my frame was rusted throughout at 130k miles the car's rear trail arm mount on the frame detached and almost caused me to run into on by traffic numerous times at 25 mph. only once I stopped to pick up my sons from school the car's rear trail arm detached completely from the frame, I had deemed it undrivable and called for someone to come by and tow it back home. on my own further inspection, I noticed an absurd amount of rust in the rear left side, and holes in the frame. as well as I said the rear trail arm detached from the frame.

I NOTICED THAT MY 1999 HONDA PASSPORT HAD A RECALL FOR THE SUSPENSION. I CALLED THE DEALER HERE IN LEXINGTON KY DON JACOBS AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT I CALLED TO VERIFY THAT THEY HAD THE PARTS THAT WAS NEEDED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET THE PARTS OR TOOLS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE.

THE REAR TRAILING ARM HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM SEVERE FRAME RUST. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN 2010 BUT IT ONLY RECALLED CARS FROM THE NORTHEASTERN STATES. THIS CAR WAS NOT RECALLED EVEN THOUGH IT IS AND HAS BEEN IN ALASKA. I BELIEVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS HERE ARE JUST AS SEVERE AS THE NORTHEASTERN STATES AND THE RECALL SHOULD EXTEND HERE ALSO.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SWAYED TO THE RIGHT. THE BUMPER AND TRAILER HITCH BECAME DETACHED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SWAYING ABNORMALLY FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE AND BUMPER WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 10V436000 (SUSPENSION) AND 00V058000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MY LOCAL LAS VEGAS HONDA DEALERSHIP INSPECTED MY VEHICLE FOR A RECALL RELATED TO: THE FORWARD MOUNTING POINT BRACKET FOR THE LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP REPLACED NO PARTS, AND SIMPLY TREATED THE AREA WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND. THREE WEEKS LATER, MY AUTO MECHANIC TOLD ME THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR DRIVING DUE TO THE FRAME HAVING ROTTED AWAY ENTIRELY IN PLACES. HE WAS ABLE TO POKE HOLES IN THE REMAINING FRAME WITH HIS FINGER BECAUSE THE STEEL WAS RUSTED THROUGH SO BADLY. MY MECHANIC INDICATED THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE JUNKYARD IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CORROSION OF THE LOWER TRAILING LINK FRAME BRACKETS. THE RECALL WAS DONE ON 9/13/2011. WE TOOK THE SUV TO OUR MECHANIC TO HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED AND HE INFORMED US THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SPRING WAS GONE AND THE OTHER ONE WAS GOING DUE TO CORROSION. THE HONDA DEALER THAT DID THE RECALL NEVER INFORMED US OF THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH OUR MECHANIC SAID THEY SHOULD HAVE SPOTTED IT. APPROXIMATELY 15 MONTHS AGO WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS PUT ON THE LIFT TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND THEY POINTED OUT TO ME THAT THEY SAW RUST ON THE FRAME AND THEY FELT IT WAS PROBABLY UNSAFE AND TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX. WE THEN WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC SHOP TO CONFIRM THIS SINCE THE CAR HAD UP TO THAT POINT PASSED REGULAR STATE SAFETY INSPECTIONS AND HAD BEEN MAINTAINED. WE HAVE RECORDS TO PROVE THIS. THE SECOND MECHANIC MADE A REPAIR TO FIX THE ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM AND SAID HE ALSO SAW THE RUST BUT FELT IT COULD BE USED FOR LOCAL DRIVING. WE CONTACTED HONDA ABOUT THE RUST PROBLEM AND THEY DENIED ANY FAULT WITH THE PRODUCT. WE HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WERE MADE. THE RUST BECAME SO GREAT SO THAT THE SHOCK TOWER COMPLETELY TORE LOOSE FROM THE BODY, BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES. WE WERE THEN FORCED TO JUNK THE CAR AS OF OCTOBER 2010. HONDA WAITED TO COMMUNICATE WITH US ABOUT THE RECALL UNTIL DECEMBER 2010 EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS MANY MONTHS BEFORE. THEY SAY THAT BECAUSE WE NO LONGER OWN THE CAR WE ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANY COMPENSATION. WE TOLD THEM HAD WE BEEN INFORMED ABOUT THE RECALL WHEN THEY WERE WORKING ON THIS WE NEVER WOULD HAVE JUNKED THE CAR. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CAR WAS IN GOOD SHAPE. THE OUTSIDE BODY LOOKED LIKE NEW AND HAD THIS RUST NOT OCCURRED TO THE DEGREE IT DID WE WOULD STILL HAVE USE OF THE CAR .

I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS RELATED TO A DEFECTIVE 'FUEL SENDING UNIT'. IT AFFECTS HONDA PASSPORTS AND ISUZU RODEO VEHICLES . MY SUV HONDA PASSPORT FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING DUE TO BAD FLOAT CHAMBER ON THE PUMP COMPONENT HAS MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. MY FUEL GAUGE HAS STARTED FLUCTUATING WILDLY. THE MOST COMMON THING THOUGH, IS THAT IT READS OUT OF GAS SHORTLY AFTER A FILL UP. THIS IS THE SAME MODEL AS AN ISUZU RODEO AND THE PROBLEMS ARE DUPLICATED THERE. I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT AND EXTREMELY UPSET FOR I PUT ALL MY MONEY INTO THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE A RELIABLE TRUCK AT SCHOOL. NOW I AM UP A CREEK, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF LOSING 2 JOBS DUE TO THE FACT I HAVE NO TRUCK. MY 1999 HONDA PASSPORT WAS IN NEED OF A INSPECTION STICKER. I PROCEEDED TO THE SERVICE STATION FOR MY STICKER WHEN THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AND WAS DRAGGING ON THE ROAD. I RETURNED HOME AND INSPECTED THE FRAME WHICH WAS RUSTED AND FALLING APART. THE TOP COIL SPRING MOUNTS WERE PUSHED UP AGAINST THE BODY. THE REAR WHEEL STABILIZER HANGERS ARE READY TO LET GO. I CALLED REPAIR SHOPS AND WAS TOLD THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT REPAIRABLE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T WELD ON TOP OF RUST. MY HONDA NOW SITS IN MY YARD. DRIVING APPROX 45 MILES PER HR. PASSPORT SUDDENLY PULLED US INTO THE LEFT LANE. WE WERE ABLE TO GET BACK INTO CORRECT LANE AND PULL VEHICLE OVER. DROVE DIRECTLY TO OUR MECHANIC AT APPROX 20 MILES PER HR. FOR ABOUT 2 MILES. HE LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAID TRAILING HEAD WAS BROKE FROM FRAME AND FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN MY DRIVE UNABLE TO DRIVE. BOTH SIDES ARE BROKE AT TRAILING HEAD AND RUSTED SO BAD YOU CAN PUSH AND BREAK A HOLE IN THE FRAME. THE FRAME IS THE ONLY RUST ON THE VEHICLE. WE WERE LUCKY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING TOWARDS US AND THAT WE WERE NOT GOING VERY FAST. MY 1999 HONDA PASSPORT HAS A REAR STABILIZER BAR HOLDING THE WHEEL IN PLACE THAT IS WELDED ONTO THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER SAYS "ACCORDING TO OUR DEALER, THE CAR IS OK, SO YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY CASE. WE HAVE DONE ALL WE CAN." IT SEEMS TO ME LIKE THE CAR WOULD BE A DANGER TO DRIVE IN HAZARDOUS WINTER CONDITIONS IF IT SHIMMIES THIS BAD. THE CAR IS SO BAD THAT THE DEALERSHIP SALES MANAGER OFFERED ME TO "BUY IT BACK AS A LOW VALUE TRADE-IN CAR AS A FAVOR TO ME."
