This car loses speed when passing while highway driving. Car decelerates and throws you into neutral throws dash errors of "blind spot" & "transmission problem". I was luck to be able to get over 2 lanes to break down lane without being hit from behind on several occasions. Car message to put in park and turn off. Car was in neutral and wound not go into park. I had to put emergency break on and power down car in neutral. Waited a few minutes then restarted and no errors on dash. Car back to normal. Car has major faults and you can't show the codes when you get to dealer because they are gone then they also want to charge you $175 diagnostic fee. Car also has issues with the stop light idle turning off feature and not turning back on for 5-10 minutes yet another way someone can hit you from behind. I am stuck with this unsafe car and Honda never has to recall anything. I am going tomorrow yet again to try and get the Service Bulletin 23-078 Warranty Extension for the torque converter covered to see if that will resolve issue.
The Auto engine idle stop system just quits and stalls out at intersections. I have to put the car in park and restart the vehicle. Some times it takes a few minutes to get it moving. I’ve brought it to the dealership and they updated the software but it didn’t make any difference. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s very frequent. I’ve started disabling it because it’s frightening when your call stalls and people are coming up behind you quickly at a green light. Today it’s entirely malfunctioning with a warning so I will have to take it back to the dealership again for them to tell me nothing is wrong. Honda should do a recall on this. I’ve searched the internet and I’m apparently one of many people having the same issues with this feature. Thanks so much.
Car goes idle/shuts off with the auto shut off feature but won't turn back on automatically.
In August 2022, with approx. 92,000 miles, my 2017 Honda Pilot received fuel injector replacement and a PCM update under Honda TSB 20-100, performed by Schaumburg Honda. This Technical Service Bulletin is known to have downstream impacts on emissions systems if the root cause is not fully corrected. On August 13, 2025, at 134,045 miles, the vehicle triggered a P0430 code (“Bank 2 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold”). Schaumburg Honda again replaced the injectors. Less than a month later, on September 8, 2025, at 135,101 miles, the vehicle triggered a second emissions code, P0420 (“Bank 1 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold”). Schaumburg Honda informed me that both catalytic converters had now failed and quoted over $5,800 in replacement costs. This sequence of events strongly suggests a long-term emissions defect potentially caused by unresolved impacts from TSB 20-100. American Honda denied goodwill assistance based on mileage, despite the clear connection to prior manufacturer-directed service. I have purchased several vehicles from this dealer over the years and have maintained all service through authorized Honda service centers. This raises safety and environmental concerns due to the catalytic converter failure, and may indicate a systemic issue tied to the TSB.
I have a 2017 Honda Pilot manufactured at their Alabama Plant. It has White Diamond Pearl. The paint is de-laminating from the car around the roof, and rear panels. This is ultimately structural problem that will allow rust formation. The paint pealing started in 2023 and has continued. It is apparent Honda is aware of the paint problem for White Diamond Pearl and other white paint from this plant that covers Pilots, Civics, Fits, and HRV models starting in at least 2015 through 2017 (not sure if beyond that manufacturing time frame). Honda is not responsive to this costly problem. This is finally a safety issue if the body panels rust and weaken the car in a collision. The NHTSA should address this issue with Honda. Please advise about warranty extensions or class actions against Honda.
Teenage daughter was driving in rush hour traffic and the car seemed at have stalled out. She pulled over on the shoulder and manually turned off the car. When she tried re-starting it, it would not start. Electrical came on, but no power to the engine. Something then seemed to have overheated because when fire department was called, they extinguished something that had melted the plastic covering underneath the car. Fire department called due to smoke. No flames seen. We believe the smoke was from the melted plastic under car from something (a fluid) that was leaking. Insurance was called, car was towed to a Honda repair shop and then towed to a local Honda dealership. They say engine seized and is locked up and will not re-start. Other noted repair needed they say is torque converter. No other problems with this vehicle in the past. One of the best cars we have owned. No warnings prior to this happening on the highway. Disappointed that Honda did not have a cause and origin expert determine what happened to the car.
I feel the engine is failing
Auto Idle Stop System continues to be a problem even after new battery as well as computer update from Honda. My safety continues to be put at risk due to car not restarting after idle at stop light in traffic. People have almost rear ended my car as well as the stress it puts on driver because car totally dies and can't restart for several minutes. This is a one car owner since new in 2017 and continue to replace battery, but nothing helps. Car has been serviced by Honda dealer since purchased in 2017. No warning and you have to remember every time you restart the car to turn this feature off.
Honda has put us in a very difficult and dangerous situation that we have tried to get fixed with two local Honda dealerships and have not been able to get this fixed This relates to "Warranty Extension: 2017–19 Multi-Model 6AT Torque Converter - DTC P0741 Stored." We own a 2017 Honda Pilot that we are still making payments on. We believe in Honda vehicles because our 2007 Honda Odyssey has over 300,000 miles and we can still drive it. For several months prior to December 2024, our Pilot has made a strange knocking noise when we turn it on. We did some research and found the torque converter recall notice. Sierra Honda in our town of Monrovia, Calif. would not even look at our car even though we mentioned the recall. They wanted to charge us just to inspect the vehicle. In December 2024, Pasadena Honda did examine our car but they said there was no code coming up on the computer indicating that anything was wrong with the car. We told them that if they drove the car, they could hear the issue but they said they couldn't drive it. The situation with our 2017 Honda Pilot has worsened and we are asking for Honda to deal with this situation immediately by fixing our car AND providing us with a rental car while our car is being fixed. I have a video from March 2025 that demonstrates that the noise continued to be an issue. The noise has gotten worse. I have videos from today that demonstrates this as well. I could not upload these videos here but can share them with you. We are loyal Honda customers and ask that you please fix this situation immediately for the safety of our family. This is our family car -- we drive our daughters to school 30 minutes away every day -- and do not want to have an accident in our Honda Pilot. Please help us immediately as this car is on recall and it needs to be fixed. HONDA REFUSES TO FIX TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUE
Issue : Engine Idle Restart malfunction Incident Description: I was driving my Honda [Model, Year] when I encountered a serious safety issue related to the Engine Idle Auto Start-Stop system. While stopped in traffic at a red light, the auto start-stop feature engaged and turned off the engine as expected. However, when the light turned green and I released the brake, the engine failed to restart automatically. I was stuck in the middle of moving traffic, unable to accelerate or move the vehicle. This unexpected failure caused a dangerous traffic obstruction and put me at serious risk of being rear-ended. I had to manually restart the vehicle under pressure, with vehicles approaching behind me, creating a high-stress and potentially crash-prone situation. This issue is especially concerning because this vehicle was previously subject to a Honda recall for this exact problem, and I was informed that the fix had been applied. Clearly, the issue persists and the so-called fix is not effective. This malfunction not only compromises my safety but also that of other drivers. I request immediate attention to this recurring issue and urge Honda to take responsibility by issuing a proper and permanent fix.
The start/stop mechanism is believed to be not working properly at all times. The car will turn off when we are at a stop or red light and we hit the gas to go, the car turns off. When the car turns off we are left at the light or stop while the rest of the cars go. We almost get rear ended because we are expected to go and don’t. We got honked at and at times in dangerous parts of the road with low visibility of our car at the bottom of a hill. We have toddlers in the car in car seats and it’s extra dangerous. The dealer has not been able to reproduce the problem and therefore they say there is no problem even after showing them videos of different occasions. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, or others. We have contacted the manufacturer and they also shrugged and said we can’t reproduce the problem so there’s nothing to fix/do. There are no warning lights before it happens it just doesn’t turn on and then it displays a series of steps that are required in order to turn the car back on. I have videos of it. We have been dealing with this since may 2022 I have record of taking it to the dealer 8 times and all the repairs they recommended each time and what we have paid for.
When the Idle Stop feature is activated, the car idles at a redlight or prolonged stop as when stuck in traffic. The car engine stalls once the brake pedal is released and must be restart in order to move the vehicle. The condition is dangerous as it has happened in busy traffic. It happens approximately 1 out of every 10 times the idle stop is activated.
My 2017 Honda Pilot has been experiencing significant RPM surging and juddering between 10-45 MPH, accompanied by "Transmission System Problem" and "Emission System Problem" warning messages. Timeline of Events: Initial Repair (May 13, 2024): The Billion Honda dealership in Iowa City diagnosed the issue as DTC P0776. I paid $426.10 for the repair, but the surging, juddering, warning lights, and DTC P0776 code persisted. Recommended Transmission Replacement (June 17, 2024): The dealership recommended replacing the transmission at $9,000.00. Upon contacting American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Case #[XXX]), Honda offered to cover 30% ($2,723), leaving me with a $6,277.88 bill. Highway Breakdown (November 7, 2024): The vehicle severely juddered and displayed warning messages before breaking down completely on [XXX] in Chicago, endangering my safety and others during heavy traffic. Concerns: Premature Failure: The vehicle had only 42,073 miles as of May 2024, far below the expected lifespan for a transmission, suggesting a manufacturing or design defect. Recurring Issue: Despite the repair, the DTC P0776 problem persisted, indicating a deeper quality defect. Financial Burden: It is unreasonable for a loyal customer to pay $6,277.88 for a transmission replacement likely caused by a manufacturing defect. Safety Risks: The highway breakdown highlights the severity of this issue and the danger it poses. Common Problem: Similar transmission issues (DTC P0776) have been widely reported by other Honda owners, suggesting this is not an isolated case. Requested Resolution: I request Honda to: Cover 100% of the transmission replacement costs, including taxes and fees. Reimburse the $426.10 I paid for the unsuccessful repair. Address the root cause of this defect to ensure no further safety risks. I invested significantly in this vehicle and expect Honda to uphold its reputation for quality and customer care. Please address this matter promptly. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)
18 June 2021 took car in for A/C no longer working. They stated the a/c compressor failed, but not under recall, however they didn't have any parts since it was a common problem. Got the parts and repaired it 7 July 2021. Only safety issue is that on another Honda we own the compressor also failed during an interstate drive with thunderstorms and a tornado we couldn't see out of the window and while attempting to exit the interstate the compressor seized causing the engine to overheat leaving us stranded.
I have a recall for fuel pump malfunction that was announced in December 2023. The first time I was notified was in February 2024 and today we are at the end of October 2024 (240 days) and there has been no update. My car failed to start twice and the battery was in good shape in May and July. The car constantly hesitates when trying to accelerate. Every time, I call a Honda dealer they tell me that the replacement for the item is not available. Upon checking for some affects that might be caused as a result of this recall, the fuel filter might get bad due to bad fuel pump, it might also affect the function of the fuel injectors, valves, and the whole fuel system. Honda wants to charge me just to take a look into this incident. I feel unsafe driving on highways or even in local areas as every time I try to accelerate, the car fails to go to full power and I am afraid that the car behind might hit me from the back if my car stops due to fuel pump failure. If the manufacturer or the dealer is unable to replace this part, I feel that they should change my car to a new car as I have been driving with this issue for over 8 months now with no visible progress.
Transmission needs replaced after I did transmission flush 5/24/24
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS BAD, REMOVED DISCHARGE HOSE AND FOUND METAL CONTAMINATION. NEED TO REPLACE ALL MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE A/C SYSTEM. NEED TO REPLACE THE A/C COMPRESSOR, CONDENSER, EXPANSION VALVE, EVAPORATOR, DISCHARGE HOSE AND FLUSH LINES. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The safety of both the driver and passengers was compromised due to the malfunctioning air conditioning system in the 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L. Driving without a functional AC system can lead to discomfort, distraction, and potential health risks, especially during extreme weather conditions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, problem has been confirmed by Honda of Bay County on 04 April 2024. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No
Had an “Emission system” problem in Jan. 2024. The Honda services replaced fuel injector and other parts relating to the problem. However, 1,000 miles after the same problem showed up again and was told on 6/10/24 by the Honda services that problem is the same again after running a test. I tried contacting American Honda to check any recall and found out that anything relating to fuel injector has extended warranty. Today, 6/11/24, after I demand for free car loaner Honda services called to tell us that this time it was the catalityc converter fails. I’m very concern whether telling me the truth or not.
The radio intermittently changes volume, brightness level, turns off/on all by itself. This has caused the volume to get so loud I have to take my eyes off the road. There has been several other complaints online about this. It's dangerous to be driving to have the radio all of a sudden startle everyone and the driver tries to fix it while driving
My 2017 Honda Pilot has a jerking issue when accelerating slowly or fast. It lags to accelerate. You can see the RPM gauge bounce when this happens. The "bucking" or "jerking" can be felt by the driver and sometimes the passenger but its not super noticeable. My vehicle has less than 60,000 miles on it currently. I have not changed the transmission fluid but this issue has only just started recently. My transmission fluid currently does not look brown or smell burnt. It looks the normal red color. There is no warning lights have appeared on the dashboard.
I was driving my 2017 Honda Pilot Exl back from work at 35-40 mph when I heard a loud thud noise. Initially I thought I had gotten a flat or something, but then I heard air escaping as if a window was open but it was coming from over my head. As I continued to drive I heard pieces of glass sliding across the roof of the car. When a got home a few minutes (< 10 minutes) later, I tried opening the sunroof tray and noticed I couldn’t and I could see that the glass looked to have shattered. I got out of the car and examined the roof of the car and the sunroof was indeed shattered.
On [XXX] I was traveling south on [XXX] from Omaha, NE to Bella Vista, AR. There were no other cars in view either behind me, ahead of me or traveling north in the opposite lanes, nor any debris on the highway when I heard a loud explosion. I thought I had blown a tire but had no problems steering the vehicle. I immediately pulled over to stop on the shoulder of the road. I got out of the car and saw that my sunroof had exploded. Small pieces of glass were everywhere. The time was late morning and the temperature was not especially hot. I reported this to Honda and to my insurance company. On June 18 my local dealer replaced the moonroof. My cost was $691.49. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving at normal speed car suddenly is unresponsive (will not accelerate, looses power, and is jumpy). The computer triggers a limp mode and alerts every code possible on the dash screen, even though all mechanical parts are fine. This computer/electric failure is a risk that is so unpredictable may cause life threatening accident. The certified repair shop has reviewed, reproduced, and is scratching their heads why Honda hasn’t recalled this because several other Pilots are doing the same.
Auto idle had been turning off and not re-starting quickly for past 6 months. I asked them to look at it last service. They didn't find anything wrong and said to turn off the auto idle. I did turn off the auto idle most of the time and never had a problem when it was off. Sometimes I forgot to turn off the autoidle. On Dec 5 2023, I was at a red light and had forgotten to turn off auto idle. The car would not turn back on and it was stuck in park. I had it towed and the mechanics said they needed to use a special tool to get it into neutral since the usual protocol had not worked. My car was stuck at a light and I directed traffic to go around me for about 30mins before the tow tuck came. There was no way to push the car out of the way because the wheels were locked due to it being stuck in Park. My safety and the safety of other cars was at risk because the cars went into the incoming traffic lane to go around me. If this had happened on a busy road or in traffic on a highway, it would have been more dangerous. A previous time they replaced the battery and this time they are replacing the starter. I am concerned that the problem will persist since the mechanics say there is nothing wrong with the auto idle. I do see that there is a class action suit and over 200 complaints to NHTSA on the autoidle for Honda Pilots. This is a serious safety concern to have a car stop that will not re-start and then cannot be put into neutral to be towed or pushed to the side.
On three separate occasions, the idol stop/start feature has failed requiring me to manually restart the car. Most recently, it took several attempts to restart before ignition fired all while holding up traffic on a busy street. During failed attempts to restart, it made a sound like it was attempting to restart but didn't have enough power. Weirdly, all three occasions have been at the same intersection, a light on an exit after driving non-stop on the interstate for an hour.
For over eight weeks, the vehicles alarm randomly goes off until it is disabled with key FOB. There is no indication of when it will alarm. It has happened during regular business hour and in the middle of the night, with no pattern in time of occurrence. This is a nuisance and disturbance to the public, as the alarm is very loud. Took the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis. Dealership diagnosed vehicle with a malfunctioning Keyless Access Control Unit. The part was on back order for eight weeks but it was delivered sooner than expected to the dealership. Diagnosis cost $195 and repair cost $659.59 for a total of $854.59.
The car had 49,400 miles on it when I decided to take a trip to see a friend in NC from NY about 3 hours into my trip a transmission temperature to high light came on. I pulled over turned the car off for a half hour and restarted it and the light disappeared after another hour a light came on that said transmission problems. I stopped in VA and brought it to a Valvoline where they flushed the fluid and said it was running low on transmission fluid. I continued on my journey and no light came on and 2 hours into driving the transmission temperature light came back on. When I arrived in NC I brought it to a Honda dealership where I was told I needed a new transmission on a car that only had 49,000 miles and was a $65,000 car. I also had to pull over on major highways because I was scared the car would catch fire. (Pulled over on NJ turnpike and I-95)
This vehicle keeps having a "Emissions System Problem" Then other times says "Transmission Temperature Too Hot" I bought and get this serviced at my local dealer. They don't know what the problem is and it goes away after I see them for a couple weeks but the problems come back. They say no problem. It's unnerving to drive a car with theses messages and I drive long distances.
My Honda continues to display a transmission service problem warning. There’s nothing specifically wrong with the transmission and this is a reported problem across the Internet. I suspect there is an issue with the torque converter or other part that is causing this error in some cases, passengers have been stranded.
On March 18th, 2023 at 6:30 PM I parked my car and waited for the curbside pick up at a cafe with my 3 girls 6 (my niece) 7, (daughter), and 11 (daughter) years old. The car started blinking all the lights started accelerating by themselves and turned off immediately. while I tried to turn it on it never started instead it blinked and displayed many messages, including transmission system problem, emission system problem, etc. I thought the battery died and called my husband to jump-start the car and it took 30 minutes to get driving with all these scary movements. my kids were traumatized by the experience and I thought thank god they were safe and the problem is solved. After almost a week once again on March 27th at I'm driving the kids to Karate and driving back at 5:45 PM all of sudden it started blinking, shanking, grinding noise, loud noise, and many messages, transmission system problems, emission system problems, etc. "D" drive started blinking. smoke came and I was still on the road not sure what to do. I thought I will be hit by the other cars behind me. luckily I was almost close to our street and it made a loud noise and I parked the car. it still blinked and smoked heavily and I turned off and got out of the car. It was a very scary movement of my life. I have 2 kids and I drive them every day for their day-2 day school/activities. I cannot believe I bought a new car in 2017 trusting the brand and it is already failed, my family. The car has to be towed to the dealership the dealer gave me a code P-2652. I want Honda to take care of their mechanical issues. I cannot get over the trauma I went through and I'm still shaking while I'm writing this. My 7 year old do not want to talk about the car which made me very sad. My girls loved the family car and now I'm in tears thinking about their safety. I want NHTSA to safeguard the consumers who go through these issues. HONDA PLEASE WAKE UP. My girls are ready to draft a letter to HONDA and NHTSA.
I have a 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L with a mileage of 41010 miles. I have completed all the recommended services in a timely manner by an authorized Honda Dealer. When I was driving the vehicle yesterday (3/25/2023) at a speed of around 65 mph, I got an error message saying "Transmission System Problem". There was no error code associated with it. There was no problem in the driving. But at the end of the drive, in the parking lot when I had to reverse, the backup camera will not turn on. After parking the vehicle and turning off the vehicle and restarting it, the error message went away. And then the backup camera also started to work fine. When I was driving back home, the error message came on again when the speed reached around 65 mph. I came home and searched about this error message and I came across a lot of complaints of the same nature for 2017 Honda Pilot owners. Please refer to the discussions on the following links as samples: https://is.gd/RB78A1 , https://is.gd/a84e9h . Since many owners are experiencing this, I am wondering if this is a manufacturing issue. Many owners are talking about the Dealerships asking them to replace Transmission which costs around $8000 or to replace Transmission torque converter which will cost $5000. As of now my vehicle drives fine but I got exactly the same message twice at the speed of about 65 mph. I am scared to take this vehicle on to highways since my vehicle is following exactly the same pattern as that of other owners of 2017 Honda Pilot. I also saw Honda Ridgeline owners in the same year also having similar experience online. All of this make me think that this is more of a design/manufacturing problem impacting many owners and hence may be NHTSA would want to look in to this.
Car has failed to restart numerous times after coming to a complete stop, typically at a traffic signal leaving me stranded in the middle of the road with cars whizzing by in adjoining lanes and cars behind me beeping. This creates a very great hazard. This has happened at least a dozen times. To restart the vehicle, I have to put the vehicle into park, put my foot on the brake, and press the start engine button. This issue started in 2019. Another issue is that periodically the dash display will rotate through every possible malfunction indicator. When this happens, each malfunction indicator light stays on the screen for a couple of seconds and moves onto the next one. When this is happening, the vehicle will not go any faster than 15-20 mph which I think is a safety mechanism to make sure the engine is not further damages if an actual issue is occurring. Fortunately, this has only happened on neighborhood streets where the speed limit is 35 mph so the sudden loss of power did not create an immediate hazard. This issue started in 2019. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership regarding both these issues but they were unable to determine what caused these issues even after I showed them the video I took of the dash display rotating between all of the malfunction indicators. No police, insurance representatives, police or others have inspected the vehicle.
Vehicle's start/stop system continuously failing. Vehicle will "stop" or shut off at intersection as intended, but then fails to restart, leaving my family stranded in the middle of traffic. This obviously creates a very dangerous situation for my family. This has happened several times. When you try to restart the vehicle it acts as if it doesn't have the power to do so. Inspections of the vehicle at the dealer continuously show the battery is in the "green" or great working condition. Although they've said this, their only response to the issue so far is to replace the seemingly fine battery.
I took ny Honda Pilot in for a routine oil change. I have had issues with a squeaky sound coming from under the hood. The dealership said my transmission fluid had broken down, and they had to flush/replace it. It cost me over $350. Honda said it wasn’t covered under warranty as it is a maintenance issue. I only have a little over 57,000 miles on it. The squeaky sound persisted, so they replaced a belt. I had to take it back a week after, because yup sound is still there. It was in the garage for over 2 weeks and I just got it back yesterday. I’m not sure exactly what they did, only know they had to take the undercarriage off to get to it. I never received the paperwork as the case hasn’t been closed by the repairman yet. I have an appointment Thursday February 16th to go over wheel bearing issues now and am supposed to get the paperwork for this last repair then. Very frustrating.
Was stopped at a very busy intersection today (2/12) and the vehicle's auto start/stop turned the vehicle off. When the light turned green, I attempted to apply gas and the engine stalled out. Was unable to restart the car again after many retries. I was very concerned that another vehicle would hit me since we were at a very busy intersection. All the electronic warnings on the dash appeared to flicker on and off when trying to restart. Eventually had to have the vehicle towed to the Honda dealer since the vehicle could not be jump started or restart on it's own.
The auto stop/start does not restart after stopping at a red light.
I am reporting 2 safety issues in this report, both involving the AUTO STOP/START function in my car. SAFETY ISSUE #1: MALFUNCTIONING AUTO STOP/START (ASS) FUNCTION: At least 4 times during the past 2 months, I have had a serious safety issue with my 2017 Honda Pilot wherein it stalls and is completely inoperable for a short time, while I’m stopped at an intersection. This has caused me undue stress and jeopardized the safety of myself and my passengers, and disrupted traffic. According to my best recollection, the situation occurs when the ASS function stalls the engine (when stopped), and I manually press the ‘Disable ASS’ button to restart the engine. But instead of the engine turning back, all systems completely ‘black out’ as I frantically try to re-start the engine, to no effect. After several scary seconds, somehow it re-starts. SAFETY ISSUE #2: CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING ASS FUNCTION: Even when functioning correctly, the ASS function has caused a safety issue for me at least twice. When the ASS function was automatically engaged, I was unable to immediately accelerate to avoid a potential collision. Although no collision resulted, these few scares ‘trained me’ to manually disengage the ASS function whenever I remember to do so. Based on my experiences, It would be safest to have no ASS function at all.
Emissions System Problem On 8-11-2022, multiple lights came on the dashboard with multiple systems errors. Brought to dealership and they replaced the fuel injectors. The dealership stated that this was a known problem with the 2016-2017 Honda Pilot's. Honda is giving a 10-year, 150,000 mile extended warranty from the date of purchase to cover fuel injectors and pipes leading up to the fuel injectors. On 9-27-2022, dash lit up with another Emissions System Problem. Brought to same dealership and they stated that the vehicle needed a software update. On 10-31-2022, dash lit up for the third time showing Emissions System Problem. Brought to same dealership. Currently waiting on diagnosis.
Car alarm keeps going off randomly and the electronic dashboard flickers repeatedly while the car is parked. I recently left the car at a parking garage and apparently the alarm was triggered and ran all day - I came back to the car that evening and there was clicking sound coming from the engine (not turned on, of course). The battery was drained and when I got a jump start, the alarm went off and the dashboard went crazy again. I wonder what would might happen when the car is being driven. There's clearly something wrong with the electronics. The dealer said I needed a new body control module (BCM), but the part is hard to come by apparently. Having done some research on the the issue, this appears to be a common problem with Honda Pilots. My car only has 50k miles on it and seems out of character to have this part fail. The short-term solution is to leave the car unlocked which in turn disarms the car alarm, but I've seen the dashboard and cabin lights flicker off and on in this state. This problem has been ongoing for months now.
Auto Start/Stop feature malfunction. Vehicle fails to restart after shutting off using Auto Start/Stop feature.
This is my third incident of being stopped at a red light and the auto idle turns on. When the light turns green, and I release my foot from the break, my car stalls and tells me put it into park. My car essentially stalls out and I have to shut it off and on. Usually takes about 30 seconds to a minute for it to start up again. I almost got rear ended today at a light and I am concerned for my safety. How can we turn this into a recall and get this fixed before somebody gets injured?
I am the owner of a 2017 Honda Pilot Touring. My car has been dealer maintained. It was most recently in for routine maintenance less than 3 weeks ago. On October 7, 2022 at approximately 2:00pm I was stopped at a major intersection. My Auto Idle Stop engaged and my engine went idle. When the light turned green, I let off the brake my car jumped 2-3 times and went dead. The dashboard showed the car to now be in Neutral and the battery indicator was lit. I quickly attempted to restart the car and/or put the car in Park. Over the course of 30+ seconds, I tried various combinations pushing the Start button or the Park button. There was no response. I attempted to call my husband, he was unavailable, so I tried again and the car started immediatley (while in neutral). I have had numerous instances of the Auto Idle Stop not responding quickly when it should restart. The delay can be up to 4 seconds after lifting my foot or turning the wheel. It has become my habit to turn off Auto Idle Stop when starting the car. I believe 90%+ of my driving is without it due to the unreliability. However the latest incident has me very concerned about driving the car. This along with other transmission/computer issues have been mentioned to my dealer during routine service. Many of those issues were corrected, however an issue with the Auto Idle Stop has not been discovered and I was advised to deactivate it when starting the car. Please keep in mind that the default setting is on. If I forget to deactivate or when someone borrows my car, this becomes a concerning issue. I contacted my Honda dealer and made an appointment to have it looked at again.
Vehicle idle or auto start /stop is not functioning.. It has happened multiple times incluiding today 09/23/2022, were the vehicle shuts of and it doesnt start.. All this codes and instructions come up to try to turn the vehicle back on... It always happens is a street light and most of the time is a busy intersection with cars honking and the vehicle is off... IT IS VERY UNSAFE... It takes a couple of minutes to start the car on.. My wife has been stranded for 10 minutes in the middle of traffic going by trying to start the car.. I had this issue at 40k miles and took it to the dealership and paid $746.96 to get the Valve adjusted to correct auto start... Now at 73k miles is happening again... It started at 60k.. Today 09/23/2022 im at the dealership and they say the cant find any code THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE...
The car sometimes fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or stop sign with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. Furthermore, on two recent occasions the car would not start at all after it was turned off to get gas. One of those times it sat for 40 minutes at the gas pump while waiting for a jump start (it eventually started on its own), and the other it had to be towed to the dealer. After the first incident, we were told there was nothing wrong with the battery and a month later, when the car had to be towed, we were told the battery was completely dead. The concern with the start/stop trouble has been reported to the dealer and we were told there was nothing they could see. There have been no warning lights, lamps or messages. The start/stop problem began approximately a year ago, and we have tried to turn that feature off when driving, due to the problems that occur, since we were told there wasn't a problem that could be seen. On the occasions we forget to take this step, it always struggles at a stoplight or intersection and if not caught in time, the car will stall out, sometimes taking 2-3 tries to restart. The vehicle is currently in the shop, awaiting a battery replacement as we have been told that is what is causing the start/stop issue.
Twice now and it seems to be worse in the summer when the air conditioning is running the auto shut off at a stoplight fails to restart the engine and the car dies at an intersection. This feature is dangerous and very frustrating to the point where I turn this feature off every time I get in the car now. This is happened both to me and to my 16-year-old son. Many times when it tries to reengage it has a hard time starting right back up. This is in addition to the two times it completely died.
The start- stop function will turn the vehicle off at a light, stop sign, or while stopped in traffic. Once the brake is released the vehicle fails to restart. The vehicle is now obstructing traffic and vulnerable to a rear in collision. Took the vehicle to the dealer five times and the were never able to reproduce the problem. The dealer replaced the battery staying out was low thus it was unable to restart the vehicle once it stopped. There had been not warnings when the start-stop was going to fail. It randomly happens in multiple driving conditions, i.e. highway or city driving conditions. For the vehicle to malfunction at random times puts my family and other drivers at risk each time it happens. Currently the Dealer can not find or duplicate the problem. They have been made fully aware of the problem.
Vehicle failed to restart when stopped at signal light the idle function shut the vehicle down but I had to completely restart the engine rather than it automatically restart as usual. A real traffic hazard
My 2017 Honda Pilot has intermittent issues with the automatic idle feature at stops. It will sometimes stall out completely, requiring me to shift to park and restart the car completely. This feature has never worked properly; therefore, I have to shut the feature off everytime I drive for safety. I have told my dealer about this problem numerous times and they have “not been able to replicate” the problem. They have replaced battery for this reason at least once but it did not fix the problem.
While driving in the highway , took an exit and slowed down and stop in a traffic and the car ‘s engine stop suddenly and Iam unable to restart it, the brake pad feels stuck and the neutral and drive button does not work, when you turn it on the other electronic still works like the audio and air conditioning but the engine will not turn on . It took us about an hour before the car start working again , causing a long traffic jam in the highway due to we can’t even put the car on neutral for other cars to help us move it on the side, 2 police officers came to the rescue to help us but it didn’t work until we tried again and for some divine intervention the engine start working again. I will have my car check at the honda service in the next few days.
The auto start/stop on my vehicle doesn't always work. I come to a complete stop, the vehicle turns off and when I pick my foot up off the brake to restart the car sometimes it will stall. There is no warning message or indication whether or not the car is about to stall, it just happens randomly. We cannot consistently replicate the issue. In order to restart the car I have to hit the start button, wait for the car to completely shut off and then turn the car back on creating a huge safety issue especially if I'm in the middle of an intersection waiting to make a left-hand turn. This is an accident waiting to happen. I brought my car to a Honda dealership approximately 6 months ago and brought the issue up to them. They told me they could find no issue with the car, couldn't replicate it and told me they had never heard of it before. It wasn't until I did an online search a few days ago that I realized that I wasn't the only one having this issue. I drive my children in this car and would be willing to allow anyone to inspect my vehicle to try to get to the root of the issue. This is a huge safety issue for what is supposed to be a safe family vehicle.
we bought April 2021 and 1st issue not even 60 days after purchase, dealer removed warranty without us knowing! We have had problems ever since with warming lights coming on & flashing on multiple occasions, even while traveling @ 50 mph!. Huge safety issue as the vehicle jolts and then looses power and can't pick up speed and go with flow of traffic! Someone will get in an accident because of it and that will be a HUGE liability for honda as you all are ware of these issues and are doing NOTHING to recall them and fix the problem! This is a problem for many honda pilot owners from all the honda forums i have read and research ive been doing! i want the issue resolved as this is NOT a random. I just read that there was a service bulletin in 8/2019 pertaining to this specific car/VIN and it references faulty fuel injectors. i have no way to know if this was completed. i feel i should be able to have the injectors serviced/replaced at NO COST to me as this is a HUGE problem with 2016-2017 pilots and the fact a honda dealer pretty much sold us a LEMON of a car! I want our pilot fixed as it is a problem that Honda has been having with 2016-2017 pilots and Honda should be liable for this! Happened again today and has been happening more frequent in the past few months but have been dealing with it since we bought the vehicle. recent mechanic said the ECM/PCM may be faulty as you cant get a viable code as everytime it happens it throws all kinds of warning lights & codes that are not accurate.
I have a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite. My car has had issues since I purchased with the stop/start feature and it’s progressively gotten worse. It’s currently failing every day. In 2017, it was the automatic stop not working right. It would intermittently come on/off when at a complete stop. It never quite functioned properly. It’s so bad, that I turn feature off when I start the car. Unfortunately, I can’t have it default to off so if I don’t remember to turn off auto-start every single time, then I have issues. My son was 3 years old when I bought my car. I would be at stops and the car would shut off. Then, it wouldn’t start. It would require me to press brake+gas+start button to reset car. I have come very close to getting into accidents while at stops and have had drivers with road rage come after me since I made them miss the light while my car restarts. I have been in the turn lane with heavy traffic and my car stops in the middle of the intersection. In 2018-2020, it progressively gotten worse. I took to Southeastern Honda to get looked at and was told that’s just how it works. After 2020, the car stops and will not restart at all. It would intermittently happen where I would need to get a jump start to get car running. I took to Space Coast Honda thinking it was my battery or starter. I was told that it tested fine, but still does it. In 2022, my car progressively got worse and requires a jump start. I since purchased a jump starter that is portable. I have to use it every single day. I have narrowed down the symptoms. If I drive 30 minutes and turn car off and immediately back on.. it will not turn over. I have to wait 4 hours and it works. I have measured my stop battery at 11.7 when it doesn’t work. If I wait 4 hours or jump start.. then it requires a 12.6 to start. I researched and found article that is exactly what happens https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2016-2020-honda-pilot-nhtsa-investigation-engine-failures/#ftag=COS-05-10aaa0j
The car will completely shut off at a light or stop sign, where there is no lights on no radio nothing . It’s does it all the time . The repair shop said it was my transmission so got it replaced, it just made it worse it does it more often than before, what scare me the most is that it happen to my kids while they was driving and it shut off in middle of a 4 way. They don’t know why it keeps happening. No explanation at all . They need to recall all they ones that are having trouble with them.then sometimes after you park it , it doesn’t want to start .
On multiple occasions, while the auto idle was one, I stop at a red light or intersection and when I lift my foot off the brake the vehicle shuts completely off. One time, I called 911 for police officer assistance to alert that I was stranded in the middle of the highway. I was so afraid I was going to be rear ended by fast moving traffic. Just yesterday, while stopped at a red light, a fire engine stopped and 4 fire fighters got out to offer assistance while I sat there stranded alone on this busy highway trying to get my vehicle to start back up. The brakes lock up and the vehicle completely shuts down. Each time I try many times to get my car started and it takes many attempts to crank the vehicle. I asked my service agent about the problem and he was unaware. He said they would have to drive the car to see if it happens with them and there is a diagnostic fee for this. I declined because it does not happen every time and I felt quite sure it would not happen when they were looking for it. This malfunction is sporadic.
When my auto stop idle engine kicks on, and stalls when I try to depress brake and press gas. It has happened approximately 10 times over the past year and a half, always in an intersection when it’s dangerous. I have taken to the dealership more than once and they have been unable to resolve and recommended I replace my battery which I did which has not made the situation better. I also just filed a complaint with Honda but this is very dangerous and needs attention.
The auto engine idle stop fails to restart the engine after stopping at stop lights, stop signs, in traffic, etc. Even after repeatedly "working" to turn off the car and turn it back on, it can take up to 2 minutes to effectively turn off the car so it may be restarted. This feels extremely dangerous at stoplights, but especially when caught in stop and go traffic on the highway or on a bridge. Cars go around into the intersection, honk, and when traffic picks up from the stop-and-go situation, cars drive by at high rates of speed while I sit motionless in the middle of the highway. While I more often than not remember to turn off this "feature" when starting the car, there are times that I forget. It has been horrible for my newly licensed driver. The anxiety and stress this has caused has led to learned anxiety while riding in and driving other cars that do not have this "feature." The problem was first reported to my local dealer in 2021. Today I asked the dealer to look at it again, while the SUV was undergoing a fix for the hood recall, and I was informed it would be a $140 diagnostic fee and then whatever the cost would be to "fix" observed problems. The dealer has not documented my complaints about said problem, though they ran diagnostics and indicated that the starter and battery were operating according to spec. They "reset" the system in November, but it did not help with the problem quickly reappearing.
Today (8/2/22) is the second time this has happened to my vehicle: The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. My car died, with bare components still working (windows and a few lights came on - battery and oil), but I was in the middle of a busy intersection when this happened, which is also a few feet away from a railroad crossing, which would have endangered the lives if others were behind me if they failed to pay attention to my hazard lights - which they did). My battery was replaced at the Honda dealership in April 2021, so it's less than 2 years old. A jump was required for the vehicle to restart and is now at Germain Honda of Dublin (again) for inspection of the issues.
Per PE 22-005, with Auto Idle Stop enabled, when coming to a stop light, I stopped. When the light turned green, and I let my foot off the brake, the engine would not restart, as if the battery were dead. I put the car in Park, turned it off, turned it back on, and was able to restart the engine. This happened in about March of 2021. Since that time I always disable Auto Idle Stop, as it may create an unsafe traffic condition or accident if this were to happen in traffic. I was going to replace the battery, but have not done so since the occurrence 16 mos. ago, and have had no other issues with the battery in that time.
I was stopped at a red light. The stop idol engaged and the vehicle did not start when I attempted to make my turn. The instrument panel indicated that I should shift to park. I did so and attempted to restart the vehicle but it did not start. After a number of attempts to restart it eventually turned on and I drove straight home. I was in the middle of a major intersection with my son in the car. Car zooming by me as my car was stuck in the turning lane. If a car failing to start as a result of a feature that was integrated by the manufacturer isn’t a safety issue then I don’t know what a safety concern would be classified as according the this institution. Permanently shutting off the feature is not an option as it renegades every time you start the car initially. The car has stalled a few times prior to today’s incident but this is the first time it failed to restart. As I drove home I reengaged the system to see what would happen, if failed to restart again and began the stall every time once the idol stop was engaged. This is unsafe. If I forget to turn off the function of this feature and I am on an expressway what happens if the car fails to restart, my brakes lights may not be pressed as I am thinking I am simply going to drive off and I could get rear ended at 60 miles an hour. This is a safety issue. This is a ticketing time bomb and further delays are putting thousands of lives at risk. I did I not know about the problem until I research the internet to find a solution. Why haven’t we been informed of this problem? Is this institution waiting for the body count to be high enough to warrant a consumer alert? This is a safety issue.
The Auto Start/Stop feature on my 2017 Honda Pilot has had issues for the last 2 year. It started with the engine occasionally "hesitating" to restart after I held the brake pedal down at a stop light. As it started to happen more frequently, I took it to my Honda dealer and they told me that they could not recreate the issue and thus could not diagnose and fix it. Within the last 6 months, the issue has become more and more frequent and severe to the point that I have been worried about the car not restarting and have been manually turning off the Auto Start/Stop feature when I drive the vehicle. It does seem to occur more frequently in hot weather when I running the A/C and there is more of load on the engine and system. On July 16, 2022, I forgot to turn off the Auto Start/Stop feature, and at the first stoplight that I stopped at, the feature turned on, shut off my engine and then failed to restart. I had to put the car in Park and then it took me a few moments to get the car to re-start. The vehicle was very slow to respond, as I was afraid of the car not restarting at all. After a couple of minutes the car did restart. I turned off the Auto Start/Stop feature and did not have any further issues on my drive home. After the failure to restart from the Auto feature, my dashboard told me to put the car in park and restart. I do not recall if any other warning lights appeared, as I was franticly trying to get car restarted in the middle of traffic and cars honking at me. Once the car restarted all warning lights disappeared. Upon returning home that day, I Googled the issue before making an appointment with my dealer again. I became aware of NTHSA's investigation into this issue. From my experience, Honda should recall these vehicles and fix the issue. Someone could have hit me from behind at speed, as it was a green light and not everyone is always fully paying attention, or has poor depth perception.
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. This has happened on numerous occasions and sometimes will not even restart manually, causing other vehicles to have to go around and dodge the stalled vehicle in the middle of busy intersections. Honda mechanic can not reproduce the problem when in the shop, leading to no resolution. Problem continues even after having the battery completely replaced and cleaning the fuel injectors.
auto stop/start feature. we have to insure to turn it off when we drive to avoid it not working properly...stops completely and we have restart the car manually and it sometimes seems it doesn't want to restart. if it does work, power to other systems, radio, all blink off then on. we don't trust this feature and thought it was battery issue but shop tested battery and no issues with it. we have been lucky when this has happened, with only one car behind us when it failed to restart in the city at night. my wife was scared. i had to talk her out of the situation on my phone, the other car was patient. this could cause an accident. this has been happening since 2018 and we only avoid by shutting the feature off. honda needs to reimburse us for this worthless and dangerous feature. they also should allow us to turn it off since it is a safety issue
I moved into the left lane to merge onto another road. I had to come to a stop because a car had was stopped ahead of me. After that car moved, I lifted my foot from the brake and pushed the gas to make my left hand turn. The car didn’t move. A light flashed on the car that said something like “to start engine push brake and push start” I looked down at the gear shifter and noticed it was on N. I tried to hit “drive.” The car flashed the sign again. I put the car in park. I tried to put the car back in drive. The car would not change gears. I put on my hazard lights, turned off the car, and restarted it. The car transitioned from park to drive. There have been many instances where I’m merging onto a roadway or slowing down to turn left where the car hesitates. I will be braking. I lift my foot from the brake to press the gas pedal and nothing happens. The car moves because it’s going downhill, but the gas pedal is not causing the car to move. When the car does finally move, it moves with a huge lurch. There have been times that I'm unable to move my car with the gas pedal while crossing traffic. It's terrifying and Honda says that they are unaware of the problem and unable to replicate it.
When exiting the interstate and stopped at stop sign, vehicle shut off due to auto stop/start feature. When I released the break to go, the vehicle did not start and completely shut down. The vehicle had to be placed in park, break pressed and ignition button pressed again. It took a little bit but it did start again. After this incident, this has also happened about 10 more times stop lights around town. It has always started again but it takes a minute to restart and multiple steps are needed for it to be restarted. Traffic has been backed up while I attempt to restart the vehicle.
The Idle/Stop function stopped operating at a stop light. The car completely shut off. My wife pressed the brake and ignition but the car did not immediately restart. After a few long minutes, the function worked. This is the second incident with the Honda Pilot. In May 2022, the vehicle stopped at an intersection and cut off. I took it to the Honda Service and had diagnostics ran. I was charged for the test but the Service Department did not find anything wrong. They recommended a new battery which I purchased. This was in May 2022. There is definitely an issue. No use taking it back to the dealer, they don't know the source of the problem.
Auto engine idle stop not working correctly. Have seen others online with same issue.
While driving I first noticed the radio would shut off- almost like an electric surge (Spring 2021). I brought in to local dealer to assess. Dealer couldn't replicate so was dismissed. Car slipped into "sport" mode randomly (July 2021). Brought in to dealer and couldn't be replicated. Then the car would take longer to start at a stop light. Eventually, at times, the car would NOT START when the brake was released and gas paddle depressed (August 2021). There is no warning or indiction that this will happen. It is periodic, random and unpredictable. The stall out has happened on long and short rides. This has occurred at stop lights, stop and go traffic on a busy highway and entering traffic circles. I could have easily been rear-ended at any of these stalls. I am afraid when driving this car. The dashboard lights up with alerts and the car must be put in park and the start button used to get the car turned on. This takes time to restart the car- further increasing chance of an accident. I have brought the car to the dealer on at least 5 service visits and the problem persists. The dealer reports they were able to reproduce the stall at most recent service visit (6/16/2022). Fuel injector replacements (8/2021), PCM software reboot (10/2021), battery replacement (3rd battery in life of car), and now awaiting valve adjustment (part on national back order). Battery #1 replaced 3/2020, battery #2 replaced 1/2022. The problem persists despite these "fixes". I have requested that the dealer escalate this problem to Honda Corporate.
The auto start\stop feature doesn't work and is extremely unsafe and dangerous. I will be sitting at a stop light and when the light turns green I take my foot off the break and the car will completely turn off and error messages will appear. Multiple times it has completely turned off the car and the car couldn't be restarted right away, leaving us stranded in the middle of the street trying to restart the car while cars are going by me. It takes at least a minute for the car to restart once it turns itself off. This has happened at least 10 times. We always turn the feature off when we drive now but sometimes we just forget because it's extremely inconvenient and difficult to remember that we have to turn off the feature every single time we start the car. When we took it to the dealership mechanic they told us we needed a new battery and that would fix the problem. Our battery was still at 50% and yet we still changed it but the problem has never gone away.
The idle shut off feature has shut the car off and then not restarted when it was supposed to. This has happened in two intersections and a stoplight. When it doesn’t restart, I am unable to do anything, shift in to park or restart the car. It is extremely unsafe as it leaves you sitting in the middle of traffic or wherever it decides to leave you and you can’t do anything with the vehicle. There is no warning when it does it. I have not approached the dealer since there is a button to override the feature I figured they would not listen. However I think it is ridiculous that you have to push a button to make sure your vehicle doesn’t die on you while driving. I would like to see the auto idle feature removed from the vehicle.
Automatic shut off and car would not turn back on
There is a major and potentially dangerous issue with the idle stop/start feature. When the car is at a stop and the engine shuts off (gas saving feature) and sometimes the car will fail to start again, leaving me stranded in the middle of an intersection or whatever road I'm on. Sometimes all of the collision systems fail to start again (dash warning), sometimes it takes minutes to get it restarted which results in angry drivers behind me and the potential to create an accident. This issue began within a few months of buying the car. I had informed the original Honda dealership where I purchased the car but they failed to properly document the issue because there were no error codes populated by the on-board computer. After it happened dozens of times I took the vehicle to a different dealership and was able to demonstrate the problem directly to a technician after two separate appointment attempts. They then agreed to replace the battery. This helped for a time period of about 9 months and then it started again. I believe there is a wide-spread issue with the computer's ignition system and I'm not alone, although Honda seems to pretend they've never heard of the issue. I have attached my first 'documented' (although it was reported YEARS before this) service report followed by the second in which they finally replaced the battery and admitted fault. I am hopping the NHTSA can investigate and help the owners of these Pilots come to a permanent resolution. Thank you for your time. The automatic start/stop killed the engine at a stop light, and took several tries to restart the engine. I always disengage this feature now to avoid being stranded.
2017 Honda Pilot does not restart when auto idle feature is engaged. The engine idles, as designed, but does not restart. Instead, the engine shuts off entirely and we lose all power features. On one occasion, we were stopped on hill on a coastal highway and began rolling backwards. Fortunately, I was able to stop our Pilot before it rolled into the vehicle behind us but it was difficult as the power brakes were not working. This has been an issue since we purchased the car new and the dealership has not been helpful in the least. We've taken it to them several times and they had it for roughly a month on one occasion. They've told us repeatedly that they haven't heard of this issue before (a simple Google search will show that other consumers have experienced the same thing) and are now telling us the issue is no longer covered under the vehicle warranty. Since the dealership was unwilling to help us, I opened cases with Honda America but they, too, have been unresponsive.
The auto stop/start feature does not always restart the car when I release the brake after stopping. Mostly in town at stop signs and red lights but recently it happened while I was in stop and go traffic on an interstate. At all locations I was blocking traffic (flashers on of course) and hoping no one hit me while I sat for a few minutes trying to restart my car. From experience I have found that I have to release the brake and push my engine start button a couple times to completely turn off everything then push the brake and button to start the car. A few times it I had to do that cycle several times before it actually restarted. Meanwhile I am in the middle of the road completely blocking traffic. My dealer was “unable to replicate” so my solution has been to turn off that feature. Unfortunately, auto stop/start is automatically on every time I start my car … so this happens when I forget to turn it off. There are times that it works and the car restarts but even then the electrical system shuts down. Radio turns off and back on as the car is restarting and dash lights turn off then on, which reminds me to once again turn the feature off. I have had a lot of electrical issues with this car due to a sunroof leak so I chalked it up to my ongoing electrical problems until I saw the article today about other complaints from people having the same issue. The date listed below was the most recent incident but it has occurred many times.
Our car is 1,100 miles over warranty and the air conditioner system broke. The dealer cannot tell me anything about why it happened, just that they need to replace the entire system, including the compressor and condenser. Our AC is blowing hot air now (and we live in Georgia and it's the summer), so the car is basically undriveable. It's going to be $5900 to replace.
i was stranded multiple times at redlight signal and while taking left on yeild due to idle stop and it took me 30 seconds to start the vehicle . When i went to show room they replaced the battery which fixed the problem. Problem is everything else work fine except idle stop start and it caused lot on anxiety when i got stuck in middle of intersection.
The auto engine idle engaged when car came to a stop and then stalled out my car. This has happened about 4 times. I am unsure of the exact date of first incident but this has been happening for a couple of years. This required me to turn off the car and then restart. Usually at a red light causing the driver behind me to be confused and angry. Usually I will turn off this feature when I turn on the car but if I don’t remember and this feature engages it it doesn’t always stall out the car but the sound of the engine sounds like it’s having a hard time restarting and sometimes the radio will cut out (like the battery is off for the car) for a second. This was reported to my dealer a couple years ago and they found no issue (took it out for one test drive) and had never heard of this happening as they say.
The engine won’t restart on its own from a complete stop, have to disable the auto engine shutdown due to concerns of car not re-starting.
We have had several instances when our Honda shuts off and will not restart. Several times we either a) have to leave it sit for hours b) press really hard on the brake pedal and hold the start button down for an extended period of time c) get the other set of keys which seems to then allow the vehicle to start or d) jump it to reset the issue so it will start and run. We also think this is somehow tied to the auto start stop or restart function.
When parked, the car anti-theft alarms will honk loudly waking up everyone noisily; the headlights will be turn on & keep running (even if it is manually turned off); the dashboard lights will be flickering; relays clicking; and sometimes the car will turn itself on. The noise & lights can't be turned off from the keyfob. The only way to silence it is to disconnect the battery and leave the car unlocked which is not safe when parked in the street or anywhere.
While driving, I noticed a stall with the speed then I immediately noticed that the shift gear was on N position, apparently the shift gear was pushed accidentally even without pushing the button on the side to change gear. Also, my car kept randomly alarming and with static flashing on the dashboard while on park. I already changed the battery thinking its the battery problem but the alarming persisted. I took it to Honda and was told it's the keyless unit system, needs replacement and will cost around $900. Upon checking online, I learned that there was a recall for 2016-2017 Honda Pilot in 2020 for the same problem but when I called Honda I was told my car VIN was not part of the recall. How is that possible when my car is showing the same problem and also manufactured in 2017? How can my car's VIN be included in the recall. Pls help me have my car fixed.
On Saturday, 30 April 2022, While driving approximately 65 mph on a state highway in Alabama from Florida, the sunroof spontaneously exploded. Thankfully, at the time of the incident the sunroof and shade were both closed. However, had the shade been open, all of the glass would’ve shattered on my two children, my husband, and myself. Being that this occurred while I was driving, it could have resulted in a serious accident. I have never had any issues with the sunroof up until this incident. There were no warning lamps or system messages that there were any problems with my vehicle. My vehicle has always been regularly serviced at a certified Honda dealership service center since I purchased it in 2017.
Vehicle randomly does not automatically restart after the auto engine idle stop engages when in stop-and-go traffic or when stopped at an intersection, resulting in a stalled vehicle in the middle of traffic. Takes multiple attempts of hitting the start-stop button to restart the vehicle. Have taken the vehicle to the dealer numerous times and each time told they can't figure out what causes the problem, but they replaced the battery at a cost of $500...didn't fix the problem. No warning indicators before the vehicle stalls, the engine simply doesn't start again after the brake is released, which should disengage the auto idle.
My car keeps stalling after being in the idle engine mode. At intersections waiting to turn left, or sitting in traffic on the freeway, at a 4 way stop, it has happened numerous times in the past year where the engine is in idle mode while my foot is on the brake, and when my foot comes off to switch to gas, the gear shifts to N automatically. It's seizing up and I can't hit the button to switch back to Drive or Park. I have to turn the whole car off and that takes awhile to do that too. Every time I go to the dealership, they do a quick battery test and it's been in the normal range. They cannot replicate the issue. There have been so many times I've created a traffic hazard, stalled traffic, and almost been hit by a car. They finally advised I turn off the engine idle option but then it defeats the whole purpose to be environmentally friendly. There is something wrong with the electronics or battery with the car. It is a huge safety issue that is not being taken seriously at the dealership.
I was driving down the highway and heard a loud noise. After a couple of minutes, I realized that my sunroof had shattered.
On my way to work yesterday, I took my exit and stopped at the light where the idle engine function enabled and then my car completely shut off on its own. It took multiple tries to restart the car. Meanwhile, the light turned green, multiple cars were honking at me, and could have most certainly rear ended me. If it was the next street over, it would have been quite a dangerous situation as it is a super busy area. Upon taking it to the dealership today, they cannot figure out the issue.
When I turn on the car, an error pops up saying KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. I already changed the battery in the key fob and that didn’t solve anything. I’ve restarted the car several times and the error continues to pop up.
Driving to work in the morning after owning the car for a few years and and dash displays "Keyless Start System Problem".
WHEN I COMPLETELY STOP AT A LIGHT (STATIONARY), AND HAVE THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP "ENABLED", MY ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND THE WARNINGS ON DASHBOARD "COLLISION MITIGATION" FLASHES. MUSIC AND A/C IS TURNED OFF AS WELL. I NEED TO PUT THE CAR BACK IN "PARK" AND RESTART THE ENGINE. I'M AFRAID SOMEONE WILL REAR END ME. I ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH MY BATTERY LOOSING CHARGING EVEN THOUGH ITS STILL GOOD. I BELIEVE THE AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP FEATURE IS PULLING SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF BATTERY CHARGE. WAITING TO HEAR IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM SINCE I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA IS AWARE AND TRYING TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY.

THE AUTO SHUT OFF WHEN THE BRAKE IS FULLY DEPLOYED FAILS WHEN PRESSURE IS RELEASED AND THE CAR WILL NOT RE-ENERGIZE. LEAVING A CAR DEAD AT A LIGHT THAT JUST TURNED GREEN. REQUIRES ME TO PUT CAR IN PARK, THEN RESTART THEN PUT INTO DRIVE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. NO ERROR LIGHTS. AUTO SHOP CAN'T FIX. MUST REMEMBER TO MANUALLY SHUT OFF THE AUTO SHUT OFF EACH TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON. NOT SAFE. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES AS THE CAR BEHIND EXPECTED TO GO AT THE JUST THEN GREEN LIGHT. AT ONE LIGHT NO CARS WERE STOPPED BEHIND ME BUT A CAR APPROACHED A LIGHT THAT HAD BEEN GREEN DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS STOPPED WITH A FAILED ENGINE. SCARY. IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY.
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

MY 2017 HONDA PILOT ELITE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE AUTO START/STOP "FEATURE". THIS FEATURE CAN BE DISABLED, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY - YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR. SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS MY CAR HAS TOTALLY DIED WHEN I'M AT STOP LIGHTS OR INTERSECTIONS. THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ENGAGES AND SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF, BUT WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND DIES, AND THE CAR MOVES TO NEUTRAL. I'VE FIGURED OUT AT THIS POINT THAT I NEED TO SHIFT TO PARK, AND THEN PUSH THE START BUTTON, BUT SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES TO START. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSIEST INTERSECTION IN TOWN WITH CARS WHIZZING AROUND ME. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE IT (IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME) AND THERE'S NO ERROR CODE SO "AT THIS POINT" THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY SAID THEY'D NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE, BUT A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH TURNED UP MANY FORUMS ON WHICH PEOPLE ARE RAISING THIS VERY DANGEROUS, POTENTIALLY DEADLY ISSUE. HERE'S A SAMPLE: HTTPS://WWW.PILOTEERS.ORG/THREADS/ELITE-SHUTS-OFF-AT-STOP-LIGHT.157005/ HTTPS://WWW.CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/HONDA/PILOT/ENGINE-SHUT-OFF-WITHOUT-WARNING-PROBLEMS.PHP HTTPS://COMMUNITY.CARTALK.COM/T/2017-HONDA-PILOT-STALLING-AT-INTERSECTIONS/161704 HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/HONDA/PILOT/2016/ENGINE/ENGINE.SHTML HTTPS://WWW.VEHIE.COM/COMPLAINTS/HONDA?VEHIE_MODEL=PILOT I'M NOW LOOKING AT TRADING THIS CAR IN FOR A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T HAVE THIS "FEATURE" BUT AM WORRIED ABOUT THE FAMILY THAT PURCHASES THE CAR - IT'S NOT FAIR TO THEM. PLEASE MAKE HONDA RECALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS "FEATURE" AND LET US DISABLE THE FEATURE PERMANENTLY, RATHER THAN EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR.

THIS PROBLEM INVOLVES THE AUTO-IDLE STOP FEATURE OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE STOPPED IN A LONG LINE OF CARS, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, I HAD BEEN MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY IN THIS LINE. EACH TIME I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE RESTARTS AUTOMATICALLY, AND I PULL FORWARD. THEN, WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE AGAIN AND STOP, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, BUT USUALLY GOES INTO ACCESSORY MODE. FIRST, THIS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION AND THE RADIO, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD SHUT DOWN, INCORRECTLY, THEN RESTART ONCE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. BUT THEN, ON THIS PARTICULAR SATURDAY, WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE ONE PARTICULAR TIME...THE CAR DID NOT RESTART. THE WHOLE CAR, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. I THEN TRIED TO MANUALLY RESTART THE CAR BY PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND PRESSING THE START BUTTON. THE CAR JUST CLICKED, AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART!! I TRIED OVER AND OVER, AND NOTHING! I HAD 40 + CARS BEHIND ME IN THIS LINE! EVERYONE WAS BEEPING THEIR HORN AND IMPATIENT. I THEN TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL SO I COULD TRY TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY AND THE LINE....BUT THE DASH WARNING MESSAGE SAID THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT IN NEUTRAL WITHOUT THE CAR BEING STARTED!! THE CAR WAS DEAD! I COULDN'T MOVE IT, I COULDN'T TURN ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS, NOTHING! IT WAS A BAD SITUATION. I HAD TO CALL A FRIEND TO BRING JUMPER CABLES TO JUMP START THE CAR. BUT IT CLEARLY WAS NOT A BATTERY ISSUE. THE BATTERY WAS CHECKED AFTER I GOT THE CAR STARTED AGAIN...AND IT IS FULLY CHARGED! SO THIS WAS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THE AUTO- IDLE STOP FEATURE!! I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE! IT'S PUT MANY PEOPLE IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. I REPORTED THIS TO HONDA USA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND A RECALL PUT IN EFFECT!

AUTO IDLE STOPPED ENGINE WAITING IN TRAFFIC AND THEN IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, PRESSED THE GAS AND NOTHING WOULD WORK. EVENTUALLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN IT "OFF" AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON.

I GOT A WARNING ON MY DASHBOARD SAYS "EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM" MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 58K MILES ON IT. I CHECKED THE RECALL BUT IS NOT THERE. I CHAT ONE OF THE AGENT "RENEE' TOLD ME TO FILE COMPLAINT IF I WANT. IS MY VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE? THANK YOU.

FEW MINUTES AFTER MY WIFE GOT HOME THE CAR ALARM BEGAN BEEPING AND THERE WAS A FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. WE CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE KEPT GETTING BIGGER. ONCE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE WE SAW A HUGE DAMAGE ON THE CAR. WE DON'T KNOW HOW THE FIRE COULD HAVE STARTED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OFF . WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS COMPANY'S CAR.

THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED OR AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN IDLING, FLIPS FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. THE THE BATTERY LIGHTS RED AND THE OIL LIGHTS RED ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE SEEMINGLY SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK, PRESS THE START/STOP BUTTON AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTS. IT GENERALLY HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW EPISODICALLY, BUT NOT OVER LONG STRETCHES OF TIME. IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE UNTIL IT HAPPENS THE NEXT TIME.

KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM - SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURS ON HONDA PILOT. GOT THE ERROR AROUND 60K MILES. 90% OF THE TIME IT COMES ON. MY CAR NO LONGER LOCKS ON ITS OWN WHEN I WALK AWAY.

WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED BY APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE AUTO-STOP FEATURE IDLES THE ENGINE AS EXPECTED AND NORMAL FOR THE FEATURE. HOWEVER, ON OCCASION WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE ENGINE STALLS INSTEAD OF RESTARTING AS EXPECTED. THE ENGINE STALL IS DIFFICULT TO RECOVER FROM SINCE THE CAR MUST FIRST BE PUT IN PARK THEN RESTARTED, WHICH IS NOT INTUITIVE, ESPECIALLY WHEN UNDER STRESS IN TRAFFIC OR DEPARTING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT FOR ABOUT A YEAR. OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THE ONLY THING THEY COULD SPECULATE WAS THAT UNDER THE AUTO-STOP FEATURE WITH THE ENGINE IDLED, BATTERY VOLTAGE DROPS AND THE CAR'S COMPUTER RESTARTS THE ENGINE BEFORE THE VOLTAGE GETS TOO LOW. HOWEVER, IF THE SYSTEM DOESN'T RESTART THE CAR WITH ADEQUATE BATTERY CRANKING AMPS REMAINING, THE ENGINE MAY STALL VICE RESTART AS REQUIRED. THIS OCCURS EITHER WHEN THE VOLTAGE GETS LOW ENOUGH OR WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. BASED UPON THIER BEST ASSESSMENT AND INABILITY TO FIND ANY SPECIFIC FAULT, WE REPLACED THE BATTERY PER THEIR SUGGESTION. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER. ON THE INTERNET, WE FOUND NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS TYPE OF FAULT. IN SEVERAL INSTANCES, IT CAUSED A CHALLENGING SITUATION IN TRAFFIC OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHICH HAS BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE AS WELL. THE ONLY WORK-AROUND THAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED REASONABLE SUCCESS WITH WAS TO PUSH THE AUTO-STOP DISABLE BUTTON UPON STARTING THE CAR. THIS OF COURSE IS A WORK-AROUND AND HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

1. I HAD A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I WAS TOLD BY HONDA DEALER IN SAN LUIS OBISPO,CA THAT MY BRAKES WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. BUT I NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 70 MPH THEN APPLY BRAKES, THE CAR SHAKES. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO HONDA AND THEY THINK IT IS THE ROTOR AND FIXED IT YESTERDAY. THE OTHER NEW PROBLEM IS THE ALARM THAT KEPT GOING OFF RANDOMLY WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND LOCKED. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR AFTER THE OIL CHANGE A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT MENTION ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY ALARM GOING OFF WHILE MY CAR WAS AT THE DELEARSHIP. I WENT BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST YESTERDAY AND THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT. THIS WILL COST CLOSE TO $ 1000 DIAGNOSTIC, PARTS AND LABOR. I AM TOLD IF I DO NOT REPLACE THE CONTROL UNIT, THE PROBLEM CAN GET WORSE WHERE MY CAR WON'T START ANYMORE. SO I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT REPLACE IT. SO I BROUGHT MY CAR JUST FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WEEKS AGO AND NOW I HAVE PROBLEM WITH ROTOR AND CONTROL UNIT THAT COST ME $ 502.72 YESTERDAY AND ANOTHER $700 PLUS DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE CONTROL UNIT. FOR THE CONTROL UNIT TO FAIL IN JUST 3 YEARS, SUGGESTS IT MAY BE DEFECTIVE TO BEGIN WITH OR VERY POOR QUALITY. UNFORTUNATELY IT JUST WENT OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM REPORTING THIS IN CASE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA PILOT THAT THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND FIX.

KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR STARTED TO APPEAR AS SOON AS THE 3 YEARS WARRANTY WAS OVER! THE ERROR WOULD GO ON BUT THE CAR DOES TURN ON. LATELY, IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL PRESSES ON THE BUTTON AND IT APPEARS TO WORK BETTER IF THE FOB IS CLOSE TO THE BUTTON. THE WALK AWAY LOCK HAS NOT WORKED SINCE THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR BEGAN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN START THE CAR.

WHEN STOPNIDLE ENGAGES (AT A STOP LIGHT FOR EXAMPLE) WHEN YOU LET OFF THE BRAKE AND IT WOULD NORMALLY START BACK UP IT COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. TELLS YOU TO SHIFT INTO PARK. IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY TO BE SITTING THERE AT A LIGHT AND YOUR CAR IS TOTALLY DEAD. I WAS ON A 2 LANE ROAD, STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AND LET OFF THE BREAK TO RE-ENGAGE AND GO BUT NOTHING. HAD TO SHIFT TO PARK, KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE AND RE-START. PRAYING I DON'T GET REAR ENDED. CAR HAS 41K ON IT AND AT 35K DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY CAUSE IT WOULD CUT OUT WHEN IT RE STARTED BUT NEVER HAD SHIFT COMPLETELY DOWN LIKE TODAY. IT WAS JUST A AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE 5 DAYS AGO. 2017 PILOT ELITE. I BOUGHT BRAND NEW JUST UNDER 3 YRS AGO. *TR

KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR MESSAGE ON DASH. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER SINCE DECEMBER 2016, THIS ISN'T COVERED BEYOND 3 YEAR WARRANTY. WHILE TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-95 FROM BALTIMORE, MD TO WASHINGTON D.C., NEAR KENILWORTH AVENUE, THE ENGINE IDLE SHUTOFF ON MY 2017 HONDA PILOT TOURING ENGAGED WHEN I WAS FORCED TO STOP DUE TO A TRAFFIC SLOWDOWN. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, INSTEAD OF RESTARTING AS IT SHOULD HAVE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STALLED. I SHIFTED INTO "PARK", ENGAGED MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. WHILE STOPPED, I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING AS SOON AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. I WAS IN A CENTER LANE AND UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE OR MOVE IT FROM TRAFFIC. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND SEVERAL MORE TRIES. I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE IDLE SHUTOFF AND THE DEALER HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY, WHICH I THOUGHT HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THIS TIME IT HAPPENED THEY SAY THE BATTERY IS GOOD AND "CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM". THERE IS A BROAD BASE OF INTERNET POSTINGS FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 2016 - 2018 PILOT ELITE AND TOURING VEHICLES, WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION. THERE IS NO WAY TO PERMANENTLY TURN THIS FEATURE OFF AND I BELIEVE IT REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGHWAY TRAVEL.

THIS IS IN REGARDS TO THE IDLE STOP "FEATURE" OF THE HONDA PILOT. WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A FULL STOP, THE ENGINE CUTS OFF IN ORDER TO SAVE FUEL LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. HOWEVER, WHEN IT IS TIME TO MOVE AGAIN, THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALLS CAUSING THE CAR TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF. THIS CAN BE POTENTIALLY FATAL AS THE BRAKES THEN DO NOT ENGAGE FULLY (CAR IS OFF) AND A MESSAGE APPEARS IN CONSOLE SAYING "TO START ENGINE: PRESS BRAKE AND PUSH (ENGINE ON)" . THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HONDA SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. THIS BEHAVIOR IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE. *TR

THE DEALER SUGGESTED TO BUY MY CAR BACK ' PUT IT BACK ON THE LOT AND PUT ME INTO A DIFFERENT LOAN THAT WOULD INCREASE MY PAYMENTS. I AM LOOKING FOR SOME ASSISTANCE HERE SO THAT I MAY BE IN A VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE, DEPENDABLE, AND RELIABLE. AUTO ENGINE IDLE STOP MALFUNCTIONING, LEAVING VEHICLE STALLED AND STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN LAST MONTH (SEPT 2019) NOW WITH LAST BEING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH YOUNG SON IN CAR. REQUIRED A TOW ($174 TOWING BILL) AND THEN JUMP (VEHICLE HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM BUSY TRAFFIC ASAP) AND VERY FORTUNATE WE WERE NOT HIT AS VEHICLE WAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF 60 MPH TRAFFIC FOR NEARLY 2 HOURS. THE ISSUE HAPPENS AFTER THE ENGINE IDLE AUTO OFF KICKS OFF THE ENGINE BUT THEN WILL NOT RESTART WHEN FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE BRAKE. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A BATTERY ISSUE AS BATTERY HAS BEEN FINE SINCE AND HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. ENGINE IDLE AUTO STOP FEATURE CANNOT BE TURNED OFF PERMANENTLY AND ONE MUST REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO MITIGATE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE! CAR IS APPROX 2.5 YEARS OLD AND HAS APPROX 34K MILES. ISSUE HAS ONLY SURFACED RECENTLY HOWEVER. TOWING BILL ATTACHED.

I COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE BUT MY PASSENGER NOTICED WIND NOISE AND PUSHED THE SUNROOF VISOR BACK. GLASS FELL IN THE CAR. WE STOPPED AT THE NEXT EXIT AND FOUND THAT THE SUNROOF HAD A HUGE HOLE AND THE GLASS HAD FALLEN ONTO THE VISOR. NOBODY WAS INJURED BECAUSE THE VISOR KEPT THE GLASS OUT OF THE CABIN. THIS MIGHT BE AN UNKNOWN ISSUE, BUT UPON STARTUP, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY STIFF AND HARD. FEW TIMES, I COULDN'T START THE CAR BECAUSE THE BRAKE WAS SO STIFF, I COULDN'T PRESS ON IT WITH MY FOOT, AND IT WENT INTO ACCESSORY MODE. I TOOK IT TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS, THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT IT'S NORMAL. ADVANTAGE HONDA TRIED REPLACING THE BATTERY, BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. ALL THEY COULD DO IS A MULTIPOINT DIAGNOSTIC ON IT, WHERE THE COMPUTER WON'T SHOW ANYTHING. DEALERS ARE TELLING ME IT'S NORMAL, BUT WHY IS MY NEIGHBOR'S 2017 HONDA PILOT NOT GIVING HIM THE SAME PROBLEM? IT CAN'T BE NORMAL BECAUSE WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUG. 2017, AND UP UNTIL MID OCT. 2017, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FINE. THEN AFTER THAT, IT ONLY HAPPEN OVERNIGHT, THEN NOW IT'S HAPPENING EVERY TIME I START THE CAR, IT GETS VERY FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU HAVE TO SLAM THE BTRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO START THE CAR. I'VE DRIVEN OTHER VEHICLES WITH PUSH BUTTON STARTS FOR MANY YEARS IN THE PAST, AND I'VE NEVER ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. COULD THIS BE AN ISSUE WITH THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM LOOSING VACUUM SUPPLY WHERE DEALERS DON'T WANT TO BOTHER TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY DON'T MAKE THAT MUCH MONEY IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY? I'VE CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA, THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT TO A DEALER, BUT DEALERS ARE NOT HELPING OR EVEN EXPLAIN WHY IS THE BRAKE PEDAL DOING THAT OTHER THAN SAY IT'S NORMAL. AS SOON AS I START THE CAR, THE CAR RUNS FINE. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHY MY CAR IS LIKE THIS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
TWO TIMES MY 2017 HONDA PILOT WITH ONLY 2600 MILES ON IT HAS LOST ENGINE POWER AT SPEEDS OF 45 PLUS MILES PER HOUR. THE SERVICE ENGINE NOW LIGHT FLASHES ALONG WITH ALL OTHER SYSTEM WARNINGS INCLUDING EMISSION WARNINGS, VEHICLE STABILITY WARNINGS, AND ENGINE POWER FAILURE WARNINGS. I HAVE READ AT LEAST 30 OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS HAPPENING. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THERE IS NO SHOULDER AND TRACTOR TRAILERS BEHIND YOU LIKE HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS FIVE MILES FROM A SAFE EXIT ON AN UPHILL INCLINE. THIS IS A VERY BAD ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. CAR ALSO FEELS LIKE IT IS MISFIRING OFTEN LEADING UP TO THESE EVENTS OVER THREE DAYS. VEHICLE IS AT DEALER A SECOND TIME, BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT I WILL BE TOLD. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS EARLY AS FEBRUARY 2016 AND IS STILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGING IT.

I PURCHASED MY 2017 HONDA PILOT BRAND NEW EARLIER THIS SPRING. NEVER HAD TO USE THE HEAT UNTIL FALL CAME AROUND AND I NOTICED THE FRONT DASH HEATS DO NOT WORK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN IDLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION AND IT WAS DETERMINED THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM AMERICAN HONDA. I'VE BEEN PLAYING PHONE TAG WITH HONDA SINCE AND FINALLY GOT TO SPEAK WITH JAMES (1-800-999-1009 EXT 117753), TODAY FROM AMERICAN HONDA. HE DID NOT ASSURE ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS BEING LOOKED INTO OR THAT THEY WERE WORKING ON SOMETHING TO CORRECT IT. INSTEAD, TOLD ME REPEATEDLY THAT THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE AND IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. HE STATES HE'S SPOKEN WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO HAS CONFIRMED THAT MY HEATERS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, BUT AGAIN CONTINUED TO TELL ME THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH MY CAR. OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS A FAULT IN THE DESIGN, AND HE REFUSED TO ADMIT THAT OR OFFER A ADEQUATE RESOLUTION. WHEN I ASKED TO BE ESCALATED HE OFFERED TO CONNECT ME WITH WITH ANOTHER REPRESENTATIVE TO REVIEW MY CASE. I ASSURED HIM I DID NOT WISH TO SPEAK WITH ANOTHER REPRESENTATIVE AND REQUESTED A MANGER AT WHICH POINT HE TOLD ME HE WAS A MANAGER. A MANGER OFFERING TO CONNECT ME TO A REPRESENTATIVE? WHERE'S THE LOGIC IN THAT OR ANY OF THIS? HONDA DOES NOT DESERVE ANYONE'S BUSINESS IF THEY AREN'T WILLING TO MAKE AN EFFORT TO FIND A RESOLUTION.
ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS, I ACCIDENTALLY PUSHED THE ENGINE START BUTTON WHILE MY CAR WAS IN MOTION. ON ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS I WAS TRYING TO HIT MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS BUT INSTEAD, PUSHED THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON. IN DOING SO THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE I WAS IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC. IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC, IT TOOK ME SEVERAL SECONDS TO GET THE CAR RESTARTED. THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY SCARY. ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH MY NEW PILOT IS THE ENGINE IDLE FEATURE. THIS IS THE FEATURE THAT WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKES, ALLOWS THE CAR TO TURN OFF/REMAIN IDLE TO SAVE GAS. MY INCIDENT WITH THIS FEATURE WAS WHEN I SLOWED DOWN TO TURN THE CORNER, THE IDLE ENGINE FEATURE KICKED IN(I GUESS BECAUSE I HAD SLOWED DOWN TOO MUCH), AND THE CAR WENT INTO THE ENGINE IDLE MODE. THIS AGAIN WAS SCARY AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN FROM A VERY BUSY, OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR HIGHWAY.
