TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING 5 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE SUSPENSION FRACTURED. SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND LATER NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HONDA OF FRONTENAC (885 S LINDBERGH BLVD, ST. LOUIS, MO 63131, (314) 994-1400), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MANGUEST HONDA (5935 S LINDBERGH BLVD, ST LOUIS, MO 63123, 314-649-1200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR 3 WEEKS. IT HAS DAMAGE RELATED TO AN ACTIVE RECALL. THE ENTIRE BACK PART OF THE FRAME IS RUSTED, TO THE POINT THERE IS NO 'MEAT' TO FIX THIS ISSUE. WE ARE NOW GETTING ZERO RESPONSE FROM HONDA OR THE DEALERSHIP, AND NEED ASSISTANCE IN A POSITIVE RESOLUTION. THE HONDA CASE # IS: 10V436000. THIS VEHICLE WHEN TOWED HAD TIRES SEPARATING FROM THE BODY, AND IS WAY BEYOND A PATCH-FIX. I FILLED UP THE TANK, APPARENTLY, THE WEIGHT CAUSED A SEPARATION IN THE FRAME. WHEN STATIONARY, A BACK TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ATTEMPTED TO LOAD THE VEHICLE. THE EXTENT OF FRAME DAMAGE RENDERS THIS UN-FIXABLE...BUT NOW OUR HONDA REP AND OUR DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER WILL NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS. PLEASE HELP!

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH AND SOMEONE PULLED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME REQUIRING ME TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I HEARD SOMETHING SNAP OR BREAK IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER, THE CAR SEEMED TO WIGGLE AND SWAY. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS I COULD, WITHIN A HALF BLOCK. I LOOKED FOR A FLAT TIRE, NOTHING SEEMED WRONG SO I TRIED TO DRIVE HOME. THERE WAS A HORRIBLE RUBBER SCRAPING SOUND FROM THE LEFT REAR. I GOT OUT AGAIN AND SAW THAT THE TIRE WAS WEDGED AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. I CALLED A WRECKER AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. AS SOON AS HE SAW IT THE MECHANIC CALLED ME AND SAID, "YOUR CAR IS TOTALED, THE FRAME IS ROTTED OUT." SO I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED BACK TO MY HOME. MY NEIGHBOR ALSO OWNS A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THE FRAME, SUSPENSION FOR MY MODEL AND YEAR. I FOUND THE RECALL #10V436000 AT HTTP://WWW.HONDAPROBLEMS.COM/RECALLS/PASSPORT/2000/ I CALLED HONDA ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 9 TO REPORT THAT I HAD NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND ASKED IF THEY COULD HELP ME. I HAD READ ABOUT A BUYOUT PROGRAM. THE REP SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS ONLY GOOD FOR TWO YEARS AND HAD EXPIRED, THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO TO HELP ME. THIS IS A SERIOUS PART OF THE CAR, HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE I COULD HAVE HAD A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. HONDA KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM, HOW CAN THEY LIMIT THE REPAIR TO TWO YEARS? I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION EVERYWHERE OTHER THAN THE REAR FRAME. I HAD NO IDEA HOW BAD THE RUST WAS UNDER THE VEHICLE IN THE REAR. I BOUGHT THE SUV 1 YEAR AGO IN AUGUST FOR $2700 WITH 121,000 MILES. I TOOK EXCELLENT CARE OF IT & ON 10/3/13 I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO A HIGHWAY WHICH WAS A 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT. AS I ACCELERATED MY FRONT END WOBBLED BACK & FORTH BAD AND AT 25 MPH MY SUV DARTED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD & I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES MISSING THE GUARD RAIL. BY 1 FOOT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME DUE TO MY DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE WAS PINCHEDINTO MY REAR BUMPER. MY BODY SHOP GUY SAID THE REAR TRAILING ARM RUSTED RIGHT OFF THE FRAME & ESD MOST LIKELY NOT FIXABLE UNLESS I WANT TO SPEND OVER $1500 TO HAVE THE FRAME CUT OUT & TRY TO FIND GOOD METAL TO WELD TOO IF THERE IS ANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT WOULD NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE BECAUSE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V436000 (SUSPENSION) WAS EXPIRED. THE UNDERSIDE FRAME OF MY 2000 HONDA PASSPORT IS SO RUSTED, A SWAY BAR CONNECTED TO THE AXLE BROKE FREE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY MECHANIC AND BY A HONDA DEALER THAT THE RUST IS SO BAD, THERE IS NOTHING TO ATTACH THE SWAY BAR TO. THE BAR ATTACHED TO THE FRAME (WHICH THIS SWAY BAR IS ATTACHED TO) WAS FIXED IN THE RECALL 1.5 YEARS AGO. IT IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE FRAME, SO HONDA WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE OR GIVE ME COMPENSATION FOR MY CAR. I BELIEVE IT IS ALL RELATED AND THE RECALL DID NOT WORK TO FIX THE SUSPENSION ISSUES. MY HONDA DEALER BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAD TO DEAL WITH CORPORATE AND TO COME PICK UP THE CAR. I WAS SHOCKED BY THIS AS THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN MY WIFE PRESSED THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE THEN SAID THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. AS FOR THE RECALL, MY HONDA DEALER WROTE DOWN THE WRONG VIN NUMBER ON MY INVOICE, SO THEY THOUGHT THE CAR WAS A 1999 PASSPORT. IF YOU READ THE RECALL, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE ON HOW THE DEALER SHOULD HANDLE A 10 YEAR OLD CAR VERSUS AN 11 YEAR OLD CAR. ACCORDING TO HONDA CORPORATE, THIS WOULD NOT ACTUALLY AFFECT HOW MY CAR WAS FIXED BY THE RECALL. BUT IT GETS BETTER. THE RECALL WORK WAS SUBBED OUT TO A 3RD PARTY FOR A STAGE 3 REPAIR. NO ONE AT CORPORATE OR THE DEALER WILL TELL ME IF THIS WAS AUTHORIZED BY CORPORATE, AS SOMEONE AT THE NHTSA TOLD ME WAS PROPER PROTOCOL. AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHEN THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE, TOLD ME HOW BAD THE UNDERSIDE OF MY CAR WAS. COULD THIS BE BECAUSE IF THEY DIDN'T DO THE RECALL WORK THEY DON'T GET PAID? THERE IS NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST HERE AT ALL. I TALKED WITH CORPORATE A WEEK AGO AND ASKED THEM TO HAVE THE HONDA CORPORATE DISTRICT MANAGER FOR MY DEALERSHIP CALL ME. HE HASN'T CALLED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON THE 5TH OF JULY 2013. TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND NOTICED A BADLY DEFECTIVE TIRE ON THE RIGHT REAR AND THAT THE BRAKES WERE HAVING ISSUES WHICH INCLUDED POOR STOPPING AND A VIBRATION IN THE BACK. I GOT DOWN ON MY HANDS AND KNEES TO LOOK AT THE TIRE AND THEN NOTICED LARGE ROTTED HOLES IN FRAME BY TIRES. I THEN LAID ON MY BACK AND NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS ROTTED OUT FROM FRONT TO BACK. THIS IS SO BAD THAT I CAN PUSH HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME WITH JUST MY FINGERS. I HAVE SINCE GOTTEN ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUED ON THIS VEHICLE FOR A CONTROL ARM BRACKET THAT BREAKS OFF OF THE FRAME DUE TO ROT. THIS ISSUE HAS FAR EXCEEDED THAT RECALL AND I AM WANTING TO KNOW WHAT WOULD BE MY BEST COURSE OF ACTION FROM HERE? I TOOK MY CAR TO A MECHANIC LAST WEEK BECAUSE I WAS HAVING TO PUT BRAKE FLUID IN IT. I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD A LEAK. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME BACK AND SAID I WOULDN'T DRIVE THAT CAR ANYMORE. IT HAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION UNDERNEATH. THE FRAME IS BROKE AT LEAST IN ONE SPOT AND THE BACK IS ABOUT TO BREAK INTO AND COME UP THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I HAVE TO DRIVE IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND. I KNOW THAT I LIVE IN A SOMEWHAT WINTRY AREA, BUT I AM FANATICAL ABOUT KEEPING MY CAR CLEANED. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 12 YEARS OLD. MY HUSBAND HAS A SUBARU THAT'S ALMOST 20 YEARS OLD AND HAS 272000 MILES ON IT. ITS NO WHERE NEAR RUSTED LIKE MINE. THE CORROSION AND RUST WAS CAUSING ALL FLUIDS TO LEAK FROM THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. FRAME ON VEHICLE WAS DEEMED "UNREPAIRABLE" BY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP, DUE TO RECALL ON VEHICLE. AFTER CONSULTING LEGAL ANGLE FOUND THAT THERE IS A 10 YEAR WINDOW ON CAR MAKERS BACKING THEIR PRODUCT. IRONIC THAT THE RECALL CAME OUT AFTER 10 YEARS, HONDA KNEW OF THIS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WAY BEFORE THE 10 YEAR WINDOW BUT DID NOTHING. THE FRAME ON THIS CAR LITERALLY WAS CLOSE TO COMPLETELY FLYING OFF, AND SOON THAT WILL CAUSE SEVERE INJURY NOT ONLY TO OWNERS OF THAT MODEL CAR BUT ALSO OTHERS INVOLVED. ON AUGUST 23, 2010 MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2000 HONDA PASSPORT ENTERING INTERSTATE 75 IN OHIO WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS ON SPINNING ON ICE. SHE THOUGHT THAT IT WAS GOING TO ROLL OVER BECAUSE IT WENT UP ON 2 WHEELS, LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET IT STOPPED BEFORE ANYTHING SERIOUS HAPPENED. AT THE TIME SHE WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR. HAD SHE BEEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THIS HAPPENED I AM AFRAID SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY. THERE WAS NO WARNING FOR I HAD JUST DRIVEN THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED JUST FINE. THE CAR IS IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME WHICH IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE STABILIZER BAR BROKE AWAY FROM THE FRAME DUE TO RUST. THE WHOLE FRAME IS RUSTED WITH HOLES THAT YOU CAN STICK YOUR FINGERS THROUGH. THIS CAR IS NOW JUNK. I AM VERY UPSET AT HONDA FOR NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND RECALLING THIS VEHICLE. MY DAUGHTER COULD HAVE DIED. WE NOW HAVE A PIECE OF JUNK SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY. *TR

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT WITH 85,000 MILES. I RECENTLY HAD A PENNSYLVANIA STATE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION PERFORMED AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS SO MUCH RUST DAMAGE TO THE FRAME THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. I TOOK THE HONDA TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. THEY WERE NOT INTERESTING IN WORKING ON THE VEHICLE BUT SUGGESTED I CALL THE HONDA HOTLINE NUMBER AND REFERRED ME TO THEIR WEB SITE. I SPOKE WITH "CHRISTINE" AT 800-999-1009. SHE INFORMED ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN. SHE SAID HONDA AMERICA DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER ABOUT THE ISSUE. SHE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT ALTHOUGH IT WAS LIKELY HONDA HAD MORE INFORMATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM SHE DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO IT NOR WOULD SHE GIVE ME ANY CONTACT INFORMATION FOR ANYONE WHO COULD PROVIDE IT. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND NEVER AROUND WATER. IT IS 10 YEARS OLD AND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IS EXPECTED BUT IT ALSO SEEMS REASONABLE TO EXPECT THAT THE FRAME OF SUCH A VEHICLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO STAY INTACT AND PERFORM SAFELY OVER THAT SPAN OF TIME. *TR

WE WERE FORCED TO GET RID OF OUR 2000 HONDA PASSPORT. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING, SLOWLY ON HER PERMIT, ALL OF A SUDDEN ...SNAP>>> SOMETHING UNDERNEATH BROKE AND JERKED US TO THE SIDE. WE PULLED INTO A WALGREENS AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. THE EXACT PART HI-LIGHTED IN JIM PARSONS REPORT WAS OUR TROUBLES. WE HAD RECENTLY PAID THIS VEHICLE OFF AND HAD NO INTENTIONS OF GETTING ANOTHER ONE. BECAUSE THE DAMAGE WOULD HAVE COST SO MUCH, WE OPTED TO GET A NEW (USED) AUTO AND START THE PAYMENTS CYCLE ONCE AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE SUSPENSION ARM IN THE REAR HAD FALLEN OFF BECAUSE THE FRAME HAD RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME HAD ROTTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS MECHANIC TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME HAD EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. THE FRAME WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STILL HAS POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS INOPERATIVE.
