The contact owned a 2006 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle rear-ended her vehicle, causing her vehicle to crash into another vehicle from the driver's side front door. The rear bumper and exhaust pipe detached. The driver's side air bag did not deploy. The contact sustained a back injury and received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. Prior to the failure, the dealer had previously performed a recall repair for the driver's and passenger's side air bags. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.

TAKATA INFLATORS: AFTER HITTING A ROADSIDE OBJECT AT A COUNTY ROAD TURNING INTO A COMMUNITY, THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. THAT CAN BE ACCEPTED, BUT THE AIRBAG WAS NOT INFLATED. I BURSTED, NOT BLOWED OUT SIMPLY WITH THE BAG ITSELF WITHOUT AIR. AFTER TALKING TO HONDA, THEY REPEAT THAT THE INFLATION PROCESS COME AND GO QUICKLY. I KNOW THAT IT COME AND GO QUICKLY. BUT I ALSO KNOW THAT IT WAS NOT INFLATED AT ALL. AS A SCIENTIST AND ENGINEER WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO EXPERIMENTS, WHO KNOWS WHAT CAN BE A HUMAN BIAS, WHO KNOWS THE SPEED OF HUMAN REACTIONS, THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS THAT I WAS SURE AND AM SURE, THE BAG WAS NOT INFLATED ENOUGH. I CANNOT TELL HOW MUCH IT WAS INFLATED, MY IMPRESSION WAS THAT IT WAS INFLATED SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 5-10 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL CAPACITY. THE VEHICLE WAS VIRTUALLY STOPPED WHEN THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. THE BAG DID NOT TOUCH ANY PART OF MY BODY BESIDES MY RIGHT ARM. MY BODY DID NOT MOVE FORWARD AT ALL AS THE SPEED OF AT HITTING WAS NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO MOVE MY BACK AWAY FROM THE SEAT. THE AIRBAG DID NOTHING BUT BURNING MY RIGHT ARM, CAUSING A SECOND DEGREE BURN. NOTE THAT, THE AIRBAG WAS SERVICED BECAUSE THE RECALL. IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL AIRBAG WHICH WAS RECALLED, IT IS THE NEW ONE. THE PROBLEM IS EITHER CAUSED BY THE PRODUCT ITSELF OR BY INSTALLATION. IN ANY CASES, IT IS A DEFECTED PRODUCT THAT DOES NOTHING WHEN DEPLOYED BUT HARM.

I WAS IN A FOUR CAR ACCIDENT IN 2016 (I BELIEVE, MAY HAVE BEEN LATE 2015) AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS 1 CAR IN FRONT THAT DIDN'T GET HIT BAD, BUT THE TWO VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD THEIR AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ABOUT TWO WEEKS FOR THE PART TO ARRIVE AND WOULD CALL WHEN IN. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS AND NO CALL, I CALLED THEM AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE STILL NOT IN. TO DATE, 10/2/2016 THE HAVE NOT CONTACTED ME WITH AN UPDATE. PER THE RECALL NOTICE, IT AFTER 60 DAYS THE RECALL IS NOT RESOLVED, CONTACT THE NHTSA, WHICH I'M DOING. RAKATA RECALL. I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA OF CHANTILLY FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG RECALL. THEY DID THE WORK AND GAVE ME MY CAR BACK. WHILE IT WAS IN THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY, AND I ASKED FOR THE OLD ONE BACK SO I COULD RETURN IT TO THE STORE WHERE I PURCHASED IT FOR A REFUND. WHEN I GOT BACK IN MY CAR TO LEAVE, THE OLD BATTERY WASN'T IN IT. I CHECKED AND THEY HADN'T REPLACED MY BATTERY. TURNS OUT THEY DID THE AIRBAG RECALL AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR. THEY HAD RECORDED THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED THE RECALL AND SENT ME ON MY WAY, AND IF I HADN'T ASKED FOR MY OLD BATTERY BACK NOBODY WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT I STILL HAD THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG IN MY VEHICLE. THEY DIDN'T CHECK THE VIN WHEN THEY DID THE WORK.

"TAKATA RECALL" AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, HONDA REPLACED THE PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG INFLATOR, AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THEY RESET THE CODES THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR 1 DAY. HONDA THEN DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH SHOWED THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG FAILED. HONDA SAID DUE TO AGE OF PILOT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE IT UNDER RECALL. AIRBAG LIGHT STILL IS ON WHICH DOESN'T ALLOW THE OTHER AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. HONDA TOLD US THE COST WOULD BE $638.18. DUE TO SAFETY FACTOR I FEEL HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THE AIRBAG FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO THE SAFETY FACTOR OF THE RIDERS IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE RIGHT NOW WE ARE NOT PROTECTED.

THE LETTER FROM HONDA SAID THAT A PASSENGER SHOULD NOT BE SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE PILOT. THE HONDA DEALER TOLD US NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND TO CHECK BACK IN 3-4 MONTHS. SO, I HAVE TO FIND A DIFFERENT WAY TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY FOR 3-4 MONTHS UNTIL MAYBE SOME PARTS ARE AVAILABLE?? I FIND THIS UNREASONABLE.

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, SUDDENLY THE WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT AND MY VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN GUARD RAIL THEN VEERED BACK ACROSS THE ROAD TO STOP ON AN EMBANKMENT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE FLIPPED NUMEROUS TIMES AND LANDED ON IT'S TOP DUE TO THE IMPACT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR.
