Upon starting the vehicle, it failed to engage in reverse. Although the backup camera activated, the vehicle remained stationary. After multiple ignition cycles, the vehicle eventually engaged in reverse and then moved forward in Drive. However, shortly after, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and entered "limp mode," restricting speed to approximately 15–20 mph regardless of throttle input. The engine revved excessively high without corresponding acceleration, and a severe burning/heat smell emanated from the transmission/engine compartment. This failure occurred without any prior warning; notably, no dashboard warning lights or "Check Engine" indicators illuminated to alert the driver of a mechanical or electronic fault. The sudden, un-signaled drop in speed on a public roadway created a significant safety hazard for following traffic and risked a rear-end collision. The vehicle was towed to a certified Honda dealership where the Transmission Control Module (TCM) was diagnosed as failed. The TCM is currently being replaced under the Honda Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty. We do not know what else requires replacement and repairs. The dealership will not cover the replacement of the transmission fluid, or engine fluid, despite the fluid being subjected to extreme heat and potential damage during the failure and subsequent limp mode.

Car would randomly die while I was driving, causing my children and I to be in severe danger in the middle of a busy road multiple times

This is now the second time that we are having a rear hatch failure. with about 37,000 miles on this van, the control module shorted out due to water getting into it due to a bad seam (according to other Odyssey owners who are suing Honda for this). We could not get the hatch to open or close, so I paid the dealer to fix it. Honda did give us a check after the fact to cover some of the bill. Now, with less than 51,000 miles, it has happened again. The hatch will not open or close. In the event of an emergency, this is a major safety issue, to be potentially stuck inside the cabin. The hatch started going up and down randomly, and we could not control it. Now, it won't go up or down. This van is is a mess. Not only does it have this issues, but the rear back up camera still does not work, even though it was recalled...they would not honor their recall, and the brakes occasionally come on without cause, when going around a corner and there is oncoming traffic. It thinks that we are headed for a collision, and it's another safety problem here in the northeast. Honda needs to own up to their quality problems relative to these three safety issues.

FEDERAL SAFETY RECALL 23V-431 FAILED AFTER FOUR REPAIR ATTEMPTS - MULTIPLE SAFETY SYSTEMS NOW NON-FUNCTIONAL My Honda was subject to Federal Safety Recall 23V-431 (MOST Communication Cable causing backup camera failure). After FOUR repair attempts, the original defect persists AND multiple additional safety-critical systems are now failing. REPAIR HISTORY: August 7, 2023 (30,749 miles) - Honda San Carlos performed recall repair 23V-431. Dealer claimed issue resolved. October 5, 2024 - Original backup camera/infotainment failure returned. I documented with photo evidence but problem was intermittent. September 29, 2025 (48,038 miles) - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Same backup camera failure. Dealer attempted repair. November 18, 2025 (48,928 miles) - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Problem persists. Dealer claimed repair complete. December 20, 2025 - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Original problem PLUS multiple NEW safety system failures now appearing: Backup camera (original recall issue) - STILL FAILING Adaptive Cruise Control - ERROR Collision Mitigation System - ERROR Lane Keep Assist System - ERROR Auto High Beam System - ERROR Front camera - ERROR DEALER RESPONSE: Honda San Carlos now claims new failures are "unrelated" to recall 23V-431 and proposes $2,900 for front camera replacement. I declined as all failing systems communicate via the MOST network that was subject to the original recall. SAFETY CONCERN: I now have a vehicle with MULTIPLE non-functional federally-mandated and safety-critical systems due to what appears to be the same MOST communication defect that recall 23V-431 was supposed to fix. The recall remedy has demonstrably failed and the problem is worsening. Honda's recall remedy is inadequate and has resulted in cascading safety system failures. Vehicle is unsafe to operate with non-functional collision mitigation, lane keep assist, and camera systems.

The auto slide door latch will not disengage. The rear passenger door cannot be opened electronically OR manually.

Dash has warning light showing "Power Tailgate Problem", and power tailgate will not function. The next day there was heavy rain, and the dash had a flickering warning showing the tailgate was open. This also caused the interior lights to flicker on and off as the tailgate open warning was flickering on and off. I returned the van to my home for fear that the tailgate would open automatically while driving down the road. I had the tailgate control module replaced on February 27, 2025 for this same issue, which was due to a tailgate seal leaking water onto the tailgate control module that shorted the module. This is now the second time within less than one year this same module has shorted out. This is a known issue with a class action lawsuit already filed against Honda that should result in a recall. The potential danger of the tailgate opening while driving makes this minivan not usable to transport my kids for fear of their safety.

Make: Honda Odyssey 2020 Mileage at Failure: ~40,000 miles Incident Description What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The front sensing camera system failed, which controls multiple driver-assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Lane Departure Mitigation, and Collision Mitigation Braking System. When the issue occurred, all related dashboard warning lights illuminated simultaneously. The vehicle’s front camera module is still installed and can be made available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the camera malfunctioned, all driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems were disabled without warning. This created a serious safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly lost its lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation capabilities while in motion. It increased the risk of a crash, especially during highway driving or when relying on these systems for lane and speed control. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The Honda dealership confirmed the issue after diagnostic testing and stated that the front camera module had failed and must be replaced. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Honda dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The dashboard displayed multiple warning messages, including: ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Mitigation These warnings appeared suddenly at approximately 40,000 miles and have persisted since. The dealer quoted $2500 Also I found numerous reports from other Honda owners experiencing the same camera-system failure at low millages.

The Infotainment system started blanking out and restarting while driving. This issue has started about 1 year ago to this date. it has occured on multiple occassions, We have brought it to Honda to get it repaired under warranty but they refused. The refusal was due to the fact that they could not "duplicate" the issue regardless of having Video Proof of the issue. The second issue is the Multipurpose camera Malfuncition. My vehicle is no longer under warranty and now I have to shell out $800 USD to fix this issue. All the lights have popped up on the Dash. Both issue have not been adressed by Honda, they refuse to fix the issue with countless other electrical problems that this van has aquired over the short lifespan of this vehicle.

Oct 19, 2025

The windshield camera went out. I am now unable to use cruise control auto lights auto breaking.

Oct 18, 2025

Complete infotainment system loss and screen blackouts Repeated “Network connection lost” errors Inoperative reverse camera and parking assist systems Ongoing 12V battery drainage due to system faults My Honda dealer has diagnosed the problem as a defective floor wire harness and advised that the entire harness kit must be replaced at an estimated cost of approximately $7,000. While I greatly appreciate the 80% goodwill coverage already offered, the remaining $1,400 out-of-pocket expense is still a significant hardship — particularly since this is a known and documented defect affecting vehicle safety systems. This issue directly impacts the federally mandated rear visibility system (FMVSS 111), rendering the reverse camera and related safety functions inoperative. As such, this is not simply a convenience or infotainment problem, but a critical safety concern. Honda is charging $7000 to fix it and now it says it’s the floor harness kit. They are only covering 80%. I’m required to pay 1400 even though this is a known problem with this vehicle and it’s been occurring since I have owned the vehicle due to multiple visits to the dealership for a resolution, thousands of dollars being spent trying to figure out what it was, we already replaced the head unit and Head unit harness, multiple sensors on the doors, which were not even necessary because the battery was draining from the head unit and now I have no camera and my car is crashing and shutting off and Honda is refusing to escalate

Oct 10, 2025

The Infotainment system continually goes blank, while driving leaving the backup camera disabled and without navigation. I returned the van a week after purchase and did not get it back for a month. Despite the recall was never completed. It has been back to the dealer 6 times for the same issue with no improvement. Currently the problem still exist and the dealer WILL NOT HONOR the uncompleted RECALL ISSUE. The dealer insists the recall was completed yet the original issue was never resolved and is saying I will need to cover all costs.

Oct 8, 2025

I am submitting this complaint regarding a faulty Multi-Model Seat Weight Sensor (SWS) in my 2020 Honda Odyssey. I understand that NHTSA Recall 24V-064 covers this issue for certain vehicles; however, my VIN is not included, even though my vehicle is exhibiting the same malfunction described in the recall notice. Multiple independent mechanics and certified airbag technicians have inspected my vehicle and confirmed that the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) circuit is open, indicating that the front passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision. This represents a serious safety hazard consistent with the defect outlined in the official recall documentation (NHTSA Recall 24V-064 Report: [XXX] ) The warning light for this malfunction was present when I purchased the vehicle in August 2025. Honda Odyssey Idle Stop system failure Vehicle: 2020 Honda Odyssey (Elite) Incident description: While driving, the vehicle's "Idle Stop" system engaged as I came to a complete stop at [e.g., a traffic light, intersection, stop sign]. The engine shut off as designed, but failed to restart automatically when I released the brake pedal. This left my vehicle stalled and disabled in the middle of [e.g., an intersection, a lane of traffic] with no forward power. I was scared as there were lots of cars behind me in the intersection. This has happened over a dozen times. Safety risk: This failure created an immediate and dangerous safety hazard. My vehicle was a risk for being rear-ended by traffic from behind, and my family was stranded in a vulnerable position. The vehicle was unable to move out of harm's way, and I had to put the vehicle in park and manually restart the engine. This is unacceptable for a system designed to work seamlessly and automatically. Additional information: This is not an isolated incident. The auto start-stop failure has occurred multiple times since March 2025. The system failure has put me and my passengers in a position of significant risk multiple times. Failed component: The vehicle's "Auto Idle Stop" (AIS) system, which failed to restart the engine after it was automatically shut off. Resolution: An immediate and permanent recall is necessary to address this dangerous defect. Existing service bulletins have not corrected the problem. I urge the NHTSA to require Honda to provide an effective, long-term solution to ensure the safety of Odyssey owners.

The car had a leak in the trunk that was not our fault it was not due to an accident but rather came that way when we bought it brand new. We were unaware of this leak and now our entire trunk control panel is flooded and the trunk is totally useless as it will not open at all, not even manually. The only way to open it is to crawl to the back and open it from the inside. I asked Honda for a diagnostic and it cost me $200 for them to tell me “yeah we see this issue a lot in the older odyssey” and that it would cost over $1000 to fix. But this was not normal wear and tear or anything caused from lack of care in my part but it was made that way. I am shocked that when I did research on this issue it was happening to ALOT of people and idk why this isn’t part of the recall list.

Internal failure of the multipurpose camera/millimeter wave radar unit with code U300-49; available for inspection upon request. All safety features linked to multipurpose camera such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto high beam, collision mitigation system, and road departure mitigation system are no longer functional. This problem has been confirmed at the local Honda dealership in addition to the numerous forum posts made by like Honda Odyssey owners with this same reoccurring issue. There were no warning symptoms or messages prior to failure.

My can intermittently fails to start after the auto idle start system has engaged. I am stopped at a light on a busy road. When the light turns the car tries to start but fails. Some times it is able to start but I get warnings that multiple systems had an issue or at disabled. Other times it fails to start completely and I have to cycle the power off and open my driver door before I can start the car. This has been happening for more than a year and the battery has already been replaced.

Sep 13, 2025

On 9/11/25 and 9/12/25. Vehicle would not start. Engine would not turnover and no power to display or lights. After 15 minutes, each occurrence car would start with my diehard jump starter. Battery replaced 3 weeks prior and also checked on 9/11/25 . Battery should 600 cold crank amps and alternator was good. Then on 9/13/25, I was at a red light and proceeded when light turn green and shut off. Was same results afterwards wait 15 minutes and jump started.

Sep 9, 2025

The multipurpose camera in mounted underneath the rearview mirror stopped working. No apparent reason for the malfunction to shut the vehicle off while filling gas and then five different warning lights occurred, including issues with lane keep assist, adaptive, cruise control, automatic, breaking, and several other safety features no explanation for the failure when that vehicle was taken to the dealer and currently being charged $2500 for a replacement of the camera and labor associated with the repair. My belief is that the system is malfunctioning due to overheating, which is a design issue associated with the vehicle and isn’t something that I should be responsible for.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on two occasions while driving with the idle stop feature engaged, while the vehicle was idling and stopped, the engine failed to restart as intended when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer however, the failure was not able to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Sliding doors don’t close. “Left sliding door problem” flashes on dash often. Have to force doors to close all the way. They try to close and then recoil.

My car went completely dead while stopped in traffic on a busy street. My kids were in the car and thankfully I was able to crank it by pressing the start button. This issue has already been “fixed” and the dealership “cannot replicate”

The forward-facing camera and/or radar unit failed one morning while running errands, resulting in 5 separate ADAS system failures. With these safety features not working, our safety and the safety of others is at risk. We took it to our dealer and were told we would have to pay a diagnostic fee of $205, even though they clearly already knew what the problem was- based on the multiple complaints through NHTSA and various other forums and websites from Odyssey and other Honda model owners and across multiple years. The problem was confirmed by the dealer and they quoted us $2025 and we're still not sure if that includes just the camera and/or the radar unit, which is another $600 part. Other dealers have quoted only $1200 to fix the exact same thing, with others charging more than double that. The 5 separate warning messages scroll across our screen repeatedly and are very distracting as you're driving. With multiple electrical issues already in recall status by Honda, this is another one that they should be taking responsibility for and not dumping this defective electrical repair on their customers. Who's to say that we won't be in this exact same predicament 3 or 5 years from now if the part or parts aren't fixed! Definitely expect more from Honda... very disappointed and feel betrayed by the inferior parts they're passing on as quality products.

Several months ago my wife was driving when the automatic brake system engaged when a car was turning in front of her. This engagement startled her and she felt the emergency braking was unnecessary considering the speed and distance the car was in front of her. This incident concerned her and made her lose confidence in the safety of the car. Then just recently we began encountering a almost consistent but sometimes intermittent brake System Error along with multiple trouble notices about problems with Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keep Assist System, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.. when using the car. We received an error code U3000-49 reporting an Internal electronic failure in the multipurpose camera unit. Online searches of this issue seem to be very common and concerning on how many are occurring considering this is a safety system. Our van has approximately 54,000 miles on it.

Jul 31, 2025

The auto idle start/stop feature failed to recognize a bad battery and shut the car off while I was stopped in the left turn lane. The vehicle failed to start and lost all power, including hazard lights and brake lights. I had no way of indicating to other drivers behind me that the vehicle was disabled other than getting out of the vehicle and waving them around me. This happened while I was taking my son to school and could have resulted in us getting in an accident or causing another accident. Honda was not able to identify root cause and replaced the battery. I do not trust this vehicle as reliable or safe any longer.

The current 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey recall also is applicable to 2020 models. The Infotainment system frequently is popping or crackling from the speakers or no sound from the audio system, display issues, and shuts off completely.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey equipped with a Cabin Watch camera. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Lane Keeping Assist and the Cabin Watch camera became inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated that even though the Cabin Watch had become inoperable, the Cabin Watch plastic case was constantly burning hot. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the Cabin Watch camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

My Vehicle was at the dealer for service in March of 2025. At that time they performed RECALL 23-008 although the vehicle did not have issues with the idle stop system. Since some time in June, at multiple occasions, the vehicle shifted to Park on its own when restarting from idle stop. Last night, the vehicle fully shut off and lost all electrical power when restarting from idle stop leaving me stranded in the dark at a busy intersection without the ability to turn on my hazard lights. The vehicle repowered after a few minutes. When the system restarted, the info-tainment system activated the anti theft software which happens during full power loss.

The power tailgate control module has been failing. That makes power tailgate problem light come on, than the tailgate beeps and eventually fails. It unlatches itself, and won't latch until the control module has been replaced. My control module has been replaced 3 times, and now a week later after being replaced my tailgate has failed again, the power tailgate problem light is on and tailgate won't open. I was told by Honda dealership that theres a water leak that's causing it. Along with replacing the unit they are trying to seal it but it's still failing.

The start/stop system engaging at a red light on a busy highway shutting the engine off. When the light turned green and my foot was released from the brake the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle would not go into neutral so i was stuck in the lane of a major highway. This happened twice before and Honda said they needed to reprogram the system. They did and now it has happened again leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation.

Our Odyssey has had mounting concerns w/electrical system. These are safety issues. 10/20. Work done related to electrical system-rear camera having issues. Left/rt rear door wires were replaced due to recall. Software update completed. Gage control module software updated-know issue.10/23: rear windshield wiper not functioning-electrical issue & pump malfunctioned. Idol stop was not properly working. The car would stall out at stoplights as lifting foot off the brake & attempting to accelerate. Battery was replaced at this time & the vehicle was only 3 years old-we were charged. Issues with our car are electrical related & are seeing many others with similar issues. 8/24-11/24: key fob batteries died. After batteries were changed, issues with the power windows began immediately. Windows would not going/up or down all the way and were sticking. Soon after they stopped working all together. Auto locks wouldn’t work & the gas tank latch had to manually open to fill the gas tank. Finally took the car in for diagnosis. Said the motor in the door was broken & needed to be replaced. We were not convinced that this was the real issue b/c the problem began immediately after the fob battery issue. Instead of new parts, the dealer glued pieces together & gave us a discounted price. This was & is a real safety concern especially knowing windows were altogether not functioning & we don't believe that it was properly addressed. 2/25: After snow/icy weather front passenger side windshield wiper dispenser/sprayer wasn’t working. Upon checking, discovered it had become dislodged. Adjusted the piece & reattached this piece into place. As soon as car was turned on ,right after reinserting the piece into place warning lights came on-all brake/lane mitigation lights. After diagnosis, said it was an issue with camera at windshield & the camera needed to be replaced. Odyssey groups state electrical issue are know and many w/2020 Odysseys. 5/25 Issues are beginning again with idol stop.

Recently, my 2020 Honda Odyssey required a new battery replacement. Shortly after the battery was replaced, the front camera system failed unexpectedly. This failure has caused a complete loss of all safety features dependent on the front camera, including but not limited to: Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) A diagnostic assessment revealed that the front camera system needs replacement with an estimated cost of $1,200. This issue arose without any previous physical damage to the camera or windshield and appears to be electronic or firmware related. According to Honda, this happens frequently when a battery is replaced. Context of Vehicle History: This vehicle has already been subject to 11+ recalls, which have affected various major systems and components. The accumulation of defects and the continuing need for critical system repairs is deeply concerning, particularly for a relatively recent model known for its family-oriented safety features. Owner’s Statement: Given the number of recalls and now a costly camera system failure that directly affects key safety functions, I find this situation unacceptable for a vehicle of this age and mileage (72,000). The loss of these features significantly compromises driver and passenger safety. I believe this issue may be part of a broader reliability concern and request that Honda (or the responsible service entity) address this matter urgently and consider full or partial financial assistance for the repair.

May 2, 2025

The front camera has failed for apparently no reason at all. There has been no crash, no damage on our end. We turned the car on and all of the safety warnings came on. The dealership has inspected it and said the code is for the camera failing. Many warning lights appear on the dash due to none of the safety features working without the front camera. This has caused all of the adaptive safety features to fail. There have been no recalls yet, despite the recalls for the rear camera, and many other odyssey owners having the same issue with the front camera. We have reported it to honda and were told that it has been reported by others, but not enough times to issue a recall. It is expensive to fix and poses a serious danger to leave due to none of the safety features working. This is a manufacturing defect that honda is not taking seriously.

We have 2020 Honda Odyssey with 4500 miles and multi purpose camera quit working and Honda service center ran a scan and confirmed malfunction of camera and replacement costed over $1600. Internet tells me that many other similar vehicle have similar issue. It should be a recall and fixed free.

Apr 24, 2025

There is some electrical or sensor issue with the 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-Ls. All my dashboard lights turn on, then I take it to the dealership to tell me they just had to do a system update. This is the 3rd time it has happened. This issue needs to be investigated. Honda is robbing me and many other owners of this issue.

Apr 16, 2025

1) Infotainment system crackles, pops, and shuts off frequently. Will not come on sometimes until 5 minutes into the drive, meaning we cannot use our rearview backup camera. This was recalled in other models but not our specific VIN. 2) “Shutter grill problem; power reduced” comes on randomly even when just idling. 3) Sliding doors will bounce shut or not open all of a sudden! Both doors affected similarly. Turning off the power doors does not solve the issue, so we lose access to one side. There was a recall on sliding doors for other models but not our VIN. We are taking it into the dealer to investigate but this is a safety issue.

Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system. had many of the other same symptoms that people reported. our car would go into idle mode and then it would not restart. I would have to turn the car off I tried to do various things just to get it started again. this happened one time was the exited the highway and also happened coming out of a car wash location. I took it to Honda and they said because of the idle stop functionality the starter went bad and they had to replace that. I was compensated some money from Honda but I believe I was only done so because they knew something was wrong and I really believe there should be a recall for this. it is completely unsafe and very scary when it happens especially in the middle of traffic. our starter was replaced because of this issue on November 5th 2024, but the symptoms had been going on for that whole calendar year prior

Apr 11, 2025

The idle start stop feature constantly doesn’t work. When stopped at a light or stop sign the engine will turn off and when I release the break it is supposed to reengage the engine. Instead it stalls out causing me to have to put the car in park and restart the car. There have been several incidents where this is during rush hour traffic causing traffic jams. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes before it will actually turn over. The car is 5 years old and I have had the replace the battery twice and I have been told that this feature puts a lot of pressure on the battery. Never can the dealership recreate the issue.

Mar 31, 2025

I was stopped at a light at a busy intersection and when I went to drive when the light turned green, my van did nothing. It had turned off the engine when I stopped at the intersection. I tried to switch gears and it wouldn’t change. I was kind of panicking because I was holding up a ton of traffic and my toddler was in the backseat so I can’t remember exactly what was happening on my dash. I would turn the car on and off but I could not get it back into drive as the engine would not restart, but all of the electronics were still working. Finally someone offered to jump the car with one of those portable battery jumpers and that worked. I drove straight to Autozone to see if it was something their machines would pick up on but they couldn’t find anything wrong. The dealer also couldn’t find anything wrong. I believe this is related to the auto idle stop feature.

Mar 29, 2025

My 2020 Honda Odyssey died at a stop light while driving on 5/12/2023. The auto on/off feature caused the van to turn off at a stop light and then there was not enough power in the battery to start the car again. It had to be towed to the Honda dealership where they could not diagnose the issue. They said the alternator was fine and the battery charged up fine. So no root cause found. Then 6/26/2023 - I drove the van for an hour to the airport and back, parked it in the garage (engine off) for about 10 minutes, and the van struggled to start but did on the second attempt. Then on 7/7/2023 - my wife took the van to the store, came back home and parked it in the garage with the engine off. She came back 5 minutes later to leave again and the van wouldn’t start. The battery was drained. Now it’s sitting on a trickle charger just so I can take it into the dealer. On 7/10/23 - I had the battery replaced and the Dealer did some sort of warranty work to help and that corrected the issue. UNTIL it died again On 11/27/23, I had to get yet again another battery as the same issues began happening and it was deemed a “bad battery”. Throughout 2024 and now into 2025 I continually have the same issues where the vehicle will stutter but still managed to kick back on after an auto shutoff. I have been to the dealer countless times and they continually tell me there isn’t anything wrong. Something is happening that causes this - whether is an electrical parasitic drain or something else. I have heard that other vehicles this has happened to but Honda claims nothing. I also had a case opened with Honda on this that never went anywhere - Case #13952151 There is clearly something wrong and not being able to diagnose it is even more frustrating given the issue. If it drains while driving - I CANNOT DO ANYTHING. I can’t even put it in Neutral to move it manually because everything is electronic!!

I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety defect that persists in my Honda vehicle following Honda's PGM-FI Idle Stop software update. Recently, I experienced a dangerous incident on [XXX] outside Washington, DC. My vehicle completely stalled in heavy traffic, leaving me unable to start my car on the highway. The vehicle would not restart for approximately one minute, creating a significant safety hazard as traffic moved around me. Of particular concern was that during this incident it is not clear whether or not the airbag system would deploy since the car was off. This is a major safety issue and, reviewing complaints online, I am not the only customer to experience this, despite having received the software update. This is not an isolated incident. The vehicle's auto start-stop feature continues to malfunction, repeatedly shutting down when it goes into idle. This issue is also causing significant battery drain, making the vehicle increasingly unreliable and unsafe to operate. Worse, Honda indicates that this feature can act up when the battery is low, but the feature itself drains the battery. You can turn the feature off every time you get in the car, but this is not a fix. I have been informed by Honda there is no way to permanently disable the feature. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate this matter. The current recall repair has proven insufficient to resolve the safety defect, and the malfunction creates unacceptable risks for me and my family. This issue requires immediate attention to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of all road users. Please require Honda to implement a repair that allows consumers to permanently disable this feature. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Regarding my 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicle, there is a manufacturing defect which allows water to infiltrate the rear driver’s side body panel, where it comes into contact with the control unit for the rear power tailgate (a/k/a power liftgate). Once water infiltrates the control unit, it causes the power tailgate to malfunction. Many consumers have reported that the malfunctions include the tailgate opening and closing without notice and while operating the vehicle, the tailgate failing to open, and the tailgate failing to close. With the control module getting wet and becoming oxidize/faulty that also makes the battery work harder which causes the car not to start, etc.. Consumers are then forced to pay out of pocket for expensive repairs only to have the replacement control unit also prone to future failures caused by further water infiltration. Honda of Tenafly is saying this is not a recall and not covered. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have had 3 Power Tailgate modules fail due to water leaks in the rear panel or window of the vehicle. I have had 2 leaks repaired and two modules replaced within a 6 month period (June '24 and December '24). 6 weeks later (Feb 14, 2024) have had the 3 module fail due to water intrusion following a heavy rain.

Jan 29, 2025

It happened twice this month already. Once while driving, the car lost power (as if engine was never turned on), and the gear changed to N so I tried to slow down, then the power came back on, and then I was able to shift to D and continue my trip. Second one happened this morning. It was on auto-shutting idle position and when I put my foot on the accelerator, it completely lost power again (I recently changed the battery and tested in the afternoon and all working properly).

After driving for about a minute, there is a beep and the brake system warning light comes on. Then the dash begins cycling through multiple warning messages - LKAS/ACC/CMBS/RDM - and will not stop. Now the repair shop tells us that the front multipurpose camera ADAS needs to be removed and replaced, and the ADAS calibrated. Including the fee to diagnose the issue, total cost is $2,980. Van has about 56,500 miles. We have already had it towed twice for battery replacement following similar symptoms, and had battery replaced both times. But with the new battery only 3 months old, it became clear the issue was bigger.

Infotainment system - while driving suddenly there is a cracking/ shrieking startling noise and infotainment system goes off shutting down ( network communication lost sign comes on) and the screen goes blank. No camera works. Radio and all electronic display goes off for a couple of minutes. Slowly, it begins to come back to life by itself in a couple of minutes. This happens randomly on and off. In last 4 weeks, it happened at least 15 times while driving. Honda dealership has my car for three days without a diagnosis or correction.

I have less than 35k miles on my car and I have 5 warning that appeared out of no where. My car has never been in an accident and I take care of it. I searched on YouTube and apparently this is very common issue. It cost $3500 to fix and needs to be with a dealer. The 5 warnings are Issue with car 1) Lane keep problem assist, 2)auto-high beam problem, 3) road departure mitigation system, 4)adaptive cruise control, 5) collision mitigation system, The car is 4 years old and should not have this problem but a lot of people who own the same exact model have tge same issue. Honda needs to do a recall and fix it for free

Dec 12, 2024

I just started up the car one morning and had multiple sensor warnings. Brought it to the Honda dealership and told it was an internal sensor camera malfunction and wanted $2000+ to fix it. This honestly should be a recall as I’ve had several other Honda owners complaining about the same thing which is a huge safety concern

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while stopped at a traffic signal he was depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, when the signal changed, and as he released the brake pedal, the vehicle was not turning on. The contact placed the vehicle in park (P) and restarted the engine. The contact stated that his vehicle is equipped with the Engine Off-On feature. The contact stated that the Off-On was also hesitating before he needed to place the vehicle into the park to restart. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that a software update needed to be performed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact manually turned the feature off to prevent the failure from recurring. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

MY GUAGE CONTROL WENT BLACK (It's the screen behind my steering wheel that tells me how many miles the car as, the odometer and speedometer (now don't know my speed!) and has maintenance info that is missing from my view now too! This is a serious safety issue! It also activates cruise control. They want to charge me $2K to replace it. The car is a 2020 with about 32K miles on it! And charged me a $180 diagnostic fee. Incidentally, the radio screen went black a few days later, but when I pressed the brightness button, it came back on. BTW, there is a little stick in front of the screen (maybe for the clock?) and it just spins and spins. Maybe that is simply broken and the brightness is turned down all the way? Though they stated the guage control needs to be replaced entirely. There is not a safety recall on this presently for my VIN and no software updates.

Oct 14, 2024

The navigation/ radio / rear view camera just resets multiple times while driving, sometimes it happens more frequently than other days. Message that comes up is: Network Communication Lost. Researched online and tried to resolve via software update but seems to made it worse. Reluctant to take to the dealer as warranty has expired and more importantly, blogs show that the issues have never been resolved even after dealer. Wiring harness replacement didn’t resolve.

After any kind of weather event that produces water (rain, morning dew, snow melt), the car battery is dead the next morning. It jump starts the following day and will be drive normal until it sits overnight and the dew settles back in. There has been evidence of water leakage from the rear cargo door and the power door does not function. The only way to open the door is by removing the plastic cover and utilizing the mechanical lever on the inside of the door. The problem is a daily occurrence with dew and other water events. We have not gone to any automated carwashes, strictly handwash the car. No warning lights have been produced.

WHEN I BOUGHT THE VAN USED IN 2023 AT A DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE WORKING ON THE TAILGATE OF THE VAN. THEY STATED IT WAS A FACTORY DEFAULT THAT THE MODULE HAD. THEY DID NOT GO INTO FURTHER DETAIL. I STARTED GETTING A MESSAGE ON THE DASH PANEL THAT THE POWER TAILGATE SYSTEM HAD A PROBLEM. i ALSO GOT MESSAGES STATING THE THEE REVERSE COLLISION SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING, TRANSMISSION SYSTEM HAD PROBLEMS, THE KEYLESS STARTING SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THIS WAS HAPPENING AFTER A RAIN OCCURANCE. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER, THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. i TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND WATER IS GETTING THRU THE ROOF RACK RAIL GULLEY, LEAKING DOWN THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR PANEL ON TO THE TAILGATE CONTROL MODULE. i HAVE TO TAKE THE VAN TO A BODY SHOP, SO THEY CAN FIX THE AFFECTED AREA. i HAVE THE PART MY MECHANIC REPLACED. IT IS CLEARLY WATER DAMAGED. THE DAY HE FIXED MY VAN, IT HAD RAINED AND MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN. RIGHT NOW I HAVE THE MODULE HANGING IN THE CARGO AREA, OUTSIDE OF THE INTERIOR PANEL, SO IT DOES NOT GET WET WHEN IT RAINS.

UNKNOWN. Auto engine idle stop was enabled when the vehicle was at a complete stop. Upon disengaging, the engine stalled and took a couple minutes to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was located in a highway that caused traffic delay and safety concerns. This has happened more than once.

This model has had a recall of the wire being to short and having faulty connections. I have replaced the wires module now 5 times . The last time it got replaced after a couple of months the screen on the car has gone blank and now they tell me the whole computer needs to be replaced. No LCD and no backup screen . This is absolutely ridiculous . Anything that can be done this car seems to be a electrical disaster.

My 2020 Honda Odyssey is exhibiting problems with the infotainment system. The system will reboot randomly, disabling all functionality of the rear back-up camera, the audio system, the clock, and all other associated features of the "infotainment" system. The screen will display "NETWORK CONNECTION LOST" and "MOST NET OFF" prior to unprompted reboot. System will reboot continuously following failure. Issue is ongoing for the past few months. This issue is the exact issue covered by the NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000. Possibly covered under 20V440000. Other 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicles are covered by this recall, however my VIN was not covered. I called Honda, and was not assisted in the slightest with the issue. I am requesting my VIN be added to the recall list, and/or Honda be penalized for improperly identifying vehicles with the affected issue. As it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, this vehicle fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

+ What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The front camera, which plays a crucial role in the functioning of the Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Avoidance system, and Auto High Beam, malfunctioned. This camera is integral to these systems. +How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The malfunction of the front camera caused critical systems like LKAS, ACC, Collision Avoidance, and Auto High Beam to operate unpredictably. This compromised vehicle control, leading to unintended lane departures, unsafe following distances, and potential collision risks. The Auto High Beam system also failed to adjust correctly, creating visibility hazards for both myself and other drivers. +Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue has been confirmed by a dealer, front camera malfunctioned and need to be replaced for $2000.

The multicamera display unit is defective. It operates several systems and cause multiple warning issues. I believe the design is flawed. In addition to the warnings, both the display for driving information ( speed, rpm, temp, etc.) go blank and the AV unit (radio, entertainment, etc) shuts off too.

Aug 17, 2024

On multiple occasions, after stopping the vehicle (for example at a red light), the engine would stop and not restart. After several minutes of frantically trying to restart the vehicle in dangerous situations (stopped in the middle of traffic and nearly rear ended multiple times), the vehicle would eventually start the engine. Bottom line - when stopping at a stop sign or red light, the vehicle turns off the engine and does not restart properly - placing all occupants in a dangerous situation.

Aug 14, 2024

Started the vehicle on 7/3. Multiple warning lights show on my dashboard: 1. ACC problem 2. Collision Mitigation Problem 3. LKA Problem 4. Auto High Beam Problem I took it to Purrfect Auto (as I had just had work done). They claim it is a software issue (per Honda) and did a reset of the dashboard (I was not charged for this). Problem was fixed. Later that day when I started the car, the warning lights came back. About 4 out of 5 times I start the car, the warning lights return. I had a long road trip (8-hours) a week later. So when I started the car and the warning lights came back, I would turn off the car and open and close the door (to turn off the computer). After I turned off and on the car 3 or 4 more times, the warning lights weren't on, so we started our road trip. This is a safety issue because I am now used to 4 years of Lane Keeping Assistance and Collision Mitigation. For the first time in 4 years, I experienced *3* near collisions with other vehicles due to the failure of these systems. This issue was inspected by the mechanics at Purrfect Auto. There were no other warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to this failure.

The rear lift gate fails to hold in the up position, the powered lift gate subsequently and randomly closes on its own without any driver intervention. The powered lift gate closed on me while I was retrieving groceries, almost crushing me had I not forced it back up by force. This has happened multiple times and could be lethal to a child or even an adult. The vehicle only has 39,xxx miles and has been used lightly as a family vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection by NHTSA officials. Additionally, I have seen other vehicles with the same problem video taped on YouTube. Such links can be provided to investigators. Honda should recall these vehicles and disable the automatic closing of the lift gate that is occurring without any driver intervention. It is beyond reasonable to assume this fault can be lethal or cause serious bodily injury.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to display any information and the rear-view camera failed to display an image. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the gauge control unit. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000 (Back Over Prevention, Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Three times now our 2020 Honda Odyssey's entire instrument and infotainment system has gone out - both screens at the same time just don't turn on. Which means we have no MPH gauge or back up camera. It is extremely unsafe to drive without a speedometer and we paid extra to get a van with a backup camera and now we don't even have that. We've taken it to Honda and are getting charged to replace the entire system, even though it is clearly a connection issue (since it turns back on by itself). On the exact same vehicle, the entire right rear shock is completely blown out and needs replaced. Both happened with no warning. Honda is not helping on a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it.

Power tailgate module exposed to water due to manufacturer defect in sealing above module. causing various electrical systems to fail including safety features. I do have the damaged module. Tailgate opened and wouldn’t close, when car in motion. Unable to use vehicle, the amount of electric items, due to fear brakes or transmission would fail while driving minivan full of young children Vehicle had warning light shortly after heavy rain. Was intermittent.

Auto idle stop. When the auto idle stop is on, when the vehicle is stopped at a light or due to traffic the vehicle while in drive will completely turn off. Unable to hit the accelerator to move as designed. We have to restart the vehicle and sometimes it takes multiple restarts. Extremely unsafe since we are unable to keep up with traffic. It has happened multiple times without warning. We have to make sure make a point to keep the auto idle engine turned off, but when you turn the car on it is automatically turned on. Called Honda, no recalls on this issue.

Apr 9, 2024

We bought a used 2020 Honda Odyssey, and a few months after buying this vehicle, the infotainment screen blanked out and the vehicle information screen also blinked out. This occurred at the same time with no warning whatsoever. I just turned on the car, and none of the screens came on. These screens are the ones that show the mph, our mileage, cruise control, etc, and also the screen that shows the back up camera, in car calling, back up alert system. None of that works anymore. We made an appointment to take it to a Honda dealership and a few days later it flickered back on and so we did not keep the appointment. Just a month and a half later, it happened again and this time it has not come back on for over a month. We took it to the dealership and were charged $200 for them to tell us it was something wrong with the Honda computer system and the whole thing would need replaced and we would be charged $1800. This is on a barely 4-year-old vehicle & we did not have the money to replace a defective system. So we have been driving without a mph display. We put our phones up on the dashboard and try a GPS MPH app, but it is wildly inaccurate, and it is a major safety concern because we have no idea what speed we’re going and we have to guess. This is a car with low mileage and barely 4 years old!! We paid a lot of money for the back up camera, in car calling, and extra features like that specifically for the safety of those features. And now we’re being told that basically they can’t find the problem and we have to pay $1800 for those rather high-priority safety features like knowing how fast you’re going. I also have a newly licensed teenage driver and another who will get her temps in 2 months. I can’t even let them drive our vehicle because they certainly don’t have the experience necessary to drive with no speedometer. We live in a state that doesn’t allow handling a phone in any way. This vehicle helped me comply with that & now I must use a phone to show my mph

When trying to close Rear sliding doors it just beeps once it gets half way closed then it gos back open and it won’t close unless you turn off automatic mode to manual and you have to physically Very hard to close them and they are very hard to open like very hard to open and close so if you don’t have the strength and it happens to you your screwed or stranded with your little kids and specially if you don’t live in a great neighborhood that can be very scary and from what I’ve researched online that on the Honda odyssey it is a very common issue and Honda just wants you to spend 1500$ to fix it and from what I’ve seen it’s either the cable or the motor or the rollers apparently it’s very common for the motor and the cables to die and break and if you call the Honda dealer, they know exactly what the issue is that’s how common it is. I definitely believe it should be recall. And I believe in my opinion, that’s a major safety issue

Jan 21, 2024

The heads up unit, navigation and audio system completely shut down after Network connection lost message. This started happening after recall of a cable, before it was fine, same cable was replaced under warranty a year ago. The problem is reproducible, simply driving vehicle and hitting a bump on passenger/right side cases the system to malfunction, disconnect audio, and eventually whole system shutdown and restart. I will take this back to the dealership but electronics in Honda Odyssey has been unreliable and feels like a safety risk.

Idle stop caused engine to stall 3 separate times leaving me stranded in busy intersections making it difficult to restart vehicle and move safely out of the way. Initial start up checks come on, asked to put car in park, step on brake to restart car, car won’t restart. Vehicle driver side sliding door has issues closing. Mentioned to dealer, but dealer dismisses it as possibly from water residue after car washes. Door needs to be manually closed with pressure to latch. Vehicle has lost all electrical function while in Economy mode while in idle mode while at red lights and also while parked with accessories running. Vehicle batter life was verified and in excellent condition at battery replacement shop.

Sep 12, 2023

I have had 2 major issues, the idle stop feature has multiple times caused my car to stall. It has even happened on the highway during traffic where the car went into idle-stop mode and would not restart the engine. Last week it happened again on a major road and the only way to restart the car is shift to park in the middle of a busy 4 lane road, turn off the car completely and then attempt a restart. The other issue was with the rear sliding door, my 3 year old son closed the automatic sliding door by pressing the button and his hand was crushed/ stuck until I was able to reopen it. I have called Honda who told me I could have it looked at but it would cost me for the diagnostic and repair if needed due to the fact that it was one month past their 3 year warranty period.

At a stop light the engine idle shutoff feature shut off the engine. Then a few moments later the entire vehicle shut off. I could not turn the vehicle back on after trying several times to do so. After about five attempts the vehicle turned back on in park gear. During this time the light turned green and the vehicle would not turn on, cars behind began honking. This has happened a few times since owning the vehicle. I was dead in the middle of a busy intersection. I have asked the dealer to look at the electrical system as there have been several anomalies but it checks out fine. I replaced the battery thinking that might be the problem but did not work. I believe it is the same problem as PE22005

Aug 17, 2023

On at least 5 occasions the car has not restarted after going into auto idle while stopped. Normally after pressing the brake pedal all the way down while stopped, the engine will shut off and then restart after releasing pressure from the brake pedal. When it doesn't restart, all the lights on the dashboard come on and you can't do anything. It won't restart if your press the start button and you can't shift it to neutral to push it out of the road. Eventually it will restart by pressing the start button. I have not had this problem if I turn off the auto idle, however you have to manually turn off the auto idle every time you restart the car.

1)The back hatch will randomly close. The first time it happened I didn’t know what was going on and it hit me in the head. Today my kids were there and it almost hit them but I pushed them out of the way because I knew what was happening as it makes a certain noise first. 2)It stalls out randomly at red lights. 3) the doors won’t open or close at times. 4) the dvd player gets so hot it almost burns you and the dvd player won’t work. When I contact the dealer they say they can’t do anything since it happens randomly and it if doesn’t happen when it’s at the dealership they don’t know what to do so they don’t even make an appointment. Two years ago we complained that the door didn’t have a sensor because it shut my two year olds hand in the door. Honda acted like we were crazy. Then it became a recall and they ‘fixed’ them. But now they won’t open or close.

Front windshield camera, controls adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure mitigation, front collision mitigation, auto high beam, all the lights came on and all the features stopped working. We were 1500 miles from home when this happened had it repaired at a dealership $1300. I called Honda corporate and after 2 days a customer service representative called me back. He told me the vehicle was 2500 miles out of warranty and it's a car and cars are going to break down. That I should drive it back home and have the dealership repair it and they might be able to help with some kind of reimbursement. I did not want to drive it that far without all the systems functioning so he said well that's on me.

Vehicle’s “Engine Idle Stop” feature malfunctions unless it is turned off manually. This is an energy conservation feature which turns off the engine when stopped. However, when lifting the brake, the engine does not turn back on at times, sometimes fully stalling the vehicle. At times, numerous lights have come onto the dashboard after this happens. At other times, the vehicle has completely turned off, leaving the safety of the driver and passengers at risk, particularly at stop lights, stop signs, and when in stop and go traffic. I’m continually worried someone is going to rear-end us when they see our brake light go off at an intersection. Vehicle has been brought to Honda dealership who stated they did not know the cause and replaced the battery. Problem was not solved and continues to happen.

Jun 19, 2023

There is a distracting static coming out of the speakers. sounds like popping and crackling.

May 23, 2023

The vehicle is currenting having an issue with the MOST feature which is causing a static sound coming from the speakers as well as the DVD/CD player not working at all. Once in a while when idling with brake on the vehicle will shut and down and restart on its on quickly. When this happens multiple warnings will appear on the dashes warning system. Some of these warnings are mitigation collision warning, cruise control, and low power.

May 15, 2023

Car was stopped in traffic and has a feature that shuts off the engine when stopped (in Drive but with brakes pressed). When trying to proceed forward car shuts down with numerous errors and does not start back up for 5 minutes. Cars are honking and having to drive around us. Eventually was able to get the car running and moved to a safe area. Errors car displayed included: blind spot info system problem and transmission problem

Apr 9, 2023

Auto shutoff feature regularly fails when attempting to restart the engine. It may delay the restart or put the car in park and not allow it to restart for over 30 seconds. I was stuck in stop and go rush hour traffic. The engine would not restart, leaving the car stranded in the center lane for over a minute while attempting to get the car to start and in drive.

Mar 27, 2023

Auto engine idle shut off issue and yes it is available for inspection. Upon exiting stop/start events(auto shut off at stop signs/lights/parking lots), engine does not restart. instead, it shifts into park, lights up all instruments on display panel, and requires a manual restart. vehicle is dead until restarted, posing a hazard to occupants/oncoming traffic. This has happened to me 3 times over the last two weeks. Didn't document date of 1st incident. 2nd incident was 3/22/23. 3rd incident was 3/25/2023. Immediately taken to dealer service center for repair. Dealer told us they couldn’t replicate the issue, that there are no codes, and no service advisories. We were told there was nothing they could do and to just turn off the feature when driving. The only one to inspect the vehicle was the dealer service center. No warning at all. Car just doesn't start and driver is left sitting and helpless in active traffic until the car can be restarted.

Mar 10, 2023

On 18 January 2023 the tailgate on our 2020 Odyssey refused to open. Neither the inside switch nor the outside switch does anything. I crawled in the back and checked the fuses and both are good. I also discovered that the emergency tailgate release did not function. Took it to the dealer, Greenway Honda in Florence, Alabama, an hour from home, and they weren't able to find the fault with a cursory check and a reboot of whatever computer system is applicable. They said they need to keep it for at least a half day and "really tear into it." But we could not leave the vehicle at that time, having no transportation home. Eventual diagnosis determined the tailgate control module, the tailgate closure motor, and the tailgate latch had all failed. Parts were on backorder and no estimate on availability. After I contacted Honda corporate the parts suddenly became available at the dealership within a few days. Repairs were effected on 27 February at Greenway Honda, Florence, Alabama. We were without the full use of our vehicle for approximately six weeks. Occupants could become trapped in the vehicle if the front doors were disabled in a collision and electrical power was lost, rendering the sliding doors and the tailgate inoperative. The emergency release lever also would not function and this could trap occupants completely. Examination of the tailgate electronic control module shows water infiltration which conceivably shorted the closure motor and jammed the latch, making it impossible to open the tailgate. Photos of the failed electronic module were provided to the dealership and to Honda corporate. The failed parts are in my possession and are available for inspection.

The speakers of our Odyssey crackle and pop despite completing the recall (MOST bus connectors) recommended by Honda. It has progressed to affect the entire infotainment unit. The unit shutdowns repeatedly while driving which means that the backup camera fails, as well as any navigation one is using while traveling. The hands-free phone features are also affected as one cannot connect their phone to the car. We've attempted repairs at the Honda dealership but they have been unable to provide a permanent fix. Each time they try to replace a connector or un-kink a wire, the problem returns within days. Most recently, the battery died and the car was unable to start due to the constant restarting of the infotainment center.

Dec 27, 2022

Not sure about which component failed and put my family and I in significant danger. We had just come to a stop at a traffic light at the end of a highway exit ramp when the car shut off without warning. Completely off. Hazard lights didn’t even work. Nothing worked. Took a minute or two until the vehicle restarted as if nothing had happened. Cars were coming up fast behind us and had to move quickly to get around us. This was late at night so we were hard to spot without any working lights. Thank the Lord no one was injured. I suspect it has something to do with the idle-stop feature. This incident happened within the last 2 hours so it hasn’t been reproduced or confirmed by a service center. Please require Honda into issue a recall for whatever caused this defect.

Infotainment system stopped working while car was on. It just shut off with no warning. I had no backup camera, phone, USB, radio. This drained my battery and caused my van to not start. I was stranded with my children and had to call a tow. Moments prior to the battery dying, the lights on the dash were flashing, my tail lights were on and flashing and would not shut off. Towed to the dealer and battery was charged and everything is working.

The signal turned Red, as I was braking, the car engine stuttered and car shut off. Startled, push the park button, and pressed the engine start button but no response, pressed again and it started. This happened 6 months before but didn't report it as I thought it was a once off event. 6 months ago, the car was at a red light, the IDLE was ON and when I accelerated cause the light changed GREEN, the car shut off. Get the feeling its due to the IDLE but wanted to report this matter

The “auto engine idle stop” system in my minivan is malfunctioning. This is a safety issue because the engine does not always restart when I take my foot off the brake. I am eventually going to be hit from behind by a driver behind me that assumes my minivan will accelerate from a stop when it is supposed to. Every time the malfunction occurs, the dashboard displays a message “Collision Mitigation System Problem”. However, I have been told by the dealership mechanics that this message is erroneous and that it is displaying because there isn’t a preset error message associated with the auto-engine idle stop malfunction. My minivan was 2 years old when I brought it to the dealership for repair the first time. That was in October-2021 and the dealership is Honda on Grand in Elmhurst, Illinois. I brought the vehicle to them on seven different occasions between October-2021 and now. Even though they were able to reproduce the problem, they say they don’t know how to fix it. So, they made minor repairs each time to different electrical and drive train systems in hopes that the malfunction will cease. After 10 months and 7 attempted repairs, my vehicle is still malfunctioning. The dealership instructed me to contact the corporate level Honda Customer Service Department, which I did on July 8, 2022. I was issued a case number and a customer service representative, Walter, to assist in resolving this problem. After many follow-up phone calls to them, they will not return my call to discuss my vehicle. I recently contacted the Elmhurst, IL dealership and spoke with the service manager, David Abraham, who said he would follow up with Walter. However, I still have not been contacted. I am very concerned for my safety and the safety of my two teenage children who are now driving my vehicle. This will undoubtedly lead to a collision if not repaired.

I became aware of a news article and videos of a documented security problem with Hondas where someone can use a device to unlock any Honda made in last 10 years and also remotely start the vehicle without leaving any trace of the intrusion. This poses many obvious security and safety risks to a Honda vehicle owner. Example, someone could gain access to a locked vehicle and steal contents. Or they could enter and hide in the back and attack someone. Or they could unlock the car and use the built in garage door opener to gain access to a home. Or they could even start a car remotely in a garage and cause a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning to people inside the home if the garage door remained closed. I am seeking help to get Honda to address this issue immediately and provide remedy to owners for this defect. https://gizmodo.com/new-key-fob-hack-can-unlock-and-start-hondas-remotely-1849165737

Non-working touchscreen monitor (navigation, radio, heat/ac adjustments, everything on screen off and won’t turn on. The usb outlets, backup camera, rear tv are also all non-working. Issue with doors, van beeps twice when walking away from vehicle, like one is not shut properly even after you open and shut all doors again. Also rear sliding doors don’t shut sometimes and act like there is something in the way of it closing and reopening. Available anytime on Friday for inspection. Safety issue only with backup camera. Prefer the convenience of having one to see behind me better. Mirrors ok but camera better. Problem was fixed twice at Honda dealership in Jonesboro Ar. They said it was a recall. The solution to the recall only fixed it temporarily though. The same above issues continue to reoccur even after repair. Scheduled and went into Honda for the third time for the same issue and the dealership sent me away. This time they said they wouldn’t be able to fix again until someone (an engineer) from corporate could come out and look at my car. This hasn’t occurred and it’s been over two months. They said they have a new service manager and they are looking into it. I’ve called a number of times and I am just told their new and their trying to figure out who to contact. Issues started out with popping and crackling noise in speakers. Then the touchscreen monitor would say no audio connection. The rear tv would go on and off too. Then the touchscreen just died and nothing works now. It doesn’t even turn on. Just black screen. So I have a non-working touchscreen, navigation, radio, back up camera, heat/air adjustments, all components on the touchscreen are non-working. USB ports are non-working. Rear tv is non-working.

While driving at approximately 40 mph with the lane keeping assist feature turned on, I attempted to turn on the cruise control. The cruise turned on, but the center instrument panel did not report that cruise was on, nor the speed at which cruise was set. Using the steering wheel controls to increase the speed or decrease the speed did not update the instrument panel. The speed stayed locked at 4:00pm with the cruise control indicator off. The instrument panel with the speed, etc locked up. Several moments later the entire panel went back and remained black for a short period of time. I had no speedometer nor other critical instruments available on my instrument panel. About 10 seconds later or so, the panel came back on and acted normal. It showed cruise was in fact on and set to 43. I promptly turned off cruise control and left it off

I WAS TRYING TO COME TO A STOP AND MY CAR WOULDN'T STOP. THE CAR WAS SHAKING AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THANKFULLY THERE WASN'T A CAR TO THE RIGHT OF ME SO I SWERVED AND PULLED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. THERE WAS A LIGHT ON THAT SAID BRAKE SYSTEM IN ORANGE. THANK GOD MY TWINS WERE NOT WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT'S A 2020 HONDA ODESSEY WITH LESS THAN 8000 MILES. I BOUGHT I BRAND NEW! I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING TO FIX. THEY DID KEEP IT ANOTHER 24 HOURS TO DRIVE IT AROUND SOME MORE TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I'M WORRIED SICK TO DRIVE THIS AGAIN WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT! WHAT IF NEXT TIME I AM NOT SO LUCKY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT?!? I SAW OTHERS POST THE SAME THING ON THIS EXACT VEHICLE.

NEW CAR- PURCHASED IN OCT 2020 HAS HAD PERSISTENT ISSUES WITH THE INFOTAINMENT/CAMERA UNIT REPEATEDLY GOING BLACK AND REBOOTING. SOMETIMES OFF FOR UP TO 20 MINUTES WITHOUT ACCESS TO BACKUP CAMERA (I LIVE ON A BUSY STREET ACROSS FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL) OR GPS. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE DAY I DROVE IT HOME FROM THE DEALER AND HAS HAPPENED SINCE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SERVICE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IN INCLUDING REPLACING THE INFOTAINMENT UNIT AND THE ISSUE CONTINUES. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MORE THAN 20 MINUTES IT STARTS REBOOTING EVERY 15 MINUTES OR SO. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

DEFECTIVE 2020 HONDA ODYSSEY RECEIVED BRAND NEW JUNE 9. BEGAN HAVING ISSUES IN 2 MONTHS. SERVICED AT BAYTOWN, TX COMMUNITY HONDA ON 9/11, 9/24,9/17,10/16 FOR OCCURRING ISSUE. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. VIDEO DOCUMENTATION WITH TIME STAMP OF ISSUE IS SAVED. CASE OPEN WITH AMERICA HONDA: CASE MANAGER, ANTONIO DETERMINED THE HONDA TECHS AT THE DEALER ARE INCORRECTLY FIXING THE VAN. THE FAKRA CONNECTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HE WILL SUBMIT REQUEST TO FIELD MANAGER TEAM FOR A FIELD ENGINEER TO BE SCHEDULED TO SERVICE MY VAN. ANTONIO, CASE MANAGER, ALSO ADVISED TO CANCEL 11/19 APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TO WAIT FOR CALL BACK FOR HONDA FIELD ENGINEER. COSTUMER REQUESTED ETA, ANTONIO WOULD NOT PROVIDE ESTIMATED TIME, ADVISE TO WAIT FOR A CALL. POPPING NOISE, DISCONNECTS BLUETOOTH. POPPING NOISE OCCURS WHEN DRIVER IS ON A CALL, LISTENING TO MUSIC, AND EVEN DURING COMPLETE SILENCE THERE IS POPPING. ELECTRICAL ISSUE OCCURS DURING STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY, HIGHWAY, AND TURNING. THE PROBLEM IS UNSAFE BECAUSE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHICH PREVENTS ME TO SAFELY USE HAND FREE CALLING. THIS IS ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. THE HONDA ODYSSEY 2020 CURRENTLY HAS 7298 MILES.

PURCHASED BRAND NEW MARCH 2020. EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH RADIO STATIC, POPPING NOISES FROM SPEAKERS, RADIO NOT FOUND ERROR MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING. RADIO STILL RUNNING AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF AND DOORS ARE OPENED. WE HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND OFF AGAIN TO GET THE RADIO TO SHUT OFF. ISSUES WORSENED AFTER RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED.

WE BOUGH THE VEHICLE NEW, AND IT WAS FINE FOR THE FIRST 1800 MILES. THEN, THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM STARTED RANDOMLY POWERING DOWN, USUALLY FIRST DISPLAYING A MESSAGE "NETWORK COMMUNICATION LOST". SOMETIMES IT WILL COME BACK ON, SOMETIMES IT CANNOT BE RESTARTED FOR DAYS AT A TIME. (WHEN IT DOES COME BACK ON, THERE USUALLY IS A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE SPEAKERS). THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM, IRREGARDLESS IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR NOT. BESIDES FOR NOT HAVING THE ABILITY TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE DRIVING, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK EITHER. SO, YOU HAVE A LARGE VEHICLE (I.E. A MINIVAN) WITH MINIMAL REAR VISIBILITY, WHICH IS USUALLY USED AROUND CHILDREN, AND YOU HAVE NO WAY OF SEEING WHAT'S BEHIND YOU. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. I SPOKE TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY ALSO SAID THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. THIS IS LITERALLY A DEAD CHILD WAITING TO HAPPEN.

WE JUST BOUGHT OUR VAN 20 DAYS AGO, THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM IS FAILING. IT INTERMITTENTLY SHUTS DOWN WHEN PARKED AND WHILE DRIVING. THE RADIO CRACKLES, OUR MODEL HAS A DVD PLAYER THAT SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK, BACK UP CAMERA SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK, BLUETOOTH SHUTS OFF DURING A CALL. SCREEN SHOWS CONNECTION LOST AND REBOOTS WHILE DRIVING. WE WAITED TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF OUR VAN DUE TO A RECALL THAT THEY WAS RELATED TO THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM, I GUESS THEY DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM.

I WAS SOLD A CAR WITH AN ACTIVE RECALL, THAT CAME OUT ON 7/28. I PURCHASED THE CAR ON 8/13 AND HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THE RECALL... I AM EXTREMELY UPSET THAT I WAS SOLD AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND FOR A RECALL THAT COULD AFFECT THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE AND CHILDREN

Aug 18, 2020

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATES AND LOCAL ROADS, THE ONBOARD "INFOTAINMENT" SYSTEM CONTINUALLY EMITS LOUD POPPING, CRACKLING SOUND (SOUNDS LIKE THINGS HITTING WINDSHIELD), RESULTING IN DISTRACTION AND CONFUSION WHILE DRIVING. VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM RANDOMLY GO OUT, CAUSING SYSTEM REBOOTS WHILE DRIVING AND CREATING DISTRACTION. NAVIGATION SYSTEM IS ALSO SOMETIMES AFFECTED, FAILING TO PROVIDE TURN GUIDANCE OR GIVE ACCURATE LOCATION. REAR "CABIN VIEW" FREEZES INTERMITTENTLY, DISPLAYING ONLY STILL IMAGE RATHER THAN VIEW OF REAR SEATS. FM RADIO RANDOMLY CUTS OUT, DISPLAYING "NO AUDIO CONNECTION FOR FM".

Mileage: 7,000

Aug 5, 2020

MY VEHICLE'S INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM CONTINUALLY TURNS OFF. THE SCREEN GOES BLANK FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, THE SYSTEM WILL RESTART MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING, AND IT WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED MULTIPLE TIMES AND NOTHING HELPS. I FEEL THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WHEN THE INFOTAINMENT CONSOLE CONTROLS SO MUCH OF THE VEHICLE. THE BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO ARE DISABLED WHEN I DRIVE AND HAVE ISSUES.

Mileage: 3,000

Jul 9, 2020

I PURCHASED AN ODYSSEY AND WITHIN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM STARTED DISPLAYING PROBLEMS. THE SYSTEM GIVES A LOUD, CRACKLING NOISE OVER THE SPEAKERS. SOMETIMES THE AUDIO CONNECTION WILL CUT OUT WITH VARYING ERROR MESSAGES. OTHER TIMES THE ENTIRE SCREEN WILL GO BLACK/TURN OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, COMPLETING DISABLING THE BACKUP CAMERA AND OTHER FUNCTIONS. WHEN THE AUDIO GOES OUT IT WILL ALSO HANG UP/DISABLE ANY GOES GOING OVER ANDROID AUTO OR BLUETOOTH. THE AUDIO DISPLAY SCREEN FOR ANDROID AUTO WILL SOMETIMES FREEZE. I'VE ALREADY HAD MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM WITHIN A MONTH AND A WEEK OF OWNING THE CAR AND THERE'S BEEN NO RESOLUTION YET. I'VE SEEN THAT THERE'S A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN THE 2018 AND 2019 MODELS, WHICH APPARENTLY DID NOT GET RECTIFIED FOR 2020. THE PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY AND SPORADICALLY, BUT DOES OCCUR ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER. IT'S EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND NOT SAFE.

Mileage: 400

Jul 9, 2020

THE CAR IS MAKING A CRACKLING NOISE FROM THE DASH BROAD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE LATTER STATED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THAT THE CRACKLING/SPARKLING NOISE COME FROM THE SPEAKERS. HE FURTHER STATED THAT HONDA IS WORKING WITH NHTSP ON A FIX. THE NOISE ACCENTUATES WHEN THE DRIVER STEPS ON THE BRAKES, BUT ALSO WHEN S/HE SPEEDS UP.

HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE ODYSSEY SHORTLY AFTER CROSSING 2K MILES. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START RELIABLY. CALLED HONDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE MULTIPLE TIMES TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO PREFORM NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:20V-066 ON FRIDAY MARCH 27TH AND HAVE THEM INSPECT THE ISSUE STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY WAS CHARGED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND ON SATURDAY MARCH 28TH THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO NOT START. WHEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SHOWED UP ON SATURDAY, THE BATTERY WAS CHECKED AND IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE.THE VEHICLE WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY.

Nov 29, 2019

FREQUENT LOUD CRACKLING NOISES COME FROM THE SPEAKERS, FOLLOWED BY A NETWORK CONNECTION LOST ERROR MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN, AND THEN THE SCREEN WILL GO BLACK AND EVENTUALLY THE SYSTEM WILL REBOOT. THIS WILL HAPPEN REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING AND DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE STATE OR USE OF THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM (IT CAN BE OFF AND STILL HAPPEN). THERE SEEMS TO BE A CORRELATION WITH GOING OVER A BUMP, SUGGESTING A LOOSE CONNECTION SOMEWHERE. WHEN RESTARTING OR OFF, THE RADIO, CLIMATE CONTROLS AND THE BACKUP CAMERA ARE ALL UNAVAILABLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT DISTRACTS THE DRIVER AND ALSO PREVENTS USAGE OF THE BACKUP CAMERA. BEGAN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY AT AROUND 1500 MILES AND NOW AT ~1700 MILES IT HAPPENS ESSENTIALLY ALL THE TIME. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SOONEST POSSIBLE. MANY PEOPLE BUYING HONDA CARS AND NOT AWARE OF THESE ISSUES !!!
