I have had a couple of issues that I have had others tell me or read online that they have had the same issues 1- When I bought the car, which was used at the time. Just a couple of years ago I drove it off of the lot and it had a break issue. I had to take it towed back to the dealership bc something broke underneath and the breaks were failing. So they fixed the problem supposedly. I only had a 30 day warranty and after the 30 days the breaks started grinding every time I stopped. This went on for a long time. I had an other mechanic look at it and did something and I can not recall exactly what he said but after about a week, the noise started back up and at that time I had had the car for about a yr and he said I still had about 25 percent left on my break pads. So probably about 4 months ago I changed my front breaks, including the rotors and the back breaks to, I also had to replace the front left caliber bc while trying to take the pin out of the caliber to clean it, the pin broke. So I replaced it. Took my care in to get inspected And they told me I need to do the back breaks and the back right caliber to pass inspection. So I did the work and got it done. I am not a rich person so I can only take it a mechanic if it something that I can not do myself my I have had good training bc had been a mechanic and had taught at mechanic schools so I know I have help and if I am not sure about something he will help. So now after doing all of that hard work, I am starting to hear the grinding noise again with the breaks and my breaks are good. It always starts our really light and then gets louder within a couple of weeks. 2- the second issue is that my airbag light is on, I am not sure why this is , I have never been in any kind of accident. One day just popped on and never went off 3- I have read online that you have had a recalls on newer models for Hyundai Elantra with the issue but not my year. Well my trunk latch ended up get latched and would not open

The brake hydraulic system failed due to a rusted and leaking brake line running from the front to the rear of the vehicle. The damaged brake line is still on the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The brake line leak caused the brake pedal to go to the floor, significantly reducing or eliminating braking ability. This created a high risk of being unable to stop the vehicle, which could lead to a collision and put myself, passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers in danger. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issue was confirmed by an independent service center (Busse Automotive) during a brake system evaluation. They traced the brake fluid leak to a rusted brake line section that needs replacement. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The only inspection so far has been by the independent repair shop. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Not that I know of.
Under carriage steel brake line rust through at support bracket and causing a loss of brake fluid and risk of stopping condition that raise a concern of an accident and protentional risk of injury to the owner/operator and other drivers on the road. This rust condition and due to road salt condition in state that use road salt and Hyundai clearly lacks undercoating protection. This issue has been seen by other 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT owner and been clearly documented in Hyundai discussion forums. The brake light did come on and I drive it to the first repair shop to fix the issue by replacing the rusted brake line. The repair shop noted the lack of manufactures undercoating of this product cause numerous rusting concern on the under carriage of this vehicle include steel brake line, steel Fuel line and steel Evp emission lines along with safety concern associated with each issue
After the recall at Hyundai, my car wouldn't run and there were many lights on the dashboard. It was later checked and the instability light problem persisted. They fixed on the same time, and say something problem with the update. They later informed me that I have a problem with the brake switch, and the brake lights don't work because of it. I replaced and doesn’t work, I went back to the store and they want me to pay a fee to have it analyzed again. Even though before the recall, the lights and the car were working perfectly.
Hi I recently brought my car in for recall repairs involving the ABS fuse and brake pedal stopper. Right after the service, my traction control light came on, and the car struggled to move forward. I took it to a mechanic who said the front brakes were locked. When I brought it back to your service center, I was told the hydraulic calipers were bad and that the brake pads and rotors were rubbing against each other. I was also told it’s just an "unfortunate coincidence." However, since I had no brake issues before the recall work, I’m very concerned that something may have gone wrong during the service.

I have had a Fire Risk Warning Safety Recall on my car for 1.5 years and there is no remedy for it. This puts my safety at risk daily, as well as everyone around me.
I was never informed through mail, email, or phone call about a potential fire hazard safety recall from Hyundai. In turn, due to my unawareness of the recall, my 2013 Elantra’s ABS pump had caught on fire, melted into the control module, and melted the ABS electrical harness to the module, short circuiting the ECU and starter as well.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal became loose while depressing and the steering wheel was abnormally stiff. An unknown warning light illuminated. In addition, the driver saw an abnormal amount of smoke coming from under the hood and had inhaled smoke while attempting to exit the vehicle. The vehicle caught on fire moments later when the driver safely exited the vehicle. The local fire department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. No police report was filed. The driver sustained minor injuries but no medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot for further investigation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

I was driving under 10 miles an hr because the roads were still wet from the night before as i am on the ramp to get on the highway barely turning the wheel it locks all the lights come on the dashboard such as abs and i crash into a railing because i couldn't move anything. Again only last week after this has been supposedly resolved driving barely going 2 miles my bf was actually driving and again roads were wet same thing all the abs sensor lights come on the dash the wheel locks and the car doesn't move, it's scary and ridiculous the amount of others I have found experiencing the same issue and from that accident I can barely drive now my anxiety and ptsd from the event has even affected my work so now I am losing money I didn't think I would ever fear being in a car and I hope you guys fix this so no one experiences what I am currently experiencing.

In the winter of 2024 I became aware, during a routine pre-trip inspection under the hood of my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT, that the level of brake fluid was low enough not to be visible in the "overflow" container. About a quarter of a quart of brake fluid was then added. I then began checking the brake fluid level often and noticed that over time, I had to add brake fluid at least once a week. The problem increased to the point that I was going through a quart of brake fluid each month. In the meantime, I attempted to get various mechanics to find the leak but had a hard time convincing anyone I was leaking brake fluid as THERE WAS NEVER A WARNING LAMP OR MESSAGE ACTIVATED. After paying for other "suggested" repairs such as replacing brakes the leak continued and at times the brakes became squishy until finally a mechanic acknowledged a leak coming from the area of the ABS module actuator which he said was "fried". My car had to be in a Hyundai shop 90 miles away for three weeks awaiting the ABS actuator part and repairs as I was advised the vehicle was dangerous and I could lose the use of my brakes. Again, this issue would have never been highlighted if I had not been diligent about checking the brake fluid and could have ended with much more serious consequences than inconvenience and expense. Again, there was never a warning light indicator to emphasize a potential hazard.
Hyundai recall 251 happened in Sept. 2023 and a remedy was not made available until summer 2024. This was a "park outside due to fire risk" recall and a completely unacceptable amount of time to put families in danger. Fast forward to when the remedy was available. I went to my dealer, ALM Hyundai West, who completed the recall. A week later I checked the Hyundai website and the recall was not marked complete. ALM told me I needed to come back in so they could confirm it was done correctly and take pictures. I wasn't happy but I went back and they took their pictures. That was a month ago. My recall is STILL not marked as complete and ALM is so disorganized, I am not sure if my car was actually fixed at this point.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the brake pedal stopper was fractured, causing the brake lights to remain illuminated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis and an unknown repair were completed; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. I (finally) received a letter with instructions for what to do to make an appointment to get my car fixed so it doesn't catch on fire per Recall 251, but I was unable to do so. I followed the instructions exactly. When I go to the website [XXX] and enter my VIN number, the recall appears. But then when I try to schedule an appointment, that recall does not appear as an option to create the appointment for. They did not test this system at all, and they did not list any other ways to make the appointment in the letter. As the original and sole owner of this 2013 Hyundai Elantra, I was notified of Campaign # 23V65100, by letter, from Hyundai. I set an appointment with Suburban Hyundai, Troy, MI after confirming with said dealership that needed part(s) were on hand. I arrived as scheduled on [XXX] 2024 for needed repair. Service department examined vehicle and determined that my vehicle did need ordered repair: but stated they do not have the part(s). I inquired as to: a. Why they do not have the part when they knew fully well that that was what was needed to enact the repair.;b.Why they did not tell customer, after taking one day off from work and driving 50 miles round trip...that they do not carry the parts they are mandated to replace. Suburban Hyundai stated that they would call me in 7-10 days when the part arrived, so I could get repair completed and, of course, take another day off from work, drive 50 miles, and fear my garage does not burn down as I have a contract with State Farm Insurance that I will park my vehicle in an enclosed garage each night for storage. Also, Hyundai and Kia have a distinct reputation for vehicle theft, and leaving my vehicle parked on-the-street is a sure way to have a vehicle stolen! I then called Elder Hyundai in Macomb, MI, they stated that Hyundai does not yet have a solution to fix the ABS Fire and Fuse issue and that a "parts kit", as I was told by Sean, Svc. Manager at Suburban Hyundai, does not yet exist. I feel defrauded by Hyundai Manufacturing and Suburban Hyundai in particular. Do I need to park my vehicle at the Grosse Pointe Woods, Fire Station? I called the Hyundai Corporate Number regarding recalls and could not, in any way, connect with a person or voicemail to leave a message a response: can this/will this repair be made and: why must I now face another day off from work and another 50 mile drive, to what effect? My vehicle has been affected by Hyundai Recall #251. Hyundai sent mixed messages in the recall saying park the car while also saying the car is safe to drive. My brakes have began locking up, pulsing and vibrating at stops, and declined power braking. Recently, the warning lights are flicking on and off and occasionally I think I smell it burning. I immediately shut the car off. This recall was announced in Nov 2023. It is May 2023 and there is still no remedy. It is not safe for me to drive my car. I owe payments for a vehicle I cannot use and I rely on that vehicle to get to work to pay for the car. Hyundai needs to offer a real solution to the issue of leaking brake fluid and the fuse issues.
Hyundai is taking too long to remedy a known problem: NHTSA Recall # 23V-651 000, Hyundai Recall # 251
It has been 7 months since this recall NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000 and Hyundai has still not implemented a remedy I just checked their website and there has been no filter information given since the fire hazard warning. It makes me very uncomfortable knowing my car could catch fire at any time. 7 months is a long time to wait for a remedy
Traffic ahead of me rapidly decelerated. Upon applying the brakes, the peddle froze and then went to the floor without any resistance. I attempted to pump the brakes without success. I impacted the car ahead of me at 40 mph, the posted speed limit, creating substantial damage to both vehicles. The brakes failed to operate and the airbags failed to deploy upon impact. The vehicle failed to slow down and was reacting as if the accelerator was stuck. There were no system warnings at the time of the accident or afterwards. Braking abilities resumed immediately after impact. There is no visible evidence of any fluid leaks, brake fluid or otherwise. The vehicle was last serviced by the dealership for an oil change at the end of January 2024. A brake inspection was performed at that time. I was aware of a recall notice Campaign 251 regarding the brake ABS system. When I inquired at the last service date, I was informed no fix was available at that time. Current mileage is 49,779. I am still in the process of locating a repair shop.
23V651000 This recall came out in September it has now been 8 months and no remedy has been avaible which to me is not a timely manner, it is getting costly for me to not park near buildings where I normally park or in garages, starting to have to do that and just hope that my car does not catch fire, this is getting ridicules

There is a known safety recall regarding brake fluid being leaked internally that has been acknowledged by Hyundai since September 2023. This can cause fires even when the vehicle is parked. NO SOLUTION has been provided except for "park your vehicle outside". This has been a known safety issue for 8 months and NO SOLUTION has been provided to us owners. Even parking outside is an issue as I live in Memphis, TN the #1 city for auto theft. Auto theft has been rampant also due to Hyundai's unwillingness to install an ignition kill switch at production. Hyundai has been grossly negligent in the production of their vehicles and cutting corners at the consumer's safety expense. Not having a soltuin

The manufacturer (Hyundai) has been ordered to recall and fix my 2013 Elantra and they are not doing so. On their website it says "Incomplete. Remedy not yet available." This recall was issued LAST YEAR, over 5 months ago! Hyundai has had 5 months to not only fix the issue, but at least notify owners of this issue. The only reason I heard about this was from the news!!! Also, the offered fix of replacing a fuse is not going to fix the actual issue - leaking brake fluid. As a parent with small children, in a one-car family, this is unacceptable. Hyundai needs to fix their mistake immediately or find a way for my family to be able to drive safely. Their statement that "if you see smoke, evacuate the car" is completely irresponsible to offer as a solution to families who need precious time to unbuckle their children from car seats. Someone is going to die due to Hyundai's negligence, it's only a matter of time.
I’m filing a complaint about the vehicle recall on my car for the anti brake lock system (recall notice NHTSA 23V651000) I have been waiting for a solution for almost 6 months without any remedy. It is inappropriate the current remedy is to park my car away from buildings in case of fire. How is one supposed to do that when you keep your car at your house and place of work?
REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.OWNERS CAN CONTINUE DRIVING THESE VEHICLES; HOWEVER, HYUNDAI RECOMMENDS PARKING THEIR VEHICLES OUTSIDE AND AWAY FROM STRUCTURE UNTIL THE RECALL REMEDY IS AVAILABLE AND COMPLETED. There is no remedy available yet. This needs to be addressed yesterday!!
There is still not a remedy and we have been notified of this problem since November. Having to wait 6 months for a remedy and the chance that it might catch on fire is highly dangerous and scary! There is no reason that this should take so long. Can the manufacturer not do something about this.
The manufacturer has failed to provide a timely remedy for this problem NHTSA Recall Number 23V-651 (Hyundai Recall Number 251). I received the recall notice in September of 2023 and it is now March 2024. The manufacturer has been non-responsive when I have attempted to have questions answered or a timeline provided. I would like NHTSA to force a response or provide me with an alternative method of being reimbursed for this issue since the manufacturer does not appear interested in fixing it.
This complaint is made regarding Hyundai recall 251 concerning the ABS module. I am the original owner of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra automobile. As of 12 March 2024, Hyundai Motor America has not been responsive to my inquiries when a remedy will be available. I have made numerous inquiries to the Hyundai dealer where I purchased the car, and to Hyundai Motors America. I have been forced to park the vehicle outside of my garage though a Colorado winter for fear of a fire caused by the ABS module malfunction. Hyundai's lack of action is aggravating for the extra wintertime vehicle maintenance this has caused. More importantly, I am reluctant to park this vehicle near other parked cars and buildings, and, taking the recall warning seriously, I am also unable to park the vehicle in public areas such as underground parking garages.
I’m having issues with braking and steering and I have made complaints to Hyundai and they have failed me they brush it off as though I need a new car but there are dangerous issues with this car. I also notified Hyundai Corporate Office on several occasions and a case manager by the name of Jose didn’t help at all nothing was resolved he only left voice messages and nothing was done.
Nothing has happened yet but: The anti-lock brake system is faulty. Hyundai says the brake system could explode into flame either parked or when driving. We were told to park the car at a distance from other cars. My apartment complex has a nearly full parking lot. Wherever I park someone can park next to me. Hyundai also says it is safe to drive. It is unnerving to have this issue, when I drive the car, which I need to do, I just hope for the best. It was my retirement car and I can't afford another. A fix for anti-lock brake fire hazard issue has not happened yet, and the recall was announced November 1, 2023.
No incident yet! Having to park my car outside because of this recall in the rain. Always have parked in my garage. I want to know when this is going to be resolved. It’s taking too long!!!
While driving my vehicle I began to notice the brake indicator light would flicker when I would have my foot on the brake.
Due to the nature of the manufacturer's recall; (Hyundai Elantra 2013- Manufacturer Recall Number 251 "URGENT: FIRE RISK WHEN PARKED" & NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000) that has been issued to my car, I am now at risk and in danger, both physically and financially. This recall notice has made me aware that I can no longer park my car safely in my garage, nor in my driveway, without putting myself, my family and all neighbors residing in the surrounding houses at risk of causing a residual house fire. In addition, I fear for the safety of all innocent bystanders while driving this vehicle where other cars are present due to the fact that this potentially immanent electrical shortage may occur while parked or driving on the street. Since this issue has caused me to take these measures to protect myself and others, I have come to the realization that I must now look into selling and replacing my beloved car, however as stated above, the urgent recall notice that now exists on this vehicle will make it impossible to obtain a fair asking price from any potential buyers, leaving me unable to compensate for the financial investments I've made in regards to purchasing and maintaining this vehicle over the years. This issue now deems my car essentially worthless in its current state, and with no remedy available, I'm unable to sell this vehicle for any sum that's close to the fair market value that I deserve. Thus far, I have been fortunate enough to not experience any malfunctions that have led to a fire, BUT with a remedy not being available to solve this issue I'm left with the constant stress & fear that I may cause harm to myself or others by simply going about my daily tasks, and have no way to financially recover from the necessary purchase of a substitute vehicle that is required for me to get to work, tend to my family, and ultimately pay my bills. I hope I have made you aware how crucial it is this gets resolved promptly before substantial harm does come to me.

Hyundai issued a recall related to brake fluid leaking onto an ABS module back on September 22, 2023 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 23V651000). To this date, Hyundai has not offered a solution and the leaking is causing the brakes to not engage as they should. (I'm having to fill the brake fluid on a daily basis). In addition to the inconvenience, it adds an unnecessary expense of purchasing brake fluid. It seems that the issue is causing additional brake system issues and that the leaking is getting worse. (I pay for a car and expect it to work correctly. If there is a problem - which happens - the expectation is that the issue is resolved within a reasonable timeframe. 4 plus months for a braking issue IS NOT reasonable). The vehicle will not pass inspection until this issue is resolved. I am requesting that either Hyundai resolves the issue or offers reimbursement if we need to get the issue fixed ourselves. I received a recall for my Hyundai Elantra in November 2023 that still doesn't have a remedy. The recall recommends I park my car "outside and away from structures" because it is at risk of engine fire when driving or parked. I have been diligent in this recommendation as I don't want to cause possible harm to others. This has resulted in my car being parked outside (even when I have the option to park inside) and winter weather has caused issues with starting my car as well as maintaining it because of the increased exposure to the elements. I just called Hyundai this week and I continue to be told that there is no remedy at this time. So, I am reaching out to you for help because I'm not sure what is considered a "reasonable time" for a remedy to be produced but I hope that after 3 months there should be some solution to address the safety of myself and others.
I received the recall notice, with note to park outside the garage due to fire risk, more than two months ago. [XXX] ) The remedy is still not available. Parking outside is a major inconvenience as there isn't enough parking where I live and going anywhere after 6pm means there isn't parking on return. Not to mention the fire risk every moment the car is waiting for the remedy. Appreciate anything that can be done to put a fire under Hyundai's [XXX] to get this remedy available. I'm very concerned about a safety recalled that has not yet been addressed by Hyundai. Recall Campaign #251; NHTSA Recall #23V651000. I received notice of the safety issue, but the remedy is not yet available. I don't feel safe with the possibility of a fire until this issue is addressed. How long are vehicle owners expected to wait for a remedy?
This recall was put into place September 2022, 4 months ago. Nothing has failed yet, but my ABS warning has come up multiple times while driving. I'm not sure if this indicator means the issue is getting worse or not. I got an oil change a few days ago and they stated that my brake fluid was low.
Next week will be 4 months since Hyundai issued a recall on some Elantras, recall #251 (09/22/23). As of today, the fix is not yet available. For a serious safety issue (risk of engine compartment fire), this is totally unacceptable. When there was a recall for airbags on my 2009 Honda CRV several years ago, Honda kept the vehicle and paid for a rental car for about 6 weeks. Shouldn't Hyundai be forced by the NHTSA to do the same? What is my recourse?
I feel as though this recall is taking too long to complete/remedy. I feel as though it has been an unreasonable amount of time from the date of the recall notice to now for a resolution. I am worried about damage to my vehicle over time.
I received notice about NHTSA Recall Number 23V-651 a few months ago. According to the Hyundai Recall website (their recall # is 251), the recall started September 22, 2023 and the status is "Incomplete. Remedy not yet available." I think over 3 months is long enough for Hyundai to be able to find a suitable remedy FOR A FIRE RISK. I would like to be able to have the recall completed and my car serviced for that issue ASAP. Recall 251 not fixed or handled within a “reasonable time”. It’s been two months. I work at an airport and cannot “park away from structures”. I also have called dealer and maker repeatedly stating I don’t feel safe driving car that could catch fire parked or driving, with zero customer service solutions or concern for my safety.
Hyundai's recall on the ABS module is unrealistic. The instructions advise to park the car away form any buildings/structures and not to drive it. It's been months since this recall was initiated and they still don't have a solution?
There was no incident. I’m complaining because Hyundai has yet to do anything to address the recall Sep 22,2023 Manufacturer Recall Number251 NHTSA Recall Number23V651000. Why aren’t you insisting that Hyundai starts repairing vehicles affected by a recall issued last September. And the last time my car was recalled for a different recall I had to wait 2 months to get an appointment with my dealer. So who knows how long it will take to resolve this current recall. How can you allow them to take so long to fix this serious problem. Do something!!
Car has a ticking sound, car has died on me multiple times. The vehicle has stopped moving regardless of pressing on accelerator and died leaving me stranded, feeling unsafe. I have been driving at 40 mph and then seem to lose power, making it to where can only go 10 to 20 mph or totally dying. I was also having issues with key fobs not working. Door would open, unlock and then not, car stalling. No lights illuminating on dash. Battery in fob replaced after car being towed to shop after stalling, dying issue and I was basically told they didn't know what was up with the stalling, maybe fobs. I had an oil change done and full diagnostic, sent on way without answers. Happened again, electrical issues, fob not working, stalling, start hesitation and dying, no power. I had it towed to different shop and was told had couple of codes showing up even though no check engine light on, they stated a caliper was leaking along with other oil leak and crankshaft sensor needed replaced, which got fixed. The car has 98000 miles on it (around there) and I see safety recall posted. I finance this car and have literally only had it not even 5 months. I do not feel safe driving it. I've been stranded, at times key fobs and locks act up on it still, the ticking is definitely a concern, RPMS off and revs up at times while also lacking pick up and go. I contacted my local Hyundai and they stated no resolution on safety recall yet, can schedule an appointment and pay for diagnostic, which would make my 3rd diagnostic over the last month or so. I need something remedied. I transport myself and at times my children and I do not feel safe in this vehicle which again purchased just about 5 months ago from Car Max. Help please!
I got a recall letter in the mail and Burns Hyundai does not want to give me a service or loaner vehicle.
Driving the vehicle on 9/23/23 traveling at ~ 35 mph. Suddenly, the breaks were applied (not by input from me) and the car came to a screeching halt. The car had to be towed via flatbed rate ($100 charge) because all four wheel brakes were locked and could not be disengaged by me nor the tow truck driver. The car was towed to Napleton's Auto Park in Urbana IL. The ABS/HECU module has been confirmed to be at fault by the dealership mechanics. Presently, I am waiting to hear back from the dealership IF/WHEN the vehicle will be repaired under warranty. Event: Catastrophic brake failure whilst driving due to total corrosion of brake lines. Cause: Stainless steel rear brake lines on undercarriage of vehicle do not have any form of coating, nor anti-corrosive protection. Detailed description of problem, including photographic evidence: The stainless steel brake lines run externally along the vehicle undercarriage, from the master cylinder to the rear wheels (Exhibit A). The plastic cover, which has pre-drilled holes in it, hides these lines from view (Exhibit B) and is held in place by a series of push clips. These push clips are directly attached to small plastic straps which act as guide channel to keep the brake lines in place (Exhibit C). Ground water is able to splash from under vehicle inside the plastic cover, and then the water sits in the wells created by the straps (Exhibit D) which allows water to puddle along the brake lines and has allowed the brake line to corrode right through and brake fluid leaks right out (Exhibit E). Fortunately my wife was driving in the direction of, and in close proximity to, our home at the time of brake failure and was able to return the vehicle to the driveway prior to an accident occurring. The Country of Canada has already issued a recall for this precise issue in March of 2023 (Transport Canada Recall # 2023-125) Source: [XXX] I was not aware of this issue until the time of the incident because I would have chosen to address this myself earlier being that this would almost certainly lead to a dangerous situation I now have a vehicle which is unsafe to operate. I noticed a loud ticking noise from my engine 6 months ago and took it to my mechanic assuming it needed an oil change sooner. However the noise became much worse the past month and a half and again took it to my mechanic which found it is an issue inside the motor itself and they could not figure it out except many 2013 Hyundai Elantra's have in fact had engine failure and recommended I take it to a dealer. I instead took it today to NTB assuming it was another issue with tires and unable to accelerate which almost caused me an accident on the interstate. NTB found that this is a serious issue with the engine and confirmed Hyundai is aware of the issue but will not issue any recalls due to this. My car is only 9 years old and when I bought it brand new there were already many recalls that was repaired. When I called the Hyundai dealership near me, I was told no recalls were issued but they are aware of the problem and just for me to bring it in it will be extremely costly just to look at it, and around $5,000/$7,000 to replace the engine if this is the issue which was confirmed by 2 auto shops. I have found many reports and documentation of engine failure with not being able to accelerate and my car has done this 3xs on an extremely busy interstate in which I was almost rear ended and would have been killed. I will once again contact the Hyundai Dealership near me with hopes of receiving a free inspection of the engine. I will also be sending information to our West Virginia Attorney General and close friend Patrick Morrisey along with documentation of recent and previous repairs of Brakes and countless purchasing of tires as well as having to replace tie rods numerous times. IN DECEMBER 2017 & JANUARY 2018 ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE CARS ABS LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS IF THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED AT ALL. A VIBRATION WAS NOTICED LIKE THE BRAKES WOULD IN A SKIDDING SITUATION BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE FAILURE RESULTED IN A COUPLE FEW CALLS AND FINALLY AN ACCIDENT . IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO FAILURES OR CODES IN THE COMPUTER TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. A WEEK LATER WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI - NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 17V-769 (HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN 170). THIS WAS THE STOPPER PAD RECALL AND IT DID FIX THE PROBLEM. LOOKING AT THE INVOICE FROM THE DEALER THE RECALL WAS DONE BUT WE WERE NEVER TOLD IT WAS RELATED TO THE PROBLEM. THE RECALL NOTICE DID NOT SEEM TO PROPERLY STATE THE SERIOUS RISK OF THE PROBLEM. IT DID STATE IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH BUT ALSO STATED "A DETERIORATED STOPPER PAD DOES NOT AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE'S SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". THIS WAS FOUND OBVIOUSLY TO NOT BE TRUE. I BELIEVE THE NOTICE SHOULD HAVE STATED NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED. AT 11:15AM I WAS DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON I-294 MILE MARKER 29 GOING ABOUT 60 MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON THE LEFT. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENGINE LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT, AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD LIT UP, AT THE EXACT SAME TIME MY CAR BEGAN TO SPIN. I BEGAN TO SPIN 360 DEGREES, INTO 2 OF THE RIGHT LANES AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL I BEGAN TO SPIN 3 LANES BACK TO THE LEFT. BY THE TIME I STOPPED SPINNING I HAD SPUN INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE FACING SOUTH. FORTUNATELY THE SPEEDING CARS WERE ABLE TO DODGE HITTING ME AND I ENDED UP IN THE EMERGENCY LANE WITHOUT HITTING THE MEDIAN STRIP OR ANY CARS OR TRUCK. MY CAR APPEARED TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT MY DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE LITE BUT I HAD NOTICED THAT THE HEAT WENT OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD TURNING ON. I HAD NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. I CALLED 911 AND A STATE TROOPER CAME ALONG WITH I-DOT WHO ADVISED ME TO CALL FOR A TOW AND THEY PULLED OFF LEAVING ME IN A DANGEROUS SPOT WITH NO HAZARD LIGHTS IN THE LIGHT DRIZZLE. IT BEGAN TO RAIN AND EVENTUALLY SNOW. AFTER2 HOURS I CALLED *999 TO INFORM THEM THAT I WAS STILL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THAT CARS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE ME DUE TO THE SLEET AND THE SLIGHT FOG IT WAS CREATING. I ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT THE TOW COMPANY DIDN'T WANT TO TOW ME FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I-DOT CAME, TRIED TO JUMP MY CAR, AND THEN LEFT ME TO WAIT FOR THE TOW TRUCK. AFTER A TOTAL 4 HOURS THE TOW TRUCK FINALLY ARRIVED AND TOWED ME TO PEP BOYS. ONCE AT PEP BOYS THEY STATED THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD BUT MY ALTERNATOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND I DROVE HOME 6 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. MY HYUNDAI GAVE ME NO WARNING AND TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I BLESSED TO HAVE ESCAPED DEATH AND A MASSIVE TRUCK AND CAR PILE-UP ON I-294 RIGHT OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO.

IT SKIDDED, BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO STEER AROUND A WOOD PILE AND AVOID TREES. CAR STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A DIRT MOUND. THIS WAS TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. BUMPER WAS RUINED, AND THERE IS DAMAGE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO FIRE OR INJURIES. NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, WHO NEXT DAY DROVE CAR AROUND DEALERSHIP LOT AND FOUND NO BRAKE PROBLEM. CRASH DAMAGE MADE CAR NOT ROAD-WORTHY TO TEST BRAKES AT HIGHER SPEED. CAR HAS ABOUT 42,200 MILES ON IT. BACK IN MID-SUMMER, THE DEALER HAD REPAIRED A PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY WAS BRAKE STOPPER RECALL-RELATED (A LATE-AUGUST RECALL). YOU FEEL ALL THE BUMPS IN THE ROAD. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THIS CAR. MOST OF MY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY. DRIVING ON WET ROADS COMING TO A STOP OR HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE CAR SWERVES AND MAKE ALOUD GRABBING NOISE. SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE COMING UP THROUGH THE FLOOR. STOPPING DISTANCE AND BRAKING QUALITY WERE COMPROMISED - IT DEFINITELY TOOK ME LONGER TO STOP SO I AM VERY THANKFUL I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I WILL ALSO NOTE THAT THE SOUND OCCURS TOWARDS THE END OF A LONG DRIVE (APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR), NOT RUNNING BRIEF ERRANDS. SO IT IS AS IF THE CAR MUST BE RUNNING HOT FIRST AND THEN THE ISSUE REPLICATES.

I DROPPED IT OFF TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. ALMOST A YEAR LATER (JULY?) 2014, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE CAR SAT OUT IN THE 80 WEATHER IN THE SUN ALL DAY. I CAME OUT FROM WORK AND MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON; THIS TIME, THE ENGINE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN CONTINUE TO TURN LIKE WHEN YOUR BATTERY IS DEAD. I CALLED ROADSIDE AND HE JUMPED THE CAR. HE ALSO CHECKED THE BATTERY AND SAID IT SHOULDN'T DO THAT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO DEAD. I AGAIN TOOK INTO THE DEALER AND THEY TRIED TO REPLICATE MY ISSUE, LEAVING IT IN THE SUN; NO LUCK. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AGAIN. I HAVEN'T SEEN THE ISSUE SINCE, BUT I AM WORRIED THAT A NEW CAR COULD EVEN HESITATE TO START LIKE THIS.

OUR ELANTRA BEGAN MAKING GRINDING NOISES WHEN WE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BRAKES OR ROTOR WERE DEFECTIVE. WHEN THE SHOP INSPECTED THE CAR, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE NOISE, AND TOLD US THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER WHEN BRAKING, PLUS IT BEGAN MAKING A WHUMP-WHUMP-WHUMP NOISE THAT APPEARED TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE SPEED AND ROTATION OF THE WHEELS. THE SOUND WOULD INCREASE WHEN WE STEERED THE CAR TO THE RIGHT, AND WOULD DECREASE WHEN WE STEERED LEFT. THE WHUMPS WERE BARELY AUDIBLE AT 5 MPH, BUT WERE OVERLY LOUD AT 40 MPH. I THOUGHT IT WAS PLASTIC TRIM FLUTTERING IN THE WIND, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING LOOSE. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AGAIN, I THINK IN AUGUST, I TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE THAT THEY NEEDED TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE WHUMP NOISES AND THE GRINDING NOISES WHEN WE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THIS TIME THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE BOLT HOLDING THE LEFT WHEEL COMING UNSCREWED. THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLT UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR SERVICE, AND THE CAR HAS NOT MADE THE WHUMP NOISE OR HAD GRINDING BRAKES SINCE THE REPAIR. I DOUBT THIS PROBLEM WAS LIMITED TO ONE CAR IN THE FLEET, AND I BELIEVE HYUNDAI SHOULD HAVE ISSUED AN ADVISORY TO THEIR SHOP MANAGERS TO BE WATCHING FOR THIS PROBLEM SO THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND AND CORRECTED THE FIRST TIME THAT WE TOOK THE CAR IN. *TR

I ASKED HER IF THIS WAS IN CONJUNCTION WITH MY BRAKES MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T KNOW. I TOLD HER I HAVE ONLY HAD THE (NEW OFF THE LOT) FOR A YEAR OR MORE AND HAVE HAD A STRING OF ISSUES. I AM NOT IMPRESSED TO SAY THE LEAST!! THIS IS MINOR IN COMPARISON TO SOME, BUT THE UPHOLSTERY ON MY SIDE ON THE RIGHT (FLOOR BOARD) HAS COMPLETELY TORN APART. IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE HAD CUT IT, LIKE WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN THE LAST TIME TO GET WORKED ON FROM THIS DEALER. SHE ASSURED ME THEY WOULD NEVER CUT THE FLOOR AND I SAID WHAT HAPPENED TO IT THEN AND SHE SAID A POOR JOB WHEN MADE BY HYUNDAI. GRANTED, THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE IT, BUT NOW I HAVE A MORE IMPORTANT ISSUE TO ATTEND TO- MY BRAKES. BAD UPHOLSTERY IS NOT GOING TO PUT ME OR MY DAUGHTER IN DANGER, BUT BAD BRAKES WILL! VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AFTER PRESSING BRAKES AND TRYING TO PARK: AS I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE (LESS THAN 5 MPH), IN FRONT OF A GROCERY STORE TO PARK THE CAR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, HIT A LIGHTING POLE AND COMPLETELY DAMAGED THE FRONT OF THE CAR. PRESSING THE BRAKES EVEN HARDER COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A HALT AS IT HIT THE POLE (THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED). THE AIR BAG DID NOT COME ON, MY HEAD AND NECK HIT THE BRAKES. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT INJURED AND NO ONE ELSE WAS EITHER. I OWN A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH APPROXIMATELY 9000 MILES ON IT AS OF MAY 2013. IN JANUARY I HAD THE CAR SITTING OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT, AND WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKES. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT TO NOTICE ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE RUSTED. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, AND AFTER INSPECTION THEY SAID ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED. THEY MACHINE SHOPPED THE ROTORS DOWN SO THEY WOULD MAKE A NOISE OR MAKE THE CAR PULSATE WHILE STOPPING. THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY I LEFT THE CAR SIT OUTSIDE OVER THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. WHEN I LEFT FOR WORK MONDAY MORNING I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS PULSATING AND MAKING A GRINDING SOUND AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PREVIOUS SITUATION. THEY SAID THAT THIS TYPE OF SITUATION HAPPENS IF THE CAR IS LEFT IN MOISTURE OVERNIGHT. I TOLD THEM THAT IS RIDICULOUS SINCE MANY PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF A GARAGE. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN THE SHOP AGAIN TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I AM NOW WAITING TILL THE NEXT APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR IN. THEY SAID THE ROTORS WERE BUILDING UP CORROSION SO THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS IT SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM I INTEND TO INSIST TOMORROW THEY CHANGE THE ROTORS TOO BUT THE FACT STILL REMAINS THAT THERE IS NOW EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY CAR.
