We had road issues recently and the care stalled on Thanksgiving. We ended up having it towed to 2 mechanics, the final mechanic determined that this issue is a recall for other Hondas. Ours is not listed. I called the recall hotline and they will not fix the car under the recall because they did not add our VIN number to the recall. They informed us we could pay for the repair and keep our receipt for reimbursement if/when the VIN number is added. I was not happy with this outcome as if it's a problem with other vehicles why are we not being added. The recall is "a manufacturing defect in the connecting rod bearing that could cause the engine to seize and fail, leading to stalling while driving."
UNKNOWN - The hydraulics of the power tailgate in the 2016 Honda Pilot are defective. After opening, it randomly starts 1 long continuous beep while the power tailgate closes - and it will not stop. I have had multiple items crushed. I have known other owners of the 2016 Honda Pilot where the hatch closed on them and trapped them in it. This is a huge safety issue! I am afraid when my teenage son opens the power tailgate that it will happen and trap him! It has happened since the purchase of the vehicle, which was brand new off the Honda dealer lot, in 2016. Honda dealer blew me off multiple times. They cannot "recreate" the issue - but it is random, however it does seem to happen more often once the air temperature is below 40 degrees.
Transmission slipping and motor making a grind sound since like 120k and dash problems and paint chips every were paint is coming off on its own. I did not about that i can do a complete here.
paint chips all over pealing
Engine developed noises while driving and seized up. Prior to engine seizure, auto start/stop was having issues where it would not restart after stopping at a light or stop sign. Rear unibody rusting really badly due to cheap quality metal?
My 2016 Honda pilot has continued to have engine restart issues with the automatic engine stop feature after taking it in for the initial recall. Upon telling this to the dealer, they said the recall work was already done and won’t address it further. They only did the software upgrade and did not tell me about the 2nd stage of repairs available. The issue is random but happens commonly, and seems to be worse on hot days. It also can sometimes struggle to restart after putting it in park after the auto restart fails.
There was a small ticking/knocking noise that started the week before I took my Honda Pilot in to the dealer. I took the car in for regular service and told them about this noise. Under further inspection, I was advised by the Honda dealership that the piston connecting rod bearing had failed causing damage to the motor. I had to pay to replace the motor at my own expense. This is a safety issue as I did not really have a warning that anything was wrong with the vehicle and the engine could have seized up and caught fire while I was driving putting my family and other vehicles in harms way. It is my understanding that Honda had a partial recall on this issue in which my VIN was not covered. I was not notified that this was even an issue for the 2016 Honda Pilots and I should have been notified and and this should have been fixed before it occurred. The dealer reached out to Honda Corporate to request coverage of this cost and they denied it even though this is a known issue with this motor.
2017: transmission replacement UW 2021: Vehicle stopped/ lost power on I44 at a speed of 70 mph. I immediately pulled over and called Roper on a recorded line per roper Honda. Took it to roper- needs a new motor. 2021: motor replacement Not UW 2024: vehicle was called in about hatch defect . Apparently, Roper reports that it is fixed yet- it IS NOT. I was unaware of the rods recall. That would explain why I need another motor. 2025: motor is knocking. Not UW 2025: AIS: vehicle has stalled at busy intersections after an idle stop. Scary when you have a car full of kids and your car doesn’t want to go. Now the car will just loose power and not start at a stop light regularly. I paid $43,000 for a vehicle that may have all the bells and whistles but it is complete trash to say the least. I have records of all of the work, issues, and roper has recorded calls that could be supenaded. ROPER HONDA JOPlIN MO
At high rate of speed on two lane road the hood would lift when another vehicle coming from the other direction. was driving cross country when this first happen. Call the local dealer who looked up by vin an showed no recall. They wanted me to come in and pay out of pocket repair. I feel this should be a recall because if you look it up by year it shows there is a problem with either the hood or hood latch.
AIS is failing. Car stalls out multiple times. Sometimes car will not even start when turning trying to turn on the first time. Weird instances occur all of the time: screen going black, radio going to full volume and not able to turn down, screen not working at all. Reached out to Honda several times with specific dates of incidents, and they ignore.
The alarm continuously goes off unprompted while the car is off. The dashboard lights will flash as if the car is attempting to start without any input from the driver. Clicking can be heard from the dashboard during this time. The battery is drained from this continuous issue. Other systems then seem to be impacted. The car has begun lurching out struggling to shift gears. In the last 3 years, all fluid systems have been flushed, battery replaced, oil gauge replaced, and keyless remote entry module replaced. The issue persists. All recalls have been completed as well. When the car is in ACC mode, the battery indicator is on and the flashing of the dashboard indicators still happens (as when the car is off right leading up to the alarm being tripped). Once the car is started , the indicator goes away. There is no apparent clicking or changes in the dashboard when the car is on and actively drawing from the battery.
When the Auto Idle feature is on, the car will often completely turn off when at a red light or in stop & go traffic. When it is time to move again, I cannot go. Cars are honking at me to move, but the car will not start. I have to put the car in park, completely turn it off, and restart it. This sometimes happens on the interstate in heavy traffic, which can be extremely dangerous. My car’s engine light had been having a warning sign “emissions system problem”. I took it to the dealer, and told them about the auto idle problem & the light, but they could not find anything wrong. A few months later, my engine failed & they said it wasn’t covered under the recent recall so I had to pay $7,000 for a new engine. Now a few months later, the auto idle problem is happening again & the emissions system problem light is back on again. The new engine is only a few months old
My name is [XXX] . I am submitting this formal complaint regarding the repeated and serious transmission failures on two 2016 Honda Pilot vehicles that I own. Both vehicles were purchased together and have developed nearly identical transmission problems, posing serious safety concerns. Despite regular maintenance, including expensive and frequent transmission fluid changes, both vehicles have experienced significant drivability issues. I brought one of the Pilots to an authorized Honda dealership, where I paid out-of-pocket for an inspection, but Honda refused any assistance, citing mileage. However, I believe the nature of the defect, not the mileage, is the true concern, as transmission failure affects the safe operation of the vehicle. Transmission failure at any speed, especially in family SUVs like the Pilot, presents a real danger to occupants and others on the road. High mileage should not excuse serious mechanical defects that directly impact vehicle safety. Given that there are many similar complaints online from other Honda Pilot owners, I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether a broader manufacturing defect exists with the 2016 Honda Pilot’s transmission systems. I appreciate your time and attention to this important safety matter INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This is my second complaint regarding my other 2016 Honda Pilot (VIN: [XXX] ). Like my first Pilot, it suffers from serious transmission issues — jerking, rough shifting, and occasional loss of power. Both vehicles were maintained properly and now have the same safety-related defect. Honda refused to replace the transmission, citing that the vehicle is over the mileage limit for warranty coverage. I believe this is unacceptable, as safety issues like this should not be dismissed based on mileage. A known defect that puts lives at risk must be addressed, and I urge NHTSA to investigate this pattern. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While stopped at a busy intersection, the “auto idle” feature turned the car off. When the foot was removed from the break, the car is supposed to turn back on and go. This time the car made a sound like metal grinding on metal, then the car automatically shifted into neutral. It would not shift back into drive. We had to put the car in park, turn it off and restart. Fortunately there was no one behind us at the light, this could have ended very differently since we were unable to move when the light changed.
Pilot has auto start/stop problems. when it stops, if the exact pedal procedure isn't followed the car will lurch forward and stall engine. After that is it difficult to restart. This situation creates a dangerous situation as the vehicle fails to pull out in traffic under power. Very POOR design by Honda and should be permanently disabled for driver/occupant safety
Our stop/start feature consistently causes the car to stall instead of restarting the engine. This leaves us stranded in or at intersections while waiting for the car to respond to pressing the park and restart buttons. This regularly takes enough time we have narrowly avoided being hit multiple times from suddenly not being able to move. Because it can turn off at any time you are fully stoped we have been caught after having to make a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and then still being stalled when the light changed. Honda has experienced the problem and has only been willing to change the battery. A fully charged and new battery does temporarily reduce the number of occurrences. This has only been inspected by Honda because we have not had an actual accident yet. There are no other warning lights on the car at any point. This is a regular and known issue that they have failed to fix.
This accident happended about three months ago. While I was driving on highway, all of suddend, most the signals popped up like firework, AWD/VSV/EPS/TSA and Hill Start Asssitance and etc. My pilot just like lost power and hardly to be speeded up. This was really scarily on the highway. Then I managed to drive to my friends' garage. My friend, who owns a garage, helped me to diagnosis the issue and failed to find anything significant (See attached) . He then cleaned up a the signals above, and let me drive home. Amazingly after a the error signals cleaned up, my pilot was running normally. So couple of weeks later, I sent my car to DavisHonda, a dealer close to my home, to have a close check. Unfortunately, the report shows that everything is normally. At this moment, I am so surprised how could that happens to my car. My gut feeling for this accident is this one is mostly the software issue than hardware issue. So how in some particular conditions the software has some hacuup. But this could rely on your investigation. Maybe this is only one or two cases. But for me I still feel no comfortable to drive this car around, since I feel it is not that safe any more. Hope you guy can find some answer for me.
The ATF Warmer failed. This allowed engine coolant and transmission fluid to mix. This caused the engine and transmission to overheat. No warning messages appeared up until the transmission overheated. A warning appeared about the transmission, but not about the engine. Honda says that they do not think my VIN was impacted by this known issue. And, yet, my car has a textbook defective ATF warmer with 100% overlap in symptoms with a known service bulletin issue (17-035 from April 7, 2018).
The Auto Idle Stop System sometimes stalls car instead of re-starting it. It is still in gear when it stalls and can roll on its on. You expect it to start up the way it should and for you to accelerate but it stalls and rolls on its on. You need to put it in park, shut it off and restart it. Not very safe if you were stopped in traffic.
Our 2016 Honda Pilot Elite sputtered as we tried to accelerate and then the engine died. It is available for inspection upon request. The engine stop unexpectedly while driving limiting control of the vehicle. The problem has been reproduced for an independent service center. The Honda service center, and two independent service centers are unable to determine the cause from the vehicle codes. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior to the engine dying.
Idle stop feature caused the car to fall dead and go stuck into neutral while at a stop sign and getting ready to pull off into traffic to make a right onto the feeder of a busy freeway. I had to place the car into park then press the ignition button to turn the car back on then shift back to drive before being able to pull off.
I began having intermittent issues with my electric start button. I called Honda of mentor where I purchased the car. They told me I'd need to bring it in for diagnostic. Initially since they claimed this wasn't something they had heard of as an issue and since it was only an Intermittent issue I didn't take it in. The issue got worse until 1 day at work my car didn't want to start. I again called Honda of menor and explained the issue and asked if they had heard of anyone else having the same problem and was told no and all I could do was bring it in for diagnostic. So I scheduled the appointment and once off the phone I got on Google and found a service bulletin for my exact issue so I was obviously upset and felt lied to. I took the bulletin to the appointment but was told that since my car was like 2000 miles over they wouldn't cover the issue.. but I had called about it 4-5 months prior and I was never notified the bulletin was issued. They ended up charging me to fix the issue or they were going to charge me a diagnostic fee. I feel robbed and now I am reading about the engine recall and many who are supposedly not a part of the recall but having the exact problem. I certainly hope I don't encounter issues with my engine. Honda is apparently not as trustworthy as they once were and they don't care.
I just purchased this vehicle this year if any components failed I do not know of it.
I have a 2016 Pilot (Touring), and about a month ago, I started experiencing static in the audio. It begins faintly in the background and gradually increases in volume until it completely overtakes the audio, leaving only static. The issue persists regardless of the audio source selected.
When at a stop at an intersection the engine auto idle/stop feature will engage and when you let off the break the engine comepletely dies and you have to put car in park and restart the car. This is extrememly dangerous when at intersections and in turning lanes.
Keyless entry malfunction. Vehicle not starting at times. Replaced battery. Error lights on dash. A known issue by Honda
The A/C in my 2016 Honda Pilot is blowing hot air. On my first visit to the dealer, dye was added to detect the leak at a cost of $422. Upon returning to the dealer a second time, the dealer replaced the A/C condenser at a cost of $1,075, which did not solve the problem. Upon returning to the dealer a third time, the A/C condenser was replaced again, and that also did not solve the problem. Upon returning to the dealer a fourth time, the dealer now recommends replacing the A/C evaporator at a cost of $2216. I believe these parts are defective, as Honda has already issued service bulletins extending the warranty to 10 years for the A/C Condenser in certain vehicles. This new warranty extension applies to the Accord, Accord Hybrid, Clarity, Civic Type-R, and Insight. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] According to the service bulletins "This warranty extension covers vehicles that have a defective A/C condenser from the factory. The A/C condenser was not manufactured to specification. As a result, corrosion may develop in the form of tiny holes in the condenser tube walls that allow the refrigerant to leak out." See (Warranty Extension: 2019–21 Insight A/C Condenser) I am requesting that the 2016 Honda Pilot be included in the warranty extension, as I am experiencing the same issues for the expensive repairs. For the last few years the idle stop feature has resulted more than one dozen times of me being stuck at a stop light and not being able to get the car started. It will idle off and when I lift my foot off the break it will have trouble starting back up. If I wait a minute or so it can sometimes start back up but at least four times it has required a jump start to get it started again. It’s extremely stressful and scary to be at a light and stuck there with people honking and having to get out of the vehicle in a busy intersection to try to jump start the vehicle. I try to remember to turn off the feature every time I start the car but I forget sometimes. After the latest time being stuck with a toddler and trying to get someone to stop to jump start my car I am sending in a report.
A few years ago, I reported a problem with my car's auto idle stopping, causing the car to stall, and taking a few minutes to restart. Honda offered to update my software to fix this issue, which I did last March. Today, driving, the car stalled again. The issue has not been fixed with the software update. Again, after stalling, the car needed to be put in park and started again. This took a few minutes. I was in traffic, and numerous cars behind me honked and were frustrated. A few weeks ago, we drove the car on a very slow, crowded freeway. I was extremely concerned the same thing would happen. I have three teen drivers. We were so concerned about this issue that we purchased a new car for them (we would not have otherwise). This cost us a significant amount of money. I am anxious each time I drive our Pilot. I am concerned that some day someone will rear end me, or I will encounter road rage over not being able to move when cars are lined up behind me. Please, please require Honda to deactivate the auto idle feature or recall this vehicle. I do not feel comfortable selling it to someone else, but really don't want to drive it. Thank you.
On several occasions in 2024 1 - 2 months apart I have been stopped at a light in my 2016 Honda Pilot I have around 150,000 miles on it. The car will stall out and I can barely make it to the side of the road. All the dashboard lights come on Vehicle Stability Assist Problem, Power Steering System Problem, Emissions System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Trailer Stability Assist Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem. I had the Catalytic Converters changed about 2 months ago at a cost of $3,000 and this is still happening. Once the battery is disconnected the codes go away and the car drives fine for a while, but not this last time. We had AAA come out and put a new battery, they AAA service drove off, I pulled out 3 feet and the car cut off again and all the lights came back on and the car would not move.
Keyless Start System Problem message has recently started appearing on the screen when I start the vehicle. The key fobs do not appear to work to their proper capability either. The locking feature when walking away does not work. Vehicle has continued to drive properly for now but other reports show the vehicle may shut off while driving. Some research shows a recall but local Honda dealership does not see anything regarding this. This needs attention as it appears to be an ongoing issue.
This issue occurred [XXX]. The fuel door would not open when we were at the gas station to fill up. We opened the side panel inside the back of the vehicle and tried to open using the emergency lever but that did not work either. Had to take to our local Honda dealer, Swickard of Thousand Oaks in Thousand Oaks, California. Our vehicle had only 59,088 miles when this stopped working. On the service order from our dealer In the description of the concern it states that after inspecting the fuel door actuator, fuel door cable and the fuel door grommet it was found that the cable was kinked, causing the plastic grommet to break apart. From the description from the dealer it sounds like the cable was installed incorrectly when the vehicle was made causing the failure. We were fortunate that we were not traveling and not been near a dealer or mechanic when this issue occurred. I purchased this vehicle a little less than two months ago… this vehicle is babied and I make sure to stay on top of everything possible as it’s a primary transportation to bring my toddler to his many appointments. While operating on the highway, everything was smooth sailing as expected, until I heard a noise. I glanced in the rear view mirror to see a part flying off of the car and colliding with the vehicle behind me. I couldn’t locate where the item came from. Today, I went to pick my son up from preschool and noticed the entire piece on the roof was hanging outward, right off and over the side of the vehicle. Had I not noticed, it could’ve caused further danger to others. I hopped up to look at my roof to realize the rear trim is the piece that flew off, and the following straight part is what was now dangling over the side. On top of everything else, on the same side, the trim along the side my of windshield is upraised and I am absolutely torn. How dangerously this could’ve ended had I not noticed. I’ve seen other pilot-owners discuss how their trim pieces have caused trouble and even further dented some trunks. This needs to be brought to attention, I didn’t spend $$,$$$ on a vehicle that is not safe.
-Defective Keyless Access Unit (dealer kept old unit) -My car completely lost power -Honda dealer confirmed defective keyless access unit -Car not inspected by others, except for AAA who had to replace my battery 2 times due to drainage of power -The problems experienced were that the car start would be hit or miss and then complete drainage of battery happened
The car just stopped while being driven in the freeway around December 2022. It was towed to the dealership and they said that the engine "seized." We wrote a letter to Honda and they said that it was our fault (car has very little miles- it's a family car). The engine light was never resolved even after engine was replaced. Honda then came out with a recall for 2016 Honda Pilot for engine seizing but they said my VIN did not qualify although this was the exact same issue. I tried reaching out with them to no avail. I am afraid to transport my children in this vehicle and I have already spend over 10k fixing it. It also feels unethical to sell the vehicle knowing it's defective. If possible, please look into the VIN's that are part of the recall since I am afraid there are a lot more cars driving in the freeway from the manufacturer that has the same issue which pose a safety concern to the passengers and the cars around it.
getting intermittent exhaust fumes inside the cabin. co2 and other exhaust gasses getting inhaled by my family
I was driving my vehicle on the highway at approximately 70 kph when the engine seized and all of the warning lights in the dash went out simultaneously. The car would barely accelerate but I was able to pull over and get it towed to a shop. The shop diagnosed total engine failure as a result of tension rod shavings showing in the oil filter. I researched recalls for my model & year and found November 13, 2023 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 23V751000. Although my specific VIN is not yet included, both the model/ year and symptoms of the issue match exactly with what happened to me. I urge you to include my VIN in this recall.
Vehicle audio has a kind of its own, on/off/ up/ down all without touching the screen or buttons. Goes all the way to max volume without warning. Definitely a safety risk when you are not expecting noise at all.
Since 2021 the vehicle has stalled everywhere we go and has a gas/electrical burn fume. The vehicle had stalled in the middle of the highway and didn't allow us to shift it into any gears while flashing all dashboard lights. The vehicle was towed to Legend driven Honda where they couldn't find any issues and said they just reset the transmission code. For our peace of mind, we thought it would be best to have the full work up on the transmission since the dealership seemed incompetent with our vehicle's malfunction. The vehicle continued to stall and even had trouble starting up at times with the continued gas fumes. Well, it wasn't long before the issue returned and we were back to where we started, along with our A/C unit failing on us. We left the vehicle idle in the driveway for a bit as it was a safety concern for our families' wellbeing. We later received a recall notice on the auto-idle stop mechanism which we figured must have been the issue all along. We took it back to the dealership where they did their full inspection and came up with our transmission needing its regular full work-up which we had proclaimed that we already had done in the earlier months. After the alleged recall fix, the problem continued. We took the vehicle back and were told it was our battery and recommended our timing belt be replaced otherwise it would cause major issues down the road(it was concerning to us as these issues were never brought up the multiple times we had brought it in for the initial issues). Surely, we had it all fixed and replaced for the safety of our families well being having had our vehicle stall numerous times on the road which has now caused our children to be frightened of driving anywhere. Well on return home from the dealership, the vehicle did not stall, 2 hours later went to turn it on, it did not want to start and made a loud knocking noise. Currently towed to a different dealership
I am reporting a problem with the 2016 Honda Pilot audio system. It sounds identical to the reported problems that have lead to a recall for the 2018-2022 models. The system works fine initially, but after 30 minutes of driving, the system becomes filled with static noise. The static noise starts out low, but quickly gets to the point where nothing else can be heard. This is across all input channels: AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, XM Satellite, etc.. The system then eventually shuts down and no sound can be heard.
While driving my car started doing a jerking motion as if it wanted to stall. Then all the warning lights the car could possibly have started flashing. All wheel drives engine warning came on as well as emissions systems problem warning light. I was able to park it for the night and made an appt to have it checked but by morning the warning lights were gone. A week later the emissions systems problem warning came back on but went away a fee days later before I could get it to the shop. This problem has happened twice already and I have had to have my fuel pump replaced, the sensor and the fuel injector. At this time my car has trouble starting as if not enough fuel is being injected and the transmission sounds not right.
Auto Start/Stop feature has repeatedly struggled to restart car at stop lights. Disabling this feature manually after starting the car is the only way to disable this feature. Initial failures were due to battery wear, but after replacing the battery we still have intermittent issues where the vehicle will not restart after the auto stop feature has shut off the engine. This is very dangerous in traffic or in an intersection when expecting the vehicle to restart when you remove your foot from the gas and it instead shuts the vehicle off and puts the vehicle in park. It can take multiple tries to successfully restart the car after this shut down event. The dealership has not been able to replicate the issue.
I am reporting a problem with the 2016 Honda Pilot audio system. It sounds identical to the reported problems that have lead to a recall for the 2018-2022 models. The system works fine initially, but anywhere from 10 min - 1 hour into driving the system becomes staticky. The static noise starts out low, but quickly gets to the point where nothing else can be heard. This is across all input channels: radio, ipod, XM Satellite, etc.. The system then eventually shuts down and no sound can be heard.
Unable to open my gas cap door either by pushing the gas opener button by driver side door or manually from the latch located in the trunk. I was running low on gas and am unable to refill the gas. Others offered to help by forcing the gas door open but said they would definitely damage the car. Gas attended looked at it and was unable to open gas door to refill gas tank. Without gas, my car is unable to turn on and drive. My kids were in the car with me and we were stranded. My car did not show any signs of warnings for this issue.
the auto engine idle stop repeatedly malfunctions causing the stopped car to not start up when it is time to go. It takes several seconds to restart the car and, in the middle of an intersection, this is very dangerous. It has happened numerous times. The dealer repeatedly says that there is nothing wrong with it. There are no warning signs when this happens. I am reporting the date of the last incident below
WHILE DRIVING HOME, ABOUT 30 MPH, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, TRANSMISSION FEELS LIKE IT IS SHIFTING ODDLY, THE STEERING GETS HARDER TO STEER THE LONGER YOU DRIVE AND IT GOT HARDER TO BREAK LIKE THE BRAKES WERE FREEZING UP.
the auto idle stop stalls and does not restart when you press the accelerator. I have been caught stalled in the middle of intersections too many times to count. Well over 100. It is extremely dangerous in city traffic. Other drivers behind me are honking horns and it takes a while to restart the car.I have narrowly avoided a serious accident at least 25 times. The dealer has been told about the problem numerous times and is aware of this happening with other people with the same car. They check it out and say that nothing is wrong but then it will stall again on the way home from the dealership. You have no warning when this is about to happen.
I am having issues with crackling and popping noises in my stereo system. I know that this is a common issue. I understand that there may be a recall.
This vehicle has had an excessive amount of problems. The electrical system seems to be failing after much maintenance. Determining if there is an electrical short. The car alarm randomly goes when not triggered. The entertainment panel randomly adjusts volume settings and turns on and off on its own. The sunroof has opened and not closed back due to electrical issue. The gas gauge does not add the available fuel correctly after refueling. Sometimes, the gauge remains at zero or the same number. There is a horrible, annoying squealing sound that is coming from the front lower portion of the vehicle when driving. No one, including the dealership, have been able to identify where this loud squealing sound is coming from. Currently, the AC has failed in 120 degree weather. It has been a horrible experience for our family and we regret purchasing this vehicle!
The rear view camera doesn’t always work on the display on the dash. When we put it in reverse the screen shows black instead of what is behind our vehicle. This issue is intermittent.
1. My moonroof/sunroof will not close. when trying to close it, it comes close to closing then opens up again. Tried to close multiple times and the same result. Then I tried to hold down the wind deflector as it closes and hope not to pinch my finger. after trying that multiple times, I was able to close my moonroof/sunroof. 2. with a moonroof unable to close, weather could come in and compromise the safety of everyone in the car. Further, holding down the wind deflector while trying to close could injure someone if the timing is not right. 3. Have not taken it to dealer yet. 4. Has not been inspected yet. 5. No warning lamps or messages prior to failure of closing moonroof.
keyless control module, alarm Goes off randomly with headlights coming on, draining the battery.
The keyless start systems problem light has been on for about a month and sometimes I have issues starting the vehicle.
Unless I remember to disable "Auto engine idle stop" my car will die at a light or any place I'm stopped. A bunch of random lights or warnings flash across the dashboard , brake won't push in, and I am unable to put it in neutral for my vehicle to be moved off the road or interstate. I have had cops park behind my completely dead vehicle stating "I just want to make sure the other cars on the road stay off your back so you don't get hit" all while we figure out why we can't even put it in neutral just to move it. We then have to jump-start it to get it moving again with no promises it will either start or stay on once started. Because this has happened multiple times, my vehicle has now been having issues starting at random, once happening the afternoon of 4/16/2023 after it wasn't driven the day before. My battery and alternator have both been checked and are excellent condition.
While traveling from northern Illinois to Sarasota, FL, vehicle transmission stopped functioning along I-75 near Tifton, GA. It had been raining the entire trip. No one was injured. We were passing a vehicle in the left lane, and without any warning the transmission just stopped. We couldn’t accelerate. We coasted to the shoulder. We couldn’t put the vehicle into park. 2 warning lights/messages came up: emissions system failure and AWD system failure. We turned off the car, waited 10 minutes, then drove to the nearest exit and turned off the car for an additional 45 minutes. The Honda Dealership in Sarasota said it needed a software upgrade. After paying for the upgrade we learned from a previous Honda engineer that it’s a known problem.
My sunroof glass spontaneously exploded. It was not hit by an object nor were temperatures extreme. Had my inside sunroof visor not been closed, the broken glass would’ve fallen on the vehicle occupants causing injury. I received a minor glass cut will taping the glass so that the vehicle could be driven home. The issue has been reported to insurance but no inspections have yet been made nor were police reports filed. There were no warning signs prior to the glass explosion, just a loud pop as the glass began popping up and cracking. I watched it happen from outside the car. Little pieces popped up onto the roof, then a wave went through the glass, portions fell into the sunroof, and then cracks ran though the entire pane. After researching, I learned this is a known glass defect issue with certain makes and models. I am fortunate that I had just parked; if I had been driving, the glass could’ve fallen into the car inurying occupants or could’ve flown off the car and hit other cars or pedestrians.
Auto idle stop randomly fails to restart engine when attempting to accelerate from stop. After coming to a stop and the idle stop feature engages, the vehicle may not restart. While in heavy traffic on interstates the failure to restart creates panic. Car stalls to neutral. Car must be turned off and restarted and then shifted to drive in order to accelerate. Same at traffic lights, or turn lanes, on hills, a sudden shut down requiring a complete restart. There are several steps required to get the vehicle to restart. This takes several seconds (enough time that traffic lights cycle). This results in following vehicles attempting to pass if a lane is available, angry motorists, and panicked driver. Car has been inspected by dealer but there is no fix for the problem. There are no warning lights or indicators that the system will or is about to fail. The problem apparently does not create any kind of “code” in the system. The only solution is to turn the system off each and every time you start the vehicle. The system cannot be legally disabled and by default it is always on when vehicle is started. This problem began approximately 18 months ago when the vehicle had @ 90k miles. Honda recently announced a software update and a warranty extension regarding the problem. The software update has been completed on the vehicle. However the problem continues. Honda’s apparent solution is to extend the warranty on the parts involved - the starter, or starter relays, or adjust the valves on the engine. But there is no “fix” for the problem. We are told to simply “continue to monitor”.
I see couple of safety concerns with 2016 Honda Pilot touring. 1) There is no option to disable 'tailgate opening & closing by FOB' in 2016 Honda Pilot touring. Even with an unintentional small press of fob key tailgate button, the tailgate can open & hit anybody (may be the car next in school lane) or anything in the back (may be garage door) 2) There is no option to adjust height of tailgate in 2016 Honda Pilot touring. It can hit top of garage of any house & cause safety issue Honda should take action to recall & rectify those part for human & property safety.
Front windshield wiper washer jet hood nozzle sprayer fell off and is lost. Called Honda dealer. They checked with Honda corporation and are advised that there are 1,100 of these on back order. Lead time is approximately 4 months! Without this part, windshield cannot be cleaned by the windshield washer should it be urgently needed while traveling down highway. This puts safety at risk.
Sun visor part number 83230-TG7-A11ZA has failed twice now (6/24/2019 and again 9/29/2021). What happens is that the tension spring internal to the sun visor fails causing the sun visor to flop down impeding the driver's vision directly forward. We had to purchase new replacement sun visors twice. This is likely to happen again, so I'm keeping a close watch for it. This puts the safety of driver, passengers, other vehicles and pedestrians as risk as it happens suddenly. Honda has made no attempt that I am aware of to remedy the problem.
This problem is the auto stop/start mechanism. This has been going on for at least 3-4 years. The car will automatically stop when we are at a red light or a stop sign, but then will not start when you press the gas. The vehicle is completely dead. It is completely cut off. It has powered down. You are in the Drive gear, so you must have the presence of mind to switch the vehicle to Park, put your foot on the brake and press start. It's very frightening if you are at a big intersection. This happens every time you drive for any distance. It doesn't happen at every intersection; it's an intermittent problem making it worse. We try to remember to disable the auto stop/start when we start but sometimes we forget. There is NO WAY to permanently disable the feature or we would. It's a scary pain.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The liftgate malfunctioned. it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I opened the liftgate for my wife and it closed while she was trying to take something from the back. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It has not been confirmed by a dealer or anyone else. it happens sporatically. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The car makes a loud beeping noise when closing. It first happened on December 4, 2022. and it has happened a few times since then including yesterday.
The stop/start system will fail to restart the engine and stall the vehicle. This is the system that is designed to shut the engine off when at stop lights in order to save fuel. There are times when the engine will stall when it attempts to start the engine again. This does not happen all the time but has happened frequently enough that my wife and I have both stalled at the same intersection. You can turn off the stop/start feature each time you get in the car but we do not always remember. When it does stall all the lights on the dash flash and it's normally a frantic moment of trying to restart the car while cars behind you are honking. So far we have been able to restart it each time but I'm concerned this won't always be the case. We've taken this in to Honda and they don't have a solution or even really seem to acknowledge it. This is also a safety issue since my wife is working at various hospitals and some are in higher crime areas. I do not want her to stall there. I also don't want someone to hit us if they try to go when the light is green and we are stuck in front of them. There should at least be a permanent override of the system so we don't have to remember to turn it off each time we are in the car. That could completely solve the issue.
The automatic start/stop function works intermittently when I come to a complete stop or turn off the car for a short amount of time. Most of the time, when I make a complete stop, the Honda Pilot won't automatically restart. I have to put the Honda Pilot in park and restart the engine, which still doesn't work. I have to wait a significant amount of time before reattempting the ignition. If I disable the automatic shut-off feature when I turn on the Honda Pilot, the SUV drives like normal. However, there is no permanent vehicle setting to disable the automatic shut-off. Lastly, the SUV usually won't restart even if I make a short duration stop, such as pump gas or running inside a store. At first this was a rare occurrence. Over tha past year, the Honda Pilot has gotten worse. Now, it's an everyday occurrence.
When driving my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring and forgetting to turn off the auto idle my car will completely shut off and not turn on. This has happened a total of 3 times since owning my car. All three have occurred at a red light intersection. I’m grateful nobody has rear ended me in these occurrences. It seems when the car tries to start the engine, all the dashboard lights light up and we get the messages lane departure mitigation or brake problem and the car stalls. The first occurrence happened in October of 2020 and we had to jumpstart the battery. This happened on a short 15 mile trip. We replaced the battery at that time. The 2nd and 3rd time was this past week of January 2, 2023 when driving a long distance trip 500-1000 miles. Luckily the car started back up since we were on a trip and did not have family or friends in the area.
The auto start on vehicle is defective. When sitting at red light the vehicle shuts off and the when you go to excelerate the car stalls. I have taken to 2 Honda dealers and have been told that your agency is investigating problem. This has happened repeatedly and the dealer doesn’t have fix. Does it take someone getting hurt for Honda to address issue.
When car stops due to Auto Idle it then stalls and gos into neutral shutting of engine completely With collision warning coming up. Then have to shut car off , put into park before it struggles to restart. I have documented on 2 other occasions with NHTSA and to be honest if I was to document this every time you would have 100’s of reports from me. This vehicle is dangerous due to Auto Idle. I try to over ride it if I remember but that’s not always the case. I have taken it to Hoehn Honda in Carlsbad CA multiple times but to no avail can they fix it. As a consumer I’m trying my best to take safety seriously as this car will kill someone. When will Honda or the goverment take this seriously. The defect in this car the auto idle needs to be looked at or recalled.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. Vehicle must be placed in park and attempt to restart. Sometimes restart does not happen for several tries. Has happened 10-15 times over the last 3 years, since around 30,000 miles, and dealership has tried investigating and have failed to remedy after 3 separate visits. Date indicated in this report is the latest occurrence.
i driving home from a local costco and slowed to a stop at an intersection not far from my home. The car stalled and would not restart. After several attempts the car completely shut off and I was unable to even turn on any of the accessories. Ultimately I had to have the vehicle towed to a local shop because I was obstructing traffic and was at a dangerous intersection. I late continued to have similar issues after several battery replacements and jump starts. I had my vehicle serviced at a local dealer and they advised that it was the central power module that was bad. I was advised that this also controls the Intermittent Idle control function that is designed to save gas when the car is idle and not running. The car was was not under warranty so I had to pay for the new part and installation. The car is now experiencing similar issues. The car will randomly loose power and most recently will be completely non operational and jump starts are necessary to restart the car. A Keyless start System error has now been appearing randomly. Their is a TSB out for this particular part but have been advised that code has to be present in order the the local dealership to initiate a repair. I am going to attempt to have the vehicle brought to a local dealer for inspection.
All warning lights turned on during a normal drive. The dealer said it is a harness issue and needs to replace the harness to fix the issue. Surprised that a part that does not move had to be replaced. It has happened a couple of times before.
Hi, today my 2016 pilot elite stop working on a red light. Once the brake pedal was released, the engine stop and warning lights appeared on the dash board: Neautral message light and Battery light. My wife and two daughters were scared and helpless. Cars were honking. After around 2 minutes and at least three tries to turn on, it finally did. We are happy to know that Honda is working on this matter, thanks.
2016 Honda Pilot touring Model Issue: Idle-stop Feature While driving the vehicle and comes on the intersection/stop light when you hit brakes the idle-stop feature will turn off your engine but once you release the brakes the engine wont turn on. To able to turn on the engine, you need to turn off the vehicle by pressing ignition button then you need to press it again to turn on engine (is like starting the vehicle again). Here some stances happened while this idle stop didnt work well. Driver at the back, you're using cellphone, start honking and when they by pass you yelling stop using cellphone. Or simple honk you and when you look they're confused as we're you what's going on. Honda or other people saying its related to battery but even with new battery this still happened. If this will not be fix or resolve soon, this cause an accident. either remove this feature or fixed this issue.
My 2016 Honda Pilot has been experiencing an issue with the auto start-stop system, in which the vehicle's engine fails to restart after a stop and/or the dashboard indicators flash on and off with multiple error codes displaying. This has happened many times on the highway and on streets, one time where it would not restart on the highway and cars were going around me on both sides which was very dangerous. I reported this to Honda corporate and opened up a case, which was open for many months while the Pauly Honda dealer in Libertyville, IL and the Muller Honda dealer in Gurnee, IL tried to diagnose the problem. They ended up trying several fixes, including replacing the battery, but nothing has fixed the issue. The dealer also contacted the engineers at Honda Corporate, and they indicated that they were not aware of the issue and have not been able to provide any fixes. This is still an issue today, and the only workaround I have is to disable the auto start/stop function manually, every time I start the car. Dates: - I checked and we actually brought our car into Muller Honda of Gurnee in September 2021 where we reported an issue where "C/S (customer) feels like it wants to die coming to a stop. Dash lights turn off like vehicle died. All displays go dark." They felt that it was "Caused by: Technician verified keyless remote system problem light on dash. Tech found code B12C5 stored in system. Corrected by (Y9300) (6S100) Warranty extension. Keyless start system error with DTC B12C5. BulletinS". This did not fully resolve the issue. - Then in October 2021 we brought the car into Pauly Honda of Libertyville where we again reported the same issue where "Customer states in eco mode the center screen now goes blank then cycles and comes back on." This did not fully resolve the issue. - Then in the spring of 2022 we brought it back to Pauly Honda as more severe issues started occurring. I also opened up Case #13103604 with Honda Corporate.
On multiple occasions, the engine fails to restart after the auto start/stop function has engaged. I have previously had this addressed by a Honda Dealer at which time they replaced some parts having to do with the ignition system. The problem is still occurring and the only remedy is to manually shut off the auto start/stop function each time the vehicle is driven.
Auto idle stop malfunctions regularly without any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before the malfunction. This causes the vehicle to restart automatically or it requires the driver to restart the vehicle manually. An error message appears on the console screen for less than one second at the time of the problem, but no warning or error messages before or after. This presents a safety issue (i.e., risk of collision) to the driver and other passengers when attempting to accelerate when a traffic light turns green, proceeding after a stop sign , or turning left in front of oncoming vehicles. Service technicians at multiple Honda service centers have reproduced the problem, with the only solution being to replace the battery on two separate occasions (Jan-2020 and Sep-2022). However, the issue pre-dates Jan-2020 but the Honda service center did not perform any repairs after the diagnostic scans.
My car often does not start back up at stop signs/traffic lights. I feel very much in danger. It is difficult to get my car to start back up after it fails to start back up. I usually have to press really hard on the brake and even this is difficult to get it to restart. This is supposed to save fuel but I’m so afraid that someone is going to crash into me and put us all in harms way. Please help!
My 2016 honda Pilot Touring model won’t restart after idle stopped. I have to place car in park and restart using the start button. Issue occurs only when can idle stops. This has happened to us about 5 - 6 times over a course of 1 year. Detailed says they are unable to find the issue after a software scan. This is a serious safety concern.
This like the third time this has happened where the stop-start feature on my Honda Pilot almost have gotten me into a serious accident. It has happened during stop and go on I95 when I was heading to Maine and I stopped and it literally almost shutdown after I got ready to go forward. Most recently it happened 4 Sep 2022 at about 11:05am EST and was in a turning line in Chelsea, MA and it when it into stop idle shutdown feature but then completely shut off and it took about 2 to 3mins to get it to start back up. The car behind almost hit the back thinking I was pulling off but my Honda Pilot shutdown right when I was getting ready to take off. This is serious danger and defect in this when I see other vehicles operate with no problem with this feature. This could cause someone to get into a serious accident especially in Massachusetts.
When you start the car it is always in economy mode so that the engine can shut off when you are stopped. I like to turn this feature off manually as a few times if I don’t the car has stalled and also goes into neutral. Happened while I was on California highway 80 in stop and go traffic which was pretty scary as I was in the center lane. This was about two months ago. It happens about 10% of the time when I am in this mode if not completely stalling it splutters and feels like it won’t start or delays to restart. Happened yesterday at a light. Became a safety issue as cars tried to go around me by getting into the next lane which was flowing freely. Basically if I don’t turn the function off when I first start the car it is not safe. The dealer took a look about a year ago and found nothing and said they had not heard of the issue. I pointed out I had read about the issue in Honda forums they could find them easily it however they had no interest, maybe because they focus on known issues? Love the car apart from this issue.
My 2016 Honda Pilot is displaying a "Keyless Start System Problem". There is a Service Bulletin 20-117 that extends the warranty for affected vehicles so they can be repaired under the warranty for free. The Service Bulletin states that ALL Trim levels are affected vehicles, however, my vin #[XXX], does not come up as an affected vehicle. My vehicle needs to be included in and covered by the Service Bulletin 20-117, which will extend the warranty so I can have my vehicle repaired. Please address at your earliest convenience. Thank you. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The auto engine idle feature malfunctions. When stopped in traffic and at intersections the auto engine idle feature turns off the engine; however fails to restart. I can put the car into park, but the brake remains engaged and the ignition button blinks white. I have attempted many different things to 'reset' the computer. Putting the car in park, waiting, unlocking seatbelt, open/shut door. The last time, i had to walk away from the vehicle with the key fob in traffic. Locking and unlocking the car seemed to reset the computer. This placed me in dangerous traffic. It has happened in a construction zone on interstate, at intersections several times, during rush hour when it was impossible to leave the vehicle due to high speed traffic, and once while towing. Each episode has generally taken about 15 minutes for computer to shut down/reset. There is no message on the dash before , during or after. I now disengage the auto engine idle button when driving due to fear of being stranded in dangerous traffic situations. If I forget to turn it off, it is likely to malfunction. I have contacted the dealership about this problem before. There was no code, so the problem was deemed a mystery and remains unresoved by Honda.
On multiple occasions when the auto idle engages the car stalls. The dashboard looks like the car is running by its not. In order for me to be able to drive it I have to put it in park, turn it all the way off, and then restart. This has happened at dangerous intersections where I’ve almost been in an accident. I read that it’s a known problem but Honda isn’t doing anything about it The last time it happened is noted below
After turning a corner vehicle turned off, in the middle of the road, stated put in park and press engine start button, had to press 2x for the car to start
My vehicle is equipped with with an Automatic Engine shutoff. The vehicle shuts off at traffic lights and then fails to turn back on. I have contacted Honda but only told that there is not currently a recall and it would cost 200$ for a diagnostic test to be ran and if they don’t find the problem I am still responsible for the 200$ charge.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the auto/start stop function. This happens intermittently, but has put my family in danger on several occasions. When the light turns green, the car turns off, and has to be put in park and restarted. I have come close to being rear-ended during these situations, as approaching vehicles have to stop suddenly because my car is disabled. I have taken a video of these incidents, but Honda is unable to recreate the issue and has not offered a solution.
While stopped at a stop light the car totally shuts off when you go to start to move again causing you to have to put the car in park. Then start the car back up a begin to drive. This has happened 8 times now. There are no warning lights. The engine just seems to shut totally off in mind stream. What am I supposed to do with this issue that causes this to happen.
My car shuts off and goes into Park at intersections or highway while stuck in traffic if the Auto Engine Idle is not manually disabled. It can take up to 3 minutes to restart my car.
The stop/start system Isn’t working properly. When I stop at a light or stop sign the car will stop and the engine will stop like it is supposed to. But when I take my foot off the brake the car doesn’t start back up. The lights on the dash light up. The dash then tells me to put the car in park and press/hold the start button. It will then start. This has been going on for over a year now. I normally just try to remember to disable it by pressing the button but I shouldn’t have to.
The auto stop on my 2016 honda pilot is causing the car to not restart and have to put in park, restart and then put back into drive. If it doesn't stall completely, everything with shut off (AC, radio) and then start back.
When coming to a complete stop, the vehicles' start/stop feature was engaged and the car's engine turned off. Instead of turning back on when the brake was released, the car did not turn back on. Hitting the ignition button also did not start the vehicle back up immediately. This happened to me two times in the past month. Both times, I was stopped at a red light and the car left me stranded in traffic. After a few attempts of hitting the ignition button, the car would start back up. The vehicles start/stop feature malfunctioned and it would be available for inspection upon request. This put my family's safety at risk because the car left us stranded in the middle of a busy intersection. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. There were no warning lamps prior to the problem.
Ocassionally when stopped at intersections my 2016 Honda Pilot touring edition will go into idle stop mode and not restart. Upon trying to proceed the engine will try to start and stall out. The engine goes dead and I am unable to accelerate out of the intersection. The info dash system indicates the vehicle was in Neutral and that I needed to shift to Park to Proceed. After putting the vehicle in Park the info dash system instructs me to start the engine by pressing the Brake and pushing the Start button. This action is not possible when the vehicle has stalled out as described above and continues to prevent the driver from accelerating out of the intersection. The only solution I found that works is to remove my foot from the brake and power down the vehicle completely. Only when the vehicle is completely powered down is it possible to restart the vehicle by pressing the Brake and Pushing the power button. This event has happened 4 times in the past 3 months on my Pilot. The mileage on my Pilot is ~125,000 miles.
I have a Honda Pilot 2016 with a keyless start system issue. I see a recall document Service Bulletin 20-117 dated December 9, 2020; however, when I type my VIN number for my vehicle, I do not see a recall. I have been having the Keyless start system issue for the past 3 days.
I’m having problem with the start/stop feature if my honda pilot 2016. For a couple of incidents already, when the car idle on a stop, it will not start back. It happened today 7/23/22 in Fletcher ave in Fort Lee, NJ. I had to jump start the car and it caused traffic for a while.
The idle stop on the car is defective, if not turned off which had to be turned off everytime we start the car, The car will randomly idle stop at intersections and won't come back on, will have to forcefully turn off the car and turn it back on. Couple this happened on dangerous intersection and traffic lights. Honda has not resolution, they just say turn off idle stop everytime.
Auto Engine Idle Stop has failed to restart the vehicle in multiple situations, including at traffic lights and in stop and go traffic. Inspection is available upon request. When a trafic light turns green and I have tried to proceed the vehicle stalls and will not restart quickly, the cars behind me are surprised and not happy when I have to go through a procedure to get the car to restart. I have almost been hit by cars behind me several times as they expected me to go when the light turns green. Sometimes my vehicle will not restart for a minute or more. This could be a major issue if you were in traffic and ended up stuck in a place where you should not stop or stall. One time I had to call AAA to get my vehicle to start. They had to disconnect my battery and reattach so the system would reset itself. Only then would the vehicle start. The dealer said they have heard from other owners of Honda Pilots that they want this auto engine idle stop permanently turned off. But they told me they can’t turn it off. This should auto engine idle stop should be something you opt into not have to opt out every time you start your vehicle. There weren’t any lights or warnings that this system would fail ahead of time.
I was driving with the intention to turn left at a major intersection. I was the first car to pull into the left hand turning lane. I put my blinker on and pushed down on the brake waiting for the light to turn green so I could make the left hand turn but the car just shut down. At first I thought it was the auto engine on/off feature but I tried to lift my foot off the brake and the car did not restart. I tried to put the car in park and turn the car completely off (then on again) to see if that fixed the issue but the brake pedal was completely locked and I could not push it down. I ended up having to call the police and a tow company to tow my car out of the intersection. Both the police and the tow company tried to start the car with no luck. They could not even start it to put it in neutral and had to flat bed the car. There were not warning lights or messages on when this occurred. Although no one was hurt, it was an extremely busy intersection where this occurred and I was with my 4 year old daughter. While waiting for the police I had to cross multiple lanes of traffic carrying my daughter because it didn't want someone to rear end my car with her in it. It was also during the start of rush hour and caused a huge traffic back up. My car was subsequently towed to the Honda dealership where I purchased the car and they were able to start it the next morning multiple times with no issue. When they checked for error codes, nothing popped up. The battery was tested with good results. They requested other services be performed: brake system service, fuel system service, etc. but I was told these were unrelated to the break down. I ended spending close to $400 in towing fees and over $800 these additional services. I saw there was an official investigation into the Honda Pilot's start/stop feature and I believe this sounds very similar to what I went through.
Auto stop/start feature will leave vehicle disabled and stranded at lights , and or in the middle of busy roads. Has happened to my wifes 2016 honda pilot 5 times now. Luckily 3 of those times were in parking lots , but twice on a busy highway with kids in the vehicle.
Honda has a "stop / start" feature that when stopping at a stop sign or traffic light, with brakes applied, stops the engine. Once you take foot off brakes, the engine should restart. On four occasions, the engine did not restart. This is a fuel saving feature, however, in each case I'm stuck in traffic while trying to "restart" my Honda Pilot.
Stop/start feature fails to restart the car. I have to turn off the car completely to restart.
stop-start fuel saving system don't work properly.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged, It have happened many times. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer for assessment and they keep telling me that it is due to all the electronics going on at the same time
My 2016 Honda Pilot is experiencing the same exact issue that is reported for Honda Service Bulletin 19-057 first issued 2019 and again in 2020. I reported to Honda Corp. and the dealer we purchased the car from. They both came back after numerous inquires that my car did not qualify for this bulletin as my VIN was not part of this. Not sure how this is possible, if you look at my car the pictures noted on the Service Bulletin could literally be mine. Would it be possible to inquire and have Honda investigate further as to how our car does not qualify for an issue that is occurring for the 2016 Honda Pilot in White Pearl already but not other VIN numbers? Just doesn't seem fair. Thank you for your time
Air conditioning compressor went on my 2016 Pilot. Upon researching, I see that Honda has issued technical service bulletin #19-091 for 2016 - 2018 Civics for condensers that caused the AC to fail. I'm not sure if this is related, but I want to put the information out there anyways as Honda has already addressed an AC issue in similarly aged vehicles. My car has low mileage and is just 6 years old. Compressors should last well past that, and my service person at the authorized dealership said I may be the second he's seen come in that soon with the issue
2016 Pilot stalled at a stop sign after releasing break and pressing the gas. The engine had been off due to the auto stop/start function and did not restart upon release of break.

I exited the freeway and was stop at the light at the off ramp. When the light turned green, I accelerated but the car died. The steering wheel was completely locked up. There was no power and I couldn’t even activate the hazard button. I couldn’t restart the car until several minutes later. This is an ongoing issue. This happens once every several months. I’ve reached out to Honda on several occasions but they couldn’t resolved it. They ran diagnostics but no error code would pop up and since they couldn’t duplicate the problem, they couldn’t fix it.
Our 2016 Honda Pilot recently had dash panel flickering, relays clicking and alarm going off after car was locked up. Reading more about this issue, it seems that a lot of people with the same year 2016 Honda Pilot were having the same issue. Reference this website link -- https://www.piloteers.org/threads/2016-pilot-electrical-issue-possible-keyless-control-unit-panel-relays-flicker-alarm-goes-off-unexpectedly.169315/page-2. Unfortunately, the manufacturing has failed to communicate this to the public, and we had to let our autobody Honda dealership about this widespread issue. A resolution that was explained by some on this website was replacing the keyless control unit, which by the way is on a nationwide backorder. Which is peculiar? This is apparently an issue with this specific model year, and Honda not addressing the issue is a problem. The customer shouldn't bear the responsibility of paying for this electrical or component issue with their vehicle. It seems like this could be a potential safety issue too, if for some reason this affects the computer system of the vehicle. It definitely is not safe, as the alarm is triggered for no reason when the doors are locked! That is an insurance issue, if you can't lock your vehicle because of threat of it being stolen.
My 2016 honda pilot has been experiencing a problem with the auto idle stop (AIS) feature. Randomly when the AIS engages the vehicle will shut off completely and switch to neutral. It displays a message to put in park and apply brake and press start. This does not always work and can take several attempts to restart the vehicle. This happens when in the middle of the road in traffic making it very hazardous. This has occurred more than 20 times over the past 4 years. I have had the battery replaced 3 times, yet the problem continues.
When I started my car, my rear window imploded/shattered. There was no evidence of tampering, no sudden change in temperature, no previous cracks in that window.
I stopped at a red light. The idle stop engaged (ie: the engine turned off but the radio was still on). When the light turned green, I removed my foot from the break and the entire car turned off. I tried pressing the start button but the car didn't turn back on. I turned on my hazard lights as I prepared to call emergency roadside assistance while also continuing to press the start button. It took probably a minute or more for the car to finally turn back on.
Keyless start system problem: the light come and Honda does no know how to address this concern.
Vehicle unexpectedly and unpredictably shuts down when stopped for a red light, at stop sign, or for an extended break period. Vehicle does not immediately restart after shutting off. Vehicle is available for inspection; however, given the safety concerns for our family and unanswered questions from Honda with no resolution in sight, we plan to buy a new vehicle. Vehicle has been disabled when it shuts down in the middle of intersections with cars swerving to avoid. It puts vehicle occupants and other drivers at risk of an accident. Dealer cannot reproduce. After the 1st instance, dealer claimed they found info that was sent to Honda corporate. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership with Honda corporate involvement 3 times. After the 1st time, Honda corporate/dealership replaced battery and state of charge sensor at no cost even though vehicle was not under warranty. After 2nd time, Honda said valves may need adjusting but refused to cover expensive ($1000) work and indicated they were not sure it would even resolve issue. If issue continued, they stated they would not refund money. They now refuse any resolutions without reproducing the car shutting down. There are no warnings, messages, or notifications that vehicle will shut down until it does. A variety of errors display after the vehicle shuts down and vehicle shifts on its own into neutral.
Hello, I have 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. The car was stalled many times since last 3 years where the car stalled out at a red light while using the auto stop-start. It would happen frequently now when I took my foot off the brake and nothing would happen when I put my foot on the gas. Instead of the engine starting up again, the car would stall completely and I would have to put the car in park, press the brake pedal and push the start button to get it on again. I took the car into the dealer David McDavid Frisco and they did not do anything saying they do not see any issue and they said they cannot reproduce the issue. Last night it happened again at a red light with the car stalled when i about to start i was about to get hit by the speeding car behind e and the driver was realized my Car was stopped and he just changed the lane to avoid hitting me. This incident really scared me since i was with my whole Family in the car. Please take this as a serious concern related to human life. Also i noticed from the internet many Honda Pilot owners are having same issue and Honda did not take any action on this.
When stopped at a light, the idle auto engine off feature turned off the engine, then when I remove my foot from the pedal, the engine fails to start again. After several attempts to start the engine it finally will start, but this has left me stalled at intersections on several occasions for up to 2 minutes. Honda has stated that this is a known issue with no known fix which is distressing and unacceptable.
Keyless Start System Problem. Only 52000 miles on car
When stopped at a red light the idle-stop initiates and engine shuts down. Upon release of the brake peddle the engine does not start leaving you stranded at a green light or even worse in the middle of the intersection waiting to make a left turn. I have to turn off the car completely and then try to restart it. It never happens when I disable the idle stop. I have read this same problem with many other people on various forums. This must be addressed ASAP before someone gets hurt or killed. This happens at least twice a week.
The vehicle has a keyless remote start problem that won’t go away. The keys have new batteries. Taking it to the dealer but when researching the issue there are several people experiencing this same problem with no way to fix the issue. This should be a recall If Pilots are getting this error message.
My 2016 Honda Pilot Touring randomly completely shuts off at traffic lights rather than restart in the automatic shut off. It displays "Shift to Park" on the dash. This has been occurring for the past 2 1/2 years and has been reported to both Honda and the dealerships with no resolution. Despite my numerous reports to both Honda and dealership, only two times have they documented as requested. The past 8 months it has been occurring more frequently and has become increasingly difficult to restart. The past two times, I have been in a location with high speed limits so traffic approaching from the rear was coming at high speeds. The first of these recent incidents, it took 6 attempts to restart the vehicle and the second time I lost count. These situations were terrifying to the point I am no longer wanting to keep this vehicle. I can't help but consider if I have children in the back and am rear ended. The dealer has repeatedly told me there are no codes, so they can't identify the source of the issue. Interestingly, I purchased this vehicle when it was 18 months old and the switch for the auto shutoff was missing. The dealership replaced it, but now I am wondering if the previous owner was experiencing this same problem and had it removed.
I have a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite and have been experiencing some issues with the Auto Engine Idle Shut Off for the past few years. Whenever the car is stopped either at a light or in a traffic on road, highway exit ramps, the auto engine idle feature shuts of the car upon pressing the breaks fully. However once the break is released the car get stalled by automatically switching the car to Neutral with message on the screen asking to put the car in Park mode. A number of warning messages show up on the center console as well. Things like, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Brake System warnings start displaying. Once car is put in the park mode, it says press break and start button to start the car but car will NOT start for about 30 seconds to 1 minutes. This stalling creates extremely dangerous situation when you are on busy road with a risk of getting hit from behind. I have taken several videos of this incidence happening and shown it to dealership who has taken a stand as they can't fix the issue as they are unable to replicate. I have taken car multiple times to dealership for this issue and also reported the issue to Honda as well however I have been told that they cannot replicate the issue and thus unable to fix it. Unless the car is used like a daily driver I am afraid they will never be able to reproduce the issue and this creates a big safety hazard for me and my family. Stalling car in middle of road has left us in panic situation multiple times and it also possesses inherent risk to others driving on the road especially during night time . After googling about this issue I have noticed many other people having the same issue. Honda needs to make recall on these cars and MUST get this rectified immediately. Please note my car still has extended warranty and Honda has not been able to identify and fix the issue. I request you to look into this and many others who possibly have reported same issue.
The first issue is when the car is stopped and the auto engine idle is on, when I lift the brake to press the accelerator, the car shuts off the engine completely, puts itself in Neutral or Park, and requires me to put the car in Park (if not there already) and restart (press brake and ignition button). So when I’m at a red light that turns green, when I attempt to go by lifting the brake my engine quits. It occurs when I take my foot off the brake after having been at a stop with the auto-engine idle on. Engine shuts off, the car puts itself in either Neutral or Park, and I have to restart after 30 seconds to a minute (including a prayer to not be rear-ended in the meantime). Sometimes, I can get the engine to start up again within 30 seconds. Sometimes, it's been more than a minute. A number of warning messages show up on the center console as well. Things like, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Brake System warnings start displaying. I’ve had the dealer look at the car and they can’t find anything wrong with it. This has been happening for months and the dealer ended up putting a new fuel injector on to see if that would fix it but it hasn’t. I am very concerned for myself, my kids and my family who ride in this car. I’ve been in some scary situations at red lights where I couldn’t go. I pray this doesn’t happen on railroad tracks!!!
Having issues with the auto idle function. Car is stalling out when car Is stopped for more than two to three seconds. Doesn't matter if the auto idle function is engaged or turned off. This has become very dangerous as I have been almost hit twice. The car losses power, no steering or anything else. Car has to be shut off and on numerous times to restart. I am seeing post that I am not the only one with this issue. Seems to be an ongoing problem with Honda pilot of multiple years and models. No one seems to have a fix for this. I no longer am driving this vehicle as it is not safe.
When starting the vehicle, the vehicle doesn't immediately start when pressing the start button. When the vehicle starts, a message appears on the dash saying keyless start system problem. No information has been received from Honda about this problem, but a Honda recall service bulletin related to 2016-2017 Honda Pilots was found online. The recall bulletin is dated December 9, 2020. The vehicle has not been inspected at this time. The indicator message first appeared on the dash five days ago and it appeared again today.
The Keyless Start Power Assistance Error Light keeps displaying after my auto lock feature failed. There is a forum of other 2016 Pilots of many owners experiencing the same thing. Today I found myself unable to start my car with every message failure displaying. When help arrived they found a bad battery (unsure if related or not). After only a few hours the same error message appears again.
In the past 4 months, each time my Honda Pilot is stopped at a light or in slow traffic, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine. In order for the engine to turn back on, we have to put our foot on the brake, place car in park, and push the start button to get it to start again. Each time we have taken it to the dealer or a car repair shop, they test the battery and it is fine. While we have not had an accident yet, we have come close due to cars behind us not knowing our vehicle is having an issue. The most recent time occurred in a toll booth line leaving NYC with a line of traffic behind us. Another issue we have experienced is with our fuel injector. Our Pilot was manufactured when there were known failures with fuel injectors. The fuel injector malfunctioned while driving with our three kids down a hill. The car lost power and we had to coast down a hill. Thankfully, an exit was nearby and we were able to come to a stop. Vehicle was serviced at a local dealer. Although there were know issues with fuel injectors, we still had to pay for the replacement and the vehicle's manufacturers warranty was still valid.
The vehicle is starting itself in accessory mode. It is completely off, no one around, no one touching the key fobs, and it will just try to start itself. Because no one is inside of the car pressing the brake, it just defaults to accessory mode. The vehicle is just turning itself on by itself. When the vehicle is locked, this triggers the alarm.
AUTO RESTART HAS TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF AT A STOPLIGHT AND THEN NOT RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND PUT THE DRIVETRAIN INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW. ALSO THE CAR SHIFTS INTO GEARS THAT EITHER SLOW MY CAR UP WHEN IM TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND SPEEDING MY VEHICLE UP WHEN BRAKING.
Mileage: 70,000
MY CAR WAS "STALL OUT" AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN WHEN I WAS IN "AUTO IDLE-STOP" AND PRESSED ON THE GAS. I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WAS HESITATING WHEN IT WOULD START UP. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WOULD "CUT OUT". AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST STALL OUT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH PARK, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUSH START. THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT WHEN YOU ARE AT A STOP LIGHT OR GETTING READY TO MAKE A TURN AND THE VEHICLE JUST "DIES". TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A SOFTWARE ADJUSTMENT. THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, THEN STARTED HESITATING AND NOW IT INTERMITTENTLY STALLS WHEN THE GAS IS PRESSED.
Mileage: 41,302
THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO SHUT OFF AND RESTART FEATURE. THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AT A STOPLIGHT OR IN A PARKING LOT AND THEN DOES NOT RESTART AUTOMATICALLY AS IT SHOULD. THE VEHICLE MUST BE POWERED OFF AND ON MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY SENSOR OR SOME THING. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP HAS PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION EXCEPT IT'S A BATTERY ISSUE WHICH IT IS NOT CONNECTED AS WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY. I AM CONCERNED THAT WHEN I AM IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT IF I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO PRESS THE BUTTON TO DISENGAGE THE AUTO RESTART THEN I'LL BE STRANDED WHILE TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR. IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT THE LAST 18 MONTHS.

MY 2016 HONDA PILOT CATCH FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING 3/21/21 I BOUGHT THIS CAR 11/19 FROM HUNTINGTON HONDA
WHEN I'M PUSHING THE START BUTTON TO TURN THE ENGINE, AN ERROR OCCURRED IN THE DASHBOARD 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' MY MILEAGE IS 37991. THE DEALER DIDN'T FIND ANY ISSUE, THEY RUN VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC AND I CHANGE MY BATTERY OF MY KEY. IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE? OR A COMPUTER PROGRAM THAT NEEDS UPDATING..PLEASE HELP ME. THANKS HOW TO FIX.
THE PUSH START BUTTON DOES NOT WORK, IT IS GIVING ME AN ERROR 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. I CHANGED THE KEY FOB'S BATTERY TO A BRAND NEW BATTERY AND IT IS NOT THE KEY FOB WITH ISSUES, IT IS THE BUTTON ITSELF. I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING THE BREAK AND THE START BUTTON TO GET THE CAR TO START WORKING. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE, I HAVE TO PRESS THE START BUTTON LIKE A TOY.

WE HAVE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH OUR AUTO-IDLE FEATURE MALFUNCTIONING THAT BEGAN AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES. I HAVE WRITTEN A COMPLAINT HERE BEFORE, AS HAVE MANY OTHER 2016 PILOT OWNERS, HOWEVER NOTHING APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN DONE TO DATE. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY FEATURE WHEN THE AUTO-IDLE IS ENGAGED, FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, OFTEN TIMES NOT STARTING BACK UP WITHOUT A JUMP START. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, WARNING LIGHTS FLASH ALL OVER THE DASH AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU TRY THE CAR WILL NOT START BACK UP.THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WITH OUR 2 DAUGHTERS NUMEROUS TIMES. FORTUNATELY, THERE HASN'T BEEN AN ACCIDENT, BUT MY GREATEST FEAR IS ONE TIME THERE WILL BE. NATURALLY THIS ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, REPLACED THE START/STOP SWITCH, CLEANED OUT MULTIPLE ERROR CODES. NOTHING HAS PROVIDED A PERMANENT FIX. WE JUST HAD TO HAVE OUR TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 70,000 MILES! THE PROBLEM REARED IT'S HEAD AGAIN TODAY. THIS TIME MY WIFE HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE, THE GAS PEDAL (BOTH WITH ALL HER MIGHT) AND PRESS THE START/STOP BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME. SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT. I'M CONVINCED WE HAVE A LEMON, HOWEVER THE DEALER SEEMS TO THINK WE DON'T HAVE A CASE FOR THAT. HONDA HAS TO STEP IN AND TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY 2016 PILOT OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE FOR HONDA NOT TO REALIZE THE VALID SAFETY CONCERN WE ALL HAVE. TAKE A LOOK AT PILOTEERS.ORG AND YOU WILL FIND A RIDICULOUSLY LONG LIST OF FRUSTRATED 2016 PILOT OWNERS ALL STRUGGLING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM URGING YOU TO TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR THE SAFETY FEATURES, HOWEVER "SAFE" ISN'T SOMETHING I FEEL KNOWING MY WIFE AND DAUGHTERS ARE IN THIS VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY.

PERSISTENT KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM AND AUTO LOCK FEATURE HAS STOPPED WORKING.
Mileage: 85,000
PROBLEM WITH THE AUTO STOP/START FEATURE- THE ENGINE STOPS BUT DOESN'T ALWAYS START . IT TRIES TO START BUT DOESN'T. PRESSING THE START BUTTON (IGNITION) DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK RIGHT AWAY. SEAMS YOU HAVE TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, AND PRESS THE START BUTTON (SOMETIMES 4-5 TIMES) BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS. THIS IS NERVE RACKING AND DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC- SAY AT A LIGHT, OR TRYING TO CROSS OVER ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TIME IS TAKES SOMETIMES TO RE-START THE ENGINE IS ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. (DOESN'T ALWAYS HAPPEN). IT'S NOT THE BATTERY. I HAD A NEW BATTERY REPLACEMENT. I ALSO TRIED USING A TRICKLE CHARGER TO "TOP OFF" THE BATTERY INCASE IT WASN'T FULLY CHARGED. NO LUCK.
Mileage: 56,000
I HAVE TAKEN MY 2016 HONDA PILOT 3 TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CANT FIGURED OUT WHY THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT IS COMING ON. THEY REPLACED THE STARTED AND ALSO THE BATTERY BECAUSE SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRICAL IS BAD.
THE ERROR MESSAGE 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' APPEARS ON MY DASHBOARD. I KEPT REALLY THE HONDA SERVIXE TECHNICIAN AND THEY TOLD ME THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. BUT IT DOESN'T GO AWAY. IT KEEPS COMING BACK.

WHEN I PUSH THE KEYLESS START/STOP BUTTON I GET AN ERROR THAT READS KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO. AT FIRST THE ERROR ONLY APPEARED EVERY NOW AND THEN. NOW IT APPEARS ALMOST ALL THE TIME. I HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON, SOMETIMES 8 TIMES TO GET THE CAR TO START. NOW WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON TO SHUT OFF THE CAR, SOMETIMES IT WON'T SHUT OFF THE CAR. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON 2 OR 3 TIMES. THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. FROM THE BLOGS I READ, HONDA CHARGES UNREASONABLE AMOUNTS TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM AND OFTEN IT IS NOT RESOLVED. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN THIS PROBLEM RESOLVES. WHEN I GET IT TO START THE ERROR MESSAGE REMAINS WHILE DRIVING IT.
Mileage: 45,000
THE ' KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' ALERT KEEPS APPEARING ON MY SCREEN WHEN I START THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS 90% OF THE TIME . BOTH KEYS HAVE NEW BATTERIES . NOTHING APPEARS TO BE WRONG. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MONTHS. SOMETIMES IF I START AND TURN IT OFF REPEATEDLY IT GOES AWAY.

KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR AT 33000 MILES. ALL HONDA PILOT OWNERS ARE FACING THE SAME ISSUE AT 30K+ MILES.
AT A STOP LIGHT MY AUTO IDLE-OFF IS ENGAGED (ENGINE GOES OFF), BUT WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESTART AND ENGINE GOES INTO NEUTRAL. I NEEDED TO TURN THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND THEN RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS CARS ARE EXPECTING ME TO MOVE. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED!

THE LIGHTS GO OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN RETURN. HAVE SPENT $250 IN DIAGNOSTICS AND NOTHING IS FIXED. REPLACED BATTERIES IN BOTH KEY FOBS. ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND SAYS EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM. KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. EVERYTHING WORKS AND RUNS FINE BUT THESE LIGHTS SAY ON MY DASH. THEREFORE IT IS AN ISSUE FOR ME TO RENEW MY INSPECTION STICKER. I DON'T FEEL LIKE THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE OTHER THAN THESE LIGHTS STAYING ON. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR LIKE THIS FOR OVER A YEAR NOW.
WHEN I START MY CAR, I GET "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" ERROR ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS ERROR COMES SOMETIMES AND THEN GOES AWAY FOR DAYS AND THEN COMES BACK. SHOWED IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I SEE LOT OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ERROR ON HONDA FORUMS. THE CAR FUNCTIONS PROPERLY OTHERWISE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AND IF THERE IS ANY MAJOR PROBLEM WITH IT.
INTERMITTENTLY RECEIVE DASH ERROR CODE "'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ' " IT COMES AND GOES. ALSO VEHICLE STRUGGLES TO RESTART WHEN THE A ENGINE IDLE ENGAGES AT A STOP LIGHT. THIS HAS CREATED SAFETY ISSUES IN THE WINTER WHEN I CAN'T GO AT A GREEN LIGHT OR OTHERS AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION AND MY VEHICLE WON'T START. THERE IS NO WAY TO FULLY DEACTIVATE THIS FEATURE EXCEPT TO SHUT IT OFF AFTER TURNING IN CAR EVERY TIME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SERIOUSLY NEED TO BE ADDRESSED.

I HAVE A 2016 TOURING MODEL. I PURCHASED IT USED FROM GLADSTONE HONDA (NOW SWICKARD) IN 2017. IN 2018 MY BATTERY SUDDENLY DIED DURING ERRANDS. I HAD THE CAR JUMPED AND REPLACED THE BATTERY FROM A LOCAL AUTO SUPPLY STORE. LAST YEAR, WE STARTED HEARING AN OCCASIONAL WEIRD CLICKING DURING IDLE-STOP. NOW, THIS YEAR, WHEN IN IDLE-STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT, OFTEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF, SLIPS INTO PARK MODE, FLASHES ERROR MESSAGES AND WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY START AGAIN WHEN PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON. SOMETIMES, I HAVE BEEN ON A HILL AND THE CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS. THERE IS NO WAY TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THIS FEATURE, SO UNLESS YOU REMEMBER TO DISABLE IT EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR, THE SAFETY MALFUNCTION REPEATS ITSELF. IT'S TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS.

CAR STALLED WHILE AT TRAFFIC LIGHT AND DID NOT RESTART. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AS CAR WAS STOPPED IN TWO WAY TRAFFIC AT A BUSY 4-WAY INTERSECTION. CAR COULD NOT BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL (OR ANY GEAR) TO BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC. DASH INDICATED ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING TO SWITCH GEARS, SO ENGINE CLEARLY CUT OUT. DASH ALSO INDICATED TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSH START BUTTON TO RESTART BUT THIS WOULD NOT WORK. ATTEMPTED MANY TIMES. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET CAR INTO ACCESSORY MODE. SUBSEQUENTLY, DEPRESSED BRAKE AND PRESSED START BUTTON AND ENGINE FINALLY RESTARTED. *LN*JB

FOR AT LEAST THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF I KEEP GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT SAYS, KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERIES IN MY FOB BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE THAT WOULD CREATE THIS MESSAGE. DURING THE LAST MONTH I HAVE NOTICED MY CAR IS NOT STARTING UP IMMEDIATELY LIKE IT USED TO WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE START/STOP ENGINE BUTTON.I HAVE TO PRESS IT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CAR WILL START. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I WAS TRYING TO START IT TO LEAVE FOR WORK.
I HAVE HAD 2 PROBLEMS SHOW UP ON THE DASHBOARD FOR MY VEHICLE. AS FOLLOWS: 1) EMISSIONS SYSTEMS PROBLEM 2) KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM MY DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE NORMAL. I KEEP MY VEHICLE MAINTAINED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. I WANT TO REPORT THESE 2 SAFETY PROBLEMS SINCE I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD NOT APPEAR FOR A VEHICLE AT THIS MILEAGE. THANK YOU

I WAS DRIVING ON A DUAL TWO LANE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH. AT A CROSS ROAD A TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS RED, AND I STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE AUTOMATIC IDLE STOP SHUT OFF THE ENGINE FOR 1/2 TO 1 MINUTE, BEFORE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK, THE CAR SHOULD HAVE STARTED, BUT IT DIDN'T.. MANY OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON, THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE CARS AROUND ME MOVED FORWARD AND SEVERAL HONKED, BECAUSE I WASN'T MOVING. OTHER CARS WERE APPROACH ME FROM BEHIND AT SPEED. I TRIED TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTART IT. NOTHING HAPPENED BECAUSE THE SHIFT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I EXITED THE CAR AND PUSHED IT TO THE RIGHT TURN LANE JUST AHEAD AND PUSHED THE BRAKE TO STOP ONCE I WAS OUT OF THE DRIVING LANE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND TRIED TO START THE ENGINE 2 OR 3 TIMES BEFORE THE STARTER TURNED THE ENGINE OVER. SEVERAL CARS WENT BY AT SPEED, AND LUCKILY NO ONE WANTED TO TURN RIGHT. THE CAR IS JUST OVER 5 YEARS OLD AND I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH ITS OPERATION WITH THE AUTOMATIC IDLE STOP FEATURE, BUT THIS TIME IT SURPRISED ME. I HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY AFTER 2.5 YEARS OF DRIVING, AND IT IS ONLY 1 YEAR AND 10 MONTHS SINCE IT WAS REPLACED. I HAVE READ ANECDOTAL ACCOUNTS OF SIMILAR INCIDENCES BY OTHER 2016 PILOT OWNERS WHO HAD NO REASON FOR THE INCIDENT. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS THAT DAY, BECAUSE I CANCELLED THE IDLE STOP FEATURE FOR THE TRIP HOME. I FEEL I COULD EASILY HAVE BECOME A STATISTIC ALONG WITH MY WIFE HAD THE TRAFFIC BEEN MODERATELY GREATER THAT EVENING. OTHER HAVE REGISTERED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE. I AM HAVING THE BATTERY REPLACE TOMORROW, EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER HASN'T YET EVALUATED ITS CONDITION.

FOR HONDA PILOT 2016 , THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION THAT CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO OVERHEAT. THE OVERHEATING ISSUE LEADS TO A 'JUDDER' IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ACCELERATES IN A VERY JERKY WAY ESPECIALLY BETWEEN 30 AND 50. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PASS SOMEONE. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE REACHES 80,000 MILES HONDA WILL NO LONGER COVER THE SO-CALLED 'REPAIR' WHICH IS TO FLUSH THE BURNT TRANSMISSION OIL MULTIPLE TIMES. HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR

CAR STALLS AND DOES NOT RESTART. CAR HAS AUTO IDLE STOP FEATURE. WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR COMPLETELY DIES AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED. NO EMERGENCY LIGHT, NO LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD, CANNOT LOCK CAR, CANNOT PUT INTO NEUTRAL, MUST BE TOWED. CAR FIRST STARTED STOPPING AT STOP LIGHTS IN CITY STREETS IN 2017. WOULD TAKE A FEW ATTEMPTS TO RESTART. BROUGHT TO DEALER TO STATE MY CONCERN THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE FREEWAY AND THEY CHECKED AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON 3/19/20, DRIVING IN THE FREEWAY, I HAD TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC. CAR DIED COMPLETELY. I COULDN'T EVEN TURN ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHT. I HAD TO OPEN MY DOOR A LITTLE BIT, STICK MY ARM OUT AND WAVE FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. SEMI TRUCKS WERE QUICKLY CHANGING LANES TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME. IT WAS THE MOST FRIGHTENING INCIDENT THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A TRANSMISSION SENSOR ERROR AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT. 4/2/20 AS MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. WE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE EXIT WHEN THE CAR JUST STALLED. AGAIN TOTALLY DEAD. IT'S JUST A PARKED CAR THAT CANNOT BE RESTARTED. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. THE DEALER'S ATTEMPTS TO FIX IT DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER WAS CLOSED WHEN WE DROPPED IT OFF TONIGHT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR JUST DIES AND WILL NOT RESTART. THERE IS NOT EVEN A WAY TO TURN ON THE EMERGENCY BLINKING LIGHTS TO ALERT OTHER MOTORISTS OF A STALLED CAR. HAD THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN THE DARK, MY DAUGHTER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.

I REPLACED AND ALL BATTERIES OF THE FOB AND RESET EVERY THING TO THE FACTORY SETTING, BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS AND THE WALK AWAY AUTO LOCK IS ALSO NO LONGER FUNCTIONING AFTER THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED.

KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM
Mileage: 54,000
KEYLESS REMOTE SYSTEM ISSUE, APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AFTER 36,000 MILES. I'M UNSURE IF THE ERROR WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR MAKE IT JUST NOT START WHEN I TRY TO START IT. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED VIA A RECALL IF THE ISSUE IS THIS COMMON. THERE IS NO OPTION WITH THIS VEHICLE TO ACTUALLY USE A KEY TO START IT, IT IS ALL REMOTE.
SUDDENLY RECEIVING A 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' ERROR MESSAGE. I HAD PARKED ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET IN 70 DEGREE WEATHER AT SUNSET AND THE NEXT TIME I GOT INTO MY CAR, THERE WAS THE ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TURNED IT ON.
Mileage: 65,810
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES BUT THE MOST PRESSING IS THAT THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY STOP RESPONDING UNDER ACCELERATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ONCE VERY NEARLY CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT WITH A BIG RIG WHILST WE WERE ENTERING A FREEWAY. THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE THE GAUGES SEEM TO RESET AND THEN THE CAR WILL GO. SIMILAR TO HOW THE AUTO STOP IDLE FUNCTION WORKS EXCEPT WE WERE NOT STOPPED WE WERE UNDER ACCELERATION. WE HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER THE IDLE STOP HAS ACTIVATED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT FORCING US TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTART IT. WE HAVE TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE AND ASSURE US THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE... BEYOND THE PROBLEMS LISTED ABOVE THE CAR FREQUENTLY HAS ELECTRICAL SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE AUTO BRAKE AND COLLISION DETECTION, I CANT EVEN COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT THE CAR HAS SUDDENLY BRAKED OUT OF NO WHERE, NO OBSTACLES OR ANYTHING TO TRIGGER IT, JUST DECIDES WE NEED TO BRAKE. THESE "SAFETY FEATURES" SHOULD REALLY BE REVIEWED AND TESTED BETTER BEFORE BEING PUT INTO A PRODUCTION VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 EXL HONDA PILOT AWD, IT BEGAN DISPLAYING MULTIPLE CODES SUCH AS HILL START ASSIST, ROAD DEPARTURE, EMISSIONS SYSTEM, POWER STEERING, AND, TSA. I TOOK IT RIGHT AWAY TO A NEARBY AUTO ZONE AND THE CODE THEY GAVE ME WAS P0304 CYLINDER MISFIRE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO HENDRICK HONDA THE CODES WERE NO LONGER FLASHING. BUT THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND PERFORMED REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR AND I INFORMED THAT THEIR WAS A $1,500 REPAIR CHARGE FOR FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I FOUND OUT THAT THEIR WAS SERVICE BULLETIN 18-025. THIS SERVICE STATES THAT THE PROBABLE CAUSE IS DEBRIS FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP OR THE FUEL INCEPTOR MACHINING PROCESS CAN CAUSE INTERVAL WEAR OR CLOGGING INSIDE THE INJECTOR WHICH REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. A FAILING FUEL INJECTOR COULD LEAVE US STRANDED OR STALL OUT ON A HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, IT LOWERS GAS MILEAGE, INCREASES EMISSIONS, AND CAN LEAD TO A HOST OF OTHER DANGEROUS FAILURES IN YOUR VEHICLE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT HONDA WILL BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THEIR FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS.

FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS MY CAR SOMETIMES SAYS KEY REMOTE PROBLEM WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON TO START IT. I HAVE 46000 MILES ON IT.

AN ERROR STATING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD. I ALSO NOTED THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ROUGHLY WHEN IT SHIFTED INTO HIGHER GEARS. A SECOND ERROR MESSAGE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, STATING "EMMISIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM" MY MECHANIC FOLLOWED THE HONDA TROUBLESHOOT RECOMMENDATION INSTRUCTION SHEET, AND REMOVED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE, BUT TWO DAYS LATER THE ERRORS REAPPEARED. UPON TAKING THE CAR TO HONDA'S SERVICE CENTER, I WAS TOLD THE FUEL EMMISION PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED AND IS COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY, BUT THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED (AS MY CAR HAS 54,000 MILES AND THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY/36,000 MILES DOES NOT APPLY). THE REPAIRS WILL NOW COST OVER $350 TO REPLACE THE COMPONENTS, PLUS LABOR. THERE ARE MANY POSTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM... SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.
Mileage: 54,217
I'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES INCLUDING FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS, FAULTY COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, FAULTY HOMELINK TRANSMITTER, AUDIO BLUETOOTH THAT RESETS ON ITS OWN AND NOW THE LATEST ONE IS A KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, I CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR SENSE SOMETHING IN FRONT (WHERE THERE IS NOTHING) AND IT BREAKS, ALSO DRIVING IN HIGHWAY OR ABOVE 50 AND TRY TO PRESS BREAKS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 36K MILES AND ALL THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED SINCE 34K MILES.
MOONROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND THERE WERE NO CHIPS. THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND GLASS STARTED FALLING DOWN FROM THE MOONROOF. WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE GOTTEN HURT. MY CHILDREN HAD GLASS ALL OVER THEIR CAR SEATS.

INTERMITTENT 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. IT'S VERY CONCERNING AND WHENEVER I BRING MY CAR TO THE SHOP THEY SEEM TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUES BEFORE. CAR WORKS, BUT IT IS SCARY TO WONDER IF MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY TURN OFF OR NOT TURN ON. PLEASE HAVE THIS INVESTIGATED.

RIGHT BEFORE IT'S TURNED ON AND WHILE DRIVING. I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE SAYING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM". THEN VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES NOT TURN ON RANDOMLY. PREVIOUS COMPLAINT NHTSA ID 11111894 SUBMITTED 7/17/18. FOR CAR STALLING AFTER ENTERING INTO AUTO IDLE STOP. REPLACED BATTERY IN AUGUST 2018 AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 TIMES NOW IN SEPT. AND OCT 2019.. AT FIRST, RADIO OR DVD PLAYER WOULD CUT OUT BUT HAS PROGRESSED TO FULL ON STALLING AFTER ENTERING AUTO IDLE STOP. SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE AND ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS. AFTER CAR GOES INTO IDLE STOP, IT DOES NOT RESTART AFTER TAKE FOOT OFF BRAKE. HAVE TO PUT CAR IN PARK, PRESS BRAKE, AND PUSH START BUTTON TO GET IT TO RESTART. CAN TAKE SEVERAL TRIES AND SEVERAL MINUTES.
Mileage: 67,000
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO ENGINE IDLE FEATURE THAT IDLES THE ENGINE WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE IDLE COINCIDES WITH THE MOMENT THAT YOU WOULD ACCELERATE TO CONTINUE GOING FORWARD, AND THE ENGINE STALLS COMPLETELY. THIS REQUIRES THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN AND RESTART. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AFTER I HAVE STARTED TO ACCELERATE WITH PEOPLE BEHIND ME. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAVE NOT STARTED TO ACCELERATE THEMSELVES OR OTHERWISE THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE ANYWHERE THE VEHICLE IS REQUIRED TO STOP AND GO, SUCH AS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN.

ON OCTOBER 24, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 AM CST. ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE I-80. WAS IN THE LEFT LANE PASSING VEHICLE IN RIGHT LANE. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS AHEAD OF MINE. TAPPED THE BRAKES TO SLOW A BIT AS VEHICLE IN FRONT WAS MERGING RIGHT AFTER PASSING. HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE WAS LOST FOR ABOUT 1.5 - 2 SECONDS. TACHOMETER DROPPED TO 0. TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THEN RE-ENGAGED. POWER TO ENGINE CAME BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATIONS. AUTO ENGINE ON/OFF FEATURE WAS DISABLED. REGULAR CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, HAD BEEN SET BUT WASN'T CURRENTLY ENGAGED. PARKING SENSORS WERE ON. LANE DEPARTURE WAS OFF. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING ON. NO OTHER ISSUES FOR THE REST OF THE 1300 MILE (ROUND) TRIP. WE HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. FIRST TIME WAS NOT REPORTED OR DOCUMENTED. IF ENGINE/POWER HADN'T BEEN RESTORED, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS CANNOT BE NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS HONDA AND NHTSA.

SOME OWNERS CAN'T START THEIR CAR AND THE HONDA DEALER HAS NO ANSWER. THEY CHARGE YOU ABOUT 200 TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE.

AT ~30K MILES, THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PERIODICALLY FAILS - ISSUING A WARNING (AUDIBLE & VISUAL) WHEN STARTING/TURNING OFF THE CAR. THE VISUAL WARNING PERSIST WHILE DRIVING. THIS SYSTEM ALSO RESULTS IN A FAILURE OF THE WALK-AWAY LOCK FEATURE. THE ISSUE ISN'T APPARENTLY TIED TO THE CAR'S BATTERY OR THE KEY FOB. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO WHEN THIS ISSUE WILL OCCUR.

I KEEP GETTING 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' ERROR WHEN I PUSH START MY ENGINE. THE CAR STILL DRIVES BUT I AM WORRIED IT WILL NOT DETECT THE KEY AND STOP DRIVING ONE OF THESE DAYS WITHOUT WARNING OR ENGINE WON'T START WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I HAVE CHANGED BATTERY FOR MY KEY, IT DOES THIS TO BOTH OF MY CAR KEYS, AND IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT MORE THAN HALF OF THE TIME I START THE ENGINE. UPON INVESTIGATING ONLINE FORUMS, OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE TRIED TO FIX IT BY GOING TO DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE INTERNAL UNITS, CHANGING CAR BATTERY, RESETTING THE INTERNAL UNIT, CHANGING THE PUSH START BUTTON, ETC., BUT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. SO I AM HESITANT TO SPEND MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT WON'T BE FIXED. I MADE APPOINTMENT TO FIX IT DEALERSHIP AND THAT WHOLE DAY THE ERROR MESSAGE DID NOT POP UP, BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY IT CAME BACK. I HOPE THIS ISN'T SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUE...

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AS A "CERTIFIED PRE OWNED BY HONDA" AND FOUR DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, IN "PARK" WHEN I HIT THE START/STOP ENGINE BUTTON AND THE VEHICLE DIDN'T START. ALARMS STARTED TO GO OFF SO I ASSUMED IT WAS THE KEY WAS STILL INSIDE THE HOUSE. AS I WENT INSIDE TO CHECK, MAYBE A FEW SECONDS, WHEN I WENT BACK OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS GONE. I FOUND IT IN MY FRONT YARD. IT HAD ROLLED OFF WHILE IN PARK WITHOUT ENGINE ON. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED TO HONDA, DAYS LATER I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE START/STOP ENGINE SYSTEM AND THAT IT ALSO NEEDED THE ENTIRE A/C SYSTEM REPLACED. ATTACHED YOU WILL FIND THE PHOTO I TOOK OF THE VEHICLE STILL IN PARK WHEN I FOUND IT IN MY FRONT YARD.

MY CAR KEEPS DISPLAYING 'KEY START SYSTEM PROBLEM' IT COMES ON AND OFF. SOMETIMES FOR A WEEK OR JUST A FEW DAYS. I HAVE NOW TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY IT COMES ON THEN TURNS OFF. THIS LAST TIME LASTED A WEEK AND IT FELT LIKE MY CAR WAS STRUGGLING TO MOVE WHEN I ACCELERATED. THIS IS CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA PILOTS. I CHECKED ONLINE AND OTHER CUSTOMERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, THEY TRIED REPLACING THE PUSH TO START BUTTON, KEY BATTERIES AND THE HARNESS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I START MY CAR ONLY, I HAVE NOT MADE ANY ALTERATIONS TO MY VEHICLE. I JUST GOT MY CAR IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR.
WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY EMPLOYER'S PARKING LOT, THE REAR/BACK WINDOW SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. AFTER RESEARCHING, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING EXTREMELY WARM TEMPERATURES LATELY SO I AM NOT SURE IF THAT IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. EITHER WAY IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO COME OUT TO YOUR VEHICLE AND NOT HAVE A REAR WINDOW.

MY SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED TODAY WHILE WAITING TO EXIT A PARKING LOT. THE SUNSHADE WAS CLOSED SO NO GLASS SHARDS FELL INTO THE CAR. WE WERE MOVING AT OR UNDER 5MPH ON LEVEL GROUND. THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE HIGH 80S WITH CLEAR SKIES AND BRIGHT SUN HERE IN ROCKLAND COUNTY NY, TODAY JULY 7TH 2019. THE GLASS WAS NOT STRUCK BY A STONE OR DEBRIS, THIS WAS MOST LIKELY A DEFECT IN THE GLASS.

THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR HAS COME ON RECENTLY AND GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOBS AND THE ERROR STILL COMES UP. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I HAVE LEARNED THAT SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IN A LOT OF CASES THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN DURING OPERATION DUE TO THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT COULD LEAD TO GREAT BODILY INJURY AND /OR DEATH. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND AND REMEDIED. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THROUGH NHTSA ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM.

MY 2016 HONDA PILOT HAVE BEEN POPPING UP A 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' MESSAGE . IT HAPPENED ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. IT'S SOMETIMES WILL GO AWAY AND COME BACK THE NEXT DAY. IT'S ON AND OFF. KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR ... IT'S SHOWING UP ON & OFF FOR PAST FEW MONTHS NOW...I SEE IT'S HAPPENING ALOT OF THE 2016 HONDA PILOT YET NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE....IT'S HAPPENING WHEN THE CAR HAS PASTED IT'S WARRANTY PERIOD
A FEW WEEKS AGO MY 2016 HONDA PILOT SUNROOF SHATTERED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON AN OPEN HIGHWAY AND THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND. NOTHING HIT THE SUNROOF, BUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING I HEARD TWO LOUD POP SOUNDS AND LOOKED UP AND THE SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED. I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT A HONDA DEALER, AND HONDA REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR IT AS THEY DID NOT WANT ACCEPT THE LIABILITY OF A VEHICLE FLAW. I AM CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER CARE TWICE ABOUT THIS TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THIS AND WHETHER THEY THOUGHT THERE IS A RISK FOR THIS HAPPENING AGAIN, AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T OFFER ANY INSIGHT ON THIS. I AM CONCERNED FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT AS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN AND HURT ONE OF MY CHILDREN. THIS VEHICLE FLAW COULD HAVE LED TO SERIOUS INJURY. I DID A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH OF THE PROBLEM AND FOUND SEVERAL ARTICLES ON THIS TOPIC (SUCH AS THIS ONE: HTTPS://WWW.CONSUMERREPORTS.ORG/CAR-SAFETY/EXPLODING-SUNROOF-CASES-HEAD-TO-COURT/) . WHILE THIS IS NOT A HIGH PERCENTAGE PROBLEM, I AM NOT ALONE IN HAVING EXPERIENCED IT, AND I AM COMPLETELY CERTAIN THAT IT WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY OBJECT. THIS QUITE SIMPLY WAS A FAILURE OF THE EQUIPMENT, AND IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY EITHER FROM THE DEBRIS FALLING FROM THE SUNROOF IF I HAD THE COVER OPEN, AND/OR FROM AN ACCIDENT HAD I SWERVED FROM THE SHOCK OF THE NOISE OR DEBRIS AND THERE WERE OTHER CARS NEARBY.

AS I WAS PARKING MY CAR THIS MORNING, THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR POPPED UP. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD START, THEN TURNED IT OFF AGAIN AND THEN DROPPED OFF MY KIDS AT DAYCARE. WHEN I STARTED IT 5 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR STARTED AND RAN FINE, BUT THE SYSTEM ERROR LIGHT CONTINUES. WE RECENTLY HAD THE PILOT AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE AN EMISSION ERROR LIGHT CAME ON AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OR ACCELERATE PROPERLY. ALL THREE SENSORS WERE REPLACED (ONLY THE DAMAGED ONE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) AND THE CAR WAS AGAIN RUNNING FINE, BUT NOW THIS NEW ERROR LIGHT.

VEHICLE HAS 49000 MILES TODAY AND HAVE HAD THIS INTERMITTENT ISSUE SINCE 42000 MILES. FOB BATTERIES HAVE BOTH BEEN REPLACED AND SUPPOSEDLY REPROGRAMMED. STILL UNABLE TO RESOLVE. I HAVE 45000 MILES ON A 2016 PILOT EX. I RECENTLY BEGAN GETTING A KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR MESSAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ENGINE WILL NOT START, HAVE TO CONSTANTLY KEEP PRESSING THE START BOTTON AND STEPPING FOOT BREAK. ALSO NOTICE MY "WALK AWAY LOCK FEATURE" STOPPED WORKING. I CHECK ONLINE AND A LOT OF HONDA PILOT OWNER ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. PLEASE HELP INVESTIGATE. THANK YOU.
THIS CAR HAS ISSUES WITH THE AUTO IDLE RESTARTING. APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES OVER THE LAST 1.5 YEARS THE CAR DOES NOT RESTART AFTER ITS IDLE. IT HAS TO BE PUT INTO PARK, ENGAGE THE BRAKE AND TRY TO RESTART. THIS TAKES MULTIPLE TRIES TO GET THE CAR'S ENGINE TO START AGAIN. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. 7/8 TIMES I WAS AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT, BUT ONCE I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WITH AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME WHEN THE ENGINE WOULD NOT REENGAGE.

HAVE A KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ON MY 2016 HONDA PILOT. LIGHT IS ON FROM THE TIME YOU TURN THE VEHICLE ON. IT WILL OCCASIONALLY GO OFF BUT THEN REAPPEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED AGAIN. HAD THE KEY FOB IN MY POCKET AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT LOCK WHEN THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR WAS PRESSED. HAD TO USE THE REMOTE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE. NEED TO HAVE THE KEYLESS ACCESS REPLACED FOR $500+ PART IS CURRENTLY ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ETA. ACCORDING TO BLOGS OTHER PILOT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE COULD THIS BE WHY THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ETA?? OVERALL NOT HAPPY WITH THE VEHICLE. HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES.
WHILE DRIVING CAR, THE PANEL WILL SHOW "KEY FOB NOT DETECTED". WHEN A DOOR IS OPENED, IT WILL BEEP AND DISPLAY "KEY FOB NOT DETECTED"

DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE FLICKERING. THIS EVENING TRIED AGAIN AND IT WORKED FINE NOW. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY CONCERN.

WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT AN APT. BUILDING AT THE SLOWEST SPEED IMAGINABLE, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ON THE BACK WINDOW ON MY 2016 HONDA PILOT CAME IN CONTACT WITH AN OVERHANG STORAGE CABINET AT THE BACK OF THE PARKING SPACE AND THE WINDOW EXPLODED. ON MY BACKUP CAMERA, IT SAID I STILL HAD ROOM TO GO BACK BUT THAT IS BECAUSE THE WINDOW PROTRUDES MORE THAN THE BACKUP CAMERA. I AM ATTACHING PHOTOS HERE AND WOULD LIKE TO NOTE HOW CONCERNING IT IS THAT THE WINDOW EXPLODED WITH SO LITTLE IMPACT ON ONLY THE WINDSHIELD WIPER. I AM PAYING NEARLY $800 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THIS BECAUSE OF A HIGH DEDUCTIBLE BUT IT'S A BIGGER WORRY TO ME THAT THE DESIGN OF THE BACK WINDOW IS SO VULNERABLE. I HAVE SEARCHED AND FOUND MANY ACCOUNTS OF WEAKNESS IN REAR WINDOWS OF HONDA PILOTS ONLINE AND WANTED TO REGISTER MINE IN THE HOPE THAT THE SAFETY OF THE DESIGN WILL BE EXAMINED. I CAN PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS.

THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON OCT 7, 2018. WE WERE AT A STOP LIGHT WITH THE ENGINE IDLE OPTION ENABLED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED, THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE STARTED BACK UP, BUT INSTEAD, IT STALLED. AFTER THE 2ND TIME IT OCCURRED, WE STARTED TO DISABLE THE ENGINE IDLE FEATURE AS SOON AS WE START THE CAR. WE HAVE FORGOTTEN A FEW TIMES AND THE VEHICLE STALLING HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES. ALL BEING AT RED LIGHTS WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED. WHEN THE FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE JERKS SLIGHTLY AND THEN STALLS. ONCE ON NOV. 1, 2018 AND AGAIN MOST RECENTLY ON JAN. 6, 2018. LUCKILY, NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED YET. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP DIRECTLY AND RECEIVED ALL MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDED. THE MOST RECENT SERVICE, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ERROR OR IDENTIFY THE ISSUE.

AUTO STOP MALFUNCTION FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE PILOT ELITE, THE AUTO STOP FUNCTION WORKED AND WOULD RESTART AFTER COMING TO A STOP. BY THE SECOND YEAR, AFTER COMING TO A STOP IN CITY TRAFFIC AND ENGINE IS SUPPOSED TO COME BACK ON, IT STALLS AND SHUTS OFF AND NEEDS TO BE SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND THEN RESTART ENGINE. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR FOR SERVICES SINCE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND REPORTING THE ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE OR REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOW INTO YEAR 3 OF OWNERSHIP THE AUTO STOP FUNCTION HAS GOTTEN WORSE BECAUSE NOW WHEN IT SHUTS OFF AFTER AUTO STOPPING, IT TAKES A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE YOU ARE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN. ONLY WAY AROUND THIS ISSUE IS TO DISABLE THE AUTO STOP FUNCTION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DRIVE WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING SUCH A FUNCTION AND WE AREN'T ABLE TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THE FUNCTION. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM EACH AND EVERY TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY HAVE RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE.

COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM (CMBS) COMPUTER OVERLOAD IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. CMBS COMPUTER SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT RESET WITHOUT TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER. DEALER REBOOTED COMPUTER FOR $62 AND ADVISED TURNING OFF CMBS BEFORE ENTERING CONSTRUCTION ZONES TO AVOID A REPEAT. TURNING OFF A SAFETY FEATURE WITH A DIFFICULT-TO-FIND SWITCH WHILE DRIVING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WOULD BE UNSAFE. DRIVING WITHOUT A SAFETY FEATURE WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE AND POTENTIALLY UNSAFE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND YET HONDA DOES NOT WARN OWNERS ABOUT IT BUT INSTEAD MAKES MONEY FROM IT.

***AUTO IDLE STOP MALFUNCTION** WHILE IN MOVING TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA, THE PILOT HAS STALLED AND EVEN POWERED OFF WHILE THE AUTO IDLE STOP FUNCTION WAS ENGAGED. THE CAR POWERED DOWN AND REQUIRED A RE-START WHICH NEEDED MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO ACTUALLY TAKE EFFECT (UP TO 20 SECONDS-MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS). THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO SOLUTION TO OFFER AND HONDA HAS NO RECALL AVAILABLE TO COVER THE ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS WHEN THE AUTO IDLE FEATURE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T "REPRODUCE" THE ISSUE WHILE IN THEIR POSSESSION SO ONLY OFFERED TO KEEP IT LONGER (TO DRIVE IT IN REAL WORLD SCENARIOS) AND ATTEMPT TO REPRODUCE THE MALFUNCTION.

ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT, MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN, AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO WITH THE 'AUTO IDLE STOP' FUNCTION. IT IS SUPPOSED TO START BACK UP WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, BUT THIS TIME THE CAR STALLED. IT STALLED MANY TIMES AFTER THIS AND IT WAS ALWAYS UNEXPECTED AND SCARY. I TOOK IT INTO MY DEALER ON JUNE 6, 2018 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD SEE THAT THEY COULD SEE IN THE COMPUTER THAT IT STALLED A FEW TIMES, BUT COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHILE TEST DRIVING IT. THEY DID A RESET ON THE ELECTRONICS. THAT DID NOTHING. I STALLED A WHILE AFTER I LEFT THE SHOP. I STALLED MANY MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. IT DOES HAVE AN OVERRIDE TO THIS 'AUTO IDLE STOP' SYSTEM, BUT YOU HAVE TO ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PUSH THE BUTTON AND IF I FORGOT AND THE CAR WAS IN 'AUTO IDLE STOP' MODE AND I PUSHED THE BUTTON, MANY TIMES THE CAR WOULD STALL. I NOW ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM STARTING THE CAR. WHEN I PUSH THE START BUTTON, MANY TIMES THE ENGINE WON'T START. I HAVE TO PUSH IT 3-4 TIMES TO GET IT TO START. THIS MAKES MY STALLING EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, AS IF IT WAS NOT DANGEROUS ENOUGH, BECAUSE IT WILL TAKE ME MUCH LONGER TO START THE CAR FROM A STALL. I CAN IMAGINE BEING IN SITUATIONS WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT A SITUATION QUICKLY AND IF I STALL I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO. IF I AM ON A FREEWAY AND STALL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, OR STALLING ON TRAIN TRACKS IF I AM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I HAPPEN TO BE THE CAR LEFT ON THE TRACKS AND CAN'T START. OR IF A CAR OR OBJECT IS HEADING TOWARDS ME AND WILL CRASH INTO ME AND I CAN AVOID IT BE SPEEDING AWAY. IF I STALL I CAN'T. HERE IS A THREAD FROM A HONDA PILOT FORUM WITH MANY OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HTTPS://WWW.PILOTEERS.ORG/FORUMS/114-2016-THIRD-GENERATION-PILOT/157005-ELITE-SHUTS-OFF-STOP-LIGHT.HTML NOT ONE OF THEM HAS HAD IT FIXED BY THERE REPAIR SHOP. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THE 2ND TIME SINCE AUGUST 8, 2018.

WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD WHEN IT CHANGES SPEED OR GEAR.
Mileage: 27,000
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN CUTTING OFF, ALL POWER INCLUDING ALL COMPUTER SCREENS/DASHBOARD/STEERING, WHICH LAST 2-5 SECONDS, THEN CUTS BACK ON. THE RPM WILL REV UP TO THE 4-6 THOUSAND RANGE AND AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NO GO OVER 45MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT 35 MPH TO 70MPH. WHILE IN PARK, ABSOLUTELY NO GEAR ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD AND BACKWARD AS THOUGH IT WAS IN GEAR. MY FOOT WILL NOT EVEN BE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WILL MOVE. LAST WEEK THE CAR WAS TURNED ON, PUT IN DRIVE, I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR, THE RPM'S WENT TO 4000 AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. I LOOKED DOWN TO MAKE SURE IT WAS IN DRIVE, WHICH IS WAS, AS I LOOKED UP THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD 2-3 FEET. THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM, LANE ASSIST LIGHT COME ON RANDOMLY. IT WILL TELL ME "STEERING REQUIRED" EVEN WHEN I AM DRIVING AND DO NOT HAVE THE LANE ASSIST ON. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS, INCLUDING "COMPUTER UPDATES", THE RADAR SENSING SYSTEM, BUT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND HAVE TOLD ME THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AT LEAST 6-7 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THE CAR IS UNSAFE, STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER TOLD ME "YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT". THIS CAR IS A HAZARD TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD. I HAVE TRIED TO DEAL WITH HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY WILL NOT RESPOND. I BELIEVE, FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL THAT HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

THE MESSAGE "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" SHOWED UP IN THE INFORMATION SCREEN ABOUT A FEW WEEKS AGO, IT WOULD COME UP INTERMITTENTLY, WHENEVER I START THE ENGINE, AND THE MESSAGE STAYS ON THE ENTIRE TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNNING. WHEN THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF, THERE WILL BE A DING, AND THE MESSAGE WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE GOING AWAY. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY HAD NOT ENCOUNTERED A MESSAGE LIKE THAT BEFORE, AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. I ALREADY HAVE OVER 42,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE, SO THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT. TODAY I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, SINCE THAT MESSAGE IS STILL SHOWING UP, AND I FINALLY HAVE THE TIME TO LEAVE IT FOR A FEW HOURS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID NOW THERE IS A CODE FOR THAT ISSUE, BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR WHATEVER REPAIRS NEEDED TO FIX THE ISSUE. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURING RECALL ISSUE, PERHAPS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, OR WITH THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM, AND THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. I'M AFRAID OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE ISSUE GETS WORSE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I GO ON VACATION, AND THE ENGINE WILL NOT START BECAUSE OF AN ERROR WITH THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM AFFECTING THE PUSH BUTTON START. AGAIN, THE MESSAGE DOES NOT COME UP EVERYTIME I DRIVE. BUT TODAY, ON 6/28/2018, I HAVE STARTED THE ENGINE A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS AROUND TOWN, WITHIN 90 MINUTES, AND THIS MESSAGE HAS SHOWN UP EVERY TIME I STARTED THE ENGINE.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH AND HEARD A BIG POP (SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT). THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE PERFECT AND THE ROAD ITSELF IS VERY SMOOTH. SO MY WIFE PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT HER SUN ROOF HAD EXPLODED. SO I ASKED IF ANYTHING HIT THE SUNROOF AND SHE SAID NO. SO I LOOKED AT THE SUN ROOF WHEN SHE GOT HOME AND IT WAS SHATTERED FROM CORNER TO CORNER. NO WAY A ROCK OR FLYING DEBRIS COULD CAUSE THAT. LUCKILY THE SUNROOF COVER WAS CLOSED, SO SHE DID NOT GET HIT WITH SHARDS OF GLASS. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY AGREED THAT IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO CAUSE THAT KIND OF DAMAGE TO THE SUN ROOF WITH A ROCK. UNFORTUNATELY, IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE "WARRANTY" AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE NEW WINDOW WHICH WAS CLOSE TO $700.

SOMETIMES THE RPM DROPS AND THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD SHIFT JERKING THE CAR FORWARD. IT HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE EVERY OTHER WEEK BUT DOESN'T LAST LONG. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN IT HAPPENS I CAN'T TAKE THE CAR IN BECAUSE I'M AT WORK AND WHEN I DO TAKE IT IN IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHEN I DRIVE. DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED I DRIVE AT. I WAS ABLE TO RECORD IT WHEN IT HAPPENED AND BROUGHT IT IN TO THE MECHANIC BUT THEY SAID IF THEY CAN'T RECREATE IT THEN IT'S NOT AN ISSUE. I'M AFRAID OF THIS BECOMING A BIGGER ISSUE CAUSING ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. HONDA WAS NO HELP. TOLD ME IF I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THEN THE INSURANCE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. HAVING KIDS, I DON'T WANT TO "WAIT" FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN BEFORE THEY DECIDE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS.

I AM EXPERIENCING WATER LEAKING BY THE PASSENGER SEAT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND I WAS EXPLAINED THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHOLE FRONT PART INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC THERE IS A SEALANT ON RUBBER BAND THAT IT UNDERNEATH THE WINDSHIELD THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED SINCE THE BAND IS REALLY TIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACE SINCE THE QUALITY OF IT IS NOT SO GOOD AS THE ONE THAT WAS USED IN THE 2014-2015 PILOTS. SO I LIVE IN A STATE WHERE IS ALWAYS RAINING AND SO THE WATER IS GETTING IN TO MY CAR, AND I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHANGE THE TOWELS AS THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR GETS SO WET IF I DO NOT USE ANYTHING TO ABSORB THE WATER. THIS FIX WILL TAKE AT LEAST 5 DAYS TO BE REPAIR AND WILL COST ME OVER $2000 TO HAVE IT REPAIR, WHEN THIS IS AN ISSUED CAUSE FOR THE BAD RUBBER QUALITY THAT HONDA USED. *TR
UNSATISFACTORY TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SINCE NEW (2-2016). LEARCHING, SEARCHING FOR GEARS, SLACK IN SHIFTING FROM STOP. HONDA SAYS ITS NORMAL. THAT INSULTS MY INTELLIGENCE. POOR DESIGN AND FAILURE TO ADMIT THERE IS AN ISSUE. LESS THAN 17,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AS OF THIS DATE (1-23-2018)
1. I AM GETTING STATIC ON THE RADIO, THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT SOLVING THIS ISSUE COMPLETELY. I KNOW BY TURNING ON AND OFF THE CAR IT WILL RESOLVE IT FOR AN AMOUNT OF TIME AND IT COMES BACK. I KNOW BY ADDING AIR IT WILL RESOLVE IT FOR AN AMOUNT OF TIME AND IT COMES BACK. THIS OCCURS WHEN DRIVING AND NOT DRIVING.

FIRST: THE EIGHT INCH TOUCH SCREEN, LIKE IN MANY NEW CARS IS, AS INSTALLED, A CONTINUOUS, DISTRACTED DRIVING HAZARD. FOR ANY DRIVER TO USE IT AT ALL WHILE IN MOTION MEANS ONE MUST GLACE AWAY FROM THE ROAD! IN THIS CAR, THE COMBINATION OF HAVING TO USE THIS WITH NO ALTERNATE CONTROLS LIKE A VOLUME CONTROL MEANS TROUBLE. ADDITIONALLY, NO PROVISION SEEMS TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE BRIGHT SCREEN TO AUTOMATICALLY DIM THE DISPLAY AT NIGHT. YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY DO IT. SECOND: AS WITH MANY NEW CARS THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED AS FOLLOWS OFF THE LOT: LOW BEAMS DO NOT SHINE OUT FAR ENOUGH. HIGH BEAMS ONLY SEEM GOOD AT ILLUMINATING OVERHEAD FREEWAY SIGNS! THE FOG LIGHTS ARE PURE COMEDY.

MY FAMILY TRAVELED IN THIS VEHICLE TO CARLSBAD LAST WEEK FOR VACATION, INCLUDING MYSELF, MY WIFE, OUR 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND 11 YEAR OLD SON. THE VEHICLE WORKED PERFECTLY UNTIL WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME SATURDAY, JULY 22, 2017. WE WERE ON I-10 APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR EAST OF PHOENIX IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH THE CRUSE SET AT THE 75MPH SPEED LIMIT. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF US FOR AT LEAST A MILE. ALL THE SUDDEN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER, NEARLY ALL THE VEHICLE SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED AT AN EMERGENCY RATE DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 40MPH IN ABOUT 2 SECONDS. I IMMEDIATELY HIT 'CANCEL' ON THE CRUISE AND STEPPED ON THE GAS, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW QUICKLY. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THE 18 WHEEL TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND US MAKE AN EMERGENCY SWERVE TO THE LEFT AND MISSED HITTING US BY INCHES. WE WERE NEARLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN FATAL. ALL THIS TOOK PLACE IN ABOUT A 5-10 SECOND TIMEFRAME. AFTER STOPPING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD I MADE NOTE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHOWING A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM, AN AWD PROBLEM AND I THINK JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER ISSUE LIGHT WAS LIT UP. I TRIED TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD, BUT IT WOULD NOT GO ANY HIGHER THAN 3RD GEAR AND THE DASH KEPT INDICATING A TRANSMISSION AND AWD PROBLEM. I PULLED OVER AGAIN AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. AT THAT POINT THE ONLY INDICATOR LIGHT THAT LIT UP WAS THE EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM (SEE ATTACHED PICTURE). I REENTERED THE INTERSTATE AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. WE STOPPED AT THE NEXT GAS STATION AND FILLED THE GAS TANK AND UPON RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE EMISSION LIGHT WAS STILL ON. WE CAREFULLY DROVE HOME AT 65'70MPH. THE FOLLOWING DAY (SUNDAY), THE EMISSION LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON.

THERE APPEARS TO BE A SOFTWARE GLITCH THAT CAUSES THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR WHEN THE VOLUME IS ADJUSTED WHILE THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVE.

WHEN THE REAR TAILGATE IS OPENED ELECTRONICALLY, THE TAILGATE OPENS COMPLETELY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY BEGINS THE CLOSING PROCESS (BEEPS AND THEN CLOSES). IT CAN BE STOPPED MANUALLY OTHERWISE IT WILL FINISH THE CLOSING PROCESS. IF YOU STOP IT MANUALLY, THE ELECTRONIC CLOSING SYSTEM (BUTTON ON DOOR, KEY FOB OR BUTTON BY DRIVER SEAT) IS DISABLED. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE CONTROL UNIT BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE NEXT SOLUTION WILL BE TO REPLACE THE LIFTGATE MOTOR. WE HAVE A 7YR OLD DAUGHTER AND OUR CONCERN IS THAT IT COULD BE A BIGGER ISSUE IF A SMALL PERSON IS PRESENTED WITH THE PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY INSIDE THE CAR I WOULD SAY BETWEEN 35 - 45 MILES / HOUR THEN I STEP ON THE GAS JUST FOR LITTLE BIT WHAT HAPPEN THE REVOLUTION WENT UP TO 3000- 4000 RPM & STAYS THERE FOR A WHILE I HEAR LIKE ENGINE NOISE SOUND & FEELS LIKE IT WENT TO STALL SO AT THIS POINT. I LOOK AT DASH BOARD STILL ON DRIVE MODE WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS IM NOT SPEEDING UP THE RPM REMAINS ON 3000 4000 RPM CAR SLOWING DOWN I HAVETO GO TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I PRESS THE DRIVE BUTTON IT WENT TO SPORTS MODE THE REVS CLIMB EVEN HIGHER SO I PRESS IT AGAIN TO GO TO REGULAR DRIVE MODE THAT'S THE ONLY TIME THE REVOLUTION CAME DOWN TO LESS THAN 2000 RPM ENGINE NOISE SUBSIDED. AS I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY ONE NIGHT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED REVVING UP SUPER HIGH AND THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. IT WAS QUITE FRIGHTENING. BECAUSE IT WAS DARK, IT TOOK A MINUTE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM- THAT THE CAR SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. I SLID THE STICK BACK TO DRIVE AND RESUMED MY COMMUTE. I DIDN'T INTENTIONALLY SWITCH GEARS BUT ACCIDENTALLY (SLIGHTLY) BUMPED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. TURNS OUT THAT THE GEAR SHIFT HAS NO RESISTANCE BETWEEN DRIVE AND NEUTRAL IN THAT IT MOVES EASILY BETWEEN BOTH GEARS WITH NO STOP MECHANISM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER YESTERDAY AND THEY SAID IT WAS "NORMAL," I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID "NO RECALLS" AND SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION. TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS IN SACRAMENTO, CA WHERE WE EXPERIENCED ENGINE FAILURE WITH OUR 2016 HONDA PILATE ELITE. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN MAY 2016 ON A BUSY CITY STREET WITH OUR THREE YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WHILE IN MOTION, THE CAR ESSENTIALLY SHUT DOWN WITH THE DISPLAY SCREEN SHOWING A SERIES OF WARNINGS INDICATING NUMEROUS SYSTEM FAILURES. THERE WAS NO ENGINE POWER BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, JUST A COMPUTER GLITCH, AND THE ONLY REPAIR NECESSARY WAS TO RESET THE COMPUTER/SOFTWARE. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEK, ONLY THIS TIME WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. WE COMPLETELY LOST ALL ENGINE POWER BUT LUCKILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE AND PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER. IF I HAD BEEN IN THE FAST OR MIDDLE LANE WITH LITTLE OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE OVER, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS COLLISION. SIMILAR TO THE FIRST INCIDENT, WE WERE UNABLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE WARNING LIGHTS SHOWING VARIOUS SYSTEM FAILURES. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER WHO INITIALLY INDICATED THEY WOULD JUST REBOOT THE SOFTWARE AGAIN. SO WE PRESSED UPON THEM TO DO A MORE THOROUGH DIAGNOSIS SINCE THIS IS THE SECOND TIME ITS HAPPENED. THEY AGREED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AND SEEK TO IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT NO DIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN MADE. WE WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM A NEAR BRAND NEW (PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2015 AND CURRENTLY HAS ONLY 9,200 MILES) PILOT ELITE LOADED WITH SAFETY AND TECHNOLOGY FEATURES. AGAIN WE EXPERIENCED TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURRING ON THE FREEWAY. AND BOTH TIMES OUR THREE YOUNG CHILDREN WERE IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK AND I CERTAINLY HOPE HONDA DOES ITS DUE DILIGENCE IN DIAGNOSING AND ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE.

THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO COMPLAINT 10881962 IN WHICH ONE OF MY FEARS HAS COME TO FRUITION. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN THE NORMAL MODE (ACC AND LKAS DISABLED) ON A NORMAL TWO LANE PAVED ROAD WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME MADE A SLOW RIGHT TURN. I WAS NOT FOLLOWING VERY CLOSELY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON MY OWN TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE OTHER CAR. I STOPPED ABOUT 15 FEET AWAY FROM THE OTHER CAR. THE OTHER CAR THEN COMPLETED THE TURN TO THE EXTENT THAT THE OTHER CAR WAS NO LONGER IN THE WAY OF ME DRIVING FORWARD IN A STRAIGHT LINE. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS TO THEN PROCEED THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM STARTED FLASHING THE "BRAKE" MESSAGE AND PRODUCING AN AUDIBLE WARNING. AT THIS POINT I WAS POSSIBLY GOING 10 MPH AGAIN. AFTER VERIFYING THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY NOT ANYTHING IN MY WAY, I KEPT APPLYING THE GAS. MY CAR THEN STARTED BRAKING ON ITS OWN, AT WHICH POINT I PUSHED THE GAS HARDER TO PRESUMABLY OVER-RIDE THE BRAKING. A MOMENT OR TWO LATER, MY CAR THEN MADE A SUDDEN AND HARD BRAKE ON ITS OWN THAT BROUGHT MY CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS PUSHING HARD ON THE GAS. THE OTHER CAR THAT HAD TURNED WAS WELL CLEAR OF THE LANE BY THIS POINT, AND WAS EASILY 1 FT AWAY FROM MY PATH OF TRAVEL WHEN I STARTED ACCELERATING IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY ONLY EXPLANATION IS THAT THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM WAS CONFUSED BY THE LACK OF A SHOULDER LANE MARKER (ONLY A RAISE CEMENT CURB WAS PRESENT) AND SOMEHOW THOUGHT THE CAR WAS STILL IN THE "ROAD." IN EITHER CASE, THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED TO THE POINT THAT MY CAR WAS SUDDENLY BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE CAR BEHIND ME VERY NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME IN A SITUATION WHERE I HAD ALREADY COME TO A STOP, AND THE OBSTACLE IN FRONT OF ME HAD CLEARED / CONTINUED TO BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE CLEAR OF MY PATH. THE SITUATION WAS DANGEROUS AND CLEARLY MISINTERPRETED BY MY CAR.

MY CAR HAS A VARIETY OF DANGEROUS BEHAVIORS IN THE DRIVER ASSIST FUNCTIONALITIES THAT COULD EITHER CAUSE OR FAIL TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT 2,000 MILES BUT OBSERVED THESE MANY TIMES. I REPORTED THESE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS FINE. ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES: - FAILS TO DETECT VEHICLES IN ODD SITUATIONS, SUCH AS A TRUCK WHERE THE REAR OF THE BODY PROTRUDES OUT FROM THE REAR WHEELS, AS IF THE RADAR IS ONLY AT GROUND LEVEL, OR IF A VEHICLE IS DRIVING IN MY LANE BUT ONE TIRE IS IN THE OTHER LANE, OR A WIDE LOAD WHICH OCCUPIES ALL OF THE ADJACENT LANE AND HALF OF MY LANE, OR A "BOBTAIL" TRUCK. - AFTER AN EMPTY STRETCH, UPON COMING UP TO A SLOWER CAR, RATHER THAN SLOW GRADUALLY BY EASING OFF THE GAS, THE CAR WILL GET VERY CLOSE TO THE CAR AND THEN RAPIDLY BRAKE, CAUSING DRIVERS BEHIND ME TO NEARLY REAR-END ME. COLLISION MITIGATION: - ALL OF THESE TRIGGER "BRAKE" MESSAGES TO BE DISPLAYED, WHICH IS JUST 1 STEP BEFORE THE BRAKES BEING AUTO-APPLIED, WHICH COULD CAUSE ME TO BE REAR-ENDED. - FALSE ALARMS WHILE MERGING FROM LEFTHAND ONRAMPS WHERE A PENDING COLLISION WITH THE JERSEY BARRIER IS DETECTED - FALSE ALARMS BY THE HILLS ADJACENT TO THE ROAD WHEN GOING AROUND A SHARP TURN ON BACK ROADS - FALSE ALARMS WHEN CRESTING A HILL WITH A CURVE AFTER THE HILL AND IT THINKS AN ONCOMING CAR WILL BE HIT, BECAUSE IT CAN'T SEE THE LANE MARKINGS PAST THE HILL LANE KEEP ASSIST: - PARTIALLY GOES INTO EXIT RAMPS ON ITS OWN IF IN THE RIGHT LANE, CAUSING OTHER DRIVERS TO THINK I AM LEAVING THE LANE AND START TO MERGE THEMSELVES - IS CONFUSED BY LINES OF TAR AND WILL DEPART THE LANE ON ITS OWN - OFTEN "FIGHTS" WITH THE LANE DEPARTURE MITIGATION AROUND CORNERS - TRIES TO PREVENT ME FROM GIVING OTHER VEHICLES SOME BUFFER WHEN PASSING THEM, IF THEY ARE WIDER OR DRIFTING TOWARD ME. - DOES NOT ALERT WHEN IT STOPS BEING ABLE TO DETECT THE LINES

WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM THE TOP OF MY CAR. THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. WHEN I LOOKED THROUGH MY REAR VIEW MIRROR I COULD SEE SOME PIECES FLYING. THANKFULLY, THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS FAR AWAY ENOUGH THAT THEY WERE NOT HIT BY THESE GLASS PIECES AND ALSO HAD MY INTERIOR SLIDER CLOSED. A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED IF BOTH MY SLIDER WASN'T CLOSED AND/OR THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS CLOSE TO ME. I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 3 MONTHS, I CONTACTED HONDA AND ADVISED THEM OF THE INCIDENT AND BROUGHT IT IN TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. THEY HAVE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT GLASS FOR MY SUNROOF. I'M STILL WAITING FOR IT COME IN. I ALSO WENT ONLINE AND RESEARCHED SUNROOFS BREAKING OUT OF NOWHERE AND DID COME ACROSS MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. IT SEEMS THAT IT MAY BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY WITH NEWER VEHICLES BECAUSE THEY ARE BUILT LIGHTER WITH THINNER METALS AND THINNER GLASS. THE GLASS USED ON SUNROOFS MORE COMMONLY IS TEMPERED GLASS, NOT LAMINATED GLASS. TEMPERED GLASS IS MORE PRONE TO SHATTERING WHEN PRESSURE BUILDS UP INSIDE THE CAR. WHEN I SPOKE TO HONDA CORPORATE AND THE DEALER, NEITHER ONE COULD TELL ME WHAT KIND OF GLASS WAS ON THE SUNROOF BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW. I HOPE THIS MATTER CAN BE FURTHER LOOKED INTO. I HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE THAT COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN WORSE.

I WRITE TO YOU TO CONVEY MY SAFETY CONCERNS REGARDING A NEW HONDA 2016 PILOT. MY ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE MY CONCERNS WITH AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. WERE MET WITH TEPID RELUCTANCE AND A CAVALIER NEGLECTFUL ATTITUDE. 1.AT HIGH SPEEDS (55-75 MPH) THE VEHICLE OVERSTEERS AND DURING EMERGENCY AVOIDANCE MANEUVERS BECOMES UNSTABLE. TWICE WHILE AVOIDING DEAR ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, I HAVE ALMOST LOST CONTROL AND WAS SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT ROLLING THE VEHICLE OVER. I OWN AND HAVE DRIVEN A 2003 PILOT FOR OVER 180,000 MILES AND NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS SORT OF ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE SUSPENSION IS INCORRECTLY DESIGNED AND THAT UNEXPECTED AND UNNECESSARY ROLLOVERS ARE IMMINENT. 2.THE 'AUTO IDLE OFF' FEATURE TURNS THE ENGINE COMPLETELY OFF AT CERTAIN TIMES AND UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. IT TAKES BETWEEN 900 AND 1,300 MILLISECONDS TO RECOVER POWER TO THE WHEELS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. UNLIKE HYBRID VEHICLES (FROM WHICH THIS FEATURE WAS TAKEN), THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE ELECTRICAL MOTOR TO PROVIDE TORQUE TO THE DRIVETRAIN WHILE THE ENGINE RESTARTS AND AS A RESULT, THERE IS DELAY IN ACCELERATING. IN THE VAST MAJORITY OF TIMES, THIS IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE HOWEVER IN A SMALL FRACTION THIS DELAY INCREASES THE RISK OF COLLISION. ABOUT ONCE PER WEEK, I EXPERIENCE A DELAY IN ENTERING DENSE TRAFFIC WITHIN SHORT INTERSTATE MERGE LANES. THIS DELAY OF ABOUT ONE SECOND IS ENOUGH TO REMOVE MY MARGIN OF ERROR AND INCREASES THE RISK OF COLLISION DURING A MERGING MANEUVER. WHILE THERE IS A SWITCH TO DEFEAT THIS FEATURE, IT RESETS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND REMEMBERING TO OVERRIDE IT EVERY TIME IS INCONSISTENT WITH HUMAN MEMORY AND PERFORMANCE.

I HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF MY GARAGE WHEN THE TAILGATE WINDOW ON MY EIGHT DAY OLD, 2016 HONDA PILOT FORCEFULLY EXPLODED. IT BLEW SHARDS OF GLASS 15 FEET BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE FORCE BROKE THE REAR WINDOW WIPER AND BENT THE WINDOW WIPER ARM DOWN. ALL THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS TRAVELLING ABOUT 5 TO 10 MILES AN HOUR. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF THE GARAGE, BUT NOT FAR FROM IT. NO ONE WAS AROUND THE CAR. MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE BACK YARD AND HEARD THE EXPLOSION. OUR HONDA DEALER SAID WE PRESSED THE WIPER INTO THE WINDOW CAUSING PRESSURE WHICH BROKE THE WINDOW. I WAS DRIVING ALONE IN THE CAR. IF ANYONE HAD BEEN BEHIND THE VEHICLE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SHREDDED BY FLYING GLASS. IT DIDN'T DROP TO THE GROUND IT FLEW 15 FEET BEHIND THE CAR. THIS PRESENTS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF PEOPLE ARE NEARBY AS ON A CITY STREET OR PARKING LOT. FROM THE INTERNET I SEE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER VEHICLE MAKERS, NOT JUST HONDA.
