POWER ON LONG ENOUGH TO TRY TO START. HONDA TOLD ME I WAS ON MY OWN TO GET IT TOWED IN. TOW TRUCK CAME BUT THERE IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION ' THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY SHIFT THIS VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO POWER THE CAR ON AND USE THE TRANSMISSION PUSH BUTTONS TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. HONDA IS REFUSING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE GETTING THE CAR IN TO BE LOOKED AT. 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION IS DANGEROUSLY UNPREDICTABLE WHEN ACCELERATING. ESPECIALLY FROM FULLY STOPPED CONDITION. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER ADVANCING STRAIGHT AHEAD OR TURNING INTO EITHER DIRECTION. TERRAIN CONDITIONS DO NOT SEEM TO AFFECT THIS BEHAVIOR. THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE WIDELY VARIABLE RESPONSES TO A CONSISTENT APPLICATION OF THROTTLE. VEHICLE MAY, WITHOUT ANY WAY FOR THE DRIVER TO PREDICT, 1) ACCELERATE WITH A NORMAL PREDICTABLE RESPONSE TO THROTTLE PRESSURE, 2) RESPOND TO THE SAME THROTTLE INPUT BY VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATING (EVEN IF THE DRIVER SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES THROTTLE INPUT) OR 3) IMMEDIATELY. NOT MOVE AT ALL WHILE ENGINE REVS, THEN MOMENTS LATER, THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE SO RAPIDLY THAT IT LAUNCHES INTO TRAFFIC OR THE TIRES FIRST LOSE TRACTION BEFORE IT LAUNCHES. IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE CONDITION IS EXACERBATED INTO AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS LACK OF VEHICLE CONTROL.

I HAVE HAD THIS VERY PROBLEM IN MY 2018 EX WITH NAV RES. I'LL BE ON THE HIGHWAY, GOING 65MPH+, AND I WILL ACCELERATE TO CHANGE LANES OR PASS AND THE ENGINE WILL SEEMINGLY STALL FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. AS I PRESS THE GAS, THE CAR ACTUALLY DECELERATES AS IF IT'S COASTING IN NEUTRAL. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, IT REENGAGES, THE ENGINE REVS A LITTLE, AND THE CAR BEGINS ACCELERATION. I ALSO OFTEN NOTICE THAT THE VAN DOES A SIMILAR THING WHEN I'M ACCELERATING FROM A STOP TO ENTER TRAFFIC OR MAKE A TURN. WHEN I HIT THE GAS, THE CAR COASTS FORWARD FOR A SECOND BEFORE ACTUALLY ACCELERATING. IT IS ACTUALLY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN THERE HAS BEEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY 'CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM.' TODAY MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD OPEN A CASE WITH HONDA, WHICH I DID. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 9-SPEED TRANSMISSION WAS DISCONTINUED BECAUSE CONSUMERS 'COMPLAINED' AND 'DIDN'T LIKE IT.' THEY FURTHER SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE COULD NOT FIX IT. IN THE CASE OF MY VAN, IT IS DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS. MY SON IS LEARNING TO DRIVE AND I AM FEARFUL FOR HIS SAFETY. I HAVE FELT IN DANGER IN THIS CAR MYSELF. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT TO WHOM I COULD SPEAK TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS, I WAS DIRECTED TO 'PAGE 2 OF THE ONLINE OWNER'S MANUAL.' THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FREQUENTLY WITHOUT RESOLUTION.

THE 10-SPEED TRANSMISSION ON MY 2018 HONDA EX-L ODYSSEY VAN SLIPS. THIS HAS INTERMITTENTLY HAPPENED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, BUT IT IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. THE SLIPPAGE OCCURS MOST OFTEN WHEN STARTING AFTER A STOP. THE ENGINE WILL REV FOR TO A FULL SECOND BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION "CATCHES" AND STARTS TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL START WITH A JERK, OTHER TIMES, THE ACCELERATION WILL BE SLOW. THIS UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION MAKES IT DANGEROUS TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I'VE HAD SEVERAL "NEAR MISS" INCIDENTS WHERE THE UNPREDICTABLE TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND HONDA NEEDS TO REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY LEST LIVES BE LOST.

THIS IS A FACTOR THREAT WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. HESITATION CAN AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HONDA OF NA NEEDS TO GET TO WORK AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY ISSUE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE HURT.

I HAD THE HONDA ODYSSEY IN AT LEAST 8 TIMES FOR A JERKY TRANSMISSION. IT WAS ACTUALLY REPLACED AT 15,000 MILES (1/21/19) WITH A NEW ONE, NO PROBLEM FOR ANOTHER 15,000. THEN IN SEPT OF 2019 THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED AFTER 3 SERVICE CALLS AND NUMEROUS FAX AND TELEPHONE CALLS BASICALLY HONDA CUSTOMER CARE SAID I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. THEN ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING THRU BUSY DOWNTOWN GRAND RAPIDS THE ODYSSEY DOWNSHIFTED ON ITS OWN WHILE THE WIFE AND MOTHER IN LAW WERE DRIVING. MY WIFE ALMOST LOST CONTROL BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT I TRADED THE CAR IN. AND SENT A LETTER TO HONDA CUSTOMER CARE AND BETTEN HONDA IN MUSKEGON THAT I SUGGEST THE CAR COMES OFF THE ROAD. AS I KNOW THE NEXT PERSON WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE ISSUE IS THAT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE AND CAN NOT BE RECREATED OR DETECTED BY A COMPUTER CHECK. BUT IT IS VERY REAL. TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS WILLING TO LOSE 12,000 DOLLARS. NOT AN EASY PILL TO SWALLOW. MY HOPE IS THAT NO ONE ELSE GETS HURT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM, BUT I CAN SEE IT COMING.

VEHICLE EXPERIENCES ROUGH SHIFTING WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND SPEEDING UP IN STOP IN GO TRAFFIC. IT IS LIKE IT FALLS INTO GEAR, AND NOT A SMOOTH SHIFT. VERY DISAPPOINTED FOR A $33,000 PURCHASE. THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY, OR ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS.

THE VEHICLE IS HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. THE SPEED SEEMS TO VARY, THE RANGE IS BETWEEN 24 AND 33 MPH. IT SEEM TO BE MOST PREVALENT AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME, 45 MINUTES AND LONGER. THEN WHEN AACCELERATING GENTLY FROM A STOP IT CAN LURCH WHEN SHIFTING, OR SHIFT HARD AND MAKE AN AUDIBLE CLUNK. OTHER TIMES, NOT HAVING BEEN DRIVEN FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, IN THE SAME SPEED RANGE, 24 TO 33 MPH, DURING GENTLE ACCELERATION IT DOES NOT SHIFT EASILY OR SMOOTHLY. THERE IS NOT NECESSARILY A CLUNK (THERE CAN BE), BUT IT DOES NOT SHIFT NORMALLY OR SMOOTHLY, I WOULD DESCRIBE IT A MISS OR LURCH. IN BOTH CASES IT WILL SHIFT, BUT NOT AS IT SHOULD. THIS BEGAN AROUND 17,000 MILES. I AM NOTICING VERY FINE VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THROUGHOUT THE FRONT END, ITS NOT ALL THE TIME, BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT. I AM UNABLE TO ASSOCIATE IT WITH ANY PARTICULAR SPEED OR STRETCH OF ROAD, BUT IT DID NOT DO THIS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW.

AUTO SHIFTING ANYWHERE FROM 20-30MPH RESULTS IN HARD SHIFT OR KNOCK. WHEN VAN IS DOWNSHIFTING THERE IS AN ACCELERATION OR KNOCK. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 22,000 MILES. NO EXPLANATION FOR THE CAUSE. THIS WAS NOTICED ABOUT 3 MONTHS INTO OWNING THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW AT 8 MILES FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP. IT TOOK THEM 13 MONTHS OF A CONTINUOUS CYCLE OF GOING INTO THE HONDA CERTIFIED SHOP FOR THEM TO BELIEVE US. NOW OUR VEHICLE AT 25,000 MILES CONTINUES TO REPRODUCE THE SAME PROBLEM.

TRIED TO PULL OUT OF PARKING LOT ACROSS 2 BUSY LANES TO MAKE MY TURN AND CAR WENT INTO IDLE WHILE DRIVING, HIT THE GAS PEDAL SINCE CARS WERE COMING AT HIGH SPEED AT ME AND IT WOKE UP. A DAY LATER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY HONDA APP CALLED UPDATE PARK LOGIC SAFETY RECALL AND SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT IMMEDIATELY FOR 4/29/19 TO BE TOLD THEY GET THE SAME COMPLAINT OFTEN AND CARS BROUGHT IN. THE AUTO IDLE THAT COMES ON AUTOMATICALLY SHOULD BE ACTIVATED BY BREAK PEDAL AND WOKEN UP WHEN LET GO BUT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING IS, IT ACTUALLY COULD GET ACTIVATED IF SOMEONE WITH BIGGER FEET ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHES THE GAS PEDAL. NOT SURE THAT IS TRUE BECAUSE NOBODY HAS THAT BIG OF FEET TO PRESS FULLY BOTH GAS AND BREAK PEDAL AND IDLE DOES NOT COME ON UNLESS BREAK PEDAL IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY. THIS IS SERIOUS ISSUE IF YOU TRY TO PULL OUT OF PARKING LOT INTO TRAFFIC AND CAR JUST REFUSES TO GO BUT HONDA KEEPS STICKING TO SAME STORY AND BASICALLY WANTS TO MAKE ME BELIEVE BOTH BREAK AND GAS PEDAL WERE PUSHED AT SAME TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHICH IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH MY SIZE 7 SHOE AND IF THAT WAS THE CASE WHY DID THE CAR MOVE OUT OF PARKING LOT AND DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET? I POSSIBLY TOUCHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT DEFINITELY NOT PUSHED IT AND HONDA IS TELLING ME "SAFETY SYSTEM FOR THE BRAKE OVERRIDE IS WORKING AS DESIGNED, IF BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL ARE PRESSED AT SAME TIME THE SYSTEM THINKS YOU ARE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE SO IT CUTS POWER TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL ACCELERATION". BUT IF I AM PULLING OUT IN THE BUSY STREET WHY WOULD I BE PRESSING BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL, ONLY GAS TO GET AWAY BEFORE I GET TAKEN OUT OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN EXCUSE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT.

I'VE HAD MY 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING FOR 2 MONTHS; IT HAS 2600 MILES. MY VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO PARK WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE! THE CAR MADE A POPCORN/GRAVEL SLAMMING AGAINST THE CAR SOUND WHILE FELT AS THOUGH THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE VAN WAS TRYING TO SEPARATE FROM THE TOP!! TALK ABOUT FRIGHTENING! IT BRIEFLY FLASHED ""COLLISION MITIGATION"-SOMETHING,, BUT IT WAS JUST ON THE SCREEN FOR A HALF-SECOND. I PULIED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PRESSED THE DRIVE BUTTON. IT HAPPENED AGAIN MAYBE 10 MINUTES LATER ON A BUSY ROAD TRAVELING AT 45MPH. I ARRIVED AT MY FIRST DESTINATION, RESEARCHED HOW TO TURN OFF THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, AND CONTINUED TO MY SECOND DESTINATION. IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY TO THAT DESTINATION, FLASHING THE SAME WARNING SO QUICKLY THAT I COULDN'T READ IT, SAME NOISE, VIBRATION. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I BOUGHT IT. THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. "BEST EDUCATED GUESSED" THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE PROBLEM, THOUGH I NEVER RECEIVED A LOW BATTERY WARNING FROM MY VEHICLE, AND THEY PERFORMED A BATTERY RESET PROCEDURE. THE DEALERSHIP EXPECTS ME TO DRIVE MY FAMILY HOME IN THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT CHANGING OR EVEN INSPECTING THE TRANSMISSION OR PARKING PAWL, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE LOAD POPCORN/GRAVEL NOISE. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA AND A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED.

TWICE IN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP, THE CAR WAS PARALLEL PARKED AND I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE (PUSH BUTTON SIFTER). UPON THE VEHICLE BEGINNING TO MOVE IN FORWARD MOTION IT WOULD IMMEDIATELY SHIFT BACK INTO PARK. I REPEATED AN IT DID THE SAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN. EVEN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING; I HAD THE SAME ISSUE. BOTH TIMES THIS OCCURRED, HAD TO GO IN REVERSE FOR A SHORT DISTANCE IN ORDER TO GET THE VAN TO THEN MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT ALMOST INSTANTLY SHIFTING BACK INTO PARK. IN THE SECOND CASE THERE WAS NO VEHICLE PARKED IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME AND I STILL HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I DID RECORD A VIDEO OF THE ERRATIC BEHAVIOR ON 8/26/2018 (SECOND TIME) .

WITH APPROXINATELY 10,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION UNDER PERFORMS. WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY AT SPEEDS UNDER 30MPH, THE TRANSMISSION STRUGGLES TO SHIFT SMOOTHLY. IT ALSO MAKES A LOUD JERKING SOUND AND MOTION WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SOMETIMES HESITATES TO SHIFT, ALLOWING YOU TO BE ABLE TO FEEL THE VAN SLOW DOWN WHILE IN PROCESS OF SHIFTING, APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS LATER YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL IT GO INTO GEAR. LASTLY, THE PICK UP ON THE VAN IS SLOWER THAN MOST CARS I HAVE DRIVEN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PERFECTION HONDA (2603 AMERICAN RD SE, RIO RANCHO, NM 87124, 505-221-5084) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NOTHING WAS DONE. ALSO, WHENEVER THE SPARE TIRE WAS IN USE, ALL THE SAFETY SYSTEMS, SUCH AS THE LANE KEEP ASSIST, LANE DEPARTURE WARNING, COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. 1. ONE OF THE TWO KEYS PROVIDED DID NOT OPEN THE DOORS. WE TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND IT WAS REPROGRAMMED. 2. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK, NOT EVEN FROM THE INSIDE. THEY HAD THE DOOR LATCH REPLACED. 3. LAST WEEK THE BACK DOOR WOULD CLOSE BUT WOULD NOT LOCK BY ITSELF. ON THE WAY TO THE SERVICE CENTER, WE WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND SHUT OFF. AN "EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ON THE DASH. WE CALLED ROAD ASSISTANCE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SHOP. THEY RAN EXTENSIVE TESTS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE TECHNICIAN WORKING ON IT, HOOKED UP A COMPUTER AND TOOK IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY HE CALLED AND INDICATED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL COMPUTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD ORDER IT TO HAVE IT REPLACED. TODAY.
