50 mph dry, clear and straight road, Right Rear control arm broke causing the rear wheel to become detached from the car and causing the car to careen into oncoming lane before correcting and landing in the right-hand ditch. Could have been a disaster and only by grace was this not a disaster for me and an unknown oncoming car. Event was witnessed by people in 2 other cars and they both stopped and gave their names.

Vehicle steering wheel started giving a lag feedback about 9 months to 1 year ago. About 5 weeks ago, started noticing loud metal noise when going over bump with steering wheel being rotated. Did some research to find similar issues on Azera and many Hyundai Sonata and other vehicles where steering wheel rubber coupler were worn out. Later also saw many complains here for this vehicle alone. I found no recall has been giving to the Azera, while it was giving to Sonata and others. Had to take it to a mechanic to replace it, which charged for 4 hours of labor, and <$10 of part. The rubber couple was indeed worn out.

Steering problem started with an annoying dead spot of approximately 1/2 inch on center and now has expanded to approximately 2" accompanied by severe rattling on rough surfaces. Checked this condition on U-Tube and found it to be caused by a crumbling steering coupler in the electric steering assist unit. This same coupler was recalled in most Hyundai models EXCEPT the Azura. I believe its failure to be as grave a safety concern as it was in other models and erodes my confidence in Hyundai and in an otherwise trouble-free vehicle.

Clunking noise and shaking in the steering wheel. Initial research points to steering coupler which has been recalled on various other Hyundai models but not the Azera ( this is a frequent occurrence with Hyundai recalls since not as many Azeras were sold) The mechanic I took it to would not replace just the couple and quoted replacing the entire rack and pinion.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH and pulling into his driveway, there was a clunking noise coming from the steering column. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and found that there were complaints about the failure of the steering coupler. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

The Azera uses the same part # for the Steering Coupler that was recalled on the Sonata and Elantra. This SAME part # is used in 3 other models which Hyundai did not recall and somehow was let off the hook for addressing. I have replaced one in a 2014 Santa Fe and 2013 Azera. I want to make sure the NHTSA is aware of the fact that the same part is used across multiple models, yet only 2 were recalled. This is unfair that we have to pay $400 for each car to replace a 5 dollar part that Hyundai has recalled. Below are the models and part numbers. Any help is greatly appreciated. Vibration and banging and shudder felt from the steering column when driving over uneven pavement. The effect was more pronounced at higher speeds > 50 MPH. A Certified mechanic found the steering coupler badly worn and was replaced.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a clicking sound in the steering wheel while turning to the left or the right. The contact stated that the longer the vehicle was driven, the louder the sound got. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the failure was with the steering coupler. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

The steering wheel coupler is defective. Steering became unstable. Rattle and shaking. It’s terrifying to drive and not know what’s wrong. Got told it was tires. Got told it was the alignment. Got told that it had something to do with the drive train.. too find out that it’s a $11 part.and to discover that Elantra and Sonata owners were notified but not Azera owners is just negligent behavior.

The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The steering wheel of my 2013 Hyundai Azera malfunctions. It makes a clicking noise when i move the steering wheel either clockwise or anti clockwise. The clicking noise dramatically increases when the road is not smooth. It started since almost a month back. After doing some research I found that this seems to be a common problem on many Hyundai models. There are many youtube videos showing this same problem that I am facing in my car. Since the same problem exists on Azera as well, I request you to please look into this matter as many folks had reported that the steering could fail to respond due to this issue. It is also a safety issue if the steering fails to respond while driving on the road on freeway. I can understand that Hyundai might have not received so much complains as the number of cars sold for Sonata and Elanatra models is significantly higher compared to Azera model. But if this is a safety issue and if the same parts are used in Azera model, I believe the recall should apply for Azera as well. The problem is easily reproducible. There is no warning lights or any messages or symptoms prior to failure.

there is a clicking sound in the steering wheel when turning. The steering coupling needs to be replaced. This was a recall for 208-2015 Sonata's, Elantra's and Santa Fe's, BUT NOT THE AZERA. It is the same part in all models. This is a significant safety issue that Hyundai is aware of, but did not recall the Azera's as well

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALSO LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER PARKWAY HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 5920 MARKET ST A, WILMINGTON, NC 28405, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COUPLING WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

HYUNDAI PROVIDES A 10YR/100K WARRANTY ON THIS PART FOR THE ELANTRA AND SONATA. ITS UNFAIR WHEN THE SAME FAULTY PARTS ARE USED ON THE AZERA BUT NOT COVERED AS IT IS ON THE OTHER MODELS.

MY 2013 HYUNDAI AZERA ENGINE FAILED MAY 19, 2019 AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR INSURANCE DENIED MY CLAIM DUE TO FINDINGS OF A MANUFACTURES/MECHANICAL DEFAULT AND HYUNDAI REFUSED TO FIX IT STATING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET, IF AND WHENI GET IT TOWED THERE. ON OCTOBER 2020, HYUNDAI RECEIVED MY CAR BY TOW AND SAID THAT THEY COULD REBUILD AN ENGINE AND PUT IT IN AT A COST TO ME. THE REBUILT ENGINE WAS PUT IN JAN 2020 AND FAILED AT THE DEALERSHIP AS THE TESTED IN FEBRUARY 2020 I PICKED MY CAR UP AND THE ENGINE FAILED A WEEK LATER AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. CHP IMPOUNDED MY CAR AND HYUNDAI REFUSED TO GET IT OUT. I PAID THE FEE. OUR 2013 AZERA, WITH LESS THAN 29K MILES, STARTED WANDERING BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING. EVEN ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS AT SLOW SPEEDS NOT JUST ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. I STARTED NOTICING THAT I HAD PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. AT FIRST IT WAS ONLY MAYBE A HALF INCH BUT IF I TURNED THE WHEEL FAST ENOUGH BACK AND FORTH, IT MADE A THUMPING NOISE AND I COULD FEEL IT IN THE WHEEL. NOW THERE IS 6 INCHES TURN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND THE WHEEL AND COLUMN RATTLES AND THUDS ON EVERY IMPERFECTION IN ROAD SURFACE. THE FIRST INDICATION WAS NOTICED 4 DAYS AGO. TODAY I FEAR IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. EVEN TO DRIVE IN TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE PROBLEM I HAVE SEEMS TO BE SIMILAR TO THOSE ALREADY DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL AND WILL BE FIXED AT MY EXPENSE SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY YEAR/MODEL HYUNDAI. THE STEERING COLUMN HAS THE SAME FAULTY COUPLER THAT HAS TO REPLACED ON ALL THE SONATA, ELECTRA'S AND KIA'S IN THE YEAR RANGES FROM 2009 TO 2017. THEY HAVE A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING COUPLER IN THE 2009-2017 SONATA AND ELECTRA CARS, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THE AZERA. AFTER TALKING WITH MANY DEALERSHIPS, THEY REPLACE THEM DAILY ON THE AZERA'S AS WELL, WHY WAS THIS COUPLER NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? IF THE COUPLER BREAKS WHILE DRIVING ALL STEERING IS LOST. JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF RESEARCH WILL SHOW YOU HOW MANY AZERA OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME REPAIR. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED AND IT MAKES A CRACKING NOISE, BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. THE NOISE INCREASES OVER TIME AND STARTS TO RATTLE ON BUMPS. THE PROBLEM CAN CAUSE DEATHS, IF NOT MADE AWARE OF TO THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES.

WHEN DRIVING ON UNEVEN ROADS THE STEERING WHEEL RATTLES LOUDLY AND SHAKES CONSTANTLY. AFTER RESERACHING ONLINE I SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. MY SONATA HAD THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED. CLUNKING HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING OR STILL AND, SOUNDS LIKE METAL LOOSE IN THE COLUMN.

STEERING WHEEL: THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIGOROUSLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING PAST 60. ALSO, BIG CLUNKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. FEELS LIKE STEERING WHEEL WILL FALL OFF. HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH MY SONATA. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SONATA ON THIS TO REPLACE THE STEERING COUPLING. AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON: SAME ISSUE AS MY SONATA, HOWEVER THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE AZERA. THIS IS CLEARLY ISSUES WITH LOT OF HYUNDAI'S. THIS NEEDS ANEW CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY/SPIRAL CABLE. IF THESE ARE SAME ISSUES ON A SONATA THEN THERE SHOULD OF BEEN A RECALL ON THE AZERA AS WELL. NOT LOT OF PEOPLE TALK TIME TO FILL THIS OUT AND REPORT THIS. I GUESS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT NEEDS TO OCCUR FOR HYUNDAI TO ACT.

HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED OTHER COUPLING SYSTEMS BUT NONE ON THE AZERA. I HAVE OWNED CARS WITH OVER 100,000 MILES AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ERROR.

AS OF 7/26/19 MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I STARTED MY CAR IT WAS STILL OVERNIGHT AND HASN'T GONE OFF I TOOK IT TO NALLEY HYUNDAI IN LITHONIA G.A 8/12/19 WHERE I WAS TOLD THEIRS NO RECALL BUT THE CLOCK SCREW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND MY STEERING COLUMN TO FIX THE CLICK IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS THEN GIVEN AN ESTIMATE I FEEL THIS IS A FAULTY ITEM THAT IS CONDUCIVE TO MY SAFETY AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT

THE STEERING COLUMN AND WHEEL HAD A LOT OF PLAY THAT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I HAD A SPOT THAT WOULD " POP" WHEN YOU TURN IT LEFT OR RIGHT. THAT ALSO PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT I WOULD GET A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL OR HIT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BUMP ON THE ROAD. I FOUND A LOT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE HYUNDAI'S AND A LARGE RECALL FOR THE SONATAS AND ELANTRAS BUT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE AZERA. ITS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AND SAME PART WITH A DEFECTIVE RUBBER COUPLER BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. I PAID TO HAVE THE PART REPAIRED YESTERDAY WHEN THE TWO OTHER PEOPLE ON THE HYUNDAI WORK SHUTTLE HAD THEIR REPAIRS COVERED BY THE RECALL. ALL 3 OF US IN THAT CAR HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM ! THAT'S HOW COMMON IT IS! HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY NOT INCLUDE THE AZERA?

STEERING WHEEL IS SO TIGHT IT BOUNCES BACK INTO POSITION ALSO THE CAR DRIFTS ON THE ROAD AND THE STEERING WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL ITS LIKE IT SLOTTED SO IF YOU JUST MOVE IT A FRACTION IT WILL FALL INTO A SLOT AND THEN YOU GOING OFF THE ROAD I FEEL THE DRIVE BY WIRE IS SO TIGHT THAT IT WILL SNAP AND KILL SOMEBODY OVER TIME AND THE DRIFTING IT WILL DRIFT FAST SO IF YOUR NOT 100 PERCENT PAYING ATTENTION YOUR DEAD.

UNABLE TO TRACK SMOOTHLY AROUND CURVES. SIMILAR TO ALTERNATING CROSS WINDS, EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NONE. SITUATION VERY AGGRAVATING IN ACTUAL CROSS WINDS. POLICE OFFICER PULLED ME OVER AND SAID HE WOULD BE JUSTIFIED IN ISSUING A TICKET FOR "WEAVING". DEALER TECHNICIAN DROVE THE CAR AND ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A NEGATIVE CHARACTERISTIC OF ELECTRICAL STEERING AND NOTHING TO BE DONE FOR IT.
