2019 HONDA PILOT Forward Collision Avoidance Problems

Received five warning lights at idle. Adaptive cruise control problem, Lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, auto high beam problem. None of these safety features work in my vehicle. I have taken this to the dealership to troubleshoot the issue and they confirm that the issue is there and said that it was the multi-purpose camera on the rear view mirror. This will end up costing around $2,000 to repair. Without these safety systems, my family Is obviously not as safe... As a consumer we pay extra for all the engineering and the physical components to have these safety features. Otherwise, I could have saved $20,000 and bought a 2000s model suburban that doesn't have these safety features.

After only 76K miles the ADAS stopped working. Honda Sense safety features no longer work. Honda dealership diagnosed the problem and said the ADAS camera needed to be replaced. The car is in excellent condition. It was never in an accident, windshield in perfect condition. Up to date with its scheduled maintenance.

So my front sensing camera failed after 125,000 miles , Honda sensing features disabled and dealer in Elk Grove, CA zip code 95624 quoted me 2,215 plus tax and that includes diagnostics. My car "lurches" when increasing speed sometimes acting like it does not want to go at all. I am constantly on edge that I am going to get rear ended or hit. Especially when my children are with me. Occasionally the brake light will light up and my car will slow down and then accelerate again. Which also makes me worry about getting hit. The multi function camera is causing multiple system failures within the safety systems associated with the camera as well as additional issues with transmission. This vehicle continues to have issues related to a problem that was issued for the fuel pump earlier this year. My fuel pump was replaced, but the vehicle continues to do the same thing. It stalls and jerks while I am driving and does not start sometimes after getting gas. When I am trying to accelerate the vehicle does not go at full power. One time I was going out into traffic and had to reverse because I knew that I would not make it and get hit. In addition to this, the vehicle has an issue with the braking system. Other years have been recalled for what they call ghost breaking, and although this one does this, it has not been recalled. I will be driving and the car will all of a sudden just brake on its own as if there is a vehicle/object in front of me. Sometimes this happens in the same location. Honda is supposed to be a reliable car, but it seems they have failed with this year/model of the Pilot because it has been big issue after big issue.

Upon direct inquiry, the dealership confirmed that the discount was offered solely through my business account and my relationship with them and had no connection to American Honda. When I requested written confirmation of this claim, American Honda refused to provide any documentation, despite the fact that all conversations were recorded by them. These recordings contain critical evidence of misrepresentation and should be reviewed as part of this dispute. If necessary, I am prepared to request that these recordings be subpoenaed for formal review. My 2019 Honda Pilot has 47817 miles on it. Purchased new from dealership. Been garaged entire life other than normal routine driving. Recently had ADAS warning lights. Reported the problem to Honda HQ in Torrance California. They issued a claim number. I took it to Honda dealer where it was diagnosed with error code U3000-49. They quoted me approx $2600 to replace and calibrate the new multi purpose camera. When reviewing the internet for others with similar problem I noticed this was a safety issue that was far too common among relatively new Honda vehicles. I received a discount from Honda and had the service. The discount was only given when I complained about this issue as well as my 2013 Honda pilot I purchased brand new which the clear coat paint started to come off the roof and hond of the vehicle about a month after I purchased my 2019 honda. When reporting the problem with the 2013 pilot losing the clear coat back in 2019 Honda told me it was too late for them to do anything. Honda should have recalled vehicles with peeling clear coat as well as the defective ADAS system.

After starting my vehicle and leaving the office, several different warning messages began flashing on the dash ABS, lane departure mitigation, Power Sterring, Towing. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. When I attempted to restart the vehicle, the brake pedal was hard and felt stuck. The car did not start. When roadside assistance came, they tested the battery, and it was fine. The car was towed to a Honda dealer and the technician informed me the Brake Pedal Position Switch failed. He said that it would have caused all the different warning messages to appear. This was the second time this occurred, where the different warning messages lit up, but that time the car restarted. When I took it to the dealer that time, they could not determine the issue, and no repairs were done. I am concerned because I have seen that these vehicles have issues with this and it is very dangerous and unsafe when it comes to issues with the brakes.

2019 honda pilot exL all of sudden multipurpose camera doesn't work. As a result of the camera issue break system sign came on and all safety feature turn off. I didn't have any accident prior to the sign came on. Dealer is asking 1800+tax to replace the camera.

dash instuments goes blacked out , entertainment system goes black in sequence to dash, this has happened multiple times . I cannot tell my speed, gas levels, etc, the LKAS, collision warning, adaptive cruise control , auto emergncy breaking ,lane departure warning failed with lights coming on with various failure warinings, it fails ,then works randomly then fails again. I have taken my vehichle in starting in 2022 for the dash instruments and entertainment going out .The transmission has rough shifting multiple times, i have brought for diagnostic service 4 times on transmission, they cannot find the causes. I have had transmissions serviced and flushed as required.

I got in my vehicle about a month ago to a lot of blinking lights. I immediately took my vehicle to Davenport Honda in Rocky Mount, NC, who stated I had a misfire and it would be over $1000 to fix the problem. Approximately a month later, a few more blinking lights came on. It was the lane departure, automatic high beam and collision lights. I took my vehicle back to the dealership that stated it is an internal failure and now the entire camera will need to be replace quoting me another $1000 job. I currently have a crack in my windshield and cannot get it replace due to this internal failure. I have read several comments about this internal failure leading to believe me this should be a recall. I don't have $4000 to $5000 to put into a vehicle every 2 to 3 months.

Just started, while driving in high winds: electrical power steering problem, vehicle stability assist problem, hill start assist problem, trailer stability assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, emissions system problem. Brake system warning light is also on. I don’t have a towing system installed- so that’s odd to get a warning for trailer stability. I had an oil change @ 101076 miles, on 19 November 2024, and my tires were rotated at that time. This issue repeated itself today, 21 November 2024.

3 episodes of unexpected and sudden braking for no reason. Twice on Sept 13 when ACC was in use and set at 70 mph the car hard-braked and dropped to 40-42mph rapidly, then it stopped braking and I was able to use the accelerator again- the braking lasted perhaps 10-15 seconds. The third episode was on Oct. 13 and the ACC was not on. I was driving manually at 55 mph and again the car suddenly braked and dropped to the same 40-42 range- maybe 5-10 seconds before the accelerator started to work again. There was no reason for the barking, no warning notices on the dashboard. Thank goodness there was no-one close behind me on any of these occasions, because the drop in speed was fast and hard.

When we are driving the vehicle brake light lights up on dash and car breaks for a second or two. There are no cars around and no railroad tracks. It just does it a random times. We aren’t speeding. Just driving down road.

THE ACC AND LKAS DO NOT WORK ON MY 2019 HONDA PILOT. THE DEALER IS SAYING THAT IT IS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CAMERA. THIS PUT ME AND OTHERS AT RISK BECAUSE THE CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T WORK, THE LANE ASSIST DOSEN'T WORK, THE AUTO BRAKING DOESN'T WORK. THESE CONTROLS ARE MEANT TO HELP CURB DRIVER FATIGUE, AND TO BASICALLY KEEP YOUR CAR IN THE PROPER LANE AND A SAFE DISTANCE FROM OTHER CARS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND CAN BE FIXED BY THE DEALER BY REPLACING THE CAMERA TO THE TUNE OF $1900.00. WHEN YOU START THE CAR YOU WILL GET SEVERAL WARNING MESSAGES ABOUT THE ACC, BRAKING SYSTEM AND LKAS NOT WORKING. A RECALL SHOULD BE PUT IN PLACE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OF THE HONDA MODELS.

Honda radar or multi purpose camera failed. Is available for inspection. Turns off extra safety features such as acc, lkas, lane departure system and cbms. Makes it more dangerous without said system. Unknown. Unknown. There were quite a bit of warning lamps, cbms problem, lkas problem, acc problem, auto high beam problem and more. They first appeared April 2024.

All electrical systems failed at once due to a malfunction in the front camera-sudden failure with no damage to the vehicle physically. Honda refuses to fix or honor the issue. A recall should be required due to the vast amounts of complaints on the same issues. This should not be a financial responsibility on the owner.

While driving on very straight and non-rolling hills the large red words BRAKE will appear on the dash, the brakes will start pulsing and slightly shaking for a few seconds when there is very minimal on-coming traffic. The above has happened several times and first occurred several years ago and at different mileages and different roads

Automatic braking system failure parallel issue that is same to the accord and other models with the emergency braking system which randomly activated and panic stops and sometimes without an traffic near to car and other times have almost caused catastrophic collisions on highway systems with divided medians causing system to activate.

The Honda Sense camera failed due to an internal fault just outside the manufacturer's warranty. Dealership was needed to replace it in order to regain function at out of pocket cost. Upon the camera failing the driver is met with 5 warning lights that the following are no longer active: LKAS, ACC, Automatic Braking\Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Headlights, and Lane Mitigation System. You have to clear each of these before you can use the main dash (including MPH). Cruise control is completely disabled. Although there is no asserted timeline for the life of the camera, research shows (and dealership sates) that this is a known issue. This morning 01/30/2024, I was travelling in the right lane of two on the highway. The vehicle slowed rapidly just about to a stop. I barely had time to pull to the right shoulder. I narrowly was struck from a vehicle travelling behind. This was from one of the safety mechanisms in the Pilot SUV I think the lane departure sensor. This was very scary. I feel this is a huge safety concern and need to report it. If I didn't have a shoulder what the heck would have happened to me. I probably would have been struck from behind and who knows possibly injured or worse. The shoulder was approximately 8 ft wide thankfully. Later that morning it did the same thing but this time many error messages appeared. Thankfully this time there was nobody behind me and was able to pull to the right shoulder again. The error messages are as follows 1) Adaptive Cruise Control Problem 2) Brake System Problem 3) Power Steering System Problem 4) Vehicle Stability Assist Problem 5) Hill Start Assist Problem 6) Trail Stability Assist Problem 7) Collision Mitigation System Problem 8) Road Departure Mitigation System Problem. The vehicle error lights were still there on the dash. I put the vehicle in gear and started my way home. Again, the engine lost power and would not shift properly. About 15 minutes later the vehicle drove normal. The error messages were still there. I parked my car at my house and the rear lights were still illuminated. I had to disconnect the battery so the battery would not be drained and/or ruined. I feel like this is a severe safety issue.

Was driving normal and the windshield camera radar fail, and a lot of warning lights come on, take to a dealer and told me that some internal part of the camera fail, and need to be replace, they estimate for that is $1600, now I’m driving with out automatic brake, no cruise control, no line keeping assistant, 2019 Honda Pilot Ex-L, I think is a common problem and need to recall this,. Transmission fluid is burning up within 15,000 miles or less. When the flood is going bad the vehicle studders as you accelerate and it's not safe. Ive seen a lot of people online with the same issue. Contacted Honda of America and they also know about the issue and are not doing anything to help.

When driving the vehicle, none of these safety features are working. Took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the Multi Purpose Camera had an internal failure and it was likely due to heat exposure. The vehicle only has 32,000 miles on it and it was not at any unusual heat exposure. The past 3 summers the temperature has been the same and no problems. This appears to be a Manufacturer Defect on this camera but dealer won't accept that. The same day I took my car to the dealer, on 7.12.23 for the check up, I was told 4 other customers came in with the same problem. That is Not Normal. I live in Southern California and the temperatures have been in the 90's for the past 2 weeks. I googled this and found many other Honda Owners have had the same problem and Honda is wanting to charge us about $1800-$2,000 to get this camera fixed but again, this must be a Manufacturer's Defect. Rear ended the vehicle in front. Vehicle in front had emergency braking activate, our pilot did not activate emergency braking. It does often go off on 2 lane highways when a large vehicle is coming the other way or when trying to take a freeway exit, but apparently not when you're about to hit someone.

Car is at 56K mileage. I was at a stop light engine was running, when I took my foot off the brake and tried to accelerate the engine died, the dashboard flashed a collision warning, (there were no cars or animals near my car), then all the screens dashboard behind steering wheel and on middle console all went blank. I restarted the car and made it home fine. Drove the car the next day for several stops (street and highway driving), then the same thing happened at a stop light and it restarted and I made it home fine. The third day there were no problems while driving 30+ miles streets and highway. The fourth day, drove about 15 miles to work and all was fine. Drove about 13 miles street and highway just fine. Ran an errand and car would not restart. Pressing the engine start button resulting in clicking but not engine start, headlight flashing, and the dashboard behind steering flashing various warning messages (cycled through several as I held the start button down, collision, braking system failure, power steering, etc.) but never started. Let it rest for ~3 hours and still would not start, same result with clicking and flashing headlights and warning messages.

ACC While driving on I-15 a warning appeared on the Control Panel “Warning the ACC has malfunctioned” Within the last 90 days this occurred 6 times. Now the ACC has stopped working.

AEB/FCW. On January 24, 2023 while traveling on I-15 the Control Panel flashed “Warning” and the brakes were applied. There was no vehicle in my lane. There were other vehicles in adjacent lanes. This occurred additionally on the following dates. 1/22/23 (2x). 1/17/23, 1/12/23(3x) and 12/20/22.

On the highway traveling at ~60mph traveling straight away and the brakes slammed on without reason and almost caused a major accident. There was no vehicle in close proximity and no imminent collision that should have caused the vehicle to slam on the brakes. The random slamming of the brakes almost caused a rear end collision with our vehicle and the car behind us. Similar situation but driving around town at lower speed around 30 mph but same behavior. The car slammed again on brakes where there was not imminent collision that should have caused the vehicle to take evasive action or slam on the brakes.

This is a 2019 Honda Pilot with start stop function. There is a noticeable delay in activation and getting longer with time; this is a 3 year old vehicle. During 2 other instances, the system failed and vehicle would not start on a public street. During these failures and delays, other than the obvious collision safety issue, the safety systems are unavailable via a message on the dash. When it eventually starts back up it functions normally. This is clearly the system prematurely failing or the system prematurely killing the battery (which has a normal functional life of 5 - 7 years).

Our 2019 Honda Pilot will flash the brake for the front collision warning system when there is no oncoming traffic or even when the oncoming traffic is in its lane. It does not always happen, but enough to be an annoyance. It also tends, when stopped at a light, and the auto stop engages not to restart. The entire electrical system goes haywire and then dies. This includes the ability to use your 4way or emergency flashers. The car then has to be jumped or towed to restart the vehicle.

The car is equipped with a stop-start system that is supposed to shut off the engine when you stop (eg at a red light) and restart almost instantly when you lift the foot off the brake. The restart feature fails somewhat regularly, maybe about 5% of the time. It has happened for many years, and with increasing frequency as the car is getting older. Sometimes the restart has trouble, the car misfires a moment, but then the engine restarts, sometimes a bunch of unrelated warnings sound when this happens, the car reporting that the collision avoidance systems are now offline or similar. Sometimes the engine completely stalls and does not come back online at all; when this happens, getting it restarted generally means putting it in park, turning the car completely off, then starting it again, a process that takes 10-15 seconds. When this happens at an isolated stop sign it is annoying; it has also happened on a highway exit ramp with traffic going around our disabled vehicle. Various Honda dealers have inspected and maintained the vehicle, and none have detected anything wrong to explain this behavior. The problem is intermittent and thus hard to reproduce on demand.

The engine start/stop idle does not start up again after the car stops when at a red light or in traffic.

When the idle stop system is engaged and the brake is depressed to activate the vehicle engine to shut off (at a red light for example), sometimes when lifting your foot off the gas the vehicle does not restart as it is designed to. This leaves the driver stranded at a green light panicking to find a way to get the car started and other vehicles stuck behind the stalled car stopping the normal flow of traffic and causing a potential accident.

Several times since 2019 while driving on not straight roads(slight curves either left or right), the Automatic Emergency Braking would activate, First I would get a big bold BRAKE in Red letters on the Display. I would be looking around, no cars are coming, I'm in the correct lane, not speeding and sometimes the car would actually start applying the brake(s) when there is absolutely no reason to apply the brakes. This has happened several times while we have driven the vehicle either on a 5 to 6 hour trip and maybe has occurred a total of 5 times since we have owned the vehicle

I currently have a 2019 Honda, Pilot with approximately 70,000 miles. I have had problems with the idle stop feature since the first year of owning the vehicle. I have had many instances of a restart resulting in actuating the warning lights on my instrument panel and a few times when my vehicle did not restart. My dealer either was not able to diagnose the problem or did not know how. I even paid to have my battery replaced, which helped elevate the problem but did not fix it.I also either have a problem with the automatic braking system giving me a warning or in some instances actually applying the brakes when there is no traffic.Both of these are reoccurring and on-going problems.

If cruise control on & need to respond to car that just pulled in front of me on highway, because the brake pedal is already suppressed by the car I can not respond properly. The only thing I have found to override the car is to push the gas pedal, which is also very dangerous!! Please help!! This is so dangerous. If something is actually happening on the road it is difficult to think about how to respond because the car is freaking out. The ability to think clearly & respond to unsafe situations is so important in those first few seconds. Honda mechanic said this is ‘just a side effect’ of a self driving car feature (cruise control) until Honda improves technology. There is no way to turn off Collision Mitigation Breaking System permanently

I have had the assisted emergency braking deploy itself with the Brake light blinking on the dash board when there is no reason for it to engage. No traffic around, just a sudden braking which pushes you forward in your seat and quickly scan all around you for impact which is not going to occur. I have heard of this happening to others but this has happened to me about 6 times and my husband has had it twice.

On several occasions the car has flashed BRAKE and then started braking when there has been no car in front of me.

Driving and the automatic braking engage with no vehicles around

While entering the express lane on I-595 E my Honda 2019 Pilot unexpectedly reduced speed applying the brakes. There were no cars in front or behind me and the yet the emergency braking system was applied. This could have caused a rear end collision. In speaking with a local Honda service dealer he had said that this had also happened to him twice. My incident occurred approx. 1 year ago. I've also read that this issue has been identified in Honda CR-V's and Accords.

When driving my Honda Pilot the Automatic Emergency Braking system has engaged multiple times (3-4 times with me, and once with my husband driving) in the middle of driving with there was no reason for the braking to occur - Meaning there were times when no cars were even in front of me. When this happens the orange BRAKE warning shows up on my dashboard advising "BRAKE" and my car jolts forward to strongly break. There has not been a recall on this issue, therefore, there has not inspection on my car specific to this issue. When this occurs it causes extreme panic on unawareness of what is going on. There is a threat of a crash behind me, especially when driving on roads 55 MPH, when the car all of a sudden out of nowhere comes to almost a complete stop. Also, it extremely distracts me due to the suddenness of this issue without any perceived warning. Therefore, I quickly try to understand if I do need to swerve or figure out how to quickly speed up after it brakes so no cars hit me from behind. Then it takes me awhile to calm down and understand what happened.

I drove our Honda Pilot during a moderate snow storm. The collision avoidance system repeatedly recognized the snow as a vehicle and repeatedly applied the brakes at highway speed in heavy traffic. It happened from Davenport, IA to Des Moines, IA on 14 Jan 22. It also repeatedly tried to steer because the lane keeper assist kept malfunctioning. On Sunday 16 Jan 22 we returned from Des Moines to Davenport and it repeatedly happened again. On Sunday the roads were clear and there wasn't any precipitation in the air. I washed the windshield and wiped off the sensor panel but it didn't stop. The Honda dealer in Moline, IL told me that there was nothing they could do. They said that happens in snow and rain and that I should wash the vehicle. The vehicle is malfunctioning and dangerous. It randomly applies the brakes and tries to steer itself at highway speed if there is any obstruction to the sensors. I had to fight the steering wheel to keep it on the road when driving down the middle of the lane. Having the car applying the brakes randomly at highway speed is also incredibly dangerous. I can't control how close semi trucks follow and several almost rear ended me. They also got very upset because they thought I was doing it on purpose. I can't wash the vehicle every time it snows or pull over every time it rains hard. The dealers suggestions are not practical. The malfunctioning lane keeper assist and automatic breaking on this vehicle is an accident waiting to happen. Or it's already happened and isn't getting the credit it deserves. The lane keeper assist and automatic breaking also can't be turned off, and shouldn't have to be.

When driving on the interstate, car automatically applied breaks at 70+ MPH bringing speed down to 55 or less as it sensed a car in the right lane. However, there was clear lanes and no potential impact for a crash. The breaking almost resulted in me getting rear ended. Also, there have been numerous instances where the car has had sensors go off for collision warnings when I am driving in the city and there is no car in sight or I am turning left at a stoplight. This is not safe and needs to be addressed.

THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS AND BACK-UP CAMERA DOESN'T WORK. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM CONCERNING THE SAFETY FEATURES DOESN'T WORK WHEN THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR CAR TO HAVE THE ISSUE REPAIRED MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT NOTHING THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE HAS PROVIDED A PERMANENT FIX. THIS HAPPENS SPORADICALLY WHETHER THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOVEMENT. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY 2019.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 HONDA PILOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE SENSOR ACTIVATED AND SOUNDED A WARNING BEEPING. ERRONEOUSLY, WHICH SIGNALED THE CONTACT TO BRAKE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE SENOR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT NOTIFIFED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. *BF DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. THE SALES REP TOLD ME THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THIS ISSUE TOO AND THAT THERE WILL PROBABLY BE AN UPDATE TO THE CAR'S SOFTWARE AT SOME PAINT IN THE FUTURE. *JB
