I am getting a failing fuel injector that is not covered in Hondas openTSB. I am unsure how it was determined that only VIN are covered when it is the same engine for all 18 &19s. Honda is denying work but reporting because many others are having same problem and not covered on an odyssey forum. I believe it is an issue with more than the VINs in the extension. Recommending that NYSB collect data on all odyssey and see the failures

Dec 8, 2025 Fire

On November 27, 2025, my 2019 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure while traveling at highway speed. The vehicle had been serviced at an authorized Honda dealership the previous day (oil change and tire rotation), and the failure occurred approximately 55 miles after that service. While driving on the interstate, the engine abruptly lost power, expelled a large quantity of engine oil onto the roadway, and then caught fire in the engine compartment. The driver managed to pull over safely and extinguish the fire. This was a significant safety hazard to the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists. The dealership later reported that the engine suffered internal mechanical failure involving broken connecting rods, which caused extensive engine damage and oil loss. I reviewed public information and discovered that certain Honda 3.5L V6 engines from similar model years have been recalled for internal engine defects that may lead to connecting-rod issues or catastrophic engine failure. However, my vehicle’s VIN is not currently included in those recalls, despite experiencing a similar failure pattern. This incident involved: Sudden loss of engine power at highway speed Immediate oil loss onto the roadway Engine compartment fire Risk of collision or injury Given the severity of the incident and the similarities to known recalls for related engine failures, I am submitting this report to request that NHTSA review this event as part of potential broader safety concerns involving this engine family. The underlying cause should be evaluated to determine whether a defect or pattern exists that could affect additional vehicles not currently included in recall campaigns. No injuries occurred, but the incident posed a serious risk to life and traffic safety.

Dec 5, 2025

The engine was the component that failed. While accelerating, I first noticed a slight knocking sound. At steady speeds the noise went away, but during the same drive it became progressively more frequent until it occurred under all driving conditions. When stopped at a light to make a left turn, the vehicle shut off immediately as soon as I released the brakes. There were no warning lights, diagnostic messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. Because the vehicle lost all power in the middle of a multi-lane intersection, my family and I were stranded in the roadway for approximately 1.5 hours until a tow truck arrived. The vehicle could not be moved out of traffic. After towing, a retired mechanic who operates his own shop inspected the vehicle. He performed a brief, approximately 15-minute preliminary evaluation and reported that the engine is seized. Based on his initial observation (without engine teardown), he believes the cause may be a failed crankshaft bearing, but this has not been confirmed. No dealer or manufacturer inspection has been performed. Insurance declined involvement because mechanical failure is not covered. No police report was filed.

2019 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ) - Fuel injector failure at 51,000 miles, November 2025. Cost: $1,260. KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT: Honda Service Bulletins 20-100, 21-002, 22-002 acknowledge widespread fuel injector failures in 2018-2019 Odysseys caused by debris from manufacturing process. Honda extended warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for certain VINs. My VIN excluded despite identical failure. EVIDENCE: (1) Same symptoms/codes as covered vehicles (2) Fuel pump replaced under recall same visit - proves manufacturing defects (3) Proper maintenance with receipts (4) Dealer admitted injectors shouldn't fail at this mileage (5) Hundreds of similar complaints online HONDA DENIED COVERAGE: American Honda denied goodwill because I don't have dealership service records. This makes no sense - manufacturing debris in injectors isn't caused by where you get oil changes. SAFETY ISSUE: Sudden power loss, multiple warning lights, stalling risk while driving. REQUEST: Investigate why Honda excludes certain VINs from warranty coverage for acknowledged manufacturing defect. Require expansion of coverage and reimbursement program. Pattern of defects (fuel pump recall + injector failure at 51k miles) indicates quality control problems. Thousands of owners affected. We bought this van new and twice since owning it-once in 2019 at 5,418 miles and this month (November 2025) at 136,947 miles-we have been driving down the interstate with a van full of people, when without any previous warning, suddenly multiple warning lights come on all at once (the check engine light, the transmission light, the vehicle stability assist light, among others-what I have been told in LIMP mode) and the van becomes difficult to drive. The engine revs and the multiple warnings keep flashing. It has been extremely dangerous to be going at interstate speeds and suddenly thrown into a driving status where our speed is crippled to a slow pace and trying to get to an exit or shoulder without causing an accident. We have had to have the van towed both times in order to get it to a dealer to have it looked at and fixed. Both times we have been told by 2 different Honda dealership service departments that it was the rocker arm oil pressure switch and the most recent time (2025) we were told they had to also replace the rear spool valve to make the error codes go away. The code P2652 was a code that had to be cleared both times with the repairs that they made. In Nov. 2025 the dealer scanned the vehicle and found codes p0301, p0302, p0303, p0306 cylinder 1 2 3 and 6 misfires. They found code p2652 rocker arm pressure switch to be stuck on. They checked the circuit and found the wiring to be ok. They replaced the rocker arm pressure switch and rear of cylinder head problem did not change. Oil levels were where they should have been. They removed the rear rocker bridge and rear spool valve to inspect the rear spool valve and found the rear spool valve to be sticking causing the vehicle to be in constant vps. They installed a new rear spool valve and cleared codes. We do not have the components to be inspected.

Nov 21, 2025

While driving on the interstate the engine rod blew causing the motor to blow up and sustain a hole. This was confirmed by a Honda dealership during a video inspection. Several lights on the dashboard showed up shortly before the motor expired.

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious engine failure on my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which experienced a rod bearing failure that has rendered the vehicle inoperable. This failure occurred despite the vehicle being properly maintained and driven under normal conditions. As a result of this engine failure, my Odyssey is currently parked and unusable, yet I am still required to make ongoing auto loan payments while I attempt to find a solution to cover the cost of repairs. This issue was first detected at 63,000 miles.

Nov 17, 2025

The power sliding door on the driver’s side failed and will not open, even manually. The mechanism engages and stops after about an inch. This creates a significant safety risk because passengers cannot exit through the door in an emergency. This appears to be a widespread defect in 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey models. Repair cost is approximately $1,000. Honda needs to address this as a safety issue.

Nov 16, 2025

This vehicle is horrible and should be bought back by Honda. They knowingly put this bad engine in the 2018-2019 year models for the Odyssey. The transmission grinds. The read door opens. The engine shuts off while driving at high rates of speed. You then have to pull to the side of the road and turn the ignition off, open the door, and restart the vehicle. I have complained to Honda for a buy back and they flat out said NO! Please help.

Traveling from appointment to home, vehicle started to rattle from engine, could not accelerate and shut off in the middle of the roadway. We couldn’t start the engine and “emission system failure “ message appeared for the first time. Prior to the event, we did not have any issues with starting, operating the vehicle and no warning lights on the dash. Police arrived to block traffic and ordered the tow to the dealership. Honda did a diagnostic for 240.00. Results were they found metal shavings in the oil and the engine needed to be replaced. We were surprised due to the fact that we just had a full synthetic oil change within the past month and no reports of metal in the oil were reported. Honda stated that recall 23V-751 addressed this issue but our VIN was not listed for coverage. Only choice is to replace the engine assembly, quoted $9,000.00. We are just thankful this issue didn’t result in any accidents or injuries when it reduced power and unexpectedly stalled on a city road. We are 1st owners and have had all services done professionally, per the maintenance schedule. It’s a 2019 Honda Odyssey Touring with 70000 miles. No prior notice or poor performance. Honda confirmed it was an internal bearing failure. Vehicle is available for inspection, currently waiting on engine replacement to arrive. Honda did complete the recall for fuel pump replacement that was needed.

Connecting rod bearings rattling at 72000 miles on my 209 Honda Odyssey. Loss of power.

Oct 29, 2025

I was traveling approximately 65 MPH on Interstate 75 Southbound near Cincinnati, Ohio with the flow of traffic. Cruise control was not being used at this time. I felt a sudden loss of acceleration and heard a shrieking sound. I also observed the check engine light illuminate. I immediately signaled and moved toward the right shoulder from the middle left lane. Upon entering the far right lane, the same loss of power and shriek sound happened. I took the exit ramp to Sharon Road and upon releasing the accelerator, the vehicle's engine stalled. I coasted to a stop in the far left turn lane. I personally inspected the vehicle and upon using a scope into the spark plug holes, found that the center rear cylinder shows signs that the piston collided with at least one valve, and the piston does not move with the crankshaft. However, the rear valves do move. The front center piston and valves both move. This suggests a connecting rod issue.

Oct 15, 2025 Crash

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while her son was driving at 70 MPH, he crashed into a deer. The air bags did not deploy. After investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V064000 (Air Bags). A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The driver struck his head on the steering wheel and sustained head injuries, and medical attention was provided on the military base. While driving, the vehicle stalled at the entrance of the military base. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair facility. The vehicle was being recalibrated. The air bag light was illuminated. The mechanic determined there was an issue with the seat belt pretensioner. The mechanic determined that the air bag sensor was not hit during the crash. The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed there were no recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. The VIN was not available.

My engine lights started flashing. I was stranded with my children. Had to coast into a nearby gas station. I’m told it’s a failed monocular camera causing all of it. When I google that it looks like it has happened to SO MANY people! A recall needs to happen.

Sep 13, 2025

While traveling in my 2019 Honda Odyssey (40,000 mile) the vehicle completely shut off and placed itself into neutral. The warning lights for emissions system problem, brake problem, and parking assist problem lit up on the dashboard. The vehicle went into neutral and would not allow me to drive at all. Then the vehicle shut off all within 30 seconds. The vehicle would then not restart and now i have to get the vehicle towed to the Honda Service Department. After looking through other complaints there is a known recall for manufacturer defected fuel injectors for my year model odyssey but does not appear when i search for recalls. This was an insanely dangerous situation here in Oahu where the traffic is very bad. The vehicle gave no warning or check engine light and we have completed every service for the vehicle. The vehicle just randomly completely shut off and would not restart leaving my family of 5 stranded.

The contact owned a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 45 MPH, and failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and was self-corrected after each failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions, but no fault codes were retrieved, and the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Action Number: PE25008 (ENGINE). The failure mileage was 33,000.

While accelerating from a complete stop at a red light, immediately after refueling, the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion power and forced itself into Neutral without any driver input. The dashboard lit up with numerous system warnings at once, including: •Emissions System Problem •Brake System Problem •ABS Problem •Brake Hold System Problem •Electric Parking Brake Problem •Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem The engine won't start, leaving me stranded in the middle of an active intersection. I attempted to restart the vehicle multiple times with no success. Police responded to the scene, confirmed the vehicle could not be driven, and a tow truck transported it to a nearby Honda dealership. The tow truck driver suspected an alternator failure, but the dealer’s inspection the next day could not reproduce the issue. They reported that the alternator and battery “tested fine” and that no trouble codes were stored in the ECU. No repairs were performed, and no cause was identified. Safety Concern: This incident created an immediate traffic hazard. The vehicle’s sudden loss of propulsion in traffic, combined with the inability to restart, could easily have caused a collision. Multiple critical systems were reported as failed simultaneously, indicating a possible electrical, fuel system, or control module failure. I am aware of similar complaints from other 2018–2019 Honda Odyssey owners in which sudden power loss occurred, often accompanied by numerous system fault messages. Many reports link these events to fuel pump failures, loose battery/ground connections, or transmission control malfunctions. This suggests a broader pattern of intermittent safety-related defects. Requested Action: Please investigate this incident and similar cases for potential design or component defects.

Was Driving on my way to work and I heard a sharp sound while going up a hill. I then got warnings that said transmission issue, pull over immediately when safe and the car shifted itself into neutral. I was in the middle of traffic and lost all acceleration controls, while being forced out of the drive gear. I lost all speed and had to move through traffic and get to a side street. The same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. It was covered by a warranty but I still was experiencing losses of car power or stalling.

Jul 3, 2025

Car shut down for idle stop when I let foot off break the car did not start back up. Car died and I needed to restart car.

Jul 2, 2025

Upon coming to a complete stop on the freeway, the idle engine feature stopped the engine. Upon letting go of the gas, the engine wouldn't restart and the electrical systems in the car malfunctioned showing a restart of the car would be needed. After trying to restart the car, the engine wouldn't turn over. After pushing the off button and starting the car again, it finally restarted. This created a hazardous situation as there was the potential for the car behind us to rear end us since we were at a complete stop on the freeway. After the software update, this happened again at a right turn on a local street.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the contact heard a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rod bearings had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Nothing has happened yet, but I have been unable to get the connecting rod bearings inspected per the Honda safety recall notice. I contacted the Honda dealer in January of 2025 to have the bearings inspected, as well as to have the fuel pump replaced (also under recall). I wanted them both done at the same time. I set up an appointment for May 21st of 2025, because that date was the first mutually available date for the dealer and me. Later in the day, on May 21st, I got a call from the service department that my fuel pump was done, but they did not do the bearing inspection. I went to pick up the vehicle at the dealership only to find that the check engine light was on, so I had to leave the vehicle overnight so that the check engine light problem could be corrected. It was then that I was told that they could not do the connecting rod bearing inspection because the procedure requires a "special tool" and Honda had to send it to them. I find this strange because of the number of months that went by, from when I first contacted the dealership until the appointment date, and I thought that they would have been better prepared to complete the work. I was also informed by Honda that all of the parts necessary to do the bearing inspection were available. I received that notification on September 4th of 2024. I also find it strange that, out of nearly 250,000 affected vehicles, I am the first to request this service at this dealership. I was not told how long it would be until the dealership service department would receive the tool. In the recall notice from Honda, a connecting rod failure could potentially result in "...a fire, crash, or injury". That's the risk. I was told by Honda to continue driving the vehicle if I was not having any symptoms of failure. I have had no indications, but I would like to have this recall taken care of as soon as possible.

May 9, 2025

I am filing this complaint to report a recurring and costly defect involving the starter system in my Honda Odyssey. The vehicle has been experiencing starter failures every few months, requiring repeated repairs and part replacements. Each time the starter fails, I am left stranded without warning, creating a serious safety hazard, especially when the failure occurs in public areas, on road shoulders, or during emergencies. The defect has caused extreme inconvenience, financial strain, and raised serious concerns about the reliability and safety of this vehicle. Given the frequency and cost of the problem, I believe this constitutes a systemic defect that should be investigated for a potential recall or manufacturer responsibility. I urge the NHTSA to thoroughly investigate this matter to determine whether this ongoing issue with the starter poses a broader public safety concern and qualifies for regulatory or enforcement action.

My 2019 Honda Odyssey has only 63,545 miles on it. The vehicle recently began making strange "rattling" sounds from inside the engine block when driving. I took the car into the dealership (Honda of Oakland) and learned from the technician that the rod bearings and/or connector rods are damaged. The engine needs to be completely torn down. To repair the car, I will need to purchase a new engine. The cost estimate is $13,000. Looking online, I discovered there is an ongoing recall for this issue affecting many 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys. Somehow, my vehicle has been excluded from this recall despite exhibiting the exact same problem(s) that the other recalled vehicles are experiencing. It appears that the existing recall parameters for the cars being affected by this bearing rod issue are too narrow. Many more Honda Odysseys are experiencing this same problem. I called American Honda for further assistance and they declined saying that the vehicle is outside of the warranty period and they are not obligated to help. I purchased this vehicle from the Honda of Oakland dealership - during my ownership, the car has passed many multi-point inspections. Nothing I have done (or did not do) has contributed to the problem - it is purely a manufacturing defect. The technician tells me that, if I don't make this repair, the engine could "seize-up" on the road while driving. This condition poses an active safety hazard for Odyssey owners.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed an unknown message displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing belt tensioner had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,400.

I have had a recurring problem for years that the dealership has been unable to resolve. Occasionally while we are at a stop, and the engine auto off system kicks in, and then I tried to go again, the car stalls completely. Battery tests fine. It does not restart until sometimes after I open and close my driver side door a couple of times which I assume reboots the electrical system in some manner. The car then starts up again and is okay. This is extremely dangerous as it happens in the middle of driving down the road, and the dealership has been unable to identify a solution or what the real problem is.

Feb 17, 2025

The automatic engine start stop when at a stop while driving creates dangerous conditions. The engine stalls during the re-start and it seems to pull the voltage all the way down to where every controller is dead and restarting. Cycling ignition switch while cluster is black or restarting or throwing up bunches of fault messages as traffic is now moving and you are still stopped. Sometimes this re-boot process can take around 30 seconds (guessing, I'm freaking out during those moments so time is tough but it feels like a LONG time). I have not had an accident yet but definitely some very scary moments with wife and kids in the vehicle. This auto stop feature can be disabled but requires you hit the button with each ignition cycle and I don't always remember to do that. The Honda Odyssey currently has 80,000 miles on it, we bought it new in 2019 and this has been happening since it was new. We have had this reviewed at two different dealerships; there seems to be a dismissive attitude by the service departments. They have replaced batteries and there was a software update in early 2024 but this issue is definitely still present.

Feb 10, 2025

2019 Honda Odyssey - since about 100,000 miles, a knocking sound has begun to present itself, and has gotten progressively worse. The vehicle is now at 129,000 miles and the sound has been diagnosed by 2 different repair shops as "rod knock" due to premature bearing wear. This is exactly what 250,000 vehicles were recalled for back in January 2024, however, this vehicle's vin was not included in said recall. The repair shops have quoted the vehicle owner $9000 for full engine replacement with a used Honda engine that could potentially have the same manufacturer defect that the engine being replaced has.

Vehicule does not respond when push the gas pedal. There is a delay on the vehicule respond after push the gas. Creating false idea of not pushing the gas enough. Suddenly the vehicule react loosing control.

Dec 31, 2024

This echos many of the existing complaints with the transmission already filed. When pulling away from a stop, the car will lag, then suddenly engage the wheels causing the car to jump forward. Some times there is a slight wheel spin etc. I have already taken it to the dealership, they said there was nothing wrong with transmission replaced the transmission fluid and reset the transmission controller. No change in behavior. I've been living with it, but recently drove another honda minivan and realized just how "not normal" the behavior is, and quite frankly how dangerous this has been all along.

Dec 27, 2024

Since purchasing the vehicle, I've had several incidents where my safety and those inside my vehicle are compromised due to the loss of drive power and stalling of the vehicle while driving. I've complained to the dealer for which they continued to assure me that there was no problem detected during the safety inspections. Recently I received the recall notice to replace the fuel pump module which was causing the issues that I've experienced with my vehicle. I took my vehicle to the dealer on 11/11/24, where it was serviced to correct the recall issues. However, I continue to have the same problems of stalling and loss of drive power when driving the vehicle. There are no warning lamps or other issues detected by the dealer according to their safety inspection. My safety and the safety of my passengers, continues to be put at risk. While driving in the highway it is especially dangerous because when I'm changing lanes the vehicle will not accelerate putting me at a risk for a collision. When I am turning left into a street, I feel that it looses power and am stalled in the middle on the street risking yet again a collision. These incidents occur at least 90 percent of the time when driving.

Mileage: 76,000

Dec 23, 2024

The vehicle has been occasionally stalling starting early 2024, maybe sooner. I had the fuel pump recall done recently. The vehicle is still stalling, and it seems to be getting worse. The stalling happens when driving at speed, even over 70+ mph. No warning lights. But rpms drop to almost zero for a few seconds and accelerator is unresponsive. Then it comes back after a few seconds. This is dangerous. Especially on busy highways.

Nov 21, 2024

I'm filing a complaint regarding unrepaired recall 23V-858 on my Honda Odyssey 2019 [XXX] . I' have been informed about it in December 2023 and kept trying scheduling a recall fix with Honda dealer for almost 6 months with no success. They are not able to do it because they don't have the required parts or something. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Nov 11, 2024

Received the letter for the recall. Noticed that the vehicle does occasionally hesitate during acceleration (sometimes at lights at intersections which is super dangerous) I have have multiple people who don't know about the recall asked me what's wrong with my car, why is it hesitating. Called 2 separate Honda dealerships total of 4 times to see if I can get the resolved. They all said they know about the recall but do not have parts. (this happened throughout the duration of 1+ year after the initial recall started) Called Honda USA, they say they can not do anything, but if I pay for the inspection (without telling the dealership about the recall) and they found something wrong, they would then do the repairs) Even though the recall says if we experience issues (hesitation is listed) I paid for the inspection, and of course they did not find anything wrong. So now I am out inspection fee, a car that I don't feel safe to drive my family in, and total distrust of entire Honda brand.

Oct 26, 2024

My family and I had just gotten on the parkway and the car wouldn't downshift. I noticed the "Drive" light kept blinking and then the dashboard lit up with so many different warning messages. "Emmissions system problem" was the message that stayed on. All of a sudden the car started shifting on its own into neutral, while we were on the parkway. Thank goodness there was an exit approaching and we were able to get off before we were injured in an accident. I have been having battery issues ever since I got this car. Even when it was brand new, sometimes it just wouldn't start. If I wait a little bit, eventually it starts, but I have already had to replace a battery at 30,000 miles because of this. It has been happening again, but when I bring it to Honda and my mechanic, the battery is normal. After doing research, it appears there was a recall on the 2019 Honda Odyssey with an issue relating to the battery connection that causes that transmission to reboot while driving and shift on its own. Honda claims my car was not part of this recall, but this is exactly what happened to me, and I have a 2019 Odyssey. They have had my car for three weeks now and can't find answers to fix the problem. When I first brought the car in, they said the technician was finding "A LOT of stuff." Fast forward two weeks, and they called to say it's not happening anymore so they are ruling it an "intermittent issue" and to come get the car (not fixed). I told them I do not feel safe with my children in that car. I need answers. I contacted Honda Corporate who said that Honda told them the transmission fluid was the reason, and to start with that and see if it happens again. I asked them about that recall and they said "well your car doesn't come up with it." Is it just a coincidence that the same thing has been happening to my car? I asked if they were able to find out why the car doesn't start "intermittently" and they said, "no, it hasn't happened while here."

Car hesitates upon acceleration passing through approximately 2000 rpm. Does not duplicate every time. Dealer will not replace high pressure fuel pump.

Sep 4, 2024 Crash

My 2019 Honda Odyssey was involved in a total loss car accident recently on Aug 20 2024. The cause was delayed acceleration due to a fuel pump recall by Honda Motor Corp from Dec 2023; and to date they have failed and neglected to provide the part to repair. For over a year I have experienced delayed acceleration issues with this auto. I purchased this auto new from the local dealer in 2019 and have constantly experienced, reported and paid thousands to repair and address transmission and delayed acceleration issues. Now this resulted in my inability to accelerate from a stop position resulting in another vehicle directly crashing into mine. Researching similar issues reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it appears I'm not alone. In our case - we were in fact "T-boned".

Aug 21, 2024

Trying to drive across a road and the van started and stopped and just went again and I almost got tboned.

Aug 1, 2024

My 2019 Honda Odyssey has had issues with engine hesitation since purchase, but have worsened in the last year to the point that I am concerned I will be in an accident. When creeping forward at a lower speed (5-8mph) to make a turn, the engine hesitates for several seconds, delaying my ability to turn and causing me to then turn seconds before another car is approaching me. I am in a Honda facebook group and many people report similar issues without any fix. I have taken my car to the dealership and they do not see any issues. I recently had my fuel pump recall done (I basically had to beg the dealership to do it despite them telling me Honda is short on supplies), and the issue is still present. The issue is worse in colder weather. I drive with 3 kids in the backseat. This issue needs to be addressed.

Jul 30, 2024

Step on accelerator and no acceleration, hesitation and have to push farther down on accelerator. Sometimes that works other time I have to let of accelerator and push again to go. Nearly cause accident multiple times.

We were out side. My engine wouldn’t start and fuel pump and battery lights lit up on desk board. I asked for help and was able to jumpstart the car- I started driving with my kids in car seats and on freeway 7-8 minutes after starting car it went to Neutral while driving its own. And speed went down its own to 20 MPh from 60 on freeway. Was able to mange to mange to take nearest exit and go to nearest open parking lot. Where was not able to shut down the car or put it in the park. I called my insurance to tow my car. And also called family member. Who came and after locking and unlocking they were able to turn off the car. And also start the car. So stared car again this time it shows only “ engine light on and emission issues “ no battery sign. and and in 3 mins in the driving again went to Neutral again. Again we had to find emergency parking lot. Turned off the car and turned on again. And then drove to home with 20 MPH. As soon as speed goes up it goes to neutral. I tried to drive to Bell Honda dealer to drop off my car and again went to neutral so had to towed my car to them. I have asked them to help me with recall issues but they said they don’t have any parts yet from Honda itself and will be available in August or September . I am really concerned with my experience that I had with my kids in car seats on freeway. And seems like I’m not getting any help to get it repair. Also thinking that this might be battery issue but I have replaced my battery in 2020 and again in September 2022 and Honda dealer said we have to change the battery again. I am really concerned that with barely 40k miles on my car - new model 2019 and in 5 yrs this is the 3rd time battery replacement required. And the fuel recall they are not able to fix given Honda is not able to provide the part. Please help

Around November 2023 I took my 2019 Honda Odyssey to Glockner Honda in Portsmouth, Ohio about an issue with the engine. I was told by Andy Schmidt and his Honda-certified technicians that the problem is the same as the one that is coming out for a recall in January 2024. I parked my Odyssey until January and took it back to Glockner Honda expecting it to be a part of the recall. I have waited for 6 months for it to be included or for Honda to agree to repair the vehicle. I have been told on multiple occasions by certified technicians and management at Glockner Honda that this is a manufacturing defect and they do not understand why it is not part of the recall. The recall is the same year, made, model, and problem as I am experiencing. I finally got verbal confirmation (Honda refuses to put it in writing) that they will not cover the full cost of the repair. I provided an estimate of the repair to the manufacturing defect to them from Glockner Honda. I demand that they pay for this defect. Also, they refuse to provide any information or explanation as to why my particular 2019 Honda Odyssey is not part of the recall. Please make them pay for this defect in the manufacturing process.

Issue Fuel Pump Recall Report: My vehicle was identified as an affected vehicle of this recall. The designated honda service shop failed to share the recall details when the specified engine stall was reported to the dealership at check in. When the vehicle engine stopped prior to the incident automatic sliding doors also stopped working and one week prior to this the audio and electrical outage on the media console also went out. All of the cracking and sound issues including inability to connect a phone properly via Bluetooth (no handsfree capability) , the screen going black and or just blue without any display. Cruise control has never worked properly and fails to adjust speed or stop accelerating so basically has never been operable. Dealership and Honda recall campaign has failed its clients tremendously on this one. I have zero trust in them or their interest to do the right thing. The safety concern remains: no reliability on speed acceleration on cruise control capabilities, no reliability on reverse cam or view quality, automatic door malfunction not sensing obstruction within a safe time to avoid impact, failure to avoid on coming traffic if the vehicle stalls in the way of high speed traffic or in route on freeway. Safety issue: the failed communication of the recall never ever shared by the dealership while vehicle was brought in for oil changes with diligence. Failure by the dealership to note the explained concerns as part of the nationally acclaimed recall (not in compliance). The dealership not seeing the direct safety obstruction of my (the drivers safety) and passenger safety (minor children) is subject to harm "DAILY" on account of the manufactured malfunctional processes.

My 2019 odyssey has occasionally stalled while at lights. We had received the safety recall in the mail months ago. Though it states they currently have NO FIX for this dangerous issue and that you have an increased risk of crash or injury. And that it wont be able to pass emissions. TODAY my vehicle stalled out while in motion. While transporting my four small children. By the grace of God it didnt result in an accident. I contacted my local honda dealer who told me to contact America Honda since they have no fix per honda for the recall at this time. I did so and they told me they cant do anything about it and to contact my dealer. They do not provide loaners for any reason no matter the safety concern. The check engine light it also on due to the issue and wont be able to pass emissions later on, and america honda says oh well, contact your local dealer. They should have an answer. They have stated to me that america honda hasn’t relayed information to them and dont know what to do at this point. My family’s safety is in danger because Honda cant find a fix. What do I do?

Apr 22, 2024

My check engine light came on along with an "Emissions System Problem" error around 68,000 miles. Upon checking out the car, my local Honda dealer found error code P219-B which indicates that the fuel injectors need to be replaced. The dealership stated that this is a known issue with multiple Honda TSB service bulletins regarding regarding problem. Honda has extended the warranty for fuel injectors to 150,000 miles, but only for a certain VIN range, from which my vehicle is excluded.

Engine made a clicking sound, I complained about it for nearly 10 months to dealership and other mechanics until I forced a mechanic to drive around with me. They first found metal shavings in my oil pan, found that rod bearings 2/6 are fully scorched and it now needs a new engine. Engine stopped twice on the road similar to eco mode, but wouldn’t turn back on the same way. Nearly causing collisions. No warnings whatsoever, vehicle had regular maintenance per its light warnings. Complete failure on Hondas part to correct this.

When I came to a stop at a red light, my auto engine idle engaged. When I tried to go by pressing on the gas, the engine would not turn on. The lights flickered and I had to wait a couple minutes to restart the car. This is not the first time it happened but it happened most recently on March 8, 2024. I have called Honda in two locations multiple times and they say they have no parts. When I told them I am experiencing problems they said they can try to expedite the parts but they don’t know when they will receive them. I am supposed to go in on Monday but they could not guarantee the problem would be fixed since they don’t have the parts. My safety was put at risk because I was driving and blocked traffic at a light which turned green. I had the car inspected in December for a different recall but they could not fix this open recall because they didn’t have parts. They knew I was experiencing problems with the engine not starting in December.

Feb 22, 2024

Engine is making rattling sounds and heavy fuel smell for the past 6 months. I gave a video of the loud knocking my car is making. It also has a 10-45 second delay when pushing the gas pedal and actually accelerating.

Jan 26, 2024

Basically, when starting from a stop - either dead stop or coasting stop, but after applying the brake, when you start gently pressing the accelerator, nothing happens for an inordinate amount of time. Likely only a second, but feels much longer when you're trying to make a left or right hand turn in front of oncoming traffic. The van may be barely rolling, because the brake isn't engaged, but you're only coasting with no response from the gas pedal. Then, after the short delay the engine feels like it is trying to catch up to where it should be based on the amount you've already depressed the pedal, and the van starts so fast the tires are peeling out.

Jan 6, 2024

When I start the engine, I switch the gear from parking to drive mode and give it a gas, but the gas doesn't reach the engine the way it should, then after it starts running super fast even if I barely give it a gas, the timing belt is now making a cranking noise. Dealers told me it was an engine problem inside the engine. The dealer mechanic are even very surprised why this happened and after again I took it to other mechanics, and they told me the same thing and also they told me about the recall and after I've seen a recall on Honda Odysseys with different VINs, but my car has the same problem (NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-751). This issue is a manufacturer's issue and my car has 118,000 miles on it. I just bought it six months ago for $37,000 and it's out of warranty. I need help. All the mechanics suggested it has a manufacturing problem including the dealer mechanics, also they advise me to this page to report and get some help.

Dec 28, 2023

The vehicle listed above with Vin [XXX] often does not takeoff properly. When pressing the gas, it lunges forward as though it did not receive any gas to the engine or the engine stalls, or does not operate correctly. This issue has been addressed with several mechanics, and no pertinent ruling has ever been established as to why the vehicle does this. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Dec 27, 2023

Delay or rough shifting betwee 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Sudden deccelerations Sudden loss of power twice happened on the free while accelerating.

Dec 15, 2023

On multiple occasions when traveling at a low rate of speed when the accelerator is pushed there is no response for up to 2-3 seconds then the car suddenly accelerates forcefully because the gas pedal has been pushed to the floor with no response. It has mostly happened when we are making a left hand turn and have slowed. Due to the seconds of delay we have been almost t boned and are hesitant to make a left hand turn if there is any traffic because we don't know if the car will immediately accelerate or if it will hesitate. We are able to reproduce it to some extent by accelerating the car to about 5-7 mph, letting off the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. We took the car to the dealership and they reproduced it and contacted the Honda techline who told them it is normal. It has been scary for myself and my wife and does not feel normal for the car to have a complete delay in response and then over respond.

Dec 14, 2023

Delay in acceleration. It is an intermittent issue. Noise when gear is changed. Coming from a stop or slow down, pushing the accelerator pedal slightly, the car does not respond. Pushing the accelerator pedal further down the car jerks(responds), accelerates but faster than needed/desired. The accelerator pedal needs to be released, push the pedal again to increase the speed to as needed/desired. Sometimes this results in a loud boom coming from the engine or transmission as if the gears did not engaged previously, but when pushing the accelerator pedal harder. Having searched the internet several people reported the same/similar symptoms. Some people took the car for check up, but no improvement afterward. My dealer could not help me either but offered to check the car out for $ 200 bucks. No engine light is/comes on. This is an intermittent issue, so duplicating does not seem to work. Having worked in maintenance at OCTA, I recall being told symptoms as the above, resulted in changing shifter or transmission or parts thereof.

Nov 20, 2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly. I am not a mechanic. Therefore, I am not so sure. It's available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Misfire of the car can be a serious issue on the road which put the driver safety at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

multiple random times lifting foot from brake at intersection car lunges then completely dies. Car is stuck in street and battery light is on. Battery needs to be jumped to get working, battery and alternator test fine, replaced battery with agm battery three months ago and same thing happened today. Luckily tire store was at the intersection and they were able to jump it to get it going, they tested everything and no issues, they had no idea why it would happen.

Auto Engine Idle Stop function does not restart engine after stopping engine. This situation happens regularly. This causes a dangerous situation when the car does not restart when driving I n traffic. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership and they are unable to resolve.

Aug 28, 2023

Under certain conditions, the accelerator pedals fails to provide propulsion when depressed. The most common scenario in which this happens is when leaving a parking area and proceeding onto a roadway, especially if the parking area is elevated above the street slightly. The driver depresses the accelerator pedal slightly to move the car from a standstill, but then releases the accelerator due to the slight downhill, or transition onto the roadway. When the accelerator pedal is depressed again, nothing happens. Often the pedal will travel all the way to the floor with no result. Or sometimes, the engine/transmission "catches" and an abnormally large amount of power results in spinning tires. In any case, this is extremely dangerous, and has nearly caused accidents with oncoming traffic when pulling out onto busy streets. It happens fairly reliably, approximately 70% of the time when depressing the accelerator pedal more than once. I have not sought dealer service on this yet but will be in the coming weeks.

Aug 16, 2023

The engine starts to stall. It’s scary. It slows down to 0 and when you step on the gas it doesn’t want to go. We bought this van last year and it’s done it since we bought it. I’ve read that Honda knows it’s a problem but there needs to be a recall before someone dies in an accident.

My Idle Stop feature on the car has become very unreliable. After the car enters the stop state, waking up the car has the following difficulties: Almost regularly, the start up process causes the car's audio and electrical to glitch and will put a warning on the dashboard that the collision mitigation system has been engaged. A few times now, the car has simply not woken up from the idle stop state, and the console will tell me to put the car in park to restart, but the shifter won't do anything. I've had to open the driver's side door to reset the electronics, close the door, and then hold the brake and push the start/stop button to get the car to restart.

Jun 17, 2023

I was driving my vehicle, slowing down to turn left, when my car shifted into neutral all by itself. The satellite radio went off and the collision warning appeared on the dash. This could have happened on the highway and I could be dead. I called the Markley Honda Dealership here in Fort Collins however their service department was closed for the day. I plan on calling them first thing Monday morning. Also, the heated seat problem appeared on the dash 5 days ago and it works just fine.

May 28, 2023

Twice reported transmission issues to dealer. They suggested changing transmission fluid, so we did. Issue did not resolve. Check engine light came on. Car won’t shift gears.

May 11, 2023

My 2019 Honda Odyssey regularly hesitates from the stopped position or when quick acceleration is needed on the highway. This causes a safety hazard when making turns into traffic because I am not able to accelerate for approximately 1 second before I am able to increase speed. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. I reported this problem to my dealership and was told that this is "just how the Honda 9-speed transmissions are designed" and there is no fix. Not only does this cause performance issues, there have been several close calls when I have made a turn into traffic and when I have had to accelerate to make a lane change on the freeway.

Apr 11, 2023

Noticed that a check brake system light came on briefly and then when I stopped at a traffic light, the engine shut down as it is supposed to, but when I lifted my foot off the brake, the car didn't restart and I was stranded in the lane (busy road). Pressed the Engine button, but it wouldn't restart. After about 5 minutes (while I called AAA) I tried again and it restarted. Very dangerous - I see multiple other people had the same experience. AAA came to my house and the battery, alternator, and starter all tested good.

When I try to accelerate it won’t go sometimes! It hesitates until it just blasts off. Emissions System Problem

Oct 19, 2022

When stopping at an intersection multiple times the idle stop turns the car off and the vehicle refuses to start again and all electronics stop working until the vehicle is turned off completely and the driver door is opened. Does not happen all the time so can't consistently reproduce to have a service center confirm. Vehicle has been inspected during other recall repairs and I was told the repairs being done would not fix that issue.

Aug 29, 2022

Jerks when downshifting and upshifting. Has been a problem since the vehicle was purchased new off the lot. Is dangerous because of the jerking. Also noticed a clunking noise when transitioning.

Aug 16, 2022

When I come to a complete stop and the start/stop motor goes into idle mode (shuts the engine down), I have a problem that occurs after it. It is unpredictable but when I come out of the idle and the engine is supposed to kick back on, my minivan stalls out. This has happened in heavy traffic areas and it takes 30 seconds to a minute to get the van to turn back on as the electrical system malfunctions. Big safety issue that can be scary in the moment. There are error messages that come up on the dash including "Collision Mitigation System Problem", "Brake System", and the center console system will restart. This problem doesn't happen when I disable the start/stop motor as it doesn't go into idle-stop mode. I have read through online forums recently and it appears this issue has happened in other Honda models dating back to 2016 models. This is clearly an issue across years/models and needs to be addressed. The local Honda dealership said they haven't heard of this problem and couldn't replicate. Therefore, there was no repair provided.

Jul 5, 2022

Collision mitigation system problem error keeps appearing randomly on the screen!

Jun 9, 2022

Frequently the engine will stall on restart after idle stop system cuts the engine off at a light. Occasionally the stall will lead to a full reboot of the control system taking up to 3 minutes to allow a restart of the engine.

May 18, 2022

I purchased my 19' Odyssey in March, almost two months ago. It was used with only 19k miles. During the test drive I mentioned to the sales guy (sitting in passenger seat) a strange noise that sounded like fluttering, but only when accelerating 1k-1500k RPM. I didn't think much of it so I made the purchase. Come May 2nd I got the Oil changed (at the same dealership). I couldn't help but notice the same sound mentioned earlier, but even louder. Since then I've recorded numerous videos of the sound, also worth mentioning the speaker crackling. On Monday of this week I took the car in, showed the mechanic the video of the engine noise and speaker crackle. He mentioned he's only worked on one other odyssey with the same engine sound, resulted being the short block. After they were done, I was told by the service writer that they couldn't replicate the engine noise but did change fiber optic connectors for my speaker crackling (crackle still occurs but only on HD signal). I went over to the Service Manager and showed him the videos, we went for a drive around and heard the noise. He said to drop off the car Friday (today) and he'll have a loaner ready for me. I dropped off the van, spoke with the senior mechanic and the manager, they saw the videos and said they are going to take care of it. They wanted to test drive the car, however the sound is much louder when my car is either cold, or before reaching it's regular temps. I will attach two links to this letter that better show the problem at hand. One being my YouTube channel and the other of the forums where many others just like myself share the same problem. https://youtube.com/channel/UCuOrw9CP7Njl2O_EAF4fsFA https://www.odyclub.com/threads/rattle-noise-on-acceleration-revisited.347853/page-36

Apr 19, 2022

Six months or more ago, my van started acting as though it is stuck in a gear before it finally shifts to the next gear. At first is happened every once in a while, but it now happens several times every trip and always at speeds between 25-40mph. Additionally, when I press down on the gas pedal, there sometimes tends to be a delay in it responding, so I've been very careful about pulling out in traffic. But recently, it seems to be happening while the van is already in motion. And, just yesterday, when accelerating from a stop, the car lurched forward and the wheels screeched. Regarding electrical issues, just this past December, we were driving home from vacation, and as we were passing through downtown Nashville, the car suddenly lost all electrical power. As the car began to slow, my husband pumped the gas as we were on an interstate junction and had no other alternative. Thankfully, after a 10-15 seconds, everything turned back on and we continued to our way. I've owned the van since Oct 2020 and it only has 57K miles on it. We've had several Hondas over the past 25 years (this is our 3rd Odyssey), and have loved them all. But, I'm very concerned about safety as well as the money spent.

Oct 22, 2021

Our car has failed to start 3 times in one week. Our battery has been throughly inspected and nothing appears to be wrong with it. We have jump-started our car in July, and twice this week. (Once yesterday and once today.) We are not sure why this is the case.

Aug 25, 2021

The vehicle hesitates. It chokes so badly that it is a danger to drive. I do not know if this is a result of the new transmission type or a problem with the engine. I suspect that the problem is related to the transmission because of how you reach the point where it chokes. Plus the two dealers it was sent to for repair hinted to me that the issue is the new style transmission. Here's one typical example. Sitting at an intersection waiting to turn left. If I take my foot off the brake and apply my foot to the gas pedal without hesitation it typically works fine. However, if I touch the gas, back off the pedal then hit the gas pedal again, I'm left in the intersection not moving for a few seconds. This has become critically dangerous. I have taken my vehicle to two Honda dealers within the first 10,000 miles. I explained the problem and both dealers said the exact same thing. "Yes, we hear this from all the customers with that transmission. It's normal and nothing can be done to correct it." They did nothing further for it. Since the dealer made no diagnosis of it the manufacturer will not address it. I experienced this issue from the very first day of ownership and there are no warnings.

ON NOVEMBER 11, 2019, I SENT MY HONDA ODYSSEY TO A HONDA DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE. EVERYTHING WENT NORMALLY. AFTER THE MAINTENANCE, I DROVE MY CAR BACK HOME. EVERY DAY, I GO TO WORK AND WORK NORMALLY. ABOUT 10 DAYS AFTER THE MAINTENANCE, THE ENGINE LIGHT SUDDENLY TURNS ON. AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED ON, THE ENGINE LIGHTS RETURNED TO NORMAL. EVERY DAY WHEN I WENT TO WORK, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A POOL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WONDER IF IT WAS WATER OR OIL? I DIDN'T CARE TOO MUCH JUST AFTER FINISHING THE MAINTENANCE. IN THE STATE OF THE CAR, I DROVE IT FOR ANOTHER WEEK. AT THE END, THE ENGINE LIGHT MADE A SOUND AND I CHECKED THAT MY ENGINE OIL WAS ALMOST GONE. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE. THE ENGINE OIL THAT I JUST FINISHED MAINTENANCE WAS GONE WITHIN 20 DAYS. THIS IS TOO SCARY. THE ENGINE RAN OUT OF OIL. I HAD DRIVEN FOR SO MANY DAYS. IT'S JUST KILLING. I RETURNED THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT JUST HELPED ME FILL UP THE ENGINE OIL WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION. THIS WAY I CAN'T ACCEPT IT. PLEASE HELP ME DEFEND MY RIGHTS. WHAT CAUSES THE LOSS OF ENGINE OIL? FIND OUT LATER I'M AFRAID I'LL DIE. AT PRESENT, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE OF THE CAR SHOWS THAT THE AIR PRESSURE IS NOT ENOUGH. I CHECKED THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT PIERCING, AND I ALSO PERFORMED A LOT OF AIR REFILLS, WHICH DID NOT WORK. IT SHOULD SHOW THAT THE AIR PRESSURE IS INSUFFICIENT. THANK YOU FOR AUDITING MY ISSUE TO HELP ME COMPLETE MY RIGHTS. NOW I THINK THAT THE ENGINE IS SCARED WITHOUT OIL.

WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED IN THE PROCESS OF SHIFTING BETWEEN 3 AND 4TH GEAR VAN SHIFTS VERY HARD . SO MUCH SO THAT AT TIMES MY BODY IS THRUSTED FORWARD WHICH CAUSES ME TO MOMENTARILY LOSE SIGHT OF ROAD. WHILE SHIFTING IT SEEMS TO VEHICLE SEEMS LUNGE AT HIGHER SPEED. THIS OCCURS AT LOW RPM AND WILL USUALLY OCCUR WHEN SPEED HITS 24MPH. HARD SHIFT ALSO OCCURS WHEN SLOWING DOWN BUT NOT AS COMMON . THIS OCCURS WHEN DRIVING ON STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHEN IT REQUIRES DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. WHEN VEHICLE WAS 1ST PURCHASED THIS WAS NOT EXPERIENCED, IT WAS UNTIL AFTER 6 MONTHS THAT THIS STARTED OCCURRING. HAD DEALERSHIP LOOK AT VEHICLE AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE ISSUE AND INFORMED ME THAT VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS INTENDED. MY CONCERN IS SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND FEEL THERE IS FLAW IN THE DESIGN WHICH HONDA IS NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY NOR WILLING TO FIX THE ISSUE

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING MORE THAN 20 TO 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND STALLED. NALLEY HONDA (4197 JONESBORO RD, UNION CITY, GA 30291, (404) 994-4321) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED A WEEK LATER. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE DEALER HAD PERFORMED SOME REPAIRS AND DID NOT TELL HER. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED ONLINE AND SAW MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT SUSPECTED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

CAR HAS UNDER 7000 MILES. ENGINE STRUGGLES WITH POWER IN LOWER GEARS. THERE IS ALSO A JUMP WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO FORWARD. THE JUMP FEEL LIKE A TRANSMISSION GEAR TRANSFER ISSUE. TODAY AS AN EXAMPLE, WHEN DEPARTING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I HAD TO FULLY COMPRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO GET THE ENGINE TO RESPOND. IN GENERAL, THE LOWER GEARS FEEL SLUGGISH AND THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE PURCHASE. THE ENGINE SIMPLY SOUNDS DIFFERENT THAN ANY OF OUR PREVIOUS HONDA ODYSSEY'S. AT HIGHER SPEEDS, ON A HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE IS RESPONSIVE. WE'RE IN A DO LOOP WITH MECHANICS AS THE PROBLEM IS NOT ALWAYS REPEATABLE. HOPE THIS HELPS IF YOU START SEEING TRENDS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE STOPPED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH TO A HIGHER GEAR TO ACCELERATE. OCEAN HONDA OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD (5841 LANKERSHIM BLVD, NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA 91601, (888) 282-4550) COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN DAILY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A CALLBACK FROM A CASE MANAGER. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT FEEL THE FAILURE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.*BF CONSUMER STATED THREE TIMES TRANS FAILED "SHIFT" INTO HIGHER GEAR.*JB

AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING A BRAND NEW HONDA ODYSSEY 2019, WITH 177 MILEAGE, THE CAR HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, BLIND SPOT INFO SYSTEM PROBLEM, AND EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM. AS I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, I NOTICED THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED, I SAW THE RPM INCREASED TO 5000-6000R/MIN AND I HEARD LOUD VROOM NOISE COMING OUR FROM MY CAR. WHILE THE CAR STILL HAD SOME MOMENTUM RIGHT OFF THE FREEWAY, I MADE TWO RIGHT TURN AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE STOP SIGN NEAR MY APARTMENT. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AT AROUND 8:30PM, AND OTHER CARS HAD TO DRIVE AROUND US. MY WIFE AND TWO TODDLERS WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME. WE WERE VERY FRIGHTENED BY THIS INCIDENT AS WE COULD NOT BELIEVE AN ENGINE/TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAN HAPPENED TO A BRAND NEW HONDA CAR WITH ONLY 177 MILEAGE.

ON DECEMBER 19, 2018, THE DAY AFTER WE HAD THE MAINTENANCE AND BRAKE FLUID REPAIRED, WE WERE DRIVING THE CAR ON A FREEWAY. SUDDENLY, THE CAR SHOOK WILDLY FOR A MOMENT AND THICK WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO ISSUE FROM THE CAR. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT WORK, SO OUR CAR COULD ONLY REACH SPEED UP TO 25 MILES PER HOUR, MUCH SLOWER THAN THE OTHER CARS HONKING AND RACING PAST US ON THE FREEWAY. WE BARELY MADE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT, WHERE WE HAD TO PARK AT THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO CHECK WHAT WAS GOING ON. WE WERE UNDER EXTREME DANGER AND STRESS FROM THIS INCIDENT AS IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WE WERE EXTREMELY CLOSE TO COLLIDING WITH OTHER CARS. HONESTLY, NO WORDS CAN DARE TO EXPRESS THE FEAR AND DREAD OF IMMINENT DEATH WE EXPERIENCED THAT TIME. WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO BE CRUSHED TO DEATH AT THAT MOMENT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT, WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS GONE, AND THE ACCELERATOR STARTED WORKING NORMALLY. HOWEVER, ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM HAS SEEMED TO HAVE 'GONE AWAY' FOR NOW, WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN OR WHERE IT MAY OCCUR AGAIN. IT SCARES US THAT THE CAR SEEMS SO INNOCENTLY NORMAL AGAIN.

UPON STARTUP OF THE VEHICLE, A STRONG BURNING SMELL WAS SENSED. THE VEHICLE WAS BRIEFLY PUT INTO A SLOW REVERSE TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND A VERY ROUGH IDLE STARTED, BLACK SMOKE APPEARED OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE AND EVERY POSSIBLE ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ONE AFTER THE OTHER ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN BRIEFLY PUT INTO DRIVE FOR A COUPLE INCHES FORWARD BACK INTO THE GARAGE WITH VERY LITTLE POWER ON ACCELERATION AND AN EVEN STRONGER BURNING SMELL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HAVING THE CAR TOWED IN TO BE EVALUATED. UPON EVALUATION THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ISSUE WAS A LEAKING FUEL INJECTOR CAUSED BY A FAULTY FUEL RAIL DESIGN FROM THE FACTORY. THE INJECTOR LEAK CAUSED TOO MUCH FUEL TO BE PUT INTO THE CYLINDER CAUSING THE SPARK PLUGS TO FOWL OUT. THE DEALER STATED HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE ALSO IN 2018 MODELS AND THEY ASSUMED THEY WOULD HAVE CORRECTED THE FUEL RAIL DESIGN FOR THE 2019 MODEL. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT MAKE ANY REPAIR UNTIL THE REDESIGNED FUEL RAIL WAS RELEASED A MONTH FROM NOW. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW 2 MONTHS AGO AND CURRENTLY HAS APX 5,000 MILES. THE FACT THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY AN ERROR IN THE FUEL RAIL DESIGN FROM THE FACTORY INDICATES THE PROBLEM LIKELY HAS BEEN CAUSING DAMAGE AND POSING A SAFETY RISK OF POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE FROM THE LEAKING FUEL INJECTOR THE ENTIRE 5,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. ALSO, IT IS UNKNOWN HOW THE LEAK MAY AFFECT THE ENGINE IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THE LEAK AND DESIGN FLAW PERSISTING SINCE IT WAS SOLD NEW FROM THE FACTORY.

(EVENT 1 AND 2 HAPPENED 10 MINUTES APART) OUR NEW VAN SHIFTS IN THE PARK WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (62 MPH). WE TOOK IT TO FREEWAY HONDA THE FIRST TIME AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO RENDER ANY ERRORS, SO THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US. (EVENT 3) OCCURRED ON 12/16/2018 AROUND 11:42 AM. WE WERE DRIVING NEAR THE 405/5 Y MERGE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SHIFTED INTO PARK. WE WERE ABLE TO CAPTURE THIS EVENT ON VIDEO AND HERE IS THE DIRECT YOUTUBE LINK TO THE EVENT: HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/KIZTKMOYI-M . CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE HONDA DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THEY WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THERE IS ALSO A "CRASH MITIGATION ERROR" THAT APPEARS IN OUR INSTRUMENT PANEL FROM TIME TO TIME THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE AND CANNOT FIX.

1. 2ND ROW DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS DO NOT "LOCK" INTO PLACE WHEN FOLDED FORWARD, CREATING A "FREE FLYING" SEAT WHEN DRIVING/IN MOTION AND AN ENTRAPMENT ISSUE WHEN PARKED FOR 3RD ROW PASSENGERS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE 3RD ROW. THIS IS SPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON A HILL. MY 3 YEAR OLD HAS BEEN HIT AND INJURED BY THE SEAT ON A SEVERAL OCCASIONS. 2. ENGINE LURCHES AND STALLS WHILE IN MOTION. STALLING CAUSES POTENTIAL RISK FOR ACCIDENT. 3. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN ON OCCASION. THIS MEANS GETTING 2ND AND 3RD ROW PASSENGERS OUT OF TRUNK OR CLIMBING THROUGH TO DRIVER/PASSENGER SEAT. ALL OF THESE HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE 1 AND 3. HAD NO SOLUTION FOR #2 (A SIMPLE LOCKING ADDITION TO THE SEAT FOOTING WOULD FIX #2, TOYOTA SIENNA'S LOCK ON PLACE)
