My car has always had slight issue getting consistent fuel pressure causing the engine to rev abnormally when giving gas during acceleration. On 11/25, my car failed to start due to the fuel pressure being too low. I brought my car into two mechanics including a Honda certified dealership to inspect an issue with my fuel pump. I was informed that other Honda Pilots of the same year as mine have a recall on their fuel pump, but my VIN was not included. Both mechanics indicated that this is the exact issue that the other Pilots under the recall have and they were not sure why mine was not included. It is pulling the same codes, too, when it went under diagnostic testing as issue with the lower fuel pump.

The auto shut off has been not working properly and the vehicle wont restart after it shuts off. My wife was at a traffic light, and the vehicle shut off. When the light turned green, it did not restart. As a result of this she about got taken out by a semi that was coming in behind her. This could have been a deadly accident as it is raining and wet. She was stuck at the light on a busy highway for 3 minutes before the vehicle would restart.

My car was fine. I was driving fine and then I pulled out of my neighborhood and all of a sudden my check engine light started blinking and my car was hesitating and jumping. I pulled over for 10 minutes with the car turned off and then it was fine. It did something similar once before a week prior but I thought it was a one time thing. There are recalls for fuel injectors on the year prior honda pilots. And the mechanic shop said that’s what they would replace when they looked at it.

My issue is with existing recalls of the following: 23V-431 & 23V-858 in that replacement parts are NOT readily available according to multiple phone calls to a local dealership. The dealership responded by placing one on a waiting call list. I’ve owned this Honda Pilot over a year and have FIVE such notifications from Honda America. It is like they prefer I sell it or wreck it to get from under all these notices. Does NHTSA have legal authority to fine or demand Honda America conform to build replacement parts in straight forward i.e., as soon as possible. The vehicle surges up and back when climbing hills or attempting to pass. It is very disconcerting at the least or dangerous at worst. I will appreciate any help NHTSA can provide to get more fuel pumps with proper impellers out quickly.

Vehicle struggles and jerks to keep speed between 1st and 2nd and 3rd gears and jerks trying to accelerate up until around 50 mph check engine light came on and off a few times and information center on car reports exhaust system problem and to take to a dealer, took to autozone to get codes read replaced part it said to replace but problem persisted light came back on took back to autozone same code showing different bay so I took vehicle to Honda dealer and had them do a diagnostic on it which they could not complete without me paying an extra 180.00 for a more in depth diagnostic I paid and they found the fuel injectors not functioning properly and said I need to replace them I declined Honda to do this and took it to a different shop myself to have it done where I trusted the mechanic had all the injectors replaced and same problem is still happening. The breaking assist comes on randomly while driving and hits breaks and shakes steering wheel while flashing (break) but there is nothing in front of me.

2020 Honda Pilot with 80000 miles. A car i loved and had for over a year. I was driving from Florida to Texas. Everything was fine when I started. About 600 miles down I was at 70 mph and had to go little faster to overtake a truck because the shoulder was too small and my lane is about merge in to truck lane. There were at-least 10 vehicles behind me. I hit the accelerator pedal all the way until it touched frame but the engine is not at all responding and slowly losing power. The lane I was in was about to merge in to truck lane. I had to hit brakes with vehicles behind me but some how i managed to not get hit by them. It could have gone worse.

When driving down our street approximately 2 months ago, an error came up for an Emissions System Problem. Over the course of the next week, the car started showing several other error messages, and while driving the transmission felt jittery or like it would stutter while in 1st and 2nd gear. We brought the car to our local Honda dealership to have a recall fixed, and asked them about the issues while they had the car. They advised it was an issue with the fuel injectors but there was no recall for the 2020 Honda Pilot as of yet. I brought the car to an independent service center and they advised the same thing after running the codes and inspecting the vehicle. The vehicle is scheduled for the fuel injectors to be replaced later this week at the independent service center.

In a December 2023 I learned of a recall NHTSA Recall Number23V-858 for my vehicle. The recall states that the fuel pump could stop functioning, thus putting my car at a safety risk for crashing. Honda states that we will have to wait for the parts so this can be repaired. It is now a August 2024 and Honda still does not have the parts to repair this serious safety issue. 8 months later! I use my car daily and am very concerned about the possibility of a serious safety incident caused by Honda’s lack of appropriate replacement parts. This not only puts my life at risk, but others who are driving near me if I crash because of this defective part.

High pressure fuel pump stopped working. Vehicle acceleration was impeded. No warning lights/messages.

This is regarding a fuel pump safety recall for 2020 Honda Pilot. We have been receiving notifications of this recall for about 5 months. Each time I try to schedule the repair with my local Honda dealer I'm told that they do not have the parts in. Last week (05/16/24) I was told they will not have them until fall of 2024. Meanwhile, our Pilot has stalled in traffic several times presenting a safety risk to us and others. Today I called Honda Customer Service (888-234-2138) and was told that to expedite service I would need to have the part inspected and IF they determine that it is due to the fuel pump problem they will expedite receipt of the part and repair, but IF they determine that it is something else I will have to pay for the diagnostic fee. I find this unacceptable and I find the delay in repairing effected vehicles unacceptable. Honda has a legal obligation to protect the safety of it's customers in a timely manner. They have not done so. And, my vehicle's problem is clearly exactly as described in the recall notice, so why should there be any possibility that I would have to pay a diagnosis fee when the part is inspected? Meanwhile I will schedule the inspection as required, but Honda's handling of this recall is unacceptable. Please let me know what, if any action, I should take and what if any you will take. Thank you.

VIN: [XXX] Year: 2020 Make: Honda Model: Pilot Number of Open Recalls: 1 NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-858 Recall Date: December 18, 2023 Manufacturer Recall Number: XGL The recall of the Honda Pilot fuel pump impeller is still not remedied. It is almost six months and I do not want that some accident will happen before Honda will remedy this recall. I have asked them more than three times already but they said that they are giving priority to those vehicles showing symptoms of the problem. Again, I do not want to see symptoms, more so accidents to happen before they fixed this problem. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I received a letter advising there is a recall on my 2020 Honda pilot for the fuel pump. Based off the information it can be dangerous if not fixed. Called the dealership and they stated would not get part in until winter of 2024. But would fix it if there was an issue. The rep advised to call American Honda and provided the number and they advised to call dealership. I drive my car everyday with my children. I need my recall fixed now. Not in the winter.

We received a recall notification in December 2023 for fuel the pump on this vehicle. Now we’re being told that a replacement may not be available until fall which means it could be a year since the notice until the repair. With the possibility of an instant failure (as the notice said was possible) how is this vehicle safe to drive at freeway speed in let’s say WV with the power brakes, steering, etc. out of commission? Suppose it breaks down in Elko, NV? There’s no dealer for 200 miles. These repairs need to be made immediately or Honda needs to buy the vehicle back. The issue is beyond a possible inconvenience it’s dangerous.

I had no prior warning that anything was wrong with my Pilot. I tried to start my vehicle and it would not stay running. We first replaced the battery and it still wouldn't run. We had the vehicle towed to the repair shop. We were told the fuel pump was bad and we had it replaced. Vehicle runs perfectly now. I know there is a recall on many Honda vehicles but my VIN number was not part of the fuel pump recall. I believe that it should have been part of the recall and that Honda should pay for the repair and towing.

Feb 13, 2024

We received written notice from Honda of NHTSA Recall Number 23V-858 of the Safety Recall for fuel pump failure and possible stalling and loss of power. The notice states that there is an increased risk of crash or injury, but they say they will be unable to perform repairs until the fall of 2024. When calling the local dealership they confirmed that they do not have any of the replacement parts to conduct the Recall repairs. It is wildly unacceptable that Honda will not begin repairs for at least another seven months given the vehicle can lose power and stall while driving. Vehicle owners should not be expected to pay for safety recall repairs up front in order to have a safe vehicle for their family.

Feb 6, 2024

Honda announced this recall in December it keeps showing up on my HondaLink app. Yet here we are in February nearly 2 months after the recall & they still do not have a fix. How many people are driving their recalled vehicles? Sorry but all Honda is doing is trying to limit their liability by telling owners there is a problem & not offering a solution. They need to be forced to get these vehicles fixed.

When auto start/stop feature engages at times vehicle does not restart and will not restart. This has happened 5-6 times in heavy traffic leaving the car dead in the middle of the road until we repeatedly try to reset and restart.

Aug 23, 2023

There have been a total of 11 (since 2020) incidents when I applied the brakes they did not engage fully and the SUV surged forward 2 feet and the engine was still trying to go forward even with brake pedal to the floor. I have had it looked at the dealership but they say nothing is wrong. They said the battery was not talking to the brakes and I got a new battery but the brakes are still not dependable. When I apply the brakes they still surge forward 1 - 2 feet the engine revs up trying to go forward. The music CD player works sometimes but not all the time. The brakes do not work all the time. The electrical system did not work - it wouldn't show the dash board. The dealership said they fixed it. Both side mirrors never stays where they are set.

The Honda Auto Start Stop system has been taxing my battery through daily use and creates unsafe situations. On more than one occasion, similar to the following, I have experienced the Honda Pilot stop the engine via the A.S.S. System. Upon releasing the brake, the system attempts, but fails, to come to ignition and the electrical system lacks the ability to start the engine, creating a need to re-start (or attempt restart). On 1 such occasion, my family was traveling through a city on the interstate. After driving on the interstate for a few hours we came to a stop light and stopped. At the green light, upon releasing the brake, the Honda Pilot attempted to start again and failed. The car went completely dead in the middle of a 4 lane interstate with my family inside. The car did not start again until the 3rd time attempting to restart the vehicle. Approximately 10 seconds later than intended, we were able to clear our vehicle from the interstate intersection. On normal occasions, such as the course of business with the Honda A.S.S. System, driving in situations that would be categorized as "start/Stop" situations, the Honda A.S.S. System leads to stalled response and delayed lurching into traffic creating situations due to the delay in response. Multiple times this has been reported to my dealer. They acknowledge it as a "Battery" problem. They test my battery per HONDA WARRANTY and tell me it "Passes". They basically are just charging my battery and sending me out the door. The time between vehicle events is decreasing. Please help address this obvious vehicle shortcoming. There is no permanent means to disable it. Thank you.

I have owned the 2020 Honda Pilot Touring since Jan.2021. Up till now, theses similar situations have happened 4-5 times. It always happens when I am gradually slowing down to a complete stop at crossroads. My 2020 Honda Pilot has shut off a few times while stopping at a red light. Each time has been after coming to a complete stop at a red light and sitting there for a couple minutes. Suddenly there is a beep sound and the engine shuts down. Only the entertainment system is left on. The gear changes to N by itself and I am unable to change it to any other gear. With my foot on the brake, trying to change the gear and trying turn off the car for about 3 minute in the middle of traffic with my kids in the car, eventually I was able to shut off the engine completely off. I immediately try restart the car to avoid a car accident. It put itself in N (neural) and the dashboard screen said “Put it in P (Park) and hit bottom to restart car.” The car wouldn’t let me push anything. The power button did nothing and even if you pushed the P for park it stayed in N. The battery light immediately came on when this happened also. And went away as soon as it worked again. I scheduled an appointment after the third time the this happen leaving the car for them to run tests. They ran the tests and when I returned to pick it up, the technician said they tested the battery, wiring, and engine and that everything was good. Nothing was provided to me but they did show me the report as they talked about the results I am sure I can obtain if requested. They almost changed me for the testing but waived the fee which I was thankful. I am concerned and at times scared for the safety of my kids and I. I really hope Honda finds a fix for this and recalls for whatever the issues are as quickly as possible. I like the car but it really is making me want to get a new car and never purchase from Honda again.

My Pilot has approximately 25,000 miles. I was stopped at a red light, my vehicle has the ignition shut off feature, which engaged while I was stopped. When the light changed and I went to accelerate, instead of the engine restarting, the entire car stalled and would not restart. There were a variety of flashing lights and the car appeared to have power but the engine would not turn over. I immediately turned my hazard lights on, but each time I tried to restart the car, the hazards would turn off which was particularly concerning. The police responded and we looked for options to get the car into neutral so we could move it out of the intersection but there appears to be no option for a layman to manually override the transmission and place the car in neutral. As a result I was stranded in my vehicle for nearly 3 hours in an intersection while I waited for a tow truck. There had been no prior indication of any issues with the vehicle. It was purchased used and I have only put approximately 2,000 miles on it since purchasing. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and is awaiting inspection. While my experience was terrible, I am terrified to think of how much worse this could have been if I had stalled in traffic on a highway or with my children in the car.

Over the last few years, after a long highway drive of approx. 20 miles when I stop and sit and idle, a strong gasoline smell is entering the vehicle via the HVAC Heating system. Also, after the same longer drives, when I return home, turn off and park the suv in my garage, shortly after my garage smells of gasoline as well from the Front Passenger side of the suv nearest the hood cowl. It does not happen 100% of the time but this winter it has occurred more frequently (a few times a week) during our Mon-Fri commutes.

CAR WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. INITIALLY THE ENGINE RACED BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE CAR SLOWLY BEGAN TO MOVE AND THEN FULLY 'ENGAGED' AND MOVED FORWARD.

I'M WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT OCCURRED WITH OUR 2020 HONDA PILOT TOURING EDITION. MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND IN FACT LOST POWER. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE AN EXIT RAMP CLOSE AND WE COASTED OFF ON THE EXIT RAMP LIMITED TO 5 MPH. ALL ELECTRONICS WERE ON (RADIO AND DVD), BUT THE CAR FORCED US TO A STOP. WE CALLED THE HONDA SERVICE LINE BECAUSE THIS CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY INFORMED US NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AT THIS TIME WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. WE SAT IN THE CAR WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND PULLED OVER FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. THEY RECOMMENDED TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTES, LIKE MANUAL SAID, AND THEN RESTART THE CAR TO SEE IF WE CAN DRIVE TO SAFETY. WE DID THIS AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE TO A SAFE LOCATION. 100+ MILES AWAY FROM OUR HOME, WE TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER. THEY DID AN INSPECTION OF THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO READ THE SYSTEM TO FIND OUT WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY WROTE UP A DETAILED REPORT AND SAID THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ON LONG ENOUGH TO GET A READ/REPORT, BUT EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKED OK. THEY DID WRITE IN THEIR REPORT THAT THERE IS A KNOWN BULLETIN FOR A FUEL INJECTION PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY RECOMMENDED IT, BUT THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD NEED TO BE ON LONGER TO JUSTIFY RECALL. AND LASTLY, I WANT YOU TO BE AWARE THAT THIS CAR, SINCE PURCHASING NEW, HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OR NOT CORRECTLY WORKING FOR 4+ MONTH OF THE YEAR WE HAVE OWNED IT. THE DVD PLAYER, INFORMATION ELECTRONIC SCREEN SYSTEM BROKE AND NEEDED REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAD LOUD CRACKING AND POPPING NOISE AND IT REQUIRED A CABLE WITH PROPER SHIELDING TO BE REPLACED.
