My 2023 Honda Odyssey Elite has recurring, intermittent safety-related malfunctions across multiple systems. The most serious issues are: (1) door lock/unlock and rear door opening failures preventing emergency egress (children trapped), (2) intermittent “no-start/no-response” where push-button start does nothing (no click/no crank and sometimes no lights/electrical response), and (3) intermittent dashboard/instrument/electrical abnormalities while driving. I also previously experienced dangerous driver-assist behavior including unintended automatic braking and lane/steering behavior in construction zones. Door/egress: Rear doors sometimes will not open from inside or outside even when the vehicle audibly indicates it unlocked. I have video of my children unable to exit the back seat. This is an emergency egress hazard. No-start/no-response: Multiple events where the vehicle appears electrically dead and will not start, then after waiting ~10–30 minutes it starts without a jump. Stranding hazard. Recent examples: 12/31/2025 – doors would not open initially; after entry, no lights/electrical and start button produced zero response; after ~10–20 minutes it started. 01/05/2026 – while driving, dashboard/instrument display went off; buzzing noise believed HVAC related occurred. 01/05/2026 – after parking at Costco, vehicle again would not start (zero response); after ~30 minutes it started. 01/06/2026 – locking/unlocking malfunction again; rear doors would not open despite audible unlock (video). Repair history: Authorized Honda dealer (Bell Road Honda) previously stated “cannot reproduce,” replaced DVD/recall items and performed a “reset,” but did not diagnose root cause; problems returned worse. Honda Customer Service case opened. Injuries: Prior unintended automatic braking event (reported around 08/29/2023) caused injury (my legs hit dash; child had marks from car seat) and near rear-end collisions. Request: Investigate potential safety defects

Our auto idle randomly will shut the entire van off. Leaving us stranded without being able to go for 15-30 seconds until we can get It restarted. There has been no warnings or codes thrown Early on it has been unable to reproduce for them when at the dealership It has been to dealership numerous times because it’s a scary safety issue with cars usually behind us honking, yelling, and holding up a finger. They did try update some software the most recent time which was unsuccessful. Now they want to put a new starter and relay and engine valve adjustment. Leaving me with the bill for something that happened in warranty since they can’t replicate it within a few minutes

I was driving about 15 mph in my neighborhood when my passenger side mirror exploded and flew onto my passenger side door/window. It hit so hard that it left a scratch on the window and on the paint.
Not sure about what component could have triggered but I started seeing smoke and fire from the front hood. I managed to stop and exit the call to call emergency services. The fire aggravated that the whole car was burned. The dealer was notified as well as the Honda but yet to hear back. The claim is also filed with insurance company that they indicated to be getting custody of the vehicle to inspect.
Shortly after we passed 30,000 miles and our initial warranty expired, our passenger-side sliding door began having problems in which it would get stuck while opening. We would need to turn off the power to the door and manually pull the door shut. This began happening more often as the weather got colder in November to December 2024. At its peak this winter, it would happen multiple times per day, and the door was basically non-functional. We took it to the Honda dealership several times before they were able to determine that the problem was a faulty latch on the sliding door. We had this replaced on March 14, 2025. The door works fine now, but the weather has been warm. We worry that this will happen again to the new latch and to the driver's-side door.
Profuse amount of water intrusion and pooling of water in the rear of the vehicle near the tailgate of vehicle during rainstorm. Water not from above, ceiling not wet. Concerns about water causing rust, and electrical damage.
Sitting still at intersection of Florida Avenue by US Post Office back window just shattered. No object found inside car. No indication it was hit by anything. Just spontaneously shattered.
Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety concern with my 2023 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ). On [XXX], while driving at 45mph, the front and left side airbags deployed suddenly without any impact or collision. There were no other vehicles involved, and no visible damage to the car was apparent. The only indication was the "SRS Airbag Deployed" sign on the dashboard. Upon inspection by Honda of Leander, minor damage was found at the bottom of the vehicle. However, the insurance inspector (Brian, +1-832-418-4052) confirmed that this minor damage should not have caused the airbags to deploy. The airbags deployed without any impact, and only the side airbags were triggered, suggesting a malfunction similar to the recent recall affecting 2020-2022 Honda models [XXX] ). Honda has issued a recall for over 750,000 vehicles due to a defect in the front passenger seat weight sensor. This malfunction could cause the airbag to deploy unintentionally, even when there is no crash, posing a significant safety risk. The recall affects various models, including the Accord, Civic, CR-V, Pilot, and Odyssey from 2020-2022, as well as several Acura models. Given the potential safety risk this malfunction poses, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this specific incident and consider extending the recall to include 2023 Honda Odyssey models. While my family and I were fortunate to be unharmed, this issue presents a serious threat to others and has resulted in the vehicle being totaled, causing us significant financial loss. I respectfully request appropriate action be taken. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any further information, including photos and videos. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] , [XXX] Vehicle Information: 2023 Honda Odyssey, VIN: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was pulling into a parking spot with my foot on the brake. My 2023 Odyssey van accelerated instead of braking. There is also supposed to be an auto car warning & braking if you are about to hit a car in front of you. None of this happened! In fact, it crashed into the car in front of me. As soon as it started to accelerate, I released the brake and reapplied the brake as hard as I could. It still hit the car in front of me. It didn't look like there was any damage to their car, but I was very shaken up and now I am worried this will happen again. It happened today, April 18, 2024. My mother was in the car and was as shocked and stressed as I am as the van went from very slow to fast. My body is still shaking. I haven't had it inspected yet. I have an appointment on May 1, 2024, to go to Odonnell Honda. The woman receptionist in the service area said I may have had my foot on the gas. I did not because when I pull into a parking spot, I always have my foot on the brake and go in very slowly. As a brand-new van, I am very alarmed and very nervous it could happen again.
Mid November 2023, at 9 am, between Livermore and Pleasanton, California, USA, while driving my wife's 7000 miles Honda Odyssey Sport 2023 sunroof glass imploded. An extremely loud bang noise followed by a rain of micro crystals over my head, driver, passenger and back places. My right ear was numbed and when I could manage to stop, I got pinched by the micro crystals everywhere, while my sunroof pieces of glass kept falling over me. Immediately I filed a claim with NHTSA (which didn't received any email or case # after a long call explaining what happened); also visited the dealership who sent me home and had been giving me excuses during 3 months already. Supposedly the replacement part is not available and not covered by warranty. This is unacceptable for an international brand like Honda. I've owned Honda cars for years and my family too, never thought this could happen to me while driven our best Honda at home. A sunroof SHOULD be laminated NOT tempered-only, and Honda should address their sunroofs defects asap. This is such a risky situation and I know this had happened before to many persons driving Hondas and Acuras. Please DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW before somebody dies!
I always do a full undercarriage inspection of new vehicles we purchase, even though I am in my 60's. When inspecting this new Odyssey there was unusual amounts of rusting throughout both front wheel hubs. This also was a problem on our 2014 Honda Cr-V we also purchased new. They require a coating on them for brake and steering systems safety. When this rust spreads to brake and steering mechanisms mounted to these hubs....big issues.
My hand got burned getting a kids toy under the van. The muffler is unusually low and needs a vented shield to protect people from burns and cuts and to protect the muffler from debris and impacts from speed bumps, etc. This is dangerous for people, kids, and the engine.
