Transmission locked up and had to be replaced April 8 of 2025. I was blessed it did not lock up while I was driving, but did as soon as I pulled in my driveway. While driving that evening I had some issue with it not downshifting. When stopped in driveway could not restart the car. Had to have a special tow truck take it to the repair shop. I never got a warning light regarding the transmission needing to be checked. I had issues prior to the lock up, engine revving, gearshifting too late. Obvious transmissions issue. As I never got a warning light no code would show to have it repaired. I took it to the honda dealer for repair. After the replacement with another 9 cyclinder transmission the autoshut off is problematics causing me to stall out when stopping at lights and intersections. I had a previous experience with the 1999 honda odyessy and had 3 transmissions replaced. I am concerned about my safety as I could only replace it with another Honda 9 cylinder transmission.
Auto-idle feature shut off vehicle at a stop and would not restart when light changed. Have to shut off vehicle and start like it was parked. Not safe in city traffic. Dealership said there is no issue with auto-idle feature
I am reporting a recurring “Keyless Start System Problem” warning on my 2017 Honda Pilot. This is a known and widespread issue affecting 2016–2017 Honda Pilot models, as acknowledged by Honda in Service Bulletin 20-117, which identifies a defect in the push-button start/stop switch assembly. In my vehicle, the warning appears intermittently, and the engine sometimes fails to start or requires multiple attempts to engage the ignition. This is a serious reliability and safety concern, as the vehicle may not start when needed, potentially leaving drivers stranded or unable to respond in emergencies. Although Honda recognizes the defect in their service bulletin, they have not issued an official recall and refuse to repair or replace the part outside of warranty coverage. Many owners are being forced to pay out-of-pocket for a clearly documented manufacturer fault. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue and consider requiring Honda to issue a recall or provide a no-cost remedy for all affected 2016–2017 Honda Pilot vehicles. Additional details: •Model: Honda Pilot •Year: 2017 •Issue: “Keyless Start System Problem” warning, intermittent failure to start
Auto Start/Stop Issue. I finally experienced what some other members of my family have experienced with this car. My Honda Pilot stalled at a stop light in heavy traffic after the engine was turned off when I stopped at the light using the auto start/stop function. After I released the brake when the light turned green, the car did not start.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while searching on Carfax ,it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 85,000, and at the time of searching on Carfax, it was discovered that the mileage was 184,753.

so i have a Honda pilot and have been seeing a light saying that my collision mitigation system is broke so i took it in for a diagnostic which i was charged for which is fine and normal i guess but they told me that the system was broken possibly from just driving through construction zones and this causes phantom braking so i have to get it fixed but they want to charge me for the repairs which from my perspective the customer i shouldn't have to pay for a defect like that that can cause injurie or much worse

Electrical System – Body Control Module The BCM in my 2017 Honda Pilot fails intermittently, causing the alarm to activate randomly, warning lights to flicker, and battery drain. The issue occurs without warning, even while parked or driving, creating distraction and reducing confidence in the vehicle’s safety. Numerous other owners have reported identical issues online and with NHTSA, indicating a systemic defect. Honda should issue a recall to address this problem.
Failure occurred at highway speed. A host is warning light came on and the car lost power. Lights that came on included emissions, traction control, power steering, all wheel drive and towing (I wasn’t towing anything). No lights were on before the incident. The vehicle lost power and could not maintain any speed. I was able to roll into the breakdown lane. The vehicle was brought to a local Honda dealer who preformed the diagnosis and determined the issue to be a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. Seems this has been the source of several recalls including the 2017 pilot but not my vin. It seems like the recall my need to be expanded
After fixing a few of the recalls, the alarm on my 2017 Honda Pilot would start going off at random times. After several attempted fixes - replacing the key fob batteries, replacing the car battery - the issue has persisted and we noticed a clicking noise coming from the dash. Essentially the car would attempt to turn on without anyone near it. There are no warning messages present. Thus far, it has not replicated while driving. We have just taken the issue to the Honda dealer and they have come back with a $1400 charge to replace the Smart Power Control Module. In researching the issue, I've seen a number of owners have this issue with 2016-2018 Pilots and even seen some complaints in your database.
The alarm kept going off randomly/intermittently. Honda recalled the control unit/alarm/tpms control unit on Honda Ridgeline bit not on Honda Pilot.

Transmission seems to be slipping the truck in getting louder when I switch gears it takes a min to take off

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that upon coming to a complete stop, the auto idle stop system activated, turning the vehicle off. While attempting to continue driving, the contact became aware that the system had failed to restart the vehicle. After several attempts, the vehicle was able to be manually restarted. After restarting, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. However, the dealer replaced the battery as a precaution. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.

Pilot will shut off at stop signs and red lights. Software update completed in 2023 but issue persists. I shut the “feature” off as soon as I turn car on. It has happened despite this. It may be draining the battery. On third battery in two years. Currently at dealership to complete next warranty update.
My Pilot has stalled multiple times at a stop light when the auto stop feature restarts the engine. It seems to happen most frequently when the heat or air conditioning is running as if there is not enough power to restart the engine. I did have the service bulletin software update performed, which seemed to solve the issue initially. The vehicle has stalled twice in the last few months.
Issue where the headlights would come on intermittently while parked in garage, horn would start going off intermittently, car making noises while sitting parked every few minutes. Appears to be a common issue related to the Keyless Access Control Unit (a.k.a. Smart Power Control Unit).
All of the warning lights come on the dashboard, the D for Drive flashes. While driving the vehicle downshifts and stalls and loses power and 75% of the time when you come to a complete stop the car completely stalls, loses power and you have to manually turn the engine off and restart the vehicle.
My 2017 Honda Pilot in 4/2023 I was driving the belt way my hood was bouncing as if it was going to fly off an kill us all and who was behind us in rush hour traffic. I called made appointment with dealer. My son went on line there was a recall for 2017 Pilot for hood problem, but not my Vin # I was very very upset. I was told it was fixed when I was there last. I told the dealer if they didn't fix it put it in writing. So my family will know what happen to us if that hood came off. Now my Pilot has been jerking sputtering when I take off it's been going on about a year. I keep putting it off until. I was almost hit in the back trying to get on the beltway, everyone screaming. So I check the recall list Guess what there is a recall on the 2017 Pilot but not with my VIN #. Sometimes, my auto start won't work. My dash radio will go black for a minute, so that's and electrical issue. We are going to have a problem if my grandchild can't watch here movies on the monitor when we go for a ride. Why is my Pilot having the recall issues and not on the recall list? I looked up recall for 2017 Honda Pilot there is one for Fuel Pump please add my Pilot to the recall list please. I love Honda's my whole family does, I hate to have to change.
My car started sputtering and lost power on the interstate and the dash lit up with warnings while driving. I brought the vehicle home and the code is for a bad camshaft position sensor after only 78,000 miles. That is absurd. The neglect for safety here is astonishing by Honda.
Engine fails to restart after the engine idle stop shuts off the engine when stopped. It is difficult to restart the engine from this state and creates a safety hazard with the car being disabled for a period of time. It does not happen every time. The battery in this vehicle was replaced 18 months ago and the vehicle has no trouble starting normally.
Honda has a bulletin 20-117 Warranty Extension: 2016-17 Pilot and 2017 Ridgeline Keyless Start System Error with DTC B12C5 That does not include my vehicle VIN but my vehicle is having this exact issue. This warranty extension needs to be extended to all vehicles with this year and model as the issue is obviously happening to them.
Car shut down while driving on highway. After 10 Seconds, restarted but engine was sputtering along.
The car engine was revving up intermittently, with rough shifting of gears, poor acceleration and 3 of the dashboard malfunction indicator lights activating - emission system, transmission system, and blind spot information system. Car still at dealer.
Vehicle fails to restart after the auto engine idle stops the car. Looks like this is a known issue but the dealer I bought this car from isn't doing anything to fix it.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while depressing the hatchback release button to open the hatchback, the hatchback failed to open. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuse box had failed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic contacted the dealer to order the parts and was informed that the parts were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

After driving for over 30 minutes, mixed highway and road, at a stop light, the autostart failed, engine turned off, and went into neutral, w/ a warning the autostart failed. Put into park and restart engine. Cars honking, got the car started after 30 seconds or so. Did not immediately go into park when pushed!
I have had a problem with my vehicle throwing the same codes for over a year and my mechanic and I could not figure out the problem. Finally he ran a report and showed me that these codes match recalls that should have been done on my vehicle but have not been done. I don't know who put it in the system that they had done it but my vehicle is not safe or okay and the dealership won't address my problems because their system shows that it was already fixed.
The auto idle stop feature restart did not work properly and instead the car froze in stop and go traffic on a freeway. Not only did the restart, not work properly in addition the car's electronics froze with multiple error messages on the dashboard coming up. I had to turn the car off by pressing the engine start/stop button, waiting and then restarting it like normal.
My 2017 Honda Pilot touring edition stopped suddenly in a busy intersection causing major traffic back up and dangerous situations until police officers showed up to help. I called road service and it would ne over an hour before i could get help. I was unable to place push button in neutral by several means to get out of traffic and with officers help. No means to override shifter to neutral in cabin. It was discovered on this model you needed to manually place in neutral under the hood after removing several items air filter covers and locating a specail screw which required a special tool to override which none of is had. I am at the dealership now and they are telling me the same thing. Very dangerous situation for me others with same year
Auto shut down/ restart does not work properly. Car was recalled for this issue and a software update was installed. However, car still will not restart after auto shut off. On several occassions we had to use car stop button and wait several minutes before car would restart. This left us stranded at busy intersections in heavy traffic. Very dangerous situation.
Horn stopped working which prevented notice to other car at stop backing up, resulting in a crash. Vehicle started turning itself on in accessory mode, flashing lights, disabling keyless entry and starting the vehicle and smelled of an electrical fire, was unable to disconnect battery due to unpredictable turning on and off at vehicles will. Brought vehicle to dealer who confirmed that it was a bad smart entry main control unit module which caused the horn to stop working and the vehicle to turn itself on.
Twice in the past week my 2017 Honda pilot equipped with the auto start/stop feature completely shuts off at traffic lights. Usually it turns back on but it completely shut down and would not restart at very busy intersections. I was very afraid of being rear ended while i was stuck there at the light, and this is a known issue that Honda has yet to address.
After owning 2017 pilot (brand new) for 3 to 4 years, started experiencing intermittent stalling at stops when auto idle engaged. Similar to many other complaints, car would stall out, entering into an accessory mode. At times takes several attempts to restart the car. Have replaced battery and had the software update related to the issue done at the dealer. However, the issue persists and we now much remember to turn off the auto idle feature every time we start the car, or else we will end up stalled after a stop - usually creating a very dangerous situation and infuriating the drivers around us.
The engine start/stop intermittently fails to restart after idle stop. Yes, available for inspection upon request. I am unable to restart my car after an idle stop which causes danger by causing traffic jams and my vehicle to be idle on the road. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance company. There were no messages of failure.
I was driving in 80 mph traffic in and my car instantly lost all power while alarms starting blaring while I was changing lanes. I was unable to brake or to accelerate and had to coast — over 6 lanes of 5:00 traffic to a stop and was lucky we weren’t killed. According to the dealer, it’s a known issue with the fuel injectors and Honda is planning to repair it at their cost, but have no idea when they can do it because the parts are not available. We absolutely are lucky we weren’t killed.
For no reason the Alarm is going off randomly the dash lights, interior lights, driving lights and headlights are flashing and loud clicking noises come from the dash. This happens frequently and has been going on for some time. I have had to remove the fuse from the Horn to keep it from waking us up at night which creates a potentially dangerous situation if I forget to plug it back in. Also this keeps running down the battery and when it is doing this, it sometimes won't start. I worry about it damaging other electronic parts and causing a dangerous situation. Honda must be aware of this issue with the Pilots. You can search online and find hundreds of others that have experienced the same issue. The Honda Ridgeline has the same issue and they have issued a TSB for it. I find it totally irresponsible that they would try to correct the Ridgeline but not also the Pilot. They know the TPMS Control Units are the problem and they need to fix them.
Auto engine idle continues to be problematic. Leaving me stranded in intersections and unable to restart my vehicle for minutes. Today when it happened it turned off my collision detection feature. I have taken to dealership several times, once they replaced fuel injectors due to related recall but since they show no issues.
With the IDLE function ON, the vehicle fails to start once the engine shuts down. The car suddenly stop and shut off at traffic lights, stop sides. Someone almost hit me 4 times during last month with my kids inside when the car fails to start. There is no recall about this problem yet.
The Control Unit, Smart Power - Honda (38320-TG7-A52) part failed on the vehicle after 50k miles. The issue caused all the lights in the cabin to flicker/click and the alarm to go off intermittently. The alarm could not be shut off.
Driving vehicle when multiple warning lights illuminated, including check engine and emissions control issue. Vehicle sputtered to a stop and would not accelerate after that. Vehicle was towed to Honda dealership and they said it was a faulty rocker arm oil pressure switch.
If I do remember to turn off the auto engine idle, the engine will stall at stoplights and will not immediately restart. I have almost been rear-ended several times. It just happened again about two weeks ago. The dealership replaced my battery and another part associated with this problem but it still occurs. The dealership refuses to disconnect the auto engine idle. My 2017 Honda Pilot should be included in the latest Honda Pilot recall.
Shortly after entering the freeway, the dask lights began to flicker and car started stuttering. Drive for another mile or slow looking to pull over. By that time smoke coming from rhe engine. Once we pulled over, engine area smoking a lot to where smoke coming into car. All of us git out and saw flames coming from engine area. Our pilot was on fire. Firefighters able to put out, but car was a total loss
Keyless control unit has an electrical issue. Dash flickers on and off on its own while the vehicle is off and keys out of it. Alarm randomly triggers. Lights turn on and off. Keyless start issue as well.
Auto shut off happens all the time and the car shut off and need to restart. It is so scary when you are at a light and it turns green and a car appears behind you and almost slams into you. One day it will happen and i will be dead.
Car auto shuts offs and completely shut off and need to put the car in park and pray it restarts. Dangerous ... One day someone will slam into me when i am trying to start it and I hope i am not killed. I picked one date, but it happens weekly.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? In the past few months (My 23 to current Sept 23) the idle stop system would occasionally not restart when gas was applied. This mostly occurred when stopped for a traffic light and I would have to go through a complete restart procedure taking a good amount of time. and causing the folks behind me a great deal of unhappiness. I believe this a significant safety issue because it causes people to drive unsafely in dense traffic environments. The system is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This caused the folks behind me a great deal of unhappiness. I believe this is a significant safety issue because it causes people to react hurriedly and drive unsafely in dense traffic environments. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It has not been checked yet. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet - I will take it to the dealer next month for the annual VA safety inspection. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Not that I saw.
The auto start/stop will intermittently fail to restart the engine from a stop after releasing foot the brake pedal. 2017 model year. In 2022 (4 year old vehicle) the auto start/stop failed to restart on three separate occasions from a stop at traffic lights over the course of one winter month. All electronics in the vehicle shut off while dash needles oscillate rapidly. It takes several attempts to restart the vehicle from park. Replaced only the battery with new AC Delco Group 48 AGM CCA 760 on my own. Problem did not reoccur until 18 months later in the summer of 2023 with the same exact symptoms but occurring more frequently now. The battery is 18 months old, the vehicle is now 6 years old. It has failed to restart seven times in the last 2 summer months. Have not taken it to the dealer or mechanic for repair yet. No warning lamp.
I OWN A 2017 HONDA PILOT EX-L. I KEEP UP WITH ALL MY MAINTENANCE AND VEHICLE MAINLY HAS HIGHWAY MILES. EMISSIONS SYSTEMS PROBLEM LIGHT HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. HONDA DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO COVER THIS ISSUE TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. MY LIGHT CAME ON WHEN MY MILEAGE WAS AROUND 171,000 MILES SO IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. LAST NIGHT (9/7/2023), KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY IN BOTH KEY FOBS. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HESITATE TO START. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE'S VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER SERVICE BULLETIN 20-117. IF HONDA IS AWARE THAT THESE PROBLEMS EXIST, THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE ISSUES TO BE REPAIRED. I HAVE DRIVEN A CIVIC AND ACCORD BEFORE AND THE PILOT HAS BEEN MY WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
Car has died twice when coming to a stop at red lights. seems to be related to the auto stop/start engine setup. Car turns itself off but cannot start right back up again. Every red light flashes but will not easily restart. hundreds of complaints regarding this on the NHTSA website. The NHTSA needs to investigate this, cars being stuck in traffic is a safety issue. since its affecting cars years off the line, it must be some component that is failing prematurely. All of these are extreme safety issues as the car is stuck in traffic, or at light and has to be completely shut off, wait and then restart. Last time took a good 3-4 minutes to get it started again.
For the past two years, I have been taking my Honda pilot to a Honda dealership, complaining of the auto shut off feature. I will come to a stop at a stop sign or stop light. The car would do the auto shut off and when I lift my foot from the break for the car to start again, it won’t. The car will have its lights lit up, but I won’t be unable to turn the vehicle on. I will then have to turn the car off and then start it all over again. All while cars are honking and I’m in the middle of the road. Holler Honda never fixed this problem. I took in videos and photos and I explained it to them and they said they could not replicate the problem and therefore could not fix anything. I continued to drive the vehicle like that. In January 2023 a service bulletin was released where Honda described this exact issue that were happening amongst other 2017 Honda pilot. I took my car in and I said this is exactly what’s happening. My service advisor told me that he needed to do the software update first per the service bulletin. He said if it doesn’t work then to bring the car back and they will do the remainder of the repairs, such as replacing the starter and the assembly. I asked him if we could skip the software update since we’ve been having this issue for over two years and he said no. Six months later I am driving down the interstate and come to a complete stop and the entire car shuts off and never restarts again. I was stranded on the interstate for over four hours, waiting for a tow truck. I had to have the police come because it was at 6 PM and soon after got dark. It’s a huge safety issue especially considering that I have two kids. Something could’ve happened to me. I have the police report number and receipt for the tow truck ($281.00)
I had been driving for over an hour at 70 when I crossed into Pennsylvania and encountered crawl speed traffic. I exited the highway at exit 1. At the top of the ramp there is a traffic signal. I stopped at the red and the vehicle shut down. The light turned to green and the vehicle immediately in front of me proceeded into the intersection. I removed my foot from the brake and attempted to go. The engine auto stop-start kicked the engine but then the engine immediately cut off and the chimes went off. The car behind be stopped abruptly to avoid contact. Attempting to understand what occurred i looked at screen. The screen indicated to shift the vehicle into park. I did. The vehicle did nothing. Since there is no way to to start the engine without it, I was forced to turn the vehicle off using the On/Start/Off button. Hitting the button turned the car off, a second press would normally start the vehicle but it did not. I cycled the button 2 more times and the engine started. This system is flawed.
While Stopped at a stoplight the Auto Start/Stop feature stalled the engine. This has happened to us multiple times.
A few months ago, car started alarming randomly. Upon entering vehicle all lights on dashboard were going on and off, screen was going through each system followed by "problem" and repeated clicking heard in steering column and captured on video for 1 minute. This continued for several days but car drove okay. Alarming bouts came and went for a few days. I researched and found that it was probably the Keyless Access Control Unit based on other owners of similar years/models. Took to dealer and showed my video. After inspecting they came back saying that they called Honda and it was a different part (unknown) but described as more of the control computer for the car. They placed the part on order, but said that another customer had the part on order for over 4 months at that time with no ETA. Six weeks later, without an incident, the car started alarming again on a hot day. Dashboard lights lighting up, clicking in steering wheel, etc. I drove the car for a few errands just fine, until I went to pull out onto a US Hwy and the clicking began, lights flashed, and the car felt as if it stalled as I was entering the road. Suddenly, it couldn't go more than 2 or 3 MPH, although speedometer wasn't working. I was able to stop it and reverse back (2-3 MPH) into the driveway quickly just before oncoming traffic hit me. When the clicking and flashing stopped, the info screen went through every car system alphabetically and listed "Problem" afterwards. I couldn't get the car to drive normally after turning it on/off several times. I disconnected the battery and that stopped the problem. Two weeks later, dealer said part was in so I scheduled replacement. Dealer replaced "Keyless Access Control Unit" despite telling me 2 months beforehand that it was something different. Car has been problem free since replacement, but it has not been long. Additionally, my neighbor has Pilot of similar year, and has the same exact problem of alarming/clicking, etc.
When the vehicle has been shut off, there is an electrical system problem that attempts to re-start the vehicle. the alarm goes off, headlights turn on, the dashboard lights up. This cycles over and over unless you open the hood or a door to "fool" the system. If you don't do this, then often the headlights and dash light will remain on overnight and the battery is dead the next morning. This prblem has been occurring for two years, but the dealr has not diagnosed it becasue it is intermittand and doesn't throw a code.
Beginning in February 2023, around 2AM, my car alarm would sound. Upon inspection, the vehicle dashboard was lit up and clicking relay sounds could be heard from the dashboard. In essence, the car was trying to "start" itself. When the attempted start reached a certain level, the car would recognize the absence of a key fob, and thus, the alarm would sound. To remedy this, I had to leave my key fob in the car - which did not prevent the attempted starts, but at least prevented the alarm from sounding. In the morning the battery was dead from the headlights and interior lights flashing all night. Additionally this was a safety issue as I had to leave keys in an unlocked car. The dealership cannot reproduce the problem, as it happens in the middle of the night (particularly when it is raining or very humid outside). I have found SEVERAL Honda forums with dozens of other Pilot owners who are experiencing the same problem. Dealerships have tried several remedies, all at the customer's expense, including battery replacements, START/STOP switch replacements, etc. The only thing that fixes the problem is replacement of the Control Unit-Smart Power ( 38320-TG7-A32 for my year/make). This part is $400 and labor at my dealership was estimated at $700-800. The part is on backorder. I can only assume it is because there are so many of us Pilot owners trying to get our hands on a working unit. The part is not part of a recall or warranty extension, and frankly, it should be. It is preposterous that so many customers have the same faulty part in 2016-2018 models and that Honda is not covering the cost of these repairs. In the mean time, I have had to disengage my hood sensor to prevent the alarm from sounding, which is a safety issue if the car is stolen. And periodically the battery drains out because the problem persists, lighting up the dashboard while the Smart Power unit tries to start the car all by itself.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled due to a defect with the Auto STOP/START feature. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated during the failure. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions where a software update was performed, the starter motor, starter switch, fuel injector and valve adjuster were all replaced; however, the failure persisted and worsened over time. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
Mileage: 10,000
Vehicle sitting in driveway on hot day started alarm beeping, headlights and tail lights remained on and dashboard warning lights going on and off as if a poltergeist possesed. Car could not be locked. Depleted car battery resulting in new battery being required. New battery did not resolve problem Car drives without problems except some dashboard functions no longer visible Dealer states Smart Access Control Unit, part #38320-TG7-A32, is needed. Part is on backorder from Honda with changing dates of availability. Car is not safe to drive with children and subject to theft since it cannot be locked.
This vehicle keeps having a "Emissions System Problem" Then other times says "Transmission Temperature Too Hot" I bought and get this serviced at my local dealer. They don't know what the problem is and it goes away after I see them for a couple weeks but the problems come back. They say no problem. It's unnerving to drive a car with theses messages and I drive long distances.
Alarm spontaneously went off while in garage & several indicator lights lit up and repetitive clicking sounds heard. Honda dealership Johnson City, TN diagnosed problem as a faulty body control unit module. I was told I could drive the vehicle and afterward unhook the battery cable to keep the alarm from going off & draining the battery. I followed instructions but then it would not start and was then told the body control unit module is at fault. My understanding is that some features of safety are compromised with body control unit module malfunction so perhaps I should not have been given this advice?? When we first got vehicle, 2017 awd honda pilot w RES - the NAV system did not work. Supposedly they replaced it - still does not work. The RES quit approx 2019 - still not work. My wife was told it would cost 2-3,000$ to fix it - did not offer to file a claim on our warranty; we were told to hang an ipad back seat. On 6-19-2019 clock froze; 6-17-19 dash computer not work - Honda replaced display audio replace Navigation unit - warranty covered...9/29/21 starter & battery replaced at 37,394 miles we paid $1020.86 despite having a platinum warranty covering electrical. 10/4/22 at 46,779 miles fuel injectors replaced - warranty covered. 3/26/23 alarm spontaneously went off - Honda diagnosed as body control unit module as problem - "lucky if part arrives by 5/8/23 would cost us $725 to fix (even though we have platinum warranty). Once we reminded them to file warranty will cover but I have to pay for my own rental car (over $900 at this point). Interestingly 737,000 recalls for BCM in 2020. Honda says quote: Our goal is customer satisfaction, that is why we keep a large stock of body parts, mechanical & electrical parts on hand. We have one of the largest inventories in East Tennessee, Western N.C., SW Virginia. 6 times we've had this vehicle at Honda dealership for electrical issues. The SUV has been garaged, driven gingerly, has 51,000 miles on it.
Emission system problem , transmission system problem. Car frequently stops with these error messages and it stopped the acceleration during driving on a freeway. It could have caused a major accident if I had not pulled over safely.
On March 18th, 2023 at 6:30 PM I parked my car and waited for the curbside pick up at a cafe with my 3 girls 6 (my niece) 7, (daughter), and 11 (daughter) years old. The car started blinking all the lights started accelerating by themselves and turned off immediately. while I tried to turn it on it never started instead it blinked and displayed many messages, including transmission system problem, emission system problem, etc. I thought the battery died and called my husband to jump-start the car and it took 30 minutes to get driving with all these scary movements. my kids were traumatized by the experience and I thought thank god they were safe and the problem is solved. After almost a week once again on March 27th at I'm driving the kids to Karate and driving back at 5:45 PM all of sudden it started blinking, shanking, grinding noise, loud noise, and many messages, transmission system problems, emission system problems, etc. "D" drive started blinking. smoke came and I was still on the road not sure what to do. I thought I will be hit by the other cars behind me. luckily I was almost close to our street and it made a loud noise and I parked the car. it still blinked and smoked heavily and I turned off and got out of the car. It was a very scary movement of my life. I have 2 kids and I drive them every day for their day-2 day school/activities. I cannot believe I bought a new car in 2017 trusting the brand and it is already failed, my family. The car has to be towed to the dealership the dealer gave me a code P-2652. I want Honda to take care of their mechanical issues. I cannot get over the trauma I went through and I'm still shaking while I'm writing this. My 7 year old do not want to talk about the car which made me very sad. My girls loved the family car and now I'm in tears thinking about their safety. I want NHTSA to safeguard the consumers who go through these issues. HONDA PLEASE WAKE UP. My girls are ready to draft a letter to HONDA and NHTSA.
The autostop feature on the car fails to restart the engine. The car completely shuts down and all electrical is dead. This has happened multiple times over the course of many years. Often is takes multiple attempts to restart the vehicle while sitting in dangerous traffic situations (e.g. highway, nighttime with no lights). This is a significant safety issue. Honda has failed to fix the problem despite a new ignition switch and new battery. They don't seem to know how to fix it.
Went out to garage and started noticing headlights and running board lights were on, so assumed another household member had opened door to put something in the car which is not common. After this started occurring more often, asked and no one fessed up so started paying closer attention and even opening garage door just to check. After that, started noticing clicking sounds under the hood. Googling, saw online that others had similar issues. One day went to start car to head out and the car was dead. Called dealer and they said I must have left the car in accessory mode, but I wasn't so sure. AAA jumped the car with much effort. Next morning, car would not start again. This time, I remembered I had one of those jumper boxes and was able to start it, maybe because it was just one day difference. I know I was careful to make sure I fully stepped on brake to not leave it in accessory mode like dealer had said I probably did prior. Drove it around to charge the battery and went to store. When I came out, my car alarm was going off. When I got home, I left car out to see if alarm would go off and sure enough it did. I had also noticed that dashboard lights would flicker Honda symbol. This time didn't lock car and the alarm did not go off. Googled some more and luckily found on piloteers a post about replacing the control module around the driver side dash and considered myself lucky that my alarm was only going off when locked as others were saying they had to disable battery because would go off even when unlocked. Made an appt with Honda. I had a video of the car acting up in the garage and hoped that it would start in the morning. It did and showed Honda the video but of course they could not duplicate the issue but I told them I wanted the part replaced and hoped it worked b/c no way I could have unreliability continue. Said found a service bulletin with similar issue where they replaced 38320-TG7-A52 control unit so $850 later my issues are good
This appears to be a known problem with the Honda Pilot with the car auto start/stop feature. The power/engine cuts on and off when trying to start back up. The dealer replaced the battery but after around 6 months it has started again. Before the battery replacement, we had the issue happen on the freeway while driving. So, it wasn't just after the autostop but it happens more prevalently then. It happened at least 2 to 3 times on the freeway. After reading that some vehicles don't start back up, I am concerned that if this cuts out on the freeway and doesn't start back up, it could cause an accident on the freeway at high speeds. I urge you to push Honda to recall the vehicle to fix this issue before someone get hurt. The dealer tech doesn't know what to do to fix the problem. And, doesn't appear to be the battery as we had the new one checked again just to be sure.

Idlestop issues
Was stopped at a very busy intersection today (2/12) and the vehicle's auto start/stop turned the vehicle off. When the light turned green, I attempted to apply gas and the engine stalled out. Was unable to restart the car again after many retries. I was very concerned that another vehicle would hit me since we were at a very busy intersection. All the electronic warnings on the dash appeared to flicker on and off when trying to restart. Eventually had to have the vehicle towed to the Honda dealer since the vehicle could not be jump started or restart on it's own.
Car turns off at stop after auto shutoff will not restart
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// This is an extremely dangerous vehicle malfunction and needs to be addressed as soon as possible before someone is killed. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// While driving on the freeway or highway, traffic comes to a complete stop, the engine idle feature stops the engine, and upon restart, the vehicle stalls. This leaves my wife and kids stalled, sometimes on the freeway for up to a minute until my wife can get the car restarted. During that minute, she's at risk of being hit by other motorists traveling at freeway speeds. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I brought our Honda Pilot to the dealership, and they could not diagnose and fix the issue. Engine Idle Shutoff engaged while at stoplight, however, upon removing foot from brake and attempting to move along with the greenlight signal the vehicle failed to restart. This is the second occurrence with this vehicle since 2018. Engine failed to restart for several minutes while dangerously blocking moving traffic on a busy city street.
For the past couple of weeks, I have seen an quick error message (flashes and then disappears) and my Pilot has hesitated upon restarting after the auto engine idle stop has engaged at a stop sign. This was a longer hesitation (almost a failure to start) than the typical hesitation I feel when this feature engages. Yesterday, an error message stayed on the information screen, warning me that the auto idle stop feature was not working. This morning the error message was not there on startup. When I was at an intersection, my Pilot failed to restart after the auto idle stop feature engaged. It took a couple of attempts (pushing the start button) before the vehicle restarted and I could resume driving. This is a safety hazard for both me and other drivers. I have not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.
The alarm has gone off 30 times from 7am this morning to 2pm. I also have a picture of the dashboard lights. About a month ago I took it to the Honda Dealership and they charged me for a bunch of other things and gave it back for it to do it again the same day. Honda said it's a control unit they need to replace but I have to pay?
My 2017 Pilot Elite has been suffering repeated issues with stalling out / engine not turning back on due to some sort of issue with the stop/start function (which will automatically turn the vehicle off when the break has been suppressed for more than 3 seconds). This is extremely dangerous and has put myself, my family, and others on the road in harm's way on multiple occasions. It appears that both NHTSA and Honda are both well aware of this issue, but for some reason are not moving forward with formal resolution despite the severity.
Several times while at a full stop, the idle stop feature has failed when I have taken my foot off the brake and tried to accelerate. The error message tells me to put vehicle in park then press start. That does not immediately work. So far, I have gotten the vehicle to start within 1-2 minutes but this is a safety problem for me and other drivers on the road. I have not taken this to Honda but will be doing that in the next few days.
My Pilot is suffering the auto stop/start fault that many others have reported online. The vehicle will sometimes fail to restart from the stopped state, forcing us to manually turn off, and restart the engine. As of this morning, the vehicle permanently reports an "Auto Engine Idle Stop System Problem" error.
Keyless Start System Problem indicator illuminated in driver information display. Error notification is displayed intermittently. Stays on for several drive cycles and then goes off for a bit only to come back on again. So far the car seems to start ok, not sure if this issue may eventually cause car to no longer start. This issues has been going on for a few months and will stay illuminated for weeks then suddenly turn off. Scheduled an appointment with local Honda dealership but the indicator was not showing the day of the appointment so we cancelled as do not want to pay for the repair. This is a Honda issue and they should repair regardless of the indicator being illuminated or not.
I am reporting 2 safety issues in this report, both involving the AUTO STOP/START function in my car. SAFETY ISSUE #1: MALFUNCTIONING AUTO STOP/START (ASS) FUNCTION: At least 4 times during the past 2 months, I have had a serious safety issue with my 2017 Honda Pilot wherein it stalls and is completely inoperable for a short time, while I’m stopped at an intersection. This has caused me undue stress and jeopardized the safety of myself and my passengers, and disrupted traffic. According to my best recollection, the situation occurs when the ASS function stalls the engine (when stopped), and I manually press the ‘Disable ASS’ button to restart the engine. But instead of the engine turning back, all systems completely ‘black out’ as I frantically try to re-start the engine, to no effect. After several scary seconds, somehow it re-starts. SAFETY ISSUE #2: CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING ASS FUNCTION: Even when functioning correctly, the ASS function has caused a safety issue for me at least twice. When the ASS function was automatically engaged, I was unable to immediately accelerate to avoid a potential collision. Although no collision resulted, these few scares ‘trained me’ to manually disengage the ASS function whenever I remember to do so. Based on my experiences, It would be safest to have no ASS function at all.

The auto start stop function has failed multiple times on this vehicle in different situations with multiple different drivers. When my mother in law was driving my vehicle with my kids in the car the vehicle would not restart at a stop light in the middle of town with moderately heavy traffic. It took several tries to get the vehicle started again. This has happened to me several times at stop signs and traffic lights since I don't primary drive the vehicle I forget to turn off the auto start stop function. It has failed several times on my wife as well in similar situations. I have not brought this to the dealerships attention due to no fix available and not want to pay to have them tell me the same thing I already know.
Auto-stop feature failed to restart vehicle after auto-stop was engaged at a stop light. When letting off the brake, the auto-stop disengaged, but the vehicle engine failed to start, posing a safety risk as the vehicle did not restart in heavy traffic. This has been reproduced numerous times by the owner, but not by a dealer or independent service center. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, but the owner is an ASE certified mechanic. Warning lamps illuminate after vehicle fails to start, but the only way to restart the vehicle is to shift into park, completely shut off the vehicle electrical and attempt to restart. The system is receiving appropriate recharge from alternator, and battery is in acceptable condition.
The engine would not restart at the red light. Start/Stop system was active, came to a red light and the vehicle turned off as normal with my foot on the brake, when the brakes were released the vehicle did not restart and I heard a click sound. I had to manually(push the start button) to completely turn off the car and then press it again to start the car. I had my entire family in the car including my child, with vehicles behind me on a main multi lane road. I almost got rear ended due to this malfunction.
Auto engine start/stop has failed multiple times causing dangerous conditions in traffic. Engine will not restart for minutes after cutting off due to start/stop component.
Car fails to restart when the engine auto shut off engages. The engine will attempt to restart, but then nothing happens. The car is essentially stalled in traffic. This has happened three times. The car has to be put in park and fully shut off before it will restart using the car’s on/off button. One time it took a few minutes before the car would restart. This happened even after having the battery replaced. I informed the dealer about the problem, and the dealer acknowledged that there is some sort of problem with the auto shut off feature.
Car alarm keeps going off randomly and the electronic dashboard flickers repeatedly while the car is parked. I recently left the car at a parking garage and apparently the alarm was triggered and ran all day - I came back to the car that evening and there was clicking sound coming from the engine (not turned on, of course). The battery was drained and when I got a jump start, the alarm went off and the dashboard went crazy again. I wonder what would might happen when the car is being driven. There's clearly something wrong with the electronics. The dealer said I needed a new body control module (BCM), but the part is hard to come by apparently. Having done some research on the the issue, this appears to be a common problem with Honda Pilots. My car only has 50k miles on it and seems out of character to have this part fail. The short-term solution is to leave the car unlocked which in turn disarms the car alarm, but I've seen the dashboard and cabin lights flicker off and on in this state. This problem has been ongoing for months now.
When at a red light the engine turns off when you press the brake. When you life you foot it should restart automatically. Multiple times my car has no restarted. It sends me a message to put the car in park, press the brake again, and restart with the push button. But it did not work immediately. I had to do the process 5-15 times before it restarted. This is a safety issue because I’m in a stalled car at a red light with traffic trying to get around my car or worse cars coming at a regular speed who don’t see I’m stopped. After researching I have seen that this issue has happened to other owners as well. I called my local dealership who said to bring it in so they could inspect it - which I have not done so yet. Just today there was a brief flash of an alert right after it restarts mentioning the collision assist or one of the other safety issues but it disappeared before I was able to fully read it.
Our 2017 Honda Pilot is having issues with the idle stop feature at a stop light or other standard stops. The engine completely shuts off and all electronics also shut off. It then needs to be placed in park and restarted. However, it sometimes takes multiple attempts to restart the engine. We are now having trouble with it even starting when the engine has been off. All the dashboard lights come on and it sometimes takes several attempts to start the engine. This issue is very unsafe when traveling and having your engine completely shut off while in traffic and could easily lead to a traffic accident. We have spoken to our local Honda dealer several times about this issue and they have said that Honda knows about this issue but does not have any solutions for the problem. Something needs to be done about this before a serious accident happens because of it.
While the vehicle was stop, the auto shut off went off, and upon moving the foot from brake and depress accelerator, the Honda Pilot 2017 turned off and restarted requiring driver to depress Engine Start again.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. This has happened infrequently in the past but is now occurring more often, multiple times a month.
1. The automatic start/stop feature sometimes fails to restart the vehicle 2. On a few occasions now I have been stranded at a stoplight trying to restart the vehicle with people trying to navigate around me. 3. I have not have it inspected by the dealer or mechanic yet. In my own research of the issue I found the there are a number of complaints about the same issue in the range of model years that includes my 2017 Honda Pilot 4. There were no lamps or warnings prior to the issue. When I take my foot off the brake the engine is supposed to restart but didn't. I had to completely power off the vehicle and open the door (so that all accessories like the radio were also powered off) and restart the car. But it took multiple tries. When I pressed the starter button the accessories would come on but the engine doesn't immediately start. There were no prior symptoms and, outside of the auto start/stop failures, I have never had a problem starting the vehicle. The auto start/stop works most of the time so, although the issue has happened a few times now, it is not consistent.
After stopping and the auto start-stop system is utilized to turn off the engine, the engine does not restart on its own when releasing the brake pedal. The vehicle must be shifted to park, turned off, and restarted before you can begin driving again. This has happened many times and poses a major safety risk since it happens predominantly at stop lights.
Numerous times the auto stop/start feature has failed to work. When the car tries to start back after the stop/start feature has been engaged, it does not start and will completely turn the car off. All the electronics will flash off and back on. When this happens the car has to be returned to park and can take several minutes to start back leaving the vehicle stranded in the intersection. I have complained to the dealership but they say there isn’t a problem and to just turn the feature off. In order to do that a button has to be pushed every time the car is started.
For years the stop and auto-start feature will not restart automatically. Sometimes the entire vehicle itself will shut down, lose, power, then restart by itself. It is more frequent now. Last week while on the freeway, the car shut down and failed to restart altogether. The engine did not respond. I had to put it in neutral and restart the car. I had to attempt to restart it a couple of times before it finally turned on again.
When stopped, the engine idles off but when I go to accelerate, the engine shuts off. This is becoming a safety issue as the last two times were on a highway although it is really always a safety issue. Last year the dealer had me get a new battery. While that worked for a bit, the issue is back and worse than ever.
The auto stop/start feature is defective. It turns off the engine when stopped at red lights, but many times the engine then fails to start again when the gas pedal is pressed when the light is green, and the car stalls. This has left us stalled in intersections many times, and sometime it takes 10-15 minutes before the car starts again. We even had to call for a tow once. This problem has been ongoing for a few years and I have communicated it to my Honda dealership many times, and have brought it in multiple times, and they have failed to rectify the issue.
While a stop light, the Idle Stop feature engaged as normal, however when the brake was released the engine failed to restart. This is not the first time this has happened, but this time following the instructions on display, place vehicle in park and press the Start/Stop button, didn't work. It was at night and I figured I would turn off the lights and radio to help. It took 4 or 5 attempts to get the vehicle to restart. This happens more frequently when idle stop is engaged short order, such as in a long line waiting for a left turn.
On multiple occasions now my Pilot has completely shut down while the auto-idle is on and I have been unable to restart it quickly. My young children and I have been stuck in traffic multiple times unable to move or get out of the way of oncoming traffic due to this and most recently on 9/16/22 I was almost hit due to be unable to restart my vehicle. I typically keep the auto-idle off for this reason but if I forget to turn it off, it happens again. I purchased my car on 7/06/22 and this has happened 3 times (which is a very high percentage of the time the auto-idle is accidently left on). I have tried to take it into be serviced but it does not happen every time so they have been unable to assist. There are no lights on, messages or any indication when this happens, the engine just shuts completely down and takes a minute to allow you to put it into park and restart the engine by pressing the break and the start button. This is terrifying for me, my children and everyone else on the road that has almost hit my idle car. I am scared every time I get into this car and unsure what to do at this point.
The car sometimes fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or stop sign with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. Furthermore, on two recent occasions the car would not start at all after it was turned off to get gas. One of those times it sat for 40 minutes at the gas pump while waiting for a jump start (it eventually started on its own), and the other it had to be towed to the dealer. After the first incident, we were told there was nothing wrong with the battery and a month later, when the car had to be towed, we were told the battery was completely dead. The concern with the start/stop trouble has been reported to the dealer and we were told there was nothing they could see. There have been no warning lights, lamps or messages. The start/stop problem began approximately a year ago, and we have tried to turn that feature off when driving, due to the problems that occur, since we were told there wasn't a problem that could be seen. On the occasions we forget to take this step, it always struggles at a stoplight or intersection and if not caught in time, the car will stall out, sometimes taking 2-3 tries to restart. The vehicle is currently in the shop, awaiting a battery replacement as we have been told that is what is causing the start/stop issue.
The auto-idle system causes the car to stall quite often and poses a major safety hazard. We bought the car brand-new in May 2018. The problem started happening approximately 2 years after buying the car. The car fails to restart when you lift the foot off the break and instead, stalls the car. My husband and I have had the car stall at red lights, at stop signs, and recently while we were in the left lane of a major highway in traffic. Just this past weekend, it stalled on me twice in less than 24 hours. It takes quite a bit of time to restart because you have to put the car in park and make sure it is completely shut down before trying to start it again, while also trying to remember to put on hazard lights. I did bring it to Lia Honda in Albany NY on Sept. 24, 2021, 3.5 years after buying the car, specifically for this issue. They could not recreate it in the shop. They suggested I needed a new battery and proceeded to install a new batter at a cost of approximately $500 (it is my understanding batteries should be replaced every 5 years typically). This helped for about 6 months but now the car is stalling quite often again. While they have a button to disable this system, it defaults to "on" every time you power the car off/on, and it is easy to forget to turn it off. This is a major safety issue as the cars behind me don't realize I have stalled. I realize this is a known issue as other Pilot owners have filed similar complaints, and I hope Honda fixes this issue because we paid a lot of money for this car and will have teenagers driving it soon. We are happy to have the car inspected further if necessary. Thank you.
The idle stop feature not working properly. Many times the engine will not restart after releasing the brake and pressing the accelerator. This has left me stranded in busy traffic situations including intersections. This is very dangerous and a hazard for me and my family.
On multiple occasions, the engine idle stop system has failed to restart the engine at an intersection when releasing the brake leaving the car disabled in a dangerous situation. This started after about 20k miles. When it happens the car is fine until brake release. It seems to try to restart but the entire car loses power. No lights, no anything. Won't restart at first either. After a few moments trying to get it to restart it will fire up and you can put it back in drive and continue. I did note it happened less when I replaced the battery for a while. Dealer has replaced fuel rail and ignition switch to no avail. As a car guy I can say when it happens it's almost like there is not enough power to throw the starter. At that moment it's like all the power is sapped away like a bad ground or something. But then it comes back because obviously it restarts after a bit. Battery, Alternator and starter tests are always good. We now turn engine stop off every time we start the car out of fear but there is no permanent off switch.
I have experienced several instances where the vehicle's auto stop-start system fails to restart the vehicle's engine after a stop. This has happened 2-5 times. Specifically, when the vehicle is at a full stop (with brake fully depressed), the auto stop-start system is designed to stop the engine to conserve fuel by turning the engine off. During the episodes at issue, the system works correctly to stop the system. However, when I have released the brake pedal and attempted to resume driving, the engine has failed to restart and the power system appears to fail/reset. The vehicle then requires that I attempt to restart it using the stop/start button. On at least one occasion, I had to make multiple attempts to restart the vehicle before it finally began operating again. This situation often results in the vehicle obstructing traffic for an extended period of time and creating a dangerous situation. I have begun disabling the auto stop-start system when driving the car to avoid this problem occurring.
On numerous occasions, when the auto engine start/stop engages, due to coming to a temporary stop, the vehicle completely shuts down. I then have to restart the car manually. Usually a notification pops up on the dash telling me there’s an issue and you have to follow the instructions. It’s very stressful because I am usually in traffic and have my children with me. This is a huge safety issue.
I was stopped at a stop sign and the auto-idle engaged. When I went to start again, the entire car shut down and would not start. I told me to depress the brake to start the vehicle, but the brake would not depress. I was stuck at the stop sign in the middle of a busy intersection because the car wouldn’t restart after the auto-idle engaged. After about 10 minutes, the car was able to start and I was able to drive it home. Prior to this, I have had some instances where the auto-idle would engage and when I went to drive again, all the lights would flash and it would delay in starting. The code reader read zero codes. Previous inspections from the deal found no errors as well. We are replacing the battery, but there are no other indications the battery was dead, dying or faulty and would cause this issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that alarm on the vehicle would activate erroneously. The contact stated that after deactivating the alarm, the alarm sounded again hours later. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.

1. The problem is linked directly to the Auto Start/Stop capability. The Car is available for inspection upon request. 2. Car shut down electrically in the intersection of the road and caused traffic and police presence, semi trucks rolling through were frightening 3. Honda West Dealership in Las Vegas inspected the problem but had no resolution to fix it. 4. No warning lights indicated a shut off was emminent.
The auto start/stop on my vehicle doesn't always work. I come to a complete stop, the vehicle turns off and when I pick my foot up off the brake to restart the car sometimes it will stall. There is no warning message or indication whether or not the car is about to stall, it just happens randomly. We cannot consistently replicate the issue. In order to restart the car I have to hit the start button, wait for the car to completely shut off and then turn the car back on creating a huge safety issue especially if I'm in the middle of an intersection waiting to make a left-hand turn. This is an accident waiting to happen. I brought my car to a Honda dealership approximately 6 months ago and brought the issue up to them. They told me they could find no issue with the car, couldn't replicate it and told me they had never heard of it before. It wasn't until I did an online search a few days ago that I realized that I wasn't the only one having this issue. I drive my children in this car and would be willing to allow anyone to inspect my vehicle to try to get to the root of the issue. This is a huge safety issue for what is supposed to be a safe family vehicle.
we bought April 2021 and 1st issue not even 60 days after purchase, dealer removed warranty without us knowing! We have had problems ever since with warming lights coming on & flashing on multiple occasions, even while traveling @ 50 mph!. Huge safety issue as the vehicle jolts and then looses power and can't pick up speed and go with flow of traffic! Someone will get in an accident because of it and that will be a HUGE liability for honda as you all are ware of these issues and are doing NOTHING to recall them and fix the problem! This is a problem for many honda pilot owners from all the honda forums i have read and research ive been doing! i want the issue resolved as this is NOT a random. I just read that there was a service bulletin in 8/2019 pertaining to this specific car/VIN and it references faulty fuel injectors. i have no way to know if this was completed. i feel i should be able to have the injectors serviced/replaced at NO COST to me as this is a HUGE problem with 2016-2017 pilots and the fact a honda dealer pretty much sold us a LEMON of a car! I want our pilot fixed as it is a problem that Honda has been having with 2016-2017 pilots and Honda should be liable for this! Happened again today and has been happening more frequent in the past few months but have been dealing with it since we bought the vehicle. recent mechanic said the ECM/PCM may be faulty as you cant get a viable code as everytime it happens it throws all kinds of warning lights & codes that are not accurate.
Failed to restart when auto engine stop engaged in the middle of a busy intersection. Large truck with heavy duty battery jump started but it took 10 minutes of being connected to the battery for the engine ignition to start again. No lack of charge (all electronics working but turned off just in case) but a defect in the restart after cutoff.
I have a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite. My car has had issues since I purchased with the stop/start feature and it’s progressively gotten worse. It’s currently failing every day. In 2017, it was the automatic stop not working right. It would intermittently come on/off when at a complete stop. It never quite functioned properly. It’s so bad, that I turn feature off when I start the car. Unfortunately, I can’t have it default to off so if I don’t remember to turn off auto-start every single time, then I have issues. My son was 3 years old when I bought my car. I would be at stops and the car would shut off. Then, it wouldn’t start. It would require me to press brake+gas+start button to reset car. I have come very close to getting into accidents while at stops and have had drivers with road rage come after me since I made them miss the light while my car restarts. I have been in the turn lane with heavy traffic and my car stops in the middle of the intersection. In 2018-2020, it progressively gotten worse. I took to Southeastern Honda to get looked at and was told that’s just how it works. After 2020, the car stops and will not restart at all. It would intermittently happen where I would need to get a jump start to get car running. I took to Space Coast Honda thinking it was my battery or starter. I was told that it tested fine, but still does it. In 2022, my car progressively got worse and requires a jump start. I since purchased a jump starter that is portable. I have to use it every single day. I have narrowed down the symptoms. If I drive 30 minutes and turn car off and immediately back on.. it will not turn over. I have to wait 4 hours and it works. I have measured my stop battery at 11.7 when it doesn’t work. If I wait 4 hours or jump start.. then it requires a 12.6 to start. I researched and found article that is exactly what happens https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2016-2020-honda-pilot-nhtsa-investigation-engine-failures/#ftag=COS-05-10aaa0j
We own a Honda Pilot 2017 Touring trim. I saw your news report that there is a document out there published by the NHTSA that is investigating this issue. I’d like to add my experience to this. On or about April 2022, we started experiencing the start/stop issue while living in Kansas. When the issue occurred, an error message would flash very briefly across the dash, quick enough where we could not take a picture of the message. Our Honda would stutter then start back up. At this point, we took it to the Legends Honda dealership [10050 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS 66109] and after a free diagnostic they told us they could not A) replicate the issue, B) find evidence of the error message in the system. The next week, we had a complete engine failure while at a stop light for a full 5 minutes. During those 5 minutes, the engine remained off, the transmission shifted to Park on its own, and the vehicle could not be restarted manually. Traffic built up behind and around us as we were trying to figure out how to get off the road and we could not turn the hazard lights on. It seems this issue is related to an electrical component. After 5 minutes, we were able to push the ignition button to turn off the car completely and restart the engine. The vehicle operated normally afterwards. On August 12, 2022, the same issue occurred where the vehicle engine would not restart and we were prevented from manually restarting the vehicle for about 5 minutes. Once again, the transmission shifted itself to Park, an error message flashed across the screen briefly this time, and after 5 mins we could manually restart the car and continue as normal. Between these catastrophic failure dates, we would experience multiple start/stop stutters with error msg The only experience we have where this would not occur is to manually turn off the auto start/stop feature when driving the car. We see this as an issue that could cause injury, aggressive drivers, and other safety concerns.
The auto restart feature fails to restart the car after releasing the break sitting at a busy intersection. The car information center provided information to put the car in park and hit the ignition button again. I was able to get the car to restart after several tries by putting the car in park, shutting it off and turning it back on. This the third time this has happened in the past month.
My car completely shuts off at stop sign/red light when engine idle feature is activated. I have to put car in park and restart it. This has been an ongoing issue since summer 2021. Vehicle was evaluated at dealership with no resolve. In addition, a new cam shaft had to be installed in fall 2022 , at Honda's expense.Car completely stalled while passing another (55mph)
Car stalls when auto stop turns back on
Vehicle stalls REPEATEDLY when the automatic anti-idle function is active. Whenever the air conditioning and audio is on and I stop the car, the engine stops (as the anti-idle system is intended to work), then stalls out as the engine restarts. This has been happening for about 2 years and happens almost every time the anti-idle system engages. It’s terrifying when it stalls in stop and go traffic on the highway.
In support of NHTSA Action Number: PE22005 2017 Honda Pilot multiple experiences with the auto idle cutting off and not restarting. 8/4/2022 was worst experience to date. The vehicle cut off at a stop light and would not restart. The ability to roll down the windows and unlock the doors was disabled so 2 occupants were potentially trapped inside. Fortunately a door had just been opened to waive backed up traffic around the disabled vehicle. AAA and Sheriff's were called to the scene. It was successfully jumped and the AAA diagnosis was that nothing was wrong with the battery, starter, nor alternator. This is a major flaw in engineering and a fix has to be developed or the vehicle appropriately replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle previously had the battery and Auto Start/Stop button replaced; however, the while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, the brake pedal was firm while depressed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was able to restart and no error codes were retrieved. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22005 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Starting in the summer if 2020 every few weeks after coming to a stop and the auto idle stop would stop the engine. When releasing the brake the engine would not immediately restart. The pause on restart would slowly increase as the time between occurrences decreased. Occurred during each trip. Pauses increased enough that the entire control panel and radio screen would go black, and then the car restarted with warning message coming up on control panel. Contacted Honda and took it in on 9/9/2020. They couldn’t recreate the issue. They charged the battery, did hard reset. Drove car with issue still occurring. Returned the vehicle for additional service on 9/16/2020. They are still unable to duplicate the issue and opened up a tech line case#4376911. They replaced a Dc/DC converter. Issue continued. Returned car with same issue. Don’t know date at this time. They replaced the battery which did fix the problem, temporarily. Began having same issue April 2022. Issue slowly increasing in duration of pause and frequency of occurring. July 10 2022 started having pause long enough for control panels to go dark and get warning light when engine restarted. Started occurring daily. On Friday 7/29/22 came to a four way stop and idle stop engaged. Lifted foot off brake, pushed on gas and realized car had not restarted and car was rolling backwards. Quickly pushed on brake to to stop car rolling backwards which then car restarted with warning light. Called Honda on 7/29/22 made appointment for 8/4/22. On Sunday 7/31/22 We were driving and came to a stop and idle off engaged turning off engine at a red light. At this occurrence the dash and radio went black when foot was pulled off break. Engine did not restart. Dash lights came back on with message that car must be in park to start engine. Attempted to switch to park but controls would not until few attempts. Finally Able to put in park, start car, put in drive and pull away. Stuck in traffic lane for about 15-25 seconds. Scary.
I was stopped at a red light. The stop idol engaged and the vehicle did not start when I attempted to make my turn. The instrument panel indicated that I should shift to park. I did so and attempted to restart the vehicle but it did not start. After a number of attempts to restart it eventually turned on and I drove straight home. I was in the middle of a major intersection with my son in the car. Car zooming by me as my car was stuck in the turning lane. If a car failing to start as a result of a feature that was integrated by the manufacturer isn’t a safety issue then I don’t know what a safety concern would be classified as according the this institution. Permanently shutting off the feature is not an option as it renegades every time you start the car initially. The car has stalled a few times prior to today’s incident but this is the first time it failed to restart. As I drove home I reengaged the system to see what would happen, if failed to restart again and began the stall every time once the idol stop was engaged. This is unsafe. If I forget to turn off the function of this feature and I am on an expressway what happens if the car fails to restart, my brakes lights may not be pressed as I am thinking I am simply going to drive off and I could get rear ended at 60 miles an hour. This is a safety issue. This is a ticketing time bomb and further delays are putting thousands of lives at risk. I did I not know about the problem until I research the internet to find a solution. Why haven’t we been informed of this problem? Is this institution waiting for the body count to be high enough to warrant a consumer alert? This is a safety issue.
When stopping for more than a few seconds auto-idle stop turns off the vehicle completely and does not turn back on by pressing the gas pedal. Car must then be completely turned off, back on and shifted into drive to continue moving.
The problem is that which is reported here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10184330-0001.pdf My problem is that I am being told that my VIN number is not included in the group eligible for the warrantee extension and fee coverage for the replacement of the keyless start sytem. Seeing how my vehicle is the model, make and year that this problem is known to effect, I am confused and frustrated by the inequitable and arbitrary use of VIN numbers as determinant of coverage. This is a known issue for 2017 Honda Pilots. My vehicle CLEARLY demonstrated all the malfunctions described and therefore, I believe it should be provided the warrantee extension and that I should not have to pay for the replacement ($168.17).
For several year I've had a problem with the fuel-saving stop-start system on my Honda Pilot. Unless I turn this system off each time I drive it routinely (several times a week) fails to turn back on after making a complete stop, usually at a traffic light or stop sign. This has placed me in several dangerous situations as cars are speeding behind me, not expecting my car to be at a dead stop when a green light turns. It takes several tries to re-start the car and causes chaos at intersections. I took the car to a Honda dealer and was charged $975 to replace the battery, which they said would fix the problem. I have also followed all the safety recalls and yet the problem persists. I wanted to file an official report because this faulty system is a major accident waiting to happen. Given that my car fails to re-start once or twice per week, it's only a matter of time before I'm hit from behind while I'm stalled at an intersection. Honda has made it so that I am unable to permanently disable this feature and has yet to provide a repair so that it doesn't occur. Meanwhile, I've spent almost $1k trying to fix the problem myself without success. If the fuel-saving start-stop system is going to be a required feature please hold Honda accountable for providing a system that keeps their drivers safe and will not be the cause of an accident bringing harm to my family or others.
The auto idle stop function caused the vehicle to stop running, needing a full shutdown and restart. This happened on busy roadways, and it has happened two times with this vehicle, one time each in different years. I think the first time was in 2021 and the second was definitely in June 2022. We have had this vehicle into a dealership multiple times attempting to resolve the issue. Each time the battery has been replaced due to low voltage, and they were able to reproduce the issue at least once. The most recent time I was informed that Honda released a service bulletin recommending a change to engine compression that may be straining the battery when restarting the engine, but I am currently waiting on Honda to decide if they will cover the cost of this service before agreeing to it. We are currently operating the vehicle with the auto idle stop disabled. Other symptoms included the electrical system blinking off and on when restarting the engine after a stop. This was reproduceable after 3-4 consecutive stops in a short period of time, such as urban driving with traffic lights. This first appeared 3-6 months after a new battery is installed.
Vehicle does not start back up after auto shut off activates. It is also stopping suddenly on the road
The Auto Start/Stop feature on my 2017 Honda Pilot has had issues for the last 2 year. It started with the engine occasionally "hesitating" to restart after I held the brake pedal down at a stop light. As it started to happen more frequently, I took it to my Honda dealer and they told me that they could not recreate the issue and thus could not diagnose and fix it. Within the last 6 months, the issue has become more and more frequent and severe to the point that I have been worried about the car not restarting and have been manually turning off the Auto Start/Stop feature when I drive the vehicle. It does seem to occur more frequently in hot weather when I running the A/C and there is more of load on the engine and system. On July 16, 2022, I forgot to turn off the Auto Start/Stop feature, and at the first stoplight that I stopped at, the feature turned on, shut off my engine and then failed to restart. I had to put the car in Park and then it took me a few moments to get the car to re-start. The vehicle was very slow to respond, as I was afraid of the car not restarting at all. After a couple of minutes the car did restart. I turned off the Auto Start/Stop feature and did not have any further issues on my drive home. After the failure to restart from the Auto feature, my dashboard told me to put the car in park and restart. I do not recall if any other warning lights appeared, as I was franticly trying to get car restarted in the middle of traffic and cars honking at me. Once the car restarted all warning lights disappeared. Upon returning home that day, I Googled the issue before making an appointment with my dealer again. I became aware of NTHSA's investigation into this issue. From my experience, Honda should recall these vehicles and fix the issue. Someone could have hit me from behind at speed, as it was a green light and not everyone is always fully paying attention, or has poor depth perception.
The Idle-Stop system shuts off when the SUV is stopped for two or more seconds. There are times when I release the break pedal after several seconds or more and the car engine does Not restart on its owLast episode 7/2/22
Vehicle stalls in the middle of intersection while attempting to auto restart with the auto on/off feature. This has been happening since we boughe the vehicle new in 2017. Dealer said they could not simulate. Happens a few times a day.
Instrument Cluster goes blank, audio unit goes black, back up camera & sensors not working at times. My audio unit was replaced on 5/10/21, after experiencing these system for several months. The new Display audio 39540-TG7-A42RM worked approximately 2 weeks before symptoms started appearing again, with the most severe popping sound that occurred 7/07/22. Display was sluggish for about a week, then a loud startling popping sound came from inside the dash while driving on the highway yesterday, followed by a crack under the right navigation vent trim. The display turned black, tried to reboot, & was very sluggish, and slow to respond. Then the engine transmission jumped, while this is all going on. I was on the highway, and thought I was going to crash, due to my vehicle losing function. The vehicle “jumped” like the transmission was slipping, so much so, that I thought my car was going to lose control. I had to turn around to head home fearing I could lose control of my vehicle, as the navigation display would freeze at times. Today, the display will boot up slowly, with just the lower left corner only, then slowly returning to normal. This happens when I start my car each time, and sometimes while I am driving. I have also noticed that the transmission will slip out of park to neutral at times, when I push the button to Park, then rolls forward. I’ve been to Kunes Country Honda numerous times, of which they say there is no fix. I currently have an appointment for 7/12/22 that I made last week before it actually popped so bad, because it was sluggish, and before that, I could tell it was a huge issue because now it is sluggish every time I start my vehicle. My understanding is that Honda will only replace this unit with the same, defective unit. This is an unacceptable alternative. I still have an extended warranty on my car for 9,000 miles. I am currently thinking its the module now.
When auto idle is engaged, the car SHOULD start when the brake is released after stopping. We noticed problems when we released the brake. The radio and A/C shut down and quickly come back on again. So release brake, radio and A/C shut down and then radio and A/C come back. Reported to Jeff Wyler Honda and I believe I have a video. As of yesterday, the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. You have to put your foot on the brake, shift to park and restart. This occurred twice in two days. Once at a traffic light and once after a traffic jam on the highway. It is scary especially the first time it occurs. It has the potential of leaving the vehicle in a stopped position in dangerous locations if it can’t be restarted, I.e. the highway. I’ve read that a jump is sometimes required.
--AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP SYSTEM. Yes, available for inspection upon request. --SAFETY CONCERN- Engine stalls in the middle of traffic... causing other traffic behind car to become angry and try and pass the STALLED car. As they attempt to pass, they endanger other traffic. Usually happens during heavy traffic, breakdown then needs driver to restart car completely in mid traffic and missing or heavy delay of green light which could itself potentially cause an accident. --The STALL happens constantly 1 once a month, but not able to reproduce every time car is stopped... therefore can not be repeated upon inspection. Happens at the worst time, during traffic stops. --Complaint was made during oil change, but dealer found no problem. No warning lights prior to stall. Problem has happened and reoccured for almost two years.
The auto start/stop system on the Honda Pilot is failing at intersections causing the car to stall out and be stuck in traffic. Dealer and Honda does not have remedy for this issue. This is a known problem that is well documented by other owners. This is now happening about three times per week and I am worried that it will cause a major traffic accident and or death if I get stuck in the middle of an intersection.
When breaking at a stop. Entire car shuts off instead of just the engine. Turns off and have to restart car while in traffic. Has occurred 4-5 times so far.
I moved into the left lane to merge onto another road. I had to come to a stop because a car had was stopped ahead of me. After that car moved, I lifted my foot from the brake and pushed the gas to make my left hand turn. The car didn’t move. A light flashed on the car that said something like “to start engine push brake and push start” I looked down at the gear shifter and noticed it was on N. I tried to hit “drive.” The car flashed the sign again. I put the car in park. I tried to put the car back in drive. The car would not change gears. I put on my hazard lights, turned off the car, and restarted it. The car transitioned from park to drive. There have been many instances where I’m merging onto a roadway or slowing down to turn left where the car hesitates. I will be braking. I lift my foot from the brake to press the gas pedal and nothing happens. The car moves because it’s going downhill, but the gas pedal is not causing the car to move. When the car does finally move, it moves with a huge lurch. There have been times that I'm unable to move my car with the gas pedal while crossing traffic. It's terrifying and Honda says that they are unaware of the problem and unable to replicate it.
Issue: engine sometimes does not start after engine idle stop activates On several occasions while stopped at traffic lights the engine failed to start requiring the driver to turn the vehicle off then back on. This occurs after the engine idle stop actives. When the engine stops electrical components, such as the radio, momentarily lose power. The dealership was not able to reproduce the issue. Members of my household have encountered this issue several times a week over a 2 month period. This is a safety issue as the car does not reliably start in traffic.
The auto start and stop engine feature leaves the car stalled and unable to restart until multiple attempts. We have been stuck in the middle of a highway multiple times with hazards on trying to restart
When exiting the interstate and stopped at stop sign, vehicle shut off due to auto stop/start feature. When I released the break to go, the vehicle did not start and completely shut down. The vehicle had to be placed in park, break pressed and ignition button pressed again. It took a little bit but it did start again. After this incident, this has also happened about 10 more times stop lights around town. It has always started again but it takes a minute to restart and multiple steps are needed for it to be restarted. Traffic has been backed up while I attempt to restart the vehicle.
I own a 2017 Honda Pilot Touring addition and recently learned there is an investigation on the auto start/stop feature. We have experienced the vehicle stalling too many times to count. However, it does seem to be getting more frequent as the vehicle gets older. When the vehicle comes to a stop the feature will engage and two things may happen: 1. The vehicle will immediately die causing us to put the car in park and restart or 2. The vehicle will stall/die when in the movement of taking my foot off the brake and pressing the gas pedal. On some occasions we have had to try multiple times to restart the vehicle. The most memorable stalls happened during busy traffic and of course caused a panic as the time to restart feels like minutes when it’s really only seconds. When this happens it has caused us fear of being rear-ended as there has been many times we braced for this as we saw an oncoming car from behind. Our local Honda dealer (Basney Honda) has attempted everything to fix but you can feel they are growing impatient with us as we demand the vehicle to be repaired.
The Idle/Stop function stopped operating at a stop light. The car completely shut off. My wife pressed the brake and ignition but the car did not immediately restart. After a few long minutes, the function worked. This is the second incident with the Honda Pilot. In May 2022, the vehicle stopped at an intersection and cut off. I took it to the Honda Service and had diagnostics ran. I was charged for the test but the Service Department did not find anything wrong. They recommended a new battery which I purchased. This was in May 2022. There is definitely an issue. No use taking it back to the dealer, they don't know the source of the problem.
Driving on the highway, came to a stop due to high volume of traffic, car stopped completely and auto/start turned off the engine itself like it should when brake is stepped on all the way, traffic started to move, let go of the brake to have engine turn back on like it normally would, however this time the engine did not start back on itself, tried to step on the brake and would not allow to press on it. Hit the engine start button light would come on however brake still would not allow to be stepped on, its like it is stuck. Tried this for about 5min and suddenly I was able to press on the brake and start the engine by hitting the start engine button. The component that failed is the engine, auto/start feature, power train, and electrical system. This was a big safety issue and yes it would not only put myself at risk but others safety at risk too. No the problem have not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer No the vehicle or component has not been inspected by anyone No there was no warning when it first appear, it just happen.
While driving I first noticed the radio would shut off- almost like an electric surge (Spring 2021). I brought in to local dealer to assess. Dealer couldn't replicate so was dismissed. Car slipped into "sport" mode randomly (July 2021). Brought in to dealer and couldn't be replicated. Then the car would take longer to start at a stop light. Eventually, at times, the car would NOT START when the brake was released and gas paddle depressed (August 2021). There is no warning or indiction that this will happen. It is periodic, random and unpredictable. The stall out has happened on long and short rides. This has occurred at stop lights, stop and go traffic on a busy highway and entering traffic circles. I could have easily been rear-ended at any of these stalls. I am afraid when driving this car. The dashboard lights up with alerts and the car must be put in park and the start button used to get the car turned on. This takes time to restart the car- further increasing chance of an accident. I have brought the car to the dealer on at least 5 service visits and the problem persists. The dealer reports they were able to reproduce the stall at most recent service visit (6/16/2022). Fuel injector replacements (8/2021), PCM software reboot (10/2021), battery replacement (3rd battery in life of car), and now awaiting valve adjustment (part on national back order). Battery #1 replaced 3/2020, battery #2 replaced 1/2022. The problem persists despite these "fixes". I have requested that the dealer escalate this problem to Honda Corporate.
At least once a week the vehicle shuts off and don’t restart at stop light/ sign.
Keyless start system problem error message even after replacing key fob battery
When the car comes to a stop at a light or intersection, the auto-idle function of the engine engages (indicated on dashboard). When you lift your foot off the break, the radio shorts out, the dashboard flashes, and the engine struggles to restart. This happens regularly. I've even had my vehicle stall in the middle of the road after auto-idle has been engaged (see video). I've taken my vehicle to the Honda dealer several times to be serviced, but each time I'm told they are unable to re-produce the problem. Last time I was at the dealer, I shared this video with them, but they communicated the same message. They can't reproduce my issue and my vehicle is safe to continue driving. I feel strongly that this is a safety issue. If I'm stalled at a busy intersection and drivers behind me are not paying attention, it is likely I'll be hit from behind. The orange engine information light in the video was for a needed oil change that I've since had completed. Video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dnfH1v3bq31HXQWr6
I come to a full stop at a red light at a busy intersection. The auto engine idle shut off engages. When traffic begins to move I lift my foot off the brake. Usually this restarts the car. However, the engine turns off as if it is in Accessory mode. I try to put the car in Park and Turn Off and Turn On, but it requires me waiting a minute or two before I can restart the car. This problem has happened many times and I have reported it to the Curry Honda service in Yorktown Heights, NY (10598) many times. The are aware of the problem and says that there is no fix.
The auto start\stop feature doesn't work and is extremely unsafe and dangerous. I will be sitting at a stop light and when the light turns green I take my foot off the break and the car will completely turn off and error messages will appear. Multiple times it has completely turned off the car and the car couldn't be restarted right away, leaving us stranded in the middle of the street trying to restart the car while cars are going by me. It takes at least a minute for the car to restart once it turns itself off. This has happened at least 10 times. We always turn the feature off when we drive now but sometimes we just forget because it's extremely inconvenient and difficult to remember that we have to turn off the feature every single time we start the car. When we took it to the dealership mechanic they told us we needed a new battery and that would fix the problem. Our battery was still at 50% and yet we still changed it but the problem has never gone away.
When the engine stops when the brake is applied, there are times when the engine shuts down completely, restarting electrical systems and not starting up again. This incredibly scary and dangerous. I have brought it to the dealer who has no idea how to fix it. I read an article that this is something the NHTSA is investigating and am very relieved that there is finally some attention being paid to this problem. I wanted to log my vehicle as being effected also.
The idle shut off feature has shut the car off and then not restarted when it was supposed to. This has happened in two intersections and a stoplight. When it doesn’t restart, I am unable to do anything, shift in to park or restart the car. It is extremely unsafe as it leaves you sitting in the middle of traffic or wherever it decides to leave you and you can’t do anything with the vehicle. There is no warning when it does it. I have not approached the dealer since there is a button to override the feature I figured they would not listen. However I think it is ridiculous that you have to push a button to make sure your vehicle doesn’t die on you while driving. I would like to see the auto idle feature removed from the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The Auto START/STOP system failed to operate as designed and the vehicle would stall and had to manually be restarted. The contact stated that occasionally several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle before the vehicle would perform as designed. The failure had occurred approximately 4-5 times. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
Mileage: 45,000
There is a major and potentially dangerous issue with the idle stop/start feature. When the car is at a stop and the engine shuts off (gas saving feature) and sometimes the car will fail to start again, leaving me stranded in the middle of an intersection or whatever road I'm on. Sometimes all of the collision systems fail to start again (dash warning), sometimes it takes minutes to get it restarted which results in angry drivers behind me and the potential to create an accident. This issue began within a few months of buying the car. I had informed the original Honda dealership where I purchased the car but they failed to properly document the issue because there were no error codes populated by the on-board computer. After it happened dozens of times I took the vehicle to a different dealership and was able to demonstrate the problem directly to a technician after two separate appointment attempts. They then agreed to replace the battery. This helped for a time period of about 9 months and then it started again. I believe there is a wide-spread issue with the computer's ignition system and I'm not alone, although Honda seems to pretend they've never heard of the issue. I have attached my first 'documented' (although it was reported YEARS before this) service report followed by the second in which they finally replaced the battery and admitted fault. I am hopping the NHTSA can investigate and help the owners of these Pilots come to a permanent resolution. Thank you for your time. On multiple occasions with the auto engine restart engaged, the engine has shut off while stopped at a stoplight and then failed to restart the vehicle upon attempting to go. On some occasions, the power blips but the engine restarts. On other occasions, the power blips and the car stalls, leading to having to fully shut the car down and turn it back on, with a successful restart. On a few occasions, this has taken multiple tries leading to the vehicle sitting at a green traffic light for over 15-20 seconds while attempting to restart the engine. This is a safety issue as I am now scared to leave the auto-restart feature engaged for fear of being stuck at a green light and rear-ended. I have tried to turn the feature off, but there is no way to disable it permanently… instead, I have to remember to turn it off at the beginning of each drive. This issue has been ongoing for over two years. I have replaced the battery which did not solve the issue. It has not been looked at by the manufacturer, police, or insurance.
Hello, I was driving down the road and my collision mitigation light quickly flashed on and then went off with no objects in front of me or bad weather or rain. Also, my vehicle felt like it tapped the brakes and the steering wheel slightly jerked a little. It was maybe a half second long and then went back to normal. I kept driving and the vehicle did it once again and then 2 more times. The last time I was pulling up to a light when it did it. I should have pulled over first but I decided to turn the vehicle off and turn it back on to maybe reset the computer. Also, I know the car does this anyway when I have my auto start/stop button on. I usually turn it off when I drive. I've had the vehicle since 2018 with no issues before so I was pretty confident it would immediately start. When I tried to turn the vehicle back on, it had completely lost all power and wouldn't start or give me any sign of power. The scary thing was that I was in rush hour traffic with my young kids in the car and I couldn't put my caution lights on or put the car in gear to push it to the side of the road. Again, I should have pulled over first, but there was no logical reason the vehicle wouldn't start. I put the hood up but nobody behind me could see the hood up. I'm stuck in the middle lane of traffic and had to get out of the car to signal traffic to go around me. I checked my key fob batteries and the vehicle battery connectors and everything was fine. I kept trying to use the key fob to unlock the doors every minute or so to see if I could get any kind of power, as well as try to start the vehicle again. After about 7 minutes or so I regained power and was able to drive home, which was about a half mile away. A message on my dash screen displayed "Anti theft System" "This system has lost power. Push and hold the power button for more than 2 seconds to enable the system". I did this and cleared it. I think the Anti Theft System turning on when it shouldn't is the real issue.
I own a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite, with 65000 miles, that was purchased new. The vehicle has repeatedly stalled at various point of operation. Upon stalling, every light appears to activate on the dashboard. The vehicle remains stalled until the computer "recycles." I can usually restart the vehicle within 2+ minutes. The dealer, located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, has identified the vehicle’s stop-start as the problem. The dealer suggested to turn off the stop-start while driving the vehicle but that is problematic as this needs to be done each time the vehicle engine is turned off and then restarted. The dealer, upon inspection, found some errors in the ECU, but none that would create this problem. The dealer is unable to recreate the problem and admitted that many Honda Pilots have this issue. To possibly fix the problem, the dealer suggested a valve replacement at a cost of $1000+ and a new battery, even though the battery has been tested and is fine. These vehicles are dangerous, and Honda has done nothing to correct the problem.
The auto start/stop is not reliable. I have had three incidents in the past 2 years where if I'm at a light and the car turns off due to the auto stop, it will not restart. I did take it to my dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the battery or any other issue. I have to manually turn the auto stop/start feature off every time I drive the car in fear I will be stranded in an intersection. Very frustrating. It has been an issue for 2.5 years out of almost 5 years of owning the car.
Parked in a lot with vehicle at full temp. Quick Stop. Drove vehicle to exit of lot and stopped to wait for a break in traffic. Vehicle turned off engine with Start/Stop feature. On brake release, the vehicle made an attempt to restart and failed. Took 10 minutes and I had to disconnect the battery to get the vehicle to reset enough to get started again. Had I not had a toolkit in the vehicle, it would have been much longer. During that entire time, the single exit to the parking lot was blocked and there was a significant backup with people going out the entrance. VERY dangerous. This was not the first time the vehicle had failed to restart, but the first where it was not possible from the driver's seat. It was also the last as I installed a device to disable the feature. I've not had any issues with the vehicle since. Start/Stop does not save enough fuel to make it worth the potentially dangerous failure. Feature should be MANDATORY for disabling in every vehicle. I for one will NEVER EVER own a vehicle that it can not be disabled.
When at a stoplight, auto idle causes car to completely stall and shut down and won’t restart unless car turned completely off and try to restart again. This has caused me to be placed in some dangerous situations where I have almost been rear ended from behind. Dealership says that it’s the battery but from hearing from multiple people, this has not fixed the problem. It seems like it’s something electrical with auto idle stop feature.
The auto stop/start feature does not always restart the car when I release the brake after stopping. Mostly in town at stop signs and red lights but recently it happened while I was in stop and go traffic on an interstate. At all locations I was blocking traffic (flashers on of course) and hoping no one hit me while I sat for a few minutes trying to restart my car. From experience I have found that I have to release the brake and push my engine start button a couple times to completely turn off everything then push the brake and button to start the car. A few times it I had to do that cycle several times before it actually restarted. Meanwhile I am in the middle of the road completely blocking traffic. My dealer was “unable to replicate” so my solution has been to turn off that feature. Unfortunately, auto stop/start is automatically on every time I start my car … so this happens when I forget to turn it off. There are times that it works and the car restarts but even then the electrical system shuts down. Radio turns off and back on as the car is restarting and dash lights turn off then on, which reminds me to once again turn the feature off. I have had a lot of electrical issues with this car due to a sunroof leak so I chalked it up to my ongoing electrical problems until I saw the article today about other complaints from people having the same issue. The date listed below was the most recent incident but it has occurred many times.
Vehicle will stall out at an intersection, or stop sign after the auto restart shuts the car off. When I lift my foot off the brake for the gas peddle, the entire car stalls and I get a series of warning lights and messages about shifting the car into gear before restarting. Despite attempts to restart the car, I'm generally stranded for 1-2 mins. I brought the issue up to the dealership last time I brought the car in. After 1 test drive they claimed to have found no issues, and that if it happened again I should "film it happening with my phone". This is now the 4th time this has happened within the last 6 months.
Periodically, while using automatic engine idle stop, when I release the brake to restart the engine, the engine will shut off and not turn on. Only pushing and holding the start button will restart the engine after about a minute. Also, more often, when the engine restarts, all electronics will flicker off then on.
Multiple times the vehicle has shutoff when the it has reached a complete stop at a traffic light and has not restarted on its own. Took it to dealer but they could not recreate it supposedly. In addition fuel pump issues and the Honda dealer is not able to obtain parts to the fix the vehicle. Feels like a lemon vehicle.
On numerous occasions when engine has automatically stopped, it has failed to restart to allow continued driving.
Auto on/off issue. Vehicle did not restart after auto shut off. Luckily not in a place where it caused a traffic problem. After a minute or so of being off the vehicle being completely off it started up again. After it sputtered a few more occasions, I have been turning off the feature manually each time I start the car now. Honda doesn’t allow you to permanently turn it off. It has to be done each time.
I have taken my car 5 times to the dealership due to it stalling at red lights or when stopped. This happens with the idle engine is engaged. It has almost caused wrecks due to shutting off and not turning back on. In addition, we are now having to replace the keyless access control system due to electrical issues that caused a severe crackling, alarm sounding, immobilizer activated. the only way the car wouldnt alarm was if it is unlocked.
Engine dies after idle stop enables at traffic light or stop sign. Car then needs to be jumped to restart
Engine dies after idle stop enables at traffic light or stop sign. Car then needs to be jumped to restart
When parked, the car anti-theft alarms will honk loudly waking up everyone noisily; the headlights will be turn on & keep running (even if it is manually turned off); the dashboard lights will be flickering; relays clicking; and sometimes the car will turn itself on. The noise & lights can't be turned off from the keyfob. The only way to silence it is to disconnect the battery and leave the car unlocked which is not safe when parked in the street or anywhere.
While driving, I noticed a stall with the speed then I immediately noticed that the shift gear was on N position, apparently the shift gear was pushed accidentally even without pushing the button on the side to change gear. Also, my car kept randomly alarming and with static flashing on the dashboard while on park. I already changed the battery thinking its the battery problem but the alarming persisted. I took it to Honda and was told it's the keyless unit system, needs replacement and will cost around $900. Upon checking online, I learned that there was a recall for 2016-2017 Honda Pilot in 2020 for the same problem but when I called Honda I was told my car VIN was not part of the recall. How is that possible when my car is showing the same problem and also manufactured in 2017? How can my car's VIN be included in the recall. Pls help me have my car fixed.
When parked, the car begins to try to turn on. The interior lights flash, systems fire and the battery drains. Twice I was left stranded having to rely on tow trucks, replacing batteries that were still functional and running car continuously in order to not drain it since it is my only car and I needed reliable vehicle to get to my kids. I could have been stranded in unsafe areas, thus impacting the safety of myself and family. There was no warnings before this happened the first time. Then, after changing the battery, it went another week without issue and then randomly happened again, without warning or indicators. It was looked at by 2 mechanics, the first (Christian brothers automotive) could not find a problem. The second (Honda dealership) diagnosed it as “body control module failure-code b12d3”. They were not able to fix my car after diagnosing the problem today because they didn’t have the part in stock. So, I am now having to disconnect my battery every time I park to prevent it from draining the battery and honking. As a single mom, with only one vehicle, this will be a long wait until the part arrives and can be fixed. On top of the exorbitant wait, the repair quote is $861.63 to correct. This is a manufacturing malfunction for which I do not believe should be my financially responsibility. Honda cars have had recalls of the BCM modules starting with the 2018 models. It is not a huge stretch to assume the 2017 pilot BCM was flawed as well. I hope this is made right, a recall issued and my repairs expedited and paid for by Honda.
The auto Start-Stop function is not working properly. In several occasions when the engine stops at a red light the engine will not start again. This has caused many dangerous situations as we got stuck in the middle of an intersection. The dealer has not been able to identify the problem. Also linked to this electrical problem is at time all kids of electrical warning messages appear in the cluster. I expect this to be an electrical/battery related problem.
The Auto Idle will kill the engine at a stoplight and force you to restart the vehicle when the light turns green. It is dangerous, and have caused many near accidents and frustrated drivers.
The camera assembly - monocular unit mounted in front of the rear view mirror just stopped working. It’s responsive for a multitude of safety systems, such as: Automatic Emergency Braking, Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Asst.
For the past few months, I have been having issues with my vehicle stalling. This issue occurs while stopped at red lights, stop signs, and while sitting in stop and go traffic. My vehicle is equipped with the Auto Start/Stop feature, and while stopped at a stop sign for instance, the vehicle will auto stop but fail to auto start when taking my foot off the brake and hitting the gas. This has happened on numerous occasions, putting those in the vehicle and those in other vehicles around my vehicle at risk. I brought my vehicle to my local dealership, at which point they checked it and found nothing wrong with the vehicle. They also stated that they, and the vehicle manufacturer were aware of the issue, but have no solution for it. The first time I brought the vehicle in, the dealer told me that a possible fix was an update to the system, however I would have to pay for the update. After the service adviser spoke with the service manager a few times, the dealership paid for the $220 update. The vehicle has since continued to stall, the only thing that seems to assist is to turn off the Auto Start/Stop feature every time the vehicle is turned on. Last Thursday, the vehicle stalled again on my wife with our son in the vehicle at a t-intersection. The vehicle failed to start for approximately 10-15 minutes. I contacted my dealer again and was advised to bring my vehicle in. I brought it in and was told that I could have a rental car, but that I would need to approve paying a $160 diagnostic fee. They were unsure of a permanent solution for the problem.
Alarms go off for no reason. The display shows Keyless Start System Problem.
Vehicle randomly does not automatically restart after the auto engine idle stop engages when in stop-and-go traffic or when stopped at an intersection, resulting in a stalled vehicle in the middle of traffic. Takes multiple attempts of hitting the start-stop button to restart the vehicle. Have taken the vehicle to the dealer numerous times and each time told they can't figure out what causes the problem, but they replaced the battery at a cost of $500...didn't fix the problem. No warning indicators before the vehicle stalls, the engine simply doesn't start again after the brake is released, which should disengage the auto idle.
Our 2017 pilot tries to turn on by itself, with the electronics in the dashboard starting and engine compartment relays firing, along with the exterior lights turning on without any driver being present or attempting to start the car. It happens even without the keys being present. As a result, the battery drains while the car is parked. We took our car to the dealership where we bought it and they confirmed the issue and stated we needed to replace our keyless access/TPMS unit to start and that we may need to a new start/stop switch. It cost $190.83 with tax to access. The car is serviced at Klein Honda in Everett, WA. The R/O number for the service visit is 652453/1. Instances of other Honda owners experiencing similar car issues can be found here: https://www.piloteers.org/threads/control-unit-problems.168522/ I noted that the 2016-2017 honda pilots have a recall/service bulletin for the start/stop switch (Honda Service Bulletin 20-117) and was told by the dealership my car is not included. I find that very disappointing since I own a 2017 honda pilot. I was quoted a repair cost of $967.36 + tax. This did not include the cost of the part (part number 38320-TG7-A32) costing $469.36 with tax. Therefore the total cost of the repair is greater than $1500. I ordered the part on March 16, 2022 and it is on back-order with no expected arrival date. I cannot currently drive my car because the battery is constantly being drained when the car is off due to this error. Our low-mileage 2017 Pilot (delivered on 5/31/17) should not have the failure(s) noted above. I am not aware of a greater recall that addresses the failure(s) and was told that our car is outside of the manufacturers warranty that could cover this since it is not part of the powertrain.
My car keeps stalling after being in the idle engine mode. At intersections waiting to turn left, or sitting in traffic on the freeway, at a 4 way stop, it has happened numerous times in the past year where the engine is in idle mode while my foot is on the brake, and when my foot comes off to switch to gas, the gear shifts to N automatically. It's seizing up and I can't hit the button to switch back to Drive or Park. I have to turn the whole car off and that takes awhile to do that too. Every time I go to the dealership, they do a quick battery test and it's been in the normal range. They cannot replicate the issue. There have been so many times I've created a traffic hazard, stalled traffic, and almost been hit by a car. They finally advised I turn off the engine idle option but then it defeats the whole purpose to be environmentally friendly. There is something wrong with the electronics or battery with the car. It is a huge safety issue that is not being taken seriously at the dealership.
Driving into work, busy road/heavy traffic, the auto-stop engine function engaged. It shut down the entire car and would not restart after releasing the brake. I had to put on flasher, and then restart the car as normal. Component failure: Auto-Stop Safety issue: Could be rear-ended, or worse if this happened in an intersection Vehicle will be inspected tomorrow by Honda. This problem has occurred before.
It appears the Power Control Module is failing on this vehicle. Honda should recall this part. Basically, it goes off automatically. The alarm will go off at random times, which I actually had to disable, as it would wake us and our neighbors up at all times throughout the night. The dashboard lights up and blinks randomly. You can hear clicking sounds. A lot of people online who have had the same issue report that replacing the Power Control Module is the only fix. They have tried replacing the battery, the ignition switch and other parts to avail. This first happened about 6-months ago. I also recorded the issue that is happening, but the below evidence upload will not accept video. Please let me know if you want me to provide the video.
This is a random issue that has now happened 3 times in the past couple of months. When the auto idle system is engaged and going to restart, the car stalls. You are stuck in an intersection, at a light, etc. You then have to figure out how to restart the car, which isn't easy, the start button has to be pushed multiple times as you are trying not to panic.
When the vehicle is off, there's a clicking sound and the dashboard turns off and on randomly as if it's possessed. Also, the air bag lights go on. It does this even when the car is completely off. The keyless remote problem also lights up even though this was repaired last year.
On my way to work yesterday, I took my exit and stopped at the light where the idle engine function enabled and then my car completely shut off on its own. It took multiple tries to restart the car. Meanwhile, the light turned green, multiple cars were honking at me, and could have most certainly rear ended me. If it was the next street over, it would have been quite a dangerous situation as it is a super busy area. Upon taking it to the dealership today, they cannot figure out the issue.
In the past week, my Pilot has stalled for no known reason. Both times the vehicle was stopped and the feature that idles the car down to conserve energy was activated. When I let off the brake instead of the car restarting or gearing up and accelerating, the car just died. Warning lights went off on the dash, but the car wouldn't restart for at least a minute both times. No warning lights were on the dash before the incident and after the car restarted, no warning lights remained lit on the dash. I took my car to an automotive store and had them check the battery, the alternator and the starter - all of these came back as being in perfect condition. I was extremely scared when both of these incidents occurred. One time I was at the bottom of an exit ramp of a busy interstate and the other occurred on an interstate in stop and go traffic. In addition to these two incidents, for the past 2 years, the car has been having issues after it idles down and then should restart and accelerate. About 2-3 times per month, when the car is stopped and has idled down, when I let off the brake and accelerate, the electrical system will flash on and off. The entire dash goes dark, the audio goes off and comes back on, etc. The entire electrical system reboots. When this happens, it does not impact the ability of the car to accelerate because it is more like a flash - the car doesn't die and have to be restarted. I am taking my car into the Honda dealer on Monday to attempt to diagnose the problem, but from the research I've done, may other Pilot owners are having the same problem and their dealers aren't able to find an error code caused by these issues. I have been attempting to get a video of this when it happens, but so far, I've been unable to reproduce the issue.
In my 2017 Honda Pilot Elite the auto idle stop feature has more frequently failed to restart the vehicle when stopped at a traffic light. This leaves the car stalled in traffic instead of restarting after I take my foot off the brake (which is when the system should be restarting the engine). This failure occurs whether I press the gas pedal or just take my foot off the brake. It began happening around the 30,000 mile mark and the vehicle now has 56,000. I notice it most often occurs when the auto idle stop function engages at the first traffic light after a period (approx. more than 20 minutes) of freeway driving. The only way I have found to recover from the stall is to place depress the brake, place the car in Park, press the engine Start/Stop button twice (once to shut off the car then again to restart it), and then place the vehicle in drive and release the brake. Sometimes this process needs to be repeated. My vehicle is almost always in ECON mode. The issue happens whether or not the radio is on. My map is almost always displayed when I am driving.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the keyless warning, power steering, emissions, and hill assist warning lights activated, and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The contact recently received a TSB notice from the manufacturer regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 60,951.

Driving to work in the morning after owning the car for a few years and and dash displays "Keyless Start System Problem".
When stopped long enough to engage the auto idle function the car does not always recover immediately to drive. The car completely shuts down and usually restarts. This has occurred a few times in the past couple weeks and I have been trying to capture it on video to show the dealership. Yesterday it shut down and did not restart. It took many seconds (20-30) to be able to turn it back on and put it back into gear. We were stuck with cars behind us honking. When this happens all the lights on the dash light up so there is not one warning that indicates what the problem is. A car randomly failing to function is a safety issue. Especially since there is nothing the driver can do to remedy the situation. We have not taken the car in to a mechanic yet as this happened over the weekend. The car will be going to Honda. An internet search shows this is not an isolated issue.
Keyless Start System problem. Deelership said the problem is with the push button Engine start stop and had to be replaced and said it’s a common problem.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced various electrical failures while driving and stationary. The contact stated that the security alarm independently activated without incidence. The contact also stated that an abnormal crackling sound was coming from the engine with several warning lights flashing on the instrument panel. After replacing the battery, the headlights independently illuminated while the vehicle was shut-off. The contact restarted the vehicle and manually turned off the headlights however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Vehicle's LED Daytime Running Lights no longer operational. This is a known issue among owners and affects the visibility of the vehicle when operating during daylight hours. Further, the nighttime visibility is significantly decreased as those LES lights add to the roadway illumination capabilities.
I HAD STARTED NOTICING THE RADIO CLICKING ON/OFF AT STOPLIGHTS. AFTER A WHILE, IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS ALSO SLIGHTLY JERKING TOO AS THE CAR RE-STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE. DAYS BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2020, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RE-CREATE THE ISSUE AND DID NOT SEE ANY ERROR CODES. I RECEIVED THE MIL WARRANTY EXTENSION LETTER RECENTLY AND WONDERED IF THAT WAS THE SAME ISSUE, BUT IT DOES NOT APPEAR SO. HOWEVER UPON RESEARCHING THAT, I FOUND MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE AUTO IDLE STOP ISSUES. I AM GRATEFUL MY CAR HAS NEVER STALLED (YET) BUT THAT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE I HAVE VERY LOW MILEAGE. HOWEVER I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR NOW AND ALWAYS DISABLE THE AUTO IDLE STOP, HOPE THAT I DON'T FORGET WHICH I DO SOMETIMES AND AM FEARFUL SHOULD MY TEENAGERS EVER HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR! THANKFULLY THEIR HONDA CIVICS DON'T HAVE THIS FEATURE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD! THERE ARE TOO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS SO PLEASE FORCE HONDA TO RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS NEW CAR SINCE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MORE ADVANCED AND SAFER THAN THE 15 YEAR OLD CAR IT REPLACED. IT DOES HAVE SOME GREAT ADVANCES BUT SHOULD NOT BE COMPROMISED OR COME AT THE COST OF SAFETY.
THERE IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM ON MY 2017 HONDA PILOT ELITE THAT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE WITH THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE. WHEN IT ENGAGES (I.E., STOPS THE ENGINE SUCH AS AT A STOP LIGHT), AT TIMES IT WOULD BARELY START BACK UP AGAIN. WHEN THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR, WHEN IT RESTARTED AFTER THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE WAS ENGAGED, IT SOUNDED LIKE A CAR TRYING TO START WITH A BAD BATTERY - IT BARELY TURNED OVER, BUT FINALLY DID START. HOWEVER, ON 5/11/2021, IT DID NOT START AT ALL AFTER THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE ENGAGED. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND HAD SEVERAL CARS BEHIND ME. I WAS ON A SLOPE AND WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULL IT OFF TO THE TURN LANE AND OUT OF TRAFFIC. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START THE CAR UP AGAIN. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO GET WORSE UNTIL SOMEBODY CAN DIAGNOSE IT. I'VE SEARCHED DISCUSSION BOARDS AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BUT I'VE NOT FOUND A DIAGNOSIS YET.

AFTER EXITING AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, THE AUTO-STOP FEATURE ENGAGED. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED THE ENGINE STARTED AND THE CAR MOVED FORWARD A FEW FEET THEN SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. THERE WAS A MOMENTARY WARNING TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT IT DISAPPEARED WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND ALL SCREENS WENT BLANK. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE START BUTTON, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT START. I RELEASED AND PRESSED THE BRAKE AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK AND I HAD TO PUSH THE DRIVE BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT TO ENGAGE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC BECAUSE I WAS BLOCKING THE EXIT AND THE ROAD. AFTER THE ENGINE STARTED IT TOOK SOME TIME FOR ALL THE SYSTEMS TO POWER UP.

SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR, THE WHEELS MAKE A CRACKING NOICE WHEN TURNING AND BRAKING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER 2-3 TIMES AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT IT MAY JUST BE THE BRAKE PADS STICKING SOME TIMES. NOW AT 55,000 MILES THE POWER STEERING EPS AND ALL OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. THIS HAD NOT HAPPENED IN THE PAST. I HAVE READ UP ON IT AND OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MY MAIN CONCERN SINCE I PURCHASED IT WAS THAT CRACKING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEN BACKING UP OR TURNING WHEN GOING FORWARD. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON STARTING TO DRIVE NOT AT FAST SPEEDS. NOW ALL THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS. FROM RESEARCH IT SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE SOMETHING WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS. MY CAR IS ALREADY PAST IT'S WARRANTY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO SCENE AS MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL OR TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND RECEIVED A POLICE ESCORT TO WEST BROAD HONDA (7014 W BROAD ST, RICHMOND, VA 23294) HOWEVER, A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

MY 2017 HONDA PILOT ELITE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE AUTO START/STOP "FEATURE". THIS FEATURE CAN BE DISABLED, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY - YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR. SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS MY CAR HAS TOTALLY DIED WHEN I'M AT STOP LIGHTS OR INTERSECTIONS. THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ENGAGES AND SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF, BUT WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND DIES, AND THE CAR MOVES TO NEUTRAL. I'VE FIGURED OUT AT THIS POINT THAT I NEED TO SHIFT TO PARK, AND THEN PUSH THE START BUTTON, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES TO START. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSIEST INTERSECTION IN TOWN WITH CARS WHIZZING AROUND ME. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE IT (IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME) AND THERE'S NO ERROR CODE SO "AT THIS POINT" THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY SAID THEY'D NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE, BUT A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH TURNED UP MANY FORUMS ON WHICH PEOPLE ARE RAISING THIS VERY DANGEROUS, POTENTIALLY DEADLY ISSUE. HERE'S A SAMPLE: HTTPS://WWW.PILOTEERS.ORG/THREADS/ELITE-SHUTS-OFF-AT-STOP-LIGHT.157005/ HTTPS://WWW.CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/HONDA/PILOT/ENGINE-SHUT-OFF-WITHOUT-WARNING-PROBLEMS.PHP HTTPS://COMMUNITY.CARTALK.COM/T/2017-HONDA-PILOT-STALLING-AT-INTERSECTIONS/161704 HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/HONDA/PILOT/2016/ENGINE/ENGINE.SHTML HTTPS://WWW.VEHIE.COM/COMPLAINTS/HONDA?VEHIE_MODEL=PILOT I'M NOW LOOKING AT TRADING THIS CAR IN FOR A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T HAVE THIS "FEATURE" BUT AM WORRIED ABOUT THE FAMILY THAT PURCHASES THE CAR - IT'S NOT FAIR TO THEM. PLEASE MAKE HONDA RECALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS "FEATURE" AND LET US DISABLE THE FEATURE PERMANENTLY, RATHER THAN EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR.

VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART AFTER ENGINE AUTO IDLE ENGAGES. WHEN LIFTING FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO BEGIN DRIVING CAR WILL NOT RESTART AND SAYS YOU MUST GO INTO PARK AND PRESS BRAKE. RADIO AND LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. EVEN AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK AND PRESSING BRAKE IT WILL NOT START. AFTER REMOVING FOOT FROM BRAKE AND PRESSING STOP CAR WILL COMPLETELY TURN OFF. WE CAN THEN PRESS START AND CAR WILL USUALLY START WITHIN THREE OR FOUR TRIES. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES, WITH THE LAST BEING IN THE CENTER LANE OF A MAJOR FREEWAY. TRAFFIC CAME TO A STOP AND WHEN WE STARTED GOING AGAIN I WAS COMPLETELY STUCK IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH CARS GOING ALL AROUND ME. HAS ALSO HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AT STOPLIGHTS AND IN DRIVE THROUGHS. I TRY AND ALWAYS DISABLE THIS FEATURE BUT FORGET SOMETIMES.

WHILE AT A RED LIGHT, THE AUTO IDLE ENGINE FEATURE COMPLETELY STALLS THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAT I CAN COUNT AT THIS POINT. BASICALLY, IF I LEAVE THE FEATURE ON, AT SOME POINT IN ROUTE, IT WILL STALL. OF COURSE, I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE COMPUTER DOESN'T REGISTER/READ ANY KIND OF CODE OR ERROR. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS COMPLETELY DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN, RADIO, LIGHTS EVERYTHING. WHEN THE BRAKE IS RELEASED, IT SEEMS TO TRY TO FIRE UP, BUT STALLS INSTEAD. LIGHTS ARE PROJECTED ONTO THE DASH SAYING "TO START ENGINE: BRAKE + PEDAL". THIS DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY START THE CAR. IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES AND LATELY I HAVE FOUND THAT I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT OFF OF THE PEDAL AND HIT THE START BUTTON TO TURN "OFF" THE VEHICLE (EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALREADY STALLED). THEN, I CAN START IT. I AM ALWAYS IN A BUSY INTERSECTION AT A RED LIGHT WHEN THIS OCCURS WHICH IS FRIGHTENING. IT HAS TAKEN UP TO TWO MINUTES TO GET IT RESTARTED AND LIGHTS HAVE TURNED GREEN, HORNS HAVE BEEN BLASTED AND I HAVE BEEN SWERVED AROUND BY ONCOMING (BEHIND) VEHICLES.

THIS PROBLEM INVOLVES THE AUTO-IDLE STOP FEATURE OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE STOPPED IN A LONG LINE OF CARS, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, I HAD BEEN MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY IN THIS LINE. EACH TIME I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE RESTARTS AUTOMATICALLY, AND I PULL FORWARD. THEN, WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE AGAIN AND STOP, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, BUT USUALLY GOES INTO ACCESSORY MODE. FIRST, THIS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION AND THE RADIO, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD SHUT DOWN, INCORRECTLY, THEN RESTART ONCE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. BUT THEN, ON THIS PARTICULAR SATURDAY, WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE ONE PARTICULAR TIME...THE CAR DID NOT RESTART. THE WHOLE CAR, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. I THEN TRIED TO MANUALLY RESTART THE CAR BY PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND PRESSING THE START BUTTON. THE CAR JUST CLICKED, AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART!! I TRIED OVER AND OVER, AND NOTHING! I HAD 40 + CARS BEHIND ME IN THIS LINE! EVERYONE WAS BEEPING THEIR HORN AND IMPATIENT. I THEN TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL SO I COULD TRY TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY AND THE LINE....BUT THE DASH WARNING MESSAGE SAID THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT IN NEUTRAL WITHOUT THE CAR BEING STARTED!! THE CAR WAS DEAD! I COULDN'T MOVE IT, I COULDN'T TURN ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS, NOTHING! IT WAS A BAD SITUATION. I HAD TO CALL A FRIEND TO BRING JUMPER CABLES TO JUMP START THE CAR. BUT IT CLEARLY WAS NOT A BATTERY ISSUE. THE BATTERY WAS CHECKED AFTER I GOT THE CAR STARTED AGAIN...AND IT IS FULLY CHARGED! SO THIS WAS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THE AUTO- IDLE STOP FEATURE!! I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE! IT'S PUT MANY PEOPLE IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. I REPORTED THIS TO HONDA USA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND A RECALL PUT IN EFFECT!
Mileage: 31,200
AUTO IDLE STOPPED ENGINE WAITING IN TRAFFIC AND THEN IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, PRESSED THE GAS AND NOTHING WOULD WORK. EVENTUALLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN IT "OFF" AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON.

FEW MINUTES AFTER MY WIFE GOT HOME THE CAR ALARM BEGAN BEEPING AND THERE WAS A FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. WE CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE KEPT GETTING BIGGER. ONCE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE WE SAW A HUGE DAMAGE ON THE CAR. WE DON'T KNOW HOW THE FIRE COULD HAVE STARTED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OFF . WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS COMPANY'S CAR.

THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED OR AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN IDLING, FLIPS FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. THE THE BATTERY LIGHTS RED AND THE OIL LIGHTS RED ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE SEEMINGLY SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK, PRESS THE START/STOP BUTTON AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTS. IT GENERALLY HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW EPISODICALLY, BUT NOT OVER LONG STRETCHES OF TIME. IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE UNTIL IT HAPPENS THE NEXT TIME.

AUTO ENGINE IDLE WILL NOT START THE CAR BACK UP SOMETIMES. IF I FORGET TO DISABLE THE AUTO ENGINE AUTO BEFORE EACH TRIP, SOMETIMES WE WILL STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. THE PROBLEM IS THAT PERIODICALLY, THE ENGINE WILL NOT START BACK UP WHEN WE ARE READY TO GO. THE WHOLE CAR SHUTS OFF AND THERE IS A SPECIFIC ORDER OF PRESSING THE BRAKE AND PUSHING BUTTONS THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH TO START THE CAR BACK UP. VERY DANGEROUS WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC. HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO SOLUTION. I HAVE A VIDEO OF IT AFTER IT IS SHUT DOWN, BUT CANNOT ATTACH IT BECAUSE IT IS MORE THAN 5MB.

THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT WILL NOT SHIFT OFF. *TR
ELECTRICAL ISSUES INCLUDE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM FAILURE, AUTO-LOCK NO LONGER LOCKING THE VEHICLE AS YOU WALK AWAY FROM IT, CRASH MITIGATION SYSTEM FAILURE, RADIO STATIONS NO LONGER COMING IN CLEAR. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THEY HAVE ADJUSTED SOMETHING BUT THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN.

STOPPING THE FULL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TURNS ON THEN OFF. THIS HAPPENED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN THE CITY, ON A HILL WITH STOP SIGN IN SAN FRANCISCO OR CITY, IT ALSO HAPPENS IN DRIVE THROUGH BASICALLY WHENEVER YOU STOP FROM A MOVING MOTION. THE DASH INFORMATION SYSTEM FLASHES AND FLICKERS, THE PILOT THEN HAS TO BE PUT INTO PARK AND PUSH START BUTTON TO TURN THE MOTOR BACK ON. THIS HAS.BEEN DANGEROUS AS THIS ISSUE HAS BURNED OUT A BATTERY AND HAD TO TOW THE PILOT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIDN'T REIMBURSE AND SAID IT WAS A MAINTENANCE BATTERY ISSUE. I HAVE FOLLOWED MY WIFE IN ANOTHER CAR AND THE TAIL LIGHTS AND THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT FLICKER. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AS THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT INVESTIGATE AS THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE,
THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND WHEN IT FINALLY DID AND WE PULLED OUT WE RECEIVED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WARNING

KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR APPEARING ON DASHBOARD. VEHICLE HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT. ELECTRICAL IS GOING HAYWIRE IN THAT LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON, ALL ERROR LIGHTS FLASH ON DASH AND DASH TRIES TO BOOT THROUGH VARIOUS IGNITION STATES (ACCESSORY MODE, IDLE, ETC). CAR ALARM WILL RANDOMLY GO OFF, AND IT TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES TO DISENGAGE ALARM BECAUSE KEY FOB NOT WORKING CORRECTLY WHEN ALARM IS ENGAGED. HAD TO DISCONNECT CAR BATTERY TO MAKE IT STOP. KEY FOB BATTERIES WERE REPLACED 6 MONTHS AGO SO NOT THAT. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART AND THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND WOULD PAY FOR ABOUT 90% OF THE COST OF PARTS AND LABOR, SO THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. DEALERSHIP SPENT ROUGHLY 2 HOURS RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS ON IT. HAPPENS RANDOMLY (3 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 4 WEEKS) WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED IN GARAGE, AND KEY FOBS ARE SITTING OUT, FACE UP, NOT BEING PRESSED IN ANY MANNER THAT MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY ENGAGE A BUTTON.

MY WIFE HAS REPORTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT WHEN THE IDLE-STOP FEATURE IS TURNED ON AND THE VEHICLE HAS COME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE CUTS AS INTENDED BUT WILL NOT RESTART WHEN PRESSURE IS RELEASED FROM THE BRAKE. NUMEROUS LIGHTS WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ILLUMINATE, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE SAYS TO SHIFT INTO "PARK", PRESS AND HOLD THE BRAKE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE USING THE START/STOP BUTTON. I HAVE TRIED TO DUPLICATE THIS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY, THIS SAME OCCURRENCE HAPPENED TO ME ONLY I WAS NOT ABLE TO READILY RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS LATEST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. MY WIFE REPORTS HAVING HAD THIS OCCUR AT LEAST SIX TO SEVEN TIMES, ONCE WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO HONDA IN THE PAST BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLE JJUTTERING AT LOW SPEEDS AND BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE WAS FOUND AND THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS ISSUE IS A POTENTIAL DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN.

WHILE STOPPED THE AUTO STOP ENGAGES TURNS OFF THE ENGINE AND IF THE AC IS RUNNING AT THAT TIME, INSTEAD OF THE THE ENGINE RESTARTING WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS ENGAGED, THE CAR STALLS AND SHUTS DOWN. DEALER STATES CANNOT CORRECT THE ISSUE (PERMANENTLY TURN OFF AUTO STOP). I SEE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS SO FAR RELATED TO THIS DESIGN ERROR BUT NO ACTION IN TERMS OF RECALLS.

I HAVE 30,000+ MILES ON MY 2017 PILOT ELITE. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE AUTO IDEL STOP FEATURE. I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WAS HESITATING WHEN THE ENGINE WOULD START UP UPON LIFTING MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS. LATER, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ENGINE HESITATION, I NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WOULD ALSO "CUT OUT" AND THE WHOLE CAR WOULD TURN OFF AND BACK BEFORE BEING ABLE TO DRIVE. AFTER THAT, THE ISSUE PROGRESSED TO THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STALLING OUT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH PARK, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUSH START IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. THESE STALL OUTS ARE HAPPENING JUST AS I PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC, OFTEN LEAVING ME AND MY FAMILY IN HARM'S WAY. THIS IS NOT SAFE. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I GET THE STANDARD LINE OF "WE CAN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE" AND I AM SENT ON MY WAY ONLY TO LATER CONTINUALLY EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE. NOT HAPPY WITH HONDA. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO MAKE THEM ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

THE 2017 PILOT STALLS WHILE IN OPERATION DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE AUTO-OFF WHILE IDLE FEATURE. WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND WILL OFTEN NOT RESTART AS INTENDED WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE WILL ALSO SHUT OFF IF YOU PRESS THE AUTO-ENGINE-OFF WHILE IDLE BUTTON TO DEACTIVATE THE IDLE-OFF FEATURE IF PRESSED WHILE COMPLETELY STOPPED. FOR ALL OF THESE SITUATIONS IT IS DIFFICULT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT REMAINS STALLED ON THE ROAD FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE. IT'S TERRIFYING. THIS BEGAN BEFORE 25K MILES ON THE CAR - WHICH COST AROUND $42,000. THIS IS HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES A WEEK. IT'S UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE THIS YOUNG TO BE PUTTING FAMILIES IN DANGER.

AT APPRX 50K MILES (MARCH 2020), DISPLAY PANEL INTERMITTENTLY INDICATED "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" AND NOW (SEPT 2020) THAT ERROR CODE IS CONSTANT. FOR A FEW DAYS RECENTLY THE ERROR CODE DISAPPEARED, BUT IT CAME BACK... THE CODE SHOWS WHEN YOU START THE CAR. THE CAR DOES START EVERY TIME BUT I AM WORRYING THAT ONE DAY IT MAY NOT. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND DID SOME OF THE REMEDIES (CHANGE THE FOB BATTERY, PRESS THE BRAKE FOR 30 SECS WHILE THE CAR IS ON) BUT THE ERROR CODE REMAINS. SEEMS A LOT OF OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. I CALLED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REP WHO SAID HE COMES ACROSS THE PROBLEM A FEW TIMES EVERY WEEK AND DOES REPLACE THE KEYLESS STARTER BUTTON.

CAR WAS FINE ALL DAY. PARKED WITH THE ENGINE SHUT OFF FOR TWO HOURS WHOLE I WAS WAITING FOR MY KIDS. WHEN I PICKED THEM UP AND STARTED THE CAR, IT HAS A WARNING. MY 2017 HONDA PILOT ONLY HAS A LITTLE MORE THAN 38,000 MI AND NOW IT'S SAYING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM". I HAVE READ A LOT OF ARTICLES WITH THE 2016 AND 2017 HONDA PILOTS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS EVEN AFTER I CHANGED MY BATTERY FOR MY KEY FOB, THINKING IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM. I TRIED BOTH KEY FOBS, PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.

THE ENGINE WITH SHUTS OFF NORMALLY WHEN I COME TO A STOP WHEN I HAVE THE SYSTEM ENGAGED. THE PROBLEMS BEGIN WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK EXPECTING THE ENGINE TO START UP AGAIN. WHAT HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY (THOUGH NOT ALL THE TIME) IS THAT WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, SHIFTS ITSELF INTO NUETRAL, AND I HAVE TROUBLE GETTING THE ENGINE TO START UP AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED TWO SEPARATE TIMES. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT.

WHEN MY 2017 HONDA PILOT TOURING ENTERS IDLE STOP MODE, IT HAS BEGUN TO STALL WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE TO RE-ENGAGE THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED FIRST IN A PARKING LOT ON 6/17/20 WHEN LEAVING PARKING AREA TO ENTER MAIN ROAD. VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL. MUST PUT IT INTO PARK. THEN HIT START BUTTON. THEN PUT VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP (UNDER WARRANTY) ON 6/23/20. COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT IDENTIFIED CODES: P170B-DOG CLUTCH A ABNORMAL OPERATION, U0230-GAUGE LOST COMM W/PTG, U1281-GAUGE LOST COMM W/MICU, U0199-MICU LOST COMM W/MASTER SWITCH, U0180-CLIMATE CONTROL LOST COMM W/MASTER SWITCH. TECHNICIAN NOTED IN REPORT THAT THEY INSPECTED THE FREEZE DATA, TRANS HAD NO INPUT SPEED, SO CODE MUST HAVE SET DURING AN IDLE STOP. THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THEY RESET THE CODE AND ASKED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IN IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON A BRIDGE CROSSING THE COLUMBIA RIVER ON 6/23/20, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC IN THE CENTER LANE OF THE BRIDGE. AFTER ONE OF MANY SHORT IDLE STOPS (ENGINE OFF FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND) I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE STALLED. SAME ISSUE. SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL. MUST PUT IN PARK. HIT START BUTTON (TWICE). ENGINE STARTS. SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. TOOK 30-60 SECONDS WHILE TRAFFIC TRIES TO MANEUVER AROUND ME. LUCKY I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE QUEUE (NOT BACK) AS TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES WOULD IMPLY TO THE DRIVER BEHIND ME THAT I WILL BE MOVING AGAIN. DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD ULTIMATELY LEAD TO INJURY/DEATH. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THEY DID NOT FIND ANY CODES THIS TIME. TRIED TO RETURN MY VEHICLE TO ME WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. I ARGUED PER MY PREVIOUS VISIT THAT THEY HAD RESET THE CODES AND ASKED ME TO RETURN IF THIS RECURRED. AWAITING RESOLUTION.

WHILE TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-95 FROM BALTIMORE, MD TO WASHINGTON D.C., NEAR KENILWORTH AVENUE, THE ENGINE IDLE SHUTOFF ON MY 2017 HONDA PILOT TOURING ENGAGED WHEN I WAS FORCED TO STOP DUE TO A TRAFFIC SLOWDOWN. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, INSTEAD OF RESTARTING AS IT SHOULD HAVE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STALLED. I SHIFTED INTO "PARK", ENGAGED MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. WHILE STOPPED, I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING AS SOON AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. I WAS IN A CENTER LANE AND UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE OR MOVE IT FROM TRAFFIC. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND SEVERAL MORE TRIES. I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE IDLE SHUTOFF AND THE DEALER HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY, WHICH I THOUGHT HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THIS TIME IT HAPPENED THEY SAY THE BATTERY IS GOOD AND "CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM". THERE IS A BROAD BASE OF INTERNET POSTINGS FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 2016 - 2018 PILOT ELITE AND TOURING VEHICLES, WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION. THERE IS NO WAY TO PERMANENTLY TURN THIS FEATURE OFF AND I BELIEVE IT REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGHWAY TRAVEL.

FOR ROUGHLY THE LAST 4 MONTHS, MY CAR STALLS AT A STOP (STOP SIGN, TRAFFIC LIGHT, ETC) BY SHIFTING ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL. THE CAR HAS A PUSH BUTTON GEAR SHIFT AND THE WARNING LIGHT SAYS TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK. SOMETIMES, I CAN SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND SOMETIMES I CAN'T SHIFT THE BUTTONS AT ALL. IF I AM ABLE TO SHIFT INTO PARK, A MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP AND STAYS 'TO SHIFT FROM P, ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING'. EITHER WAY, I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE. THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED, I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY THOUGHT THAT POSSIBLY SOMETHING GOT LODGED IN THE GEAR SHIFT. HOWEVER, AS TIME GOES ON, THESE EVENTS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON. OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER HAD MY CAR FOR ROUGHLY A WEEK IN JUNE AND TRIED TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE IT AND DID A FACTORY RESET. THAT WORKED FOR ABOUT A MONTH. NOW, THE STALLING HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE MATTER OF AN HOUR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN JUNE, IT HAD ALSO STALLED THREE TIMES IN AN HOUR. I FEEL AT HIGH RISK DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE CARS GET IMPATIENT BEHIND ME AND START MOVING WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T MOVE. OR, IF CARS ARE APPROACHING A GREEN LIGHT, THEY PROBABLY WON'T REALIZE THAT I AM UNABLE TO MOVE MAKING THIS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERYWHERE BUT ON THE HIGHWAY.

SMARTPHONE LINKING FUNCTIONS DEFECTIVE AND DISCONNECTS WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE, CAUSING A DRIVER DISTRACTION WITH LOSS OF NAVIGATIONAL FUNCTIONS AND LOSS OF HANDS-FREE PHONE OPERATION. HAS BEEN IN TO DEALER FOR THIS CONDITION MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS CONDITION MOST OFTEN OCCURS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE AUDIO SYSTEM LOSES ABILITY TO ADJUST VOLUME, CAUSING A DANGER TO THE DRIVER WHO IS UNABLE TO TURN DOWN THE AUDIO VOLUME. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN WITH THE VEHICLE THAT IS UNRESOLVED.

JULY OF 2019: WIFE COMPLAINS THE VEHICLE STARTS BACK UP UNDER PROTEST FROM THE START STOP SYSTEM WHEN DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC (MORE SO ON HOT DAYS) ON CITY STREETS. EVENTUALLY, VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLS WHEN SHE TRIES TO RESUME TRAVEL FROM START STOP MODE. VEHICLE EVENTUALLY RESTARTS AFTER 120 SECONDS OR MORE. PROBLEM OCCURS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER, DEALER CLAIMS THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, TESTING SHOWS A BAD CELL IN THE BATTERY (JUST OUT OF WARRANTY). BATTERY REPLACED. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE SORTED TEMPORARILY (ALTHOUGH MY WIFE ROUTINELY DISABLES THE START STOP FUNCTION TO AVOID THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM). MAY OF 2020: SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE, CAR STALLS WHEN TRYING TO RESUME TRAVEL AFTER START STOP MODE. VEHICLE WON'T RESTART FOR A FEW MINUTES AND CANNOT BE PUSHED OUT OF HARMS WAY. IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THE ISSUE IS PROBABLY NOT THE BATTERY, THE BATTERY IS OEM AND LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. THE MOST WORRISOME ASPECT OF THE SITUATION IS THIS. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS (I.E., THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING) THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL (WITHOUT GOING UNDER THE HOOD AND USING A SPECIAL TOOL) AND PUSHED TO SAFETY. HENCE, THE VEHICLE IS ABSOLUTELY STRANDED UNTIL IT RESTARTS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN STALLED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.

THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE (AEI) FEATURE HAS A FLAW IN IT THAT HONDA HAS APPARENTLY NOT IDENTIFIED OR EXPLAINED AND IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. AEI SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE BUT FULLY STOPPED AND, IN THEORY, INCREASES FUEL EFFICIENCY BY REDUCING ENGINE IDLING WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED, E.G. AT A STOPLIGHT OR IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC. WHILE THERE IS A BUTTON TO DISABLE IT, THIS BUTTON HAS TO BE PRESSED EACH TIME YOU TURN THE CAR ON AND CANNOT BE PERMANENTLY DISABLED. WE TRY TO REMEMBER TO ALWAYS PRESS THE BUTTON AND DISABLE THE FEATURE BUT OCCASIONALLY FORGET AND DON'T REALIZE WE HAVEN'T DISABLED IT UNTIL WE COME TO A STOP SOMEWHERE AND THE FEATURE ENGAGES AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. AEI WOULD JUST BE A NUISANCE IF IT WORKED 100% OF THE TIME AS IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOESN'T. WHEN IT WORKS AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS FULLY DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE IS AUTOMATICALLY IDLED, AND THEN AS YOU BEGIN TO LIFT YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE QUICKLY TURNS BACK ON, YOU'RE ALREADY IN DRIVE, AND YOU GO. HOWEVER, ON WHAT SEEMS TO BE A COMPLETELY RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE BASIS, SOMETIMES WHEN YOU BEGIN TO LIFT YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, RATHER THAN HAVING THE ENGINE RESTART AUTOMATICALLY, THE ENTIRE CAR JUST GOES DEAD. AT THIS POINT, YOU HAVE TO FRANTICALLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND COMPLETELY RESTART THE ENGINE. IF YOU'RE LUCKY, THIS HAPPENS QUICKLY AND YOU'RE NOT STUCK IN A COMPROMISED SPOT WITH NO ONE BEARING DOWN ON YOU FROM BEHIND BUT BY ITS DESIGN YOU ARE SOMEWHERE YOU NEED AND WANT TO BE MOVING FROM QUICKLY, AND IT HAS HAPPENED AT THE EXACT MOMENT WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO BOTH MYSELF AND MY WIFE A HANDFUL OF TIMES IN SCARY SITUATIONS. READ ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET - NO SERVICE REP ANYWHERE HAS AN EXPLANATION. THIS NEEDS TO GET SOLVED BEFORE PEOPLE DIE, IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY.*DT SEE UPDATED VERSION, TOO MANY CHARACTERS.*JB*DT

THIS IS IN REGARDS TO THE IDLE STOP "FEATURE" OF THE HONDA PILOT. WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A FULL STOP, THE ENGINE CUTS OFF IN ORDER TO SAVE FUEL LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. HOWEVER, WHEN IT IS TIME TO MOVE AGAIN, THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALLS CAUSING THE CAR TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF. THIS CAN BE POTENTIALLY FATAL AS THE BRAKES THEN DO NOT ENGAGE FULLY (CAR IS OFF) AND A MESSAGE APPEARS IN CONSOLE SAYING "TO START ENGINE: PRESS BRAKE AND PUSH (ENGINE ON)" . THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HONDA SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. THIS BEHAVIOR IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE. *TR

CAR SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY T A STOP POSITION AND COMPUTER READOUT INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN GO THRU INITIAL START ACTIONS. PURCHASED CAR IN FEB 2019, PROBLEM STARTED WITHIN DAYS OF PURCHASE. RETURNED IT TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT, FEB 26TH 2020 TOOK CAR TO DEALER AGAIN DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND THE RADIO EFFECTED THE LAST SHUT DOWN TIME WITH A LOUD BUZZING NOISE. WAS INFORMED THEY WOULD HAVE TO KEEP CAR OVERNIGHT SO THE VALVE CLEARANCE COULD BE CHECKED WHILE CAR WAS COOL. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR FOUR YEARS. IT IS UNSAFE AND VERY NERVE RACKING WHEN YOUR CAR DIES THROUGH NO FAILURE OF THE DRIVER AND OTHER IMPATIENT MOTORIST SOUNDING THEIR HORN BECAUSE YOU AREN'T MOVING. ONE HAS TO WORRY ABOUT ONE OF THOSE IMPATIENT DRIVERS NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT'S GOING ON AND HITTING THEIR GAS PEDAL WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT GOES GREEN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU ARE REAR ENDED. FOUR YEARS IS LONG ENOUGH, EVEN I REALIZE THAT THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T START WITH THESE CARS UNTIL THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ELECTRONIC COMPUTER SHIFTING AND THE AUTO STOP SHUT DOWN PROCESS WAS INTRODUCED IN THESE CARS. THIS SHUT DOWN OF THE ENGINE HAS ONLY HAPPENS ON PUBLIC STREETS AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. HONDA OF GAINESVILLE, FL HAS AN OPEN CASE ON MY VEHICLE. RECORDS ARE ON HAND IF NEEDED.

THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP SYSTEM PROBLEM WARNING MESSAGE PRESENTED. DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG- BUT LIGHT APPEARS IN DASHBOARD WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF AND WILL NOT ALARM.
WHILE DRIVING, I RECEIVED AN ALERT THAT "SOME DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEMS CANNOT OPERATE." LIGHTS INDICATED THAT THE COLLISION MITIGATION, AND LANE DEPARTURE, AND LIGHTS WERE AFFECTED. I DO NOT WANT THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM TO RANDOMLY DISABLE (OR ANY SYSTEM FOR THAT MATTER). THE DEALER PERFORMED A HARD RESET ON MY SYSTEM AND WE'LL SEE IF IT'S FIXED. STILL, IT POSED A HAZARD TO ME AT THE TIME.

ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, WHEN MY CAR HAD LESS THAN 30K MILES. MY CAR WOULD STALL WHILE THE CAR WAS IN "AUTO IDLE-STOP MODE". INITIALLY, I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WAS HESITATING WHEN IT WOULD START UP. THEN THINGS GOT WORSE AND I NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WOULD TURN OFF AND I'D HEAR ALL OF THE CHIMES LIKE WHEN I START THE CAR. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO HONDA TO HAVE THIS FIXED. THEY SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER AND CLAIMED THEY FIXED IT. THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. I ALSO HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE PROMISED HE WOULD INFORM HONDA CORPORATE. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY FOLLOW UP. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND OUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE SOMETIMES I NEED TO MAKE A TURN AND MY CAR HAS STALLED AND ADDS A FEW SECONDS. HUGE/LOUD POP OF RADIO, CAR DOESN'T BEEP, IS STILL IN DRIVE, BUT IS DEAD WHEN: STOPPED BUT NOT SURE THAT AUTOSTART IS ON' BOTH TIMES THIS HORRIBLE ONE HAPPENED, IT WAS A VERY BRIEF PRESS ON THE BREAKS (11/5: ON FREEWAY; 11/6: AT STOP SIGN). SCREENS ON DASH POPPED LOUDLY, AND SUDDENLY ENGINE WAS DEAD. C.SITUATION: THIS WAS NOT A FULL AUTOSTOP ISSUE, SO THERE WASN'T ANY EXPECTATION THAT IT WAS GOING TO RESTART, RATHER IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE WAS GOING. SUDDENLY I AM ROLLING BACKWARDS AS ENGINE IS DEAD. I AM STILL IN DRIVE, SO I HAVE TO PRESS THE BREAK TO STOP ROLLING INTO THE CAR AT THE STOP BEHIND ME! THEN I TRY TO PUT IT IN PARK OR PRESS DRIVE AGAIN, THAT DOESN'T WORK. I HAVE TO COMPLETELY REBOOT THE CAR BY PRESSING BREAK AND PRESSING POWER BUTTON, THEN PRESS DRIVE. THIS IS INCREDIBLY SCARY ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT AS SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC AS WHEN THE OTHER SITUATIONS HAPPEN (I.E. YOU ARE JUST PAUSING, NOT STOPPING LONG ENOUGH FOR AUTOSTOP TO DO IT'S THING). D.REPERCUSSIONS: SEEMS THAT AFTER THE HUGE 'POP' ONE OF THE SCREENS UNDER STEERING WHEEL IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THERE IS A BLANK SCREEN INSTEAD OF THE 'HOME' ONE WHICH NORMALLY SHOWS THINGS LIKE YOUR CRUISE CONTROL FOLLOWING DISTANCE/SET RATE. ALSO THE BUTTONS FOR COLLISION AND LANE DEPARTURE TURNED OFF AND I HAD TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY. E.FREQUENCY: FIRST HAPPENED TUESDAY THIS WEEK DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, CAR HAD BEEN PARKED ALL DAY, THIS WAS ABOUT 35 MIN INTO MY COMMUTE., I CALLED AND MADE YET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THEN IT HAPPENED THE NEXT MORNING, WAS CHILLY, THIS TIME HAPPENED WITHIN FOUR MINUTES OF STARTING UP. F.PRIORITY: I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY I DIDN'T HAVE A FENDER BENDER EITHER TIME. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRUST THAT YOUR ENGINE IS GOING TO STAY RUNNING. THIS WILL ALSO GET US IN AN ACCIDENT.

WE LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO AND DO A LOT OF URBAN DRIVING (AKA, THERE'S A TON OF STOP SIGNS). WHEN THE A/C IS NOT ON, THE ENGINE TURNS OFF ALMOST EVERY TIME WE STOP. AFTER OWNING THE BRAND NEW VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A YEAR, THE RADIO AND LIGHTS STARTED TURNING OFF WHEN THE CAR WOULD START BACK UP AT A STOP SIGN/LIGHT. THE POWER TO THE LIGHTS ACTUALLY STARTED TO DIM BEFORE THEY TURNED OFF COMPLETELY. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR FAILED TO START BACK UP ON ITS OWN A FEW TIMES. WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE STARTER UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. WE'RE NOW 2 YEARS + 4 MONTHS INTO OWNING THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS ARE STARTING TO DIM AGAIN WHEN THE CAR IS STARTING BACK UP AT STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS -- I'M HOPING IT FAILS AGAIN BEFORE THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY IS UP SO WE CAN GET IT REPLACED AGAIN FOR FREE. THIS FEELS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT TO ME -- ONE THAT'S EXACERBATED BY THE FREQUENCY OF STOPS IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT AND A STARTER THAT ISN'T BUILT TO WITHSTAND THAT KIND OF USE. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A RECALL.
FOR A WHILE NOW THE CAR HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH STARTING AFTER THE AUTO IDLE ENGINE STOP HAS ENGAGED. IT IS SLOW TO START, THE RADIO AND INFOTAINMENT SCREEN CUT OUT, AND THERE IS A POPPING NOISE. WHEN WE HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE LAST, WE MENTIONED THIS AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND TO RECORD IT HAPPENING. I'M SUPPOSED TO DRIVE AROUND RECORDING EVERYTHING? THIS HAS PROGRESSED TO THE OTHER NIGHT MY WIFE WAS ALONE IN THE CAR AND IT COMPLETELY DIED AT A RED LIGHT, WITH CARS ALL AROUND HER. SHE WAS FRANTICALLY TRYING TO GET IT STARTED AFTER IT SAID TO SWITCH TO PARK AND RESTART. IT WOULDN'T START FOR 5-6 ATTEMPTS AND THEN FINALLY STARTED. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND TO THINK IT COULD HAPPEN WITH MY KID IN THE CAR. WE WILL BE SETTING UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AGAIN. ALSO, THE SHIFTING OF GEARS IN THE CAR IS ROUGH BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. IT'S ALWAYS BETWEEN 25-30 MPH WHEN THE HARD SHIFT HAPPENS. IT'S LIKE THE CAR DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR TO BE IN. AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T REPLICATE IT AND WE SHOULD RECORD IT HAPPENING. THEY DID A TRANSMISSION SERVICE AS PART OF THE STANDARD MILEAGE SERVICE RECOMMENDATION AND THOUGHT THAT MAY FIX IT. IT DID NOT.

THE BLUE TOOTH FEATURES ARE NOT RELIABLE. THE FEATURE THAT ALLOWS ME TO VERBALLY TELL THE CAR TO CALL SOMEONE IS NOT CONSISTENTLY RESPONSIVE. WHEN I MAKE A CALL FROM MY PHONE, THE CAR DOESN'T ALWAYS PICK IT UP. INCOMING CALLS CONSISTENTLY COME IN CORRECTLY. I CALLED VAN'S HONDA IN GREEN BAY WISCONSIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH THE HONDA AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I CALL THE CELL PHONE PROVIDER. THEY EXPLAINED THIS IS AN I PHONE ISSUE. CAR IS IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY, ON CITY STREETS AND ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY. VERY UNRELIABLE.

I NOTICED THAT AUTO IDLE WOULD RANDOMLY TURN OFF AND ON THE CARS ELECTRICITY FOR A SECOND. TODAY, AFTER STOPPING FOR TRAFFIC, THE AUTO IDLE KICKED IN AND THE CAR STALLED IN NEUTRAL. WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND I TRIED TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT IT WOULDN'T RESTART. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I KEPT TRYING FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND FINALLY THE CAR TURNED OF AND I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN.

HAVE A 2017 HONDA PILOT TOURING WITH 39K MILES. USUALLY THE CAR GOES INTO 'ACCESSORY' MODE WHEN THE AUTO IDLE STOP KICKS IN BUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO SOMETHING NEW STARTED- I EXPERIENCED A TOTAL STALL FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND IT HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES SINCE. THE CAR TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, BUT IT DID NOT RESTART AUTOMATICALLY. THE DASHBOARD WAS LIT UP WITH PROBLEMS. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND FRANTICALLY TRIED TO RESTART IT AS I WAS ON A HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC. ONCE IT WAS RESTARTED, I DISABLED AUTO IDLE STOP AND I'VE BEEN DISABLING IT EVER SINCE. HOWEVER, THIS IS A MANUAL FIX AND IS NOT ALWAYS SOMETHING ONE REMEMBERS TO DO, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAVE A NEW 16-YEAR-OLD DRIVER ENTERING THE FRAY IN OUR HOME SOON. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS EXTENSIVELY ONLINE, THERE APPEARS TO BE A KNEE-JERK REACTION FROM HONDA TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES IN THESE AFFECTED VEHICLES, BUT IT IS NOT STOPPING THE ISSUE, ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. THE NHTSA HAS MANY DOCUMENTED CASES OF THIS AND IT IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT NO RECALL IS YET IN PLACE. CALLED HONDA USA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 9:30 AM TODAY AND VERIFIED THERE ARE NO RECALLS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND IF THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT THERE WOULD BE NO FINANCIAL RELIEF FOR NECESSARY PARTS/LABOR RELATED TO THIS ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INCLINE. ALSO, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN BEING DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE COLLISION AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO RYAN HONDA OF MINOT (3701 S BROADWAY, MINOT, ND 58701, 701-852-1111) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT CERTAIN ELECTRICAL FEATURES ON HER VEHICLE SPORADICALLY FAILED TO OPERATE WHEN NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON 09-27-18 AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, THE DASH LIT UP ORANGE, AND SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS CANE ON AND STARTED BEEPING. AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE ISSUE RESET ITSELF, AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED POWER AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HONDA FOR A FINAL REPAIR FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES THE FOLLOWING DAY. IT IS 9 DAYS LATER AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. PER THE SERVICE ADVISOR, THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED 3 WIRING HARNESSES UNDER THE DASH THAT THEY SAY WERE DEFECTIVE FROM THE FACTORY, ALONG WITH 2 MODULES. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE, AS IT ITERMITTENTLY LOSES POWER. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST DUE TO THE PUSH BUTTON TRANSMISSION GOING INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING, AND LOSING FORWARD POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK OR NEUTRAL.

EVERY FEW DAYS WE GET A INDICATOR THAT READS 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY IN FOBS, NO CHANGE. INDICATOR COMES ON WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE & STAYS ON UNTIL TURNED OFF, MAY OR MAY NOT COME BACK THE NEXT TIME STARTING IT.

THE VEHICLE HAS STARTED JERKING WHILE ACCELERATING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HONDA PILOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD AND THE WINDOWS FUNCTIONED INDEPENDENTLY. THE DEALER (SERRA HONDA GRANDVILLE, 4260 KENOWA AVE SW, GRANDVILLE, MI) WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000. *TT *TR

THIS IS THE 4TH TIME NOW THAT WE HAVE HAD TO BRING OUT PILOT IN TO BE SERVICED FOR THE SAME THING. WHEN WE TURN THE CAR ON, MULTIPLE ERRORS COME ON OUT OF NOWHERE. POWER STEERING, THE SPEEDOMETER AND MANY OTHER THINGS STOP WORKING. THEY RESET IT AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THEY HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY AND DONE SOMETHING WITH THE ALTERNATOR BUT NEITHER OF THESE THINGS FIXED THE ACTUAL PROBLEM.
