Summary: Engine seized due to internal bearing failure with metal shavings found in oil filter. Full Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden engine failure around 116,500 miles. The dealer confirmed the engine is seized and showed significant metal shavings in the oil filter and pan. I have performed all maintenance according to Honda’s recommended schedule using the correct oil and filters. Honda corporate denied assistance based solely on mileage, even though this issue matches symptoms described in current NHTSA investigation PE25-001 (connecting rod bearing failure in Honda 3.5L V6 engines). There were no prior warnings other than a brief check-engine light and rough running before the engine locked up. The vehicle was in motion at the time and could have caused a hazardous stall, serious injury, or death. Given that Honda has issued recalls for similar rod bearing defects in other model years (2015–2020) and this failure mode presents a clear safety risk (loss of power, engine seizure), I request NHTSA include my case in its investigation and compel Honda to extend recall coverage to 2018 Odyssey owners. I can provide dealer diagnostic reports, photos of the oil filter debris, and all maintenance records if needed.

FAILED MONOCULAR CAMERA : It is a very common issue across majority of HONDA ODYSSEY. It's the overheating of the camera and start to malfunction, causing all the warning systems lights to illuminate. A lots of people and families who have owned or currently owns HONDA ODYSSEYS minivans have either faced this problem in the past or having it more commonly now. Due to the malfunction caused by the FAILED MONOCULAR CAMERA, it tends to automatically disables the Lane assist function, Engine light comes on, Cruise control get disabled and two other warning comes on the dash. Please note that there are a lots of families who own these HONDA ODYSSEY have been facing this manufacturing fault that HONDA needs to address.

Today I was driving on my road and there are small hills. I was going around a curve i take every single morning and my car kicks really hard as if it is having trouble changing gears. sometimes it makes loud noise. This has been happening for years now and Honda is not addressing it. There is an issue with the 9 speed transmission in these vehicles that have been dealing with recalls. This makes driving scary and my kids are now scared to drive to school in my vehicle. It needs to be addressed as my family is now noticing how much honda has put us in danger knowing these recalls were not really taken seriously.

On [XXX], while driving in traffic, my 2018 Honda Odyssey suddenly and without warning shifted itself into Park. The vehicle slammed to a stop in the middle of an intersection, stranding my family and creating a serious risk of collision and injury. The vehicle would not move afterward and had to be towed from the scene. After the failure, the dashboard displayed multiple warnings: “Transmission Problem,” “Stop Driving When Safe,” “Emission System Problem,” and *“Blind Spot Information System Problem.” The gear shift indicator also blinked. The Odyssey has remained undrivable since the incident. The vehicle is at Stockton 12 Honda in Sandy, Utah, where the dealer confirmed a hard transmission failure (RO #[XXX]). Honda Corporate opened two cases (#[XXX] and #[XXX]). Despite my repeated calls and emails, Honda’s assigned case manager verbally denied coverage on Sept 12, 2025, stating the denial would only be reflected in Honda’s internal case notes. This failure is identical to the defect described in NHTSA Recall 19V-299, in which the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) can reboot due to low voltage and cause the transmission to shift into Park while driving. Although my VIN is not currently flagged, my Odyssey EX-L uses the same ZF 9-speed transmission and TCU as affected trims. I have a tow record, witnesses, and video evidence documenting the event. The vehicle remains disabled, leaving my family without safe transportation. This is a serious safety defect that should require investigation and expansion of the existing recall. The Auto Engine Idle Stop causes the car to die while at stop lights, stop signs, in the middle of intersections. Etc. when disengaging the AIS the engine stutters and then displays “Shift to Park” then it says to push the brake to start the car but it doesn’t always start up. Sometimes it requires opening the door. Sometimes the collision mitigation system turns off after as well. And the entertainment display turns off or says “No Audio”

The Foward Looking Camera is failing and causing all the ADAS not to work and has all the lights on the dash. The code comes back as U3000-49 which is a multi purpose camera failure.

I bought my van used in March of 2025. within 6 weeks I noticed when accelerating my van hesitated about 3 seconds before going when I went to take-off. This has caused great concern . Last week it caused me a accident because of the delay in acceleration. Luckily I was not hurt but did cause a accident. I feel they're should be a recall to fix this after reading many complaints about the same issue.

As you are driving the car, out of nowhere, you will hear a very loud chainsaw noise coming from the engine compartment that will last a few seconds, immediately after the noise the car seems to roll as if the engine is not in gear or there is no gas going into the engine even though you are pressing on the gas pedal. This has happened around 5 times over the last month. It doesn't happen every time we drive the minivan. This can be very dangerous as you can imagine that when you are pressing on the gas pedal as you are driving at 30, 40, 60 mph, and the car engine just seems to disengage for a few seconds. I took the minivan to the Honda dealership. They first said to change the transmission oil first to see if that fix the problem. They said if by changing the transmission oil didn't fix the problem then they would need to replace the transmission. Within the first week after getting the fluid changed the problem came back. The minivan is now back at the dealership, and I expect that the transmission is going to be replaced. The minivan doesn't have even 50,000 miles yet. No warning lights has shown up. The problem seems to come and go without any warning.

The Auto Idle Stop system causes the engine to stall or fail to restart after being stopped. The error that comes on sometimes says "Collision Mitigation System Problem" on the dashboard, or sometimes "Transmission Problem. Apply Parking Brake When Parked", but either way it happens when I release the brake to drive again after a stop when the Auto Idle Stop comes on. To fix, I'll have to turn off the car and turn it back on.

The tailgate module has been fixed three times by Honda, along with the tailgate being resealed by honda, however, the car continues to leak water through a seal in the drivers side upper rarea. The electrical components and fuse boxes have been full of water causing the vehicle to turn on automatically, have every light illuminated, tailgate open on its own, tailgate won’t close, no turn signals, no power to infotainment center, infotainment permanently displaying back up camera while in drive mode. The tailgate has been resealed by Honda (balise Honda of West Warwick) in March of 2024 and vehicle will be back there this week due to same issue. Battery needed replaced due to all the electronics misfiring and automatically turning on- car has left my family, my children stranded multiple times due to electrical issues misfiring and depleting battery.

During rain and snow storms I will get warning lights that the power tailgate isn’t working. Last year when I took it into the dealer they said the tailgate would open and close randomly and there was water in the rear fuse box. I thought I fixed the issue by replacing all the wires from the rear all the way to the front. They fixed my tailgate and did water testing to make sure no water was coming in through the tailgate and all was great. Fast forward to this year and the middle of February we had an all day snow and rain storm and I start having these same warning lights along with a couple others. By the end of the day the tailgate completely stops working. I take it back to the shop that had originally fixed it and water is getting in. Not from the tailgate but through some unknown opening. The fuse board is completely corroded and we have to replace it again. They could not determine where the water is coming in from. I do not want to be driving down the road and have my tailgate randomly open and have items fall on the road causing injury to someone. Nor do I want to have to pay $1000 to fix the circuit board every time it rains or snows. I live in Utah it happens frequently.

Improper seal on exterior driver side roof near trunk lift gate. Allows water inside during heavy rain or when going through a car wash and the water damages the control module for the power tailgate. Damage to the control module cuts off any use of the tailgate, even manually. This is a $900+ repair due to a MANUFACTURER ERROR

My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a heavy snowfall in January 2025. The control panel displayed an alarm, Power Tailgate Problem , and the trunk door could not be opened. I asked a professional who pointed out that it is usually due to water intrusion into the control unit located on the rear driver's side body panel, which causes the tailgate to fail to open, close normally, or even open accidentally. They believe that this is a manufacturing defect caused by the manufacturer and there is a safety hazard.

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan had water leaks intruding and collecting into the power tailgate control module on the driver-side rear compartment causing the tailgate to become nonfunctional and not lock properly or open/close appropriately leading to a major safety issue where the tailgate may open or even not close during movement of the vehicle leading to significant risk to passengers with respect to accident or bodily injury. This power tailgate issue appears to be caused by defective rear body seam seals from the manufacturer that allows water to leak into the rear driver's side panels and intrude into the module leading to damage and destruction of the module circuit board. I have needed to purchase a replacement for the module (~$200) and I have provided photos to show the water damage.

My 2018 Honda odyssey EX-L had a power tailgate failure. It looks like the controls module has experienced water damage from a water leak. An independent service center has confirmed the issue. There was no warning before it happened and it is a safety issue as my tail gate cannot Be securely closed. This water leak looks to be manufacturer error.

My power tailgate stopped working after heavy rain. Based on online research this is a known issue due to faulty roof sealing and water infiltration, leading to tailgate module corrosion. Infortainment center shuts down and loses connection. Which means there is no communication with the backup camera or navigation. Popping noises from the front speakers start static and pop then the screen states connection lost then goes black. Turns back on in about 5-10 minutes depending. Also the lighting for the buttons around the center are not working as well. Idk if this is related or is an overload that the system cannot keep up.

It is causing multiple warning lights (5) on the dash and now adaptative cruise control, lane keep assist, brake system, and other systems are no longer working. Multiple Honda Odyessey owners are having this same issue. We need help getting this issue corrected/fixed by Honda as a recall.

Passenger side sliding door consistently failing to close. Each time problem occurred the showroom needed to reset the door. While traveling if this slide door open it is closing back. Either the engine or something else keeps failing and i completely lose power. I got the car towed back to my house. The car starts but a lot of the time it will keep shutting down while I'm on the road. I went to the dealership twice to get it checked out and they say that they do not know what the problem is and can not guarantee that they can fix the issue.

Lane keep assist, road mitigation, auto hi beam, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, road departure all errors and no longer work. New windshield wuth calibration august 2024, new battery 10/28/24. Issue started 10/25/24. A little over 90,000 miles on vehicle. Started vehicle in parking lot and all warnings came on. After new battery, warnings cine on and off at random.

Why has there not been a recall on Honda Odyssey's multi camera in windshield - it seems this is happening to many autos. These are ALL Safety issues that should be resolved by Honda. Dealership says it will cost me $2000 to have this repaired. Let me remind you that I had not even made a payment on this auto when the transmission went out while still under warranty. I had not had it a full month when this happened. We are grandparents raising our grandchild, we purchased this automobile for space for carseats and such, thinking it was a very safe automobile. Now many of the safety features no longer work! Not only are we on a fixed income but raising a child is not cheap! Auto High Beam Problem, Road departure Mitigation System Problem,, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Brake System. These are constantly flashing on my dash.

When pressing the accelerator from a stopped position, sometimes there is a need to let off the accelerator and then press it again. There are times when I do this sequence of events and the car doesn’t accelerate but almost seems to stall. Pressing the accelerator does not increase the speed. To remedy, I have been waiting a few seconds before repressing the accelerator to give the van time to shift or whatever it needs to do not to “stall”. This evening particularly, I was turning right on red so I accelerated and then I noticed that the cars on the street I was turning into had started to go so I let off the accelerator. Unfortunately I noticed that I was too far into the intersection and had no choice but to keep accelerating but my van stalled and wouldn’t accelerate when I pressed on the gas for a few seconds. It eventually “caught up” and accelerated but I ended up spinning my tires and “peeled out”.

UNKNOWN At random times I will push the gas pedal and the car does not engage at all to move. I will lift my foot up and down trying to engage the engine and it won’t. After a few times it will catch and the car takes off making the tires squeal, spin or jerk. It happens at random times, no warnings whatsoever that there’s a problem. It is very dangerous at intersections when turning left on green lights, when pulling out of parking lots. It’s to the point I am afraid to drive it at busy traffic times because it happens so often and I’m afraid of getting hit while my car will not move. We have told the dealership and they suggested we wait for the fuel pump recall to be readily available. I looked in forums and this seems to be a major problem for many other owners of the 2018 or newer. It started approximately two years ago and continues to happen, in fact happening more often.

My trunk was working anymore. I could not even open it manually. I had a shop that only works on Acura's and Honda's look at it. The control module for the trunk was wet and fried. I dont understand why it was wet in the first place since it was in seal box. This should be a recall on it. Please see attach pictures. I paid $669 to have them replaced it.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey doesn't have any current vehicle recalls but it's is experiencing the engine stall while driving, the power sliding floors not locking properly and the power trunk making a grinding noise when it opens and closes. I had the vehicle inspected at the local Honda dealership and they told me there was nothing they could do about the vehicle stalling, the power doors not closing and the trunk grinding. From releasing the brake and pressing the gas, the vehicle will stall and then spin the tires as if I'm racing or burning rubber.

2018 Honda Odyssey front camera failures. We bought it brand new and found out today that front multipurpose camera was not working properly. There are bunches of warning lights popped up on dashboard: LCC, LKAS… problems. I went to Google and Facebook to see there were so many people have the same problem particularly with this 2018 models. Dealership wanted $1800 to replace camera and they know that was Honda technical issues, not in customers control.

I don't yet know the exact cause of the problem, but while at highway speed (approx. 72 mph), my wife pressed the gas pedal to accelerate, and it didn't work. She continued to press the pedal, and after several seconds, the vehicle did accelerate. I see this issue on severe threads and will be contacting the dealer or my mechanic as we are very concerned about this safety issue, the vehicle not accelerating when the gas pedal is pressed.

Water intrusion is causing failure of my liftgate module. The maintenance shop has identified this as the issue. After doing some research, this appears to no be a one time situation as i have read of several other owners experiencing the same issue. Lift gate is not opening and potential of liftgate opening uncommand due to module failure.

On the week of May 3rd my car began to shift into different gears with no notice or reason while driving, when it would do this it would show a warning signal on the dash that stated"transmission issue!" And the gear letter would flash on the dash. I brought the car in to the dealership it was purchased from (Ira Honda Saco, ME) as the car was shifting into reverse and park while driving causing significant safety issues for myself and my children in the car. When I arrived I was told there was issue with loaners although the service employee was great in helping me find one eventually that day as I'm a solo parent with multiple children. However, when I brought the car I said there was a recall on the transmission for this exact issue. I was told my make model and year matched but not the VIN so it couldn't be the transmission recall/issue. Then I was told the issue was the fuel injectors but that they were not covered by any warranty so I'd need to pay out of pocket. Then I was told it was partially covered and I ended up paying out of pocket for the remainder and was told the car was all set no more issues, it's fixed, completely safe to drive. Now barely 4 weeks later on 6/1024 while driving on the highway the car slams into park with the same exact warning flashing on the dash. The car behind me nearly rear ended me and my seatbelt engaged as I was going 65mph and came to a complete halt, causing bruising to my chest and collar bone. I immediately brought it back to the dealership and they suddenly say it's the transmission (like I said last month) but that it's not under warranty and is $6300 to repair that Honda can't guarantee they can cover with a claim and they also don't have a loaner or any vehicle I can use to safely transport myself or my children. Yet the only reason I am at the dealership with a car that has now twice nearly caused severe injury events or death is due to the dealership's misdiagnosis of the issue and the guarantee the car was fixed

On April 13th, 2024 our son was driving the family 2018 Honda Odyssey (Approx 83,000 miles) in a nearby city. He was driving at 43 mph when the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral without his shifting it. He tried to brake using the brake pedal but was unable to stop or slow the vehicle. He also tried to accelerate and was unable to accelerate the vehicle. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and he was forced to use the emergency brake to stop the minivan. A good samaritan stopped and assuming that the battery was the problem, tried to help jump-start the vehicle -- but they were unable to start the car. Our son called us, and I drove 20 or so miles to his location. After trying a jump box in the vehicle, we called AAA. After trying a jump start and a new battery, At this point the technician said that the vehicle would need to be towed. The transmission of the minivan appeared to be locked and the towing company was not able to find a means to unlock the transmission. As a result, the front tires were placed on skids, which allowed the minivan to be drawn up onto the bed of the tow vehicle and towed the vehicle 20 miles to the local dealer, which had originally sold us the vehicle and had completed all recent maintenance. On Monday, the Honda service technician assessed it. We were advised that the 2018 Odyssey would require a new engine. After involving American Honda, we learned that the transmission was also affected, and the car would need to have $28,000 of repairs. After a month of discussions with American Honda, they closed our case without a teardown to identify root cause of the event. Our son could easily have been killed by being in a vehicle that could not be controlled while it was moving down the street. He used the only means available to him to stop the vehicle – the emergency parking brake. American Honda has told us that we must pay the $1600 to tear the engine apart to learn the cause. We have more history than can fit here.

Since 2020, we have noticed that the 2018 Honda Odyssey we own will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed. There is a noticeable delay between 1 to 3 seconds for the vehicle to accelerate. Once the vehicle accelerates, it does so at an increased rate of speed that is dangerous and scary. This has led to 100+ near miss collisions with pedestrians and other oncoming vehicles at 4-way lighted intersections, highway on-ramps and other driving scenarios. This has caused me and my family traumatic stress (injury) as we've had so many close calls due to Honda's manufacturing failures and failures to address this problem. We have to drive extra cautiously and under stress in anticipation of the acceleration delay. We took to the dealership several times and they said there appears to be no issue even though I'm certain they didn't do thorough test drive to inspect problem. We will seek legal remedies if NHTSA and Honda will not address this defect that is being reported by hundreds of other 2018-19 Honda Odyssey owners.

One day i turned on vehicle and all the warning lights turned on, the lkas system. Automatic emergency breaking, lane departure warning. Cruise control, brake system. More lights that i cant remember. I took it to the honda dealership and they found that it was an internal front multi purpose camera failure that caused all these features to not work which i was told is a safety issue because the seat belts may not engage or other safety features. I have heard of this front multi purpose camera failure multiple times for the odyssey. There were no warning before failure. I do have the failed component in my posession. It has now been replaced and the issue resolved

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: [XXX] for fuel pump but they tell me NOT my VIN number. I had to replace this item last January 2023 for $1500.00 I would like my money back. I have filed with Honda to escalate my issue. [XXX] AC has been working off and on for the past year. Runs warm. Right Power door will not open or close with buttons or key fob. Must open/close manually. The doors are too hard to open manually for smaller children and even some adults making it a safety concern in case of emergency. This started intermittently a year ago and is now a constant. Tailgate has been opening and closing on its own, even when locked while parked as well as when the idle stop is activated while in drive. This is a concern that someone can get in the vehicle when unattended. It also shuts (and didn't stop) when someone was standing in the opening while removing something when it occurred. This started about a month ago. I was told to take it to a dealer and pay them to diagnose it. The dealers have a wait list and it's also not in my budget. These are real concerns and I feel Honda isn't taking ownership of the dangers.

After rain, the next day, I get error tailgate problem on my dashboard. I can no longer open it using my remote or from the front panel of my van. I saw many complaints of similar issue out there. This should have been a recall due to manufacture failure.

Hello, my name is [XXX] . I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey that I bought brand new 6 years ago from Open Road Honda in Edison, New Jersey. We received a notification of the tailgate malfunctioning out of the blue yesterday evening. It was raining the whole day yesterday. Upon checking the internet, we found this to be an issue faced by multiple Honda Odyssey owners and a dedicated thread discussing this in the Honda Odyssey Forum. Link to it is here: [XXX] After doing a little bit more research, we found a potential problem to be a malfunction due to water going into power tailgate module and this could be caused by some welding defects from Honda. We decided to remove the fusebox cover in the back left of the car (driver side) and found that there was water inside. We have sent the car to our mechanic to resolve the issue. Please see pictures and video attached for your review. This also has the VIN number for our car. But, since this seems to be a manufacturing defect and it is going to cost a lot to fix, we would appreciate Honda taking action on this. We would like to take this to a dealership for issue resolution with Honda facilitating and paying for the repairs since it is a manufacturing defect. Please advise us on next steps. Van started having a loud clicking sound and radio would not work. took it in for repair, they said they fixed it. Took it in again because it actually got worse and the screen was rebooting and showing a error. Now have an appointment to take it back in again tomorrow because the fix worked for like 3 days and now it has gotten even worse. Screen keeps shutting down completely and wont boot back on for a few minutes.

2018 Honda Odyssey motorized tailgate has completely stopped working. Will not open. Numerous accounts say this is due to water getting into the rear tailgate control module and have had tremendous amount of rain this week. Have not had it looked at by dealer yet but must be fixed. Warning message appeared twice on dash 10 minutes before the failure.

My back windshield popped and shattered without anything hitting it. Driving on a smooth road at 45 mph and all of a sudden back windshield popped and shattered. Was driving with my wife and two kids. All went to a sudden sock. That was a very bad and scary experience along with the out-of-pocket expense to replace the windshield.

When the vehicle is at a full stop and you press the gas, there is a stall in the vehicle acceleration. I’m unsure if this is a transmission or engine issue however it has done this since the date of purchase. I have contacted a Honda dealer who stated “this is a known problem but there is no solution for it”. This is a very large safety concern as the delay can easily cause a crash.. I have to plan for plenty of space prior to turning just in as it stalls while attempting to drive

Every time when it rains, the power tail gate fails showing beeping noise from the rear and on the screen and unable to lock the doors. Had to replace the power tail module couple of times so far and still problem persists. The Honda dealership mentioned there was a leak, repaired and replaced the module , inspite of the fix priblem still persists when it rains.

Recently started to experience this issue. I have 41,000miles on this 2018 Honda Odyssey. It Jerks & delayed acceleration/hesitation upon acceleration while driving between 20‐35mph on local roads. It happens mostly with slowing down in traffic or upon stopping at stop sign & accelerating again. I am not experiencing this issue with freeway driving. I went to the dealership where I bought the car from. They asked me for $280 to just diagnose the problem, but I refuse to pay for just to diagnose. Currently, I am trying to research out my own. As the dealership has no clue about the issue. Please provide me with any related complaints & resolution for this problem.

When the vehicle’s auto start-stop feature is active, the feature will malfunction causing the engine to not start properly. Instead, the vehicle stalls and must be restarted manually. However, there are many occasions when the vehicle does not start manually either. In these cases, it takes many attempts to restart the vehicle. While these events are happening, the vehicle displays an error message for the auto start-stop feature on the instrument cluster, and the instrument cluster will flicker on and off. The events often occur during the middle of an intersection and attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. It creates a very dangerous situation. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others because the issue occurs regularly, and the dealership has asked us to come back when the problem is occurring. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, there are other Honda vehicles (e.g., Honda Pilot) which have the exact same issue, and a recall has been issued for those vehicles but not the Honda Odyssey.

Our van regularly hesitates when to accelerate from a stop. Example, when turning right on red pushing the gas pedal will provide some speed to get into the roadway, then it becomes unresponsive. Letting up and pushing the accelerator will cause the van to move again after about.5 to 1 seconds. Often the accelerator has to be pushed all the way to the floor, which causes the van to move aggressively once it does start to respond causing the tires to spin out. While the performance issue is annoying, this becomes a safety issue when stranded out in traffic.

Five years old vehicle jerked and almost came to a complete stop. Engine transmission services warning popped up as soon as the jerk happened the first time. Another warning came up as well. Jerking happens at least every mile. Car full of young kids jerked and almost came to a complete stop on the road and highway. Multiple moving vehicles were near when this occurred, which could have resulted in a terrible accident. Honda dealer said this is due to front camshaft and sensor. No engine warning regarding this problem showed up prior to this jerking. This first appeared on June 23, 2033.

I was driving the vehicle as normal and stopped at a Red Traffic Light. I attempted to drive when the light changed to green. The car stuttered, the dashboard lights flashed and the car shut down. - Multiple attempts to re-start failed. No prior warning lights etc. Car just return from Dealer to address Recall Issues etc. Dealer made comments on Brake Maintenance etc which was then serviced. No Mention of Auto Stop/Start issues. - FULL failure: No brake, no steering, no radio, dashboard went blank. No lights. - FAILURE OF HAZARD LIGHTS TO WORK. - This is a SHUT down in the middle of a busy street with 2 kids in the car. NO Hazard lights working. - Mulitple near accidents from incoming traffic. No lights working??? -Spoke to mechanic over the phone. He thought it was NOT likely the battery and I needed to get a tow truck. -Tow truck not available for several hours. - Mechanic was able to send someone to me. He worked on it and eventually got it to start. - Immediately took it to the Mechanic Shop. They Tested the Battery, alternator, starter and connections. Stated No Problem detected. - Mechanic thought it could be related to the computer/Auto Stop/Start system and suggested I get it checked at the Dealership. -Spoke to the Dealership the following day and base on the description of events they also mention the Auto Stop/Start system???? -This seems to be a problem they are aware of but????? The Dealership recognize this problem base on the conversation???? It is thus well known???? - Car left at Dealership - This is EXTEMELY DANGEROUS. The car Shuts Down/Freezes in the middle of Traffic. - NO HAZARD LIGHTS WORKING?????? - This is an Accident/Deaths waiting to happen. - Why is the computer even controlling the HAZARD lights. That is a HORRENDOUS Design Error. Hazard Lights should be HARD WIRED to switch.

Electrical issues with camera, screen & infotainment system. Terrible crackling noise coming from stereo system. Screen randomly goes black for prolonged periods of time. While in reverse and relying on camera….all of a sudden you do not have visibility. Screen will stay off as well as the music and randomly turn back on. Car has been in shop 5 plus times for this issue and several remedies tried…..nothing seems to work. Whatever remedies have been tried, problem is now worse and more frequent.

As I was driving down the interstate in my 2018 Honda Odyssey, clear of other vehicles or debris, I heard a loud bang and saw glass slide off the back of my car. I could instantly hear the air in the moonroof as if it was open. Fortunately, I had the cloth/hard cover closed so no glass got in my car or on me. For obvious reasons this is extremely dangerous and puts many people in the car and outside the car at risk. The shock of the exploding sunroof while driving on the interstate is not safe but if the cover wasn't closed, it would have covered me and my children in glass shards. One week ago, January 27, 2023, I had my a few recalls repaired on my van. One being, "Safety Recall Campaign: Replace Harness Clips and Moon Roof S/B 20-012".

The auto idle on my van has cause problems for over three years. I have reported this to our Honda dealership numerous times. The car dies when I am stopped and I try to take off. Everything in car shuts off - dashboard, A/C, radio, etc. When it does not all the way die when I try to go from a stop, all my collision mitigation warnings start flashing and a few times my car has braked itself. They have blamed it on my battery twice - once they replaced and the next time they made me pay for the battery. Then, they tried to blame it on the master computer switch because my door locks would just lock and unlock as I would drive down the road. They ordered the chip in February 2022 and finally replaced it in August 2022. The van has started locking and unlocking again, collision mitigation warnings go off for no reason, and auto idle is starting to kill the van again when I try to take off.

The rear view camera on this car is defective. Honda and the dealership appear to be playing games with customers stating that they will get this dealt with but no ETA has been forthcoming the whole of 2022.

I have an 2018 Odyssey Touring that apparently has a problem with the auto-idle stop while driving at slow speeds, many times (2 to 6 times a day) for a few weeks now. It starts with a weird noise (like a loud record scratch) through the speakers, then engine turns off, dash and radio shuts off too and immediately everything turns on again. Car don’t go to park, it stays on drive mode. Sometimes I was able to read different messages on the dashboard or radio about “Collition mitigation system” “anti theft system” and sometimes “loading” appears on the radio screen. This messages disappear quickly. Before this problems happened, the DVD rear screen stopped working (it’s completely black) while the DVD can be heard playing on the speakers. Don’t know if the two issues are related. I'm worried this can cause the car to stop at higher speeds and cause an accident, my wife usually drives this car with the kids with her. I took the car to a Honda dealership, they run diagnostic tests and it doesn't show anything. I left the car at the dealership, they will try to replicate the problem to understand what is happening.

The automatic tail gate hatch closes when its fully open. It will close while under it and bumps your head if you're not careful. I have bumped my head a few times. Nothing serious enough to see a doctor but it happens 95% of the time the gate is opened. I reported this to Honda dealer where I purchased the vehicle over two years ago before COVID but it doesn't seem to concern them.

The component that is giving me issues is the power liftgate. As I have been driving down the road, it has unlocked and opened even at a stoplight. And would go up and down up and down until finally it runs the battery completely dead. I have taken it to Honda. They did not know what’s causing it. I am taking it now to another service dealer. to see if he can fix it. I’m in hopes that he can do something. But upon reviewing other complaints online, this has been an issue for other people. That could cause a lot of safety issues for anyone around the vehicle or driving the vehicle.

My transmission on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has failed multiple times since I have owned the vehicle. I have brought this safety issue up to the dealer multiple times and nothing has been done to fix the complaint. My safety concerns have been ignored by Honda. The vehicle is shifting into park while it is moving creating a safety risk for my family and I. You can feel the entire car shift gears while driving and the vehicle shifts/accelerates forward on its own without pressing on the gas. I have almost hit the person in front of me when the car shift gears and accelerated on its own. The problem has been recently noticed by the dealership as well. The transmission warning lights did not come on prior to all of the failures. The transmission warning lights came on for the first time on 04/17/22, which was way after all the problems started occurring. Another safety concern that I have is my passenger side sliding back door will pop open while driving and often will not close. This has been witnessed by others in my child's car line. I have to pull over, stop the engine and restart the vehicle to get the door to close. This is a safety concern when I have a child sitting next to a door that opens while the vehicle is in motion.

Like many others, I am experiencing hard shifts between the 25-30 mph range. The downshifting is also very hard. While I don’t hear clunking like I do with a gear shift, it will jerk down to a gear that seems too low and almost feels like the brakes are being applied when they are not. The most terrifying issue is the lag time between gas being applied. My engine remains idle and then jolts forward. This has almost caused an accident with oncoming traffic when I am trying to turn left. I beg of you to research this for a possible recall. Since it isn’t a constant issue, Honda says it runs normal and nothing is wrong.

After leasing our car for less than 1 year - the power liftgate malfunctioned (which coincidentally there had been a recall in the past on our honda odyssey 2009 for appears to be the exact same issue.) It seems to be exactly the same thing happening again with the 2018 model we have now. So that the trunk won't open by itself. So for the past few years we had too manually lift the trunk and it's extremely heavy to lift and slow and can bang you in the head because it does not lift very high. If this wasn't bad enough a month ago the electrical power/fuse to even accomplish what I just explained electrically shorted for no reasonable explanation. So that my husband has to quite literally climb through the two rows of seats take the plastic off permanently on the manual/nonelectric trunk release from the inside of the car in order to get our trunk door to open at all. The outside of the car electrical button has no electricity running in it at all. This is terrible for a family of 5 children. There haven't been any recalls on this and I'm sure it'll be quite expensive to replace. Please look into this issue for us please. Thank you kindly. The door panel on the left sliding door became separated from the door itself thus preventing the door from opening. The malfunction prevent egress from that door. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for repair. The dealership hated that the issue was considered cosmetic. The dealership ordered a new door panel at my personal expense. There was no prior warning that the door would malfunction and egress would be prevented.

THEREFORE THE LOCAL DEALER (UNDERSTANDABLY) WILL NOT SCHEDULE A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. WITHIN 3 MINUTES FIRE WAS COMING UP THROUGH THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE ENTIRE HOOD OF MY CAR WAS UP IN FLAMES (4-5FT TALL) WITHIN 5 MINUTES FROM SMOKE TO FULL FIRE. FIREFIGHTERS THANKFULLY PUT OUT THE FIRE WITHIN 8 MINUTES FROM WHEN IT STARTED. THE HOOD HAD DISINTEGRATED AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND ALL THE PARTS IN THE HOOD WERE BURNT AND MELTED. MY WINDSHIELD SHATTERED FROM THE HEAT. THIS CAR WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, 37,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS BOUGHT AND SERVICE LOS REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE CAR WOULD JUST COMBUST OUT OF THE BLUE. CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA WITH NO AVAIL. AND REFUSAL OF ANY INVESTIGATION. THE ENTIRE INCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON OUR SECURITY CAMERA.

COULD NOT UNLOCK THE CAR USING THE KEY FOB OR BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF VAN. AT THE TIME, DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A PHYSICAL KEY IN THE FOB. MY KIDS WERE LOCKED IN THE CAR AND I HAD TO INSTRUCT MY FIVE-YEAR-OLD TO UNBUCKLE THEMSELVES FROM THEIR CARSEAT AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. EVENT OCCURRED LATE 2019. HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUE WHERE I HAVE STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR, WHILE IT IS NOT RUNNING AND MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR, THEY KEYS WERE IN THE CAR, AND WHEN I CLOSED THE DOOR, THE DOORS LOCKED. THANKFULLY THE BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF VAN WORKED TO UNLOCK DOORS, BUT IF IT HADN'T, I WOULD HAVE HAD NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE CAR TO GET TO MY KIDS ON A HOT SUMMER DAY. EVENT OCCURRED SUMMER 2019.

WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR, GOT OUT, THEN GOT BACK IN, THE SPEEDOMETER CAME BACK, BUT THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM CONTINUED TO BE OUT. THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE ABOUT DAY 30 OF OWNING THE CAR. IT WILL CUT OUT, SAY CHECK TUNER, THE SPEAKERS CRACKLE. ON AUGUST 28,2019 MY VAN HAD BEEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE ALL MORNING UNTIL I DECIDED TO GO PICK UP LUNCH. I WAS SHOCKED BC THERE WAS NO CARS BEHIND ME ON THE ROAD AND ONLY ONE SMALL SEDAN TRAVELING ABOUT TWO CAR LENGTHS IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD BEEN WATCHING CLOSELY TO THE BACK OF THE SEDAN BC IT HAPPENED TO BE A FRIENDS AND WE WERE TALKING ON THE PHONE TOGETHER. AND NO POINT DID ANYTHING FLING UP FROM THE ROAD AND THERE WERE NO TREES, BRIDGES, OR ANYTHING ABOVE THE ROAD. SHE COULD HERE THE NOISE FROM HER CAR AS WELL AND WE BOTH WERE LIKE OMG WHAT WAS THAT SOUND, AND THEN A SECOND TIME THE BOMB LIKE SOUND HAPPENED. ABOUT TWO MINS LATER I PULLED BACK INTO MY GARAGE AND BEGAN INSPECTING MY CAR AND THAT WHEN I REALIZED IT WAS MY SUN ROOF. MY SUN ROOF EXPLODED OUT OF NO WHERE. I LIVE IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND ON THIS DAY WE WERE UNDER YET ANOTHER HEAT ADVISORY. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AROUND 12:53PM IT WAS CLEAR SUNNY SKIES AND 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE WITH A HEAT INDEX OF 115. THE ACHING A/C WAS SET TO 71 INSIDE OF MY VEHICLE. THE INTERIOR COVER TO SUNROOF WAS CLOSED THANKFULLY BECAUSE OTHERWISE THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE WITH GLASS FLYING AND FALLING EVERYWHERE.

THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE AUTO IDLE STOP FUNCTION IS ENGAGED. SECONDLY THE VEHICLES COLLISION WARNING COMES ON WHEN THERE IS NOTHING AROUND AND SAYS THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR IS OPEN WHEN IT IS NOT.

I WAS NOTIFIED AT THE END OF 2018 ABOUT THIS RECALL HOWEVER MY DEALERSHIP (HUBLER HONDA) DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AT THAT TIME. THEY ENCOURAGED ME TO BRING MY VAN TO BACK TO HUBLER HONDA AT THE BEGINNING OF 2019 AS THE PARTS WOULD BE MORE READILY AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW JULY 25. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW AND THAT DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME, TODAY, THAT THE PARTS ARE BACKORDERED AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIX THE LATCHES. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT SAFE WITH THREE CHILDREN AND UNACCEPTABLE. CAN SOMEONE HELP? I KNOW I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE THIS IS HAPPENING TO. TOWARDS THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, THERE WERE MULTIPLE EPISODES IN THE CAR PICK UP LINE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW ON 07/10/2017. IT HAS BEEN TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES BECAUSE IT WON'T START. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED IN, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE SECOND TIME IT SAT IN MY GARAGE FOR TWO DAYS. WE WERE UNABLE TO START THE VAN. THE VAN HAS A KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM. THE VAN WOULD NOT UNLOCK, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULDN'T LIGHT UP AND IT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK FOR THE CAR. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED TO START THE VAN BY JUMPING THE BATTERY AND HE COULD NOT START IT. IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THAT SUNDAY. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME ON MONDAY MORNING AND TOLD ME THAT COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VAN. THEY SAID IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THEY SAID THEY TRIED TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT. I PICKED THE VAN UP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEN ON 07/19/2019 MY WIFE DROVE THE VAN TO A LOCAL VENUE WITH THE GRANDCHILDREN. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, SHE CAME OUT TO THE VAN AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SENT ANOTHER TOW TRUCK TO PICK IT UP. ONCE AGAIN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO JUMP START THE VAN, AND ONCE AGAIN IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE VAN WAS TOWED OVER TO HONDA WHERE ONCE AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VAN. IT STARTED FINE. THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED NEAR 3RD ROW DRIVER SIDE SEAT...MY 3 YEAR OLD WAS ON THE DRIVER SIDE 2ND ROW SEAT---JUST 1.5FT AWAY FROM IT. LUCKILY, MY WIFE AND CHILD WERE NOT HURT. I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING UP WITH GEICO INSURANCE, US HONDA (CASE# 09517538) RIGOROUSLY. I AM REALLY INCLINED TO KNOW WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE THAT VIRTUALLY THREATENED THE LIVES OF MY WIFE AND CHILD. I AM STILL AWAITING RESPONSE FROM THEM. IT BRIEFLY FLASHED ""COLLISION MITIGATION"-SOMETHING,, BUT IT WAS JUST ON THE SCREEN FOR A HALF-SECOND. I PULIED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PRESSED THE DRIVE BUTTON. IT HAPPENED AGAIN MAYBE 10 MINUTES LATER ON A BUSY ROAD TRAVELING AT 45MPH. I ARRIVED AT MY FIRST DESTINATION, RESEARCHED HOW TO TURN OFF THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, AND CONTINUED TO MY SECOND DESTINATION. IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY TO THAT DESTINATION, FLASHING THE SAME WARNING SO QUICKLY THAT I COULDN'T READ IT, SAME NOISE, VIBRATION. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I BOUGHT IT. THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. "BEST EDUCATED GUESSED" THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE PROBLEM, THOUGH I NEVER RECEIVED A LOW BATTERY WARNING FROM MY VEHICLE, AND THEY PERFORMED A BATTERY RESET PROCEDURE. THE DEALERSHIP EXPECTS ME TO DRIVE MY FAMILY HOME IN THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT CHANGING OR EVEN INSPECTING THE TRANSMISSION OR PARKING PAWL, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE LOAD POPCORN/GRAVEL NOISE. JUST PURCHASED THIS VAN, BRAND NEW, LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AGO. WHEN DRIVING MY CAR, AND IN THE MIDST OF A TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, MY CAR SHUT DOWN. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF, I COULDN'T MOVE THE WHEEL. IT JUST WENT DEAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE AND THE SERIES OF ISSUES I HAD EXPERIENCED IN THE DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT, WHICH INCLUDED NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK, A MESSAGE FLASHING THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND TO TURN OFF ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE (NO LIGHTS WERE ON), ANTI-THEFT MESSAGE CAME UP TWICE, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE FRONT SAFETY SENSORS SAID THEY WERE NOT OPERABLE (WHICH ARE CONTROLLED BY A BOX BY FRONT REAR VIEW MIRROR, AND SENSOR WAS NOT BLOCKED), CALLS HAVE BEEN DROPPED RANDOMLY, SIDE DOORS STICK, ETC. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN OTA SYSTEM UPDATE, AND THAT THE CAR SHUT DOWN AS A RESULT. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION DUE TO A NEED FOR A SYSTEM UPDATE, I WAS TOLD THAT IS WHAT THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO DO. I AGAIN REPEATED, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION JUST BECAUSE OF A SYSTEM UPDATE? I WAS TOLD YES, ALL COMPUTER ASSISTED CARS ARE DESIGNED THAT WAY. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING ELSE IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AND I HAVE SEEN ONLINE, THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. PEOPLES LIVES ARE AT PERILOUS DANGER AND RISK WHEN THESE CARS ARE SHUTTING DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE NOW BEFORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OCCUR AND SOMEONE DIES. HONDA NAVIGATION SYSTEM DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT A MAP UPDATE IS AVAILABLE. FOLLOWED THE HONDA INSTRUCTIONS TO PROCESS THE MAP UPDATE USING A USB DEVICE. WHILE UPDATING AT 78% COMPLETE, THE SYSTEM DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT THE UPDATE FAILED. THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, NOW, WILL NOT EVEN BOOT UP. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND AFTER ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, HONDA TECHNICAL TEAM STATED THAT A NEW NAVIENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED. THE SEPTEMBER MAP UPDATE SOMEHOW CORRUPTED THE NAVI PROGRAM.

2018 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS PURCHASED 3/16/2018 AT WEST HONDA DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN LAS VEGAS. ADDRESSED THE ISSUE TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, WITH THE MENTION OF HEALTH CONCERN AND FIRE RISK DURING DRIVING. BOTH DEALERSHIPS' SERVICE ADVISORS VERIFIED THE ISSUE VERBALLY, DID DIAGNOSIS IN 3 OUT OF 4 TOTAL VISITS. COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE WHILE ODOR PRESENTING IN THE CAR; THUS, NO REPAIR WAS DONE TO FIX THE ISSUE. REPORTS ARE COLLECTED, FILED A COMPLAINT TO THE HEADQUARTER. CASE MANAGER ADMITTED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AS SIMILAR CASES WITH THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE ARE HEARD FROM THE SAME AREA. SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT CLOSE. SOMETIMES THE DOOR WILL CLOSE ALMOST TO THE END AND THEN RECOIL OR THE DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE AT ALL (IT JUST BEEPS). DEALER INSPECTED AND REPLACED MOTORS ON BOTH DOORS PER HONDA'S RECOMMENDATION. PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY REAPPEARED MAKING IT SO THE DOOR CANNOT BE CLOSED UNLESS DISENGAGING THE POWER TO THE DOORS, EXITING THE VEHICLE, AND MANUALLY CLOSING THE DOORS. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY AND IS GETTING WORSE.

ON MARCH 24, MY 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY SHIFTED INTO PARK AT 65 MPH ON I-95 IN PHILADELPHIA. THE HONDA REP, OLIVER (A HONDA EMPLOYEE), EXPLAINED TO MY HUSBAND THAT WHEN THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR CONNECTED TO THE COLLUSION AVOIDANCE SENSOR DISCONNECTS, A COMPUTER ASSUMES THE CAR IS OFF AND THAT FORCES THE CAR INTO PARK REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED IT IS GOING. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE ENTERTAINMENT PANEL SCREEN WENT BLANK AND WHILE IT WAS REBOOTING, I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE CAR, NO GAS, NO BRAKE, STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. WHEN IT REBOOT, IT WAS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE LIKE METAL HITTING METAL. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHLY WITH MY THREE CHILDREN AGES 8 MONTHS, 2 YEARS AND 4 YEARS OLD IN THE CAR. THE HONDA REP BELIEVES THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE WAY THE POWER CABLE IS CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY. HE EXPLAIN THAT THIS CAUSED THE SENSORS TO DISCONNECT INTERMITTENTLY. THE REP, OLIVER, BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON THE DEALERSHIP DURING THEIR REPAIR OF THE CAR FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS IS INCORRECT. THE CAR FRONT SENSOR HAVE BEEN LOSING CONNECTION TO THE COMPUTER SINCE WE TOOK IT HOME BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP TOUCHED THE BATTERY. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR'S ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT I WOULD NOT BRING UP, BUT OLIVER'S DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR COMPUTER SYSTEM MAKES IT RELEVANT. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR HAS 6 COMPUTER CONNECTED WITH ETHERNET CABLES. MUCH OF THE WORK FOR THE BASIC FUNCTION OF THE CAR AND TRANSMISSION IS DONE BY THE COMPUTER THAT ALSO RUNS THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM, THE BIG SCREEN COMMON IN THE FRONT PANEL OF CARS. OLIVER EXPLAINED WHEN ONE COMPUTER GETS BOGGED DOWN, IT TAKES THE ENTIRE SYSTEM DOWN. OUR CAR AND A LOT OF OTHER 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY HAVE A KNOWN FLAW THAT HONDA HAS NOT FIXED IN WELL OVER A YEAR. ON MONDAY, JUNE 18, 2018 AT ABOUT 8:00 AM MY WIFE WAS SITTING STATIONARY AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE WINDOW IN THE REAR HATCH EXPLODED. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS/VEHICLES AROUND HER AND THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR. THE WINDOW EXPLODED FOR NO VISIBLE REASON. THE GLASS SHATTERED EVERYWHERE INTO THE REAR PART OF THE VAN AND REAR SEAT AREA. WE BROUGHT THE VAN TO INVER GROVE HONDA IN INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN (WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VAN NEW IN DECEMBER, 2017) AND THEY REFUSED TO CLASSIFY THIS AS A DEFECT AND DIRECTED US TO FILE A CLAIM WITH OUR INSURANCE COMPANY (WHICH WE DID). THEY DID PROVIDE US WITH A LOANER CAR FOR FREE AND HELPED US WORK WITH A GLASS REPLACEMENT SHOP. HOWEVER, I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT, THE GLASS HATCH WINDOW SHOULD NOT HAVE EXPLODED FOR NO REASON.

PUSH BUTTON SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IS PROBLEMATIC. IF THE DRIVE BUTTON IS NOT PRESSED FIRMLY ENOUGH THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN REVERSE, BUT THE DRIVER THINKS THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE. IF THERE IS A PERSON BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND THE OPERATOR PRESSES THE THROTTLE THEN A POSSIBLY DEADLY ACCIDENT CAN OCCUR. WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE THERE IS AN AUDIO NOTIFICATION (A CHIME SOUND) THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE. THE IS NO SIMILAR NOTIFICATION WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING FLAW.

THE PASSENGERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AUTOMATICALLY. THE OPEN/CLOSE BUTTON ON THE DASH WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR EITHER. THE KEY FOB WOULDN'T OPEN IT. WE SHUT OFF THE AUTOMATIC DOOR FEATURE AND THE DOOR STILL WOULD NOT OPEN MANUALLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR HOME, THE DOOR OPENED WITHOUT ISSUE.

IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS TO THINK THESE SYSTEMS CAN FAIL WITHOUT ANY WARNING MESSAGE OR NOTICE. CAR WAS AT A STOP AND AS IT STARTED MOVING FORWARD, A PEDESTRIAN CAME FROM THE RIGHT FRONT AND WAS NEARLY HIT. THERE WERE NO ADVANCE WARNINGS, AUDIO/VISUAL TO ALERT THE DRIVER. ALSO AFTER CHECKING WITH A FRIEND, WE COULD NOT TRIGGER THE ALERT WALKING FROM RIGHT TO LEFT (FROM SIDE TO FRONT) OF VEHICLE. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THANKFULLY, BUT PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THESE SYSTEMS FAIL AND NEED TO BE CHECKED TO NOTIFY OF ONCOMING PEDESTRIANS/BIKERS/VEHICLES. I BOUGHT THIS EXPENSIVE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAD 'SENSORS' AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FAR SAFER ACCORDING TO SALES GUY. NOT THE CASE. THE PUBLIC IS BEING MISLED.

OUR NEW 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY EX HAS FAILED TWICE TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE AND PUSHED ME OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY AFTER PRESSING THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES THE ENGINE RESPONDED. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ON A FREEWAY TRAVELING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUR COASTING BEHIND TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME. AGAIN, THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND THE FIRST TIME I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. AFTER ABOUT THE THIRD ATTEMPT, THE ENGINE RESPONDED. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER. THEY KEPT OVERNIGHT TO TEST IT WHEN IT WAS COLD AND RAN DIAGNOSTICS. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I HOPE THEY FIGURE THIS OUT BEFORE THIS CAR KILLS ME.

IT IS NOT CLEAR IF THIS MEANS THE RADIO ANTITHEFT OR THE VEHICLE ANTI-THEFT. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND IN A PARKING SPOT. IT HAPPENED ON START UP (AND REMAINED THERE DURING ALL 4 RESTARTS). NEW 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY ELITE (10-SPEED TRANSMISSION) DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND MANY ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED ABOUT STEERING SYSTEM, BRAKE SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM AND OTHER FAILURES. CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS DOWNSHIFTING. HIGH RPMS FOR SPEEDS WHERE IT SHOULD BE LOWER. SENT TO DEALER FOR 1 WEEK. DEALER REPLACED POWERTRAIN COMMAND MODULE AND O2 SENSOR. MESSAGES DISAPPEARED. 1 WEEK AFTER THAT, TRANSMISSION STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS DOWNSHIFTING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. PARKED VAN AND CENTER CONSOLE SCREEN WENT BLACK THEN HAD BROKEN LINES OF PIXELS IN ONE OR TWO PLACES.
