All the warning lights came on. I took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. They told me that the problem was the fuel injectors. The vehicle only has 40,000 miles. They said there was a factory problem with the programming in the ECU and they are aware of the problem. They have issued an extended warranty for this. They now refuse to honor the warranty because my title is a salvage title. A salvage title has nothing to do with their faulty programming. They now want to charge me $1,300.00 to have them fix it. The vehicle is at the dealer now waiting for a remedy 12/5/2025. I think this could be dangerous if it is not repaired. The engine could stall or fail while on the road.

Honda has issues with the fuel injectors for this year vehicle. Instead of performing a recall, they pushed it off by extending the warranty. If the injectors fail, the car becomes inoperable and could result in accident. Honda needs to fix this issue now and not just issue a warranty extension

My vehicle has less than 95k miles on it. Purchased it brand new from the dealer in 2016. It was one of the first few Ridgelines in the state. I've always had it serviced on time at the dealer, and kept up with its maintenance and care. The engine started to fail out of nowhere - making a weird tapping/knocking noise. I made an appointment to have it checked out by the dealership, and that same day my check engine light came on while I was on the freeway going 70mph. It began shaking at an idle. I got off the freeway, and parked. I was afraid to turn the car back on. The check engine light listed off numerous warnings of failed systems. Since my appointment wasn't until the next day, I left my car near the dealership overnight, instead of driving it back home for fear of causing an accident, or having my engine overheat or explode. I brought it to the dealership the next day, and they confirmed that I had a fuel injector issue, consistent with a known issue, for which I had an extended warranty letter re: the MIL warnings. However, they also noted a possible connection rod issue in the engine, and said the engine would have to be completely replaced or rebuilt. I have read and heard from many other people with a 2017 Honda Ridgeline that they have experienced this issue with their engines failing well before they should - at 90k miles, 140k miles, etc. There is a known issue with many of the 2017 Honda Ridgelines - and a recall did occur, but my VIN says my vehicle is not part of this recall - however, clearly my engine had the problem that Honda was aware of. My whole family was in the car when the check engine light came on, and the sound got worse - we could have been injured in an accident on the freeway, or had the engine overheat/explode while we were in the car. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by the dealer service center, and has been inspected by them. No warnings or symptoms before the failure - just complete shutdown out of nowhere.

a smell of gas came into the car. fuel pump was the problem as per the dealer. could cause driver to pass out or fire

7/13/2022 Recall work completed by dealer on Fuel Injection As of 9/26/2024 milage 73294. Now dealer states fuel injection is failing again!

My 2017 honda Ridgeline started making loud noises coming from the engine. I took it to autozone and they used there diagnostic tool and all that came up was an issue with the oxygen getting into the fuel due to an issue with the fuel injector. On my way home it stopped running as I was making a turn. Mechanic confirmed engine failure. I did research and typed my vin into Kelly blue book recall section and 7 recalls came up, including the engine. But when I called Honda they said only 2 recalls were associated with my VIN.I take good care of my truck and there is not reason why my engine would fail unless there was an issue with manufacturing, or one of the other recalls caused the engine to fail. I purchased my truck for $30k a few years ago and I can’t afford for it to completely inoperable and am certain the engine seized because of a manufacturing issue.

On our way home the motor started ticking loudly and more and more loss of power. All the dash lights came on with the check engine light. We called the dealer and they said to bring it in. We babied it another mile and could no longer go more than 20 mph. We pulled over as soon as we could and the motor couldn’t go any more. Had it towed to the dealership and they said the whole fuel injection system failed and then discovered the rod bearings were destroyed. The car only had 84,000 miles on it and we have only owned it since November of 2023 we had the last service done at the dealership. I know the VIN isn’t right for the recall of the 2017 Ridgelines rod bearings but so many other people have had the same problem. I feel it should at least be looked into more. I do not have a repair invoice yet because it is still at the dealership waiting for a motor to be delivered to put in it.

Apr 11, 2024

Rod bearings failed, leaving metal shards in the pistons which causes engine the to overheat and seize or catch fire. The engine noise was getting increasingly loud over a 3 day period so I took it into the dealership (Honda of Seattle) and they found rod bearings had worn apart and were floating around inside the engine. This requires a full engine replacement. There were no warning lamps.

Jan 18, 2024

Unspent fuel (not exhaust) fumes entering the cabin from the front of the truck. Also noticeable from the outside when the truck is running. Fuel pump and EVAP were checked and there were no leaks. This does not happen if the "recirc" button is pushed, only when fresh air is entering the cabin through the ventilation system.

Well maintained 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E, being operated within owners manual defined parameters, experienced a rapid loss of engine control. Vehicle was inoperable, and required a tow truck to be delivered to a Honda Certified Service Center. Honda Certified Service Center, has found the #6 connecting rod bearing to have failed.

Emission System Warning Light came on and vehicle running a little rough. Vehicle has ~92K miles on it. Light came on about 2 months ago but after two weeks, no longer appeared. Taking to dealer tomorrow for diagnosis. Reading literature issue with fuel rail system. Known problem with Honda 3.5L engines apparently.

Dec 2, 2023

Was driving on 2 lane highway when truck suddenly decelerated, started shuddering, so I pulled to side of road. Dash lights started cycling through warning lights, ultimately settled on saying it was an emission system problem. Car would not accelerate beyond 30-35 miles an hour after that and would even then suddenly lose power then regain it. But still could not get above 30 or 35 miles an hour. Luckily, no one was behind when this happened and I was able to pull to the side of the road. Normally this is a 55-60 mile an hour busy 2 lane highway. And I was less than a mile from home so was able to limp home. The next morning, tried to drive to the dealer, and had to return home because it would speed up to 45-50, but then would do the same thing again that I described above. Had to get the car towed to the dealer. I checked the OBD scanner and it said the problem was P0087, Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low. Dealer said it was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Vehicle has about 93,000 miles and is a 2017 model. Don't have the repair invoice yet, picking up the vehicle and paying the $1,700 dollar repair bill this afternoon. Can provide it later if you need/want it.

Gas smell coming from under the hood and in the cabin on my 2017 honda ridgeline after it warms up. ( believe this could be a safety issue because of the gas fumes.) I contacted Honda ( manufacturer ) and was told their was no recall for this issue. I took it to the dealer and they were unable to find any leaks but stated the could do a fuel system repair for $626.00 and a direct inject service for $240.00 Truck had no codes or messages come up.

2017 Honda Rideline RTL-T with 46,464 miles on the odometer. While on a trip totaling approximately 550 miles, after travelling approximately 350 miles we stopped to refuel. The Truck after fueling was hard to start and would lose power at 35-40 mph and would not accelerate. Check Engine light was on plus Various Dash Caution lights (ABS, SRS, EPS, AWD, VSA, Hill Traction, etc) I used an ODB 2 code reader and read P0087 Fuel Rail/System Too Low. I was able to take back roads driving approximately 8 miles at 20 mph to safely arrive at closest Honda Dealership in Abilene. The service advisor there told us it could not be diagnosed that day and the service department do not stock parts. We rented a vehicle and continued our journey. If the truck broke while we were on I-20 Freeway while traffic was passing us at 80 mph, we could have easily been in a serious accident. The service advisor called 1 day later with diagnosis of failed High Pressure Fuel Pump, with replacement part not expected until 4 days later (includes 2 weekend days) when it could be installed. The truck was repaired on the estimated day and we were able to drive 350 miles back home with no other issues. Strange thing was on the dealer invoice they noted that code they retrieved was P0088 Fuel/Rail System Pressure Too High

My incident is related to the Keyless Module Part #0 38320-T6Z-A31, My pick up was parked outside in my work parking lot. It started the alarm making sounds, my coworkers let me know it,I just went to take look check it and I just turned off the alarm and set it on again, after that the car started do it again after 5 minutes, and it was a nightmare because after several times, I tried to disable the alarm in the touch screen panel, but it doesn't have any control I was available to disable it, I was seating in my car, and I noticed the instrumental panel started to turn on and off,it was like my car tried to turn on the engine by itself for several times, and making really scared noise like is going to have a electrical short cut, I was worried it can cause making my car coughing fire. I decided to make a video of it because in case it my car coughing fire. So I decided to live open my car with out lock. I noticed it was happening before after I changed the engine start/ stop switch was changed by the dealer because it was a recall and I also started having problems with the Keyless system, after they changed it, it started working again, I noticed the alarm sometimes made the same thing but I didn't put much attention about it, because it happens sometimes, but this time was really scary, so I made appointment with the dealer and they told me my car had problems with the Keyless Module, I told them if this problem is related to the engine start/stop engine. They said it wasn't. My concern is to try to preventing the vehicles can coughing fire when they are parked. I don't know it would happening but for my experienced ,Your department should find out it. I didn't change this part yet because it's really expensive to replace it. I do believe it can be concern to be a safety issue. Link of video. https://www.mediafire.com/file/ztnwcrkhegbjb13/20220928_125159.mp4/file

THE VEHICLE CHUGS AND HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN THE CITY. THE RPM TACHOMETER "BOUNCES" AS IT DOES SO. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP SEPTEMBER 26, 2019 THINKING IT WAS FUEL PUMP ISSUE (RECALL 19-013) AND THEY SAID THIS WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AND THE FUEL PUMP SYSTEM WAS FINE. PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING.

VEHICLE DISPLACE EMISSIONS SYSTEM ISSUE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - ADVISED BY BOTH DEALERSHIP AND INSURANCE ADJUSTER THAT THIS HAS BECOME COMMON IN THE LAST THREE YEARS SINCE A CHANGE IN MANUFACTURING AND THE USE OF A DIFFERENT KIND OF PLASTIC IN THE TANK. THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE AT THE DEALER THEN SHOWED AN ENTIRE DUMPSTER FILLED WITH REPLACED FUEL TANKS. *TR

EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT CAME ON AT ABOUT 50,500 MILES. TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE ONLY THING I NOTICED BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON WAS THE RPM WOULD 'BOUNCE' SLIGHTLY WHILE AT AROUND 35 MPH AND AROUND 47MPH. IT WOULD OCCUR WHILE MAINTAINING THE SPEED OR GOING UP ANY INCLINE, BUT WOULD STOP IF I ACCELERATED AND MAINTAINED A HIGHER SPEED

"EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM" LIGHT CAME ON AROUND 60K MILES. SERVICE TECH SAID TO IGNORE IT IF IT GOES AWAY. IT DID, THEN IT CAME BACK ON REPEATEDLY OVER S SPAN OF MONTHS. EVENTUALLY, VEHICLE STARTED TO RUN POORLY, HESITATING ON ACCELERATION. HONDA SERVICE DIAGNOSED AS FUEL INJECTORS FAILING, PROBLEM REQUIRES TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF FUEL INJECTORS. WIFE'S 2017 PILOT HAS SAME PROBLEM, BROTHER'S 2017 PILOT HAD SAME PROBLEM. CONTACTED HONDA, THEY DECLINED TO STAND BEHIND EITHER, AS THE VEHICLES ARE PAST WARRANTY ON MILEAGE.

EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON AT 57000 MILES AND CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF UNTIL 1-30-2020 WHEN AT 69000 MILES EVERY LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT IN TO SAFE MODE ALMOST CAUSING ANOTHER VEHICLE TO ALMOST REAREND ME. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE BAD. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM KNOWN TO HONDA SINCE THEY HAD REDESIGNED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. END RESULT: $1610.00. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IMO.

MY HONDA RIDGELINE IS KEPT OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME. WE RECENTLY HAD A SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN FOLLOWED BY TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE 20'S. WHEN I WENT TO THE GAS STATION A COUPLE DAYS AGO, I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE FLAP THAT TAKES THE PLACE OF A GAS CAP TO PUSH OPEN. IT WAS FROZEN SHUT SOLIDLY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO SIGN OF WATER ON THE OUTSIDE THE WEATHER FINALLY GOT ABOVE FREEZING TODAY AND I MANAGE TO BREAK THE ICE BEHIND THE FILLER FLAP AND GOT THE PICTURE BELOW. AT HOME THIS WAS AN INCONVENIENCE. ON A LONG ROAD TRIP IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIG PROBLEM. I PRESUME THIS ALSO MEANS THAT EVERY TIME IT RAINS I'M GETTING WATER IN THE GAS TANK. I HAD NO IDEA .

THIS VEHICLE COMES EQUIPPED WITH A CAPLESS FILL DOOR. UPON TRYING TO FILL UP WITH GAS, I FOUND MYSELF UNABLE TO INSERT THE NOZZLE FOR FILLING. AFTER FURTHER EFFORT, THE FIRST FUEL FLAP BROKE. AFTER REMOVING THE BROKEN FLAP, I FOUND THE FUEL FILL NECK FILLED ENTIRELY WITH ICE, THUS PREVENTING INWARD MOVEMENT OF THE FLAP. I WAS UNABLE TO FILL THE VEHICLE UP WITH FUEL AS A RESULT. VEHICLE IS A 2017 WITH 50,000 MILES.

THE VEHICLE DECELERATES IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT WARNING TO LIMP MODE. ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON ON THE DASH AND THE THROTTLE PEDAL IS DEAD. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE OVER 10 MPH. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO THROTTLE UP THE VEHICLE I.E. SUCH AS MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM AN OFF RAMP. THE SITUATION WILL OCCUR IN NORMAL CITY DRIVING AS WELL. WHEN THE VEHICLE DECELERATES IT IS IMMEDIATE AND WILL NOT RECOVER. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU IMMEDIATELY BECOME A ENCUMBRANCE TO TRAFFIC FLOW AND HAVE NO MEANS OF GETTING OUT OF THE WAY. THIS IMMEDIATE DECELERATION IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT IS FRIGHTENING AS THE DRIVER. TO DATE, HONDA HAS NO ANSWER FOR THE PROBLEM. I HAVE INVESTED SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN DIAGNOSTICS AND THE SISTER TRUCK TO THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF HONDA ENGINEERS FOR A MONTH WITH NO RESOLUTION. AS WE OWN SIX OF THESE VEHICLES I HAVE PARKED THEM ALL FOR THE SAFETY OF MY COWORKERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IN MY OPINION THIS A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH NO RESOLUTION REQUIRES AND IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FORM THE OEM.

ICE FORMED BETWEEN THE INNER AND OUTER FLAPS OF THE CAPLESS FUEL FILLER SYSTEM. I HAD TO BREAK THE OUTER FLAP TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE SPACE BETWEEN THE FLAPS. UNABLE TO FILL UP GAS DUE TO ICE FORM AND ICE FORM IS DUE TO WATER RETAIN IN THE CAP-LESS GAS FILLER.

Feb 17, 2018

RAIN/SNOW WATER LEAKED INTO THE CAP-LESS GAS FILLER NECK. WATER SETTLES BETWEEN THE OUTER AND INNER FILLER FLAPS. EXPERIENCED THE WATER FREEZING WHICH PREVENTED THE OUTER FLAP FROM OPENING INWARD. BECAUSE OF THE ICE BLOCKAGE, WAS UNABLE TO FUEL VEHICLE DURING FREEZING TEMPERATURES. THE INABILITY TO FUEL THE VEHICLE COULD RESULT IN A LIFE-THREATEN SITUATION WHERE THE VEHICLE IS STRANDED IN FREEZING ENVIRONMENTS. REQUESTING A RETROFIT TO PREVENT WATER INTRUSION OR TO ALLOW PROPER DRAINAGE.

Mileage: 6,050

CAPLESS FUEL / GAS FILLER SYSTEM FREEZES IN WINTER AND DOES NOT ALLOW FOR VEHICLE TO BE FUELED AT GAS STATION. HAIR DRYER NEEDED TO BE USED FOR 3-5 MINUTES TO THAW THE DOOR AND THEN A SCREW DRIVER USED TO PRY IT OPEN. PICTURES OF REMAINING ICE ARE ATTACHED

Mileage: 11,000

Feb 8, 2018

CAPLESS FUEL FILLER ALLOWS WATER TO COLLECT BETWEEN THE OUTER DOOR AND THE INNER DOOR OF THE FILLER NECK. APPROXIMATELY 15ML OF WATER COLLECTS IN THIS AREA AFTER ANY RAINFALL. THE WATER ENTERS THE TANK WHEN THE FUEL NOZZLE IS INSERTED. WATER IN THE FUEL SYSTEM CAN CAUSE VEHICLE PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS AS WELL AS MAINTENANCE CODES WHICH REQUIRE DEALER SERVICE TO REPAIR. IN COLD CLIMATES, THE WATER FREEZES PREVENTING FUELING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SITUATION HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE ALREADY THIS WINTER, ONE TIME REQUIRED THE VEHICLE TO STAY INSIDE UNTIL THE ICE MELTED AND THE WATER COULD BE EXTRACTED.

Mileage: 420

Feb 7, 2018

NEEDED GAS IN SUB-ZERO TEMPERATURES AND COULD NOT INSERT THE GASOLINE NOZZLE INTO THE CAP-LESS FUEL FILLER. THERE WAS A CHUNK OF ICE BETWEEN THE OUTER DOOR AND INNER DOOR PREVENTING INSERTION OF THE NOZZLE. I HAD TO FORCE THE OUTER DOOR OPEN WITH THE NOZZLE TIP AND BREAK UP THE ICE WITH THE NOZZLE BEFORE I COULD INSERT TO REFUEL. THE AREA BETWEEN THE OUTER DOOR AND INNER DOOR IS PRONE TO ACCUMULATION OF WATER DURING HEAVY RAIN OR CAR WASHES.

FUEL DOOR FREEZING SHUT. WATER GETTING IN FUEL NECK AND FREEZING. UNABLE TO PUT FUEL IN VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS. MANY PEOPLE MAY TRY TO HEAT THIS WITH OPEN FLAME OR HEATING ELEMENT AND CAUSE SAFETY ISSUE.

Jan 4, 2018

WATER LEAKS IN TO THE CAPLESS FUEL FILLER AND FREEZES CREATING AN ICE DAM THAT PREVENTS FUELING THE VEHICLE.

Mileage: 10,000

Jan 4, 2018

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH CAP LESS FUEL FILLER SYSTEM. WATER ENTERS FILLER AREA EITHER FROM RAIN OR CAR WASH. IN COLD WEATHER, WATER FREEZES AND YOU CANNOT GET GAS FILLER PUMP INTO CAP LESS FILLER TUBE IN VEHICLE AS ICE FORMS BLOCKING ENTRY. VEHICLE OWNER IS LIKELY TO USE SOME FORM OF HEAT TO MELT THE ICE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AT A GAS STATION. IT HAS OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS.

Mileage: 5,500

Jan 4, 2018

ICE FORMS BETWEEN THE OUTER FLAPPER AND THE INNER FLAPPER OF THE CAPLESS GAS TANK IN THE FUEL DOOR. THIS PROHIBITS THE OWNER FROM PLACING THE FUEL NOZZLE INTO THE FILLER NECK TO ADD GASOLINE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS WHEN OUTDOOR AMBIENT TEMPERATURES REACH FREEZING. IT IS MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN WHEN IT SNOWS, RAINS, OR THE VEHICLE IS TAKEN THROUGH A CAR WASH.
